We're gonna help us do it out to night.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
But coach Brian Moore with the head coach of them Bulldogs,
that's one, and Oh is with us.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Good, good afternoon, coach, good evening.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Are y'all good? Good to see you tonight?
Speaker 5 (01:09):
Yeah, same here, glad to figure.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Yeah, congrats on the win Friday night. I was there
and your team played good.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
You may not think so, but a win to be
is good.
Speaker 6 (01:18):
I said that in post game, you know, we were
talking and you know, I was in being an interviewed
by Van and coach and everything, and and uh, you know,
I've learned over the years it's so hard to win
that you can't be disappointed. That's not it's not acceptable.
But but we had to go back to work. We
didn't play very good. We weren't very clean, but you know,
if i'm if I'm hunting for things, you know, our
(01:39):
kids were resilient and fought back at the end.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
Fought through a lot of adversity.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Was complimentary in the game with you know, the defense
not playing great early but then really picking it up
late in the game and kind of making that stand
at the end.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
So we're excited about to win.
Speaker 6 (01:53):
A lot of new faces out there that learned to
win the other night, and you know, in front of
ten thousand people, so incredible crowd, great night for football.
We were fortunate to get out there with a win.
But that's a really good Ben Russell team over there too.
Speaker 7 (02:05):
Yeah, coach, they're are your offensive line.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
They're huge. Boy, they're big.
Speaker 7 (02:09):
And I know, you got some new pieces though, a
lot of people play new positions, a lot of people
having to move over. You got a new center, a
lot of calls and checks that have to be made,
and that was a really good defense. I was impressed
with their size up front. They returned two big guys
on the had tackles and they were bringing everybody bringing
the pressure. That was a lot thrown at them.
Speaker 6 (02:24):
It was, and you know, and we didn't handle it
great as far as our calls, and as you're saying,
you know, the communication piece between all five, I thought
it was and then you know, we got some new
tight ends and fullbacks too.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Now you know it played in the game.
Speaker 6 (02:35):
So really the core and all seven, you know, had
to do a lot in the game and you know,
I thought we were you know, a little bit.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (02:42):
Everything was happening kind of fast for us early the
last drive, and you you know, you said it on
the radio. You know, we started to settle in and
kind of you know, create some creases for CJ and
Jordan and Blake and so you know, as the game
war on, we got a little bit better, specifically in
the fourth quarter in the last drive, but we got
to be cleaner.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
That the thing.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
You know, we got connected to people, we were fine
and moved them around, but times where we cut people loose. Man,
you it just can't happen in this at this level.
You know, those guys made plays in the back fel.
We had too many negatives and obviously we talked about
early in the game that bought hit the ground like
probably more than all year combined. I don't you know anyway,
that's new to me. But we'll get it fixed and
hopefully be better this week.
Speaker 7 (03:18):
Defense was so good in the second half to the
adjustments that y'all made in the locker room to basically
just shut Benjamin Russell down. The only time they scored
was when you gave them a thirteen yard field to work.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
With no doubt.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
I mean two huge stops early in the third quarter
because we couldn't get out of our own end zone.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
You know, we're back. We played the whole game.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
We felt like backed up there in the third quarter,
and then you know, for us to really rise up.
You know, even the drive from the thirteen was tough.
I think it was four or five plays and they
had a penalty to get in there.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
You know, we got a.
Speaker 8 (03:43):
Third down stop and they had to go wild.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Can't to do it exactly.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
So you know, it felt good about our resilience. You know,
that's something I look for little things now as I'm
gaining more experience than this is. You know, how does
our defense look as they're running on the field after
one of those issues, you know, bad turnover, you know,
something we wish we had back. Anybody's played quarterback understands
that happens from time to time. It can't happen much.
But our defense went out and fought and I thought
kept us sending the ball game until our offense found
(04:06):
its footing again.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (04:08):
Absolutely, And I know that we talked about how physical
it was. I know, how are you going into the
game tomorrow night? I know you've got to beat up
and banged up after that one.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Not great.
Speaker 6 (04:15):
I mean, like four game time decisions. You know, we
we we're nicked up. I mean it was. It was
a physical football game. Kind of weird because a lot
of times, if you're playing a team that's gonna throw
it forty times, you know it's not super physical. You're
fatigued because you're rushing the passer, but you're know it's
not super physical.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
But it was, man, Kyle Lee, like, we just got
beat up.
Speaker 6 (04:33):
Nothing major, nothing, It's gonna be Thank goodness, you know,
season ending. But you know, we'll see and it's not
a region game, but obviously we play every game to win,
but we'll see. Literally, we're gonna take some guys through
warm ups and I'm gonna evaluate them with our athletic
training staff and our doctors and and we're gonna see
if they can play. So again, beat up. But the
good news is we worked really hard for the past
(04:53):
two years to you know, find depth. It's evident in
our JV and we were five and one last year
in JV we beat Carved the other night in JV,
So we got some kids that can step up. Tenth
and eleventh graders in play, so you know what, we
may see some new faces out there.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Though.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Oh yall away, come sorry, I'll go ahead. Calie to
morrow Night coach talking about.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Caliwa and I mean really talented.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
You know, up until last year it was two and two,
you know the series, and last year was was an
anomaly I think in the game because they had like
six players out and they came over and we were
senior laden and kind of started really fast in the
season last year and kind of got on them early
in the game. But that's not something that I anticipated
at all. I mean, they are, you know, a team
with a senior quarterback. They're more experience than we are.
(05:32):
They got a kid at receiver that's an Alabama Georgia
type kid, a really good player, another six y five
guy that we got to deal with. And they got
a big linebacker. It's a power four guy that also
played fullback. They do a good job acrossing guys over
and playing both ways. They keep their best eleven on
the field, and they do a great job with pitch
count and making sure those guys are still fresh at
the end of the game. Somehow, play Hunters now but
they pick and choose when they're going, and in these
(05:53):
pivotal moments is when you'll.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
See ten the Mike linebacker come over and maybe even
take care of you.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
So whatever work cut out for us looks a lot different.
A lot of a lot of twenty one personnel, tighty
and wing, a lot of pullers will have to do
a great job, be really disciplined on our run fits.
Speaker 7 (06:05):
Yeah, their quarterback coach. I've been impressed with him. I
know you guys were impressed with them last year the beating.
He took him back there and he kept getting up
and you know, there was no complaint from him.
Speaker 8 (06:13):
He's he's a warrior.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
And when I watched him in that first game, it
was a tough atmosphere of rain. He can scramble around
and chunk the thing forty or fifty yards down the field,
or he can turn and run it for forty or
fifty yards.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
I mean any like massive down. I mean he's probably
gonna carry it.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
You know, they'll run some type of bash action with
the back and you know which is you got to
have your eyes in the right spot and.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
See guards as they pull.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
But yeah, I thought last year is funny baby TJ,
who's kind of the vat the leader defensively, he said
he's a coach.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
He don't stop. I said, I know.
Speaker 6 (06:42):
He said he's gonna keep gett up because lat year,
we absolutely pepper that kid.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Yeah, and uh, you.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
Know with Autry and Smiley and TJ and those guys,
and he kept playing. He's resilient and he's a winner
and you know he's a good player. So we're gonna
have to tackle him and get him on the ground
for sure.
Speaker 7 (06:55):
Coach Massy told me he's the toughest guy he's ever seen.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
I mean literally for you know, like Pamper pay On
like and what he does. Yeah, yeah, he's not going
away and.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
The game is he around, yelled and play.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
He was pretty tough.
Speaker 8 (07:05):
Yeah he's that.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah, that guy was pretty good.
Speaker 9 (07:11):
Man.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
He got four when he got the ball. Anyway, go ahead, man.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
I was just thinking, I think, I think that's it.
I mean, it's it's gonna be another big test for
the team.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
I don't mean, I don't I don't even like to
say is what it was you had? You mentioned this,
you had a couple of miscues and special teams, and
I know that's so uncharacteristic.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I'm sure you're working on that this week, no doubt.
I mean it's thought about this.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
This makes you sick, you know, because you work so
hard at it and our kids do too, and we
just got to clean it up. But it's guys that have, like,
have operated at a high level, so you don't that's
not going to be a trend.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
I mean, it's just one of those.
Speaker 6 (07:40):
Nice like like I was like everybody else, I mean,
you said it was good on the radio, and I
was like, I was like you, I don't even hardly
watch the thing.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Yeah, I was in that in and saw it. He
missed you, yeah right, but coach he hit everyone in
the end. Oh my god, such a strong foot.
Speaker 6 (07:56):
Well yeah yeah, I mean flipped the field that I
just knew you brought it up.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
Well, any other stuff too, just little things like lanes
coverage wise. On kickoff, you know, just all the we
blocked a punt and we just barely got in. The
thing rolled forty four yards and you're like, you know,
so we got to clean that stuff up. But I
think it was just some bad breaks in the night,
and I don't think it's a trend.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
So We're excited to see his bounce back.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
All right, real quick tomorrow night. You worried about to
quick turn around and that absolutely figure.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
Yeah, heck yeah, six days.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
They've had two weeks off, so so you know again,
we got to rise up and play well. But it'll
be a lot of fun, great atmosphere and looking forward
to it.
Speaker 7 (08:32):
All right, we'll carry the game start at five o'clock,
right yeah, six o'clock Central timekick tomorrow right here on
the Kive on the radio.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
We'll be back with the High School Coaching Show from
Moe's Barbecue right after this. And we're back at Moe's Barbecue.

of teams, including our next team, like.
Speaker 3 (09:16):

Speaker 4 (09:19):

Brandon Hall, coach Mike listens with US coach glistenon first

Speaker 10 (09:35):
Appreciate it. Appreciate it. Coach, Yeah, a little good man,
it's fun. Yeah, a good time.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Tell me a little bit about who did well and
well early on, man, we got a break early on
the bad snap on the punt team, so who was
able to capitalize off of that?
Speaker 10 (09:49):
kJ Carty ended up scoring touchdown him. I'm having through
that night off quarterback. He had about one.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Hundred and fifty Russian three touchdowns.
Speaker 10 (09:56):
I think we played well up front o'lon wise, the
guy was doing a great job blocking and offensively.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Give up a couple of big plays there. Oh it was.
Speaker 10 (10:06):
It was kind of tight and in the first half
fourteen to twelve, and then the third quarter it was
it was close and then we were able to stretch
away with it.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Lady. In the third fourth quarter we stretched away a
little bit. That was probably of our guys.
Speaker 10 (10:17):
I'm glad they stayed together and play hard, you know,
so I was excited for them.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Coach Christen, were you coaching?
Speaker 2 (10:22):
What the spots your coaching this time? Old line? Old line?
Speaker 10 (10:25):
Assistant head coach offensive line?
Speaker 11 (10:27):
And I remember you back.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Yeah, you told me and I couldn't remember. I know
he does a lot and I like that. How did
your group do?
Speaker 12 (10:34):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (10:34):
They did better than I thought. We're getting better every
day and that's the key. We got some talent, got
some big guys that can move and uh uh, we
just got to keep playing together and getting better every day.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
You know.
Speaker 13 (10:46):
It's it's trying to get them do it our way
and and uh they're they're getting it done. But we
had a pretty good night. Now we had some guys,
knock some guys around, and we're going to play that
much better this week to have a chance to beat they.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Scott, there you go.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
At least, Scott, let me say it's your defense must
played well to coach, it was only twelve points.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
At half time.
Speaker 10 (11:05):
Yeah right, yeah, No, twelve points came on like a
fourth down play where we got our eyes in the
wrong spot.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Deep ball hit us. You know.
Speaker 10 (11:11):
Uh so, y'all defense played well. They did a good
job stopping the run. They did a good job getting
down and getting off the field on third down as well.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
On the road tomorrow, at least Scott Judge Scott Stadium, Judgecott,
Scott Stadium, Yeah, jud Scott.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah, yeah, there you go.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Talk about playing at least gott.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
They got their win last week.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, at least got gonna be
least Gott.
Speaker 10 (11:31):
You no, bust are gonna do a great job, old
school coach, you know how to get it done fundamentally
sounds plays.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Hard, you know it does. It does a great job.
The great Keith. It's a beautiful wife.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
How you doing, yes, sir, yea, how you doing?
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Coach?
Speaker 10 (11:49):
Uh yeah, they're gonna be They're gonna be well coached.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Man.
Speaker 10 (11:51):
You know, they're gonna be fundamentless sound uh not gonna
make the mistakes to beat themselves, you know.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
So it's gonna be up to us to make sure
we don't beat ourselves.
Speaker 10 (11:59):
But uh, y'all know bust how those boys read roll
Man physical, big Max Hammer.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Forgot about that.
Speaker 10 (12:09):
You learn him from Alboro the eighth grade and ninth
grade as far as train and yeah, played football coach that.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
I just was connected when you were talking to him
all day, I was like, how does he know him?
Speaker 2 (12:18):
And I remember you coached over there?
Speaker 10 (12:20):
Great kid, man, Oh he is that no doubt. We
gotta play lights out, have an opportunity. It would be fun.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Look last year he and I went over there.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
We had the dedication you know for coach take and man,
what a game start out and then bam, you guys
came back. It was a very tight, physical, great game.
Now from a fan, I enjoyed watching it. Now I
don't care, you know, I'm for both teams. It didn't
matter who won, but it was a good game to watch.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
It was a good game, good competition. You know.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Tell me, so you guys ready healthy? I know we
talked with a couple of coaches. You know they've been
kind of banged up after Week one. How you guys, yeah,
were ready to go. Coach were pretty healthy, So we
ready to rock and roll? If you make it through
the heat okay with the one although I thought it
was a comfortable night compared I didn't play it, i'd
have pads on, but compared to what it could have been.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
So how did y'all's team manage that?
Speaker 13 (13:08):
I think it's been a mile summer altogether. Really it
has not been what it's been in the past. We
hadn't had those days where you wonder if you really
even should go outside because it's so hot.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
It's funny you said that they took a heat break
the other night, and I was like, you know what,
they don't remind me of the time when they take
heat breaks.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
And this week's even better. I mean, you know, smileder
this week. We talked about to have a bunch of
times this August. I can remember like having, you know,
just a few years back, having seven or eight days
in a row that was touching on one hundred degree.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
They're sweating, But I got along knock on that wood
right now, I know just about a time. It is
true that both all of us know it right, all
of us have been there, So anyway that helps you guys,
you know, the heat time out seemed to help.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Even though I can Bene Russell. We got God, that's
what I.
Speaker 10 (13:54):
Was gonna say, coach, and that's our gigs were going
both for Yeah, that's tough.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Just don't have that many.
Speaker 13 (13:59):
So yeah, you know, Coach Holst done a great job
this summer. We uh we run them really well and
uh it's paid off.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Now you'll see a team they play a lot both ways.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
I believe what coach Daniels totals last time, so it'll
be very similar opponents.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Thursday night body coach quick turn around. Yeah, I mean
a short week. We just had to make sure it
just well to you guys.
Speaker 10 (14:18):
They ever ripped got account man, we won't have that loan,
you know, So it's fine.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
I know, I know you're trying to watch the arbent
title play man all mean version, Yeah, I've better watch
high school. I'm one of them. Don't change a high
school game for college. I'll get shut out of all.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Right, Friday Night from high school right on my show,
Say Friday Night is open.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
It's high school. It should be only right, that's right.
College can play any other day. That's just my thought.
But yeah, it'll be fun, Yeah, it be It should
be a good crowd and it'll be good.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
We'll see all out there, right, yes.
Speaker 3 (14:46):

You may not believe it, but I was at practice
yes day as you told me.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
So was he practice guys, Yes, sir, right, So we
got Max and we got Brooks. I got it right.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Without looking.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Gentle introduced these to.
Speaker 15 (16:12):
Yeah rig zactly of course as junior running back linebacker
number thirty and Max Hammers, our senior quarterback number twelve.
Can't play defense. We don't allow him play a whole lot.
But both of them are punters. These the guys I
talked about the other day along with Barrett Cook. You know,
I told you I had Max last year was second
team All state only because he had eighteen punts. Brooks
(16:33):
is he's on the punt team, but he could also punty.
He would start for six seven teams around here as
a punter. And then of course Barrett Cook. Barrett was
probably had a forty five yard average before he got
hurt last year. So you know, they can do more
than just running football throw the football.
Speaker 16 (16:46):
So two fine young men.
Speaker 15 (16:49):
Glad to have them, Glad the Warriors and had they
both had a great game the other night.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
So he was at practice yesterday in the golf cart,
golf cut.
Speaker 8 (16:56):
I tell you that part he was he all right?
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Was he mellow? Is faster than usual?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
What that.
Speaker 17 (17:05):
Has pedal down?
Speaker 2 (17:09):
I was supposed to tell all that.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
All right, tell me about that forty twenty win coach
last week, and then we're gonna talk to these you.
Speaker 15 (17:13):
Oh yeah, I mean it was a good game for us.
You know, we've made some mistakes. But anytime that you
can have a win and still correct things, you know,
I think you're in good shape. That both these guys
had great games. Brooks I think I'm gonna get this wrong,
but I think Brooks had seven cares for one hundred and
seventy nine yards something like that, four touchdowns. Max was
like thirteen for seventeen. Am I right, it's like one
(17:34):
hundred and eighty yards on hundred ninety yards passing. You
have two touchdowns of one passing, one passing, one passing,
one running. I think so both had a great game.
You know, acs first time we'd seen them other than
on film last year when they played Glenn Wood. Didn't
know a whole lot about them. They're they're really good program. Uh,
Coach Summers does a great job with those guys down there,
but uh, it.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Was kind of going in blind. Didn't have a whole
lot on them. But our guys played well. We did
it with a really good job. I'm I was proud
of them. Obviously.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Did you get to play the whole team, Coach, Well.
Speaker 16 (18:03):
We played most you know, forty twenty is not a blowout.
Speaker 15 (18:06):
Yeah, they came back and scored, so you know, we
got now look at this, We played probably five ninth
graders in the record part of the game, in the
middle game, so we played a lot of guys because
the main reason because these guys play on both sides
of the ball and on special teams, so we're trying
to rest them as much we can.
Speaker 16 (18:21):
But uh, we had a lot of young guys play.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
All right, all right you first, brooke, No, you' the senior.
Let's go to you Max.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
All right, I didn't know he was first. Didn't realized
it next year.
Speaker 16 (18:30):
Yeah, all right, you know I know him. Just bring sing.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
It's a good me out.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Yeah, so it didn't mean that the wrong way.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
All right, Tell me about how things are going with
you and what are you thinking everything and playing.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Poka tomorronight loach of Poka tomorrow night.
Speaker 12 (18:40):
Yes, sir, we're really really excited to get out there
and play them coming off last week. Uh, we kind
of put it together on the ground in the air.
Everyone kind of took care of their own their own job,
came together and put together a pretty good win.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
You played defense too, no, sir, just off in yes, sir, all.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Right, what about you played both sides?
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Right, yes, sir? All right, to me about what you
think about tomorrow night.
Speaker 9 (19:02):
I think we have a good shot coming off the wind.
We have a lot of confidence where we built that
up from our last win from last week, and uh,
just gonna everybody do their job, like Max said, and
we'll come out with a win.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
You play both ways, sir, And how many other play
both ways.
Speaker 15 (19:19):
We got probably eight or nine just swapped one side
of the other. And of course they play special teams too.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
They gotta do it a trip away if you want to.
Speaker 16 (19:25):
Say, we're down with forty one kids nine through twelve.
So I mean they just got to.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Suck it up and go. They got getting great.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Sho will handle that last week? How are we abling
in most of you guys? It was good.
Speaker 9 (19:34):
Coach has always running during fall camps.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
There you go or prepared?
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Does the heat timeout?
Speaker 4 (19:39):
I always wanted those that helped y'all during the game
when they call those heat timeouts.
Speaker 12 (19:42):
Just really it does for driving them down the field, you.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Know, all right, Max, you like me, I'm over there
watching and I'm like, man, you just stopped, and the
other team's going to thank you. I needed that.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
But so yeah, it's kind of it's kind of daja,
I take it and give.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
But it is important though, to play both sides of that.
All right, tell me what you get better at?
Speaker 18 (20:02):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (20:02):
We can we can work on the little things.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
I could check on.
Speaker 12 (20:07):
Staying in the pocket, staying staying collected, not panicking sometimes
when when the guys coming up over the middle, I
get a little tense, uh, staying together. I mean, but
as a team, I think we did pretty good. We
put put things together, big plays. Brooks did a great job.
He's very humble when saying he didn't. He he told
(20:29):
me the other day he didn't think he had a
very good defensive game. I was looking at his highlights
and he had some really big hits. So I'm very
impressed with the way he played. Our O line did
a great job, perfect amount of time, uh to to
distribute the ball to our playmakers on the outside.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
So good for you.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
I really wasn't trying to get you talk about yourself
start with, but he did. I'm talking about everybody now,
I'm not you gonna have.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
To a hard hard to beat a buck. One thing.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Our line is stable and it's good.
Speaker 9 (21:04):
Not everyone knows plays perfectly yet, and we're still working
on that to get every one so they can get
in and be fresh, so we can have our good
guys on defense and offense so they can come out
and then when they need to.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
And then.
Speaker 9 (21:17):
We got messed up on some of our alignments on defense.
Sometimes we just got to get that tightened up, and
we worked on that during practice this week.
Speaker 14 (21:24):
We're gonna be ready on tomorrow to.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Be good. There. Do a quick turn around, body, all yeah,
I want to play. We're ready to go.
Speaker 12 (21:34):
Hopefully we can go get some some ice bath or
something after this, so we'll be ready to go for tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Coach, you get everything ready, I think so.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
I think we're ready to play.
Speaker 15 (21:42):
We playing a really good football team, you know, and
like Brooks said, everybody's got to do their job. And
you know, each and every week we talk about we
played teams that are better athletes than us and it's okay,
but we got to do everything exactly right to be successful.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
It's a good game. Last year I went to it.
It was a very good game. They had the field dedication.
We were right over there, and I'll be there tomorrow
night too. And let me tell everyone we've got auburn
oap Plake on the road. You're playing at home.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Need everybody over at just got absolutely mary about that right?
All right? Good to see both of you.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Tell your parents.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
I said, Helloa, goode yourself. I will take care of you,
all right.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Get him in the booth tomorrow night. That's where it
needs to be, all right.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
High School Coaching Show from Mose continues in a moment.
Speaker 11 (22:27):
Hey, and welcome back to the High School.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Coaches Shows live from Moe's Original Barbecue. That's brought to
you by the orthoped Clintic Gradick Dream Funeral Home in
Crematory and Gorye's Furniture Express. And next on the list
is Armor Highest Coach Keith Edward's good afternoon, Coach, how
were you good afternoon? I'm doing great, good great coach,
High and Mighty.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Today was a twenty four six win last week over Booker.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Yeah, it was a good good win, coach.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
That was a good win, good win.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
You know.
Speaker 19 (22:52):
We started off a little slow, got it down and
there inside the ten, had to set a four field goal,
but a great defense all night. Then we got some,
got some, they started bringing the house and we got
got got a couple over the top of.
Speaker 14 (23:06):
Them, you know.
Speaker 19 (23:08):
So uh sort of extended to lead a little bit,
and then we gave up a late from Lake touchdown
with our BB group.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
So yeah, you told the said coaches late in the game.
Yeah it was.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
And I saw the and the and we saw sat
Saturday morning that saw they scored late.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (23:26):
Yeah, Well we talked to him Saturday morning also.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
He sure did.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
I didn't even think about that easily forgotten. We talked
a lot man.
Speaker 11 (23:36):
He don't know what he don't know what he.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Ate here now consistent on cheese here at the mos.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
But yeah, anyway, everything they got is good. It is good.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
That's a consistent factory.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
And and like you said, the offense and defense. But
let's move to this tomorrow night coaching burn down Tavy Hills.
Speaker 19 (23:53):
Great football team. They got a great football team. You know, Uh,
Robert Evans does an unbelievable job. He's got a great
coaching staff, and they're gonna be you know, well coached.
And they look they look really good on film.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
You know.
Speaker 19 (24:06):
They they got their quarterback back who's really good player,
a lot of guys back on offense, they replaced some
defensive guys.
Speaker 14 (24:13):
But those guys play so hard. They're in the right
place all the time. That's what works.
Speaker 19 (24:17):
You can't get them really out of out of position
because they do such a good job.
Speaker 14 (24:22):
So you know, we're gonna have to come ready to play.
Speaker 19 (24:24):
They're gonna they're gonna tackle well, they're you know, they're
they're gonna make sure they don't miss blocks and stuff.
Speaker 14 (24:29):
So we gotta we gotta come ready to play.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
So they played a team of the South Carolina.
Speaker 19 (24:33):
South Carolina team play for the state. Yeah, they played
for the state championship last year, South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Really yeah, so that the West side has got a
good team.
Speaker 14 (24:42):
Yeah, they played them at best debut.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
So you were able to scout them, We saw them. Yeah, yeah, okay,
they bes.
Speaker 14 (24:49):
David does a really good job.
Speaker 19 (24:50):
They get they get you in some matchup issues and
you know, they do a really good job of finding finding.
Speaker 14 (24:57):
What you know, your your your weakness.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
Yeah, well your team responding coach on a quick turnaround?
Speaker 2 (25:04):
What are you thinking?
Speaker 19 (25:05):
You know, it's yeah, and well you know you hope
you make your biggest progression from you know, week one
to week two is what they usually say, you make
your biggest progression from week one to week two.
Speaker 14 (25:15):
So hopefully that that's.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
The case here.
Speaker 19 (25:17):
You know, we made some mistakes Friday night. Hopefully we
can we can, uh, we can correct those mistakes and
get a little better, you know. So, uh it's a
quick turnaround.
Speaker 14 (25:27):
Though, you know, you hate.
Speaker 19 (25:28):
Going into a game playing a really good team like
Lethstaviia and it being a quick turnaround.
Speaker 16 (25:33):
But they got a quick turnaround too.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Yeah, so it ain't no different.
Speaker 14 (25:36):
It ain't no different.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Yeah, they do, because you're always gonna you know, I
always hear this, and I didn't ask some other coaches,
but week one to week two, you're.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Supposed to get it. I hear you're supposed to be
a big improvement.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
You agree to that.
Speaker 19 (25:45):
Yeah, I think I think you should have a big improvement,
especially if you we hadn't play a spring game or
Janurey game.
Speaker 14 (25:51):
So I think that.
Speaker 19 (25:53):
That will that just getting them out on the field,
playing against an opponent, and you know, I think sort
of calm there nerves now, I think we're I think
our guys will be ready to get back out there
and play another opponent and try to correct the mistakes that.
Speaker 14 (26:06):
We made Friday night.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
Yeah, that's the only thing you can do.
Speaker 19 (26:09):
Is we turned the ball over a couple of times,
you know, but of course we called four or five turns.
Speaker 11 (26:15):
That's right. You feel good about your defense.
Speaker 14 (26:19):
I do feel good about my defense.
Speaker 19 (26:21):
As long as we stay healthy and you know, and
uh continue to you know, get some of these younger
guys a little bit of playing time, I think that
we're gonna be fine.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
How many.
Speaker 11 (26:30):
How many did you have coming back on defense?
Speaker 19 (26:32):
That's what I think we had seven or eight eight
back on seven or eight coming back had that many. Yeah,
we we lost our middle linebacker. We lost uh we
lost a couple of defensive linemen and a corner, so
seven I think because Michael Gunn went to Liberty. Uh
Pitts went to app State.
Speaker 14 (26:54):
Uh, you got.
Speaker 19 (26:55):
Jackson Lovern was our start middle linebacker. He's going to
Auburn University. And then we also lost, uh Kyle King
who's at UV wise and Michael Battles too. He played
a lot. I don't know if you know, he played
as much as anybody. He was a defensive line and
also but we we had we had a lot of
(27:17):
guys that play played a lot last year that wasn't
necessarily a starter, but played starter minutes. You know, Kyle King,
I mean not Kyle King, but uh Colin King, who's
Kyle King's little brother, you know, so he's stepping into
his position.
Speaker 14 (27:32):
So you know, we we.
Speaker 19 (27:34):
Got in a good group of kids back.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
You know, they they they've got a lot of playing
time last year, you know, playing you know, you kind
of I think later in the year it kind of
hurt us because our guys were playing a half.
Speaker 19 (27:47):
And then you know, younger guys will playing a half.
Now it's kind of helping us because those younger.
Speaker 14 (27:51):
Guys got to play a half.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
Yeah, a lot of coaches talking about that we didn't
played the whole game.
Speaker 11 (27:55):
Yeah, well he probably played fifty two.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
What was it.
Speaker 11 (27:57):
Fifty last year, seventeen las year. Yeah, they probably played
the second half.
Speaker 19 (28:02):
They played a lot of second about the whole time,
and now they're gonna play the first half.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Yeah, hopefully they probably gonna play the whole game. Hopefully,
want somebody else to play the second half. Yeah, I
wish just one, just one field goal to temp coach,
because if you know you did kick one, is that
the only one in that game? No?
Speaker 11 (28:21):
No, no, no Friday Friday.
Speaker 19 (28:23):
No, we we missed one to fifty one yard yeah,
fifty one. Yeah, he missed one from fifty But it
was it was like a it was kind of weird
because it's like you didn't get all the foot in
in it.
Speaker 14 (28:34):
It just came up short.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
It's right down the middle.
Speaker 14 (28:36):
We just came up a little bit short. But yeah,
he's gonna be fine. He's punting the ball.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 19 (28:41):
Yes, yes, I don't know if that that ain't his
all the coach college coaches are saying they think that's
that's his ticket, you know, and him being able to
do all three. Of course he kicked it in an
end zone every time we kicked off, so I mean, yeah,
it is big.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
That is so such a big nice. I mean, if
you got a punk man, you got a backup kicker,
if you got to if you get he signs as
a punter, you know that's right, and whoever gets him.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Being able to kick that in the end zone, it's
so big.
Speaker 14 (29:05):
Oh yeah, saves your dage, you know.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
All right.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
Coach is always good to see you with this Thursday
night game tomorrow night in Birmingham.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Turner and safe Traveler. Thank you guys, Tigers.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Keith, that's the Alver High football coach on live here
at the Coaches Show. We'll take a break, continue right
after this.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Hey, you're listening to the High Schood Coaching Show. We're
coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue and it's
brought to you by the orlt P D Clinty Frederick
Dean Feudal Home in Crematorium and Gory's furnas Express and
next up, So Valley's UH High School head coach Adam Hunter.
Good afternoon, coach. How are you hey, buddy?
Speaker 3 (29:47):
I'm all right, hey.
Speaker 11 (29:47):
You good win last week? Your a little payback?
Speaker 20 (29:49):
It was it was you know, I thought we played
really good first half and we kind of slowed down
the second half, got kind of complacent, could have put
the game away. I felt like in the third quarter
we fumbled on the one yard line going in into
the end zone and they got it for a touchback
that would have put us up twenty seven or nothing.
Speaker 21 (30:07):
So you know, you got to.
Speaker 20 (30:11):
Execute and put that game away, and we didn't let
them back in a little bit. They scored with like
twelve sagents left to go to make it fourteen. So
ended up, you know, winning the ball game, but it
felt like.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
You could have could have done a little bit more
than second half. Let's talk about some of your players
last week, coach, who did well for you on both
sides of the ball.
Speaker 20 (30:28):
Okay, you know, Offensivelkaten Foreman, you know, did a very
good job first half with his legs and with his arm.
You know, he completed some really good balls through some
good passes, had a good about fifty yard touchdown pass
to kind of ate my mind's gonna blank Tristan high one,
but through the deep ball really well, hit some rpo stuff,
(30:51):
read the defense well. So he finished the night like
sixteen for twenty two with two hundred and something yards
passing really good. I thought he could have done a
little bit better the second half, and he knows that
he's he's learning that and and he'll do better.
Speaker 21 (31:06):
You know, Brandez Eason ran the ball well.
Speaker 20 (31:08):
He ran it for I think it was fifteen carries
for one hundred and sixty nine yards.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Wow.
Speaker 21 (31:13):
So you know, he ran the ball very well. Offense,
lean offensive line did well.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
You know.
Speaker 20 (31:19):
The thing that I'm I'm really impressed with is our
receiving corps. You know, we all four of starting receivers
got a catch and they had multiple catches. You know,
we had guys with you know, four catches for forty
yards and six catches for fifty yards and and so
on and so forth. And Malaca McCullum stepped up. I
think he had like five catches for ninety yards. So
(31:40):
you know, we spread the ball around all of our receivers.
Speaker 22 (31:42):
And that's a good thing.
Speaker 21 (31:43):
Sure, So offensive that was a good thing.
Speaker 20 (31:47):
Defensively, Brandon McCullum outside linebacker played really well.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Excuse me.
Speaker 20 (31:53):
Inside linebackers played well, especially Mason Yarborough.
Speaker 11 (31:57):
He played real well.
Speaker 20 (31:58):
He let us in tackles, but him and Brandon really
really played good. Brandon also had an interception, you know,
And we played good upfront. I thought, for you know,
the three defensive linements that we're working right now, it
started and played really well.
Speaker 21 (32:12):
And two of them hadn't played a whole lot of football.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
You know.
Speaker 20 (32:15):
Antoine Hatchett, you know, he played really good. And uh
he's our starting defensive end as a senior. He's played
the last two years. But he's got a motor. You know,
if I can get all my guys to have a
motor like him, we'll be doing really good. But so
those are the guys that really led us and did
a really good job.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Well, it was a good win coaching. Like you said,
they scored with twelve seconds left. They did reserves in there,
you were you know, we we had the ones in
that unit. But you know, it was a long game.
Speaker 21 (32:40):
I mean we played almost three and a half hours.
Speaker 20 (32:43):
I thought the first half felt like a whole game,
and I think that kind of led to both sides
kind of struggling the second half. You know, it was
just kind of a sloppy second half on both sides.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
So you know, it was.
Speaker 20 (32:56):
Tough, but it was humid and hot, and we got
some guys going both ways.
Speaker 21 (32:59):
Just got some guys going both ways, and it's tough
in that heat.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
All right, coach, next week you go, well, this week,
I'm sorry, not next week. Friday night, you go to
Smith's station. They had a big win. They beat y'all
out of Columbus. I don't know anything about y'all lotta
from Columbus. Maybe you can feel the scene. I'm so
sure you've seen film.
Speaker 20 (33:15):
Yeah, you know, I think I think they're a different team.
I think they're well coached. I think, you know, fundamentally
say they they do what they do.
Speaker 21 (33:24):
Uh, And he's gonna build off of that.
Speaker 20 (33:26):
You know, he's he's you know, double winging it and
under under center, and you know he's gonna be able
to add to that every week as his kids get
comfortable and they're learning it. So you know, he's doing
a really good job and they're gonna be tough. I mean,
they're they're they're an improved team. This guy some confidence
right now. So you know, you know, I think I
think we've got our hands full.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
I really do. We got to really play good.
Speaker 20 (33:48):
We gotta play a lot better than we played Friday
night in all phases. So you know, uh, Defensively, we've
got to read our keys. We gotta tackle well. You know. Offensively,
we got to capitalize because with what they do, they
hold the ball a lot, so you know, we got
to take advantage of the every snap we get offensively.
Speaker 11 (34:05):
How big are the coach? I mean, there are a
seven eight school?
Speaker 2 (34:07):
How big? How big is their offensive line?
Speaker 3 (34:09):
Oh?
Speaker 20 (34:09):
They're they're big, you know, Yeah, they've they've got some
big guys up there. So you know, they're averaging probably
six foots, you know, six foot two, six foot one,
six foot across the board up front, big old boys,
you know. So we we got to work cut out
for us.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Right at you.
Speaker 21 (34:26):
Oh yeah, they're coming at you. So you know, we
got to tackle well.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
So we gotta we gotta be played.
Speaker 21 (34:30):
We gotta play pretty good up front. That's that's gonna
be key.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
What do you gotta do offensively? How is how are
they defensive shut They shut shall out, Yeah, they did.
Speaker 20 (34:38):
You know, I think we've got to we got to
take care of the football went on first down is
what we always talk about. But we gotta do us.
We got to get the ball in space to our playmakers.
We've got to you know, establish the run with Brendez
and and run our game, you know, and and uh,
I think Caden's got to to to kind of read
the defense and command it.
Speaker 21 (34:58):
And you know, take care that football.
Speaker 20 (35:00):
And those things are gonna be key to sustaining those
drives because you're not gonna get many of them offensively.
So you know, you got to capitalize every time you
get the.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Football Week one of the week two. Every coach of
TEA is probably the biggest improvement for the team as
far as you know how they play, They settle down.
You know, they're a little more disciplined. Your tight end, coach,
do you throw to your tight end?
Speaker 21 (35:21):
Well, you know, we don't. We don't use a tight
end a whole lot, right.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Okay, because you said you every receiver he had four
receivers get multiple catchers, so he spread it out pretty.
Speaker 20 (35:29):
So yeah, I mean we got we we we spread
it out and we do go a little twenty personnel,
but it's with a little sniff or so, you know,
we we we do some things. But you know those
receivers that did a really good job. More importantly, they
blocked on the perimeter. Well so you know that's a
good thing as well too.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
And Brenda's like said, right, well, yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
That's right.
Speaker 20 (35:48):
He's he's a baller. You know, he knows how to
set up them blocks and everything. So he's he's a
really good, you know kid. And uh has done a
really good job.
Speaker 11 (35:55):
For Punton kicking coach.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
How was you.
Speaker 20 (35:57):
Did good punt and kicking? You know, I got a
kid this just now, first first year playing football because
kicking the ball, well, we missed one field goal extra morn,
i should say, but it was a little bit of
it was tipt and just didn't block well. So we
we corrected that this week and hopefully, you know, we
can do that.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Kate Riley did a good job for us.
Speaker 20 (36:17):
Puttonandson, Yeah it is that's mister Riley's grandson.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Uh, the newly elected re elected your kicker coaches, did
you did you put him off the soccer field?
Speaker 20 (36:31):
Pulled him off soccer? He had to come from something Santiago.
He's uh, we get a trip out of San Diego
every day. You know, he's a he's a blessing to us.
He he's really done a good job. Got a strong leg,
so you know he's learning it too. Uh, he's excited
about it.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Yeah, he's pumped up. So it makes a difference. Does
that's a that's my start talking about. That's what makes
a difference. You ain't kid well, Coach, It's been a
pleasure to talk tool. I appreciate it. Thank you. I
hope you guys play well and walk away would have
on the road you Adam.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
That's coach Adam Hunter and the Valley Rams at Smith Station.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Friday Night.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
We're at Mose Barbecue. High School Coaches Show on.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
The Kicker, presented to you by Mose Barbecue, Frederick Dean
Funeral Home, Gory's Furniture, and the Orthopedic Clinic.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Continues in a moment, Hey, welcome back to the High
School Coaching Show.
Speaker 11 (37:22):
It's just Aster de Mark Mitchell.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
We got Earl Lee on the end in controlling command
and Coach Corson from Beulah is up next. Coach. I'm sorry, Coach,
I was I was introducing this coach. It's good to
see hey. Of course, the show is brought to you
by the Orthopedy Clinic, Frederick Dean Funeral Home and Crematorium,
and Gory's Furnace Express Coach Courson. Last week, big win
(37:44):
against Abbeyville. Yeah, yeah, scoring.
Speaker 11 (37:46):
A lot of points.
Speaker 23 (37:47):
We did, our guys played. I mean there's a lot
of things we had to correct, you know, go over correction.
But for that first game, come out that brand new stadium.
Our guys competed well and play hard, and I was
super proud of them for the way we played.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Got all about a new stadium.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Coach me, ain't. I don't say you didn't mention it either.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
I'm talking about Jeff for people I don't know, not
Coach Dorson just giving me the bad.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Look Like I'm just saying, offensively, who looked? Who plays
well for you.
Speaker 23 (38:17):
To uh well? Camanie Lindsay there running back, he had
a couple of touchdowns, went over one hundred yards. Cam
Baker is a guy that came out as if this
is his first year playing with US. He's a senior.
He's a basketball guy, but he plays some H four
US and he let it up. I mean, he had
a couple of touchdowns too. He's a he's a he's
a really good ac.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
Did you talking me into coming out for football?
Speaker 23 (38:39):
Coach Well, I told him he's an athlete. It's his
senior year. You know, all that's gonna make you better,
being around a bigger team and being something, you know,
being a part of something that's bigger than yourself. So
and he's in the weight room more so, I'm telling
you he's a stud on the court.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
Who is.
Speaker 23 (38:57):
Cam Baker? He played really well. I mean our quarterback
played good, he managed the game well. Defensively, we played
pretty good. Uh you know, our first team defense gave
up a touchdown first play of the game, seventy seven yards.
You know, we kind of over pursued and our outside
linebacker kind of got stuck inside and gave up the edge.
But they went seventy seven on the first play, and
(39:18):
then they scored again in the fourth quarter on we'd
you know, we'd put some of our second team thirteen
in just trying to get them some reps, and they
kind of got down the field on us there. But again,
Coach Pepper had a really good plan. Coach Johnson on offense.
I mean we we uh we were able to you know,
work on some things too, So it was a it
was a good night.
Speaker 11 (39:38):
Well next week, coach.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
It sounds like they scored first and last would be
about right, y'all scored all.
Speaker 17 (39:43):
In between possible, they scored last. They did score first
on first play.
Speaker 20 (39:47):
So.
Speaker 11 (39:49):
Pretty good that what I was thinking.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
Seventy on the first play and they don't score the game.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Next week, he traveled to we're home that they change
so we could change. I did not.
Speaker 11 (40:01):
It's on my schedules at you don't play.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
We did that. We had to change it.
Speaker 23 (40:05):
I think they had some delays at their field.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
So they're not playing the more.
Speaker 23 (40:08):
Well, we're playing Friday night at Beulah. Okay, they had
some delays and kind of yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Was invited to for that dedication there. I think they're
moving that.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
Yeah, yeah, that he is here.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Yeah all right. Yeah, Well than that, they played a man.
They played a tough game last week. Bullet County is
a good team. Yeah, they were good last year. They
had a lot of a lot of talent coming back.
The only putting the only team that really put a
whooping on him was Jackson. Yeah, they put on everybody.
Everybody Nonette.
Speaker 23 (40:45):
Uh, you know when you look at film, you know,
we watched last year, watched last week, you can tell
they got older, they got stronger and more experienced they are.
They are very aggressive to the football. Their front seven,
their defensive on sevens Bearer Grissi football number five, they
got number five. He's a he's a dude. He plays
(41:05):
some end and then they'll turn around and play sniffer
and he can kind of go out into like a
tight end sept. But he's really, really, really good. He's
got great hands, great feet. He's just aggressive. I mean,
he's everything you want. And he's got a high motor.
So we're gonna have to know where he's at at
all times. Their their quarterbacks good, he can run around
with it. They got a fast running back. They just
(41:26):
got speed. They got athletes. I think you know, maybe
you know, I think RJ probably agree. They were a
little young young last year. They're growing up. So you know,
you look at the tape at the Bullet County Lynette
game and you're like, you know, Lynette right there with him.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Made a little baby.
Speaker 23 (41:39):
You know, they got speed, they got size, so Leannette,
they look good, man, I think they're gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
How do we match up speed wise with him? Coach?
Speaker 23 (41:46):
Speed wise, I mean, I'd probably give them the edge
as far as speed at those critical positions because they
got they got some linebackers to get downhill too. They're
outside linebackers want to get after it. And our guys,
you know, I'm not going to say we're slow, but
as far as you know, watching them from Friday night,
they they they were downhill and everyone ball. You know,
(42:08):
we were trying to kind of build a wall. We
gotta play a little bit different style of defense. We
want to force everything back to the middle where but
they attack and they look good.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
I mean, I know, I know the score. You know,
they lost.
Speaker 23 (42:18):
I'm sure they upset about that, but they look good.
Five looks good, of course, and I think they for
the most part, I think they played a good game
against Bullock County. I think they just, you know, some
self inflicted wounds on offense kind of hurt them some.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
So they look good. How are your health wise, coach, Actually.
Speaker 23 (42:35):
You know, injury wise, we're good. I don't know if
there's like a bug going around or what, but we
got a couple of guys got a little sickness and
you know, going to the doctor and you know they
nursing that. So you know, we are little devotion today
was literally titled can you go? So you know that's
what we went over. I mean, can you know your
number is gonna get called? Can you go?
Speaker 2 (42:54):
We gonna need you to go? So there you go,
all hands on deck absolutely this week? Uh yeah, go ahead,
you got anything?
Speaker 4 (43:02):
Yeah, I was just gonna ask you overall with your
special teams coach, where you thought about that.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
I don't know if I missed that point.
Speaker 23 (43:06):
Yeah, well, get our special teams up. We had some
problems snapping the ball on our extra point, so that
kind of you know, gives you some hesitation when you
get downder in the red zone. You want to kick
a field goal. So you know we had a fourth
and eight. You know, you last year you got read
maloof a all state kicker.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
You know, you just say, hey, get.
Speaker 23 (43:24):
To the field goal unit out there, and this year
we're like, you know, we'd already dribbled some balls back there,
so you know, we went for it there. So there's
some hesitation there. But he's had a we we swap snappers.
He's looked good. Brody Brody Peacock is doing some's doing
some of those responsibilities for us. And and Luke's our kicker.
He's had a good week, so you know, maybe that's
(43:44):
something that we got some confidence in that can kind
of help us Friday. So overall though, and then our
kickoffs will look good. We you know, we had some
miscommunication Friday. We're playing Abbeyville. We're up, and we told
our kickers, like his back's hurt, so we told him,
I think our kicking coach said, we'll just pooch it.
We'll pooch to him man on side kick, a surprise
(44:07):
on side kick, so that that that wasn't too happy
with that one. So you know, I don't I don't
want we don't want to play like that. So they
know that and we've kind of we've corrected that issue.
But but overall, I mean they look good kickoff, kick return.
We we've done a solid job on that. We continue
to work on that.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
So well, I know it's important coach, and I know
you know, you know he can win and lose a game,
absolutely sure. Now one more question, heat and you playing
guys both ways, everything goes.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
Okay, I know it wasn't extremely hot, but it wasn't
too hot.
Speaker 23 (44:34):
And we've been blessed this week.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Man, it's been beautiful.
Speaker 8 (44:38):
It ain't too up.
Speaker 23 (44:38):
But no, we're playing guys gally that we don't have.
We don't have one guy just plays offense, just plays defense,
so that they got to go both ways, you know,
we get when you got thirty eight, you know, so
we go both ways and we try to rotate them
in as much as we can, but it is what
it is and they know that. So, like I said,
can you go and you gotta.
Speaker 4 (44:55):
Go see I appreciate you.
Speaker 23 (44:59):
Yes, sir, Friday at seven o'clock, both.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
Teams right there. Interview. You're listening to the High School
Coaching Show at Moe's Barbecue. We'll continue after this break.
Speaker 4 (45:12):
Hey, good evening, Welcome back to the High School Coaches
Show here at Moe's Original Barbecue, Bent Creek in Auburn, Alabama,
and we're glad to have everybody tuned in here with
us on this beautiful Wednesday evening in Lee County. Mitchell,
Jason Leezer, engineer Jeff Sasher here, Whitney Van Riggs were
all set at Moe's Barbecue, and we're glad to have
all our coaches here, and we're glad to have you listening.
(45:33):
Our next team up as Southern Christian eight men, the Patriots.
They are currently what is two and old now they've
beat Faith Christian thirty five to six last week. Ezekiel
Academy sixty one twenty four, gentlemen, coaches, good evening, Good evening,
Coach Scott, Coach Miller, congrats on the wind last night
a last.
Speaker 17 (45:48):
Week, Yes, sir, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 3 (45:50):
Coach sixty one twenty four. Tell me about it a
little bit.
Speaker 24 (45:54):
Well, this is our our the closest thing we have
to a rivalry game.
Speaker 5 (46:00):
Uh.
Speaker 17 (46:00):
So we really we really got up for it.
Speaker 24 (46:02):
The uh the guys are hungry coming out of Gatlinburg.
Really didn't see what we wanted to see up there.
Speaker 17 (46:09):
Uh they had they had.
Speaker 24 (46:11):
A good team, but the competition, if you've seen the video,
wasn't just wasn't really there. So our guys are they're
really really really ready to get into it with some
guys and no better opportunity than your you know, rival.
So Ezekiel in the past has been a really great program.
The numbers are down a little bit this year, and uh,
they do have their their playmaker coach back coach. Coach
(46:34):
Hunter is back at Ezekiel this year, and he's always
been someone that is very competitive. He takes them to
the national championship down in Panama.
Speaker 16 (46:44):
City just about every time he coaches.
Speaker 24 (46:46):
And he is down a little bit this year with
his squad, and he'll have him coached up by the
end of the season.
Speaker 17 (46:50):
So we're glad that we got him at the beginning.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Of the season.
Speaker 24 (46:54):
Uh, and we may end up seeing him again. It'll
be a whole whole different ball game. Then it'll be
a whole lot.
Speaker 17 (46:59):
More a fight.
Speaker 24 (47:01):
But uh, it was a good game for us. Our
offense was clicking on all cylinders. Jagger wasn't ready to
play yet. He's he's got a bad, bad scab and injury,
nasty thing from the turf field up in Gatlinburg, So
we try to limit his playtime a little bit.
Speaker 17 (47:17):
So he really didn't play a lot of offense.
Speaker 24 (47:19):
And but uh, Jed's got my other son, the other
twin came up, Big Miller. Miller can give you the
stats on Big Big Him and a lodgah Bailey show
stoppers in that game, and we also had some of
the other younger guys. One of our younger guys actually
got hurt.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
Uh j R.
Speaker 17 (47:36):
James Riley.
Speaker 24 (47:37):
He's an eighth grader, but he plays like eleventh grader
and uh Jr got a broken foot in that game.
Speaker 17 (47:44):
And so, uh he's out for the season. Maybe he
may be able to make it back by Panama, but
we're not sure yet. But it was a great game.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
No doubt.
Speaker 17 (47:51):
The crowd was fantastic.
Speaker 25 (47:53):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (47:53):
The weather was kind of tough in the beginning, little
rainy and nasty, but it got better.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
Good.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
It sounds like it's a good win. You want anything,
coach Mo.
Speaker 26 (48:00):
Yeah, so uh, our playmakers had the game of their life.
Jed Scott four catches, one hundred and eighty four yards
and four touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (48:08):
Wow.
Speaker 26 (48:11):
We used it as like he's a human joystick. He
caught the ball and juked everybody out for Yeah, four catches,
hundred and eighty four and four touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (48:21):
And then Uh, Elijah Bailey our quarterback.
Speaker 26 (48:25):
With Jagger not out there, and we had him carry
the ball a few more times and uh he had
nine carries.
Speaker 5 (48:31):
Two hundred and one yards.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Gracious, Now all.
Speaker 26 (48:34):
His passing yards was all all of them was about
the jed. He threw for one ninety five out of
the JED got.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
One nine and ran for twenty five. Carrie, Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
There you go, all right this week? Like, no, you're
off this week? Yeah, I don't have it in here?
Speaker 8 (48:53):
Is now Baker County?
Speaker 3 (48:55):
Baker County, Georgia, all right?
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (48:58):
Uh wait, yeah, that's right. Where is Bacon count.
Speaker 27 (49:01):
They're up around Douglasville, Georgia.
Speaker 11 (49:03):
Okay, we can figure that out.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
We talked about him this morning when we read the
schedule more it was Baker count Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
We did four and.
Speaker 17 (49:08):
A half hours for us.
Speaker 27 (49:09):
And when we go to them next year, to be
it'll be a long trip.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
That's a long ride to Hall Flats, as they say
it is.
Speaker 17 (49:15):
Yeah, they so Baker.
Speaker 24 (49:18):
We played them in the showdown at Springwood, the five
B five. We got to play them in that, and
they showed a lot of potential. They got a good
passing game. I don't I don't have any idea about.
Speaker 17 (49:28):
The running game.
Speaker 24 (49:30):
But we played them twice in the shootout that coach
Joey talked about so much, and uh well, actually the
second game was very close. We beat them by one
score and it came right down to the last few seconds.
They we're fixing to try to throw throw one deep
on us and beat us, and they just ran out
of time. So it's gonna be fun in the passing area.
(49:51):
Jagger would be healthy. He'll be back one hundred percent
by then, and so the running game is gonna be
a little outsided.
Speaker 27 (49:56):
We think, you know, there's no video out on them.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
So I was about to ask you with Georgia.
Speaker 24 (50:02):
Being in Georgia, I've contacted, you know, the teams that
they've played, but there's really it's.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
What you know. We were, Yeah, we were trying to fit.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
He told me this morning, y'all play Friday.
Speaker 17 (50:11):
We do, we play Fridays.
Speaker 24 (50:13):
He takes Trendy will play some Thursday games Friday games.
Speaker 11 (50:17):
So they're playing Thursday this week. Chris, thank you. That's
what we were trying to it up.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
After you left.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
This is when I got okay, all right, because I didn't,
but I was. I was thinking their game was next
week when he texted, which game was the Black and
Blue Bowl years ago with Ballard Ezekiel. Okay, that was
that was now. Evangel there's two. There's two bangels, right,
one in Alabasta, one in Montgomery.
Speaker 17 (50:37):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Okay, that's right. I get Ezekiel in evangel confused sometimes. Okay,
thank you. I'm glad you cleared that were about because
we talked about the Black and Blue Bowl.
Speaker 27 (50:47):
You know that was a big that was a big rivalry.
Speaker 24 (50:50):
Similarly, we have we have taken on that rivalry with
Ezekiel just being sort of in proximity and we you know,
because we are closed.
Speaker 17 (50:58):
We play them in every sport we have, and.
Speaker 24 (50:59):
So, uh, all of those sports lead to a lot
of things going on that tend to rival us.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
Up.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
Tell me about braidon Jersey.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
He kicked the ball?
Speaker 3 (51:07):
Is he doing kick? A good job kicking?
Speaker 2 (51:09):
I want to know about old Braiden.
Speaker 17 (51:10):
I'm gonna let coach.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
Miller tell me about Braiden.
Speaker 26 (51:12):
So yeah, he's uh, he's kicking the heck out of
that ball warm ups. He's hitting from fifty in Gatlinburg.
I don't know if he just kicks butter on a
turf field. Uh, I mean he had ten yards of
spare on that fifty.
Speaker 2 (51:25):
I'm about that. I'm about that making his extra points too,
and all that.
Speaker 24 (51:28):
Oh yeah, yeah, he's missed one. He's missed one extra
point and it was you know, my son. Yeah, yeah,
well that's right, it's my son's fault. He was squiggling
around with the ball and then kicked it at the
last second and got it blocked.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
So well, sounds like he's doing He hadn't kicked before
either has into No, see, you know you're punting too.
Speaker 27 (51:44):
He's not punting yet.
Speaker 24 (51:45):
We actually have him working on that to see if
he can if he can punt it as well.
Speaker 17 (51:48):
So, Uh, he's got a strong leg, got a really.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Strong playing is the other player?
Speaker 2 (51:53):
What's it?
Speaker 11 (51:54):
Was he a European football player?
Speaker 20 (51:55):
No?
Speaker 2 (51:56):
No, No, he played, so he did he did? Yeah,
I'm sorry, Yeah, bad question there.
Speaker 3 (52:01):
He did play something.
Speaker 17 (52:02):
So he actually grew up playing soccer with re.
Speaker 2 (52:04):
From Yeah I knew that. His daddy told me.
Speaker 3 (52:08):
I kind of forgot, but Jeff told me that.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
Well, I'm gad he does. He plays something else. Besides,
he's able to play his shoulders.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
Okay, he's able to play.
Speaker 17 (52:16):
Right, his shoulders in good, good shape.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
Uh strong.
Speaker 24 (52:19):
He plays some tight end for us, they'll play some.
He's I think he's a defensive end, he's down the
roster a little, but he still gets in there from
time to time.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
Good deal.
Speaker 4 (52:28):
All right, So you got a home game Friday night.
He's a big crowd at Moore Stadium.
Speaker 17 (52:31):
We need the big crowd. Come see everybody's county.
Speaker 27 (52:34):
Yes, sir, and uh, you ain't doing nothing else.
Speaker 17 (52:37):
Come on out. It's a great place and.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
I'm probably gonna come by and see a little action myself.
Speaker 17 (52:40):
We'd love to have you more.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
Yes, sir, you got it. Coach. Good to see y'all.
All right, there you go, Southern Christian.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
They're playing that. You got it.
Speaker 4 (52:45):
We'll be back after this as Southern Christian. More coaches
to come here on the Coaching Show.
Speaker 7 (52:55):
Quarterback here on the High School Coaches Show, Van Riggs
jumping in here for de Mark and Jip as we
continue running down all the area matchups coming up this week.
We got the Boar Guard Hornets joining up with us
right now. Coach Shannon Mottley and coaching. It was your
first game as head coach at Boar Guard. Didn't go
the way you'd wanted, but uh, let's talk about it
a little bit about the game against what Tump guy.
Speaker 25 (53:14):
Know.
Speaker 7 (53:14):
We were talking off aair you said, a lot of mistakes,
a lot of things to get back to the drawing
board on from week one to week two.
Speaker 2 (53:20):
Right, you know, we we we played a decent first half,
you know it, but we made those little bit of mistakes,
you know that that you normally making first games, you know,
and it being you know, fresh in the year, you know,
and these kids they played hard, especially the first half,
you know, and at halftime. You know, we come in
(53:41):
twenty two nineteen and you know, we're having a we
were having a hard time getting getting plays off from
offensive standpoint. You know, we had some delayed games and
stuff like that, and also the same thing second half,
you know, and then we'd have a good play, we'd
make some good plays, and then we'd get a holding
(54:02):
penalty or something like that. Just seemed like we'd kind
of stay behind eight ball, you know, just you know,
it was first and fifteen, the first and twenty uh
and it's just hard recovered from from that. From my
offensive standpoint, defensively, you know, we made some plays and
it makes play. You know, we'd have them third down,
third down and third down, then give up a big
(54:24):
play and give them the first down or jump off
side or something like that. Just just little bitty like
mental mistakes and or just out of position plays, you know.
And but those are the things that we continue to
work on. We worked on this summer, but we continue
to work on this week and hopefully we're gonna be
ready to play Friday.
Speaker 17 (54:44):
Now.
Speaker 7 (54:44):
This to note too, we're talking to bore Guard coaching
and Motley, and you know, you were playing a team
that's a six eight team, a team that's bigger than Boreguard,
being in the five A classification, so you know they're
going to be deeper, you know, have more guys to
go to. And did you notice that a little bit
on the on the enduring the game?
Speaker 22 (54:59):
I know, was it a little bit?
Speaker 2 (55:00):
You know, we uh, we had some guys that got
a little tired, you know, and being this early in
the season, you're gonna have that happening. Ramping always cramping
was was was awful with us Friday.
Speaker 8 (55:11):
It was a humid night.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
I know it.
Speaker 7 (55:13):
We're hope liking. Boy, it was just it was so
thick and it's so humid. I didn't notice it in
the press spots, but I was talking people after the
game when we were leaving you could just tell the
thickness in the air, and uh.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
You know, it wasn't it wasn't hot hot, but it
was it was kind of human, you know. And and
then we had a lot of guys to cramping. Man,
we were cramping early in the game. I don't know,
you know, we we we try to keep them hydrated.
We had gator ready for them before the game, but
you know, and that's that's that's important, you know. And
then we try to stress up during the week too.
You know, you can't hydrate on Friday, you know, you
(55:46):
got it starts earlier in the week. You know, you
gotta you gotta get those get those electric lights in you.
Speaker 7 (55:51):
I know, coming from coming from widely, you know, you're
used to playing a lot of guys both ways, and
then you used to playing a lot of guys a
lot of snaps. So sometimes cramps it just like you
just can't avoid them, almost, Like you said, you do
what you do during the week, but sometimes it just happens.
Some people just cramped too, right.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
See, I'm used to having guys play the whole game,
you know, and you know, I don't know, we just
were cramped up, and you know, like I say, everybody
early in the season like this, they have that issue,
but you can avoid it somewhat. You know, they say
pickle juice, you know, and some guys drink pickle juice
(56:27):
and then mustard or something, you know. But we we
had some of those issues Friday. But you know, it's
just those little bit of minimal mistakes really that hurt us.
Speaker 7 (56:39):
All right, board Guard, you got another home game, another
chance to to get your first win at home and
against Anniston. I know that's a team a few years
back that was, you know, deep into the playoffs and
they didn't play this past week, so they're really, you know,
kind of a lot of unknowns about them, isn't it right?
Speaker 2 (56:55):
You know, Aniston. I think it's gonna be a typical
Aniston team. You know, they're gonna they're gonna be very athletic,
They're gonna have good size.
Speaker 17 (57:04):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
They always have a quarterback that they can throw the
ball fairly well and can run the ball fairly well.
And you know, I'm I'm expecting that same thing this Friday.
And if I'm not mistaken, they I think they're ranked
number five and four a you know, so, and I mean,
you know from based off of last year. But they
(57:27):
they're gonna be very athletic. They're gonna have some guys
you know that can they can cover us offensively, you know.
And uh, I've noticed that we don't we don't have
any really any any fam film on them because they
didn't play last year. But you know, they I know
they do have. They got a good, good middle linebacker
(57:48):
and he's a he Rick's Havoc. He's a good, good athlete,
and he gets after the ball. And I know the
quarterback is good, and and then and they're running backs good,
you know, and their old line block fairly well. They're
just gonna be a there'll be a typical Aniston team.
Speaker 7 (58:05):
I think you'll have a good opportunity to have a
really good crowd too, Coach, because I know there's a
lot of kids from Opelaika and from Auburn and least
Scott that if they're looking for a football game, that'll
be a big opportunity for them to come to boor
Guard because those all three teams are playing on Friday night.
Coach Poke as well, so I know there's a chance
for me to get out of the Guard and h
So that'll be it'll be exciting to hopefully have a
big crowd to pick up the first win of the
(58:26):
season and in front of your home fans too, right, you.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
Know, that's what we're kind of hoping for. You know.
I can say a lot of those teams played on
Thursday night and stuff, so we we're hoping we get
a good crowd, and you know, and we had a
good crowd last last week. Both both sides had a
good crowd.
Speaker 7 (58:41):
You know, Field a Jumbo trying look good man, it
did turn out.
Speaker 3 (58:45):
I never even really looked up there till after the.
Speaker 8 (58:47):
Game, and I want the score to look different this week.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
But they had then they had cameras and they were
up close and personal with some people, and I'm like, man,
this is yeah, it's different what I'm used to, you know,
but that's right. But it is different for that community too,
called this first year to have that, right, you know,
it's exciting, you know. And then it's good that they
were broadcasting some of our sponsors on there too, so
(59:11):
you know it back, I think it is good and
it helps.
Speaker 9 (59:13):
All right.
Speaker 7 (59:14):
I want to see some big highlights up there, some
good place in Boardguard this week, and I hope. So
all right, just appreciate it. Thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (59:20):
That's coach Shannonmightley, head coach of the Boar Guard Hornets
home game coming up Friday night against Anniston.
Speaker 8 (59:24):
Good luck to them.
Speaker 7 (59:25):
We'll continue with the High School Coaches Show coming up
on the way here on the Kicker. We'll go back
here on the High School Coaches Show. Van Riggs jumping
in here for de Mark and Jeff as we continue
running down all the area matchups coming up this week.
We got the Boar Guard Hornets joining up with us
(59:45):
right now. Coach Shannonmightley and coach, I know it was
your first game as head coach at Boar Guard.
Speaker 8 (59:49):
Didn't go the way you'd wanted, but.
Speaker 7 (59:51):
Uh, let's talk about it a little bit about the
game against what tump Gun. I know we were talking
all fair, you said a lot of mistakes, a lot
of things to get back to the drawing board on
from week one to week two.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
You know, we played a decent first half, you know it,
but we made those little bit of mistakes you know

of stay behind the eight ball, you know, just you know,
it was first and fifteen, the first and twenty uh
and it's just hard to recover from from that from
offensive standpoint. Uh. Defensively, you know, we made some plays
and didn't make play. You know, we we'd have them
third down, third down, and third down, then give up
(01:01:03):
a big play and give them the first down or
jump off side or something like that. Just just little
bitty like mental mistakes and or just out of position plays,
you know. And but those are the things that we
continue to work on. We worked on this song, but
we continue to work on this week and and hopefully
we're gonna be ready to play Friday. Now.

Speaker 8 (01:05:58):
Thanks so much, Thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:05:59):
That's Shannon Motley, head coach of the bar Guard Hornets
home game coming up Friday night against Anniston.
Speaker 8 (01:06:03):
Good luck to them.
Speaker 7 (01:06:04):
We'll continue with the High School Coaches Show coming up
on the way here on the Kicker.
Speaker 11 (01:06:15):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
It is Jeff Assid d Mark Mitchell, we come to
you live from the most original barbecue that's brought to you,
of course by the Orthopede Clinic, uh Gory's Frontishi Express
and Jeff Frederick des Feudal Home and Crematory.
Speaker 11 (01:06:34):
I'm sorry we got that high school up next.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Last week, Bullock County coach coach taught how good they were,
you know media days now Book Counties coach coach Vines
tell me about that guy.
Speaker 18 (01:06:49):
Yeah, yeah, so, uh, you know, we get down there
Book County, I just want to go ahead and say, like,
Bookounts really good football team. I think they're gonna be
just finding that in that four A region. But you know,
we get down there, we go up fourteen to nothing
going into middleway through the third.
Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
Uh, we're playing really good football.
Speaker 18 (01:07:07):
And I'm gonna tell him our our defense was playing
lights out, top tier defense of football.
Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
Play all all through the night. And you know we
run down with some young guys.
Speaker 18 (01:07:18):
You know, after some of our starters go down and score,
and we put some young guys in and they didn't
run the lanes on the.
Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
Kickoff, so they took the kick off to the house.
Speaker 18 (01:07:27):
Special He's got us and we got we got you know,
special teams cost us ten points. So you know that's
that's on me. You know, I'll carry that one. I'll
carry that one and we uh we'll you know, keep
it moving and have to learn. But you know, I
thought our defense, you know, Coach Williams, Coach Cardon, Coach
Webb Smith, mccam all those guys did a great job
(01:07:49):
as far as uh fighting.
Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
And pushing to make sure we're you know, doing what
we need to do. Coach he is, he is, he
is him forever. Yeah, yeah, he's doing really good.
Speaker 25 (01:08:03):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Coach Wells doing our second dary force.
Speaker 18 (01:08:05):
Those are outside linebackers, and coach Cardon does our line
inside linebackers, and coach Smith and McCant split our d
line for so they do a really good job. I
have heard from yeah, yeah, oh artist will one only.
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
He's come in, you know he should come with he'd
fill in sometimes. Yeah, and he'd throw all those nicknames
out there, and I was like, well, I said, coach, coach,
you got everybody don't know these nicknames he had.
Speaker 11 (01:08:30):
He had a nick name for everybody, And.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
I was like, who you talking about? But you know,
we talked to coach. It's pretty easy to figure out
who I was talking to him. He said, he watched
the fan on of you guys, and it's two fast
teams that played. Yeah, oh yeah, for sure.
Speaker 18 (01:08:45):
I'll be honestly, there's some really high quality athletes on
that football field Friday night.
Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
And even in those conditions. You know what I mean,
who's number five? Uh?
Speaker 18 (01:08:52):
Number five is uh Jeremi mcgilberry's committed to play a
defensive line at Alabama A and M. He's he's he's up,
and he's monster. He spoke about number five man, number
five as a dog man. I don't say that lightly,
you know, since since I've been in the net. He's man,
he's special, he care. I'll be honest with He's our enforcer.
Speaker 5 (01:09:11):
You know.
Speaker 18 (01:09:12):
He's the one we kind of got to rein back
sometimes because his motor never stops and he's like that. Yeah,
he played every snap, but probably we think probably like
seven seven, five or seven like something in there the
whole game. I think he came out for three plays
in a row on offense.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
And now they don't try to block him as one person. Dude.
They tried.
Speaker 18 (01:09:32):
It did not go good because he had eleven tackles
in the first half. Okay, you know, yeah, he finished
the game. I think I want to say, you finished
the game with fifteen tackles to set two and a
half sacks.
Speaker 8 (01:09:42):
Yeah, like three for loss.
Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
Like he was dominant. He puts a couple of guys
on him. That means, yeah, your linebackers are running now.
We talked about your linebackers running down hill pretty good.
Speaker 18 (01:09:53):
They really did, man, Like, I think, you know, the
biggest thing for us is, you know, I let coach
speak on it though. I thought defensively we were just
really sound, like they were fundamentally sound.
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
I let coach touch on that though.
Speaker 28 (01:10:06):
I mean, basically, just to tell the two halves, we
kind of ran out of gas midway through the third
quarter when they got the momentum the kick return. If
we go down and make a tackle, right though, we
pretty much put it away. Yeah, we give Bullet kind
of credit. They were consistent, they fought through it, and
they just stayed in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
Hey, we talk about it with every coach. We talk
about special teams. It can win or we can love lose.
Speaker 5 (01:10:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
Yeah, hey this week we got Beutelah High School. They
beat Abbyville last week. That you know, he's had some
solid performances. I think his receivers did pretty good. He's
got a running back it's pretty good, and his quarterbacks
very capable. What do you gotta do, Coch?
Speaker 18 (01:10:46):
Yeah, you know, I think offensively, you know, speaking from
last week, we gotta we gotta continue run the football.
And you know, I think for us up front, we
you know, we've got a really big line. They ran
for We ran for a lot of ours. We just
got to hang on to the football sometimes, you know,
quarterbacks gotta gotta be a little more patient. We can't
make aggressive stuff happen, you know what I mean. But
(01:11:08):
I think for us, you know, offensively is kind of
just set the tone, set the tempo, come out. And
I think they got a really good defensive front. I
think they're very athletic, they move around. They got some
big guys. You know, he got some pretty good guys
in the secondary too. You know, like uh five is
a really good football player. You know, I think he's
a he's a real he could play at a lot
of levels, especially running back, and you know, defensively, I
(01:11:31):
think we can.
Speaker 25 (01:11:33):
Is that.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
I think it's Lindsey maybe think so Kamani. I think
a lot of our kids know their kids, you know.
Speaker 8 (01:11:45):
But he's a really special football player.
Speaker 18 (01:11:47):
I think he had over a thousand yards last year,
you know, and so we gotta we gotta try to, uh,
you know, corral him up. But offensively, we just gotta
do what we do man, and and you know, try
to run that football, control the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
And that's what good things to say. After they were
young last year. Now they ain't young guys I'm talking
about yeah, yeah, some players.
Speaker 18 (01:12:10):
Yeah, we just we just gotta stay healthy, you know,
I think. And also to you know, Friday night, we
had a couple of guys go down and that that
kind of hurt us. We were in a pretty bad spot,
especially offensively, Like we were out there with an eighth grade.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
So they okay, are they going to be back for
this game? Yeah, hopefully.
Speaker 11 (01:12:24):
So.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
It's coach played bight grader. We have learned learned from him.
One of your linebreakers. It's probably one of the eighth
graders and started eight grader. I can't remember who.
Speaker 18 (01:12:36):
We got an eighth grader playing outside linebacker. He played
for coach Williams and uh, he he's special. Now he
went down last night u Junior high eighth grader run
for I don't know what he ran for two hundred yards,
probably had like four touchdowns. I mean he's just special. Yeah,
and uh but you know we, uh, we're really excited
about him, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
PJ.
Speaker 18 (01:12:56):
Stickers. Uh, he's a man. He's gonna be one of
the next great ones out of there.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
I can tell you that.
Speaker 11 (01:13:01):
Okay, well, coach, good luck.
Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
Hey, now your first your first the opening for Cliff
story Field will be Barbara, Barbara County, Barbara County. That'll
be on the twelve. Okay, we were thinking of this week.
I already got advitation. I didn't get one.
Speaker 17 (01:13:16):
You know, you're always I didn't give Look, I don't
even know where de Mark is.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
Come over here.
Speaker 8 (01:13:25):
De Marks gone. So you you can come on any time.
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
Leave him here and I'll I'll pray. I'll bring Coach
Washington with you. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:13:33):
That sound was great.
Speaker 11 (01:13:34):
All right, good luck Friday night.
Speaker 5 (01:13:36):
That was that was on that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):

kids meals you named Redneck nacho inedneck Nachos fits you. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
They got the adult beverage and they got water like
I drink.
Speaker 2 (01:14:20):

the porch. Got TV's everywhere. You can watch your favorite
game in your team.
Speaker 5 (01:14:28):
And you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
I am thrilled to have.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
Coach Shannon Motley from Bareguard making his first appearance of
many at our coach show.
Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
Good Sea Coach, I'm glad to be here. Yes, sir,
do you have a good meal? I did, man, they
bark you sandwich in there. Man, it was good. I
think this is probably the first time I'm eating here.
Why I've said that, I've driven by several times, you know,
but and it was good good.
Speaker 4 (01:14:49):
I told her to get ready to have a long
several seasons of Mose Barbie about thirteen weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
That sounds good.
Speaker 3 (01:14:55):
And I met you boys too.
Speaker 11 (01:14:56):
You got a fifteen would be nice?
Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
Goo, yeah, fifteen would be Thanksgiving and we're breaking bread
on that week. Now you got a fifteen year old
and twelve year old. Yes, yeah, yeah, they're looking young
men until after they take after mama.
Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
I'm yeah, had to do that all right.
Speaker 4 (01:15:12):
How are things that bore our first year coach Brian
by the way, coming off a state championship, might I
widely it was?
Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
That's why there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
You know, I got started pretty much a week or
two into the summer. Yeah you were, you were kind
of late. So but man, those those kids have been working.
You know, I bragged on them all summer. They they
come in there and I their work ethic is it
is is boring none, man. They they came in there
and and grinded. You don't even hardly have to get
(01:15:42):
onto those kids. Man, there and there and they work
hard and and they get after it. Uh in the
weight room, you know, So I mean you got to
make you feel good. It was kind of surprising, you know.
And uh you know that's due to to the coaches
that they're there. You know, they they kept it going
and you know, so you know, I got a good,
(01:16:04):
good coaching staff man. They for card and they'll put
in the hours, you know, So you know it's exciting
for me. You know, it's it's a different atmosphere because
of the numbers. You know, number wise, I'm used to
having about about thirty five kids, you know, Uh that's
(01:16:25):
seven through twelfth grade, and here I am with seventy,
you know, just nine through twelve. So but that's the
only thing. You know, Football is football, you know. So
you know when when when it turned the lights on
Friday night, they we're gonna we're only gonna have eleven
on the field.
Speaker 3 (01:16:43):
They are too, you know, so uh, block and tackling,
it's the same.
Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
That's that's what it's all about.
Speaker 9 (01:16:49):
It.
Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
You get three dawns to get when you get four
to get ten, I mean not want to put on fourth.
If you don't, I'm just giving you a hard time here,
all right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
So when you get there, what do you do when
you first rune? You gotta learn them so much. I
can't imagine learning.
Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
You know what I mean. He had to learn everybody well,
you know before I even got there. That seemed like
I met four hundred people, you know, uh there, you know.
And then then I'm trying to remember these kids names,
you know. And I brought them a cheap sheet tonight, man,
because you know, if y'all asked me about somebody, I
may have to look it up. I gotta ask you
(01:17:23):
one name, coach, yes, oh yeah, he don't have to
look that name up.
Speaker 11 (01:17:27):
Making sure you met him.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Oh yeah, I have coming well in the in the
broadcast team him and yeah, yeah, I met with them
this week too. They give him a low down on
what they're gonna have going on. But the care guy, they're.
Speaker 4 (01:17:43):
Awesome guy and do a great job. I cut over
and listen to him every week. Check the story out.
Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
All right, So tell me a little bit about we
Tumpkin and we're gonna come back.
Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
To your time.
Speaker 5 (01:17:52):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
We's gonna be gonna be with tunking. You know, They're
they're gonna be athletic, they're gonna have good size because
which over there. He's good. He's a good guy. He's
good coach. You know, I know they're gonna be prepared,
you know, and you know last year it was a
close ball game. And that's I don't I only have
(01:18:14):
a couple of films, a couple of films on them,
But I don't really think they're gonna change a whole
lot from what they have been doing. But you know,
I don't know so, but I know they're gonna be
They're gonna be a physical team, and uh, they're gonna
be very athletic. And I told I told the kids today,
(01:18:35):
I said, you know, we're we're starting out with with
with two good football teams with Tumka. Then we turn
around play Aniston, you know, and by then we're gonna
know who we are, you know, because that that's that's
too good football teams we're starting out with.
Speaker 11 (01:18:50):
You know what's good about it though, coaching at home,
I ain't nothing like being.
Speaker 2 (01:18:56):
Field. The playing surfaces ready redid the field and it
looks good. And they they've had a little bit of
drainage issues on the edges and stuff, but the playing
surface is is good. It's in good shape, you know,
So I mean it's ready to go. That's what you
want to tell me about your team. Let's start on
(01:19:17):
offense and then we'll go, you know, offensive line. I
think I think we've got a purdacent offensive line. You
know that we're big, you know, and then we got
we got good strength up front, you know.
Speaker 6 (01:19:31):
And then.
Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
Quarterback nic o' key right now, he's he's a thick kid,
young kid in tenth grade and he's he's really picking
up what we what we're doing offensively, more of a
runner when he's more of a sit back in the pocket,
(01:19:54):
top guy, you know. But now we do have a
got a couple of running back Tafe Oeman. You know,
he's a he's a thick guy, real thick guy, and
he's a he's a power runner. He's he's a he's
a downhill guy. Strong.
Speaker 25 (01:20:11):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Them got Jeffery Holloway, he's a he's the other running back.
He's he kind of scatted back. And man, we got
good receivers. Our receivers Jordan Jackson, Kanye Billinsley, man, they
are they're very athletic. So you know that as far
as our you know, our quarterback is he's young and
(01:20:31):
he's new and he's fresh, but he's got the surroundings
that's I think it's gonna help him out, you know.
It's what it's what we're kind of banking on, you know,
and that and I think once he gets a little
bit of confidence, he's gonna be fine back there all right.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
Flipping on the other side.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
On defensive side, you know, we we we've been playing
kind of fast. You know, we're run. We're gonna base
out of three four defense and uh, you know, we
got some cat race. He's gonna be starting to nose
guard for us. And then we got I'm gonna have
(01:21:12):
a senior linebacker, you know, and the secondary while we
were I say, we're fairly young, but we got two
juniors in the middle playing rover U J. J. Jones
and Cam I gotta remember Cam Bowen. Uh he's playing
roll for us. And then we got Austin Jackson playing
(01:21:36):
corner and uh t J. Ligan playing another corner. I'm
trying to remember all these games. So that's hard to do.
I'm trying to think of these guys names.
Speaker 3 (01:21:48):
I couldn't do it first of you, like, and I
know I know most of them.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
I know a lot of their faces, you know, and yeah,
you're looking at them through him too now and then
then and then I'm having to deal with nicknames too. Yeah,
I'm the worst on that. Yeah, I get a nickname.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
That's his name.
Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
But you know, we we I think we're looking pretty
good defense and I'm defensive guys. I knew that, and
I started with I think we got a lot of things.
We still got a critique down because of the things
we're doing is a little bit new to what they've
been doing.
Speaker 5 (01:22:23):
When you sit fast and.
Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
Uh, you know, we gotta do a little bit better job.
I noticed theuff. We gotta do a little bit of
better job breaking down because we were playing so fast,
we will over overrun. Seen some fast teams that get
you on the backside and instead of instead of corral
to the quarterback that in the pocket, will go past
him in the quarterback and run underneath. You know, the
(01:22:47):
effort that you kind of is hard to kind of
tough their effort, but it's the wrong effort, right and
then and then those screens a kid, you know, so
you know that's that's that's one.
Speaker 5 (01:22:58):
Of them dangs.
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
If you do than if you don't, haven't fast. As
long as we as long we're fast, we get after it.
Speaker 3 (01:23:05):
You know and wrap up.
Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
I think we're gonna be fine. Special teams real quick.
We got music about to go bout you get, uh,
special teams. Man, they've been working hard. You know, we
we got we got fred a good kicker. I think
we've got a good partner, man Lane Wilson. He's been
he's been punting for us, and uh, he's got a
good lady. He's actually a backup quarterback too. He didn't
(01:23:29):
play last year. Uh, he's more of a more of
a baseball type type guy. He came out this year
and he may end up get some snaps at quarterback.
He's an athletic guy, and so he's gonna help us
out somewhere or another because he's fairly athletic.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
Jeff and I'll be out you play soon, coach, Yes,
all right, we'll be there. Thank you, Good luck you
every week to meet your family over there.
Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
Yes all right, coach Shennon Motley here with a board
guard on it. We're at moves. We'll take a break.
Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
We've got plenty more which is coming away from those barbecue.
Speaker 11 (01:24:05):
From Back to the High School Coaching Show.
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
We're coming to you line from Moe's original Barbecue and
of course, it's brought to you by the You or
to Betty Clinic, Frederick Dean Funeral Home and Crematorium, and
Gorye's Furniture Express. And next up is NOA. Suga High
Schools coach Kevin Huff Coach, Good.
Speaker 14 (01:24:22):
Afternoon, Hey, how you doing today?
Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
I'm doing very well. Last week you had a jamboree
game against Ghoshen. You want to talk about that one, coach,
because I mean, it wouldn't nothing what I haven't seen
anything reported on that one. Absolutely I want to talk
about it.
Speaker 5 (01:24:35):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
It was a heartfelt game.
Speaker 29 (01:24:39):
Really really saw some things in our team that I
really wanted to get accomplished, really wanted to get established
early on. Not the ideal situation coming in because of
the rain and how mugg it was, and but our
kids rose.
Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
To the occasion.
Speaker 29 (01:24:56):
We didn't let the elements around us affect us, and
so we were very productive, got a lot of things
to work on, fixed them and were ready to move
on from you.
Speaker 11 (01:25:05):
Now I controlled was this coach?
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
Was it?
Speaker 11 (01:25:07):
I mean, did you did you kick? Did you do
all your special team stuff?
Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
That was it?
Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
Live?
Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
Kicking was dead? Okay?
Speaker 29 (01:25:13):
So but we did see what we needed to see
both coaches, and I wanted to see because more wanted
to see his kicker do what he needed to do.
Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
And he got a darn good one too, does man.
Speaker 29 (01:25:26):
Oh he was kicking for the five yards at a
pre game and he lost two balls and he was able.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
To achieve it.
Speaker 5 (01:25:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
Where was where was the coach at before we got
the Gosha? I do not know. I was just saw.
I just saw something about that he just got I
think he just got there. And first coach like you, yes,
pretty good. Yeah, I gotta find that a good coach.
A great man too as well.
Speaker 29 (01:25:51):
I got much respect for for that guy because he
did us a great favor by by let us schedule
this game and him coming up and with the great house,
telling that his kids showed it.
Speaker 7 (01:26:01):
I know you're excited to play a home game too,
because we're just talking't gonna be a wild for you
have a real home game.
Speaker 29 (01:26:05):
Absolutely, that's the one I really wanted to get. Get it,
get it back home, get it back going. So our
kids really enjoyed it, our fans showed up with great
support that not the sub community is is coming back.
So that's that's that's what I want to do, just
create a great positive environment so our kids can get
get wooted on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
Hey, well next or not next week? Gosh, coach Friday Night,
Barbara County County coach ware.
Speaker 11 (01:26:32):
You know about that right?
Speaker 22 (01:26:35):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:26:35):
Oh, he's without a set. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Hey
won last year forty three to six. We're going there
this year. I I want to say we're back. When
I say well, I'm saying no, the Souckle is a
better team this year than they were last year. Well,
we hope, so, we hope so. And I don't know
anything about Barbara County. I do know that, knowle Cuckus
(01:26:56):
four and oer against them all time.
Speaker 7 (01:26:58):
Yes, Okay, well I know when kids it's look at things,
and this could be tough because they're gonna look at
Barbara County and look at their past and they go
they win one or two games, that's a pretty good season.
I mean, it's been a struggle for them historically. And
you gotta tune that out, right because.
Speaker 29 (01:27:11):
You've got to go one to know, right, right, we
gotta go one to know the The scene has been
set this week, you know, focus on what we have
to do right, not so much what Barbara County has
to offer. But if no the Suga does what know
the souger needs to do, We'll be okay.
Speaker 7 (01:27:26):
Yeah, And what do you think the big things you
had to work on from the jam berie before you
get a win in regular season? What are the things
that you saw that you got to tune up on.
Speaker 29 (01:27:34):
Defensively, recognizing the defense, lining up, getting line right, knowing
our responsibility defensively, playing hard, don't worry about.
Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
Any mistakes and finishing. That was our main thing on defense.
Speaker 29 (01:27:47):
Offensively, just executing, getting to play in executing at a
high level and being consistent.
Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
Your quarterback play, How is it, coach, tell tell us
about your skill guys right now, skill guys.
Speaker 29 (01:27:57):
Mister Tatum, Mister Jacob Tatum, mister Jacob Walter Tatum, And
that's what we call him. Some people call him Walter.
We like to call him Walker, but the team called
him Jacob. He's have a lifelong.
Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
Legacy in the note Suga areas.
Speaker 29 (01:28:10):
He's the last one out of out of many generations,
but he's our quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
He did a real tremendous job of game managing.
Speaker 29 (01:28:18):
Had one little mistake down in the red zone, but
other than that, we were able to overcome it. But
he showed out and did some things and we're going
to run behind our pat level with our awesome running
back in theas fountains. He's one of the fastest guys
in one day. You know, he's runner up in the
state and one hundred meters and so he can. He
(01:28:39):
can really took the ball and he has a lot
of hours on the football field as well.
Speaker 7 (01:28:43):
I'm gonna have to ask coach Jan Williams from Lafayette
what the magic sauce was at Barbara County because since
he left things have gone down here. In fact, at
twenty fourteen five games and that was, you know, a
historical markin for them, and ever since then they're kind
of falling off the map. He could probably tell you, yeah,
he had the magic formula, whatever it was. But coach,
I hope you you don't give them a win or
(01:29:04):
any momentum. Hopefully you go over there and start, want to.
Speaker 2 (01:29:06):
Know, that's not the plan.
Speaker 29 (01:29:07):
The plan is to go want to know, Finnish strong,
not come out of winning any injuries, be as great as.
Speaker 5 (01:29:13):
We were the week before.
Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
All right, well, coach good luck appreciate that right, appreciate it.
Speaker 17 (01:29:18):
We'll be back.
Speaker 7 (01:29:19):
High School Coaching Show continues after this, coming up on
the way.
Speaker 8 (01:29:22):
More to come here for most barbecue. Here on the kicker.
Speaker 11 (01:29:32):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show.
Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
It's Jeff Sische, d Mark Mitchell, Jason Earl Lee in
command control. And next up is Pacelli High School, Saint
Anne Pacelli, sight of Columa's coach, Smitty Grider by the
way where Mo's original barbecue. And this this this broadcast
is brought to you by the Or's Speedy Clinic. I
know you've had some dealings with them and your absolutely
in your lifetime. Frederick Dean Funeral Home and Crematorum and
(01:29:54):
Gory's Furniture Express. You probably bought some furniture out there
at some point.
Speaker 8 (01:29:58):
I have bought some furniture out there as a matter
of fact.
Speaker 11 (01:30:00):
Jimmy Gory is a good guy.
Speaker 30 (01:30:02):
He is.
Speaker 11 (01:30:02):
Hey, you won titten On.
Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
You got to get it.
Speaker 8 (01:30:06):
You got tenel Square Academy.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
All right, you won last week we did twenty eight
to see all right, tell us about that game.
Speaker 30 (01:30:15):
Well, obviously it sounds just like it was. The defense
played really well. They they scored on a long pass
play was their only completion of the night. They were
one one for eleven throwing it shut down the run.
We played it extremely well defensively. Didn't play as well
as we'd like to of offensively, but I mean we
scored twenty eight points. You know, we didn't turn the
(01:30:37):
ball over. It was a good night. We're still kind
of growing offensively. You know, it's kind of been a
work in progress. Totally new offense for these guys, something
they're not used to doing. And we're getting better every week.
And that's the challenge that you know, we give the
kids is to be better this week than we were
last week. And so far we've done that, you know,
(01:30:58):
and we need to do that again this week. So
we're growing as a team and as a program. You know,
got a new quarterback that's kind of he's getting a
little more settled in and a little more comfortable with
the offense. And still battling a little bit of the
injury bug. Our kid that had to pull the hamstring,
Jason Davis. He was not able to really be affected
(01:31:20):
Friday night, but a running back played played extremely well,
Cam Carino. He had about one hundred yards on about
eight carre he's had a sixty nine yard touchdown run,
so he was full speed and was a good night.
Speaker 11 (01:31:33):
Yeah, all right, who's your opponent this week?
Speaker 30 (01:31:35):
We play first Presbyterian Day, who was also out of making.
Speaker 8 (01:31:39):
We've got to go over there Friday night.
Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
It seems like I've heard that one before.
Speaker 30 (01:31:42):
They're a very good team. Yeah, that may be why
I've heard of They're really good there. You know, the
teams in this league are very similar to the over
the mountain schools in around the Birmingham area and you
know your Homewoods or vest Davias, you know Hewitt's those kinds.
That's kind of the mix of athletes that you see
in the coaching. You they're very they're extremely well coached.
(01:32:04):
They're the kind of teams that are very good at
what they do. They don't beat themselves and and they're
you know, they're they're gonna be tough, they're physical.
Speaker 2 (01:32:13):
Uh.
Speaker 30 (01:32:13):
This this group played for the state championship last year.
They've got a lot of guys back. They're a very
good football team, extremely well coached.
Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
Yeah, that's they're probably smart too.
Speaker 30 (01:32:25):
Yeah, yeah, I mean everybody in this league got to
be pretty smart. Stay in the schools that they go to.
Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
So that's what it sounds like. I knew I'd heard
that name before. Somebody had played them from over here.
Speaker 30 (01:32:34):
And yeah, probably so because they were they were really
good when they were in the g h s A
over there and over here for me, but uh, in
Georgia they're they're they're very good. And you know, it'll
be a tough game, a game that we can win
if we play well.
Speaker 2 (01:32:50):
Uh.
Speaker 30 (01:32:50):
And you know, we don't have to go play over
our heads or anything like that, just play play our
kind of football.
Speaker 11 (01:32:56):
We talk about it. Are you hosting now or you
gotta try to know?
Speaker 30 (01:32:59):
We got to go that we hosted last week and
we're on the road this week.
Speaker 11 (01:33:02):
As far as Making about two hours from us.
Speaker 30 (01:33:04):
It's about an hour and forty hour forty five. Ok yeah, okay,
I'm just drive through the middle of nowhere to get there.
Speaker 2 (01:33:10):
You go through Fort Valley. No, you I know what
you do, coach, You go, you go ninety six all
the way to seventy five, asking me some questions.
Speaker 11 (01:33:18):
You that's what you did.
Speaker 30 (01:33:19):
I know, going when we went to Stratford, which is
in Making, two weeks ago that that was the middle
of nowhere. So you know, you get outside of Columbus
and it's nothing, and then you get you know, you
go through County. Yeah, one little sm you go through
Peach County.
Speaker 11 (01:33:35):
Yeah, you go by Peach County High School.
Speaker 8 (01:33:37):
You go right by Peach County House.
Speaker 11 (01:33:39):
You'll see the stadium.
Speaker 30 (01:33:40):
Yeah, I know, and U and mean it's just I
went over there and scouted Stratford before we played them,
and I drove back.
Speaker 8 (01:33:47):
It was dark.
Speaker 30 (01:33:49):
I saw at least twenty deer on the way back
on the side of the road driving scared to death.
One of them is gonna run out in front of me.
I mean, it's it's you know. But anyway, if you
do have Fort Valley State over it, yeah, yeah, I
mean over towards making or any naked.
Speaker 11 (01:34:04):
It's in Fort Valley.
Speaker 8 (01:34:06):
You go through that little just a little bit.
Speaker 11 (01:34:07):
You missed that part. You you go by that, I
know you.
Speaker 2 (01:34:10):
I know the way that y'all playing this week, I'm
in getting in there.
Speaker 8 (01:34:12):
Yeah, we're playing the make Okay, we play first.
Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
Very good team.
Speaker 30 (01:34:19):
Mark. They're they're extremely uh well coached. They've got some
hard nosed kids and they do what they do. You know,
you they're not gonna change for anybody, and you've got
to stop what they do. They like to run the
quarterback and uh, you know, get him heavily involved, and
he's a really good player and he's the key. When
you stop him, we'll have a chance. Is this a
better team than Tatten? Yes, Okay, they're a lot better
(01:34:40):
than Tattle. Uh, they're they're they're on the level with Stratford,
but they're they're different. Stratford's a little bit more wide open,
a little bit more athletic. This bunch is more downhill
right at you. But they're they're similar in that they're
both really well coached and they both do what they do,
you know what I mean. The game plan doesn't change
(01:35:00):
a whole lot from week to week.
Speaker 11 (01:35:02):
What's side the body spend most of your time on?
Speaker 8 (01:35:04):
Here, I do it on both sides.
Speaker 9 (01:35:06):
Uh.
Speaker 30 (01:35:07):
In the past, well, I know, you know, last year
I called offense, and so now I'm kind of I'm dabbling.
Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
Over there a little bit more than I used to do.
Speaker 30 (01:35:16):
So and so I do a little bit of both,
and uh, you know, we we we have to kind
of do it that way to get and we're all
a new staff, you know, and they're still learning me
and learning what I want to do, and I'm not.
They're not running my defense. So I've got I'm adapting to,
you know, figuring out now they're running what I told
them I wanted it to be, but it's their terminology
(01:35:36):
and all that stuff, and so I'm I'm learning that
and so I got to spend some time there and
there's some little things that I want to do that
it's a little different than what some of the people
there are used to doing. So we're still adjusting to that.
But it's good man, you know, it's this is a
big game for us. It's just because they're they're really
good and this you know, we need to keep it rolling.
Speaker 11 (01:35:58):
But Chelly Travels are making the play first Presbyterian Day.
Speaker 17 (01:36:01):
That's it.
Speaker 11 (01:36:02):
I've heard of that Friday.
Speaker 3 (01:36:03):
I have to I have to.
Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
Good luck coach, get right, Thanks guys.
Speaker 8 (01:36:07):
I appreciate y'all.
Speaker 2 (01:36:08):
Having That's all everybody, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
There you go, coach, Miity Grider and Pcelli. We'll take
a break. Have more coaches from Mose Barbecue as a
coaching show continues.
Speaker 31 (01:36:22):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches Show, where
Moe's barbecue and pleased to be joined by the Lafet
Bulldogs and coach Jan Williams and coach welcome, glad to.
Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
Have you here to day. Hey, good to be here, Yes, sir.
Speaker 31 (01:36:35):
Big win week one when UH hosted Elwood Christian at home,
got that first home game out of the way and
a big win fifty one to six. Let's kind of
recap that tell us what you're proud of and kind
of expectations week one? And did did they meet the
obviously the score met it, but you know some goals
y'all had for the team coming in.
Speaker 8 (01:36:52):
Well, we fell like we got.
Speaker 2 (01:36:53):
Out to a slow start.
Speaker 32 (01:36:54):
Well, we scored first, played a game, but got out
and played on the played to the level for a
little while, and then we we started playing ball like
we want to do in the FED. These coaches I
got with me offensive and defensive, did a great job.
We got a lot of things that we got to
clean up. We felt like we're cleaning up this week,
getting ready for game two. We felt that our kids
(01:37:15):
played fairly well to be the first game. You know
you're gonna expect different things to happen in the first game.
A little slow starts, little signments not being kip or whatnot.
But we felt we got better as time went on
with that.
Speaker 31 (01:37:29):
Yeah, also and we got coach carswell whetherson coach, I
know you handled the offensive side of things. Tell us
your thoughts on week one and your offense there we
played well.
Speaker 33 (01:37:39):
Keymar uarantine I got a stance here.
Speaker 20 (01:37:41):
He was.
Speaker 33 (01:37:43):
Four for seven, one hundred and thirty yards past with
one touchdown, had six carries for forty six or Russian
and that was pretty much in the first half. So
we kind of toned it down with him a little bit.
He's really grown up as as a leader and still
still put a lot of on his shoulders as a
This is the second year starting the quarterback, so he's
(01:38:03):
still trying to fill it out and try to understand
what it takes to become a leader from the quarterback position,
and we was very proud of him and some of
the things he done with the ball. So we had
a great job up front with our offensive line, who
we were leaning heavy on this year. Jayden and Lacy
are running back. Ninth grader rushed for one hundred and
(01:38:25):
three yards rushing with two touchdowns on eight carries, and
then Jeremih Whitlow had a thirty two yards on two
touchdowns with seven carries, so we destribed the ball pretty well.
They did a great job of protecting up front and
you know, opening up the holes, which we were expecting
them to do, so you know, did pretty good for.
Speaker 2 (01:38:46):
The first game. Yeah.
Speaker 31 (01:38:47):
Absolutely, anytime you can put fifty on the board, that's
a good opener. And coach a name that's not new
to a lot of us in the area, but new
to the show, introduces to y'a other coach here.
Speaker 32 (01:38:59):
Got this guy, you know, great guy man, been knowing
him for a lot of years. Met him when he
was recruiting my school with ten eleven years ago back
in Barbara County. The Marco McNeil is our defensive cordator
this year. Thankful to get him on our staff and
(01:39:20):
he's made a great contribution of being that and did
great things for us for our first game. You know,
just put them one to six and that speaks for itself.
So I let the man and Mith talk for himself.
Speaker 31 (01:39:32):
Yeah, absolutely, Coach McNeill, the welcome first of all. Second
of all, you know week one, you come in defense coordinator.
I only got sex on the board. Tell us about
your defense.
Speaker 25 (01:39:41):
Yeah, that probably was six too many. The kids they
played well, you know, they did everything we asked for
them to do. How they played fast, they played field
school on. One thing we talk about is creating turnovers,
and we did a great job creative full turnovers Friday night.
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
But I'm just looking.
Speaker 25 (01:40:02):
Forward to the game one to game two leap that
I think they're gonna be able to take just by
them getting their feet wet and knowing what I'm expecting
out of them and them being more comfortable in the defense.
Speaker 2 (01:40:16):
So it was a it was a nice sight to see.
Speaker 25 (01:40:21):
Them playing and having fun and you know, creating plays
and and and getting the victory.
Speaker 31 (01:40:27):
Yeah, huge performance week one, Coach Williams. Before you get
into the region Gauntlet, you got your first away game
going to Central Hangbo there. Talk about your thoughts here
and going into week two. What are you looking for
from week one to week two? To progress growth?
Speaker 32 (01:40:43):
You know, clean up the mistakes we made in the
first game. See what growth is the offensive defensively where
you want to see growth.
Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
That's the main things. It's week two.
Speaker 11 (01:40:56):
You know, either you get better you get worse.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
So you know we got it.
Speaker 32 (01:40:59):
We want to see if we got better this week.
You know, we feel we have, but you know Friday,
well we'll know for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:41:06):
Yep.
Speaker 31 (01:41:07):
And Coach Carswall on the offensive side of ball here
coming in Friday. Obviously put fifty points on week one,
very good performance, but we know they gotta be ready
again for a week two. So what's some of the
things y'all been working on this week?
Speaker 33 (01:41:18):
Playing with a little bit more intensity on the offensive
side of the ball, you know, being more aggressive.
Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
We took some shots Saturday. On Friday, I'm sorry.
Speaker 33 (01:41:27):
And we want to continue to make the big plays
when we need to and then get out there and
sustain some drives. So this Friday we have that same
task at hand. We want to get out there and
play well. You know, our guys they love to play fast,
and that's the thing we preached to them, you know,
playing fast, play loose, you know, and we want to
continue that that trend going into the game Friday.
Speaker 31 (01:41:51):
Yeah, and Coach McNeil, I know you said six points
too many, only gave up sex there week one. But
what are y'all been working on defensively? And I want
to say here week.
Speaker 25 (01:41:58):
Two, defensively, we got do a better job last week
to this week's containing the ball not in the plays extend.
I think a couple of times they got outside the
pocket and it kind of hurt us a little bit.
We got a tackle better with more physicality up front,
and so but you know, you expect for those things
(01:42:18):
to happen and to grow from that, and so that's
what I'm looking forward to. And then, like I said,
continue to play fast. I just want them to play fast.
If they mess up, let's mess up for full speed.
And so I'm just looking for them playing well and
playing fast and getting the job.
Speaker 31 (01:42:38):
Then and Coach finally, two or three keys to a
huge road to victory on Friday.
Speaker 32 (01:42:44):
Night, heart, stamina, and awareness.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
There you go.
Speaker 31 (01:42:50):
And I can't let y'all go with out. I know
we got Coach Patella in the house tonight too. We've
got the best administration in the state Alabama. Don't wait here,
high school. The shout out, I guess that's the shout out.
Speaker 2 (01:43:04):
That's it.
Speaker 31 (01:43:05):
Best in the business. Well, guys, thank you, good luck.
On Friday nights, y'all hit the road.
Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
Appreciate you. All right, We'll take one more break.
Speaker 31 (01:43:11):
We'll be back with Southern Christian right after this High
School Coach Show on Kicker ninety seven point seven.
Speaker 4 (01:43:17):
High School Coaches Show continues here at Mo's Barbecue. Our
show was brought to you by good friends right here
at Mose Barbecue. We want to thank them and Gory's
Furniture Express, Frederick Dean Funeral Home in Crematory, and the.
Speaker 3 (01:43:29):
Good folks at the Orthopedic.
Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (01:43:32):
We're moving right along here, Jeff at Moe's Barbecue.
Speaker 4 (01:43:35):
We appreciate Mo's and great stuff they do for us,
and something all our coaches Southern Preps with us in
the house. Coaches, we've got Coach Peebles and Coach Pace,
I mean coach Jr.
Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
Coach Peebles, and we've got Braden Pace quarterback. We're missing.
The head said, okay, we'll get to you. Coach People's
coach Jr.
Speaker 3 (01:43:52):
He's an athletic director and also special teams coach. How
are you, unite, Coach?
Speaker 22 (01:43:55):
I'm good, sir. How you doing good last night?
Speaker 17 (01:43:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:43:58):
We are, we are, And thank you very much for
me in here with us.
Speaker 2 (01:44:00):
Thanks.
Speaker 3 (01:44:01):
Yeah, all right, and then introduce this young man with
your quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
You got this is.
Speaker 22 (01:44:05):
Our starting quarterback. Mart see the quarterback Brandon.
Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
Pace, Brave Pace, Brad. How you doing, man, I'm doing good?
Speaker 2 (01:44:10):
How about all right?
Speaker 3 (01:44:11):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:44:11):
Tell me about your game last week you played Cornerstone Christian.
It was a lost forty four to fourteen. But tell
me a little bit about the game.
Speaker 34 (01:44:17):
Yes, sir, it was pretty good. At the beginning, we're
holding on strong and get them. Like towards the end
I could tell we got tired. We're lower on the players,
so we don't got much stuff. So we tried our best.
We fought hard, but towards the end we kind of
like we did score as much got you.
Speaker 3 (01:44:32):
The longer the game, y'all kind of wore out with
time with your energy, right, yes, sir? Right, where are
you from?
Speaker 2 (01:44:38):
I'm from?
Speaker 34 (01:44:38):
Uh Smith Station.
Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
Really just said what class.
Speaker 5 (01:44:41):
Do you have?
Speaker 2 (01:44:42):
Twenty eight?
Speaker 3 (01:44:43):
Okay, so you're a sophomore?
Speaker 5 (01:44:45):
There you go?
Speaker 2 (01:44:45):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:44:45):
Coach yall are you tell us it was forty four
to fourteen? He kind of knew it, did he get right?
Speaker 27 (01:44:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 22 (01:44:51):
He got it right.
Speaker 35 (01:44:52):
You know our school is very small, right this year
we got a small enrollment, so you know, things were
working through getting players, getting younger players up there to
play give an opportunity to some of our players that
probably wouldn't have played if we had a bigger team, right,
so we were still able to see some of that
stuff and uh and get them some playing time at
that varsity level. About seven eighth graders, eighth and ninth graders,
(01:45:14):
ninth ninth graders, and then some of our sophomores that
that that weren't on that started role that we're able
to get in there and get some games. And you know,
we got banged up and dinged up on our with
our seniors and our juniors things that we were covering
from and uh, you know those are always good to have.
Speaker 22 (01:45:29):
Those experiences for those for those players, right, So that
way we know how deep our death truck really is.
Speaker 3 (01:45:34):
Yeah, you're right, I mean players, total players you have
right now? We have seventeen seventeen.
Speaker 11 (01:45:40):
It's roster sized. A Cornerstone.
Speaker 2 (01:45:42):
This is a team Cornerstone has been a team that's
been pretty dominant the last few years. Uh.
Speaker 22 (01:45:48):
You know, I can't remember off the top of my
head what they came in with, but more than us,
Yeah it.
Speaker 2 (01:45:54):
No, no, it wasn't.
Speaker 25 (01:45:55):
It was.
Speaker 22 (01:45:55):
It was a few more than us, about a handful
of more than us, you.
Speaker 35 (01:45:59):
Know, but our seventeen also includes our JV got it
eighth and got it eighth and ninth grader from a
lot of eighth grader right, So, uh, you know things
we're installing now and getting getting them the plays right.
Speaker 22 (01:46:09):
And now we're coming into this week.
Speaker 35 (01:46:11):
Uh you know, with with that, uh, with with that,
uh that group, that element a little younger, little smaller,
but we're.
Speaker 3 (01:46:18):
Still gonna be competitive, all right, Cusa Valley Academy.
Speaker 2 (01:46:21):
Tell me about Cusa Valley on the road this week.
Speaker 22 (01:46:24):
Oh, you know, anytime you go on the road is tough.
Speaker 35 (01:46:26):
Yeah, you're going to somebody else's house and you gotta
you gotta prepare for it.
Speaker 3 (01:46:29):
But uh, you got to pack up, travel, get all
that stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:46:32):
It is tough.
Speaker 35 (01:46:32):
We've made our adjustments up based on our injuries, based
based on what we've got, the squad we're bringing, uh,
the team we're bringing, and we made those adjustments and
I think we're preparing them right, and we're gonna compete.
That's the best thing we can do is compete and
and and get our players some reps and then see
what we come out on Friday night.
Speaker 3 (01:46:49):
All right, Tell me about how's this week and.
Speaker 34 (01:46:50):
Practice being well, I haven't actually been practicing much this
week because I got injured during the.
Speaker 3 (01:46:56):
Day when it got hurt. Are you gonna be okay Friday?
Speaker 25 (01:47:00):
I'm not.
Speaker 34 (01:47:00):
Actually I went to the doctor. They said, though I'm not,
I can't play this week. So I'll be back next week.
Speaker 2 (01:47:08):
I'll be ready, all right.
Speaker 11 (01:47:09):
Who's going to place him?
Speaker 5 (01:47:10):
Coach Jale?
Speaker 35 (01:47:10):
We got to we've got a backup quarterback. That's when
we replaced some Bradley Austin. He'll be our quarterback. You
know at the helm this week. You know he's been
holding the clipboard a lining back there, giving him that
science from that starting quarterback position, so helping him out,
and I think he's.
Speaker 22 (01:47:26):
Prepared them pretty well.
Speaker 4 (01:47:27):
We'll see with the alchemists if you want to handle
that headset to coach, people's all get his thoughts.
Speaker 3 (01:47:32):
Coach good, So you got a sharp young man there, quarterback.
I hope he gets better.
Speaker 2 (01:47:36):
How are you tonight? I'm doing good.
Speaker 21 (01:47:39):
Probably one of the smarter quarterbacks we've had recently. He's
picked up the offense very well.
Speaker 4 (01:47:43):
I can tell he's a sharp man. To be a sophomore,
I can tell tell me about what.
Speaker 3 (01:47:47):
Your thoughts coming in tomorrow night, I mean Friday night.
Keep saying tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:47:50):
I've got some Thursday games, but Friday.
Speaker 11 (01:47:51):
Night it'll definitely be a challenge.
Speaker 8 (01:47:53):
But you know, that's part of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
You're always adjusting, always making new moves, and I'm we're
just gonna have to find a way to make it work.
You had him hurt? How many any other guys that
won't play this week?
Speaker 20 (01:48:03):
I'm our running back and our left guard as well
as our starting receiver.
Speaker 35 (01:48:08):
Wow, game or one of our linebackers are all tight
wheel linebacker had sixteen tackles last week.
Speaker 3 (01:48:15):
Wow, he can't play this week?
Speaker 35 (01:48:17):
He pulled a hamstring. Oh, you know so, So we're
working through it. We're working through it. I think he'll
be slightly you know light. Yeah, he'll be back next week,
day to day.
Speaker 2 (01:48:29):
Yeah, he'll be.
Speaker 4 (01:48:31):
It has been a good week of practice. You got
good attitudes. Keep everybody up. I've enjoyed talking to you.
You come back and visit with us. Okay, make sure
your team plays good this week.
Speaker 2 (01:48:41):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:48:41):
You guys are on the road this week and in
a banger Christian and this is a region game too.
Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
Yo, yeah, all of Aallose games now region because of
y'all got so many teams in your league.
Speaker 3 (01:48:49):
Okay, good luck you guys, you get better, okay, all right, yeah,
thank you.
Speaker 13 (01:48:54):
That's good.
Speaker 5 (01:48:55):
That's you to take care from.
Speaker 4 (01:48:56):
Mose Barbecue High School Coaches Show, presented to you by
Mose Barbecue Force of Frederick Dean Funeral Home in Crematory,
the Orthopedic Clinic. And of course you can't beat our
good folks right here at Mose Barbecue. That's gonna do
it for Jeff Jason Van, I'm demarking all our coaches
until next Wednesday night.
Speaker 2 (01:49:12):
So long for Mose Barbecue.
