Speaker 1 (00:00):
The following is in production.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is The High School Coaches Show, Live from Mose Barbecue,
Ben Creek in Auburn, presented by the Orthopedic Clinic, East
Alabama's go to center for orthopedic care and by Cory's Furner.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Good Afternoon Barbecue site. The High School Coaches Show presented
to you by the Orthopedic Cline, Chriss, Steve mart Mitchell,
Jeff Sasser, Jason Lee. We are all set up and
raring to go for another edition of The Coaches Show. Jeff,
good afternoon, Good to see you. Week two.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
It's good to be here. Yeah, it's a little it's
a little warmer than last week.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah, I agree with that. Week two and uh we're
already hotter than we hot her than it was. This
is warmer than it was last week.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
As a starter, man, it's gonna get hotter as we go.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
There we are, We got Smith's station in the house.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Coach, good to see you, Yes, sir, thank you for
having men.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, you guys opened up on TV. We were just
talking about that tough game right down to the wire.
It did.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
It did, man. The kids really played hard to play
their hearts out. You know, we got a really young
bunch of kids this year, you know, a lot of
sophomore so it's kind of the first time under the
lights on a Friday night, and you know they're going
to continue to learn from it and grow from it.
But I think they see now what it's going to
take for four quarters to you know, put themselves in
the position to give themselves a chance to win the

(01:23):
ball games in the fourth quarter. But you know, we
didn't really execute the way that we wanted to down
the stretch and didn't play real discipline towards the end.
But got to give a coach Gardner and his bunch
a lot of credit over to Shawl. They made the
plays when they needed to.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
There you go. I didn't even introduce your Brian Garrison,
they head coach at Smiths Station. I just jumped right
on there and started talking.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Jeff.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
We talked about this game, coach. You had your chances.
It was a losk obviously fifteen six kind of break
it down real QUI before we jumped a valley.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Well, we had a long touchdown run early in the
first sade quarter and we were up six to nothing
for a long time and we had the ball four
minutes left and on the first half, and you know,
I told the offense, I don't care if we score,
I just don't want them getting the ball back. But
we didn't really execute our four minute offense very well.
They got the ball back, you know, through a pass

(02:11):
and kind of a jump ball situation. They caught it
close to the goal line and scored and went into
halftime seven to six, and it was you know, back
and forth bat on. We you know, we had our
chances and opportunities. We had two drives that went inside
the fifteen. We went forward on fourth and one and
didn't get it, and then we also fumbled down there too.
So again, it's just the execution piece and our kids
is gonna have to understand that it's every single play.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
And you lean more towards the run in this game.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
Yeah, you know, we're running heavy football team right now,
just because of the personnel that we have, and you know,
we don't really want to put too much on our
quarterback right now. Again, he's a tenth grader. The first
time that he started the game, you know, on on
a Friday night, well it's a Thursday night, but the
same things the game. Yeah, but yeah, but overall, you know,
I was really pleased with the effort and attitude and

(02:56):
you know they fall to the very end and you
know it's only going to have them moving forward.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
At Valley Friday night, coach Rams lost a tough one
against Glenn would not far from where you play, talk
about going to Fairfax to take on the Rams.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Yeah, we had the advantage of playing at home under
you know, the lights at our place and crowd.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
So you're at home this weekend.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
No last week, Yeah, this week, you know, on the road,
like you said, going to Valley, so again new challenge
for the kids. First time on the road this Season'd
be interesting to see how they handled that trip and
you know, handle the atmosphere on the road. We didn't
do a very good job that last year, so it
was a point of emphasis for us this year, you know,
on a road and traveling like that.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
All Right. They always talk about coaches do week one,
Week two, you make you're supposed to make your biggest improvement.
Are you in you agree with that? I mean, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
You know, we've been working really hard on our fundamentals
this week, trying to get back to it because that's
kind of what we were had the least discipline in
the in the later stages of the game the other night.
It kind of costs us with our blocking and our tackling.
But you know, like you said, week one to week two,
from a season view, that's where you want to see
the most improvement. I think from a you know, from
where I said too, when you kind of look at

(04:03):
that in the thirty thousand foot view, when you're looking
down on everything, you want to see what your improvement
from year one to year two. That's kind of where
we're at too as a program. And I think you
saw everybody that watched it the night, So a vast
improvement of where we left off last year after that
last game against Auburn to where we are now. But
we still got a long ways to go.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Do you feel like you need this? You need to
have a good game going this after this should go
right into.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Your yeah, in the region settle stuff. So yeah, but
you know, every game stuff, and every game is the challenge,
but challenges we look forward to. It's great opportunity for
our kids and our staff.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
All right now, one more thing before we go. We
got a minute, a little over a minute. We talked
last week with John White talked about you know, you
guys have a lot of underclassmen playing. Yes, did I
mean like I think you didn't have many juniors or
senior How many played juniors and seniors?

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Well, we have a We don't have eight seniors, I think,
but only three played the other night. And I starts thinking,
and there's probably about two or three juniors that play.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
Rest of them sophomore across.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
The words play any both ways a few.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Yes, sir, absolutely, So they're learning to have to get
conditioned to play, you know, on both sides of the football.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
So it's a challenge for him as well.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Special Teams Weet covered it.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
What were you thinking?

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Good?

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Bad on yourself? We were said on Special Teams. I
think there was a couple of things we could have
done a bit differently, but overall it was really really
solid on the special teams front. We missed that extra point,
but yeah, sometimes that happened.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Coach Brian Garrison, good to see.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
Whether Thank love Mark, Yes, sir, thanks for having.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
The station in the house. We're gonna take a break
at Poles. We're gonna come back. We're gonna talk to
the valley rounds about that. The other side of that
coin the team they'll be playing Friday night. We'll be
right back on ninety seven point seven Kicker FM and
Fox Sports The Game. Thanks Lo.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
This is.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Welcome back to Moles Barbecue, the site of the High
School Coaches Show ninety seven point seven KICKERFM, Fox Sports
The Game, nine, ten, thirteen ten. D Rock is coming up.
Ladies and gentlemen. D Rock comes to the Coaching Show.
That means you need to come to the Coaches Show.
We are at Moles at Bent Creek. They got one downtown.
You're a been right one? Yeah, okay, I have not.
Ricky Carmack, he's the guy. He's a dog graduate, he's

(06:04):
good people, just like we are. But we appreciate Ricky
hosting this show. We appreciate Mos Barbecue, which is Ricky's
and his partner, and we appreciate the orth p D Clintic.
My goodness, Adam Hunter, how are you?

Speaker 6 (06:15):
I'm good?

Speaker 1 (06:15):
How are you good? At batter of Rams not going
interview yet, were gonna start the club. But you know
about the orth p D Clinton, don't you? Yes, sir?
They solid people playing, absolutely there they go. They got
to train on Trader to help you on Friday nights too.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
We appreciate them and goal Re's furnisher Spiss for what
they do. Adam Hunter in the house the Valley Rams, Jeff,
I'll let you talk to him.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Coach. Last week, tough, tough game, y'all had to travel to.

Speaker 7 (06:35):
First time ever, your first time ever going on to
GLENNOWI that's right.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Tell us about the game, coach before we move on
to the station.

Speaker 7 (06:41):
Hey, you know, go into the game.

Speaker 8 (06:43):
You know, you just really didn't know what we was
gonna get as far as Glenn would be in coming
into public school. And you know, we take the opening
kickoff and run it back for a touchdown and kind
of settle in. You know, first drive was kind of
bad offensively, we get stops and we finally settled down,
go up twenty to nothing before the half, and you know,
had some misfortunes with our special teams punting, two mistakes

(07:05):
on the punting that caused us they you know, just
put us in bad field.

Speaker 7 (07:10):
Position on our defense.

Speaker 9 (07:12):
So we go up twenty to nothing.

Speaker 8 (07:13):
They scored before the half, throw a touchdown passing the
end zone that we thought we picked off, but it
was rude to touchdown for them, and you know, kind
of the wheels fell off right there before the half
and come out the second half and kind of stall
a little bit as we go and couldn't get anything going,
and they capitalized and they went up twenty one to twenty.
We get the ball back with two minutes to go,
and we we drive down the field and run the

(07:36):
speed option and we get a holding penalty on the
touchdown run that was negated, so you know, called that
touchdown back on us, and they got the ball rand
the clock out. Well, they didn't run the clock out.
They punt to us with about forty seconds left, snap
snapped to the punter of the punters knees on the ground,
stands up, kicks it and then we we kind of

(07:58):
fumbled the punt return.

Speaker 7 (07:59):
Right, they're trying to make a play with forty seconds.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Left, So we're talking like it should have been down where.

Speaker 7 (08:04):
He right, We should have had the ball at about
the forty going in.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Okay, all right, So I hadn't you tell me a
lot of stuff I didn't I didn't know, right, right.

Speaker 8 (08:14):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
You know sometimes that things well.

Speaker 8 (08:17):
It sometimes it don't basing your way, But no one
thing is we shouldn't put ourselves in that position. We
should have once we got up twenty to nothing, we
should we should have put the you know, we should
have stayed on it. We should have you know, put it,
put it out of out of getting it in somebody
else's hands. I should say, put it in somebody else's hands.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
All right, Well, this week you're gonna gonna host the game.
We are yep, you know, uh, Smith's coming to That's
tough one too. Last week they did they did they.
You know, Smith is gonna do their double wing. They're
gonna run the triple, they're gonna run the midline, they're
gonna run.

Speaker 7 (08:47):
The full back dive.

Speaker 8 (08:48):
You know, something that you don't see a lot of
something that's hard for us to mimic it practice. So
you know, we did a lot of going over you know,
rules and who has what, who has dive, who has quarterback,
who has quarter back to pitch that kind of stuff
on defense. So you know, they're going to try to
control the game. We got to capitalize when we get
the football because they're going to control the clock a lot.
So you know, we got to work cut out for us.

(09:10):
They they run the ball really hard, defensively. You know,
they got a safety that really runs the alley well, uh,
he runs it well, and he's fast and he's physical.

Speaker 7 (09:20):
So you know, they've got some players.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
They're really good.

Speaker 7 (09:22):
You know, we've got to we got to play good.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
You know, they're they're just I think they're similar to
the UKs. They got some young players, that's right, that's right,
a lot of young players. You had to replace a
lot from last year.

Speaker 7 (09:30):
Yeah, we did.

Speaker 8 (09:31):
And that's what people don't understand. We got some seniors
that had to replace some guys, but we got seniors
that haven't played. We got we was counted up this week.
You know, I told the guys, we got five defensive
guys that never started the varsity football game started Friday night,
and then we got six on the offense. It's never
started for an offensive snap at a varsity game. So
you know, we've got some young guys in places that

(09:53):
that are crucial. You know, our our veteran groups are
our O line, D line, you know, and we ended
up having about three hundred yards offense, and most that
was rushing.

Speaker 7 (10:01):
So you know, we're doing things we gotta do. We
just you know, once we get up, we can't relax.
And I think we relaxed a little bit in the.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Cost us we made that. How many seniors do you have,
coach O total.

Speaker 7 (10:11):
I've got eighteen, eighteen and eighteen.

Speaker 8 (10:14):
Out of those eighteen, you've got about only two, three, four, five,
about six that started.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
So we're talking experience. We're not talking about right age
having experience.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Yeah, you know, he.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Coach A Garrison staid, he's got eight seniors. Yeah, he's
just you know, got you got two hungry teams playing
for That's.

Speaker 8 (10:32):
Right, That's right, you know, and and we're gonna have
a work cut out of us going. You know, we're
gonna we're gonna face a really good football team, a
hard nose football team that's doing, you know, stuff that
you don't see a lot of anymore in football.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
So that's a speed of your team, coach. Usually you
have really good speed.

Speaker 7 (10:45):
We we we've got speed.

Speaker 10 (10:47):
You know.

Speaker 5 (10:47):
It was weird.

Speaker 8 (10:48):
It just looks like we was really slow. I don't
know if it was we was worried about making mistakes
Friday or what. That slowed us down a little bit.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
But we got to play a lot fashion than what
we did Friday.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Okay, well, you know, you got to you got a
tough game coming up. You gotta another hungry team. They
lost last week in a tough one, right, somebody's gonna
have a win this week. That's right.

Speaker 8 (11:05):
Let's just hope we come out on top. You know,
hopefully we shared up some more special team stuff. It's
it's crazy. Every every year we go into special teams
and we work at more in the summer and going
into fall camp than what we normally do, and it
seems like we have something bad happened at the first game.

Speaker 7 (11:19):
It's just crazy. I don't know, but uh, you know,
hopefully we get that shared up a little bit.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Well, you know, we were talking about this, you know,
the difference between first game and second game usually there's.

Speaker 7 (11:27):
A lot of a lot of improvement, that's right.

Speaker 8 (11:29):
And you know, I've got some I've got some young
coaches first night being on the sideline on the varsity
football game too, So you know, the the operation thing
is gonna come and you know it's gonna be better
this week than it was this past week as well.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
So well, I mean, you got a tough game coming up,
then you hit your region schedule. It did, there's no
rest for the weary because it just you jumping at it.
But you do have a week off in the middle
of September, that's right.

Speaker 7 (11:52):
Yeah, after clay Central, we'll have that week off, so
that'll help.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
How special teams real quick? How was it?

Speaker 8 (11:58):
Yeah, the staff, it was on the you know, and
we missed the extra point. That was kind of disheartening,
but other than that, it was it was okay.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
You know, you never think about missing those ex points
to it makes it different.

Speaker 7 (12:07):
That's right, that's right, twenty that's exactly right.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Y'all might have been in Ota. Hey, coach, good luck
next week. Thanks, good to see we'll see you. Uh well,
I'll be listening to you Friday night on the Bull
the Bull one hundred point nine, and we'll be talking
to you next week.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
All right, appreciated us.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. We're
coming to you lie from Moe's Original Barbecue. It's brought
to you by the Orthopede Clinic, Mo's and Gory's Furniture Express.
Our next up is spring Wood Jory Burch tough game
last week, coach, you know, talk about that quickly.

Speaker 11 (12:41):
We'll move on to real quick. Uh, you know, Coach
Scott does a great job with Southern Christian.

Speaker 12 (12:46):
Uh they had already had a game underneath their belt,
and they brought a big, old physical team in there,
and we jumped up early on them.

Speaker 11 (12:52):
And you know, we're very very young, about two thirds of.

Speaker 12 (12:56):
Our guys that never played or their tenth graders and
and never and starters and things like that, and we
just made mistakes.

Speaker 11 (13:04):
You know that'll get you be you know, all sides, killer.

Speaker 12 (13:07):
Drive, a hole to penalty, killer drive, you know, just
things like that first game. Jitters that we had that
they didn't and had a couple of big old backs
and they kind of wore us down at the end.
We just couldn't tackle the big old boy and and
uh So that was kind of the wrap up of it.
And we've had a great week of practice this week.
We've corrected a lot of those mistakes. So we're looking
forward and playing Friday night.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Lighthouse coach where is Lighthouse?

Speaker 12 (13:30):
Lighthouse is around the Aniana north of Birmingham area. They
draw from about three different counties and now they'll bring
about thirty five forty kids and they've been playing this
for a long time and coach JJ Duart does a
good job with them, and we played them the last
two years and both times they'd beat to six points.
So we're looking to get back on the winning track
this time and get back in that winning call.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Now that's who did you play in the championship game?

Speaker 13 (13:54):
Then?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Now?

Speaker 12 (13:55):
No, Cornerstone Christians Cornstone?

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Okay, I was just thinking were they that? Were they not?
They're not in our league differently, That's what I was
trying to understand, obstly say, if they beat you twice height,
why wun't they playing you know, the yeah, against at
least against you in the championship team. So all right, yeah,
light Lighthouse Christian is uh coming up this week? What
we got to do to beat them?

Speaker 12 (14:17):
Coach, Well, we just can't make the same mistakes we
did again. You know, we got a very young quarterback.
You know, he missed some reeds and missed some wide
open passes and just I think we worked real hard
and corrected that this week, and if we just play
our game, I think we'll be fine and get back
to winning.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Cock Were you introduced to Johnson Brothers to me? Coach?

Speaker 11 (14:34):
Yeah, we got a senior Greg Johnson. He plays defensive
end for.

Speaker 12 (14:37):
Us and he's a he's an all purpose gal on
offense and plays a little tight end, little h back
and we just use him in all. He had a
pretty good game. He caught three big catch catches. One
of them was a spectacular catch on for a big
first down for us.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
And then we have c J.

Speaker 12 (14:51):
CJ's are running back and helps us out linebacker a
little bit on defense. And there's a special team guy
that that that nobody wants to kick it to him
because he's gonna take back to the house.

Speaker 11 (15:01):
So he had a real good game.

Speaker 12 (15:02):
I think he had about one hundred fifty yards rushing
and he did return to what to two touchdowns on
kickoff return, so he probably won't see the ball kick
off return.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't kick it to it. No,
I wouldn't kick it to Hey, what y'all take from
this game? This first game, guys, I think, uh, with
our new team, I think we needed is uh. This
game just helped us out. Knowing that with the young team,
it just helped us girl, Okay, and see Jackson.

Speaker 14 (15:29):
With this game, I just needed we need to find
like chemistry and to find some consistency in the game
that we play going forward?

Speaker 3 (15:36):
All right? Who now the quarterback? He's a young quarterback
West Cardin.

Speaker 12 (15:41):
His dad helps coaches, I believe, defensive coordinators there at Lynnette,
and he's coached at Ballet and he's been around there
with Beulah for a long time. And so he's he's
going to be a good guy for us. He's about
six to two and can sling the ball, but he
first live game action, so you know, he's a little
nervous and and and he didn't have a great game.
He made some great throws and great plays, and then

(16:02):
he made some terrible plays and then some and then
that's what he was talking about, the inconsistency of it.

Speaker 11 (16:08):
If we could just put that together, we're gonna be
a good foot.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
What do you what do you what do you need
him to do? Said Jay? Just somewhere close to you
where you can get to it. You're gonna beat You're
gonna beat whoever's on you. That's what I like to hear.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
We'll hold him to it.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Huh. Yeah, Now you caught some passages, right, Yes? How
many passages you catch last week? Three and one was
he said it was a spectacle over.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Yeah, he had to turn around and called it.

Speaker 11 (16:30):
It was it was a big play to it.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
So all he's got to do is get it close
to you, throw it up, just somewhere close, and you're
gonna get it. How do y'all like when the people
who are the defensive backs who were guard are y'all
bigger than them usually? Or are they same size? Because
y'all pretty big young. I mean, you know, don't mean
we're bigger than all little bit Okay.

Speaker 12 (16:51):
They were bigger than those DB's and all, but but
they wouldn't bigger than that running back that we couldn't
stop in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 11 (16:57):
It was coach your son. Yeah, yeah, he had about
one hundred kids.

Speaker 5 (17:03):
I guess he just keeps sending them.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Is it was it Jagger?

Speaker 11 (17:07):
I know we're running I really don't know the kids name.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Well, his last name was Scott will Oh yeah, that
was coaches something. Y'all played at More Stadium, Right, How
y'all guys are both y'all seniors? Right, I'm being he
is in here the junior That's what I thought. Okay,
senior junior. Okay, both y'all played basketball, right, that's right
now I'm saying they pitch it up jump it up.
I know, just probably going over this week and all that. Okay, yes, sir,
I don't know what I missed.

Speaker 11 (17:30):
But well, we just talked about what we got to do,
and the boys had a great grasp on it. Just
the inconsistency.

Speaker 12 (17:36):
We just did the first game. Things that get you beat,
you know, with a lot of young players. So and
as hot as it was, we've had an excellent week
of practice. The kids really focused. Greg right here has
been a leader, and c J. And we got Tucker Sides,
who's another one of our returning guys. Really our three
returning players, and you've just kind of taken ownership of
the team and got the guys going and and and
got dinner. Mind you know, hopefully we're not gonna lose

(17:59):
another one. So we really did learn from the from
the gay.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Y'all probably grew up playing a more stadium that was
right at home one I was think about y'all played
mins that was just anyway I heard. It was a
good game. Guys, are good to see both of you
all right, So you got at home this week, Lighthouse.
I know you need a big crowd, y'all need a
big crowd, right, tell everybody real quick before we go
off here, what it means for your team to have
a big crowd, both of you real quick, you first sing.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
With us. We're having a big crowd. It's gonna bring
a lot of energy to the team that we need.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Yeah, it's really just energy.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
It makes us play even better than what we.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Used to do.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Good to see both of you guys too, all right,
coach always good.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Yes, I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Yep, Sai, Jef and spring Wood that's Jason Lee d
Mark will take a breick break from Moles High School coaches.
Shall continues with the net and welcome back to Moles
Barbecue and Bent Creek right here in Armer, Alabama, height
of the site of our high school coaches. Sure, we

(18:58):
have been here many years. Let mena use m Coach MacDonald,
we've been here.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
You know, been a while. I've been coming here.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
What about I know it's finished.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Remember years ago y'all went other place like Burger five.
That's right, coach, you've been with us a while. My
first Yes, sir, where were you that I went to?

Speaker 15 (19:15):
Point?

Speaker 5 (19:16):
I know?

Speaker 1 (19:16):
But we're we's right, yes, right, he's right about Burger fire.
But anyway, we're as Jeff sachser D Mark Jason Lee
started to clock. My bad. We're gonna talk. And by
the way, our shows presented each week by the Orthopedic Clank,
we don't say enough about what they do. Their doctors
are phenomenal, aren't they.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Jeff? I mean, all so many schools, so many they
got fifteen or sixteen of them that they.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
They look after him, and they've looked after me a bunch.
I got cuts all over him. But I appreciate what
they do. The Net Panthers are in now. Good evening, gentlemen,
how are you all coaching? Good? Good? Good Coach McDonald's.
Congratulations your first win as the head coach of the
Panthers fifth month for me to r that was good?

Speaker 3 (19:57):
What was that like?

Speaker 1 (19:58):
I'll be honest, you know, I asked that question. Tell
me that was your first ever win, man, and you
won your first one?

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (20:04):
Pretty nerve wrecking.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Uh, it's all your family there.

Speaker 15 (20:07):
Yeah, good mom that everybody everybody there about criving the
car the car.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Be okay, because I think as much to do that. Hey,
you can do that, you're a man. I'm gonna stop
to talk on that one. Go ahead, kid had a
really good I'm not kidding about that, but I got
a really.

Speaker 15 (20:29):
Good staff man. You did what they can not have been,
no doubt, cannot include him. I'm just kidding, but yeah, no,
it was.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
It was.

Speaker 15 (20:38):
It was a good night, scary night for a little while,
but you know, we just didn't put it away, but
but got the job done. So it's hard to win, man,
it's hard to win. I know a lot of people
say that it is, especially against an unknown type of
deal there, and that's kind of what the whole game was.

Speaker 6 (20:54):
And so you know, a good thing we got to win.

Speaker 15 (20:57):
And uh, just glad the kids played hard and got
back on track.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
So we played who if you could name some people
who helped you in this game, Coach maybe contributed a little.
It's our team or what. I realized that. But you know,
we always got skilled guys and we talked about them
a lot.

Speaker 16 (21:14):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
I mean you had plenty of plenty of room degree
fourteen to thirteen. I mean you, I mean you was none.
How was how the game degress? I mean were you
ever behind?

Speaker 17 (21:25):
Ord?

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Yeah, we were behind.

Speaker 15 (21:27):
We got down seven and nothing. It kind of got
a bad break, you know, and uh, I think it
was like third and sixteen or something out of p
I and then they got uh they you know, got
a good run, got to get crease down to the
N zone and uh they put it in second quarter
seven and nothing and we end up tying it up
seven and seven. We went down and scored on a
really nice catch, uh well screen but by eldje one Whoodfield.

(21:50):
But we had you was just saying mentioning people or
our line man. They had a great deal right there
on that and frog it. So you know what, Yeah,
we fought through a little bit of adversity, you know,
uh not a not a lot of penalties on our end.
I mean for the most part that's just you know,
your knickknack things and but you know, just uh, you know,

(22:15):
put it away. You know, we gotta we gotta be
able to finish ball games and put things away when
we need to put them away.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
And we just didn't do that.

Speaker 15 (22:20):
But you know, they're learning, they're learning that part of it.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
So you go on the road next week. You go
to Beautiful not too far of a ride out of
a trip you won last week to be Abbeyville. H
been them last year. I don't know if that, if
that family is going to show you what you want
to see, I don't uh what we got to do
to questions?

Speaker 18 (22:38):
Yeah, I let h, I'll let uh.

Speaker 15 (22:40):
I'll let Coach Kitchens talking about the defensive part of it,
and I go.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
He says that I think of Freddy Kitchens. Remember we
talked before, if you I mean I did, I think
of Freddy Kitchens every Carolina they played tomorrow night at Minnesota.

Speaker 19 (22:53):
Coach, But if you love, like I said, historically wise,
we don't try to look at the history of you know,
the program, because like I said, last of the has
some made the playoffs and they got a first win winning,
you know, winning kind of great winning by the team.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
I mean the team they beat them, they beat them
the last two years. I don't know.

Speaker 19 (23:08):
Yeah, uh, every feels a good team, good competitive, fast group.
But like I said, be just they they've kind of turned.
I think the Martin that's just trying to get our
guys to buy in, like thet the same team of
the past. You know, everybody, it's a new year.

Speaker 6 (23:20):
I did.

Speaker 19 (23:21):
Every team creates, they no identity, so we look forward
to it as long as we keep finding around. Like
coach said, uh, eleven guys to the to the ball.
We played extremely fast on defense. Like I said, we
gave up one touchdown Friday night. I'm really proud of
everybody just playing.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Like you said, it should have shouldn't be in certain situations.

Speaker 19 (23:36):
But I'm kind of glad we was because we saw
adversity and we had to play to the final book
the clock zero and ball was in there.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
Well, you know this team that.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
You know, we'll go through a season and not play
full four then they get to a game where they don't,
where they have to play full courts and they're not
ready for it. Right, So I'm kind of glad. Like
I said, you don't want to have been that situation.

Speaker 19 (23:52):
But it's kind of like we gotta went ahead and
got out of the way just the case we get
the situation again. We've been here before. Keep playing four
quarters down to the end. If we have to find
a way to win by any means.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Well, I'm looking at your schedule. I'm sure you're gonna
have You're gonna you're gonna have to play oh yeah,
full quarters and a bunch of these games. Look for
the people you gotta.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Play, Well, he's gonna have to play four this week.
I think yeah, I mean, you know, I tell you this,
especially offensively, we gotta, you know, we gotta be able
to move the ball on these guys that they're actually
fast too.

Speaker 15 (24:17):
They might not be the biggest group in the whole world,
but you know, they're very fast and uh, you know, so,
like coach said, I think we've got a good chance
to be pretty sporty on defense and if we keep
doing what we're doing. You know, Bullet County was a
good football team and had a lot of quality players.
Coach Vines changed that culture down there to where it's
not just that same old deal where you're gonna roll
in and kill them. And they gave us a dog fight,
which is good for us, you know, fight through at

(24:38):
versity and learn how to win and tough football.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
Guys speak kills. Sometimes you ain't got to be big
if you can fly. And you good to see y'all.
Congrats on the win, coach, good luck against the Bodycats.
Thanks both y'all for being there. Thank you at the
coaches Show. We're at most Barbecue BNK Creek and Auburn
jeff In deed Mark and Jason Lee Van Rix is
in the house. We're gonna take a break. Come back
Auburn High Keith Cathics.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Welcome back to the High School Coach Show. We'll coming
to you to lie for Moe's original barbecue right here
at Big Creek.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Yeah we are now we might be JB hunting here,
brought to you by the orthoped Clinton. That's exactly right,
and Gorory's front of.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
You, spreads, Jimmy and Pam and great people. They got
to sit in here right now, and recliners. You got
the cooler in the horn cooler? Yeah, well, I mean
Jimmy Dodnet loaded it up for me, but it got
everything ice down. So it's just right man, because this
is the kind of weather you need a cooler.

Speaker 17 (25:32):
Yeah, you want for sure.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
We got Coach Keith. That'ser from Auburn High School. Thank
you for sitting that clock.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
And coach my Lel there, his son always came to
good to see you. Coach's good to see you, sir.
Thanks for the hospitality last Friday night.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
I enjoyed being there.

Speaker 17 (25:46):
Anytime, go ahead, I don't want to start. I'll see
you another way, Yes you will.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
We had we had North Miami Beach, Florida. Last week
come to town. I'm thinking a bunch of really good,
ten long, blonde hair surfer kind of dudes.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
You know, yeah, what we missed that.

Speaker 17 (26:04):
Yeah, they had some athletes, they just sort of you know,
we we wore them down pretty good.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 20 (26:10):
I heard our guys played really fast offensively. I love
the flow of the game. We played really fast, you know,
got the ball.

Speaker 17 (26:17):
I think we were.

Speaker 20 (26:18):
I think we were getting off plays in about fifteen seconds,
twelve fifteen seconds. So it's really good, you know, getting
lined up, getting our motions, getting our shifts in, and
getting the plays off.

Speaker 17 (26:28):
So I felt really good.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
You know.

Speaker 17 (26:30):
Well, of course we made some mistakes. We can polish
and get better.

Speaker 5 (26:35):
You know.

Speaker 20 (26:35):
I think you know, usually they say your best, your
biggest jumps from game one to game two.

Speaker 17 (26:40):
I hope that's the case.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Do you believe that.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
I do.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
I think that.

Speaker 20 (26:43):
You know, you get that first game, and you get
first game, jitters out, and you know, I hope we
play better this game.

Speaker 17 (26:48):
If we play better, we'll be we'll be tough to
deal with.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
Game.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
You got to work on some depth, coach, get some
playing time.

Speaker 20 (26:54):
Well they got you know, they're really good football team.
They turned the ball over against Carver, I think five
five and I think that I think that too. Yeah,
I think two of them, well one of them they
returned for a touchdown. Two more they were turned inside fifteen.

Speaker 21 (27:11):
Yards or so.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
You know that really those times, And you don't usually
hear that from best Dave.

Speaker 17 (27:20):
No, you don't.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
That's a good point. That's a good point.

Speaker 20 (27:22):
But they got a young quarterback who's really athletic and
you know, really good player.

Speaker 17 (27:27):
Uh, two good running backs.

Speaker 20 (27:29):
I think he's held is starting running back out for
the first game and there and they heard that, and
their safety has been held out for a couple of games.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
So is the starter? Is he the one that came
back from was he nine g or somewhere?

Speaker 17 (27:46):
No, that's the kid at Carver, the kid at Carver.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
Yeah, he's had several term thinking about team they played.

Speaker 17 (27:52):
Yeah, yeah Carver. Right, I did to Turbo, Yeah, Turbo, yep.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Yeah, that's right, that's right. He's really special. No, I
didn't mean to cut you off. I was just gonna
I didn't know. They had a lot of people don't know,
that's what. Yeah, that's all right, A lot of people
don't know they had those those mistakes, cause you see those.

Speaker 20 (28:10):
But I knew Evans does such a good job and
their coaching staff does such a good job with those kids.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
You know.

Speaker 20 (28:16):
They they're fundamentally sound. They're gonna shift, they're gonna they're
gonna try to outflank you. They're gonna, you know, defensively,
they're solid. You know he's he's a defensive guy. They're
so solid defensively. And those coaches have been there for
a long time, you know, So those kids under this
it's a program. They understand what they've came up in
that program from seventh grade.

Speaker 17 (28:36):
They do the same stuff in you, you know, so
they they know what they're doing over you better be
ready to play on Miss Myra text.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Me after she would be here at the and she
would see both of them that would be on your side,
your sideline and her sideline. So about there, Yeah nothing,
you know, I heard that, go ahead. I like, I know.
She's a good lady, all right, she loved a lot fireworks, wonderful,

(29:07):
she's professional, top class, all right. Talk about your team, coach,
you ran through that other team, y'all. Dominated I know
you had to play a lot of kids, but while
you were playing your starters. You dominated. Now I don't
know what you got out of as a coach, as
a fan, as a media guy. They're good. I went
on to watch the least guys. Now, now you got
to play a game this week. Obviously that team's better.
They had four turnovers. So where do you go from here?

Speaker 20 (29:26):
We just just got to just build off what we
did last week. You know, our starters, most of our
starters played a half.

Speaker 17 (29:32):
That's what I was getting. It's gonna be hot Friday
night and hotter than it is class.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
So she was coming not that every good for the
game it did. You may have come to me and
mayor Company was.

Speaker 17 (29:42):
Yeah, and it's gonna be a little hotter this Friday night.

Speaker 20 (29:45):
So we just got to come in and you know,
be hydrated, make sure we take care of ourselves and
you know, avoid the cramps and stuff like that, because
you know, I'm telling you, you know our depth, you
know we gotta and we I think we created some
depth the other night I found you play.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
You played in the first half, and we were still
talking about that team when I still were able. I
know you were jump. I was thinking I wasn't talk
about getting depth in the best half.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
I know, buddy, I looked at the clock. I was
trying to get everything in.

Speaker 21 (30:13):
No, no, you're right.

Speaker 17 (30:14):
I mean we created some depth.

Speaker 20 (30:16):
The other night I saw some things from some kids
who I feel really comfortable with now put them in
the game. They understand some things, you know, But you
got to make sure in those kind of games, it
gives you an opportunity to get there in there.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
And if you if you're playing, if you had some
ones playing the first half and you have two playing
in the second half, did some twos.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
Go go look, didn't you?

Speaker 17 (30:35):
We had some with some one?

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Yeah, but you look at him, say, man, these guys
are could be one? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Yeah, yeah, I thought you had somebody. Was that you
telling us you had somebody that earned the start? Was
that you this morning we had a couple of Yeah.

Speaker 20 (30:47):
I think I've got a couple of kids that that
may have. You know, I don't know if they'll start. Well,
how about that bad They played really really good in
the second half and came in and made some big plays,
and I'm just like, look, look, and then it it
ain't bad to have a starter getting their tail nipped at,
you know, by by a guy that's behind them.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
They try hard. I love about high school football. You know,
can earn away into the story when.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
It's time to play, play one hundred percent at all.

Speaker 20 (31:13):
I mean, you think about it in college you I mean,
if they gonna play those guys on scholarship, those and
Kim knows, if you're a walk on, you gotta I mean,
you gotta really kill it and play.

Speaker 17 (31:24):
Yeah, you got to really kill it though your quarterback.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Yeah, for me, I thought it. I mean, but I'm
not the corporatere you go.

Speaker 17 (31:30):
Yeah, Jackson's one of the best.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
And you're back coach. You know you trust him a lot.

Speaker 17 (31:34):
Absolutely. He he has a full playbook at hand. He
is a winner.

Speaker 20 (31:39):
You know, the kid can sling it. He's got all
the froze in him. He can pull it down and
run it.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
You saw that though, I did.

Speaker 17 (31:45):
You know he had close right at two hundred yards
in the first half.

Speaker 20 (31:49):
As far as total rushing past he threw four hundred
and sixty five yards.

Speaker 17 (31:53):
He's like eleven for thirteen four hundred and sixty five yards.
You know, he did not even throw a touchdown though,
that's what he said.

Speaker 20 (31:59):
I don't even throw a touchdown, I said, because everything
would give it to Omar.

Speaker 17 (32:03):
He's he had four speaking over coach.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
I'm telling you, he's like a freaking mac truck, like
I don't know what.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
He's even bigger than he was last year.

Speaker 17 (32:12):
He's about ten right now, about about five eight five nine.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
What was he last year?

Speaker 20 (32:17):
Because he was pretty about two hundred last year on
ten pounds and muscles, and he was about three seventy
five right now.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
He gets Yeah working on that strength then, yeah, yeah, we.

Speaker 17 (32:27):
Worked on it all summer and you got the guy.

Speaker 20 (32:29):
You know, you got Peyton Plott who was electric the
other night, the one one time he touched it on
special teams.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yeah, he was in the house. Yeah, you talking about
the coach, Yes, that's the coach. I look, some guys
I forgot about him. Coach, I don't you know? You've
got some many play that's hate list of names. You
leave him out. But you did a good job playing
a lot of kids.

Speaker 16 (32:49):
I know.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
I think we did anything. All of our coaches got.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
The guys in coaching. Coach to coach.

Speaker 17 (32:55):
Oh yeah, oh my god, yeah, my gosh. If you
look ill, I said with this one right here, I
didn't have to worry about.

Speaker 20 (33:03):
Coaching a lot when he was on the field because
he knew exactly what we wanted.

Speaker 17 (33:08):
Oh God make things so.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Coach Smiley, that's Auburn High Keith, that's appreciate. Least got
Buster Daniel. We got Brady Saguevski and Walker Lane in
the house when we come back. Welcome back to mose
B Barbeque at Mick Creek and Auburn Sight of the

(33:31):
High School Coaches Show every Wednesday night here all the
way through Thanksgiving. We'll be here. Hopefully we have some
teams that will be playing on through Thanksgiving. Because if
they're playing through Thanksgiving, Coach Daniel, that means you still alive.
It's all right, he wants to talk. That means you're
still alive playing in the playoffs. And speaking of coach
Buster Daniel got one of his grandsons out here and
a couple of players. But we got coach Daniel. Least

(33:51):
got Academy head coach. Good evening coach.

Speaker 22 (33:53):
Even d Mark, good to see you.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
Good to be here.

Speaker 23 (33:55):
And Jeff, I know you ain't got your headphones on
because Hoody's.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Playing with them right now. Is that hooey?

Speaker 1 (33:59):
Is that is it's Hudson Hudson called him puddy. There
you go, Hudson. He's got him on. Now, Hey, Hudson,
he's got resisting. That's hold Hudson. You just tell her
eighteen months eighteen months. So I'm glad Hudson's in house. Coach, Danniel,
congrats on the win. You started, HSA played with a bang.

Speaker 6 (34:13):
I pull up.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
It was fourteen nothing and then they scored. I brought
you bad luck, went fourteen to seven. You come up
to the hill at halftime, but you dominated second half.
For grants, well, I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 23 (34:23):
There's a big win for us as a football team.
Big win at least gott Academy and U. You know,
just we're just super proud of our guys.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Tyler Kennedy had a couple of touchdown. Brady Siksko, who
got Player of the Week, had a couple of touchdowns.
You played two quarterbacks. I'll let you kind of go
through real quick here your thoughts on I know, defensive
you have some guys that played real well. Hayden Kelly
had had a good game. I know there's some others.
So that you make some comments, oh absolutely, you.

Speaker 23 (34:47):
Know Brady, of course he had two touchdowns. I think
he would you have Brady four or five tackles and
a couple of cis. And so he played on both
all special teams and got Walker laying here along with
Brady and Walker. Probably he graded over ninety percent. Had
a great game. He got a little lucky little duck
walk he did after a block way down field, you know,
so we're getting fits about that one. But I had
a great game. I'm super proud of our guys. The

(35:09):
defense man had stepped up. You know, Demark, you were
there when these guys got off the bus. I was
wondering what I got us into.

Speaker 22 (35:16):
Yeah, they were.

Speaker 23 (35:16):
They were a big, big football team, very physical, but
you know, our guys.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
You know, still total toe with him.

Speaker 23 (35:22):
Took the punches and gave out, my goodness, gave out
a few punches, you know, and we came out on
a good end of it. I think I think our
condition I told you last week, our conditioning, and I
just it was gonna help us, and I think it did.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
And at the end of the game, I don't even
think I said to score with thirty three sixteen if
I didn't apologize, but you you went in it was
fourteen seven. What were you thinking at halftime? Because they
scored right there then you had a fourteen nothing league
and I believe did you fake a punt right before half?
It was that the second half when you found that pun?

Speaker 3 (35:46):
You know, I don't remember.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
I think we have been a second half okay, yeah,
because I saw that play in my mind, I was
thinking when it was me calling the game right there,
but at halftime, real quick, what were you thinking?

Speaker 23 (35:54):
Well, halftime, I knew this and it was a good
football team, and I knew they were getting tired.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
You could tell on that. Yes, there was.

Speaker 23 (36:00):
You know, we had another chance right there before half
time to score when we've been up twenty one to
nothing at time. Uh but but anyway, you know we
had we you know, just just didn't get get the
pass completed. It was just to Brady again, you know,
and they they got to pick right that before halftime,
and then we went up up up fourteen to six
and fourteen eight.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
I'm sorry they went and uh, you know, we we
knew if we if.

Speaker 23 (36:23):
We did things right and play together's team and just
was disciplined, it would work out an end. So that's
where we talked about a halftime just doing things right
and playing together and you know, just keep doing what
we're doing.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
Go to poker Friday night on the road, right.

Speaker 23 (36:37):
Uh, well, just it's gonna be a good game for us.
I've never been a poker player game they've been to
watch a game there. It's gonna be a good night
for us.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
Uh.

Speaker 23 (36:45):
You know, they're they're dedicating the field to coach Tate
and uh, co coach More of that. Believe I don't
I don't remember coach More, but I know he coached
Tate and.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
Always at Jones Jones. That's right.

Speaker 5 (36:54):
I'm sorry, I'm here.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
He is.

Speaker 23 (36:56):
He is chilly, good guy in a long time. You know,
he working, He work with my father in law and
then that a little bit. But anyway, great guy and uh,
you know, then we're gonna they gonna, I think, honor
the uh the young man that passed over there. So
you know, it's gonna be a good night and then
we're gonna play football after that.

Speaker 5 (37:12):
I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Introduce these two young men right here.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
We talked about Brady SI.

Speaker 23 (37:16):
Guess you already number thirteen play slot receiver, plays cornerback,
return man on kicking teams and then Walker lane, which
is offensive lineman and defensive lineman. Walker's been playing football
how many years now?

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Four five?

Speaker 6 (37:32):
And he has turned in from I didn't know that's
a Menda's football player.

Speaker 5 (37:35):
Now.

Speaker 23 (37:35):
He was a basketball baseball the way back in the day,
and we got him come out in football, and man as.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
It paid off. Is he really really good for us? Coach?
So these guys let them talk with me.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Thank you, congrats on you win, coach. All right, Walker,
I mean we'll go you first, Brady Waits, but Brady, congratulations.
Player of the week. He won that, right, it's fifty
percent enough to win, right, all right? Good job Friday night?
A couple of touchdowns, right, you and te Tyler Kennedy
talk about those a little bit, if you will.

Speaker 16 (38:00):
I think we did a great job blocking on the outside.
Those were both of them were jet sweeps and we
just got got the edge out there and I was
just able to punch it in.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Who made the key block? Harrison short and Harrison number
six h yes, sir, yeah, I saw him do a
little extra the other night too. But anyway, did you
get that two? Coach? I was like, come on, Harrison, anyway,
I'm kidding all right, So what was that first touchdown?

Speaker 3 (38:24):
The sec?

Speaker 1 (38:24):
Was that the first one second touchdown? What was it
on your second touchdown? Oh? Yeah, past, that's what it was.
Your second touchdown?

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Oh no, they were both sweeps.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
They were yes, sir, okay, coaches are okay both you
said that. That's reason I was wondering, okay and winning
player of the week. What's you think about that? Right
off the bat? I was definitely blessed.

Speaker 24 (38:43):
Uh.

Speaker 16 (38:43):
I couldn't have done without the guys though. I mean
they played a great game all around, our defense. I
couldn't have done without our line, our defense, everyone just
all around, great, great game for us.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
You did, You and Kenny Tyler t k y'all combine
for about one hundred and eighty yards, d get two
touchdowns a piece, and you're lying, you're talking, you're good
on he you played good? Walker, Hey can play good? Uh, Kelly,
and then your linebackers played good to coach Christian and
then your linebackers, all your linebackers, yeah, yeah, he said
they Walker talk about that a little bit. Good to

(39:13):
see you too, Walker.

Speaker 25 (39:14):
I think the linebackers definitely feel like every holder was
on dese, especially when it did get gaping open off
of the D line, maybe not doing their job every
time the linebackers were there to fill it and made
the tackle.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
Now, Sam Jackson, I saw him. He's not able to
play yet. Where does he is he gonna when he
was he down front? Or is he a line he'll
be a linebacker? Okay, there you go, all right, and
so this week going to loch Poko. But you go
ahead and tell me about what you're thinking.

Speaker 7 (39:38):
Oh, well, I'm very excited.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
First road game in the A H S A A.
There you go, ready, ready, ready to show them what
we got.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
So you only played football for four years? Yes, I
didn't know that. I had no idea. All right, Brady,
your turn going to loch Poka. And now look you
you win a game that you got a lot left, right,
So tell me about Friday night playing at loach Poke.

Speaker 16 (39:57):
Well, we really don't know too much about him. We
know they're gonna be fast and physical. Uh, we're gonna
have to go out there and give it all we got.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
Maybe we come out with a whim. Now is everybody grounded?
How's everybody at practice? Everybody been okay? Yes, sir?

Speaker 21 (40:08):
Healthy?

Speaker 1 (40:08):
Really all right? Now they say from week one to
week two, you get better. So what do y'all have
to get better on? You first walking?

Speaker 25 (40:16):
Probably just blocking on the outside, I know, I know
we had a little rough blocks and o line of course,
always get always got to get better on the online part.
We missed a couple of blocks on last Friday night.
But I think we're ready to go.

Speaker 16 (40:30):
I got it all done, Brady, Yes, sir, I think
it's just it's just really the little things right now
we got to focus on. I think we played a
really good game last Friday and we just got to
tune up.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Some of the little things were fine. Yeah, I thought,
I thought all you guys played Christian play well. I
mentioned Kelly you had is it Sims the other running back? Maybe, sir,
he played really well. I'm leaving anybody else Coach stands yeah,
zachar Yeah, you asked the jow men some questions. Jeff,
we got about a minute a half.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
I know about your two quarterbacks. How did they do
Friday night?

Speaker 1 (41:00):
You're gonna have to put a headset on, coach because
we can't hear it. We can't hear him.

Speaker 21 (41:06):
There.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
We Yeah, they both played well.

Speaker 7 (41:08):
You know, they both bring a different aspect to the game.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
But they both played well.

Speaker 23 (41:12):
I think we were like twenty or twenty five on
passing for a couple of the yards.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Uh two touchdowns, I think. But yeah, they both played well.
We're excited about what the future holds. Be too familiar.
But yeah, the new young the young man that just
got there. I'll see him Friday night. That's right, that's right.

Speaker 23 (41:29):
And now, like I said, he's doing a good job.
He's still learning the offense. Uh, he hadn't got a
total grasp for it yet, but he's getting there, getting
better each day.

Speaker 5 (41:36):
But uh, listen, we got two guys that can, you.

Speaker 23 (41:39):
Know, do the job at any time, and so we
we we're greedy with both of them.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
We go ahead.

Speaker 1 (41:44):
And I was gonna mention someboke, you keep going to
let you finish.

Speaker 23 (41:47):
No, I'm just saying, you know, we can lie on
either one of them. We're in a good situation with
two good quarterbacks. We hadn't had that in a couple
of years at these guys. You know, we had one
last year with Peals. We couldn't run him much and
we couldn't get hurt. Now we can turn him loose,
you know, turn both of them lose, and we're doing that.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
So that last thing, but is that dad's a baseball coach.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
Cook.

Speaker 1 (42:02):
He made a nice.

Speaker 23 (42:03):
Barrett, Barrett, how about to putting job you doing? I
didn't realize I forgot two punts average fifty yards.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
Beautiful, John, guys, good to see y'all. Good John, Congratulations Brady,
all right, Warper, Yes, sir, We'll be right back with
open dula.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
Welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. We're coming
to live from Roe's original Barbecue here in a sponsored
by the ors Pede Clinic game Grory's Furnitures Press and
next up is Bueller and we got h Beutial High
Schools coach Pepper and coach Coursing. Right, did I say
all that? Right? All right? Good deal? Uh coach. Last
week Abbeyville, it was a good game for us.

Speaker 26 (42:43):
Early on, we we came out, you know, smoking on
the offense, and uh, we had a lot of we
had some you know, miss uh missed assignments offensively, and
but we came out we played well over all the
first half and then unfortunately second half we just stumbled
around and just we didn't score with three points second house.

(43:03):
So that's something we're gonna have to definitely work on
in fits this week playing the Lynette Panthers, Like we
a lot of people, Uh yeah, everybody got a chance
to play and we didn't.

Speaker 5 (43:16):
You know.

Speaker 26 (43:17):
Fortunately we came out without any injury, so that's that
was huge for our part. But it was hot, you know,
so we had to get a lot of people out there,
and it's gonna be hot to getting this Friday night,
so you just gotta do what you gotta do this
time of year. And you know, we were we were
pleased with the win, but at the same time, we
found a whole lot we work on, which is supposed

(43:37):
to game one of the game two. You know, uh,
if we were perfect by now, we'd be you know,
be worried about it because, uh, just the second week
of the.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
Year or so.

Speaker 26 (43:46):
But overall, I think, you know, we played well considering
going down there, loan trip stuff like that, so you know,
no excuse is we we should have played better. That
second happened. So that's something we try to construt on
this week.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Run heavy, pass, heavy, kind of a good mix. Coach,
you know, Coach did a good job.

Speaker 26 (44:04):
Missed it up, especially early on we try to get
him a little tired, so we you know, run screen
outside zone, screen, you know, and then run inside zone.
Try to keep him running from side to side, especially
early on, like I said, because of.

Speaker 3 (44:17):
The heat, and.

Speaker 26 (44:20):
I think offensive line, you know, I think we played
adequate offensive line wise, so we were able to run
the football when we needed to. I think we ran
three backs, you know, pretty much the entire game, you know,
rotating those three guys in and quarterback played real well.
Forming did a really good job at quarterback. He's matured

(44:40):
quite a bit. He does a really good job when
things break down in the pocket. He made something happen
out of nothing, and a lot of times he does
a really good job of just throwing the ball away.
And you get a kid that can do that at
his age and his level, you know, you got a
good Sif you got a chance to have a police
to play the.

Speaker 3 (44:59):
Next this is something you really talk about. Is that
something you really go through? Like, you know, if you
don't have anything, it's better just a right when you
talk about it.

Speaker 26 (45:08):
But you know, they just still teenage boys, so they
don't never grasp that on a Friday night. They get
it Monday through Thursday. But then when the bullets start
start flying, they they tend to forget that and they
just go back to natural instincts and and but that's
what I'm saying about Form. And he's been playing long
enough now that the game slowed down for him. You
can tell he he doesn't run full speed until he

(45:31):
has to. He literally he is. You can watch him.
You like, man, he's not real fast, but he's really fast.
He's just literally letting the game play out in front
of him. And that's what he does when he gets
the football in his hand. From a throwing standpoint, if
if he's got somebody to throw it to, he's gonna
throw it. Not he's gonna throw it over or try to,
you know, run out of bounds, and he'll run and

(45:51):
you know, instead of play and then just throw it
out of bounds. Well, he's thrown at the coach of course,
and a couple of times in the last two weeks.

Speaker 6 (45:57):
You know, so oh yeah I did, receiver.

Speaker 3 (46:01):
Hey, we're gonna get him. Heck about it. Hey, you
know what you traveled last week? And yeah, we'll go
We'll go there. We're gonna road a good, pretty good trip.
Daddyville y. Yeah, coming home and this should be a
good crap. That's not far. Yeah, twenty minutes and they
stopped off. You know what I mean. You know, I'm

(46:24):
I'm considering traffic when they're riding behind the bus bringing
the players and all that, you know, because they should
bring I would think that that should be an exciting atmosphere.

Speaker 1 (46:33):
We hope so both one and us.

Speaker 3 (46:35):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 26 (46:35):
And you know you talk about Lynette Panthers from football,
you're talking about a powerhouse. It's traditionally strong from the fifties.
So yeah, you know, I graduated from there, so I
played there, and I know what that means, what football means.
There was people in that area, and so we're hoping
to have a big crowd. We're just hoping that when

(46:58):
the game's over, the beautiful of Cats half something to
be proud of.

Speaker 1 (47:01):
Coach Corson knows you talked a little bit about your
side and your thoughts on the NET. Yeah if yeah,
you want to go back and talk about last week
if you want to.

Speaker 13 (47:10):
Yeah, But Net's got some good looking kids out there
there there. Their running back is pretty good, number eight.
He gets down hill pretty good. Behind his paths, They've
got a receiver number one that can we don't want
him to get the top speed he can kind of
take off from you. Their offensive line is big. Their
right tackle number fifty four is uh. He looks really

(47:33):
really good on tape. I mean he's a guy that
we think we were talking today, we were watching film today.
I mean, his footwork in his hands and he looks
like a guy that could play on a Saturday somewhere.
So he's he's he's really good. You know, they baseblock
a lot, they come off the ball pretty good, and
they punch you. So we've gotta be ready. I mean
we've corrected some things that that we saw from Abbeyville game.

(47:57):
I mean we got after them pretty good out side
line to sideline. I mean their quarterback, their quarterback is
really really good as far as you know, being mobile,
and Abbyville's quarterback had a strong arm too. So you know, hopefully,
you know, we fix some coverage issues and you know,
if Lynette wants to throw the ball, we'll be ready
for that. But we think they want to run it.

(48:18):
I mean we saw them running against Bullet County and
the second half that they were they kind of run
a wildcat on them.

Speaker 3 (48:23):
Side. Well you Coach McDonald said his offensive line average
is two seventy.

Speaker 6 (48:26):
Yeah, they're big.

Speaker 13 (48:27):
They're big and they come off the ball, so you
know it'd be a good test for us our devents line.
I mean we can hold up. We just you know,
we gotta do it for four quarters.

Speaker 1 (48:34):
Sure, good to see all guys.

Speaker 3 (48:36):
Co Crats yeap, hey and good luck Friday night. I
appreciate y'all what we're gonna need it.

Speaker 1 (48:39):
Yeah, go Bobcat there you go do the Bobcats in
the house where at Moles High School Coaches Show continues.
We're gonna take a break. Brian Moore, the old Black
of Bolldall coach and we come back. You're listening to
the Coaches so presented by the AUTH Defeity Clinic and
go Eats Front Sure Express, Welcome back to Moe's Barbecue.

(49:01):
Most of the coaches show by the Orth Pitty Clint
and Mos and thea Pitda Clint and Gorye's Front Special
Jason Lee, d Mark Jeff were live on the Branda
at Mo's High School Coaching Something, The Kicker, Fox Sports,
the Game, the iHeartRadio app every Wednesday six to eight.
We just taught Bob cat football. Now we're talking Opelaco

(49:22):
football with Brian Moore, the head coach of the Dogs.
Good to see you, coach, more, thank you guys man.

Speaker 5 (49:26):
Glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (49:27):
Yep, second time this week we get to talk to
rats on the win, your first as the dog head
coach on the road against Benjamin Russell.

Speaker 5 (49:34):
Yeah, it was a good night. Excited for our kids
and the community and you know, we got we got
a lot to fix, but it was it was a
good night. Our kids were really excited. Great energy on
the sideline. Uh and uh again, just glad to get
that one behind us. Really already had a good crowd there, coach,
great crowd, good, great crowd, man. Everything went smooth, you know,
pre game and just I thought our kids really really

(49:56):
did a great job as far as big business like
traveling and do it the right way.

Speaker 1 (50:00):
So proud of them all right, had a couple of
quick touchdowns. I think he had to open the kit,
returned it down to the thirty six and then them
another touchdown, kind of talking about the fourteen oh start
and then kind of you know, take us to the
game real quick.

Speaker 5 (50:12):
And yeah, so we had Calvin scored first play, which
was a great way to start.

Speaker 1 (50:18):
And so it was yeah, first offensive, Yeah, the first offensive.

Speaker 5 (50:21):
Snap and had it had to you know, Jackson Lee
and Darius Whitlow were two pullers out there in front.
He went untouched thirty six yards, So great job there
to start. And then we got a second quarter touchdown.
Calvin scored again and on two runs he had a
great run on bucksweep and then and then ran inside
zone for a touchdown. And then uh, you know after
half though we didn't start the half very good. You know,

(50:41):
they scored a touchdown. Their first drive went eighty yards,
and we had some penalties and they found their big
receiver in the end zone. Got it to fourteen seven,
which changes the game. You know, one score games are different,
and but we responded both times they scored in the
second half, we responded so to make it twenty one seven,
and then they scored again and then we responded with
a third and thirteen touchdowns. Huge play in the game

(51:03):
with oln Washington.

Speaker 1 (51:04):
So what did you call?

Speaker 10 (51:05):
What was it?

Speaker 5 (51:06):
It was just a big post by him, kind out
by two and then I think three was in the flats.
But you know, great throw on time, great protection, Blitz
coming after him and we picked it up good early season.

Speaker 1 (51:17):
That's tough to do good.

Speaker 5 (51:18):
So proud of our kids and rotating. That was our
second tackle that was in the game that picked it
up because we said we're gonna play eight and we did.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
It was that second Eric Mason to get it out
to you want to ask for sure?

Speaker 3 (51:30):
Yeah, you said you had something, correct? Is that when
you got it?

Speaker 1 (51:36):
Yeah, we can't.

Speaker 3 (51:38):
It's turned. Uh, there you go when you knew. So
I'm talking about it. Is it Is it more of
the like the actual execution of the play, or is
it a mental part of the game that that or
is it is it all of the buzz?

Speaker 5 (51:50):
It's kind of all the above. I mean really it's
it's like, I mean, the the ten holding penalty or
the ten penalties six of which we're holding, Like that
can't happen. I mean, you can't win like that. You
can't win when four of your ten drives are first
and twenty. I mean, that's really hard to overcome. When
we stayed on schedule, we're in really good shape.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
You know.

Speaker 5 (52:06):
We scored on four of ten drives and four of
them were first and twenties. We didn't score on. So
that can't happen to me. You can't. You can't function
like that in our in our region, or any of
the teams we play for that matter. So we got
to clean that up. But just little things, you know. Really,
I was the thing I was proud of those is
the ball didn't hit the ground. You know, we took
care of it. We had one, uh, but that we
got back. That was just an exchange issue, but we

(52:27):
took care of it. Our running backs really protected our
quarterback protected it. So that was good. And then the
biggest thing though in the whole game though, was three busts,
three major busts on the back end. That can't happen.
We have to we have to change that immediately. Worked
hard on this week because those are massive plays against
a really skilled team, uh and they took advantage of
those opportunities. So we just got to be better there.

Speaker 3 (52:46):
For sure, when you're coaching someone, it's got a I'm
just gonna say, you know, we'll see what like they got. Yeah,
and you're gonna face.

Speaker 5 (52:52):
Some more down the road, Yeah for sure.

Speaker 3 (52:54):
Are you are you talking to you to defens back
say I don't care where the ball goes you stay
with this guy. Yeah, is that the kind of conversation
you have, There's no doubt. I mean, okay, I was
just wanted. I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (53:04):
You know, all week you put a coaching over here.

Speaker 5 (53:06):
Coach a week, you know, you put a kid in
that jersey number one, and you follow him around the
field and you double cover him everywhere, and then somehow
he sneaks out and catches a third and twenty five
for first down, and later in a drive he catches
a touchdown in here like and he's uncovered, and you go,
you know, if there's one person you know in this
you know, whole stadium that you need to know where
it is, that's number one for Ben Russell, and we

(53:29):
lost him twice. It just can't happen. So again, you
want to win down the road in these tight ball games,
you got to stay connected to people during the scramble
drill of the quarterback, and you got to be great
on the back end and be right.

Speaker 3 (53:38):
And every week there's gonna be one of those guys.
I don't know who it is, just being multiple guys. Well, yeah,
got these guys too. I don't know as much about that.
Of course, Central and Cars right, I know everybody. I'm
sure both in enterprise, all of them.

Speaker 5 (53:53):
Guys see see receivers everywhere.

Speaker 1 (53:54):
Yeah, they are all right this week, Uh Calloe at home.
Gallaway lost two weeks ago. They were all open last week.
That's right, George team. Not a lot of people know
about them, So you tell something about Callaway.

Speaker 3 (54:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (54:05):
So Calloway is really talented. I think they've played four
times open, like a four times and two and two
and it's been really close, almost down to maybe a
point or something differcts in those games. And I've never
been a part of it, never played them, but super talented.
You know, it's a local game. It's a nice game
to have both you know, both years will travel and
uh you know that'll be great for a crowd, you know.
And again you want those games, man, you don't want

(54:27):
to have to go a long way, you know, to
to play. And I liked the Alabama Georgia deal, the
border war type thing. I think that's kind of neat
and new for our kids. And so they're really talented,
very well coached. Coach has been there a long time.
Coach Wiggins, I think maybe twenty years or something. It's
he's been there and built his program and done a
really good job. So it'll be a challenge for us.
We'll be excited to being Bulldog Stadium, though, I can

(54:48):
tell you that all right.

Speaker 1 (54:49):
Everybody Week one, week two, they all, this is our mess, bigot.
You know we got improved you into that you believe
that I do and what what we're going to do
better at.

Speaker 5 (54:58):
I just think I mentioned some Yeah, just executing and
not shooting ourselves in the foot man. You can't again,
everything that we did in that game Friday night was
self inflicted, you know, from the holding calls to losing
guys on the back end to it. You know, we're
in plus territory multiple times to push the game out
to maybe three scores, and we can't do it because
we get behind the change and so it changes the

(55:20):
way you call the game.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
You know.

Speaker 5 (55:22):
Coach Atkins, I thought did a great job as far
as play call, especially on the two posts that we
hit for touchdowns. But we got to clean that stuff
up so we stay on schedule. We're not a team
we talked about this Monday on your show, Mark, We're
not a team that's going to bounce back from first
and twenty. I mean, we're gonna have to be clean
and execute and be efficient. We just we got to
clean all that stuff up. But I know every coach
is trying to do that in State of Alabama right now.

(55:42):
But really for us to be successful, we've got to
be really disciplined and super efficient in the game.

Speaker 1 (55:47):
You talk about finishing the game, you did finish it Monday,
it did Friday, you did finish the win for sure.

Speaker 5 (55:52):
Yeah. I mean that was something as far as resilience
and then bouncing back to both of their touchdowns, that's
got to happen for us. I mean, you know, just
to just go play the next play, you know, don't
get locked into you know, the what's just happened. It's
twenty one fourteen. I'm freaking out, you know, don't don't
do that. Just stay in the game, stay in the moment,
play play to play, and just you know, continue to
fight back and again for us with a tenth grade quarterback,

(56:13):
for him to drop back on third and thirteen, that's
with the one score deal and hit a hit a
guy in stride, that's a pretty good That speaks volumes
for him and his ability going forward, seven, eight, eight
to nine.

Speaker 1 (56:23):
He missed one pass, miss one pass, and that's on me.

Speaker 5 (56:26):
We've got to open that up a little bit more
and trust him that he can do it, and trust
our offensive line to hold up in protection. So again
you'll see this will be a little bit more balanced
this Friday. But we're excited and every game I hope.
You know, obviously with him, he's gonna get a little
bit better too.

Speaker 1 (56:39):
Did you punt?

Speaker 5 (56:40):
We did uh three or four times? Not as good
as I is in practice if we were fine. We
had one that was such I think fifteen yards, which
can't happen. But in practice he's absolutely vombinant. And he
asked me today, he said, hey, we get in practice
film of punty so I can send to these colleges
and say, baby, they don't want to see them, they
want to see you sucker on Friday, I said, And

(57:00):
you're gonna do that this Friday. All the confidence in him,
the camera d of the snappers, so Zion is gonna
be really really good.

Speaker 3 (57:06):
For it on inside the ball ahead of the other coach.
You think, in your opinion, was it about the same.

Speaker 5 (57:10):
You know, I think defensively we should be I mean,
we're older. There's a ton of experiences. It should be ahead.
But again, that whole thing feels different if we don't
have those busts. To me, I just can't get past
those three.

Speaker 1 (57:22):
Place time possession. Didn't they didn't they have it?

Speaker 5 (57:25):
Yeah, killed it, you know, but part of that was
quick strikes.

Speaker 1 (57:28):
Yeah, good point, you know, one play drives and that
sort of thing.

Speaker 5 (57:30):
But no, in the spring game, that's quite right. At
the office, you know, they snapped it as many times
at halftime as we did in the whole bar can't happen,
and so we got to control the clock for sure.

Speaker 1 (57:39):
Well you got the win and the he congratulations for coach.
We're good to see you, Bud, Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (57:44):
Friday night, see your family here.

Speaker 1 (57:45):
He gets feeling better. Thank you, like as at home
his home open and Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. We'll
take a quick break. We're to come back. Southern Prep
is next from the Igh School Coaches Show at Moe's Barbecue.

Speaker 3 (57:58):
From Moe's Original Barbecue. We got coach rolling Bell. Missed
you last week. Coach.

Speaker 6 (58:03):
Well, we got a big staff this year, so I'm rotating.

Speaker 3 (58:04):
Folks. Hey, you got to introduce the people to your
left let's go down because I don't know everybody. I
just met your new president.

Speaker 6 (58:11):
Okay, well, I was gonna introduce our new president.

Speaker 24 (58:14):
Uh, Colonel Colonel Ramsby god, I'm getting over and uh
a returning.

Speaker 6 (58:23):
Well, he was an alumni.

Speaker 24 (58:24):
He played a national championship game for US, went away,
played college football, and now he is back on staff as.

Speaker 6 (58:30):
A coach and working up in admissions. Garrett Peebles, he's
our special teams coordinator.

Speaker 3 (58:36):
All right, well, Garrett, it's nice to meet you too, Yes, sir,
nice to meet you. All right, so last week, you're
only a eleven man game, right, Squart Academy. This year,
y'all try to play at least one every year.

Speaker 24 (58:45):
I'd play more if ai SA would give us more leeway.
But you know when when you got a lot of
teams in the league.

Speaker 3 (58:52):
All right, well, you know, let's talk about We're gonna
talk about the eleven man game briefly. Then we'll move
on to the to the ape man. He regular schedule,
Smart Academy. That was a long trip, wasn't it, Coach?

Speaker 24 (59:02):
It wasn't as long as I thought. We got there
about thirty minutes earlier than unattended.

Speaker 3 (59:06):
Okay, weathers see you gotta go down Evergreen, Yes, sir, okay,
that's pretty Just stop by Coneck and get you.

Speaker 6 (59:11):
Some sauce, little dude. It's a business trip, all right.

Speaker 3 (59:15):
Hey, Sparta Academy. To talk about the game real quick,
then we'll move on. You lost thirty four or nothing?

Speaker 1 (59:20):
They did?

Speaker 3 (59:21):
Shut you out, CROs What what happened?

Speaker 6 (59:23):
Well, uh, quite a few things.

Speaker 5 (59:27):
You know.

Speaker 24 (59:27):
I'm I'm I didn't prepare the boys well enough. They
thought we were just go down there and show up
and win, and it doesn't work that way. I'd explain
it to him at halftime. And uh, but you know,
we we had a starting tackle went down on the
opening kickoff and we don't know how long he's out for.

Speaker 3 (59:44):
So this isn't your son, is it? No?

Speaker 6 (59:46):
No, no, no, no, no, thank god, because they're not
here crying all the time.

Speaker 24 (59:51):
But we had to then bring in for the entire
game an eighth grade lineman who's never played above youth baul.

Speaker 6 (01:00:01):
So uh that that heard us some.

Speaker 24 (01:00:04):
But then we're also starting a ninth grade quarterback who
has never played quarterback beyond youth fault. He was on
the JV last year, but he was injured, so he
only played a couple of games last year as a
wide receiver. But I see the potential in him and
he's gonna be great. He just he just got to
grow up first.

Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
Okay, the real quick, let's go over the eleven eight
man alignment. This was a this was eleven man game.
Let's talk about the eight man alignment because a lot
of people don't they hadn't seen one, don't understand that.
I just want to go over real quick. Okay, you
got a center, two guards, backs, and receivers in the
quarterback right.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Yes, So.

Speaker 24 (01:00:45):
What you lose in the eight man game is the
two offensive tackles and a back or receiver.

Speaker 6 (01:00:52):
And then on defense. You know, there's so many different defenses.
You can pick what you what you lose.

Speaker 24 (01:00:57):
But we run a three three with two corners, so
we lose a defensive lineman and we don't play with safeties.

Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
You run in that the defensive set the whole game.

Speaker 24 (01:01:07):
Usually, yes, we have variations depending on what's going on,
but we call it Amba defense. So whatever happens, we
don't even have to make a call. They just adjust
to it.

Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
If it's a run, I mean, an obvious Rundown or.

Speaker 24 (01:01:20):
Well if they're if they've got you know, five on
the line, we've only got three linemen. We'll drop the
middle linebackers, we'll have four linemen and we'll run a
four to two basically.

Speaker 3 (01:01:28):
Okay, all right, this week you got Kusa Vallet Academy.
This is a team this is Is this a region game? Yes?
So they are an eight man region game. Yes, sir.
We played them last year.

Speaker 6 (01:01:39):
Never played them.

Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
This is the first year they played in eight man.

Speaker 24 (01:01:43):
They played eight man like four or five years ago,
just because they didn't have enough and we were scheduled
to play them. But like the Wednesday we were supposed
to that week we were supposed to play them. He
calls a coach, I ain't got a seven players. So
we end up that was the year we had to
last minute pick up Cornerstone an eleven man game for
home coming and pay them to come to our place

(01:02:06):
and beat us.

Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
And is that the same Cornerstone that's playing eight man now?

Speaker 6 (01:02:08):
Yes, sir?

Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
Okay, all right, So what about what's Kuci Balley tell
me about the Cusi Valley Academy.

Speaker 24 (01:02:14):
Well, here's the thing we don't know. We know they
ran the wing tea an eleven man, and we know
they tried to spread it out some, but an eight
man just don't know what they're gonna do. And they
haven't played a game yet, so there is no there
or anything. And from when they were eight man before,
different coach.

Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
So are you guessing what's it gonna run? I mean what?

Speaker 24 (01:02:36):
Yeah, we're I mean they we they had the same
coach they had last year, running the wing tea and
spreading out some. So we're working on both of those.
But we also work on against our own defense or
excuse me, our own offense, so that and we run
multiple so we're basically prepared for almost anything.

Speaker 3 (01:02:54):
Okay, coach Faebs, what what position do you?

Speaker 5 (01:02:56):
What are you coaching?

Speaker 27 (01:02:57):
I helped with the special teams and the special teams coordinator,
and I also coach the receivers and the defensive backs.

Speaker 3 (01:03:01):
Okay, tell me about your special teams.

Speaker 27 (01:03:04):
Well, I think they performed very well last week. We
had one month punt, but our defense made a really
good stand down on the goal line and got us
the ball back. Had some great kick returns by an
eighth grader as well as the tenth grader flipped the
field for us and tried to give us some good
field position on offense, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
So I'm sitting here thinking we were eleving man last week,
so I got to think a little different when you're
playing the eleven man last week? How is the how
will your lineup be special? Teams wise? In the eight
man game? So the same minus pretty much pretty much.

Speaker 27 (01:03:40):
And in eight man you see a lot of on
side kicks and a lot of teams might go for
it on fourth down where they wouldn't an eleven man,
being that there's more field, more opportunity.

Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
Is there an algorithm or something you got in your
head that you're gonna go forward or punt it?

Speaker 24 (01:03:55):
Our former president used to He continuously told me, coach,
you need to learn the punt. I'm like, well, the
analytics say yeah, and you know he didn't like it,
but you know, hey, we kept winning.

Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
So have you got a quick kick in there anywhere?

Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:04:09):
Okay, Well I was just wondering your segar. Hey, good
luck this week against Kusabad Academy. It's good to see you, coach.

Speaker 6 (01:04:15):
Yes, sir, thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
It's nice to meeting you, coach. Nice seeing you. I
guess you've been here before, right, Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:04:26):
Welcome back to Mose Barbecue. High School Coaches Show continues
on ninety seven seven KIM and Fox Sports nine ten
thirteen ten The Game. Dean mart Mitchell, Jeff Sasser, Jason Lee.
We are on the veranda where it's a lot of
degrees outside, but we're rolling right along. Feels a lot
better last week than it does tonight, but we're glad

(01:04:48):
to be rolling. Here's a team that did not play
last week. They are here tonight. They were open. Brandon Hall,
Coach Moore, Right, sir, good evening. I know you Coach Hall,
Oh yeah, no doubt. Tell us about coach Moore.

Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
Coach oh yeah.

Speaker 28 (01:05:00):
Coach More is our special teams coordinator, defensive line coach.
Come to us from Marlburn. He was at Auburn last year. Ye,
so he's been doing a great talk. This is a
second year coaching. He've been doing a great job with
the kids and get it done for us.

Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
So proud of him.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
Okay, coach no game last week, had the week off.
I heard you got to go watch at least got Friday. Yeah,
so tell me a little bit about what playing least
got Friday.

Speaker 28 (01:05:21):
Oh yeah, physical, physical football team bus. You got him
playing hard, playing, athletic, fundamentally sound, hard nose football team.

Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Man.

Speaker 28 (01:05:29):
They do a great job. They do a great job
of everything. Run the ball, they can scramble, pass it,
bootlegs and all that. So it's a good football team.
A great defense as well. So you're be a good test.

Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
Now, you're right, you scattered the pretty good coach. All right,
let's talk about your team playing them.

Speaker 28 (01:05:45):
What you think, Oh yeah, yeah, we just got to
make sure we execute well. I think the game plan.
We think the game plan is something that that should
work out pretty good for us. But it's all about execution.
Kids will be fired up to go go out there
and play. They haven't played it so long. They've been
bombed ahead against each other for so long, and it's
kind of way them down a little bit. So they
just ready to go out there and play. Just play
a football game, to be honest with you. So we'll see,

(01:06:07):
we'll see how it works.

Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
Though.

Speaker 1 (01:06:08):
You want to talk about your side, coach once you think,
coach more.

Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
On the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 5 (01:06:13):
I think it's big that we just.

Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
You know, pulled that up a little bit coach up
Mike up there.

Speaker 14 (01:06:17):
On these inside of the balls, Like, I feel like
we just gotta keep contained, try to force anything up
the middle, and just try to win with physicality.

Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
Up front. Have you been tell me about your numbers
and the kids, how they've been responding as far as
just through the weeks since the you know, the incident,
and how they've been progressing to play.

Speaker 5 (01:06:37):
It was it was.

Speaker 14 (01:06:38):
It's been real tough on them, but I've been real
proud of just how they responded, and we just continue
to work hard and hold them accountable and try to
hold them to a standard and just make sure that
all the p's and q's are there, and the odds
are dotted, peas are crossed, and the kids are they're
like coach Paul said, they're just excited to play somebody
else and just trying to keep them working, try to

(01:06:58):
keep them focused.

Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
Yeah, coach, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
You got some of them playing sides of the football, right,
how many you got both ways?

Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
We got about about.

Speaker 28 (01:07:06):
Six of them playing, five or six playing both ways.
Uh but we'll at a bunch of them will get
over there, like two five or six start both ways though.
Uh so we got we're trying to condition all summer. Man,
we still make sure we condition so in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
We'll still be ready to play.

Speaker 28 (01:07:20):
You know, we don't want they get watch so they
play special teams and everything, you know. So it's something
I had to get used to when I first got here,
you know, coming from all we talked about that.

Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
Yeah right now, defense and yeah about.

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Man, we ain't got on coach out there already, most
of them that coach. Yeah, oh, never mind. All right,
so special teams. You he said you were a special
teams coordinator. Can you kick one? Can you kick you
extra point field?

Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Go? Yes, sir?

Speaker 14 (01:07:46):
Uh yeah, I think I think we're pretty solid from
extra point because they got a kicker now at least.

Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
Got oh yeah, I know that.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:07:53):
Uh he kicked to the five.

Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
He did that good.

Speaker 14 (01:07:57):
But yeah, as far as us, I mean, we're pretty
solid for that point. Not too far outside, not what
I want to say, too far outside thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
Yards really to me and Yall's league extra points better
than him. I don't care about it. Right, I'm not
a coach. But you gotta make you got to make them,
I mean not you make them extra points. You got
to have the game coach. You know you don't have
to chase that point all night. Now. You talked about kicking.
How does he do kicking off? Cause that's big when
you kick that in the end zone and they get

(01:08:24):
it at the twin.

Speaker 14 (01:08:26):
He's been doing pretty solid and kicking off. We've just
been doing just doing more work with him. Uh, he
can get it to about about the ten.

Speaker 1 (01:08:33):
Well, that's good.

Speaker 5 (01:08:34):
So there you go.

Speaker 14 (01:08:35):
Got a pretty good heights on this ball, Coach, I
would say, I would say so, I would say he
has a pretty good hight on his ball.

Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
He just continued to work.

Speaker 29 (01:08:41):
Card.

Speaker 14 (01:08:42):
We didn't have him a whole lot over the summer. Uh,
he had to work with his family. So he's just
working working hard as we can now. He works off
off practice.

Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
Big game opening game coach is going to be a
field dedication for the game. Coach Jones, Coach Tate, big night.
We're looking forward to it. Talk about that a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Great night, man.

Speaker 28 (01:08:56):
It means a lot to me into the community because
you know, I've been knowing coach Coach Jones found in
my whole life since I was a little kid. You know,
he started the program and rest in peace to him
and then and then Coach Tate Man, you know, he's
a he's a legend down there.

Speaker 3 (01:09:11):
Legend there.

Speaker 28 (01:09:11):
Coach Man it gets he got the job done and
late to saw it the foundation for all the game
should be played down there. He comes, he comes to
work and sees me. Sometimes you don't give me advice
on things. I appreciate that. So it's gonna mean it's
it's gonna mean a lot man to the community because
they deserve every every bit of it.

Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
I'm glad you guys are doing that. I applaued whoever.
I give Coach Wading the tip because he's the one
a d But I don't know. I didn't know the fam.
I didn't know Coach Jones like I know Coach Tate.
Jeff and I think the world of Coach Tate. We're
gonna be there whatever, We're gonna be there, rocking for you.
Oh yeah, already we got it mapped that we're parking.

(01:09:51):
The winning is coaching, can't school history is drum tap.
So we'll do that. Coach, thank you very much, both Friday,
Thank you you looking forward to see you're over a
coach out in little spoke of Friday. We're rolling along
at the coaching show. I see Jason Allen. He may
be up next. In fact, he is there the Rebels
Chambers of Academy. We'd come back from Moles. High School

(01:10:12):
coaches show rolls along back on live from the veranda
at Mose Barbecue. High school coaches show rolling around. Jeff Sasher,
Jason Lee has been engineering, Jason. Appreciate what you do, Budd.
Jason's our engineering, Joss. He does do a good job, Jason.

(01:10:32):
Jason speaking to Jason. That's Jason Allen, the head coach
of the Chambers.

Speaker 18 (01:10:36):
It was a popping back in the seventies and eighties.
Nobody calls her kids Jason anymore.

Speaker 1 (01:10:40):
But on two of you our name Jason's coach Allen.
Good to see there's.

Speaker 30 (01:10:43):
Only two original ones.

Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
Now I hear you are you?

Speaker 30 (01:10:47):
I'm great, really hot, but I'm glad to hear.

Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
It is hot and we're glad to have you here.
We're at Mose. That's coach Allen. He's the head coach
of the Chambers Academy Rebels. They had a tough trip,
had a nice trip, I guess to start one, but
it wasn't a good one outcome. I don't like to
talk negative, so let's talk real quick last week and
then we moved to this week.

Speaker 18 (01:11:04):
All right, yeah, yeah, we was excited by going over there.
Stark Letter really nice school. They got about eight hundred kids,
a little more goodness what they're a big school man.

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
We made that schedule coach, go ahead.

Speaker 30 (01:11:16):
We wanted to find out what we had early, and
we found out we.

Speaker 1 (01:11:19):
Didn't have exactly little one thirty five thirty one, by
the way, was the final I say that go ahead.

Speaker 18 (01:11:25):
Yeah, but we went over there. We had a little
great crowd support. Our people always show up and drove
all the way across to start with the Mississippi's. First
time I had been to start for some nice little town.
We really nice campus. They were very hospitable. We started off,
we got off to a really good start. We scored first,
went up seven to nothing, and then we stopped them

(01:11:47):
and got the ball back. We're driving, and uh, the
head coach made a poor play call on a slow
play action pass. They blitzed outside linebacker and we missed
him in protection and we threw a pick, and then uh,
we threw two picks actually in the first or second
quarter and kind of got behind there fourteen to seven.
The game was tied up twenty one all there at
halftime and then uh and then we ended up losing

(01:12:10):
the game thirty five thirty one there at the end.

Speaker 30 (01:12:12):
But we rushed for four hundred and thirty seven yards
on the night.

Speaker 18 (01:12:16):
That's probably the first time I've rushed over four hundred
yards in a game and gotten beat.

Speaker 30 (01:12:20):
But we turned them all over.

Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
Wow out of yards to.

Speaker 30 (01:12:25):
Yes, I mean, I was really I was proud of
the horror our kids played.

Speaker 18 (01:12:28):
We had some first game mistakes, and I think one
thing that was a disadvantage for us was that would
start with second game, so you know, but but to
rush for four hundred and thirty seven yards is really
I was proud of. Where we got a physical football team.
You know, we just got to control the football. We
got to keep from turning it over. And I think
we'll be okay, We're looking we think we're hoping we're

(01:12:50):
going to improve defensively this week and and and clean
up some assignments and things like that. I thought our
kicking game could be better, So you know, we had
starts somewhere, all.

Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
Right, Fort Dale. This week coach back on the road
talking about fort Dale. No, no, no, you don't play
Yeah yeah, yeay.

Speaker 18 (01:13:08):
Greenville, Alabama. That feels like a hop skip that jump.
Hadn't played Fort Dale at Chams of Academy. I don't
think at least forty years. You know, they've always been there.
They're a large school, always been a classification or two
above us. But uh, with the way things of shaking
out in the AIS say and the way our school
has grown, we're in the same classification now, and so

(01:13:31):
they're one. And oh they've beat Kansheng nineteen eighty five, nineteen,
I was about right, what right?

Speaker 30 (01:13:36):
Yeah, So I don't remember that.

Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
I just looked it up.

Speaker 30 (01:13:41):
But they got a good football team. We know they're
head coach.

Speaker 18 (01:13:44):
He's a good he does a good job. Fort Dale
has always been a good football program. So we're excited
to go down there for our second road game in
a row. We'll go on the road again next week,
so our first three are on the road. But I'm
excited about the opportunity to go on there and get
better on week two.

Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
Third all time meeting, you're one in one. I just
saw Jason great job right there, all right? Uh, Jason Allen,
head coach, we're talking Fort Dale and least got that, Chambers,
What did I say, at least got really it comes.
It's been a long day. I know you are with
Chambers Academy playing Fort Dale's on. What about playing on
the road.

Speaker 18 (01:14:18):
Again, Yeah, I mean that's a challenge. We we we're
on the road first three games and we got a
whole out of five and then we.

Speaker 30 (01:14:26):
Got to go back again.

Speaker 18 (01:14:27):
Yeah, so you know, it is what it is, and
you know, once to kick it off, you know it's uh,
it's the same size field and uh, you know our
people are gonna be there in supporters, and uh, you know,
we just got to be ready to play it is.
You can't make excuses whether you're at home on the road.
We got to win football games if you want to
accomplish what we want to accomplish at Chambers of the Cabin.

Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
We got to improve on a lot. Are you okay
with you?

Speaker 18 (01:14:50):
Yeah, We're got to improve on. We got to get
better in the kicking game. We didn't do a great
job in the kicking game, and then we had some
turnovers that was a difference in the game. I felt like, yeah,
you tell me, we don't turn the ball over we.

Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Win a football game, lay ground interception a little bit.

Speaker 30 (01:15:03):
Interceptions. We did't fumble football. We just we just kind
of you know, when it was on me.

Speaker 18 (01:15:08):
You know, you're trying to figure out the football team
earlier in the year, and every team is different, and
so offensively, we figured.

Speaker 30 (01:15:17):
Out some things that we may need.

Speaker 18 (01:15:19):
We may need to change course here a little bit
and go with a different protection, or we may need
to roll out to this or that. So we gained
a lot of available information about a football team, and
I think I think we're gonna be fine and we're
gonna get better from it.

Speaker 3 (01:15:32):
Returns from last week. Coach.

Speaker 18 (01:15:34):
Yeah, well we only had seven or eight seniors last
eight seniors last year.

Speaker 30 (01:15:38):
I think we turned six on defense and six on offense.

Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
It's a good number. It's a good number. Coach all
it's good to see. Yes, always be safe traveling. You
got a bunch on the road, So safe travel last
week you bus f ye gotta go quick break from Mo's.
We're gonna take thirty seconds. We're coming back. La fete
one Williams in the house back at Mole's Barbecue. High

(01:16:03):

There's two locations, one in Auburn and one right here
at Ben Creek. We're here every Wednesday, and our Coaches

(01:16:27):
Show is brought to you by Moe's Barbecue, the Orthopedic Clinic,
and the good folks at Goldree's Furnitures. First, good afternoon,
Lafayette Bulldogs, one William and Coach Carswell, how are.

Speaker 9 (01:16:37):
We doing, Hi, gentlemen, are good?

Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
Good, Good to have you guys in the house. Good
win last week. Coach, talk a little bit about the game.

Speaker 9 (01:16:48):
First, our guys came out and played well. Coaches. Coach, Well,
everything that needed to go right went right for.

Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
US forty nine.

Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
Nothing.

Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
I couldn't get that score out because I was trying
to say thirty nine, but I knew it was more
than that. Go ahead.

Speaker 31 (01:17:01):
Yeah, So you know, did great in all fastest of
the ball. The defense, offense, and special teams got a
lot of cleaning up to do. So we worked on
that this week and you know from that game won
the game too. Will sit down and hopefully it gets
better this week for us to clean up the things
that we've seen the need to be cleaned up.

Speaker 9 (01:17:20):
Throughout the week.

Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
Central Haney Bill tell me.

Speaker 31 (01:17:27):
Got a big back, really good athletic quarterback. A new
guy over there from London, so it's brought really.

Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
A football coach.

Speaker 31 (01:17:35):
The new coach, used to one of their assistants, is
the new coach over there and has brought a lot
of football to them. They played a little jumrie last
week against wais Nila, look looked really well. He got
a lot of kids out right now and they pretty
much mirror us, you know. So we gotta we gotta
get ready to play Friday. So good the greatest things

(01:17:55):
at home, so we'll we're gonna see if them dollars
a bark.

Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
All right, all the points, so let coach scurin all
those points, man, tell me about it. Who all played well?

Speaker 21 (01:18:05):
Oh?

Speaker 29 (01:18:06):
First of all, I have a tenth grade quarterback, Kamari Arrington.
They did a great job first time starting. Zeph and
I Phillips had two touchdowns at running back. We have
some good running backs. They're young, they still learn the system,
and a lot of these guys play both ways. So
we try to average between sixty five and seventy plays
a game.

Speaker 10 (01:18:27):
And.

Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
They they rose to the occasion. We got it to about.

Speaker 29 (01:18:32):
Twenty five to thirty plays, and then we took them
out because you know, I'm a firm believing, you know,
letting those young guys developed them on down the path.
So we played a lot of the younger guys in
the second half, but the older guys did get a
chance to do some work. God, I mean, the offensive
line is one that was just stood out to me
because it was their first time with the tempo and

(01:18:54):
the things that we're doing. Offensively, those guys don't get
a break and then they come off the field, they're
talking to me the entire time, so you know it,
it's changed a lot as far as the mentality, and
that's what we strive for each day. Offensively, we we've
set goals and we fell short a couple of those
goals Friday, so they they had to pay the bank

(01:19:16):
Monday when we ran and uh, they they understand it.
So we put a lot of accountability on the offensive.

Speaker 3 (01:19:21):
Side of the ball and uh.

Speaker 29 (01:19:22):
At the same time, the expectations are a little bit
different than they were in the past.

Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
So you know, scoring points is easy for us.

Speaker 29 (01:19:29):
And I say that with tongue and cheap because our
practices are are harder than the game. And that's the
mentality go into when we come to a game on Friday,
it's it has nothing comparison to what we go through
from Sunday after watching film, running and then through Thursday,
cause we still be full past Thursday. A lot of
teams cut back and go help and show me. Now
we full pass. And that's the way we approach it.

(01:19:52):
You know that that hard working mentality and then kind
of get after the you know, the opponents, so they
they are, they're they're wherever up. A lot of things
would have going on. So I'm very excited about any.

Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
Of your offensive line and if they stay on the
field on defense all the all the offensive line would
come off.

Speaker 9 (01:20:11):
Pretty much. We we swapping them in and out.

Speaker 1 (01:20:13):
Yeah we're trying to.

Speaker 9 (01:20:13):
We rotating them a little bit to give them a
little rest. But yeah, now we ain't fifty fifty.

Speaker 22 (01:20:18):
Deep and.

Speaker 1 (01:20:22):
You don't have fifty one or two talking to you.

Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
Then coach.

Speaker 31 (01:20:25):
When they come off there, they're in a lot better
shape this year, so they're being able to handle it
a lot better.

Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
Okay, fifty deep.

Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
I like that how you can build some death when
you win games forty nine, you.

Speaker 9 (01:20:38):
Can build some character.

Speaker 14 (01:20:39):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
That's what I told you.

Speaker 9 (01:20:40):
We gotta we gotta build that.

Speaker 31 (01:20:42):
You know, this has been built up for this, This
summer has been built for this moment, so we had
to take advantage of the moment.

Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
There you go, there you go. It's good to see
you guys. Congrats on the wind. Let's get a big
win at Bulldog House Friday.

Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
See, thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
That's sir, that's the that's making a difference. That that
you winter right there, my man, one Williams. We're gonna
take a break from making a difference. We're going to
Benjamin Russell coach. Smitty Grider will be up next from
the High School Coaches Show at Mose Barbecue. When you're
back at Moe's Barbecue at Bent Creek and Auburn, and
I encourage you to come to most barbecue seven days
a week. Get you something good deep for your family.

(01:21:18):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (01:21:19):
They got it.

Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
Here's Smitty Grider's the head coach oft benjam Russell Wildcats.
He's in the house. Good to see you, Coach Grider.

Speaker 5 (01:21:23):
Good to be here, guys.

Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
Yes, sir, he's dropping that weight, Jeff, he's gonna be
like me for a long big man, he's gonna be skinny.
Hold on what he.

Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
Called somebody skinny? I said, man, it ain't. There's nobody.
It would have to be somebody like a refugee or something.

Speaker 1 (01:21:40):
Oh yeah, what'd you call it?

Speaker 5 (01:21:42):
Cancer?

Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
Pace? Coach?

Speaker 1 (01:21:44):
Ain't that skinny?

Speaker 6 (01:21:45):
All right?

Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
Coach Grider? Anyway, thank you for the compiment. Tough, tough,
tough game last week. Again, So, like I talked about,
I don't like negatives. So we'll talk a little bit
and then you move on. Twenty eight fourteen lost to Yeah.

Speaker 22 (01:21:56):
I mean we knew going in it's gonna be a
tough game, and you know, we hung in there with them.

Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
We made a bunch of mistakes.

Speaker 22 (01:22:04):
We had a lot of pre snap penalties on offence
and a couple of mistakes in the kicking game. Gave
up some big plays defensively, and other than three big
plays on the defensive side, played pretty good on defense.

Speaker 13 (01:22:15):
And then.

Speaker 22 (01:22:17):
You know, offensively, we'd get something going and get a
penalty on third and short turn it into a third
and six and that's a whole new play call. Or
you know, we had a couple of snap issues, but
all in all, you know, played okay against a really
good team, and okay is not good enough, you know.
You know, we had it twenty one to fourteen with
about seven minutes to go, and we got them backed

(01:22:38):
up third and twelve or thirteen and give up a
long pass for a touchdown and just can't do that
against a good team. And then you know that kind
of took us out of a chance to win right
there at the end. So proud of the effort. Kids
played hard, We made some good plays. My quarterback played
hardy threw for two hundred yards and two touchdowns, and
you know, so we got a lot to build on

(01:22:59):
and good some some positive came out of it. We
came out of it healthy, and I think the kids,
looking at the film though, you know that without the mistakes,
we're right there.

Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
At the end with a chance to win. All right.
You played Central Clay over all five and five benjam
Russell and Central Clay last year they won thirty to thirteen.
Talk a little bit about playing Central Clay.

Speaker 22 (01:23:19):
Well, it's Danny Horn the road, It's Danny Horn.

Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
And so you know what, you're winning His coaches in history,
battling every battling every game.

Speaker 22 (01:23:26):
And coach Horn, you know, he always pour mouse and
talks about how bad he's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (01:23:31):
You don't have to waste time on that.

Speaker 3 (01:23:32):
You know.

Speaker 22 (01:23:32):
We know last year he told me his worst team
he ever had and they went ten.

Speaker 1 (01:23:36):
And oh, so, I mean you know that just uh
you know, we can cool some people, but he full
of me and you now he they I.

Speaker 22 (01:23:42):
Mean, he is just so good at getting everything out
of kids. Uh you know, they don't wow you with
how they look. You know, they don't look anything like
the opal like of kids we just played. But I'll
tell you what. They play so hard and so fundamentally sound,
and they believe they can beat the New York As
if they play them. They are so confident in their program.

(01:24:03):
They got a lot of a lot of tradition, uh
that they're that they believe in, and uh, you know they're.

Speaker 6 (01:24:09):
Hard to beat.

Speaker 22 (01:24:09):
I don't care how good you are. You know we're
gonna have to go up there and play well, you know,
if we don't play well, we want win. We play well,
we have a great opportunity if you guys bounce.

Speaker 1 (01:24:19):
I know it's practice to spend hot.

Speaker 10 (01:24:22):
You know this.

Speaker 22 (01:24:23):
Yeah, practices have not been what I want them to
be because of you know, really it's the heat. You know,
last week we kind of got spoiled. It was felt
great outside and you call it this. This heat got
on us this week and it's been you know, been
a little sloppy at practice from dragon and we've had
to really pride the kids and get them to practice well.

(01:24:44):
And uh, you know, but that's every every years the
same thing, you know. So, I mean we'll be ready
to play. We I think we've got a good plan.
You know, we're just gonna have to eliminate the mistakes
that we made last week if we want to win.

Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
You're guys coach who Who's who played well?

Speaker 5 (01:25:00):
Well?

Speaker 22 (01:25:00):
My quarterback he was fifteen out of twenty eight two
hundred and two yards. He had an interception at the
end of the first half, which was a ball he
threw up long. He probably he probably should have handed
it off. It was an RPO deal and got a
little greedy.

Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
But other than that.

Speaker 22 (01:25:16):
I thought he played outstanding. He made plays off schedule,
and we had Jamichael Greer, who's a freshman wide receivers,
kind of burst on the scene for us. He was
not something that we were expecting to make plays, and
he ended up with four catches for seventy five yards
and a touchdown. And you know, with him emerging as
another threat to throw the ball to, that's gonna make

(01:25:39):
us a lot better. Our offensive line played okay. You know,
they played against the probably the best front we'll see
all year, and that good coach. They're good upfront, and
they did a great job. You know, we ran the
ball at times good, but you know, and we protected
well for the most part. We got a lot of
pressure up inside that so the quarterback couldn't step up

(01:26:03):
in the pocket. Their ends come up the field and
you better you better set deep and block them or
they they'll sack you every time. So but our inside
guys got let them get too much pushed and so
the pocket kind of fell in on the quarterback some.
But you know, it was I thought they played well.
Our defensive line played well.

Speaker 5 (01:26:23):
You know.

Speaker 22 (01:26:23):
We, like I said, we had a couple of long
runs and those two long passes were a difference in
the game, you know, against a really good team. So
you know, like I said, I think it's something that
we can gain confidence from looking back knowing that, you
know a lot of the things that caused us to
lose were our own fault, the self inflicted. So you know,

(01:26:44):
we've been dealing with the heat this week. I've been
a little under the weather and this heat hadn't helped.
And uh but uh, you know we'll be ready to
play Friday. You know, go up there and see Coach Horn.
And you know those officials like Coach Horn, by the
way we're going to.

Speaker 1 (01:26:59):
They always we gotta go.

Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
Coach.

Speaker 1 (01:27:01):
Good to see you take an easy best of look
to you. Appreciate it.

Speaker 22 (01:27:04):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
Take a quick break, come back or Russell County dealing.
Griggs is in the house on the Coaches Show. That's right.
Go spin that wheel at Gory's Furniture Express, find you something.
Go spin that wheel and see how much more you
can take off already already low prices at Gory's Furniture
Spress Highway won sixty nine A oh like a most barbecue,
excellent food, No matter what you want vegetables to barbecue,

(01:27:28):
the chicken, the grilled cheese, kids meal everything, they got
it all and in between, and of course the orthopedic clinic.
Great folks at the orthopedic clinic dealing. Griggs is in
the house. He's a Russell County Warrior head football coach.
Big win last week over the Carroll Eagles. Congrats on
the wind coach talking about I didn't get the score,
was it, coach, I ain't pulled it? Yeah, you go

(01:27:49):
shut them out. Talk about the win and the goose
egg yep.

Speaker 21 (01:27:52):
So you know, first gooseg as I had football coach,
was we know that?

Speaker 6 (01:27:56):
Good for you.

Speaker 10 (01:27:57):
So, you know, defense played real hard, bend on break,
you know. Offense, I think in the first half we
were turned to opening kickoff for a touchdown, and I
think the entire first quarter we only had three offensive
plays and I think by the time at halftime we'd
only been on the.

Speaker 21 (01:28:11):
Field ten plays.

Speaker 10 (01:28:12):
We were up thirteen to nothing at halftime, and so
you know, we just kind of went there and challenged
him a.

Speaker 21 (01:28:16):
Little bit and ended up second half was great.

Speaker 10 (01:28:19):
You know, you know, we got a ninth grade running
back Chris Lucas, who really, really impressed me.

Speaker 21 (01:28:24):
Obviously, DJ are senior. I mean he's he's the exact
dude we.

Speaker 5 (01:28:27):
Thought we were.

Speaker 21 (01:28:28):
But you know, you also got a chance to see
the upcoming guy. Got really excited. Bryson Riggins.

Speaker 10 (01:28:33):
I think he went fourteen for twenty four for two
hundred ninety three yards. You know, Denver had one hundred
yard night. JB had a eighty three yards at receiving.
I think DJ had one hundred and sixty all purpose yards.
And then on the defensive side, Eldrick.

Speaker 21 (01:28:45):
Page, I mean, god, just up middle linebacker.

Speaker 10 (01:28:48):
I mean he just he really led that defense. You
got Cam Reese on the edge. You know, he had
nine and a half sacks last year. I think he
had two the other night. Isaiah Thomas really stood out.
Garrett Lucas at corner, made some some heck of some
plays on the perimeter.

Speaker 1 (01:29:02):
And so you're doing good, Cod Bro. I love it.

Speaker 21 (01:29:05):
You know Todd Davis, Now I'll tell you our safety,
Tod Davis. He's a junior this year.

Speaker 10 (01:29:09):
He literally costs two fumbles, but two guys, I mean
they took him out the game. And so you know,
being at Russell County, just you know, I think what
I was more excited about is you know, we've been
kind of scoring points. What I saw was a defense
that was physical and moved to the ball well and
was gap sound, and so you know, we're just gonna
hope we can continue it for another week.

Speaker 1 (01:29:24):
You you rolled off some kids. I love that dealing Griggs.
We're talking Russell County. You follow another home game. This
is a big game. You follow. Had a good team
last year night it didn't he lose last week? Maybe Washington, yes,
but in a good game, right yeah, right, he's good
though we miss him tonight, but go ahead.

Speaker 10 (01:29:38):
Yeah, no, No, you know that receiver they have over there,
At one point they had two guys on him and
literally he was just standing there and just took a
ball out of the air. I mean I think you
followed fumbled the ball and they recovered it. So I
mean their defense only allowed I think twelve points last week.

Speaker 5 (01:29:51):
I mean, it's a.

Speaker 21 (01:29:52):
Typical you follow defense.

Speaker 10 (01:29:53):
Yeah, and then I think, you know, I don't I
don't really you know, know what happened with them offensively,
but you know, I mean it's just a typical you
follow team.

Speaker 7 (01:30:00):
You know, we don't you know, they beat Jackson last
year who just lost.

Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
Around six points that year, did you Oh yeah, they
went to the SEMIS go ahead, coach.

Speaker 21 (01:30:08):
Yeah, we're not.

Speaker 10 (01:30:08):
We're not taking anything going on with BTW and you
follow lightly and so you know, I mean today, I actually, uh,
when those guys are my seniors, refreshmen, you follow beat
us forty one to seven. So I put a you
follow logo on our jumbo tron today and put the
score of forty one to seven on there and got
on the mic at the beginning of practice and kind
of reminded all of those seniors. And we had a

(01:30:29):
great practice. So you know, I mean my thing is,
we just want to go in there and give them
four quarters. You know, I think if we played well,
we got a chance.

Speaker 1 (01:30:36):
Well, I'm looking here, they lost BTW. Like you said, uh,
forty one seven was the final thirty eight and five
all time, So you got to upheel battle. Have you
been pleased how your team's responded this week out in
this heat coming back? I know, it's a lot better
when you win than when you lose.

Speaker 10 (01:30:49):
Absolutely, you know, Monday, you know, I thought was an
okay day. I got a little aggravated. I think I
ran them for quite a while there towards any you know,
efforts just a big thing for me sometimes.

Speaker 21 (01:30:59):
But Tuesday they came back.

Speaker 10 (01:31:00):
I mean, it had to be one of the best
Tuesday practices I've had at Russell County.

Speaker 5 (01:31:02):
And then today it was just a good day, so
you know.

Speaker 10 (01:31:05):
But I mean, at the same time, we're still trying
to teach them how to win, so you know, sometimes
you kind of need that re wakening.

Speaker 5 (01:31:11):
You know.

Speaker 10 (01:31:11):
I don't want anybody showing up on Monday saying I
don't care if we beat you. Following Friday, I'm gonna
show up like we're O and oh don't care.

Speaker 3 (01:31:17):
Nothing about it.

Speaker 1 (01:31:18):
You know, We're on to the next So you.

Speaker 10 (01:31:20):
Know, big thing right now is we just really turned
up the intensity at practice, you know, and that's our
big thing.

Speaker 21 (01:31:25):
We want practice to be harder than the game.

Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
And so you know, I mean, I think yesterday.

Speaker 10 (01:31:29):
At Tuesday, the O line had fifty nine reps in
an hour and thirty five minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:31:32):
Wow, So what's tomorrow?

Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
What's tomorrow's practice?

Speaker 21 (01:31:35):
Tomorrows just play the game in the morning. That's the
easy one. Yesterday, unless they make me mad and they
don't play the game right then we'll just run some more.
So maybe they're listening right now, they'll put that in
the group.

Speaker 1 (01:31:46):
Run them coach. You know you don't play the more
you play Friday, right we play? Yeah, yeah, I thought,
all right, hey home second week, Nome. I know you
need a big crowd right before we go.

Speaker 21 (01:31:53):
We need a great crad.

Speaker 1 (01:31:53):
We had a great cowd last week.

Speaker 21 (01:31:55):
I'm just gonna ask you now much. The whole home
stands were full, completely.

Speaker 1 (01:31:58):
Full, and they got to win. That's even got a dub.
I bet you Paul travels pretty good. I bet they do.

Speaker 3 (01:32:04):
Hope they do.

Speaker 1 (01:32:04):
He wants that gate. He's gonna get his crowd. He
wants that big gate. Coach Greed. Good to see, but
to see y'all guests on the wind and good luck.

Speaker 3 (01:32:11):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:32:11):
We're gonna take you to thirty break Bore Guard the Hornets,
and then we got the notice suggle to end the show.
Two more teams when we'll be back at most. Thank you, Dylan,
and we're back High School Coaches show continues. We're gonna
bring in the head coach of the board Hornets coach
about said Jason Leek, Head coaches Justin Jones. Good good,

(01:32:33):
good evening.

Speaker 32 (01:32:33):
Coach, good evening, guys, And this is the High School
Coaches Show, brought to you by the Orthopedic Clinic. We're
here at Moe's Original Barbecue. iHeartRadio for Yes, Fox Sports
a game, and yes the Kicker wkk R ninety seven seven,
and yes on Highway one sixty nine.

Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
That's who's a sponsor as a sponsor the Hornets. That's
exactly right, Coach good Man. Coach Wallson predicted the homecoming
queen a few years ago. He's my guys, good to
see coach. Mister you all right, it's muggy out here now,
it is muggy. Let's talk about the Horns. Tough game.
Coach almost won that game. You lost a tough one.

(01:33:11):
Let's just break it down. It was fourteen nineteen. You
lost by five. Oh man, I mean, I don't like
Nigga's always talking about that real quick. Now, very very
very proud of the way.

Speaker 32 (01:33:21):
I mean, our kids competed against a you know, a
quality six A opponent. So we're very proud of the
just man. Just in a in a game like that
when you've got opportunities. You know, they scored with right
around two minutes going the game to take the lead,
So just needed the first down here there, another stop
here there, So uh, you know, proud of.

Speaker 21 (01:33:40):
The effort I thought.

Speaker 32 (01:33:41):
I thought our kids played hard, didn't shy away from
a bigger school in that type of environment. So it's
definitely something we can build on, even even though we
came up a little short.

Speaker 1 (01:33:51):
So all right, you were old too all time versus Anniston.
You play them this week. Okay, you lost in O
five you were out here, but that was the last
time they played. So this is kind of chart uncharted
waters for this group.

Speaker 16 (01:34:05):
It is.

Speaker 1 (01:34:06):
I don't know what just happened, but we've got a
lot of noise too coming. Yeah, bear with its when
we whether the storm here, but literally a storm. Talk
a little bit about playing Andison on.

Speaker 32 (01:34:15):
The road, coach, but I think it's a great trip
to prepare you for like a playoff type deal.

Speaker 33 (01:34:22):
It's about two and a half about two two and
a half hour trip, right, and so I think that's
a big pausitive for us. Just to get something like
that during the season would be amazing. So they're gonna
be a great place to play.

Speaker 32 (01:34:34):
They've got a great new I mean a new stadium,
new field, new turf, that kind of stuff. So it'll
be their first game.

Speaker 1 (01:34:39):
And it's a hundred yards long too, isn't it.

Speaker 6 (01:34:41):
It is one hundred yards long, fifty.

Speaker 9 (01:34:43):
Three and the third wide.

Speaker 1 (01:34:45):
Yeah, so should be should be? Yes, we're excited about
what do you need to do? We need to be
better at.

Speaker 32 (01:34:54):
Moving the chain, baby, just keeping When we scored last week,
it's like we scored like really fat, like it was
a deep.

Speaker 1 (01:35:01):
Ball boom score.

Speaker 6 (01:35:03):
The next time.

Speaker 32 (01:35:06):
Got the ball, you know, and scored in like four plays.
So just some sustainable drives.

Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
Move the chains, keep the clock running, and you know.

Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
Played the same type of defense we played.

Speaker 3 (01:35:16):
Last week, so I mean offensive plays to go around.
Last week we.

Speaker 34 (01:35:19):
Ran forty I'd say forty five, which is not near
enough what we usually try to get to. But like
we got off to a really slow start, I mean
like really slow.

Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
What's what?

Speaker 3 (01:35:29):
What were you looking for?

Speaker 34 (01:35:29):
Broke anywhere from sixty five to seventy is a pretty
good night for us, you know. So if we get
that that many snaps, we've done just what coach Johnes said.
We've moved to change, We sustained some drives.

Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
We've been good on third down, you know, so.

Speaker 34 (01:35:43):
Those things that we're looking for, sou But I mean,
I was proud of our kids.

Speaker 1 (01:35:47):
You know.

Speaker 34 (01:35:47):
We Uh we had a bad turnover that ended up
in the scoop of score, which calls with Tom could
take the lead, we'd come right back and that's the
four or five play drive to retake the lead. So
like our kids didn't really it didn't. They just got
right back there and started playing. We just have to
be better on every play. First little bit of you

(01:36:08):
showed up, especially in the first half. Uh, and hey,
hats off to with Tomka. They were doing some things
that we're giving us some issues and uh and so
but once we were able to adjust to that a
little bit, we were able to make some plays.

Speaker 9 (01:36:19):
But uh, you know, at the end of the day,
on offense, you.

Speaker 34 (01:36:21):
Got to build of block folks and uh so, uh,
we get we did a better job in the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:36:26):
We just came up a little short.

Speaker 3 (01:36:27):
So do you feel good about the guys that I mean,
because we were talking last week. You got one guy
that started, yeah, started in rosy games.

Speaker 34 (01:36:36):
Yeah, we had we had ten guys play more snaps
on a varsity game than they ever have in their life,
which really is one like so yeah, yes, so uh yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:36:47):
I'm proud of those guys.

Speaker 7 (01:36:48):
They had to adjust on the.

Speaker 17 (01:36:49):
Fly and they were able to do that.

Speaker 6 (01:36:51):
Just got to do a little bit better job and
type some things up.

Speaker 34 (01:36:53):
You know, everybody says some game one for game two
is where you're gonna make your biggest improvement. So that's
what we're looking for this week against an Ye gotta.

Speaker 1 (01:37:01):
Go on the road. I know you need a big crowd,
don't you, Coach Jones?

Speaker 32 (01:37:03):
Oh, man, it's gonna be a big crowd. I mean
its Aniston's first home game. Like I said in that
new stadium, our bunch of our bunch of supporters. Man,
I think last week we had just as many folks
on our side as we talking did. So that speaks
a lot for our community and parents and supporters that
come and support our kids.

Speaker 1 (01:37:21):
So I'm excited about that. We'll hear from Coach Jones
tomorrow on the March eighth. What is it, eight thirty
eight twenty five?

Speaker 21 (01:37:27):
Yes, sir?

Speaker 1 (01:37:28):
All right, y'all have a good week. Please say travels
quick gank for those and Noah Suger will wrap up
our coaching show when we get back.

Speaker 8 (01:37:34):
Whether you're a senior golfer, welcome back to the High
School Coaching Show.

Speaker 3 (01:37:38):
It's Jeff sas dean Mark Mitchell. We're coming to you
like oh In Early, I'm sorry, Jason Early. We're coming
to you live from most original Barbecue sponsial by with
Pete Clinton, Glory's Furnish Express, and of.

Speaker 7 (01:37:51):
Course from MoES.

Speaker 3 (01:37:51):
We've got to coach Williams a J. Williams.

Speaker 1 (01:37:54):
Yes, yes, sir, coach you all ready to play some football?

Speaker 3 (01:37:58):
Yes, can't talk about a game last week. We're gonna
have to talk about this one.

Speaker 35 (01:38:01):
Yes sir, Yes, sir. We got Barbara County this week.
Our guys pretty much had a two week break to
get them prepared, to get them ready to go.

Speaker 5 (01:38:12):
I think we're ready to go.

Speaker 35 (01:38:14):
We've had a lot of time to kind of work
on ourselves and get ourselves ready for this game. So
they're excited. They've got enough of you on each other,
so they're ready to go against another team. So we're
excited about it.

Speaker 3 (01:38:26):
Barbara County, have they played a game? Nah?

Speaker 5 (01:38:29):
This has been the first their first one too.

Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
Yes sir, we're just looking at last year. Yes, sir,
we gotta do the handle these.

Speaker 5 (01:38:35):
Guys much of the same.

Speaker 35 (01:38:38):
Stay away from penalties, stay away from turnovers, come with
the aggression we need to have on both sides of
the ball. I think it's gonna start with that front
line as always. And Uh, like I said, I think
they're ready to go.

Speaker 1 (01:38:53):
I know that's a unique feeling, probably unique for you.
How do you feel, Coach? I know your kids are ready.
This for your first time be in control on the sideline.
Is it different for you a little bit?

Speaker 35 (01:39:03):
But like I said, I got some good staff, my
brotherhood here. This got Like I said, I got big
bro here, Coach Green with me. So as long as
we I got my brothers, I think I'm good.

Speaker 10 (01:39:16):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (01:39:17):
If your kids been ready to play, we talked about everybody.
This is me first. Some people's already got to jump
on y'all.

Speaker 5 (01:39:21):
Y'all had to wait.

Speaker 1 (01:39:22):
I know they got to be eager, Coach, you want
to bring it.

Speaker 3 (01:39:25):
Up, Yes, sir, they're they're eager to get out there and.

Speaker 17 (01:39:29):
Put what we have been putting together defensively.

Speaker 3 (01:39:34):
Uh, we should be sound.

Speaker 1 (01:39:37):
We're going to get after a little.

Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
And try to take care of being as soon as possible.

Speaker 1 (01:39:42):
All right, between the two of y'all. I know Jeff
May asked it.

Speaker 21 (01:39:45):
I was away.

Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
How many got both ways?

Speaker 6 (01:39:46):
With this heat?

Speaker 5 (01:39:47):
I worry about that?

Speaker 1 (01:39:48):
Yeah, how many y'all got playing both it'll play both ways?

Speaker 3 (01:39:51):
Oh wow, everybody?

Speaker 21 (01:39:55):
Everybody?

Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
Pretty much everybody's going both ways? If you got it,
if you got how much? How many of you got
that you can put in? Do you have anybody over
there much bench at all? Coach that you can get
some pt right now? The official roster, I think we
have listed at twenty five. That's what you told me.

Speaker 5 (01:40:13):
So out of that, I think most of that twenty
five gonna see the field.

Speaker 3 (01:40:18):
Good.

Speaker 1 (01:40:18):
So what's the youngest you will play?

Speaker 21 (01:40:21):
Eighth grade?

Speaker 5 (01:40:21):
Eighth grade?

Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
Eighth grade?

Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
How many of those have you got, to coach?

Speaker 1 (01:40:26):
It's it's quite a few of you know what, y'all
not the only ones. We've seen a bunch of Paty Jiff.
Oh you know what, let me tell you what the
theme of the of the year is.

Speaker 3 (01:40:36):
But you know, I watched the nighth grader win the
MVP in the seventh eighth state championship right up here
with Thompson.

Speaker 1 (01:40:41):
We will never forget that guy.

Speaker 3 (01:40:43):
I'm eighth grade taking.

Speaker 1 (01:40:45):
Place exactly play quarterback, and the chance that I don't
ever say anything else about the eighth grade. Je reminds
me all the time. He won a championship and.

Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
We have an eighth grader starting yep.

Speaker 16 (01:40:55):
