Speaker 2 (01:33):
I'm good, doing good. Neat that up a little bit
back there you go.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
All right, coach, all right, your number by heart would
be six.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Uh, this is five, I'm giving you.

Speaker 6 (01:45):
I'm old, so that's okay.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I am to coach, all right, so number five?

Speaker 3 (01:49):
All right, So starting this year, going to hs A
from the s A talk a little bit about that coach.

Speaker 7 (01:54):
Hey, listen, we're excited about it.

Speaker 6 (01:56):
You know, the kids are excited and.

Speaker 7 (01:58):
It's been a big talk, you know.

Speaker 8 (02:00):
Uh, I was in the hs A for twenty five
years and uh, you know with A I s A
for four years and now we're coming back and I'm
really excited about the competition and uh, you know, just
getting back to the normal things for for me, you know,
being uh being h s A.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Yeah, this is kind of where you uh really are
you new until you dipped?

Speaker 5 (02:18):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Sure as far as public schools, that's right. What are
you thinking?

Speaker 5 (02:22):
Coach?

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Before we talked to to seniorshere.

Speaker 8 (02:23):
He look like I said, you know, we're excited, but
the kids are excited. Uh, it's it's unknown for them.

Speaker 7 (02:29):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (02:29):
They've they prepared just like they always have.

Speaker 8 (02:31):
You know, we've had great practices in this in fall
camp and uh, you know we've had some up and downs,
uh practice wise, but our our down practices are not
that bad.

Speaker 6 (02:40):
It's just it's just our.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Standards, you know.

Speaker 8 (02:42):
We we try to set and uh, but we let
them know when they're bad. But uh, the guys are
excited about playing again. It's unknown to them. Uh, they're
they're looking forward to seeing different teams.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Well, they are going to see a bunch and you
open Friday night against Excel Excell Judge Scott Jeff, you
want to have something for that, Yeah, Excel.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
Coach, I mean not. You had to watch last year's
film on them already. I guess I don't really know.
The only thing I know about the Excel is Lee
Roy Jordan went to school. That's news to me.

Speaker 9 (03:07):
I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
That's good.

Speaker 8 (03:08):
But no, Yeah, we've seen a couple of last year's film.
We know they're a big team. They got big players.
They're gonna have athletes. Any school that we play in
HSA is gonna have three or four you know, maybe
five and three A. But you know, I told you
guys today, you know, three or four five guys are
not gonna be the team if we played the way
we're supposed to play. We do things the right way,
and that's what we've been preaching since day one.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
I mean, it's it's it's football. You know this, man,
you know it's probably gonna be it ain't gonna be
those proably aint gonna be a lot of running clocks
in the second hand.

Speaker 8 (03:39):
No, no, And that's where we started out the summer
conditioning better and more. You know, I told the guys
we got to play the whole game. There's no more
coming out of halftimes. You got to play the whole game.
And you know, we don't have two patuone our seven
eight of our guys flip just flip over and play defense,
you know, so that they play in the whole game.
They're playing on special teams. So we had to be
better conditioned this year.

Speaker 10 (04:00):
And and they are.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
We've done, you know, a lot of hard work.

Speaker 8 (04:03):
And I went back to old coach mccracking daye where
we had the sixteen.

Speaker 11 (04:06):
One tens test.

Speaker 8 (04:08):
So we ran them all year and they got tests
at the end of the year, and you know they
had if they didn't make the times. You know, they
had to run every morning. So everybody made their times.
But they're in better condition. They're in good shape. They're
ready to go. And I am too.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
All right, Yeah, you had was it two thousand d
rushers last year?

Speaker 10 (04:24):
You had?

Speaker 6 (04:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:26):
I think so, yeah, And then well you had you
had missed everything. Jake why he ran for a thousand
and called one thousand orders.

Speaker 11 (04:32):
Yeah, and we had the other guys running the ball.

Speaker 8 (04:33):
They didn't quite get a thousand because they didn't touch
as many times, you know, so uh, we we got
had four good running backs last year, and now we
got three of them back this year. You know, so
we didn't lose a whole lot. We lost good a
senior class, but there's only like six of them totally.
Now this year we got a huge senior class. We
got eighteen of them.

Speaker 12 (04:50):
You know.

Speaker 6 (04:50):
I was talking to coach a while ago.

Speaker 8 (04:51):
I said, I think at least fifteen of them been
together since third grade, fourth grade, so they've been there.

Speaker 7 (04:56):
Together a while.

Speaker 8 (04:56):
So it's a good group, great leaders, and uh, you
know that they're excited to go.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
All right, speaking of two seniors before we switch head sets,
introduced these to men, and we'll take it from all right.

Speaker 8 (05:06):
We got tonight, you got peals of Reeves. A quarterback,
uh got Tuesday championships under his belt, number fourteen, y'all
see him on Friday night.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
Just an ultimate leader, great kid.

Speaker 8 (05:15):
And then Tyler Kennedy be number seven, one of those
running backs I just mentioned while ago we had last
year also outside linebacker, great young man, great player, good leader.
So I mean they're both exactly what you want as
a football player.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
All right, Coach, I wanna let you sit pailser. Good
evening to you. You go, aw are you Pelser, can
you not hear me? He can't hear me? Oh you can't,
he can't.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Can you get his right?

Speaker 6 (05:37):
Pull?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Pull one one of your back?

Speaker 5 (05:39):
All right?

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Pells Wi tell everybody a little bit about yourself. You
don't mind.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Oh you couldn't hear me? On about where you play?
When you started? I know you stepped in as a sophomore.

Speaker 13 (05:47):
Yes, sir, I played play quarterback. Stepped in as a sophomore.
We've been at least got for a real long time.
I'm excited to get into the season.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
All right, So you stepped in. I want to go
to this real quick. You stepped in when you were
a sophomore one two stir eight titles as a quarterback,
coming in your senior year. Give me your thoughts on
playing this year and certainly in the HSA.

Speaker 13 (06:06):
Yes, sir, I think everybody's excited for the uh, for
the competition.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
You know, we're all.

Speaker 13 (06:10):
It got us a little hungrier, you know, every one
of us. So we've all been working extra hard, getting
extra work in, you know, hit the pound of the
weight room, and we've come together, you know, chemistry is
getting good and we're ready to go out there and
finally play.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Uh you say you are ready to go?

Speaker 9 (06:25):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Yes, sir?

Speaker 2 (06:26):
All right, Tyler, good afternoon. How are you you doing?

Speaker 6 (06:28):
Good?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
And good?

Speaker 5 (06:29):
All right?

Speaker 4 (06:29):
T K.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
You need to tell everybody about yourself where you play,
and I know you played four straight.

Speaker 14 (06:33):
Years yep, right, sir, since ninth grade.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
That's all right. So you played linebacker, go ahead.

Speaker 15 (06:38):
Played linebacker in ninth grade and mainly linebacker in tenth
grade and then did both last year.

Speaker 10 (06:43):
All right.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Coaches said you're gonna run the ball? You ready, yes, sir,
I'm ready?

Speaker 10 (06:47):
All yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
So tell me what you got to do this year
to be successful?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
You coming out of two straight championships in the age,
and they, I say, we've talked about personally going to HSA.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
What are you tell us everybody about.

Speaker 15 (06:58):
I just got to keep paying attention to detail and
practice and you know, doing their thing. I mean, try
to get it practice better every single day and then
that'll translate to the field as all that matters.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
I'm gonna let Jeff fire away here real quick. At
you two ask some questions.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
Yeah, I tells I've seen you play the whole time, Tyler.
I've seen you, but I didn't know who you were. Yes,
The first class that I saw play was the guys
were in the fourth grade or tenth graders now, so
I don't know, uh huh, I don't. I can't remember who.
I know who the coach was, it was Robert Maddox,
but I can't remember who the players are. Some of

(07:32):
them are brothers, you know, like like you got a
Zachary young man coming up this year, right, it's gonna.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Be playing with you guys.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Miles was his brother. How many of them are there?
There's three? Is there one younger than Brooks?

Speaker 2 (07:45):
He's seven? We said there's three and seven.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
What do you What side of the ball do you
like playing the best?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I play?

Speaker 16 (07:51):
I like offense playter I.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Really, yes, sir, you play defense all this time? Yep, yep,
it's something different, right, Yes?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
The how many times you want to toe it tomorrow night,
Friday night? Tyler? That's right, it's many. You got to
number twenty twenty five, whatever that is?

Speaker 16 (08:05):
Whatever they want?

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Are you gonna are you gonna feel punts, kicks? You're
gonna do it all?

Speaker 15 (08:09):
No, sir, that'll be Grady and Hutchins.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Okay, all right, what about you pails? Are anything else
for a quarterback.

Speaker 12 (08:15):
That's sir, not about it.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Okay, you hadn't played any other position, that's sir, not
practice any other positions.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
About the ninth grade, I got a big, big Have
we changed anything offensively or defensively?

Speaker 13 (08:26):
We're we're gonna, We're gonna continue to do our stuff.
You know, our coaches, they know what they like to do,
and you know we want to do what our coaches
want to do. They put us in the best position
to win. So okay, we're gonna stick with what they
want to do. And that's I think that's a great decision.
And I don't think we need to change anything. We
just need to focus on us.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
All right.

Speaker 9 (08:41):
Let me.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I want to know about Christian and Hutchins. How are
they doing? They're doing great, sir, great. And I call
him new boy Hayden. How's he doing?

Speaker 17 (08:50):
Oh, he's doing great.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
And all three of those guys are gonna be huge. Yeah,
Hay's got to have the right number in the program. Coach,
you had the wrong name last year.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
So who's kicking for you? There you go, kickers got
to kick.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
You can't hear anybody, but you know you don't have
a headset on We're gonna take it.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Tell us who's kicking coach? Yeah, I'm pretty good. Guys
kicking right now.

Speaker 7 (09:07):
We got a pretty good funny.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
But we got guys that are doing a great.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
Job right now.

Speaker 18 (09:15):
We got a new kid to move in from Surrey
that is probably gonna be the we'll go kicker right now,
Parker Orbles or tv A l that's Orcans and then
uh Cookie.

Speaker 9 (09:26):
Barry Cook's punner.

Speaker 8 (09:28):
You got Max Hammer that's backing up both of them,
who's doing a good job, could be a kicker anywhere else.
And we got James Pace is doing the kicking and
real exactly is also far. We got three guys that
he consitioned to do a great job right now.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
All right, thank you, there you go. Hey, got a
new kicker. Thank you very much.

Speaker 5 (09:42):
T K.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Pells are good to see you guys. Good lucks. All right,
you got it.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
You're listening to the Ice School Coaching Show live from
Most barbecuepers and about the Orthopedic Clinic and Gory's frontship
Express Springwood, and we come.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Back to the High School Coaching Show. We're right here
at Moe's Original Barbecues, brought to you by the Orthopedy
Clinic and Gore's Furniture Express. De Mark Mitchell coach coach
Burt from spring Wood is next coach up coach uh
starting uh wait see y'all, y'all open up this week with.

Speaker 11 (10:16):
We're going to uh Southern Christian here Christian?

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yeah, coach Scott, thank you for telling me that. Yeah,
I did, I did.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
That's the Eagles and uhs No are they the I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
What I said Southern Christian. I got them in the
I know's.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
I won't say that I thought they were, but I
do know a little bit about them.

Speaker 19 (10:36):
I know, I know Jackson. He he does a good job.
He round man for long, sure has and.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
He had a man, he had a son.

Speaker 9 (10:44):
It was all world.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Uh when he played at ballad yep.

Speaker 11 (10:47):
Do the slang that thing around and ye do a
little bit of.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
He did it all. Uh the uh Southern Christians y'all had,
y'all did?

Speaker 12 (10:57):
Played them last year?

Speaker 19 (10:58):
Yeah we've played them. Yeah, okay, since I've been there
the two years in a row.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Remember the ISA.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Now they're not.

Speaker 19 (11:06):
They're kind of like a member in all sports except
the classified ones, you know, volleyball and football and baseball
and softball, they're not full fledged members yet, but in
soccer and in cross country and tennis and some of
those that we don't have classifications, they're kind of like

(11:27):
doing a trial thing. So that whole little group of
home schools are you know, soon to be maybe as
ai s a full fledged members.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Coaches, you're coming off too straight playing for the championship
in eight man in ASA talking about that moving forward
into eight man. I know you're trying to go eleven man,
but right now you're really doing a good job with
Ape Man.

Speaker 19 (11:47):
It was, like I said, all brand new to us
when we started. But it's a great little brand of
football for smaller schools that have limited number of players,
and it gives our kids a great experience, you know,
pep rallies, traveling, you know, playing you know in front
of your home crowd and you know, the spring Wood
fans pack it in and we have.

Speaker 11 (12:08):
Great gates and we travel well with it. So it's
a great experience for our guys.

Speaker 19 (12:13):
Uh, they get a lot of exposure, you know a
lot of the private school things that go back and forth.
Our kids have represented us in the All Star Games
and things like that, so we feel like it's a
good experience for us, and it's been real good fit
for us so far.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
All Right, we were talking about Southern christ Let's talk
about your team. Coach, give us a little rundown. I
know you give us on your offense.

Speaker 19 (12:32):
And we graduated a lot of seniors last year. We
had eight or nine you know that that played a
lot of football, and we had a real good football team,
and injuries kind of clipped us there at the very
end at some key positions in the in the championship game,
we went from being a real good football team to
very average, real quick when we lost all our quarterbacks.

Speaker 11 (12:52):
And so we're returning. We only have.

Speaker 19 (12:56):
One returning senior starter. That'd be Greg Johnson. He's gonna
be a big defensive end for us and h back,
tight end, tight guy and uh he's gonna be a
caftin and and kind of help and and returning with him.

Speaker 11 (13:11):
As his brother c J. Will be a junior.

Speaker 19 (13:13):
He's a he's an all around athlete on the defensive
side of the ball where we need him. And then
he's our running back and he ran for you know,
close close two thousand yards last year. A lot of
that was just playing a half, you know, and when
we get leads would pull him out and didn't want
to get him injured number one thing. And we didn't
want to embarrass anybody else and wanted some young kids

(13:34):
to play. And Tucker Sides is another returning guy. So
those three are kind of like our captain's been our
leaders the whole time. Tucker's a inside linebacker and our
guard for us. And he's a he's a great football
player as well. Uh so we do have a lot
of new new players coming in. We did get another
kid from Oklaka, Clarence More. Clarence is a small kid.

(13:56):
He's he's about five to eight, one hundred and fifty pounds,
but he's great, great hands, great thing.

Speaker 12 (14:00):
Just big in my world.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Come on, great work.

Speaker 11 (14:04):
I don't want to line you up either though, Mark.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
You got off fast.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
How much you say, way, coach, that's twenty pounds.

Speaker 9 (14:14):
More get loaded.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
I knew he's gonna get that, but go ahead, coach.

Speaker 11 (14:20):
But Camp's does a good job. We also have Giovanni.
I can't even think Jivanny's name. You know, he's not
a more work.

Speaker 4 (14:30):
He's been with a few years.

Speaker 11 (14:31):
No, he's the first year.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
I mean you've talked about him. This is young man
has never played.

Speaker 11 (14:35):
Before now, he had never played.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
The international player from he's from.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
He came in to bro he told about when we
had him on the other.

Speaker 11 (14:44):
Day, and he is really surprised us. He likes it.
He's he's getting physical.

Speaker 19 (14:48):
I really thought he wouldn't be and he's he really
has has taken to it. And we're gonna play him
as a d end as well and the receiver. And
you know, you gotta got six six it's gonna be
hard to throw over on one side and Gregg on
the other about six two and a half six three
h they we're gonna be pretty tough. And we have
an international student's been with us three years. He really
got the gap grasp of it playing noseguards. So his

(15:12):
name is Linus Wagon, Niger. And uh so that's that's
kind of solifying our defense right there. And we got
a new quarterback, Wesley Carden. Uh he was at our
school last year and just played basketball and he's done
a real good job developing.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
You're playing hatreds that you're playing a historic stadium.

Speaker 11 (15:30):
I didn't know that now.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
The former Bulldog, well it was called more stadium open
like a bulldog years.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Younger group that you got over your pee wee's they
call the do they play eight or eleven?

Speaker 19 (15:43):
We're playing level Yeah, trying to build up more depth
and we're excited about that group.

Speaker 11 (15:48):
They're having a ball.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Yeah, we talked about its important. It is because Fir's
good see and graduate.

Speaker 5 (15:54):

Speaker 3 (17:01):
I just thought about it, offense defense corner. We don't
have head coach wor Matthew Johnson, but we have the
next best.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
So who wants let's go defense?

Speaker 3 (17:10):
Well I was looking at you, but I know I
was just saying, let's go to defense coach, Yes, sir,
all right, let's break down your team.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Let's go on your side.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
First, defensive side.

Speaker 20 (17:20):
I mean, I think defensive line. We're gonna be all right.

Speaker 21 (17:23):
We got we have seniors back that have been in
our system, same system for three or four years. We
got a really good inside linebacker and Hunter Brian. He's
a sophomore junior. He's a junior, but he's made incredible
leaps from last year to this year. Played good last

(17:44):
Thursday against Woodland, so we expected him.

Speaker 9 (17:47):
To lead our defense.

Speaker 21 (17:48):
He does a good job out there. Are outside linebackers
were led by Reed Mloose. Again he he kind of
does it all. He plays outside back and forth does
a really good job plays receiver for us. And then
he's our all state kicker too, so again really good kid,
and he kind of leads us there. And then then
the secondary and Coach pepper Couch our secondary too. You know,

(18:10):
we got a bunch of athletes in the secondary that
can play a little thin there at times.

Speaker 20 (18:16):
But but as far as uh, our safeties and our.

Speaker 21 (18:20):
Starting corners were, we can be pretty solid when we
line up right and pursue the football.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
All right?

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Did you coach defense at one time?

Speaker 3 (18:29):
That's the reason I looked at you to start with.
I went where you were at one time. Right, Yes,
I'm looking at coach Peppery. And when I looked at
you and you said that, I went.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Okay, I swapped the office two years ago. All right,
thank you. Yeah, I ain't BA.

Speaker 22 (18:43):
Coach Courson learned a little bit uh from me, and
that'll learn a lot more after I left.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Okay, all right, So to me, how you guys did
last week?

Speaker 21 (18:54):
And you in your jamboree defensively flip pretty good? I
mean I think it was a fifty one to six.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
Zero.

Speaker 21 (19:04):
Well get it straight, didn't get well, I'll take the
final score was fifty one to six. But but our
our our varsity defense. I started defense. Then we didn't
give them anything. So I mean, like I said, we
still have things to clean up. But yeah, we had
six on the board, but it was in the fourth quarter,
so good job. Again, they played good and they played

(19:26):
all yeah you too, you too, Yeah, but no, I
mean we played good. I mean, actually we played good
to be the first game, but we know we got
things to work on. The show them that and and
that's what we went out there did did this week
to get ready for Abbeville.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
You're gonna flip yourself and don't tell we say week
one week too. That's don't you hear a lot of coaches.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
I usually say this.

Speaker 22 (19:45):
I know, I know West takes slow time first to
get used to that.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
You know so well and I know that.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
But like, you didn't play last week, but you did, right,
but improvement, Yeah the first game to the second game,
say it that way.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Yeah, that's anyway.

Speaker 22 (20:00):
When I was, y'all was in week minus one, right,
but you know we started minus one, we started doing
that last year, and it really have to us in
the regular season. Coach the mistakes that generally make that
game one. You get him out of the way last
week and and so yeah, we played okay offensively, scored
fifty one something like that. But it was it was

(20:22):
two groups. It was you know, junior high in the
high school too. But we've got a lot of guys back.
Everything we do, we're gonna it's gonna be based off
of our quarterback, j Mayround Foreman, And he's our quarterback.
He's a he's a star guy. He can he can
throw the ball, run the ball, and and then everything
else is based off what he does. So you know,

(20:43):
we pretty much got everybody back from last year, and
so we're excited about our offense.

Speaker 10 (20:48):
I like that.

Speaker 22 (20:49):
Our biggest thing is just gonna stay gotta we gotta
stay healthy. If we stay healthy, you know we'll be
you know, we'll be we'll be a decent football team
for most of the year. And if we don't stay
when I literally one or two people you know, can
change at the outlook of our programs.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
You know what's unique.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
Because I was on the way out here, I was
thinking about injuries and how I don't want to even
say it, but y'all kind of got hit a few
times harder than some other folks. And I don't even
want to go there, but I know how that can
affect smaller schools when you well.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
It can affect a big school if it's the right player.
But you take one out, you take four players, four positions.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
I've been defense special teams, so forth, you take a
bunch of positions out of the way, and so.

Speaker 23 (21:32):
I was just thinking about that, but I hate it because,
like you know, uh, coach Johnson does a really great
job get the credit that he deserves, and.

Speaker 22 (21:44):
He's been through a whole I say it every year,
but people don't have realized all the stuff he's got
had to go through with COVID and all that y'all had, well,
just everything that he's had to go through in the past.

Speaker 5 (21:55):
Few years, and it really does a great job of
getting the kids.

Speaker 22 (21:57):
Out, keeping them motivated, doing things the right way in
the weight room, in the classroom, on the field, keeping
us coaches doing what we're supposed to do all the time.

Speaker 5 (22:08):
Keeping us focused.

Speaker 22 (22:10):
And he's really he's a much better coach than his record,
a lot better coach than his record, you know, shows
and you know, I just I wish he could be
successful as as a person he is.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
You know, he's a fine Christian man. He is a
phenomenal individual. You were right about that. Doesn't know about it,
you know what, we don't say that enough.

Speaker 22 (22:31):
And I you know, Coach Freeman was talking yesterday to
Alabast Thompson, he's a good friend, and he was talking
on the show about the game they play in and
he said, I'm not We're not chasing wins.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
We want results. Well, you know what all results are.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
If somebody's giving up there all and they play their best,
that's a result, right, It may not be enough to win.
So you got to go deep and think about that.
So just putting that out there to follow up what
you said.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
Real great coach next week, Abbyville.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Have they got pretty much the same personnel they had
last year thirty five?

Speaker 22 (23:01):
There you go, Yeah, look at god Ja, what little
we do know about them? There just a little you know,
a year older. They got a really good quarterback that's
kind of like ours. He could take over the ball game,
and got explosive players on the outside.

Speaker 9 (23:16):
And you know, so we've got to be ready.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
I mean, you go down there, you're going into their
place that's two hours away.

Speaker 22 (23:22):
Last year it was one hundred and forty eight thousand degrees,
and this year maybe it's just fill one hundred thousand
because it was it was brutal last year.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
Coach Course and Ken your linebackers run him down.

Speaker 21 (23:34):
I believe we can. Yeah, we ran him down last year.
I think we're better on the outside this year, so
I think we can go get him.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
All right, guys, y'all are off this week. Thanks for
saying that.

Speaker 6 (23:41):
I do that, but I didn't say it.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Appreciate y'all. Cut it and we'll see y'all next week.
All right for you a Bobcats, take a break. You
know what this we're coming back.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
We've got Southern Prep from the High School Coaching Shows
at Mose Barbecue.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
I appreciate.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Hey, welcome back to the Coaching Show. High School Coaching Show.
We're coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue Barbecue.
I'm sorry.

Speaker 24 (24:00):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
It's brought to you by the one to Pete Cleonty
and Gorye's Furniture Express. And next up is Southern Prep.
We got Coach Reese right, Coach Newman yes, sir, all right,
tell me what what do you coach? Coaches? I'm the
defensive coordinator, defens coordinator off offense, so we got both coordinators.

Speaker 9 (24:15):
Yes, sir, all right.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
We're opening up this week, which is just what's Sparta Academy?
Are y'all traveling Thursday tomorrow?

Speaker 5 (24:21):
Right?

Speaker 16 (24:21):
Yes, sir tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (24:23):
Did they play eight man last year?

Speaker 10 (24:26):
Man?

Speaker 4 (24:27):
Are they just dropping down to play y'all? I mean
we're doing Oh, y'all gonna do let so y'all gonna
I love you buddy, y'all are gonna mix it up?

Speaker 9 (24:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (24:36):
Yes, we're gonna do how many? How many eleven man games?

Speaker 16 (24:38):
This is the only one?

Speaker 4 (24:38):
Only one.

Speaker 16 (24:39):
We tried to at least get one a year.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
Well, you know, you know what you're right, y'all do
that sometimes you get a couple of yes, sir, Okay,
it depends on the schedule.

Speaker 10 (24:46):
You know.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
I was looking at it and had Sparta. I said,
is this Sparta Academy in Evergreen? Theyn't get you some
connected sauces? Oh yeah, yeah, they got the store there
and all that. Uh did did y'all play the last year?

Speaker 16 (24:57):
We haven't played this?

Speaker 9 (24:58):
Ar Okay, what do you know about.

Speaker 25 (25:00):
We got some film on them last week from a
scrimming as they did against Morgan Academy. Uh we usually
last year they ran more of a wing tea. This
year they're kind of do what Chambers does and shotgun
wing tea. They spread it out a little bit more.
They got some athletes in.

Speaker 16 (25:15):
They're gonna run it still, but they do throw the
ball a little bit more they did last year.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
Yeah, what what do you gotta do? Defensive coordinator down
that coach freeze.

Speaker 26 (25:22):
Yeah, so we we watched the film from last year
and uh we had a game plan, and then we
saw the new film and they switched up their offense.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
So we had to put something new in this week.

Speaker 26 (25:36):
We saw that film I think Monday, so I put
in It's still kind of the same basic concept, but
we put in a few new things.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
So what was what was different from the first room?
You saw in the second the next thing.

Speaker 26 (25:51):
So in the first film they were in a they
had seven offensive linemen, a running back, of quarterback, two
wingbacks and only one receiver out wide, and they were
I guess you could say a lot more predictable. They
didn't do a lot of motion and they ran the
ball about every time. The one film we had they

(26:15):
beat Snook.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
And they ran the ball.

Speaker 26 (26:17):
They had three hundred and sixty total yards and they
had three hundred and sixty rushing yards. So but now
they have a couple more athletes that they brought in
and uh, they're a lot more versatile.

Speaker 9 (26:30):
So it's going to be a challenge.

Speaker 10 (26:32):
But we're ready for what we got to.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
Do defense, I mean offensive code.

Speaker 16 (26:36):
I think our athletes match up pretty well what they have.
We got a ninth grade quarterbacks.

Speaker 25 (26:41):
We're trying to bring him in slow and so I'm
trying to run the ball a little bit more, get
him accustomed to his first varsity start. So hopefully run
the ball and if that didn't work, we'll have short passes.
Trying to get our quarterback accimated.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
To the game percentage kind of stuff there to get
used to.

Speaker 10 (26:56):
Yeah, the.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
When you're playing eight man, now, I keep up with it. Yeah,
I've never seen one except on televisions. Something I've never
seen you guys play. I've never seen come over in Well.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
I'd love to.

Speaker 4 (27:10):
I probably will this year. Do you feel like you're
is it balanced? Do you run the ball or do
you or you have a tendency to throw the ball
with your athletes.

Speaker 16 (27:19):
That you have the past two years under the coordinator,
I've I like to throw the ball more.

Speaker 25 (27:24):
We had a veteran quarterback the past couple of years,
so it was easier to throw it more and he
was more accustomed to it. But we had a senior
running back, so I'm depending on him to carry the load.
But we've usually been about fifty five forty five pass
run fast couple of years.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
So yeah, now you had some you had some games
where you had some big scores up in the eighties, right, Yeah, yes,
but she told the team before they got there, we're
going to do it, but you were going to play
your JB defense.

Speaker 9 (27:52):
Yeah, yes, sir.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Okay, did you learn a lot from doing that?

Speaker 16 (27:56):
From the kids who got this year?

Speaker 10 (27:57):
Now?

Speaker 9 (27:59):
Yes, know some of them.

Speaker 16 (28:01):
We have one kid it's coming up. He's gonna be
starting on oat line in D line for us.

Speaker 27 (28:05):
Uh.

Speaker 25 (28:06):
He surprised me from what I saw last year to
wways doing now. I'm pleased with what I've seen from him.
We did a scrimmage against Chambers last week and he
he was fighting double teams off at U D tackles.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
It was good to see.

Speaker 9 (28:20):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
You know one thing we've never I don't think we've
ever discussed this with you. Special teams coach.

Speaker 16 (28:25):
Yeah, Uh, he's at the other radio show the night
he hit with us.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
Well, we get but you've seen them. Yeah, I mean,
how are you on special teams?

Speaker 16 (28:34):
We don't kick the ball. We go for two and
kick onside kick. That's really about it.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Fourth down, get you go for it every time.

Speaker 16 (28:41):
Uh, depends how what the down and distance is.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
But we have like a called sticks.

Speaker 25 (28:45):
It's like our our receiver gets back there and he
can neither punt it or he can throw it if
it mighty's open.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
Okay. So yeah, all right, well, thank you coach, Thank
you for coming. It's good to see you. Coach rees
is this your first time here. It's nice meeting you.
Maybe we'll see you next time. Yes, sir, Hey, this
is Southern Prep. Next up, Valley High School coach Adam Hunter.
You've been listening to the High School Coaches Show.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Bringing you our high school coaching show. As we continue
Bally Rams Adam Hunter is at the microphone. Good morning, good,
good morning. That's about what we do all the time,
went on the morrow, Good afternoon.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Coach, Hey mare, how you doing.

Speaker 12 (29:58):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
It's good to see you.

Speaker 17 (30:00):
We know, it's uh.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
We get to media days and then we get to
the coaching show. That's right, how's everything about it?

Speaker 24 (30:06):
It's good good and you know, I think we had
a good week of practice. The temperatures definitely helped that,
you know. I thought our kids bounced around a little
bit better the last two days because of that. So
you know, we're looking forward to kicking off Friday night
against somebody other than ourselves.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Yeah, that seems to be the thing.

Speaker 5 (30:21):
Battle.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Raum coach Adam Hunter starts his fifth season seven and four,
four and one most important in the region.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Last year, all right, you were the number two seed lost.
How many sooners can I seem.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
To seven seven sas?

Speaker 6 (30:34):
But now they were key?

Speaker 4 (30:35):
They were key were they were?

Speaker 3 (30:37):
All right, let's start on defense. First off, you played Glenn.
We're gonna get to them and just say it quickly.
Give us a summary of your defense and offense.

Speaker 12 (30:42):
What we're looking at.

Speaker 24 (30:43):
You know, defense is gonna be led, you know by
Gavin Goss and Zan Woody in the back end of it.

Speaker 14 (30:50):
They play safety.

Speaker 24 (30:51):
You know, their their starters since ninth grade. You know,
two tremendous players for us. They're gonna gonna kind of
be the leaders there. Then you got the anchor right
there at Antoine Greenwood at defensive end.

Speaker 4 (31:03):
He's a senior.

Speaker 24 (31:04):
We got another senior at and Jalen Roberts that knows.
And then we got some young guys that haven't played
a lot. But you know d done at corner.

Speaker 14 (31:13):
He has played exceptionally well this this fall camp.

Speaker 28 (31:16):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (31:17):
He's a senior that just hasn't got a.

Speaker 24 (31:19):
Lot of reps because of the guys that were in
front of him the past couple of years. But we're
looking for big things out of him. So you know,
those guys are gonna be the guys we look on to,
you know, anchor in that defense and really get them going.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
All right, let's flip over offensive side.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
Uh.

Speaker 24 (31:34):
You know, Gavin Goss is gonna take the reins at quarterback.
He's you know, a leader, he's an athlete.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
We're gonna lean on him.

Speaker 14 (31:42):
And you got Tylan carrollar just starting running back from
last year. He's back as a senior. Rushed for twelve
o yards. Yeah, uh so we're excited about that.

Speaker 24 (31:50):
And then our offensive line, you know, we really feel
like we finally got into some veteran guys on the
offensive line front. They're doing a really good job, working hard.
You know that they're anchored by you got tyree On
Lynch as a senior. You got Gabe Gilbert as a senior. Uh,
ke on Te Lynch is a senior, and then Jackson

(32:11):
Miller he's he's a sophomore, but he played.

Speaker 14 (32:14):
Every snap as a ninth grader last year.

Speaker 24 (32:16):
So you know, we've really got some depth, or I
should say, we got some guys that's played a lot.

Speaker 14 (32:21):
Of football up front right now.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
So that's a good thing. So you got that many
back on the offensive line. Yes, we only lost.

Speaker 24 (32:29):
Jacks Biller is gonna be our starting center now we
do some things where we can move him to tackle
some you know, going into it, we're gonna kind of
see what our you know, best uh fit for that is.

Speaker 9 (32:40):
Uh, but we're looking forward to.

Speaker 24 (32:41):
You know, he's an exceptional kid. He can go from
he can play any he can play center, guard or tackle.
So uh, we got to find that right combination and
may come out Friday and once you find that.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
Who played for you last year? Jack Snuller. Okay, so
he has experience?

Speaker 14 (32:54):
Yes, oh yeah, yeah, he played every game.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
We know the skill guy, Yes, we know them. Have
y'all talked about that because I just show up, you're out.
You feel good about the guys that you got, well,
I know you feel good about it, but I mean
it's hard to replace some of that.

Speaker 24 (33:08):
I mean, yeah, you know what this team's got to
understanding and they understand this. We're not the team from
last year. We're not gonna be that team. But this
team can make this team their own team, if that
makes sense. You know, they got to make their own identity.
They can't do things in the past. We've got to
do things a little differently and uh, we gotta we
gotta grind it out and we got to be there
in the fourth corner, have a chance to win it.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Yeah, a s A.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Glenwood played for the Phenomenon program and as Jeff said,
a narvel game for them.

Speaker 24 (33:38):
That's right, you know, you know coach Nelson does a
great job there. You know, it's this is not a
This is not a public school playing a private school.
You know they play with public school ball every year.
That the the quality players they put on the field
is really good. You know, we've got to be ready.
He's had some guys movie and it's gonna help him
a lot. And you know it's gonna be a full

(33:59):
core a game. We gotta go in there and we
got to know that. We just got to be there
in the fourth corner, have a chance to win it.
I think it's gonna be a great match up. I
think they're gonna be really good. Uh and and hopefully
we can we can do some things that we think,
you know, we might be a little.

Speaker 11 (34:14):
Bit better at.

Speaker 14 (34:15):
But you know we got to work cut out for So.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
They're atta be a good team, y'all own the Chattahoochie,
just like they are coached. That's right. They just in
a little bit different area of the Chadohoochie. But the
would they're they're they're one of the they're one of
the elite AI that's right, one of two. That's right.
Last year, yep, and they made the they made the switch.

Speaker 24 (34:31):
Yeah, and you know they're they're a traditional program. They
win a lot of ball games every year, so you
know they know how to win. Steve, we gotta we
gotta play.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Mean and up chat.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
I didn't even pay attention to right at the end
of the table, be calling the games for the Rams
for another year, Steve, I didn't even see you there, buddy.

Speaker 5 (34:47):
Well, I'm glad I was able to get any on
the here.

Speaker 10 (34:48):
Coach.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Well, I'm glad you hear you. You asked fire away coach.

Speaker 5 (34:52):
Coach.

Speaker 29 (34:53):
I don't even have questions. I'm just I'm just looking
for coach that two months ago. I thought, yep, need
to get a coach hunt pretty quickly. And then all
of a sudden, it's two days before game time and I'm.

Speaker 9 (35:03):
Like, we probably need to get together.

Speaker 5 (35:05):
That's right.

Speaker 29 (35:05):
It snakes up quick, it does. But looking forward to
it again. You know, we talked about offensive line. You
guys mentioned that already. I believe that is going to
be the key to their success this year. Valley gets
out and does as well as I think they can
on a offensive line, they're going to be fine.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Yeah, you Steve, you will have that call Friday night.

Speaker 29 (35:23):
It started about seven thirty Eastern time. There you go,
and hopefully we'll be riding back up You talked about
up the Chathoos, and we'll come back up the CHAHOOSI
you with a win.

Speaker 5 (35:31):
There you go?

Speaker 4 (35:32):
All right, now, I believe you can do it.

Speaker 5 (35:33):
Coach.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
I want to ask about the special teams because that
seems to always we know how that can come to play.

Speaker 9 (35:37):
That's right.

Speaker 14 (35:38):
We got a kick her back from last year.

Speaker 17 (35:40):
Sander Newton.

Speaker 14 (35:40):
He's you know, got a lot of kicks on his belt.
Now last year was his first year playing.

Speaker 24 (35:45):
We feel more comfortable with him you know, we feel
like we can take some chances and kick some field
goals if we're you know, in the red zone and
and don't punch it in.

Speaker 14 (35:52):
So we're excited about that. We should be good there.
You know, you never know to you kick this thing off.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
That's right, all right, coach. Always good to see you.
Good luck on to you. I know that you got
ten playing one at a time. It's always good to
have a win.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Though, So good luck.

Speaker 9 (36:06):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
Fellas, go run, we got it.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Go Rams.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Their games are on one hundred point nine in the
Bull our sociter station. You can hear Steve and Bruce
with a call every Friday night.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
Who's next? Jeff up on that board. We're gonna take
a break the pan Thursday when we come back at
Moe's Barbecue. High School Coaches Show continues Welcome back to
Mole's Barbecue.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
High School Coaches Show continues on The Kicker and Fox
Sports nine, ten, thirteen, ten.

Speaker 9 (36:29):
In the Game.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Dean, Marky, Jeff and Jason all live here at Moe's
Barbecue every Wednesday night six to ten, I mean six
to eight, God would be long, six to ten. As
we roll along with our coach, we appreciate moles and
I mean eat Mose and the orth Pede.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Clinic and Goree's Furniture Express.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
Smith's Station is up next. We got John Wiley, who
is the offensive coordinator. Was coach, good to see you tonight.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Nice to see you, yes, sir. How's everything in Smith Station?

Speaker 9 (36:57):
It's going great.

Speaker 28 (36:58):
We had a good off season and a lot of
kids put a lot of hard work in and we're
just looking forward to.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
See some of the results.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Thursday night game, right, Thursday night game? All right, sew
out of Georgia.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
Now, look, we don't know much about teams right here,
but Shaw used to be one of the best teams around.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
They got a good program. Talk to us a little
bit about not necessarily Sean, but your team before we
talk about Shaw.

Speaker 28 (37:19):
Well, we're still relatively young. You're going to see a
lot of new faces on our out there for us
this year. We're trying to build off some of the
successes that we had in the off season. Like I said,
we put our kids to a very I want to say, extensive,
hardworking program. Coach Garrison does a good job with the
off season with the conditioning and the lifting and trying

(37:41):
to get bigger, faster, stronger. Again, we're really young, so
hopefully that doesn't bite us in the butt because you know,
as kids are young, they're going to make mistakes. But
we want to make sure we limit those those mistakes.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
All right, Smith Station Football?

Speaker 3 (37:55):
Now, coach, when you say young, are you mean like
they're ninth and tenth graders?

Speaker 6 (37:59):
Like I mean ninth and tenth grader?

Speaker 2 (38:02):
You don't have many juniors and seniors playing?

Speaker 5 (38:04):
Or no, sir, we don't.

Speaker 28 (38:06):
We're relative. You're gonna see a lot of freshmans. You're
gonna see a lot of sophomore sing force this year.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Interesting, how mean you got out with numbers?

Speaker 5 (38:14):
We got over one hundred kids in the program.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
But you've seen your class as smaller junior class.

Speaker 28 (38:19):
Senior class, it's extremely small. Say we only have eight seniors,
that's seven eight you're looking at you know somewhere in
the upper thirties and on into the forties. You know
most of these if hopefully I can take a phrase
from from Prime Time in two years to say we're coming,

(38:42):
but right now, uh, we're not coming. We're still young,
and we're gonna We're gonna just try to approach each
game and try to get better at each game.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
You don't want no coach. I've seen some youngsters. Coach
Freeman at Thompson is not afraid to play eighth grader
in a state championship game. I mean, you know he
saw that.

Speaker 30 (39:01):
Central You saw that, But that eighth grade also had
some other people, right, he was surrounded by eighth grade.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
Peter Wood and all those other guys. I probably had
one of the Fagans on well, two of the Fagans
on one side of the ball. Yeah, you're right, I
don't I didn't mean like that, But I mean, have
you got one of those guys?

Speaker 26 (39:23):
Have you?

Speaker 4 (39:23):
Have you got some of them guys that have surprised you?

Speaker 28 (39:26):
Truthfully, I think we got a lot of special guys
that ninth and tenth grade class. If they stay together
and they continue to keep building and and play together
and play for each other, I can see us doing
a lot of a lot of really good, great things
in the next year or two. And you guys will
see that you're here bottom this year, and they're gonna

(39:47):
they're gonna make some some place that's gonna be unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (39:51):
Now on both ways positive.

Speaker 28 (39:53):
And negative, because because they're young and so we got
to be patient with them, and we got to bring
them along and support them. But I think they're gonna
we gotta We're gonna have a special team.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
You can build that fence too, Coach, so they can't
get get out because you're in a you're in a
you're in that gray area. So like the Permuta triangle.

Speaker 28 (40:09):
You know, well, one good thing about our program, and
if I could use the term of like joy and
hope and what what what we're going to be doing.
We got a new superintendent, We've got a new principal.
They just talked about in the board meaning about putting
money into Smith Station. So we're talking about getting indoor facilities,
we're talking about all those things.

Speaker 5 (40:29):
So all that buzz is there.

Speaker 28 (40:32):
So we got a lot of good things that I
see on a on a horizon by our school. The
atmosphere is different. We're looking forward to our pet rally tomorrow.
So there's a lot of great things that are happening there.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Tell us a bit about Shawn Coach where we wrap
it up here.

Speaker 28 (40:46):
Shaw has a lot of speed as as as you
stated in the past, they've they've they've got tradition on
their side that they're gonna come to play. You gotta
think it's the battle of the borders, so they don't
want to lose to Alaba. I'm a school, so it's
gonna be I think they're gonna bring a huge crowd,
So it's gonna be a lecture atmosphere and hopefully we

(41:09):
can respond.

Speaker 5 (41:10):
But I anticipate them.

Speaker 9 (41:11):
They're gonna come.

Speaker 5 (41:12):
And give us the best.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
Coach Wiley, good to see you. That's Sir John Wally,
longtime athlete, coach. Good to say coach, Just Sir John
Waly Smith Station Panthers.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
We're live at Moles Barbecue.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
I believe we got a little faet bulldogs when we
come back at Moles. On the Kicker and Fox Sports,
Welcome Back, Welcome back to Moe's Barbecue. High School Coaches
Show on ninety seven point seven Kicker FM Sports nine
ten thirteen ten in the Game.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
We're here every Wednesday night, six to eight. Moving forward.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
First night, Jason Lee handles our engineering, Jeff Sasser d
Mart Mitchell here. We appreciate Gory's Furniture Express for being
one of our presenting sponsors making show possible, and the
Orthopedic Clinic as well because We could not possibly do
it without those two folks and Moe's Barbecue where we eat.
They have a great menu, you open seven days a week.
They have kids, me and you. They have it all
and we encourage you to come to Mo's Barbecue.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
We were talking about what we have.

Speaker 3 (42:07):
We're gonna talk Lynette football, because tell me what we had, guys,
what we have to eat?

Speaker 10 (42:11):
Wings?

Speaker 2 (42:12):
Wings, So there it is going to get them up
a little bit, Jason, just because of this nooid wing
wings that seems to be.

Speaker 4 (42:19):
Catfish bikes. Next week, sit in catfish bikes next week.
I had them tony catfish bikes.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
Okay, I thought you mean like they bite the confused coach?

Speaker 11 (42:29):
Wrong?

Speaker 4 (42:30):
Wrong, Then they queued up and bikes.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
Yeah, fair enough, real good, fair enough, all right, coach McDonald.
First year as a head coach, and you got it.
Let Lynette, I can I told you on the Mark
and personally congrats. I'll tell you on the Coaches Show,
yes sir, yeah, all right. So first off, what's it
like to be the head coach?

Speaker 9 (42:50):
Very stressful? Always something is you know. I feel like
I tell people all the time, I'm not a head coach.
I'm a fireman.

Speaker 4 (42:57):
All I do is put out Pull that up a
little bit there, you I just.

Speaker 9 (43:01):
Put out fires all day long.

Speaker 10 (43:02):
So that's that's just my job.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
Well, speaking of putting out fires, tell me about your
team and what kind of fire you got to put out.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Let's talk about your defense.

Speaker 9 (43:12):
Yeah, yeah, that's what I like to do.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
First started on defense.

Speaker 9 (43:14):
Yeah, so coach kit just does I forget it's heavy
in the defense.

Speaker 31 (43:18):
You know.

Speaker 9 (43:19):
I feel like that's gonna be probably our strongest suit
this year. We got a lot back.

Speaker 32 (43:24):
Ten guys were turning that either started or played meaningful
meaningful stats last year and they're.

Speaker 9 (43:30):
All a year older.

Speaker 32 (43:32):
Only got four singers, so that's always a good thing
and uh, but also could be negative because you got to.

Speaker 9 (43:38):
Play a lot of younger guys.

Speaker 32 (43:39):
But hey, like I tell everybody all the time, now
we're not talking about them being freshman or eighth graders
or sophomores anymore.

Speaker 9 (43:44):
Now they're juniors and seniors and sophomores that have played
a year. So that's something we're looking forward to. I
let coach also.

Speaker 33 (43:51):
Hit on the Atthew wants like you said, the main
thing everybody like you said they played last year, they
it's just a year older, very junior heavy. I think
we got one senior on the defense, one or two too,
oh yeah, Chris King being one of them and h.

Speaker 10 (44:06):
Whitfield being the other one.

Speaker 4 (44:08):
So just a year older.

Speaker 33 (44:09):
So expected just defense, be the staple hopefully of the team,
be the anchor and hold a hanger hat on. And
we've switched things up so that flying to the ball,
I love it.

Speaker 10 (44:19):
So just getting better.

Speaker 4 (44:20):
We were talking about your offensive line last week. We
talked about pretty big some of those guys on the defensive. Yes, sir, okay, yes, sir.
To d to seventy five across the line.

Speaker 9 (44:32):
Is pretty big when we're at our peak there.

Speaker 4 (44:34):
Yeah, yeah, that's two seventy five at a two as correct.

Speaker 32 (44:38):
Right, And uh, you know, like defensively, I would say
we're probably a little bit bigger just due to the
fact that our defensively ends. They played strictly defense and
so we're not really subbing them on offense. I mean
we do, but not enough to make a difference, to
be honest with you. But you know, like Jeremi mcgilberry's
six foot three probably to forty two thirty five and
you know, as a pretty good dimension to us there there,

(45:01):
and then we really just internally rotate the d tackles.

Speaker 9 (45:04):
So, I mean that's just the defense there.

Speaker 4 (45:06):
What year is this with you at Lynette? That is
the headcut?

Speaker 9 (45:09):
I know this is your This has been my third
Have you seen any.

Speaker 4 (45:12):
I can remember years coach where Team Steeds is incredible?
How how do you how do you rate your change
feed with what some of the.

Speaker 9 (45:20):
Team My first year there, we were really fast. We
just weren't big. We were just very small.

Speaker 32 (45:26):
We had a lot of all these guys that are
older linemen were eighth graders and yeah, but you know,
team speed wise, I'd.

Speaker 9 (45:33):
Say we're we're pretty pretty good. I mean as far
as they're specially on defense. We fly to the ball.

Speaker 32 (45:38):
I mean we got a linebacker that I think is
top tier legit. I don't just say that often, I
really do. I mean that, you know, when the lights
come on on Friday, he might not practice all the
time like it just due to the fact of who
he is. You know, second team Mall State. You know
he's getting a little bit of looks, you know. But
now there's Morgan, Uh, you know, he's he.

Speaker 9 (45:59):
Is elak.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
Sorry what about the tall You've had some tall receivers
in the past too, how uh split out you.

Speaker 9 (46:07):
Know normal height?

Speaker 4 (46:08):
Yeah, there's no more.

Speaker 9 (46:12):
I say, we're probably the talents would be Stateles three is.

Speaker 4 (46:17):
The two brothers that played basketball. They played football a
few years ago when they were they played till you
talk about boozer. They played two out of the four.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
Yeah, okay, they played their ninth and eleventh.

Speaker 10 (46:27):
Okay, yeah, basketball?

Speaker 28 (46:31):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (46:31):
Bull look County Friday night talking about bullet can.

Speaker 32 (46:34):
So I'll hit on it for the the office offensive
perspective and let coach on the defense offensively for us.
You know, they had a spring deal down at Troy,
so you know, I don't know how much of that.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
Did you ever watch it?

Speaker 9 (46:46):
No, they didn't play last week because they did the
spring deal.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
Oh, they had a spring out.

Speaker 9 (46:53):
They did that thing at Troy.

Speaker 2 (46:55):
Got a little round over my head, coach, I'm I'm idiot.

Speaker 9 (46:57):
Yeah, but it wait.

Speaker 32 (47:00):
They they got a pretty big line. You know, they
got a couple of really good guys. I got a
kid that's got an album Stayed offer. You know, he's
a really athletic at linebacker and fairly not not big
in the back defensive backfield, but they're they're very very fast.
I think they were pretty good at track wise last
year and four as. So you know, we don't propose
a lot of good challenges for especially up front because

(47:20):
they're pretty big. They not just side from size, to
be honest with you, and uh three fifteen those guard
I think he's going to Troy maybe or got an
offer from Troy.

Speaker 9 (47:29):
So yeah, they they posed a couple of challenges.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
Therefore, me and him look at each other.

Speaker 9 (47:34):
That the coach Jeremy Vine.

Speaker 4 (47:39):
Okay, he's coached Jeff. There's a bunch of I know.

Speaker 6 (47:41):
He was actually.

Speaker 4 (47:44):
The same family tree we got.

Speaker 9 (47:45):
We got coaches that are from there. Yeah, I led
coach on.

Speaker 6 (47:48):
The same group.

Speaker 33 (47:50):
Like I said, Lineman, a lot of the guys, like
all guys play both ways and whatnot.

Speaker 9 (47:52):
We're expecting them to come out of this.

Speaker 4 (47:54):
But you don't ever know.

Speaker 33 (47:55):
I know a new coach they hired a couple of
weeks ago. I don't know what his You don't ever
know the plans. So, like I told him earlier, will
just as we go play and we left.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
Forward home game Morgan Washington Stadium, Sea Coach, good luck
to thank you guys, all right, The Coaches show continues.
We'll have the fette next, and we are back rolling
right along. Jason Lee manning the crow. Sammy Smith in
the house. Always good to see Sammy Smith. Sammy helped

(48:25):
us years on the broadcast. Over there, Super seven volunteer,
Volunteer of the Year. Sammy Smith right there calling them out.
Jeff at Moe's Barbecue. We're rolling right along a lot
of coaches at the Moe's.

Speaker 5 (48:35):
Man.

Speaker 2 (48:36):
It's a great night.

Speaker 3 (48:36):
It's a beautiful night. Appreciate everybody being here. I see coaches, wives, coaches, kids,
I see families. I got it's in the air.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
It's in the air. We're rolling right along. Juan Williams.
He's the head coach of the La Fete Bulldogs and more.
He's a favorite of mine.

Speaker 3 (48:51):
UH quality individual, class act, doesn't blame anything but itself
if they lose, and gives credits to the kid when
they win. And he is the winner of the making
a difference ward with HSA and I happened to think
a lot of him.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
One Williams. Good to see you, coach.

Speaker 20 (49:06):
Good to see y'all.

Speaker 2 (49:07):
Man, goodness, good to have you at the coaches showed
you a good company yeah, war Oh here we go.

Speaker 7 (49:13):
Hear that.

Speaker 14 (49:14):
I know somebody else got that, you know, Yeah I
heard about that too.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
Yeah, man, I will mold ride along. But congrats on
the award to coach. You nobody's award right.

Speaker 3 (49:23):
Oh yes, sir, big time, big time, big time. All right,
talk tell us about your sister coach before we rolled along.

Speaker 2 (49:30):
I got him now.

Speaker 9 (49:33):
Been a great addition. Coach Travis Carswell comes in.

Speaker 4 (49:36):
That's go ahead.

Speaker 2 (49:37):
I called the other one cars Well a wall togo.
There you go go ahead.

Speaker 5 (49:41):
Uh.

Speaker 34 (49:41):
Coach Carswell has been a greater distion of what we're
trying to do at le Feed right now. It's came
right in, hit the ground running some good things. The
Good Lord made it happen, made it happen quick. So
he's been able to bring in his offense early during
the spring, and our kids have really adapted to what
we're doing. Uh, we're expecting great things at our offense

(50:02):
this year. He continues to work hard day in and
day out.

Speaker 9 (50:09):
Had to be.

Speaker 34 (50:10):
He didn't want to be pulled away today from it, so,
you know, trying to get it right. I am so
proud of the staff we have right now. And the
work is being done is meat as we sit here,
work is being done back at the at the house.

Speaker 7 (50:27):
Some of them.

Speaker 34 (50:28):
Yes, sir, we have Craig ag He's our strength and
conditioning coach. He's our wide receivers and our dB coach.

Speaker 2 (50:38):
I know you start naming him.

Speaker 34 (50:39):
Okay, then if we got Coach Butler, Coach Butler is
gonna be our d line coach. We also have Coach Turner,
Coach Turns our offensive line coach. We have Coach toes
Is our running backs coach.

Speaker 4 (50:54):
Uh Coach Lewis works.

Speaker 9 (50:55):
With our JV. So we have a lot of great
guys in there.

Speaker 34 (51:00):
And Coach Michael Ross helps with our technicians and everything.

Speaker 9 (51:04):
So everything that we're doing now is.

Speaker 34 (51:07):
It's good at LA FED and we're we're just wanting
to get it, get ready to get started. I think
a lot of kids have been beating up on each other.
But I'm gonna let coach speak on a little bit
of offense. You know, I've we've I've changed over from
the offense and went to the defense. Okay, yeah, and
I love offense, but I trust this man who is
next to me really a lot and gave him the

(51:29):
range to handle it.

Speaker 9 (51:30):
I don't get in his way.

Speaker 34 (51:32):
I be the head coach and I let him run it.
So uh and I like say, I just I didn't
trust him that I knew him before we got here
to this point.

Speaker 20 (51:40):
So just ready to see what's ready for.

Speaker 2 (51:43):
What's ready for the Friday coach, he's high, highly on
you now points up.

Speaker 5 (51:51):
Put a lot of pressure on me early.

Speaker 35 (51:54):
I was just thankful the coach Williams and the Little
Fette High School gave me the opportunity to come back
and to high school football because previously I was coaching
college ball and we had some setbacks, had my coach
on line coach passed at Tuskegee, so uh, you know,
that kind of put me back kind of in a
depressed mode, to be honest, and then Lafette had tough

(52:16):
loss of coach Thornton, so it was kind of we
kind of came back together. It kind of it's crazy
how we this circle of life happens for us. And
coach came to me and we talked, and you know,
I said, coached this that's where I need to be at.
You know, I had other places that I could have
took an offer to, but I told coach I said,

(52:36):
I want to be at Lafette. I want to come
there and coach these kids that you know, area other
place got resources and things. I want to come there
where you know, you're off the road there, off the interstate.
You know, people overlook you at times because you're in
a rural area. So I said, hey, that's where I
need to be, you know, somewhere I can mold and
develop kids.

Speaker 5 (52:56):
And we've preached.

Speaker 35 (52:57):
The mantra of changing the mindset, you know, and we
started at this spring, you know, with me coming in
uh coaching track and getting to know the kids, and
then started springball in May and got an opportunity to
scrimmage against Selma and within about two weeks we were
able to see the product that we had started to
build when we streamaged Selma back in May, and the

(53:20):
kids were excited, Coach was excited. We've changed a lot there,
and the kids have actually started to buying in into
the things that we're bringing forth. And it's all through
the vision of coach. I mean, you know, he's always
harping on that, you know, being humble and you know,
just changing the mindset, and the kids have definitely bought
into it.

Speaker 4 (53:41):
When you come into a program like you did. Coach
in the spring. You don't know anybody there, but you
don't know the player there. You know, even you know,
you couldn't tell him who the quarterback for was rost year.
Probably you have to fill a man on that coach
or learn it heard with coach.

Speaker 35 (53:55):
He lets us line he's not gonna let you figure
it out, buddy, that's his famous I'm gonna let you
figure out. But no, he mean the wholeheartedly that he
allowed us to build relationship with the kids. And that's
why I was so eager to get started as soon
as I did, you know, coming in. Fortunately, in that circumstance,
the kids were hurt. You know, they lost their father figure,

(54:17):
they lost the mentor, they lost the coach. The school
at self, Lafel High School lost a great guy and
coach Thornton. I'd be remiss not to mention him. We
dedicate our season to his nickname was Chopped and and
this is just let you know how the coaching world goes.
Coach Thornton graduated from Miles College. My first OC job

(54:38):
was at Miles College when we wanted best see championship.
So we had knew each other in passing and you know,
just talking with him, He's like, man, you you were
the guy my old alma mater. I said, yeah, so we.

Speaker 5 (54:50):
Knew each other just through that relationship.

Speaker 4 (54:52):
So your quarterback at now.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
I was just thinking that he's too young to.

Speaker 5 (54:58):
David Thomas.

Speaker 20 (55:00):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
One of our great we love David Toms recruited. Okay,
almost thought David was too young.

Speaker 4 (55:06):
When he said Miles and he said they wanted, I
was like, that's awesome.

Speaker 5 (55:10):
I come.

Speaker 9 (55:10):
I just to coach you at North Olabama.

Speaker 5 (55:11):
So I had JaMarcus Snipes as well.

Speaker 2 (55:13):
Right, Oh yeah, Jasper and Night we love.

Speaker 4 (55:16):
How did y'all not get kay off?

Speaker 11 (55:18):
All of them?

Speaker 2 (55:19):
All of them look Jasper and Jeff and are clothes.
I knew when when he rever.

Speaker 4 (55:25):
You probably knew Daryl Smith. I knew he and I
graduated together.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
Okay, you knew his brothers too, John, I mean, well
not John, that's the wrong one. But anyway, small world.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
Yeah, and we're back at most Barbecue. Sorry about that
delay there. We always have a few issues.

Speaker 2 (55:40):
No, I'm just kidding. We never have issues. But it's
the first night. We had a little bump in the road.

Speaker 3 (55:43):
Now we're back on the road and we're at Mose
Barbecue for the high school coach.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
He showed ninety seven point seven.

Speaker 3 (55:48):
Thank you Kicker FM, Fox Sports The Game nineteen thirty
ten and we appreciate the word Peitty Clinic, Mos Barbecue
and gor Ree's Furnish Express for making this show possible.
Jason Jeff d Mark Dylan Griggs is the head coach
at Russell County.

Speaker 2 (56:02):
Good afternoon, Coach Greeks.

Speaker 11 (56:03):
Good afternoon, guys.

Speaker 5 (56:04):
Glad to be here.

Speaker 2 (56:05):
It's good to see you, and thanks for pausing while
we were had a.

Speaker 17 (56:09):
Little technically, Oh no, just time spent with legends there you.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
Go here, Yeah, hear what's going on and see a
lot about.

Speaker 36 (56:15):
You know, it's been a great it's been a great
off season. It's you know, the kids have really been
working hard.

Speaker 6 (56:20):
You know.

Speaker 17 (56:20):
I I was talking to somebody the other day. You know,
you're out there and you're.

Speaker 36 (56:24):
Watching practice and individual drills, and you know the thing
I love that I'm starting to see the kids running
off the field till they get to the water, and
then they get the water and then they'll run back.

Speaker 17 (56:33):
You know, you're not asking them to quit walking, you know,
just a little bitty things.

Speaker 36 (56:38):
Expectations really starting to creep in, and you know it's
it's see them want to exceed the expectations.

Speaker 17 (56:46):
So it's just been a it's been a great off season.

Speaker 11 (56:47):
All right.

Speaker 3 (56:48):
Speaking of off season, you've got Carol of ozar to war.
So before we talk about Carroll, go to your defense
and offense.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
Tell us about your team.

Speaker 36 (56:56):
So, you know, we return a lot on both sides
the ball. On our defensive side, we returned the entire
defensive line. Isaiah Thomas, la Montes Pollard and Cam Reese,
you know, are just really really good ball players, played
with a high motor. And then we got Eldrick Page
and Mark Robinson at middle linebacker. You know, in that

(57:17):
whole box, you know, I mean, you're talking about two
three year starters right there.

Speaker 17 (57:21):
Outside linebacker.

Speaker 36 (57:22):
You got jose Page and Amari Williams and Cameron Band
out there, good high school players out at dB.

Speaker 17 (57:30):
You got Garrick Lucas, Joseth Todd Davis.

Speaker 36 (57:37):
At safety, really really good players, explosive players. And then
the offensive side of the ball, you know, return our
thousand yard receiver Denver Harper, return our quarterback who threw
for a little over two thousand yards.

Speaker 6 (57:47):
In eight games.

Speaker 36 (57:49):
You get your running back who you know ran for
I think seven hundred yards last year, and you got
a Jamari Burnett who has a sophomore, had a little
over five hundred yards receiving. And then on the offensive
line you got three year starter and Tristan Taylor at center.
You got a two year starter at Nick Dale at
left tackle. You got another two year starter at a
and Jacob Moulder at left guard. And you know then

(58:10):
we got two new guys, Dj Hornet right tackle and
uh Chad at right guard. Now we do have a
z His name is Quintin Lewis. He's gonna be a
sophomore this year, and I will tell you I think
he's gonna be the next big thing. I mean, you know,
we were at some seven on sevens this summer and
you know, like at the Auburn, all of sudden I

(58:31):
see them behind him and he made some big plays.

Speaker 17 (58:32):
And now this kid has a sophomore.

Speaker 36 (58:34):
He's like six foot four right now, you know, and
just we'll go take the ball out of the air
and you're like yeah, so you know, you know, the
receiving corps is as good as any I've ever had anywhere.

Speaker 17 (58:44):
You know, quarterback is as good as I've had.

Speaker 10 (58:46):
I feel really good.

Speaker 4 (58:46):
So you had the six four guy as a slot receiver.

Speaker 17 (58:48):
No, no, he's at outside or now now now I
will bring him in at tight end.

Speaker 4 (58:53):
Okay, I will do that.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
Wait did you say it? He's he's got to be
because he's a tenth grader and he's got to be.

Speaker 6 (58:59):
Two ton Wow.

Speaker 2 (59:00):
Okay, I mean he's.

Speaker 17 (59:02):
I mean he's he is. When you see him, you're like,
oh my god, you reckonize him. You're total thirty thirty.

Speaker 2 (59:09):
That's a big that's a big number.

Speaker 17 (59:11):
Yeah, ninety five players total, and you mentioned a lot.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
You mentioned some players that's got some years.

Speaker 12 (59:15):
I was going through your you.

Speaker 37 (59:17):
Know we did you go Yeah that was okay? Yeah,
I meant defense. Yeah yeah, Now are you are you?
Are you pretty balanced? Or are you run or pass heavy?
So you know you got a two thousand yard rusher
and you got one. I we don't have a two
thousand yard rush pass. If if I did, boy, I'd

(59:37):
be sitting here with the ring on my hand right now.
I'd be really happy.

Speaker 36 (59:39):
No, you know, we are about you know, we broke
us down at the end of last year, and we
were right at like fifty three percent pass forty seven
percent run. Now, last year we were a little bit
more run heavy than normal, just because you know, Bryson
and our receiving corps is a little exceptional.

Speaker 6 (59:54):
You know.

Speaker 36 (59:54):
I'm I'm like Jamie, I'm a run first guy. Ain't nothing,
but can you just run downhill? And it's he's hit
somebody in the throat. But you know, I think a
good coach or you know, a coach who wants to
put his players in the right position, he adapts according
to the players that he has instead of trying to
make them adapt to him. And so you know, like
last year, I've never this kind of guy, but we
had a team who could run all verds, so I

(01:00:16):
had to get out of them all the way, you know,
And I think, you know, last year was the whole
point of we went really young to try to get
ready for this year, you know. And I made a
promise to this in your class on the day, I said,
I said, I'm not as long as you are in
these allways, we're here, you know, And so it's just
a really special group. You know, I could I could
sit here and tell you a million stories about each
one of these singers and just you know, just grateful

(01:00:36):
to have them. And then just you know, looking, you know,
we just approved a ten million dollar buildings, so you know,
even the future is just really right.

Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
Yeah, I'm looking at your reading reading coach. I mean,
it's just a cake walk.

Speaker 17 (01:00:45):
I mean, you got across some.

Speaker 4 (01:00:48):
With Russell County, Stan Hopel morning we talk. I mean
that's just a that's a walking.

Speaker 36 (01:00:52):
Apart the crazy, the the awesome thing about the schedule
is so we got we got Carol and you know,
me and Malone both kind of went through our coordinator things,
not like you know, like we greatly knew each other,
but we kept kind of brushing past. But you know,
you follow, I was at Troy Wicharrell and I was
part and you know, you go to with Tumka and
Bear was on the Timp Bears, the one who actually
got me into coaching. So back to back weeks, I

(01:01:13):
get to play guys who were just really influential in
my younger years. And then you get even over to
Pike Road with with Jonathan Chandler and you throw another
Troy guy in there, like yep.

Speaker 17 (01:01:24):
And then Beauregard, you.

Speaker 36 (01:01:26):
Know, coach at coach Jones, coaches, you know, the schools
just got a lot of You know.

Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
That coach Wlong was the OC at Andalusia.

Speaker 36 (01:01:35):
He was the OC at Andalusa, but before that he
was at Prattwell High School when I was at Central,
and I think the year I went to Penson is
the year that he also went to Andalusia. But he's
a great offensive mine and he's had some good you know,
and my OC went to college with their OC and
they played ball together.

Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
So it should be a good first game, Carol, Like
we talked about, that is interesting. You host host the
first two games, in fact at home.

Speaker 17 (01:02:00):
If you actually look, we're two home, two away, two home.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Oh yeah, so away one home one About that pretty balance.
Can't get no better than that? All right, anything else
you want to bring up? Young guys, got a good number,
good group.

Speaker 36 (01:02:15):
You know, I'm really excited about quitting the sophomore. We
got an upcoming ninth grade running back.

Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
I kind of meant you, That's what I meant.

Speaker 36 (01:02:22):
And his name is Chris Lucas. And I'll tell you
now that kid may be the next Isaiah Thomas. I'm
telling you right now, y'all will know his name in
the next two years. Like he is unbelievable. We're gonna
play him on Friday nights. I'm really excited about Dante
De's he upcoming receiver. He's a night on the uh
the defensive ball, defensive side of the ball. Jose Page,

(01:02:44):
He's gonna be a sophomore this year. He's just really
jumped out, you know. And then Garrick Lucas, who's an
upcoming junior, he's Chris's brother, has just really jumped up.
Toddy Davis. You know, I'm expecting big things out of him.
But you know, we're still really young in a lot
of places. I mean, you know, we might have thirty seniors,
but probably out of that thirty, you know, we probably
got maybe maybe nine starting, and so you know, we're

(01:03:10):
still you know, the future is really bright. And you know,
the one thing I like about this senior class is
they're just so selfless. And you know, it's just about
Russell County. You know, when I first got there, I
just want to play football and it had nothing to
do with Russell County. You know, now it actually kind
of is starting to mean somebody, you know that school
pride and just kind of seeing it for him and
Miss Keene, our principal, just does a great job in
the hallways. And you know, she went and I don't
know if the kids know yet, I probably shouldn't say it,

(01:03:31):
but she went and bought like all the kids foam fingers.

Speaker 6 (01:03:33):
For our ali you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
You know, so it's better way, coach, that's a great environment.

Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Well, I'm glad, I'm glad, and I'm glad you and
your wife have date night on we Oh yeah, they
had to be a part of it.

Speaker 17 (01:03:43):
Oh yeah, it's all because of y'all, y'all, because of y'all.

Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
See you and thank you, y'all coming good? Look all right.
Dylan Griggs, head coach at Russell County at the Coaching Show. Here,
going to take a break, Benjamin Russell, Smithie Riders.

Speaker 4 (01:03:56):
Next. Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches Show
where you're at Moe's original Barbius right to you, brought

high school. Not a good afternoon.

Speaker 10 (01:04:14):
Coach, How were you?

Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
I'm doing great, man, how you got were good?

Speaker 9 (01:04:18):
Excited to be back?

Speaker 10 (01:04:19):
Man? You know what this is.

Speaker 4 (01:04:20):
This is the most exciting Wednesday of the year for
us because it's the first coaching show and we know
where a day on some teams we got we got
three or four teams in the play tomorrow, two days
away from the rest of them.

Speaker 6 (01:04:34):
And you know what.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
The theme this year is weight loss. We got some
weight loss in this building, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:04:39):
Now they're practicing what they preach and the way.

Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Yeah, another five.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
Look, if I can do it, and I know if
you can do it, I can.

Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
Oh, that's right, if I can.

Speaker 4 (01:04:48):
Just he says, if I can do it, and I'm forty,
I know y'all want.

Speaker 5 (01:04:51):
To do it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
Coach, You looking good, man.

Speaker 9 (01:04:53):
I appreciate it, sir.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
Coach just lost the launch.

Speaker 14 (01:04:56):
You look good.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
We've had heck, several guys has tried to hone it up.
So it's hard when you get old. Coach, is you
know not that you're I'm about me.

Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
But don't say anything, Jeff, don't he caught somebody skinny
said wake me to that.

Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
Ye stop.

Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
This has gotta be somebody like this has got to
be like.

Speaker 9 (01:05:15):
Yes, is he is?

Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
He en up feeding too because he's skinner and he's
getting on me for because lst things in Alexander City.

Speaker 32 (01:05:24):
Coach, it's it's wonderful, man, the best time of year,
and uh, we're excited to getting.

Speaker 6 (01:05:29):
This season going.

Speaker 7 (01:05:30):
All right.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
I want to know real quick, is it Martin Savay's field? Okay,
I said it right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
I wouldn't sure if it was Savage Smart or Martin Martin.

Speaker 12 (01:05:38):
Okay, I just want to.

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Clear it up because that's my bud. Well, I know
both of them. Yeah, they're both fine individuals.

Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
They are, you know, but anyway, I.

Speaker 9 (01:05:46):
Respect for both of them. I do too.

Speaker 6 (01:05:47):
Coach, I do too. All Right, you're a football.

Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
Team, benjam Russell. Let's talk about it.

Speaker 6 (01:05:51):
Let's go to defense.

Speaker 32 (01:05:54):
Well, you know, we got got a good bit back defensively,
uh freshmen that started for us Land last year on
the front and both of them are back. Plus in
the otherlands, we have three tenth graders out of our
four guys up front, and uh and two seniors to
go with them, and we're you know, we feel like
that's the the best part of our defense. Uh, we
lost two linebackers that were really good. Jai Hicks, our

(01:06:16):
mike linebacker, was our leading tackler the last three years.

Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
Uh.

Speaker 32 (01:06:20):
I think Brett told me today that they figured he's
the leading tackler in the.

Speaker 9 (01:06:24):
History of the school.

Speaker 32 (01:06:25):
That's I mean, that's how good he was. And Uh,
our outside linebacker, Kayden Hyde. Those two guys are gonna
be hard to replace. And uh, but we got some
some young guys that are stepping in and you know,
they've got the tools to do it. They just need
to grow into the spot. And uh, you know, we're
excited about that. And uh in the off season, I
hired Juwan Taylor, who played for me at Park Crossing
and then four years at Florida, to be the DV coach.

(01:06:47):
And he's done a great job with those guys in
the back and they're getting better every day, and they
had a great summer and uh, you know, I feel
really confident about that. I think we can be pretty
good defensively.

Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
Sounds like it in some side. He talked about the
big receiver the other day.

Speaker 4 (01:07:02):
When you got an athletic quarterback.

Speaker 32 (01:07:04):
Not as much as I mean you lost hard from Yeah,
we lost we lost about three thousand yards.

Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Of offense off last year's team.

Speaker 32 (01:07:10):
And uh, you know a three year started a quarterback
that was, you know, the big guy with a big
arm and all that stuff. But Elijah Johnson, he's a
junior that uh he's actually started basketball and baseball as
for a couple of years. I mean he's played on
the basketball team since he was in the ninth grade.
Uh so he's got experience in athletics at the six

(01:07:32):
A level, just not so much in football. But he's
a great kid. That's uh, you know, he's got a
lot of confidence. Uh he's a he he believes he
can make every play, every throw, you know, and he
wants the ball with the game on the line. And
you like that about kids, and uh, you know he's
he's the leader of our offense and I expect him
to have you know, he's gonna have to he's gonna

(01:07:53):
have to have a great night Friday night for us
to be successful.

Speaker 4 (01:07:56):
And he got your whole offense line back to Well, we've.

Speaker 32 (01:07:58):
Got five guys that played a ton, four of them
started the fifth ones started a game or two. So yeah,
we've got a lot of those guys back and you know,
they're not gonna impress anybody by the way they look.

Speaker 6 (01:08:09):
They're all about.

Speaker 32 (01:08:10):
Five ten, five eleven, you know, two hundred and seventy
to three hundred pounds and good high school football players,
you know, and I've always said that's what you win
with in high school. You know, you got your superstars,
but the heart of your team's gonna be really good
high school players. And that's what these guys are. And
they've been together for a long time, and you know
they're gonna determine what kind of team we have. It

(01:08:31):
doesn't matter what kind of quarterback receivers, right, none of
that matters if they don't if they don't play well.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
You know what, coach, you gotta have everybody play well.

Speaker 4 (01:08:40):
That is important with a young with an inexperienced quarterback, though,
with that offensive line coming back, that's that's got to
be a confidence loos for him because they're gonna give
them a little bit more time to well.

Speaker 32 (01:08:49):
That's what you would hope. You know, we're facing the
front Friday night. That's probably gonna be the best one
we see all year. They're they're very dynamic, they're big,
they're fast, they really get after you. So you know,
our offensive line's got their hands full of that bunch,
and you know he's got two or three that are
D one guys already.

Speaker 9 (01:09:06):
And uh you know, so that that's the challenge.

Speaker 32 (01:09:09):
We've challenged them all week and if they'll give us time,
we feel like we can make plays on people.

Speaker 4 (01:09:14):
Y'all got to play in there. Hey, flipp it this
So Derek after quick and high, well het him jump for.

Speaker 32 (01:09:19):
Well, yeah, of course we do, uh you know, and
that's the thing everybody knows about him, and uh, you know,
we've got to be creative and how we get him
the ball and and really it starts with our running game.
And you know, if we can paund the ball and
be successful running it and force them to have to
put another player in the box, then we can get
some sink an opportunity to make plays.

Speaker 10 (01:09:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:09:39):
I mean you're gonna notice him right off.

Speaker 9 (01:09:41):
Yeah, you ain't gonna miss him.

Speaker 5 (01:09:42):
No, you can't.

Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
Just man, he was he stood out in your at
your media day.

Speaker 9 (01:09:46):
And let me tell you something. He's one of the
great kids.

Speaker 10 (01:09:49):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
That makes it better than it it does.

Speaker 32 (01:09:51):
You know, he's fun to be around, he's he's a
hard worker, you know this spring he was on uh
he qualified for the state track meet, so the first
we could practice, he wasn't practicing, but he was out
there every day coaching his teammates, trying to help. And uh,
you know he he's a real team player.

Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
He doesn't one event coach in the track.

Speaker 32 (01:10:10):
Uh jump and and uh I think he had two
events he qualified. I know high jump was one of them.

Speaker 4 (01:10:17):
Yeah, he's already six cinches taller than the most cvs.
And then now he's a high jump.

Speaker 32 (01:10:20):
Oh he can get up now he's got some hops. Uh,
but you know we're gonna throw it up to him.
See if he can go up there and get it.

Speaker 9 (01:10:26):
I promise you.

Speaker 4 (01:10:27):
I think everybody when they got a tall receiver play
like that.

Speaker 20 (01:10:29):
Go that's right, that's not unusual.

Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
What do you think about it? Tomorrow night, Friday nights game,
I keep you much more.

Speaker 32 (01:10:34):
Well, you know, we're playing a really good team. And
you know they got thirty eight seniors and we got eighteen,
and uh, you know that's but that's okay.

Speaker 5 (01:10:43):
We scheduled.

Speaker 32 (01:10:44):
We wanted to get this game back back going, and uh,
you're right, you know, as long as we're one classification apart.
We need to play each other and and you know
we'll have our chances and just to you know, it's
the team that we played the most in the history
of the school.

Speaker 9 (01:10:57):
So you know it should be a great night.

Speaker 6 (01:11:00):
Weather.

Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
There's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 13 (01:11:01):
Uh.

Speaker 32 (01:11:01):
Respect the big crowd, they're you know, they're excited. Coach
Moore's got a lot of enthusiasm going over there. The
fans are excited, community is excited. So you know it
should be a great high school football game.

Speaker 9 (01:11:11):
I just hope we can.

Speaker 32 (01:11:12):
We can hang in there and uh and give them
a game and uh, you know, both of us come
out of an injury free and set us up for
a good year.

Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
It's always been that way, I hope. Like in Alexander City,
you know you want to win, but if the other
team wins, you so happy for you. I forget all
about yourself, right.

Speaker 20 (01:11:27):

Each coach and center or a family member. We feed
two coaches each or two with each school.

Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Each week and they come out and spend about five
to eight minutes with us, so we kind of go
both ways.

Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
So we certainly have a lot investing.

Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
We appreciate mods, We appreciate the with Peda Clinic and
Gory's Furniture Express.

Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
What'd be right, guys, Yes, sir, all right? What notice
suckle blue levels in the house, guys, go blue Devil's

eighty Okay, we're saving. We're saving what you got, Coach.
That's the I mean, I think we could just call
it Moe's Wings and we could get by from cheese
wing night here wing wing wing all right, notice suckle
all right?

Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
So first off, Coach Jones.

Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
Has stepped away a leave of absence, and we certainly
want to pray he's taking a personal leaving the absence
and we want to think about him and Coach Willis
and graduations being named Raim, congratulations to you for that,
and coach is good to see you again as well.
So first, everybody kind of give us eybody the same
on the staff.

Speaker 38 (01:13:28):
Any other changes, yes, sir, that Coach Jones was the
only change we still have by the whole staff. But
like I said, we we're pretty much a look at
look at it more as a brotherhood, so we don't
really even call it the coaching staff.

Speaker 7 (01:13:41):
This is our we are brothers here.

Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
So there you go.

Speaker 7 (01:13:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got everybody back, Yes, sir.

Speaker 10 (01:13:46):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
I love it all right, So tell us a little
bit about your team.

Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
You talk about everybody back. And this week's game with
loa ch Poker was canceled. It was supposed to be
a big event Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
It's a Battle of Highway fourteen. I think I looked
it up first time since seventy five. This game won't
be played.

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
I know there was a bad tragedy, awful tragedy a
few weeks ago, not directly involved you guys, but members
a former couple of guys that had graduated and supposedly
and then a young man.

Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
That was that lost his life.

Speaker 6 (01:14:14):
I know that's hard, yes, sir, because you're in.

Speaker 7 (01:14:16):
The business with kids, so I know that's been Yes,
it's very difficult.

Speaker 38 (01:14:21):
We're praying for both communities. Anytime thing like this happened
is very sad. So, like I said, we're playing for
both both communities, and we're just hoping that everybody can
kind of come together and get through this leituation.

Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
No more viole kids handling everything, Okay, coaching.

Speaker 38 (01:14:41):
Yes, sir, Yes, sir, they've they've all still been positive alight.
Like I said, the work is pretty much what they've
kind of been focused on. So we've, like I said,
we're keeping the family in our prayers, but we're trying
to kind of keep it on football and just kind
of keep out our guys all together.

Speaker 5 (01:14:59):
Again.

Speaker 3 (01:14:59):
There you go, noticircle blue that was off this week.
Talk to me about your football team, coach. Let's go
to your defensive side.

Speaker 7 (01:15:05):
Defensively, we got I think we only lost what we have.

Speaker 39 (01:15:09):
Uh, we have eight return and started there you go,
ranging from the d line to the line back and
forth line. Our linebacker cour is gonna be our bread
and butler this year. We have Theias Fountain to turn in.

Speaker 7 (01:15:28):
Our region, our region guy.

Speaker 39 (01:15:31):
We also have Isaiah hurt Uh moved from a d
N did play linebacker something last year. So we're replacing
some guys and we were moving some guys around. We
lost a few guys transferred out of the district, but
we're replacing them with guys that played numerous time, numerous

(01:15:56):
plays last year in the game. So h our defense,
we should be pretty solid.

Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
How many players do y'all have.

Speaker 7 (01:16:05):
Last time we counted, it was like it was about
a solid thirty.

Speaker 38 (01:16:09):
Like I said, is uh, we're still young, so we're
gonna be looking at even some of our eighth grader's
ninth grade is kind of stepping in into some some
of those key spots, so kind of grow with them
and roll with them.

Speaker 7 (01:16:20):
So we've been working, so I think we're gonna be okay.

Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
Yeah, the I mean it's gonna You mentioned eight on
the offense. What about defense? How many coming back?

Speaker 10 (01:16:28):
That's defense?

Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
I mean, I mean on defense, defense, give me just
be more sec What about your offense? Because I was
flipped there first.

Speaker 7 (01:16:35):
Offensively, we have Walston Tatum at quarterback.

Speaker 38 (01:16:40):
Last year, he played a lot of receiver, a lot
of slap, but he was one of those utility guys
that we kind of used.

Speaker 7 (01:16:45):
So he was our second stream quarterback last year.

Speaker 38 (01:16:47):
But this year he's kind of stepped into that starting
role and he's always been a pretty solid leader.

Speaker 7 (01:16:52):
So we have Desmond Miller, like you said, this finals
on our defense.

Speaker 38 (01:16:56):
End, but he's also all start and running back our
area guys, So we're looking for those guys to do
some special things this year.

Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
Me both ways, playing on both sides.

Speaker 7 (01:17:04):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we uh pretty much uh eight of them.
Yeah yeah.

Speaker 38 (01:17:11):
We have all those guys A lot of time they
won't be coming off the field, so that's kind of
been our focus and making sure we're we're we've been
conditioning the right way so then they can be ready
to go fresh legs.

Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
Oh yeah, thank y'all for being with us. Look forward
talking all right, Sucker Blue dovels. We're rolling right along.
Quick break, Yes, sir, go Blue, come back. We're gonna
talk poker football with coach Brandon Hall. Hey, we welcome back.

guys and all the staff here for what they do.

how's things in poker?

Speaker 40 (01:18:18):
Everything good man. We're holding the roll, we're getting getting
it back going, and we're excited.

Speaker 5 (01:18:23):
You know how it is. I do, I do.

Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
I talked with not of Suga Waggo. We were talking
no game this week, coach, sir, I know you had
a tough situation. You're doing with it.

Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
He was killed and I know that's been difficult, and
this not only not to just push him aside, but
to think about him and to move forward and play
a little football.

Speaker 5 (01:18:42):
All right. We know we dedicated that season to him. Good.

Speaker 40 (01:18:45):
Every time they breaking down, they breaking down on eighteen
that was his numbers. So kid, they kid, they you
know they playing for him. They put it all online
for him. This ship good good.

Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
I know his and I hate that. Kids aren't supposed
to you know, right, we're not supposed to bury kids,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Talk coach.

Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
That's so yeah, So all right, you're off this week, Yes, sir,
I've been starting on defense. Let's go to offense. Let's
go to offense.

Speaker 40 (01:19:08):
Coach, Oh, yeah, tell me about your team. So we
got uh people coming back. Just when Davis nams he's
back him and kJ Bryant. Uh, two good guys that's
getting it done.

Speaker 5 (01:19:20):
Coach.

Speaker 40 (01:19:21):
Our coach Daniel Bird does a great job with the offense.
He gets some guys going plays at the high pace,
fast pace, pressed around a little bit and getting the
guys going. Man, we got some good guys up front
that they're kind of young up front, but we're doing
a good all of those guys together. We have a
couple of receivers that's doing pretty good. Callaway the young

(01:19:42):
ninth GUARDE has been playing well for us. So we've
been doing doing well. Force at the receiver position, Jamichael
Morris playing to slot him in Jakari Walkers, they've been
doing pretty good. We know, we're just trying to get
better and better each and every day.

Speaker 5 (01:20:00):
I've been pretty pleased. He's been rolling so far his
phone and.

Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
We got to stop people. Coach, you know that with
your defense.

Speaker 5 (01:20:08):
They say if they don't score, they can't win. That's
what I said about d C. I said, don't score,
they can't win. Now, so don't look at me crazy.
In the fourth quarter.

Speaker 40 (01:20:18):
But now you're a coach Stone Man, Coach Stone, we's
been a head coach at doun A b C.

Speaker 5 (01:20:22):
Rang and he come from Central Phisias City.

Speaker 7 (01:20:25):
Uh.

Speaker 40 (01:20:25):
He coached there for the last couple of years. Just
came off in the state championship. Tell the Stone he doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
Man, I didn't realize you had him.

Speaker 40 (01:20:32):
Yeah, he's with us. Uh Ruther three four. Have some
guys out there, Flying Engineer coming back playing in the
middle forward. He does a great job in the middle.
We have some good dbs, you know, a lot of
guys were both ways so like Jakari Walkers as far

(01:20:55):
as at the defensive back position. We have Sam a
j Cart playing inside or guys flying around everywhere. Man,
just trying to mold it together.

Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Yeah, very How many numbers you got all right?

Speaker 5 (01:21:07):
Right now we're about at forty one. It's a good though.

Speaker 6 (01:21:10):
That's solid.

Speaker 5 (01:21:11):
Yep, solid numbers. So happy with that all right?

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
As a first year head coach, as you sit here, Gun,
what are you thinking?

Speaker 5 (01:21:19):
Thank you? Game? We could be next week.

Speaker 40 (01:21:24):
So we'll go at it tomorrow, you know, competing a
little bit, sharpened each other up, and then it we'll
take some time. High school football. You know, let them
relax a little bit and then because they know when
they're coming on month, work.

Speaker 4 (01:21:36):
For it for a while, you know, coach looking ahead,
I mean your first game really not at least got
Have you ever done any study on them yet?

Speaker 9 (01:21:43):
Uh?

Speaker 40 (01:21:44):
Well no, because we don't really have any film on
but we will.

Speaker 5 (01:21:47):
We'll watch them this week. You know, they play Friday
that fall.

Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
Probably know what, that's probably the best game, yeah, because
I mean they played a bunch of games last year.
If you don't look at if you don't if you
don't look at Glenn Wood in the break season, in
the championship game, you probably don't get much.

Speaker 5 (01:22:02):
That's right.

Speaker 12 (01:22:03):
They didn't.

Speaker 4 (01:22:03):
They running clock people real bad in the right most
of the regular season.

Speaker 5 (01:22:08):
That's right. I know they're gonna be rid of the
rock and roll will be too.

Speaker 2 (01:22:12):
It is a good that's a different. I think that's
a good series for y'all both schools. I think it's quick.
Don't take you along. I think it's gonna be a
good crowd.

Speaker 10 (01:22:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:22:21):
Historically they travel with you guys, will traveling what I'm
talking about. Yeah, I've been to a couple of.

Speaker 11 (01:22:25):
Times, you know what.

Speaker 4 (01:22:27):
I remember when y'all used to play well, y'all you
want there.

Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
But yeah, used to play board. Yes, yes, So you know.

Speaker 40 (01:22:36):
When it was August thirty, we have a we have
a black out. We're dedicating the field to gonna move
it to all all right, so that's what we were confused.
So it's the thirtieth thirty.

Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
That's the game.

Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
I'll be will be there.

Speaker 40 (01:22:46):
They're gonna dedicate the field to start the programming.

Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
Then coach State, you got that's o versus least.

Speaker 4 (01:22:52):
I see Coach Tate all the time.

Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
That's what John. Can you get this way back?

Speaker 5 (01:22:57):
He passed away? Okay, he started back in the.

Speaker 4 (01:23:01):
Long time.

Speaker 40 (01:23:02):
Okay, he was the first one to put it and
put his nap on to get the programs going.

Speaker 5 (01:23:05):
Good day.

Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
So we're gonna be there, I reckon, I know, and
we're going from both the coach good to see you
love your family doing good, everybody Goody's sair. You tell
them we said a little quick break, come back, Brian
Moore over like a on deck when we come back.

Speaker 2 (01:23:29):
Moe's Barbecue.

Speaker 3 (01:23:31):
Hosts of the high school coaches present about with PD
Clint mos Barbecue, and I said at most about it
with Peter Clinton and Gory's Furniture Express and if you
need some practic go by Gorory's Furniture Spress located on
Highway one sixty nine. Time to talk Bulldoll football with
Brian Moore, Coach. Good to see you tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:23:50):
Glad to be here, man, sir, It's.

Speaker 2 (01:23:52):
Good to see you and Lindsey and all of the games.

Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
Parker and Baker. Baker, Man, I gotta get Baker. Parker
looks like a mixture of both of y'all. To me,
I ain't quite figured out. Maybe a good looking family.

Speaker 11 (01:24:05):
Coach.

Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
It was last Thursday, for sure, and so anyway, glad
to have you at Opeka and open up Friday night.
Got to go on the road. We talked with coach Grider.
But first let's talk about your Bulldog football team.

Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
Coach, I kind of a little bit from talking to
you on the mark in the morning, kind of like
with some other guys. And I've started with defense with everybody.
So let's start with defense with you, Coach. Let's give
you a rundown kind of tell us about your defensive side,
and then we'll shift to offense in the special team.

Speaker 6 (01:24:32):
Yeah, we're gonna start eleven singers Friday Night goodness and
uh you know which is a blessing anna, you know,
a fear later you know, years from now. But uh,
but no, it starts with our front. You know, Elik
obviously is the headliner, but Malik altr is a great
player and uh an outstanding young man. And then marsh Smiley,
you know as as an unbelievable player. I think he's

(01:24:53):
an SEC player hopefully that point, Jakai Lightfoot has started
a bunch of times and his hope like a career
at nose guard. And then we'll start Braden Stintson as
the other as the West ends.

Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
Yeah, I'm getting old.

Speaker 6 (01:25:08):
Where we're at so uh and then of course you know,
uh Tyler Tyler Moore is healthy now and uh, you know,
really proud for him and Tim and their family. You know,
got to this point, saw him tonight and uh, Tim
has been really good to the program.

Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
He sure many years many all those you mentioned for.

Speaker 6 (01:25:27):
Sure, ty and Alan Jackson both those guys will play
moved to us this past year. And he's a player linebacker,
he's a baller, he's a player. And Carson Masso plays
strong safety. That came really more of a sam linebacker
and outside guy. And then for senior back end guys,
a court Ingram has played a lot. Devin Dixon uh
does a great job back there, coaches sons who's really smart.

(01:25:48):
And then our safety is Keevan King and Tyree's Pitts.
So feel really good about that group. And then we'll
play about twenty guys on defense though, and so we
want to run bodies in there, and you know it's
tough to hold up for sixty sixty five aps in
a ball game so on, So we've always done that
at Opelika from coach mc cracken and coach Blackman, you
you know, and.

Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
It sounds like eleven stars trial. That's something.

Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
Uh, we're talking first year head coach op like a
Brian Moore talking about the Dogs. Just went over his
defense offense. I know you got two sophomore and you've
talked about that.

Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
You've got some good line. You know you've got one
from Leastcott Jackson. It came over ye talk a little
bit about your offense.

Speaker 6 (01:26:27):
It obviously start four seniors up front, not a ton
of experience though really the two experienced guys Tremont Thomas
has left tackle and Kyler. We'll slide over who'll play center,
and uh, Jackson's a big time athlete, and yeah, but

(01:26:47):
but ightd have done a great job. And then I
warn't right guard Darius Whitlow, who has I think has
a chance being a he's a load about three ten,
outstanding young man, great mother, just just great. People love them.
And uh and then it right tackled David Miller, who's
a converted tight end. David and his dad and they're

(01:27:09):
like massive people and I said, man, this guy looks
like a tie.

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
And uh, it's awesome.

Speaker 6 (01:27:15):
Yeah, and dad, Jeff, great fool, they really are. David's
got great length. Both of our tackles will go six three,
six four, David maybe more like six five, and uh
we love length and athleticism, so we can run up front.
And so but we'll play eight guys up front. Eric
Mason will play some Carmel Tolbert is a senior that

(01:27:35):
and uh so we feel really good about that group.
Uh and then you know, at full back, so we're
still kind of old school. We'll get in twenty one
and play back still and get under center some you know,
and and uh, yeah, I mean you know that's what
I remember, you know from being here and that we've
always kept an element of that. And uh, it's our
full backs late Clayton and then to play inside. Roman's

(01:27:59):
brother is an outstanding athlete, great person, very sharp, and
Julian Pritchett will play in there as well as tight ends.
We can move and be really multiple group. And then
at receiver will play six or seven guys headline by
b and Jamar Miller, the two seniors that have played
a lot. The best perimeter blocker I've ever had. I mean,
he just like you, no doubt, just hard nos an,

(01:28:25):
incredible efforts and just great. And then it's a young
son will play some extras easy man. You know I've
known Jay the baby and Ben it'll be a and uh,
Jalen Washington will play out there some and Jnson who's
a young kid that will be football players. So group,

(01:28:49):
I hope I didn't leave anybody out, but you did go.
But but love our love, our tent factor to young
and more's will battle and continue to battle. I mean
all fall really about, you know, either starting the game
or keeping that job. It's a day to day comedye.
I love Kobe Key well talent, great athlete, and then

(01:29:12):
see who's a great athlete as well, who's who's got
a big arm? And so we like our team. I
just don't know. I don't know what it's gonna look.
I've said before, I said on your show, I mean,
is it. It's been so much work and so much
buy in and so much relationship building, you know that.
I'm just excited and we got to go play a

(01:29:34):
really good team on the road. So so we'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:29:36):
But again, uh, Cecina, I think you to us about
the kickers special teams.

Speaker 6 (01:29:46):
Yeah, I love Johnny. Johnny's got a big leg.

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Johnny I couldn't get his first name.

Speaker 6 (01:29:50):
Leg, you know, very calm and collected, you know, kind
of demeanor you want it kicker and reached basilytill kick
some too, reaches it up and come be really good.
He's a sophomore. And then the punter will design Henderson,
who I was a little bit afraid of, but really athletic. Yeah,

(01:30:11):
very unusual, but really skilled in its leg and so
feel good about him. Cam Raley, I think, uh. And
then Eperson will handle the short snaps on field goal.
Brody Jones will be the holder. So again feel really
good about that whole group.

Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
Yeah, get an athlete and hope helps.

Speaker 6 (01:30:27):
Yeah, kick off an end zone, I hope, so it
should be Yeah, you know that's that's the deal on it.
But you know, yeah, yeah, I want to kick it
to this kid from Ben Russell. Uh he's an issue
back there for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:30:40):
How do you offset the big receiver?

Speaker 28 (01:30:43):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:30:43):
Well, I mean, you know he's gonna make his place.
I mean, you know you have to put two on him.
Know where he is obviously, you know there's a gigantic
circle around his number on the scouting report and where
he's gonna be his horse formation. But they do a
great job of putting him in different experienced quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:30:57):
I know he's a junior, but he's had had somebody
else there right right.

Speaker 2 (01:31:05):
He was the he was one of them. I don't
know if.

Speaker 6 (01:31:08):
Well it was a player and I think maybe a
three year start. Yeah, he was.

Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
I knew he played. Where is he playing? He's somewhere
in there.

Speaker 6 (01:31:17):
Not many.

Speaker 4 (01:31:18):
Yeah, I think he's probably you Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:31:20):
I mean they were as skilled last year as as
anybody I've seen on film outside and they still bring
some of that. Just the big receiver six five two fifteen,
but also some of the slot guys and skilled guys,
so they're gonna be really talented.

Speaker 4 (01:31:33):
Well they said that, Coach Grider said three thousand dollars offense.

Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
He had a way between two quarterbacks for sure. And yeah,
by the way, big day to Martin lunch about your lunch.

Speaker 6 (01:31:42):
Yeah, so we do a football lunching and so it's
at the three sixteen center at First Baptist Church. Appreciate
Pastor Myers and those guys for doing that and incredible
staff there. Well, so what we're doing basically, we talked
Paul Man.

Speaker 5 (01:31:55):
We go in there.

Speaker 6 (01:31:56):
You know, I turn on the film you know, obviously
previewed the game coming up. Not a lot of film
right now, you know, as early as we are, but
that'll get more in depth as we go. But kids,
you know, and I'll come from different angles. It's not
always just me, you know, all lunch, it's different angles.
Coordinators and kids come in and get get on stages,
Guys like Malik who are gonna have to do that
in their career. It's a great oper as we are,

(01:32:18):
but that'll get more in depth as we go. But kids,
you know, and I'll come from different angles. It's not
always just me, you know, all lunch, it's different angles.
Coordinators and kids come in and get get on stages.
Guys like Milik who are gonna have to do that
in their career. It's a great oper ultimate for those guys.

Speaker 12 (01:32:34):
So it's just it's about some program open to the public.

Speaker 6 (01:32:37):
Ten dollars, right, that's right, ten dollars and uh at
twelve from twelve to one one Iri one of those we.

Speaker 9 (01:32:43):
Never go over.

Speaker 3 (01:32:44):
You know.

Speaker 6 (01:32:44):
We're gonna stay on Schedulets Church.

Speaker 3 (01:32:46):
Every Thursday and noon. It's at the old gym. I've
had a bunch of questions how to get there. It's
the three sixteen building, but this road the left of
the side entrance to the sanctuary.

Speaker 12 (01:32:54):
Coach More, goodness, loveybody.

Speaker 6 (01:32:55):
Yeah, you appreciate it. Those dogs.

Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
Coach More a quick break. Come back. We're gonna talk
with Bucker T.

Speaker 12 (01:33:00):
Washington.

Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
Coach Austin on deck at the Coaches Show at Modes.

Speaker 12 (01:33:13):
All right, we're back. It's the high School Coaches Show.

Speaker 27 (01:33:16):
Yes, this is the most exciting six minutes of the
Coaches Show because it's board Guard football time. We'd like
to thank our sponsors, the orth Pittic Clinic, Fox Sports
The Game. We are yes at Moe's Original Barbecue. iHeartRadio,
Gory's Furniture. Some fine folks out there that really technically
they're in board guard on one sixty nine and yes,
we're listening to the Kicker WKKR ninety seven to seven.

(01:33:40):
That's Lee County's best country if you didn't know. And
on Fox Sports The Game nine ten am and thirteen
ten as good job, coach, Hey, we made it, Coach Wallace.

Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
We made it through this year. We've eight we're ready
to go.

Speaker 4 (01:33:54):
We got coach Jones, we got coach Wallace.

Speaker 12 (01:33:58):
You' offense coordinator, right, yes, sir, thoughts only only when
we're scoring a lot of points, that's right, That's right.
Then he takes over when y'all well, we'll just let
somebody else claim it. If we're struggling.

Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
I got hey, hey, you know what you uh and
you open up with I mean, with a good team,
you go to we tumpka, yes, sir, with Tom indians all,
let's talk about your team as the coach.

Speaker 27 (01:34:20):
Coach Wallace, Well, it's kind of funny, was just talking
about it, and we're uh, you hate to use the
word young in any any experience, but we are young
and inexperienced.

Speaker 5 (01:34:30):
Uh Uh.

Speaker 12 (01:34:32):
Cove Jones is gonna be our quarterback again this year.

Speaker 27 (01:34:34):
He'll he'll start the game off four us and he's
probably he's a tenth grader and he probably has more
varsity experience than all the other players combined on our
offense really so, but they're good players. Like it's not
like we're we're we're hurting for talent. They just it's
just their turn to start playing. So we've got a
lot of sophomores and juniors out there, uh starting this year,

(01:34:55):
and we're really excited about it. They they bring some
dimensions to the offense we haven't really been able to
get to in the last couple of years. So we're
excited about this group and what they uh, the things
they could do on the field.

Speaker 4 (01:35:07):
Okay, and coach, you wanna talk about your defensive side
of football.

Speaker 27 (01:35:11):
Man, I guess the easiest say to say, we got
more returners on defense than coming back we do on offense. So, uh,
we're excited about those kids. We've so probably around six returners.
But even in this there's a lot of other kids
that because of injuries last year that they gots Friday
night reps that are now starting, So to say that,

(01:35:32):
I would say everybody on the defensive side of the
ball that will be playing starting Friday night has played
on Friday Nights at some point last year.

Speaker 12 (01:35:38):
Can't say that on the offensive. And I said that
on the offense. Sorry, I was going to.

Speaker 4 (01:35:43):
Ask them, man, I said, I know you may you
don't have that many starters returning, but any of them
did any of them get to play any some last
year like.

Speaker 12 (01:35:49):
Mop up Stiff? Well, you know, well there was always
some of that. I mean, there was a little bit
of that here and there.

Speaker 27 (01:35:54):
You know, So there's it's they're not, you know, never
been on the field like Friday Night, but just hasn't
been where.

Speaker 12 (01:36:00):
Hey, it's the first.

Speaker 3 (01:36:14):
Go ahead, welcome back to It's my fault for not
bringing He wants to know where Kujo's at will He
reminded me when I saw the dog down there that
I was like, Kujos could be here tonight.

Speaker 12 (01:36:22):
Well I left him it was too hot, but I'll
get him here next week. Yeah, it'll be ninety five. Well,
everybody's that's where Jo was. I mean, every time I
come around the corner, and he there, he'll be I'll
bring him next week.

Speaker 3 (01:36:35):
Coach Keith Ethrige in the house and the son Smiley
camera came to see y'all.

Speaker 12 (01:36:39):
Ye appreciate y'all having us absolutely back that down a year.

Speaker 2 (01:36:44):
I know it's been so good. It felt so good
this morning.

Speaker 41 (01:36:46):
Oh go, it felt good. I talk to you on
the phone. Yeah, man, hey, I thank you for promoting
our pet rally to you was off.

Speaker 10 (01:36:54):
You're welcome. Look.

Speaker 12 (01:36:56):
Ms Bodford reached out to me. I know her through
the Burns family.

Speaker 3 (01:37:01):
Uh, Jay and Meg Burns and uh, their son John
David Tilman graduated and uh they had a party at
their house and yeah they were there and the good people,
a lot of people.

Speaker 12 (01:37:11):
And he's a little bitty fellow, Hugh is. Yeah, you
can't pick him out. Sons a polite kid.

Speaker 10 (01:37:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (01:37:18):
He came up at media days and you know, kind
of reintroduced his stuff and then his mother.

Speaker 2 (01:37:21):
Man, we put that problem together.

Speaker 12 (01:37:23):
We were glad to help.

Speaker 4 (01:37:23):
Coach.

Speaker 12 (01:37:24):
Yeah, we appreciate it. Yeah, but good people working in
your book club. I want to tell you that, awesome people.

Speaker 2 (01:37:28):
Joe Donaldson, Yeah, disrupting good. I didn't mean that.

Speaker 12 (01:37:32):
I just know and and miss Yeah, those two us
craz Yeah, I mean that we got tons of great parents.

Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
I mean's in how many officers you have? I'm just curious,
do you know.

Speaker 12 (01:37:44):
I think there's fine.

Speaker 41 (01:37:45):
I think there's a present vice press. You know, well,
I see you, I see you're on your social media.
We were talking them put the sponsors up, all yes,
And then we have people that are over you know,
uh communications. We have people that are over our programs.

Speaker 2 (01:37:58):
People.

Speaker 12 (01:37:59):
So you know a lot of people do a lot
of things good over football. Who handles football player's.

Speaker 2 (01:38:07):
Look whoever it is?

Speaker 12 (01:38:08):
Dagham genius? Speaking of that genius. All right, so let's
talk about I asked Camden all my tough questions. Yea, yeah,
he answered that.

Speaker 10 (01:38:18):
All right.

Speaker 4 (01:38:19):
So what's that Your daughter came in and was telling
everybody who was hurting? Yes, yes, she was like, I
think here's the injury. Yeah, you got your brother.

Speaker 12 (01:38:29):
With your sister.

Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
I mean was sitting there going, well, he can't play
that and this one ain't gonna play and we'll keep
it that all right.

Speaker 12 (01:38:35):
Tomorrow Friday night, playing team out of many. Talk about
your team first, Let's go offense.

Speaker 41 (01:38:40):
Offense, you know, great our offensive linemen have had a
great summer, you know, great uh great off season. You know,
we got three three seniors starting up there on Friday,
Hugh Bodford, Clyn Walmack and Aide Platt. All three of
those guys are not only football players, are great young

(01:39:01):
men who worked tremendously hard.

Speaker 12 (01:39:04):
And then we got two juniors right now. You know,
we got two juniors who are starting, and there's some
other guys.

Speaker 41 (01:39:10):
That are that are are pushing those guys, you know,
one of them uh Printing uh Pritchett, who's got multiple
D one offers. And you know, then we you know,
we got two more guys who are juniors who are
who are scrapping for that other spot. But you know,
I think Tucker is gonna get the start on Friday night.

(01:39:32):
So it's you know, good competition up there, you know.
On on the I'll tell you a difference between this
year and some other years. We feel like we have
four or five guys who can score on any play,
you know, because of the speed. You know, I just
think this this team's fast at some key positions or receivers.

Speaker 12 (01:39:52):
You know, we got Peyton Plott, who is electric, you know,
I mean especially anything like his brothers. Oh yeah, he
is good.

Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
He's phenomenal.

Speaker 12 (01:40:02):
I'm telling you, if if his brothers were better than him,
I'm telling you, there you go.

Speaker 5 (01:40:08):
I'm just used.

Speaker 12 (01:40:09):
I'm just saying that he is a lecturer.

Speaker 41 (01:40:10):
He can he can go stop to go, stop to
go as fast as anybody I've ever coached, you know.

Speaker 12 (01:40:16):
Uh and such a great kid.

Speaker 3 (01:40:18):
You know, of course he's raised right his mom and
daddy phenomenal people, they really are.

Speaker 12 (01:40:22):
His little sister is a great flag football player.

Speaker 41 (01:40:24):
She's in middle school so and she's playing on that
JV flag football team, probably be up on the varsity
for South said and you know, just great athletes, great family.

Speaker 12 (01:40:34):
You know, you have ask you who's a junior.

Speaker 10 (01:40:37):
You you have.

Speaker 41 (01:40:39):
Cash Reid who's a junior, and you have Antonio Welch
who's the junior. All three of those guys are also
guys that that can at any on any given time.
They're four four four five kids, they can get it
to the house.

Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
They'll go get it.

Speaker 41 (01:40:53):
And you know, Basil and uh Ryan are two kids
that play tight end for us. And and those two
guys or have had a really good summer or two.

Speaker 10 (01:41:02):
Our quarterback.

Speaker 41 (01:41:03):
You know, he's a kid that started for us last year,
got hurt in that second ball game. Jackson Coill wore
he can spend it. You know, left headed kids.

Speaker 12 (01:41:13):
Came to media days too. That's right.

Speaker 41 (01:41:14):
Yeah, awesome kid, you know, tough, hard news kid. And
then of course you got on one maps and are
running back who's you know, he's the real deal.

Speaker 12 (01:41:23):
He'd be easy to go over. Who hasn't offered?

Speaker 10 (01:41:26):
Who has no?

Speaker 12 (01:41:26):
Yeah, that's who hasn't. Who had would be easier than
who has.

Speaker 41 (01:41:30):
Yeah, he just picked up usc though they all all yeah,
they're all jumping up because I mean he's a special kid.
I means three hundred and seventy five pounds as a gracious.

Speaker 12 (01:41:40):
Being a sixteen year old and runs a full four
or four yeah what five?

Speaker 41 (01:41:46):
He's about five eight five, about five nine, about two ten.

Speaker 10 (01:41:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (01:41:50):
When I say but he looks smaller size wise, he is.

Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
He's rocked up.

Speaker 12 (01:41:55):
You know, he's tough.

Speaker 41 (01:41:56):
So and you know those those guys have really had
a good, you know, off season, and they've got guys
behind them that are pushing them to so makes a
good Charlie Wards. I mean, he's a kid that will
play some running backs, we'll play some receiver. He's sort
of a Christian McCaffrey type kid that it can do
a lot for us. So, you know, really excited about
that offensive side of the ball. You know, our offensive

(01:42:18):
coordinator has has said, you know, this is one of
the more talented group first groups that he's had in
a while.

Speaker 10 (01:42:26):
You know, so.

Speaker 41 (01:42:28):
Of course we got to create some depths. You know,
that's the thing in seven day football.

Speaker 12 (01:42:33):
You know, you're everybody making it through the through the year.

Speaker 41 (01:42:37):
If if they do, you've probably got a chance to
be really good, you know, because if we get everybody
makes it through the year. You know, we got a
chance to be really good this year. So well, defense
side of the ball were you know, we'll be good
up front. You know, we got some really good players
over there. We've got some really good you know, we've
created some depth at linebacker, We've created some depth in

(01:42:57):
the secondary, you know, those we've had some guys grow
up during the summer, and uh, you know, we already
had a lot of depth on that defense in front.

Speaker 12 (01:43:05):
So I'm really god about this group.

Speaker 41 (01:43:07):
You know, I think that we've got a chance to
be special if we if we jail as a team
and and everything, you know, everything works out.

Speaker 12 (01:43:15):
Right, you know, we we talk about legal Tron. Yeah
it's gone. I watched him. He was fun watching, I know, yeah,
it was great. I mean, he's he's a once some
last time kids. You get to coach a special kid.

Speaker 2 (01:43:26):
At that position.

Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
And I enjoyed that little The day you were playing
Enterprise and we were that was an incredible week sit
cert and kicks that kicked fifty yards right through the
roh yeah, and just nailed it. Yeah, excuse me, he's
kicking killing one from the right in front of me and.

Speaker 12 (01:43:40):
Coach Black excuse me, and he just bummed it. And
I was like, okay, but anyway, Who's who's your kicker?
Joe Joe Is is a kid that w be a
junior this year. And then we have Ali.

Speaker 41 (01:43:51):
Ali's a kid that's really consistent. You know, he's he's
a he's not a he's not a he's not going
to kick the long ones, but he's really consistent. Joe
Joe more of our long ball kicker. And Joe just
got his rankings back. I think he's top fifty in
the nation right now.

Speaker 12 (01:44:07):
As far as.

Speaker 41 (01:44:07):
Cole's you know, so he's he's good inside. You know,
I think I think fifty five or so. I think
we could, you know, we we run him out there
and give him shot at it.

Speaker 3 (01:44:18):
All right, Friday night Duck Sanford Stadium, North Miami Beach,
North Miami Beach should look thank you.

Speaker 12 (01:44:23):
I'll be appreciate with you. It's it's Smiley.

Speaker 9 (01:44:25):
Good to see you.

Speaker 4 (01:44:25):
But he'd only be kicking.

Speaker 12 (01:44:27):
Yeah, maybe be kicking now, yeah, I hope, So that'd
be nice. Seven o'clock kick at the Duck, Auburn and
North Miami quick break. We're coming back to Moles. We've
got Booker T. Washington coach Austin next d.

Speaker 6 (01:44:56):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:44:56):

High School Coaches Show presented by the Orthopede Clint and
Gorye's Furniture Express, Jeff.

Speaker 12 (01:45:07):

Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
Furniture from Gorye's Furniture and we both have had surgery
at the Orspeedy Clint, and you know what, we're proud.

Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
Users of both.

Speaker 3 (01:45:14):
Right, yeah, I don't have no issue with either one, right,
love them all, love them all, and speaking of football
and loving them all, we got Booker T.

Speaker 12 (01:45:24):
Washington in the house and this is our first coach show.

Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
I'm right now. We didn't have coach O'Neill and he.

Speaker 3 (01:45:33):
Never came when he was at btw so DeAndre Austin
in his first year.

Speaker 12 (01:45:37):
Coach, good to see you.

Speaker 10 (01:45:38):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 3 (01:45:39):
Yeah, yeah, do me a favor. I know you didn't
give a little history of you. If you don't mind,
we're gonna we don't. We're not gonna make you stand
up like they do.

Speaker 31 (01:45:49):
Tell us a little bit about stef coach volunteer coaching
back in twenty twelve at Carver High School, got on
their full time twenty thirteen coach there up until two
thousand and seventeen. Left uh spring seventeen, went over to
j D was there j D Wood with Lee Carter

(01:46:09):
from seventeen to nineteen. Coach with LC one year Park Crossing.
Then I was down in Charles Henderson for three years.
Mike then no hambright Ham right, okay, last three years.
Who was the coach of Carver, Billy Gresham Billy Man
go ahead and finished finish the tree. But then that
was it that that came from Charles Henderson the last

(01:46:30):
three years and then came BT w what a tree,
love me some.

Speaker 3 (01:46:34):
Elsie Cole, Oh yeah, he and Jeff and I big
Elsie coch fans, Oh yeah. And then uh he named
another coach, Lee Carter and Billyham Gresham.

Speaker 10 (01:46:43):
I mean, where's coach he was at Alabama State?

Speaker 12 (01:46:46):
Okay, I'm talking about he's been at Troy.

Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
I mean phenomenal people.

Speaker 12 (01:46:50):
You coached him to go ahead?

Speaker 4 (01:46:51):
I was I was thinking Coach Poe.

Speaker 10 (01:46:52):
When did he was before? He was before by like
two years before.

Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
I know Coach Pole very well, another good one I remember,
and back when you wasn't even thought of.

Speaker 12 (01:47:03):
I'll pick it.

Speaker 3 (01:47:04):
I don't know if you know him or the gold
Shoes I've heard the name. What a heck of a
football coach he was back? I mean you to go anyway.
We're glad to have you. A great, great run you
had there, oh yeah, and so taking over Elsie coach,
I mean Elsie coach la O'Neil, Yes, sir, I mean
a heck of a run. Last year beat Jackson in
the what quarterfinals or semi quarterfinals being from twenty to seventeen.

(01:47:28):
He made up lost in the semi finals to Catholic.
Not many people's beat Catholic last three years, I think
got two losses or three something like that. So anyway,
what's it been like for you, and talk a little
bit about your team.

Speaker 31 (01:47:38):
Oh man, it's been an amazing time. Got there in
the spring. You know, it was one of those jobs
that kind of you didn't expect to come open. It's
a good point, yeah, coach O'Neil left, I said, oh wow,
you know, hey, that was kind of a shock, wasn't it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
because I think we were Facebook friends before I even
really knew him as a coach. But when I saw
the job came up, I said, you know, this could

(01:47:58):
be a great opportunity. You know, blessed with the opportunity
came in probably one of the most talented teams that
I've ever walked into, top to bottle since I first
started coaching my.

Speaker 10 (01:48:10):
First year at Carver.

Speaker 31 (01:48:11):
This is some serious, right, It's wild Like to see
the amount of athletes all around, it was just like, wow,
right now, yes.

Speaker 12 (01:48:22):
Sir, I'm just making sure I'm getting you right.

Speaker 10 (01:48:25):
Yes, sir, it was a lot.

Speaker 31 (01:48:27):
It was a lot of athletes, a lot of athletes,
a lot of great kids, and they're young that was
the thing.

Speaker 10 (01:48:32):
They're young, they're raw, you know, just hungry.

Speaker 31 (01:48:34):
They want to continue to win, continue to learn how
to win, you know, and sustain it.

Speaker 13 (01:48:39):
You know.

Speaker 31 (01:48:39):
Uh, that's been the best part about it. You know,
a group of kids. I think through the summer we
have a strong fifty, a strong average of fifty every
day every day, you know, kids not really calling for ride.
Might have one or two coaches got big up. But
the kids of that they coming in, they they're working
out every day.

Speaker 12 (01:48:58):
Returney coach.

Speaker 31 (01:49:00):
I think the biggest two that was lost, of course,
Joe and e J were the biggest two names. And
maybe lost one more on the offensive line, and uh,
couple of dbs, a couple of d You got some returning, yes, sir, Yes, sir, Yes, sir.

Speaker 12 (01:49:15):
That's interesting, Yes, sir, go ahead, so does Jackson.

Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
You know, yeah, I was gonna get it. So yeah, yeah,
But I mean coaches, right, so you fall on the road. Now,
look they coach has done a coach. Jurnay has done
a super I mean he took off. He ain't a
little back and he started in the head coaching job
as an assistant. He's done a good job there. Absolutely,
you falls got a pretty good history. What do you
know about them in their team we coached again, they
were in our region last couple of years.

Speaker 12 (01:49:40):
Charles Anderson, so both forgot about that connection.

Speaker 10 (01:49:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 31 (01:49:44):
Both games were kind of like almost game of the
week type games. I know twenty two that that was
a game that kind of really turned our season around
to get us on our run when we.

Speaker 10 (01:49:53):
Went to the state championships. Twenty three was the year.
That was the one we need. We had to win
that game in order.

Speaker 31 (01:50:00):
To keep our playhole playoff hopes alive because we dropped
a couple of games. Hit the injury bug against Rehobeth,
so we dropped to Rehobeth, and so we're going into
you follow undefeating the region. I think they only lost
to Pike Road and maybe Auburn. You know, they eat
everybody else by fifty, you know, so we look at like,
oh man, we got to go in and fighting. You know,

(01:50:21):
Coach Jerny, he does an amazing job over there. Guys
are sound athletes everywhere, discipline, good program, you know, great culture.
So man, it it's always been very very fun coaching
against those guys, just from the Chess mass standpoint, of Hey,
you know, you don't know what what the outcome is
gonna be. You know, it's not one of those games
you can be like, oh yeah, we're gonna go win.
You know, it's one of those games like we got

(01:50:41):
to be on our p's and q's. We have to
be because we're not on our p's and q's, we
you know, we might get beat absolutely all the time,
all the time. So you know, my HET's always off
to the product that they've been putting out over the
last few years since he's taken over the round.

Speaker 12 (01:50:56):
Are you ready to coach your team?

Speaker 10 (01:50:57):
Ready? Absolutely?

Speaker 12 (01:50:58):
Absolutely?

Speaker 10 (01:50:59):
Yes.

Speaker 12 (01:51:00):
So you're still ready to go into the game Friday.

Speaker 31 (01:51:02):
Yes, sir, Yes, I think this is probably one of
the most biggest anticipations that I've had coming into you know,
football season.

Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
Just I'm ready to see these guys go. You know what, coach,
I love your your candidates. Not many pole to sit
there and do. I mean, you just spoke what you
thought was the truth. I love that, Yes, sir, you
know what I mean. You talked about the athletes. You
didn't sugarcoat anything. I mean nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 13 (01:51:23):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (01:51:24):
That's a little breaking them those kids like that how
many do you know we've talked about this, you're talking
about to solid fifty. Do you have many that that
like gonna go both ways play the whole time or
are you able to put.

Speaker 10 (01:51:35):
That's the That's been the biggest thing.

Speaker 31 (01:51:37):
When I first got there, the guys, they were giving
me the run down the history of it, like we
had to play both ways, We had to do this.
That's a tough coach, it is, And so I said, no,
we're not gonna do that. I said, We're going to
develop guys. That was one of the biggest things I
told to my coaches, said, you know we have we
had to go both ways. Sure we have guys that's
gonna go both ways, but for the spring, for the summer,
we're gonna develop guys and we're gonna build these one

(01:51:58):
way guys. Now when we hit the season, you know,
we'll start a little cross training from the few guys
we know they can go both ways. But all in all, no,
we're one way coached.

Speaker 12 (01:52:07):
Coach Moore to build up play. I mean it's just
I know it's hard.

Speaker 10 (01:52:12):
Oh yeah, yeah, And where.

Speaker 4 (01:52:13):
You guys are they skill guys like receivers.

Speaker 31 (01:52:17):
All across like like, because they've been playing two way
for so long. A lot of those guys are like, Coach,
I'm ready to go to defense. I'm ready to go office.
I say, you know, let's master No, let's let's master
our skills set, let's master a position.

Speaker 4 (01:52:30):
You know, coach, even at the higher levels, you occasionally
you'll see a guy go both waves. Now, dud, if
we mean situation, I'm not talking about the whole game,
but if good call.

Speaker 9 (01:52:42):
I saw t J.

Speaker 4 (01:52:43):
Yell And playing on defense against you.

Speaker 3 (01:52:46):
Know, Hex Heirland's quarterback and overtime made the game winning
stop at linebacker.

Speaker 12 (01:52:51):
Quarterback played over time only, didn't he Jill Twitter best athlete?

Speaker 5 (01:52:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (01:52:57):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (01:52:58):
But anyway, I like that you said, because you're gonna
need depth. I don't see how some of these younger,
i mean smaller screws do it. Coach, playing both it's tough,
but they're all going both ways. So it's kind of well.

Speaker 31 (01:53:07):
And when I was down in Charles Sentons when I
first got there, we uh, we were going both ways.
And the biggest thing that we saw is, you know,
we had a couple of guys that were very good players.
First half, they dominant second half, they going backwards. You know,
it was like, you know why why when we sat down,
looked at it like, well, based on the steps they
taking on offensive defense, they playing the game in the

(01:53:29):
first half, you know. So that's what I told our guys.
It's like, you know, my biggest thing is we're going
to we're gonna have some success. We're gonna play some
good teams, but we're going to definitely be a good team.
And by the time we get to the playoffs, we
need to be able to be fresh. You know. I
want the horse to get to the race where we're
not beat up and we're crawling to the fish line.
I want us to be able to run through the
finish line. So when we get in the playoffs we

(01:53:50):
face those good teams. Even now face good teams. We
got to call certain guys over, Hey, come over. You know,
we cross trained. We do have a ten minute period
in practice where we might bring a couple of guys
over the swap period where we'll cross trained some guys
that way, if we need to get that depth, it's
already ready.

Speaker 10 (01:54:06):
They already got that experience.

Speaker 12 (01:54:07):
I love the way you're talking, coach.

Speaker 22 (01:54:08):
Good to see you, Hey, good luck to it your
luck coachill Friday night and best to you and keep
it up and look forward to seeing.

Speaker 5 (01:54:15):
You every week.

Speaker 12 (01:54:15):
Yes, thank you for having me high school coaching show here?

Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
Is that going to do?

Speaker 4 (01:54:19):
It?

Speaker 31 (01:54:20):
Is that it?

Speaker 20 (01:54:20):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:54:21):
Jason, thank you, appreciate you. Jiff right over a little bit.
I said, we'll be here next Wednesday night.

Speaker 6 (01:54:26):
Thank you.

Speaker 12 (01:54:26):
Moves Gorye's and Orthopeda coat. The job comes off.
