Speaker 1 (00:00):
Heights, Lucy Chapman, and welcome back. Thanks for hanging out
with me with another edition of Here's More. I've got
a really special guest, you know what. I say that
all the time, but it seems to be all I
get is really special guests, and I certainly have one today,
Tony Cox of the Anchor Corps.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Tony, Welcome, Hey, Thanks appreciate you giving me the time
and opportunity to talk about veterans and my organization. Anchor Corp.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Tell me about your organization.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
You know, we started it four years ago and it's
aw about giving back. You may hear me say give
back so much you might want to just edit and
say we going Tony Cox already, but it's about giving
back to veterans and the opportunity that I had and enjoyed.
It was twenty five years in the service. I left
Omaha nineteen eighty three, twenty five years in the service,
(00:48):
and I said, what can I do for veters after
seeing a lot of them don't know what's out there
for and the opportunities. So what we do Anchor Corps
We support other five on one threes and nonprofit organization.
We go and support them for the opportunity. Like last
year we did Javelin. We supported, then we went out
(01:09):
and hustle and worked hard for the ventures before they
can get two or three more service dogs. We just
get back.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
That's that's the therapy service tech dogs.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
That's what we do, Lucy. We just give back.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
When you left Omaha and you did, you spend the
twenty five years then out away from Omaha.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Then I spent five years out of Omaha. You can
most of my time with spending san Diego. So everyone said, wow,
you came back to Omaha and San Diego.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well, you have a heart for the people right here
in the Omaha, in the Midwest. This is where you
grew up, This is where your roots are. So you
and your wife decided to start this organization.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yes, man, we started off four years ago, really did.
We didn't know what we was doing.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
We just most people don't.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
You know, I would. It's just coming out of my
pocket spending money for a good cause. Until you start learning,
until you get people like Bill Williams to support you
and tell you, hey, you need to do it this way.
You know, He's always had my back. There's a other
couple of other organizations that say Hey, we got to
do it like this to be successful. My goal is
(02:18):
if I'm not in the top three in the next
five years, call me up. That is a goal. You
have to have a mission, and a mission is giving
back to veterans.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Now, aside from the therapy dogs, the service dogs, what
else are you working with veterans in the Omaha area.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
We find an organization in support that needs to help,
you know, to make their profit successful. Four veterans as well.
So Anchor Corp. You know, we put a golf tournament
on every year Miller Park. We did Miller Park for
two years, nine whole course, one of the beautiful courses
in the mall unknown, unheard of. And then now we're
doing Shoreline over in the car Lake. All our money
(02:57):
stays local for local veterans.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
And I think that's really important. We're talking about this,
this whole Texas flooding right now that people want to
donate to this, but you don't really know when you're
giving money, you don't really know if it's really going
to go to help people.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
So by you saying that's all sad time, that's the
sad things you see is when you really look into it,
where the Bunny goes, there's people get paid. We don't
get paid, right, we just get back. We don't keep
a dime. You know, we got the car show coming
up this Saturday. Should be a success. You know, we
got the Superman opening down there. We're ready to rock
(03:33):
and row. It's gonna be a great day. Bring your
family out. You don't have to have a car to
enjoy beautiful cars.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Now this is this is the motorcycles. Yeah, so this
is the Road to Victory car Show. This is the
one with our sister station kfab Emery is going to
be there hanging out.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
With you guys. Mam. It's gonna be awesome time.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
And that is coming up on Saturday. If people are
just finding out about this, So this is happening at where's.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
This Quacker Satan Lou and I watched the news this morning.
It's supposed to be a perfect ten day.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Excellent. Yeah, that's right across the river, right over off
of me in America Drive, I think, so yeah, easy
to find. You can't miss it with America America ORPS. Tony,
what kind of message do you have to the veterans
that maybe are just learning about you for the very
first time? Maybe are looking for some information or trying
to navigate something in their lives. What can you tell.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Them take the opportunity and invest and look into what's
there for you. There's a lot of veterans out there struggling.
If there's a day you walk by a veteran and say,
I don't know where to tell you to go. You're
doing the wrong thing. You know, it's still I say,
it's about giving back. Listen to the veterans, understand because
(04:47):
I've been there, and just make it happen. You know, right,
they serve your country. It's less than three percent that
served our country to give you the freedom for we
can go out and have this car show and have
awesome day.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
And that car show is coming up on Saturday. Emory
will be out there. Anchor Corps will be out there
helping veterans complete life missions.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
The mission is you, The mission is you don't sell
yourself Short eleven to two. Come on out and enjoy
a beautiful day at Quaker Saint Lude the victory to
a car show and motorcycle and I will have my
motorcycle in the show.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Tony Cox, it was such a pleasure talking with you
so much for coming in today.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I appreciate the opportunity for me to speak for veters
and for you to look forward to places to go
to make it happen.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
And we're gonna go to the Road to Victory Car
Show on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
That's where we're gonna go, yes ma'am.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
And there is more information at anchor Core Facebook page.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yes ma'am, And that's.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Coming up Saturday from eleven too. Well, the event goes
on till.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Two, yes ma'am, eleven to two.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
We're gonna be there.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
We're gonna be there earlier than that.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
So our sister station KFAB will be broadcasting live with
Emory Songer. He's going to be there until one. But
the event goes on until two o'clock at Quaker Steak
in Lube on Mid America Center and Council Bluffs.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
And you can say as long as you want. It's
gonna be a good time, bring your family, and it's
about giving back to veterans. Thank you, Tony, you Lucy.
I appreciate it.
