Heights. Lucy Chapman, thanks againfor tuning in to another edition of Here's
More. This one's a little bitdifferent. I had a chance to talk
to Mike Love. We did iton KFAB, our sister station. Scott
Vorhees and I teamed up talk toMike Love from the Beach Boys, who
will be in concert on Saturday thethirteenth at the st Concert Cove. Here's

(00:22):
our interview with Mike Love from theBeach Boys. Thank you so much for
being with us here on Nebraska's news, weather and trafficstation. This is News
Radio eleven ten KFAB. I'm ScottVorhees here with Lucy Chapman on kfab's morning
News. I said, if you'remaking a mount Rushmore top four of American

(00:44):
bands, these guys are right there. Beach Boys with Mike Love, who's
back here with us on eleven tenKFAB. Good morning, Mike, Good
morning. It's great to be onthe programs. Good morning. I think
that you've spent more time performing inOmaha over the decades then bands like three
to eleven who are from here.I mean, you guys always come back

(01:07):
with a lot of love for Omahaevery almost every single summer. This is
true. And we've even been toCouncil Bluff, which is right across the
river, I guess, And andwe actually know where it is. We've
been coming to Omaha for six decadesnow, you know pretty much as well.

(01:32):
It's it's not that far from Kansas. And my mother was born in
Hutchinson, see, so I'm aproduct of the Midwest farmer's daughter. Hutch
is a great town, especially ifyou're a golfer. They got a world
class golf course down there. Butyeah, we're not too far, probably
four hours from Hutchinson, Kansas, maybe a little bit less, but we're

(01:53):
right across the river from Council Bluffswhere you guys are playing stir Cove on
Saturday. The heat is going tobe somewhere near the core of the sun
on Saturday. I'm guessing for abeach boy, you don't mind performing in
the heat too much, do you. Well. The thing is, we
usually do our performance in the evening, so as the sun goes down,

(02:15):
it's not quite as intense, Soit's you know, and we're gonna pray
for a breeze, cooling breeze, but nonetheless, whatever the conditions are,
we're gonna, we're gonna, we'regonna have fun, fun fun. Let
me tell you. I mean thefiftieth anniversary of our Endless Summer multi platinum

(02:38):
album this year, and we're doingeighteen of the twenty songs on that double
album awesome, awesome, you knowthat well? Which ones then didn't make
the cut? And why? Well, because they're Karl Wilson's leads, you
know, and he unfortunately we losthim twenty five years ago to the lung

(02:58):
cancer. But in addition to theEndless Summer offerings, we're going to do
our Good Vibrations, our coke Mo, you know, we're going to do
some our pet sounds of songs. You know, God only knows. Wouldn't
it be nice? Sloop John B. We always do those. It's kind

(03:19):
of like American Express. You didn'tyou didn't leave home without it, you
know, But we don't leave home. We don't leave our stage without doing
fun, fun, fun, Iget around, help me run to Good
Vibrations, Cocam, you know,California Girls helped me, Ronda Barbera and

(03:39):
a few other songs. We didtwo hours and two hours of music.
When we're allowed to do it,I don't know what the what's on the
menu for for Saturday, but Ithink we like to do two one hour
sets, unless the promoter wants usto do just one straight through. In

(04:00):
that case, we do like atleast an hour and forty five minutes of
music. That's going to be ahuge show on Saturday night. And when
we have Mike Love here on theshow, you need people from two different
radio stations to tag team this interview. In addition to being joining us here
on eleven ten kfab, Lucy Chapmanhere is also with Omaha's Greatest It's ninety
nine point nine kg R. Lucy. Hi, Mike, it's nice to

(04:21):
meet you. Well, no,I'm glad. Yeah, I saw a
note to me that though Lucy wasgoing to be on. But then then
then I hear this guy's voice.I mean, he's playing the part of
Lucy Chapman today, he's not doingit. Well, it's in twenty twenty
four, Mike, anyone can doanything they want anymore. Well yeah,

(04:41):
uh huh, Well let's not gettoo far down that road anyway. Hey,
Mike, you can't. You can'tgo to a Beach Boys concert and
not look out from your perspective, look out over that crowd and see anything
but smiles and laughing and dancing.Am I right? Well, you know
what, what's miraculous and fantastic andwonderful as there were four seventeen year old

(05:05):
girls who had all decorated up inBeach Boys that had we Love Mike Love
kind of thing. They had writtenour song titles on their on their legs
and and and and had grass skirtson and everything. They're having a great
time, but their grandmother wanted totake a picture with me. So we
have like three or four generations comingout to our shows and families enjoy our

(05:29):
music together, which is fantastic. And you're gonna you're gonna talk about that
a lot in the new documentary that'scoming out. Oh yeah, documentary is
out on It's out on Disney Plusso or Hulu. But anyway, if
you haven't seen it, it's it'sit's pretty interesting because everyone has ever been
a part of the Beach Boys sincethe beginning. Their contributions are you know,

(05:55):
noted, and and it really showsthat the family can and the family
that loves music. I mean,Mike, My mom at five years old
went to California with her siblings fromHutchinson, Kansas, and they didn't have
any money. It was a dustbelconditions, dustfel times before the Great Depression

(06:20):
anyway, when they but they didhave music. So my uncle sang in
a quartette, my mom sang lightopera in high school and stuff, and
it was a big deal then becausethey got to sing on the radio.
Pretty cool anyway, So a generationlater we were singing about in the California

(06:43):
lifestyle and it's you know, redreverberated all around the world. Music has
changed, certainly over the last fiftyto sixty seventy five years, but you
have you've been there since you wereborn, and you've seen quite a lot
of change just in California and themusic scene. How do you see what's

(07:03):
the biggest difference from when you gotstarted to what you're seeing today. Well,
well, of course, music goesthrough changes over the years and all
different types of music, and there'ssomething for everyone, I guess out there.
But with us it's always been well, first of all, when we

(07:23):
started out, there would may bebe two microphones and we'd have to share
them. Now we have a greatteam that comes in and sets everything up
and our crew goes in and setseverything up for us. We come in
and do a sound check. Thesound is so much better these days.
The lighting is better, the production'sbetter, so the audience experience is infinitely

(07:47):
better than when we first started out, when we would have our station wagon
with the U haul truck and we'dset up and break down our equipment and
do four sets a night at aballroom or something or lake, you know,
out of the lake, or youknow, on these summertime venues where
you know, all these old timecountry musicians would go. So it's so

(08:09):
much nicer these days with the productionand everything. The Endless Summer Tour with
Mike Love and the Beach Boys thisSaturday at ster concert Cove. Tickets online
at stercove dot com. Do youguys ever try and go on tour during
the winter and say we're trying tobook some shows around New Year's and maybe
around Christmas, like it's the BeachBoys, We don't want you guys in

(08:31):
February. Well, I'll tell youwhat we learned our lesson about going to
going on tour in December when wewent to Duluth one year and I think
it was January or February, andI think I had walking pneumonia for about
a month after that, and theboogie woogie flew. Yeah, it's uh

(08:54):
yeah, probably not the best ideato ever go to Duluth. But you
know, you know, Lucy talkedabout the difference in music over the years,
and I know everyone has got astory that begins with man, you
guys when I was a kid,and then it's that touchstone to Beach Boys
music. And I was just thinkingabout today's kids versus how you and your

(09:16):
cousins grew up and what you wrotesongs about, hanging at the beach,
driving your cars, you know, getting together and having this great experience.
Now, if someone was writing asong about today's America's youth, it'd be
called I Sit around. It's notthe same lifestyle. It's not the same
lifestyle, right, Well, Ithink it exists in little pockets here and

(09:41):
there. But you know, there'sso much dissension and negativity in the atmosphere
of these days. But the beautyof the Beach Boys music is it's all
about good vibrations. I mean, when we wrote good Vibrations, we knew
there was a no more. Weall are draft cards. There was integration

(10:03):
problems in student demonstrations and all that, but we chose. I chose to
accentuate the positive in our lyrics andfun things and positive things and things that
are great in life, whether it'san attraction to a young lady, or

(10:24):
a attraction to a fantastic car fromDetroit, or the beautiful lifestyle that we
lived in California. So you canstill find the positive in life if you
choose to look at life and chooseto make good lifestyle choices, you know,
so you don't harm yourself and getall messed up, and you can

(10:50):
choose to accentuate the positive. AndI'm telling you the kids like there's lots
of kids that come to our show. I mean when I say kids,
I mean teenagers and younger and olderthat love love the music, and we
find that it's a fantastic experience. It's so uplifting for me to see the

(11:11):
effect of our music. Mike,Mike, real quick, because I know
that you're on a schedule. Here, tell us about your club, Cocomo's
Spirits. You've got this whole differentthing going on, and I'm really interested
in hearing about this. Well,we have four ready to drink cocktails and
club pokemo spirits. And we've alsojust won some gold medals from a prestigious

(11:37):
competition in San Francisco where there's thousandsof entrants of all kinds of spirits from
all around the world. We havefocused on rum mainly because if I were
to go out to a club ora dinner or something order some I'll order
a mojito. So I created aCoca mohito, and so we have an

(12:00):
afternoon Delight, a Cocomohito, auh and a and a couple other uh
uh ready to drink cocktails. Andyou could look it up on Clubcocomo dot
com and they're about forty states thatyou can order those those cocktails too.
And we're selling these rum bottles tooas well. But and and in some

(12:24):
cases we're having tastings after the show. VI I p tasting, but they're
delicious. I mean, that's mydeal. I couldn't tell you about tequila.
I couldn't tell you about gin, really, but we have one gin
drink and it's delicious. It's calledExcitations. And we got these uh these

(12:46):
titles from either Cocamo or Good Vibrations. Oh yeah, we recognize the titles
there. Yeah. Yeah. Youcan have an immersive experience this Saturday to
see The Beach Boys with Mike Loveat st concert Cove stircove dot com for
details about Saturday's concert. You canwatch The Beach Boys on Disney Plus beforehand.
You can read The Beach Boys bythe Beach book about the Beach Boys

(13:09):
after the show, and you canhave the Club Cocomo spirits the entire time.
Mike, we ask our favorite guestson this program to say a line
for us that we feel is thebest thing to hear first thing in the
morning. Now the line is,good morning, honey, I made you
pancakes for breakfast. But because you'reMike Love of the Beach Boys, I'm
hoping you can say Aruba Jamaica.Ooh, I want to make you some

(13:33):
pancakes, Ruba Jamaica. Who Iwant to take? Who? I want
to make you some pancakes? Loveit? That's perfect, love it?
Thank you, Mike. All right, Well, thank you a lot of
fun being on the program this morning. And I like the double teaming music

(13:54):
and news talk. Think it's billiant. We're all here for good vibrations in
any form. Thanks Mike Sion allright, Mike love Beach Boys, and
