and they take care of feeding ourcoaches. And we're gonna jump right
into the show. Southern Prep hasa arrived, ladies and gentlemen. First
up, coach, rolling ball coach. Good evening, Good evening, how
are you doing? I'm good man. Don't you introduce these two gentlemen with
you? You have tonight two ofyour coaches, even though people can't see

(01:30):
them. All right, Well,I've got a returning offensive coordinator Web Newman.
Okay, and good see you wellnew coach defensive coordinator and training Joseph
Well getting that something I was likeand the way they wrote it, Joseph
Webb, Web Newman. I'm like, all right, we're just gonna say,
well, we'll get right coaches.Good to have y'all here tonight.
Thank you? All right? Soeight man football? Did you play eleven

(01:53):
man football too? We played elevenlast week against I should have started with
that, so continue with your conversationthough. Uh, but we played eleven
man last week against Lakeside and let'sgo to the eight man game because it's
the first up for the region.Yes, sir, I'm gonna let my
offensive coordinator down here. Tell mewhat you guys gotta do this week,
coach, to get some points onthe board. So I mean to yeah,

(02:15):
get yeah, Well, we lookedat the film of Springwood. Uh,
they got bigger bodies than us onthe line. They both sides of
the ball as well, y'all don'tplay as many both ways, coach,
try not to try not to.You did that last, but they're trying
to tire them out, all right, coach, you want to throw in
that, maybe give you a twocents coach, Well, yeah, I

(02:35):
agree with I agree with that. We've got some new, very strong players
and if if we can just getthem to execute, well, I think
it's gonna be a very competitive game. First region games, very important,
yes, sir, playoff time right? Oh yeah, I mean we're we're
trying to host you know, andyou go back to eight man? How
give me two questions? One answerthis one first, how hard is it

(02:58):
to go but to eight from eleven? And the second question for us,
it's easy, That's what I thought, because you did it last year.
Right, we do it every year, Okay, I mean lately we've started
with eleven and then we've just it'sall eight the rest of the way.
We used to jump back and forthwith the season, right, so we
developed you know, the offense anddefense that we can easily do that.

(03:20):
So I mean we're looking at youknow, film on on springwood, both
sides of the ball. And theyhad a good win last week too,
they did they county over in Georgia. And uh, coach Burch is in
his second I called it his firstyear, although he had a heck of
a first year. He did.He jumped in there. It looks like
a week before they started it,it seemed like. But that's about what
it was. Yeah, he dida great job. But go ahead and'll

(03:42):
let you talk about him. Butyeah, I mean, coach Perch and
I you know, we're we're goodfriends and we we check up on each
other all the time. Yeah,I'm glad, you know so, I'm
even though you're you're good friends, you still try to you know, best
each other. Yeah, when thewhen, the when the when the kickoff
stars you're ready to go. Ohyeah, he's just sworn anty of me
at that point. Yeah, soyour team's got to improve a lot.

(04:04):
They do. Basically, we justhave to cut out our own simple mistakes,
which we have a lot of playersthat a week or two ago was
the first time that ever put padson. Two weeks you said before the
game your had and they really said, how mean you got before we go?
How many numbers? Well, wegot about twenty five players, but
that includes you know, pulling upsome JV guys and like I said,

(04:27):
we've got experience guys. We've onlygot really seven or eight and you know,
trying to fill them in. Butthere's still some talented guys who came
in. But it's the first timeputting pads on, so we're trying to
bring them along slowly. Probably don'treally have their right position. You may
not. You probably could still shuffleit off. Yeah, we're still trying
to quarterback. It's returning. Iremember handing them. Okay, and he

(04:53):
got first interceptions Friday night, sohe is playing both players. No,
he threw a first he threw itan interception, Well he did both.
Okay, he got one on defenseand he hanged one on off. Okay,
Well I didn't mean to bring upthat bad, but said, but
then also his brother not really hisbrother, but uh, they hang out
all the time. Another junior returninghad eleven receptions for one hundred and thirty

(05:16):
something yards on offense defense led withten tackles, a fumble recovery, and
two interceptions. He's a player,he's a kayler at home. We're at
home to night seven? What timeseven o'clock morning, guys. Good to
see y'all. Good. We'll seeall next week. Most a high school

(05:36):
coach suppersent about orthopedic couldn't have continues. We'll come back with Valley coach Adam
Hunter. Read Hey, welcome backto the high school coaching Show. It's

(06:00):
Jeff Sassorth coach Adam Hunter. Buton the Valley High School. How's it
going. I'm doing good. Howare you? I'm good? Wells it
been hot enough for you? Itell you it's been, you know,
seventeen years. This is my seventeenthyear, and it's been the hottest one
I can remember. You know, everybody, you know what. I've heard
that from a lot of people, and I and I you forget how hot
it was. I was looking atthe state records today and I'm gonna bring

(06:23):
this up before Mark gets backy backin here, and we're gonna talk about
Valley High and your first opponent,Hanley High School. How to rono the
uh The summer of nineteen eighty wasthe hottest one on record. He looked
this up, coach, did hefrom junior July eight percent of the state
was one hundred degrees The rest ofum morn of the Huntrell hear this.
He's bringing u Chelsea. This thissome best member of places like that.

(06:47):
The hottest date ever recorded in Alabamain recordable history was nineteen twenty five September
six, nineteen twenty five. He'sgot the daddy one hundred and twenty.
I tell you what that is.That awesome. I'm gonna go one above
you. I saw the other daythat this is the third time and I
think seventy five years that we've hadthis many consecutive days, one hundred plus.

(07:11):
He didn't. He goes that twothousand and seven, last time work
anymore? Right, That's right, that's right. Let's talk some ram football
coach, all right, because hebeen talking, well, you don't know,
that's part of what we big partof it this right, it is
you continue what you were saying, because you know, coach I told us
a long time ago, No,I ain't never made anybody when the fall

(07:31):
got here said man, that showit was a cold song. That comment.
It's so that's true, but that'strump I ain't had. Nobody is,
but I tell you that dangerously hotit is the first part of the
summer was cool. Yeah it was. It was cool last year we had
That's how I knowed it, allright, something new it let's not it.
That's good. English knew it allright. That's let's go back to
the Rams, coach uh Friday night. Handley. They're a very good team.

(07:56):
You've had some close games at theend the last couple of years.
Talk about playing Handley. Talk aboutyour team first, and we'll go into
handle. Okay. You know we'rereturning most of our front, uh up
front on both sides of the footballdefensively, so that's gonna be big for
us. You know, we gotCam Dooley back at quarterback that that runs
the offense. You know, wegotta stay healthy. Our depth is you
know, he's questionable. We've gotsome young guys behind them, but we've

(08:18):
got to stay healthy. That's gonnabe key for us this year. Uh
got some guys out in space thatwe think we can get the ball to
offensively and uh, you know, make some things happen. We've got some
kids that come back out that didn'tplay last year. Uh that's really stepped
up. So that's gonna help usout offensively. Uh. Running backs returning,
Tyland Carroll, he's uh, youknow, he's our workhorse. He's

(08:39):
got a motor, runs the ballhard. You know, he's he doesn't
have that breakaway speed, but heruns it hard. Uh and and that's
all we ask for him. Defensively, you know, we got all our
secondary guys back. We've got uhto replace our outside linebackers and inside linebackers.
But we've had kids step up.So that's gonna be the question for
us defensively, how well we playinside linebacker and outside linebacker. That's that's

(09:01):
gonna be key for us defensively. But everybody else is back, so you
know, we've got a we gota team that that that can be you
know, pretty good. We've gotto put it together, and we got
to put it together consecutively each week. Uh. You look at our schedule,
it's a tough one. So we'vegot to play it week by week,
uh and and get better every weekall three phases of the game.

(09:22):
So you know, we're looking forwardto it. Uh. I think our
kids are tired of beating up oneach other. You know, they're ready
to hit somebody else other than us. But we've we've we're gonna be facing
a good team, really good team. Did y'all start a week early?
We didn't. Y'all didn't have aspring, so we didn't. Okay,
we uh we had. We tookthe week early. We scrimmaged ourselves last
week. We couldn't find anybody scrimmage, so we just set it up the

(09:45):
best we could to scrimmage ourselves alittle bit to to get all the game
management down, rolling on and off, you know, subs and and and
special teams and getting those as liveas possible. Last year, you had
uh young man hurt. Was ityour quarterback or running back? Uh?
Cam got beat. He got bangedup by halfway through the season, and
we didn't get him back after weekfive, Week six, we didn't get

(10:07):
him back to the last game ofthe season. Yeah, he was.
We had a couple of those.Yeah, we had maybe more than a
couple. Yeah, by the endof the year. Uh, end of
the season, we had about fivestarts up and had been Russell. So
maybe last year, I hope,so hope. So we got we got
to take care of kids and uh, you know, we we hope we
stay healthy. It was a coupleand I don't want it. This sounds

(10:28):
so bad, but you have realissues in your special teams last year.
We did be better this year, you know, you hope, so you
know, and you talked to boys. It was a topic conversation every time.
You know. It wasn't because wedidn't do it. You know,
we repped it, repped it,repped it and and things just went sour.
Uh for a lot of our specialteams. One time it'd be the

(10:48):
snapper on punt, the next timeit'd be the punter dropping it. That
was the case at Handley. Soyou know, we got as sure those
things up. But we got anotheryoung guy. They're stepping up into the
snapping role. So you know,we're replacing a guy that they graduating with
a young guy. So we hopefully, you know, he can step up
and do it for us, andyou know, it's just gonna be a
question how good we are at thatwhen we get under the lights from how

(11:11):
do you find somebody to do that? Just we have a tryout in the
summer, you know, we askanybody who can do it, you know,
and if we have any guys fromthe previous year, and of course
you know we know those guys, but we try to get anybody that may
have slipped through the crack to doit, and try and find somebody.
You know, kids don't get outlike they used to. They don't get

(11:31):
out and kick the ball and snapit and all that kind of stuff like
I used to you. All right, I commend you for doing it.
I need a baseball coach and madehim all pitch at one time. That's
what they could throw it every nightthe tenth grade. We're talking about a
round football Adam Hunter with us.You're listening to Coaches Show from Moles presented
by Orthopedic Clinic. Home games.Huge for you. We need a big
crowd at Round Stadium, that's right. Yeah, And you know our community
sports on football team problem greatly so, and you know it'd be a good

(11:54):
gate. It'll be good for bothsides. You know. Right down the
road, Handley has been a rivalrygame in the past two twenty. Last
year was it Overtimer rigor Rick?It was regular. Yeah, it's a
close game. Coach is always goodto see you. Good see y'all.
Our battle rams games on our sisterstation one hundred point nine to Bull every
Friday. You don't play any Thursday. So every Adam Hunter in the round
right there from Mole's Barbecue, Coachesshoppers in about the Orthopedic Clinic, Keith

(12:16):
Ethridge Aulburd High School, and wecome back just like being on the mark

(12:43):

we appreciate the Orthopedic and Moles andall our other sponsors. Coach has there's

(13:05):
going to see you, and she'sover at femin Us. You have to
speak to her. She let metake it. They're trying to find the
ball now it's so high, right, absolute, coach, you got a
long trip Friday night, two hoursto the met in Hoover. Absolutely,
baseball field turn football there, that'swhat. That's one place I've never played

(13:28):
really, never coached there. Idon't think you're gonna like it, coach.
It's it's so weird. What youprobably won't mind if I played into
some games, Yeah, because you'llbe on the side where you're the It's
just weird, isn't it. Ya. It's just a different It was different
for us. We were broadcasting differentgo ahead, yeah, you know.
Uh for the fans, they're rightthere on it. Your fans, Allbra
fans will be right there, Abramfans will be Yeah. I guess Hoover's
gotten used to it. Yeah,But whoever says announced just too like they're

(13:50):
there. Yeah, when we wereat the time, hard to see numbers.
You're a long way away from thefield. But anyway, you're gonna
play Hoover Friday night and you beathim. In the Championship champions Challenge a
year ago, last second field goalTowns Magoo nailed it through and uh,
I was fortunate enough to call thatgame on TV and had a good time.
And uh so Friday night, Hoover, let's talk about your team first,
coach, give us a little rundown. I know you did on the

(14:11):
Mark. There's morning, different show, different time. Absolutely, they got
a good group of guys. Youknow, a lot of young guys,
a lot of juniors that'll be playinga good bit, will be their first
varsity start. You know, gotsome veterans, got in Nation will be
back at wide receiver. Got youknow, uh Jaalen Foster will be you
know back, he's who's offensive linemancenter. It started four teen games last

(14:35):
year for US. Uh you know, got Flakes played a lot at running
back last year. He got alittle history lesson on his father's this morning.
Oh yeah from Wilson. He's ahe you know, he's a really
really good running back Omar Maps andthe tenth grader, he's already got a
UAB offer running back. You know, we got just some really good,
really good kids. And they're they'vethey've gotten a lot bigger, faster,

(14:58):
stronger over the over the summer. And you know, I'm ready to see
them with the pads on and go. You know, they're ready to hit
somebody else tired of hitting each other. What is it? You had forty
eight? Let me senior, goodone. That's a huge number. Car,
Yeah, that's that's it. Wehad forty graduate my first year,
I think forty one last year.So you know, it's one of them

(15:20):
things where you sort of got toget used today as you're gonna be at
a school with our size, youknow, you're gonna have forty forty five
kids graduate, So we're just gonnayou know, hopefully, you know,
replace those guys, and you know, some guys are tough for place.
You got Mark Colin's, you know, Clark Cleveland's, uh, you know,

(15:41):
I mean Graham Graham, Young Graham. Uh uh just there's I mean,
I can't were you two linebackers? Were they? Yeah? Yeah,
bah yeah both of those Both ofthose kids are are playing college while right
now. Yeah, you know,so Pittman forgot about him. Yeah,
I ain't forgot about he ain't.But we have fly. Clyde was solid,

(16:06):
you know, and then Davis movedback to Idaho. But Jackson is
coming and done an amazing job.You know, he's gonna he's gonna have
a great year this year. Uh. We We've got a deep group at
receiver. You know, we've gotsome really good players out there. I
think that they're doing a really goodjob. We got a good mix of
older guys and some really some reallygood young guys who who you'll see play,

(16:29):
you know, Friday night. We'llsee some of those tenth graders that
you know, we've got some guyswith some really good speed that can run
and catch, catch, and youknow, I think that, uh,
that's gonna be huge for us Friday. And I know they're good. They're
good in the secondary. They're reallygood, you know, at receiver themselves.
They got two or three guys toplay quarterback. The Jameis Winston's little

(16:49):
brothers are really good athlete plays forhim. So they'll be good upfront.
Uh. The Shaw kids as goodas any linebacker I've seen a long time.
Uh, So they're gonna be reallygood and really well coached. Wade
does an awesome job, you know, got a lot of respect for him,
and he's got staff. I knowa lot of his coaches, you
know, and they're great guys. You know. I was good friends with

(17:11):
Andy Irvin, who was athletic directthere who's now a Mountain Brook. You
know, I forgot about coach Meand Andy coach together when I first I
forgot he's at Mountain Yeah, goahead, yep, me and Andy coach
together Erwin High School. How aboutour first job? We remember we coached
junior high football when I was aheadlast time coach. Yeah, when has
two thousand and one through two thousandand four when I was twenty two years

(17:33):
ago. Unbelievable, I got,I got twenty four years and baby,
I got one more. We talkedabout of kicker towns, about towns back
hunt to be. He'll be areally good weapon for us this year.
We actually did a free kick theother day from the fifty, So see
makes you a free kid. Yeah, I love it. You're gonna do
some of that this year. Yeah, we talked about end the game and

(17:56):
a half. You said that therewas some of that, you know,
really really good. Uh. TylerMcKinnon, our punter's back. Uh.
He also plays tight end, youknow, Griffin McLean or tight end who's
got offers and Sanford and Austin,Pe and some of those places. Uh,
you know, we've got defront deucesback. He'll be one of our
captains Friday night. Really good player, really good interior kid. We've got

(18:21):
uh Pitts, who's our defensive inn. He had three sacks in the spring
game. Really good player. He'sgot some some D one offers. Who's
who's junior this year? Uh,you know, we've got a lot of
guys Codell Gibbey. Uh, youknow all all guys who are who are
great players, and they're good, good kids and loved to coach those kind

(18:41):
of kids, man, And youknow, win or lose, you know
you're gonna get everything they got.Yeah, it'll be at to Hoover met
Friday, seven o'clock. Coach isalways good to see it. Thanks for
your time. All right, let'ssee yus, Sir, Auburn High Coach
Keith Enters. Coaches Show continues. We'll be right back good Russell County.
Dylan Griggs, Welcome back to modsBarbecue High School Coaches Show, presented by

(19:11):
the Orthopedic Clinic every Wednesday night.Tonight's our first night. Glad to have
you tuned in with us, dMark, Jeff Jason and band all here
in the house on the Verenda whereit's about one hundred and ninety out here.
No it's not really. We're inshade. It's hot, all right,
Dylan Grig It ain't that hot comparedto when you're out on the vell.
How you doing, Coach Greege,I'm just happy to be here,
guys. Glad we are too, coach glad to see Russell County Warriors.

(19:36):
What's going on in Seal, Alabama? Coach Uh? You know, it's
been an exciting off season. Weuh in the process. We got about
another million dollars with the upgrades tothe stadium done. And you don't have
that thing looking like Jordan her andbright and any trying. I'm trying,
I promise you, I'm throwing thebook at it. You have. You
know, we kind of we kindof changed a lot with our program,
kind of upped our conditioning program alittle bit more and and added what we

(19:57):
call a fifth quarter. And youknow, this year we've got about sixteen
sophomores or junior starting. Really excitedabout this young group we got. We
got two seniors starting on the offensiveside and about three on the defensive side.
And you know, just a good, young, feisty group. You
know, I'd never have to fussabout effort anymore. You know, get

(20:17):
into year three, and that's beena really nice thing. You know,
just thinking about that when you satdown it was year three. Yeah,
well you know say it, butI was thinking about, well, you
know, to teach them how topractice, you know, and we're finally
really getting there where they understand whatthe daily grind is like. And so
it's just it's been a great startto the to the off season. In
the season year three, you've madea lot of progress, certainly with the

(20:40):
program and the stadium. Give usyou look on this year kind of you
talked about your young kid. It'sa little breakdown on your offense versus your
defense. You know, I feelyou know, on the offensive line where
you turned four out of five guys. You know, I feel like it's
the best group I've had since I'vebeen here. Robert Calhoun or quarterback,
he's playing like a four year starter. Looks really good. Our running back

(21:00):
group is as good as any groupI've had. You know, we still
got Kelston Tarbor. He'll be asophomore. He picked up four D one
offers during the off season. Sayhe's got some idn't realized he was a
sophomore. Yeah, with a lefttackle as also a sophomore. He's got
five you know, our receiving corpsDenver, Harper and Megatron and PG.
What's Megatron's name? Uh Burnett.Okay, he is unbelievable. He's a

(21:23):
good kid. You know. Ithink right now at a receiving corps is
starting three sophomores and one junior onthe defensive side. We we're only playing
one senior on the defensive line. All the rest of them are sophomores.
Didn't his coach experience juniors? Yeah, but you know, like my thing
is is they just they've been playingball their whole life, you know.
And and and I kind of saidthis that thing. You know, we're
at a point now where we've gotkids who have been playing football and their

(21:45):
whole lives again, you know. And so there's some football IQ and you
know, and in our region, you know, everybody's really young this season.
You know, everybody lost a lotlast year. So you know,
I'm really excited. I think we'vegot a shot to make the playoffs.
You know, we're we're gonna dreamlike we're gonna win the state championship every
day and until the Good Lord tellsus we can't. We'll revamp and and
and do another dream at that point. Russell County at Harris County. Timmy

(22:11):
about Tim and what you're looking at, it's really physical, you know,
big up front. They're just reallyphysical. You know. I'm I'm thinking
they're gonna try to just kind oflean on us all night and get three
yards in the clouded us and keepour offense off. You know, we
played Chilton County last week and scoretwenty eight points and a half, and
uh, you know, I thinkthe key for them is to keep our
offense off the field. They keepfor us is to keep our offense on

(22:33):
the field, you know. Andthat's just kind of where I'm at with
But I don't know that I've seena more physical team since I was at
Penson than what I'm seeing on thefield with him. I mean, even
their scores are not indicative of howphysical they are up front. You know,
their head coach was the line coachat UH at Loungs for twenty years,
was the O line coaching often statechampionships, and you can tell that

(22:53):
he very much is coaching that offensiveline. They're just big and nasty,
and so you know we gotta comeout. We gotta be gaps round.
We got to get their offense offthe field. Now, going two Harris
County Open and then Stan Hope. You've got three region games in a row.
You've talked about all all your players, how many you got going on
both sides? Where are you justcompletely going one way? Uh? We've
got some guys who have the whocan go two ways, about four of

(23:15):
them. Other than that, it'sall just one way. So you will
play four both fats Sometimes sometimes itjust depends on some kickers and your punter,
your special teams are they're gooding overall of it tonight you know one
hundred power or our special teams coordinator, he's been killing it and we're Adrian
Wally. You know he's a goodyoung kicker. But I'll be honest with
you, might have the best legI've ever He's got the potential. I

(23:37):
have the best leg I've probably everbeen around since that kid that signed at
Duke at Prattel and then our punterJaden Walters. You know, he was
a receiver that turned into a punter. He's doing a heck of a job,
has a heck of a hanging timeand that's good. That gets your
defense down there, your coverage.I think you know, last year we
lost a game on special teams, and I think the kids really truly understand
now at this point, like it'sa three phase football game. We can't

(24:00):
just worry about offense or defense. We have to take special teams very series.
There you go, you go onthe road. We talked about your
youth. That's a big game foryou, and then you need to come
back and as they say, fromweek one to two, make your best
chance. The best thing is wegot a buy week between Harris That's what
I'm saying, So, like youknow, we're gonna get a chance to
heal and get two weeks prepared forwhat to me is the most important region

(24:22):
game of the year. The firstone. Understand them tell me about this
real quick before we go. Uhsame start time eight o'clock Eastern seventh century.
That's seven thirty in Harris County becausethey kick off in Georgia. But
but yes, at our house,it will be at the clock. Each
show you go, Thank you, coach christ see you. Russell A County's

Creek taking care of another edition ofthe Coaches Show. And we appreciate forth
Pette Clinic. We're making it possibleon the air and all they do it
or Pete Clinic, and we appreciateall those folks. The Beulah bodcasts are

(25:25):
in the house and Coach Johnson knowsabout the O Pete Clinic. How you
doing, Coach Johnson doing good withPete Clinton. Good folks, aren't they
great? Great people? Yes?They all. How's everything in Uga Land?
It's going good? Everybody ever. It's warm, oh the coach that's
good. Yeah, man, it'swarm out of here it is. I'm
sitting here gon hid in the world, y'all do which was a weird day.
We had fun doing it. Well, yeah, and you know,

(25:45):
I see some of'em with theshorts and the shirt shorts and then Coach
Greed comes up here with a longsleep shore. I'm like, man,
look Yeah, he looks sharp. He's gotta be dying. And I'm kidding.
I'm like you you know you're hot. All right, tell us about
ula, tell me you got yougot some positive waves going coach when we
interviewed, you felt good. Ohyeah, yeah. We Uh we opened

(26:06):
our life. Yeah, we openedup with Woodland. Uh. Last week
had a jamboree and uh played playedreally well. Uh pleased with that.
We got a lot of a lotof guys to play. Young guys play,
which is good. So uh wegot a lot to a lot of
progress with that out to build on. You know, we wanted to play
that so we can gonna you know, get the nerves out of us,

(26:26):
any mistakes, any corrects, bigcorrections were going and knocked that out and
we did so. Uh. Iwas pleased with with with how we handled
uh, different scenarios and you know, we got the got a lot of
depth that got to play and uh, you know he was able to handle
the weather and trying to get themacclimated and so it went well. And

(26:48):
you know, we just gotta keepon doing what we're doing. And we
got Abbyville this week. Build mea tough opponent. They're big string the
big they're they're fast and uh weplayed O. We're gonna be are we
got everybody healthy, We're gonna wegonna have a chance. Okay, we're
talking to view with football. Thecoach Matthew Johnson, his team opens up
on the road at Abbeyville Friday night. You talked about your team a little

(27:10):
bit. I'm gonna ask the samequestion. How many do you have going
both ways? Coach, because that'simportant this time of years. Yeah,
well we got we got uh youknow, we got about four or five
going both ways. We have Noweverybody will go both ways eventually, but
just starting off, what's good isthat we have two platoons with our offensive
line or defensive line. We getthose guys off the field. Skill.
Guys hand a little a little bitbetter when they can if they do go

(27:32):
both ways, they can handle alittle bit better. So but yeah,
we got about four or five guysthat's gonna have to have to go back
and forth. Uh, but wedo have depth so we can get them
off getting a break. And that'swhat helped out last week. We were
we were rotating in offensive lineman, which don't see a whole lot is good.
Uh So we don't. You know, every three or four plays we
get a new guard in there ornew new tackle and uh, gimme's playing
time. You uh, you startthat, you start giving that's that could

(27:56):
be a minute, in two minutes, you know what I'm talking about.
Three minutes, could go buy ina car. Plays that's right, and
that you know on fourth quarter thatadds up and uh, you got him
in the fourth quarter, you know, with your conditioning and just being in
shape. But you're gonna have achance of fish with the weather. Now.
I know we're talking about that thatseems to be tall. Yeah,

(28:18):
everybody talks about it, and it'sand it's it's not it's nothing, you
know, not an excution or anything. But you got to find that balance.
And you gotta find the balance ofof acclimating these kids and being tough
with them. Is they're gonna playin it. But at the same time,
you gotta be smart to be safe, right because that we've we've seen
one fall personal story that's exactly right, that's right, and so that happened.

(28:40):
But he's good to go. Butyou know when that's that's that's real
life stuff. And to look atmom and dad and I and say,
you know, we went too farwith him. That's tough. So we
we're gonna be We're gonna air onside of caution. But it's a tough
balance. You know. Is therea certain body type that you have to
kind of pay attention to coach whenyou're looking at this heat? Uh?
You know, now you know thelean guys are more subject to have cramp.

(29:00):
That's right, That's right. Andyou know yeah, I mean you
know your oline guys are gonna theygonna they suffer a little bit more.
We've we've seen. But I meanjust you just got going there and and
acclimate them the best you can.And you may have some you know with
you know, may may have acode or something you have to watch out
for, or you know, someethical history of some guys, you know,
not taking out a history mesty theytake medicine or in haler you know,

(29:23):
and asthma that has a big cardin it. So that's a lot
of kids that have that weighing inand that we do. We do we
weighing in, weigh them out andwhat's the most you've seen them lose six
pounds six pounds in a practice?Yeah, but they'll get it back up.
We train or shot. No,I'm should we sit there and make
them drink water? That's right. We go, you know, we go
to our practice. I mean likeeverybody else does. But you know,

(29:45):
when you're going hard and you're doingwhat you're supposed to do, you're gonna
lose some moody. But we doa good job of Our trainer does a
really good job painting Bradford. Shedoes a great job of. Uh,
get our guys ready to go thenext day. Very important, no doubt
about a few of the bobcasts goingon the road. Getting to start fresh
on the road. That's tough. It is. Kick off, it's still
seven seven o'clock. Is it anythingelse you want to say for? We

(30:07):
go. Thank y'all for what y'alldo. It's great to be back.
It's great to have a high schoolfootball back. They want to come talk.
I know, he off, heeats and takes off, leaves me
along, all right, that's fine. Always good to see you. Appreciate
you. Matthew Johnson in the house, Red Live at Moles Barbecue, Bent
Creek coach Buster Daniel at least gotacademy when we come back. Very welcome,

(30:53):
back to most barbecue High school coachis so presented by the Orthopede Clinic.
We're live outside where so on hundreddegrees Not really, but it's very
hot. D Mark, Jeff,Jason, and Van were appreciate most barbecue.
We'll also appreciate God's Pette clinic. They're making this show costeble and certainly
most barbecues. Were taking care ofa bunch of coaches. We're gonna have
about fifteen before the night's over.It is time to go to uh uh,

(31:15):
we're gonna go to Judge scott Field, kind of fictitiously bringing coach Buster
Daniel. His team got to winlast week at Judge scott Field fourteen seven
over Chambers. Coach Buster goodn't seeyou, and I'll let you introduce I
call him pilot, but I'll letyou introduce young man to you with it.
Absolutely see you. Good to behere. You and Jeff and uh
yes, sir, good b aMoles again. All was great food here,

(31:37):
but uh we got a senior heretonight, Myles Zachary. Uh.
Myles has been with me the wholetime I've been there. Played started I
think all four years now. Sohe and JJ and JJ and then uh,
I think roll later later how manyas seniors? Says, just that's
three. It's three, but Ithink he maybe those three. But yeah,
he's been the whole time. Goodplayer, but even better young man.

(32:00):
Miles. Good to have you, sir, Thanks for having me.
Yeah, you got you in openingplay? How did that feel? Opening
play of the game? How farwas you take it? Eighty seven?
Think I heard eighty four? Isaid I gave eighty seven. I wouldn't
sure eighty seven on the morning,I mean on the Coach show, I
gave you seventy five. But anyway, oh, come on coach all right,
So Miles gives Miles right, allright, I'm gonna call you about

(32:21):
your right name because Jeff always getus on nick name. So you called
it? And what were you thinking? Well, first off, we already
talked about how I'm really not supposedto catch that ball time out? What
are you supposed to do? I'mnot supposed to take any steps back.
I'm really good to return, man, I'm the fullback. So it looked
pretty good. It looked like Iwasn't gonna have to have to take a
step back. But I kind ofhad to keep going, and I committed
to it. So I grabbed it, and I grabbed it, and uh,

(32:45):
I don't have it. I likedthat. I wouldn't have I wouldn't
have ever told you anybody would haveran the first one back, and I
sure wouldn't have told you it wouldhave been me. So it, I
mean, a great way to start. See you just you took it,
and I just I kind of Ikind of slowed down for a second.
I think I made one big andI had smoke and field and I just
was running as hard as I could. You got some good blocks, you
made a good run. We're gonnasay eighty seven to make it work,

(33:07):
all right. So after that,y'all go ahead, and and you had
another beat. What was the secondtouchdown? Coach with pastor Jake, Yeah,
yeah it was. It was asecond. And then they scored late
right, yes, late late inthe game. So I'll let you tell
me, and then we'll go tocoach Dan and tell me what you thought
about the game. Miles as awhole, as a player, Well,

(33:28):
I think it's always good, uhto get a win. I think we
had to fight for it. Ithink it was as uh pretty as we
wanted it to be. It wasn'tour best performance by any means. We
got a lot of work to do, but uh, at the end of
the day, we'll take it anywaywe can get. You got a win,
sir, There you go. Iliked it. And for folks,
that on other Miles is our newpilot for our heart rail because you can
fly out right, because even flyingmiles about four years now, and believe

(33:52):
can you fly jets? I cannotfly jets. I kind of just fly
myself around, so real, Yes, sir, have you flown him?
Coach? I have not plowing coaching. I've asked him. He said he
could set it up. He's onmy list, though. Let you kick
and he let you go back outthere. He had to get him.
He hadn't bust busted me for backingup one. I guess all right,
coach, we'll let you talk.A good job. Still, let you

(34:14):
talks. You got two younger brothersright, yes, there, Brooks and
Colton bringing it to the game.My wife talked the two younger ones.
Okay, he had a little insideand both of them are also players,
all right. Brooks is on JVand plays with us a little bit.
On Friday nights and then uh,how old on its ninth grader and co
sixth grade. Okay, I thoughtwe were talking about Colden plays them with

(34:36):
the peeweees, so they both playsthe senior ninth grader in the sixth grade.
I was younger brothers. Well,I was thinking like young like I
wouldn't think you said your wife.I was thinking that a's But anyway,
all right, coach, so I'lllet you talk a little bit about the
win and then we'll go into it. Said it was a it was a
it was a win. It wasn'ta pretty win. I think we played
about as bad as we could andwin. We were very fortunate. We

(34:58):
played a pretty good football team. They also made mistakes. I mean it's
the first game. Uh, alot of penalties both ways. Stuff.
We've both cleaned up and get better. But like I said, at the
end of the day, uh,bad wins are better the loss. So,
uh, we have got a lotof things we can work on,
which we've done this week and uhso, I mean it's it's it's a
positive to get the win. Andagain, like I said, we were

(35:20):
very fortunate. Oh, there's nodoubt, coach. Let me say this
though, that's twenty twenty one ortwenty one twenty two wins. I know
it doesn't matter to you, butthat's that's real good for your program to
win that many won twelve in arow. Last year. You you won
more, you know the year before. Now you you started off the season
with a win. You got anopen week this week, tell us a
bit of what you've gone through, and then we go into next week with
another game at home. Yeah,I gave you no open weeks. It's

(35:43):
bad to have, really, inmy opinion, when you have open week
a second week of the year.Uh, but it gives us time to
get a couple of bruise guys anduh a little a little banged up stuff
we get it fixed. Uh andand and more than anything, work on
Lea scot No. We uh,like I said, we made a bunch
of mistakes the other night on bothsides of the ball. Uh, so
we can we can get that stuffleared up before the next game. But
we've Uh. We practiced three daysthis week. We practiced Tuesday afternoon,

(36:07):
which was like being in the oven. We went this morning at six.
Yeah, I saw young men aboutfive o'clock yes, sir j J.
Why are you up at five?I realize they know they gotta be a
practice. Hitted your way across thefront. I was like, what in
the world as I doing at fiveo'clock? But we got a gottle practice
in this morning. You'll just bitsabout an hour and you know, fixed
a few things we need to workon. And we're going again in the

(36:28):
morning at six and uh, andI'll give him all Friday and we go
watch some games. But but we'lluh, we'll get to work a little
bit tomorrow for Monrow, but definitelyMonday we'll go straight to Monrow and uh
and get to working on them. But we've been working on LEAs Scott this
week. I understand that Buster DanielMiles zachy wis we're talking to Lea Scott
Academy one and oh open this weekMonro Academy. You talked a little bit
about. I was just checking theseat. They don't know they lost their

(36:49):
first Sparta Academy so they played thisweek so torn night. Yeah, are
you checking that out or you gotso much media you're not going out.
That's a little far. That's toofar at is third? Yeah, Evergreens
was about these early press You likethat or no, I definitely like that.
I have no problem with the earlypractice schools out Lea or I mean

(37:10):
there is there anything. Okay,we lift weights, Oh, I'd like
it to ye, smile it up. When he's all Friday, I had
everybody there on time. I mean, myles, well, if you want
to play on Friday, you're thereon this time. Man, he's got
he's been with you for a while. That's right. I think we know
how coach Daniels operates now, soif you don't want to play, you're
gonna be there. Y'all improved thisweek we did. We worked on Lea

(37:30):
Scott just like you said, andI think we've gotten better. And coach
did you programming? I don't.I don't have to coach young. I
just show up on Friday practice.Came in just green in ere to year.
Yeah, I like to not reconnized. I came back and say week
one of the week two. Ofcourse it would be week three, that's
what get next week. He'd bebetter. But when he said he was

(37:52):
off, the more he lit aFriday Friday. Yeah, we go practice
in the morning, they go inthe afternoon. They got you know,
kids have to be kids sometimes homework, they gotta do other films.
We gotta do other things. Right, I'll be out fine, we see
there, I say. I'll tellyou that we were on block scheduling like
a lot of schools are. Ipractice every morning, Yeah, because that's
the best practice. Teams doing that, Coach, Okay, one more doing

(38:12):
and this week's been good at itin the morning. It's been so hot.
Y'all have periods, don't y'all totalk about that. I mean it's
six seven seven, Okay, Miles, good to see you, But I
tell you what, we had agood night though. I mean it was
it was hot, but it wasn'tnothing like. I didn't break a sweat
and I was I was in Warrior. Good to see both of you guys.
Yes, their coach Daniel, We'llbe back you too. We'll be
back Davel High School or from theCoaches Show Live from Mole's presented by the

(38:35):
Orthopedia Clinton got it, Hey,welcome back to the High School Coaches Show.

(38:55):
We're coming to you live from Mole'sOriginal Barbecue and No sponsored by Moles
and the Orthopedic Clinic. What youlistened to us on Fox Fox Sports The
Game nineteen thirteen teen A year tothe next coach is coach Roger McDonald from
Daval High School. Man, youmay look man, he may change us.
You may change us all over thestate. And he calls major changes.

(39:17):
Well though the change the change Iwanted to make, they didn't make,
which was why why I thought theyshould have gave us an option if
we didn't really get sated to movethe you said not to play if you
didn't. Yeah, because each schoolis different, so I get you can't
make up, but I think theyshould have gave us an option. But

(39:37):
anyway, we've been trying to makethe best out of it. But you
know, I continue to follow thoseguidelines to the tea so you know,
we're out there for one hour inshorts and a helmet. So you sent
me the forecast last night? Wasit one o? Yeah? What was
it? One one O seven?Yeah, one O seven? That he
didn't eat it yet? And whattime was it? It wouldn't actually seven

(40:00):
o'clock? Was it at seven?I was thinking it was like, oh,
yeah it was. I think itwas a little after it and alert
alert for heat tread. I readthat and I was like, Wow.
But what we're talking about is coachMcDonald call on the mark and he was
talking about the extreme heat conditions andthe guidelines, and he was talking about
that you're not able to practice long, but they expect you to play long.
And then they came back that morning. Later that morning and issues the

(40:22):
HSA did said Hey, we're gonnamove back games back if you want to.
And kind of don't believe I didthat. You had a little bit
of it. Well, the thingabout it is we looked at that if
we move it back from seven tonine up there in silicogue, it's two
degrees different. Well yeah, real, they're trying the everything they do what

(40:44):
they gotta do there you go.Uh. And the option was each each
team could you could forfeit or youcould uh cancel your game. And it
was a discussion that we actually hadwith me becomber. Uh. But as
a as of right now, thegame is owned and we'd let you know
to play. I just like allthose other coaches been told me. I

(41:07):
just everybody's praying everything goes okay. That's all you know, That's what we're
went. Yeah, you're right aboutthat. I told we told our kids
again today we said, you know, we're not prepared. We're making no
bones about it. We're not physicallyprepared, schematically prepared because of following the
guidelines and the recommendations, which I'mall for. I'm I believe them because

(41:30):
I think you need to keep thekids safe first. But we told the
kids, he said, you know, you know, we're not where we
should be acclamation wise or schematic wise. So we just got to do the
best we can do. And thenthe heat's supposed to break next week,
and we got an open date beforeour first region game, and we'll we'll
get back to going out there scrimmagingevery day and and hitting every day,

(41:52):
you know us, and doing whatwe're supposed to do. And our kids
know, they're like, this isnot what we did. I mean,
what would you compare it to though? Coaches? Yes, I mean at
the point is is this like, are you more prepared in the spring than
you offer for a spring game ifyou had spring practice and then you offer
the this opening game. I No, I don't think so, because you

(42:14):
could practice and padge in the spring. The problem is what we're talking about
down there. While to go differbetween the big sid the little schools.
And you know, I've always beenin a big school before I went to
David. You you got ones, twos, even some threes. Your drills
are not as long. You guysare rotating. When when when you're at
a smaller school, like we're gonnaplay between fifteen eighteen kids and and that's

(42:37):
what's scary. That's the point thatyou've made. That was so good,
Coach about the number of yeah, the small skills. You made a great
point, period, but even morewith the number of yeah, as you
go down in the size, thenumber and that's what have to play.
And that's what worries there, likeis and like nobody's nobody's mad at the
high school social No, No,I didn't think you were mad. You

(42:57):
were just making a point. We'regetting calls everybody, I mean, coaches
everywhere the time. Yeah, they'rescared. They're scared for the kids,
and rightfully so. Uh but youknow I told our kids, and my
coach Foster, my defensive coordinating he'sbeen there his whole life. He told
him the same thing, because you'reyou're our children. We're gonna take care
of y'all. First, When tolose a football game, we're taking care

(43:22):
of y'all. You know, whenwhen this breaks and we can get back
to coaching you the way we likethe coaching, we will, but you
know, and our kids understand. And but I'll tell you this. They
get out there and you know,if we got an hour on the on
the clock, they do what theyneed to and we water them down,
we send them back in in ourconditioners. Sometimes I've never made so many

(43:43):
adjustments to practice in my life. And I mean it is constantly, and
uh, I'm sure you're doing itright. And it's as small as we
are. Like I was talking toainking them about Locha Polka that care even
very even smaller and uh, youknow that's that's worse than us. They're
smaller than us. They got harderthan we did. And uh, but

(44:04):
you know, get into the gamebb Comber. Uh, they got a
really good football team. They uhgot beat in the finals last year.
You know, we beat them lastyear pretty good. But I had nineteen
seniors that are gone. We're gonnabe really young. And but our kids
have played hard. We had agood scrimmage against Lynnette, Uh, and
we felt good about about what wedid. And that West last week.

(44:25):
Yeah, we played how that wewent good. We played one quarter uh
and then we had like ten playsthey had ten and Fotland. We let
the young kids go out there souh because of the heat. But we
felt real good about what we did, and I'm sure Lynette felt good about
what they you know it was.It was real good. We worked together
instead of making it gamel. Sothat being said, we just we just

(44:47):
got to go play and just likeI said, who the best we can
pray nothing happens and come back nextweek when the heat breaks and get back
going right. Let me do this. Your number of players you got out
there, we have about fifty three. That's nine through twenty nine. I
was gonna say, that's all right, So how many you got going both
both ways? And if you wereto start, we'll have about eight kids

(45:07):
that will play ninety percent of thesnaps. So you've got sixteen players.
Eight play eight players play sixteen positionsjust about most of the game. And
we may have a guys, Iunderstand it can give us five reps a
game, five snaps. He gotit, but most of unbelievable. Now

(45:28):
it's unbelievad. Now you got yougraduated a big class at nine teens players.
Right. Oh you know we startednine seniors on day I was thinking
about and the first two that rotatedon defensive line, we're seniors. So
we graduated a bunch of kids.We got two returning starters on defense,
uh, four on offense. Sothat's what we got back. Now you
may have mentioned this, What aboutyour quarterback? Is that's Jay Burns.

(45:51):
I talked about it earlier. We'vemoved to him and that's right to the
Okay, he played running back andmoved him quarterback. We have Cam Hurd
who's always been at quarterbacks. Soboth of them start on defense. One's
the free safety, ones the linebacker. So we just said I'm both going
to play quarterback. Want of themdo something better than the other one,
You would say, hey, thisone's better than They're both pretty they're both
pretty equal and talent. Uh.I mean Jay is Jay six foot one,

(46:15):
one hundred and ninety five twenty fives. I may so. Yeah,
he's a big, strong kid.Uh when he runs the ball, Uh,
he gives you that and uh butCam Cam runs the ball. He's
quick on his feet. And thebig thing is they just give us some
depth so they don't have to comeout fell on defense. I mean they
just rotated quarterbacks. What's this becauseKim uh Kim will be about about five

(46:37):
eight, uh probably about one fiftyfive one sixty. But he's smart kid.
He can run the offense and dowhat we need. Uh And we
got about three groups of backs wererolling down and we have three backs in
the backfield. You know, soyou ain't you're not spreading out all over
the field now, I well,I had two wide outs they could go

(46:57):
get it, yea kid, andI had quarterback you know, the six
foot one throw up. It's abig thing with those two five hours.
Uh so no, everybody know wedon't have those man two all state track
stars, track state champions graduating,so they can't replace you. To talk
to you, all right, Mark, Coach You Show continues with Lynette from
Most barbecuepers in the Brother with PeterClinton. Welcome back to the high High

(47:30):
School Coach You Show. We're lyingfrom Most Original Barbecue right here on Fox
Force The Game nineteen thirteen ten broughtto you by Most Barbecue. What's Peter
Clinic? That band? Something else? Go ahead? Yeah, well I
mean you uh next up on thathigh school. Yes, Sir, coach
coach Chip segal Man first first timefor the yeah we we mystery mystery coach,

(47:52):
mister miss coach siegal first to holdon the you have I was trying
to you were back at Lynette? How long ago? From O nine to
nineteen O nine to nineteen. Iretired after the eighteenth season, but stayed
on working part time, just coaching. Pandemic struck twenty in twenty and that's

(48:15):
when I was offered a job inGeorgia. And I went to Georgia for
three years. Okay, I couldnot I could not remember that I never
should have left. Never what Inever should have left Linette? Oh the
first time? Yeah, and you'venever coached these any of these young men
have because the seniors were in eighthgrade. Yeah wow, so they were
aware of me, but they did. I had no clue who who they

(48:37):
were. I mean, they werejust little junior high kids running around getting
in the way. Well, butthey ain't little anymore, hidamdi out of
fact, most for our offensive linewas probably in sixth grade, weren't they
They're six fourth? How many yearsyou've been there? Now? My second
year sick, I was just thinking, yeah, because you were at Smith's.
Yeah, because but he has anold soul. He's as old as

(48:57):
me on the inside. Oh yeah, that's the fact. Yeah, he's
been around now who all who what? All all the coaches you got,
who's still left? He's still everybodystaff, it's same staff. Plus we
were able to hire coach Kitchens backlong time Lynette fans will remember him as
our defensive line coach. And uhhe has been coaching college ball and UH

(49:20):
six a ball and he wanted tocome home too. He is. He
was he there with ye he wasthere on the seventeen team. He wasn't
there for nineteen yet on the point. He was the offensive line coach at
point for a long time. Okay, and UH went down to Russell County
UH last year and turn I won'tcall the name of the school, but
another small college offered him a jobthis year, but he wanted to come

(49:42):
work for us and uh, andthen I was able to hire brand Quavius
Bussy, who was on our twelve, thirteen and fourteen teams that were really
good when we were still under centerwing tee. He was. He went
on to play at jack He wasAll States tackle two years in a row
and went on to play at JacksonvilleStay. He was in that class with
Marlin Bridges, a great the greatrunning back and went on to play free

(50:04):
safety at jack State. And wewere able to hire. That was pretty
much my one hire. It wasn'tin kitchens and uh so we would have
to have that. We got countingme. There's twelve on the staff.
And so if you come watch us, come watch us practice one afternoon.
So I didn't, you know, get separate the size of the kids started
watching the college practice the way whereyou running to change from last years.

(50:25):
No, it's I mean it's reallythe same thing. They did the same
thing when I left. I setthat up back in third ten. Go
ahead, So I mean, youknow price is really up tempo. We
try to make it. You knowas past places we can get kids moving.
Nothing really drops off. I mean, you know, the Sloach story
always says, you know, Sandersthe standard. You know, it doesn't
change it. Linette. You know, we just said a couple of hard
times there last year, and youknow we had to get through it.

(50:46):
And you know it's a dark cloudover there. A lot of people,
you know, passed away and yeah, time at a lot of injuries,
the fire, you know, thebuilding being built, you know, and
I tell everybody all the time, you know, they asked like, you
know what happened? You know?Uh, and I just say, you
know, just one of those oneof those little ruts, right, you
gotta get through it, speed bump, you know. Yeah, you're right.
If you can't get through that, then uh, you know, you

(51:07):
gotta find something within you. Youknow, Friday night, we got this
weekend. You guys play Friday.I was gonna say, LP, will
you put you might down Friday nightat eight o'clock lpt Lnette panther time,
Nette Panther Time. And if you'refrom that, you know exactly what I'm
talking about. As they call fasttime for all their fathers. Right,
So y'all play Friday and then hepolka and they'll play eight o'clock Saturday.

(51:31):
Dollars for y'all's game, right, dollars? Right? And and what this
for folks that are wondering this wasset up to be at Originally I believe
it was gonna be a polka firstor uh no, it was gonna be
at the Fat Yeah, we weresupposed to host it last year. That's
what it was. In the fieldconditions. Yeah, and then we had
to move in to Handley. Itwas still our turns, so then it

(51:51):
jumped to uh. It was betweenthe Fete and Polka, and I think
because that one, because the solidation, I believe they moved up both those
games to and I knew they movedone, but I thought, yeah,
yeah, we get up there andthere's light and delaying and delay the first
one for two hours, and y'allplay Handley in the regular season. That's

(52:12):
just that's just well, i'll tellyou what. Never changed kind of things.
But we used yeah, yeah,we uh in nineteen getting ready for
the state championship all the way throughthe run in the playoffs. I think
we went up to Handley three orfour times during the lightoffs. Yeah,
and when they were still in it, they would start practice during their pe
time and they get through around fourand we would just get out of cooking

(52:34):
on the bus, drive a Rowanokeand we practice football until six o'clock.
So great relationship between coach Door andy'all play and y'all play him in the
regular season. Uh oh hey,and we play each other. We fight
like cats. And dogs, andthen after the game those kids tappened it
up and hugging necks. I meanit's almost it's really it's one of the
coldest rivalries I ever been round.Yeah, I mean they I mean,

(52:55):
I don't mean fight fight. Youknow what. We played Handley hard and
they play us. They coach. It's almost in the blood, you know,
two old meal towns. Oh,I know, I know, coachment
downy us still on each side ofthe ball office, ys coordinator, coordinator.
You know, I got a reallygood staff. You know, we're
really you know, we're way aheadthis year. And I'll tell you what

(53:16):
we're We're light years ahead. Ouroffice line is where we start and we
end. I'm I'm not gonna lieto you. They mark. This ain't
the the same old, same oldNette, you know. But you know
we've got great athletes outside still youknow a lot of height. Uh.
We took our best athlete, puthim at quarterback, and he's absolutely excelling.

(53:37):
He's absolutely excelling doing everything we asked. Being a great leader. We've
got. You know, I'll telleverybody all the time, our most underrated
position on the entire roster. Tome, it is the running back position
for us. I think we've gottwo one thousand yard backs, like completely,
no doubt about it. And that'show Yeah, so he's the one's
gonna call him. Then I'll tellyou this though, Uh, you know,

(54:00):
our our things be multiple. Youknow, we're trying to stretch the
defense as far as we can getthem, you know, and uh,
working vertically down the field if wecan, you know. So well that's
y'all have had a good recipe. So we don't have any six five receivers.
We got a couple, a coupleof tall yeah, he said,
pretty tough. Yeah, well,we won't go as far as say we
got somebody like of Traquez and Poller. Why don't you speed that real quick

(54:23):
speed as far as you go,you know, like coach Charlie the defensive
coordinator, he calls that seventeen statechampionship team. That was the that was
the U of high school football.I mean that thing. I mean,
y'all think about it. They weregood. They they were good in the
game. That's good to see you, see you next week. Congratulations.

(54:44):
On the other way, we havechosen not to have hard days in Lynette.
Some days just more difficult than others, go you go. We'll be
right back from Most barbequ with openlike a coacher speak, hunting season is
near. Welcome back to Most Barbecueninety seven point seven Kick Him Fox Sports,

(55:10):
nineteen thirteen ten. The Game HighSchool Coaches Show, presented to you
by the Orthopedic Clinic right here onour two stations. And we appreciate Most
Barbecue for taking care of all ourguests each Wednesday night, and we'll be
here for the next probably fourteen weeksin a row. Now we turn our
attention to coach Eric Speakman and thedogs. Coach. Good to see you
tonight. Good to see yall.Go to get back out. We got

(55:31):
we got yeah, we got chechef here and Griffin it'll get on here
in a minute. See if yougot them. I'm good, fire away.
How you doing, Bud do?What? Oh man? Now,
it's not his fault. Operator AreaYou good? You're ready for Friday night?
Are you a ball? Are you? Are you one of the ball
of Yes, small boys? Wherey'all played this week on Hontgomer? Who

(55:57):
are we playing? Come on now, Griff, who are we playing?
Me? Ship? You don't remember? That's all right? We won't put
you. I thought you that's allgoing to the bowl? Okay you ready?
Are the dogs ready, sir?Or you let brother talk for a
minute. Yeah, let him getup on real quick. There you go.
You don't have to move, youcan stay there. Here. We're

(56:20):
getting we're changing over hit sits andnow we're moving to Brice number two.
All right, little Brice just likeyour brother. I'm sorry but no,
I mean it's okay, but justso you know. All right, So
what's going on? Griffin? You'reready for the game, yes, sir
boo? Yes, they tell himthe ballboy trick you learned yesterday. Oh
so one of my chiropractor guys,he said that he always used to dunk
it in the water and then bakethem kick it, and once it came

(56:43):
to the guy, he fumbled. It's so you have a we're gonna loa
Yeah, we're gonna look for abucket of water for Griffin to work with
them. Guy that night. Areyou playing youth football? Are you play?
Yeah? You already on a team, and tomorrow's like the little tryout
thing. Got it? Okay?Well position uh usually I'll be like quarterback.

(57:07):
Okay, okay, what great arey'all a brutefrid uh chefs in first
grade? I'm in fourth grade,Okay, I remember when Bryce played at
More Stadium. Yep, y'all.I don't even know if y'all y'a are
in a little crake with it everylittle bit, I don't even know.
All Right, Eric, good tosee you, my man and a ship
Friday night, Thompson before we gothere, and tells them about the dogs.

(57:27):
Everybody's been talking about heat. Iknow it's hot that you'll place too,
got a little indoors. Some ofthem been joking those with indoors.
We'll talk a little bit about yourteam. Coach. Yeah, we've had
Uh, it's been hot, butI don't know that it's been any hotter
than it ever has been in August. Uh even yesterday we had some good
cloud cover, so it just wasn'tIt was hot, but it wasn't his
brutal and uh we're talking with someof the other coach over here. I
think the smaller schools it affects themmore because they don't ever get to have

(57:50):
a break cure, right and Uh, the bigger schools like US and Auburn.
You our kids are are practicing andthen you're practicing another group while that
group gets to go sit you asmaller school, it's the same kid over
and over. So I don't thinkthe bigger schools you're seeing an issue with
it. But you also have togo play in it. So that's one
thing that you can't just always beinside and always knee in shorts because on
Friday night you don't get to playinside and you don't get to play in

(58:13):
shorts, So you gotta do somethingto get them out in it. But
just being real smart about it,and uh, we have moved like tomorrow
morning, we'll practice in the morningtime, so we'll start at seven twenty
and we'll be off the field bynine am. Outside. Yeah, we'll
be outside, but it will beearly in the morning. Then we won't
even have anything in the afternoon. You just use the end doing when it's
lightnings, lightning and rain. Doyou if you I'm glad you brought that

(58:36):
up, because if you've gone inthere much, coach, so that we
don't do it other than if andif it's a you know, normal thunderstorm
that's gonna go by pretty quick,we'll just sit in there and wait till
it goes by and try to getback out on the field. But if
it becomes where the weather so badyou can't get anything done productive, then
we'll go inside. But you're solimiting because our our turf is only forty
yards wide. It's not even thefull FID, so we are limited.

(58:59):
It's a great facility, but it'snot you know, it's not conducive to
a real football exactly right, coachspeaking with us, we're talking to up
like a football. Ninety nine degreesis what it feels like right now at
ten after seven, doesn't it feelscool out of here and compared to what
Yeah, there you go, allright, playing playing in the Kickoff Classic
Friday Night against Thompson. Talk alittle about playing Thompson and your team in

(59:20):
the first game. Yeah, justexcited about it to be the first time
I think we've ever played Thompson,even going back, I guess since they've
been around, we've been around,I doubt we've ever played each other.
And uh, obviously everybody knows whothey are, and uh, we got
the phone call back in Februaries wementioned their media days that you know,
want to know if we would playin this game? And said, sure,
let's you know, we always talkabout doing that at open I can

(59:44):
playing these bigger teams and you know, the schools like that, and so
if we're gonna talk about it,we might as well go do it.
And our kids are really excited aboutit. The challenge that you get from
playing of the team that is wellcoached and what coach Freeman's building his seven
years, however long, he's beenthere, done an incredible job, so
uh should be fun or at leastcatching them with a new offensive line,

(01:00:05):
new defensive line. So he's gonnabe feeling early too. Yeah, getting
them first games, the first gamefor both teams obviously, so you know,
he's got to kind of fill histeam out just like we do ours.
So it's a lot different when youplay people early and they don't know
really what their team is like, versus playing them late when they've figured it
out. Kind of like when Itell everybody all the time, I wish
we played Enterprise early before Ben figuredout, Yeah, before his quarterback and

(01:00:28):
his team. Because you always lookat teams that bend coaches, they are
so good at the end of theyear, and and so take a wide
receiver and exactly, And uh so, you know that's the good thing about
playing this game early is you knowboth of us have to kind of fill
each other out and see see wherethe game's gonna go and who we have
and what we can do with ourkids. We think we know what we

(01:00:49):
can do, but obviously until theyget in the game and you really see
what what happens, can you makethat real decision? Be the temporary difference
between playing at the Bowl and playingat natural Uh, probably probably not a
whole lot. I think I didn'tmind the eight o'clock kick moving it back
to eight. I didn't mind thatbecause it helps us with our time schedule

(01:01:09):
of getting over there. Well,I mean you always talk about you hear
him talk about how hot the turfgets. Yeah, but it's hotter when
you walk. But I mean,I think this new turf, they just
put a new turf, and someof it has this this technology now like
ours is still the old turf untilnext year. But we still have that
black rubber pellet stuff in there thatreally just brings the heat down. And

(01:01:31):
I think this new stuff is supposedto be cooler. Whether it is or
not, who knows, its stillgonna be hot. Probably is. I
guess the best thing about eight o'clockkickoff is the sun has gone down.
Absolutely, you have no right nowstill left. You have no no,
no team in the sun. Andthat at least makes it a tiny bit
cooler to be playing. So it'sstill gonna be hot. Kids are still
going to cramp. I mean it'searly in the year. You know,

(01:01:52):
first game, they're excited. Uh, you just hope that they kind of
limit you know, the ones thatdo cramp, that you have him in
the fourth quarter if it's a closegame. Well, Crampton bow is a
spot. Uh Friday night seven eighto'clock a kick outset seven o'clock kick and
get up tickets at go fan dotc O and add the game. Coach

(01:02:13):
Freme was talking about your quarterback,Hey to do that. Everybody plays,
But he's a phenomenal kid as aplayer. Now I'll need to come watch
him. So so he's a goodone. He is, and he's a
senior, and he's got a coupleof guys playing. So yeah, coach,
good, see good, see away, thank you see next jerk speakman.
You can hear his game Friday nightright here on New Kicker vand Riggs.
Am I right with the call. We'll be back. We're gonna talk
with Polka if we come back inthe Coach Show nineteen and welcome back to

(01:02:51):
most Barbie Q High School Coaches Showon ninety seven point seven Kicker Off Him
Fox Sports nine ten, thirteen ten. The game our Coach Shop was in
about uh Peter Clinic. We appreciatewhat they do, and we certainly appreciate
what most do is taking care ofour folks. Here, Jeff Sasher,
vand Riggs, Jason Leaves in thehouse, Steve Mark here, we've been
rolling along. We'll be here everyWednesday for about the next fourteen weeks.

(01:03:12):
Bring you the Coaches Show. Itwas time to go to poker. Oacha
Polka, man, that's that's goodstuff. We got a unique happening this
weekend. We uh originally had thisgame was supposed to be played on Was
it Saturday? Guys? It's stillSaturday? Well, you know what your
your game is Saturday? Stupid me. I was gonna be two games,
two game. There were supposed tobe two games Saturday at five or whatever

(01:03:34):
and then at seven. But nowwe're gonna play Uh. You guys are
gonna play Poker's gonna play Saturday rightat eight o'clock, will play Friday.
There you go at seven. We'restill at seven. So all right,
so wait minute, who's it eight? Neither one of us we're at seven.

(01:03:55):
Yeah, but I thought they putOkay, we'll have to clarify that
they original eighty five when that panthertime, but that's seven o'clock. Yeah,
that's that's eastern time. Okay,Well he told us seven originally.
We'll have to clear that up becausehe told us on the phone seven.
But we saw a post that saideight. Okay, all right, it's
so cool. It's so confusing, coach, but we're gonna play ball.

(01:04:15):
Coach Walker, do you know hey, I have no idea. I'm thinking
that seven as well. I didget Yeah, I knew your name.
Yeah, yeah, it will sayseven o'clock. All right, guys,
let's talk pok of football. I'vegot some good kids coming back. I
know that we do. And coach, it's your first year at Poke years
two. I thought, okay, first brand new rookies. Well I actually

(01:04:35):
got there in February, so Ifinished the year last bad technically, Coach
issues the beginning of your second oneand a half and a half. But
uh, Poker is a good place. Now, I will start out,
I'll say this, uh our principal, mister Weedon and our sister principal,
Miss Barry, that you can't getbetter than uh than that as administrators for
us as a school and as sportsand athletics, they uh, they won't

(01:04:59):
be good and everything, and theydo whatever it takes to help you.
And and uh it's just great towork for. And then Coach Newton of
course, the head coach. Andwe got a really good staff and and
Polk is just a good place. We got some good kids, and got
a lot of good kids, andyou know, our football team, we
got a lot of kids coming back. Of course, we everybody's kind of
heard of Jamari Payne, who's wasoffered by several SEC schools and about thirty

(01:05:21):
something schools around the country, andhe chose to you know, committed to
Purdue, and uh he's a reallygood player. Uh. And then uh,
you know I'm gonna talk on defense. Well I'll talk both sides a
little bit. Coach walking to helpme if I forget somebody on defense.
You know, we got Quentin Cookswho's a senior as well, very very
good player. He's got some offersas well. Uh. Ethan Payne has

(01:05:42):
some offers who's also a good playfor us. And then we got we
got Xavier Allen on defensive line. He's a good player. Jalen Lockhart,
Jalen Hart, jo Darien Stawai uh. And then we got why he played,
he was there, he was astarter last year. Well, that
was another one we had. Wegot three of thank you very much.

(01:06:04):
The oldest one just went to Tuskegee, okay, yes, uh. And
and so we got Jada and thenwe got Ja Bean Gary and Mitchell Shoneer
inside linebackers, and then Rod Nailsat safety, Jay Walker that the corner,
no, and then we got JeremiahDargston in the corner as well.

(01:06:28):
And and those guys were worked reallyhard. And you know we played in
the spring. We scrimmage Laverne whowas at two A school and they beat
us three to nutting in the spring. So we played pretty good. We
felt like and is a good programcoach. Yeah, it was a lot
like it was the first ninety degreeday of the spring, so it's kind
of rough on us. But youknow it was good offensively, Uh,
you know, we got a goodOur old line pretty much goes one way

(01:06:51):
other than as backups, which isgood. We got quite side of white
Ran Norman Uh Noah Norman. Uhcard so I j card Buster as well
buster uh at a at an oldline. Two. Those guys worked really

(01:07:11):
hard and they're getting better and better. And then they're actually pretty big for
one a football. I mean they'rethey're pretty good sized. Uh. Quarterback
would be uh p d Nailms andthe pets was a quarterback last year,
so he's back. We're looking forwardto him. We got we're gonna fly
kind of play running back by committee. Uh. And then receivers are gonna
be some of our defensive guys aswell. And uh, we're just excited

(01:07:33):
about lolost of poking football. Westarted to poke away a lot out there.
Yeah that and and and what wemean by that. I heard coach
speak on that that's your thing. And by the way, I really didn't
know that that was Coach Smith thattook over the interview out there straight and
every news you remember that Coach Smith. Our ad was asking coach what poke
away? Men? If you rememberthat? And what I had forgot about

(01:07:54):
Andy and uh, but it hedid that right. It means doing things
right. Whatever you do and doit right, and so our kids are
do that pretty good. We gota good group coach. You want to
ask something of that. I'm justexcited to be at poker as well.
The talent we got over there isa lot of talent that some people on
wish they had on the team.A lot of bigger school wish they had

(01:08:15):
some of the talent. Lotropoca has. Some of the guys that I've had
the opportunity to work with since I'vebeen there, showing me that they want
to win, they work hard.I haven't seen or complaining. I haven't
seen anything other than the kids wantto be team players. Just a lot
of positive things going on at LotroPoker right now. Uh, the dbs
I'm working with, the footworks there. That's it's it's it's easy when you

(01:08:40):
go in and you got plenty oftalent to work with. It makes me
excited about coming to practice every day. And that's what I'm getting at Lotro
Poker right now. Give me thatwhere were you at last year? Because
I've been in Georgia the last sevenyears I was over at Harris County High
School. I started off over inChambers County at Valley High for US Loomis
when I was all right when youthat streets and I said it, thank
you. Ain't might as bad asI thought. My coach Tom, I

(01:09:03):
can't name all those kids like youdid, but I will tell you this
now, and I think coach wouldagree. And I'm gonna try to beat
But it's been a struggle for me. And I'm having fun a kid,
and you know, and I secondpart, Yes, I'm having I'm having
fun again. You've seen that way. It's back like I like when my

(01:09:25):
star dress. I'm a little.No, I ain't. I'm a lot.
But in nineteen eighty nine I hadfun when I started this, and
I'm having fun again. And uh, these guys have a lot to do
with it. Coaches, we gota great group of coaches. We got
coach Walker on defense. Coach Martincoach a D line for US. He's
another valid guy. We got coachBryant, who is actually open like a

(01:09:47):
guy. Oh yes, yes,Anthony by yes uh. And then we
got coach Hersh who coach Hersh's sixtiesseven sixty eight years old, played at
Auburn in early seven in there. No, he just got there this year.
He's a community coach, that's whatI thought. Uh. And then

(01:10:08):
we got coach McCoy dot Demo McCoyfrom Russell County. He came with us.
Good for him. And we gotcoach who's our o C. Yeah,
I ain't leave him body out didthe coach. That's a bunch of
coaches. Coach who's our o C. Coach does a great job. You
know. We got a really goodstaff. Excited me. I'm coaching.
I'm a defense coordinator. Are youreally okay? I worked for coach Walker

(01:10:32):
Blood too, right, you gota lot offense in your blood, right,
Listen. I let them have theoffense side, that defense side more
fun. I hear you, go, I hear you. And I meant
that when you said I wasn't gonnago there until we went off there?
What you do? Look like you'rehappy and having a good time. I
am. It's it's you know.I knew that was gonna happen because we
talked about it. Yeah, thisprofession is rough on you now, and
so it's good. I gotta doat least two more. And I tell

(01:10:55):
these guys every day. I thinkI can do seven at Pokland maximize my
retirement. That'll be great for me, So good for We'll hang in there.
Well, all right, let's talka little bit out about your game
Friday. Excuse me, Saturday?Uh, what are we expecting? What
are you expecting? Either one ofyou? Well, I'm from Chambers County,
Oh, you know, you know, I know how it is.
I know how it is at Lafitte. When you go to Bulldog Stadium,

(01:11:15):
they gonna said defense. Yep,they're there for the football game and also
the halftime show. And I'm excitedto be back over in Alabama and get
to be a part of it.I know the atmosphere. I'm telling the
kids that that you guys don't knowwhat you're about to walk in through,
you know, But I'm about that. I'm excited because I know the kids

(01:11:36):
been working hard all summer and Iknow they they want to go whoop up
on somebody else other than themselves.I'm excited. I don't I'm just ready
to let loose. I feel likeI'm playing. I ain't even go coach,
go ahead offensively. Lafette's got someweapons. They got some athletes that
can can make big plays. Uh, they're gonna line up in the eye

(01:11:57):
and come right at you, andthen they're gonna spread and throw it.
So, uh, you gotta beready for a little bit of both and
be able to step up and bephysical when you need to be and then
do a good job covering people whenyou need to be as well. And
so that's what we're looking for anoffense. On defense, they're gonna run
form in front but like us,and they're gonna get after him and and
uh, you know, we justgotta be ready to play. And it's
gonna be like playing in the oven. Oh, like practice has been this

(01:12:19):
week. And so we're just gonnahave to to weather the storm. And
I think coach said a good minute, go coach No, soo said coach,
it might come down to who crampsthe least. And I said,
yeah, you're absolutely you got goingboth ways. I gotta get this all
night from everybody. I've kind ofbeen feeling there that start both ways.
We probably have three. Yeah, that's not a bad nun. But now

(01:12:41):
you might just came in with eight. Well yeah, but we're also gonna
have about five or six more they'regonna rotate in and out. I got
you, but but about three that'llstart, you know. And both ways
we feel like a heat based onwhat we're hearing. The younger, the
smaller schools. I oviously everybody's affected, but we have more players obviously you
can sub it was like a lot. We were talking coach Statement a minute
ago. He was talking about practiceand he said, well, you said

(01:13:03):
no, he hadn't really bothered us. Yeah, because my first group goes
five places, then they get outand get water. In the second of
five when we're working on offense. These are eleven on offense. There's other
eleven on defense, and when weswitch, they just switched. He said
that, well, not exactly. He said, yeah, so it's it's
tough, but hey, it iswhat it is. It's been that way
forever. And when you first started, I thought you were kind of saying

(01:13:24):
I've been at big schools and nowI'm at a small school with the numbers.
I kind of thought, that's whatyou now. I'm'll tell you something
now and I'll admit it. AndCoach Walker said, the same thing.
It's been a it's been a changefor me. I've never been any players.
Yes, And I've never been outof school. That was well,
I've been out of private school fora couple of years, but that's different.
But this, I mean, youknow, go from having my last

(01:13:45):
few jobs anywhere from seventy five toone hundred and twenty kids and now you've
got twenty seven. Yeah, yougo. You have to practice a little
different. You have to keep thatin mind and and and understanding. Imagine,
yeah, you know, understand. But I'm gonna tell you something now.
People thinks not good football players.Come watch loose folks. Come watch.
You're gonna see there's some athletes outon that field that can play at
the next level, and they're gonnabe really good at the next leaf.

(01:14:08):
I've seen that, no doubt about. It's great to see you two guys.
Coach, thank you, Thank youhaving to see both y'all. And
good luck Sat. Seven o'clock,Ke and Pit. That's what you got
it. That's gonna be it.Quick break, we're coming back with the
Guard and good evening. Welcome backHigh School Coaches Show. We're live from

let's start it over all right,Here we go here we go,
let's go turn him up. Allright, I didn't introduce here we go.
All right, now we're back. It's now a time for the most
exciting ten minutes of the coachin.Oh wow, we're gonna get ten?
Can I get? You? Gotten? Go? I get five?
Losing five? Go? Hey,welcome back to the high school Coaches showed.

(01:15:00):
This is Coach Jones and Coach Wallacewith the Boy Guard Hornets. We
want to thank or to Peter Clinic, Fox Sports, the Game Modes Original
Barbecue for hosting this. And yeswe are on the Kicker. That's ninety
seven seven Lee County's best country. We're on all the three, all three

(01:15:20):
It's over here in the black. We got everybody in the house. Anybody
got a break in tonight. Everybodyssmiling. You got everybody's smiling. It's
good. Now we're smiling and sweating. Yes we all that, but we
are smiling. We are and he'sgot Welcome back, mister Jeff Sass,
good, good afternoon, Yes sir, and you got I got a hydra
they had to go do something's running. Oh well, it ain't. It

(01:15:44):
ain't what we thought, because that'sall I'm gonna say. It ain't.
It ain't a pop You can't drinkon the job, Coach Wallace, Wow,
good to be here. Yeah youwill because he didn't have what he
has right, Wow, he's doingit in public. It ain't. Let
me check your name. Okay, all right, coach did uh y'all played
last week? Well? We ina in a scrimmage game, yes,

(01:16:04):
or a little jamber Red deal Shelbycount Okay, and talk a little bit
about it and then we'll go intoit. Well, I think it was
good for us. I mean wegot, you know, kind of get
your feet wet a little bit andget some of the hopefully get some of
the those little jitters kind of outof there. And some kids that hadn't
been under the lights were able toget into the lights a little bit so
and we got to play everybody,So that was That's always a positive too.

(01:16:25):
And I'm gonna throw this in becauseI got to your son Cub through
a touchdown pass. He I'm gonnathrow that in because I know Dad,
that's the first of many, soI know you real. Coach Wasson,
my man, his job this yearif he can name the homecoming queen.
Didn't his son graduate? His songraduate? Know the homecoming queen? Oh?
Wow? Did I nail it lastyear? Did did I tell it?

(01:16:46):
Did I tell it? Good?Thank you very much? I nailed
it all right? So talk aboutthis week, coach, game time?
Yang, what's that he's trying togame time? Game time? Thay,
I don't go on one minute?Oh can you just do this? Yeah?
Yeah, I said we Actually Isaid Friday night, you played tomorrow.
I played Thursday night eight o'clock.Yeah, tomorrow, eight o'clock,

(01:17:09):
eight o'clock in the kick Off ClassicMontgomery Alabama Crampton Bowl on what the first
team to play on? Yes onbrand new and they got brand new turn
they got jumbo tron. Did youknow this? I did not know this.
I knew that. I knew itafter coach. I knew they were
replacing it forgot media days at hsay. Yeah, they did account of the

(01:17:32):
game. We'll have new turf, new school board, jumbo tryn light like
there's some lighting this nights. Hewent through a whole deal. Uh,
And I was like, damn, that's pretty good. I was talking about
it was impressive. It was impressiveall that he went through because that stadium
had been that redone that long ago. But Selma, Selma Saints and you
guys, and I was impressed withthe coach had only been there a few

(01:17:53):
months, but he certainly he said, hey, coach Day. Maybe Coach
Day. I think he's he's beenthat Sellman coaches. He's gonna have been
a head coach I think at BullerCounty and of think right, talk about
playing Salem and them in the firstgame, I'm the week. We all

(01:18:13):
know they're gonna be very athletic.Yes, they've got they've got some tremendous
athletes on both sides of the football. So you know that's that's always gonna
be a tall task for us.And then there's so much of the unknown.
I mean, you don't is hegonna run what he did? It's
coach They're gonna do what he's donein the past, or they're gonna do
because coach Gandhi and them were notas much spread as you would think that

(01:18:36):
Selma has been in the past. They were more uh two back stuff,
even some you know, tied endtype stuff with the personnel they had last
year. So they still would dosome spread, but they ran the football
a lot. So and you knowwhat we've I know, coach Day's past,
there's been more of a true spread, let's gonna throw it around,
that kind of stuff. So it'sgonna be a crapshoot tomorrow night. What

(01:18:59):
kind of see you know you're gonnahave to build? Are going to be
good football coaches and kind of coachon the run and kind of figure it
out as we go. Coach loss, talk a little bit about your offense
if you will. I know yourson's gone to play quarterback. Yeah.
So so, yeah, we werereplacing a bunch of guys, but I
think it's in this level of football, everybody is at this time of the
year. And we really have aunique situation up front. On our offensive
line. We lost four starters lastyear, but we've replaced them with all

(01:19:23):
seniors, so we're we're a veterangroup as far as age upfront. Uh,
they just hadn't played a lot ofFriday night reps up to this point.
But look great the other night againstShelby County. Uh, it's just
like every other year. Offensively, don't turn the ball over, establish the
running game and don't beat yourself, and you got a chance defensive side,

(01:19:43):
coach, I let you kind oftalk about, Yeah, well, we
do have about seven returners defensively,so a couple of guys on the defensive
line, a couple of linebackers, and then you know, three out of
four in the secondary. So thatgroup's not all senior, but they've all
played a lot of football. Theyplayed a lot of football last year.
So you know we're gonna, yeah, we're gonna have to lean on them

(01:20:06):
until we get things figured out. It's probably that's that's possible. Quarterback.
I didn't even ask him that thisyear. This year the quarterback, they'll
there'll there'll be a few quarterbacks.Okay, so we missed that too late,
all right, so we got afew quarterbacks. Interesting, yes,
sir, okay, I mean youdon't have any Do you have any going
both plays? No, sir, don't have any going both ways. I

(01:20:28):
talked to coach McDonald. I can'timagine. He said he had he had
probably eight kids, eight kids. That probably the members sixteen players in sixteen
positions of eight kids, and thatnever leave the field. And I mean,
I get we've all got to survivethis week. You know, it's
supposed to be better next week, you know. But uh, but you
know what, I went in countingthe special teams, No, he said
eight, counting, hunting, receiving, kicking off. Yep, it's gotta

(01:20:51):
be different, right. I mean, we're blessed. We're blessed. Let's
no no doubt. Man, we'vebeen We're blessed to have the numbers that
we have right now. So we'reprobably between eighty five and nineties a lot
of kids. So you're already you'realready to play. I think the kids
are ready to play. Are thecoach is ready to play? I think
we'd always like to prepare, likea little more time, especially when things
have been so crazy about you know, the restrictions because of the heat and

(01:21:14):
not being able to do certain things. And yeah, I mean I think
the kids are ready to play, you know, And that's really that's really,
you know the biggest part of it. If they're ready to play.
Oh, manage that heat pretty good? Yeah, as you can be done
the best we can. So Ihear that, Van, I hear that
music. Turn it back down,Van, Man, turn it back down?
Does that mean? Well, look, we appreciate everybody listening. So

(01:21:36):
the guard is finished. If y'allgotta go eat supper, and you gotta
help your kids with homework. Everybodygo in and take care of bids,
put your kids down. But soare not. Everybody's sleep in, So
you gotta come late and help uskick it off the cramping to channel channel
already. You guys will be there. Coaches Show continued, We'll be back

(01:22:00):
the note sugger. Welcome back tomos Barbecue. High School Coaches Show present
about the Orthopedic Clinic every Wednesday sixto eight be Mark, Jeff, Bann,

(01:22:26):
and Jason all live here tonight withfourteen fifteen head coaches that I want
to give a shout out to ourcoach at Smith Station, coach at uh
Uh, Springwood, and Chambers allcould not be here tonight, so we'll
keep those guys uh. They shouldbe here in the future. We've got
fourteen coaches that that are here inthe house. We've got three more noted
suggers up. Anthony Jones, Now, coach which is it, Coach Miller,

(01:22:51):
Coach William Williams, Now you hada coach Wait a minute, now,
oh, Coach Way, I hadto leave. Yeah, that's what.
Yeah, okay, emergency. OhI saw him. Okay, yeah,
all right, how y'all tonight prettygood, already eating hot. That's
the story of the night and theweek. Y'all have a good food.
Yes, yes, sir, allright, So y'are y'all are playing on

(01:23:12):
the road at uh at Lafaette, but we are the home team. That
you're the home team, and itwill be at what's seven o'clock right Friday
night? I mean seven o'clot right, Yeah, for some reason I was
thinking eight, but that's eight easterntime, right. That's a lot of
people have been getting confused with that, calling me about it. But I'm
like, uh, you know,Lynette is well, go ahead out of

(01:23:33):
me. Man coach the coach Chipgonna be mad at me because he just
gave me a history of last andhe told me it's only three schools in
the state Alabama on eastern time. They are one Valley in Phoenish City.
That's what's so, there's only threeschools on eastern time in the state Alabama.
No, you got ballet lnet lafatte essentially, Oh, you're right,

(01:23:56):
not the fat but all right, you said Valley Lynette in seventh in
Smith Station. They they Easton too. Yeah, I don't want to bust
your bubber, and I don't knowabouse that that was his he was he
missed one. That's all right, that's all right. Well you give me
ye. He had to go allday, every day, all right.
So let's talk about the Blue Devils. We got this the Friday night game.

(01:24:17):
So let's talk about your team.Coach, tell us a little bit
about what you got coming back, what you're looking at. Give us a
summer. Uh, we got everybodybut all of'em. Yeah, we lost
about three seniors last year, buteverybody knows the story. I'm uh,
we played about you did fourteen fifteenfreshman's last year. Took me a minute

(01:24:39):
think about that. Yeah. Nowtheir sophomores, so they are better.
That bodies have gotten bigger and stronger. They're stronger, that mind frame has
gotten a little better in the gameof football. So I think that they're
gonna play a lot better. Team'sgonna play a lot better. We got
about thirty five forty kids out thisyear. That's a that's the biggest team
we had. We resting about seventeenlinemen. Uh, I ran out of

(01:25:02):
numbers this year for him. Butthat's a good thing. Finally, I'll
take that. Uh with the depththat we'll have, Uh, but we
still roughly on the gut. Wegot five singers on this team now,
uh, handfull of juniors, Uh, fourteen sophomores. Uh, handful of
freshman's handful of eighth grades? Sowhat's your totally number? Thirty five?

(01:25:25):
That's what I thought the largest team. Yeah, that's a good number.
Yeah, both ways, how manyI've got to ask that all night?
Both ways? How are you eleven? Eleven? Uh? I'd say maybe
five. Eight's been the biggest number. Yeah, I'll say five because I
don't we don't have old line Dline. We shuffle them in so we
don't have to worry about that depBut our skill guys gotta play, so

(01:25:47):
they on both sides. So well, I say probably five special teams to
us. H. Yeah, Ileft them, make they go all every
place. I forgot the go ahead. What's the youngest you had to play
in last year? Cup? Whatdid the freshman? I mean eighth grade?
Eighth grade? Yeah, I rememberseven? No, I well,
I got a seventh grade playing thisyear. Uh. I had a seventh
grade playing last year. I thought, really really a young bunch that was

(01:26:11):
getting a lot of play in time. But they big. That's the thing
you don't. Yeah, you weretelling us it looked like just big babies
out there. But now they body. Some of the these guys that put
on I was looking at uh alot of physical UH records from the from
last year to this year. Someof these guys put on anywhere from ten
to fifteen pounds of us and someof the guys that need to lose weight

(01:26:31):
has dropped ten and twelve pounds. So the weight room has been really good
to us this year. Like westarted back in December and all the way
through the spring, had a goodsmall camp and uh we have grown.
We have well you you needed afteryou having so many young's, you know,
Coach Torchy think how things are going. From an assistant beef, I

(01:26:54):
think it's going well. Like coachsaid, I think the guys bought in
since December, they've been working out. After the season last year, a
lot of them were talking about howthey were excited about next year, ready
to work, and uh, theybought in and they were there, so
we're excited about UH the future andI think we're gonna do a little make

(01:27:14):
some noise this year. Uh,Lynette, that's who you play. Very
good football programs, sir, always, always always. Uh. We went
and watched them play the spring gameagainst David. A nice size group,
big big guys up front. Alwaysgonna have some athletes. So we we
have challenged our guys. Last year, we didn't give it. We didn't

(01:27:38):
give a game last year. Thisyear, we just got to show up
and play. You know, ourteam, like Lynette does not have.
They don't need any help with usturning the ball over, with us not
playing good on special teams, withus not making good decision when we need
them. So that's the stuff we'vebeen talking about all summer, uh spring.

(01:27:59):
It's just challenging those guys to bebetter than they were last year,
giving them the net a chance.Let's just see how good when Nett are
you going lay down? You don'tknow how good a team man's when you
get it right, coach right.Last year we gave you know, they
I'm not gonna say we gave theyblocked two punts last year for touchdowns.
We gave up two third and longtouchdowns when we should have got off the
field. Uh, we moved theball inside the red zone. We just

(01:28:23):
didn't know how to finish. Wedidn't know how to score. Let me
say this, seething, Would Ibe right? When you play a team
like this, all your punts needto be right. Kickoffs need to go
in the end zone if possible, getting in Speaking of that, how us
your kickoff? Cause you used tohave one that kicking every end zone?
I mean every time we got one. Now, Uh, he's a straight
kicker now so but shop styles. He's putting it in the US least,
putting it down to about the fifteen. He really kicks it. They go

(01:28:45):
in the end zone. So thereyou go. We were good with that.
He also kicking instra points too. We've been This year has been a
solid year of fundamentals of technique.Been working a lot of special teams,
at least forty five minuts special teams. So we got punters, long snappers.
That's the stuff that now it's notgonna get us. Can win you
a game and lose you. Theylost a lot of them. I know
them. Friday night, eight o'clock, I'm seven o'clock Central, eight o'clock

(01:29:09):
Eastern end of La Fete Lafat againstLandea. That's Les said, Bulldog Stadium,
Notta, Sota and Lanett at BulldogStadium. Thanks guys, you see
y'all. Good luck s all right, they'll go, Yes, sir,

Juan Williams Coach thorn Right, goodsir, good to see you both.
Good to see y'all from the LafetBulldog. I've been sitting out here for

(01:30:00):
two hours, y'all practicing it fortwo hours. I've been in the shade,
sitting down Coach on know how y'alldo it? I can't stand it.
It's scary right now, guys, and I ain't gonna tell you that.
Uh. We've been owning off ofthose hours and thirty and forty minutes.
It's it's scary right now, Yeah, it is. And you know,
those kids are the most important things. We put our egos and all

(01:30:23):
that aside so that those kids comesafe and leave safe. I love that,
Coach. That's one of the biggestthings that we just talk about right
now. We might be crabbing alot, but you know, we're gonna
take care of those kids first.Uh. We're gonna make sure that you
know this is a game and notto forget that it's a game. And
when you have kids out there,I have one, and so we're gonna

(01:30:46):
protect them much as we can andget them every opportunity to you send them
to me. We're gonna try tosend them back to you at home.
You know what us coach, that'swe got such great great me and coaching
our kids around here, because all'sbeen talking like you did. You've been
talking like they have all concerned aboutCoach Grider talked about it, the other
coaches about kids and heat. It'sbeen the theming that you've worrying about how

(01:31:09):
they're doing, making sure they don'tdo too much. I come in joall
for that because none of you aretalking about winning the game right now.
Well, and it's not about that. I mean, it's not not at
this point when you have kids inthis state and people you know the kids
are Yeah, has had misfortunes thelast two or three weeks. That's that's
scary, man. And that's juststories coaching close. Of course we know

(01:31:31):
one basketball play, you know.I mean, it's scary. So I'm
gad to hear your concern about that. And you just got a weather through
it, yes, sir. Andthat's and that's the thing. You know.
We we go through all kind ofcool downs. It's just take them
off, go sit down like acar and go, ye, go cool
down. We'll come back out ina little bit. So, yes,
sir, that's been our last threeor four days. Has been there all

(01:31:53):
right. You you open up foryou got a big weekend at your campus.
Coach, you got double hitter football, rough guy, you do have
a have it. But that isthat will be good that they are coming
to your place. So you're hostingtwo games Friday and Saturday, Yes,
sir, seven pm on both nights. Yep. Then you cleared it up,
yes, sir. Uh, we'llhave not the saga and Lynette on

(01:32:15):
Friday night and lots poking the Fedon Saturday night. All right, talk
a little bit about poker now wesat here, man Polka sounds good.
They got a lot of returning players. Uh, what's your thoughts on poker,
coach? They beat us pretty goodlast year, and our kids can't
understand that we want to be Uhwhat goes around comes around a little different

(01:32:40):
this year. I think it'll bea whole lot better game. Uh,
we're a little more healthier coach.Poker's got him, coach, and you
just done a great job down tothose kids. I think they're gonna be
well coached. We're gonna have tohave our best effort to beat them at
home at our place. So we'relooking forward to the challenge. Though.
You're looking forward to the chat. You always are, coach, aren't you
want what you say about your team? Yes? Sure. For one thing,

(01:33:02):
we had uh a great off seasonand uh we had a long lock
of guys last year that were youngto had to start. All those guys,
uh get bigger, fast, andstronger. So we're looking forward to
meeting the challenge. I thank ourguys who who answered the bell. We'll
be ready to play. Come turnme uch up. What's your numbers the

(01:33:23):
number of players you have on yourteam right now? We got about thirty
eight varsity thirty eight varsity play allof them. Everybody seems the numbers to
be pretty pretty up. We're upa little bit, you know, are
you because some young guys are arecoming up? Or did you have some
guys that didn't play? We gota couple of guys yeas just came out

(01:33:44):
and want to be a part ofit. We made it more of a
family atmosphere this year, and thatwas something that we felt we didn't do
it as good a job that weneeded to and we're still doing. Uh.
We just went to church Sunday witha with our guys, just just
trying to get a family uh backtogether. You know, I'm one of
them then, you know, fmlypraised together, stays together, you know,

(01:34:06):
and when you end doubt sometimes yougotta go back and get on your
knees about it for sure. Sowe love that you So we we're we're
more about that. It's the footballwill come. We want to make better
people out of him right now.You know. That's and that's how I
go and we think that that's working. You know, knock on wood,
we think Coach, that's been yourmonto since I first met you, So
I ain't gonna let you get awaywith that. You've been doing that making

(01:34:28):
young folks better since I've known you. So kudos to you. You've done
super job. But I love tohear you say. We got a lot
of good people around us. There. She just got on my left and
I worked and uh, and theythey stay with it and understand good or
bad. They've been with women. It was good and they've been women is
bad. So we're hoping to goback good. Yeah, we're trying to
go back to one of the oldcoaches. Coach still will call me make

(01:34:50):
sure we knew about to change andthe you know the sky because we had
said it wrong. And so yougot he's an administrator now, right,
sir? Is he coaching in itall? Or he still helps with there
you go. So he got peoplelooking out for you, which is what
I tell you why you call himMark, Because we were like, yeah
we did, are they gonna playat five five? That's we were.
We were in and I was aboutto text you and he let us know,

(01:35:13):
so uh, and it was itwas a no brainer when they told
us. Absolutely. It's just likeman, uh, I'm like, hey,
man, guys, whatever we needto do well. And for those
that don't know, it was gonnabe a double header Saturday, that four
teams are gonna play two games, you know, in afternoon and in the
evening, and it would have beena big gate for the home team and
you know everybody. And it didn'twork out. So you're still gonna play

(01:35:33):
end of the fete, but thefirst game will be Friday night at seven,
and then you'll play Saturday at seven, sir, and tickets online,
go fan dot fan in at thegate. Yep, yes, sir,
All right, it's all And whowe got right here? He upset?

and he got it nice. Yes, well well it was, it's not

(01:37:18):
anymore. He had a nice shirtand flax and polo and from unfortunately a
funeral. Yeah, and I dowant them start by I did in this
morning but I do want to letyou talk about the young man that yeah
kill less. So just a tragic, tragic accident Friday night. Cage Sin,
who's a senior at our school,Uh, played football last year,

(01:37:40):
was our long snapper and uh hehad a one car accident that took his
life Friday night. And it's beena tough few days, h tough week
for his family, our community. We've got several boys on the team that
were really close and UH, it'sjust been hard, you know, it's
Uh, it's a tough life lessonthat these boys are going through. And

(01:38:01):
the students at the school, youknow, trying to understand why things like
this happen. But hopefully they'll growfrom it and uh some of them may
you know, their faith. Maybemaybe they can be brought to the Lord
through this experience and understanding that. You know, a lot of times with
young people, they think they gottheir whole lives to get it done.
Think they're in business and uh thatyou know, but you not promised tomorrow,

(01:38:21):
and none of us we're hoping somethinggood can come out of it in
some way. We don't see itright now, but at the funeral,
the funeral, this afternoon. Prettyemotional kind of deal. It was actually
at your It was in the auditorand uh, you know, big crowd.
It was standing room only in there, and uh it was just a

(01:38:41):
very touching service. And you knowit's uh, it's just like I said,
it's been tough, but we'll beready to play Friday night hopefully.
Well let me say this, fromwhat I could read about the young man,
he's an extraordinary individual. I mean, he really was a group at
church. You know, you hearthat about kids all the time and what
great kids they are. This kid, true was that guy. He had
a smile on his face every timeyou saw him. Uh, there were

(01:39:04):
you know, several people gave testimoniesabout what kind of kid he was,
and you know he was well lovedby his classmate. Sounds like we know
where he's at. Coach, Ifeel pretty confident and there you go,
and may God be with his family. From a long time, coach has
talked a little bit about football. You old team, that's a tough subject
go to after real life story. But you played it last week. I

(01:39:25):
think you said no, no,no, that we you did not that's
what you'll be this week would bethis will be our first time and uh
it's uh we got we tump ofFriday night at seven. We haven't moved
our kick off. We're gonna playat seven. I was joking with Jeff,
you know, it's everybody winding aboutthis heat. Man, It's it
seems like it's like this every summer, you know what you know, I
love his coach dies story. Iain't ever had a cold summer, so

(01:39:46):
you know, uh, you know, it is what it is, and
uh, we're gonna deal with itbest we can. And uh and just
go on. We've been practicing init the last two or three weeks,
and uh, you know, youjust gotta be smart. Uh try to
play as many kids as you canand keep them hydrated throughout the week.
You can't wait till Friday to dothat. It's too late. We've had

(01:40:06):
some good practices even though it's beenhot. You know, Monday was a
little sluggish. Yesterday was better. And uh, you know we didn't practice
today. We did we lifted andwatched film during school and then let him
go to the funeral this safternoon. And we'll do a little bit more tomorrow
than we do on a typical Thursday. And uh hopefully be ready to play

(01:40:26):
Friday night. All right, tellme this for you. Hold on,
Jim, how many how many? You lost a good bit last year?
Right on defense? We lost stateon defense. Uh, we've got eight
back. On offense, we reallyare excited about what we may be offensively,
maybe one of the most exciting offensesin the state. We've got a
three year starter at quarterback. We'vegot four guys at receiver that can all

(01:40:46):
make plays. We've got a fourstar kids that's committed to Auburn, Malcolm
Simmons. He's he's the bell cow. But we've got a bunch of We've
got three other ones that are justas a dynamic and uh, you know,
it's it's we could have a reallyexciting offense. Now. The defense,
on the other hands, got theirhands full. We're you know,
we're very young. Even the eightthat we're bringing in probably didn't play a

(01:41:10):
total of twenty varsity snaps last year. So there's some there's some talent there,
but there's just inexperience and uh,you know, so we've got to
we've got to grow up fast. We've got some guys banged up. You
know, I told you on theradio this morning yesterday at practice, I
think we had one time we hadthree freshmen and on the D line at
one time. And you know that'shard in six day football now. And

(01:41:31):
used to say sophomores. Yeah, now one of those freshmen special now he
and he he was gonna play alot anyway. But with the injuries we've
had and and you know, peoplebanged up, the other two have kind
of been forced into action. Anduh, but the coaches have worked really
hard to try to scheme around thatand and give us the best opportunity to
be successful. And you know we'llwe'll go out there and compete on Friday

(01:41:55):
night. Are you the offensive coordinator? We're time, not any kind of
coordinator. We were joking about thatthis morning. No, I'm talking about
your defense to get better. Iknow, I was fortunate that last year
we were able to hire two greatcoordinators. Great Craiger is an offensive coordinator
and uh, just a strong Christianguy, does a great job. And
Jason Simmons is another great, greatyoung man. I say
