From Valley High School.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Coach he Jeff haveing, good have you?
Speaker 1 (00:18):
It's good to see you.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Good to see you.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
We had really we didn't have a chance to talk.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
I did.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I interrupted you dinner.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Didn't I sorry? I say, it'll be waiting for me.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
This man right here has the wings every.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Every time I don't do. I have not ventured off
of it in five years.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I have not.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Okay are you? Are you drums or flats?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Either one of them. It's gonna get that's right.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
Yeah, Moe's Barbecue wings hard to be That's right, all right?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Coach.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Last week Russell County six a school come at a
non region game. You you dropped that one thirty three,
forty four to thirty three. You know, I'm sorry. We
started with forty four thirty four in that game. You
want to talk about that one briefly, then we're right
back into the region. We'll see a car.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah, you know, I think our boys really fought hard.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
You know, go in halftime, fourteen and fourteen, tight up,
come out, and it's back and forth through the whole
third quarter, date score, we'd score and ended up being
tied up late in the fourth quarter, and then they
took the lead and you know, we just couldn't we
couldn't bounce back, and you know, got beat by ten.
But you know, it was a game that really went
(01:24):
back and forth, and our kids fought hard. You know,
with the amount of depth we've got and our kids
going both ways. We probably had about five or six
kids that had to go both ways for them to
fight the way they did and scratching claw and be
right there in the game. That's what we wanted to do,
and that's what we talked to our kids about, just
having a chance to win the football game and the
fourth being there, you know, and that was big for us.
(01:46):
You know, we take that playing a big six eighteen,
that's a ranked six eighteen, that's undefeated, you know, and
have them on the ropes was you know, it was
good for our kids.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, well, you know, I read about their quarterback every
week as he is.
Speaker 6 (01:59):
He's good.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
He is, he's really good. You know, he manages the
game really well, throws the ball really well. You know,
he can use his legs. He doesn't use him much,
but you know he's quick and shifting back there. So
you know that they ran the ball well too. You know,
the quarter of the running back had five touchdowns. You know,
he ended up having like one hundred and forty yards
rushing I think something like that, but with five touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
So they ran the ball well.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
You know, but our guys answered, you know, Cayden Foreman
was I think he was seventeen for twenty four for
two hundred and some two hundred and twenty two thirty
seven I think yards, and then Brenda Is Easton I
running back was he had one hundred almost one hundred
fifty yards rushing too, with three touchdowns. So you know,
we was pretty balanced. H We was excited about it,
(02:44):
and they really played well.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
Yeah, all right, well did you have something Well I
was gonna say, you know, I know, coach, this is
the I mean, you played seven eighteen in Smith's station,
beat them, and you played one of the top ranked
six eight ten, at least the top ten, six eighteen.
They're going to finish one or two in their region
in Russell County, and this really battle test your group
for the remainder of your schedule. I know that'll play
dividends for you down the stretch.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Yeah, you know, you look at the two losses we've had.
You know, we lost to Clay Central by by touchdown.
You know it was I think it was twenty seven,
twenty one, twenty six, twenty something like that.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
One something like that.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
And you know their top of the you know, our region,
and they just beat five A Statesborough, I mean number
five ranked stakes Boro and five A I think, uh
this past week. You know, so that loss and then
the loss to the you know number ten six A
is big for a program. That's the only two losses,
and we were we were in both games, so you know,
(03:40):
that's big for a program. Before our kids, we really
got to finish out these next four weeks, So they're big.
That's what we talked about each each week, each day.
This week, you know, we got we got to be
four and o the next four weeks because those are
the most important ones. We got to get that whole
playoff birth and if we do, you know, you know,
play hard, play like we've been playing, we'll be in
those four games and have a hans to win where your.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
Region championships sell up for grabs because you've got a
team that's undefeated in Elmore County coming up in a
couple of weeks, right, can overlook Silicaga next week.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
But right, you know, and anything could happen.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
Somebody may slip up and beat Clay Central, so you
know they're still undefeated yourself, but you know, you don't,
you don't, you don't know.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
You know, you got you got four teams here.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
This this really good that you're gonna have to play
every week and the you know, the remaining of the
reading's schedule. So you know, those two losses we could
really build on for our program though, because we really
haven't been in those games the past two years.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Yeah, well this week you beat Silicaga. Last year was
twenty sixty seven, right, thirteen three all time against you.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Yeah, you know Silicaga. They're they're mush improved team. He
does a good job with this team. You know they
they run the ball well, you know they they've got
a speech.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Did quarterback they can run it and they can throw
it a little bit.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
You know, they got a receiver and number five that's
pretty pretty shifty too.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
So you know, we got to work cut out for us.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
You're a I mean your offense and you've got some
good athletes this year. Talk a little about some players
that are doing well for you.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
You know, we talk about the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
He's done good. He's over a thousand yards already passing
this year.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
He coached, he's six.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
To one, he's lost some weight from last year. You know,
he's probably down to about onoin't eighty now.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, So you know he's he's he's he's a real
smart kid. Yeah, you know.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
He he he plays bigger than six ones.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
He can he can read defenses and he does a
good job. I can really give him the offense and
if I call something and they may line up that
that's not going to be right for it. He makes
an adjustment on the field. We've got that ability, So
you know that's great for our offense.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
And then and you know Brenda is at at at
running back has really helped us as well. He's he
was out for two weeks with a dislocated Kneecap, came
back against you know, came back against Maubray, ran the
ball well, and then he had a good night running
ball against Russell County with over you know, close to
one hundred fifty yards rushing.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So what what year is he?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
He's a senior. Both of those guys are.
Speaker 7 (05:59):
Ye home game against Silicaga Friday night. You need a
big crowd out on that, we do.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
You know, it's homecoming, so we should have a good
crowd out there.
Speaker 7 (06:05):
Coach good Luck, appreciate the visit. Go Rams Valley Coach
Adam Hunter. They'll take on Silicaga in Valley Ram Stadium.
Make sure and get out and cheer them on. And
we'll continue with the High School Coaches Show coming up
next here on the Kicker. Welcome back here on the
High School Coaches Show. Van Race jumping in when De
Mark and Jeff right now, we're gonna talk opa like
a high school football. We got coach Brian Moore joining
(06:27):
up with US. Coach Moore dog fight last week against
Pike Road and Bulldog STADIU. Another home game coming up
this week against Dothan. Let's talk about the Pike Road game.
I know we've talked a lot about it this week.
Had your hands full last week we found a way
again to win one of those type ball games.
Speaker 8 (06:40):
Yeah, it'd be nice to have a little space, you know,
and uh it was. It was certainly a really good
football game. You know what I think is too good
football teams and Pike Road and coach Shuke do a
really good job and they've got.
Speaker 9 (06:52):
Some elite players. And it was yes, you nailed it.
It was a challenge.
Speaker 8 (06:56):
I mean it was back and forth really from the jump.
You know, we scored first and they scored fifth, thing
and we answer back. It was just back and forth
the whole night. And it was a good win for us.
Good job, you know by our our defense getting a
huge stand there at the goal line and then you know,
really doing a good job of driving it out of
there with our offense and finishing the game on offense.
Speaker 9 (07:14):
So again, you know, it.
Speaker 8 (07:16):
Would be nice to play a little cleaner, have no
turnovers and uh, you know, and and win this thing,
you know, the right way. But it's been it's been
good to see our resilience and toughness throughout the year.
Speaker 7 (07:26):
Three of those close wins, the margin of victory total
is eight points, which is hard to believe, but you
found a way to win. What do you think has
been the key for your team to pull off those wins?
Speaker 8 (07:35):
You know, just staying together. I mean there hadn't been
any issues at all back and forth. I mean both
sides have had their challenges and both sides have had
really good moments too. So that's exciting, you know that
we found a way. And you know, people have you know,
asked you to say, well, you know, you could have
could have lost some of those games and said, yeah,
but we didn't. And so you know, those games are
you know, won by teams that are together and fight
(07:56):
for each other and compete, and that's what's going on again.
It would be nice to win one in a different
way and play a little bit cleaner.
Speaker 9 (08:04):
Because I think there's a lot more in the tank
to this team.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
I really do.
Speaker 9 (08:06):
You know where they're growing up.
Speaker 8 (08:07):
There's so many of our kids that are growing up
and you know, really have you know, six games of
experience basically, you know, when you break in seventeen, you starters.
Speaker 9 (08:15):
But now it's time.
Speaker 8 (08:16):
The season is towards the end, and it's time to
start playing better. And I think that we will this week.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
We talked before the season started. I remember, and you
were we were thinking, you know, the offense would be
really ahead of the defense, and it's kind of, I
don't know, been a little bit different. But you know,
the offense has kind of struggled at times this year,
but you haven't peaked yet, and I don't think you've
played your best football yet and you're five and one,
So I think that's good.
Speaker 8 (08:36):
You know, too much inconsistency on offense, you know, from
some things that aren't in our control, with the injuries
and things.
Speaker 9 (08:42):
That we've dealt with.
Speaker 8 (08:43):
But other kids have stepped up and made plays, and
so it's been really exciting to see some of the
younger guys get more reps than we anticipated, Guys that
we did not expect to play. I mean Isaiah hoigwell,
our left guard has started three or four football games,
and we did not expect him to play really yet
all this year. We thought he would be a development
little guy. That's not a knock at him. He's just
a young guy, you know, and so we've had to
do that. We did not expect Wick Cooper you know,
(09:05):
to be in you know, to start some games and
do the things he's had to do, so it's been uh,
you know, again, it's the silver lining is that we've
got gotten a lot of depth out of this. But
hopefully we're getting healthier now and as some of those
consistency and and and we'll play a little bit more
consistent through the remainder of the year.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
Yeah, and that's key for these JV games. I know,
because WIT's got a lot of reps in JV games.
He didn't have a lot of varsity aged and then
here he is kind of the guy on a Friday
night where you know, if he didn't have any experience
in these JV games, it would be a big jump
from him from the middle school level to now.
Speaker 9 (09:36):
That's why it matters.
Speaker 8 (09:37):
I mean that, you know, I think that playing those
lower levels and the development of your players what keeps
you from having down years. You know, if you don't
have that experience, man, this year could be tough, you know,
and it could be a different year. And but again
that's not what happened. And the kids are prepared and uh,
and they bought into that. They understand why they play
JV and and why they work so hard in the
weight room with Kaye McGee and it's certainly paying off.
Speaker 10 (09:58):
C J.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
Johnson's been a big factor for you continue to run
the football. Jordan Waites talk about that backfield that you
really had to lean on big Friday night.
Speaker 9 (10:05):
Yeah, I mean they've been, you know, a stable.
Speaker 8 (10:07):
You know, I think we have as good as backs
as anybody in the state, in my opinion, the best,
and it's been exciting to see how.
Speaker 9 (10:13):
Deep the room is. You know, really Jalen Nelson and
c J.
Speaker 8 (10:16):
Pink should be playing more, but there are only so
many reps out there for them, you know, And so
those guys have stayed ready and consistent, and Ben Landers
has done a tremendous job with them. And then the
addition to Blake Back this week, who's really running back
as well, you know, a big back.
Speaker 9 (10:28):
It's it's good to have that guy.
Speaker 8 (10:30):
And you know it's good to have two backs go
one hundred yards, both Jordan and CJ.
Speaker 9 (10:34):
And then you know the balance. I look today at
the numbers.
Speaker 8 (10:38):
I don't care a whole ton about stats, but I
did want to see the reps and they're almost exactly
the same like you're seeing. I don't know how many
carres it is, but it's down like almost to the carry.
Speaker 9 (10:47):
The difference between CJ and Jordan. That's what we're looking for.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
I think some more of the eight or nine carry
range apiece or something like that.
Speaker 8 (10:52):
Looks like it's been great, you know, to see it
that way, and then you know, obviously Blake hasn't had
as many because he's been out, but you'll see him
take some of the load off. Of what you saw
is with Blake being back in, you saw better yards
per carry because of his effect on the game. You know,
the different types of runs that we can have that
Jad's been really limited to calling lately because really Brogden's
come in and done a good job. But he's a
(11:13):
full back. He's a true full pack. You know, Blake
is more of a hybrid guy. And so it's been
good to be able to get creative again. And so
we'll need to do that again against Oathan Friday.
Speaker 7 (11:21):
All right, against this Othan team. Coach, they like to
run it. You like to run it. May have time
to get to the fair after the game. This may
be over eight thirty. I mean, what is the plan
on Friday night? I know they're going to line up
and run it. No big surprises there, and I'm sure
they're expecting ople like it to come out and try
to run the football a lot.
Speaker 8 (11:34):
Yeah, eighty percent run for them, you know, eight to
two in the you know, in the run to pass
and so it's been you know, but the passes can
be explosive, and so that's what you really fear is,
you know, so many runs like Smith's had and then
you know, you get a seam ball that the guy's
open and you don't put your eyes in a right spot.
That makes it very difficult. And so we've had to
(11:54):
do a great job with our discipline. Yesterday, to be honest,
you know, I was pretty concerned about our alignment and
some of those things. But today was really good. This
morning it was clean. It was the third time going
through it. We'll go through it again tomorrow. We'll have
a walk through tomorrow afternoon. So I feel like we'll
get there, you know, by the end of the week
as far as the nuances of what they do and
how you have to line up those things and play
(12:14):
them on the back end specifically. But I'm excited, man,
I'm excited to see us play better, more discipline defensively.
But yeah, it'll be fast because we want to run
it too. That's who we are to Opeka. We want
to line up and run it. But we also need
to hit some big throws as well, so our explosive
I know coach McCracken really charts that, but that explosive
number needs to be high.
Speaker 9 (12:32):
We need to find some big plays in the passing
game as well.
Speaker 7 (12:34):
I know you want to don't want to put too
much pressure on your guys, but you know, from here
on out in the region, you lose a game, the
future is uncertain. I mean, it's that tight with this
group here, and I mean you know, it's almost like
a must win every week now, right.
Speaker 8 (12:45):
Yeah, Reesa, I don't know who asked me earlier in
the week said well, how's the region looking.
Speaker 9 (12:49):
I said, I have no clue. Nobody does.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Man.
Speaker 7 (12:51):
Yeah, I mean this is one of those deals. You're
right that you can finish first fourth or not make.
Speaker 8 (12:55):
It, you know, but that's the region you play in,
you know, and that's what you signed up for.
Speaker 9 (13:00):
You know.
Speaker 8 (13:01):
Again, it's like playing the SEC man. You know, anybody
can win any night. You have to bring your a
game to be successful. All games are going to be tight,
especially ours. You know, that's just the kind of team
we have. You know, it's just one of those years.
But you're right, I mean, we need to beat Dothan
and give ourselves another chance to go to Enterprise and
continue our pursuit. But you know, like last year, I mean,
(13:22):
we end up playing Central, right, and we were like, hollive,
we've beaten Dothan and Enterprise, we're still not in.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
You know, we're still not in.
Speaker 8 (13:28):
We still need to beat Central and finally that locked
it up. But y'all, that was game nine when we
locked up the playoff birth. So luckily it was a
two seed, but it was you know, again, that's the
region that we're in and everybody's good and you know,
every year six teams can make it.
Speaker 9 (13:42):
So you have to play well each week.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
That's coach Brian more Ople. I could takes on Dothan
on Friday night in Bulldog Stadium. I know there's a
ton going on Friday night downtown, the fairs in town.
You need the crowd there.
Speaker 8 (13:53):
I know Friday, there's no question we need one of
those big Ben Russell or Auburn crowds for sure.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
All right, coach, good luck Friday night.
Speaker 7 (13:58):
You got that game right here on the Kicker, people
like and Doth and coach Brian Moore visiting whether US
High School Coaches show continues next after this on the Kicker.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Hey, welcome back to the high school Coach he shows,
Jeff said, Dan Martin, Mitchell, Jason Earl Lee. We got
Van Riggs in the house and we're coming to you
from Moe's original Barbecue right here on Fox Sports nine, ten,
thirteen ten The Game.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Of course.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
It's brought to you by the Orthreeedy plenty Free Funeral
Home and Goryez Furnas Express. And next up is coach
Brandon Hall from Loach of Polker Coach last week he
had beauty I'll beat him pretty pretty sounding.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Yes, sir, got us a victory.
Speaker 11 (14:34):
We're happy to get back into win Colling a guy
who played well, played hard, executed game, playing pretty good well.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Who played really good for you, coach. Now, was I
read something about your quarterback last week? Did he have
a big game?
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yeah? He did.
Speaker 11 (14:46):
He had think he had like one hundred something in
the air, one twenty eight and the air, they had
like one seventy five on the ground, like three touchdowns,
three or four touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
kJ carter Man.
Speaker 11 (14:58):
It's a great athlete, phenomenal the back, phenomenal athlete, phenomenal player,
does a good jobs leading those guys in the right way,
and it plays hard. Man plays with a chip on
the shoulder. I was proud of him. Offensive line played
well too. All those guys up front did a good
job for it was blocking led by a big Cam
White and those guys and Buster Darnelle. Buster as a
(15:18):
senior had about four or five pancakes, So they played hard.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
They played well. Man.
Speaker 11 (15:25):
I was excited for those guys. Defensively, we played a
better game than we did the week before. We was
able to put a game playing together and make some plays.
They played hard and flew around Man, and I was excited.
I'm just happy that we was able to get a victory.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah, hey a, you right back in the region this
week he had Central Coaster coach. I've only played them
one time, yes, sir, last year. Yeah, that's the very
first time. Yea, last year you won fifty eight fourteen
Central Coasa or are they a little bitter?
Speaker 2 (15:51):
They better this year, a lot better.
Speaker 11 (15:53):
They averaging think around about thirty eight points a game
while they scoring every time. I look up, they're scoring
fifty against somebody. They have, they have about fifty athletes
running around. I'll tell you the truth, man.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
They had lost the region game.
Speaker 11 (16:05):
I had lost the region games. So this will be
a good test for us coming in and they coming
down house tomorrow. We're excited to have them there. And
uh so we got no we gotta play you. We
gotta play hard. Go that's cute, you know, the game
playing and be disciplined, you know, go out and fly
around man and play for the guy besides us.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Man. So I'm excited about that.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
I failed to mention that, Coach is a Thursday night game,
Thursday night football night game. All you got is go
down Highway fourteen right left going into.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
THURSDA night game.
Speaker 11 (16:31):
Come on down there and get some fish, watch some
good football.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
The last name I know the last name of the field,
but I can't remember who Don's tap tap sir.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yeah, Coach Jones was the one started the program. Okay,
coach take the one that the Hall of Famer. You know,
awesome guy.
Speaker 11 (16:46):
Man, he's still come around and come to the games,
calls me all the time.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Thankful for that and the Jones the family.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
I grew up with them, so central coasy coach, you
know who have they beaten? Because I don't have that.
I got your schedule, I see whether to and on
the region. Oh yeah, they beat Horseshoe Ben. Uh, they
beat Ramber Okay.
Speaker 11 (17:02):
And they beat sax Sacks team from up there in
the Aniston, Okay kids.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Yeah, they beat those three pretty handed. You know, they
gave it to the lost in Winningborough.
Speaker 11 (17:12):
They lost Winner Borough, Randoff County and uh they had
one more loss in there.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Forget who it was.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Well, Randolph County a three, right, so they went up
classication in Randolph County historically pretty good you.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Know, yeah they solid. They's still a good football team.
Speaker 11 (17:26):
Yeah, they still played hard on film watching them that, Yeah,
they played them pretty hard.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
To prepare for them, we just.
Speaker 11 (17:32):
Gotta make sure we fundament on the sound man that's
the key man for us and being there basecute, you know,
put a game playing together, make sure the executed and
you know, fly around well, makes you hold on to
the football, can't turn over trying to get takeaways, make
sure we blocked Chalker, just basic basic things.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Yeah, you know, can't we can't hurt ourselves.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Are gonna takeaways.
Speaker 11 (17:50):
Yeah, we're doing pretty good on that. We had four
last week, have four pick class week. Hate Lymphy got yeah,
Hay Limpson got one. Jeremiah Floyd got one. Uh, they're
on callaway that he got.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
To Then you have a seventh grader to get one? Like,
uhould it you that had the seventh grader they got one,
it might have been lone had they got to set
a brother They got to set up brothers. Seventheen eighth grader.
The eighth grader starts in the seventh grader. You know
he he played you know, yep. They got a good
defense though that well. Coach, Hey this everybody. It's a
(18:22):
Thursday night game at Jones Tape Field, seven o'clock kickoff.
That's right Thursday night. You may be the only one
in town on Thursday night.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
The whole crowd were good luck, coach. I appreciate you all.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
They'll be playing Cusa Cousa, uh Central Cusa tomorrow night
and that's coach Brandon Hall will poker. You listen to
the High School Coaches Show. We'll be back right after this.
Mm hmmm, welcome back to the High School Coaching Shows.
Jeff's actually be more Mitchell, Jason Earl Lee. We got
Van Riggs in the house somewhere and we're coming to
(18:57):
you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. And we're here every
Wednesday in football season for the High School Coaching Show.
Next up is coach Jason Island from Chambers Academy. Coach.
Last week was the most anticipated game that I've had
so far this year. And you know why, right yeah? Uh?
You you lost your opening game against by one point
(19:19):
to a team out of state, which we don't. You
know who they are and know about them, and they're
a good team. If they beat they're good.
Speaker 12 (19:25):
Yeah, they're undefeated. Still obly they.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Jumped you in the polls made me mad. I probably
didn't you You probably gonna look at him. Yeah, I
was like I, you know, I and and put the
team uh Lambs ahead of you, and you went ahead
and figured it out Friday night.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (19:40):
Yeah, I appreciate you and d Mark coming. That meant
a lot to us. Uh. We had a great crowd,
we got a great game time environment.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
You know what had been to a game that you
didn't coach, and you know, I and and a lot
of people and on your side know me, I saw wrong.
I mean I saw Robert Llwood. I just saw all
kinds of people that coach maddicks.
Speaker 12 (19:58):
Yeah, rustematics and our good friends.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Yeah, I saw him and all his grand chip well not.
Speaker 12 (20:03):
All of some of them he got. He got a passer.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
He does from what I understand. But I tell you what, coach,
he started out. I meant to ask you a question
to open and run. You're running back when about sixty something,
and he looked like he slowed down to maybe cut
underneath or something. I was like, man, why don't he
just run there?
Speaker 12 (20:24):
He's used to getting caught from behind. He's looking for
somebody to come up.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Not down there, but you know, you know where we
were standing. I was like, why did he stop? I
was like, man, I thought he could have beat him
to the corner, just me. You saw them. You were
closer to me.
Speaker 12 (20:38):
When he got to the six.
Speaker 13 (20:39):
We had first and goal of the six, and we
ran power again off tackle and we got to the
forest which second gold and four, and then we went
in motion and their team haulered motion real loud, and
our center got a case of the yips and he
shot the ball back of the quarterback before he was ready.
The next thing, you know, it's third and gold from
the fifteen and you're like, old boy, what I call here?
(21:02):
But so we didn't get points there. That was kind
of big to me, Jeff. And but we did end
up winning field position and we ended up getting a
safety on the next possession and then we went down
score made it eight to nothing. So it was eight
to nothing at the half. So it was anybody's game
at the half. And then we come out the third
quarter against start Ball. We did not come out in
(21:25):
the third quarter play. We kind of fell apart, and
we talked about that at halftime.
Speaker 12 (21:29):
You know, the here's what.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
I believe, Jeff.
Speaker 13 (21:31):
The first five minutes of the second half are huge
to me. I think that goes a long ways towards.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Most good coaches.
Speaker 13 (21:41):
Yeah, well that you got to break the game down
in segments at times, you know, even though it was
two twelve minute quarters. So we came out and scored
in two plays and I thought that really made a
resounding statement. And then defensively, you know, shut out. That
was a back that was already approaching a thousand yards
at three hundred yards rushing the week before, and we
(22:02):
held them to twenty three yards for the game, so defensively, we're.
Speaker 12 (22:06):
Playing at a real high level.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Yeah, you, coach, all right, this week you got Fort Dale. Yeah,
last year you beat them thirty six to seven. No,
the last time you played them was twenty twenty one.
Is that right now?
Speaker 12 (22:16):
We played them last year?
Speaker 2 (22:18):
I I.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Yeah, that we played last year together.
Speaker 10 (22:21):
And that was a score.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (22:22):
We have very rarely played Fort Dale in the history
of Chambers Academy because they've always been a classification up
from us. But we're now in the same classification and
that started becoming a yearly thing. And that's a very
well established school there in Greenville, Alabama, and big school
and so they've always got some physical players and we
(22:45):
got to go there again. The schedule just worked out.
We had to go to them two years in a row,
so we'll have a challenge. And here's the thing, Jeff,
after you went an emotional game like Loundes, you got
to be ready to play that next Friday.
Speaker 12 (22:58):
You know you ain't.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Kidding, coach. And it's it's a non region.
Speaker 12 (23:01):
Game, right, Yes, it is a non region it's.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
A non region game. Of course, you won't win them
all and so yeah, I can say, say your point, Coach,
that wasn't I mean, yeah, come on, your boys can read.
They know that's right.
Speaker 12 (23:13):
So you just got to avoid good things.
Speaker 13 (23:15):
I've got an old team, a mature team, so they
understand when I'm talking seriously.
Speaker 12 (23:20):
They listen to them.
Speaker 13 (23:21):
And you know, guys, we play once a week. It's
five days for it. You got to be ready to
play once a week. It's not like basketball or baseball
where you play two or three times a week.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
That's the award. Friday night is the award for all
the hard work.
Speaker 12 (23:32):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
You know, you get your.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Joining us now.
Speaker 12 (23:36):
Yeah from goods here, King Penn's.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Pen the area. Yeah, throwing away your bottle. Coach out
in good seat. Man, I enjoyed being in your complex.
Speaker 12 (23:47):
Well, it's great to have two celebrities where they were.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yeah, Robert Maddocks, I saw, we.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Saw coach Maddicks.
Speaker 10 (23:56):
But we enjoyed it.
Speaker 12 (23:57):
Coach now, but to me, that's kind of like a
game day coming to the game. Jeff and Morrow, we
enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Couch I talked to that, We talked, Yeah, we did.
Seemed like he's a very serious.
Speaker 13 (24:09):
Listen, shames Speed simply he's been he's been coaching football
for forty years. He was a high school coach when
I was playing.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 12 (24:17):
And at Lounges and then.
Speaker 13 (24:19):
He went to Fort Dale and say twenty five years
and Lounges just hrded back.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
How about that? He was serious in that game.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
He was very focused.
Speaker 14 (24:26):
He said, we're gonna try to hold our part of this,
just see what we can do.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
And we were trying to break him, but he wouldn't.
Speaker 12 (24:34):
Yeah, he wasn't gonna break.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Didn't get in a smile.
Speaker 14 (24:38):
He was just like, okay, Oh, George was like, George
said that he's pretty straight.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
I'll tell you know. Ronnie controls that way.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Except Ronnie was the other. Except he spoke and said,
I don't know how we're gonna do. We just barely hear.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
He said, man, we don't even good.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
We wanted fifty six nothing something like that.
Speaker 14 (24:57):
It was one of them, kind of kind of like
you right now. Anyway, I just wanted to say how
much I enjoyed.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Go ahead, you have not catch.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Up with Well, he's got he's got for what do
they do with?
Speaker 10 (25:04):
What is that?
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Before?
Speaker 12 (25:05):
Fordell's and running football team a lot like us.
Speaker 13 (25:08):
You know, they got some big, strong kids and they're
gonna try to play great defense and running football and
throw the ball when they want to, not when they
have to.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Yeah, I got there. You go.
Speaker 14 (25:17):
That's that's a great When you can do that successfully,
you're ahead of the game.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Everybody's got a thirty teen play right pass play I
don't have many.
Speaker 10 (25:24):
They're good.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Your eleven yards and turn turn out.
Speaker 13 (25:28):
Well, you know, we had a third and about seventeen
other night and we came up with a we got
fifteen of it back and we're able to get it
on fourth and two. But you know, that's the thing
I'm trying to do. You I don't think you can
call it trying to get it all back at once.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Yeah. I was impressed with your physical nature of your kids.
The physical the physical number sixty six and the way
they look.
Speaker 12 (25:51):
That's Spencer Newman and they look Spencer and.
Speaker 13 (25:54):
He's he's committed to Murray State and Kentuscky's like he's
a big young them.
Speaker 10 (25:58):
He is pretty good.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
We got coach Bringwood over there. But no, I was
impressed with with the waight.
Speaker 14 (26:05):
I can tell you got a lot of weight. You
emphasize the weight program. Your team was way more physical
looking than the other team.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Okay, don't mean that, not trying to be disrespectful, but
I just saw a lot that night.
Speaker 12 (26:16):
Yeah, I thought that was obvious.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
It was coach and.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
You own a little fan just looking at him. They
were Yeah, they were like a different team.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, your team was so much more physical looking than
they were. Yeah, all of them, I mean a.
Speaker 13 (26:28):
Z yeah there zero look, but that other team had
a lot of hard Yeah, you've been a very good
football team.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
I'm just we were both of us, were we all
three of us in Prenceville.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
We saw I just like for you guys, that the
way we settled it on the field. We don't have
to worry.
Speaker 12 (26:43):
Yeah, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Rank and enjoyed it. Good seek work. We'd love you too.
Speaker 14 (26:50):
That's Jason Allen, head coach of the Chambers Academy Rebels.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
They've got at Fort Dale. This week, we'll take a
quick break at Mose Barbie. You continue with more coaches
from the Ice School Coaches Show.
Speaker 14 (27:04):
Welcome back to the High School Coaches Show here at
Moe's Barbecue, Bent Creek and Auburn. Our show has brought

Speaker 14 (27:21):
They got all kinds of food for you to have,
not just barbecue, but they've got it all. We encourage
you to come by here.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
D Mark, Jeff, James, well, not.
Speaker 14 (27:30):
James, but Jason about to said James, Jason, and Van Riggs.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Here we got all on site.
Speaker 14 (27:35):
Head coach at least got Warriors has just arrived, Buster Daniels.
The Warriors currently this season have lost zero there five
and oh coming off an open week?
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Who did me? Last week?
Speaker 9 (27:45):
Open?
Speaker 14 (27:46):
And they were the week before that they beat Randolph
fifty eight thirty three. They go to Daville and they
are ironically oh and one lost thirteen to ten, which
I did not know it was only one game. I
should have known that because that had been at HSA.
But whenever a little little lapse. But good afternoon, coach.
Speaker 15 (28:03):
Good, good afternoon, d Mark Jeff. I know he took
his headphones off.
Speaker 14 (28:06):
Good to see you guys, man, It's good to see you.
Hope your legs doing better. It looks painful.
Speaker 16 (28:11):
Well, it's not painful.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
It's just a it's a pain in the neck.
Speaker 16 (28:13):
Let me say that.
Speaker 15 (28:15):
You know, Hey, hey, I'm giving a shout out there.
Doctor Dooley and all the guys that peded this thing
has not hurt one.
Speaker 16 (28:21):
Single good you told me that. Man, it's been a
buzzing surprise.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
That's it's just it's just it is.
Speaker 14 (28:27):
I can tell it, even George, that's got to be bothering.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
We'll get that thing off. You're supposed to just start
walking around, put a foot on it.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Six weeks, so you know it's.
Speaker 15 (28:36):
Gonna be hopefully Monday we get to cast off and
get a boot on and hope you start walking a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
So well they okay, so you don't have to be
with a boot. You'd be able to be on sideline
without your Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Okay, Brandon, last night I should have asked him about you.
Speaker 14 (28:50):
I'm sure he went right into details. Ye call them
hip and the job. So they are, and I'm glad
you said that. They're great folks.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
All right, coach, you're coming off of the open week.
We didn't talk a little bit about it. Look, you
wasn't here last week for us to brag on you.
Speaker 14 (29:06):
I was so impressed with your game with Russell I
mean with Randolph County to keep want to say Russell
County with Randolph County, coach y'all out fiscaled them, out
played them, beat them.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Excellent win, excellent wine. It was fifty eight thirty three.
Speaker 16 (29:19):
Right, that's a great win for our kids.
Speaker 15 (29:21):
You know, I told you last time I was here
that Randolph County had an outstanding running back. Did he
He's great the player, you know, get a little scene
and he's gone. We actually slowed him down. I think
he had four touchdowns and he did so. I mean,
he's an outstanding player. But I wouldn't trade any virus
for him.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Right now.
Speaker 15 (29:40):
We got outstanding running back, quarterback, a couple of running backs.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
So yeah, it was a great game for us, big
win for us.
Speaker 16 (29:49):
You know.
Speaker 15 (29:49):
It just just one more step that we needed in
our region towards the playoffs. And I thought our kids
played extremely well. We did things the right way, took
care of business.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
There's no out you did, coach. I know, I can't
remember Zachary played well Brooks. I'm getting the name right.
And then your quarterback played well.
Speaker 14 (30:10):
But I thought your whole team played well, coach, really
absolutely right.
Speaker 15 (30:14):
You know, defense, it kind of sounded like a broken
record or this is this is really not tape.
Speaker 16 (30:18):
From two weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Brooks Zachary had another great game.
Speaker 10 (30:20):
He did.
Speaker 15 (30:21):
I mean, he like two hundred sixty yards rushing, five touchdowns.
You know, the difference in his yards and the Winston
kid from run Off County is Brooks is running through
around and he's not just getting on side. His eight
hundred nine hundred yards he's got has been tough yards
up to the middle of them. Yeah, he is, and
he just he runs. He's relentless. He you know, he
(30:41):
just don't they don't want to go down.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
That last touchdown was his effort one.
Speaker 16 (30:44):
Oh absolutely yeah.
Speaker 14 (30:47):
But yeah, those guys got tired of here, They got
tired of hitting him.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
You know that.
Speaker 15 (30:50):
Again, it's not a recording, but you know Max Hammer
had good.
Speaker 14 (30:54):
And had a run for a touchdown early in the game,
which is very surprised your game offictional line, I like pressing,
guys are just playing really good.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
But you know, defense stepped up play.
Speaker 15 (31:04):
I mean, like I said, the guy got a couple
of scenes and you're not gonna catching when he got lose.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Part.
Speaker 15 (31:08):
Other than that, our guys played really well on defense.
But I'm gonna think I think the player of the
game took me in my eyes was our kicker.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
He did, I tell you good.
Speaker 16 (31:17):
He's just a nice grader.
Speaker 15 (31:19):
But number two, mister Winston had zz kick off return
yards away from all night.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
All night, every every kick and he and and he
made all his kicks. I believe he made all the
ex points and one guy blocked.
Speaker 16 (31:30):
Okay, so we got lazy.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
It wasn't his fault. That was time was good and
we just got lazy. Yeah. And and I don't think
they scored one of their touchdowns. He was out about
one yard line.
Speaker 16 (31:38):
But that was all right, It didn't really that's okay,
you know, you know what.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
I'm talking about. Yeah, your guy hit the yet, But anyway,
it's okay. I was on that sideline saw it. But
it wasn't a good good game.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
You got it.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
You wanted you had the week off, the week after
you good after that?
Speaker 10 (31:53):
It did?
Speaker 2 (31:53):
You know?
Speaker 15 (31:54):
We practed a couple of days last week. We got
a chance to rest up, some fix and fix a
few things we need to fix.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
But the rest was more than anything. We played five
tough you did.
Speaker 15 (32:03):
Now we got five maybe even tougher on the next
five games forms on the gett.
Speaker 16 (32:10):
Any easier and there on the road.
Speaker 15 (32:12):
We needed that rest again, fix some things we need
to fix, you know, and just get ready for our
next next five games.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
All right, tell me a little bit about playing at Davil.
Speaker 15 (32:24):
David is a really good football team. They're not as
big and as physical as they were last year, but
a good football team. I think I think they've played
better as a team.
Speaker 6 (32:32):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (32:32):
Their quarterback is outstanding.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
You know.
Speaker 15 (32:34):
Coach the Kebby suns a quarterback, that's what you would
tell him, really really good. He played safety for him.
Speaker 17 (32:39):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
They got a couple of backs we gotta take care of. Defensively,
they run to the ball really well.
Speaker 15 (32:44):
Like I said, they're not big, they're not huge, but
they run the ball their game.
Speaker 16 (32:47):
Tackle. They do a good job there.
Speaker 15 (32:49):
Uh and the kicking game again, you know, Uh, Kevy
does a punting for him, does a good job there.
But uh, it's a good football team. We got to
go to their place, which makes it even harder. Another
big game, a region game, and winning this game will
put us really close to hosting them playoff game, which
is our goal. I mean, we were trying to get
the playoffs first and we love to host one for them.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Just jumps in here. How many of these kids remember
last year's lost to them?
Speaker 15 (33:12):
Well, every one of them remember it. Well, we talked
about it now. Yeah, there's three kids that transferred in
so a lot of them. Yeah, but they but we've
talked about it. But the majority of the kids do
remember it.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
That was the hope they tasted.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Them mouth es me and Mark talk about this game.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
I hate to bring it up. It's just one of
the two games that you just go. I'm scratching my
head right there, and I'm not putting them down. They
wanted the game.
Speaker 15 (33:37):
Everybody talked about it, and I told a reporter bout
a week or so ago that you have to talk
about history.
Speaker 16 (33:42):
If you don't, it's gonna repeat itself.
Speaker 15 (33:44):
We love that we have to talk about the game. Yeah,
and let the kids know what was taken from them
last year. You know, really, I'm true, we gave it.
But if they took, they took.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
They won the game.
Speaker 15 (33:55):
Didn't help me in absolutely wanted and they deserve the
game they did. I won't take anything from them, but
our guys got to learn from mistakes, fix mistakes, and
move on.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Yeah, just right. We've had a couple of people talking
about it. Someoneost like we talked about.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
It was a pivotal game.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
You knew. I asked that question, absolutely, and you already
conquered the round.
Speaker 14 (34:14):
We remember too, just like you do because we go.
But anyway, kids, you want to bring up this week
and practice. Anybody playing? Everybody good this week?
Speaker 6 (34:21):
Everybody's good. You know.
Speaker 15 (34:22):
We lost Joe King, a little ninth grade defensive lineman,
offensive lineman. Uh, he's gonna have a little lee surgery
next week. Nothing major, just a little maniscus.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Watch Johnson's back. So we should be good to go on.
Help good? All right?
Speaker 14 (34:35):
At Davill Friday night, your radio crew will have it.
I'm sure, thank you, Coach Daniel.
Speaker 16 (34:40):
Off Funday, yep, absolutely, me too.
Speaker 14 (34:41):
All right, The Warriors undefeated, looking to remain at six
and oh as they take on Dave Well Friday night.
High school coaching show for Modes continues with more coaches.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Right after this.
Speaker 18 (34:53):

Speaker 14 (35:08):
Our show is brought to you by Frederick Dean Crematory,
Funeral Home of Crematory, Gory's Furniture and Orthopedic Clinic, and
Moles Barbecue. Keith Effigs in his fifth season at Aubuurt
High as the head coach, and he is currently five
and o coming off a forty one seven win over Moody.
This gentleman is four wins away from two hundred wins.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
He didn't even know. I knew that today, but I do.
I do.
Speaker 19 (35:32):
Said I'm five and oh I'll take five.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
And oh oh wait man, we did we did?
Speaker 2 (35:36):
I got? Yeah, I got. I forgot about that Vins
Davy game.
Speaker 14 (35:40):
Yeah, all right, we'll scratch it was not let me
do and horse racing sometimes you will go, let's draw
a line through that race there.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
So we're gonna draw a line through that scratch. What's up, coach,
I'm doing great, man, Well we're good. Well miss and
missus to night.
Speaker 19 (35:54):
Yeah, she's she is getting her hair done, our hair did.
I told her, I said, well, I'll come home and
I'll be married to a young woman.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Getting their hair did all right.
Speaker 14 (36:03):
Last week, Moody, a lot of people thought this game
was gonna be close, but it was not close.
Speaker 19 (36:07):
Well, you know, we're played really good. I think we
played really good. Thirty four and a half time.
Speaker 20 (36:12):
Little kids came out.
Speaker 19 (36:13):
And played really well. We had some big plays, you know, defensively,
we had a pick six. Aiden Parker had a pick
six right there before half, or about about two drives
before half. And then they they went for it on
their own thirty eight forty yard line right before half,
(36:34):
with about a minute and twenty five seconds, and we
stopped them, got the ball back, and you know, I
got some receivers who you get in their hands, they
can make some plays. Yeah, Case and Casing got it
to a couple guys and Tony Tony scored scored a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Right before half.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
So it made thirty four put that down.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Yeah, Yeah, you know, we we played really good.
Speaker 19 (36:56):
They've got a lot of players, so, I mean, Moody's
got a really good team.
Speaker 10 (36:59):
I see them.
Speaker 19 (37:00):
They're probably gonna be in the state championship, you think, so, yeah, yeah,
they're they're pretty good.
Speaker 9 (37:04):
You know.
Speaker 19 (37:05):
So he's done a really good job over there, as
far as you know, they've got a lot of talent,
got a lot of talent who played well for you coaching, Oh,
we had a.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Bunch of guys played well.
Speaker 19 (37:16):
Cason had three hundred and fifty yards over you know,
he's like twenty he's like eighteen for twenty two twenty
three for over two hundred yards and three touchdowns. He rushed,
he had twelve catch for over one hundred and fifty
yards and a touchdown. So, uh, he played really well.
Of course, you know, all of our receivers play good.
(37:37):
And defense. We we played lots out our offensive line.
Trent Britchett, uh, you know, he he had a really
good game. Tucker Albyn had a good game r center,
and then.
Speaker 16 (37:48):
Tucker Tucker's a guard.
Speaker 19 (37:50):
We moved King to center, you know, after after the
Old black A game, moved King to center. That has
made a big difference. I think that you know, Chuckle
was kind of playing the country, was trying to play
out of position just because.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
That's where we need him at the time.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Uh, and King has done a.
Speaker 19 (38:06):
Really good job of stepping in and playing playing it
playing center. I mean, he's getting the snaps right there,
staying fast, and you know, uh, all of our timing's
timing up a lot better. So you know, it's it's
made a big difference offense. You know how it is
that that snap has a lot to do with timing,
and we're running speech weeks and stuff like that, and
(38:28):
it's it's it's been a big, a big good gift
for moving him.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Sounds like it, all right.
Speaker 14 (38:34):
We got Central this week, coach coming up the Red Devils, Well,
I would say Underfeid, they're just like y'alli one they
lost last.
Speaker 19 (38:41):
Week as well, say that they're playing a nationally ranked team.
Since you've got a really good football team. You know,
they're Central, they're athletic, you know, they're they're well coached.
They've got you know, defensively, they're really really fast, you know,
and offensively Coleman, you know, Bobby Coleman, the kids playing quarterback.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
He's throwing the ball all over the place.
Speaker 19 (39:04):
They've got some really good young receivers. They got a
freshman receiver that can out go really yeah, he's not
They always have receivers over there.
Speaker 16 (39:11):
Yeah, yeah, two good running backs.
Speaker 19 (39:14):
So you know, we gotta we got to make sure
that we're where we're supposed to be, you know. So,
uh but defensive we played we played really good defense,
and we've played good defense.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
You say you've played good defense the week before too, Yeah,
you got.
Speaker 19 (39:29):
I mean, and you know that that's a testament to
our decordinator.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Yeah, what about know that guy he's.
Speaker 14 (39:35):
Good, Yeah, excellent, He's gonna be about me about the
practice this week.
Speaker 16 (39:41):
Yeah, we've we've had two really good practices or three
really good practices.
Speaker 19 (39:47):
This morning we went, you know, had a good practice
this morning. You know, they've they've been focused, you know,
so they're excited about the game. You know, this is
going to have some big region implications. I think that
you know there right now, I mean, they're they're the
team to beat in the region. They're undefeated. I think
we're undefeated. We're undefeeding region wise. I think that's the
(40:09):
only two region. Carver's underfeeding.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
That's right road.
Speaker 19 (40:13):
But it's still they're fixing the pick up load load up,
and so are we. You know, we got we got Central,
We've got Carver, we got both.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
I mean I still got Carver in Central too, so
you're it's.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Fixing hit the meat.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Yeah, you know, rubbers fixing hit the road and.
Speaker 16 (40:31):
Think about that. I said, that's gonna be a good ball.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
So, I mean, there's a lot of football. It seems
like we lined it up the region to schedule tho
with the top four or five are going to be
playing each other. Yeah here last year, you know, just
you beat them over there, coach, you know what, I'm.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Glad we're playing. I was gonna ask you, what does
it mean playing?
Speaker 19 (40:53):
It's it's big getting the play at the duck, you know.
But the only two times, I think, the only two
times I've been here five years, beat.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Him twice over there games trying to change.
Speaker 21 (41:04):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (41:05):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
What we talked to ask you, as good as the
team as I know, that's what you said.
Speaker 19 (41:14):
It's surprising because I thought they were gonna be a
little everybody said that.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
You know, they may be.
Speaker 19 (41:18):
A little damn but but you know, uh, I think
that Patrick's done as good as John coaching this group
as he has since he's been there.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
I don't think up well and in the last ten years,
I don't think I've seen a Central team that didn't
have eleven guys on defense that ran at you really fat.
Speaker 14 (41:34):
And they all look sick something about something something defensive
back all about six five.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
You know, they look like they all looked.
Speaker 19 (41:42):
At their program. You know, their program they do have
to produce. And you know, hat Maker, their defensive coordinator.
He's he's all about speed, being physical and.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
You know, so he fit right in there.
Speaker 14 (41:55):
Yeah, absolutely, all right, Keys of the game coaching, we
cannot turn the ball up, you can.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
That's that's gonna be huge for us.
Speaker 19 (42:03):
We gotta we gotta calls coach of turnovers, get some
get some momentum early, you know, and and just give
our self opportunities at the end of the game and
then find a way to win, because these guys have
found ways to win with all kids have found ways now,
so you know, we just got to give our self opportunities.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Coach Keith e It's good to see it. But thank
you for Benny. Let's go to High and the Central
Red Devils at the Duck Friday night.
Speaker 14 (42:26):
Get your tickets right now, go fan dot C take
a break, come back more coaches from Mose Barbecue and
the Coaches Shows.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show, Jeff
sasserd Want Mitchell, Jason Earl Lee. We've got fan voice
of the Dogs Rigs in the house, and we're coming
to your life from those original barbecue right here on
Fox Sports The Game nineteen thirteen ten. Of course, it's
brought to you by the Orltipede Clinic, Frederick Dean Funeral Home,
and Gory's Front of Shut Express. And next up it's
coach Jason Scott, coach Jeff Miller from Southern Christian the Patriots.
(42:58):
Last week you played American Sports Prep. Now Tim again,
where are they from?
Speaker 22 (43:03):
And then we'll go to they are tuscaloosive based team.
It's John Teasley, who's.
Speaker 23 (43:08):
The former athletic director over there at North River Christian
School up in Tuscaloosa. He's also the head basketball coach.
It's still in college. Y'all probably know him, you just
don't know him. He's got a big record up there,
got a bunch of wins. He started this thing to
kind of help guys because in that area there's really
not a there's really not a homeschool football option, and
(43:31):
so he started this thing up to try to help
the guys in that area that are, you know, homeschool
football guys.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
So, hey, you won fifty two to eight? Who had
big games for you?
Speaker 9 (43:40):
Coach?
Speaker 1 (43:42):
I'm and I'm assuming at least one of them is
a Scott.
Speaker 6 (43:44):
Well, you're gonna be surprised here.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
This is a surprise surprised me.
Speaker 24 (43:48):
Because of our scouting report, we decided to rest a
couple of kids, Judge Scott being one of them.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
But we put Gabe.
Speaker 24 (43:55):
Decker in there to replace him, and we also rested
Braden Jerkins because he's got some Achilles problems.
Speaker 2 (44:02):
And so Gabe came.
Speaker 24 (44:03):
Out and he was our kicker, our kick returner, our
punt returner, our wide receiver, and our defensive back.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
He played.
Speaker 24 (44:12):
Near it about if you watch the game film is
hilarious because he kicks the ball off and he runs
down there and makes the tackle, and then he makes
the next tackle on defense, the next tackle on defense.
And I gave him a hard time when he came over,
and I said, you know you got a team, you
can let it.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
You know your brothers help you.
Speaker 24 (44:27):
So but he had four total touchdowns, a pick six
punt return for a touchdown, and two receiving tds.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
So he is the game of his life.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
Yeah, I mean so, even if we have to rest
our starters, it's very good to know that.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
The number two's are just there too.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
Okay, well, fifty two eight, he did a lot of
scoring this week. He got Jacksonville Christian Academy. Yeah, have
y'all played them before?
Speaker 2 (44:51):
Played them last year?
Speaker 1 (44:52):
Okay, well, I don't have a score from last year.
Speaker 22 (44:54):
Y'all remember how uh don't remember to score from last year?
Right off the back you win?
Speaker 23 (44:58):
I was this was that Jacksonville team got that really
great quarterback. Note Noah Lee, he's already going to play
somewhere Miller.
Speaker 22 (45:06):
Uh, he's going to jack State jackson still commit star
and excellent, excellent ball player.
Speaker 9 (45:13):
Uh.
Speaker 23 (45:14):
He did get a little banged up against their last
game with Russell out of Redy, Mississippi.
Speaker 6 (45:19):
And uh but all in all that, they're going to
be coming from blood.
Speaker 23 (45:23):
We did beat them last year. US and one of
the other teams in our conference were the only two
teams to beat.
Speaker 10 (45:27):
Them last year.
Speaker 23 (45:28):
And then they got in the playoff I think, and
they got beat in the championship game in the playoff.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
I don't believe they won.
Speaker 6 (45:33):
They didn't win, did they Miller.
Speaker 10 (45:34):
They got beat by Cornerstone.
Speaker 6 (45:36):
I think they won it last year.
Speaker 23 (45:37):
They did win it, Okay, it was between two of
them anyway, So they are they're in AI.
Speaker 6 (45:43):
No, they are cf A.
Speaker 10 (45:45):
So that's that Christian Uh yeah, yeah, yeah association.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Yeah, okay, all right, but there's a cornerstone that plays
a Yes they are they are? Is it the same cornerstone?
Speaker 6 (45:56):
It is not? It is when there are two cornerstones.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Okay, all right, that's what you know. There's any two evangels.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
Yep, yeah, and there's two evangels.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
That's about ezekiels is just one only one Now I
always have to know which evangelis it is? Now the
one out of Alabasta.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
That's the tough one.
Speaker 1 (46:10):
They're pretty good.
Speaker 6 (46:11):
Yeah, that's the one in our conference. They're the ones
that give us fits. We see them next.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
Week, right, Hey, what we gotta do? Jack? How good
are these are there this year? Jason?
Speaker 2 (46:20):
Good?
Speaker 23 (46:20):
Therefore and one, uh they only lost to Russell and
that's when no Elite got knocked out of the game.
Speaker 10 (46:26):
State School Yep, yep they are.
Speaker 22 (46:29):
They are in that same conference though, and they're they're
an excellent program that they've got an.
Speaker 23 (46:35):
Old school football coach there. You know, Doc Miller has
been there forever. He's the principal of the school. Big
standout in this one.
Speaker 2 (46:42):
You were telling us be there forever.
Speaker 23 (46:43):
And their school got hit by that tornado. That community
poured out and built them a new school and everything.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
All right, all right, Well, so everybody's healthy though this game, right.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
We are about healthy.
Speaker 22 (46:57):
Yes, sir, Jagger will be back to his He didn't
get to run the ball a couple of times in
the last game.
Speaker 23 (47:03):
Every time he touched it, he scored. But uh, you
know we.
Speaker 1 (47:07):
Will playing this game.
Speaker 10 (47:08):
Jerkins should be back.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
They should be back for him. So we got them
all back. I think you all right, see.
Speaker 10 (47:15):
Ya, Thanks guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 14 (47:17):
Y'all got the jack ya gotta yep, we got long
ride the hall flats.
Speaker 10 (47:21):
Oh yes, sir, Right, we're doing good though.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Guys.
Speaker 14 (47:23):
Appreciate y'all. Yeah, appreciate y'all being here. That's the Southern prep.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
We'll take a quick break to come back. Music.
Speaker 14 (47:32):
That music means we're at Moe's Barbecue for the High
School Coaches Show every Wednesday night and the fall. Our
show is brought to you by the Orthopedic Clinic, Gorye's Furniture,
and Frederick Dean Fumer Home Crematory. Moe's Barbecue has two
locations downtown Auburn and right here at Bent Creek. They
have something for every member of your family, including vegetables
(47:53):
and for your adults that like beverages that have those two.
So we go from the kids to the adult beverages
and all in between. They got the best scrilled cheese
in the area.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
I vouched for that. Then net Panthers are in the house.
The Panthers are currently. They have lost two games.
Speaker 10 (48:08):
There four and two.
Speaker 14 (48:09):
They lost last week. I was messing with coach before
we came on there. I had to make sure I
said that right. They lost a very tough game to
a four age scool Handley last week fifteen to thirteen.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
Coach R mcday, R J. McDonalds and Coach Williams are
in the house. Gentlemen, are y'all good to see you guys.
Tough loss last week coach McDonald to a full a
handley thirteen fifteen.
Speaker 6 (48:33):
Yeah, Yeah, really tough one.
Speaker 13 (48:34):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (48:34):
You know, I thought our boys competed really well.
Speaker 25 (48:36):
We got up there in a really good environment, you know,
possibly could be one of the better ones we see
all the way up until the playoffs. And uh, you know,
I think that for us, as you know, we harp
on it a lot, that the little things could get
you beat sometimes and you know, some of that stuff
might have reared its head a little bit, which is
you know, that's that's that's on me. Uh as the
(48:57):
head coach, I got to make sure that stuff doesn't happen.
But you know, we had a chance to win it
there at the end and uh, you know we just
you know, it didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
What happened.
Speaker 6 (49:05):
Then we got the ball back coach t you know,
we had we had fourth one.
Speaker 25 (49:09):
Uh we had fourth and one twice within a two
to three minutes fan and uh he punted it both times,
which really telling on what they were thinking, you know,
and got it back on the seventeen sixteen yard line
and uh moved it out to about the thirty with
some penalties and forty about the forty with some penalties
and stuff, and uh, you know just kind of stalled out, honestly,
(49:33):
so but you had chances. Just uh, I think we
kind of got a little uh you know to antsy
a little bit like kids on the road. Yeah, just
doing what they instead of doing what you were coached do.
Instead of trying to find the home run every time,
do the check down, you know, just take what you take,
what you're getting or giving. And uh, you know, coaches
(49:54):
preach out all the time, even in practice. You know,
take take what you got. But uh, you know, it
just it just didn't happen. And that's okay. We were
learning from it. I think our kids understood that that
they went toe to toe with a really good.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
For a football team.
Speaker 25 (50:08):
I mean, got a shot that that could play for
a while, and you know when we hung in there
blow for blow, and uh, I couldn't be more proud
of the guys, especially on the defensive Van Man, they
did a phenomenal job. And offensively we were able to
move the ball. It's just when of the little the
limited possessions, it's tough.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
How do we get to that? Fifteen thirteen was it
field goes? You know, so what happened?
Speaker 25 (50:29):
Yeah, they scored twice, got each point and then we
were to off sides and then they went for two. Okay,
they missed one or miss one, uh and.
Speaker 6 (50:39):
Food have probably made both or the first one.
Speaker 2 (50:41):
I probably would have went for too.
Speaker 6 (50:42):
Got you, I got you.
Speaker 14 (50:43):
I'm just curious how we came up with that. Everybody
make it out healthy, good team.
Speaker 6 (50:46):
Yeah, yeah, we're pretty healthy.
Speaker 25 (50:48):
I mean, you know all the nicks and bruises and
bangs up, you know, banged up, but nothing bad.
Speaker 2 (50:52):
Anybody keys of the game you want to mention, I
know that somebody had to play well. Not keys of
the game, players of the game. Quinz Quiz had a
big big and somebody played good.
Speaker 6 (51:04):
Yeah. Oh yeah, that's a big guy. Yeah. Well, they
were driving to go twenty one. It would have been
yes between.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
It would have been twenty one six one six.
Speaker 6 (51:15):
Yeah, he intercept the passing his one, Uh came out.
Speaker 14 (51:18):
We had a big I remember watching that player reading
that the interception in the end zone.
Speaker 26 (51:23):
We had a big goal line stand right because they
had swing uh several people on that tackle and the
Darius Morgan, t J. Brewers, p J. Steegers, uh r J.
Speaker 2 (51:34):
Tucker.
Speaker 6 (51:34):
I mean we had several guys on that play. I
commend the defense man.
Speaker 25 (51:38):
They played really well all night long, you know, offensively, Uh,
Trey Jackson, he played really well line uh and on
defense man, he was, he was stout at his job
all night long. And you know, offensively, I thought Fred
Broughton at times played really well.
Speaker 6 (51:57):
Uh.
Speaker 25 (51:57):
Terrell Staples had a couple of really big third down
catches for us, and uh, you know Eddie Mitchell had
a touchdown catch.
Speaker 6 (52:05):
Just a just a really big you know, it was.
It was a good, good game all round.
Speaker 25 (52:09):
You know, you can't really pinpoint, you know, it's just
one of them slow, fast games where everybody was ready
to go and we went toe to toe with a
really good football team all right.
Speaker 14 (52:16):
This week Coach Real Town another very football team, physical,
well coached, mind me. I mean they've been a championship team.
Matt Johnson's does a tremendous job. Tremendous job.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
I'll let you tell me.
Speaker 25 (52:28):
There is yeah, I'll go uh, I'll go for their
defense real quick, you know, really good defense.
Speaker 6 (52:33):
Coach.
Speaker 25 (52:34):
Well, uh, they do what they do, uh, and they
kind of have this like I'm not gonna call it funky,
but they do.
Speaker 6 (52:39):
They do some stuff that's maybe a.
Speaker 25 (52:40):
Little unorthodox sometimes against certain formations, and but but it
works for you know, and so for us, it's just
being pretty sound, you know, being really sound on offense
and and making sure that we're reading our cues, reading
what was supposed to.
Speaker 6 (52:55):
Be looking for, and you know, we and and just
put hats on people.
Speaker 25 (52:59):
You know, that's the biggest thing, honestly in that defense
that they run is make sure you get a hat
on somebody and and and do your job. And you
know you're not looking for the kill. Uh, You're just
looking to do your job. So at the end of
the day, man, I think I think we can move
the football. You know, they've they've got a couple of
younger guys at some spots, and but like you said, man,
coach Johnson and those guys do a phenomenal job. I
(53:21):
let coach Williams talking about their offense, come back, circle
back ahead.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
Their quarterback, Oh my goodness. You hear a lot about him.
Speaker 6 (53:28):
Yeah, he's gonna be m l B.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
We're gonna be watching him. Yeah, there's a better baseball. Yeah.
I've been hearing that. He's pretty hard. He's you young
ninety all the time in my backyard.
Speaker 26 (53:40):
But he made some he made some throws for a
two way quarterback, and you just scratch your head, like
the DV.
Speaker 14 (53:47):
Is young too, right, Yeah, I knew he would have
senior anything as a senior, I say, young underclass and.
Speaker 26 (53:53):
They still run the ball that he's opened up so
many doors for their offense because real time the passage
to be wishbone pile. Just run it now one player there,
wishbone knicks played at five wide, Nis played in the eye.
Like He's made the offense so multiple, it's just hard
to the gauge. Would it gonna come out in?
Speaker 2 (54:13):
That's interesting, I know coach Johnson has done that. Yeah,
that is interesting. Now I was looking at this. Tell
me about the net game. That was a high scoring game.
They scored forty I mean lux pokus. Yeah, they scored
forty nine points on them.
Speaker 6 (54:24):
Yeah, so uh seventy three four.
Speaker 25 (54:26):
Yeah, it was a really good offensive ball game that
you know, they went after each other, you know, on
the offensive end.
Speaker 6 (54:31):
That it was just a back and forth back just man, you.
Speaker 25 (54:34):
Know, uh, you know, Poker got a lot of guys
out in space and Real Town kind of hit them
in the mouth a little bit, and uh Space spaced
them out, hit some deep balls and it was just,
uh it was just an offensive slug fest.
Speaker 14 (54:46):
And then fourteen nothing last week with David they shut
them out. It's like they give up forty nine one week,
good sag. The next week they scored fifty seventy three
and fourteen.
Speaker 6 (54:56):
Yeah. I think I think the I think the Day
will score half that half. Yeah well well well not that,
but I think they will.
Speaker 25 (55:05):
You know, kind of what they do is they like
slinging around, but yeah, good, but they will move the ball.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
You know, only played a half because of light.
Speaker 25 (55:13):
Yeah yeah, yeah, but you know they will move the
ball really well. And uh, you know, I think for
us it's just gonna be you know, kind of that.
You know, we gotta be able to move the football.
And you know, I do think that, you know, defensive,
if we keep playing how we're playing.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
I like, is your kids understand hey this is another
very import Yeah.
Speaker 25 (55:27):
Well yeah, and I think we've done a really good
job all year. Coach Michael chime in on this. Uh,
we've done a really good job on on making sure
they understand each week is and they you know, don't
look ahead, don't behind, don't you know, just live in
the moment, Live in the moment.
Speaker 27 (55:40):
This game at home, yeah, yest, yeah, a little bit
in fact, three at home, three at home Morgan, Washington
Stadium Slipper story Fields.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
I got it right, you guys.
Speaker 14 (55:55):
That's versus the Real Town Real Bill Rebels Friday Night
and letting that take a break, We'll come back to
Moe's Barbecue as we continue with the High School Coaches Show.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches Show. We're

said Dean Mark Mitchell. Jason Earl Lee.
Speaker 2 (56:15):
Well, yeah, that man is still in the house with
his cup shirt on, pulling them cups.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Well, I don't know if he's pulling them through.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
I forgot, I forgot. I'm not gonna crack.
Speaker 1 (56:23):
Hey, it's brought to you, of course by the Orthopedic Clintic.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
Barbicue I entergy.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
I brought it in as we're live.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
From Moe's original You did, my man, I'm messing with you. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
Once you stay over that.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
Stile, stay in the lane, go ahead in the lane
and uh.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
Frederick Dean Funeral Home in course, Goory's First Express, Pam
and uh Jimmy goree out there at the big Gory's
Great people, great people. Next up, Coach Newman. Yes, sir
from Southern Prep last week, coach big when uh North
River Christian? But no, I'm sorry heritage heritge Christian sixty six,
twenty four. Le's talk about that high game.
Speaker 2 (57:01):
Congrats coach, Yes.
Speaker 4 (57:02):
Sir, it was nice to finally get w on the board.
Speaker 28 (57:06):
It was a long way up there, so we had
a challenge again and getting our kids locked in and
to get there, traffic was about three hours to get there.
It's a best summer in my Calla area. It was right, yeah,
it was, but we got there, we got locked in.
Offense did their job, and defense we did good too.
Speaker 1 (57:26):
Complaints Uh, any any kids you want to talk about?
They played?
Speaker 28 (57:29):
Yeah, we had Ques Jones, who's the freshman running back
receiver uh and kickoff returner. He had I think it
was six total touchdowns. He had four rushing to return,
and he had two picks on defense. So he played
a heck of a game.
Speaker 1 (57:45):
Wow, it sounds like he did this week. Coach, you
got snook Christian. We're snooking.
Speaker 14 (57:50):
I believe it's dothing. Yes, he read the red the Christian.
It is Jason Lee and I saw the school, y'all.
And he later coached at Foley High School to.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
Pick his brain right there.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
You know you know about him? Do you know about him?
Bring it up, tell us about him, Jason. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (58:12):
Keith Smith is their head coach there.
Speaker 2 (58:13):
He was he was your coach.
Speaker 6 (58:15):
Yeah, he was my coach.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
His dad was Lester Smith.
Speaker 17 (58:18):
He's in the Hall of Fame, love fully coached in
the seventies and Keith coach there in the nineties junior
high and then the varsity. And he retired from public
school about ten years ago and took over snook up there.
But that's a private school that they opened up in Folding.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
Good good deal, Thank you, Jason, good job, good job
for you.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
What do we know about Snooke.
Speaker 28 (58:39):
They're gonna spread it out the best they can. On offense,
they run a lot of options, speed, auction, read, option,
and then they throw a ball a lot.
Speaker 9 (58:49):
And then on defense they're gonna bring pressure.
Speaker 28 (58:51):
They an ape man, you know they get They're going
four man front just about every play, and that's not
particularly common. This is and this our first year playing
eight man, so I think they're trying to break it
in and get used to a little bit too.
Speaker 2 (59:06):
They're coming from eleven man.
Speaker 9 (59:08):
They're just I think I think we match up pretty
well with them.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
That should be a good game.
Speaker 28 (59:12):
It's our homecoming game this week, so trying to block
out those distractions for the kids all week.
Speaker 9 (59:18):
So get focused and practice.
Speaker 16 (59:20):
Well every day.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
But have you have you gotten guys back?
Speaker 14 (59:24):
I mean you were the walking wounded a week ago, coach.
I mean, I'm just yeah, we uh, you know, walking
wounded and slimming numbers that.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
Could play you know, we uh, let's see.
Speaker 9 (59:34):
I think we're healthy all the way around.
Speaker 28 (59:36):
We got one guy who's got a nagging little knee injury,
but he wears a brace.
Speaker 6 (59:41):
We can go week the ices every day.
Speaker 9 (59:46):
That's really about it.
Speaker 28 (59:47):
I think going into this week, hopefully it stays that
way for a least marsh practice.
Speaker 6 (59:53):
If we I think, if we stay.
Speaker 16 (59:54):
Healthy, then we'll be all right.
Speaker 1 (59:56):
You know, I was gonna say, hey, this is a
regie game, but everybody, yeah, I wasna say they don't.
The only team that got this on in your region
that hasn't played all uh region opponents. It appears though
North River played a non region opponent because they have
a different record than the region record. Everybody else is
the same. So I mean that's what was there ten
(01:00:16):
teams in the red yeah, ten, yeah, ten h two four, Yeah,
there's ten eight, ten to eleven oh yeah because yeah,
yeah yeah ten games. Excuse me, so very good. Excuse me, Jason.
So your team's healthy for the most part, right now? Yeah,
I mean how many.
Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Will be ready?
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
How many roster wives will be ready? I think it
was fourteen last week?
Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Fifteen? Is okay?
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
So you added one?
Speaker 28 (01:00:42):
Yeah, well, we have one last week that had a
little bit of trouble in the classroom, so we had
to sit them out.
Speaker 14 (01:00:47):
Okay, you got to talk about that, but it's part
of it, right, Yes, that's right. You gotta do what
you gotta do to get right at every school.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
Certainly they're at their school, is sure. So all right,
you got to be excited. Anything else you'd like to
bring up, Uh, that's the wrong. Yeah, I did say, Snooke, Yeah,
you did be good. To quarterback, how do you played
last week?
Speaker 28 (01:01:08):
He played all right, he's uh, he's had a little
magarin hip hip flexer kind of injury. So he told
us he takes out his uh this scrambling if he
can't wave run the ball as much, which takes.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
About half his game out. But he threw the ball well.
Speaker 26 (01:01:22):
He had.
Speaker 28 (01:01:25):
About five three touchdown four touchdowns, and then he had
a pick also he was getting hit the same time
and kind of flow the ball up there.
Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
But other than that, he's played well.
Speaker 28 (01:01:33):
He used to be starting on defense, and I'm trying
to kind of limit him on Defense's God and keep
him healthy, which hurts me, but uh it helps him
out a little bit.
Speaker 6 (01:01:41):
Oh, he says.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
Anyway, we'll do there.
Speaker 9 (01:01:43):
You go all right?
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
Anything else will we go? Coach, I'll do it all right.
Thanks for being Let's see you. Appreciate you coming.
Speaker 14 (01:01:51):
That's a Southern prep in the house at the Coaches
Show Springwood, Russell County Hip Pacelli and Notice.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Sugger all coming your way into Coach Show.
Speaker 14 (01:02:05):
Dean Mark Mitchell, Jeff Sassage, Jason Lee Van Riggs, all
assembled at Moe's Barbecue along with hundreds of others here
at Bent Creek and Auburn. There's two locations to Moe's
to survey. There's one in downtown Auburn and one right
here at Bent Creek and Auburn. We encourage you to
go to both locations. Every Wednesday night. We're right here
for the coaches show. We appreciate Ricky Carmack and Willis
(01:02:26):
and their fine staff for what they do. We also
appreciate the Orthopedic Clinic, Frederick Dean, fumer Horn, the Crematory,
and Gory's Furniture for being one of our three title sponsors.
Springwood wild coach Joey Birch is with us in his
fourth season. Wildcat's coming off a tough fourteen to forty
two loss to evangel Christian.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
He have got him in the house, coach. Good evening,
good evening. How you doing.
Speaker 10 (01:02:51):
I'm doing all right, pretty good.
Speaker 6 (01:02:52):
Good weather.
Speaker 10 (01:02:53):
It's cooling off.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Make it a lot better out here than it does.
Let me tell you something. I'm enjoying it. Last week
I got hoigh.
Speaker 10 (01:02:58):
Friday night's gonna be nice.
Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
It is high is what's like? Seventy eight?
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Is it?
Speaker 22 (01:03:04):
Try being the sixties and the game time, that little
homecoming at spring Wood. We're gonna get everybody back and
get a victory. So get back on our right.
Speaker 14 (01:03:12):
What I'm talking about real quick, evangel Christian and will
move forward.
Speaker 22 (01:03:16):
Yeah, yeah, no, I'm just I'm gonna brag on my kids.
You know, we're basically playing with nine guys and they
had about twenty six They were rotating their defensive lineman
every series, and they had about five or six athletes.
Said rotate in of those three or four that you
play in eight man football, and by nine guys. We
played tough as nails through halftime. We came out midway
(01:03:40):
through third quarter, we were winning fourteen to twelve, and
they just outlasted us. I mean, my kids played so
dang hard. They were just exhausted by about the end
of the third quarter and they just kind of pulled away.
Speaker 10 (01:03:52):
And that's been the case on the games we've lost
this year.
Speaker 22 (01:03:56):
Once again, our young kids that are playing have grown up.
You know, we had a lot that are becoming men
out there. I mean they've just.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Been thrown to the wolves. So sometimes we got to
grow up fast.
Speaker 10 (01:04:06):
And we've had a good week.
Speaker 22 (01:04:08):
We had a bad practice yesterday day, but come back
today with a great one after we had a little
team meeting.
Speaker 10 (01:04:13):
And I just love this football team. I love their grit,
their effort.
Speaker 22 (01:04:17):
You know, they don't have any quit in them, and
they play as hard as they can until they just
can't go anymore. And looking around there on the side
mine to replace them, and they ain't nobody.
Speaker 1 (01:04:28):
I about the ones that had this is the first
time they played American football or they enjoying it.
Speaker 22 (01:04:32):
Coach, Oh, we've got My starting running back is vitnameese
kid James Doe, and he has finally figured out, you know,
the game of football after two years.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
And he's not a bad running back.
Speaker 22 (01:04:43):
You know, started the year we didn't really have a
running back good and we didn't really have a quarterback.
And Adam Baltes is a kid that has grown at quarterback.
And you know, Remy Gain is a kid at tied
end that's just playing. And of course Tucker we talk
about him every week. And Russell Lauderdale, I can just
keep on gaming them.
Speaker 10 (01:05:00):
Carter Fuller and.
Speaker 22 (01:05:01):
His little brother is like I said, talk about last week.
Our two cornerbacks are freshman kids, little bit of kids.
They're playing one hundred and thirty snaps and they went
in the year thinking, Hey, I'm gonna stand around here
on the sideline and get in after we're winning.
Speaker 10 (01:05:13):
Big because that's what we've done in the past two
or three years. So uh, it's just a joy coaching them.
Speaker 22 (01:05:19):
Like I said, they don't quit, they don't complain, They
don't write and uh, they're growing up, and you know that's.
Speaker 10 (01:05:26):
Going to bowld our future when we get some more
players in. You know, we're committed to do that next year.
Speaker 22 (01:05:30):
And they have back on track and they have committee
had Oh yeah, we're you know, with the Choose Act
and things like that that we feel like that we
can you know, get some more kids in that can
help us out.
Speaker 10 (01:05:41):
And we don't need tread athletes.
Speaker 22 (01:05:43):
You know, the opposing coaches will come to us after things.
Speaker 10 (01:05:45):
The coach, you don't need it. Two or three more
average players and you'll be really good. You know, you
just got to rest the guys. You get a little bit.
Speaker 14 (01:05:52):
I'll tell you this coast of central players with eighteen
and a living man and they pretty sporty, pretty sporty.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
So you know that guy's the coach to tell you that. Yeah,
I mean they be to six eighteen this week. Now.
Speaker 14 (01:06:04):
We talked about apples and watermelons. Okay, yeah, but it
can you can. Players came out. You know, athletes can
make a difference.
Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
So I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. All right, you just shorthanded.
Speaker 22 (01:06:14):
We want to talk about our big event going on
here at spring would too you want to bring that up.
Speaker 10 (01:06:18):
I know I couldn't talk about it last week.
Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
You wanted to Teasus, We wanted to.
Speaker 22 (01:06:21):
We've won so far with a T mobile contest thirty
thousand dollars and that's going to go towards improving our facilities,
our weight room, you know, things around campus that will
help us get some more athletes in.
Speaker 10 (01:06:34):
And we're competing.
Speaker 22 (01:06:36):
We're one of twenty five schools in the nation that
are competing for a million dollars stadium renovation. And we'll
have a consult that and come in and you know,
advis us how to spend.
Speaker 10 (01:06:49):
That money based you know, whether it be on turf,
whether it be on led lodges. We need to track
you know, things such as that and just improvements.
Speaker 22 (01:06:57):
And we really feel like if we can get that,
it will be a great recruiting tool to get kids
in and just want them to come, you know, to
be a part of something like that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
So that's a mean on top of the thirty. Right, now,
you got the third, we already got the third off,
Well we.
Speaker 10 (01:07:10):
Ain't got it yet?
Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Well get yeah, all right, so what do we need
to do? Coach?
Speaker 22 (01:07:14):
You can go to our school web page you can
go to my personal Facebook, Instagram all that, and there's
tags on there.
Speaker 10 (01:07:21):
You know, a lot of schools that are doing well
in this contest right now.
Speaker 22 (01:07:24):
They're getting some cameo appearances from athletes in their states
and stuff like that. So we're reaching out to some
of people like that that can help with me with
a big following just to get votes.
Speaker 10 (01:07:35):
So it's votes, votes, votes.
Speaker 22 (01:07:37):
You know, to help us do this, and then we
can't do it again. So we hope to help another
Alabama school next.
Speaker 10 (01:07:43):
Year do the same thing.
Speaker 22 (01:07:44):
You often every week you can I'm voting with an
L L email and it's real simple.
Speaker 10 (01:07:51):
You just click on it.
Speaker 22 (01:07:52):
As for email, I'm not a computer. Boom about ten
fifteen seconds to.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Help us, right with school, give me the school page,
you know it would just be school.
Speaker 22 (01:08:01):
Yeah, just spring with school, all right, And you can
see a sharing and and and we've got some of
this the T Mobile that means right it is T
Mobile through through their you know advertisement. And like I said,
we're the only school in Alabama with only there's no
school in Georgia. There's no school in Mississippi that's left
in this contest.
Speaker 10 (01:08:20):
So we can get the southeast pulling force. You know,
that'd be huge for our loans.
Speaker 22 (01:08:23):
So there's no where's the closest school to closest school
is in Louisiana.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Oh my god.
Speaker 10 (01:08:28):
The school there's winning right now is a school in Arkansas.
Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
So you don't have any Alabama George nowhere nowhere around
we need to.
Speaker 22 (01:08:35):
I think I think we got Lane Kiffin maybe gonna
make it.
Speaker 10 (01:08:39):
Following. Yeah, yeah, we're trying to get.
Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
If you could get some close behind connections over at Auburn.
Speaker 10 (01:08:46):
Yeah, that's we're working for people.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
I don't know who to do it. I'm just saying
that would be.
Speaker 10 (01:08:50):
Yeah, a bit big for you. It's big for us.
Speaker 22 (01:08:53):
So we're excited what we are so for it's been
great just pulling us together. We're working as a team,
you know, getting out there hustling it, and they give
us challenges to do each week that that kind of
draw the school together.
Speaker 10 (01:09:05):
So it's been good for us all the way around.
Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
All right, before we go making East, tell us about
making eas this week.
Speaker 10 (01:09:10):
This week you speak jumping ahead and look.
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Just so you know, look good. I got circles. I
don't know why I went to make it easy, but North.
Speaker 10 (01:09:18):
River Christian big homecoming. They're not very good. They won
very one game.
Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
You know, I try to.
Speaker 10 (01:09:26):
Know you are struggling.
Speaker 22 (01:09:27):
They're very young, and they're like us. I don't have
a lot of players, and I think they've won one game.
And we go out and do what we're supposed to.
Wind again, stay healthy. We're gonna win home coming.
Speaker 10 (01:09:36):
Before that'll get us at three and three and maybe
we can.
Speaker 2 (01:09:39):
Finish get you five hundred. Yeah yeah, all right, good
to see coach Ai. Yeah, I'll appreciate you coming every week.
That's Joey Birch Springwood Wildcats.
Speaker 14 (01:09:50):
They play at home on homecoming North River Christian. We'll
take a break, we'll come back with more coaches from
our Coaches Show.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
All right, welcome back. You're listening to the high School
Coaching Show. We're coming to you live from most Original Barbecue.
And of course our sponsors are the Orthopedic, Clinting Frederi,
Dean Funeral Home and Gory's Frenders Express. They're not all
of them, Hart bro I had I had to. I
don't want to make a mistake.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
I'll trying to give you a cheek o.
Speaker 1 (01:10:18):
Yeah yeah, I up. Nat Mussell County coached Dylan Griggs
is up. Last week big win against By the way,
this is your fifth season, yep, we're talking about you
this morning, where y'all yeah, all good. Yeah, we had
we had the old the older coaches, coach Joe Wilson
and coach Barfield. Did not make it though, Barfield, but
we were talking about you know programs, you know, coaches
(01:10:40):
coming in and let them build something, and you know
you gotta right now you're looking at what sick five
or six, six and six and six, And last week
you beat A Valley forty four to thirty four. You'll
talk about that one briefly, and we'll talk about this
region game you got coming up.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
You know, it was it was. It was a four
quarter game like I thought it was gonna be.
Speaker 21 (01:11:04):
You know, we went in there and had some special
team blunders in the in the first half. We we
jumped up on them quick and then got the ball
back and went to field a punt and fumbled it
at the ten yard line. So then they got up
seven to six, and then it just you know, we
had we hadn't had a turnover since like game one
this year, and then all of a sudden, we just
had we had three the other night, but the defense
(01:11:25):
in some bad situations. But you know, really for me,
and this is what I said to somebody the other day.
First off, like Valley is a really good football team.
Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
Like I think that is an eight and two.
Speaker 21 (01:11:34):
At worst seven and three team, depending on how that
Elmore County game goes. But that's a really good football team.
That quarterback over there is as good as any quarterback.
I mean I have ever seen. The receivers are electric,
the running backs back for them. He's really good. But
it was a rivalry game and it was played like
as such, and you know how it is. Everybody plays
a little extra special and you could tell, I mean,
they threw the kitchen sink at us. But the thing
(01:11:55):
that I was really happy. Now, first off, let me
say our running back, our sophomore running back ran for
a one hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
And thirty five yards and four touchdowns in.
Speaker 21 (01:12:01):
A game on Friday. You know, just kudos to him,
Bricon through for three hundred yards.
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
He's tough. Yeah know, he's so tough. He did a
great job.
Speaker 21 (01:12:11):
Him and out Burnette had to play a scramble play
at the end that really kind of stealed the deal
for us. But I mean it was just a hard, no,
hard nose, four quarter physical football game. And you know,
three years ago, I don't think we would have came
out of there with a victory, you know. And the
thing that that I'll say is, you know when you're
talking about having three four turnovers in a game and
you're still one in by ten, and I mean that
(01:12:33):
that's that's what you call overcoming adversity and not feeling defeated,
you know, not not letting the ups and downs at
the game dictate your energy. And so you know, we
went in there tied fourteen to fourteen at halftime, and
you know, it's a football game, and you know that's
what we're here for. And we want them to be
battle tested. We want them to have some adversary. We
(01:12:53):
want to see how they respond.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
And we got.
Speaker 21 (01:12:55):
We got everything we asked for them more on Friday night.
I mean, they were a good football team. Mak my
as I'm calling it right now, I think that is
a second round team and they're going.
Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
Eight and to Bealley, Yeah, yeah, I think you're right.
We got I don't I don't. I wouldn't argue we
Santo Fillmore Friday night coach Region game.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
Undefeated and they're underfeeding in the region.
Speaker 21 (01:13:14):
Best running back we've seen all your really, Yeah, they're
underfeitd in the region too.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
No best run back.
Speaker 21 (01:13:22):
He's averaging two hundred yards a game Russian as a junior.
He's actually leading six A in rushing right now, and
so you know we're gonna have to stop him to
get out of there. I mean, they're physical, they're a
good football team. They're they're four and one for a reason.
They got, you know, the the second best defense in
the region right now for a reason. You know, they're
senior loaded on defense. And you know, I'll say it,
(01:13:44):
like I said last week, I'm so glad they're coming
to Seal Alabama.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Yeah, it makes a difference that the end does.
Speaker 21 (01:13:50):
So you know, when you go down to Millbrook, it
is not easy, but it is equally not easy playing
in Seal Alabama.
Speaker 14 (01:13:56):
Yeah, exactly, right over in fifty seven Country's right about that,
all right?
Speaker 2 (01:13:59):
What you gotta do to win the game?
Speaker 16 (01:14:00):
Keys, was a game?
Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
Scoring more points?
Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
Well, score more, stopped the running back?
Speaker 21 (01:14:06):
Well, you know for us, Yeah, no, let him just
have his and just keeping box well it's gonna have
to be Ben don't break.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. And you know, I mean
the good thing is it.
Speaker 21 (01:14:14):
Is like last week where they were more pass happy
and and you know, we're more having to set our
defense up for the pass and and you know where
now we're just kind of really focused more on the run.
If we could stop him in the in the quarterback
he rushes really well as well.
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
You know, I mean, we should be all right.
Speaker 21 (01:14:31):
But the key is can we stop the running back
and the quarterback and then equally, you know, can we respond.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
I wouldn't be shot.
Speaker 21 (01:14:37):
I think last year our game was like forty nine
to the twenty six or something like that, and you
know we didn't win it eight. Yeah, I knew it
was something like that. And I mean they're a good
football team. I mean, this game is gonna do. Whoever
wins this game is for sure either the first and
second seed in this region.
Speaker 14 (01:14:54):
Yeah yeah, So Swist come out, and then you've got
a good open week next next week.
Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
So I'm so grateful for yours.
Speaker 21 (01:15:01):
So you got you got, you got it. Had a
good week. We did have a good week. This morning
was really exceptional. This afternoon, I felt like it was
a little average, went in a bad day, just wasn't
a great day.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
But this morning I thought was absolutely just you go
morning in early, Yeah, do you both all that? How
do you do it? Monday? So our our typical week
is Monday.
Speaker 21 (01:15:22):
We'll come in and we'll watch the game Monday morning.
Monday afternoon, we'll go out and have a two hour practice,
then go to waits uh and then go to film.
On Tuesdays, we practice Tuesday morning for an hour, then
come back. We'll go out for another afternoon practice, workout,
watch film, and then on Wednesdays we'll go out in
the morning for an hour practice, come in and then
go out in the afternoon for an hour and thirty
(01:15:43):
minute practice.
Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
We're trying to get it. And then Thursday Thursdays just
play the game in the morning.
Speaker 21 (01:15:49):
Our special teams practice and I send them home because
I like to eat wings.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
On Thursday and watch Big Brothers. So you know, I
at least send them home on Thursdays.
Speaker 21 (01:15:57):
Now I do not bring them in on Sundays, which
is oh, all right.
Speaker 14 (01:16:00):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
I was like, wow, I didn't ask you about Sunday. Yeah, No,
we don't bring up because if we have kids who
live I like that. Yeah, I'm not a coach, but
Sunday can be off.
Speaker 16 (01:16:11):
It's that's just Fridays.
Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
You play the wind the game.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Now Friday, we played the winning game, mister Lord's Day.
I just now Sundays the coaches come in.
Speaker 10 (01:16:18):
But I know that I ain't gonna lie to you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
Mark.
Speaker 21 (01:16:20):
If I was probably like at a at a program
where they were with men, yeah, we probably would come
in because I like the working out on Sunday and
not working out on Wednesday.
Speaker 6 (01:16:30):
But I get it.
Speaker 21 (01:16:30):
I'm not We've got kids who live in Pitts. You
forty five minutes, Yeah, time for that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
I get it. You know what you're doing being smart? Coach,
you're doing being smart?
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
What time in the mornings, what time.
Speaker 21 (01:16:40):
We're on the we're on the field by seven thirty
years times and that's yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
I'm assuming some of them ride the bus on end
of school.
Speaker 21 (01:16:47):
Yeah, so we'll we'll literally so bell rings at eight
twenty five. We team meet at eight twenty five, we
do roll. I usually talk for two or three minutes
and then they literally have to run straight out to
the f that's seven twenty five ES Central.
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
Yeah yeah, it makes it.
Speaker 14 (01:17:00):
Yeah yeah, Coach Griggs, thank you, miss good to see you.
Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
Keep it up, keep it going. Good luck for tonight.
Speaker 14 (01:17:05):
Go Worrior, stan opellmore fixing me seven and as they
take on stan Ho Russell County. I should say we'll
be back St Anne Pattelli when we come back.
Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
With Mose Barbecue. High school coaches are rolling right along
on a gorgeous Wednesday night in East Alabama.
Speaker 14 (01:17:27):
Jeff Sasher's right there, Jason Lee Van Riggs left the buildings.
Coach Minty Grider is the head coach of Saint Anne Pattelli.
I'm Dan, Mark Mitchell. We're fixing to talk Saint Anne
Pacelli football.
Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
How you doing, coach?
Speaker 10 (01:17:38):
I'm doing good.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Mark. It's nice to get a little cooler weather this week,
this week, and it feels good, don't it?
Speaker 6 (01:17:44):
It does?
Speaker 9 (01:17:45):
It?
Speaker 10 (01:17:45):
Does?
Speaker 9 (01:17:45):
I like it?
Speaker 6 (01:17:46):
I like it a bit, A nice break from that heat.
Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
Yep, all right, you had a tough week forty two
to twenty four, lost week. We keep chugging along. Man
Dropster two and four. Tell me about that they were
they were.
Speaker 25 (01:17:58):
You know, film doesn't always give you a clear picture
of how big somebody is.
Speaker 6 (01:18:02):
They had a They weren't.
Speaker 25 (01:18:03):
Huge, but they had a big football team and they
were physical, and you know, I told you last week
it was old school I football. They ran the io
and all that right at you, and they huddled up,
and you know, we had we had We did okay
up front. Really, we just had some misfits. And when
you do that against the isolation play and the linebacker
doesn't turn it the right way and the other linebacker
(01:18:26):
doesn't fit right, then those plays can pop big on you.
And that's kind of what happened. And we had turnover
problems again. We threw three interceptions and they had a fumble.
Two of the interceptions were on first downs inside the twenty,
and that's killer. And you know, when you're playing a
really good team on the road, you just can't do those.
(01:18:47):
I mean, we took the opening drive and we're just
bam bam bam right down the field and quarterback just
selled a ball on a play that we run probably seven,
eight ten times a game. It's a little quick passing
concept that we run, and he overthrew a kid and
it just went right to their kids' hands and he
ran it back down inside our chaining. You know, we're
(01:19:08):
on about the fifteen yard line going in, you know,
and then you play on the other Yeah, you know,
but I mean it just one of those deals. And uh,
you know, we stayed in striking distance for most of
the game, and uh, you know, and and they scored
one late to make it twenty one point difference, but uh, you.
Speaker 6 (01:19:26):
Know, we and we had our chances to cut it
to seven. We just you know, it was it was
a tough night.
Speaker 25 (01:19:31):
Our offense wasn't as effective as it had been the
week before.
Speaker 6 (01:19:35):
A lot of it had to do with them, but
you know, we we we ended up.
Speaker 25 (01:19:39):
With almost three hundred yards anyway, but it just we
couldn't We couldn't stop them when we needed to.
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
And those four turnovers were just deadly, man, just deadly.
Speaker 6 (01:19:48):
We with the other things, we.
Speaker 25 (01:19:51):
Had a plan for a surprise on side kick, uh
and it was there, but we didn't get it. So
we gave them bough at midfield there. We had a
great play for a fake punt and it was wide
open and my quarterback is my punter, and he overthrows
the guy and we're on about our thirty five. I mean,
it's a I mean, we're gonna ma may score, but
it's one of them. And I told him all week,
(01:20:14):
whatever you do, don't overthrow it. I don't overthrow it, right,
and uh but you know, I mean their kids, and
he got excited saw how open he was, and so
I mean that those kind of gave him a short
field a couple of times there, and then we had
to turnovers, and uh, you know that's that's a recipe
for getting beat. And uh, we haven't found a way
to overcome adversity. And I talked about that last week.
(01:20:35):
When it starts going bad, you know, just having that
grit and that determination to fight through it. Uh, we
kind of go haywires. Not that we quit playing hard
or anything like that, but we don't play well. That's
what I told him after the game. You know, we
we play hard, our kids play hard, but that ain't
good enough. You gotta play well. You know against good teams,
(01:20:57):
they're playing hard too, so you gotta play you gotta
play good good, you know. And uh that's what we're
not doing in tight you know, when we get behind
and the games on the line, I think we just
were tense up and we're just not overcoming.
Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
That that's seeing in that situation. Well, I'm not knowing
how to handle.
Speaker 6 (01:21:13):
Not knowing how to handle it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
Man.
Speaker 25 (01:21:15):
We're still still growing pains for us offensively, we're really
on both sides because we're totally changed the schemes. Uh,
you know, they were throwing it five or six times
a game and we're throwing it fifteen or twenty and
you know, we're just we're just not there yet.
Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
But it's it's a process.
Speaker 25 (01:21:31):
And uh, you know, we've got good players, I've got
a great coaching staff, and I've got full confidence we're
gonna turn it around.
Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
Man.
Speaker 25 (01:21:37):
You know, we've played and it's not like we're getting
beat by some people that aren't any good. You know,
none of them have more than two losses on their schedule,
on their record right now, most of them have one loss,
and so you know, it's just, you know, we just
have this tough schedule and then when you play in that.
Speaker 6 (01:21:54):
There's no room for air.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
You know. Calvary Christian this week.
Speaker 25 (01:21:57):
Yep, and they're coming in five and one, all cited
and they got beat Yep. They're coming to us. They
got beat by Brookstone last week. But this will be
a totally different deal. They like to throw it. I
think in the game last week they ran it eleven times.
So you know, it's a whole different, whole different concept.
So gotta change. Yeah, gotta change change the plan a
(01:22:19):
little bit defensively and then offensively.
Speaker 4 (01:22:21):
I really feel good about our plan.
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
I mean we have we have.
Speaker 25 (01:22:25):
We've got a really good offensive line, and we can
run the football, and I think that's gonna be something
We're gonna have to be better. We're gonna have to
do that a little bit more than we've been and
not rely on on trying to open it up because
we've got some really good receivers. Uh, we're just not
there yet with the timing in the passing game and
understanding the concepts and those kind of things to to
be able to throw it twenty times a game. We're
(01:22:46):
gonna to scale that back and really lean on our
run game. And so you know, we'll see I've got
to I think we're gonna be okay Friday, we'll see.
It's a big one rivalry game, reagion game, all that stuff.
And they're excited, as you know, one of those teams
that hadn't been very good and they they're having a
great year and they're excited over there, and you know
they're I'm sure they think they're gonna come in and
(01:23:08):
hand it to us, so we gotta be ready.
Speaker 14 (01:23:10):
Yeah, I feel like that makes a lot of sense.
Your team all aboard everybody.
Speaker 25 (01:23:15):
Yeah, we're in good shape health wise. We didn't lose
anybody else and uh, you know, everybody's gonna be ready.
Speaker 2 (01:23:21):
To go Friday. Okay. Coach always good to seeing.
Speaker 4 (01:23:23):

Devils and then the house open last week?
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
How you doing, coach? I'm pretty good, baby, I'm pretty
good with good two and one.
Speaker 14 (01:25:06):
This team has only played three football games in five weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:25:10):
We finishing to strap it up for six straight, five straight.
Speaker 16 (01:25:13):
Yeah, hopefully we get the six, but five straight.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
Yeah, hopefully have more than six.
Speaker 14 (01:25:17):
All right, Verbena this Friday night in Notsuckle, tell me
about Babena.
Speaker 20 (01:25:22):
Being a, tough hard nose. Squad like the line up
In jumbo sets run right at.
Speaker 2 (01:25:28):
You they're not hiding. It they just line up two
tights and go two, tights three up backs and the
quarterback and let's, go wow big under.
Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
Center, no, sir no have the?
Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
Shotguns? Shotgun? Baby how about? That did they hung?
Speaker 20 (01:25:43):
Up?
Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
No, okay they just slow and gom just slow and.
Go their offense is their. Defense, ah they keep that clock. Running,
yeah that's what they.
Speaker 20 (01:25:51):
Do coach goldstward on fourth down and he plays the
percentage as.
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Well he doesn't kick deep. Donkey, no he on side
it every? Time really like how far five? TEN i
mean not ten to? Fifteen or he's trying to get
it every? Time, yeah if you played the, yeah try
to get. It there's one school that's done that a.
Speaker 9 (01:26:12):
Bunch.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
Yeah is he having good success with it? Now he's
not having success with it this.
Speaker 20 (01:26:16):
Year BUT i hope it don't try and get it against.
IT i, HOPE i hope it don't turn. Over he's
been preparing for it every. Day do they pooch it,
like hit, it bounce?
Speaker 6 (01:26:24):
It how do they do it on?
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
Side?
Speaker 2 (01:26:27):
KNOW i, mean but do they? Kick do they pooch
it on? Side do they roll? It squip? It it's
the old FASHIONED i got you chicken? Out, yeah, yeah kick,
it make it bounce up in. There, wow that's. Hard
that's really hard to prepare for.
Speaker 20 (01:26:40):
Practice, well we've been on doing hands team and doing
all these things since since, camp so it's nothing new to.
Us we just really get a chance to do it
live live this, time all right on.
Speaker 1 (01:26:51):
Side kicks every time he doesn't, punt he's going for fourth.
Speaker 2 (01:26:53):
Time, Date, yeah he, says he goes for. It he's
playing one time in four? Games good. Gracious how long
was it fourth on hu? Something, yeah it was like
fourth and fourth and.
Speaker 20 (01:27:02):
Sixteen so the offense doesn't have, you, uh the offense
as he, runs he doesn't, uh it has you in
situations where you can go for it on fourth.
Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
Down so he's probably probably fourth and, shure he's always
third and fourth and.
Speaker 1 (01:27:17):
Short how many times he throw a game he throws?
Speaker 20 (01:27:20):
It he probably might might on a good, day probably
probably six seven if you if you stop the. Run
if you stop the, run he's gonna try and do
some spread, things which they're not really good.
Speaker 2 (01:27:33):
At his his ammo is to run it right at.
Speaker 14 (01:27:36):
Just there's there's a lot of People i'm looking at
and looked up there looking it up now as as
people stopped him in the.
Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
Past, uh he's lost. One he lost the BILLING i
thought is pretty.
Speaker 20 (01:27:45):
Good though he lost The billingsley played a tough now
bider Versus keith thirty twenty eight Beat, gailesville which was a,
great pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
Team they won lastly fourteen to, six fourteen to. Six so.
Speaker 14 (01:28:00):
But Holy, Spirit, Calahun, keith Uh Elwood christian And galesville
lost the Billings ly bout to that's a pretty good football.
Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
Team coach got hands for.
Speaker 1 (01:28:10):
Yes, yes you. Do Now they Hadn't they hadn't played
their county rival yet.
Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
Though they hadn't played In. Maplesville they hadn't played none
of those.
Speaker 14 (01:28:19):
Guys are you mm hmm about? That they ain't played
The Blue? Devils that's right here you, go get that.
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
Smile tell me about your. Team in practice this, week
coach has been high.
Speaker 20 (01:28:28):
Energetic it's homecoming week FOR us, baby so my first.
One the atmosphere is definitely. There just got to keep
eye emotions. Intact so it's it's one of those things
where it's homecoming, week so we have to get over the,
distractions you, know being at a small school and everybody's
(01:28:51):
doing something in. Homecoming everybody's, Involved so we have to
be able to focus our attention on the task at.
Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Hand it's.
Speaker 20 (01:28:57):
Homecoming we know what's going, on but the center of
attention is the football. Game and you can't go out
there and let.
Speaker 14 (01:29:03):
Your your kids have got to be ready to play
football because they've been. Off they've only played three games
in six.
Speaker 20 (01:29:07):
Weeks, coach our practice is so. INTENSE i just bought
a whistle and uh go to the. Sideline we go off.
Steam we hit the weight room pretty. Hard but it's
always good to get in front of the.
Speaker 2 (01:29:18):
Stranger, yeah, yeah here you. Go you got.
