doing well.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Thank you so much for having us today.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Good good. Now, I got a question to start out.
So here's the deal. A year ago, I received an
honorary doctorate degree, so everybody know me as doctor PJ
the DJ. Right. So this this last weekend, I've received
(01:50):
another honorary doctorate degree. Okay, So my question is do
I just say doctor or am I so supposed to
say doctor? Doctor?
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Say doctor? Doctor? I like doctor, doctor.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
I knew doctor. I just wanted to know, you know,
because I was just like, how do how do how
do you know when you're on the program? Do you
say doctor? Do you say doctor? You know?
Speaker 5 (02:18):
What is the appropriate You are officially now doctor doctor
BJ the DJ O.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Get good. Now, y'all heard that from the president. Okay,
y'all heard that? Anyway, It's the Jazz Brunch coming up Sunday,
November second, downtown Saint Louis. And what is this brunch
all about? Because people are asking me why they doing
the brunch, you know what I mean? So give me
(02:45):
the give me the scoop on the bunch.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
All right.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
The scoop on the brunch is this is a celebration
of I had a good one. Wolffuck, who was a
dedicated member of the Saint Louis Alumni Chapter of Doctor
Second Data Sorority for over fifty four years. And she
also worked for the Saint Louis Public School system for
nearly forty years as a teacher, as a counselor, and
(03:11):
as an administrator.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
She also was a Harristow.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
That University alumni as well, and she was a chair
of this brunch from its inception until that started in
twenty thirteen until her passing in twenty sixteen. So we
try to honor her every year by continuing to have
(03:38):
this brunch in her name to not only celebrate her,
but also celebrate the great artists of our city who
actually are the performers in this brunch, and also to
celebrate the Saint Louis Alumni chapter as well.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Okay, all right, so let's talk about the lineup. Who
y'all got on the lineup? I mean, who, Who's singing?
Who crying? Who doing?
Speaker 5 (04:02):
What? You know?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I just want to know?
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Okay, So let's talk about the lineup.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
We have the Coleman Hughes Project featuring Adrian Felton King.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Who will be the headliner.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
Other artists are Jeremiah Allen, Tasha Tasha Be or Tasha
b Darryl Bassett, Cheryl Brown, Bowman, Sam Huddleson, Anita Jackson,
and this year we have a new addition to our lineup,
a young man named Miles Lacey who will wow people
(04:34):
with his voice at a very young age. We have
Scharis Lewis Mason, Jeff Taylor, Gerald Warren and many others.
We also have saxophonists.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Rhoda g will be here, correct.
Speaker 6 (04:50):
So we have a great lineup of Saint Louis talent
that we'll be performing at this brunch.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Now I gotta say this, No, here's the question. Will
but y'all label to get all those folks in one room,
we are saying, you know that everybody y'all name is
top tier. When we talk about Cheryl Brown, Roea g.
We talked about Adrian Felton King, you know, we talk
(05:17):
about a Coleman Hugh's project. You know what I'm saying.
So how did y'all manage to do that?
Speaker 6 (05:23):
So I'll answer and Tracy will probably add lib to this.
But this goes to the the way those artists are
not only honoring the memory of Ida, but also giving
back to not only our chapter but also to the city.
(05:44):
This particular year's brunch, we the chapters proceeds that are
gained from this brunch will be going to the Urban League.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Yes, like what I'll say is, in the wake of
what has happened in our city this year, we are
doing things a little differently. Usually, the proceeds from the
brunch go to our programs, and we do have programs
that support the community, but this year we are dedicating
all of those proceeds from the chapter to those community
(06:17):
individuals who have been directly impacted by the storms that
took place in May and in March this year. So
storm and wind people or anyone who has been impacted,
we want to make sure that all of these funds
reach them directly, and to do that, we are going
to donate the proceeds to the Urban League so that
(06:40):
we can be sure that those proceeds get to those individuals.
And the reason for the Urban League is that we've
seen the Urban League boots on the ground. We've been
supporting them for a long time. With that, we've also
this year been in the streets with the Urban League.
We've been in the line giving the food and clothing
and schools applies out to those who have been impacted. Today,
(07:03):
even we've had some of our members at the Urban
League helping the community still because we recognize that though
it's not on the news anymore, that people are still
suffering from this and we are still helping those individuals.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah. Right, So it's going to be at the Marriott
Grand Hotel downtown Saint Louis. What time do people need
to start to arrive?
Speaker 6 (07:26):
So the program actually starts at one o'clock. We'll probably
have people arriving at twelve because they get there early.
Doors will open probably around twelve thirty so that they
can go in and get seated. We'll have rootag that'll
be serenading people as they're getting seated, So probably twelve o'clock.
Between twelve and twelve thirty, people can start arriving and
(07:49):
we'll be ready to go.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Right at one o'clock.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
One o'clock, the entertainment will begin and we have you
from one to four. We like to stay on time.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Oh so we do it, Okay, all right, all right,
we go see now if people are interested in, you know,
getting tickets and or even making donations, so you guys
can make a great donation to the Urban League. Is
there a website or you know phone number that they
can call about tickets and things of that nature.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
The best way to donate for this for the for
this particular brunch is to contact our chair, Phyllis Russell
Smith at three one four four five eight seven nine
six one, or you can email her at Delta Diva
one at MSN dot com.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
We are having.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Where you can purchase tickets in person at the Panera
Bread Bread location on Inflorescent on Lindburg and that will
be on October twenty sixth and if you contact if
you don't want to show up there, please contact the chair,
Phyllis Russell Smith and she'll be able to give you
additional information on how you can purchase by way of zephy.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Okay, all right, so the Big Sourway is going to
be going down and this is a holiday brunch is
dedicated to holiday or.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
It's the beginning of the season, beginning the beginning of
the season, the same little Alumni Holiday.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Because my last name is Holiday.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Holiday, then we'll call it holiday.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
And we also have to recognize that our organization, the
Saint Louis Alumni Chapter, has been present in the community
for ninety nine years December nineteenth will be ninety nine years.
Next year we'll be celebrating our one hundredth and we
will again be given to the community for all of
next year. So we would like to welcome everyone out
to participate in this event this year.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
This starts our kickoff for our one hundred year.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Oh okay, this is kicking off. This is now speaking
of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. And let's talk
about some of the programs that you guys have for
you know, young people. I know you guys do a
lot in the community. I want you guys to just
take a moment and just talk about the organization itself.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
So the organization itself, we have education programs. We have
youth programs for young women. We have youth starting from
six years old all the way through graduating high school
that we support us with each week where we have
once a month for each of those groups. We also
have what we call the Area Program. The Area Program
(10:31):
is a rights of passage program where young ladies who
are graduating seniors are able to participate in a cotillion.
They go through passages and pathways throughout the year. And
all of those programs are open to all students within
the Saint Louis metropolitan area. In addition to that, we
have education for economics that we have different programs for
(10:55):
as well. To support the community. Our Community Awareness and
Involvement MIDY goes out into the community a lot of times.
We are supporting those areas where sometimes are untouched, unhoused women,
unhoused men. We support the first responders as well, so
there's a lot we do something for everyone. Most importantly
(11:17):
in this environment, we are very very focused on social action,
so we do a lot with voter registration. We do
Delta Days in the city, the county, and at the
at the state Capitol. We are here for voter education
as well as voter registration.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
