What's going on, coach, It's.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Hard to believe it's already back.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
It is here, and you know what's crazy, it'll be
here and we're looking up at football right now.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
In a few weeks, will I mean baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
In a few weeks, we'll be looking up there and
we'll be football on the strolled out here. But that's right, man,
good one to start to show off, how.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
You don I'm doing great, doing great, good deal, had
had a great summer and you know we're just ready
ready to get it kicked off.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Man, a good deal. Are you gonna kick it off?
You got Booker High School out of Florida, and that's Sarasota, right,
they're right out of the Sarasota Anrisota, Florida. All right,
So give me a little bit about Booker.
Speaker 6 (01:45):
Uh tremendously athletic. You know, they've got a great football team.
Got a lot of d one guys on that on
their squad. Yeah, they've they've got athletes all over the place.
You know, they got the number two corner in the nation. Uh,
it's on the team. They've got a defense end that's
committed to Indiana. They've got a receiver's committed to Pitt.
(02:06):
They've got I mean, they've got players all over the place.
You know, quarterback who has old mess offer, you know,
just big got some big time guys, you know. And
you know the thing is, those ain't the only guys
they got. Their other guys are really really good too,
so good on offense, front, really good on the defensive
side of all. They fly to the football really fast,
(02:28):
really physical upfront on defense, and really big upfront on offense.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
So you know.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
They've got a they've got all the all the workings
to be a really good team. They were semi final teams. Yeah,
semi final team last year. Got eight guys, eight or
nine guys back on defense, seven eight guys back on
offense for the toive offensive lineman's back.
Speaker 7 (02:49):
You know.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
So they've got a really really good football team.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, very So this is not this, several people, this
isn't the same team you played. Explain that different, completely different.
They were from Miami, but they're here Florida and anything
the same thing.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, absolutely, all right, you're.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Starting to mean to coach off forty one and nine
and four seasons, unbelieved one ninety one wins in nineteen
seasons as a head coach, of course, went ten and one.
Speaker 8 (03:13):
Last year.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Here, coach, tell me about.
Speaker 8 (03:15):
Your football team.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
This year, got a great group of guys. You know,
we're not We're not. You know every year I say this,
We're not going to go out and have athlete people.
But our kids play hard, they play smart.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
They they're kids that do what you coach them to do.
And they were out work everybody else. I mean, they
work hard, our kids, you know, all summer long. They
come in, they work out, they get after it, they
do the little things you ask them to do. You know,
I'm it kind of worries me. It's not having a
spring game, not having a Drawberry games. I want to
be you know, you want to be Chris, but it's
(03:50):
hard to do when you haven't had a chance to
play against somebody else.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, they're tired of hitting each other. Yeah, yeah, let's
go to the offense. So I know people usually go to.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
David's start with a quarterback, your captain of your team,
not that he's the captain, but the man behind the
scenes there.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
Yeah, well we're gonna we'll start. We'll start right now.
We're looking at starting Casey Myers and then cross Land's
gonna play some too though, so you'll see both those
guys Friday night. Both of them are great young men.
Both of them, you know, are good, really good football players.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
They you know, uh a little they're a little bit different.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Both of them can spind it, you know, uh.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Case and very very athletic.
Speaker 6 (04:30):
You know, cross is a coach's son, so you know,
he understands the game. Uh, they're they're both really quality
young men. So I feel we feel really good with
either one of those guys. And then we got some
young guys that you may see a little bit of them.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Well now you know you talked about your defensive side now, yeah,
all right, so.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
Yeah, you've got we've got some dudes up front on this. Yeah,
we got some guys. Uh, you know, Cornell Jackson's a
kid who's committed to Arkansas. You know Aiden, ye know
you Aiden who's uh, he's got multiple d one offers.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Greg Williams is North Alabama commit.
Speaker 9 (05:07):
Uh B J.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Collins is a is a West Georgia commit. Gaston Alex
Gampson's really good football player, plays linebacker for us. To
Hunter Brown's a kid, you'll you're here. His name Tomorrow Night,
Lane Edden. I mean, I'm sorry, I think so Edden's
gonna be a kid that's gonna play Tomorrow Night.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
He's he's on.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
That defensive front by our sock, Cam Creighton. You know
a list of names that you know you'll hear, you know,
really high on kid named Eli he is.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
He is a phenomenal athlete, let it.
Speaker 8 (05:44):
Kid, and he's an outside rush guy.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
So you know in secondary we've got two two seniors
back there and two juniors. So really really looking forward
to c and Tess Cook.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
And those guys play.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
I jumped to defense before. You should have a running
back name, more more maps than if you.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Didn't go early. He didn't, if he didn't leave ready
for the pro.
Speaker 10 (06:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Yeah, we're we're sitting there.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
We got Yeah, we're super crowded, super proud of war.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
He's he's had a great, great off season at Auburn University,
and you know he's he's gonna do big things. We
knew that for him. They were talking to me about
red Shirt and us that dude gets on.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
He's got just gonna step in.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Yeah, yeah, we do.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
We got we you know, we had a kid we
moved from linebacker to running back and he probably won't
play tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
So he got dehydrated.
Speaker 6 (06:33):
So he's he's a kid that's you know, we're gonna,
we're gonna, you know, make sure he's completely well before
we put him back in there. So he's probably gonna
be out this week, you know, possibly play next week,
maybe not, you know, I mean, but he got long season.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
He got de hydrated the other day and and uh he.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
Was actually spend a couple of days in the hospital.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
You know.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
Well just our body aches so bad and it makes
you really sore because you know, those those muscles are
you can't do anything. I felt Jalen Hufts the kid
that will play there. And then in our receiving group
and our offensive line is veteran guys, you know, so
receiving groups one of the best groups I've had a
long time. And I expect our quarterbacks to be able
(07:18):
that they put it.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
On the money.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah, we jumped, my daughter, got up my grandson, and
we jumped.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
An offensive line wise, we got Trent and Pritchett, who's
a d one kid. Tucker al Ben, we got r. R. J.
Is going to have a big year. He's a sophomore
that all start.
Speaker 8 (07:36):
For us this year.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
He's going to be really, really special. You know, Sphinx
has had a really good off season. You know, we've
got some other guys that are stepping.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
In there and doing a really good job.
Speaker 11 (07:47):
So just looking for some big things out of those
guys real quick.
Speaker 6 (07:50):
Colin King and Joel. Joel, he's got the Army offer.
He's got about that Alibi, I mean, he's unbelievable, he's unbelievable. Great,
and we got the number one kicker in that night,
that great class in Vienna.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Coaches call, all right, coach, good see Keith, thank you,
thank you, buddy, appreciate you, sir, God bless go Tiger Tigers.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Keith Ethers Auburn High School. And we'll take a break.
Brian Moore or one of these coaches we got in
the house. We'll be up next here from the Coaches
Show at most Barbecue as we continue on the kick.
Speaker 12 (08:20):
All right, Welcome back, High School Coaches Show. Van Rix
jumping in here for de Mark and Jeff, and we're excited.
This is the first night of the High School Coaches
Show back here live at Mose Barbecue, Bent Creek here
in Auburn. Beautiful location, and we're excited. We got a
pile of schools rolling in and we got a brand
new school that is for football. Not a brand new school,
but Trinity Christian here in Oplelaka starting their first season
(08:42):
as a football program, and coach Mike Adams is joining
up with us.
Speaker 8 (08:45):
Coach.
Speaker 12 (08:45):
We We're glad to have you at media days, glad
to have you here.
Speaker 8 (08:48):
On the Coaches Show. Welcome in, well, thank you so much.
Tell us about the process.
Speaker 12 (08:52):
I know you're eager you get an open week before
so you're not playing this week before action gets going.
But I know the guys are really excited, probably chomping
at the bit to get out there.
Speaker 8 (09:00):
They really are.
Speaker 13 (09:02):
We uh, but we're very fortunate to have what uh.
I don't know that the AI s A intended us
to uh to have this open week necessarily to help
our team, but it really has because you know, being
a new team and only having four boys, that you know,
have played before.
Speaker 8 (09:19):
It's it's this.
Speaker 13 (09:21):
Really critical force to have his additional time. And yeah,
uh but the boys there are absolutely like you said,
they're chumping at the bed there. They're ready to get
out and hit somebody other than their teammates.
Speaker 12 (09:31):
And it's worth noting you're gonna be playing in the
eight man classification, which is just really blossomed in the AISSA.
I think it's been one of the uh, one of
the things that's really taken off and and a lot
of teams that were playing eleven jump to eight just
for numbers and reasons and that sort of thing. So
it's a really strong division. And you're gonna play Springwood
next week to kick the season off, a team that's
really dominated that eight man classification.
Speaker 8 (09:50):
That's right.
Speaker 13 (09:51):
We uh kind of a good and a bad.
Speaker 8 (09:54):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (09:54):
You know, we're going to start out with a you know,
a team that that's very mature and uh, you know
we're but that's gonna be a good measure for us,
you know, to be able to play what we know
is going to be a very well coached, very mature team. Uh,
that that'll kind of show us where we are.
Speaker 14 (10:12):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (10:12):
And you know, I think, uh, you know, first week
spring Wood, second week Cornerstone, two extremely uh mature teams,
well coached. They're they're going to give us all that
we can handle. And and I think that'll you know,
really set a tone for the rest of the year.
You know, it's starting off with with two really good programs.
Speaker 12 (10:33):
All Right, We're talking to coach Mike Adams Trinity Christian
School here on the High School Coaches Show at Mose Barbecue.
Tell us about coach Billy Watts, who is next with
you and next to you here and and his role
on the team.
Speaker 13 (10:43):
Well, we are absolutely beyond blessed to have coach Billy.
He's had head coaching experience. He's uh, he's got years
and years of coaching experience, and he he is just
you know, he is a true assistant head coach. And uh,
you know, I don't think many programs, you know, especially
(11:06):
in an eight man division, are going to have the
quality of coach uh that we have in.
Speaker 8 (11:12):
In coach Billy.
Speaker 13 (11:13):
And he's uh, you know, he sees and he probably
knows a lot more coaches in Alabama than I do.
And this coach with a lot of folks and but
he's I mean, he's he's good on both sides of
the ball. I've asked him to be our defensive coordinator
as well, and he's you know, I think, if anything,
we're going to be very sound defensively. Uh, And I
(11:35):
think a lot of that we're gonna we we have
to attribute to him and and his his ability to
be tough but to love on those kids and that
the pushmim as far as.
Speaker 8 (11:45):
They can go and get the best out of them. Coach,
what do you think about the squad coming in?
Speaker 15 (11:48):
Well, we're looking pretty good, but uh, Coach Mike gave
me some high standards a little up there.
Speaker 10 (11:52):
We've got introduction, so I've.
Speaker 11 (11:54):
Got a lot of work to do there, but uh,
we're excited.
Speaker 15 (11:58):
And I've been probably doing this since nineteen ninety six
and it's probably the smartest bunch of kids I've ever
had the opportunity to coach. They catch on pretty quick.
They're working hard and were ready to start that first
game and just see where we line up and play
the guys. They catch on real quick and we'll really
be able to see that first Thursday night. What's going
(12:21):
on in the program at Trinity Man Coach No, the
athletic director. Coach Mike, you couldn't ask for a better
bunch of guys to schools really behind the program, and man,
when you got that, you've got to build them blocks
to build a real good program. And I think that
Trinity is on the way to having a great program
and to be successful for the next few years and
(12:42):
playing eight man football.
Speaker 8 (12:43):
All right, we're talking Trinity Christian School.
Speaker 12 (12:45):
The game next week against Springwood will be a home
game and and coach, gonna be a Thursday game, right
it is, okay, Man, that will be at more Stadium, correct, Okay,
So make sure make your plans come out there and
see Trinity's first official football game. It should be an
exciting atmosphere. I know you have a lot of fans out, coach,
and we'll talk more about it next week. Looking forward
to seeing the program take off.
Speaker 8 (13:03):
Well, thank you so much for having us. Thank you.
Speaker 12 (13:05):
That's coach Mike Adams, Coach Billy Watts. Trinity Christian School
will continue with the High School Coaches Show coming up
on the Way NEX. We're live from Mose Barbecue Bitch
Creek in Auburn here on the Kicker.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Welcome back to Mose Barbecue.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
High School Coaches Show continues here at MOS. Our show
is brought to you by Gory's Furniture. Frederick Dean from
her home Orthopedict Clinic. Dean, Mark, Jeff Van and Jason
Lee here. Glad to be here every week.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Don't forget Moses open seven days a week.
Speaker 8 (13:35):
Jeff.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
We got our school that we walked the halls and
graduated from our head coach Brian Moore in his house.
Coach Moore starting the year number two, went.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Nine and three last year in his first year.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
He's got ninety five wins overall in his career and
almost ten seasons.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Coach. Good evening, Good evening.
Speaker 8 (13:50):
Glad to be here.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Yes, sir, I told coach I did my homework for him.
Speaker 7 (13:53):
You did.
Speaker 16 (13:54):
I didn't expect it.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
He worked hard, that had worked hard, right, Yeah, Week one, coach,
this is a good week.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Everybody undefeated and all got you and happy.
Speaker 10 (14:01):
That's right.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Everybody's excited, that's right exactly.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
But everybody's ready to play, right.
Speaker 5 (14:06):
Yeah, you know, it's just excited to play.
Speaker 7 (14:09):
You know.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
The energy level is a little bit different in game
week and our kids came in Sunday, started a great
week and you know, I just think they're they're really
excited about playing somebody else. And really, you know, for
our community, for our kids, our school, everybody's excited about
watching them play. Because we just have so many new faces.
We lost an incredible senior class last year, one that
really put us back, you know, where we need to be.
(14:31):
And and you know, I think that their standard was set,
the foundation was late. And I'm excited to see your
two at how our kids respond about, you know, the expectation,
because that's what we expect. We expect playoff runs and
you know, competing at the highest level in the in
the best region in football. And again we're excited to
kick it off against Ben Russell.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Benjion Russell, a series that we we trailed thirty three,
twenty nine and three. I didn't know that until I
looked it up. Well, it's kind of odd.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
But now we've dominated of late, I think fourteen out
of fifteen, sixteen out of twenty something like that, but
has been of course twenty eight fourteen last year. New
coach Kirk Johnson, the same wide receiver. Have some new
players talk about benjam Russell will come back to your team?
Speaker 5 (15:08):
Yeah, First, Kirk you know, I think he does a
great job, and obviously the work he did at Catholic
is is you know a parent of the level of
coaching that he brings. A lot of his staff came over,
so you know, for us, it's been a tear between
you know, watching Catholic film and trying to you know,
look back on Ben Russell and sort of pairing the
personnel with the scheme, and so that's been a challenge.
(15:30):
You know, I think a lot of what Coach Grider
went through with us last year, you know, with my
first year at opelakas so. But it'll be a huge crowd,
you know, d Mark, That's what I always remember about
Ben Russell. We opened that stadium in thirteen, the renovation.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Yeah, I was talking about that with Van.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Just massive crowd and Ben Russell has a lot of pride.
Alex City travels well and so we'll be excited about
Friday night and hopefully the weather will be good to us.
But you know, they got some new players obviously, you
know the receiver number one, you know, the Morgan kid
is is an elite player. I think the number one
player in Alabama by many people. And he sure looks
like it when you walk out there and cem sixty
five to twenty or whatever. He is committed Alabama. He's
(16:05):
a player, we know him. Got a big lineman that
moved in the left tackle. It's got a Kentucky offer
that's a really good player. And then a receiver from
Catholic that came in, and a linebacker from Catholic that
came in. So they've got some guys that that that
came in to help their program. Quite a few actually,
and so it'll be a lot of new faces again,
you know, just pairing that personnel with the scheme and
trying to figure out what they're gonna do. You know,
(16:25):
it's a shot in the dark at this point, honestly
for us. But I do feel prepared. Our offense gives
a lot, you know for the defense and so but
again a lot to prepare for with them and their
level of skill.
Speaker 8 (16:36):
How do you prepare? How do you how do you
prepare your dbs for these kind of Well.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
The only thing I knew to do, so we played
all over the place this summer in seven or seven,
which is different, but at least the coverage piece, you know,
and we played a couple of teams out of New Orleans,
and they had some high, really high level guys, you know,
and so we were able to see some real, you know,
high level skill. But again there's nothing like you know,
walking out there in pads with those guys. And so
(17:02):
obviously we'll have special coverages to try and you know,
at least take some of the things he does away.
He's gonna make play. It's like a basketball player. He's
gonna get he's gonna score some points and and but
you know it's our job to kind of damage control
that deal and then not let the other kids beat us.
I think, you know, he's gonna get his, but you
hopefully minimize the other guys.
Speaker 8 (17:19):
Do we have any Do we have a six five receiver?
Speaker 7 (17:21):
They can No.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I don't know if we have a six foot receiver,
but we.
Speaker 8 (17:28):
Emulate that a little bit.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
Yeah, sure, all right, Special teams coaches, Besy comes back.
Speaker 8 (17:32):
I know it's Huture.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
You talked about him that you punter talk about. I
know we lost a punter, didn't we.
Speaker 10 (17:36):
That's right, Yeah, yep.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
So reesel handle both and so the biggest you know,
he was ten of eleven on field goals last year,
made a huge one against central at the end and
you know, ice in his veins kind of guy. You know,
Reese is a perfect mentality for a kicker. He's gonna
have a great year. Camra Reley comes back as a snapper,
which is a huge deal for us. He'll be a senior.
He's a college level snapper, which will help our operational time.
And then Reese is handling, handling the punt, so that's
(17:57):
been big. It's been all about how much we can
put on his leg and not overdoing it, you know,
trying to pitch count him at practice. But I like
our special teams units. I like our returners. Biggest thing
you holder. Brody Jones was the holder last year and
that gave me a lot of comfort running that senior
out there. And so we got a tenth grade holder
with cooperl Hanlet and we feel good about him. But
that's right, So again handles the snaps all the time,
(18:20):
so that's important too.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, and your quarterback coming back, Key got caught his
dad Kobe.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Kobe has really matured over a year, gotten bigger, had
a good off season and can spend it and really
I think for him the maturation mentally has been unreal.
Just the steps he's taken to take this as his team.
You know, last year, you know, we ran the ball
seventy percent of the time, played great defense, you know,
won the kicking game. We can open it up a
(18:47):
little bit with Kobe. Kobe's got a big arm and
we've got some pieces around him. It can run and
catch it. So we're excited Offensively, I think we're further
along in a where a year ago and again can
be a little bit more spread open instead of you know,
three yards and a clouded us like last year.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Yeah, I understand that. Well, it ought to be a
great night at Bulldog Stadium. Coach, it ought to be
a big night. Like you said, open the night a lot.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Anything you're concerned about, I know a lot. But is
anything as you go in as a coach, first game at.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Home like that?
Speaker 5 (19:13):
Yeah, I mean I just think there's so many pieces
you just wonder. I mean, I like, meet extensively about
have we done everything? Have we checked every box in
regards to every end of the game type scenario that
might pop up? Are we ready for? You know, we're
up by three and we got to kick the ball off.
Do we kick in the end zone? Do we skykick it,
do we squip it? How do we handle those scenarios?
And I actually went through and met with my staff
(19:34):
today on a game manager's checklist about field goal range
and all those kinds of things, because we want to
play the game Before we play it, you know, my
mindset's already. You know, all the calls are done, you know,
unless there's an unforeseen deal or an injury, and we
want to be prepared for every moment. So that's what
I wracked my brain on. But our kids have worked
really hard and I know they'll play.
Speaker 8 (19:52):
Well, what's what's our max distance on a What are
you comfortable with?
Speaker 10 (19:56):
Phil?
Speaker 8 (19:58):
Fifty two?
Speaker 5 (19:58):
I think got to get to the thirty five or
in Babe, I would say in a in a normal
scenario at thirty and n we can stretch it to
the thirty five.
Speaker 10 (20:05):
He got to hit it well.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
But he's made a fifty seven yarder in practice.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Yeah, a good leg and he's putting.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
Too, he's hitting him good. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Well, coach, thanks for being here. Appreciate you Friday, okay, sir,
thank you, yes, sir. More the Bulldogs Friday Night Benjamin
Russell at Bullydauk Stadium We're at Moe's Barbecue.
Speaker 8 (20:23):
High School Coaching Show continues in a moment. Hey, welcome
back to the High School Coaching Show. We're coming to
you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. And thank you to
(20:45):
our sponsors Gorye's Furniture, the Orthopedic Clinic, Frederick Dean Funeral Home,
and of course Moe's Original Barbecue. And we got coach
Joey Birch from Springwood School. Good afternoon, Coach, how are you.
Speaker 16 (20:56):
I'm done great?
Speaker 8 (20:57):
A little hot, but a little warm this week? Well,
you know what, coach, I was thinking about this, It
could be worse. It's August. I've seen some one hundred
degree days.
Speaker 16 (21:07):
I mean, just be getting older.
Speaker 17 (21:09):
I talked to coach a local posta in there, and
that's what he said, We just getting older.
Speaker 16 (21:12):
It seems like the hottest we ever lived.
Speaker 8 (21:14):
I can't remember. We had a stretch one year like
eight or nine days in a row. It is touching
one hundred. But that's it's still hot, and it's Alabama,
and it's muggy, and it doesn't take long to start loves.
Speaker 9 (21:23):
And you know we're out there having a good one.
Speaker 16 (21:26):
We're getting ready.
Speaker 8 (21:27):
We'll coach you got you're opening up next week next Friday,
Kusa Valley, and you have played them. You're twenty and
four all time versus in you know that.
Speaker 17 (21:37):
And you we were one and old versus last year,
fifty eight to fourteen last year.
Speaker 8 (21:42):
Tell me about CUSA Valley.
Speaker 17 (21:44):
You know, you know all of us eight men are
just struggling. That's why we're playing eight man to get
bodies on the team. I have about fifteen or sixteen kids,
and that's count the eighth grader eight then a couple
of ninth graders along in there, and I think they're
the same way they sent the raw Trump and they
got thirteen fourteen players. So you know, it comes down
to good coaching and who's in the best shape and
(22:06):
and uh, who doesn't get hurt.
Speaker 16 (22:08):
I mean, if you get an injury to you know,
one of your main.
Speaker 17 (22:10):
Guys, you have to rearrange all your offense. So, uh,
you know, we've got plans for that. We hope we
don't have to use it.
Speaker 8 (22:18):
Do you do you use every one of them?
Speaker 10 (22:20):
Coaches?
Speaker 8 (22:20):
You say sixteen, I'm just asking you.
Speaker 16 (22:24):
We're going to try to you know, we want to
put them in.
Speaker 17 (22:26):
You don't want to put a kid out there in
a situation where they can't be successful or they may
get hurt or something like that.
Speaker 16 (22:32):
But uh, we will play ten. I've got ten that
are very good football players.
Speaker 17 (22:37):
And uh and then after that, we, of course, we
have some international kids that this is the first time
I've ever seen a football and some of them never
watched a football game until like Friday night. And they'll
get to play a couple of snaps. So uh uh yeah,
I'm telling them that I don't know if we play everybody,
but I'm telling a little ladies right here out to
(22:58):
look at them in the eye today and say, son,
you don't have to play Friday night?
Speaker 8 (23:01):
Right, well fifty eight fourteen coach, when do you put
surely they get in with I hope the scores that
this year. Yeah, so so everybody does play, Yes, yes, yes,
tell me about your team. Go, Well, you know, we
had to really talk about Cusive. Let's talk about Cousis Valley.
Speaker 17 (23:14):
Well, I don't know a whole lot about them, since
we hadn't seen any film so far on them. Uh
do know, you know their numbers. I know they were
turning several of the players last year and Uh, they've
got a pretty good little quarterback. I think it's gonna
be a lot of quarterback run. They had the kid
transfer in. He had played at uh Evangel Alabaster and
(23:35):
they have a pretty good program. He played tight in there.
I believe in linebacker. So he's gonna be a quarterback linebacker.
Probably a big strong kid and you know, gonna be
tough to get him down.
Speaker 8 (23:45):
So Evangel Alabasta are they AISA or they are they
the Christian League?
Speaker 16 (23:50):
They're in that Christian League? Okay, yeah, but we playing
them a lot. Yeah, and they're oh they're really really good.
Speaker 8 (23:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (23:56):
They played Chambers last year in the eleven man game.
That is about fifty five kids will roll out.
Speaker 8 (24:01):
There was sixty really yeah. So there's an Evangel in
Montgomery too, right, yes, so there. I always asked which
Evangel is it? Now I gotta note because they're a
little different in the teams are a little bit different.
Speaker 17 (24:12):
Yeah, Evanjoil Alabastro I have about fifty five sixty players
and Evanjuel at Montgomery they'll have about fifteen twenty yea.
Speaker 8 (24:18):
Yeah, yeah so that stuff. Coach, will you see team?
Have you ever coached a team this morn. I have
not roster size now, no, no, no, no have not.
Speaker 13 (24:27):
You know.
Speaker 17 (24:27):
I played in Gosh eighty one, eighty two eight three
at hazel Wooden Town Creek, Alabama. Man, we won two
state championships there to A one was one, A one
was two eight and we had about twenty players, but
five of us got D one scholarship, so we're pretty
pretty good twenty one player.
Speaker 8 (24:46):
Yeah, I remember. There's some good boys that come out
of that too. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. They not only were
like they were state champion track guys, like state record
holding track guys. So if they ever got on the edge,
it was.
Speaker 17 (24:58):
So that's a little different than having fifteen the good
old boys that love to play football.
Speaker 16 (25:02):
fIF team guys that are gonna be in the NFL.
Speaker 8 (25:04):
Yeah, exactly exactly. How's your team, coach?
Speaker 16 (25:07):
I love this team, I really do.
Speaker 17 (25:09):
We had some guys leave us over the summer, you know,
thought grass was green or else places we didn't get.
Speaker 16 (25:14):
We got two kids in and uh, but this group
is basically the same team.
Speaker 17 (25:18):
We had last year. They got a lot of experience
last year. We were very young last year, so all
those guys got to play like we just talked about
and got a lot of game experience. And most of
them are juniors, so I think we've got one or
two seniors. I've got a senior kid took her sides. Uh,
just a fantastic football player to be a linebacker, h back.
Speaker 16 (25:39):
Get a kid injured, he's.
Speaker 17 (25:40):
Gonna have to go back to the line, you know,
and play some kind of line position there as well.
But he's he's the leader of our team and and
you know, we're just kind of gonna ride him this
year on both sides of the ball, and you know,
everybody else.
Speaker 16 (25:53):
Is gonna pitch in.
Speaker 17 (25:53):
We've got some other kids that that have really developed,
and I just love coaching the team. Their effort, their
their attitude to be around them.
Speaker 16 (26:01):
So it's a good you know, sometimes probably one of
the best teams ever coached. I didn't like very much really.
Speaker 17 (26:06):
You know, there were some kids that got in trouble
a lot, and you know a couple of smart elects
and you know, attitude wise, but they were very talented.
Speaker 16 (26:15):
So you know, you got two ends of the spectrum there.
Speaker 8 (26:17):
I mean, you lose the graduation. I know one he's
at Huntingson playing basketball, right, Okay, we.
Speaker 18 (26:23):
Go a little bit.
Speaker 17 (26:24):
Yeah, we lost Greg and also we lost other kids
playing basketball as well. They were basketball players that played football.
We lost about three seniors.
Speaker 8 (26:33):
Yeah, all right, well, hey, good luck coach This Friday
night hosting hosts Houston Cousle Valley at Springwoodwood School.
Speaker 16 (26:41):
If you're in that area, come out, says coach.
Speaker 8 (26:42):
Joey Bursus, Springwood School. We'll be right back with a
high school coaching show right after this.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Welcome back, Mose barc site of the High School Coaches.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Show on ninety seven point seven Kicker FM, our show
each and every week. This is week number one for
the show. Will you here about thirteen more weeks? Maybe fourteen,
depending on how far we going to playoffs. Our shows
presented to you by Moe's Barbecue, Gory's Furniture, Frederick Dean
and the Orthopedic Clintic Frederick Dean Funeral Home in Crematory
and of course the Orthopedic Clinic. We appreciate what all
(27:14):
those folks do allowing our coaches to come here and
eat a good meal and talk on the radio at
Moe's Moe at Bent Creek downtown in Auburn as well.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
But We're at Bent Creek and they're open seven days
a week.
Speaker 8 (27:25):
Poker.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Brandon Hall is in the house, the head coach of
the Indians in his second year. Benaged at number two
c last year and made the playoffs. Coach, Good to
see you tonight.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Good to see you.
Speaker 8 (27:35):
Happy to be here around football.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Yes, it is all right.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
I know these guys all right, yeah, Junior Bery, we
got them hollering at us out you field.
Speaker 8 (27:47):
The coordinator right here, tell the Stone that's it.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
I know their name, but I'm gonna get them confused.
Speaker 16 (27:51):
I wrote it on the sheet.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Now the guys, good evening, all right, let's talk poker football.
How the Indians looking.
Speaker 19 (27:57):
Hey, we're looking good man. You know that think we
just read play against somebody that's to be out there
and the the heat man. It's been kind of hot
for us, you know.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
Yep.
Speaker 19 (28:04):
We've been grinding like everybody else, you know, been hitting
the heat monster. And the guys have been working hard.
I think I think they're just ready to play, you know,
trying to get out there and hit somebody else with
a different colored uniform.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
I understand that.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Prattal Christian, this is this team he picked up right, Yes, sir,
so tell me about prattal Christian.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
What you know about Prattle Christian.
Speaker 19 (28:20):
Well, we ain't seen too much on them all, but
well a little bit that we have seen. A big, big,
physical football team. Uh they big upfront, got athletes on
the outside and stuff like that. And uh, well, well
coach football team, coaches the coach. The head coach came
from Lownes Academy. Yeah, the AI s A at one
point and uh now he just got the job there.
(28:42):
So I think the DC is from like Edgewood.
Speaker 8 (28:45):
Did they beat.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Glenwood last year the playoffs? I think they did this.
Speaker 8 (28:48):
Well, no, glen Wood.
Speaker 19 (28:49):
Uh, I think it's a c A who said, yeah,
old team. Yeah, they beat him in baseball. Glen would
be glen would beat them in baseball.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Yeah, I was lost. That's all good, But you got
you a game. You did not have a game.
Speaker 19 (29:01):
Yeah, we did not have a game cause we so yeah,
that makes us feel a lot better, you know. So
hopefully we can go out there and you know, you
know we're gonna have first game.
Speaker 8 (29:08):
Bomps and roll. You know, hopefully we can get over
those and just play football. You know.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
All right, let's turn it to the Indians. Tell me
about y'alls team, and you tell me how you.
Speaker 8 (29:15):
Want to do it. Yeah, offense, offensive, go for like
we do it in defense.
Speaker 20 (29:19):
There we go go Coach just excited for the year, man,
Just like coach said, a great, great group of guys
this year, excited for the fresh start, and I'm ready
to watch. And player's had a great summer, worked really hard.
I really worked on speed. They got bigger, faster, stronger.
So we're very very blessed for that.
Speaker 8 (29:34):
Being healthy too.
Speaker 20 (29:35):
So it's been a great off season and you know,
we just ready to finally get back and then play
somebody else five. And so we've been talking all week
just about you know, preparation and staying prepared, staying ahead
and chasing perfection. But understanding perfection is not attainable, but
excellence is by chasing perfections. So that's kind of been
the message to the offense this week, and so we're
just ready ready to get after it.
Speaker 8 (29:55):
Now.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
How many guys you have a play on defense or
both ways? All that's what turning around? All right, coach,
coach done, you tell me about your defense.
Speaker 21 (30:09):
Now you know it's year two, Uh, in year one,
you're trying to come in and and but you're playing
in place and install your things, your base and uh,
things like that, and it's a take a time for
the kids to get acclimated to that. So year two,
now when you make a call, they're accustomed to what
you're saying. And now that allows you to play a
little bit faster. You're not thinking about it. You've been
in the system one year and got that one year
(30:30):
up under your belt. So now I'm excited to go
out and watch the guys play a little bit faster
and a little bit more physical because you can eliminate
the thinking.
Speaker 8 (30:38):
Part of it.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
There you go, how many guys you got coming back?
Speaker 21 (30:42):
Uh, defensively, I think we have seven? All right, that's
a good number, critical spot, Yeah, that's good.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Special teams coach.
Speaker 19 (30:50):
About special teams we have, I'll tell you we have
a special teams guy who is our kicker man named
Anderson Jiminas. Unfortunately, he won't be able to play this year.
So when the when the hallways and picked us up
another one man, and Rico Baggy and Rique Baggy.
Speaker 8 (31:05):
Kicking player, Yeah, soccer player.
Speaker 10 (31:07):
Cod had to go in there and get him.
Speaker 19 (31:09):
He can't get thirty five forty all the coach can
he's doing a good job making all them that.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
They don't have to go for Ti over to we're
not paying yeah big.
Speaker 19 (31:22):
And then Cali Way one about one of our receivers
who's probably one of our better receivers. He's our punter.
He had about thirty nine for two yards of punt
last year, so he's a good punter for it. Yeah,
we football, We got offense, defense, special team.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
So they playing.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Now, what's your total numbers?
Speaker 19 (31:37):
We got about forty that's what we had a round
about fifty something.
Speaker 8 (31:40):
But you know how that goes. Attrician.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Attrician.
Speaker 8 (31:43):
Now we solid right at the yeah, right shoulder pad.
Come on, get a little bit.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Hoh, want to show up, I'm gonna have to slide.
Speaker 8 (31:52):
They want to go play the game. They want to
go watch it, though, play the game.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
I'll be there Friday night.
Speaker 8 (31:57):
I appreciate you, man, Yeah, thank you. Appreciate all doing things.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Y'all come down to Moles gets all them good wings
every every Wednesday. We expect you here. Coach, your boys
get big too.
Speaker 8 (32:06):
Oh up, good guys.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
All right, coach, thank you, all right, we'll be taking
a break. We'll come back with more from Mole's Barbecue.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
High School Coaches Show continues.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Moe's Barbecue, The side of the High School Coaches Show
ninety seven point seven.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Kicker FM or the iHeartRadio apport Kicker FM dot com.
Speaker 8 (32:35):
You can catch so a lot of them.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
I'm d Mark, Jeff Van Jason, all in the house engineering.
The show brought to you by Go with the Petere Clinic,
Goryes Furniture and Frederick Dean Funeral Home.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Jeffrey Craig. We got eight man football. Yes, when Christian
Jeff Miller, one of the assistant coaches, has made his
way to the veranda. What's up, Coach Miller?
Speaker 10 (32:55):
How you doing?
Speaker 8 (32:56):
Bud? Doing great? Guys?
Speaker 3 (32:57):
How are you all right?
Speaker 2 (32:58):
You are already one know you are the only team
that has only team that has played a game, right.
Speaker 10 (33:04):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
I like that, So tell me about tell me about
your excuse me, your game and your win.
Speaker 22 (33:10):
So we went up to Gatlinburg, got invited this year.
Speaker 9 (33:15):
And really just took it to him.
Speaker 22 (33:17):
Thirty five to six was the final on that one,
and uh we got I think everybody got to play
that game. So it was good to go up there
and get some reps in and still we got to
work on to get ready for next week.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Okay, Now, uh, Jason Scott's head coach six seasons. But
I don't think it was always called Southern Christian right.
Speaker 8 (33:37):
Now, he's been a coach, been around here for a while.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Yeah, yeah, excuse me?
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Right, So last year five and three lost to East
Central in the first round of the playoffs.
Speaker 10 (33:49):
This week Ezekiel Academy.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Now, Jeff, you know a little bit more about these.
Speaker 8 (33:53):
Teams and Ezekiel. Uh, I don't know y'all won that
game last year, right, correct? First, I mean beaten them though, right,
I believe so y fourteen? Right, the team it always
comes is an EVANGELI lot of Alabasaster. Yeah, that's the
one that always that comes to mind. I always asked,
is it Montgomery was at Alabasta because there's two of
(34:15):
those too. So we're in y are in the same
league too, right.
Speaker 22 (34:19):
The Alabaster we were in the same league, evangel Christian
out of Montgomery, they're not I think they're AI.
Speaker 8 (34:25):
Is a okay, but I mean, y'all, y'all play. You
might as well say it's in the league. Play because
y'all play, you play AISA schools in well, not this year,
not this year.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
No, SA has enough teams this year that they didn't
have to go.
Speaker 8 (34:39):
Ode their conference. I got you, all right, I'm glad
you explained it because I didn't know that.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, they I say, had ten. They
had enough teams to have their own schedule.
Speaker 8 (34:48):
So I need cool, they didn't need outside the conference.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
So tell me about your team, coach.
Speaker 8 (34:52):
You got eight man football.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
You've been playing it a while. Give me some names
that's been playing so last weekend to be playing Friday.
Speaker 22 (35:00):
We've got seven returning seniors coming back this year. Five
of them are all conference.
Speaker 8 (35:06):
This looks like it's going to be a great year.
Speaker 22 (35:10):
You got you know, Jagger and Judge Scott. They're the powerhouse,
you know, the two brothers, the face of Southern Christian.
Speaker 8 (35:19):
Okay, there ever been an ape man team that volat
Christian had a Scott that was the before it was that.
Speaker 16 (35:27):
I think it was Judson, it was, yeah, it was yeah.
Speaker 8 (35:29):
He was like one of the national leaders in all
purple showyards.
Speaker 10 (35:34):
Yep.
Speaker 22 (35:35):
And then quarterback senior Elijah Bailey, he's ready to, you know,
prove something this year. And then let's see other seniors.
We got Braiden Jerkins. It was fun fact about him,
big braid, and I know Braiden. We can found out
he can kick a ball.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Brayden can he can kick the ball.
Speaker 22 (35:53):
So he was kicking field goals at Gatlinburg, really making
them from fifty.
Speaker 8 (35:58):
Braid braid, dray meg or straight?
Speaker 3 (36:01):
How about that?
Speaker 8 (36:02):
Yep? Is his shoulder doing all right? He's doing a
lot better?
Speaker 3 (36:05):
Yeah, good, good, all right, I hate you Braid. That's jerking.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
Yeah yeah, I see the one that works up there
sometimes at the county. Big curly hair, reddish hair. Yeah no,
that's senning brother in law.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Okay, nephew, okay, okay, all right, Braid's a lot bigger.
But go ahead.
Speaker 22 (36:20):
You see other seniors we got on the line. We got, uh,
let's see Gabriel Finney's coming back. He's leading our line
this year offense and defense, captain on it. So we
got we got a lot of good ones coming back.
Lawton Kern running back, linebacker, defensive end, another All conference returner.
(36:45):
So I mean most of our guys play both sides.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Of the ball. So yeah, you have to what's your
total number on your team?
Speaker 8 (36:50):
We have thirty three this year.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Dang, that's good a night including night graders. That just tempting.
Speaker 8 (36:54):
That's full squoid.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Okay, that's still a good number. Do you have a
JV team?
Speaker 8 (36:59):
We do?
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Good, good, all right? Where you play whole games?
Speaker 10 (37:02):
More stadium, more stadium?
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Okay, all right, we got one in on the fifth.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
But you're going on the road Friday night, y okay,
all right, good deal, all right, well, coach, thank you
very much for being here. Good luck, Bangel Christian on
the road already. Want to know lighthouse this week at home,
I mean next week at home. High School Coaches Show
continues in a moment from Moe's.
Speaker 8 (37:23):
Barbecue and welcome back to the High School Coaches Show.
We're coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue, and
of course our sponsored the Glory's Furniture Express, the Orthopedia
(37:43):

And we got coach stealing Griggs from Russell County. It's
good to be back. I'm excited for another year. You know,
it's been a years since I said, well not a year,
because we saw you last year in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Playoffs.
Speaker 23 (37:58):
Well yeah, all right, hey, it's our favorite Wednesday, Every
Wednesday where you open up.
Speaker 8 (38:03):
Yeah yeah, this is my favorite time of year. Well
this is I get excited about the first coaching show
and then they get better and better, of course, but
I mean, you know, the first one is always the
big one because you know we're two days away from
exactly some some cases just one day away.
Speaker 23 (38:17):
Well, this is the day where you start your superstitions
and so you know, you got to take your specific
route over here, you stop at the gas station.
Speaker 8 (38:23):
And if you win, it's going to be the same thing.
Did you do it last year against Carol? Oh yeah, okay,
oh yeah.
Speaker 23 (38:28):
And see I have to this big when you pick
your first meal when you get here, because if you win,
that meal has to continue.
Speaker 10 (38:34):
So you can't just select anything.
Speaker 8 (38:35):
What'd you picked? Ribs? Good choice, they had them, y
oh yeah. Some people tell me they were out, so
you must have got the last last stretch of it.
I got lucky, like all right, coach, Friday night, you
got you gotta go to Carol of Ozark, which is
in Odsalk. Of course, last year you beat them thirty
two to nothing. Tell us about Carol.
Speaker 23 (38:55):
I mean, you know, coach Malone is a great football coach.
I've known him during this time as the ocuple and uh,
obviously he was at Andalusia for a while. He's been
in some really good programs, one a state championship, you know.
But got to watch a little bit of film on
the spring game. I mean, they look much improved. They look,
you know, like they hired an elite coach and he's
getting the program running. And I mean it was good,
clean football, and they're athletic. They got a receiver that's
(39:16):
really good. I think O line is big, the defensive
line is fast and physical.
Speaker 24 (39:21):
I mean it was you know.
Speaker 8 (39:22):
I mean, I'm expecting a good football game. All right,
your team, you're going You're going there this year. You
beat him last year thirty two two nights. Let's talk
about your team. What who have you got returning?
Speaker 23 (39:31):
Uh, you know, I got thirteen returning starters back I
got obviously, I got QB one back.
Speaker 10 (39:37):
I've got three out of five offensive lineman back.
Speaker 8 (39:39):
I've got four out of five receivers back.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Uh, just to say you got a lot coming back.
Speaker 23 (39:45):
My running back room is kind of new, but I
feel like it's just as good as as what I've
ever had. And then on defense, we're returning seven out
of eleven, including both middle linebackers, three out of four
of the main defensive lineman, h the corner one corner
one safety, and both outside linebackers. I mean, you know,
(40:05):
I mean we're feeling good. I mean, we we've got
thirty two seniors, nineteen will be starting. But you know,
I mean, you know, the big thing for us right
now is just you know, still playing Russell County brand
of football and understanding you know, like you know, we
got to go take it and you know, like I
don't want anybody to respect us. I want people to
just keep thinking we're the same old Russell County, you know.
And so that's the mindset that.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Was they can't look at last year three and made
the playoffs.
Speaker 8 (40:31):
Yeah, I just want to talk about five years ago.
Speaker 16 (40:35):
Yeah, that's what you're thinking.
Speaker 8 (40:36):
That's not going to happen.
Speaker 23 (40:37):
I want that hard nose, gritty Russell County football team,
period the end, no matter what, that's gonna fight for
four quarters. And you know that that played with the
chip on their shoulder, you know what I mean, we're
the last year. We're the guys who have been doubted,
and we want to continue to fill that way a
young running back. Last year is that it was it
was Russell County that had the young running back.
Speaker 8 (40:57):
Quarterback.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Yeah, it was took forty.
Speaker 8 (41:00):
That's the one that is coming well, I know his
quarterbacks coming back. We talked about that and started up.
I was wondering, that's what you Yeah, for some reason,
I was thinking you had a like an eighth or
ninth grader that was contributing.
Speaker 23 (41:11):
Well, maybe we had a night grader that was a backup,
but he didn't get a whole lot of reps because
DJ was just doing his thing and you know DJ,
I mean DJ could get fifty reps a game and
it wouldn't phase him. And so you know, CJ senior year,
he'd earned those reps and you know Chris needed to
be patient. But you know, I mean, I I will
say this, I think Chris Lucas is a Power five
running back and I think, you know goodness, I think
(41:33):
you will definitely know who he is by the end
of the season. But equally, Eugene Robinson as a senior
running back, and I mean he's special.
Speaker 8 (41:41):
His family moved over from.
Speaker 23 (41:42):
The state of Georgia they took a job in the
area and just so happy to move to Fort Mitchelle, Alabama.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
And he walked in my office and I was just like, yes.
Speaker 23 (41:49):
Sir, proud, Oh yeah, he looked really good, you know.
I mean, but even you know, we got a we
got another kid who moved in and when he was
in the eighth grade, his dad's a drill sergeant. And
so now he's tenth grader, his dad's a drill starger
over Fort Benning. And this kid, over all summer has
just shocked us. So I think a Lojah Laws is
somebody that I'd be looking out for this year too.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Okay did you talk about that, Carol?
Speaker 10 (42:11):
I jumped?
Speaker 8 (42:11):
We did. Okay, yeah, all right.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
How's the feel out there, coach? You had a great
year last year.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Went to playoffs with a lot of enthusiasm, really played strong,
only lost three games, finished second in your region, and
you got a lot of kids come back. I'd be
I know what you were talking about. But you got
to be kind of a lot of excitement out there.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
Inspect Yeah, you know, I mean, it's just you know,
except a step.
Speaker 23 (42:29):
Yeah, well, there's expectations. I mean, you know, there's some
days we get out there and I think, man, ah,
we look good. And there's some days I go out
there and I go, man, we couldn't work our way
through a wet paper sack.
Speaker 16 (42:38):
So you know, I don't know. You know, the thing
that I'll say is, you know we had.
Speaker 23 (42:41):
One hundred out of from spring on, we had one
hundred and eighty seven in total. We'll try to come
play football, coach.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
That's good. And we finished with one hundred and one.
Speaker 8 (42:49):
Wow.
Speaker 23 (42:50):
So you know, we made this summer extremely difficult. You know,
we're really big on attendance and so like we do
roll every day and you miss.
Speaker 8 (42:56):
Three days, you're out. Just want to be there there
you go.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
So you know, they keep.
Speaker 23 (43:01):
Showing up and doing their thing, and we're gonna play
the ones.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
That matter a right dealing Grigg Russell Canny good to
see coach Friday night against Oz Harroll, the.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Eagles and the Warriors. Will take a break where at
mos I School Coaches Show is moving along. Jason Lee
will come back right after this break.
Speaker 8 (43:28):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. We're
coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. They're one
of our sponsors and our other sponsors of course, or
Gorye's Furniture or the Petere Clinic and Frederick Dean Funeral Home.
And up next to Budeau High School's first year of
coach head coach My first year at Budle though, my
first year Budeau coach Michael course in, good afternoon.
Speaker 25 (43:47):
Good afternoon.
Speaker 8 (43:48):
How many years have you been at.
Speaker 26 (43:49):
Beauty twenty eighteen, twenty eighteen, so this will be like
eight right here?
Speaker 18 (43:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (43:55):
Yeah, year.
Speaker 25 (43:56):
My first year was with Junior High and I helped
on that that that team we hosted the first round
of playoffs. I was I kind of I guess that
was my GA year.
Speaker 8 (44:06):
All right, well, coach, you're opening up against Abbeyville. You
opened up against them last year you won thirty five
thirty nine fourteen. Tell us a little bit about Abbeyville
this year.
Speaker 25 (44:15):
Well, we know they lost their quarterback. He went to
Abbyville Christian and he was pretty good athlete number zero.
Speaker 8 (44:23):
He really was.
Speaker 25 (44:25):
He open and drive. They came out and tried to
throw the ball down the field on us and hit
one big one. So we kind of made adjustments on that.
But he can he could still run and then they
had they got a back the back that they had
last year's coming back. He rushed twelve one of yours
last year, so again that quarterback moved out, they moved
(44:45):
their receiver over to quarterback, is what we're reading and
what we've been told. He's a pretty dynamic guy too,
so we think it's gonna be a run heavy type
deal where they're gonna try to get to the outside
of us and try to get to the sideline and
try to you know, with their athletes in space. So
that's what we've been kind of been preparing for. And
then defensively, you know, coach Tyra this is his first
(45:07):
year there too, he just got there, and he traditionally
runs like a four to four system, so we think
that's what we're going to see, that four to four
cover three look. So that's kind of what we've been
scheming for and what we've been scheming against to get
ready for them. But we think they're gonna bring athletes
up here, and we are excited for the channel.
Speaker 8 (45:28):
Hey it's at home, that's what said. Yeah, h tell
me about the Bobcatz coach, how many do you have
returning from last year's.
Speaker 25 (45:33):
We're returning probably I think we got about fifteen guys returning.
We got thirty eight on our roster right now.
Speaker 8 (45:39):
Fifteen starters of returning.
Speaker 25 (45:40):
No, oh, you meant starters.
Speaker 13 (45:42):
No.
Speaker 25 (45:44):
Defensively, well, will we be moving guys in and out?
And when I say starter, you know, we've got some
guys that's came in and kind of showed us some stuff,
so probably you know. I think on offense, we replaced
all of our receivers. We got three offensive linemen that
came back and one hundred of all playing receiver force
and now he's our quarterback. So you got three or
four guys on offense, and then on defense you got
(46:06):
a defensive lineman that started. We replaced every linebacker, but
then our secondary are all guys that played for us. Okay,
so that's that's a strong point. Again, though we did
lose all our linebackers from we replace all of them,
but we've got some promise there. Tapley Braydon Tapley plays
mike backer forth. He played some some end and some
(46:28):
outside linebacker last year. He's got some weight on him,
but he's also thinned up a little more athletic. He's
playing mike backer. Brody Peacocks a sophomore. He's playing beside
him at the wheel. We've got some speed on the
outside for the our edge guys, and again, our secondary
is gonna be pretty strong. Cam Baker, he's a basketball guy.
(46:48):
We got him to come out this year and he's a.
He's he's a. He might be one of our best
athletes on our team.
Speaker 5 (46:53):
He can really run.
Speaker 25 (46:55):
He's gonna play receiver and dB forst. Tristan Robinson's our
other corner again. He played last year, so there's you know,
he kind of knows what we're doing. And then Hunter
the ball again quarterback. He played in the secondary last year.
And then of course our guys Kamanie Lindsay he's gonna
play running back and then he plays strong safety. So
he kind of gets everything where it's supposed to be.
Speaker 8 (47:16):
Special teams, coach, how's your special teams? How's your kickers?
Speaker 25 (47:18):
Well, we got you know, we lost Reed and he
went to point and he was really really good kicker. Yeah,
all State two years in a row.
Speaker 8 (47:26):
So he goes to.
Speaker 25 (47:27):
Point and he's not only just kicking there, he's I
think he's playing receiver too. So yeah, so he came
out with us in the summer a little bit and
Ransom route, So I think he's gonna be kind of
a multi multi guy for them too. But no, we
got Luke rubb Backy stuff. And then as our kicker
and Hunter can kick too. You know, his last name
is the Ball, so he needs to be able to
know how to kick with you. Yeah, so he yeah,
(47:48):
he's kicking a little bit. And then Luke rub Backy
is uh, he's gonna be one of their guys as well.
So again I mean, yeah, read a two time all stay.
You know, that's tough to replace. But but Luke, Luke's
pretty good. He's gonna step in there and we got
a lot of faith in what he can do.
Speaker 8 (48:02):
You know, you don't know how important that those guys
are till you have to have one that can do
that kind of thing, the guys that can kick it
at the end zone or in the end zone.
Speaker 25 (48:10):
Well you got a touch back great of over seventy
five percent. Yeah, that's hugely you know what I mean.
Like you look at you know, defensive coordinator, I'm like, yeah,
come them, you know, and you.
Speaker 8 (48:18):
Ain't get twenty every time.
Speaker 25 (48:20):
Man, that's huge to have a guy like that. So
you know, we hope you know, I don't think Luke's
got that strong a leg or Hunter. But but there's
those guys are They're dependable and it's not like that's
gonna I don't feel like that's gonna be a weak area.
Speaker 8 (48:32):
Yes, well you know what, your your kick. Guys just
won't get to stop every time. Now they're gonna have
to make a player. Absolutely, thanks coach. I appreciate good luck.
You got Abbeyville at home Friday night. The beauty Bobcats
and Abbeyville.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
That's it.
Speaker 8 (48:48):
Go Bobcats. Appreciate it. We'll be right back with the
High School Coaching Show right after this.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Welcome back, but welcome back to Mo's Barbecue Sight of
the high school coach. There's always laughter here. Dean Marn't Mental,
Jeff Sasher, Jason Lee or Jason.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
Early as you call him, Van Riggs. Strike one. There
we go.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Welcome back here, Rick Mos Our shows brought to you
by the Hoar Peedy Clinic, Gory's Furniture and Frederick Dean
Funeral on in Crematory.
Speaker 3 (49:17):
I'm fired up. It's week one for the Coaches Show.
It's week zero in football. We've had a.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Bunch of coaches. We've been talking to and it's time
to talk to the Vallet Rams. Adam Hunter another one
of my favorite coach. These fools around here, I tell
you not you coach. How you doing, Adam?
Speaker 9 (49:32):
I'm good.
Speaker 8 (49:32):
How are y'all?
Speaker 3 (49:33):
We're good.
Speaker 8 (49:33):
It's good to see you, coach. It hasn't been quite
a year, but it's well know media days.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Yeah, that's yeah. I was gonna say, Jeff, we just
saw a month ago.
Speaker 11 (49:41):
I missed him, smoke wings. I ain'd him in a while.
Speaker 8 (49:44):
I think he was first day though.
Speaker 10 (49:45):
Yeah he was.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
Oh, didn't seem wife anyway, he was out of pocket.
Speaker 8 (49:53):
Yeah that's right.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Yeah, you had something you couldn't Yeah, yeah, anyway, Yeah,
well his wife had had a little some issues there.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
So anyway, coach, good to see you. Starting year number five, right, six?
Speaker 8 (50:05):
Six? Finished fifth yet number six if you look up
coach Adams.
Speaker 11 (50:09):
Look, I think that's right, and.
Speaker 8 (50:12):
I was kind of our research team gets it right everything, Jason.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
All right, tell me about the Valley Rams, coach.
Speaker 11 (50:19):
You know this group, I tell you, you know, they
have really worked hard this summer and through the spring.
This is a group that come together. You know, they
work hard together. They don't complain you know, and that's
one of the keys you know, to to having a
good successful season is you know, they like to work.
They go up there extra getting extra reps when I'm
(50:42):
not there on the weekend. As they go they get
together as a receivers and quarterback and they throw on
their own. So you know, those are things you see
that's happening. That's good, you know for our program. More leadership,
I think a little bit more than.
Speaker 8 (50:57):
The last year. So you know, it's exercise.
Speaker 11 (51:00):
It's exciting to watch these kids. You just don't really
know where you're at until you get on the field
Friday night and keep it off and get somebody else.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
So, you know, coach, I think, excuse me yet, but
I think every coach says that I've heard coach Afterd's
coach more.
Speaker 8 (51:12):
You really don't know.
Speaker 3 (51:13):
You think you might know, but you really don't.
Speaker 8 (51:15):
That's right.
Speaker 11 (51:16):
You know, we got some guys that's gonna have to
start that haven't started in a high school football game.
You know, you're gonna have to see how they respond
to it. You know, they they're done really good in practice,
but you know, put them in front of the lights
and see how they react. So you know that's gonna
be key for see how they can handle it. And
you know, I think we've got a pretty good team.
We've got to continue to get better and that's what
(51:38):
we've done this fall campus get better every week.
Speaker 8 (51:41):
So so you have the opportunity to be good coach.
Speaker 11 (51:43):
And what you're telling me, well, I think so, you know,
I think we can we can be a you know,
a team that competes every week and that kind of thing.
You know, I think we've got to show up some things.
Some people's got to step up in some key spots.
That's filling in for some kids that have played for
a while those positions. So if they can handle that,
if they can do good, you know, we've got a
(52:04):
chance to be you know, competitive.
Speaker 8 (52:06):
Yeah, how you open up with Glenwood. Last year you
lost twenty one to twenty at Glenwood. This year you're
at at Ram Stadium. You know they're not gonna slip
up on you, like.
Speaker 9 (52:16):
Yeah, yeah, not you, but you guys.
Speaker 11 (52:18):
And you know, I told these our guys last year,
you know, and I think we jumped out too quick.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
Yeah, you got to get up twenty We got up.
Speaker 11 (52:25):
Twenty to That's what you know. We kind of we
kind of stalled out after that, you know, and we
didn't we didn't finish, and that was big. You know,
we didn't finish and that and that was big for
the season. You know, we lose two games in overtime
during the season, so we didn't finish. But yeah, you know,
any any time you play in Glenwood, you're not you know,
you're not playing a private school. You're playing a school
(52:45):
with that's got a lot of athletes that a coach
that really is good at what he does. You know,
he's a really good head coach. And you know, you know,
it's just one of those things you got to get
out there and play. I think it's a good game.
I think it'll be a good gate. I think, you know,
it's a it's a good game that's close to home
for both both schools.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
I love what you said. This ain't a regular. I
don't mean the wrong. It's not a regular as a
team that you're playing.
Speaker 11 (53:09):
This is a they're good, They've got they've got kids
that come in you know from you know, album high
school as lete school, so they were schools and coaching.
Speaker 8 (53:18):
Nelson's really not a s a guy.
Speaker 3 (53:22):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (53:23):
He's got a legendary father that coached baseball and football,
you know, and he was a he was a coordinator
at central right when they had some good teams.
Speaker 11 (53:32):
So you been around a lot of good football exactly,
you know, And he knows what he's doing. So we
got to work cut out for us. You know, it's
gonna be a good team. It's gonna be a good game.
Speaker 10 (53:39):
All right.
Speaker 8 (53:39):
How's our team? How's our team looking though? Coach me?
You know how we're going in? I mean, do y'all
bring this up? Last year? Hey we lost all one? Yeah,
we do.
Speaker 11 (53:47):
You know, I think we we we go back on
it because most of these guys played last year, you know,
And and you have to bring that up and say, look,
you know, this is how you got to approach this game.
You know, we didn't approach it the correct way last year,
actually the second half, you know. So I think they
understand what we're up against. I think they know that
we've got to play really good in all phases of
(54:08):
the game to be successful. So you know, it's gonna
be exciting, it'll be good, It'll be a really good game.
I think it's gonna be a close game. I think,
you know, you know, I think both teams will be
there and the fourth quarter is gonna be whoever can
win that fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (54:20):
Yeah, home field, you've got to.
Speaker 8 (54:21):
Have a big support coaching.
Speaker 11 (54:22):
Yeah, oh yeah, they felt our fans come out. They
support our kids.
Speaker 8 (54:26):
So that's a good thing when you play games like this.
Right here, coach, you feel like both sides it should
be standing room on.
Speaker 3 (54:32):
Yeah, I mean it.
Speaker 11 (54:33):
Should be a really good gate. I think I think
both schools represent pretty well.
Speaker 8 (54:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
You you feel good about where youre at right now
at the end of the game, Yeah.
Speaker 11 (54:40):
I do.
Speaker 9 (54:41):
I feel really good.
Speaker 11 (54:41):
I feel I feel good offensively, better than we have
in the past. You know, I think we've got some
guys that can make plays in space. We got a
quarterback to get get the ball in space. We've got
some guys that can stretch to feel vertical, and you know,
we've got a good running back. You know, I think
we got a really good running back. And feel like,
you know, this team is yelling well. Defensively, we got
(55:03):
our two inside linebackers back that we're leaders on our defense,
so you know, those guys coming back as big for us.
Speaker 3 (55:10):
So you are you feel like your team's condition with
this heat, coach, I don't know. I fact it's tough.
Speaker 8 (55:16):
It's tough now.
Speaker 11 (55:17):
You know, we ran, we we did a lot of
conditioning in the summer, but now with our numbers, with
with with you know, a couple of guys having to
go both ways, you just can't wear them out. And
that's what we were talking about as a coaching staff earlier.
You know, the the game has evolved and practice has evolved.
You know, we we can't do what we used to do.
(55:37):
We can't go out there and practice three hours in
full pads every day and expect these kids to compete.
You know, we've got to We got to take care
of them a little bit more. And then I think
that's where society is. Just it's different now, I tell you,
and we talked about it. It's it's a different way
of doing things. You have to kind of make some
things happen at practice that gets them fired up to practic.
(56:00):
That's just how it is.
Speaker 3 (56:01):
You might have to add some music, Yes, that's right.
Speaker 8 (56:04):
You gotta make practice fun, right, that's right.
Speaker 9 (56:06):
Are you gonna switch it up?
Speaker 3 (56:07):
That's right, Adam Hunter. Good to see you, coach, Thank
you for being here and good luck and go rounds Yes, sir,
Rams host.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Glenwood Friday night, Rams Stadium kick off at seventh Central.
Quick break High School Coach Show continues in a moment.
Speaker 8 (56:20):
All right, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show.
We're coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue, our
sponsors or with Pete Clinic, Frederick Dean Funeral Home and
gold Ree's Furniture. And we got next up head coach
r J McDonald fro Monette, and he's brought an assistant
coach with I'm sorry, you're gonna have to tell me.
Your name is Charlie Williams. Charlie Williams coach weves, what
(56:41):
do you coach? Coach outside linebo outside linebackers coach. Hey,
good afternoon, good to see Hey. So you open up
Friday at Bullet County. All right, yeah, let's talk about
Bullet County first.
Speaker 24 (56:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 25 (56:54):
Yeah, really good football team led by a really good
young coach, Coach Jeremy Bones does a really good job
down there from right up the road and the fete originally.
So uh, he's got a couple of ties to our
place up there, and you know he's got a really
good thing going. You know, a lot of enthusiasm down there.
I know, I know they're a d pretty well you
(57:15):
know young guy as well, so you know they got
they got a pretty good team coming back. I think
they made the playoffs for one of the second time
in their school history.
Speaker 8 (57:24):
I think, you know what coach, So, yeah, you're right,
really had really good you're three and oh all time
against him by well that it is they've never lost
to last year, fourteen to thirteen.
Speaker 7 (57:34):
You put that.
Speaker 25 (57:34):
Thanks for putting that on me.
Speaker 8 (57:36):
I wouldn't would I wouldn't trying to put the hoodoo on.
That was letting you know, you've never lost the bullet counter. So, uh,
they do, you know the coaches at media days, he
talked about his team a lot. You know, they had
a lot of close games you could you could throw
ten points and moving around like you wanted to. And
he's except for that, yeah, except for Jackson game. He's
(57:57):
in you know, he's in them all.
Speaker 25 (57:58):
Yeah, absolutely, yeah, you're right, you know, and now our
game is one of them.
Speaker 8 (58:02):
Last year.
Speaker 25 (58:02):
You know, looking back on that game, that was, you know,
a really close football game, really two really good defenses.
Early on in the year, going at it, and uh,
you know, I think they had out of the five
losses they had, four of them were by six points
or less, and I think they had two or three
that were by a point, and so, you know, it
was a really tough thing for them, probably you know,
(58:24):
a lot of adversity there. But you know, I think
everything's a learning experience for anybody, you know, but like
especially for us last year coming out and you know,
having to you know, find out who we were. And
I think that's uh, you know something these singers have
done a really good job of. I think this summer
is uh, you know, leading and that I think Coach
Williams might agree with this. Since I've been there in
(58:45):
the last four years, it's it's been tough and hard
to come by some some leaders and so you know,
I think we're kind of seeing a little bit of
fruits of the labor from like some of that character
education back in like January to May and kind of
going over certain things and adverse city awations. Putting them
in it has has really helped us blossom some pretty
good leaders.
Speaker 8 (59:04):
Coach, how many seniors you got this time?
Speaker 25 (59:06):
We got fourteen seniors, uh, fourteen singers this year.
Speaker 8 (59:11):
It sounds like a pretty big class. It's a very
big class lately.
Speaker 25 (59:14):
Like I want to say, the last three have been
four or less. Last year was three. So you know,
it's it's been. This is the group we kind of
been waiting on.
Speaker 8 (59:25):
All the contributors.
Speaker 25 (59:27):
Yeah, they've been playing since they were in the eighth grade,
all of them. Like I remember coming down here my
first year.
Speaker 8 (59:32):
Remember we had some young well he had an eighth
grade linebacker.
Speaker 25 (59:35):
After last year, especially when we got hurt, kind of
towards the middle end, we kind of hit a little
skid man. We were playing a seventh grader at corner,
remember the safety, and then had a eighth grader at safety.
Who's gonna have to play this year? Not as a
ninth grader? And we got an eighth grader this year,
Like I said, in immediate days is going after what
was the seventh grader looked like when you tell him
how you he's they were deer in the headlights. Okay,
(59:58):
you I mean, but look, I I mean what it is.
I mean it was either that or put alignment back there. Yeah,
I mean, I mean, so you know what.
Speaker 8 (01:00:05):
Coach eighth grader was the m V p of a seven.
Speaker 25 (01:00:10):
Or four years ago and a couple of a couple
of these guys don't look like it. I mean, we've
done a pretty good job in the weight room. They
have taken it, taking it pretty serious. And so we
we kind of you know, put them through that. And
for the kids we've been talking about, you know, that's
that's something they taken pretty good pride.
Speaker 8 (01:00:27):
She liked them seven eight graders the next year, don't you.
Speaker 16 (01:00:30):
Yeah, look learned.
Speaker 15 (01:00:31):
I learned.
Speaker 25 (01:00:32):
And I learned this my first year from coach Williams
when he was a defensive coordinator.
Speaker 8 (01:00:35):
He uh, he started playing a lot.
Speaker 25 (01:00:37):
Of them babies and uh and it pays off in
the long run because they're going to be singers one day,
you know.
Speaker 8 (01:00:41):
So yeah, and it's just good. It's good to see that.
Speaker 5 (01:00:44):
So we do.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
He before we go, tell me about your stadium is
looking good? Ready to go?
Speaker 7 (01:00:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:00:49):
Yeah, looking looking good?
Speaker 10 (01:00:51):
You know, and something something was really taking pride in it.
Speaker 8 (01:00:53):
So you know, I rode by it. I couldn't see it.
I was on fifty, you know, going between uh you know,
fifty from headed from Philip rode up that way down
to the Kroger. I couldn't see the field, but I
wanted to.
Speaker 25 (01:01:04):
Yeah, yeah, you pull up in there. You know Coach
Williams played there, so I'll let him say something about that.
You know, it probably takes a lot of pride in it. Yeah,
it's been long overdue. A lot of good memories on
that field. Uh, big playoff games.
Speaker 7 (01:01:21):
Uh just blood sweating, tears, just it's it's beautiful watching
the complex transform y'all have.
Speaker 8 (01:01:32):
Y'all have some issues with the drainage too. Oh yeah,
it's kind of bad. So that'll be a thing of
the past. Oh yeah, because heny y'all play some games.
Didn't y'all use Hamley's field for game there?
Speaker 7 (01:01:43):
Those kickoff classes? We used op like a field one
year and we use value for the playoff game.
Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
They had some drainage issues.
Speaker 8 (01:01:53):
Yeah, and it's been I've never played on anyone and
I'm from here. I'm from Opaka and you know I
never did play over the field. Uh oh what was
the name of the field over there? With field? I
never played there.
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
I always want to say, you played it, Morgan and
you played at ram Stadium, the old Round Stadium too.
Speaker 8 (01:02:09):
Oh yeah, now you old Ram State. I played a
hamp Line too.
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
So yeah, yeah, yeah, I broadcasted all them. I didn't
play there. Hey guys, it's good to see y'all. Thank
y'all for being here.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
It's always good to have Thenette in the house at
Bullet County. Very good football team and the coach final
has done a good job.
Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
So hey, good to see y'all. Thanks ice C Coaches
Show It most continues. We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
We got more coaches from Moe's Barbecue, and we are

Frederick Dean fromeralrom A Crematory and gor Reeve's Furniture.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):

Speaker 8 (01:02:51):
We're all live here.
Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
We want to encourage you to come to MOS seven
days a week. They stay open early and they I
mean they're open early and stay open late.
Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
And they got food for everybody of your liking, from
vegetables to fish.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
To barbecue to port to chicken, vegetables, kids meals you
name Redneck Nacho, Edneck Nacho's fits you. Yeah, they got
the adult beverage and they got water like I drink.
They got it all here seven days a week, family atmosphere.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
If you want to got outside, we are on the porch,
got TVs everywhere. You can watch your favorite game in
your team. And you know what, I am thrilled to have.
Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Coach Shannon Motley from Bareguard making his first appearance of
many at our coach show.
Speaker 8 (01:03:28):
Good Sea coach, I'm glad to be here.
Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
Yes, sir, do you have a good meal?
Speaker 8 (01:03:32):
I did? Man, I bark you sandwich in there. Man,
it was good. I think this is probably the first
time I'm eaten here. Why I've said that, I've driven
by several times, you know, but and it was good. Good.
Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
I told her to get ready to have a long
several seasons of Mo's Barbie about thirteen weeks.
Speaker 8 (01:03:49):
That sounds good.
Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
And I met you boys too.
Speaker 8 (01:03:50):
You got a fifteen would be nice, bo, Yeah, fifteen
would be.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
Thanksgiving and we're breaking bread on that week. Now you
got a fifteen year old and twelve year old? Yes, yeah, yeah,
they're looking young men. Tell if they take after mama,
that's right, Yeah, to do that, all right?
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
How are things that bore our first year coach fan
by the way, coming off a state championship, might I
wid it was that's there you go.
Speaker 8 (01:04:14):
You know I got started pretty much a week or
two into the summer.
Speaker 3 (01:04:19):
Yeah you were, you were kind of late.
Speaker 8 (01:04:21):
So but man, those those kids have been working. You know,
I bragged on them all summer. They they come in
there and I their work ethic is it is? It
is boring none. Man, They they came in there and
and grinded. You don't even hardly have to get onto
those kids. Man there and there, and they work hard
and and they get after it, uh in the weight room,
(01:04:42):
you know.
Speaker 3 (01:04:43):
So I mean you got to make you feel good.
Speaker 8 (01:04:45):
It was kind of surprising, you know. And uh you
know that's due to to the coaches that they're there.
You know, they they kept it going and uh you know,
so you know, I got a good, good coaching staff.
Many they work hard and they'll put in the hours.
Speaker 10 (01:05:03):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:05:04):
So you know it's exciting for me. You know, it's
it's a different atmosphere because of the numbers. You know, well,
number wise, I'm used to having about about thirty five kids,
you know, and uh that's seven through twelfth grade, and
here I am with seventy, you know, just nine through twelve.
(01:05:26):
So but that's the only thing. You know. Football is football,
you know. So you know when when when it turned
lights on Friday night, they we're gonna were only gonna
have eleven on the field, they.
Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
Are too, you know, so uh block and tackling, it's
the same.
Speaker 8 (01:05:41):
And that's that's what it's all about.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
It you get three downs to get when you get
four to get ten, I mean not want to put
on fourth.
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
If you don't, I'm just giving you a hard time here,
all right. So when you get there, what do you
do when you first rune? You gotta learn so much.
I can't imagine learning, you know what I mean. You
had to learn everybody.
Speaker 8 (01:05:58):
Well, you know, before I even got there, that seemed
like I met four hundred people, you know, uh there,
you know, and then then I'm trying to remember these
kids name, you know. And I brought me a cheap
sheet tonight, man, because you know, if y'all asked me
about somebody, I may have to look it up. I
gotta ask you one name, coach, yes may oh yeah,
(01:06:20):
he don't have to look that name up. Making sure
you met him. Oh yeah, I have in the in
the broadcast team him and yeah, yeah, I met with
them this week too. They give him a low down
on what they're gonna have going on.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
But the care guy, they're awesome guy, do a great job.
I cut over and listen to him every week. Check
the story out. All right, So tell me a little
bit about we Tumpkin, and we're gonna come back to
your time.
Speaker 24 (01:06:46):
Man.
Speaker 8 (01:06:46):
We is gonna be gonna be with Tomkin. You know,
they're they're gonna be athletic, they're gonna have good size.
The coach over there, he's good, he's a good guy.
He's good coach.
Speaker 7 (01:06:56):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:06:58):
I know they're gonna be prepared, you know, and you
know last year it was a close ball game. And
that's I don't I only have a couple of films,
a couple of films on them, but I don't really
think they're gonna change a whole lot from what they
have been doing. But you know, I don't know so,
(01:07:20):
but I know they're gonna be They're gonna be a
physical team, and uh, they're gonna be very athletic. And
I told I told the kids to day, I said,
you know, we're we're starting out with with with two
good football teams. With Tunker. Then we turned around play Aniston,
you know, and by then we're gonna know who we are,
(01:07:40):
you know, because that that's that's two good football teams
they're starting now with. You know what's good about it though,
coatry at home ain't nothing like being field. The playing
surfaces ready redid the field and it looks good. And
they they've had a little bit of dress on the
(01:08:00):
edges and stuff, but the playing surface is good. It's
in good shape, you know, So I mean it's ready
to go.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
That's what you want to tell me about your team.
Let's start on offense and then we'll go, you.
Speaker 8 (01:08:13):
Know, offensive line. I think I think we've got a
purdation offensive line. You know that we're big, you know,
and then we got we got good strength up front,
you know.
Speaker 7 (01:08:26):
And then.
Speaker 8 (01:08:28):
Quarterback nic O Key right now, he's he's a thick kid,
young kid in tenth grade, and he's he's really picking
up what we what we're doing offensively.
Speaker 3 (01:08:43):
More of a runner when sick, he's more of.
Speaker 8 (01:08:46):
A sit back in the pocket type guy, you know.
But now we do have a got a couple of
running backs. Tafe Foreman, you know, he's a he's a
thick guy, real thick guy. And he's a he's a
power runner. He's he's a he's a downhill guy.
Speaker 10 (01:09:03):
Strong.
Speaker 8 (01:09:05):
You know, them got Jeffrey Holloway, he's a he's an
other running back.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
He's he kind of scatted back.
Speaker 8 (01:09:11):
And man, we got good receivers. Our receivers, Jordan Jackson,
Kanye Billingsley. Man, they are they're very athletic. So you
know that as far as our you know, our quarterback
is he's young and he's new and he's fresh, but
he's got the surroundings. That's I think it's gonna help
(01:09:35):
him out. You know, It's what it's what we're kind
of banking on, you know, and that and I think
once he gets a little bit of confidence, he's gonna
be fine back there flipping on the other side. On
defensive side, you know, we we we've been playing kind
of fast. You know, we're run. We're gonna base ode
(01:09:56):
of three four defense and uh, you know, we got
some cat race. He's gonna be starting to nose guard
for us. And then we got I'm gonna have a
senior linebacker, you know, and the secondary. While we were
I say, we're fairly young, but we got two juniors
(01:10:16):
in the middle playing rover, U J. J. Jones and
Cam I got her remember Cam Bowen, Uh, he's playing
rover for us. And then we got Austin Jackson playing
corner and uh t J. Licking playing another corner. I'm
trying to remember all these things, so that's hard to do.
(01:10:40):
I'm trying to thank these guys names.
Speaker 3 (01:10:42):
I couldn't do it first year, Like, and I know,
I know most of them.
Speaker 10 (01:10:46):
I know a lot of their faces.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Yeah, yeah, you're looking at them through him much too now.
Speaker 8 (01:10:49):
And then then and then I'm having to deal with nicknames.
To God to tell you I'm the worst on that. Yeah,
I get a nickname, that's his name. But you know,
we we I think we're looking pretty good defense and
I'm defensive guys. I knew that, and I started with.
Speaker 9 (01:11:08):
I think.
Speaker 8 (01:11:10):
We got a lot of things. We still got a
critique down because the things we're doing is a little
bit new to what they've been doing. When you sit
fast in the three four. Yeah, and uh, you know,
we gotta do a little bit better job. I noticed Touff.
We gotta do a little bit of better job breaking
down because we were playing so fast. We will over overrun.
(01:11:32):
See some fast teams that get you on the backside,
and instead of instead of corraling that to the quarterback,
that in the pocket will go past him in the
quarterback and run underneath.
Speaker 3 (01:11:41):
You know, the effort that you kind of is hard
to kind of tough their effort.
Speaker 8 (01:11:45):
But it's the wrong effort, right and then and then
those screens are kid you know, so you know that's
that's that's one of them dangs.
Speaker 10 (01:11:53):
If you do than if you don't.
Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
Know about you that's fast.
Speaker 8 (01:11:57):
As long as we as long we're fast, we get
after you know, and wrap up. I think we're gonna
be fine.
Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
Special teams real quick. We got music about to go
tenbout you get, uh.
Speaker 8 (01:12:06):
Special teams man, they've been working hard, you know, we
we got we got fred a good kicker. I think
we've got a good partner man. Uh Wayane Wilson. He's
been he's been punting for us and uh he's got
a good leg. He's actually a backup quarterback too. He
didn't play last year. Uh he's more of a more
(01:12:26):
of a baseball type type guy. But he came out
this year and he may end up getting some snaps
at quarterback. He's he's an athletic guy, and so that
he's gonna help us out somewhere or another because he's
fairly athletic.
Speaker 3 (01:12:42):
Jeff and I'll be out you play soon, coach. Yes,
all right, we'll be there. Thank you, Good luck you
every week to meet your family over there. Yes all right,
Coach Annon Motley here with a board guard on it.
We're at Moves. We'll take a break. We've got plenty
more coaches coming away from Rose Barbecue. We're at Moe's Barbecue.
Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
High School Coaches Show week number one for the Coaches
Show Week zero, as they call it in DHSA. We're
not worried about that. It's the first week of football.
D Mark, Jeff, Jason and Jeff Here. We're at Moe's Barbecue,
Bent Creek and Auburn, right across from Sam's Club. We'll
be here for the next fourteen or so weeks bringing
you the Coaches Show, brought to you by the Orthopedic Clinic,
(01:13:21):
Moe's Barbecue, Goryez Furniture, and Frederick.
Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
Dean Funeral Home and Crematory.
Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
We're glad to have them as our sponsor, and more importantly,
moles here too, because without all of them, we couldn't
be able to eat. So Jason Allen is the head
coach of Chambers Academy, starting his thirteenth season. One hundred
and twenty three wins in twelve season, which my mad
tells me that's ten a year.
Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
Do pretty good there. Coach under ninety wins, under ninety
one wins in.
Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
Twenty three seasons as head coach, two consecutive state championships.
She played start with Mississippi this week, coach, good evening,
Good to be back.
Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
Yes, sir, I got I did some homework. Jason did
it for me.
Speaker 9 (01:14:00):
Did you always do a great job?
Speaker 3 (01:14:01):
Well, thank you?
Speaker 9 (01:14:02):
You know just it's great to have football season back.
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
Yes, we love it too.
Speaker 24 (01:14:07):
Excitement in there. And you guys are a constant for
our high school teams. Y'all mean a lot to this
community and we appreciate what you.
Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
Thank you very much. Without look, sixteen names on that board.
Without y'all, we wouldn't be here. So it's both ways, coach,
and we try to change up a little bit and
get it quicker so we can get people in and
out the way we do it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
And so I think that's real good. All right, coach,
you won it last year. You coming in here fresh start,
big week. Tell me a little bit about your team.
Speaker 24 (01:14:34):
Yep.
Speaker 9 (01:14:34):
What every year is of new year? It is, Yeah,
but we didn't lose many.
Speaker 24 (01:14:40):
We're gonna return seventeen seniors this year, which is a
big class for us in fifteen juniors. So we're excited
about those guys. They've been in our program a lot
of a long time. A lot of those guys were
sophomores that started on that twenty twenty three state championship team,
and so they said, hey, coach, we just want to
we want to do our thing now.
Speaker 9 (01:15:01):
We want to leave our.
Speaker 24 (01:15:02):
Legacy for this program, and they want to they want
to win it again, which would make.
Speaker 3 (01:15:08):
A three peak. That's hard to do about that three peak? Absolutely,
And who owns the right to that?
Speaker 8 (01:15:14):
That's the uh the Los Goggle Bulls.
Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
Yeah, that's right, three peaks. All right, Struggle Mississippi. Who
what we know about them?
Speaker 9 (01:15:22):
Yeah? They're a big school.
Speaker 24 (01:15:24):
If I had to say for the people around here,
they would be equivalent to a Lea Scott Glenwood, about
eight hundred students in their high in their middle and
high school.
Speaker 9 (01:15:34):
That was the only game we lost last year.
Speaker 24 (01:15:36):
We lost thirty five thirty one over there, and uh
we turned the ball over three times in the first
half and that ended up being our demise. So, uh
this year they got to make that five and a
half hour bus drive over to La Fette, and uh,
I felt like last year they got a Mississippi whistle.
I hope we get an Alabama whistle this year.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
All right, now, tell me a little bit about your team.
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
I've been talking offense. Let's just start with your offense,
and you tell me about your offense.
Speaker 24 (01:16:06):
Yeah, well, our offensive line is is what we was
is the strength of our team.
Speaker 9 (01:16:12):
We called in.
Speaker 3 (01:16:12):
You had the biggest group at media days, by the way, go.
Speaker 24 (01:16:14):
Ahead, Well we got some We do have some big kids,
and you know, we feel like our offensive line for
us is the tip of the spear for us. We
want to draw blood first with those guys up front,
and everything we build is around those guys and what
they can do up front. And uh so we're gonna
go as those offensive linemen go. And you know, our
(01:16:37):
our brand of football is we're gonna try to be physical.
We want to punch you and rap between eyes and
uh and see see how you're gonna.
Speaker 9 (01:16:45):
See how you're gonna like it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
Well a minute, coach, you had a big group at
media that that's a big, big looking group of young
men in the line.
Speaker 24 (01:16:52):
They're good kids and they work hard in the weight room,
and so we're excited about that.
Speaker 5 (01:16:56):
Now.
Speaker 24 (01:16:57):
We did lose probably one of the better players in
history school year, Luke tarbor So, and he had played
running back for US and he was as a Player
of the Year. So we got some we're not gonna
replace him with one guy that's gonna be by committee.
When we got several backs that are gonna try to
step in there. And then of course we got to uh,
we got to get where we need to get at
the quarterback position.
Speaker 9 (01:17:16):
Uh this year as well. But uh, I feel good
about us.
Speaker 18 (01:17:19):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (01:17:20):
We're gonna be a run, play action team and we're
gonna try to own a lot of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
It's kind of been you a forte.
Speaker 9 (01:17:25):
Well, I think this is how you win football.
Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
It is really Well. We were just talking to.
Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Turn Jeff Coach Motley with Borgover his mysef when he
was talking about it's still eleven versus eleven blocking tacting.
Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
I mean, you can put all it, but that's the
name of it.
Speaker 24 (01:17:42):
A great quote this summer it said, football is a
really simple game made complicated by people who should know better.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
You know what, You know what, Yeah, that's about right.
That is about right.
Speaker 24 (01:17:54):
So so you know, we try to make things look
confusing for you, but we're doing the same stuff up front.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
We talked about your offense defense.
Speaker 24 (01:18:02):
Defensively, and I think our defensive line this could be
one of the better defensive lines I've.
Speaker 8 (01:18:07):
Ever coached in my really as coach.
Speaker 9 (01:18:10):
Wow, I just I really feel that way. Well, we don't.
Speaker 24 (01:18:14):
We don't lose any starters off last year's team up front,
and I thought we were very dominant last year against
the run, and those guys have only gotten bigger and
stronger this year.
Speaker 8 (01:18:22):
Did you play on the defense inside the ball?
Speaker 9 (01:18:24):
He did.
Speaker 24 (01:18:24):
He played linebackers slash our money back, which kind of
was a safety hybrid linebacker. So yeah, he will be
our biggest thing We've got to replace in one outside linebacker.
Speaker 9 (01:18:33):
Other than that, everybody else returns on our defense.
Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
That's that's tough.
Speaker 8 (01:18:37):
That's real tough.
Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
Big crowd at home, I know that's important.
Speaker 24 (01:18:40):
I think this could be the biggest crowd of the season.
I think it's gonna be a great football game and
just a great way.
Speaker 8 (01:18:45):
You think, just a big game.
Speaker 9 (01:18:48):
I think so.
Speaker 24 (01:18:49):
And I think the people in our area are football
crazy and they to go to.
Speaker 8 (01:18:52):
A football game. They are. Yeah, I know a bunch
of that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
Brandon on radio or anything.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
Yeah, anything else you want to bring before we go, Coach,
just that, Uh, you know, I wish all the teams
the best of love and all these kids and uh,
everybody's safe too.
Speaker 9 (01:19:07):
Yeah, and uh just look forward to.
Speaker 24 (01:19:09):
Uh to everybody having a great year hopefully and uh
and uh just keeping our kids healthy and teaching them
how to be better.
Speaker 9 (01:19:17):
Dope.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Amen, you lost your quarterback, and I want to say
I'm sorry about that young man. I hope he gets
hope everything goes well for him through an injury. And
you handled it with class, and he brought it up
as I think.
Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
But I wanted to let him know you tell him
I hate it. I don't know him, but I really
hate that to hear that.
Speaker 8 (01:19:32):
Coach. Okay, buddy, thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
I mean that. I hope everything goes well with him.
Speaker 8 (01:19:36):
Jason, he got eleven, got eleven game schedule too.
Speaker 9 (01:19:39):
Yeah, we're gonna pull eleven.
Speaker 8 (01:19:40):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 24 (01:19:41):
So we're going to uh, we're going to Tallahassee, Florida
in October.
Speaker 9 (01:19:45):
Yeah that game in our open way.
Speaker 3 (01:19:46):
You did tell me that mc clay, that one I
did see that. I didn't know. Okay, eleven games, Yeah, I.
Speaker 8 (01:19:53):
Don't play fourteen straight weeks hopefully right, hope.
Speaker 3 (01:19:55):
So yeah, there you go, there you go. Good to
see coach. Thank you guys to Jason A.
Speaker 2 (01:20:00):

Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
Yes, yes, have you enjoyed it?
Speaker 8 (01:20:53):

Speaker 10 (01:20:53):
So far, so good?
Speaker 3 (01:20:54):
All right, got food ready to go to right right,
get something every week?
Speaker 8 (01:21:00):
Me and so I give us a little background on you.
Speaker 10 (01:21:03):
Kevin heff uh coaching career.
Speaker 14 (01:21:06):
Yeah, I'm coming from the college level Lincoln University up
in Pennsylvania, officer coordinator, quarterback coach. Been there for two years.
Prior to that, I was at Austin High School up
in Decatur.
Speaker 10 (01:21:20):
That's yeah in there. Uh great?
Speaker 8 (01:21:26):
Then the same one man that that yeah uhh yeah,
yeah yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:21:33):
I learned a lot from him. It's a really good coach.
Speaker 4 (01:21:36):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:21:37):
What got you down here?
Speaker 8 (01:21:39):
True to my heart?
Speaker 10 (01:21:41):
Yes, true to my heart.
Speaker 14 (01:21:42):
Me playing college football in making count that Tuskie University
in All American, all those things, and it's one of
the key areas that I you know, I used to
go get my my my weekly football fixed from before
I played my inspiration.
Speaker 10 (01:21:57):
Yeah, I used to go down now to the game.
This man right it can vouch for me.
Speaker 3 (01:22:01):
Yeah, I didn't mean that. I'm so sorry.
Speaker 9 (01:22:07):
I know where. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
I will never make that talking off the radio and
carrying it on the radio.
Speaker 8 (01:22:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 14 (01:22:14):
So me coming down getting my getting my inspiration from
that community, seeing how the games.
Speaker 10 (01:22:21):
Used to go. It just brings you back to the
high high school.
Speaker 14 (01:22:24):
Moments when you played and being a being a small
community that was big hearted. Winning came to football.
Speaker 8 (01:22:29):
I just I just greve with it, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:22:31):
That long coach, that's pretty cool. All right, Well, tell
me about your teams.
Speaker 10 (01:22:35):
My team is very, very very great group of guys,
big at heart.
Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
Lower numbers, but that's been we've had that problem.
Speaker 10 (01:22:44):
And yeah, so we have.
Speaker 14 (01:22:47):
We're senior heavy, got a lot of guys that's coming back,
got a lot of guys with a lot of experience,
but were on the bottom half. We got to get
those guys up. So I have some guys that have
to step up a little bit, you know, some seventh
and eighth Graatest is well playing varsity football because of
the numbers. We don't have a JV or junior high team,
so we're gonna be up for the challenge. And that's
(01:23:10):
one thing I challenged my guys when I first stepped
on campus. And it's one of those things where you know,
you understand why twute legion, when I'm trying to bring
to you, We'll be all right, no matter the age,
no matter what going on.
Speaker 10 (01:23:21):
Just give me a great attitude and bring your heart
with you. I fix the rest, no excuses.
Speaker 8 (01:23:26):
Yes, yes, I love that. I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
So you got a gamut from seven to twelve, Yeah,
from seven to twelve, you playing them all?
Speaker 10 (01:23:34):
Yes, if you can walk, see you can grow actions.
You come with me. I got a place for you.
Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
Now, your front line? How many you got playing both ways?
Speaker 10 (01:23:44):
Everybody?
Speaker 3 (01:23:44):
Everybody?
Speaker 14 (01:23:45):
Everybody When we first when I first got in my jeurisdiction,
everybody had a defensive position.
Speaker 10 (01:23:50):
First.
Speaker 14 (01:23:50):
That your defensive I'm an offensive doc. Yeah, but I
know defenses. I know the emphasis on defense, and it
doesn't matter. And get the misconception of how to win
football games. You know defenses. You have to be able
to stop somebody you can only win if you stop somebody.
You to score sixty eight, the sixty nine somebody stopped somebody,
(01:24:13):
they did.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
You're right, You're right.
Speaker 14 (01:24:14):
So I relay that message to my guys, and we're
picking up very very well, and I'm anxious.
Speaker 10 (01:24:21):
To get out there on the football field and show what.
Speaker 8 (01:24:23):
We can do.
Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
I bet that's probably the biggest With you being a
first year I bet you probably about worse than the kids.
Speaker 3 (01:24:29):
You can't wait to get out of there.
Speaker 10 (01:24:30):
Ca oh man. My coach, Coach Well tells me to
calm down all the time you got like you playing.
So I'm very very high energetic guy.
Speaker 8 (01:24:44):
I get in it with my guys.
Speaker 14 (01:24:47):
When they see me, they see the intensity, they see
what it takes to be competitive day in and day out.
And when we hit the football field, we're not stopping
until the scoreboards as four zeros on.
Speaker 8 (01:24:58):
It in the four in that core like that. When
did you When did you get the game with Goshen?
Is it this week? Did you just? Yes? Okay?
Speaker 14 (01:25:07):
The game with Goshen really came by a blessing. As
soon as uh I was looking for a game because
of the situation with poker on one't able to reschedule
the game with when a resketched game, but I knew
what it takes, and I wanted my guys to be
able to get some type of.
Speaker 10 (01:25:28):
Third here before we played our first game.
Speaker 8 (01:25:30):
That jembree, I didn't know that.
Speaker 27 (01:25:34):
So it's a game, yes, six thirty said that, Ye sixty,
this is a real game Friday nights, a jamboree game,
one of our games.
Speaker 3 (01:25:44):
Okay, all right, as a real game. But yeah, when
you said third and I was like, wait a minute,
this may.
Speaker 8 (01:25:49):
Be a practice.
Speaker 10 (01:25:49):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, So that coach is very very adamant.
Speaker 14 (01:25:54):
He was willing to come down and very very great guy,
highly respect Then then I love everything that he guy's
going on over that ghosten swell coach.
Speaker 3 (01:26:04):
Where give me, give me something, tell.
Speaker 16 (01:26:05):
Me what you got.
Speaker 8 (01:26:06):
Well we're doing we're doing great.
Speaker 10 (01:26:08):
Coach Cuff came in and doing a great job.
Speaker 26 (01:26:11):
First of all, he went from practicing workouts in the
afternoon to six o'clock in the morning.
Speaker 8 (01:26:16):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
Change it up a little bit, give him up in there,
give myself coach up.
Speaker 26 (01:26:20):
And I don't think the kids going to buy in today.
And we had nine eight percent of the kids showing.
Speaker 25 (01:26:25):
Is that right?
Speaker 8 (01:26:26):
Six to nine o'clock in.
Speaker 3 (01:26:27):
The morning and they're off in the afternoon.
Speaker 14 (01:26:29):
Coach, Yes, often summertime, so I want my kids to
enjoy the summer. Just give me what you got and
I'll have you back in the bed about ten thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
All right, Now, what about do you practice in the
mornings now or y'all late now?
Speaker 14 (01:26:39):
I wish, but no due to school policy and home
y'all y'all have buses.
Speaker 8 (01:26:44):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah right, but.
Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
You would like there's a lot of teams doing that
now weird.
Speaker 10 (01:26:47):
Yes, yes, yeah, I come from getting up at full thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:26:52):
Yeah, but you know what, that's interesting. You said they
all bought in, had the day.
Speaker 9 (01:26:55):
Off, bought in and like really buying in.
Speaker 26 (01:26:58):
And I think the vibe and not a souca a
lot different than it used to be good, and I
think we'll want to open up.
Speaker 8 (01:27:05):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:27:06):
Coach up. Thank you for being here, coach Ware, thank you, y'all.
Speaker 10 (01:27:09):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
The Suger ghost in this week six thirty out of
Jamary at Barbara County next week. Yes, just there, coach
where good to see you. But man, not a soccer
Blue Devils in the house. We'll take a break, be
right back.
Speaker 8 (01:27:21):
Yeah, Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches Show,
coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue, one of
our sponsors. Our other sponsors are Gory's Furniture, Orthopedic Clinic,
and Frederick Dean Funeral Home. And we got coach Smitty
Rider from Saint Anne p. Chili High School in Columbus, Georgia.
(01:27:45):
That's it, coach. Tell me about your team. Well, we've
got a good team, Jeff.
Speaker 18 (01:27:54):
We didn't play really well last week, but we had
some injury issues and one of our best players couldn't
be there do to some other obligations. And you know,
when you're small school with about forty kids, it doesn't
take many and you kind of get yourself in a bind.
Speaker 8 (01:28:08):
And I'm still adapting.
Speaker 18 (01:28:12):
To a small school ball and I really didn't have
a good enough plan for having people injured and having
replacements ready and that kind of thing.
Speaker 8 (01:28:21):
That that, and it showed up and it hurt us.
Speaker 18 (01:28:23):
We were It was a really good ball game, and
we kind of faded at the end because at our
offense we had so many people out we really couldn't
run anything that we'd worked on all week, so it
was it was kind of a mess. But we've got
a really good team. We've got some really good players.
Our offensive line is really big, and you know, we've
got some guys that can run.
Speaker 8 (01:28:45):
Uh, you know, we just it's a process.
Speaker 18 (01:28:49):
They haven't thrown more than about six passes a game
for the last six years, and you know, we like
to throw it around a little bit, so that's been
a change. We had a quarterback that moved in last
month and got forced into action Friday night.
Speaker 8 (01:29:02):
So yeah, so how much of the playbook did he
Not much.
Speaker 18 (01:29:06):
But he's a really good player, really good player. Reminds
me a lot of Malik Cunningham, who we had at
Park Crossing years ago that's now in the NFL, played
at Louisville.
Speaker 8 (01:29:14):
He's that kind of athlete.
Speaker 18 (01:29:16):
And uh, you know, he he did it the best
he could made them through a seventy five yard touchdown
pass early in the game and uh and some other
really good plays. But I think he'll be a little
bit more comfortable this week. And uh, you know, it's
just different for me, you know. And and uh, my
two coordinators were both one was at Phoenix City last year.
(01:29:38):
The other one was at Hoover, so you know, the
three of us are still adapting to a small school situation.
Speaker 8 (01:29:43):
He said, forty Is that a forty man roster? Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
Okay, so you got a forty man roster. How do
you how do you do a guy who comes in
on a Monday and he's thrown into start?
Speaker 5 (01:29:52):
You do you go?
Speaker 3 (01:29:53):
Are you drawing well dirt?
Speaker 7 (01:29:55):
Well?
Speaker 8 (01:29:56):
Yes, and no.
Speaker 18 (01:29:58):
We had a package that we were going to play anyway,
but that kind of got messed up. All our best
receiver he pulled his hamstring on that seventy five yard
touchdown that we threw early in the game, so he
was out. We've got a kid we got out from basketball.
He's a six foot four, two hundred and ten pound kid.
He plays wide receiver. He looks a lot like Sadarian
(01:30:20):
at Benjamin Russell, right, that's the kind of mindset. Well,
he had to be somewhere else, couldn't be at the game,
so he wasn't there. We had our ex receiver on
the week before, our starter hurt his knee, so we
were playing a freshman out there already. I mean, it
just it was just and then our running back sprains
(01:30:42):
his ankle in the third quarter, so we were really
down okay, pretty far, you know, and our best, one
of our best DB's broke his collar bone. I mean
it was all kind of stuff like that going on.
But we've worked really hard this week. I promise the
kids I wouldn't let that happen again. We've got kids
that are ready to play at least too deep at
(01:31:02):
every position, so if something happens this week, we should
be more prepared for it.
Speaker 8 (01:31:08):
Are you getting anybody back that you didn't have?
Speaker 18 (01:31:10):
Well, yeah, he's back, and the running backs he practiced today.
He's still a little gimpy. I hope we can play
him some Friday night. But the biggest thing is we've
got some other kids ready to play now, and the
quarterback is a lot.
Speaker 8 (01:31:27):
More further along. When he threw that seventy five yard
as you go.
Speaker 18 (01:31:29):
Home, look, yes I did, Okay, yes I did. He's
he's the real deal now and we thought we had.
He was moving in in in the spring and uh
Carver High School in Columbus, that's the best public school
right now.
Speaker 8 (01:31:42):
Football wise.
Speaker 18 (01:31:44):
They won the state championship in two A and Georgia
last year, and their starting quarterback got in trouble, so
they came got ours. Oh okay, Well he went over
there to start with and he you know, he was
there all summer right up the first week and decided
it just wasn't for him. He didn't like it, and
that's when he came to us last Monday.
Speaker 8 (01:32:04):
Okay, now who have you got this week?
Speaker 2 (01:32:06):
Cook?
Speaker 18 (01:32:06):
We played Tatnall Square Academy. They're out of make and
also they were really good last year. There's their coach.
I can't call his name, but he was. He's like
a Hall of Fame guy that was there forever had retired.
Well he's come back now. He won some state championships
and that kind of thing. And they're really well coached.
Speaker 8 (01:32:25):
They know they do what they do, you know.
Speaker 18 (01:32:28):
So it should be a good, good test for us,
hopefully we can get back on the right track. We
played really well in our preseason game, so we played
we've played twice right, your special teams, you know, and
going into that game that's what I was worried the
most about, and they played really well. We made we
made both extra points, we kicked a thirty yard field goal.
(01:32:48):
My punter, who looked terrible all the way up to
the game, averaged about thirty five thirty six yards a kick,
and you know, we got really good long snappers and
our operations were good. So the special teams have been
been a bright spot so far.
Speaker 8 (01:33:01):
What's the youngest the ninth grader that played? You got
some younger than that.
Speaker 18 (01:33:04):
Well, in our league, they won't allow eighth graders to
play varsity, But I've got.
Speaker 8 (01:33:10):
A couple that could play for us.
Speaker 3 (01:33:12):
You mean in the whole state, are just in your.
Speaker 18 (01:33:14):
In our divisions in G I A A. Okay, they
don't allow that in football. They can in other sports,
but they don't let them do it in football. And
then I've got a linebacker that be starting for us
right now.
Speaker 8 (01:33:27):
Does he do two years in the ninth grade? Coach?
I mean, is it an age thing or grade grade?
You don't know?
Speaker 15 (01:33:33):
Eight?
Speaker 8 (01:33:34):
Okay, he's got an eighth grader that he said would start.
Jesus physical, eighth.
Speaker 18 (01:33:39):
Graders can play rooms that We've got five eighth graders
that practice with us every day.
Speaker 8 (01:33:46):
Then they go play middle school. Man, i'd be promoting
some guys to the ninth grade.
Speaker 16 (01:33:49):
Coach, Well, they gotta be.
Speaker 18 (01:33:52):
We don't look we're an academic institution.
Speaker 9 (01:33:55):
I mean we're a blue ribbon we're blue ribbon school.
Speaker 4 (01:33:57):
We're the only one in enjoy the well.
Speaker 8 (01:34:00):
I understand that, but they can repeat that great, so
you know we're not gonna do that.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
This kid is he broken off?
Speaker 8 (01:34:10):
He is?
Speaker 18 (01:34:11):
Uh, but you know, I'm loving it. It's a good
place and uh, good people and I'm having a good time.
Speaker 8 (01:34:18):
We're good against Square.
Speaker 3 (01:34:23):
Don't ask him.
Speaker 4 (01:34:24):

coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. And our
other sponsors, of course, are or the Orthopedic Clinic yet uh,
Frederick Dean Funeral Home and Gory's Furniture Express.
Speaker 10 (01:35:08):
And we got coach.
Speaker 8 (01:35:11):
Newman. I almost said, Nathan, I'm sorry, coach defensive cordator.
Speaker 10 (01:35:16):
Yes, sir, you swapped over from offense.
Speaker 16 (01:35:17):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (01:35:18):
Yep, I did the first year, first year of defense. Yeah,
all right, Friday night or Friday you guys open up?
What time seven o'clock? So Friday night you're hosting Cornerstone, Yes, sir, Cornerstone,
of course.
Speaker 13 (01:35:30):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (01:35:31):
They won the game last year, pretty big. Of course
they what they've back to back state champs.
Speaker 10 (01:35:35):
I haven't lost the game.
Speaker 8 (01:35:36):
And you know, they had everybody coming back last year.
They've still got them coming back.
Speaker 28 (01:35:41):
You know, they're h I think they graduated like seventeen seniors.
So freight man ball, that's a lot.
Speaker 8 (01:35:46):
You ain't kidd man, you don't.
Speaker 28 (01:35:49):
Yeah, So they have a lot of junior I guess
there's not many seniors that are starting this year for them,
according to you know, Max Preps. But okay, they got
a lot of juniors. Knew a lot of new faces.
I think they have one guy that we recognized.
Speaker 15 (01:36:01):
On the D line.
Speaker 10 (01:36:01):
I think he's their one senior.
Speaker 8 (01:36:03):
What can you tell me about them, coach, because the
seventeen seniors, I'm assuming that that was the makeup of.
Speaker 10 (01:36:09):
Yeah, that was all of them.
Speaker 28 (01:36:10):
We were preparing like what they did last year, basically
just pound the ball and take deep shots. So we're
That's what we've been getting ready for. But also with
reminding our guys that they can't come out with anything.
We don't even know because they got a whole new team.
They could come out and spread it out a little bit.
They could still be doing the ground and pounds. So
you're trying to be ready.
Speaker 8 (01:36:30):
For all of it. All right, Cornerstone, they've been back
to back state champions, will be very good for a
long time. We're not sure this year because they seventeen
seniors in the class. Where is Cornerstone.
Speaker 10 (01:36:39):
It's in Columbiana.
Speaker 8 (01:36:40):
Okay, up, I knew that, but I needed to, yes, sir,
you to refresh my memory. What doesn't matter, because they're
coming to Yeah, they're coming up. They're coming in to
Waverley cam'peel.
Speaker 10 (01:36:50):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (01:36:51):
So all right, our team, the Southern Prep that we're uh,
we're we're Our line and D line will be strong.
We got two seniors that are returning. They start to
every game for us basically since they were freshmen. Would
want them. Yes, sir, so we should be good.
Speaker 18 (01:37:07):
Uh.
Speaker 28 (01:37:08):
I think we're gonna try to run the ball, stay
on the ground because we're we're limited with our roster.
Speaker 10 (01:37:13):
I think we have fifteen kids, and six of.
Speaker 28 (01:37:16):
Those or five of those, or seventh and eight or
eighth grader or eighth ninth graders, they don't that shouldn't
be on varsity field. So we're gonna try to shorten
the game as much as we can. We are starting eight,
I think we take I take anybody in the state.
But it's just after that we get tired, you get
you know, injured, if it happens.
Speaker 8 (01:37:36):
In the season.
Speaker 28 (01:37:36):
Starting they played on both sides of the ball, yes, sir, okay,
so it's good. It's that's that's gonna be the challenging
part for us, trying to get them breaks when we can.
Speaker 8 (01:37:43):
How many will you think just in a regular game,
how many total would you play?
Speaker 10 (01:37:49):
I'm fourteen would be great.
Speaker 28 (01:37:51):
Yeah, because you've got to give some of the guys
effecially the O line and gotta get them a break.
Speaker 10 (01:37:55):
And they got on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 8 (01:37:57):
That's what I was thinking.
Speaker 10 (01:37:58):
It's gonna be rough.
Speaker 28 (01:37:59):
But oh, we've we've been conditioning pretty well, so hopefully
it's not hasn't been as hots rain fridays.
Speaker 10 (01:38:05):
Hopefully that keeps a little cool for them, so that
should be all right.
Speaker 2 (01:38:09):
Well, I hope so I'm missed. I'm not sure you
talking about the ten game schedule with the region. Did
y'all talk about that?
Speaker 7 (01:38:15):
We have it?
Speaker 3 (01:38:15):
Yeah, that's a that's in the ten region games. That's
all that makes it easy. Yeah, and they're all eight
right you don't play I mean, yeah, man, can't that
help you guys? Or does it?
Speaker 10 (01:38:27):
We've done eleven man, eleven the next I'm just curious.
Speaker 8 (01:38:30):
You tell me, Oh god, I remember when you guys
were having us, people would back out on you. You
have to find games. You got ten that you're gonna
bring the A s A. You got ten games?
Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
You tell me.
Speaker 10 (01:38:40):
Yeah, it's it's a lot better.
Speaker 28 (01:38:41):
You know, we know who we have every week. There's
still I think, uh and there are three that join
in A three.
Speaker 3 (01:38:47):
Yeah, let's see. Uh, well you can look at that.
I don't know if I don't think they listed the
three late one.
Speaker 10 (01:38:53):
Trinity is new, brand new heritage nook. That's exactly right.
Those three came from eleven man in Trinity And.
Speaker 2 (01:39:01):
Tell you, I couldn't remember if making Thea's played eight
last year, Yes, sir, okay, but see they got and
they've got I think he got three more can come
in next year.
Speaker 10 (01:39:10):
They were trying to trying to expand a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:39:12):
So that's got to help you.
Speaker 2 (01:39:13):
And with scheduling, and I believe you got five and
five right when three four, five at home and five
on road.
Speaker 3 (01:39:19):
Y'all have lights now, right.
Speaker 10 (01:39:21):
Yes, sir, yeah, that's what on the baseball field.
Speaker 8 (01:39:23):
But I say, doesn't coach back do the schedules? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:39:28):
Yes, But what I'm saying is they when they were
they didn't It wasn't enough. Yeah, yeah, where they don't
have to play anybody.
Speaker 3 (01:39:36):
We were worried this year with.
Speaker 28 (01:39:39):
I wish team was one of them was if you
have enough for the teams we're trying to find a
game And.
Speaker 3 (01:39:43):
Well, everybody I know that I didn't mean to. Coach
Birch said he loved the fact at Springwood played in
the set.
Speaker 8 (01:39:49):
Yeah you know, you know you yeah, yeah, on the
lakeside that flipped back and forth, played some eleven place
coach good.
Speaker 3 (01:39:56):
See, yes, thank you. Break will come back with more
from the High School Coaches Show. APT modes
Speaker 13 (01:40:06):
