(00:28):
afternoon, and welcome this good Coachesshow ye at Moe's Barbecue, Bent Creek
in Auburn on a beautiful Wednesday evening. Our show is presented to you by
our good friends at the Orthopeda Clinic, Dean mort Mitchell, Jeff Sasher,
Jason Lee Van Riggs and a bunchof coaches on the Verandah on a beautiful
(00:49):
evening. Ready for another edition.Jeff, there are three regulars good Eton,
Jeff, there are three regular seasonweeks left in the regular season.
Yeah, I mean regular season games. This week's seven, right, Some
have two and some have three.Yeah, and some have more because the
playoffs, and some don't. Yeah. Well, we talked about earlier in
the week. Some people have havethree games left and fourteen or more is
(01:15):
going to have I mean eight left. That's right. Our first coach is
Southern Preparatory coach Rolling Bail. Howyou do it, sir coach, Good
evening. Good to see you andyour your staff that you have with us
as normal. Thanks four and fiveoverall two and two in the region,
lost us Ezekiel seventy four thirty eight, tied for fourth in the region.
(01:38):
You play Cornerstone four four two tofour and two in the region. Which
way you want to go A littlebit about last week and then forward?
Sure, So you know we lefthere last Wednesday, we were in good
spirits. I thought we had ashot against Ezekiel. Thursday morning found out
we lost one of our top receiversfor the season. So I think the
(02:00):
guys were kind of reeling a littlebit. Friday night. We got down
twenty eight to nothing in the firstquarter. In between quarters kind of woke
them up a little bit, andthen you know, midway through the third
we fought back it's forty to thirtytwo, and then gave up, you
know, one more touchdown right thereto open back up a two touchdown leading.
(02:22):
The guys just kind of said Iand just not getting it, and
they just didn't have any fight lefton them. So you know, we
made made too many mistakes and uh, not one to be proud of.
Well, score with thirty eight points, gave up a lot, not one
(02:43):
to be proud of. Now whereare you from here? You got this
week's game at corner at Cornerstone inRainsville? Is that right? Yes?
Sir? All right? Now whatdoes this mean as far as playoffs?
Are you here? Fourth? Rightnow? Correct? What? No?
No? Should well should be tiefor third? Right now? Okay?
(03:04):
I think there's only one one waythat we end up below third, and
that's if tomorrow night, If nottomorrow night, Friday night, if Springwood
gets beat by North River, andthat would create a three way tie for
second, because it would because uhwhat ezeko is not not any corner and
(03:27):
they they got first locked up,this is your and then you know spring
would beat us, we beat NorthRiver. If North River beat spring Wood,
it creates a three way tie forsecond. And we're talking North River
out of Tesscaloosa, right, correct. I really don't think North River can
be I don't know that. That'swhy I didn't want to say that,
but yeah, I don't I don'tthink so so right, I mean,
I believe Springwood is plenty better thanNorth River. And you know, Coak
(03:53):
Perch and I we talked about ittoday and I feel like he's he's got
it. What he's worried about isit's homecome week. He's got boys playing
volleyball in some kind of big gametoday, and he's worried about ankles.
I can understand that. But sothis, this this Cornerstone game in Rainsville,
(04:14):
which is near Huntsville. It meansnothing for the playoffs. It's just
it's an out of region game, out of at a league game, doesn't
even matter. But you know thatthey run an ape man a version of
the wing tea, and they lookpretty good at it. They've I think
we're a little bit better than theyare, just based on common opponents and
(04:39):
things like that. I think we'rea little bit better. But it's gonna
be at their place, three hourtrip for us, so you know,
we'll see. So the way,how many how many tings does everybody make
the playoffs? Everybody said something aboutgoing to Florida instead at one time,
right right, and something, youknow, playing in that tournament, I
(05:00):
think we kind of had to doa little better to get invited. You
know, if we win these lasttwo games, finish up six and five,
then I can see that maybe theyinvite us for the Division two tournament,
you know, I kind of hopeso. But at the same time,
if we go, it would haveto be like playing a playoff game
(05:21):
on Thursday, travel on Friday, play on Saturday, rest on Sunday,
play on Monday, drive back onTuesday, rest up on Wednesday, play
the championship game on Thursday. Andthat's that's a lot to ask. But
you know, I think we cando it, because you know, we
condition our kids well enough and Ithink we could handle it. But you
(05:47):
know, what do you want todo? Do we want to do that?
Every how many games in the tournament? How many games in two days?
It'd be two games in the nationaltournament down there on you know,
on Saturday, and then on Monday. So I mean two games each day,
no, no, no, toototal to total and then drive back.
(06:08):
But it might be seven days, yeah, eight days, yeah,
because he drives every other day, have the day off. Yeah, that's
a lot of games, coach,it is. But we went down there
before and we played We played threegames in three days, and that third
day we we won championship. Allright, Well when you make that decision,
(06:30):
I'll let you you'll let us know, right, Well, we gotta
be invited first. Okay, wellyou play, oh simitation, Yeah,
Cornerstone, Yeah it is coach,Thank you, Good see y'all. All
right, good luck this week.Okay, on the trip you're at listening
to the High School Coaches Show atMose Barbecue, presented to you by the
Orthopede Clintic a break and come backwith Valley High School. Welcome back to
(07:04):
the High School Coaches Show live forMoe's Original Barbecue. We're here every Wednesday
night with all the area coaches thatcan make it. It's brought to you
by the North Sweda Clinic, mosOriginal Barbecue, Fox Sports, The Game
nine, ten, thirteen, ten, and Kicker FM. In ninety seven
(07:24):
point seven, Lee County's Best CountryCoach. You never know what's gonna go
on here. There you go,is that right? That's right, Adam
Hunter. I know that Dalley Ramsare in the house. Good to see
you, coach, and see youguys. Yeah yeah, tell me what
you have to eat. Smoke wings, smoake wings. You're a wing guard,
that's right, there are things inthe valley. It's good things.
(07:45):
Good need a big win this way, you do. Your football team's been
playing good, coach, they have, they have. You had a forty
eight to fourteen win and you're fiveand two, three and two in the
region. Talk a little bit aboutthat. And then Elmore County. Oh
yeah, you know, our kidsplaying pretty good right now. You know,
(08:05):
we had a good win last week. You know, again it's a
talentcy team that's a little down rightnow. But you know, our kids
came out first half, real theyou know, dominating all phases of the
game, and that's really what wewas talking about doing this week last week
of course, but you know, proud of the guys, proud of the
work they put in. You know, ever since coming back from that Clay
(08:26):
Central loss, uh and the waywe lost, you know, just being
dominated, they've really stepped up,stepped up in practice, you know,
in all phases and even you knowwe've talked about it before, but our
our scout teams they picked it up. So you know, everybody's buying into
what we're doing. We're getting alittle bit better each week, and as
long as we continue that trend,we're gonna be okay, all right,
(08:48):
Elmore County, all right, rightnow Central play is four and oh in
the region Valley Elmore County three. And when you win this game, second
in the home seat, right, that's right, this is for us.
It's big. It's big. Yeah, you know you want to win this
one be at home. If you'rea third said, you're gonna be traveling
to Mobile. So it's it's abig one. You know, we got
(09:09):
to go down to Elmore County andplay. Uh. And and they're a
really good football team. He Kyledoes a good job with his group.
You know, they're they're really explosiveon offense. They're big upfront. So
you know, we're gonna have toplay really good defensively and we're gonna have
to We're gonna have to capitalize whenwe have the ball offensively. Only lost
one game, coach, there's alot of folks, everybody they play loose.
(09:30):
Yeah. I talked to Kyle todayand uh we talked about how Clay
Central You know that they're they're classy. They you know, they feed everybody
after they whoop him. So youknow it's it's really good. Uh.
But no, we've we've got areally big game. Kyle's got his his
his kids really you know, reallygood. They're in a position just like
we're in a position the host playoffgames, so they're gonna be fired up
(09:52):
ready to play as well. Youknow he has done a good job there,
coach in a short time. Whatdo what? What is there?
What do they do? They throw? They run it. You know that
they're gonna run it. They doa lot of different formations. They're gonna
try to counter and and do thenormal stuff everybody's doing now ge power and
stuff. And then they'll throw itsome and they'll mix up who they put
back there running back and quarterback,so they keep you on your toes.
(10:16):
They try to hard nose football rightoff the bat. So you know,
we got to play really good upfront. That's gonna be the key on both
sides of the ball. What ispower? Oh, they put a guard
a lot. I was gonna say, I think I had another I did
the same thing, Jeff, andsomebody said pull instead of a tackle.
Right, yeah, I'm gonna saythis. And I know we talked about
a lot of teams. I knowyou've had some some kids do some great
(10:37):
things for you. I know camdo. He's played well. You know,
me name some kids that we canget out there that's been playing good
for you. You know. HezekiaAvery is a kid that steps you know,
stands out again. Hezekayah Avery likethat. He's a tenth grader.
Uh, that's just now starting insidelinebacker this year. Uh. He has
been a tremendous asset to our defense. He really stepped into where we had
(10:58):
some kids. Had played inside linebackerfor a while and graduated last year.
So he's done a really good jobdefensively. Antoine Greenwood, he's a he's
a lineman that's going both ways.He plays right tackle for US, but
he also goes and plays defensive endfor US. He's really played good.
You know, we've we've had somekids step up. Jax Miller at center
(11:20):
on offense, he's a ninth grader, has done a really good job as
a ninth grader. Really impressed withthem, those guys. You know,
with the addition of Brandon Thomas,he's been outside receiver. He's done a
really good job. And you knowhe's a senior this year. He played
for US a while back and thencame back out of senior year. He's
been able to stretch the fields, got some good touches, got some you
know, we was talking about howevery time the balls hit his hands in
(11:41):
the game, he's called it,so you know that's that's huge. And
then I running back Tyland Carroll Thailandhas done an exceptional well well job,
he's he's turning in. I'm closingin on a thousand yards season on one.
So he's over nine forty I thinkright now. So that's that's good
stuff. He's a he's eleventh grader. So we have him for one more
(12:03):
year. Have you had two Chamberlinson the one kicks right well, one
call a tochdown pass. Last,no one calls the phone. One recovered.
That's right now. What one's aspecial team right well? One punt?
They both start on defense and puntsand plays outside linebacker. And then
Corter Lewis he's the inside linebacker.He's a he's a ninth grader, played
(12:24):
inside linebacker. He's actually one thatI need to mention to that's done an
interceptional job starting an inside linebacker. There you go. So the youngest is
the ninth grader and the oldest isa senior who caught the touchdown pass.
J that's the that's the older Yeah, okay, yeah, plays So the
younger one calls the phone one recovered. How about that? Yeah, there
(12:46):
you go, there you go.That has been a good three days,
I guess since we got to dayunder you. That's right, Yeah,
it was good three days we gotafter all. Right, coach, you
need a big crowd. I knowwe'll carry the game on the ball one
hundred point nine as we will allyour playoff game. But you need a
big crowd, right, we do. We need to win this week.
The coach is good to see you, man, Rams. That's Adam Lundter.
He's got the rounds playing good football, and hopefully they continue over to
(13:09):
Elmore County Friday night, High SchoolCoach. The show continues. We're gonna
have polka coming your way and welcomeback to Mo's bar b Q ninety seven

(15:03):
doing the coaching show a long timeand who's gotten us the most up?
L C. Cole brought us somethingevery year. That's three coach brought us.
Newton brought us about that. Didyou know he brought us something?
He did you and he go,I've got to tell him we got I
got it. Mind. Yeah,Jeff took his own minds in the studio
and we got a of course,I got your your black you gave me
(15:24):
last year. Thank We're in there, so thank you coach. Thanks y'all
do yeah, all right, let'stalk a little about your kids, coach,
man. Things are things are reallygoing good for your football team.
Talk about them for a little bit, if you will. Offensive Wise,
we've been we've been led by ourgame by Jeremiah Darlington and Anthony. They've
(15:45):
been doing a great job for us. I also want to mention our offensive
line, which is at left tacklesamaj Card. So they pulled it over
a little bit with this outside it'snot right here. Left guard, left
guard, we have left guard. We have Ran Norman at center, we
have your Dare inside of White. At right guard we have Buster Dunnell.
And then at right tackle we haveNor Norman. And that's our whole entire
(16:07):
offense. Linemen doing a great job. You know, our receivers Quentin Cooks
and dz He's been doing a greatjob. You know, the whole offen
has been doing good for his defensivewisemen led by Jamari Payne to Purdue commit.
And also we have a younger youngguy, tenth grader Javon Garrett.
He's been doing a great job.And then the secondary we got Jeremi Jahnson
(16:27):
also plays in the secondary. Andthen it's safety. We have a kid
by Rod Niams and our quarterback pd neims men have him done a great
job of controlling the game for us. So you know, overall has been
a team thing. Do you playdefense, coach, He's the only one
that doesn't play defense, and thatis by my choice. Yeah, did
I hear Whedon weak weak, Ithought. And by the way, speaking
(16:48):
of Whedon, to interrupt this interview, I want to congratulate your athletic director
and Princeville mister Wheedon. He isthe newest member of the Central Border Control.
It's Alabama High School Athletic Associate. And so I want to say congratulations
to mister Whedon and wish him wellserving on that board. Yeah. Yeah,
I told them graduation yesterday. Yes, about the opportunity deserve. Yes,
(17:11):
it will be a wonderful He willdo a wonderful job and will and
he represents you guys well. AndI believe he took to miss Alloway's place.
Who was from David? Yes?Two or three coaches? Two?
There you go, all right,So Primetime TV coach, this is kind
of what you know. You playevery year for a chance to play in
big games. You know. Well, By the way, I forgot to
(17:33):
mention you won last week thirty tothirteen over a Tago bill. We jumped
right into you about your team,So good win on that. I'll let
you come in on that in justa second. But Maplesviille tomorrow night in
Bewley, it's your home game it'llbe on statewide TV. Maples bill lost
the first two games. They've rolledthe dice sense. They've beaten Central Haneyville,
(17:53):
Notasuga, Calhoun, Otago Bill Billingslead. Now they come to Beautile
to play you for your home game. Yes, sir, talk about playing
for the big Maples vild for theregion championship. I told our kids the
other day. The thing is thatyou can ask for as an opportunity.
Once you grant opportunity, got tomake the best of your opportunity. So
now we have an opportunity to playa team like Maplesville, a great team
(18:17):
who lives out tradition. But likeI told our team, our our tradition
is also a focus. You know, Coach Jones and coach Tate left a
very great deal of tradition there. So the thing is is that we're we're
a traditional program also, so wewanna go out and play good football on
offense, defense and special teams, and you know, and just hopefully we
have a good game and we're ableto pull it off such a I know
(18:41):
you want to say it's another game, but coach, this is such a
big Yes. I mean, wegot TV camera, you know, that's
gotta be excited for it is.It's very exciting, you know, for
me, for y'all. I guesswhen once the lights come on tomorrow,
it'd be like, you know, yeah, yeah, I've been trying to
keep the kids. You know, you know, I go I told him,
man, this is an opportunity forme as a coach. You know
(19:02):
what I mean. It is,you know kind of thing is you know,
this opportunity don't don't grants itself everyyear. So I told them they'll
get the best out of me forthis whole weekend tomorrow, you know,
because it's an opportunity, like yousaid, to play on the big stage
and to being be on TV,and you know, to play against a
great team like babys Vin. You'retrying to get your program on that same
level for you know, for reachand success. So you know, it's
(19:23):
just you know, it's a greatopportunity. So you know, we're looking
forward to it. And you know, you go ahead, if you practice
any different coach this game, regulargame. Not really you know, I've
been the same things consistent, youknow, assistant practice. You know what
I'm saying, Like watching film,we don't watch more more film because my
thing is is that the more yousee it, the more to sink in.
You know, you want to seeit several times before it actually happens.
So we spend a lot of timein the film room this this week
(19:45):
right here, more time than wenormally do. And we'll get some more
time in tomorrow. You know we'regonna were gonna stay on them in the
kickoffs all right now, how manydo they do? They platain or they
play a lot both ways, likeyou they platune. You know, everybody
in by the one age, youknow, you're about one of the few
that don't. Yeah, yeah,so you know, it's it's it's it's
it's kind of hard. But thething is is that she gotta play football.
(20:10):
What's spending that big turnround? Theylost the first two they played that
the first Yeah, they were realgood. I knew they were, right.
I just kind of wanted to puther in great opponents and I think
they were three schools meet. Yeahyeah, so one a coach, Yes,
exactly. Ready, Ready, We'reproud of you. Thank you,
knock it out, thank you,uh go poker go Indians. Thanks for
(20:32):
the shirt with TV. Importantly,we need a crowd in Mulim support.
You exactly all got It's a Thursdaynight game, man, the poke away
and there you go. High schoolCoaches, you contems in a moment.
Good luck, yeah, and welcomeback to Most Barbecue. High School Coaches.
(20:53):
Show continues on The Kicker and FoxSports. The Game nine ten thirteen
ten Dean Marn't, Mitchell, JeffSassar, Jason lee Van has left the
building. We continue. We doappreciate Most Barbie because they feed a bunch
of folks every Wednesday night. They'vegot barbecue, They're open seven days a
week. They have a great familyatmosphere. They got an outside, the
(21:15):
inside and a uh, Jeff's sideof the bar over there. And I'm
not gonna go down the braids, coach. We won't mention that. But
anyway, all kinds of family food. They have good grilled cheeses, all
tea and what do you have,Jeff, I had the half chicken,
half chicken? Coach Daniel, wouldyou have? Man, I've gotten where
I eat fried pickles every week nowand I've take some wings. I've done
(21:36):
it for like five or six weekend. I want one next week. You
have all you wanted it really good. Okay, what you have? I
just got a chicken tenor plate?Uh? Who a chicken tender plate?
Okay, I can't go wrong. There a tenderfoot, chicken fingers come in
like a wrap. Yeah, thereyou go. All right, Okay,
Coach Daniel, you heard him.Good evening. How are you, coach
(21:56):
man? I'm great. Great. You gotta be here. Good to see
you too. Introduce your kicker rightthere to your left. Absolutely, Matthew
Rolater. Uh. He's another onethat's been women for the four years I've
been there. He was a kickerin the ninth grade. He started for
us then has done nothing but getbetter every year. And h the hard
work that he has put in ispaid off this year. I mean,
(22:18):
what a weapon. You know,I talk about it all the time.
You know, defense loves kickers thatcan kick the ball ends on and they
start on twenty every time, anduh, you know Roller has done that.
He's uh, I think he's howmany times you kicked off? I
can't remember. I'm not sure.As in the forties. I think I
think he must maybe two, andone of them the foot was in z
On so whatever. But he's he'sdone a great job. He also punts
(22:40):
for us. He's got like athirty eight yard average although we hadn't parted
Harry games. It does a greatjob for us. And then what a
weapon. And then what a whata fine young man it is role age
as I call him. How areyou, bud? We're gonna go ahead
and get that out there. Soyou all right? So you JJ and
who was the pile that have beenwith coach? Also? What's that?
(23:02):
What's that? Four years? What'sthat? What are you thinking like that?
What's that been like? It's beenjust great, honestly, especially like
you know, rely on one coachand know like they'll be there no matter
what. It's really helped the teamgrow especially, Yeah, it wasn't no
change. Flip over. Now let'stalk about your kicking and how you progress
(23:22):
from ninth grade to now. Iknow coach said, I think I can't
remember it too. I think youmight, you know, have one or
two like you said, that hadn'tgone to the end zone. But you've
done a good job of your patsand you kick, So talk about progressing
on you're kicking. How you've gottenthere? Really, I mean, as
far as kicking goes, it's justpractice and constant reps. And the biggest
thing for kickoffs this year is whay. I added probably ten pounds and it
(23:45):
just I guys put the ball alittle bit further. You gained ten pounds
to get the ball in zone.Yes, now you work a lot at
it too. Now because I seeyou kicking all over you say to tell
a little story. I walk mydog at a certain park and he kicks
every day in the summer in onehundred degrees. So I commend you for
that because always tell him coaching winnerswin when nobody's watching it. Absolutely,
(24:07):
me and Cojo were watching, butnobody else was. He was out there
right now. Talk about this year'steam. You won every game at one.
You lost over in Glenwood. Youroll the dice sense, So were
you're thinking Friday going to Fortdale?I mean just one hundredson confidence. I
mean I know our guys like I'lltake him any day against Fortdale. Yeah,
that's about It's about it. I'vewatched you play all four years.
(24:30):
I've watched you get better. Isaw you go to Montgomery last year and
playing a championship game. What doesthat mean to go back? And does
it mean to win it again ifyou can everything, especially knowing who will
probably play. We're working to getthat chance to get back and get a
little revenge from earlier in the season, and it would just mean everything to
be able to end it all onthat note. There you go, coach
(24:52):
Fortdale Tomorrow Friday. Excuse me,Friday. We got some Thursday games.
Fortdale lost the same team you lostto and up beating everybody else. I
don't know, I really there aresome common opponents. But talking about that,
yeah, good football team. Youknow, I talked to you this
morning. I said, what thismorning? Yes, I can't remember.
We had some weird yes, butit's uh, it's probably the probably the
second best offensive line we played. They're they're big, they got a big
(25:15):
tackle. This six five, twoseventy five he's got I think it's the
North Alabama commit. Uh got areally good quarterby yees six five kids big
going up against him, big boy. Yeah, I'll take Rode every day,
but but I got a good Alequarterback and runs around. He's similar
to Dallas Crow at Glenwood. Notas good. I'm not gonna throw that
out there, but he he similarruns around a lot. Got it,
(25:40):
got got you know, pretty gooddefense. But I'll take our guys every
day. But yeah, it's gonnabe a good football game. It's gonna
decide who's uh, who's two andthree in the region. It's a big
game, you know, just mainlybecause it's the next game, but it's
also going to decide to win,uh either two or three and get the
host of playoff games. It's it'sbig for us this week. Yeah,
(26:00):
you get that two spot, thebye and then host the game before right
preparation this week you were on break, you told us that, So how
is you better early practice? Ithink you told us, Oh yeah,
we practiced Monday and Tuesday morning, both at eight o'clock, started to wait,
wait a day o'clock, and thengot on the field, got down
about ten thirty, you know, and let the kids go be kids in
(26:22):
the afternoon, which is what Ilike to do as much as we can
normal practice the day in the afternoonwhen I you know, fed out about
an hour hour and a half. And tomorrow we'll go early in the morning,
five forty five. Just every Thursday, every Thursday, you know before
game. You know, we playon Thursday game. It's a Wednesday morning
but hell, guys, they lovethat. You know, they look sleepy
in the morning, but they stilllove being there. That early ro LEDs
(26:45):
is shaking his head. You likethat, man? Oh I love the
morning practices, do you you, sir? I like that? Get your
day going right, you, sir, and then you have the whole afternoon
off and you sleep a lot better. All right? What time do you
get to practice, Matthew? Usuallyprobably run five and it starts at five,
five forty five. All right,So our show on the March starts
at six. So what time youthink I get to the radio stations?
(27:06):
Yes, legs, it's okay.Yeah, four, No, it ain't
that early. Five thirty. Whattime you think he gets there? Not
sure? Six o one? Allright, I get there before I get
there before the show starts. Jeff, that's what you call putting you out
on front street. I'll tell you, I'll tell you I love but you
(27:26):
did that, all right? Soanyway for big game, you want to
make a final comments here about thegame, Matthew? Before week, I
mean, I think I've said aboutall I can, all right, you
know, I'm just confident, allright? What about what about your team?
As far as everybody ready to go. You all on deck? Good
week, Yes, sir, asfar as I can tell. I mean,
this is one of the best weeksof practices we've had all year,
(27:48):
or even the past couple of years. Really, there you go one more
after this, right, regular Seasseason ATHLETs got Edgewood next week and uh
hopefully sitting out the first round ofplayoffs and hosting the second round. Do
you understand where y'all? What kindof history y'all are creating right now?
Do you understand that? You say, think about that a little bit.
You ain't quite finished it? Allright, it's any sat final chapter,
all right, Rolates, I tellyou it'd be easy, ton' I mean,
(28:11):
Matthew, excuse me, Coach Danielnice to show you all guys.
All right, that's high school fromLESCA Academy. We're gonna take a break
from the Coaches Show, come backwith Lenette Coach Show presented to you by
the or Peter Kenny continues in amorment, and we're back Mo's Barbecue ninety
(28:44):
seven point seven Core fem Fox SportsThe Game nine ten thirteen, ten,
d Mark and Jeff High School CoachesShow Continuous Jason's here manning the ship.
Lynette is in the house, coach, how are you good? Do more?
How much? Sorry? Coach McDonald'sin the house. Good win last
week over the I'm good, thankyou over the fat U forty one to
twelve. Right, yep, yep, talk a little about that game for
(29:07):
you. Really good rivalry, goodand you know, good atmosphere up there.
You know, came out and playedreally well, cleaned football for the
most part. I mean we didn'treally finish drives very well. Left about
honest, twenty thirty plus on thefield in the first half. It was
(29:29):
fourteen six going in, and wekind of just wore them down at the
beginning of the third and pulled away. But they played really hard. Coach
Williams got a really good group upthere that played really hard. I think
they're really young from talking to them. So our offense played, you know
good, had over close to fivehundred toll yards. Offense, defense played
(29:51):
really good, hard all night long, played a lot of kids. You
know. It's always good just tojust a good overall win. Again,
it's kind of back on the backon the track there. Total yards making
any yeah, yeah, left lefta lot of points out there. Though,
so that that eat you, youknow, finished, I said,
except for the team, this weekwill be great. Hey, I'm telling
(30:11):
you, I'm telling you, Jeff, I take about four hundred. I
would take I would take I wouldtake one hundred and a win, you
know what I mean. But yeah, no, I'm with you absolutely well
speaking of that, you know,it was a good one over them,
Goshen. They're six and two. They beat what was it what a minute
now? They Yeah, yeah, they were. There were three and two
(30:34):
in the UH in the in theregion. So talk about playing in this
yeah, yeah, ghost and goodfootball team big down there in Troy.
Got a really good football team. The running backs committed to South Alabama.
A really good football player. He'sprobably about six ft six foot one two
thirty, runs hard. They tryto get it to him at least thirty
(30:56):
times a game. That's you know, that's their goal. And defensively,
they're very big upfront, and uh, they they're just sound that they do
what they do. And you know, they just got a good group of
kids that play hard, and sowe're gonna have to come out and match
that intensity and play hard too.And we got them at home. Good
Crowdley for a good crowd at MorganWashington Stadium, getting out there for Senior
(31:18):
Night and you know, kind ofsending these these three singers off on the
right note, and uh, hopefullywe can come out and get after them.
Win is in the playoffs next?It should be. I'm not one
hundred percent sure about the overall tiebreakers this year. I'm gonna have to
you know, we're gonna have tokind of just dive into those after the
game. But oh yeah, itshould be. It should be. I
(31:41):
believe, I believe that. I'mnot a long conversation with Coach Siegel about
we didreks. Yeah, but Ithink there's a good chance I could be
wrong, but I think I thinkthere is. So yeah, I just
gotta got to play hard man evenwin the game. Go right, I
(32:02):
mean that's the goal. Right wegot left Coach after Warboro County, Barboro
County, I canna say, yes, So you got two good games left
and then in the rigular season, all right, give me some kids.
Has been playing good for you,Coachell. Yeah, you know last week
Elijah and Woodfield. He's just beenso consistent, just mister steady. I
think he had like maybe seven oreight tackles on defense, caught eight balls
(32:24):
for one hundred and twenty something yards, ran for another forty. You know,
offensive line wise, Kingston Gooden's playingreally good football for US. Up
front, we moved Chris king thereto center. He's probably our best overall
lineman six three hundred at center andthat made a big difference last week for
US quarterback, young kid Riante Zigliethrew the ball very well one hundred and
(32:47):
ninety yards, passing three touchdowns.I think he was sixteen for twenty fifteen
for twenty and then defensively, man, there's two guys that have just been
very consistent for US is the Dare'sMorgan and Jeremih mcgilberry. They've both been
playing really well tenth graders and theyget after. They're big, their physical
and uh, you know, alot to grow on for those two right
(33:09):
there. Did you think you'd havea chance to get in there in the
middle of season things were growing reallybad. But yeah, it honestly felt
a lot like last year. Y'alldid say that. Man, when I
tell you it's it was just soeerily similar. Yeah, but you know,
I think these kids have really understood, like you know, most of
these kids are supposed to be playingjunior hout JV football. I mean,
(33:30):
honestly, let's just be really bad. They're supposed to pay on Tuesday nights
and we're asking, we've been askingthem for the last two years to play
up and so you know, they'relearning on the fly with the big boys
and rather than the kids their age, and that's uh, you know,
I think it's gonna help them inthe long run more so than possibly right
now. You know, everybody's gotto look at the future and look at
(33:52):
the bright spot that's uh on thehorizon, and I think we've got a
lot of really good kids that aregonna be able to grow from you know,
these next two or these last twoseasons into the next two three four
seasons for all them coming up,and uh, you know, I just
think that, you know, thefuture's bridling up. Very good way to
coach. I mean people said allthe time, and they come in waves,
(34:12):
right, yeah, small schools, yeah, and Lynette had about a
wave of about ten years that wasjust great, right or you know,
great football, and you know there'sspeed bumps along the way, and uh,
you know, everybody forgets coach story'sfirst year, there were one to
nine, you know, twenty somethingkids, and so you know you've got
to start somewhere, and you gotto keep going and growing. Coaching finished
(34:35):
five and five though, absolutely absoluteregular season and the regular season, getting
the playoffs, and you know, anything can happens. I've seen no fl
I could go to the championship withfour losses. There you go. Know
if you want it with four losses, I can give you a bunch of
names with four losses. It wantedfive losses. Absolutely, you got to
get in there to play it.I said, you're not in there.
You can't win it. I said, we both know that. Good to
see you. Thanks for YouTube, did Mark all right? We appreciate the
(34:58):
power. That's what y'all do.Yep, that's coach McDonald's in the house
at Moe's Barbecue. Our show ispresented to you by the orthopedic clinican that
view the Bobcasts. We'll make theirway to the microphone when we come back
at moles on the Kicker in FoxSports Somebody's new Coaches Show. Thank you
(35:21):
man, Welcome back to the HighSchool Coaching Show. We're coming to you
live from Moe's Original Barbecue. It'sbrought to you by the orthopedic Clinton Moe's
Original Barbecue, Fox Sports the Game, and Kicker FM ninety seven point seven.
The county is his best country. We got coach Pepper and of course
Corset. I'm sorry coach you werehere last week though, right, I
(35:42):
was all right, we were talkingoff the air. All right, Let
see coach last week Childersburg. Right, Yes, sir, you gotta win
there, Yes, sir, twentysix sixteen. We'll talk about that one
briefly. We'll talk about the nextopponent. Yeah, it was a good
win for us, good area whenregional, when guys, you know it
(36:04):
was one of them is where youwin or you knew you was pretty much
done. And uh we went outthere and and and played really good ball,
especially the second half. I don'tknow, something happened. We had
a big hit by one of ourlinebackers and fumbled the ball that early the
second drive, first drive of thesecond half. And I'm gonna tell you
something, man, our office lineand our our defense just started playing ball
(36:29):
that second half and we just tookover, especially defensively. I don't think
we've played that hard all year.Loan and they were having fun. Uh
and uh it was. It wasan exciting, fun, close ball game.
But it was one of them dealswhere you just knew you were gonna
win it then and the end ifyou just kept doing what you were doing.
And we were so so proud ofour guys fighting from the especially from
(36:52):
you know, the very first partof the game all the way through,
never quit, never giving up.Guy behind a little bit, got had
some downtime, you know, hadsome bad plays happened, But when it's
all sudden done that second half,we just took over and and really play
some good football. All right,Coach, this is deep in the season.
It is a physical game. Youcome out of it healthy for the
(37:13):
most part. Yeah, we're we'rehealthy. Uh No, you know,
you got ankles and you've got shouldersand you know you you you know,
got those type of injuries that everythingeverybody's got them. So you just have
to battle through that. And nowyou got to suck it up and just
who wants to the worst because thesenext two games going to determine whether we
get to go to the playoffs ornight. And you know, that's that
(37:34):
that was something we've talked about todaywhen was the last time we have you
to work this late into the season. We're talking about going to the playoffs,
and you know, here we are, we're still talking about it.
We're still in it. You know, we're still battling for the number four
spots. So there's some exciting timerunning school right now, getting excited about
that potential, that opportunity. Yougot two region games left. The next
(37:55):
one up, though, is RandolphCounty a very good team, traditionally good
team, historically a good team,Yes, sir, they're very well coached.
They're old school. I told youguys, they you got you gotta
go ahead, make your mind upnow. You're gonna be sore Saturday morning,
because, uh, the only waywe're gonna be able stop him is
we're just gonna have to play. Some guys are just going to get a
body up, you know, becausethey're going to be disciplined. They're gonna
(38:19):
run the ball off tackle, they'regoing to double team, they're going to
too tight in you. Uh,They're just they're going to pound you and
pound you and pound you. Maythrow the ball four or five times mats.
Uh. Defensively the same way, they're they're just good, solid well
coached football team and it's gonna bea big challenge for us. But hey,
you know, bring them on.We gotta play you know, yeah,
(38:39):
that's probably the game. I lovethat that sir. Well, you
know you're in a situation. Yougotta win one of the two. Yes,
the remaining games, yes, sir, you know what this is going
to get it over with this, sir? Win the last three. Yeah,
well that's it. That's what youwant to do. You want to
go three game win Street. Butyou know, two out of three is
is better than you know, noneout of three, so this to be
(39:00):
one for gotta win one for sure. But you know, uh, we're
excited about the game where we hada good, good day of practice to
day, good cool weather football. It's getting football where to find it.
Look here I'm putting on this, sir. You know, uh, grass
start getting little brown and stuff,so you know it's uh, it's exciting
time to you know for high schoolfootball. Ractor. You know I'm gonna
(39:21):
go ahead. You I want tobrag them though. The man, I
mean, Atlanta Braid is probably themost the best team ever assembled. And
the Phillies get hot at the endis when you get high. That's it
exactly right. And so you know, I want to commend your program for
allowing to be to have the opportunityto play out there too. I think
that's look I mean say, beauty, thank you, thank you for allowing.
(39:47):
I know it's a county thing,but that's awesome for well, it's
you know, accommodations y'all are doingfor poker. You know you just so
thank you for that. It's thething today. You know, I'm gonna
be on top of tomorrow night.Know it ain't anything for y'all I do
because I know how y'all are,but it is a big deal, and
I think it's good that y'all dothat. You know that are open armed
about it and you know, workwith them, and well we're all in
(40:10):
the same business, try to dothe same thing. And and uh,
you know, their their family downthe family. So I've got to take
care of family. And I'm gonnatake in board guards. They're open their
field too form. But I justthink, you know, morn night TV
will get there, they'll do y'allsome. They'll brag on y'all too,
you know. But back to thegame, coach, I know you hadn't
chimed in talk about tomorrow Friday night. Well, it's yeah, right,
(40:32):
yeah, sorry, yeah, Imean I said tomorrow night. I meant
Friday Friday night. Yeah, wegot to tomorrow Night's that's really yeah,
well coach Pepper said it. Imean, they're gonna line up right right
at us. And that's what wechallenge our guys with is stopping the run.
And you know, we'll see whatwhere the chips fall. And like
I said, we got two gamesleft to uh in the region. We
need to win one of them. It'd be nice to win both of them.
(40:53):
Like I said, go ahead andget it out of the way for
this game and then go into Weaverand Horse you ben and finish it out
and get the playoffs. So soone of two gets you in, one
of two gets this in. Okay, all right, all right? And
and you think you guys are readyall all of them. Yeah, we're
we're gonna be ready. We're youknow, we're getting healthy again and we're
(41:16):
fine. You know, it's justyou get your experience some stuff. These
kids are experiencing stuff that they've neverexperienced before except baseball guys, And you
know that's a good thing. Ourbaseball program made to the playoffs last year
for the first time, and alot of those guys playing football. So
now you know, we talked, been talking about it, been talking about
it. Now you know, carryold baseball to football. I've seen it
(41:38):
happen, you know, plenty oftimes, and then it just you get
that ball to rolling and now youyou know, you start building something athletically
for the male sports. And baseballdid it last year and we're gonna try
to keep it going with the footballteam and baseball do again in the spring.
So that's it. That's exactly rightnow. And it's the truth.
It really is no doubt about it. Does it gets It's all about one
(42:01):
out? You could could you takethe second spot? I was no because
of the I don't believe. Well, y'all got three losses, No,
y'all got two. Yeah, you'dhave to have David and Randolph. Oh
I forgot about David. Well,I can, I can, I be
honest with you, we hadn't lookedat that at all. We're just trying
to get that four spot. Takabove. Yeah, you just want to
(42:21):
get in, so I mean Idon't I don't want to. Good luck
have it. Look about it.Look that thank you Randolph County Friday night
against the Bulah, that's the Bobcats. We're taking a break. The Auburn
High Tigers will be up when wecome back to Moves High School. Coach
Shall continues bother with think thanks coaching. Mhm mhm hm hm hm hm.
(43:00):
We welcome back to Mo's Barbecue.High Coaches show on the Kicker in Fox
Sports The Game nine ten thirteen tend Mark Jeff Jason coach, Keith Edthridge,
what's up coach? Yes, sir, doing good? Sethridge coach didn't
know the real no coach. Lookwhat she's the bowling coach and she keeps
on her day is coming. That'sright. Baker for man, he knows
(43:23):
all about it. Hey, she'sgonna fight it. She will fight it
now. You know what. It'sten years ago when I saw and I
and I was like, what isthis Baker fore man, I got to
looking at him like man, helearned about it. Crying he didn't.
He think they do it to getmore kids involved, he coached, they
do. I think that's I thinkthat they do. My suggestion is do
it like golf. Take five peopleuse four scores. Yes what he said,
(43:45):
and he's like, got you know, the best drop dropped the lowest
like that. Because and then mypastor Myers as we call him, Myers
as I call him, he wouldbe like saying, he says, it's
like rotating a quarterback every play orevery quarter. And I'm like, well,
you know, you have to thinkabout it. And then once he
found out miss Coach Ethers, He'slike, I got somebody to fight it.
Now. So you got educated fromtell Myers, just draw it.
(44:07):
You got educated from you? Notnow, I'll tell you. When Coach
Curtis we were sitting at the heheard about it, and we we got
I don't I think he wasn't atthat he came down here something when he
figured it out, he looked atus and went, well, that's stupid,
didn't he He brought it up first? And then after that I went,
(44:30):
y'all, it's on that. Wegot the president of the board right
here. But anyway, people inthe radio or going, what are they
talking about? We're talking about bowling, but we're going to football. What's
going on? Coach? It wasjust fine. Pitts, a junior defensive
end is a big young good. What number you eleven? Number? Eleven?
(44:52):
Sir, you're too big to bewearing number. How many Pitts have
played it all? Yeah? Areyou candy? All those pits from like
past years like to your we've beenWe had we had a walker Walter Pitts
at poker. You know him?No? Probably he probably related to me
(45:14):
though. I got a lot ofcousins I got. There's a lot of
pits, but he's the best ofthe pit. You play? What do
you play? Defense? Right? And what else do you play? Any
other sports? I played like travelbasketball? You don't play for coach Brant?
Okay, all right? How areyou thinking about your team? Uh?
I think we're really good. Ithlaik. We got a shot at
(45:36):
State, but we got to handlebusiness Friday. What do you think about
playing center? I'm excited. Ilike to go against good competition. It's,
sir, how good all day? They're real good? Yeah? Okay,
they like a good like that?Yes, sir? Taking full quarter
game, isn't it? Yes?Sir? What did you think about playing
over and oplacka the other week?It was fun? I point down there
because you see who the coach is. I didn't mean it anyway, Aaron
(45:59):
was messing with him. I sawhim. He was messing with him this
weekend. Okay, I didn't meanit like I'm just going to point yeah,
Eric, Eric saw him at theat the youth fields this weekend.
He said, Hey, what didyou what did your coach tell you that
they got the tails on? Hewas They said he was about telling him
and one of the old people,Hey, that's that's the head coach block.
(46:24):
That was a good game though. It was a great game. It
was a great football game, greatatmosphere, you know, just and those
kids love playing in that type ofyou know, it's just it's a it's
a special situation. You win oryou lose. You get a chance playing
games like that. It makes youbetter. Coach. I used toill enjoyed
broadcasting. I can't yeah, coachingthem all right, you got another one.
(46:45):
Oh you're essentral at the duck bigas it can be. Ye,
it is. It's a big game. You know, they just got a
great football team. You know, well coached, got great athletes. You
know, Uh, coach Nicks isa fantastic job with with his guys,
and you know there'll be fundamentally soundThey fly to the football. You know,
they've got athletes all over the place, and you know, uh,
(47:07):
we gotta we gotta play really reallygood football to have a chance to win
that game. What what kind ofgame do you say? At low scoring,
high scoring? I think it's gonnabe med I mean, I think
that both teams will make some plays. I think that uh, you know,
of course, the team that makesthe most and don't turn the ball
over, I think is gonna youknow, have a chance to uh be
(47:30):
up at the end of the game. You know, you can't turn the
ball over in a game like this. You can't get you know, unnecessary
penalties, pre snap penalties, youcan't. You know, just the little
things go go a long way ina game like this. Uh, one
play here or there can change thecomplexion of the game. You know,
it's just which side of that playeryou own. You know, I think
(47:51):
that, uh, if we cankeep them from getting the big plays.
You know, eight's a big playreceiver. Fives a big play receiver,
tens a bit. They've got alot of weapons over there. Six is
a great running back, twenty fouris a good running back. You know,
the quarterback can really spend it youknow, a good upfront on offense,
really good upfront defense, you know, linebacker. You know, the
(48:14):
Hood kid has came on and he'sbeen really good this year watching him play,
as you know in the in thefilms that we have, he really
gets to the football. And theirsecondary is made up of three or four
guys who have d one offers, you know, So we got to play
really well, and our guys areWe've had a good week of practice and
our guys are pumped up, andyou know, we had an off week,
(48:35):
had a bye week, and youknow, trying to get some guys
healthy and hopefully we get those guysout there and they can help us out
a little bit. To you thinkingthat bye week helped you, yeah,
I think so. It gives youa little little time to rest. Of
course, you worry, you knowat the start of the game or we
gonna have a little rust, youknow, or a little rust because we
didn't bang around this week these lasttwo weeks. Tried to get there by
(48:59):
help. He tried to get youknow, not as much contact, you
know, so we don't lose anybody. We did have a kid get a
separated shoulder last week, so he'llbe out, young kid. He you
know, just doing some tackling stuff. He rolled and you know, shoulder
pats sort of came up and helanded flat on his shoulder separation the AC
(49:21):
joint and it's grade three. Sohe's probably out for season, you know,
may have to have surgery. Sowe'll find out tomorrow if he's got
to have surgery. Really good, really good kid. And you know,
you hate to see those young kids. You know, he's a kid that
plays a little bit, you know, but you know he's one of those
full time JV guys that plays alittle bit on special teams on Friday nights.
(49:43):
And you know, uh, butthose guys, you know, those
guys want to play away from benstarters. Yes, you've got to be
ready, all right, I seehan? Who we got back here?
My man? Who are these guys? Who's your teammates? Back here?
Who all we got? H Yougot Amaya's great house, Amaya, he's
right here all right? Else wegot what about big Man? That's a
nice right now, okay? Andthen we got tree Bark as well?
(50:05):
All right, Trey, well rightthere in the red hoodie, you got
Pete Pete, Pete Davis. Wegot right there. I know that guy
right there. Yeah, that's myhe had he had an interception, I
believe, didn't he almost almost allright, he's been here before. I
know, Han, he's my bud. You got the one in the arbor
hoodie right there in the black urbhood that's DJ. Okay, Well,
my man drinking a drink. Brother, that's King, and he's drinking coked,
(50:27):
by the way, and that's whythe young man with a white hoodie
on white tracks all defense. Whatyou thinking about? Han? Great kid?
Yeah, I love my brother kid. He is to you. He
is right, he said what youlove him? He is a show.
He works for me at the ballpark. I know he's a good one.
He will hit you to one.Yeah, yeah he is. He got
(50:51):
every place he does. You knowwhat. I like that he does go
one hundred every play. What aboutyour kicker? He's not that good,
is he? He's he's real goodlike I love I love town I tell
you what Towns did, buddy?Excuse me? I say that meant we're
enterprise. Gave me and your coachwas standing out in the middle of the
field and we were talking with coachthree, I mean coach blackman with enterprise,
(51:15):
and they were joking around and nextthing you know, he's kicking a
fifty five yard field goal and itgoes right smack down into the back of
the building, Yeah, the fieldhouse, which means it went sixty five
or seven. And he turned aroundand gave that a little grimace, and
I was like the whole mercer, but he hasn't got And you know what,
it could come to a field goalFriday night. Good, it could
(51:37):
come to hope it does. Yeah, what about their what about their kicking?
They got a really good kicker too. I mean he's he's he's a
kid in kicking fifty yards. Youknow, he kicks it in zone,
will kick offs, you know, you know he's he's good. You know,
we just gotta we gotta hope we'regetting to kick it. What's the
playing for a guy like him?Uh? He's great coach. I love
(52:00):
I love listening to him when II can trust him for a lot of
stuff. I can depend on him. I see him as a father figure.
Sometimes. He's a great man.I love you ever get mad?
I've never seen him. I mean, is he ever not happy? No?
No, he's happy most of thetime, unless you unless you lie,
all right, coach you, She'llcontinue and welcome back to mose barf
(52:36):
be good catch for what your say. She gets out here. Welcome at
Valhah. They didn't throw pass usat Valet High. They did, Yes
they did. Yeah, we hada little coffee still right here at the
table, David High School in thehouse, Roger, How you doing.
I'm doing good? How you doinggood? Man? Tell us about David
Night. I got it. Youknow, had off week this past week.
(52:58):
Got to go watch Childish Birds playBeautle, I said, we play
Friday night. Go ahead, coachyou good. I'm hey. Anyway,
so if somebody could see this thisit would be be good. This is
classic radio one O one baby.So anyway you'll beat Childrensburg. Uh.
(53:20):
Yeah, you had a night toscout, had a night to go scout.
Uh what I what I already knewabout Childrensburg? Uh got good size,
good athletes. They have an exceptionalathlete at quarterback. I'm hoping they're
ready for basketball. Yeah, youdon't want anybody ready for football right now.
Yeah, I hope they're ready forbasketball. And but you'll beat them,
you know. And we saw somethings that we thought would be good
(53:43):
and you know, it's like normallyit's it's fun funny game. They serious
business. Now this one we win, Friday guarantees at least third in the
region. Uh, can't finish anylower than third. Then the next week
a heince, we now we canbump up the second. So you know
it's it's down the serious business now. And uh so we've had a great
(54:04):
week of practice. Kids are lockedin focused. It's homecoming. But you
know most people that's a distraction. But you know, when I got to
day when one of things Richard Whitesaid is our kids always play good at
homecoming, and they do. SinceI've been we've played great at homecoming,
and so I'm hoping we continue thattradition and and and play well. And
(54:24):
you know, had it like Isaid, I had a great week of
practice, got everybody healthy. Soyou know, it's like a playoff game,
even though we're in just moving up, knowing you're third and not going
to be fourth, having an opportunityfor the next week if you win,
to move up to second. Uhthat's where you want to be at this
(54:45):
point in time. And you know, our kids are, like I said,
had a young team, but likeI told them, you know,
you've been playing a year now,so the juniors, your seniors and juniors
are really you know, sophomore asa junior, so everybody's a little you
know, they're a year old goneinto the season, you know, And
(55:06):
we've had all these off weeks.Had the newspaper ask me today had they
heard or helped? And I said, well, we hadn't lost the game
after one, so I assumed theyhelped. But I don't like it.
I like playing one through ten andI said this, We're not gonna get
in this situation again. I've been, you know, having so many off
weeks, and some of it wasout of our control, of course,
but this past week was the scheduledoff week. But but more about Childsburg,
(55:31):
I'm just they you know, they'retrying to fight to get in the
playoffs. Two because if if Bulahloses to Weaver week nine and we do
beat Childersburg, it's still a threeway tie. And if Childersburg was to
beat us, it really gives theman advantage, so they still have an
(55:52):
opportunity to get in the playoffs. So that's what they're trying to do.
Sure, So anyway, I justhope they're you know, basketball practice could
have feit start Tuesday. So Ihope they were ready to start basketball.
You know, they're known as abasketball schools, right, I hope that's
what they were doing. And Ihope and the head football coaches also the
head basketball coach there. You hopehe's ready to go. I hope he's
(56:14):
ready to go to and but youknow, our kids ready to play.
Like I said, they've had agreat week of practice. It's fine.
And I just told him we gotto go out, you know, control
line scrimmage. Hit him in themouth, and you know, like I
said, it's it's serious business this. Yeah. And yeah, well you
got two games left on your schedule. I got region games. Yeah,
(56:34):
two region two region games. Ishould have clarified that. Randolph County you
got. You got this week Childersburg, Childersburg. If we beat Childersburg,
we can't finish any worse than third, and it'll set up the wee dow
we game for who finish his secondin the region. Okay, so it's
simple, you know, not alot of math to it. Y'all.
Play we down. We are Wicksburg. We played Icksburg week ten. We
(56:57):
dow he is Randolph County. Ohokay, oh that's what's that's what?
Yeah, I say, we downit's Randolph County. Sweet that you know?
Yeah? Yeah, yeah yeah.So we play we dow a week
nine and last region, get right, Randolph County. Their only loss was
to Walter Well Walter Weell Region. So uh, it's like I said,
just right now, it's like playoffs. You know, hey, you just
(57:19):
want to get into play not justplaying to be playing a game at this
point. Uh, these next twoweeks set up where you are in the
playoffs. Oh yeah, and thefirst two get the host. Yeah,
and that's big and and the otherthing is this, and I've always said
this, third ain't always terrible. You just never want to be fourth.
That's right, because if you're fourthand you're getting the true number one,
(57:43):
you ain't got a good shot. You know, who do y'all matter who
you match up out of Mobile?Which one and two are going to be
Mobile Christian and Thomasville three will probablybe w s Neil say, you just
about can get that figure. Butyeah, and I'm gonna be honest,
you know, you don't know betweenMobile, Christian Thomasville, actually, who's
(58:06):
really number one? To two, even though Mobile Christian has beat them.
You know Thomasville we played them inthe playoffs last year and I thought Thomasville
was better than Mobile Christian watching themboth on them right. So you just
don't want to finish fourth. Andthat's what I've always told people. Everybody's
always I've heard it for years. If you finished last, you probably playing
(58:28):
a good number. You ain't gota good shot. You know how many
I wonder how many times a fourseed in the region has gone to the
championship. Probably not many, Iwould, but I have as a head
coach, had several upsets going inas the number three seeds and beating the
number two. We had a hugewin years ago when I was Vala Hiahs
(58:49):
the three seed. We went toBirmingham upset We known a who was nine
and one and the only loss wasto a ten and o' bridwood team and
we upset them. So being athree seed, if you go on the
road, you're gonna get back homethe second round. So that's the good
thing. If you can go,you get back and sometimes you'll draw week
(59:10):
two and week three at home,so you just got to survive at first
week. I like it, coach, your glass ain't half empty, No,
just have full. Yeah, justhalf fool But we got to take
care of things first because, likeI said, don't want to fool around
get into a time. You know. That's why I said, realistically we're
in mathematically we won't be until wewin Friday night. We want it to
(59:31):
be mathematically done and we want toguarantee we can't finish less than thirty.
Right, So that's what's on That'swhat's on the line Friday. How's your
team as far as the things inthe band, you know, everybody,
everybody's got them. Everybody's got thelittle and lost up some people. Yeah,
we really don't have a lot rightnow. We got my left tackle.
(59:53):
Uh, he missed the budle ofgame. Uh had an extra week,
you had an ankle sprain. ButI'd say he's probably back at ninety
five percent. We actually got onekid back that had a bad knee injury
week one, and he's actually backwhen we be able to play Friday nights.
I gotta grace. Yeah, so, I mean he didn't have to
(01:00:14):
have surgery, but it kept himout that long. Really, so we
actually getting a guy back. Isthis a lineman, defensive line, running
back and you know, some ofmy defensive linemen don't look like defensive lineman
because of what we do, rightand uh, but he plays defensive line
and running back. So I'm assumingyou're gonna run the football against Jills World,
right, Huh, because we're gonnatry to run it no matter who
(01:00:35):
we played, I know. Uh, So, yeah, we're gonna run
the ball and uh, people havehad a lot of success running the ball
at him, and you know, that's what we're gonna do. And if
you know, if we can throwit, and you know, look,
we work every week trying to getbetter at it. Yeah. Uh.
And it's just last year we couldbecause we had lots of guys that could
(01:00:57):
and I had to give in anddo it because I had a quarterback could
do it and I had too whiteouts that were spectacular. But right now,
our our personnel doesn't dictate that, right, and they know that our
personnel just doesn't dictate that. Yeah, you know, and we've talked about
this, and I think that's everybodythat you know. I've heard coaches say
(01:01:19):
they were playing you years ago, maybe when you were in Ozar. Yeah,
uh said, uh, well youlook at for them from when he
coached the Valley. You know whathe's gonna do. Yeah, man,
it was all back. Look, you can look at it all the way
back to when I played in highschool. Because all I'm doing is running.
What I learned in high school ain'tnothing. I ain't real complic Do
you played for in high school?Steve White? Coach? What ye played
for? Coach? I hadn't seenhim in the White hit But every time
(01:01:40):
I see him, it ain't changeda bit. It looks like looks like
he did when he coached me.It was probably thirty five he coached me
too. Yeah, I know,and don't like Steve's good football. I
learned a lot of football. Uhbut we nothing changes. And but our
kids understand that. Uh. Butthe one thing that really fits like a
personnel for what we do. Imean I got seven running backs. Man,
(01:02:04):
that's seven back right. I meanthey want to run the ball.
Yeah, they don't want to beout there. Why that you use all
seven? Coach? Yeah? Werotate them all. Really, we'll play
run some right, some weeks onemight get fifteen carries one too. It
may change the next week, rotatingaround so and then I have brandas ason.
He's what if you got one that'sjust hot. He's tearing it.
He's always hot. Okay, yeah, he I didn't know if you if
(01:02:24):
you one about one tenth grade?Yeah, he always he's pretty special.
Yeah, coach, thank you, good luck, Thanks very much, take
care. We'll see you next week. We'll be talking about Yep, that
number two, that's fot that's right. Hey, next up, Borguard High
School coach jas No, they're rightbehind me. Right after this, we're
(01:02:49):
gonna take a break. All right, Well, we're back at Mose Mose
Barbecue the High School Coaches Show.Yes, this is the most exciting seven
minutes of the coaching Show. Iguess seven? Is that correct? We're
(01:03:10):
getting seven tonight? Uh, youknow, I don't. Hey, he's
up to this. He's up tothe man. Hey, my man says,
we got eight minutes. Wow,what we're breaking records? Tonight was
back you know, I'm sorry thisthis is seven minutes. Yes, this
is what I got all track. When he gave us eight minutes, he
(01:03:30):
gave us eight minutes. Bay,we want to thank North Pittic Clinic,
Fox Sports the Game, Yes,Mose Barbecue and no North and again yes
the kicker w k R ninety sevento seven. That'd be Lee Kenny's best
country, that country. Yep,all right, what you wanna talk about?
First, we got mister Sastris hereback with us today. I'm proud
that he's back in the coach goodmister d marks with us as well.
(01:03:52):
So I was in an invitation lastweek. So and an invitational. My
daddy would always call it gallivant. All right, let's see coach out gallivant.
You know what this briefly talk aboutelmore counter, oh, some alart,
just some just some craziness of stats. Total yards, we had more
(01:04:14):
total offense than they did. Whatwe call like I guess you explosive plays,
you know, plays of twenty plusyards. We had three, they
had zero. And yet but wehad two turnovers on special teams. We
had two turnovers on offense that reallykind of and we had we had a
block punt that kind of just reallythey did yep, And just kind of
(01:04:39):
the momentum of the game, uh, you know played you know, at
times played really well on defense. The other the other stat that kind of
I guess the tail of the gamewas fourth down, like fourth down percentage
we were. We were one forfive, they were four for five.
So that that kind of that'll kindof tell you how kind of how the
(01:05:00):
flow of the game went. Sohats off to those guys, the guys
of Elmore County. They made ithappen when they had to. And you
know it doesn't like we've told thekids, We've had a really good week
of practice. We told the kids, like, nothing has changed as far
as uh, you know, we'veearned our right to be in the playoffs,
so nothing has changed as far asthat's concerned. We we know where
(01:05:21):
we are seed wise, I meanreally the and we've told our kids we've
got up. We've got three weeksto get the best version of us ready
for November to tenth and nothing. No disrespect to Clay Central, no disrespect
to Gemison, no disrespect to Lincoln, because they're all good football teams,
good football programs. But we've gotto make sure that over the next three
(01:05:42):
weeks by the product that plays onFriday nights gives us the best opportunity to
win coming November tenth, and thatwould be in the playoffs. So that's
kind of where that's kind of ourmindset, right now okay, Yeah,
absolutely, and that's exactly you weresaying that that's what you got left,
Yes, sir, Is that justone one region game? Well, yeah,
(01:06:03):
this this will wind up our region. Everybody's region play will be Friday
in our regions. Yes, okay, so and then really the we played
Central Clay Friday, the win loserdraw is not going to change the playoffs.
It's not gonna change the season. It's set. Yes, it's said,
Yes, sir, it's sid WellCentral Clay County. They are very
(01:06:24):
talented team. I just so wellcoached. It's just very well coached.
And coach Horn has been there forprobably since they since they for a few
years and came back. Yeah,it might have been when they put the
dirt down. He might have beenthere, So I'm assuming he probably played
there too. Coach I have I'mmiss, I have no idea, So
(01:06:44):
I just know that he's coached therefor years in that area. So oh
yeah, he coached them when theywere just Clay County, not Central Clay
County. Yes, sir. BenRussell came back at Central Clay County,
right, and he's won a couplethere, right, right, and five
or six when he was just ClayCounty. So I mean he's yeah,
he ain't got enough fingers. Hegot to put him on the stone.
(01:07:05):
You're right, Well, he's alegend. I mean, you know,
well, I think he's the currentlythe second winning as coach in the in
the States. And he's a lotyounger than the one that's ahead of him.
Oh wow, I see, Idon't, I don't, I'm not
real. I don't know Coach Horn'sage. I think it makes he's I
think he's like a year younger thanme or two. I got you,
I got you. Yeah, coachcoach Coach Curtis is number one right now?
(01:07:28):
Correct, Yes, sir, Well, he's a moving target, but
he's probably fifteen years older than coachOh wow wow. So you know,
if Coach Horn continues to coach, that's true, Yes, sir, one,
at some point he might be thewinning Yeah. Well it's no doubt,
no doubt. So he's going toright, I mean he's been Hey
has your team. Let's talk aboutthat. Like I said, We've had
(01:07:49):
a really good week of practice.Got a few you know, still got
a few injuries here there, butwe you know, we're still gonna put
a product out there Friday night. It's gonna you know, it's gonna play
hard, it's gonna do the thingsthat we need to do to try to
be successful. You know. Ourbiggest thing is making sure you know,
we still haven't put that that fourquarter game together. Our goal is to
(01:08:10):
have that Friday night and see wherewe stunted. So well, I think
this is about to be a fullquarter game, don't you go? I
agree, So it's gonna be aball game. So special team. Still,
other than the block punt, whatwas was it just we just oh,
with a block punt and then hwe dropped two punts so and and
hadn't had any sho I mean reallyhadn't had a problem all year. It's
and it's just won of them, won them games a minute, you know.
(01:08:33):
Uh, it just kind of happenedthat way. You want to say
rain, but it didn't rain.Did Yeah, No, it didn't rain
Friday night. No. It waskind of nasty, but not necessarily Friday.
Toward the end of the game,it was kind of misty and stuff.
But they're in the game. Itwas final to fine, so it's
hey, we're finishingly hit extra football. Soon as we finished this season and
(01:08:56):
you're in. Yeah, we're in. So you know, you got to
have a shot, you gotta yougotta get in it. So, so
hats off to our kids and doYeah, there's still a lot up in
the air and a lot of otherplaces, and especially in five A football,
there's a lot there's a lot ofuh still craziness's out there. We
just happened to be one of thoseregions. It's kind of everything's ready to
(01:09:19):
go. So well, hey,uh, good luck coach this week Central
Clay County. I mean, youknow what you got ahead of you.
Yeah, Coach Waller, you wannatalk about them a little bit defensively.
I mean I think y'all call it. You know what you're gonna get with
it, and they're just gonna doit really well. I mean, I
think you know, he's one ofthe best head coaches or coaches in the
(01:09:42):
state and his team shows up andimproves that every week. So you know,
we're gonna have to really do ourjob and do it well to have
a chance. Yeah, you andyou wonder when they're ever gonna have it
down yere. Hey, we're lookingfor we want Boardguard to have a good
night and Central play to have adown night. Fright, Let's make it
happen, to make them, makethem, Let's make it happen, Make
it happen. Hey, we're gonnatake a break. We'll be back.
(01:10:04):
We got coach uh, Juan Williams. Williams and the Fayette High School Bague.
Yeah that's right. Hey, welcomeback to the high School Coaching Show.
(01:10:28):
We're coming to you live from Mar'soriginal barbecues. Jeff Sasser, Jason
Lee, coach one Williams, who'sgot with the day? Coach? Coach
Coach Thornton all right, dc uhthe fat high school coach. Let's see
last week you you have. That'sa big that's a big rivalry game.
(01:10:51):
Yeah, play well. The scoreis really indictive of what happened fourteen six
and a half, twelve and thestarting to fourth and just had a drive
going through a pick at the thepick six at the ten and really trying
to change the game on a momentum. Proud of our young proud of our
(01:11:14):
guys man play their hearts out andjust really ran out of gas right there.
Then really great game for three quartersto us, just just ran out
of gas. Cut you had arunning back out for a little while,
right, it was that you hadhad to run it back. Now now
our starting running back is that ithas been out a whole season. And
yeah, you know he's towards aclay. Okay, yeah, and I
(01:11:35):
screaming, okay, yeah, Iwas thinking maybe you were getting one back,
but that's that wouldn't be the case. Yeah, well know to our
best players, we went towards Achilles. Coach. Yeah, so yeah,
they'll be back next year. Okay, you know all right, hey coach,
Uh, you gotta travel to Hollandhome. Yes, Cirtain, we
(01:11:56):
gotta gotta go. You had thegoosen this year and Holland now how home?
Yes, sir, so, soyou're a road warrior all year.
Yeahs are pretty good trips, right, yeah, good loan trips. Tell
anybody in the time you cross theinterstate, you going a good little minute
when you cross the inner state.Oh yeah, little coach holling Holm heard
about them all year seeing what they'vedone. Uh, they got a talented
(01:12:18):
team. They have a real talentedteam. They they're gonna be They're gonna
be a team to talk about inthe end. I think too, they'll
be there. They'll be down inthere deep really good skilled guys. And
I think he got nineteen juniors onthe team maybe, so there, he'll
(01:12:40):
have a senior class of nineteen nextyear. Yeah, something around there.
I think that's huge for to Yeah. Yeah, I mean that's something you
see like in much bigger classification tohave that many sceners. Yeah, and
then you know, you know theywere they were really good last year,
you know, so just to youknow, we can you can in small
(01:13:00):
ball, you can look down theroad said we're gonna be good for the
next two or three years. That'sbig. That's big. Well, coach,
what how do we match up agatyea, Well, I like coach
ying. Man, those guys theylook good. I can't take that away
from them. I just want ourkids to not go into this thing being
(01:13:23):
afraid. Just go into it andjust have fun, to play football,
do the things that we were askingyou to do. And I think we'll
we'll play we'll play pretty good. You know. I feel like, you
know, we had a lot ofkids to get in last week as well,
so you know, even though we'replaying in a lot of young guys,
(01:13:43):
those guys are growing up for oureyes, So you know, that's
gonna help us out, you know, a little bit down the road as
well. So I think, youknow, we tip your hats off to
who they are, but I thinkour kids, I just want them to
compete. That's the main thing. How do you how do you come Look,
I mean these guys are in highschool. They all can read,
so, I mean they know whothey're playing right right, How do you
(01:14:06):
how do you get them past thatcoach to pigback on what coach said?
I mean, just to compete. You know, every day is gonna be
your day in life. Every dayit's not gonna be your day, but
you have to make it and navigatethrough it anyway. The Good Lord and
gave you a day to do it, so you have to navigate through it.
(01:14:27):
You know, you're gonna have goodand bad days, so and you're
gonna sometimes meet up against something thatyou're gonna have to overcome. So you
know, that's all we try toteach our guys to go and meet the
challenge head on and not just seewhat happens, right, just play hard?
What's it? You give it allyou got and you know, let
you leave it all on the field. Yes, certain, Yes, I
mean you can hit them hard justlike they hit you right. Yes,
(01:14:48):
sir, they're there their skill guysor they're really really talented. So yeah,
I mean it's uh their quarterback thatreally impresses us. Uh, got
two or three guys on there thatcan can get it. You just got
and can't let them get started. You let them get started, you know.
(01:15:11):
So we just try to stop themearly, stop them early, and
not let them get started. Ourguys just got to hit our gaps and
we gotta we got to move theball on offense. Yeah. Well,
you know, I haven't haven't beento a game that they played in this
year, but I've seen highlights everyweek and uh, you know they the
(01:15:31):
real then they are. But hey, there in your region, you gotta
play and coach, you gotta playit. And that's that's life. And
you know, respect all, fearnone, you know, just that's the
thing. You know, respect everybody. You don't play, and you get
a lesson from it, no matterwhat, get a lesson you know what
you need to get better at.And ending the lost, win or loss,
(01:15:56):
you get to see good and bad. So how you sing your class?
What is it like? How manyyou got you seen how many sings
you got seven seven? What aboutthe what's the total roster size? Thirty
thirty seven seniors? So you gottwenty three. They're pretty fun. Yeah,
we play a lot of our youngguys play man. You know.
(01:16:16):
Sure, we're in a situation where, you know, if you have a
JV game or something, you know, probably got about what about fifteen out
there? Yeah, at the mostout there. Yeah. So yeah,
well so we're looking at those otherguys, you know, they and they
they're stepping up. They're playing. They won last night the JV one,
(01:16:38):
so they and they're playing. They'replaying something on Friday nights too. Yeah.
Yeah, sometimes yep, you haveto. Hey they're young. That's
a lot of fun to do.Yeah, it is, it is and
they enjoy it. Yeah. Soyeah, fifteen on the JV and you
got them and all of them aredressing with you on Friday nights, and
about eight of them, eight ofthem addressing with you. They're playing them
so yeah some of them are youare you scared to let down to play
(01:17:01):
JV? Fraidie will get her?You need one Friday Night's coach? Did
he ever get? Like? Man, I don't know if I want him
to play. Well. Some ofthem, you know, you know,
some of them be like I ain'twanna go. I just want to y'all.
We gonna put you. You gotyou can just just okay, Well,
thank you, good luck? Coacha. How you got a challenge ahead
of your silent homes La Fed HighSchool? That was coach Jan Williams.
Up next, Eric Speatman and OplaLike a High School. You're listening to
(01:17:23):
the Coaching Show live from mold Arb. Hey, welcome back to the Coaching
Show. We're coming to you livefrom Moe's Original Barbecue. It's brought to
you by the Orthipedia Clinic. Ofcourse, it's brought to you by Moles,
Fox Forts the Game and Kicker FMninety seven point seven. We got
coach Eric Speatman from up Like aHigh School? Good win last week,
coach, Yes, it was uhdefeating Smith States forty two to fourteen.
(01:17:44):
Was that the final? Yea?I think it was? Yeah, forty
two to fourteen. You want togo over that one brief and then we'll
move on to that next opponent, which is Enterprise. Yeah, a big
one tomorrow night. But uh yeah, last week we went down to Smith's
first time since I think twenty seventeenthat we hadn't been down there, and
uh, kind of sluggish in thefirst half. Weever, actually the first
opening kickoff ever returned ninety eight yardsfor a touchdown, So great play by
(01:18:08):
their kid and not great coverage byour kids. So kind of sleep walking
into that game. And you know, I think a lot of that came
from that the way we lost toAuburn the Light the week before, and
but we got I think it wastwenty one to seven at halftime and then
we ended up scoring. So basicallyit's twenty one to seven both halves,
we're able to pull away from them, and you know, ran the ball
(01:18:29):
really good. It was a mistynight, wasn't raining, but just kind
of real misty and on the grassout there, we decided to run the
ball a little bit more than normal, take it off for Roman that night
and tried to get the run gamegoing and we ended up with Jordan Waits
rushed for about one hundred and thirtyyards and four touchdowns. So it was
a great night for him and hewon the Away News Player of the Week
(01:18:51):
this week, so big, bigfor Jordan. Okay, hey, well
this week he got Enterprise on aThursday night. Enterprise, y'all kind of
got bout the same record region wise, they have one less win, correct,
you know, so I'm obviously theygot another region game in there somewhere.
Yeah, they'll play. We're offthe last week, so when we
drew out the region, we endedup pulling our bye week? Is that
(01:19:13):
last week of the season. Uhso we actually played ten straight and then
I have a week off, andso our region will be playing November third,
I think is that Friday that thatwill be off. But you know,
Ben's got a really good group, really good on defense. They played
really well. Of course, theycame up here and beat Auburn back earlier
in the year in a really goodgame, and they hadn't been great on
(01:19:33):
offense. He's kind of struggling searchingfor a quarterback. But they do just
enough to they score enough points towin. They put up some points on
some other people, but in theregion, you know, they've struggled scoring
points, but everybody struggled scoring pointson them. So does a great job
obviously. And you know, defenseis one we've seen before with coach Stineker.
(01:19:54):
He was at Spanish Ford all thoseyears. We played them, and
then he went up there with Benso little familiar already with that, and
uh be ready to roll tomorrow night. You know, we excelled defensively.
When I say we, Opelika hasa really good defensive team, Uh what
do they do well? Offensively?Run the ball? They take their best
(01:20:14):
player, who is number five andnamed Eric Winters. He's got to offer
from about everybody in the nation.Uh, but he plays safety. He's
more of a safety linebacker in college. But Ben put takes him and puts
him over at quarterback some and youknow a lot of Q run very similar
to what Auburn did with Henry Allen. Uh So we'll have our hands full
stopping him. But the good thingis he has to play defense too,
(01:20:35):
so they kind of have to limithow much he can do on offense just
to keep him fresh for because he'salso their best defensive player. Uh So,
you know, in seven day it'stough to play those kids non stop
both ways. So he's been bringinghis number eight back in some. The
kid was injured against Phoenix City afew weeks ago, but he's now back
playing and he alternates those two kidsin Uh, we're healthy, right,
(01:20:59):
Opelika. We lost our running backlast week, one of them to a
shoulder injury. So we'll be downone for a couple of weeks and hopefully
everybody everybody else is good, sowe'll we'll be rolling with a kind of
stay. Yeah, we've had andwe picked up Mikay Simpson last week.
He came back. He was akid that was injured up to day pull
in the shooting this past March, and uh, he finally got to where
(01:21:20):
he was running good enough and weput him in. We put him in
last week, uh, you know, just to see what he could do.
He'd played two weeks ago against Albronand JV and he just he didn't
look right, you know, itstill had little lamp. And so last
week we gave him a chance toget in and ended up scoring a touchdown.
And tell you what, the bestpart of the night was just seeing
how everybody celebrated, you know, all the kids when he scored. And
(01:21:43):
uh, so big for Makay tocome back, and and hopefully we'll be
able to use him a little bitthis week, just getting him back in
the groove. So he and Jordanand Javian Williams and then Leland Bell.
So we'll we'll play those four guystomorrow night. Can Clint Clint a playoff
birth with a win, Yes,yeah, we go. Yeah, if
we go down and win tomorrow night, where at least in the playoffs.
So that makes it a huge, huge game for us to go down and
(01:22:03):
you know, hopefully if you know, if we keep playing well, we'll
be okay. You know, ifwe go down and play like we did
against Theodore, we want but uh, you know, we play against you
know, the way we played againstCentral and Auburn, even though we lost
both of those, we played reallywell, good tough games. But if
we do that, we should beokay going down to the Enterprise and then
you know, we'll return home nextweek for Dothan. So we talked about
(01:22:24):
you being in that three way tiewith Enterprise and Dothan. Obviously that's your
next two games. Is that somethingyou do you go over the scen area
with the kids or is it justyou know, yeah, you tell them
where we sit and you know theykind of knew it. You know,
there's five really good teams in thisregion for four spots, and uh,
really I talked to Ben today andtalked to coach Ether's while ago and you
(01:22:45):
really look at it, Central iskind of the front runner. Obviously,
they're beating everybody, and then theother four of us are all right there
with each other. You know,Enterprise beat uh Auburn in a really close
game, all re beat us ina really close game. Then we play
Enterprise and and Dothan just beat Enterprisein a really close game. So I
think the four of us are reallysitting right there all kind of the same
(01:23:05):
type teams that you know, ifyou don't play well, you're gonna lose.
If you play well, you canwin. That's exactly right. All
the games were close, Yes,all those games between us are close,
and then Central's blowing everybody else elseout except us. Yeah, you know,
we were able to play them tougher. They beat Central beat doth In
forty two, forty two to sevenor something, and they beat the Enterprise
(01:23:27):
forty eight to seven or somewhere inthat range. So they've actually blown those
two teams out. We played themclose, and then Auburn plays them this
week, so so we don't knowhow that that'll be. Yeah, I
think, you know, Auburn willplay them tough. I think our kids,
Our kids and Auburn kids grow upplaying the Phoenix City group. So
I don't know if there's really much, you know, I think some of
the other teams that ended up playingthem kind of are overwhelmed by them,
(01:23:47):
whereas our kids, you know,we may not beat them, but we're
gonna go play them tough. Sowe still play them in We still play
them in middle school. Yes,yeah, they played seventh grade, eighth
grade, and then we play themin ninth grade. That's usually where they
may see how men on the varsitytwo played in. There's some on the
team that did play, but notthe ones on the field. The ones
(01:24:08):
on the field are usually brought inaround ninth grade. Okay, I'm just
transferred portal hits around night. Yeah. Well the fourteenth Street bridge, yes,
yeah, you so, yeah,it only goes one way too.
Oh yeah yeah, yeah. Goodwin last week against Smith Station. We
talked about what you got coming upthis Thursday, but we cannot let you
go tonight without talking about the videothat has gone viral. Yeah yeah,
(01:24:30):
from your freshman game, Yeah freshmanon Monday night, Jaques Johnson made probably
the best catch you know, afterlooking at you see it live and you
think, oh, wow, thatwas crazy. Then you go back and
look at the video and hopefully everybody'sseen it has been tweeted out. Jay
Crane got a hold of it andretweeted it, and his brother Blaine that
used to live here, and thena guy named Mike Ferrell that does something
(01:24:51):
he's pretty big, retweeted it out. So it's been seen a bunch of
times, even on TikTok for thoseof people that do TikTok. But uh,
just an incredible catch by him,and uh, you know, I
told him, I'm will try toget to d ESPN at some point figure
out a way to give it tothem. So really cool catch. The
ball was thrown past him and somehow, I don't know how. I still
(01:25:12):
don't know how he caught it,but incredible catch. He caught it though.
They called it. That's pretty that'spretty forty Yeah, yeah, Van,
come in. Was it was itMonday or Tuesday? It would have
been Tuesday the Yeah, So ithappened Monday night, and then of course
by Tuesday morning it had blown upwith everybody showing the video. I was
talking to one of your freshman coachesand they were talking about how you know,
(01:25:34):
when you look at the game, they were trying to get one more
first down, try to put thegame, you know, run the clock
and all that. And when hethrew it, he threw it so far
as you said, they were alreadygetting the punting. Yeah. Yeah,
I was down in the end zonewhere they were, you know, moving
towards us at the practice facilion.I saw the ball throone. I thought,
oh man, we overthrew him.And then he just he kind of
(01:25:56):
looked like when you watch high jumpers. He kind of timed it out and
then all sudden he just exploded upin the air. The balls passed him
and then somehow with his right handhe reaches out pulls it back in.
Uh, just palming the ball basicallylook like an alley open basketball. Yeah
it is. It did exactly likethat. Yeah, coach look forward to
having him. He dresses out withus on Friday night, So we'll we
(01:26:17):
you know, if we have to, we'll have to. We might put
him in and try it again tomorrownight. Sure make another kid, Yeah
in a big game. Hey,well, good luck tomorrow. Yeah,
we'll talk to you about that.I do I can do tomorrow or either
one. Well, we just tellhim texta me, Yeah, we'd love
to get you before the game. All right, sounds good? Right?
(01:26:38):
Thanks? Hey, that's uh coachChakespeare with ope like a high school up
next to his noble saga. Yeah, and we'll be back right after to
(01:27:00):
the High School Coaches Show. It'sJeff Sassin, Jason Lee, and Coach
Williams from Noticeoga High School this afternoon. Coach, how are you pretty good?
How you doing? I am doingwell. I'm trying to find my
notes on you right here. Coach, Yes, sir, yeah, I
had a bit had a big onelast friday. We talked to you on
the Coaching Show, an excuse meon the Scoreboard show, and the first
(01:27:21):
words out of your mouth is we'restill looking towards the playoffs. So that
was a huge one last week thatit was. The guys played well.
I think we started off a littlebit slow, but you know, it
was senior night, so that wasexpected. But the guys came out second
(01:27:42):
half and really put their foot onthe gas and we were able to go
ahead and come out with that win. All right, So we talked about
this. You clinched the playoff spot. Now you're playing for the number three
spot, three spot, Yes,sir, and who we got this week?
We got Billious Sleep going up eightytwo, going up to Billingsley,
like I said, looking to clinchthat third seed in the playoffs. So
(01:28:05):
we're gonna go up here and tryto try to go ahead and do that.
Coach, they're a good team. They they got a very good quarterback.
He's a coach your son, sohe's very smart. Those of all
well, very accurate. So wehave to play discipline, you know,
(01:28:26):
in the secondary. And if wedo that, I think I like our
chances. Yeah. So you're threeand two in the region now coming into
this game. That you have thisweek is two and three Hainbal that you
just beat two and three, aswell as Calhoun that you got next week.
So how do you talk about thatthird spot? I mean, it's
you got. You got those twoteams the next two weeks. You can
(01:28:48):
solidify that without any help. Soyou control your own destiny there, sir
And, And that's what we've beenpreaching to the guys. Like I said,
since the beginning of the season. Our main has just been focused and
the guys come out they know whatthey have to do. We've been preaching
that they do control their own destiny. So we just got to go out
(01:29:10):
handle our business, take care ofeverything we can take care of, and
just let the chips fall what theymay. So you're three and two in
the region. You got two fiveand o teams that are playing each other
tomorrow, so that's one and twoprobably right, you're playing for the three,
three and two, two and three? Could you make it? Could
you make it to the No,you're right, three seed? Yes,
(01:29:34):
sir? Oh yeah, oh yeah, but uh, we're we're excited.
I think everything is coming together. We are all year because we still relatively
relatively have a young team, soour main goal we didn't want to peak
too early. So now I thinkwe're starting to click and starting to get
(01:29:54):
things right. So, like Isaid, we're trying to cleanch the three
seed, and I think going tothe player, I think we could be
one of the most dangerous three seatsout there. Is the youngest what's the
youngest player you got playing starting? We have an eighth graders on our offensive
lineman. But he's he's a dog, he got obviously pretty big, yes,
(01:30:15):
sir, yes, sir. Eighthgraders starting on the offensive line and
how many eighth graders play, coach? I think he may be our only
eighth graders, but we have wehave a lot of ninth gradert players.
Do you have? We have fiveseniors years, five seniors this year,
and junior class is obviously pretty big. Yeah, junior class is pretty loaded.
(01:30:39):
I want to say we have likeeight eight juniors. So yeah,
total roster size I think on theroster, I think we have like thirty
in all on the roster. Soyeah, we have a This is one
of the biggest scenes we had we'vehad in a while. But like I
said, we're still young, sostill have a lot of growing to do,
(01:31:00):
a lot of learning to do.But like I said, we didn't
want to pick too early. Sobut a lot of guys are starting to
buy in. So have a middleschool program coach, Yes, yes,
sir, I'm actually the JV headcoach. Okay, so what is that
seventh and eight seventh eighth grade?Yes, sir, I mean you got,
I mean players you got in yourseventh eighth grade team we look at
I think we had this year,we had like seventeen on the roster.
(01:31:24):
Okay, yes, sir, Sowe're looking at half of them moving up
to the varsity. A lot ofthem actually dressed for varsity games now,
yes, sir, yes, sir. Have they gotten some playing time?
Yes, they had, they had, they had Bill Dare. Oh yeah,
good luck this week, Thank you, sir. Hope y'all do get
that three spot. Yes, sir, talking about three is not that bad.
You play it too, yes, sir? Go blue. Hey,
(01:31:56):
welcome back to the high School CoachingShow. Jeff Sash with Jason Lee Barkless
come to your life from Moe's OriginalBarbecue. This was brought to you by
the Ords Pede Clintic Moe's Original Barbecue, Fox Sports the Game and Kicker ninety
seven point seven Kicker FM. Andnext up is coach Smite Gridor from benjam
Russell High School. Good afternoon, coach, How were you a good evening?
Good evening? Yeh? Did nicewin last week? You went to
(01:32:19):
uh you played Fellow one fourteen, clinched the playoffs fight? Right? Was
that was that the win that clinchedit? Yeah? That put us in
Okay, got an opponent this weekgoing to Bridewood. I so you got
to go a little further north. How far is Bridwood from you? All?
About the hour and hour nice, about an hour and five minutes bad.
Okay, Yeah, last week wasthat was a big win for us.
(01:32:42):
We needed to play well against agood team. Uh. You know,
that was well coached and it wasa good game. We you know,
it was a close game until thefourth quarter and we kind of pulled
away. Uh. Malcolm Simmons hada big first half, had three touchdowns,
had a big punt return for atouchdown called a pass for touchdown,
ran one in and our defense iscontinuing to get better, Jeff. They
(01:33:03):
played much much better. We onlygave up fifty eight yards rushing on the
night, and uh, you know, it just was, Uh was a
good, complete win against a goodteam. You know, Pelum's got a
good team and they still have achance to get in the playoffs if they
if they can win out. Anduh so there's a lot left at play
in our region. Well, coach, you play the number one. I
(01:33:23):
mean, you got Briarwood coming up. Uh, you've clinched the spot.
Briarwood has a similar record region record. That's true to you. Well,
you really got you got, wow, you got, we got, we
got, we got. We gotthree teams and all three of them are
three and one started playing for second, third and four. Well, no,
we can if we went out,we can win the region. Uh,
(01:33:45):
based on tiebreakers, because if wecan get into a three way tie
with Helena and Holmewood Our, ifwe can beat Valley, then we would
have that we would have more defeatedopponents victories, and that would give us
the win and the tiebreaker with somebodyelse that you out by beating Helleena.
We we still have Alena left toplay. Oh, you're right, I'm
sorry. So we could get intoit. But now that's we can't worry
(01:34:06):
about that. Just worry about Bribebecause they got a good football team now,
and they're solid. You know, they don't have anybody that wows you
that you're just scared of or youknow, you got a game plan specifically
for. But man, they areso they play so hard, they're so
well coached. You know, theygot twenty five years a tradition of winning
(01:34:27):
and uh, and they you knowthey're gonna be where they're supposed to be.
Uh, they're gonna line up right, you're not gonna trick them.
And so we've got to play wellto win this game. They got the
best defense that we've played to thispoint. So we got our hand.
We're on the road, you know, so it's gonna be a tough game.
It's not gonna be a gimme.Uh, we're gonna have you know,
I told our kids two weeks agothat the you know, starting with
(01:34:49):
Chilton County, every game was gonnaget more difficult. And so they're a
little bit better than tell them. And and then you know, down the
road, Helena's a little bit betterthan bri so beat them twenty eight,
twenty four. Right, so thisis this is a big one. You
know, we're in the playoffs. But that's not good enough. You know,
being ther seed and all that. That's great. It's great to get
(01:35:11):
in the playoffs. I don't Idon't want that to be something we celebrate
just getting in. You know, that needs to be the expectation, not
the celebration. The celebration needs tobe winning the region and making a deep
run in the playoffs. So thisgame is gonna determine what what our seeding
is and uh, and so it'simportant for us. Well, well,
Briarwood coach there, you're exactly right. I mean, they they've got three
(01:35:35):
losses. Of course, they lostto the number one right now, Helena
in a in a close from twentyeight twenty four. But they also lost
cleatch Haw, which that's a prettygood team. Yeah, Thompson lost to
cleat Chap that's right. So Imean that's in then Spain Park another seven
ages, that's right. So theythey've got some tough teams that they've played,
and uh, you know that theythey they're gonna be ready for us.
(01:35:58):
They'll have a good plan. Theygave us all we wanted last year
at our place, and uh youknow that, so you can't They're not
that team that you can look outthere and go, boy, we got
a lot more athletes and think you'rejust gonna run by them. But if
you just looked at their skit,I mean if their record right now,
you say, hey man, they'redown a little bit. Then I looked
at who they played and I'm like, well, Clay Chalk was gonna be
a lot of folks, that's right, that's right, And uh you know
(01:36:18):
so I'd love to get to playthem. Clay Chow. Yeah that means
we're in the championship. Yeah, but uh so you know we got we
gotta we've got to be better offensivelythen we've been all year, and we've
got to be better defensively. They'renot gonna they're not a big play offense.
They're a man. They're gonna makeyou know, those seven eight yard
runs and and they will. Theylast week, tell them made good yardage
(01:36:45):
on place where they fooled us throwbackscreens. Uh, they ran a fake
punt, a reverse, stuff likethat. Briarwood's going to be the same
kind of way they've got. They'vegot some great screens that they throw.
They got a couple of routes thatoff their sprint out game that gives you
a lot of problems. So we'vegot we've got to be solid defensively if
(01:37:05):
we expect to win, or they'llmake plays on us. So they're really
well coached. And you know, they got a big left tackle, but
all the other linemen are about thesame. They're about two hundred and twenty
pounds, but they come off theball and d line's the same way.
They all like they was all madeout of the same mold. Yeah,
you know about six foot one,two hundred and twenty pounds. Well,
(01:37:27):
you know last year didn't they have. Was it last year they had a
quarterback with the Clemson Yeah, hewas a good player. Yeah. And
but the kid they have this year, he's solid. They play a lot
of wildcat with their running back andput him back there and run the ball
with him out of quarterback position. The in the quarterback he's not gonna beat
(01:37:48):
you running the ball so much.He makes some good throws, but he
controls the offense and they formation youbig time. The old line coach came
from Mountain Brook, so they dosome of that Mountain Brooks shifting and stuff
that they do. And uh,you know, they shift a lot in
motion and all that, so youhave to be prepared for all that,
and so you know, it's alittle bit of a challenge. Defensively,
(01:38:11):
they try to make up for lackof athleticism with number one precision in what
they're doing, but doing things toto fool you, to to get you
out of position and get your eyesin the wrong place. Right. Everybody
good on your team. As faras health wives, we got some banged
up. Malcolm's got he got alittle bit of a sore ankle from the
game Friday night, and uh TySmith and you know, I told you
(01:38:32):
we had to kid playing with withno ligaments in his knee, and he
tweaked that thing at practice yesterday andI don't know if he'll play Friday.
Chris Foster's he's playing, but he'sgot a little bit of a shoulder.
I mean, it's that time ofyear. We got a lot of guys
with some just frame thumbs and youknow all that stuff. So it's that
(01:38:53):
time of year. Something ain't hurtingon you. You hadn't been playing very
old. Yeah, you got thosenagging injuries. Because thank you for coming
in. Appreciate it. Man.We'll see you next week. I'll be
here, good lord willing, andmaybe we'll be a step closer to winning
that region. I sure hope.So it's good to see you. Good.
Hey, We're gonna take a breakand we'll be back with coach Jason
Allen from Jambs Academy. Right afterthis. You're listening to the High School
(01:39:15):
Coaching Show from mos Original Barbecue.A right, Hey, welcome back to
the High School Coaching Show. Nextup is coach Jason Allen. We're coming
to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. Jason Uh, Coach Allen, I
took you away from what was youhalfway through? Hey, I was about
(01:39:39):
through with my supper, but Iwas enjoying the company of my wife.
You know, she's been been myrock for a long time. You know,
when you coach, you gotta havea strong woman. Yeah, I
always hear the thing. Yeah,I'm a I'm a I'm a coaches I'm
a coaches widow or you know allthis kind of because they're always gone.
(01:40:00):
Yeah, that's that's true. Yeah, you gotta have a special person to
be at coach's wife. That's right, all right. Coach, last week
you beat Making East thirty six tonothing. You're gonna talk about that briefly.
We get out with Senior night forus. You know, we were
we were a lot better than Makingthe East. We jumped out thirty one
nothing at the beginning at the endof the first quarter, and then we
(01:40:20):
scored another touchdown on a fun recoveryand then we just played all guys and
got out of there and make surewe stayed healthy and Renny clock some second
half and uh, you know,Making East is down, but you know
we we're not gonna try to kicka dog while he's down. And met
coach a lot and are good friends, and uh, you know, I
(01:40:40):
just felt like, you know,it was a great opportunity for all of
young guys play and sent our seniorsout in style. And uh, we're
playing really well, Jim for sevenand one. Our team has really improved
throughout the course of the season fromthat first game. Uh, we've kind
of figured out who we are.And it took a little time, but
I really think this team is playingas well as any as I've had in
(01:41:01):
a while. Yeah, all right, this week you got Hooper, you
win. You win at Hooper.Coach clinch a Region one championship. Yep.
And I was told by Scott Sickler, who was at Valley Times for
twenty thirty years, that that willbe the longest win streaking region titles in
the area in Chambers County history, maybe in around this area eight in a
(01:41:24):
row. It'll be eight in arow if we can win them eight region
Good luck coach, and congratulations.Yeah, well we're excited about that because
it's always our goal because you know, in Ais say, if you win
the region, you get to stayat home. There's no there's no switching,
even if you're number one you're athome, right, do you get
a five? There is no bye, there's no BUYE. The three a
(01:41:45):
out to buy this last year andthis year because of because they put all
their teams into one pool and theyonly had at eighteen and that will no
longer be in AISA after this year. We will go back to I think
we'll go to two big glasses andso it'll end up being three rounds,
no bias. Okay, all right, coach, Well, uh you got
(01:42:05):
you got this week. Of courseyou this this is the game. You
got a one game at a time, you got Hooper Academy and win the
region. Then you got uh,Glenwood left on your schedule, right,
it made your schedule. Uh wellRoddy Beck made it. But uh,
you know that's right. But weagreed to play Glenwood and least Scott.
They're both you know, much largerschools than us, but we feel like,
(01:42:26):
you know, that's a great competitionfor us. It's great gates.
It's uh, I'm friends with I'vecoached at both schools, so you know
it was it's rivalry type games andthat's gonna be a huge game. They're
number one in the AI S AI think we're somewhere around three or four
right now, so that could bea huge game. But our place next
Friday, and of course that'll bethe last last year that Glenn would have
played in the ai S. Atravel good to coach, they traveled,
(01:42:49):
they will they travel good, andwe will have a huge home crowd.
Yeah. Well, let's take itone at a time though, Let's get
let's take care of for this weekand then, Yeah, that game doesn't
matter, Jeff, I mean whatmatters we win this region game. I
think that Glenwood game will be agreat measuring stick for us to see how
much we've improved since least got gameone. But you know, our goal
(01:43:12):
is to win it. We wantto come out healthy though, because we
feel like we've got a great shotto make a good run in the playoffs.
Yeah, yeah, that would be. My biggest concern is making sure
