This is week ten. You've got to playoff outfit, know,
thank you man, that's the word. This is week ten
(01:00):
in our high school and we're starting off.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
You heard coach Keith Ethers the Auburn High Tigers.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
What's up, buddy, Rope, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Coach?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Get to get that roar? The number two seed in
the region. Yeah, that's see you roared well his buddy.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
That's up coach.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
They're all right, you need I mean you need. There
we go. We're passing out cards here, all right, coach
Ethward's good to see you, but good to see you, brother.
Everything good, everything's great. Grant's on the wind last week.
Thank you got your well secured that we already had
to take a place wrapped up, but secured a eight
and two season, right, which sounds a lot better than
seven and three.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
It does, it does.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Our kids have been gotten better and better.
Speaker 6 (01:38):
I think each week, you know, I think when we
talked about that in the first year, you know, just
getting better each week, and you know, playing well. We've
had some hiccups along the way where we didn't play great,
but we found ways to win, you know, and then
and the times when we didn't play great, when we
didn't find.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Ways really and you had you had a young man
come off the bench. Now I hate to just say
one because it's yeah, game with your quarterback.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Oh JD JD.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
He had a great game. I had a great game,
mister pate can and delivered a touchdown for you didn't he.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Sure did we?
Speaker 6 (02:09):
You know, in about a quarter and a half, Caseon
had about one hundred and forty yards touchdown and then
uh uh, you know we we brought him out, got
a little dan. We thought, you know, hey, we're going
to the playoffs in a couple of weeks. You know,
no reason to get him banged up or whatever. Gives
an opportunity. JD JD comes in, has like one hundred
(02:33):
and forty yards passing and then has about fifty or
sixty yards rushing, some touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
I mean he he bought out, balled out.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
And that's the thing.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
He's worked really hard.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
Great young man, does things the right way, you know,
and that's you love seeing good things happen to good people.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, you know the.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Kids who work hard.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
You know, I say it all the time, Good things
happen to good, good people.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
That's what I just said.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Good things happened good people.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
All right.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
It was a tail or two halfs.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
You you were were you down a half or we
we were down at half?
Speaker 2 (03:04):
That's what I was thinking. Yeah, we won the ball.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
Game, came back and won it defense way great in
the second half, you know, uh, coach, because then went
in there, did a couple of make a couple of adjustments,
you know, moved some guys you know, to some to
some you know, moved them over a little bed, you know,
made some adjustments where you know we'd getting the hip
pocketed and pullers and stuff, and just I thought.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
These a game adjustment.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, these are game.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
Halftime game lesbents. And you know we saw some food
coaching first half. Yeah, we saw some things in the
first half. We were able to we were able to
get some things the second half offensively, coach wagging those guys.
We're able to get some things rolling offensively with awesome
things we found in the first half. And you know,
just halftime adjustments were big the other night. And just
(03:49):
super proud of our coaching staff. Our kids executed, you know,
so really happy for them.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Right, anybody else you want to mention them?
Speaker 6 (03:56):
We mentioned your quarterback, Yes, you got any other guys
we had JJ King had a really good game, had
I think one hundred and twelve yards receiving or something
like that on three catches and touchdown and then we
had uh he had like sixty or seventy yards rushing
and touchdown. So he played really good. You know, the
(04:17):
whole defense side of the ball played well. Receivers played
Goody went up and got the ball, and you know,
I think that you know, our running game looked really good.
Huff had a couple of touchdowns, so you know, I
had a really good had a really good game the
other night.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
So really proud of the.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Guys eight and two. Something be said for that. Cuss
I mentioned that a little bit, but that's we'll take it.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
That's good in this region with our schedule, you know, yeah,
to get the two seed and for us to get
a home playoff game and get opportunity to advance after
this after next week, you know, got a really good
best day of Hills team coming in, but you know,
we get an extra week to prepare, so we've we've
had really good practices this week, So looking.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Forward to it.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Before I go any furthers, that eight and two is
with graduating a whole.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Lot of players last year.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
Yeah, we had like a lot of good ones, had
a lot of good senior players that were.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Really good and one leaving and one leaving early.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
Yeah, and the junior that left early ain't too bad
and like them all Americans, So that was a.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Pretty good run, all right. So yeah, playing a team
you played already, but Stay Hills first round of the
playoffs next week at uh at at Duck, Samford at
the Duck. So tell me a little bit about playing
a team twice. You know they always talk about that. Yeah,
do you mind?
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Does it?
Speaker 7 (05:35):
No?
Speaker 6 (05:35):
No, it just it just you know, you're kind of
familiar with them. You know, we played them last year.
We got them last year, they got us good this year.
So you know, I'm telling our kids, you know.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
All all week.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
You know, we get an opportunity that you usually don't get.
You know, you usually don't get to play a team
in the second time and get an opportunity to to
you know, uh right or wrong or how say it,
you know, but we get an opportunity to play them
again and see if we can see if we can
get on the other.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Side of it.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
This time.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
They've gotten better, but you've gotten better to yes, yeah,
soon they've gotten Yes, they think they have they have that.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
You know that region up there is brutally too, and
they've got it They've got a really good group of guys.
Their quarterbacks really good, got two good running backs.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
You know.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
Defensively, they're solid. Nobody scores so much points on them.
I mean, they don't make mistakes. That's the big thing
about them. They'll get you in the special teams game
if you're not if you're not careful, you know. So
this is one of those games where, you know, usually
a lot of games we go into with a little
edge in that special teams. You know, they've got a
really they're really good special teams wise too. So uh,
(06:43):
you know, we gotta we got to be sharp in
all three faces.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
That last game. I just remember it was like they
just hit you so early and often early.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
We got down twenty eight nine. It had to be
like that.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
That had to be a.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Big part of it was we got it well, I said,
they got it down to the thirty five forty yard
line and we had them like third and six or
something like that, and had to stop and got a
personal foul penalty. The guy flat bactus and we were
getting up and we pushed the guy off and the
rest sees us and we get a fifteen of our penalty,
(07:16):
you know, which gives them a first down, which you know.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
You can't drive killers.
Speaker 7 (07:21):
Yeah, you can't do that, Libray, Yeah yeah, it kept that.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Drive going for them.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
They end up scoring two plays later, you know, So
you can't you can't give those guys second chance opportunities
because they are really really good and they, like I said,
that region up there is like all ready. I mean
it's brutal. You got really good football teams that didn't
make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
So I wonder if how many of those other teams
went outside of our two regions if you really look
at it, because.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
It stinks that we have to match up with each that.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
You know, that's what to change. You can't. It's not
a perfect world, you know what I mean, you can't
pair it up like it's not. I didn't see anything
wrong with them before, you know, I didn't need to
really coach. There is a couple of people that grit
and that you know what, coach Savy's always used as
a term unintended consequences. This is an unintended consequence of
what happens when you make a change and you don't
(08:14):
see it all the way through. Because one side of
that brackets pretty pretty tough yeah, yeah, I think it's
a bracket. Gern Shine Jern is pretty sporty of whatever.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
The other sides you got, you got Thompson and that's
the side you're on the other side. No, my bad, Okay,
you still got into it.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
And no, yeah, yeah you do, you like it, But
I just meant, but I meant that Thompson group on
the other side is a Gaunt.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
Who plays central first round. That's like last year Super
second Round we played who I think we played Thompson.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
You did, you did, right?
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:48):
Right, you know I thought that should should be later.
So see, you know, but you know it is what
you gotta beat everybody.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
You got to get everybody to get there.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
And you your players, how they you were on there
feel this morning when your team boys, when you had
when you call the show, they've seen his spirited from listening.
So you tell me how.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
I've had three great days, really good days of practice
this week, so really excited.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
You know.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
I think that.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
Tomorrow will come in in the morning, you know, doing
first block and do a little practice and then I'm
gonna give them all Friday and then we'll come back
in Sunday do our walkthroughs. Do our film study stuff
and we've been we've been on the board a good
bit this week, so you know, hopefully we'll look good
and Chris and be healthy on the board.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Explain like just talking talk talking, I know if that
meant something.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
You recognition all that's got it. So it's you know,
been in the film room all right.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Coach, Thank you, enjoy your week.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Thank you all. Guys.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
You're going scouting? Are you all go tigers? Oh, we're
gonna we'll probably go scouting. I hear you ready to
turn the NFSS. There you go, get on to you go,
get on to your coach after that's the bowling gun again.
That's right coach Keith, the Auburn High coach, not bowling.
That's his why they got the big match going on
today too. We're at the Coaches Show at Moe's Barbecue.
(10:04):
We're gonna take a break and continue with more coaches
on a cool Chris evening from moles.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches Show. We're
coming to you live from Mole's original Bardy to you,
and of course it's brought to you by the Ortopede
Clintic Freddie Dean Funeral home and Gory's Furniture Express. And
next up is Utile High School's coach Michael Corson.
Speaker 8 (10:23):
Coach afternoon, how y'all doing good, good good?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
All right? Hey, last week a tough one.
Speaker 8 (10:29):
Tough one.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Uh was that that was a home one. It was
a home Randolph County Region game. Uh. You know, they
play physical, random football and they.
Speaker 8 (10:38):
Do they do. They lined it up and rand it
out as we have tough time stuff and number two,
you know, one of them nights that you know, most
physical team wins. And that's what I told these guys
that they were more physical than us. And you know
number two is hard to bring down. So it is
what it is. And you know, you us that and
(11:00):
move on the next one. And now we're playing for pride.
You know, it ain't no playoffs involved to get these
seniors going out on a high note. Let's build a
let's you know, go into off season with a victory
and give something to build on for these young guys
and but hopefully sending these especially these three with us
sending them out in the right way. They've done things
the right way for I guess that they've been playing
(11:22):
varsity football. Every one of them for at least four years.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
So we've got stone Stone, they got Tapley in the
back there. Do you want to talk about the game
last week? Was that? You know, I have not seen
him play this year Randall County. I mean I saw
a little bit of film on them, but I haven't
seen him play. And I know they've got some good athletes.
Speaker 9 (11:40):
Yeah, they got they got a big offensive line and
really good back and they just going run it at
you and just keep on running it.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Yeah, that's what they do, right, That's what they did
all right? This week you got a Tag Academy. It's
a non region game. Unfortunately, you were eliminated from a
playoff from the playoffs last week after that Tag Academy?
What about? What do we know about them?
Speaker 7 (12:00):
Coach?
Speaker 8 (12:01):
Pretty good? I mean they're they're a good football team,
got a really good back, quarterback, they can throw it,
got guys he wants to throw it too, So you
know it's you know, you gotta I mean I think
there are a two seed in there in their region
for for one A. So we got to go out
there and play football. Like I said, you know, now
it's playing for pride and how we're going to end
this season and send these guys off.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
So and it's at home.
Speaker 8 (12:23):
It's at home. It's tomorrow night, Thursday night game, you know.
I mean we prepared as good as we could with
the rain and all that, and a short week, you know,
that kind of throws a kinkin things too. We were
only outside one day.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
What do y'all do when it's rain?
Speaker 5 (12:41):
What do you what?
Speaker 4 (12:41):
What?
Speaker 3 (12:41):
What's the alternative?
Speaker 8 (12:43):
We go up into the gym, do some you know, Yeah,
it's just storrdy to do stuff in there. You know,
we got it's kind of like a walk through. You know.
We go in there and it's really hard to you know,
hit on each other in that small gym. I mean
it ain't small, but you know it's on a basketball court.
You know, we ain't get a lot of room to
ye No, we ain't throwing the ball around in there,
(13:04):
you know. So that was tough. We did that, you know, Monday,
and then yesterday we got outside and then today again
it was you know, raining and mush, so but today
was a walk through. Anyway, we went up top and
did our walk through and hit some keys and get
ready for you know, putting the little final touches. On
what we want to do with a TAGA and you
know tomorrow do the same thing and go back out
(13:27):
there and see we won a game.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Uh physically, how'd you come on the Randall County game.
Speaker 8 (13:32):
I mean we're fine, we got I mean, everybody's playing.
Everybody's gonna be all hands on deck. We ain't missing
nobody every Yeah, everybody stayed healthy. You know, like I said,
it was a physical football game. But you know we
stayed healthy for the most part. And be ready to go.
I know, we got got ten. We started with twelve,
we got ten. Now, all three of these guys are seniors.
(13:53):
So like I said, they've been with us for four
years and you know, they helped lay a foundation that
got us into the plays back to back years. And
you know, I'm I probably don't tell them enough, but
so proud of them, blessed and blessed to coach them
and love them to death. So these three dudes with me,
you know, they kind of you kind of grow on you,
you know what I mean. You've had them before, at
(14:15):
them forever, you know, and two of them played baseball
with me when I was a baseball coach, So you know,
you've just been around.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Them a long time.
Speaker 8 (14:22):
How many how many years have you been to you
since twenty eighteen.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
So we're looking at this is like year number.
Speaker 8 (14:28):
Yeah, yeah, eight yeah, something like that.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Because this will be twenty five six school years. So
if yeah, you've been that wild.
Speaker 8 (14:35):
Yeah, I've been there a little bit now high Yeah. Yeah,
that's what I'm saying. Get at your relationship with his kids.
You know, Like I said, there's seven other seniors just
going and walk out there for the last time of
tomorrow night, you know, and we know all them guys.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
You know, so well hopefully they'll walk out with you.
Speaker 8 (14:51):
That's what we hope. I see, I'll wait, I won't.
You know. The last year, the last two years are
week ten upon on it last year, it was a
taga year before that was where you've been, and we
just you know, we didn't well, we had a playoff game.
We knew we had a playoff game, but we just
didn't play good in that Week ten game. So I
(15:12):
want us to go out playoff game or not, you know,
I want to go out. Let's let's end it the
right way too, you know, Let's and you know, play
as hard as you can leave it all out there,
and that's what our devotion today from Paul Dunbar was,
you know. Yeah, he came out today and he comes
out there most wednesdays him and saw your was you know,
(15:33):
talking about these guys and you know what it means
that last time, you know, and leaving it.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
All out there.
Speaker 8 (15:38):
So you know, I just I hope they go out
there and play hard and we can put them in
positions to win the game.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Ye, seniors, how do y'all?
Speaker 4 (15:46):
How do you?
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Are you all ready for tomorrow night?
Speaker 4 (15:48):
And then we're excited?
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Short week though, sure way to get ready for for this? Well,
so you guys are ready, tap to you ready to.
Speaker 8 (15:56):
Get Let me slide it, Let him slide in here
and talk.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
I mean, it's your last game. You got our TAGA Academy.
This is a game y'all can win, right, yes, sir,
you feel like you can win?
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Yeah, we met, we met, swell with them.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Okay, Well, hey you want to go out of winter?
You know, good luck to y'all. Want I hope you
I mean, I guess you got you're excited? Is this
was last week's senior night of this week senior night,
So ten of you guys are gonna play football for
the well high school football for the last time. Good
luck to y'all. Was a win that game, I really did.
I certainly good.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
We're ready to play and.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
I believe you.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
I believe you are. Hey, that's Budle of High School.
That's at Stone Pagro Tapley coach Coursing. We're gonna take
a break and we'll be back with spring Wood right
for this.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Good luck.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. It's
Jeff Sassy, Dmont Mitchell, Jason Earl Lee and we're coming
to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. And of course
our sponsors are the Orthopedic Clinic, Frederick Dean Funeral Home,
and Gory's Furniture Express. And next up Springwood head coach
coach Joey Burch. Good afternoon, coach.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
How are you man doing, grudt?
Speaker 3 (17:03):
How about y'all? It's good to see how you being?
Speaker 10 (17:05):
Oh good? Weatherfield's good.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
Finally getting football weather.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Yeah, you know what it is. Finally finally we're out
here sweating yeah. Ten yeah, half the year and then
you know we did it all right. Last week you
had to go all the way to folding oooh that
was a good drive, ye snook Christian. You know they
were playing they were just not just just a year
or two back. They were playing eleven man right.
Speaker 10 (17:25):
This is their first year in eight man football. They
had big six six seven seniors. They dressed about twenty players.
So I had a good little team. Uh We, like
I said, had a good trip down, played well for
three quarters that as well. We played all year, but
we had one quarter where we had a couple of
turnovers and they be just by twelve points, and you
(17:46):
just you know, we just can't win when we you know,
throw interceptions, pick sixes and scoop and score fumbles and
jumped off sides five or six times. So just those things.
We did it all in I think the second quarter
it was, and they kind of jumped out. We won
the second half and played extremely well. So you know,
we've got some hope going into the playoffs that we
can maybe play well.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
Tell me, are you are you all matching up with
a scamby in the first.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Well it depends.
Speaker 10 (18:11):
I hope we don't have to drive that far again,
big big making these fans. Yeah, just solely on the
travel time.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
I understand that. Yeah, absolutely making each is a lot
better trip.
Speaker 10 (18:21):
Yeah, both of them are undefeated, so it should be
a great game. And and we're the eighth place team
at eleven in our conference, so we're gonna match up
with the number one team.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Had a lot of open time. You got to open
week coming up, then you'll start your playoffs. I guess
next week. Yep, yep, all right. Uh what'd you have
like three weeks off last year before?
Speaker 10 (18:39):
Oh yeah, that really hurts us mel View, Yeah, forfeited
on us.
Speaker 11 (18:44):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (18:44):
And and they were the eighth place team, and we're
kind of in the same boat. And we know we
got to uphill battle, you know, going to play the
first place team. But we just kind of had a
fun this week. We're putting in some crazy formations and
just trying to you know, throw the kitchen sink at them,
cause we got nothing to lose.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Did you need this time off, though?
Speaker 2 (19:02):
I mean, well did?
Speaker 10 (19:03):
We've been banged up really since we played this game
deft third game of the year, and maybe we'll get
you know, some of our guys back one hundred percent
instead of you know, limping around the whole game. We
hadn't had a buy a week the whole season. So
this is coming at a good time, right before playoffs.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Yeah, so you got some guys banged up. Nobody, have
you got anybody this won't be available for the game.
Speaker 10 (19:23):
Well, we did lose one of our receivers and DB's
early on he broke his collar bone, so he's out.
You know, he's just now getting back to rehal But
we're not going to push it for you know, one
playoff game and get him injured again for baseball, basketball
and things.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
No.
Speaker 10 (19:38):
No, he's a tenth grader. Okay, So uh, our senior,
you know he's playing with a cast. I mean we've
have one that plays a lot. Yeah, uh, he's an
American kid. We have four other international seniors that are
on the team. One plays d line and starts for us,
and others just kind of kicking and right on it
(20:00):
and enjoying the experience of Sure, I've been on tair.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
It's like nothing.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
The first first experience of American football was when they
come to spring Wood.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
They never watching it on TV or anything. No, they
didn't know what it was. Okay, so they got they
got introduced really quick.
Speaker 10 (20:14):
Yeah, they don't watch a lot of it in Brazil,
two of them from Brazil.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Oh no, they're watching I know what they're watch.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
Yeah, but they can kick a ball pretty well, that's
usually the case.
Speaker 12 (20:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Absolutely, I do have a soccer team.
Speaker 7 (20:24):
Right, Oh yeah, we're pretty good.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Yeah, pretty good?
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Sock yeah all right, Well, hey open this week, you
got what you're working some things in trying to hel
up a little bit. Coach. Uh, you don't know if
you're playing Making the Easter or Scamby. It's the winner
of that game, so you play.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Right one of that game.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
It'll be next Thursday night.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
So uh, in the region play each other last game
of the season.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
What just worked out that?
Speaker 7 (20:43):
What?
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Sure?
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Did it?
Speaker 10 (20:44):
If I'm them, I want to play early on instead
of later on.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
But I guess it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Well, you know what traveling, Like you said, traveling to
Montgomery is a lot better trip.
Speaker 10 (20:55):
Yeah, a little a little over hour right out of
hour versus Field.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
I don't know what's actually where it's at, but I
think so Alabama, I know, we know, I do know
where its skin is, Scanbia County is and it's way
on down there.
Speaker 10 (21:07):
Well, last week, you know, our parents, a lot of
them took the kids down. They did a little beach tree.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Up after the game, so it wasn't a bad experience.
Speaker 13 (21:13):
For d.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
In a row. It won't be fun, no, I mean
if you had to pile back on the bus and
drive back that night. Y, Yeah, that's a late night.
Well coach, good luck.
Speaker 7 (21:23):
I appreciate all y'all.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Do y'all next week before the playoffs, we'll do it.
That's coach Joey Burch will spring with Wildcats. We'll be
back right after this with a high school Coaches show.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
And welcome back to Moe's High School Coaches Show continues
on The Kicker d Mark, Jeff Jason, and Van Live.
Don't forget Friday nights open like a football next week,
hood trustle in the playoffs, they're off this week open.
They played no one. Have a nice to Week ten open,
so they will do a little relaxing so open like
(21:56):
a football next week. Don't forget the Iron Course Scoreboard
show Friday night at ten and catch up all the
scores from Week ten, last week of the regular season.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Muchboa.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Coach Brandon Hall joins us.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Good afternoon, coach, Good afternoon, Mark.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
How you doing it man? It is good to see
you comes off.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Yes, sir, a sixty zero win over Pike Liberal Arts
last week to wrap up a seven three year Congratulations, coach.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
I appreciate it, man, thank you, thank you for that.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Yeah, tell me a little bit about who played well
for We came out pretty fast.
Speaker 14 (22:27):
I was starting quarterback kJ Carter, who's been doing just
about everything for us. He was able to run to
open and kick off for about about eighty yards for
a touchdown, and then he scored on the next play
after we got back on offense, he scored a thirty
yard run.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
He played well like always.
Speaker 14 (22:45):
Our defense played very well as well as the callaway
Darian Callaway, our receiver. He caught touchdown pass, so he
was able to get it going offensively. We blocked well
up front, the guys executed the game playing well, and
defense who was able to keep out the end zone.
So we was excited about that was probably of our
guys right the way they played, they played that sight
and so it was. It was a good win, a
(23:06):
good way to close out the regular season and get
ready to get prepared for these playoffs.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Man, talk about that seven and three regular season coach,
that's pretty sporty, man, that's a good job.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Yeah it was, I mean it was.
Speaker 14 (23:17):
It was a pretty good good run at it here
lately we won five in a row, but I tripped
up a couple of times early. We was able to
get it turned around and get it fixed. And the
guys have been thriving. Man, they've been playing together, they've
been playing the team out. Our staff does a great
job of getting these guys prepared to play every Friday. Uh.
The way we practice and the way they organize everything
(23:39):
is it's great. So and the guys they buy into
what we're doing. Uh, they practice hard, they have fun
while they're playing. So I was just excited to be
able to have these boys to be able to catch
a little stride before the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
HP.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
There you go, and you got a week open, coach,
in the importance of this week. Haven't opened before you
go into the playoffs next week? As I mentioned, Sure
I get it right, coach, you're on the road at
Goshen next week as.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
A three seed, Yes, sir, Yeah, go go some next week.
Being the three seed.
Speaker 14 (24:07):
We played them in the spring game actually ended up
in the tie fourteen fourteen. So they're well coached football team,
good football team, great quarterback. I think their defensive back
number twelve least the nation and picks I believe thirteen interceptions. Wow,
well'll fundamentally signed football team. We saw a little bit
of them, but not a bunch of them right now.
(24:28):
So we're just trying to make sure we sharping each
other up, sharping ourselves up, you know, and keep doing
us to get prepared to go to Goshen and try
and get us a win.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Yeah, goshan, talk a little bit about what you're gonna
do between now and then coach with football team.
Speaker 14 (24:41):
Well, we've our weekly schedule by week schedule. We're just
trying to make sure that we're getting better at what
we do. Able to get some walk through stuff done
like we always do.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Practice.
Speaker 14 (24:52):
A couple of days, we lifted weights on like we
always do, trying to keep everything a little normal. But
we'll take somewhere and tear off those guys this week
man freshen them up for the run. Being at a
smaller school, you know, those guys go both ways and
they get work, they wear out a little bit. So
we just want to make sure we can freshen their
bodies up this week, not bang them too much and
having ready to go.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
As how is your team spirit being coach?
Speaker 14 (25:15):
After this season, they've been excited many they bought into
what we're doing, know what we're what we're trying to do.
They're very excited about what's coming up and they love
they love it. So hopefull we can just keep it going, man,
and prepare well and trying to come out of there
with another w.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Look at you losses. You had a tough loss at
least God, yes, sir.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
You know you had a couple of turnovers, you dropped
the passing in you know, you have some things that
could have won that game.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
You had a tough net game. We see how the
net kind of got away.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
Doing that good got away.
Speaker 14 (25:45):
We didn't play well and they did so we had
a trouble stopping a couple of their guys.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
And in real town, I mean goodness, that's a high score, like.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Like I could not seventy Yeah, like the rental football game,
real go go, go, go go.
Speaker 15 (25:59):
Man.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
You scored a lot of points all year.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
Yeah. Yeah, we've been scoring pretty well, so hopefully we
can just keep that up.
Speaker 12 (26:05):
Man.
Speaker 14 (26:06):
You know, it's been fun. It's a good season. A
little bit better than last year. So yeah, like the
guys last last year laid the foundation. These guys are
are now they're balled into the foundation. So so we
just we just enjoyed.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Well that's where you health coach about health wives for
your team.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
That's all.
Speaker 14 (26:22):
We got everybody healthy, man, everybody's ready to go. Everybody's healthy.
Hopefully we can keep it that way throughout this playoff run,
continue to you know, build success and continue to go.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Yeah, I know it's gonna be a ghost for our trip.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
It's ghost about an hour and forty not too far
from Troy. Yeah, somewhere in that area.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Team want to have your legs on them by then
though it's having an easy week.
Speaker 14 (26:42):
This way it should be. Yeah, we just we ain't
doing too much. Last year, we think I think I
might have did a little bit too much and we didn't.
We dropped the ball in their first playoff game. So
I switched it up a little bit this time. Took
the pass off of them.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Good.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
You know, we're still still going out there against some work.
But it ain't nothing.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Coaches, they don't have it by now, that's right. I'm
not I'm not a crip.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
That's a true statement.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Yea.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
If they don't have it by now, they're not gonna
get it right. It's this week eleven, week eleven. Yeah,
they know what's going on.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Yeah, we've been doing when you know what I'm saying.
So you're right. So we tried a million. Get them
sharp million, that's Keith.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Yeah, get them rested, coach. Good to see you man,
Indians going on the road next to me.
Speaker 16 (27:20):
Appreciate you, coach.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
All right, thanks for being here.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
That's poker.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
We'll take a break. Chambers Academies on deck.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Jason Allen.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
We're at Mose Barbecue. High School Coaches Show continues.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
M hm, hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches Show.
Jeff sizel, d Mort Mitchell, Jason lou We're on deck
the Van Riggs. Next up is changing the Academy's coach
Jason Allen, and it's We're live and Mo's Original.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Barbeque on the veranda on a cold night.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Cool the coolist one we had. So it is my coach.
You got game eleven coming up. Let's talk about game ten.
You're the only You're the only coach we got. It's
got to had eleven games.
Speaker 7 (27:57):
Go Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Wow, and we want to be different regularly season skipping.
Speaker 11 (28:02):
Well, we played last week was our senior night played
Bessemer Academy, who we played for the state championship in
twenty four and that was for the region championship and
we won decisively, and we won our tenth consecutive region championship.
So really proud of that. And then the fact that
we're gonna be able to stay at home in the
playoffs is very comforting.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Yeah, it is coach next. This week you got Abbeyville Christian.
You played them twenty nine times all times.
Speaker 11 (28:31):
Did you know that played them a lot and have
done really well against them the last ten years. Now,
this will be the most anticipated Abbyville Christian matchup we've
had in a little probably since twenty fifteen we played
them in the state championship. They are nine to zero,
they're ranked i think third and state. They have an
(28:52):
SEC player on the roster committed to Missouri as a
defensive back, their quarterback. They got several other really good athletes.
So we're gonna have to be ready to play. It's
gonna be a big one and it's tomorrow night. We
will not play on Fridays. Tomorrow Night Thursday night in
the Jimmy Jimmy Stadium. Yep, Jimmy Rain Stadium's name is
(29:18):
his kids went to school Aveue Christian.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Okay, I didn't know that. Jimmy. He's a big sponsor
on the mark.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
So we're proud of that.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
All right, So it ought to be a good trip. Coach,
you've played. This will be the number eleven.
Speaker 11 (29:28):
Yes, we have eleven game schedule. We kind of did
that on purpose. We didn't. We didn't want to play
an off week when we had a very senior dominated team.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
How about that.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
You do you regret it?
Speaker 11 (29:38):
No, first time I've ever done it. I enjoyed. I
don't like off weeks. I do not like off weeks.
It's really hard. It's really hard to get anything accomplished
in an off week. Unless you're really beat up. You
can accomplish healing.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Yeah, I guess. So the McClay game was that one.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
That you filled in?
Speaker 11 (29:55):
It was, Yes, we had a maclay out of Tallahassee, Florida,
and that was all us. Yeah, well down there and
got beat but I thought it helped us, made us better.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Yeah, we know who we're playing in the first round.
Speaker 11 (30:11):
We're gonna We're gonna cross over with Fortdale Academy out
of Greenville, who we've played earlier in the year. Yep, yeah,
we played really well, played really well.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
In fact, Well, you could you play anybody that you
haven't played?
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Yeah, we could.
Speaker 11 (30:26):
Yeah, We've got Southern Academy, Clark Prep Academy. There's several
others on the other side that we have not seen.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Anybody ranked high.
Speaker 11 (30:40):
No, I think I think right now Patrician Academy is
ranked one there in double A and we're ranked too.
I think probably if I had if you had to
put any put put you know, kind of a bed
on it right now, us and Lowndes or probably the
UH playing or two of the two one seeds on
each side. So that would be the biggest chance we
(31:03):
could be the schedule.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Now, coach my bad big Jason had to be a
number one. If with the playoffs system like it is,
you could play some other than the championship game.
Speaker 11 (31:11):
No, no, no, the ones will never play each other
till the championship game in our deal. So right now,
we if we win against fort Dale, will get the
winner of Southern and Bestmer's and UH and then that'll
be the semi finals in the winter that want to
move on.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
To the and it looks like it'll be Lambs Banks Morgan.
That's right, and it's probably gonna be if I had
to guess hood of you at that time, by the
sports you think we're gonna play just I shouldn't do
that to you.
Speaker 11 (31:40):
Now, I'm just gonna play this one game.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
But We're not gonna do that to you. You're gonna
play that one game. I was just gonna give you
a little problem to do a little picking, but we
ain't gonna do that. I was gonna get you to
pick that other side.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
Yeah, let's let's leave out.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
You know, I understand that you're right.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
You're right. He knows that, but he ain't gonna tell us.
He don't want to. He's got an idea.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Yeah, So of your health of your team, been able
to handle this schedule, coach, Yeah.
Speaker 11 (32:03):
It's been good, been good. We've stayed in the weight
room hard this year. I think we've gotten We've gotten
stronger since the begin since the first game, because we
try to lift heavy during the week and uh, you
know this kind of a theory I started a couple
of years ago, and we and we won two state championships.
So we're gonna keep on trying, yeep, on doing it,
(32:24):
that's right. You know, some teams just left to maintain
some lift to get stronger. Some don't lift much at all,
you know. So it's just you know, you got to
make it a priority if you're gonna if you're gonna
get stronger, and you gotta you gotta pusht hard. We're trying.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (32:39):
I fully believe that you win through aggression. You solve
problems through aggression in football. So you know, we want
to be I think the stronger you are, the more
aggressive you are on the football field.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Well that's probably true that, Yes, I believe that.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Are you worried about you guys not having fresh leg
about a chance?
Speaker 11 (32:56):
Well we've slacked off a little bit, yeah, towards the
end of the season. Yeah, you know, but there's been
some game Yeah, but there's been some games where our
starters haven't played but a half too. And so you know,
going in the playoffs, yeah, yeah, you know you want
you want to look your kids to have their legs
under them. From a strength standpoint as well.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
I've heard, you know, I've heard I've heard kickers complain
about you know, they work out with the regular regular team.
I heard this years ago and they were, you know,
doing their squats during the season and alets, we're just
so tired. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (33:26):
I think it's what you get used to. Your body
gets used to lifting weights, you know, and adapts.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
You just can't.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Yeah, you stop and go back when you get sore
and get you know, that's right, it's not working right.
So everybody's doing the same thing. It doesn't matter what position,
that's right.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (33:44):
Yeah, we did the same same lifts all the way
through the team. We're a pyramid based lyft, so you know,
we go from a lot of reps and the lower
we get, the heavier the weight. But we try to
squat twice a week, and we try to go for
body twice a week, and we do another type of
leg exercise.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
One days a week. Are you working out? Is it
Monday through Thursday? Okay? All right?
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Tell me about Abville Christian coach.
Speaker 11 (34:10):
Yeah, Abbyville Christian's nine and oh the best team they've
had in the wall I was telling. I was saying
while ago, they have a kid that's committed to Missouri. Uh,
he plays quarterback for him. He's committed as a defensive back,
and uh, he is just really electric. I mean he's
I've got up cows my whole life when my dad,
(34:31):
we've we've always had cows and stuff. You know, you
want to give him in a catch pin and you
gotta you gotta have to make sure you've got a
good fence and everything. And we're gonna have to round
this boy up like we're getting up a caf out
of the field. I mean, he can get out of
a lot of stuff, you know. You know, sometimes you
think you got that cave caught, and he'll see that
(34:51):
little cracking defence and he'll hit it.
Speaker 7 (34:53):
You know.
Speaker 11 (34:53):
That's kind of how this kid is. So we're gonna
have to contain their quarterback. And of course you always
got to stop to run, make people one dimensional. And
then offensively, I think we'll be successful. You know our
y'all watched us play. We're gonna come right at you. Yeah,
and we're gonna be physical. So we got to make
sure we take care of football and execute, and I
think we'll be able to move the football and keep
(35:14):
the clock running.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
So they're unbeaten.
Speaker 11 (35:18):
They are unbeaten.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
I know that'll be interesting. I'll be he's loving that.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
That's right up his alley. Yeah, bust that chop.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
There you go, Good Sea coach, he likes I know
he does.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
You know they get all excited.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
And then they leave and they go, we done got rebelized,
Good Sea coach. Thank you, Yes, sir.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Good look Jason.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Allen Chambers Academy at Abbeyville Christian at Jimmy Rain Stadium
Friday night. We'll take a break, come back it Mose Barbecue.
High school coaches show rolls along at least got Academy.
When we come back in Boureguard. We're back at Moe's
Barbecue outside where it's cool. On this Wednesday evening. D Mary,
(35:58):
Jeff Chasing and band bring you the Coaching Show week
ten or shows brought to you Frederick Dean Funeral on Incrematory,
Jeff Coach, Trent Funeral. We appreciate everybody. We also we
also appreciate those barbecue and uh, of course mos Mo's
and our good folks at Gry's Furniture right Borg War
Coach Sannon Motley, George.
Speaker 16 (36:19):
Are you no I'm doing good good the other night? Yes, sir,
go ahead, Jason.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Hey, they are a great man. Got you in the playoffs, Coach,
you didn't have to. You didn't have to depend on anybody,
that's right.
Speaker 17 (36:32):
And then if if we wouldn't have, we we'd have
been we'd have been out, you know. But we we
came and man, we were focused and you know we
I don't know, we focused all day long. And and
those guys, you know, it's a it's a big rivalry game,
you know that boy Garden Valley is always it's it's
(36:54):
always it's always a rivalry game. And we showed up
and like I said, we were focused, and you know
we did we did some things right. Defense played played
lights out, you know, but offensively, you know, we moved
the ball when we needed to.
Speaker 16 (37:11):
We we handled the ball, managed the clock, and you know, came.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Out with a win. All right, Coach. This week he
got Russell County. Another good team. Man, there's six you're
bumping up a class. There're two in their region was
Pike Road.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
We got a pretty good quarterback. He's pretty consistent with
his passing.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
Man.
Speaker 17 (37:31):
He they they're astact all all over the field. You know,
they got a good receivers, good running back. Uh, like
you said, quarterback man, he's he's got he's got a
good arm, he's accurate defensively, they they're fast, They're big
and fast, bear in the bear athletic on both sides
of the ball. They're well round the team, well coached team,
(37:56):
you know. So we're gonna have to show up again
and and be focused again. And and you know, we
just got we we have to play our game, you know.
We we can't get I don't know, we can't get
discouraged and you know, something goes wrong or anything. We
gotta gotta keep playing, keep grinding interesting.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Second game in a row from a team from that
other region in sixth A right, you know what I mean.
You play valley and in Russell County.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Your team Valleys in their valley regions game your region.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
That was a bad statement in our region, that's right.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
What we gotta do against them, coach of seven or
eight minute possessions.
Speaker 17 (38:34):
And yeah, they uh keep them from having the ball,
like like you said, because they can.
Speaker 16 (38:44):
They can score off a drop of a hat, you know.
Speaker 17 (38:46):
And they throw a good deep ball throw, they throw
good screen passes and like I said, they're they're running
backs good and you know, they're they're they're good all
round team and their record speaks for itself, you know,
and they played some good football teams.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
You know. We we just have to.
Speaker 17 (39:06):
We got a man up and uh and get better
and continue to get better and and and and and
I think that the teams like this is good for
us to play, you know, because it gives us a
measuring stick of where we need to be really, you know.
Speaker 16 (39:22):
But so we we just got a short and place.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
We do know you're for seed and we know who
you're playing. You know, we'll talk about north Side next week.
You know.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
That playoff. Getting in the playoffs, it's big.
Speaker 17 (39:34):
It's very big for us, you know, especially the way
things started out this year. We started out real slow,
you know, and you know, and and then like you said,
you know, we we were we were thinking about depending
on somebody else to to win, hopeful to beat Marlbury
for us to get in and then or we had
to beat Valley, you know. And so the guy stepped
(39:57):
it up and and and did what they needed to do,
said to overcome that, you know, help coach, and that
didn't that wasn't gonna happen anyway, because Mary beat hole,
you know, so.
Speaker 16 (40:08):
So we we we had to handle our business and
they did, you know, and we we we came out.
We came out with a win.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
Good deal.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Coach, good players before we go, your players health, okay,
coach this week?
Speaker 17 (40:22):
Yeah, quarterback he's banged up a little bit, his arms,
arms a little banged up and uh but you know,
the rest of us all around just just some bumps
and bruises and things. So you know, for the most part,
we we we we're kind of healthy. But you know,
having any quarterback out, that's that's that that can that
(40:45):
can be rough on you.
Speaker 12 (40:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Yeah, absolutely, Well you got this week and then you've
got playoffs, which you got to manage next week more
than this week. I know it's about this, right, but
you gotta get in the playoffs starts.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
Good to see coach, congrats, congratulations, good luck, Thank you, sir.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
That's Shannon Mommy head coach at the Hornets. We'll take
a break at moles will come back.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
I believe.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Lee Scott is on deck from Moe's Barbecue High School
Coaches Show.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. We'll
coming to you live from Moe's original Barbecue. It's brought
to you by the Orthopedic Clinic, Frederick Frederick Dean Funeral
Home and gold Ree's Furniture Express. And next up is
coach Buster Daniel at LEAs Scott Academy coach.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
How are you, man, I'm wonderful. How about you?
Speaker 3 (41:29):
A good win last week against bb Comb where you
had to go to so the first time you played
that field?
Speaker 9 (41:33):
Right, well, the first time at least Scott Okay, I
think you know what I think? No, I think I
went there when I was coaching. The valley we played,
I was past that.
Speaker 3 (41:41):
I've never been inside of. It looks good outside, It's.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
A beautiful STADIU. Yeah, beautiful feel looks really good.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
Yeah uh you know talk about that when Brisley coaching.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
Yeah yeah, I mean it was. It was a good
win for us.
Speaker 9 (41:51):
I mean, you know, BBA combers down a little bit,
he had a few injuries, but you know we what
we did is we came out and did what we
were supposed to do. You know, we jumped on quick,
which is what I was looking for. You know, we
had played with them three weeks so looking for a
fast start. Offensively, Dean has been playing pretty well but
you know, offensively, we were looking for a fast start
and you know we got it. Uh the first five
(42:12):
possessions we scored, did a lot of good things, throwing
the ball, run the ball through all. You know, Brooks
had a good night again. Max had a good night
throwing the ball. The offensive line is what really stood
out to me. You know, they had to prove something
from the previous game, and you know they did that.
They did a good job up front. We was able
to control the ball and uh, I got to play
(42:33):
a lot of kids. I think everybody on the sideline played.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
So it was a good night for us. You know,
good trip and UH did we were supposed to do.
So proud of them.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
This is the first time trip for you right here though,
the real town.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
Yes it is.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
This week you got real time non REGI game. You've
already locked up a number two seed and you'll be
playing Hale County in the first round.
Speaker 9 (42:50):
That's mam, right, that's right exactly. I didn't have any
clue where it was. I had to look it up,
did you I had to look it up to now?
I do know they had the state uh cross country
meet up there every year.
Speaker 4 (43:02):
Really, I believe well, I've never run in that for sure,
but I had neither.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
But I know the habit. Then that's what they happened
they do. I guess it's because it's got the mounds.
You have to over the heels and all that.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
I just kind of like you you see me running,
somebody's chasing ye that I'm not I'm not doing that.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
Yeah, that's right right, Real Town this week, coach. They're
a good team. Oh absolutely, they uh been a good
team for a while.
Speaker 4 (43:22):
I've been a good team.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Everybody knows who Real Town is.
Speaker 4 (43:25):
I mean they're a.
Speaker 9 (43:25):
Finished state champions two A lost a few kids last year,
but they still got a lot of athletes all over
the field. They're really good offensively, you know. Uh course
Johnson estabfed does a great job that. You know, they
run multiple multiple formations. They go wishbone, they go I
they gonna go spread. I mean they do all kinds
of things that we had to prepare for. So and
now I said, they got athletes all over the field,
(43:47):
got an outstanding quarterback. They can just flip the ball
sixty yards with no problem. You know, he's an outstanding
baseball player. Really really good football team. You know, we
got a hands full. We prepared though, I mean, we've
had a good wee. You know, we just got to
go play now. You know, nobody outside of our circle,
our our our coaching circle, and football circle, our our
(44:07):
locker room.
Speaker 4 (44:08):
Thinks we have a chance, which is the way I
like it. You know, I like being underdog. We just
got to go play. There's no pressure on us.
Speaker 9 (44:15):
The biggest thing we're looking for is that is to
play well and come out healthy and get ready to playoffs.
Speaker 3 (44:20):
Other than the three a few weeks ago that you
had to have that required some surgery.
Speaker 4 (44:26):
Always we're good. We're good. You know, it's just again
that's just the guys that's injured for the year.
Speaker 9 (44:32):
Uh, we're bump bumps and bruises, you know, play nine
games just you're just supposed to be a little beat up.
But now we're fine as far as help, not real
deep and you know, as far as depth, but we're good.
Speaker 4 (44:43):
And once we got are ready to play and and
and healthy, as far as I know, key to.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Winning this game stopping to run. And of course you
know this is a you know, it used to be
all you had to do was stop to run. Now
they got a guy that can flip it out there.
So you do you gotta prepare for that.
Speaker 9 (44:56):
We got to prepare for that. Now, key to every game.
We got to be running football, which which is what
I love to do, is offensive line coach. We don't
to run the football, and we got to stop the run.
You know, they getting a wishbone. Control the clock. It's
hard to stop.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
You know, you got to be a quick strike guy
to make him get behind this.
Speaker 9 (45:11):
You don't prepare every week for the wishbone, and when
you do on two or three days, it's hard, it's sure,
I mean, and then he jumps the wishbone, he.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
Goes to ie, then he goes to spread. You know,
they got athletes out there. It's hard to cover.
Speaker 9 (45:22):
So, uh, we got a hands full, you know, deep
in the staff, he's got their hands full. They've done
a good job preparing kids this week. And uh, you
know we READI justter go play.
Speaker 3 (45:30):
Who should who's your defensive coordinator?
Speaker 4 (45:31):
Jacob Osma.
Speaker 9 (45:32):
I knew that I just needed to trash it for him,
that's right, Yeah, yeah, Okay, good young coach and does
a great job.
Speaker 4 (45:38):
He's really energetic. If you'll watch him on the sideline.
Speaker 9 (45:40):
You'll see that, okay, and offensively you got uh coach
wait Rick Way.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Rick Way, Yep, coach Rick Way. Of course he's coach together.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
Don't like it to we did we coach gother don't
like it.
Speaker 9 (45:49):
And you know I've told before that when I got
the job, at least guy has the first phone call
the mate. He's a he's a good, fine coach, fine man,
loves the kids and uh does a great job for us.
Speaker 3 (45:58):
Coach good luck this week against real Town. This game,
it's a non region game. It really didn't affect where
you're going in the playoffs, but you want to win
them all.
Speaker 4 (46:06):
Oh, absolutely, we're going to play the game.
Speaker 3 (46:08):
We'll go try to win it this when that next
week we'll be talking about hell Count.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
Absolutely absolutely, that's coach.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
Hey, that's UH coach Buster Daniel at least got academy.
When we'll be back after this break, right after this, Hey,
welcome back to the high school coach shows. Jeff Size,
Dee Mart Mitchell, Jason Lee, Dan Riggs, and next up
is Southern Christian coach Jeff Miller rolling ball. Good afternoon, coaches,
(46:35):
how are you all? It's great? Last week you had
Stuart County, Georgia.
Speaker 5 (46:40):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
Uh, had you played them before?
Speaker 5 (46:44):
We play them every year.
Speaker 3 (46:45):
Okay, that's the team you play. Maybe that's where I
know him from. Probably y'all play them, did you? I
may have known them all the way back when it
was when Ballard had an eight man team and Buddy
was coaching. I've heard the name.
Speaker 4 (46:57):
I don't know him.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
Anyway, I'm going I'm going way back. He was the
first eight man coach that I'm.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
Then you're going back as far as when I was
a little baby.
Speaker 18 (47:05):
Now now I wouldn't go that far, but I mean,
you know, Stuart County just started playing eight man about
five or six years ago.
Speaker 5 (47:12):
Okay, yeah, okay, there were eleven man before that them.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
And there's another school that jumps out out of Georgia
and plays over here, and I can't remember Early County,
Early County. They come over here and play Alabama. School's
a good bit anyway, last week he had Stuart County.
Let's talk about that game. Coch final score. Do you
know what it was?
Speaker 5 (47:29):
Forty eight twelve?
Speaker 3 (47:30):
Okay, uh, talk about who did what?
Speaker 4 (47:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 19 (47:34):
Me off to a slow start and then they jumped
out twelve points pretty quick. But then our defense slipped
it around adjusted and which I got to take credit
for six of them because fumble on the offense, they
scooped and scored, So I can't blame out on the defense,
right right, So I gotta take responsibility for that. And
uh so, yeah, I mean defense gave up six points.
Speaker 5 (47:57):
They're early in the first quarter. They adjusted and.
Speaker 19 (48:01):
Made it really easy on me, because just put points
on the board when your defense don't well exactly makes
offense a lot easier.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
All right, right, first round of the playoffs coming on,
and we got East Central Home School and you're at
it's gonna be at Southern Cristos, so it'll be at
More State More Stadium.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
Where are they located?
Speaker 3 (48:22):
Where's the East Central Homeschool?
Speaker 4 (48:24):
Moody?
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Moody? Okay, you know I'm not that's one I'm not
familiar with up.
Speaker 5 (48:30):
There around Birmingham area.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
Yeah, I know where Moody is, but I'd never heard
of the school. First time I've heard of them. What
do we know about him?
Speaker 5 (48:38):
We played him earlier in the year.
Speaker 19 (48:41):
They are they got a really good wide receiver, a
young quarterback who does have a hard time finding him.
I think he's just an eighth grader playing quarterback, So
I mean put pressure on him. Make sure you know
the wide receiver can't catch. It should be just fun.
Speaker 3 (49:01):
Okay, offensively, what are we gonna do just the same
what what we do every week?
Speaker 5 (49:06):
Run it, run it, run it right down their throat.
Speaker 3 (49:10):
Okay, we're good. I'm glad to hear that. How your
health wise? How are we after these this long season?
Speaker 19 (49:15):
Well, this was our first game back from a bye,
so we were able to rest some guys up. We
ran them pretty hard yesterday and the day before, so
they get today. We take Wednesdays off and so they
get today to rest. Tomorrow, we'll walk through and they'll
be ready to go off Friday.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
So yeah, I haven't lost anybody yet this year.
Speaker 19 (49:39):
We lost uh yeah, I mean we lost one of
the offensive linemen, Tucker Webb. He should be back for
Panama City when we go down to Nationals here in
a couple of weeks.
Speaker 5 (49:53):
And then uh, we lost another one, another young kid,
and they are oh we lost Luke this week.
Speaker 19 (49:59):
Ye, Luke wrist surgery. We lost him this week, Luke red.
We'll miss him.
Speaker 4 (50:06):
Overall.
Speaker 5 (50:07):
I mean, yeah, we were staying pretty healthy.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
Could you give me the name of your league one
more time.
Speaker 19 (50:12):
Our as Alabama Christian Sports Conference.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
Good deal, and uh, you got the playoffs this week?
You got East Central Home School. They'll be here. We
gotta travel. Let's talk about the playoff the format for
the Alabama Christian Athletic Conference. What is the highest the
playoff is it?
Speaker 19 (50:38):
See, we're the only conference. So top four teams make
the playoffs. Top two seeds host, and then the top
seed next week I'll host.
Speaker 5 (50:50):
So we're hoping an evantage.
Speaker 3 (50:51):
So we're in the state championship game the second week, okay,
and then we're going to Nationals in Panama City.
Speaker 5 (50:57):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (50:58):
Have you already been to that?
Speaker 5 (50:59):
We went last year?
Speaker 3 (51:00):
Okay, I know you that.
Speaker 18 (51:01):
Yeah, we were hoping to get to play them last year.
But yeah, I know, yeah, it just didn't work out
in the brackets. Okay, we should have been pretty evenly
matched last year.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
Hey, we'll good luck this week and hopefully we'll be
playing it. We'll be talking about a state championship game.
Speaker 5 (51:14):
Hopefully that's what we're going for.
Speaker 3 (51:15):
All right, Good deal, ess coach Jeff Miller, Rolling bell is,
that's a Southern Christian. We're gonna take a break and
we'll be back right after.
Speaker 18 (51:25):
W kk R Auburn Opalik is League County's Best Country
ninety seven point seven kicker FN and iHeart Country Station.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Hey, welcome back. You listen to the High School Coaching
Show and we are live from Moe's Original Barbecue and
we're every Wednesday during high school football season all the
way through the playoffs for all the teams that make it.
I think we got twelve coach twelve teams that come
to our am I right earl twelve teams regular team.
We had seventeen last week, and twelve of them playoff teams.
(51:59):
That's all about it. And you're one of them. I
am one of them. And we got coach Dealing Riggs
with Russell County High School afternoon.
Speaker 12 (52:06):
It's always good to be here.
Speaker 3 (52:07):
Had chicken today, man, I had to swap it up.
Speaker 12 (52:10):
Well last week, if.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
You win, you're gonna beat chicken till well, let me
tell you.
Speaker 15 (52:13):
What they did to me last week. So I got
the Cowboy nachos with the pork, but they put some.
Speaker 12 (52:18):
Chicken on there.
Speaker 3 (52:20):
I noticed that.
Speaker 15 (52:20):
So as I was coming over here, I was like, well,
technically I had some chicken last week, so we might
as well just you know, it's in either or decision.
Speaker 3 (52:30):
Okay, I got you.
Speaker 12 (52:32):
Someone have wings for the next three nights.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
I hear you, I hear you.
Speaker 5 (52:35):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (52:36):
All right.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Last week, coach you had Rehobe, had to travel to Rehobe.
We talked about that a little bit. That was a
kind of similar set up. You know, they're county school
out in the middle of nowhere. Well I wouldn't say
the middle of nowhere, but we love them out there
by theirself. Yeah, you know they'll stand alone. You know
they're out there, and but you won forty nine twenty.
(52:57):
Let's talk about that one brief, you know.
Speaker 15 (52:59):
And you know, I'm from Enterprise right down the road,
so it was nice to get to go back home
for the day. We even went over to Enterprise and
did our walk throughs and we ate it cuts at Enterprise.
Speaker 12 (53:07):
Or I used to eat lunch every day when I
was in high school.
Speaker 15 (53:11):
You know, Coach Green does such a great job. In
my opinion, he is a he is a legend and
really knows his football. I think the kids play hard.
You know, it's just kind of a tale of you know,
I think we were just a little bit too big
at that point. We you know, we scored forty nine
points and seventeen plays on offense riggings through four touchdowns.
Chris Lucas ran for two twenty eight and he eclipsed
(53:33):
the thousand yards, so we got a thousand yard back
this season. Defense did really get in the first half.
It was forty nine to six, and so we kind
of started working some different stuff and Lark started letting
the young guys kind of get some playing time, and
so they kind of, you know, they kept the starters
in and worked with you know, their seniors need as
much playing time as possible so they can you know,
make memories.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
And do whatever.
Speaker 15 (53:53):
So you know, we kind of worked some stuff and
had a running clock in the fourth quarter. They obviously
scored I think fourteen more points on us. In the
second half, we didn't we didn't score. My OC was
so mad at me because I put like a bunch
of restrictions on him in the second half about how
he could or could not sure. I just wanted to
see what we could or could not do with the
like we put the backup quarterback in from the start.
(54:13):
He's a ninth grader right now, and so I just
kind of wanted to see how he would handle the.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
More quarterback Riggings. Is he a senior unfortunately? Okay, quick question?
What was his stats? He's usually like seventeen for nineteen
or eighteen for twenty. I mean he's pretty What is
his completion percentage rate this season? Do you know that?
Speaker 11 (54:30):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (54:31):
Well, our stats guy has it updated on my.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
Know I talk about him, you know, I didn't mean
to put you on the spot. I just like to
so I know he's very efficient with his past.
Speaker 12 (54:39):
I do know he's like four hundred yards away from
eight thousand and three years.
Speaker 3 (54:43):
Wow.
Speaker 12 (54:44):
I think he went six or seven for ten for
right at two hundred yards.
Speaker 3 (54:49):
Sbad of had a couple of drops, right U yep,
a couple drops.
Speaker 4 (54:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (54:54):
You know, Rison is just so together with everything he does.
He's so consistent, you know, and I say this as
a joke. I don't even think I've even seen the
kids sick, if that makes sense. Like he just nothing's
gonna get him to shut it down. So Riggins is
one for two twenty one, uh, sixty four point seven
(55:15):
percent completion. He's thrown twenty four touchdowns this season. So
just you know, last year he threw forty. Right now
he's at twenty four. So just the last two seasons.
Right now, you're at sixty four touchdowns thrown. You know,
Famus looking at him right now. We're really excited for him,
hoping that kind of goes through. And then we had
Jamari Burnette and one of our receivers commit to Alabama
State and another kid commit to Gardner web Thiss, you.
Speaker 12 (55:37):
Know, in the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 15 (55:38):
So, but the kids play good, I mean, you know,
and to see the young guys when we played in
a lot of sophomores and freshmen in the second half,
and so you know, like you got to gauge, like
how are they looking versus those seniors and they're not
getting the same work all week looking at that box,
you know, because they kind of run a little bit
like of the wing tea and stuff.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
This is one play away from being a start, right
and you know, and you'll have them next year too, exactly. Yeah,
and you know, we know we'll tell you build depth
playing well.
Speaker 15 (56:03):
We're gonna be young next year and so we you know,
we have a moment to take advantage of sure getting
the Friday night lights to kind of deal out of
their eyes.
Speaker 3 (56:10):
That's the reward for practicing all summer all you know,
it is to play on Friday nights. All right, this
week you got boorgoard. This game is non region it
is you guys have played thirty two times.
Speaker 15 (56:20):
Thirty two times. This will be my third time since
I've been here. You know, good Fall team. Heck of
a game versus Valley.
Speaker 3 (56:27):
It was I mean, you know, they we talked about that.
You know, they could have lost and would have needed
a lot of help, but they could have won by winning.
You know, Lay locked in as a four seed, so
they took care of their own own business, you know.
Speaker 15 (56:39):
And the coach has done a good job. He's kind
of switched the offense kind of to the wishbone, and
so I think in the second half, I think Valley
only touched the ball offensively three times. And so to
be able to effectively hold the ball that long, and
then to hold an offense that that has the ability
to score a lot of points at any given moment,
you know, it was really I tell you this, it
(57:00):
woke us up, like we're not taking any of that lightly.
Speaker 3 (57:03):
Oh yeah, well, I'm you know, I don't know what
his game plan is, but if I was, if I
was guessing, I think it would be something like that.
Very so they would want to hold the ball a
long time, score get points. How to holding the ball
a long time?
Speaker 15 (57:14):
And you know the keys of this this games like
this is scoring and scoring quick and making them get
out of the way they want to play football. And
you know, you get up by fourteen, you know that
game plan will change drastically for them. And so we
gotta we got to work really hard at making them uncomfortable.
But you know, coach has got them playing really hard
right now, all of a sudden, you know, back half
of the season, they've really kind of pulled it together.
Speaker 3 (57:35):
Yeah, how are you healthwives coming out of this uh
this week and.
Speaker 15 (57:38):
Healthy to completely healthy? You are other than the two
guys who tore their acls at the beginning the year.
But we're five games.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
We hate that for them, but I mean, yeah, you
know that you uh you know what I'll just brief
the uh North side is that who you got in?
Speaker 12 (57:54):
No, we got Gulf Shores in the first round, first.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
Round, number four seed at Norris side. That's all That's more. God,
I'm sorry oh so you got you got gul Shores
in the first frame.
Speaker 5 (58:04):
How about that?
Speaker 12 (58:05):
You know, Kenny Edenfield's OC there and he was OCT here.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
You got to go to Gulf Shoals.
Speaker 15 (58:09):
I know they got to come to Seal That's right.
I got to come to Seal and and that's the
one thing. You know, that's a long drive. But you know,
Coach Edinfield is the OC over there. He was o
C at Troy when me and j C were there.
Me and j C were b actually both actually both
worked under coach Edinfield. So it's gonna be kind of cool.
I kind of get to coach against my mentor this weekend,
our next week, and you know, hopefully we can give
him a good show.
Speaker 12 (58:29):
They're they're just so disciplined.
Speaker 15 (58:31):
Yeah, you know, I mean athletically, I think, you know,
we match up really really well, but you know they
are they are gap sound and disciplined.
Speaker 12 (58:37):
And you know, coach Usmis does a good job.
Speaker 15 (58:39):
I mean, think about your the second seed and you
get to go coach, you ended up with Golf Shores
of twenty twenty three five a.
Speaker 12 (58:46):
State champs as a second sea. It's just kind of like, God,
I wish I could have you.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
Uh yeah, yeah, yeah, but all those guys are graduated
now they have it's a different team.
Speaker 15 (58:56):
So uh and you're a different team. We are, we are,
but you know, I mean, it's like what I said
last week. You know, we're always gonna have the mindset
that we're gonna win, and they you know, that's never
gonna change. And you know, we're gonna expect to win
this week and next week.
Speaker 3 (59:08):
You know, I think you you know, if you want
to win, you got to have that mindset you can
win every game you're in. If you go in and
think you can. I mean, you don't need to go
into games thinking that you're gonna lose it. Well, that's
not a good mindset. Well if people don't realize, like when.
Speaker 15 (59:21):
We got here, these these kids are good kids, great kids,
but they were not winners. And so like we were
teaching them how to win, and now we're teaching them
how to win consistently, and it it takes a little
bit of a different edge in my opinion, to get
that mindset there. And so you know, with that, you're
gonna make some people mad, and so people are gonna
think what they think, and then other people are gonna
(59:42):
get it, you know. And you know, we're very much
like Coach Dubos. You know, that was the one thing
I used to love about Coach Dubos. You know, he
wanted us to play with a certain type of edge
and it made certain people really mad and certain people
loved it.
Speaker 12 (59:53):
And you know, I mean, it's just the mentality we're
gonna have.
Speaker 4 (59:56):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
Right. Well, good luck this week against Bulldoor and we'll
be talking about guff Shores next week. Yes, sir, go
while you're eating your chicken. Hey, we'll be right back
with the High School Coaching Show after this break. Hey,
welcome back to the High School Coaching Shows. Jeff Sassers,
the Jason Lee, Dean Martin, Mitchell band Riggs, and we're
coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. We're here
(01:00:18):
every Wednesday from six to eight. Doom Football Season. Deom
Football Season. We'll run from the beginning of the season
through the playoffs. Yeah, you know, and you know we
got twelve teams, you're number thirteen. We got thirteen teams
who are regular on the show that are playoff teams
this year. That's awesome. I know, I don't know if
that's the most we've ever had, but I would venture
(01:00:39):
to say it may be, you know, you know, being the.
Speaker 7 (01:00:41):
Play good Year Freestyle of Mona football.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
Absolutely in West Georgia.
Speaker 7 (01:00:46):
Yeah, that's right, that's right, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
We got coach Midi Grider from Saint Anne Pacelli. Last
week you played Westfield coach he won that game. Let's
talk about that one briefly.
Speaker 13 (01:00:54):
That was a big win for us. They were ranked
I think they're in three, either like number two or three.
They were seven and two coming in, and you know,
they have a good team and they've beaten us the
last two years, and so getting that win is what
we needed to happen to get us the home playoff
(01:01:15):
game in the first round. We moved up from eight
to seven, so we will host this Friday night Loganville Christian.
But it was a great night for really both sides
of the ball played well. Our quarterback played extremely well.
He was only six out of ten, but with two touchdowns,
he's really should have been seven out of ten. We
had a had a forty yard touchdown pass. He threw
(01:01:37):
a beautiful made a beautiful throw and we dropped it. Okay,
but you know, he is really getting better. He's doing
a great job. Dustin Sherman's his name, and he's just
a great kid and has worked really hard, fought through
some tough adversity as far as just you know, playing
the position what comes along with that. And our running
(01:01:59):
game continues to be good. One of our backs went
over a thousand yards Friday night, Donovan Colvin. He had
about ninety five on the night. That's the first time
in about four or five weeks he hadn't been over
one hundred. But Cam Carino or other running back had
about seventy five. So we ran the ball really well,
and defensively, we just continue to get better. I'm really
(01:02:22):
our defense is what's been the biggest improvement on the team.
We were no longer giving up big plays and we're
making people drive the field. And you know how it
is in high school, if you make them go on
those ten twelve play drives and have to, you know,
go seventy five yards, the likelihood of them making a
mistake on their own somewhere in there to stop the
(01:02:42):
drive is high.
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
So you know, christ m krack and used to spit
out this status like if they started on.
Speaker 13 (01:02:48):
That, that's right, I've got that chart somewhere that he
gets that off of that we had back in you know,
in the early two thousands when I was at Opelaika.
Speaker 5 (01:02:56):
And it's true.
Speaker 13 (01:02:57):
It's it's hard to make those long drives like that
without making a mistake and whether it be a penalty
or you know, a player blowing an assignment causing a
negative play or something like that.
Speaker 7 (01:03:10):
And you know, for you know, it is third and
long and you're off the field. So when when you don't.
Speaker 13 (01:03:15):
Give up big plays, you've got a great opportunity to
uh to to force them to punt it back to you.
And we got two interceptions on the night. One of
our corners, Nolan Vaughn, he had.
Speaker 7 (01:03:25):
A big night.
Speaker 13 (01:03:26):
He had two picks and just played well. It was
it was a great night and and uh, you know
we needed that. We needed that momentum that gives us.
You know, we won two in a row. Now, uh,
we're hosting this week and if we win that, uh,
the brackets has set up like we wanted it to be.
We can get back and play some people that uh
that beat us earlier in the year.
Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
Okay, all right, Logansville High School coach, what do they
do well.
Speaker 13 (01:03:50):
Uh, well, they've got an athlete, Loville Christian, I said,
Loganville Christian. They've got an athlete at quarterback. Everything they
do goes through them him. He's their leading rusher and
obviously they're leading passer.
Speaker 3 (01:04:02):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (01:04:02):
He's really athletic. They've got a receiver number two that
is uh, that's their go to guy. So we've got
to defend those two, make sure we don't let the
quarterback and that receiver beat us.
Speaker 7 (01:04:14):
And then defensively, they're a three two team. They play
a lot of oki front and they.
Speaker 13 (01:04:20):
Move a lot, and so we've got to you know,
we just got to maintain possession of the ball and
complete drives and continue to throw the ball effectively, because
as good as our running game is, if we can
make people have to honor our passing game, then we
should be really tough to defend in the run game.
Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
And your quarterbacks getting better every week, right every.
Speaker 13 (01:04:37):
Week, and he's peeking at the right time. And that's
really a low number. I'd like to throw at fifteen
or twenty, you know, But just we've been playing a
little closer to the vest because we're able.
Speaker 7 (01:04:48):
To run the ball so effectively. And you know why
I take chances, you know.
Speaker 13 (01:04:52):
And but the better he is and the more we're
able to push the ball down the field throwing it, uh,
just the better our offense is gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
I'm sure the play there's gonna be a time when
you may have to.
Speaker 7 (01:05:01):
You're gonna have to throw.
Speaker 5 (01:05:02):
That is exactly right.
Speaker 13 (01:05:03):
And we want to make it where people can't just
stack the box on us. And and uh and and
as long as he's completing balls, we've got a good
receiving corps and if he can get the ball out
there to them, they can make plays with it. We
had a we had about a I mean both touchdown
passes were over fifty yards.
Speaker 7 (01:05:18):
So I mean, you know, big plays that we've we've made.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
Through the passage right, Explosive pays make a difference to
you absolutely if you've got guys that can make them.
Speaker 13 (01:05:27):
You know, everybody don't have them, No they don't, and
we do. And in our league, you know, we we
probably have the most most teams have one. I think
we've got, uh, we've got four guys that any four
of them could go to the house on any play.
So you know, that's a that's a big weapon when
you when you you don't have to be that team
that drives at twelve plays to make a touchdown, right,
you can break one of those big rules.
Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
Absolutely, you can have a twelve play drive. But every
now and any want to one or two plays exactly.
Speaker 13 (01:05:53):
Matter of fact, and one of our touchdowns was a
one play drive. It was on the first play of
the drive.
Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
As a fan, I like those two. I like watching those.
Good luck against Logusville Christian this week, first round of
the playoffs. We'll be talking next week about whoever your
next opponent is it is. You got a good idea already.
Speaker 7 (01:06:11):
Oh yeah, the brackets are drawn.
Speaker 5 (01:06:12):
We know who it'll be.
Speaker 3 (01:06:13):
Okay, good deal. Alright, that's coach Smitty Grider with Saint ANICHELLI.
We're gonna take a break and we'll come back with
Lynett High School is R. J McDonald.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
And welcome back to mos Barbecue High School Coaches show,
rolling right along. Jeff has done an admirable job tonight
taking over the rains. I'm gonna give him a plus.
Were talking the net football tonight. Our show is brought
to you by Frederick Dean Funeral Incrematory, Gorg's Furniture Express
and the Orthopedic Clinic are good friends at Mos Barbecue.
We encourage you to visit Most Barbecue. They got two
(01:06:47):
locations in downtown and one right here in ben Creek,
both in Auburn, and we appreciate Ricky Carmack with us
and the fine folks here at Mos Barbecue. Van Riggs
Jason has been helping out Jeff. As I said, I'm
de Mark coach r J McDonald jones just with it
than net Panthers. He is thirteen and eight and two
seasons eight and two this year got him a forty
(01:07:08):
eight seven win over Ramburn last week.
Speaker 7 (01:07:09):
Good evening, coach, a man, thanks for having me, De Mark, Yes, sir,
good to see you.
Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
Coach.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Good win last week.
Speaker 13 (01:07:14):
But it was a good yeah, absolutely really good win
for us. Tough place to play up there, probably our
longest drive of the year as well.
Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
So it was a it was a good win.
Speaker 13 (01:07:24):
You know, we kind of came out and we didn't
play We didn't start off very good again for some reason.
We got to fix that and that's that's got to
start with me. But you know, we've got to we
got to come out a little bit better. You know,
we threw a pick in the red zone to start
us off. You know, we got to be a little
bit better there protect the football. We can't just be
you know, loose with it. And uh but you know,
(01:07:46):
once that happened, you know, our defense runs out on
the field and they just shut stuff down.
Speaker 5 (01:07:50):
I mean, it's just that's just what they do.
Speaker 13 (01:07:52):
You know, they Uh, I think they gave up probably,
I think I know it was under sixty yards of
total offense all night long.
Speaker 7 (01:07:59):
We had two six is, multiple.
Speaker 13 (01:08:02):
Turnovers, some sacks, tackles for loss. I mean they were
they were lights out again. You know, Coach Cardon, coach Williams,
Coach Webb, uh, coach Smith, coach mckents. Those guys do
a terrific job weekend and week out for us. And
you know we have the number one defense in two
A right now at seven points, I believe, you know,
we ain't given up in today's world. You know, we
(01:08:23):
hadn't given up over twenty. So you know, it's nineteen
to a really good real town football team.
Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
And you know, I think they just see Tony only fifteen, you.
Speaker 13 (01:08:33):
Know, and and and since I've been you know, especially
you know at Lynette. You know, defense has always been
the calling card. You know, Coach Torre was a defensive guy,
and you know, so I you know, I've always been
an offensive guy. But I tell you what, man, I
just love being around that group when they get it,
when they get on that side of the football, they're
they're fun to watch.
Speaker 7 (01:08:52):
They just do everything right.
Speaker 4 (01:08:54):
You know.
Speaker 7 (01:08:54):
I think I said it last week.
Speaker 13 (01:08:55):
We tell them to do something and then I cut
the tape on at eight o'clock in the morning on
a Saturday, and that's what they did. You know, they
did it all night long. And it's just beautiful football
to watch, honestly. And uh, you know, but for us, though,
offensively we kind of got rolling. We threw the ball
really well through for almost two hundred and eighty yards
total and then ran for about one hundred and sixty.
(01:09:17):
So it was a really a fishing night for us.
A little flip there. You know, it's usually been running
the ball for us and throwing has been a little
bit lower. But you know, we really thought we had
an advantage there and we took advantage of it on
Friday night.
Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
Right Well, this week, coach are opened. You don't have
anybody to play you you probably hadn't even looked at
anything on Zion Chapel. Who be your first poem? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (01:09:36):
Yeah, we uh you know we we we kind of
we took a sneak peak, but you know, we really
haven't thrown it at the kids just yet.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
I have done that yet.
Speaker 7 (01:09:44):
Well, I mean, I ain't gonna say we haven't, but
it's probably some folks we eased it in without knowing it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
Yeah, say, man, we was practicing yes week.
Speaker 7 (01:09:54):
Yes, yeah, so that that's the hope, right, But you know,
for us, it's really been about just kind of.
Speaker 3 (01:09:59):
You don't have game this week, so it's yeh, open week.
Speaker 7 (01:10:02):
For us, you know, so we kind of really utilize
this week to to get people healthy.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
You know.
Speaker 7 (01:10:07):
Uh, we're not really hurt or nothing.
Speaker 13 (01:10:10):
It's just that time of the year where everybody's banged
up and you know, especially at two a football, you know,
going both ways, and but you know, we're in a
really good spot. You know, nobody's luckily, we're not missing anybody,
you know. But my thing was we just got to
get some of the you know, you got to get
your horses to the to the race, you know, and
and for us it's it's getting them there.
Speaker 7 (01:10:30):
And we know once we can get them there, it's
it's gonna be a solid night for us.
Speaker 11 (01:10:35):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:10:36):
But you know, it just starts getting getting them there.
Speaker 5 (01:10:38):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
I want to know, I.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
Okay, sovereignty run the British Cups. He wins the second race.
He's in the British Cup passing this weekend, big, big
million dollars races. Million, got a favorite he can't run.
Got to get him to the race.
Speaker 13 (01:10:54):
Tell me, is it the Sticker Brothers, Stickers Stickers bro Yeah? Yeah,
So picture had a really good night. He had a
really good night for us. You know, he's kind of
taking into that number two role running back behind a
really good singer running back. And you know, we kind
of made a little tweak, you know, around the offense
a little bit. We took our our starting running back,
moved him to slot. We had some stuff, you know
(01:11:16):
with the health issues and stuff go on, so we
had to move him there. He's our fastest football player.
And you know, so once we moved him out out,
why that's r J.
Speaker 5 (01:11:25):
Tucker. They got two sets of brothers.
Speaker 13 (01:11:27):
I got the Tucker Brothers and the Sticker Brothers, and
those related but the Tucker brothers, they're older r J
and TJ. But we took RJ and put him out
there and then so it's made us really diverse. We're
able to, you know, get to the edge a lot better.
But you know, once we did that, PJ had to
step into that number two role and he's really taking
onto that.
Speaker 7 (01:11:46):
He's he's actually really impressed us lately. Blocking.
Speaker 13 (01:11:50):
You know, that's probably something you've always worried about with
an eighth grader, but you know, he's he's got the
body for it. He's about five ten and he'll stick
his nose up in there, loves it. He loves hitting
folks and you know why, he's a great safety.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
I love when coach says he loves hitting those guys
and some of you do you just see those guys
on the field they want to.
Speaker 13 (01:12:07):
When when you see a younger kid come out, you
think this is just you know, we're gonna have to
help him get along. And nah, man, this kid walked
up first day you know this this summer, and he
hit the He hit the oldest guy on the team,
you know, who started four years straight. Yeah, and he
and he took it. He took him for a ride,
you know, and so we know we had something special.
But uh, he ran for five times for thirty five
yards and a touchdown. And I know we had I
(01:12:29):
know he had over six tackles. I want to say,
you had eight total. So just a really efficient night
coming downhill. You know, he's got to get a little
bit better than the past game for US, uh, you know,
back there. But his his job is the box safety
and he does a great job of that. So he's
a really good football player. Little brother got into got
a couple of carries, so it's good to see. Yeah,
he almost got it's almost got one hundredyards rushing.
Speaker 4 (01:12:50):
This insane.
Speaker 5 (01:12:50):
I can't believe it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
And I asked this being serious. I know it's late.
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
How's your healthy your football team?
Speaker 4 (01:12:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
Yeah, really good.
Speaker 13 (01:12:56):
You know we got we got one kid is sick.
Don'na lose him for any standing period of time. He's
a singer, he's a starter, Lorenzo true. You know, he's
a really good football player for US. Uh, you know,
but we're looking to hopefully have him back by round two.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
So so he's gonna be out first week.
Speaker 13 (01:13:10):
Yeah, yeah, he's probably gonna be out next week. He's
doing better, so we're just trying to hopefully we can
we can get him there. You know, we're playing on
the long run here, so you know, we gotta we
got to get them all there. But right now, other
than that, I mean, that's it's really it. You know,
got some guys with some hands and some some knee
you know, nagging knees and bruises and stuff. But other
(01:13:30):
than that, really we're in pretty good shape anymore. I'm really,
I'm really Yeah, we do a great job.
Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
You know, James got three of them had surgery, you know,
two weeks three weeks ago, and one day three players
and one nonchalantly asked the question. He goes, well, I
had three got surgery tomorrow, didn't he just.
Speaker 4 (01:13:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:13:49):
I mean you just don't ever know. Yeah, you're right,
you know, and and we're really blessed. I think a
lot of that has to do with, uh, you know,
we're able to sit something guys in the second half.
You know, they're not playing as much football as we
did last year, where they were all banged up right
there at the end of the year and we were
scrambling just to get in and you know, it's just
been a really big, good, really good turnaround for Ustare
And and I had to do a lot of self
(01:14:09):
reflection on that myself, the coaching staff as well, and
we talked about a lot of different things we could do,
and so you know, we decided we were gonna work
them out early in the week, uh, and then Wednesday
through you know, Friday, and we were going ice baths
on Wednesday and Thursday, Uh, Friday, They're gonna have a
huge stretching routine.
Speaker 7 (01:14:24):
So we tried to kind of not necessarily take them,
take a lot of load off of them in the
weight room and stuff. But but we had to make
some tweaks and we did. We did a really good
job at that.
Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
Keeping guys healthy, and you're building depth.
Speaker 13 (01:14:39):
Absolutely, and so you know, for us, we just got
to get like you know, I can say, I can
keep saying, we got to get them horses to the race,
and once we do, we're gonna be in a good spot.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
Five more games, that's the goal.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
And that's a long season.
Speaker 13 (01:14:50):
Five more So that's interesting you say that. You know, Uh,
all these guys talk about it. It's five more weeks,
that's all they say, you know. And and and like
today I gotta say her. He's a he's a really
good football player going to play at Alabama, A and
M defensive end and arguably, in my opinion, he's on
tape the best two A D lineman or O linman
I've seen all year. But Jeremih mcgilberry walked up on
(01:15:13):
the field and you know, we're kind of dragging a
little bit at the start, and he's like, he called
him all up on his own and he told him,
he said, we're trying to get to December fifth, you know,
at four o'clock.
Speaker 7 (01:15:23):
He said, that's it.
Speaker 13 (01:15:24):
That's word about championship. And so you know when when
when your dog sets the tone, all the other ones follow. Yeah,
And so it's been it's been really good for us.
I'm really proud of this group. You know, they've they've
endured a lot, especially since I've been there, and I
just just hoping we can keep it going. And you know,
like like like you said today, get to December fifth
(01:15:44):
at four o'clock.
Speaker 4 (01:15:45):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
R J McDonald.
Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
