and Auburn, presented by the Oorsand feeda Klinting. Now, let's take
you live to Moe's Barbecue, BenCreek and Auburn. Here's d Mark Mitchell
(00:28):
ready, right, and good evening, and welcome to the High School Coaching
Show. It's brought to you bythe Orthopede Clint Moe's Original Barbecue. Where
we're at at Moe's, Fox Sportsa game and Kicker ninety seven point seven
the county's best country music. Wegot coach Rolling Ball from the Southern prep
coach. Last week you had congratulationsanyway, Oh thank you sir by the
(00:52):
way on the win. And youhad metal of You last week same you
had played already, Yes, soyeah, we we played met of you
earlier in the year and we workedon the passing game against because we were
struggling a little in the passing game. So this this time, first round
of playoffs, we're gonna work onthe passing game again and work tonight.
(01:15):
I brought you know our quarterback andour leading receiver, quarterback Kevin Mason.
He kind of went off. Hewas only twenty five out of thirty six,
I believe, but he threw forsix hundred and ninety yards, which
is a state record. No matterwhat classification, public, private, doesn't
matter. It hit the right guys, right, he hit the right gut.
(01:36):
Yeah. He had four different receiversand the lowest total on endium was
one hundred and thirteen yards. Wow. But he passed for six hundred and
ninety and eleven touchdowns, which isanother state record. And then he also
rushed fifty four yards, so wehad a total of seven forty four which
(01:57):
is another state record total yards.Plus that he would ran the ball twice
and won the was for a touchdown, so that's total twelve total touchdowns,
which is another state record in agame. So he kind of lit it
up that he did, and theydid all that, and they were running
the clock midway through the second period. All right, and you you played
(02:17):
defensively, you played who you played, played mostly our second defense and our
JV defense. You know, again, I was not going to embarrass the
other team. Let them score asmuch as they can score. Again,
this is the same team you didthis with earlier year. You used gav
defense and yeah, you scored, you scored a lot of points, but
you were working on some stuff, right, all right, you're in the
(02:38):
semi finals. Now you're in thesemifinals. Got Springwood, Well that's the
team you played. Also probably alittle better than met of you. Right,
oh, quite a bit better.Yes, Springwood is eight and two,
but when we played him, itwas the second game of the season.
That was you know, we're stilltrying to find ourselves and uh,
(03:00):
you know, we made a lotof mistakes, you know, cause at
that point we only had our guyslike three weeks, so you know,
it's hard to you know, naildown a bunch of stuff trying to figure
out who's going to play were andjust work out all the kinks. We
made a lot of mistakes. Andif we can just clean up those mistakes
and you know, play a solidgame, then you know, I think
(03:21):
we stand a great chance of winning. What do you what do you have
to do well to be Springwheel coach? Well, I think offensively, I
think we can do what pretty muchwhatever we want. Defensively, we've got
a himn up number four and youknow, of course their quarterback. You
(03:42):
know, every now and then he'llhe'll hit their tight end. Number thirteen,
but number four runs the show. And if we can shut him down,
then I think we'll be just fine. Is that the guy they get
the ball to most of the time? What just to handle a multitude of
ways. Sometimes they'll line them upin the backfield just a straight run or
you know, a counter. Sometimesthey line him up and wing and they'll
(04:03):
follow him. He'll be a leadblocker, and sometimes they'll line up at
the wing and run a reverse withhim. They release him on passes every
now and then. Okay, right, your quarterbacks here with us. You
want to bring him in, coach, all right, this is Kevin Mason.
Kevin, what a night, whata week? Thank you? What
a week? A game? Thankyou? And so it was over seven
(04:24):
hundred yards total offense? Is thatright? Is that what you come up
with a coach with the rushing gamepass? Did you know you had that
much? Uh? Not really,I was just I was just playing.
I just go into the air game, just playing. Coach, tell me
not to really worry about it.Like before the game, like we would
talk records and stuff. You tellme not to really worried about it.
Go out there and play football. You've been with us before, right,
(04:45):
have you been there? There?I thought? So? Now, how
bad do you want to beat Springwood? You've lost the past two times you've
played, and I know, uh, in this playoffs, I know the
guys have got to be really motivatedto want to come in and take care
of business, especially against the teamyou're very familiar with not too far off
the road. Oh me, personally, I want to I want to beat
them pretty bad. I think theteam's pretty pretty hyped up about it too.
You go to the state championship. How much fam have you watched on
(05:08):
spring Wood? How much time isthere? Okay, it appears as though
they've gotten better as a year.Oh yes, I mean yeah, they're
definitely better. We just we feelthat, you know, we grew by
leaps and bounds, and yes, they got better, as most teams do.
Right. Well, you don't haveto say much to them though.
He get them motivated this way,do you? No? Not really?
(05:30):
Spring Wood playoffs? Let's go right? Yes, it's about like you know
when when I was at Notasoga andwe played lott Cha Pok in the region
championship game. You know in basketball, you know, I usually had this
long list of everything we're going tofocus on. We get down in a
region championship game, and all Irode on the board was poker. That's
all right, Yeah, that's it, all right, good deal, All
(05:51):
right, well, coach, congucongratulations for last week. Good luck this
week against spring Wood. I havea we're gonna have an area team in
the championship. We're working on that. Yeah, yeah, coach, appreciate
it. Thanks so much. That'scoach rolling Bell Southern Prep. Hey,
we're gonna take a quick break.Come back. We're at the High School
Coaches Show Live with Mose Barbecue,Bent Creek in Auburn and UH coming up
(06:14):
next year. Who we got RussellCounty on the way next here on the
Coaches Show. All right back HighSchool Coaches Show Life for most Barbecue,
Bent Creek and Auburn, Dan MartinMitchell working on assignment tonight. I'm Van
Riggs, Lost, Jeff Sasser andUH one programing note tonight. We're gonna
go till seven o'clock here on ninetyseven point seven Kicker FM. After seven
(06:38):
o'clock, we're gonna be switching overand continue on Fox Sports nine ten thirteen,
ten am. The game CMA Awardscoming up at seven o'clock here on
the Kicker, But the Coaches Showwill roll on, and it rolls on
now is We've got Dylan Griggs, head coach of the Russell County Warriors,
and wrapped up your season, coachwith a positive note, gotta win last
week and a big high scoring affair. Congratulations. Yeah, yes, sir,
(07:00):
it was a good game. Itwas a It was great to send
our seniors out like that. Andyou know, it's always interesting when you
hit the off season winning but notmaking the playoffs. Does that makes sense?
And so, you know, tohave such a young team, it
was kind of a great way toend the off the you know, the
season, to hit the off season. It was a great way to send
out the seniors. So it wasn'ttwo of your last three, So pretty
good seniors, coach, I mean, yeah, so we had fifteen total
(07:24):
seniors on the team out of likeright at ninety players. Yeah, and
you played Central Clay County in apretty competitive game. May they handled people
pretty easily. At thirty to fourteen, that's pretty good against that bunch.
Yeah. You know we went intothe game. When we went in there,
the most points they had had scoredall season was thirteen. And uh,
(07:44):
you know, we went in therejust trying to say, hey,
we need to you know, scoreas fast and as quick as we can.
I'll be honest with you now,on the first half, I was
really worried there for a second. You know, that's a that that that
is a very good bunch. Youknow, I don't I don't know in
all my years of football that I'veseen somebody tackle as well essential play,
does, you know. But youknow, we went there and made some
great second half adjustments and you know, got in there and you know,
beat them fourteen to three in thesecond half, seventy five points. So
(08:07):
last week, how you scored seventyfive? You know, we just caught
a little inside zone, you know, a little outside zone. And you
know, I mean, you know, the coaches have e Agreen was a
really good group. They were reallyyoung, like we are. You know,
on Friday night, I think wewent there with thirteen sophomores starting that
game, you know, which haskind of been you know, the tail
(08:31):
since Game two. You know,we walked into Game two, we had
seven sophomores on offense alone. Soevery week since then, you know,
I mean it's just been a younggroup, and you know, we've watched
them just kind of get better everyweek. We lost three out of you
know, we lost three games inthe last thirty seconds this season, you
know, one two out of ourlast three. Lost a fourth one,
you know, due to some specialteam stuff that kind of you know,
(08:52):
took the swing out of our favor. But you know, to know how
easily you could have been six andfour as easily as you were too,
and to know how young you were, you know, it makes you really
excited about all season. I toldsomebod the other day if I could,
if I could just fast forward andget onto August, I'd be really happy.
Well, you brought back at mediadays. You called me during the
summer and said, hey, I'mgonna bring some I'm going to bring us
(09:13):
several ninth graders because there's got tobe some of my big play bakers and
we're just kind of young right now. And you kind of knew that going
into the season, kind of buildingfor the future, right right, Well,
you know, and then and oneof those guys had eleven hundred yards
all purpose this season and the otherone just picked up a Memphis offer the
other day. You know, itwas crazy. I was looking to have
seven sophomores. You know, ouroffense was ranked number twenty four in the
(09:37):
state in six A, you know, and to know how many good teams
are in six A, you know, to know that we were that young
and to have that many people comingback, you know, we're really excited.
And yeah, you know, theseventy five points, we broke a
school record. We also had areceiver hit one thousand yards that night,
and so it was a it wasa special night to break, to break
a record that hopefully will be inthe record books for a long long time.
Yeah, and start the season,I know you had what two three
(09:58):
points losses too, and I knowthat that hurts you, you know,
at this point of the season togo back and would have the should and
could you play here and play theirway from you know, flipping a couple
wins. No, we were youknow Harris County who went nine to one.
They made a field goal in thelast second to win, and then
you know, stand hope we ona on a very controversial call. We
you know, we ended up losingthe game on that and then you know,
(10:22):
Lanier was really close. And theneven with Tumpka, I mean,
we go into the fourth quarter,I want to say, we might have
been up by like a point, but we had missed like six field goals.
Wow. And you know that wasthe standhope game. Our our kicker
he he broke his leg in thethird quarter and so we ended up bringing
our video guy to the press boxduring the season to kick the rest of
(10:43):
our field goals because we didn't haveanybody else. On one day at practice,
he randomly just like kicks a balland I'm like, wow, that's
kind of good, and kick anotherone and then he just shoulder pats are
in the equipment room, go aheadand get suited up. Yeah, you
know, it was a running joke, and we actually we asted because we
didn't have a real true kickoff guy. We ended up on side kicking like
seventy five percent of the time theback half of the season and actually recovered,
(11:05):
like I think my guy told methe other day, like twenty seven
percent of those, which is you'rethinking of onside kicks, that's a pretty
good percentage. Yeah, So youknow, to know you know, there's
a lot of positives. You know, I think in this situation right now,
you have to have a good silverlining. And it's like I say,
every year, we're gonna, youknow, we start the off season
next week and you know, we'llput a picture of a blue map all
over the locker room and we'll darethem to driven big again, and you
(11:26):
know, hopefully this group will beyou know, the change that we needed
to week ten start or how manyof those were coming back next year?
Seventeen, seventeen starts, well, nineteen if you include my tight end of
my fullback okay, twenty fe youinclude my kicker, all right, Well,
reclassification that will be coming up herein December, you'll figure out your
schedule and start getting ready for nextyear, sir, All right, Hey,
Dylan, appreciate it. Coach Griggs, thanks so much for being here.
(11:48):
Thank you, Coach, Thank youguys, Russell County and the house.
It's Coach Dylan Griggs. We comeback. We'll continue with a high
School Coaches Show live from Moe's Barbecueafter this time. Out right here on
the kicker and welcome back to theHigh School Coaching Show. We're right here
(12:09):
at Mold's original Barbecue Live. Coach, did you eat good? Eat good?
It was very good? And youknow, you know chicken, Yeah,
I know chicken. His family isthey on Newts Yes? Yeah,
h this man, no chicken.Hey let me tell you, Hey,
(12:31):
loach, you Poka is known forgood food when you're talking about concession stands,
most definitely. I was just tellingtalking to someone about, Man,
it's kind of hard with us notplaying at home because the concession stand is
like kind of losing out too,for its the cooking food and everything.
A lot of people are missing thatpart of the game. Also. Have
you all been kind of bringing iton the road with you though, hadn't
you a little bit a little bithere like you could not like it was?
(12:52):
Yes, exactly, Yeah, well, coach, last week you were
off, but you finished up ofundefeated season. You beat the I didn't
get to see the Billingsly game, but I did, of course. Everybody
saw them. Very exciting, veryyou know, your team can get over
that hump. I mean they canbeat they can beat a good team,
(13:16):
you know, and Maplesville is historicallyvery good. Yes, exactly, exactly,
all right, you're in the playoffs. It's one versus four. You
got Southern Chalk Taw. They're comingto you on a Thursday night. And
by the way, for people whoare listening tomorrow night at at Beulah Chaw,
you know, you take us outon a Thursday, come see a
(13:37):
Thursday game and you can go checkout a Friday game somewhere else, but
come watch the Indians take on SouthernChop Talk tomorrow night at Belah High School.
Sir, So you've played there? How many time? How many games
have y'all played there? We playedup well, I think it's we played
them there and then we played twoother games there, all right, and
you played one at board Guard, right and one at Brogard. Yeah,
exactly. Y'all been Thursday night,Uh yeah, Warriors right. Yeah.
(14:01):
If you know, the thing thatit came down to come down to is
that you know, if you usingsomeone else stadium, you'd like to play
on Thursday because they, you know, they have Friday activities going on.
They might even if they don't havea game, you know, they might
have something like walk food or somethinggoing on. So you know, you
know, all the everybody in leaguekind of have been very gracious let us
use their stadium, So it's agood thing. They go ahead and just
play on Thursday, so we canyou know why use they feel on Friday.
(14:22):
Well, you'll all family coach exactlyolslike Southern Chalk Talk talk about them.
Coach Southern Chalk Talk coach buy avery good coach, eletendary coach,
coach Borkins. He does a greatjob with them. You know, they're
right here now with the four andsix record, and then in the playoffs.
You know, and I told ourteam, man, every team is
here now. Is here for areason. Every team in the playoff is
(14:43):
in the playoffs for a reason.Everybody. Nobody's here by mistake. Everybody's
earned their right to be here andthere, and nobody is coming into the
playoffs thinking they gonna lose the firstround. Everybody's coming to win. So
we just gotta continue to just dowhat we gotta do on special teams,
offense and defense, and continue tojust get better and better and hopefully we
get better enough to move on tothe is around. They're in a very
strong region too. There was Leroyand some teams, so yeah, yeah,
(15:05):
very strong region. So you know, to be a four seat in
that region, you know that ain'ta bad That's what I was thinking.
Yeah, yeah, but you gottaplay this region. Yeah, region,
you gotta play this. They gotto play this number one. Yeah,
exactly in this region. One ASouth, I mean when you're talking about
one A South and this is oneof the I think the biggest talent areas
(15:26):
when you're talking about classifications one ASouth, boy, I mean with with
the teams in this bracket, whocomes out of this one's gonna be it's
gonna be fun to watch it is. And with the team they say that
may be coming to this region also, so you know it is gonna get
better and better. What rumor hasit somebody's coming to this region. Yes,
I think uh Tago Academy. Maybethey'd be a one A. I
(15:48):
think they'd be a. Hey,whether there's several of them for jumping from
A A S A in theo HSAthat could be interested. That's one.
That's one. So we're just waitingto just see, you know, highery
thing gonna turn out. Where's gonnaa couple more schools than everybody looking at
that city're gonna go one A,two A three A. So you know
the reclarification you're coming up, sowe'll just see where we'll be at.
You know, I don't know wherethey fit at. But aren't they three
(16:10):
A and A I s a otagaand how they are? Yeah, I
think they're at least gonna be atwo. You know, you never know.
I don't know that maybe unless enrollmentgoes down the Yeah, you never
know. They got the factor whichis one point three fast plus whatever they
have. I don't know that's supposedto coach. I know you could look
down the road and some of theseteams and opponents, but I know you
(16:32):
you've got to focus on Southern chocktalk because it's the first one up here
in the playoffs and undefeated, soyou know you got the bulls out on
your call, and these guys willbe coming in trying to make a big
upset one exactly exactly, that's what. That's exactly why I've been telling our
kids. You know, after thegame, you're gonna move on to the
next one. You know, you'regonna move on to the next one.
You already got in your mind. You know who you may play, you're
gonna move on. But each eachweek it's very fast, like soon that
(16:55):
game over we gotta get ready forthe next one, you know, especially
if you win, you definitely gottaget ready for the next on because next
one is coming up very soon. But the thing is, you can't overlook
no teams here, you know.I can't look can't overlook Southern chalk talk.
I overlook no one that's here now, whether you're one, two,
or three or four seed, likeI see everybody here for a reason.
Everybody he will win. And thislate in the season, you had an
off weak last week. I knowthey're eager to get back out. Yeah,
(17:17):
they are very much. So youknow, you had a little time
last week to heal a couple ofkids that need to be healed. You
know, a lot of less contactthan than normal, a couple of ice
balls, you know, things likethere that they get the buys back to
Yether and get their mind back toYether, you know, physically and mentally,
get everybody back to Yether. Sogoing into that bye week, that
helped us out a lot. Nowwe're going to go into this first round
in the playoffs. You gotta yougotta, I mean, what what's your
(17:40):
total roster? Cuse I told theroster now is about twenty seven kids.
So you really can't you can't knowto get somebody hurt in practice, nobody,
right, I can't even afford toget their manager's hurt. Ten guys
go both ways, right, Ican't even have the manager getting hurt.
Yeah. Ten guys that never leavethe field. Right, Southern Chalk told
tomorrow night as high school? Right, god, high school? All right?
(18:00):
Loachapoka, Coach Newton, appreciate thetime, Thanks so much, all
right, thank you so much. All Right, we're back after this here
on the High School Coaches Show,Live of Mose Barbecue. Back here live
a most Barbecue High School Coaches Show, and we're glad you're with us here,
(18:21):
presented by the Orthopedict Clinic, VanRiggs Jeff Sasser. We've got a
Valley coach, Adam Hunter. Quickreminder seven o'clock. We're gonna be flipping
over to the CMA Awards on theKicker. The High School Coaches Show will
continue on though on Fox Sports nineten, thirteen ten A in the game.
You can also catch it anywhere onour free iHeartRadio app All right,
Coach Hunter, good evening, welcomein, Hey guys, how y'all good,
(18:41):
good, well, very well,I know tough from last week.
You played a really good Benjamin Russellteam went up a class played in six
A and you were going toe totoe with them for a long time there.
But they just a little bit offensive, too much offensive firepower, I
guess down the stretch. That's right. You know, coach did his good
job. You know, he gothis guys ready to play. We gave
(19:03):
up some big, big plays, especially coming out in the second half,
their first possession, we gave upa long touchdown pass. You know,
it kind of deflated us a littlebit, but you know, our kids
bounced back and played good. Wewanted to be competitive in that game,
and I felt like we were. You know, we wanted to carry that
over into the playoffs and and ourkids bought in. You know, they
they didn't give up. They fought, and that's all we asked for them.
(19:25):
Something. The radio guys were givingyou grief a whole game. I'm
just hey, yeah, I'm tellingyou though, fake punt. That was
a beautiful call. It was itwas. It was a good call.
It was in the first half, that's right. Yeah, yeah, you
know, and you know, wewe wanted to just be able to do
it put it on films, soyou know they'll have h a little bit
to work on a little bit more. So you know, our kids have
really done good. You know,I was talking to them today and you
(19:48):
know I don't we got a youngteam as far as number wise, o
our smaller classes are the big numbersfor us. But you know we've we've
lost a three good teams, sothey've really bought into what we're doing.
We beat seven good teams and welost the three really really good teams.
So you know, our kids areyou know, they're doing everything they need
(20:10):
to do right now to get usin position. We just got to keep
it rolling into the playoffs. Lostregion champs, that's right, that's right.
We have you know six A.Ben Russell's their tenth in sixth A
right now. You know they're they'rethe one seed out of their region Clay
Central. Of course we all knowabout them. They're the one seed out
of our region. And then youknow Hanley, they're the one seed out
(20:30):
of their region in four A.So you know we did, we lose
lost three games all region champls. So Cam when he a couple of years
ago, when you guys came overto Opelaika. I remember watching him play
quarterback that game, and then Iflipped on and watched him play the other
night. He's grown up so much, not only as a player, but
he's gotten taller. That's right. He is huge, and that's the testament
(20:52):
is work. You know, he'sgrown, but he's also gotten thicker.
He had to put some he did, you know, And I can't talk
enough about him this year. Youknow, he's kind of got the aw
end of the deal. The pasttwo seasons has been banged up a little
bit, but this year he's reallyplayed well. He's played you know,
ninety five percent of our snaps offensivelyand defensively. He's probably not been on
(21:15):
the field maybe fifteen snaps all year, wow, other than special teams.
Uh, He's he's been on thefield. So you know, he's done
everything we've asked of him to do. You know, he in this day
and time in five A football, you don't see many kids that play that
many snaps in the season. Sohe's really bought in and he loves he
loves what he does. You know, he loves football, and he has
(21:37):
really you know worked hard and holdingin on his his skill level at that
position on both sides of the football, quarterback and safety. So well,
your pace of play I think helpsto you guys kind of gotta go with
your own but you kind of controlof the game. So you give you
guys a little bro I know, watching out all the other week out there
last week, you would you'd runa play and the guys not that they
were loafing around, but they taketheir time to come back and get set.
(22:00):
That's right. You know, yougot to got to catch your breath
when you can. We do.We've got five game, five guys that's
going both ways. So you knowour skill guys with jay Ian, you
know Cam, they've got to slowdown. You know, I had to
tell Cam, look, take abreak, man, catch your breath out
there. Get them set and takea break, catch your breath and go.
You know, he's just trying topush push, push, push push.
(22:22):
But they do a good job. They come back. You know,
like I said, a lot ofpeople will look at it that we're just
kind of walking around a little bit, but they are trying to get their
self back to playing where they're notgive out. You know that that's the
key to it. So they doa good job with that right, coach,
you go to you got this weekyou at VC Rain bevery similar team
as far as the record, Imean the record and they lost the three
(22:45):
good teams. That's what the Vigerfaith. And yeah, go sure all
Reagion losses, that's right, man. We know about all the teams down
at Viger had to didn't they endup? Was it Viger that had to
forfeit a game? They forfeited agame to Ums, right, so that
you know that kind of cost them. So yeah, you know BC Range
that they I compare them to us. You know, they they they play
(23:10):
some really good teams. Uh.They've got some athletes. They got some
kids that can stretch the field. They got a quarterback, they can throw
it. You know, their lineman'sbig up front, especially defensive side.
The ball defense ends pretty big,and they got inside linebacker. It's pretty
good. Uh. So you know, anytime you're getting into five A football
in the playoffs, that's what you'regonna see now. So you know,
we got to go out and aSQ. We got to win all three
phases. You know, I thinkspecial teams is gonna be big for us
(23:33):
Friday night. You know, Ithink we can really you know, take
some advantage of of some things theydo, uh, special teams. Why
so you know, we got towin that phase, but we we got
to keep everything in front of usdefensively, uh, and we got to
control the clock a little bit offensivelyand put some points on the board.
Out of that region, there wasa what a as a viger that they
didn't make the playoffs, didn't makeit any Yeah. Yeah, so,
(23:57):
uh, you know, the athletesand Bill, there's plentiful love. Yeah,
this will be the I will ventureto say that this is the best
three seed in five absolutely congratulations.Right, yeah, I know it.
Man. That that's right. That'sthat's that's key. They come four hours
here, so yeah, being athome. There's nothing like being home.

High School Coaches Show and don't flipthat switch by from Mose Barbecue, Bent
Creek and Auburn Reminder seven o'clock CMAAwards coming up with a High School Coaches
Show continues over on Fox Sports nine, ten, thirteen, ten AM,
The Game and anywhere on our freeiHeartRadio app. Just search Fox Sports The
Game. Jeff Sasser, how youdoing. I'm doing well, all right,
I'm doing well and these guys aredoing well too. This first time
(25:15):
in the playoffs since twenty in eighteeneighteen eighteen. Bob Kat Beulah, Bob
Kats in the playoffs. I likethe sound of it. I do too.
Yeah, congratulations. First off,I know it's tough when you go
a few years. That's a longdrought. Yeah, I know. And
you know, and November comes andyou know it's it's tough. I know.
(25:36):
Yeah, And you know. Iwas telling the team, we're the
thirteen and twenty five years to bepracticing this week, and don't take that
lightly. Oh yeah, well, you know one thing we hadn't really talked
about it is we've got twelve schoolsright now. We're talking to that are
going to the playoffs. Yeah, and I think that's one of the highest
amount of teams we've had in years. I think you right then, I
(25:59):
don't know what when we've had thismany. Yeah, that means we've had
on a really really good night wheneverybody's here, we've had. The most
we've had is seventeen. So that'sfive teams. Yeah, yeah that aren't
here. Yeah, and the billof Bob kas who joined the party.
Yeah. Yeah. And we've hadsome other teams coming from outside the area
that normally weren't here on the coachingshow, like you know, Benjamin Russell
(26:19):
here and some other teams. Butbut hey, he on the road though.
We're going to mobile all right,Charter buses and cheese wagons, Charter
we're doing it right, Yeah,Mobile Christian coach are Yeah, they're not
too bad. The sports writers thinkhighly. They're just number one. It's
not a big deal. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, they're
they're the sports writers have them thetwhat do they know those controls down there?
(26:44):
He's a yeah, he's just prettygood there. Yeah, he does
a good job with him. Imean they got you know what, there's
anything. You look at them.I mean they're they're good at every aspect
of the game, every phase ofthe game. We're athletic, huge up
front, quarterback can can throw that. He throws probably the prettiest deep ball
I've seen all year. And they'rejust gonna be They're gonna be tough.
(27:07):
I mean they're they're number one fora reason. And then little secret about
it. Uh, they are numberone for a reason. We just got
going there and compete and you know, play hard, and uh, you
don't see what happens. We justyou got to execute. And this week
we had a good week of practice. Guys were fired up to play off
week and uh, like we justgot carried over Friday night. Do you
think playing number one they can read, they know that gets you fired up?
(27:33):
Yeah, I mean that you gottaplay the best. You know,
we're gonna we gotta play them somehowsomewhere if we wanna, if we want
to continue on the playoffs, mightas well playing first, or so I
told them, Oh, you haveto do, though, what you have
to do to beat this this wegot to play. We have to play
a perfect game. We have toplay a perfect game. We gotta have
some help from them, and youknow, we get we we got Yeah,
that's it. I mean, youyou really gotta you gotta play a
(27:56):
perfect game. Hopefully some some thingsthat doesn't you know, don't go their
way. Where they're athletes and theythey are, you know, we're we're
over match athletically. There's no there'sno secret about that. You know,
Like you said, kids, kidscan read, kids can watch film.
They know it's gonna be it's anuphill battle, but we're there. We're
at least we're in the battle.Yeah, and so you got to make
the best of it. And uh, you know, we have fourteen seniors
(28:18):
and we're they're leading us and andthey're doing a good job. And you
know, our goal this year wasto make the playoffs. And now you
know, I've told them all week, they've built the foundation that we need
and now we just got to moveon and keep working and and continue to
make this foundation stronger. What isit You're one of thirty two is still
playing three? We're three three appson three all right? And uh you
(28:41):
know, I mean, yeah, you know you're gonna have to play them
eventually, you might as we wantto get take care of it. Right,
Yeah, if you want to ifyou want to make it, uh,
you know, to the to thenext round and the then eventually,
you know, as far as youcan go, you've got to play them
somehow. Sometimes somebody as will doit. Did they find them a linebacker,
because I know they lost one. They have a lot of linebackers.
They got plenty, they got plenty. Well, I know Mobile Christian they
(29:02):
were playing four A for a coupleof years there in twenty and twenty one,
uh, and then went down backto three A and last year was
six and eight and uh then thisyear ten and ozer. Yeah, so
they've kind of gotten things rolling. You know, it's crazy that I go
back to the history of Mobile Christian. They were an assay school back in
mid two thousands, two thousand andfive, I think twenty six here is
when they when they switched over tothe AHSA A struggled for a while.
(29:25):
A's a lot of teams do,and they make that jump. But uh,
they played for the championship in sixteen. I was one of their team
hosts over here at at Jordan hereand and their their look of their team
changed from when they were in theassay They got big. That's big guys.
Then I'm sure they're big now theyare gigantic. Yeah, there's there's
some there's they're athlete. I mean, you know, in a one,
(29:45):
why are they no more? They'rejust you're good. You're a really good
football team. But I kind oflike being in that underdog role. There's
no look, there's absolutely zero pressureon us. Yeah, I feel great
about it, I really do.I mean, we're going in there,
we're gonna we're gonna give them allwe got and see what happens. That's
all you can ask from. Imean, it really is. It's not
some old school coach speak coach talk. I mean, really, we feel
(30:08):
fresh about it. And you know, it's kind of like we played Ruandoff
County this year. Randoff County camein and nobody was giving us a chance.
And yeah, the score at theend was fifty to twenty eight,
but it was twenty nine to twentyeight. We were up with five minutes
of going the game, you know, and we took that week and you
know, we it was just kindof a we reset the clock with us.
And it feels a lot like thatright now. Now, whether the
(30:30):
results stays the same we don't know, but we're you know, we're loose.
There's no pressure on us, andwe're excited. I mean, you
know, we got really good supportfrom our community, from our school,
and it's I mean, it's abig deal we're doing. It's a big
deal and these kids need to asmuch support we can we can give them.
(30:52):
And you know, let's see whathappens as the rest of your staff
doing that. They pulled in theirwhite Oh yeah, Coach Course does a
great job. He's are of course, he's my it's coordinator. He's got
a tough task of Friday night, but uh, you know he's got a
good game plan and uh pressures oncoach course. Yeah, well that's what
we're planning to put pressure on them. There you go, that's what we
house bring it every time. Yeah, somebody asked me that I told that
(31:14):
to these guys. I was atchurch last night and somebody asked me,
you plan on bringing pressure and Isaid, everything, we call, I'll
text coach control. I still gothis number of mom. I'm saying,
they'renna pay zone the six six. They're playing six drop lineman. So yeah,
well, well good luck. Iknow what a long trip safe travels.
Well, thank you. Yeah,we're gonna make up. We're gonna
make a good it's gonna be agood day Friday. We're gonna go to
(31:37):
the Auburn indoor practice a little bitand just make our way down the interstate
and see what happened. School's outthere. You go, have a good
day. There, you go.That's it. We're time leaving. We're
gonna leave about nine o'clock. Goahead up there, get to Auburn,
have some lunch, head on down. Sounds like a good trip. It's
gonna be a good trip. It'sgonna be a good day. Bill heads
to Mobile Christian Friday night. Coach, good luck, appreciate it, Thank
(32:00):
you, Thank you guys, Thanky'all. Good to have the Bobcats in
the playoffs. We'll come back andcontinue from the High School Coaches Show after
this time out right here on ninetyseven point seven Kicker have him. Welcome
back to the High School Coaching Show. We're coming to you live from Mole's
Original Barbecue. We've brought to youby the Orthi p D Clinic, Moles,
(32:22):
Fox Sports, the Game, andthe Kicker, Lee County's Best Country
ninety seven point seven. Our nextcoach is coach Luster Dannel from Lee Scott
Academy. He's coming off of byeweek straight into the semi finals. Yeah
yeah, fort Dale, Fort Dale, good to see you guys. Nice,
good to see you, coach.Coach, you got a crew with
you. I have a crew.Not only do I have a player Jackson
(32:45):
Lee. Yeah, on the offensivelineman, defensive lineman. Been women.
I guess when you in the eighthgrade when I got there. Yes,
I think so. I'm in eighthgrade and he's now a junior, fine
young man, good football player, big boy. As you can see we're
talking to We need to recruit itfor more, like get some more boys
like him. I was talking todad the other day and we were talking
(33:07):
about the Braidon was playing in midgetleague football, you know, and he
rips out the phone and shows meJackson when he was playing for I guess
the way you played for the Chiefsor somebody. Yeah it was the last
time anyway, same jerseys, bythe way, we still got to my
solves are our jersey. Those theFalcons jerseys. Now it wasn't you blinking
And there they are growing up.That's right. You'll be graduating before you
know it. So yeah, buthe doesn't find job for us. Glad
(33:29):
to have him on our side.Already played fort Dale, took care of
him on the road. And Iknow sometimes it's tough playing the team twice,
Absolutely it is. You know, every coach to tell you it's hard
to beat a good team twice. And you know, we got a tough
task at hand, but they're comingto judge God just this time. And
I like our chances. We've hadgreat, great five days of practice and
the guys are excited running around thefield, enjoying football. I think that
(33:52):
break last week helped us out alot. Was it early morning practice this
morning? Absolutely? Five forty five, five forty five, everybody on time.
Everybody was on everybody's early okay, yeah, yeah, nobody beat you
though, right, Oh well Ihad one and was sitting that way on
me this morning, sure did.It was acting to be a ninth grade
er two. Dad had to goto work early. He just dropped him
off there. So yeah, hebeat me there this morning. Okay,
but that didn't happen awful, No, it don't have an offendlle coach,
(34:15):
you beat him forty two to tenI think last time there, What do
you got to I mean, itis the same. Is it the same
team? Are they better than theywere with? I mean, well,
you know they've they've played a coupleof games since then, so everybody gets
better each time they play. It'sthe same guys. I think they're they're
on hundred percent healthy. We're healthy. It's gonna be a good, good
(34:37):
game. It'spake the same thing. You know. I think they're gonna come
in and try to run football. That's that's what we're gonna do. We're
gonna get behind our offensive line andwe're gonna run the ball. And uh,
you know, I'm on offensive linecoach, and that's what I want
to do. So you know,I think it's gonna be a good football
game. And uh you know,we we can't make mistakes like we've done
in a recent game. So it'sgonna be a tough task. Could beat
them again, but but I likeour chances. There are only two losses
(34:59):
to you and glen Wood perp that'sright, Yeah, that's right. And
I said, we both love Whenwe played the first time, we had
the same record seven and one,and we both lost the same team.
So I mean, they're a goodfootball team. It's gonna be tough to
beat them again. But like Isaid, I like our guys. I
take our guys every day and goplay. So we're one hundred percent healthy,
nobody out we're going what we gotfrom the start of the season.
(35:22):
Well, I don't know if weone hundred percent healthy. You know,
Jackson got hurt the first player ofthe game against Edgewood. Yeah, he
was in a boot for two orthree four days, but he's he's good
now, going full speed. ChristianHorak is uh, he's got some shot
issues going on, but he's justgonna play and be fine. So I
think everybody else is good. CoachJackson, how do you feel about the
game? I'm ready, ready, and you're on. You're in the trenches,
(35:45):
and I know that's where coach Danielslikes to win the game. So
I know that the challenge has beenprobably laid out. They let's go open
up some holes and make some tacklesin the backfield. Right, get after
the quarterback? I guess you getwell. Listen, I tell you he's
gonna play a little bit on bothsides, but he is mainly the offensive
offensive line because he's got open holesfor our guys. Yeah, you know,
(36:06):
he we we don't have a wholelot of depth, so I can't
spare him too much on the defensiveside. So we got to be able
to move the bass. We've gotto keep the guys on that side to
start with. So he needs tobe paving the asphalt. Absolutely having away
for these guys. But a goodjob. You've run. You've run good
all year long. And then ofcourse, now Jake White's had some big
games too. Is that you knowthe passes to him? Is that is
that yards after catch or down thefield? A little bit about a little
(36:30):
bit of both, Yeah, alittle bit, but he's made some great
catches this year. And uh butyeah, I mean it was it's a
little both. And you know we'regonna we're gonna change that game plan.
We're gonna go in the same way. Coach Wade does good job calling plays,
and you know, I let himgo. I may make a suggestion
every now and then, but hedoes a good job. He does most
of it, and he gets aball in the guy's hands and need to
be in I mean backs where yourun Friday night, We'll run for again
(36:50):
and we just rotate them in.Sometime we go two plays, you might
like JJ and a couple of plays, but most time it's it's a different
back each play. So you hadsome guys get wreckinggnwed as you as well
gonna be an All Star coach Isaw earlier today, and you've got what
five other players that are gonna Wegot five guys, and you know it's
possibility to always get that other oneon there because this guy's you know,
Glenn Wood's got one's hurt. Hewent out, you know, I think
(37:14):
he's out the rest of the year. So and then some decide not to
play, so you know we mayget that that six one in there.
So but yeah, we got JJand Matthew roll later and Miles Zachary I'm
gonna leave somebody out help me out, Jake White, I think I saw
White, and Conor Stewart. Yeah. So those five guys, you know
one join us down there in Montgomery, and uh, it's a fun time,
(37:34):
a good time to get to seeother kids, coach other kids,
and be around other coaches. Butyou know, those guys have been selected
to be on the All Stars, and I'm proud of them. Our game
is tomorrow night, Jude scott Field. Right, that's correct, seven o'clock.
We need to fill that place up, all right, And yeah,
you're giving away free tickets over herein the Sam's Club parking lot after the
coach, I will, I will, they want to come, we'll get
them in. And it is it'stwo passed, right, Yeah. Well,
(37:55):
I don't know about the dot com. I don't know. I hadn't
bought one, but it says twopasses. It's two pass and there's no
there's no cash gate, so theygotta do it online. Okay, So
make sure don't get in that longline trying to trying to purchase someone yourself.
All right, you got a ticket? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I'm you gotta take it. Igotta ticket. H I got a ticket
and I'm Joe may not have.Yeah, hey, hey, we're gonna
be there. I got some Igot the folks coming in from Greenville.
(38:17):
So I got some folks on theother side of the game coming in tomorrow
night. So I told him, hey, to be in for a root
awaken. Yeah, coach, geta lot tomorrow night. I appreciate it.
I got a big, big tacklein my lap, right, here.
Yeah, future tack coach's Daniel's he'sjuggling great kids. You'll still be
coaching. I doubt it. I'mgonna go in there and sit in the
last year and pull for but Iwon't be I won't somewhere right. Oh,
(38:39):
that's a while trying to take thehead balls off now, coach get
a lot. Tomorrow night, youguys appreciate you. Thursday Night Football,
Judge Skytte Field. It'll be theLeast Scout Warriors hosting the Fort Dale Why
does my mind playing Eagles? FortDale Leagals? Tomorrow night, Judge s
Gott and Field, kickoff seven o'clock. We'll be back right after this time
out and listen to High School CoachesShow. Lying from Mose Barbecue, been
(38:59):
creaking Auburn. All right back HighSchool Coaches Show. And here he is
he Van is new to this game, mister sass This is the most exciting
(39:20):
six minutes of the Coaches Show. It's boy guard time, it's Coach Wallace,
Coach Jones. Yes, it's VanRiggs, ladies and gentlemen, and
yes, mister Sassra, we'd liketo thank the orthopter Clint Fox Sports the
game Moe's Original Barbecue. iHeart Radioand yes the Kicker w k k R
ninety seven point seven, Lee County'sBest Country. And we'll have the CMA's
(39:43):
on at some point tonight. That'sright, thirteen minutes and we and we
head to the CMA. That's right, baby. Hey, the Coaches Show
continues on Fox Sports of the Game. Hey, there you go. Is
Peyton Manning and Luke Bryant Peyton Show. Look, Peyton Manning's on? Is
he on something every night? Now? I'm telling you, Hey, he's
a he's a character dead. Yeah, you can't. You can't get rid
of the Mannings. So hey,get to get him out there to the
(40:07):
Boar Guard Quarterback Club kids. Yeah, that's funny. Hey, there is
a man there's a Manning out there, but it's not it's not his No
night coach. Last week, youplayed Lincoln in high school one thirty seven
to seven, Yes, sir, tell us briefly. Yeah, well yeah,
(40:29):
what I thought? We we Uhwe started fast. I think at
one point in the second quarter wewere up like twenty eight to nothing and
started real fast defensively, probably playedthe most. Uh finally got everybody healthy,
started started uh flying around the football. You know, just I think
we end up with that. Theyend up with like forty one to forty
(40:51):
one total yards offense all night. So wow, I thought our defense played
really fast, you know, gotafter pretty good. Uh Coach Wallas can
talk about the offer us a littlebit. Yeah, having uh having the
big running back back helps a lot. I think he carried it twelve times
for one hundred and fifty yards andtwo touchdowns and had another touchdown called back.
So you know, having him inthe backfield definitely makes the difference for
(41:14):
us. And uh so he continuesto get better every week and heal and
uh so we we're hoping we keepthis thing going so he could keep toping
that rock or is this his second? Was that his second game? Because
he had a big his first gameback, he had a big night.
Yeah, well he did on onlyabout eight care So you're talking in two
weeks twenty carries out three hundred yardsand six touchdowns in two weeks. Good
(41:39):
to have him back, Yes,amen, makes my job a lot easier
class he's he's a senior, Yes, sir. Petition the league for another
we could try medical correct shirty Iagainst it. Hey, Well, you
know what, it's good to haveback. You're in the playoffs. You
(41:59):
gotta try mo well ball encountered,Yes, sir, yester, so you
got to go. We're gonna ballat the beach, baby. Yeah you
are Friday, uh yeah, playingFriday night. Pretty good team. And
by the sports writers, the howthey thought of that's a great way to
put it. That's a great wayto put it. So we're excited about
(42:23):
it. We we've really our pitchall week has been the you know,
kind of the word of belief, and then you know three things from it.
You gotta believe you execute Number one. Then you gotta believe you can
overcome because you're in the playoffs,so there's gonna be good things happen on
your side. And you're playing agood football team. They're gonna do good
things too, so and then thebelief the wins. We get that thing
to the fourth quarter and give ourselvesand our players a chance to to pull
(42:45):
it off. Man, I mean, we're excited about I think our kids
are excited about it. You know, we were in that of course,
everybody in the state knows you're inthat limbo of the unknown. But at
this point, man, it's GulfShorts. That's where we're going. That's
who we're gonna play and get theirgift right night and get on. You
know what comes you play in thesouth far of the state to get the
test. You got to play themat some point, you know. Way,
(43:06):
that's the why. I mean, people, I've had numerous text phone
calls this and that, and I'mlike, end of the day, man,
you're gonna you're gonna have to begood football teams to make a run
the playoffs. Everybody's good. Imean, you wouldn't be in it even
if you hadn't earned your way toget a championship. No, there's no
way. And you got and yourbest players got to play their best games,
you know. And so I meanthat's kind of the way we're looking
(43:28):
at it, is put our bestplayers in the in the best position to
be successful and and you know,go play good football. What do they
do well coach well to Offensively,Uh, I'll let coach Willa was talking
about in defense. Offensively, theydo a really good job. I mean
their multiple spread team, they doa really good job of getting their best
football player, which is the Royalkid. They do a good job of
(43:50):
multiple ways to get him the football, Like he'll be at running back,
he'll be at slot receiver. They'veeven snapped it to him at quarterback.
So they do a really good jobof getting their best football player the football
in different different parts of the field. So, and then defensively, Coach
Wallace, Yeah, I mean defensivethey fly to the ball. So when
you uh, when you pause thetape, when the tackles being made,
(44:10):
uh, and didn't let it playa little bit after that, you just
see helmets start to show up.So they're getting guys to the ball.
And I mean they're they're talented.I mean they're two stand up defensive ends
are are bad as good as we'veseen all year. So it's definitely gonna
be a challenge for us. ButI mean, like coach said, our
kids are up to the challenge.I mean we feel like we got good
players on our side too. Theyjust got to go make plays for us.
(44:30):
Anybody goes plays both ways. Yeah, the Royal kid plays both turn
around plays, corner on defense. They kind of good. They got a
good workout program down it down there, golf shores, yeah, athletic clubs
and stuff down there too. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
workout facilities of a lot of options. Yeah, you know they they've
(44:54):
done a good job of that.Yes. Hey, and the analogy I
thought about this, somebody called mesaying coach of the number one. I
remember when I was growing up,okay, because my daddy we watched what
I call wrestling, not wrestling, but yeah, and I remember that they
used talk about Andrea Giant. Nobodycould, nobody could body slam Andrea Giant.
(45:15):
And then all of a sudden,it's like Summer Slam of nineteen ninety
whatever, Hulk Cogan slam that bigrascal and pending, and I was like,
somebody's got to do it, solike it may, it might as
well be us, Right, Hey, let's go make it happen. That's
what I'm talking about. So let'sgo ahead and slay that Giant to start
with. Yeah, so charter busses, sir, charter busses to the shore?
(45:37):
Is there any other way to go? Hey? So well, yeah
it is, there is, butit ain't gonna be us. No private
jets or doesn't. I did haveI did have one coach that has a
coach. I'll go go down onThursday night that said, cause, come
on, now, come on,now, that's time I taking seventy five
boys on a Thursday night trying togo down to go shore. Hey,
(45:58):
but I didn't hear the cost ofit. About about evens up with the
charter buses. If you take cheesewagons and spend the night in hotels,
it's about even charter buses run now. But my, but my sanity,
Yeah, on that charter bus isa whole lot better than Yeah, I
wouldn't I wouldn't want to be chaperonethan that. You'd have to play some
extra administrated you'd have to, soit'd be tough. That'd be tough.
(46:22):
Yep. So but like I said, I mean, you you're gonna put
you gotta play them to get there. So there's a hats off to all
these other there's a there's a goodgroup of coaches still here tonight. Got
to do this, man. That'spretty cool. Well well in the area,
man, pretty good area. Wellabout sixteen or seventh that's pretty good,
(46:42):
Man, would be one of thehighest percentages since we've been doing I
think about that. Yeah, wedid, we did. That's good stuff.
Man. That's off to all thesecoaches we have twelve next week.
That's the plan. Yeah, sogood luck coach into the beach. Hey,
let's do it, baby, shortFriday nights. Baby, there you
go, set you guys, thereyou go. Boar guard hornets, they
(47:04):
head the golf shores. We'll takea quick break coming up on the way.
We'll continue with our High School CoachesShow a few more minutes here on
the Kicker before the CMA's bump usoff and we'll head over to Fox Sports

I know you are. Let's seelast week Scambia, a place you had
coached. Yeah, I should sayJason Allen, coach of Chambers academ out,
(48:07):
No one, Yeah, it's okay, I know, we get that's
coach Jason Allen. We're you know, we're uh at least may you know
I'm a rookie at this all right, we won fifty five eighteen last week?
Coach ye at y'all had to travelto a scam No, no,
no, they came here. Yeah, we're home throughout the playoffs, so
we've been right that first round.I was thinking the regular season, that's
right. Yeah, uh you wantto talk about that when brief we'll talk
(48:28):
about your next opponent, coach,Yeah, yeahs Scambia. That's two years
in a row. We played themin the first round playoffs, and uh,
we played well. You know,we were coming off that big win
over glen Wood, and I waskind of worried about the let down being
a little flat first week, butour kids came out on fire and we
played well. Score twenty eight pointsin opening quarter, and uh kind of
cruise from there and got everybody someplaying time. Some younger guys got some
(48:51):
experience in the playoffs, which isalways a good thing. And uh,
we got our older guys out anddidn't get anybody banged up. And so
now we're in a semi final. Was hosting a really good Patrician team tomorrow
night. Man Patrician. Last timehe played them was in seventeen. Yep,
we lost twenty two to twenty inthe state championship game. I remember
that and I was kind of upset. But that's okay. We will Patrician
(49:14):
coach tell us about Patrician this year. Yeah, Patrician is a old school
Delaware wing tea team, a lotlike coach Wayne Trede with wing tea,
just you know, their heavy runteam. And you know, we've been
a wing tea school. Although we'rein the shotgun now, we're very wing
tea oriented with our blocking schemes andour mister and stuff. So but Patrician
(49:37):
is defending to a state champs. They were one of the maybe arguably the
top team in the whole AISA lastyear. They lost some good players,
but they got one really good playerback. Their wing back names Jay Lindsey.
He'll sign with University of Alabama nextmonth as a tight end. He's
about six five, two forty fiveand he's just a devastating blocker. So
(50:00):
we got our hands full with himon their fairy physical run team. They
may if they throw it five timesin this middle very they've really aired it
out. Yeah, so they tryto get it to him when they do
throw it. Well, yeah theydo, they sure do. So.
Yeah, So the team revolves aroundhim from a blocking standpoint, and he's
the coach's son and so and verywell it should be. He's one of
(50:22):
the top players in our whole league. All right, coach, Hey,
let's hold that thought. We're gonnaswitch gears. We're gonna continue the show
on Fox Sports nine ten thirteen tenam. The game few seconds away from
CMA Awards here on the Kicker Reminderthough Fox Sports nine ten thirteen ten am.
The game continues on with the HighSchool Coaches Show next. All right,
we are back here on Fox Sportsnine ten thirteen ten am the game
(50:43):
as we continue with our High SchoolCoaches Show. It is presented to you
by You can watch the Worthopedic Clinic. Jeff Sasser here joining up with us.
Jason Allen, coach of Chambers Academy. Coach appreciates you baron with us
are as we switch gears over andcontinue the show here on Fox Sports.
The game, No problem, man, we're right in the middle talking by
Patrician. What they do well,They've run oriented. You said they may
throw the ball five times. Yeah, yeah, their backs. What kind
(51:06):
of backs do they have? Hip, Oh, they got a really good
fullback. He's like a bowling ball. He's really strong. You know,
they pounded up in there with hima lot. And then their tailback has
got pretty good speed. So youknow, their best three players are their
wing back, their full back, and their tailback. And that's kind of
guys that that we've got to makesure that we know where they're at and
(51:27):
what they're trying to do. They'regonna try to they're gonna try to possess
the ball and keep it away fromus, and we got to do a
good job on defense and controlling theline of scrimmage and playing our team.
You count that. Just score quick. You can't panic. Don't panic if
the other team to me, ifthe other team keeps the ball six or
seven minutes and you get it.You know, just stay constant, be
(51:49):
who you are on offense, don'ttry to make huge plays that aren't there.
You know, possess the ball yourselfand eventually, you know, you
hope that you get some stops andthey get behind, and then teams like
that usually have a hard time catchingup when they're behind if they're a runt,
pre nominally run football team. So, you know, I think that's
what I've learned over the years isjust don't want panic and be he who
(52:13):
you are and pick your times whenyou want to go a little faster.
We are tempo offense at times,so if we get past the fifty or
we get close to scoring, wecan't go fast with our stuff. It's
because we definitely would like to runmore plays than them, because I feel
like we've got more team speed overallthan they do. Yeah, you know,
I've always thought that as a observerthat teams that like to possess the
(52:37):
football, if you get them insomething they're not really good at are uncomfortable
doing, you got an advantage. You've got them. Yeah, And the
other key is don't turn the ballover. Oh, yeah, because then
they begin up getting more possessions thanyou and then that's when you can really
get behind the eight ball a ballsecurity. You all been pretty good this
year with that. We have knockon wood and we work hard on it
(52:58):
today. If we work hard onand yeah, we work hard on it
every day because that's just my numberthat's my number one priority in offensive football
is don't put it on the groundand don't throw it to the other team.
Right yep. The their quarterback,so he he's not a strong thrower.
They got a freshman at quarterback,so that you know, he's a
(53:22):
good little player, but he's freshman, so hopefully we can take it.
This is his second year starting manh Yeah, Coast Party last year and
he's a senior. So yeah,he's done a great job. I think
keeps player of the Week in openlike Aliver News this week. He manages
our team real well. We doa lot of moving and shifting and and
a lot of motions and he reallyis good at the time and part of
our offense and he's been a goodfield general for us in that aspect.
(53:45):
They're special teams, coach, They'reokay, they don't kick the ball deep.
They kicked what we call the sunkick. They kick it really high
and short and make you fair catchit a lot. So we're hoping that
we'll get good filled uh position thereand then kickoff kickoff wise, you know,
we hope that we can kind ofpin them deeper so that a ball
(54:07):
security, a ball control offense hasto go eighty yards or so. Yeah,
coach, I want to ask youreal quick, I know the shifting
gears a little bit. You coachJason Allen Chambers Academy again, you coached
Pee Wee's, you coached the juniorhigh. How did those programs fare to
wrap the seasons up? This year? We had our Junior High. We
played at least got twice in Gloomwoodthree times, and we lost all five
(54:30):
games by like less than twenty points. It was really it was really close
games for most of the year, and then we ended up beating Fort Dale
and we ended up beating macon Ee. So we finished two in uh think
two and five in JV. ButI thought we had a good team.
We just couldn't quite get over thehump against those bigger schools. Pee wee
(54:50):
wise, we ended up with awinning season. So we got some good
players coming on. We've had betterjunior high and pee wee teams the last
couple of years. But I stillfeel really good about it. Base of
our program in the kids moving forward. Yeah, you put that foundation in
early. I mean you're they're runningwhat you're running in high school all not
and that's to a certain extent, but I mean you put it in early
on them and then that that doesn'tcome as a shock when they get there
(55:10):
in ninth and tenth grade doesn't.No, And that's the number one reason
why our programs where is that rightnow? Is we're taking the time to
teach some guys football and teach themour football, and it's important to them
from an early age, and sowe're staying consistent. When they move up
to the higher levels, we knowwhat's coming. All right. You host
(55:31):
Patrician tomorrow night, Thursday night, right seven o'clock at Chambers Academy. We
would love to have you hadn't beento Chambers, man, We've had just
huge crowds all year and this shouldbe a huge crowd again tomorrow night.
A torbet Field Torbett Allenfield years ago. I don't know what they were thinking.
(55:53):
I think they were just trying tokeep me from leaving. Are either
trying to get me to leave?I don't know. Hey, coach appreciated.
Good luck tomorrow and I okay, all right, thanks Coach Jason Allen
Chambers Academy again home against Patricia tomorrownight. High School Coaches Show continues here
on Fox Sports nine ten thirteen tenam. The Game. Hey, welcome
(56:17):
back to the High School Coaches Show. We're coming to you live from Mole's
Original barbu It's brought to you bythe os p D Clinic, MOS,
Fox Sports Game and Kicker FM ninetyseven point seven. Don't forget Lee County's
best country. We've got Roger McDonald, the coach of the Davil Tigers.
Coach, how are you? I'mgood, Hi, y'all night, I'm
(56:38):
doing good, doing good? Allright? Hey, let's see last week
lost to Wicksburg, is that right? That was that last one Wicksburg and
it over time? Yep. I'mgonna talk about that briefly. We'll move
Yeah. You know somebody will saywhen you yeah, it don't make excuse
as and injuries everybody has them andso I don't make an excuse. Just
(57:00):
tell you the truth. If mykid, if Burns gets to play,
he played the last two, pullhis hand, he plays, we win.
So an excuse is when you saywe didn't do this, but we
win with him and we don't winwithout him. Right, this is how
easy this week we play. Weknew he wouldn't make it back. I
don't even know if he'll be readyfirst two or three weeks. Basketball just
(57:20):
hamstring, just hard that he can'tget over it. Yeah, it's just
that simple. When you play inyour three eight football team and you lose
a vision one player, it makesfifteen tackles a game. Second, leading
rushing first, you know, leadingreceiver. I mean it's a lot to
replace. You just ain't got anotherone of them. When you're three eight.
Some skos can just roll them, right. We just we don't have
(57:43):
that. So kids played hard.It was a tough ball game. Probably
had a chance. We fumed onthe goal line right before half would have
went up two scores. Then inovertime we got the ball fourth and goal
on the three. But to playbefore my quarterback gets hurt and Jay is
also the backup quarterback, so myquarterbacks out and I had to put a
ninth grader in there, and uh, we actually we were setting it up.
(58:07):
We were going to throw a littlebackside vat to the tight end in
the corner and they were not coveringhim. And all of a sudden,
my starting quarterback gets hurt. Secondteam he's already over in street clothes and
put the little ninth c I wasn'tgonna reast out of him. Sure,
Uh, he just handed off. They stopped us on by to one.
Uh and then they end up scoringto beat us. So but we played
(58:28):
hard and that's all, you know. I told the kid, that's all
we can worry about. And uh, you know, our goal was to
we had one goal to start theseason. I'm not one of these paper
lists a lot. Our goal wasmake the playoffs. We made the playoffs,
and that's what we said, that'llbe four years in a row.
And we handed out those hoodies withfour years in a row on them,
and they just is fired up still. And you know, we don't play
(58:50):
but three seniors, so the kidsknow, you know, they're not ready
for this to get over with. But it's one of those deals where I
think they're ready for spring practice tostart now. Yeah, because they know
we can be pretty good most year, you know, still make the playoffs
for what we had and got everythingback, so they know, all right,
and we coaches, you start offthe playoffs against thomas Field. We
(59:14):
talked about this a three plane ortwo right, No, yes, but
we hadn't talked about them. No, we didn't have. If the private
schools were not in three A,they're the best team in the state.
Three yeah, cutt and dry.And I told the Budle of coaches they
saw the you know we all seein the same film because we're matched up
with that region, right. Itold the Budle coaches, if private schools
(59:35):
aren't in three they win it.And they said, we said the same
thing. I said, by farthe best team I've seen all you now,
their only losses to Mobile Christians fortysomething points, yeah, forty five
fourteen pow. Yes, that's whatwas. And without Mobile Christian being in
there, and probably Saint James,Thomasville's a state champion. They I mean,
I'm just telling that. Yeah, they're good, real good. And
(59:58):
it's it's like I said, it'sstrange. And the first comment I make
to DULA coaches and every night theBUDA coaches say, we said the same
thing. Yeah, and uh,because they had saw Thomas when they saw
Thomas Bill get beat that bad,and yet thought they were good enough to
win the state champions. So thattells you how good mobile Christian. I
know, you know, Beulah,I was happy for being but I mean
(01:00:20):
to be in the playoffs, andyou know they're excited. But that's a
tough draw right there. That's rightthem guys. If coaches have worked hard
and their principal down there has madea real commitment, you know, to
get them back, give them achance there in the weight room. So
I'm happy for you know, we'reall friends, all the coaches, So
I was glad they made it in. It's number four. That's one thing
Jeff and I were talking about. We were so excited to have twelve schools
(01:00:43):
here tonight, first round of theplayoffs. And that's the years ago.
That was how many teams we had, you know, for the whole season
at the coaching shot. Yeah, but so it's yes, good out of
sixteen teams we got twelve still playright well, we got two starters out
of course, Jay is one ofthem, and the other one's Timoon two
in and then after that I gotfourteen kids out. Twelve of the fourteen
(01:01:08):
have not been at practice all week. They have either flu or strap through.
Oh goodness, and we figured upthat's twenty six percent of our team.
It's not practicing, able to practice. Row. You know, I
heard a team a I say Schoolof Montgomery. They had the hen foot
and mouth going around. That wasI thought that was like a baby thing.
But their team that ran through theirteam and everybody got it. So
(01:01:30):
weird. Last year we had thesame thing happen. You know, the
season is a week later this year. You know we're backed up every four
years, it's a week later. So it happened last year last week.
So crazy how that happens. Samestuff. When we got ready to play
(01:01:51):
south Side Seal them the last yearof the first round, there was one
day of either Tuesday or Wednesday,we had eighteen kids at practice. You
know, I was, I wastalking to coach Daniels and his rule is
you don't practice, you can't playsick or not sick. I mean is
in publish go they won't let ourkids in store. I mean if you're
(01:02:12):
if you come up there and yougot a fever, they're sending you to
the house, right, so youknow, can takes that decision out of
your right, you know. AndI'm letting today. I got my deep
snapper. He's laying on the floorover there, and I said, you
feel bad, and he don't.Man, he look he is deep snapped
with a dislocated shoulder. Say thattells you he's a tough little kid.
I go over there, he said, I'm I feel I reached down here.
(01:02:34):
He's burning up, burning up.She man, you got you gotta
go to the house. He said, no, I'm going through kicking then
I'll know the house. And hedoes. But that's what I'm saying.
I mean, it's just runs througha mistress. It ain't nothing you can
do. No, I mean, those kids are right on top of each
It's this heat comes back and makesit just spread to me. Yeah,
it's it's it's been a weird upand down roller coaster with the temperature.
(01:02:59):
See, I mean what we werehere last week with heaters, and you
know, now we're in shorts andT shirts. You know. Yeah,
but you know we're gonna go downthere and we got nothing lose. We're
gonna have some fun. It's supposedto be pouring down rain. So we
gonna get out there and have agood time to that baby that off sit.
They got a lot of speed. They got speed, they got size,
they got meanness, they got strained. If for the private schools,
(01:03:21):
they'd be the best team three eighteenin the study. They are the best
three eighteen. If it wasn't forthe private code, that was hit.
Luck to me, yeah, goodluck date. I appreciate y'all. Dave
Villet, Thomasville, Friday Night again, Friday night, all right, Coach
Roger McDonald, appreciate it. Thanksso much, Thank y'all. We appreciate
look forward to seeing you next week. Coach McDonald. Here on the Coaching
Show will continue. We are onFox Sports The Game nine ten thirteen ten
(01:03:43):
am now as the Cmas are underwayon ninety seven point seven Kicker FM,
and we're back with more right afterthis. We're back Fox Sports nine ten
thirteen ten am. In the GameNow is coverage of the High School Coaches
Show continuing here. I'm Van Rickzimper De Martin Mitchell, who's on assignment
(01:04:04):
tonight. Jeff Sasser, he's atthe Good Yeah, he he's at the
Goods tonight. Well we got coachSmitti Grider though in the house. Benjamin
Russell Wildcat's a good road win lastweek against a good Valley team. Coach,
congratulations, thank you. It wasa hard fault. Valley gave us
everything we wanted. They've got somereally good players, boy, they do.
And you know that that quarterback Iwas telling Coach Hunter earlier, I
(01:04:26):
think he's grown about three or fourinches since he played up like a couple
of years ago. Six four sixtyfive. Yeah, he's and he can
run. He spent and they gota receiver. Man, that's uh.
They got off the basketball court thatI told him somebody while to go.
He's playing the wrong sport, man. He's an SEC receiver if he if
he's stuck the football, I knowexactly what you talking about. I can't
think of his name. I thinkhe's their simmer on the back, number
(01:04:47):
three six six. Yeah. Butthat dude can run, man, he
ain't he's not. I mean,he can go. I think they got
the whole basketball team just about out. I think they do too. They
got the majority of them. Andthen you know those kids are they're they're
helping them. Man. They gota good group, and you know,
we we were short a couple ofguys and you know, they held out
(01:05:08):
there running back too, so youknow it was you know, they they
got a good team. So yeah, it was a challenge and it really
was good for us because we thethree weeks before that, we've been playing
in the phone booths man. Weplayed you know, smash mouth teams that
you know, want to pound theball and run it right at you,
and so we needed a game wheresomebody spread it out. And it was
(01:05:29):
a good point. I think Brettand I was listening to Brett and Randy
I was watching the NFHS broadcast, and they said the exact same thing.
They said, boy, this isa great experience for us because we're going
to see a team like this inthe playoffs and we you know, haven't
you know, the best just everalweeks. Yeah, and we needed it.
You know, they exposed us onsome things that we need to be
better at and uh and so youknow, it gave us a chance to
(01:05:51):
get better at those things hopefully thisweek because you know, we got Linear
coming in and they're very similar. They like to throw it down the field
and you know, and they gotan athletic quarterback, and we got you
know, we didn't do a goodjob of keeping the duly kid in the
pocket. He was able to breakthe pocket on us and make plays and
uh, you know, some thingswe had to fix and hopefully we've done
(01:06:13):
that this week. For a whilethere it was they would score, you
would score, they would score, you were score, and you're wondering,
boy, it's going to be downto whoever has the ball last. But
you're able to kind of give yourselfa cushion there in the second half and
makes a big plays. Yeah,we had some guys step up, so
Darrin Morgan he had two big touchdowncatches, h long plays and David lost
in number eight for us is man. He is such a great kid.
(01:06:34):
He's kind of, you know, the guy nobody talks about. You know,
we've got the other three that getall the attention, and you know,
he had six or eight catches andone hundred and thirty yards and a
touchdown and he's developed into that guythat a third down he's gonna find a
way to get us the first downand make plays. And I'm so happy
for him. Such a great kid. He blocks, he's unselfish, and
(01:06:56):
he's really had the last you know, three or four weeks. He's had
a room really good games and madea difference for us. And David made
some big plays Friday night, anduh, you know he's a guy that
now Gabe, I think he kindof tries to find him on third downs
when we got to have a playand uh, because David's gonna find that
soft spot in his own and getopen and he catches the ball and uh,
and so you know, it wasgood to get some other guys,
(01:07:19):
uh, some attention. You know, our running back, he's he's right
at nine hundred yards on the seasonand uh, you know, and he's
he's had a great year and anduh and we've been able to run the
ball a lot more effectively this yearbecause of him and our the development of
our offensive line. Some times ofgames as you're running back, I think
he had twenty carries. Yeah, and Gabe threw it twenty two times.
(01:07:44):
Okay, So I mean you haveany other backs you run, coach,
Yeah, well, our our histhe other running back we got he's he
uh, he's fighting an ankle andhe hadn't played much. Uh, but
you know, Gabe runs it andsome of the other guys out of the
backfield run it. So you know, I think I think we ran sixty
something plays. So I mean wehad at least ten, ten or fifteen
(01:08:05):
more carries from somebody, right,I'll tell you six A. We were
talking about one A and I thinksix A and I've seen it for years,
but six A has got so manytalented teams, especially in the South.
Yeah, it's a it's a gauntlet. Man. When you look at
the South bracket and you think about, if we're fortunate enough to win,
we're probably gonna play Theodore, andif we win that one, we're probably
(01:08:29):
gonna play Spanish Fork. And ifyou win that one, you get to
play sarah Land and if you winthat one, you get to play play
Chalkwell, So go through that allright, And then Sarah Lane still got
to beat Hillcrest Tuscaloosa, who's undefeated. Uh and then Muscle Shoals is undefeated.
In the North, six A isthe deepest bracket. Uh. Oh,
(01:08:49):
yeah, it's a It's a tough, tough road. And Theodore,
a team that already knocked off Opallike it, and they've got coach Steve
Mass that's right, and then youknow they they're and then you got Pike
Road. We didn't even mention them. Yeah, you know Pike Roads down
there, and they'll end up they'replaying Homewood in the first round, and
Homewood's a four seed, so that'snot a gimme for Seed to play.
(01:09:09):
And it's, uh, you know, it's very challenging, and you're gonna
if you win six a you've earnedit, and uh, you know it's
it's a you can but well, you know, we got to look at
the one in front of us.You can't get caught up in that and
start worrying about, well, heck, we can we beat so and so
or whatever. You know, wegot we got to beat lan near Friday
night, and uh you know that'sthey've got a good group coming and you
know they're gonna be fired up becauseit's when they lose Lanear football is over.
(01:09:32):
I didn't even see, how's hueyTown this year? Well that's hue
Town's who Theodore plays. So weget the winter of that game if we
win Friday. So either one ofthem, you know, if you played
huey Town last last year, andthey they've got a lot of they don't
have the quarterback, but they've goteverybody else back and you know, they
do a good job over there. They're very fast. Where they had a
good one last year, you're justthere forever and said he was a good
(01:09:54):
play. But so yeah, it'sit's gonna be, you know, five
weeks a tough football. If youget this, it is, you know,
I you know, I hadn't reallythought about that, but you got
coach outball. Clay Chalk will beatThompson right, Sara Lane's will beat the
brakes off everybody they played. Yep, could very well be the best team
in the state in any classification, right, but not so sure. Clay
(01:10:17):
Chalk will ain't the best. Youknow, it's I'm telling you man,
it's it's loaded. And uh,you know we we're here. We are
a little old Benjamin Russell. Nowyou know, we're twenty kids from five
A and we got to play allthese work as well. You know,
I tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna battle them, and uh,
you know our kids. We gota great group of kids that are
fun to coach. You know, they're fun to be around. It's the
(01:10:38):
most fun team I've ever had, just enjoyed practice. They practice well,
and you know, it's a it'sa good and we got we got some
athletes, and uh, you know, it's a good group. They're fun
to hang around and fun to watchplay when they're playing. Well, a
lot of your guys play basketball too. I know they're athletic too. We
have. I guarantee you nobody insix A has more two and three sport
(01:10:58):
athletes than we do. There's noway. I probably have fifteen or twenty
three sport athletes. Yeah, andthen you know, god knows how many
just two sports. It's everybody playseverything at our school and that's good.
I like it. All the coachesworked together, you know, there's no
we don't have any issues with it. You know, it's it's it's a
throwback, you know to the olddays when you played everything. Is wrestling
(01:11:23):
still big? Oh yeah, itis, It's always been. I got
several wrestlers on the football team.Okay, I didn't know if if it
still is. It is it isis now. You know, they hadn't
been as successful the last few yearsas they used to be. But Michael
Ransas's wrestling coach. He's also aschool board member, and he does a
great job. I don't remember him. He wrestled at Benjamin Russell. Uh,
(01:11:45):
and uh, he does a greatjob. And he did wrestle benjam
Russell when you was coaching at Overlike it did. No, it was
before then, Okay, it wasbefore then, he was. It was
when I was still in Montgomery,Okay. Uh. But uh, he
does a great job. And theyyou know, every year they're gonna have
you know, three or four guysthat are gonna be, you know,
in the running to win the state. And it's a big red wrestling's important.
(01:12:06):
I got to I got a textin from a coach. I'm not
gonna tell you who. I'll tellyou later. He said, the game's
Thursday, so you need to bethere. It's not Friday. So am
I saying Friday? I guess Ididn't catch it either. Well it's tomorrow
night. About that. I know, don't be a day late. Make
you're there. Wow, you know, I'm so used to saying Friday.
There's a lot of Thursday games thisweek. And I guess the rain you
(01:12:27):
know, well, we we didit before that, but a lot of
people have moved it since because therain's coming. You know, we're out
of school Friday, and I didn'twant to have to deal with you know,
what are we gonna gonna bring thekids in at what time? What
are we gonna do with them allday? Uh? So you know,
the coach at Lanier and I talkedlast week and uh he was felt the
same way. So you know,we're gonna play tomorrow night and hopefully we'll
(01:12:49):
have a big crowd, you know, since school's out and all that good
stuff, and we'll get a trueday off. The last time we did
this was when we played Pelham andwe were out of school that that Friday.
And I'm gonna tell you what, that was a nice day off.
Many you'll be playing football on Novemberninth. That's always good playing in November,
right, that's right, you know, and getting to play when the
time changes and all that stuff wasgetting dark. And the Alexander City Parks
(01:13:13):
and record how that feel looking goodtoo? They ain't got to worry about
heat time out. Yeah, man, let me tell you something. They
do an incredible job. Man.I don't know if you all noticed our
field. It is unbelievable. Isay it. It's the best natural grass
surface in the state in high schoolno doubt. All right, tomorrow night
against Sidney Lanier in Benjamin Russell thatis COACHMMITTI Grider will take a quick break.
(01:13:33):
We'll come back more. The HighSchool Coaches Show continues right after this
time out here on the Fox Sportsthe Game. Back to the High School
Coaching Show. We'll come to youlive from Moe's Original Barbecue. It's brought
to you by the Worspeedy Clinic,Mo's Original Barbecue, Fox Forts the Game
(01:13:55):
and Kicker ninety seven point seven LeeCounty's as Country and we got Coach Wigan
from those last week you were off. So yeah, y'all get some guys
held up ready to go. Wedid, we did, but like I
always say this this morning the season, you know, I don't think any
scene was really just one hundred percent, But uh we got some guys,
got some good rest, and uh, I think we're going in. It's
(01:14:18):
it's it's best we can right now. All right, you got two seed
Mallory this tomorrow night, Tomorrow night, we actually got to change the game
changed from Friday till tomorrow night.Let's see, memory was eighty two coach
five and one in the region. So, uh, let me see in
that one region they probably lost thelee roll. Yeah who else were they
(01:14:42):
are two s they lost them andthey probably region game. It could have
been anybody, Yes, it couldhave been Mobile Christian, somebody I don't
know who was talk about memory coach. They're a good team, They're physical,
they like the ball. I thinkif we can stop their run and
(01:15:05):
force them to throw the ball alittle bit, I think we can have
a chance to pull upset. Soyou want to make them do something they
don't want, to make them dosomething that they don't like. They don't
necessarily do the best. And that'sthe game plan going on. That's the
game plan going in. Hi,your team, what do you what do
(01:15:27):
we got to do? Offensively?Limit mistakes, all the silly turnovers,
uh, silly penalties, the falsestar penaties, personal fire things that we
can stay away from all of that. Like I said, I've been saying
all year, I think we Ilike my chances against anybody some big players
get ahead of them and hit themall. Frustrate a little bit, Yes,
(01:15:50):
sir, that's always a planet.Get teams to a point where they're
just out of you know what, they usually do. I saw a team
one time. Coach run the footballthe entire and use the entire first quarter
twelve minutes and kick the field goalwith three seconds into the second quarter.
(01:16:12):
Yep, yep. Of course, you know they kick off of the team
scores real quick, and they gothree and out, and the team scores
another time real quick, and thenit's over because they can't. They don't
do that. They don't do catchup football. Yeah, they got to
do possessions. And like we said, if we come out and we start
fast and get up on them early, I think we will be good in
(01:16:36):
a good situation and in a goodposition to close out the game and take
that that win. Coach, I'mlooking at the map here, man,
it's almost four hours. You're almostto Mississippi. Yeah, and you know,
you know the teams they played andthe teams they've beat. But sometimes
when you tell these kids you're goingto play Millory, it just doesn't register.
(01:16:56):
I mean, it's hard to kindof tell them, hey, this
is it's a good football team.No Millory, you've never heard of before.
It's four hours away in the middleof nowhere. There's no It's kind
of like we say, there's noway to get there. You know,
you got to go back roads, windy roads, and uh, but I
know you got to get them focusedin and how do you do that exactly?
So, like I said, we'vehad two weeks to kind of get
(01:17:18):
prepared, so we've kind of justbeen preaching, just understanding our phone and
make sure we watched a lot offilm so we kind of know Tennessee's show
them, show them on they are, this is how good they are.
So I think our guys understand that, and I think we're ready to play.
(01:17:44):
Like I said, we just gotto limit the penalties in the in
the and just limit turnovers, andI think we'll be fine. Are you
playing tomorrow night on a Thursday andit's four hour trip? How do you?
How do you? How do youplaying your day out tomorrow? You
gotta I'm sure you gotta be evenearly. Yeah, we're leaving. I
think we're leaving at like ten. We're going to stop in Montgomery to eat
(01:18:08):
around leven and then we'll stop againbefore we get there to kind of stretch
more. It's a little bit moreand we were able to get us a
charter bus, so we'll be kindof comfortable on there. So, like
we said, I always feel thatwe're comfortable getting there on time. When
we're getting there, I think we'llbe fine. Our coach, good luck.
(01:18:30):
That's a long trip. Safe travelstoo, as used to travel to
Mellory Tomorrow. No thea Saga BlueDevil's Travel and take on Melory tomorrow night,
kick off seven o'clock. Yes,sir, yes, sir, coach,
appreciate the time, Thanks so muchfor being with us. Okay,
all right, go Blue, thankgus. Luck not the Sauga in the
house. We close things out.The Auburn High Tigers coach Keith Etheridge just
coming in on the way next aswe continue here again on Fox Sports nine
(01:18:53):
ten thirteen ten am for the remainderof the Coaches Show tonight. We'll be
back right after this. All rightback high school. Yeah, I'm DJing
it over here, Coach Etharde,I gotta going on scratching, scrapping,
what do they call scratching? Scratching? Now, I don't do scratching.
(01:19:15):
High School Coaches Show, Fox Sportsnine, ten thirteen ten am. The
Game CMA Awards going on on ninetyseven point seven kickm So glad you carried
over with us here at Fox Sportsthe game as we close things out with
coach Keith Ethridge and the Auburn HighTigers. Boy, what a what a
wild Friday night trying to figure everythingout of if you're hosted, of you
going on the road. Unfortunately, you coach, you kind of got the
(01:19:38):
on raw end on that one andyou go on the road. Hey,
look, well as long as we'restill playing, Hey, there you go.
I said it, no matter whereyou get in, just get in
fine line in seven a reaching to, isn't it? Oh god, it's
it's unbelievable. You know, oneone point decides here, one points out
there. I tell somebody this morning, they said, I can't believe we
got the three. I said, look, I'm glad we got the three.
(01:19:58):
I said, we're two points frommaking it in. I said,
we get beaten, we win doubleover time game against Othan, We went
a game, you know, lastminute against Okla, Like that's two points.
We're two points away from not makingit in. And I didn't realize
that. You know, we weretalking, and you know, if you
looks the opal like a game, you're not in the playoffs. Yeah that's
right. Yeah, it's it's anopal like it goes in. Yeah,
(01:20:21):
that's right, it's it's that fineline in that riginal just I mean fraction,
you know, And that's that's justa testament to our region because our
region is so tough, man,I mean our regions. You know,
I said it at the beginning ofthe year. There's gonna be some really
good teams that don't make the playoffs. Yeah, you know, and that's
sad, but you know, Imean it is what it is. They're
(01:20:44):
from really good teams up in thatregion, up and with Hoover and those
guys that didn't make it. Yeah, Well that the win you mentioned it
at Dothan. You went on theroad and played them in overtime right after
you didn't have a quarterback after welost our quarter So how big of a
win that, boy was? Thatwas huge one. That was a huge
win. I think that, youknow, and I think that that win
right there did a lot for ourprogram, did a lot for us this
(01:21:08):
year, showing you know, howresilient we was, how you know with
our defense. You know, welost our mental linebacker in that game and
at the first of the in thefirst quarter, he was out and we
lost him for two weeks from aconcussion. You know. So it's we've
been to some earlier. I feellike I feel like we've been piecing things
(01:21:30):
together all year. There was aguy, we got to feel this guy,
We got to move this other guyto make us as good as we
can bet. You know. Butyou know I think that as a coach,
You know, it makes you lookback and appreciate those times when you
don't lose nobody all year love youknow so, and you see teams that
have done it and coaches that havedone it, and you you grow a
lot of respect for those guys. You know, I don't basically scheduled it
(01:21:54):
easy. When you got a nineteam region, you know, you got
eight games that's on that. Butmy goodness, coach, yeah, day
eight teams you gotta play, Yeah, and then that and then two in
non region. You know, it'sit's been tough for us to find games.
So we played the defending state hampRamsey in five A and then we
play Hoover, you know, bothat their place too, Both at their
(01:22:15):
place is exactly right. You know. We didn't even get a home game
with Hoover because we played them inthe Classic last year, so you know,
we're still gonna be We're gonna belooking for games this year. And
I think that, you know,I don't know what the regions are going
to do because I know that Sydney, Lanier and Carver combine and combining,
and that's gonna make a seven dayschool, I think. And you can't
(01:22:36):
start calling people now because you don'tknow. Maybe a ten team region.
We play Carver in spring game usually, Yeah, so they may be in
our region, you know, younever know, it may knock somebody out
of our region too, and wemay end up still playing somebody that's in
the region right now, you know, possible. Sure, Well, you
go to Baker. That's a teamI know, a team from the region
(01:22:58):
played and both and went and onthe road and took care of them.
But they're eight and two, fiveand one. Yeah, you can't really,
I know, look too much intowhat Dothan did against them. You
know, you're going to play agood football team, right We're gonna play
a really good football team. Theirquarterback is a Missipi State commit, got
a Auburn committed receiver who's got closeto you know, seven eight hundred yards
receiving got to know the kid that'scommitted Detroy playing receiver. They're running backs
(01:23:20):
really good. They went and beatMountain Brooke. Nobody thought they were going
to do that. Yeah, Imean they've got a really good football team.
That quarterback is a handful to stopthere and a lot of people that
stopped them. You know. They'veturned the ball over some in some games.
They did it against Dothan, youknow, and Dothan had a really
good game plan against them. Ithink that and they had not seen that
(01:23:41):
offense too. It's hard to playthat offense if you hadn't seen it.
You know. They came out inthe second half and I think it was
either fourteen seven or seven seven athalftime, and then both came out in
the second half and got some turnovers, pushed got the ball in the N
zone a couple of times, andthen I think, you know, it's
one of them things if we cando that, if we can get a
and force Baker to do some thingsthat's not comfortable doing, we got a
(01:24:03):
chance to you know, uh,you know, push them into that uncomfortable
zone. And I think that weneed to do that. We don't need
to it, don't need to bea thing that comes down to the last
play because they got some playmakers. How big is it the games you've won
on the road. Got to giveyour team and your guy's confidence loading up
(01:24:23):
and going on the road. Yeah. Yeah, we're underfeedial on the road,
right, Yeah, so road warriorsso are. And our kids have
found ways to win. You know. Uh we have always hadn't played better
than the teams we're playing, butwe always find ways to win at the
end. And you know that's atestament to these kids. They don't ever
quit. They scrap and fight. And I've been really really proud of them
this year. I think that,uh, you know, we've got a
(01:24:45):
lot of kids that are overachievers. You know they do they get in there
and they just won't give up.They scrap and fight. It's kind of
like that picture of that frog that'sgetting swallowed by that bird and he's got
his hand around his necks. Thatdon't ever give up. In your quarterback
position was one that was thinned foryou. Now you've got a room for
kind of full absolutely, And youknow I've talked about this. You know,
(01:25:05):
we got Henry Allen, who's who'slike a tim t Bow type.
And then we got Jackson Kilgore who'sslinging around like a little Payton Manning type.
We got I'm telling and Max Hammerhas gotten better every single week.
The tenth grader, so he's areally good player. Crossfold louthors you'll be
back this week. And then wegot a young kid who's a ninth grader
who's going to be really really good. He's you know, he's came up
(01:25:28):
and started practicing with us and it'sslinging around Upton. So I mean,
those are those are some good kids, and they're they're they're getting better and
better every single week. That runningback you've got too is a tough one
boy. We got too. Youknow, we got Flakes who's a senior,
and Omar Maps and Mabson's the oneboy. He's hard to bring down.
He's shifting. There's not much thetackle there. He is a stump.
(01:25:49):
You know, he benches three twentyfive squats five hunder. You know,
he's already got D one offers.He he is a load. I
said it somebody today Coach called wastalking to me and I said, you
know, he's a kid that willbe mentioned in the Mister Football in the
next two years. I promise youhe's that type of player. And he's
just a sophomore. Just sophomore, coach, he didn't tell me that.
(01:26:11):
Boy, he's good stuff. Betough to deal with the next two years.
He's a great kid, a fourpoint oh student, a great ambassador
for the program. He's one ofthose kids that he's a generational type of
kid. You know, you don'tget to coach me any like that.
I can't remember the numbers in theopal like a game, and I know
he had well over one hundred yardsin that game. He had six carries
last week for one hundred and thirtyfive year pards Endurance coaches good. He
(01:26:38):
can carry the ball thirty times.Yeah, I'm telling you he carried it
twenty one or twenty two aver carriedat the bunch. You lost a linebacker,
right, we did? We lostit? Uh. Now, you
know, maybe I ought to bringthis up, but you know, we
talked about maybe one of your quarterbackscould play linebackers. Yeah, Henry ally
can play anywhere. And I actuallytold Henry walking By the other day,
(01:26:59):
I said, we want more linebacker, Henry. You know you may be
back here playing linebacker. He goescoach, I'll do whatever you need me
to do. He's a great kid. And I said he's a warrior.
You know. I talked to ourmiddle school coach, and our middle school
coach said, he's the best linebackerI've ever coached. Coach Simo may get
a little nervous though, when hestarts playing linebacker. He might come over
there and go, hey, coach, he talked to you. You would
(01:27:20):
not believe this. Coach Simo isthe one that says he needs to be
playing football. He needs me.He told him, there or something.
You need to be out there playingfootball. You need to be out there
playing for y'all. And uh,you know, and they're they're all about
it. I mean, he's havinga blast. And that's what it's all
about. I tell our kids allthe time. You know, this is
supposed to be fun. You know, go out and have a great time.
(01:27:41):
You know, win or lose, you know, leave it all out
there on the field and have agood time. Enjoy your high school career.
And this is supposed to be fun. Don't put a lot of pressure
on yourself. Make memories, gonnlast your lifetime. You you, I
bet you remember when you played youremever, you man, that's one of
the best days of my life. And I want these kids to have that
same that same, those same memories. Yeah, them had leather helmets when
(01:28:03):
he played. We probably right thesave base. He's over kicking you and
kicking me at time, man, believe it or not. We even had
face masks. Really, Yeah,we want the one bar. I think
it was three, about three, you know, there were a lot of
those there. Hey, I'm fortynext week, so I'm getting there,
(01:28:25):
you know, ye what I do? Yeah, I had the kids almost
Hey on the road. You're you'replaying Friday night. Friday night, all
right at Baker all right, theschool's out, so you kind of got
the whole day to kind of getdown, right. Yeah, we'll come
in. I bring kids in aboutten, fifteen, ten thirty, you
know, and then we'll we'll probablyleave or ten, and we'll probably leave
(01:28:46):
around eleven o'clock. Grab, they'llgrab about to eat, and we'll get
on the bus and relax, andthen they'll they'll on the way down there,
we'll stop, stretch our legs alittle bit, maybe do a walk,
food, you know, go eat, know, about three and just
relax. You know, just enjoythe enjoy the trip and you know,
soak it up. Let the kidssoak it all in. Well, good
(01:29:09):
loodachs, Thank you guys. Imean we're going down there and you know,
guns and blazing. Hey if weif we don't win, we they
ain't gonna be able to say wedidn't try. Hey, we had twelve
teams to tonight. That's awesome toplayoff. I hope we have eleven back
