Speaker 1 (00:00):
Heights, Lucy Chapman, this is kind of a different Here
is more for you. I've got a podcast for you,
not going to keep you very long, but you're gonna
want to stay because I've got Chris Pattini in here
of pubculturebercations dot Com. Chris, Hello, Lucy, You've got a
plan for me.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
You know, we've talked about this for a couple of years.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah, and I think it's finally time that you need
to go on.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
A beercation as well.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
I'm ready.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Good now.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Gave you a few options, gave you a few destinations,
and uh, you want.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
To go check out the Czech Republic.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
I picked the Czech Republic because you know, my family is,
uh my grandmother was one hundred percent che Czechoslovakian, so.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
You know, a lot of called Czechs it was back then.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yes, now it is the Czech Republic because Slovakia separated
from the Czech Republic and being here from Nebraska, we
are one of the largest Czech populations in the United States.
You got another big one down in Texas that's kind
of a huge area as well. But there's actually parts
of Nebraska that out in central Nebraska that still speak,
(01:06):
an old form of check that is not spoke back
in the Czech Republic anymore, and linguists have actually looked
into that because we had so many people move here,
so there's a lot of us like you who can
trace their roots. Now, my family, we were all in
the Chicago area. We didn't move to omahaun till seventy nine.
But I even have some background of the Bohemian side
(01:26):
because this trip will be both Bohemia and Moravia, so
we are going to see the two major parts of
the Czech Republic.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I am super excited about that. It was just looking
over some of the itinerary, and you and I have
talked many times about the different trips. Even I was
surprised about some of the stuff that's on that trip.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
The itinerary is amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
So this is a chance for people to check out
the Czech Republic with you, Lucy Chapman. And this will
be August fourteenth through the twenty fifth, twenty twenty six,
and I've got some great things planned.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
So can you spill the beans a little bit?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
A little bit?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
So we're gonna start out in Prague, so you will
have the first three and the last two nights back
in Prog. So you're gonna be booking your round trip
airfare through the Prague airport there PRG. For those people
searching a little too early yet, you need a couple more months,
usually about three hundred and sixty days out. But we
start off the first three days in Prague's last remaining
(02:22):
brewery hotel called umid Vedku UMVDCUP means the Little Bear.
The building when you're in the dining area down below
on the wall says built in fourteen sixty three. So
this building is every bit as old as Columbus coming
to find the United States.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Wow, yes exactly.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
We are seven minute walk from Old Town Square. We
are right around the corner from the famous astronomical clock.
And one of the things that I like even better
about this hotel, besides the fact that it is very classic,
very traditional, wonderful staff, very helpful. When you entered the building,
they're going to ask if you want your room or
(03:02):
a beer first. There is a welcome beer involved, which
is perfect for a beer casion.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
I expect that when I come into work in the morning.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Okay, I do get We'll start telling Gary and everybody
that you need that in the morning right.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
The other thing that is quite interesting I find one
of my biggest travel inspirations it was the late Anthony Bourdain, right,
and if you were to match the master of travel
and getting right in there with the people and maybe
stepping away from those tourist locations kind of sounds how
I like to travel, get you away from We do
(03:35):
want to see those things, but you also want to
know how the people in those places live. Anthony his
episode of No Reservations Prague starts out in the restaurant
that's below our hotel, So.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
We have a year to go watch that.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
A whole year to go watch that episode and get
really hungry. But it was because it was one of
the most authentic meals. So we start out the trip
with a welcome toast. Always on my tours, you got
to get everyone together. We'll have a walking tour shortly
after we do that to get you familiar with the
area around Prague. And my tour guide her name is Eva.
(04:11):
She's somebody who I met when I did my first
Czech Republic tour all the way back in twenty twenty, sorry,
twenty nineteen, so at nineteen she was actively involved with
the Velvet Revolution to help bring down communism in the
former Czecho Slovakia now Czech Republic. In Slovakia, there are
photos of her standing on the front lines of Winceslaus Square.
(04:34):
And if you think she has ways to not only
tell you about the awesome side of Prague, the history
and the different plights and the different things that happened,
she'll blow you away. And she's just the nicest person
you'll ever meet, and she wants to share her progue,
as she says, my magical Prague with anyone I can.
And so we'll have a walking tour with Eva, and
(04:54):
then we wrap up that evening with a welcome dinner
at Umidvdku completely with three course so you're gonna get
some appetizer, some traditional food and nice nice check dinner,
a little dessert, the beer, the local wines, maybe even
a little bit of some local schnapps, and live music,
so we even have some accordion and music there while
(05:15):
you're playing. It's really a great way to kick off
the trip. The next day we're going to be doing
and I actually have to also read everything with.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
This is this is coming up?
Speaker 2 (05:26):
I mean they're in my.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Head right right and it's fun while you're doing that.
It's fun to think about being able to go on
a trip like this that you don't have to make
a bunch of plans. You have to make a few plans,
but that's about it. You don't have to make a
bunch of plans. And as you get off of the
plane and you walk out of the airport, you're not
gonna stand there and say, what do I do.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
No.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
In fact, if you if you are coming in a
day early and you want to book an extra night
at Umadvadku, or you're coming day of you can actually
arrange taxis directly with the hotel that'll bring you right
from the airport to the front. Or you can take
public transportation, which I include in all my paperwork and
things that makes it very easy for you. Our next day,
we're going to take our private coach. We always travel
(06:12):
by private coach. Makes life a lot easier. We're going
to go to Pilsner Keel. This is the original Pilsner beer,
one of the most famous breweries in the world, and
we'll have a tour, tasting and lunch there and we
come back to Prague.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
The rest of the afternoon is free for you.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
I do also have an optional pub crawl with another
local tour guide friend of mine, where we'll visit some
of the small micro breweries around Prague. One of them's
on a boat, one of them's got a big giant
beer garden, and it's a fun way to kind of
see the locals hanging out in some of their favorite
watering holes. But if you don't want to do that,
I'm going to give everybody a link to a digital
(06:49):
map which also shows you traditional pubs, cocktail bars, restaurants,
points of interest, and it allows you to also break
away from the group if you want and go do
your own.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
That's what I love about your vacations because you've got
some people that might say, oh, that sounds perfect, that
everything is planned and I don't have to do anything,
and you might have other people that say, well, you know, yeah,
but I want to go in and do a little
bit of exploring on my own. And you can do
both or just one or whatever you want to do.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
And also, let's just say somebody is a major foodie
and they want to go check out a Michelin star
restaurant that's in town, and somebody else says, you know,
I just want to go to a traditional beer hall,
have a nice big plate of goulash and some pints
of half leaders of pilsner, and talk to locals. You
have to give people the ability to customize their experience
(07:42):
to their personality. You know. I've had people who will
spend hours at an art museum or a natural history museum,
and somebody else is like, I just want to wander
down the main square and sit on a terrace and
watch the people go by and just soak up the atmosphere.
Neither one of those are a wrong experience. It's really
your ability to do that. So you'll have time that
(08:03):
afternoon with our little extra going on. Then our next
day it's Sunday, and now'll have free morning. So if
you would like to go to a church or a mask,
you have the beautiful Catholic churches and cathedrals that are there.
I also have an optional walking tour around Prague Castle,
and our lunch that day is at a monastery brewery
(08:25):
right up on top of the hill by Prague Castle,
and it's really kind of neat to be able to
go up there great beers, and then after.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Go ahead and sign me up on that one.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, yeah, and you're.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Gonna jump on all those and it will make it
really easy for you. And then for that afternoon. This
is one of those other things that I really like
to do, not always is all of the history and
places that you go.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Fun and happy.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
One of the things is there is a memorial site
of the Terrazine concentration camp memorial from World War two,
and it's just outside Prague. And I do feel that
if we don't remember the past, we're destined to repeat
our horrible actions as people that we may have done
in the past. And whether or not you were part
(09:12):
of it, that doesn't matter. It's still remembering it. And
this was a very unique camp because it was done
to be very outward to the media of how nice
everything was. How however I didn't know exactly, but then
just around the corner, over another hill was a very
(09:32):
dark and sinister side. And so we will again be
joined by Eva. We will go we'll have a guided
tour of this World War two site, and then we'll
go back to town and you'll have the rest of
the evening to enjoy yourself, maybe reflect or maybe just
try to put it behind you and enjoy yourself. But
it is a very sombering but yet also very important
(09:54):
thing in my opinion to see that part of World
War two history. And I know you're a history buff
a little bit as well, and so it was something
I wanted to have.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
That a little bit. Come on, you do love your history.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Right, and so that what we're doing there. Now the
next day we're gonna leave Prague and we're gonna do
something kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
As we leave Prague, we're going to stop at the
Carlstein Castle.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
You had me at castle?
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Ye, yep, we're gonna.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Stop actually, uh, I have that, take that back that.
So the next day we hit the castle, but we
first head to Carlo Avari. This is a famous spa town.
There are little bubbling springs and there's special glasses that
they have with these straws, and every one of these
spas or these little springs have different waters that they say, well, yeah,
(10:43):
you're drinking this water.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Don't worry, there's that too, okay.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
And then you've got the spas that you can go
to to relax in that evening, including a very famous
beer spa. Are you in beer, you're in minerals and
contents and the ingredients from beer which makes your skin soft.
And while you're soaking, there is a tap of unlimited beer.
And these can be for two people, one people, or
(11:08):
up to like six people as a small group party
with these these big tubs and the beer vats and
and so it's a very check experience, something you will
only find there. There's actually now like one in Denver
that came from this same group. They're moving around the world,
but it started here in Carlo Avari. It's also home
of Becharofka, which is a wonderful Czech distillery of snaps.
(11:31):
Then the next day we will make our way over
to the Karlstein Castle on our way.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
To Cheskey Boudiviza.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Cheskey Boudiviza is the home of the original Budweiser Budvar beer.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Now they can't call it Budvar in the US. They
have to call it Chechvar. So if you've ever seen
Chechvar beer, that is the same. They're just afraid that
we might confuse our Budweiser with their Budweiser.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
But taste has got to be different.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
It's also the only last remnant brewery that is state
owned and that is because they don't want it to
be possibly sold off to the conglomerate of ab Imbev
that is now the American Budweiser and still Artwa and
all of that.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
And so we will go there.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
We'll have a tour tasting, a lunch that afternoon, and
then the rest of the evening you have free to
enjoy this one of the largest squares in Europe. There
is just great little side roads and places, and there's
a river and it's just very quiet, nice way to relax.
We have a great little hotel there. And then the
next day we're going to go down to a UNESCO
(12:38):
World Heritage City. It's a little day trip. It's called
Cheskey Croom loth And if you were to envision in
your head what you think probably where your grandmother lived
in a little village with a little you know, bubbling
creek and a little fortress wall, and this is that
type of a place. And we'll get there, we'll have
lunch at a brewery in that town, and then the
(13:00):
rest of the time you have to just explore before
we head back to Cheskey Boudaviza for the night. Afterwards,
the next day we're going to make our way out
to Moravia. Now we will stop at a Bernard brewery
on the way the lunch stop. It's about a two
and a half three hour drive by our bus, which
is not that bad, but you got to break up
the time.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
We'll get into.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Burno that evening and then the next day, well then
you'll have a little walking tour that evening. The next
day we're in the wine country of the Czech Republic,
so we're actually going to step away from beer for
a little bit and we will go to a winery.
We'll have a wine tour, we'll have a wine paired lunch,
and then we're back into Burno for the evening with
(13:39):
more free time to enjoy the town. It is the
second largest city in the Czech Republic, great student population,
but not overly tourist, so you're gonna get really see
something different. And it's a great town, a lot of fun,
a lot of great food, a lot of just fun pubs.
(14:00):
One of the top ten speakeasies in all of Europe.
So we'll have a little secret you can find if
you would like to find the secret Panda circus.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
It's a hoot.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
And then the next day we're actually going to visit
another distillery, Yellowneck that makes the sleeve of za if
you've ever had the Czech plum brandy or Apricot brandies, right, Yeah,
And then we're also going to visit a brewery called
Wild Creatures. Wild Creatures is very unique to the Czech Republic.
It is more of a Belgian style sour lambic brewery
(14:33):
where Yitka she is doing amazing things, to the point
where even the Belgian brewers are copying some of her
stuff and it's just a wonderful experience than.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
The small batches.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Yeah, and her husband also owns a different brewery, so
that's kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
They're just beer people.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
We'll make our way back to Prague the next day,
and on our way back to Prague, we'll stop at Kuntohora.
If you've ever seen the famous bone church of the
Czech Republic.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
I think I know what you're talking.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Okay, so oshawaries were a time when they would if
cemetery has got too big, they would dig up the
bones and bury them or not like stack them in
these underground cavern Yes, well, this one they decided to
hire carpenters and they actually used the bones to build
the church inside, so they alter the candles everything, and
there's no photography inside, so if you look online you'll
(15:22):
see professional photos, but it is one of the most
unique places you'll ever see. We'll make our way back
into Prague. That night will be our last big group
dinner at Ouffleku, which is the famous big beer hall
of Prague. Amazing place with all kinds of music and
food and just a great time. You'll have a little
(15:42):
time to get ready to I know we're already talking
about like going home, right. You'll have time to pack
the next day, and I always end every trip with
a happy hour toast so you could say farewell to
all your new friends or your friends that you have
got to know even better, and then you can the
next day our bus will take us to the airport,
or if you decide you want to stay on and
do more travel. That's one of the reasons why I
(16:04):
don't book the airfare is if you were to fly
with me, you'd have to leave from Omahon the same
day and come home from check Republic on the same day.
But I'll help you find the best deals possible, so
kind of in a nutshell, there's definitely more on the
website there at pubculturebeuracations dot com. You can download detailed
itineraries and see it. But you know we're talking about it,
(16:25):
I probably should let people know kind of what they're
looking at for price.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yes, we want, we definitely want to talk about that
before we do that. I have one question yet about
everything that we just now talked about. If somebody is
looking for an adventure and they're pushing themselves out of
their comfort zone and they think, well, I don't know
how much I want to just wander around by myself,
there's always there's always communication.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Yes, So I'm going to have a Facebook chat group
for the whole group. It's a nice way that we
can chat without having to exchange telephone numbers and text
and things like that. If people don't use Facebook, I
make sure to whether they are an individual text every
morning or a WhatsApp or something like that. I keep
the group informed. So every morning I'm checking in with you.
(17:13):
Good morning, today's weather you might want to grab your raincoat,
today's weather is warm, you might want to you know,
dress accordingly, or whatever you're dealing with. Reminding people of
where we're going, what time the bus or the tour starts,
and so that communication is always part of the trip.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Every day.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
You're not gonna get lost, no that you're gonna find them.
If somebody is missing, you're gonna I literally.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Had We were in a massive beer festival in Germany
and somebody said, oh, I turned around and Matt's gone.
I'll hope you for Nope, I said, guys, go to
the bus, and I found him within about ten minutes. Right.
I I know how to look where people are, you know,
find them. I have not ever lost a person yet.
(17:57):
I'm pretty good at hurting around cats if you will, so,
you know.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Well, that's one of the things I'm so excited about
is getting somebody on one of these trips.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Come with me. If this is pushing your just a
little bit.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Pushing your boundaries, or you're your fear of maybe traveling,
come with me on this. This is going to be amazing.
This is a great way. Maybe you haven't traveled much,
This is a great way.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
And Czech Republic is one of the most affordable places
to go.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Let's talk prices.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
So, so, first of.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
All, the base price of the trip, if you were
to start out just it's like buying your airplane ticket
the last day. Right, we're starting out in a double
room per person at thirty nine to ninety nine per person.
But if you book and pay by February fifteenth of
twenty twenty six, you're gonna be able to take advantage
of the early bird discount that's going to save you
four hundred and fifty dollars per person. Now, if you
(18:49):
wanted to sign up and pay completely your trip in full,
I'll even give you an extra nice discount that's going
to take another one hundred and fifty dollars off. And
then if you are one of the first sixteen people
sign up and at checkout use Lucy twenty twenty six,
that's so l u c y two zero two six,
you're gonna save an extra two hundred bucks. Wow, the
(19:09):
first six the first sixteen people to sign up for
this show.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
I didn't do all that mass. So four fifty two hundred.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Yeah, so four six eight eight hundred dollars offer person
wow per person?
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Yeah, So you got to get you basically now can
can compensate for your error.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
There's your yeah, exactly, there's your.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Spending money is not going to be anything to really
be too crazy about. You'll only have to worry about
on the free time your additional food, drinks, souvenirs, what
you do. But if it's something included in the trip,
it's all covered. That means not only the meals that
are included, breakfast every day at the hotel, the bus
that drives us around, the walking tour, guides, the brewery tours,
(19:52):
but also the gratuity for those people, the gratuity for
the bus driver, the uh, every little expense that some
trips will ask you to shell out for are all included.
There's only three optional add ons that you'll see on
the site when you go to pubcultureburiacations dot com and
(20:13):
you find the checking out the Czech Republic with Lucy Chapman.
Those three little things are just a couple of the
free evenings to give you a couple options of some events,
and they're minimal costs, and they're just there where it
was like, ah, I really can't feed you three times
in one day. Those are some big check meals. But
this is a great brewery and a great dinner. So
(20:33):
if you'd like to join me at this brewery for
dinner that night, I set it up to do that,
or if you'd like to go on a walking little
pub crawl to some breweries in round Prague and it'll
include a drink here and a little bits of food
here and stuff we can or you can do your
own thing. Or again that walking tour in the morning
before we go to the monastery for lunch of the
Prague Castle, you can have an extra private walking tour
(20:55):
that I scheduled with Eva. But for the most part,
most people have told me when they come home the
amount that they budgeted for spending money, there's still a
lot of money in their in their budget that they
didn't spend. So we do a good job of keeping
people with that. If you've been on of a beer
CAAs with me before, remember that there is the frequent
beercation discount. Or if you've gone on this one and
(21:17):
you're gonna love it and want to go again, I
give an additional fifty dollars off per returning trip up
to after eight or more three hundred and fifty dollars off.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
So now there are.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
People who's been saving money all over the place.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
All over the place, we're saving you money all over
the place. So but there are people who have actually
been on six and seven tours with me. So if
that doesn't say something is good of that kind of
repeat traveler is what confirms to me that we're doing
something right for the persons.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
And I know Emory from kay Babe went on the
Holland trip yep this spring.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
We heard all about it. Hey, No, we're.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Going to be announcing with Emory here soon his chipick
for twenty twenty six as well. So we got we
got options for people to travel with you guys. But
also there's a lot of other tours on the website
right now as well.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
The Ireland one, yes, amazing, you got Ireland.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
So this year there's still two Irelands. There is a
trip going to the Czech Republic. There is a New
Orleans in October, yes, October of this year, yeah, Italy
and November of this year, and then a Christmas Market
tour this year and then next year. Between me and
my other two guides, we have nineteen options for people
to travel to Europe. There's only one US trip next November,
(22:32):
which is United which is to New York, but everything
else is also again back over to Europe, whether it's Germany,
Czech Republic, Belgium, Central Europe, Christmas markets, the whole work's Italy.
There's a lot of options for people.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
So if pub Culture Beercation sounds like the most amazing
trip that you have ever even heard of, it is.
First of all, let me say that it is. But
if you don't want to wait to go with me
in twenty six, oh please don't please, no, please please
get some and go on.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
We know Lucy's trip will be very possible.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Don't want you to go with me too?
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Yes, I have a feeling that'll that quite a few
people when they hear that you're going to the Chech Republic.
It's going to be a great way for people to
travel with you. You know, you've gotten us around town
with traffic and everything else for years. This is my
time to repay that for not getting stuck in a
traffic jam. I'm gonna plan your route for for eleven nights,
(23:24):
for twelve days. I will then and then you can
just sit back and say, oh, I don't have to
worry about anything.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
So you know, it's kind of a pay it forward.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
