the second week of a football dMark Mitchell, Jeff Sasser Moose is in
the house, Jason's engineer, andwe're all set to go. Jason don't
have a microphone or I would askhim a question. But Jason's engineer and

(00:43):
the Coaches Show engineered the Scoreboard Showand Valley Football Friday night and did a
great job. But we're here atMose. We'll be here till eight o'clock
bring you the High School Coaches Show. We should have about fourteen to seventeen
coaches here tonight. We'll be talkingthem up. Jeff Sassers will me tonight's
Southern Prep it comes into They're gonnabe our first guests Southern PREPP had a
tough week last week. They lost. I hadn't got the right score.

(01:04):
But coach Bill goes noon and joined, this guy's good to see y'all here
at most tonight. Thank you forhaving I're gonna be here. Yeah,
tell us a little bit about lastweek, and then we moved forward.
All right, Well, last weekwe felt like we put together a great
defensive plan to stop to stop Springwoodsnumber four and basically, you know,

(01:27):
you put it out there, butthat doesn't mean the kids are gonna do
it exactly the way you say it, and they let him get loose too
often. And yeah, then wefumbled a kick off, didn't feel to
kick off, and threw a picksix, and before you know it,
it's ugly. But then we cameout second half and you know, actually

(01:48):
did what you're supposed to do secondhalf. Number four? What is he
is? See the quarterback or runningback? He is running back? And
basically I just put a you know, a linebacker spy on him and said,
you go where he goes. He'sgonna take you to the ball.
He's either carrying it or what didhe you brought up? Number four?
What was the significant about number four. Well, he said, did he
planned they needed to stop number four? I didn't know what position he plus?
Well, I think he had.I think he only ended up with

(02:08):
only like nine No, no,no, no. But like I said,
on our side, we did mostlywhat we were supposed to do.
You know. Kevin Mason or quarterbackhe had. Uh, I'm gonna let
you talk about that real quick. But the final was fifty four twenty seven,
Yes, four twenty seven. Quarterbackhe had. I think he finished

(02:29):
with three touchdowns three for two sixtyI think what it was, and also
had two picks. Dang. Andthen we had a receiver who had well
you finished with Kevin. Kevin alsohad a one hundred and twenty seven yards
rushing yea and returned to punt touchdownabout seventy yards for a touchdown. And
we had a receiver Caleb cost fivefifty seven total yards right there. He

(02:52):
Uh, he played a heck ofa game other than a couple of mistakes
that would have loved to have headback. He did that pick six in
the gold line. It's that backacross his body and guy didn't see it
and took it back to the house. And uh, one later on in
the game, he threw under underthree receivers open, but our receiver called

(03:12):
Cole, he had what it wassixtes eleven catches, one hundred and ninety
two yards, three touchdowns. Nowwhat was what was Kevin's last name?
Mason? Makes Kevin Mason, andhe's a what he's a junior, junior?
Okay, and then Cole is ajunior. All right, They're they're
brothers. Oh, okay, brothers. They're non bred blood understand. All

(03:36):
right. So this evangel Christian rightthis week? Alright, this week is
evangel lightning out of Alabaster. Right, I knew that. But it's not
a call of Christian, well itis, but evangel Christian Montgomery. I
mean, they're both Evangels. Play. The Alabaster bunch is the one that's
nationally right, right, normally.Yeah, they've they've won five straight Division

(03:58):
one national championship, and we weplay because it's fun. Yeah, well,
you schedule to get seaser, Imean yeah, I mean there's no
reason to go. Oh yeah, but again, you know, I gave
gave the players, you know,we went over on board, over you
know, on film, gave hima sheet yesterday as to look, it's
simple. As long as you guysfollow the rules, it stops every play
they do. And that's our basicdefense. And I said, but the

(04:21):
problem is they get three to fourhours practice a day. We get three
to four hours practice a week.So that this week now the two Evangels
are they are They both ai SAeight man football teams. No evangel The
evangel Lions out of Montgomery are AISAevangel Christian Lightning out of Alabaster are in

(04:44):
the Home School League, the ACSC, and there is talk about them moving
to eleven man football in the aiSA, but that's nothing's nothing set in
stone yet. Well, you knowthese have a by state had Georgiana,
Alabama, the the yes, sheit was. It was a lot of
them. I can't remember it.The headn't what do you gotta do to

(05:08):
win this game? Because I wasjust they scored a lot of points.
Coach, So he did, quarterbacksgonna have to go wild again? Yeah,
yeah, quarterbacks gotta go wild.We we've got a new receiver that
uh transferred in from Russell County andyou know he's he's had to sit out
a couple of weeks for the transferrule, and he's he's ildiboy to go
Friday night, so you know he'she's got to show up. So you

(05:30):
set him out last week. Yes, okay, all right, so you
play on the road or at home? Coach, on the road. On
the road, what's the transfer road? Coach? Yeah, I was just
gonna ask, well, basically, you know when when somebody transfers in rather
than starting in the beginning of theschool year, school already started for both
schools, and then he transferred intous, he's got to sit out two

(05:50):
weeks. Okay, all right, okay, all right, coach, anything
else you want to mention anybody elsebefore we go. We got a few
seconds, all right, Southern preyup. Always good to have y'all here.
Thank y'all being here. Coach. We're gonna let you get on here
next week. All right, youwere here first. All right. We're

gonna talk with Jason Allen Chambers Academyand were welcome you back to mos Marbeq
by site of the High School CoachesShow presented to you by the Orthopedic Clinic
on Fox Sports. The ninety sevenpoint seven kicker of fim de Mark Jeff

(06:33):
Jason's with us and Van out here, and we appreciate Ricky Carmick and his
folks here at Moles. My grillcheese. Good, Jeff, I know
you and your family had a goodeat. Bath had a grill cheese.
There you go. You can't gowrong there. And we're gonna all right,
and we're gonna talk a little ChambersAcademy football. We coach Collie and
Jason Allen. Gentlemen. Good tosee y'all here at most tonight. Good,

(06:54):
good to be here. This isCross. Collie Cross played uh played
for me several years ago on thestate championship team, All State defensive end.
And he wants to get into coachingand teaching and all right, going
to school do that. And Isaid, hey, you welcome back home.
He knows our system and he's donea phenomenal job where our kids bringing
some energy that this old head coachdon't quite have as much of anymore.

(07:14):
Yeah, understand that coach in yournineteenth season. Uh, you guys are
ranked six in the poll. Notthat it matters, but just a little
talk went in one most importantly fortyeight six last week off Heritage Georgia.
Talk a little bit about that game, coach rebounding off a tough loss over
here at Auburn against Lee Scott afew weeks ago. Yeah, well what
game. You could have won it? Well, you know, but but

(07:35):
give correct to Lee Scott. Theywon the game. They didn't make mistakes
and we did so Buster Coach Danieldid a great job. You know,
that's always a big game at thebeginning of the year for both schools.
And uh, it was a goodcrowd. Yeah, a lot of people
too. Yeah, they had alot of people. Yeah it was uh,
you know, well, kids playedhard. We just made two many

(07:56):
mistakes. But this past Friday wecame back home and uh played Uh we
didn't know anything about Heritage christ orthe Heritage School out of Noona and Georgia,
but our kids came out and playedreally hard. We still had some
turnovers, were still fumbling the football, which we did not fumble the football
very much at all last year, and we worked hard on it. That

(08:16):
is my number. A lot ofpeople say, what's your number one objective
in coaching offensive football? It's ballsecurity. If you don't hold on to
the football, does nothing else matters. So we got to improve that because
that that right there will loses ballgames, I found out over my career
more than anything else. So wehad a great crowd. It was one

(08:37):
of the hottest Friday nights I canremember. Man, it was tough,
but we did not. We justkept in the same uh and uh.
We had a huge crowd at homeand our kids played well. We ran
the ball well, and we endedup throwing for over two hundred yards in
the game, which was good.Karen Henry had it kind of had a
coming out party for us. Hadeight catches, four hundred ninety yards and

(08:58):
four touch downs. I think he'sup for players the week to hit down
here. Uh this week, UhKarine as a senior transferred. It came
to us from Handley High School therein Roanoak. I'm one yeah. And
then uh Luke Tarver had a greatgame running to football and and I tell
you what, I'm really proud.I'm really excited about our team is defensively,
Demark and Jeff I think that wegot a chance to be really good

(09:22):
defensively because we got kids that havegrown up in that system, so they
know how to align and they don'thave to think, and they play fast
and you know, a good partof the brand of defense. You got
to play fast. And our kidslike to hit. We're physical. So
we're excited about how how high ourceiling is defensively, and we're kind of
hanging our hat on that, especiallyearlier in the year. Well, I

(09:45):
understand that. And you didn't turnthe ball over the other night, did
you? Oh? Yeah, wehad three turnovers and first yep, sure
did yeh, yep, And wegotta fix that. You know, We've
we've run, we've talked about it, we've done fundamental drills. We just
it's got to be it's a discipinething. Really, where's it coming at?
Coaches? It the exchange or inthe runs? In the runs?
Okay, fighting for fighting for yards? Yeah, in the runs? Yeah,

(10:09):
So you know, you want kidsto to fight for every yard,
but sometimes you got to understand whenthe battle is over and when the yeah,
you know kind kind of football yougot Edgewood this week? Right,
that's correct? All right? Theybeat him forty nine fourteen. Last year,
you lead the series fifteen and sixall time. That doesn't matter,
Oh, because it's a new year. That's right. It's a raging game,

(10:31):
right Cross game twenty Uh back ourstate championship year, we played them
at their house like we are playingthis year, and uh we actually lost
that game by I'm not sure twopoints, by two points and you know
you know you lost. That's important. Yeah, Cross was a senior on
that team. I played him twicethat year. Did you played twice?

(10:52):
I played him again in the semisand one pretty good. Yeah, yeah,
I know. I remember we wasn'tready to play them my junior year.
And when we played them back inthe second round at that same year,
we beat them by I want tosay thirty forty something. So it's
very important for our kids to,you know, remember any anything's possible.
You know, you gotta stay focusedeven if team, even if a team

(11:13):
you know doesn't it's not having agood best year. You know, take
them seriously. It doesn't matter ifthey're gonna play good again. You're able
to tell the kids that, aren'tyou, Yes, sir, I'm sure
Coach Allen appreciate that because that's realtough right there. Jack coach Jayson lived
team and they lost. Absolutely.I tell you it's a good message.
Go ahead. Absolutely. It meansa lot too when you got kids come
back through your programs. I'm gonnabe a part of It means a lot

(11:35):
to me, he as a coach. The first one is I've seen you
have out here either. Uh No, I've got a lot of coach on
my stuff to play for me twentyyears ago. Yeah. So, uh,
it's personal for them. It's personalfor them, and I think it's
personal for you too, how aboutthat? Yeah? Yeah, And I
big on loyalty. Dam you arecoaches really and I said, I think
it's personal for you too. Yeah, so I know you. Yep.

(11:56):
So we're gonna go down there. It's a tough place to play. Coach
Chad Michael's a good coach. Interestingtitbit an interesting stat you may not know.
Did you know that Edgewood Academy isthe only school in the Montgomery metro
area that has two players playing inthe NFL? Right now? I did
not, Yep, Prince Tega wantto go Hogo that played left tackle for
Auburn University. They had a quarterbackthat that came down and played for Bobby

(12:18):
Carr from Canada. I do rememberthat he played Ohio for Frank Solich and
I think he is a backup forthe Jasah. I did not know he
you know, I prose to talkabout that young man. Yep, that's
a great store at stat right there. Coach, Yeah, well hey that
for us time school. I wasat the coach car, I don't care
what school it is, said,we don't have Okay, you said,

(12:39):
look at I mean, look atall those schools and you ain't got nobody
from Canada on your team. Doyou go no, no, no,
if you had we used said theylistened to us on the way that this
is Joseph when they drive because theywas coming from was going coming through going
to Edgewood that Jeff, you gonnaget kick talks right. The Chambers Academy

(13:03):
rebels coach Oeng's great to see youfor those that. No, no,
he was he was feeling rough lastweek because I talked to him. I
was worried about him. But andyou didn't sound real good on the radio
earlier. You don't look good, but you look better. How about that?
You ugly but no, you looklike to feel good goods. I'm
glad you bet, thank you,DeMarco remains a lot coming from you.
Yes, their coach calls, goodto see you. Chambers Academy, the

(13:24):
Rebels, they're on the road. We're gonna come back to Moses High School
Coaches Show. We're gonna talk LynettePanther Football on ninety seven point seven and
Fox Sports The Game and Welcome backto mos Barbecue on Fox Sports nineteen thirteen
ten and the kicker for the OrthopedicClinton High School Coaches Show at Moe's on
the Veranda. And let me tellyou something, folks, it's about twenty

(13:45):
degrees cooler tonight. I ain't gonnaI ain't telling no story. It's twenty
degrees cooler. Demark, Jeff,Jason and band all in the house.
Coach mcdonalde Junior is in the house. We got a bunch of'em here,
Levin Schools already getting lined up eating. We've already aten our little dough
or whatever we had and taking careof it. We've talked with Southern Prep
and Chambers and now we're gonna talkwith coach McDonald. Coach Kitchens from the

(14:05):
net gentleman. Good evening. Ineed to know the menu autem Coach McDonald.
First, I had a chicken wings. Chicken wings, chicken wings.
I need to write that down.So we had a chicken anyway. All
right, So you guys had ahad you a No. Y'all had a
tough game against No. Y'all gotthe done. Yeah and scratch that.
Yeah, I got to get myfocus here in back. I had it

(14:26):
written Coach Jason over here, gotit all set, takeover st Yeah.
You know, we'll talk about thatgame briefly. Then we need to move
on to the big rivalry game comingup. Also, we got a rivalry
know the Suckle last week. Yeah, yeah, good good win would get
it going. We had a coupleof kids out, you know, important
players. We had a lot ofyoung guys, which was awesome. Awesome

(14:48):
to see it, especially offensively.I know Coach Kitchen is talking about the
defense, but we had a lookingacross the line. We were saw more
sophomore freshman freshman freshman, so andit was great for us to get that
under our belt. Our two olderguys were the ones that were out,
and uh, those young guys steppeddown and played well with rest for close
to three hundred yards and through fora really good number. Impressive for us,

(15:11):
and uh, you know, justa good flow overall. And I
just like the way our pace wasand it was really good. It really
good. Night was it was thisthe game that both teams scored as quick
as you could possibly score. Yeah, the touchdown kick off man, it
was in charge of specialty. Hewas happy and said, I think the

(15:33):
first was The first was on coach. We got him a hard time all
week about that. Was that theyscored. Baby, they scooped all the
way for the ball, and uh, that's wouldn't wrap up. That's all
right, you know that's what coach. You gotta get with it. Man.
You can't be doing stuff like that. Said that six was on him.
Yeah, defense gave up. Youhave to shut out man, And

(15:54):
I was gonna say, yeah theydid, Yeah they did, all right,
coach. So you mentioned a lotof young folks playing. How many
players did you have out you weretalking about he had him out? It
was about five okay, I meanokay. On the on the D line,
we had three three guys that weremissing. And they also play offense
as well. So well, thereyou go. All right, So this
week let's talk about Valley. Everybodyknows about Valley and Lynette. I mean,

(16:17):
come on, if you if youlive in these parts, especially if
you got a twelve on your tag, that's twelve tag rivalry right here,
baby, you know about uh Lynetteand Valley. I like coach kids and
stars. Yeah, coach talk tous about it. It's very like I
said, deep River goes back toI guess the beginning. Well, it's
kind of weird because like me andCoach McDonald, his uh dad went to
school. They're played their family andmy hope my dad as well, granddaddy

(16:37):
cousins from the nineteen forties to thefifties to own up. There's always been
somebody. So I grew up alwayshearing Latt Vallenette Valley no matter how the
size of the school never matter. And when I coached there years ago,
like I said, it was sixa versus two ways, sometimes five a
versus one day. We've always beenthe underdog looked upon no matter who we
had. But I think it wouldcome out and just play fast, physical
like we normally do the Lynette way. I think we'll have a good chance

(17:00):
to be in the game in thequarter thirty two fifty seven all time.
It was nineteen nothing Valley one lastyear. It's a big difference in size.
How do y'all handle that? I'lltell you, I think I think
I haven't heard y'all mention really well. I mean, I mean, I'm
gonna go ahead say it. Imean, we're we're a lot like a
big school. You know, I'vebeen in a couple in coach kitchens as
well. I'd say, you know, cross office line, we're two platoon.

(17:22):
You know, I got my guys, they got their guys, and
h you know, i'd say that'sa huge advantage for us, you know,
and you know, I just thinkoverall, we're not playing them as
many guys both ways that you wouldthink at a two a school. I
would say probably four total maybe.Like I said, it also depends on

(17:42):
certain situations as well, you'll onlyhave four total. That's maybe, it's
maybe, but it's it's about four. It's try keeping fresh this time of
year when it's so high. Ofcourse, it's it's gonna be cooler than
it was your last Uh. Doyou think it makes a difference with the
depths that they have versus your depths, and I definitely say that it's probably

(18:07):
a factor, but our kids don'tlook at it that way, you know,
they say it as a we're inReally we're in pretty good shape.
You know, we could always bebetter, but you know we're in pretty
good shape. And uh, youknow, our kids work hard. They
are prepared for that moment. We'veplayed some really good teams. No,
I mean, I'll tell you rightnow that cat last year in the first
round the playoffs was probably the bestrunning back in the state. You know,
I go out and say it fromBB Comber and our kids are saying,

(18:30):
good looking kid, dude, youknow. And they played a lot
of ball, you know, onanother young their sophomores and freshmans and juniors,
but they played a ton of football. Like Coach Kitchens can probably tell
you more about the defense there.I also want to say they have more,
if not the same guys we have, maybe more also played in bothays
as well. That's what the thingyou're not gonna I was gonna say,
he did so it's kind of weirdfor them to be bigger, but hey,

(18:53):
they do it. We do it, and like I said, we
had them last week really well. The cramping situations, didn't have really no
situations. Quick before we go,what'd y'all see in them? Real quick?
Rapping about that said, you know, real in Valley and it's the
big upfront, big upfront, realaggressive. You know, got the couple
of kids are going you know tocollege, dam and Harp, Dam of
Harper and got a lot of goodact They got a lot of really good

(19:15):
athletes. You know, they're bigand oh it's just typical Valley team.
All right, Lynette, going toValley. It'll be a battle of the
twelves up there. It's gonna beat Ram Stadium and that game will be
on one hundred point nine The Boyour sister station, Friday night kickoff at
eight eastern seventh Center. You listento the High School Coaches Show from Mose
Barbecue. Isn't about the orthopedic clinant, the bull of bobcast bugle Land.
We come back almost back now we'reback. Thank you, Jason, Welcome

(19:40):
back to Mose Barbecue. High SchoolCoaches Show on The Kicker and Fox Sports
nineteen thirteen ten. The game dMark Mitchell, Jeff Recessor Jason Lee was
fan I believe has left the building. Well, you gotta getta get gotta
get him up, Jason. Wekeep keeping him quiet. All right.
We have had rolling right along hereon the Coaches Show. Lynette just finished

(20:00):
up the be the Bobcats. Gentlemancoach coursing coach Matthew, I mean,
coach Johnson. How you guys doing? I wrote, you're good good here?
All right, y'all do me afirst course. And he's a talk
here. He doesn't get to talka lot. Knock him out with a
question. So I need to orderwhat we ordered, and I'm getting their
body wings wings. Okay, sowe're three wings so far. Banana pudding
though he did made fun of me. Why I don't don't't even wanted to

(20:23):
buy it. Need the game,coach, I don't, No, I
just I judge people too much. When the banana food, I don't know.
It's only much wrong with it.I don't know. We're wasting air
time. Fruit but fruit and dessert. I didn't make anything. I understand,
Okay, I make any sense? All right? Well, well your
team did last week because you hada good win. Congratulations again, thank
you we did? Yeah? Wasthat final? I had it right here?

(20:44):
Uh, it was a thirty five. There you go, there you
go. Yep, I don't careif it was thirty five thirty four,
but you won the game. That'sthirty five twelve. Ye, yep,
we did. It was a greatteam win. I mean it's a long
long bus. Uh, extremely warmand uh, you know, but we
we got out there and throughout theweek we had some guys missing. We

(21:07):
missed about seventeen eighteen kids on Mondayand Tuesday. We got them back,
majority of them back and uh,you missed, I means they were We
had seventeen missing on Monday. Werethey missing? See see oh yeah,
so yeah, but we got himback. Miss It's crazy, but what
we're going. We got it.Now we're good to go. And uh
but we we had a great game. Uh you know, they they scored

(21:32):
one late on us, so coachCoursing did a great job, you know,
gett our defense going and uh,I mean we just were we were
very physical with them and they're youknow defensively, we were flying around to
the ball. I mean every everyclip we watched on film, there were
eight nine guys to the ball.So uh just played a great game.
It really did. Starters. Youhave come back from last year's team.
Coach, Well, I'll tell youwhat we had. We ended up we

(21:52):
had two seniors last year, soyou know, we got a couple of
guys who came in. Thank you. Yeah, so we got we had
about seven or eight come back oneach side. We're talking because I'm football.
Yeah, but last year Abbyville, they yeah, they beat y'all like
they'll beat this year. That's right, And I mean we just we got
we got some good senior leadership. The biggest thing though, is our weight

(22:15):
room. We have a weight programand ever since really last summer. You
know, it just takes time, but our guys look like football players.
They really do. They play likeit. Their physical, they like contact,
and I meant it shows. CoachCourson Polka Friday night, Yeah,
tell me about them. They wantto run at us. I mean it.
I think we watched filming with themwill Fit. They throw the ball

(22:37):
five times, so they want torun at us. They want to get
outside. So that's what we've beenworking on this week is making sure we
set the edge force them back inside. I mean, we know what they
want to do. They want torun football. They got athletes and they
want to use that speed. So, I mean, I think what we
saw from Abbeville is kind of whatlooks wants to do. Abe. We
wanted to get outside as well.So you know, we just get pressure

(22:59):
on that quarterback and we can forcehim in, to force him into throwing
football. I feel like, youknow, we're doing our job. Stop
at run. So you think theyhave more athletes than Abbyville. Ah,
Abbeville had some math, I know. I'm just they got saying. You
know, they got pain, soyeah, he sticks out. They got
a strong kid and another one too. I don't have Biggie as a good

(23:21):
player. Helped me out. I'msorry. They got number eleven. He
can block too, he's pretty goodtight end. I mean they got a
couple of running backs. They gotthree or four they want to run.
You know, they got something runoutside, something the run twenty tackles.
So yeah, they got athletes.I don't know. Abbyville had athletes too.
After the Abbeville's quarterback he could moveso but Loto Pocus can too,
and he throws football. He throughit last year, so you know,

(23:41):
I defense ready, I believe.So I think so we we had a
we we typed things up today thatyou know, maybe we're missing yesterday Monday,
so I feel like I feel likewe'll be in a good spot offensively,
coach, which you're thinking, Uhyeah, I mean they got you
know, pains. He's gonna bean issue. We gotta we gotta make
sure we got control over him.You know, we're gonna do what we

(24:02):
do. Uh, we got alittle sounds like both of you are you
know a couple of wrinkles. Youjust can't reinvent the wheel and with these
with these guys, if you ifyou're playing well, you know, don't
don't try to uh do too much. Keep it simple, but you know,
you gotta have answers for what theydo. They got. You gotta
have answers if they show you somethingthat they didn't show you on film.
And we prepared for that. Anduh, you know Damarro Informers our quarterback,
he's he's got some legs, soyou know he's got too. Yep,

(24:26):
he's gotta be he's gotta be adifference maker from this game. Do
you'll have a big play capability?Oh hundred, they do. You know
they do. Our skill guys,We got some guys that get difference Coach,
I want to make it so youknow, we got guys gonna make
plays, and they have guys thatnever graduate. It's always exactly you were

(24:47):
so right, Sash. Every yeargoing somebody and their wheel coach like,
y'all are you know this is thisis this is an interesting games. Glistens
over there. You tell that youI mean, they do a good job.
When he came in we were talkingabout the coach, I was like,
like, listen, Polker, thatjust didn't you know, let me
make sure you understand. I'm justused to him being at Auburn US.
Boy boy all right, boy, yeah yeah, all right. So timy

(25:08):
this coach you mentioned those have youbeen able to get the flowback with practice?
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, everybody's back. We're uh, you
know, we're you know, whetherkind of has been been back to us
the past couple of days to dayit was our first full day he's been
that bad. You're right, butwe we had it. We had a
good day to day. Towards thelatter part, we had it. We
had to bust them a little bit. They're a little they're walked around a
little too much a day, butwe got them. We got them,

(25:29):
you know, energized and ready togo. So uh, we ended up
on a good note. And andit's at home. I felt homes going
before I said that. Get yourtickets on go fan dot c and you
pay cash it together the land.Good to see coach, y'all appreciate.
That's good to see both. Y'allgot shot tonight. But I took care
of you. That's right there yougo. That's the beew of the podcasts.
They got poker Friday night. We'llhere from Coach free Cod Newton later

(25:51):
on. But Adam Hunter and theValley Ram's gonna come back and talk about
playing the net. We get thatother side of that story from the Coaches
Show at Moles, presented by theauthor did Clinic will continue right after this
thank you Back at Moles Barbecue,Bent creaking Alburn, j D walking by
as good to see j D inthe house. All right, we're gonna

(26:12):
Jeff's with us. Uh, Jason, we're here outside where we are,
it's about twenty degrees lower. CoachAdam Hunter and the Valley Rams join us.
Coach Hunter is always good to seeyou first. Like you've been down
the list, down the list.Today we must practice a little longer to
day did you practice learning, Yeah, we practiced a little bit long today.
All right, coach, you're comingoff a tough loss against a very
good Handley team. Handley's ranked inthe top ten. I don't know what

(26:34):
that matters, but you had agood game, but you lost twenty two
day. I'll let you talk aboutthat just real quick, and then we'll
go to the net game because that'smore important because that was last week.
You know, I thought we playeda good first half, you know,
despite some turnovers offensively, we playedgood defensively the first half. You know,
we just had too many turnovers firsthalf we didn't capitalize. We're driving

(26:56):
the ball, turn the ball overthem against a very very good team.
Now they're they're they're pretty sporty. They're going to go along ways in playoffs
and a lot of players coming backto they did up front up far.
They got a veteran group. There'sreally good last year and they're really good
this year. So, you know, we we didn't do a good job
seke at half. We we kindof got into the cramps on and started
cramping up a little bit with ourskill guys and kind of got blowed off

(27:19):
the football a little bit. Uh, defensively, so you know we didn't
respond after halftime, uh against thelittle adversity. So we really harped on
that this week. Talk about thisweek coach Lynette, this is a big
rival game in twelve tech country.Everybody was tending while ago. We just
heard from Lynette earlier. We talkedto their coaches. Fifty seven thirty two
and two is the all time lastyear one nineteen nothing have a size advantage

(27:41):
as far as classification, But talkabout playing Lynette, a very good athletic
team at your place in Valley. You know, I think one thing that
stands out, you know, defensively, they're fast, they get to the
football really well. They run tothe football, so you know, we've
got to sustained blocks. Offensively,we've we can't turn the ball over.
You know, it's gonna be oneof those games. It's gonna come down
to the fourth quarter. They they'regonna be really good. You know.

(28:04):
Coach chilp he's single, he's donea great job, you know in the
time he's been there, and andwe're gonna have our hands for our kids.
Know that. You know, wewe bassed around a little bit more
this this week in practice because itis rivalry week for us. But you
know, at the end of theday, we've got to take care of
ourselves. We've got to get betterin all three phases of the of the
game. And you know, youwant to see that improvement from week zero.

(28:27):
So well, I know you dothe games at home, that'll be
big for you. You should havea big crowd in valley. Talk talk
about they told us, the coachhas told us they don't play as many,
But y'all both play about the sameboth ways. Is that about right?
That's about right? We probably wewe probably play about you know,
we got four guys that don't comeoff the field almost you know, we'll

(28:49):
give him a break a little bitthere and here and there, but we've
got four guys that really are ourworkhorses this year. Uh. And it's
not been the way in the passwe're having to do it this year.
Uh, ups a little issue withus. So I don't think Depp plays
a factor in this game. Youknow, we we've got to play.
They're they're gonna be just as freshas we are. All right, heat

(29:10):
last week, did you guys handledokay? Coach? I mean, for
the most part, ain't. Youknow, you have the dreaded cramps and
it usually comes in the third quarterwhen you cramp up. And that's when
it did it. And it hitus in the third you know. I
what we was talking about as astaff. We just haven't had that in
the past, you know, wein four years for three the past three
years, I don't remember us havinga guy that cramped, you know,

(29:33):
and then we've got three cramping onFriday night. So you know, I
think it's one of those things thatour kids have got to do a little
bit better job hydrating there in theweek when they're not with us, and
we got to do, you know, a good job of taking care of
them, you know, since wegot a you know, a good bit
going both ways. Now it wasusually yep, yep, that's what it
was. Uh So you know,we they they realize it now and they're

(29:56):
gonna take better care of the bodies. Good tim me. As coaches,
which one's got you or them? How you rate each other speak? It's
important now, you know. II tell you they're fast. I think
they're really fast. Defensively, Ithink it's about even them speed wise.
I think they're they're pretty quick.They run well to the ball. That's
one thing I could say. Defensively, they're they're fast, they get to

(30:17):
the edge quick. You know,so I think I don't I don't think
anybody's got the advantage of speed.I think it's pretty even. Well,
if you had a good week sofar, I know it's it's been three
days, it's been good. Uh, it's been good. We beat them
rain every day, so that wasgood. Sething. One day we had
to you know about the last twentythirty minutes of practice, we had to
go inside. But you know, other than that, we we beat it
pretty good and we had a goodweek. It gets bounced back, and

(30:38):
you know, they they got afterthis week. And you know, I'm
gonna ask this question because they couldcome to it. It can come to
a field goal, it come toa kick. How you rank both of
them special teams. We're getting better. We're getting better special No, it's
it's all right, I tell you. We just gotta have more consistency.
We got two guys that can kickit. We just don't have consistency.

(30:59):
And that's what we're looking for.You know, one day this guy's ahead
of the other. The next day, is it flip flops and we don't
want to take it over. Yeah, that's right. So we need one
got to step up. Yeah wewill, you know, and we and
we get better. One thing iswe looked a whole lot better and put
team this year that we did againstHanley last year. So there you go.
That's an approval. What you seean inconsistency is that like the Pat
field goal or yeah, picking offto trouble with putting two? Right?

(31:22):
Yeah, all right, tell methis? What about theirs? Uh?
Yeah, I think we may havea slight edge in the Special Thames game.
All right, that game will beone hundred point nine the bull.
But we want everybody at Ram Stadium, don't we. Coach, We need
to make some money because this isimportant for your program. Right, that's
right. And that crowd came outgood last week. We had a really
good on crowd something. Adam Hunter, head coach of the Rams. Always
good to see you, coachee, thank you. Smoke Wings, Smoke Wings.

(31:45):
There's another Wings. They're up forzero or to one. We have
to coach and show at most barbecuepresented by the Orthopedic Clink that was the
Valley Rams. We're gonna take abreak and come back. It looks like
oh, at least guy's coming upnext, Buster Daniel and Jonathan Mars when
we come back on the Coaches Show. All right, welcome back to Mose

(32:06):
Barbecue. We're on Fox Sports nineteenthirteen ten, The Game ninety seven point
seven, Kickcraft m our Heart Radioapp and both of'em online at kitcraftm
dot com and Fox Sports The Gamedot Com. D Mark Jeff Jason Van
has left the building. We appreciateMos Barbecue and the Orthopedic Clinic from making
as possible. We are now goingto talk with Lee Scott Football. We
coach Buster Daniel and he's brought JonathanMarks with him. Good, good afternoon,

(32:30):
coach, Good afternoon, dMar.And you have another young lady I
got, I got my ten ofgrace with me, and she's gonna tell
y'all something real quick. Tell ustenna hello, tell her take it off,
let her put it on her here. Yeah, she needs to be
wady, but we need to getoh, we gotta get over the visual
of this right here. We gottaget a visual. Okay, Jad moving

(32:51):
away? You say, oh Ilove that, Bobby, Daddy, What
about Mama? Say Mama, daddy, Mom, Okay, all right,
one more time. All right, that was it, little shot, old
coach she is. Did you tellhim how would jar the three? You
can't. You know, there's nodisputing who you are. I can tell

(33:13):
you that there is no how tobid man. All right. Talk about
this young man right here you broughtwith you, well, I know a
little bit about him, but alittle bit about him. Yeah, but
he uh we talked about last weekwhen we had Miles here that he's one
of the three that's been with usfor four years. You know, JJ
got a lot of playing time asa freshman as a running back and a
linebacker. Think about JJ. Heonly knows one way to go, and

(33:34):
that straight ahead. You know,we'd run to football. He's gonna find
somebody run over. I tell himall the time, you know, go
go take the easy yards. Buthe don't want to do that. He
wants to find somebody to go here, you know, and went just ask
me, you know, running backlinebacker mentality has so uh fine young man,
as you well know. But buthe's one of our leaders on the
field off the field, he's justjust just a great young man. Jonathan.

(33:55):
Good to see tonight. How youdo? I need to know what
you two had to eat first? All right? J J you first,
I had the pool Porto or whatyou have, coach. I had five
pickles, that's all I had.Nobody had wings in this great well had
wings. And I'm taking something hometo Caitlin. So they wings. Wings.
Wings are probably my favorite out hereso far everybody johnthan you had port

(34:16):
All right, So John talking firstoff, So you're one of three players
we had my miles call it asI call you one of three that's been
there four years. Talk a littlebit about playing from your freshman year and
now here you are after winning achampionship and your senior year coming up,
and you're wanting up talk about thejourney if you will. I mean that
first year was a it was arough year, you know, going two

(34:37):
and seven, but it was abig building year. We obviously got a
new offense, new defense, andI mean usually it's just it's always you
need a growing year learning everything.I think people saw that my sophomore year
when we went we got eight andthree, made the semis, right,
that's right, and then I meanwe were TEA was a really good team
that year. I mean, theywere a hard team to beat, but

(34:59):
I think we bought in a lotmore that year and we got to learning
about everything, and it's that helped. And then last year we just a
bunch of recruits and everything, andthen especially we had a couple of really
good leaders that year and that justreally helped the team all get together and
then just had a great year, especially this year. You know, we
had a lot of people leave, but we also had a lot of people

(35:19):
now that are stepping up to fillthose roles. And it's just right now.
It's just winning one game at atime, building on everything that we
can, just trying to find away. I know from your time,
Coach Daniel wasn't have your freshman year. It would have been Coach Johnson freshman
year that this is your four US, right, it was your brother.
I forgot about that, but sobut football wasn't really the thing to do
when you were freshman. There wasn'tmany on the field. Now, but

(35:42):
as we've moved forward, I know, the numbers down a little bit,
but you guys have made it morepopular where people came out. I know
that was a big difference for youguys kind of picked up talk about playing
Chambers the other night. You getto win. It wasn't a great beautiful
win, but you got the wcontinue to win Street. But I would
imagine y'all have a little target onyour back since you were twelve and other
last year. Probably a little bit. Yeah, I mean we blew out

(36:02):
a couple of teams last year andit's just a bunch most of them,
and I mean people are gonna beone pay back, which it makes every
game harder, especially. I mean, I don't know that one. That
game last week, just we founda way to win. It wasn't pretty
wed, but she did good, good job. I don't know. I
just think it's just focusing on usmore than anyone else and making sure especially

(36:27):
we don't take any team for grantedthat we know every team is. It's
gonna be a game this year. It's not just an easy win at all.
Yeah, they're gonna be ready toplay. All right. You're playing
more running back now, but youplay linebacker and and running back. There
got some guys injured. Are youplaying the God? I guess I need
to ask him that where you goback more on defense or what that's gonna
look like coach. He's playing both. You know, he's a he's starting
linebacker and starting running back. Sohey, listen, it's all ends on

(36:51):
deck right now. So we goteverybody playing and uh, he's a he's
a bottle part of our team,as he has been for you know,
three or four years. But yeah, he's playing both sides of ball.
Talk about playing Monro Friday night, one in one. I'll let you go
and then we'll come back. Yeah, you know Monro's it's it's it's old
fashioned football. You know, theygot toe to toe in their splits.
They're coming right at you, andyou know they're gonna run. You know

(37:12):
exactly where they're coming. If youcan stop them, you can win the
game. If you can''s gonna bea long night. So uh, they
uh they got big, they're bigupfront. Got you know, a couple
of guys returning from last year.Still same coach, coach Tubbleville. He
does a good job with those guysdown there. He's got them believing and
uh, like I said, they'regood at what they do. But we
we got a we got tough taskahead of us with the defense and stopping

(37:32):
those guys coming straight at us.We can bounce and make go side to
side. I think we got agood chance. But that's not what they're
trying to do. They're trying tocome right at you, and we gotta
be able to stop that. Theyscored they lost to Jackson Academy thirty one
six and then blew out Sparta fiftynine fourteen. Do they run it like?
I know, they run different thanChambers, but Chambers tried to line
up and run the ball that child. Yeah, a little different offensio.
Chambers wing tea and they're really goodat what they do. But you know,

(37:54):
this is just too tight in uhwing and they run a lot of
counter you know, a lot ofa lot of quarterback power. But I
mean it's just coming down here straightat you. So I said, we
got to be able to stop that. Have a chance, Jonathan, you
had we called last week. Youguys gotten better, I think, so.
Yeah, we just spent a lotof time, don't I'll focusing on
the basics and making sure, especiallycorrecting mistakes from that week one game,

(38:15):
don't I know, especially on defense. We're out of place a good bit
at the time. And I thinkit's because just the young people. It's
just it's their first time ever startedmaybe or just getting in the game in
a major moment. And this year, these two weeks were just focused on
getting all that in place. Youdidn't have a lot of new guys out
of there, coach, A newguys, You guys, I thought all
of them played well, I'm notgreat. No, No, that's right.

(38:37):
Yeah, and Jonathan knows more aboutthem out of place than I.
And most of them played last yearin a in a I don't say mop
up, but the game was athand a couple. This is forty five
nothing last year. Yeah, go, that's right. But like I said
that, but these guys played alot, but it wasn't the same kind
of competition. Now they got togo from the start. You know,
they got they know what's ahead ofthem, and it's just tough step up

(38:58):
as a leader and and be areIt's a lot of different Coach, good
talk to your kids. Enjoyed pilot? Uh sorry yeah, I got his
nickname. And then this is edright here now, Jonathan, you don't
get j J. You didn't getenjoyed it, Coach, couldn't you the
games at home? It isn't longride, no longs to pass. Get
your ticket has two pag go cashof the gate. No cash of the
gate at least? Guy, Thanks, yes, sir, you shall continues

(39:21):
Russell County when we come back,Hey, welcome back to the High School
Coaching Show. We're right here liveat Most. Original barbecue was brought to
you by Moles. What's pet Clinton? We're on Fox Sports, The Game
and Kicker. Next up, wegot coach Dylan Griggs with Russell County.

(39:45):
How you doing? I'm doing good. How are you coach? I'm just
happy to be here. How how'severything? How's practice been going this week?
It's been going good, a lotbetter this weekend. Well, yeah,
it's a lot cooler, you know, and especially you know, we
lost a heartbreaker on Friday and thatwas really tough, and you know,
I uh, you know, Iwas. I was really excited to see

(40:06):
our guys, you know, resiliencyand commitment to getting better as we got
back in this week. Last year, y'all won in a similar went in
up a like a one score gamelast year. Good, Joel, No,
it was. It was an elevenpoint score game last year. But
you know, last year, lastyear, we had a lot more seniors,
you know, we started four sophomoreson the offensive side and three on
the defensive side. But you know, we go down nine, you know,

(40:30):
we we we drive all the waydown to the one on the open
and drive fumble on the one yardline. So then they jump up thirteen
to nothing. We come back,we take the lead fourteen to thirteen midway
through the third and then just wentback and forth. You know, we
scored and tied the game with aboutfour minutes three and a half minutes left
on the clock. And you know, coach Watson just did a real good
job. They got in uh thisold school T formation the entire second half

(40:52):
and just kind of words down wardsdown, got down to the fifteen yard
line with one second left on theclock and kicked the game winning field with
thirty five yard field goal to winthe ball game. Wow. So you
know, I mean, you know, it's the best I've ever seen a
Russell County football team looks since I'vebeen here. And I will say that.
I mean, when you just jumpedon the radio and heard some good

(41:12):
stuff right there, I mean,I mean, it was a really good
game, guys. It was physical. Good for you to say I agree
with that. You don't have agame this week, no, sir.
Yeah, so you got two weeksyou're prepared for Stanhope, stand Hope Elmore.
And they lost their open I believe, didn't they come They beat Shade
Valley. Yeah, they did beatShade's Valley. But you know the thing
that made me excited is we wentand played a five A school that has

(41:34):
twenty five hundred kids in it.We got we got maybe a thousand,
you know, and and you knowthat was a massive up front, guys.
It was our If you go watchthe game, it was Rocky versus
Apollo, and it was it wasa legitis back and forth all night.
And the thing that excited me themost in anything was we went and played
a really physical football team and youknow, we went blow for bluff and

(41:54):
they won with one second left onthe clock. I wasn't I was over
there. Did y'all talk, didy'all go through that? Yeah, we
won't go ahead? And I wasgonna find out. Yeah, I mean
he came down. I mean hetalks about him getting into okay, pounding
the ball one down. I gotdown to the fifteen, he kicked the
field. That's what happened. Okay. Yeah. They wanted to say,
well that's what I heard that,but I didn't get the full details.
Well it makes sense, you know, it's second field goal. What does

(42:15):
that mean? You know? Well, if you if you score on the
open and drive, you win,you know, and then I don't use
your time. But for that whengoing, well, you're open next week,
go ahead, you can do it. We are rush you through.
You know. They scored on adouble reverse pass that we worked on all
week and the corner just got caughtbriefly looking in the backfield and guy just
beat him be half a second. It was. It was a heck of
a game. Guys. Well letme say this though, for you,
just say that about your team. How are they responding to great? You

(42:37):
just said, okay, great.I mean it's been a great week.
I think when you know, whenyou pop on the film, you know,
and you kind of show them thelittle bitty things. You know.
This group is a little bit different. Like I said, we're really young.
We started four sophomores on one side, three on the other side.
You know, but man, theygot some fight in them. I mean,
thirt down thirteen and nothing. RussellCounty of the Old that probably would
have turned into about a thirty fiveto seven ball game, because you'd never

(42:59):
beat that team's never your school's neverbeat Stanhope. And that's a very close
game right there? How about that? Do you know that? No?
Yeah, so we got stand Hopein two weeks and we've never beaten Old
and fifteen. How about that?Old time? I liked that little right
there? So what have you beendoing this week? You know, just

(43:19):
getting better that we kind of wekind of chased a couple of the way
we practice, and so we've beendoing a lot more good on good stuff,
giving each other. You know, the look of the team. You
know, we're already we've been preparingfor Stand Hope ball week. I I
intentionally and and you know, coach, you know I love the head coach
over there's a great guy. ButI intentionally put this by week in here
to prepare for them for two weeks. It was intentional. Now what why
would just give me a reason justto get to this the super Bowl?

(43:43):
Really? This is that game? Why is it? Because if we beat
them, we got a chance tomake the playoffs. For real, we're
pretty good. Now we're not thesame, Okay, so even though this
region game. I wasn't even thinkingabout your region, coach, I had
you to do. I thought aboutthat after you said it. Okay,
we gotta catch me on that becauseI was thinking you're in a different region.
Yeah, we gotta we gotta beatstand Hope cause you got car.
Yeah, I can see. Isee what you're saying. Well, you
got a chance. I mean,we got a chance. I'm telling you,
like if you if you came andwatch it, it's just different,

(44:06):
man, it's just different. Andyou know, I'm excited. We'll see.
I don't know what the Lord hasin store for us, but I
knows they're working really, really hard, and this is a good young football
team. It is legit. WellI can tell football. I can tell.
I just gave you a stat. They kind of fired Jip too,
because it was twenty one forty fivelast year, although you're not playing last
year, Well it was it wastwenty one thirty five. Well they got
it wrong in here. What I'mbetter get it right. You know,

(44:27):
it's name my site, but that'sjust the historical site. So it's okay,
it's no big deal. But youknow that, you know that you're
oh and fifteen against them. Sothat'll give you a little a little mope
O. I'm all in, yeah, there you go. So rest of
this week you get to go watchthem play. What do you what you
got? Well, say the Lordfor NFHS MO. You're right about that.
We're gonna We're gonna have a fullpractice tomorrow. We'll get in Friday,

(44:50):
do a workout, do some walkthroughs, watch a little bit of
film, get them home. Coacheswill come in on Sunday and I'm gonna
spend some time with my wife andmy kid. There you go, and
you know, and enjoy that alittle bit of time on Saturday and when
I'm not watching Friday night's game allday and trying to figure out this and
that and that and this, andyou know, we're gonna get ready to
hopefully go win our first home game. You got stand Hope at home and

(45:13):
Carver at home, two big Reagiongames before you go to Valley. I
mean to wee tump and then Valley. All right, talk to me real
quick. Sundays. How do y'allrun your Sunday? See? Same?
Uh? We come in. Wehave we have a company that that usually
caters one of our coaches Mills andwe eat and kind of have a brotherhood
moment, you know, and it'sall. Then we do a staff meeting
for thirty minutes, talk about Sunday'sgame, and then what the plan is
for the week, go ahead andhand up practice plans. Then we split

(45:36):
O and D and we start breakingdown and watching and coming up the game
plan. You know, typically ata lot of places we would bring kids
in on Sunday, but the bigproblem is, you know, we got
kids that live about forty five milesaway, and so it's just not really
conducive for our kids. So weget extra workouts in and do different stuff
during the week. We actually workout on game day. Now you do
we work out on game days morning? What do I know which one fifty?

(45:57):
We get a little light? Okay, I'm telling you guys, like
I was really worried going to thatHarris County game about how physical they were
on film. You know, youcan be like, what Troupe beat the
Stewart. I'm Troupe wint twelve andtwo and lost in the semi finals.
Yeah, and they only beat onthirty one and nothing. I mean,
you know, that's a really goodteam. Who's who's got a leading rusher
that broke the Georgia state record lastyear for most rushing yards of the season.

(46:19):
And so you know, you couldn'treally gauge how good they were based
off of troop. And so youknow the big thing is is, you
know, I saw how physical theywere, and I saw my team.
Now they flags, they did whatthey had to do. I'm proud.
Good, good job Russell County. They're open this week. Big game,

Moles. The author Pete Clinting. We're on the Kicker ninety seven, Boy
and seven and Fox Force the gamenineteen thirteen, ten am, and we

(47:05):
got Loatra Poke up next. Coachuh Riko Newton. You go by Riko.
Look you don't go by Frederick. You Rico is good? Okay?
Making sure you bought a coach tweencoach on the inter Yeah, it's coach
Brian. Coach Brian played football atOpelika here, one of the greatest programs
around here for US Little League. He ran started the youth foundation of the

(47:28):
Dog Crown program, did a verygood job for that, got that going
in and I saw the opportunity toget him over heat Loach Folk and he
worked out for it. Oh yeah, alright. Last week, coach,
you beat Latte thirty five to twelveat the what do they call that?
It's it's sort of a it's theKickoff Classic, Kickoff, Kickoff Classic.
Yeah, that's the name is.Yeah, just started off. You know,
it's just like no small schools, you know, the normally kickoff classical,

(47:50):
you know with the bigger schools. So he wanted to do something for
the smallest school so we called theKickoff Class cross Off. Uh. Ordinarily
that game would have been on Saturdayat five and seven. Yeah, y'all
have played the seven o'clock game.We would played the five seven o'clock game,
Linette and no, the socle playedthe five o'clock game, but it
was too hot. But due tothe heat, yeah, they moved the
game Friday seventh, Saturday seven. So that worked out. Good zach.

(48:14):
Uh, you beat Lafette. Yougot Budler this, you know what.
Let's talk about the Lafete game realbriefly. Okay, Well, it was
a good game. We got acouple of breaks. You know. We
had two touchdowns scored byur defense. Our defense did a great job. They
scored two touchdowns. And my offensethey did a great job too. You
had some kids to move up all. We had Darlington that ran for one

(48:35):
hundred and forty forty six yards,Jeremy Darlington. He's a senior for us
in the offensive line. They alsodid a great job in Our quarterback did
a great job of managing the game. Very good. Hey this week you
got Beautle beat You beat the Beautlelast year. Uh, let's see twenty
to six. We got him thisyear. They they beat upon Abbyville for
the good kils. I think theywere better team this year than last year.

(48:58):
Have you seen y'all let film?Okay, Coach Bryan. Yeah,
yeah, we looked at Buella thisyear and they looked it looked pretty good.
I wasn't here last year, butI had to go back and watch
the film and everything. Yeah,we're looking for it and then to be
a better team than they were lastyear. Right, and this is uh
or are we playing in Buetle orwere playing interbeller in bul Okay? So

(49:20):
that you gotta travel for that?Yeah, well you gotta do to beat
the beautle Bobcats, coach. Remember, you gotta have a good game.
You gotta have a good offensive game, a good defensive game, a gat
a special team game. They lookvery good team. You know, they
got some great athletes over there,So we just gotta have over all good
game. Uh you special teams, coach? How are they especial team?
Coach? Are here? Yeah,Coach Bryan, special teams. We we
we're pretty good. We we weWe're still working in pieces here and there,

(49:43):
but from when they look last week, it was a few mistakes we
had to clean up and we're gonnawork on tomorrow. But it wasn't many
we had to clean up with specialteams. All the snaps were good and
and all that the kick kickoffs weregood or was it mister simons on or
coverage or is it not to beHonestly, it was first game blunders.
Okay, the first game. Sometimeswe might you know, and it's on

(50:06):
me and I'll take that. Maybeonce we might have had a ten out
there, you know, but itwas nothing that was anything that could have
really just hurt is that we couldn'tfix. Right, So everything that we
we saw, we went back andlooked at film and coach Walker and we
can't We got it. We gota great plan for special teams. You
know, you hear coaches say everyevery year. Uh, the the improvement
between game one and two is thebiggest that you have there, exactly.

(50:28):
It's a good thing. You know. You got that game once so you
can go back and look at themmistakes and correct them. You know.
That's the kids get to get achance to go against somebody beside their selves.
You get a chance to evaluate, you know, what your program is
looking like, what your kids lookingwatch it on filming kept them get better.
This is a non region game,it's but you're playing up in classification.
You're playing the three eight. Yes, we played, so we get

(50:50):
a chance, got a chance toplay a two eight, I think,
which is the felt then we geta chance for at three A. The
thing I tell our kids is thatit doesn't the eight doesn't matter us.
We just want to go out andplay football. All right, how many
young your roster? Coach? Rightnow? We have about twenty eight twenty
eight? Didn't you picking on howmany? How many? How many starts
out of the twenty eight? Imean, do you have anybody how many

(51:15):
you got twenty two starters? Orif you got I guess we guys going
both ways, got a lot ofguys. He's got about eight. You
got a lot of guys both Thisis I try to tell him, it's
iron man football, and it's goodbecause you get a chance to showcase your
challenge on both sides of the football. You know, So if you we
call our kids athlete, you know, we don't say you played this psition
and played up station. Understand whatyou got to be an athlete? You

(51:35):
play anything I got do on thefootball field. We talked about your players.
I know you got I know coachlistens new you give me some new
coaches on listening coach Bryan Walker.Okay, coach Walker's new coach. We
got coach Hirsch, the coach ofthe offensive line. He's new. Also,
I think that's about it. I'mmissing it about the coach. Just
three or four are there? Ayeah? Coach one? Yeah, out

(51:59):
here here next week because he's offense. Coach camp eight five right there,
coach, So coach he gets somebodygot we body got one. I'm like
the dog players per coach. Yeah, exactly three point five players in east.
Coach, do you hear what Isaid? Cause he comes to get
eating certificate as a durn We gotthe dog pounds? Yeah, exactly right.

(52:22):
I was convert thing. Yeah, but I'm glad you got him.
I know we got way back.It was it was very big get a
coach like that, but you understandI didn't know it. And I was
like, okay, yeah, dogpound in the house. You know,
I'm kidding now, you know I'mkid, but I am glad to see
that. So all right, thegame is uh, on the road,
right, you gotta do so talkingabout going on the road after going on

(52:43):
the road last, well, onthe road is good? Is also they
seen your night? You know, what I'm saying. So we get a
chance to go over there for theysee your night. It's it's a good
thing. You get you not alreadywill Yeah, it's because it's a non
region and Coach, you're trying todo it very early. So that's a
good thing. So we get overthere and get a chances on the road,
you know. So it's a goodthing for us. Y'all had a
good little too, y'all. Onelast year y'all have played uh what I
had right here, the last two, twenty three, eleven and for twenty

(53:07):
three and eleven. So this wouldbe the forty fifth game, okay that
you guys, No, thirty fifthgame that you guys have played. So
anything else before we go, Coach, that's it. That's it. Thank
y'all so much for you know, absolutely having us here and during the summer,
having usduring the summer. Really appreciateyou, what you promote. I
appreciate you. I got. Ilooked over there today and I'll reach for
something. I reached over the littletrophy you game, a little platform coming
to the banquet and the one myone, the one way, the poke

(53:30):
away. That's it. I hadsitting there so think about you like,
let's see you Rico, thank you, love you too. The Rico Newton

(53:53):
for the High School Coaches Show onThe Kicker and Fox Sports nineteen thirteen ten
to game the Coaches Show, presentedto you by the Orthopedic every week.
De Mark, Jeff and Jason Leein the house. Were outside at Most
Barbecue at ben Creek. They havetwo locations, one and offering downtown and
one right here on the perimeter.Great great restaurant. I mean a wide
array of items to order from vegetables, kids meals, catfish, port chicken

(54:17):
wings, barbecue, ribs, vegetables, putting, They got it all everything
everything, you got it. That'sright. We appreciate them and the Regional
Orthopedic Excellence Orthopedic Clinic. They've donesurgeries on me and jeffs. We know
they're good. The Lafaette Bulldogs arein the house. Gentlemen. It is

(54:37):
good to see you all tonight. How are we doing? Great? Good
to see you. Absolutely. Iknow, Coach Williams, I was thinking,
and I've been known to be overevents in my time, from helping
with Super seven to running baseball tournaments. You had two games at your house
last week. I know you weretired when Saturday night rolled around. My

(54:58):
friend, because I know you wereon duty a long time, I want
to bring that up first. SoI commend your staff for doing that last
week. Yeah, because it wason you. Yeah. Well, I
commend our principal CHRISTI brought Johnson, our system prison, Michael Mattillo and that,
and our staff, those and ourour moms and dads will help us

(55:20):
in the concessions. They had todo it back to back. So this
was a one hundred degree heat. This was a total latte board, all
effort, total effort, well everybody, so uh you know, yeah,
and now all of us, noneof us probably slept for two days,
I know, to clean up thenext morning and all of that. My
coach is a lot people have noidea what goes in the hosting football game.

(55:42):
And you had to yeah, Friday, and I know it would have
been better on the gate if youhad both games at once, but hopefully
y'all made a little money. Hopefully. Yeah, well, probably didn't do
what we wanted. Like I say, that's why we did it on this
morning, to do it on Saturday, because you had Valley and Hue and
they took away from a game wehad everybody around, you know. So
anyway, all right, so alittle bit about the game, coach,

(56:04):
and we'll we'll move on. Idon't want to dwell on it. It
was a uh let's see, hopewhere was it scored? Thirty thirty two
twelve over poker? Talk a littlebit about your team, and then Weller
County blew up in the fourth quarter. Guys, I think they scored twenty
one points. It was twelve seesgame. In the middle of I was
gonna say, you were winning.Uh yeah, we no excuses, uh

(56:24):
our guys. Foot injuries a partof the game. We lost like three
guys three lining out during the game. Yeah, so you know, really
just just hurt us. And allright, young kids stepped up and played
till the fourth quarter and just couldn'thold a strong poker team out. Uh.
Like I said, they scored twentyone points in the in the fourth

(56:45):
quarter. So that's what really gotus. We felt we had a really
good team and going against like Isaid, we scored the first play of
the ball game, like really, yeah, we were in a stream and
it was up six and nothing thiswow, no extra point? Is it
go for two every time? Come? Oh? Sorry, we we just
missed the field. Okay, butgive credit to Pola. Uh Coach Newton

(57:07):
and his staff. They did agreat job. They had a good game
playing going in like say, inthe end, they they seen we were
depleted, and they they pounded onus in the end, and that's that's
where he got the thirty two twelveman. All Right, we're gonna move
on. That's a tough game.Uh. And first off of your kids.
Okay, that got hurt. Uh, we're still seeing. Uh one's

(57:29):
got a partilar tending. That's one'sgot him a Nisca's dang. So we're
we're speaking of the north. PeterClint, you got him going. Hey,
it was so funny. I wasup there with doctor boble day.
He said, coh got about thirtyI said, yeah, we all in
here, all right, Uh,Bullet County coach. They lost uh last
year thirty twenty one. You lostto him talking about about playing Bullet County.

(57:51):
What do we know about Bullet countbig game this week, we're trying
to get an a win. BulletCounty has got a great coach, Jeremy
Vines. He's from La fed Asthe coach at uh Bullet County. So
it's gonna be a big gang.Coach Leavitt went to uh Barbara County.
He text me yesterday, I didn'tknow that. Yeah, I didn't know
that was I didn't know that afteryou said that your old school. Yeah.

(58:12):
So yeah, so coaches brought ina lot of great coaches, went
him up there to China. It'sgonna change that place around. Uh.
He has a great attitude. Sowe're gonna have to be on Ips and
Ques and our guys will have tofight hard to to get a win Friday
night against all Right, we're talkingthe Fat Foot do or football at Tea
coaches show Demark Jeff and Jason thefat Uh about to to take on go

(58:34):
on the road and take on BulletCounty coach. They lost seven to three
to Key. Yes, sir,so is this uh you know, give
me a little bit about how youthink your team will match up with Bullet
County. Coach, you ain't jumpedin here. Well, hey, I
feel like let's coach said, wewill have to play you know, some
some younger guys that that had togrow up, you know, this past

(58:57):
weekend, and I'm glad that theydid get the experience. But I liked,
uh the chance all chances. Uh, Like I said, we have
to play mistake freeball. You know, we can't make the turnovers we did
late. You know on the fourthquarter we jumped it over twice, and
it's gotta take care of the footballand execute a lot better than we did

(59:17):
this past weekend. Coach. That'suh, that's pretty well said. Did
you if you had a good weekso far? We had trying to avoid
the rain. It seemed like therain just been dropping in the fatte.
I asked everybody the rain and theysaid noah, cause I said, well
it's raining here. We was inthe rain to day and uh we left
our team. We uh after wegot through a lot of stuff and they

(59:37):
were still practiced, so we weretrying to make up but what we've been
missing. I hope you get youguys back. Yes, I do too.
Yeah, I know that I dotoo, be good to get them
back. Yeah, we're we're we'rewe're in bad need of a win and
we're gonna work hard to get it. We'll stay up and I got a

(59:59):
good group of guys. Do youunderstand the passion we have about this?
And you understand I think our alot of coaches were disappointed this week,
putting a lot of hard work andreally felt that we had a great game
plan going against uh lot pokling,Like say, coach, you can't,
you can't, you can't stop him, No, you can't. Good to
see you on appreciates coach, Goodto see you. Good love being Bulldogs

(01:00:21):
in the house. They're going onthe road, take on Bullet County this
week. We'll take a break, come back. Dave boy is in the

Thank you. We appreciate that.Buddy. You know what's going on?
Yeah, he's say yeah, he'skeeping up with the area. Coach McDonald
has joined us. Time for excitement. This man right here can make up
statement in that whole state. Changeright just he is ef hunting of high

(01:01:30):
school play. And when he thoughtsthey listen, Coach Row, excuse me,
I won't do it wrong. CoachMcDonald, my buddy, good to
see you. Coach Roach, he'snot going. How is your mom and
daddy doing? You know I toldyou my mama, Yes you did.
I knew that. I didn't said, but no, that's the second time
I was tempt about your dad. He's doing yeah. Hey, Uh,

(01:01:51):
nobody works harder in him day theywatched college, uh little late the college
he was he didn't miss a dadgum strike. Awesome. You know he
loves it. He loves youth baseball. Yeah, I bet he's a Brad's
fan too. Uh not really, you know, he don't watch much of
the pros. And hey, wegrew up. I grew up Yankees fan,
you know. He he taught meto be Yankees faning around. I

(01:02:14):
could tell you the rotation, Icould tell you the start. Who was
it that? Real quick rotation?Real quick? Uh you had Goose gaussage,
Yeah you had uh? Oh godly, what was Oh my gosh,
why did you ask? Sorry,we don't want to run your year?
Was he talking in the chemis?Thurman Mutson was a catcher. Chris Chambler's
play first, Uh, Royster playedsecond base, later went to the Brave,

(01:02:37):
then Lucky, then it was shortstart. Craig Nettle's played third,
lull and Reggie Jackson and Mickey Rivers. Where you go there? You look
him? Who was catching Thurman musonnumber fifteen? You look up tough he
does because he got Ah, that'sright, dang y'all bringing it tonight?

(01:02:57):
Yep, how about that? Mydad would be proud. He loved that,
all right. Uh be becoming athirty five twenty one loss last week,
real quick, and we're moving forwardeven though you opened this week.
But yeah, so I just talkedabout we become within the whole time.
We ain't got nothing talking about thiscoming week. And it was good to
play our His word is I.I had been about playing in the heat.
We needed to play. I wasable to get on film and see

(01:03:19):
some stuff and you know, andbecause there was things we didn't know about
ourselves. Uh, so we neededthat game against a really good football team.
They went up fourteen nothing. Wecame back and tied it back up.
Now we went ahead fifteen fourteen, right for a half, they scored.
Wants to go up. Uh strippedthe ball from our back. Uh

(01:03:39):
he went back. A good playerfor him, he went back sixty guards
went up too. We cut itback, We scored again, and they
scored again, and we drove itdown. You know, we ain't got
much of a two minute offense whenwe are what we are. Drove it
back down and end up being atwo score game. But at that point
we were trying to just work onwhat we're working. We end up three

(01:04:00):
hundred and seventy six George rushing atChristians coach. That's a bunch, you
know, So we we know wegot some good backs. Liman did a
pretty good job defensively. We playedextremely hard, but you know, I
lost nine seniors, so it waslike seven. I mean there were seven
who literally very seldom have played.A couple played some, but like I

(01:04:21):
said, only two guys were backfrom last year on defense and uh so,
but it was good. They youknow, things we need to tweak
fixed to simplify things on defense asfars and help them out. But I
tell them, wrong, as youplay hard, we're gonna keep coaching.
You were gonna get you lined upwhere you supposed to be in uh.
I told him at times it waslike coaching a B team game because of

(01:04:43):
the inexperience with the kids. Youknow, you just can't make certain adjustments
because man edge is trying to learnhow to play the game. But you
know you're supposed to get better betweenthe first game and the second game.
So we get an extra week offand you know that's the first time we
we've really been able to get afterit, have wake up. Uh We've
did half line at practice. Idon't know if anybody does half line anymore,

(01:05:04):
but half line, and we've gottenafter it best on best this week
and so we had real good weekof practice and uh, you know we
got two more days. We workedon ourselves first three days, Uh tomorrow
and Friday, we'll go ahead andstart working on Weaver that's who we play
next week, and uh and gettingourselves ready for them. But you know,

(01:05:24):
the kids, they know they're young, and they know we're gonna get
better every week. And like Isaid, one of the one of the
other touchdowns they scored was a fiftyfifty ball that our safety and corner went
up for. Our ball bounced outof the hand, looked just like the
Auburn Georgia game. Got got itrented in thirty yards for touchdown. Wow,
so you take away those two scores. You never know, but uh

(01:05:45):
clearly, when you have a sixfoot three, two hundred and forty five
pound Division one running back in Classtwo A and three A, you're usually
the better team. And about thatrunning back who's back, Oh yeah,
he's back, and he he isa good player. And coach Fawcett,
you know there was at Smith Stationat one time. You know they do

(01:06:09):
a good job. And uh sothey went to the finals last year and
played five Well, uh so youknow you can expect they did, they'll
be a contender for the two Astate championship again. And uh but I
don't care what a year in.When you got that cat playing tailback,
he gives them a chance. Anduh and there was times we didn't tackle

(01:06:30):
him, and I'm not sure thattimes we really they had some guys that
wanted to tackle him. It iswhat it is that that film don't lie.
That's why we told the kids.I said, y'all don't believe us,
look right down on that film. And uh so there were some times
maybe when we started getting a littletired, we didn't really want to keep
sticking in in there with him.Uh but you know, we don't see

(01:06:53):
it a Division one tailback every Friday, So that's a good thing. Uh.
You know, we ran trap onetime and broke it for fifty yards.
That guy called Jay Burns, heplays every running back position and quarterback,
linebacker, they called him. Theycalled him about the twenty and it's
funny. They had a picture ofit. The him and the guy that
called him are both laying there withcramps in each leg and they and they

(01:07:16):
took a picture of it. Frommidway through the second quarter to the end
of the game, multiple kids crampingfor both teams. But you know that's
I attribute that because it's kind ofturned into a little rival and both teams
play so intense. It wasn't likea blowout or a meaningless game with somebody.

(01:07:36):
Our kids played so hard and theirkids played hard, And I think
that's why it was so much cramping, because it's been that way both years
we played, and just both teamsplayed so hard, and it's it's you
know, you see some of theseweek zero Week one games that are blowouts,
but when it's not a blowout, and then kids had to fight for
four quarters and in the intensities everyplay, you know, that just adds

(01:08:00):
to the cramp. And you knowpeople should are they in shape. I'm
like, heck, I don't knowif in shape or not. We're just
practicing by getting in shape. It'sstill it's still ninety something to graze out
here, and two teams are playingwith fifteen sixteen kids. Ain't gonna cramp.
I mean, ain't nothing to dowith that. But they played hard
and I was proud of them, and and they've had a good week of
practice so far. This week.Let me tell your coach I appreciate you

(01:08:21):
making this trip every week over here. It means a lot to us.
And you know what, you lookhappy there at Davil, Oh you enjoying.
Yeah, I love you. Wouldlike you enjoying being the coach at
Davel High School. Yeah, itlooks like they're glad to have you too.
Well. Yeah, I hope so. And we got great kids and
great supporters and great administration. Imean, everything's great school school. Always

(01:08:41):

about it working with him for allmy life. And it is a great
place. I'm glad you're there. It's good to see Well, it's good

all picked Oover. So don't talkto being. I'm just kidding, but

(01:10:09):
I picked him tigers and let mesee something. I'm in the bowl.
I looked down a check the store. I'm like, whoa, my man,
you you know I had your coach. You know, I appreciate it.
You know, we appreciate y'all.Yes, certain, Jeff, did
we not? Now I didn't getthat walk side of the store, but
now I took I got to makepoints. Coach, I saw all I
needed. I'm just kid, goahead a good win and talk about beating
and appreciate it. Our kids playedgreat. You know, I think that

(01:10:30):
we came out we sput it onoffense first two or three drives, and
then we got it going. Wehit a screen pass with Omar Maps and
and that got things rolling. Youknow, hit a couple more more passes,
and you know, uh flakes hada really good night Omar Maps and
had a really good night. Allthe receivers played well. Uh you know
Jackson, you know, Jackson Kilgorehad a great night. Twenty of thirty

(01:10:55):
for Yeah, he's two hundred children, almost three hundred. Yeah yeah,
had three three two two downs, ran another one, so, you know,
really good start for him. Youknow, we just gotta continue to
get better. Offensive line played well, you know, I think that our
defense, our defense played great onnight. You know, Hoover's got a
great football team, you know,so you know to play well and and

(01:11:15):
and get that win to open upwhat's big for us. Coach, you
beat Hoover two straight years. That'sstrong man, that is that's a statement
right there. A lot of peopledon't do that, right you and you
went up there and did it.And you didn't do it at home.
You did it at a neutral siteand on the road, right, I
mean even more impressed our kids itis. They're gonna play Harvard regardless of
where they're at. And I thinkI agree with that. Our kids are

(01:11:39):
tough and resilient. You know,we got we got uh they get behind,
they don't, they don't pay it. They just played play their style
of ball. And I think thatthat's just testament to them and and our
coach and staff. Absolutely. Andyou goes be on the office on the
defense side, believable job waggoning onthe offensive side, and all those assistants,

(01:11:59):
you know, they just do agreat job. Thirty nine fourteen.
Last week, huge win on theroad at the meet Coach Ben Blackman,
an enterprise come over you're about amile from here right to our right here,
you're left at Duck Sanford. It'sgood you're playing at home. Ye,
Ben Blackman, you know him well. Yeah, Enterprise is a well
coached team. He is a goodfriend of ours two and yeah he was
on them giving your team up alot of credit and compliments this morning.

(01:12:20):
Talk a little bit about playing Enterprise. I take care coach speakman here,
yes with you know, Ben doesa great job. Ben's a class at
You know, I got to coachwith Ben in the in the Mississippi Alabama
All Star Game, and you knowwe coach against each other in the state
championship in two thousand nineteen. Youknow, he always has his guys well
prepared. They always gonna play hard, They're always gonna be class. You

(01:12:43):
know, I think that, youknow, it's just one of them things
where you get two groups of ofof guys who are gonna give everything they
got And I think that, uh, you know, that's testament to him
too. You know, I've knownbeing for a long time, you know,
last seven or eight years. Youknow, I think, and uh,
he's a great football cup your teamcoach coming off a big win,
how have they handled the practice, how they handled the big pick coming back,

(01:13:03):
got to get ready to play anotherbig game that you're reaching. Yeah,
well Monday, I thought we wasgonna have to line up and and
re reinvent the gaser because you know, we we we we had a we
struggled a little bit. Monday ishot, you know, so they they
struggled a little bit. You know, got a big win against Hoover,
you know, kind of feeling good. So you know, we we we

(01:13:27):
got on pretty good on Monday.Tuesday. They came in with a completely
different attitude today, had a greatpractice. So you know, I think
that it's one of them things whereyou know, you just gotta keep them.
I tell them, you gotta stayhungry, you gotta stay humble.
You know. Uh, you wantto you want to be playing your best
ball. You should. You shouldmake your biggest jump between your first and
second game. You know. Sowe'll see how we play Friday night.

(01:13:50):
You know, I think that Ithink we we caused a couple of turnovers
against Hoover, which helped big time. One of them for a touchdown,
and uh got a big pig byour defensive lineman deuce, you know,
Uh in that third quarter right theretowards the end, and uh turned that
into seven points. So I thinkthat everybody's playing with a lot of confidence

(01:14:10):
right now. They were ready toplay somebody else and known each other,
they were, you know. Andwe still got a couple of guys out
that's banged up a little bit thatwe you know, we I don't know
if we'll get him back this weekor next week, but they're close to
being ready to play, you know. So hopefully you get those guys back,
and it's saw some prome. I'mwill say this townsmgoo fifty five and
forty let me say this, coach, I should have sent that in for

(01:14:32):
highlights. Yeah, I owe youan apology. I keep up with our
area and do that, and Ididn't. I forgot to send the highlights
in him and he would have.He should have made it and would have
made it. So I owe himan apology that he wasn't in there this
week. But you kick a fiftyfive yard field goal. He got to
get in there all right, soon, say Towns McGoo, you're the man.
Okay, fifty five and forty five, Look, you ain't gotta put
him in. Well, he's gonnalate now, but I did it right

(01:14:53):
here. Yeah, yeah, Ibecause he kicks a fifty five yard and
I got I gotta put him inthe email. Well guess what I forgot
to send an eight coach. He'she that'd been good for six. I
know he'll break state. He's gotlegotron, right, lego tron. There
you go. Well you can givehim shout out huh you get to the
Yeah, I told him. Itold him, we get in a game
where we gotta come to score, lead or whatever, and we get we
get like on the forty five orsomething. I said, can't kick it

(01:15:15):
lay a game for here. Yougo back, you up five and you
kid chance the state. Chance.Make sure he knows I got him right.
It's good to see. Hey,thank y'all, guy, sir,
thanks for coming back. Good Sea. That's it. That's Auburn higst Keith
Etherd. We're live at Moles HighSchool. Coach is So presented by the
orthopede at Clinic bordguards Justin Johns. When we come back, I'm on,

(01:15:42):
all right, I'm on, We'rehere. We're back. Welcome to the
High School Coaches Show. It's thegreatest five minutes the most exciting five minutes
of the coaching Show. It's BorguardFootball time. Welcome back to the sponsored

Barbecue. I Heeart radio. Yes, we hit the Orthopedic Clinic. Now

(01:16:06):
he's got me turned up where everybodycan hear you. So it's cigar time.
He was being serious. I forgothis intro. He had to get
it, he had to get itdown. I'm coach, Justin Jones.
Nice to meet you. So soif you hate, hey, but if
you look, if he's back nextweek, baby, we'll have it rocking
and rolling. He's got it.He gotta know. I'm just messing with

(01:16:29):
him, mister, No, hedon't. Yeah, okay, I'm just
making I keep talking coach. Lastweek he beat in the Kickoff Classic Thursday
Night game. Man, it wason TV. I think everybody got to
watch it. I know that ifthey watched it, they probably salt.
It might have been the hottest. So I was hot at my DN for

(01:16:53):
you, Holy cow, I'm talkingabout the turf was hot, the inside
the bowl was hot. But Ireally I'm thankful that that coach Briggs and
those guys moved that kickoff back eighto'clock. Yeah, it was different,
Coach, there was a huge Likewe were warming up at seven and I
think it was still inside the bowlthat heat index was still right around one

(01:17:14):
hundred one oh two. By eighto'clock, you know, it had dropped
probably ten degrees. Because that's abig difference. I know. I agree.
At Friday again in the Oplack ofThomas game, I was it was
a huge difference set eight thirty comparedto seven thirty, right, So yeah,
I agree, that's a big deal. Yeah it was. It was
a big deal. You guys. You know you got the win. Look
like everybody handled it. Any morethoughts on that and we'll move forward.

(01:17:34):
I thought, I mean, Ithought our kids handed well, played well.
I mean, there's things we gottamake sure we improve on in the
kicking game especially, and but defensivelyflew around. Coach can talk a couple
of good offensive production type deal youdid. Yeah, what I was really
proud of them for the offensive sideof the football. For Game one,

(01:17:55):
we had one penalty for five yardsand no turnovers. So you know,
when you do that, you gota really good chance to win. And
then the way we were able torun the football, and we were you
know, I was able to hearsome big throws and convert some third down.
So very pleased with how he played. Like coach said, we got
a lot to work on to getto where we want to get to,
but overall, very pleased how weplayed. Good time. All right,

(01:18:17):
let's move forward. Coach Haneyville CentralHaneyville this week. Yes, sir,
that would be coach Carlton Johnson inhis second year. Mister sas, Okay,
you knew he was gonna bring upthe hit cut. I want to
have you. I love it.I always wants to know who that coaches.
He doesn't have to gu you've learnedthat this is second year. You
never know. Jason, you're movinglesser. Yeah, if you looked on

(01:18:38):
your notes, you can see hewon last year. Yes, sir,
right there, Jason, the guyhe just met, Jason, you did
this, Yes, Jason didn't hedo? It was twenty nine to six.
Look at him looking at me.It's it's the coach is second year
at Central. That's correct. Butyou can see that, Yes, sir,
Yeah, we're excited about I takeit over, coach. What's what's

(01:19:00):
gonna be cool? It's it's youthleague night downe at the Guard Friday,
so like all of our youth leaguesand just messing in the area, you're
gonna be there. So we're firsthome game, so it's gonna be you're
bringing them into the game. Igot you. Our youth league teams around
around are coming. Yeah. Sothat's that's a big exciting cheer the little
cheerleaders and all that stuff will begoing on. So you know it'll be

(01:19:23):
it'll be a big night, bighope. You know we're playing on having
a big crowd. So Friday nightat seven o'clock, Well, you're bringing
them, you know, you gotat least two more. Yeah, he's
grandparents. I'm all about that.Yeah, you gotta get as many in
there as you can get. Yeah, that's absolutely all right. Coming back
playing at home, you're on theroad. Talk about playing in the Guard.

(01:19:43):
How important that is. I meanlast year it was huge for us.
No, we were able to,you know, win every game at
home. You're letting the regular seasonas far as lass, so I mean,
that's that's a big deal. Playingat home. Our our kids understand
that, and coaches understand and thecommunity doesn't job of supporting us. So
you know, we're excited about beingat home. And like I said,
it's I think it's gonna be somegood weather. I think it's gonna cool

(01:20:06):
off a little bit. So Ithink you know we're expecting the big crowd.
You should have one coach. Hewent to the Bowl and played extremely
well. Uh, you've been comingoff at ten and two season. I
was trying to see when you lastlost that game, y'all excuse me,
central Clay was later in the year. I was thinking it was earlier in
the year when you lost it.But only one game. All right,
coach, anybody else you want tobring up? I know that music already
come No, I know. Hey, look he's gotta learn to look.

(01:20:27):
We get a little bit another minutea half, okay, I mean Wallace
didn't give a thirty s. Sowhat about your young ones? You ate
uh volleyball for me? One lastnight at TA they started off about football.
What position does your daughter she's uhstarts with she's stay lobart. Oh

(01:20:49):
he's got me on that coach,so he see he's coach. I don't
know, man, where's a differentuniform? Right? She does? She
does? And cub and junior day. I can't. I always come to
see him. Good to see Lookhe's looking at me like what you mentioned
in my name, coach, andhe's texting his leg the this year's go.

(01:21:11):
You gotta tell me who the queenis? By last year, I
got you? Did I know you? I know you. That's Borguard Hornet's
looking to go to it, Oh, Dicky brown Field Hornet Stadium. Friday
night. We're gonna take a break. We're gonna come back and talk with
Smitty Grinder of Benjamin Russell High Schoolcoaches over presented about it. What's Peter
Clinton? Continue and we're back atmost Barbeq, Bent Creek and Auburn.

(01:21:34):
We're here every Wednesday night. Youknow what I didn't get the cub.
What'd you have to eat? Buddy? What'd you have to eat? Wings?
Another? Wings? Geez? Wingskill him? Coach. Smitty Grider
joins us, Benjamin Fish. That'sBungo, a different one right there,
Catfish. It's good ten weeks ina row. And you know what you

(01:21:54):
got that w last week. Soyou're gonna keep eating. Good to see
coach Grider. Good to see youMark, If sir, are you doing
man? Doing good? How aboutyour coach Growder? We go so far
back, Man, you're one ofthe I got so many coach scores I
look at on Friday, you wouldn'tbelieve the you know, I just I
sent the group text all the coachescongrat you know, good luck this week,
because I was gonna send everybody oneanyway, so I just sent it
in the group. Do you knowwhat I'm saying. I was like,
good luck to everybody. So Itry to get all my coaches on Friday.

(01:22:15):
It's like a hundred of them thatI like to send good luck to.
Don't ever be in a championship game. Oh my good, any except
before the game's over. If yousee a tech for more never never never.
He's telling about when I tast coachwine garden and oh and then you'll
never let me live that down,Like you weren't the only one I know
he told me. But let metell you something. To his credits and
someone gonna He called me after thatgame and said, look it's okay because

(01:22:38):
he knew I'm look through agony forit. But anyway, excellent win last
week for you, coach. Congratulations. Well, okay, it was we
didn't play especially well, but itwas we played well enough to win,
so that's all it matters. Youknow, Well, you get those wis
when you don't play good. Coach. It was forty to nineteen over we
Tompka. You know if you ifyou play bad and you won, hey,

(01:23:00):
good for you, you know what. I yeah, I mean it
was we we did some good things, mark on both sides of the ball,
but special teams was a difference inthe game. Really. We they
fumbled the oak and and kickoff andwe punch it in and then we block
two punts and uh, you knowthat was kind of kind of got us
a little cushion on him and wewere able to maintain it and win the
game. Their quarterbacks a great player. Man, he had a good night,

(01:23:23):
c JC. You get a talkto JC. Good. I saw
j C before the game and after. He's doing a great job. Yeah,
I'm proud of him. I'm veryproud of him. All right,
you got to be proud of yourteam, coach. Another good win and
one and oh after the forty nineteenwin. This is an important game Central
Clay as your next one h thirtythree fourteen. Last season, this was
when we kind of was like,oh, you know, so they for

(01:23:44):
real down there and Russell, wellthey for real up there in Clay County.
Coach. Now, they don't lethim fool you ever telling you he
doesn't have a good football team,because they do. They're good, They're
well coached as always, they're physical. Well, they do what they do.
Man, those kids believe in whatthey do. They believe they're gonna
win every game they go out thereand we're gonna have to play well man,

(01:24:08):
they they they're gonna be hard todeal with. They've got a good
football team. Well, I don'tdoubt it. Coached a year in and
year out. What about you?You you kind of talked last week.
You had a very emotional week.I could tell it in you last week.
Coach. Nobody like, look,I didn't even know the young man,
and it bothered me. Does thatmake sense? Just don't like that's
still hard to you know, yeah, you know when a young kids,
man, that's always difficult even tohear about it. And then the yes,

(01:24:30):
exactly and you don't even know him, But go ahead, all the
y. Yeah, we we ourkids. Uh, we didn't know we
had There was six or seven ofthem that really had a tough week and
uh but you know this has beena more normal week this week, so
hopefully that'll make a difference. Butyou know, it was. It was
hard on the kids. I'm proudof them for the effort they put in.
Friday night, they the stadium fieldcrew had had his name. I'm

(01:24:55):
gonna had his initials and his numberon the field for them. Good for
them, you know, it was. It was an emotional night for a
lot of a lot of people asparents were at the game, mom's stepfather
and uh, you know, Idon't know that I could have done on
either, coach, I don't know. Hats off to them for being there.
Amen, you know it was realemotional. But uh, you know,

(01:25:15):
I'm glad that week is behind us. Hopefully our kids learned something through
it, not just the tragedy, but just how to handle tragedy and how
to keep moving forward and not getlost in it and uh and deal with
it, because that's how life is. It hits your heart and ben't expected.
Right. You know, you stillgotta go to work and you still
gotta you know, feed your family, and you still gotta take care of

(01:25:39):
your family, and there's things youstill have to do no matter you know,
situation. And hopefully they'll learn fromthat, and they'll learn learn from
the fact that nobody's promised tomorrow, and they'll they'll they'll make sure their salvation
is where it needs to be.How they put their faith in Christ.
And uh, don't wait, that'sa good thing, that's right, coach.
And another good thing is they diddo what they resilient. It was

(01:26:00):
the word I'd say. They cameback Friday and looked like they put on
a good show. Got that wDanny Horn All, I ain't goodness.
I mean, this guy's gonna probablytire with him. I don't even know
a bunch and he's got a bunchof wins. Every year he wins one
before the season he talks about howbad at him. Yeah, I can
see, you know, I'd hateto see him when he had a good
time. Coach, Remember what aboutcoach Coach Ross that night up there Ben

(01:26:25):
Elex CD, he did it.I was like, coach, if you
ever won a game, it waslike, dang man, I feel sar
for you. Well, he's gota good football team and they'll they'll be
a factor in five A this year. Uh you know, so we're gonna
out to play and they're gonna befired up. You know they you got
him last year, they're gonna bethey made him that for the first time
in a few years, and they'recoming down here and get the one little
paid back. And our kids thatneed to be ready and need to be

(01:26:47):
ready mentally for the kind of gameit is. This is gonna be a
fight in a phone booth, andthis is not gonna be seven on seven.
So you know, we challenged himall week, especially our defensive offensive
fronts that you know, this isa man on man game Friday night.
This is ain't gonna be nothing fancy, and uh, you know you better
better bring you your lunch pail andyour hard hat and be ready to go

(01:27:10):
to work. Coach, I agree, if you had a good week coming
off, it's been you know, weather got us Monday. It never really
storm, but the lightning stuff wasa little too close to get on the
field, so we had to goin the gym. And then uh but
yesterday and the day we're good days, we got out got full practices in
and uh, you know, hopefullywe'll get another one in tomorrow our Thursday
run through and we'll be ready toplay. It's been a better week for

(01:27:33):
practice. I'll say that games atthe Sports Place. We're at home seven
o'clock. You don't need a bigcrowd or anything. I always love a
big crowd. We had a greatcrowd this past Friday, and hopefully they'll
keep building. Coach were go fan, go fan, go fan, don't
change. Hey, we sold onehundred and eighty eight tickets. That's what

(01:27:54):
I'm talking. Hey, they wantto line up and pay that cash.
Come on bringing in coach Riding.Good to see you, buddy. That's
the bank rushing outcasts one and oldlooking to go to an old break from
the Coaches Show presented by the OrthopedicClinic. We're gonna come back and we're
gonna talk with Smith Station. Welcomeback to Moe's Barbecue High School Coach Show.
We could sit here and talk withthis guy for a while. Uh,
we're more rolling right along. Ourshow is presented to by the Orthopedic

(01:28:15):
Clinic. Will be here every Wednesdaynight, six to eight Central on Fox
Sports. The Game. In nineteenthirteen ten and ninety seven point seven kicker
FM Smith Station coach John Wiley,Well that sounds unique, John, Coach
Wiley is good to see you, man, Yeah, good to be here.
Yes, sir, first year atSmith Station. I mean, were
you at Central before two years? Two years? And before that out in

(01:28:36):
California, out in California and beforethat Auburn Opelika, he was a dog
and nays and coach? All right, your son graduated last year year,
Yes, sir, he's a forcedeconomy awesome. Awesome. Do you have
one left? I have a daughterwho's a freshman. Awesome? Okay,
all right, tough week last week, Coach Pleasant Grove fifty four fourteen,

(01:28:57):
John, uh So, what areyou? Coach? Office coordinator? He
told us that oc. He toldme that one he takes. Okay,
So a little bit about last weekand then we'll go into Central. Look,
it's kind of expected from last week, so nothing really was kind of
shocking. We have to understand thesituation that we're in this year. We
started four sophomores on the line offensiveline guys getting their first opportunity to start.

(01:29:23):
Our quarterback was the first time hehad to start our biggest thing now
is that we have to take eachweek, each game, each snap and
try to get better East as wego out and try to develop for the
future, and not saying that we'renot trying to play for now, but
we have to have an understanding. It's like, it's not about wins,
it's it's about trying to develop aculture there. It's trying to be able

(01:29:44):
to get the guys to understand thatthey're capable of a winning and how do
we develop them. All Right, you play in a very good program in
Central and this is a supposed tobe a rival at Smith Station at one
one in quite a while. Iknow, you know that. I remember
a lot of coaches say you gottawin that game, talk about playing Central
coach after coming off a tough loss. Well, you know, as you
say, it's like we're going againsta whole bunch of four stars and five

(01:30:05):
stars and we have to convince ourguys that they put their pants on one
leg at a time, just likewe do. So we're approached at we
don't need to get so, youknow, and am or by that team.
And again we got to just goout and do like take one stap
at a time and see what happens. We just can't let the game get

(01:30:28):
out of hand, you know,we want to be into the game going
into the second half. How youdo that? How you? How you
do that? Well? If Itold you that, I think I would
kind of tell you someone our secrets, so I kind of keep that to
myself. I hear you, Ihear y'all made progress? You think so
far? Are you making progress?I guess I should say. People always
at WAP and go to Smith Station, and I truly believe that there's talent

(01:30:51):
that I truly always believe that.I think they've had some leave too,
but go ahead. And that's thething. You know, there's a lot
of kids or a leaving Smith Stationgoing to other high schools that's within the
area. So our first thing isthat we got to make sure that we
stay grounded within Smith Station can helpa connection with them. I don't know

(01:31:12):
this to be true, but Iheard that our two starting tackles last year
from at Central. We're homegrown atSmith Station. So if that is true,
we're losing people to different high schoolsand we need to keep those guys
there, and that's going to beour biggest challenge. How do we keep
guys at Smith Station. How dowe build that program from our youth program

(01:31:35):
to our seventh grade to our eighthgrade team, and we keep those guys
there. So I'm really optimistic aboutthe future. Coach Garrison is excited about
being there. I'm so happy thathe asked me to come over and join
his staff. He has a truebelief in the system and developing and I'm
on the same page as him.Let me chase him. If you're able

(01:31:58):
to do all that, you'll besuccessful little there, because you know,
I talked about it every time somebodycomes in. You gotta eat calls.
Put the border up, don't putthe border walld up, get those that
are gone. Just don't let anybodyelse go. And you're not going to
school in the States to do that. Coaches had to do that. But
you're right, You're exactly right. So many gray areas, But this is
the one thing that that has shockedme since I've been back, and I'm

(01:32:24):
speaking from the past. We neverwanted to leave and go play anywhere,
you know, But you're right, you were open like a bulldog all you.
We didn't want to and then wethought about it. And then to
come back here and see how manykids are leaving from one school to go
to another school. I don't getthat. That is the thing that still
bath with me. You're right now, it's like you just was at this

(01:32:45):
school last year, and now you'reat another school, and then probably in
the next year you're gonna be atanother school. Right, They're like transferring.
It's so it's like the uh youknow, I mean transfer port transport
when I supposed to refer to that, like you all right, mom and
dad would have went went to thegame and watched you sit on the bench.
John's right, he was op.I mean coach. I wouldn't have
moved the person, right, You'dhave had to make it, coach,

(01:33:09):
or you wouldn't have been there.You're you're, you're, you're. Folks
said you're gonna sit there. You'renot gonna We're not gonna help him go
somewhere else. So I'm glad you'reat Smith's. Uh, it's good to
see you, sir. Help tohave you back because I had your old
high school coach on this one coachin the house. He's still golfer every
day, Yeah, every day.Where that now, since you know he's
an open since Pine Crossing. Ohyeah, he's everywhere everywhere. Good to

(01:33:32):
see you, John. We're gonnahave that Blue Devil coach right behind you,
all right, John, Sir,Yes, sir, Smith Stations Central.
Let's flip over another sucker, BlueDevil's coach. Good to see you
tonight, are you too, Yeah, we're going. We're good to see
you John. We're rolling in andout, all right, coach. Uh,
let me get my sheet up here. We're talking your young ladies over
there. It's good to see hertoo. She as well behaved, coach.
There's no doubt about it, allright. Last week twenty eight six,

(01:33:54):
let's talk a little bit about Lynnette. Uh, it was a tough
game. Give me your thoughts andthen we'll go to well, you don't
have a game, we can takeit easy one to talk about. We
played a physical, uh, veryathletic team. I think they scored all
today the other points in the firsthalf. I think we settled down a
little bit in the second half.We left a lot of points on the

(01:34:15):
board, but I think that comeswith just that being the first game.
So this week we've been actually geta chance to work out a lot of
those kinks. So uh, Ithink with uh this by a week and
uh next week, I think we'llbe ready to uh go, Yeah,
you know next game. I'm surea tough game. It was. It
was a tough game. You playeda very good team too, sir,
and you know it's always difficult whenyou play that. Talk about this week,

(01:34:41):
you're talking about getting better. Howhas this week been? And it
doesn't seem like our coaches have talkedabout the heat a lot this week.
Although it's been hot, it ain'tbeen like definitely wasn't like it was last
week. So we've been able touh well this but Monday it was just
a film day and today, Imean yep, Tuesday and today we were
able to get out on to feela little bit and uh trying to get
some conditioning. Then we saw inthe game last week. I know it

(01:35:04):
was hot, but we've kind ofseen our guys kind of getting a little
tired. So it was our focusis this week just trying to get some
condition in, trying to get ourguys ready to go. Oh uh,
that's just been our focus this weekend. Like I said, just kind of
working on the small things and smalladjustments. We needed to make and I
think we we were starting to workout a lot of those kinks and I

(01:35:25):
think we'll be ready. Who you'replaying two weeks because you gotta talk with
it, That's what I was thinking. Yeah, yeah, yeah, if
you have a week off, yeahso yeah, so all right, coach,
good to see you too. Thanksfor being your buddy. Good luck.
Yeah, okay, sweetheart, youknow who your daddy is. We'll
take a break up black a wodalkex speaking when we come back. Thanks,
coach, appreciate come back to MolesBarbecue. About to wrap it up.

(01:35:51):
Jeff and I and Jason are here. Coach Eric Speakman joined this.
Coach is good to see you tonight. On what was it mean you coach?
What you order? Catfish? Griffindid Ribs, Ship did wings one?
We got a little bit. Wingsis the head. Oh yeah,
wins are good here now it mustbe everybody is good to Catfish is good
some of them. It's always good, all right, coach. Last week,

(01:36:12):
tough loss at the Bowl that youtalk about a little bit, and
then we'll move to yeah, yeahit was. It was a tough loss.
Good team goodh obviously Thompson just youknow, picking up where they left
off. Game was twenty three thirteenthere in the third or fourth quarter,
and uh then they rilled off threetouchdowns that we couldn't answer. So good
learning experience. Coach Atterors and Iwere just talking about and Smitty, we're
talking about just playing good people tostart out the year. You kind of

(01:36:34):
find out who you are. Sowe found out some kids could play,
and then we actually were you know, found out a few of them that
we thought maybe could play, maybeneed a little more work. So that
was good, all right, goodto find out. Good deal. All
right. Uh, we're heading thisweek back to the Baltimore and I back
to the ball former Jeff Davis fodgo there. Did you make it through
without injuries? We did? Yeah, nobody nobody seen, Yeah, nobody

(01:36:56):
that was that will be out.Uh, you know from that game,
which is huge because that was sucha physical game. It was good,
hard hitting, clean game though, but you know that I think we had
one personal foul and that was it, you know, and it was a
it was a semi late hit, just kind of a little shove after a
play, so you know, nothingnothing he score down there on the right,
I thought he did. Yeah,I thought he did. Official it

(01:37:18):
was hard to tell. I guess. I guess if you were reviewing it,
you might could have gotten it overturned. About that. We were sitting
up there and coach Barfield said,I think he said I did too.
Yeah, I thought he And thenthey never made a signal they wouldn't do
anything. He didn't he put hisfoot down that I couldn't tell. And
I'm trying to down on this. We're trying to find out it did score
were supposed to are we supposed togo for? You know, were kicking

(01:37:42):
and they wouldn't And I find hefinally, you know, he pointed,
yeah, finally pointed down play.I wasn't thinking about it, I asked,
because he made such a good run. I'm like, let him go.
I mean, like, you know, I think we're talking about it
was Roman, Yeah, Roman,Yeah I caught the ball and yeah,
I thought it looked like it did. Anyway, we scored, all right,

(01:38:09):
So talk a little bit about Jack. What you gotta do? Yeah,
yeah, I go over there andplay better than we did last week.
Uh, you know, we gotto pick up you know, the
good things that we did last week. We to keep doing those and then
you know, not have penalty. We have too many pre snap penalties that,
yeah, we can't do that.Yeah, it's first and fifteen against
a great defense. You're not youcan't overcome that. And uh, you

(01:38:29):
know we had a couple holds, and holds are part of the games.
That's no big deal. But youknow, the I guess probably the biggest
penalties were the ones that put usfirst and fifteen. Yeah, I mean
it's just, yeah, you can'tdo the things that are before and after
the whistle if it happens during theplayoffs part of it. But so we
got to fix that and you know, not turn it over. Uh,
you know, kicking game. We'rebetter than them in the kicking games,
so we gotta make sure we don'tdo anything there to to hurt ourselves.

(01:38:53):
They gave up a lot of pointslast week in the kicking game to Faith,
so uh that and just keep gettingbetter. You know, we we
played a lot of kids last week, so uh so we were able to
to find out, you know, put some kids on film that that uh,
you know, you you want totest and test early to find out
if if through these eight Reagion gamesthat they can play for you and help
you so many times and people said, who is Jack coach? It's all

(01:39:15):
the time. Yeah, we JeffDavis. Jeff Davis. It's real.
It's gonna take a while before peoplecome. I mean they're gonna be wearing
Jeff Davis, you know, becauseI only think that. I think they
waited so long it did that toeven pick the colors and everything that you
can't I mean, you we orderednew red ones this year. We had
to order them in December, yougo for the season, Yeah, to
have them guaranteed for the season. So anyway, so we'll go over there

(01:39:38):
and play a team that looks likeJeff Davis, and it's probably the kids
still want to be Jeff Davis. But that's the side of the point.
So you're right, just yeah,we got to just go over and play.
Well a short week, which isnot too bad early in the year,
you know, because you you don'thave a lot in right now.
Anyway. Uh So we we keptit real simple and let's let's improve on
what we did last Friday and andget rid of some the stuff that we

(01:40:00):
didn't do very well. Do youone of those that think first week second
week being imped I guess who Iguess Bear Bryant said that one time and
kind and it sticks. So Imean, you better, you better get
better, I think. I thinkprobably the biggest thing is you find out
really quick kind of where you are, and then so by the next week
you should you should be better.Well he played good, Well I thought
he would have played better. Yeah, like that, that kind of thing,

(01:40:21):
and then by week five or sixyou kind of know where they are
and you know you're not going tomake a huge improvement game. Yeah.
Eight, we have eight reading games, so every other than than the Theodore
game, now, every game counts. Yeah, yeah, that's very important,
especially with the number of teams wegot in this realident and only four
go ye as we found out lastyear. Right, so we got an
eighth and seventh grade down here playinguntil you'll left in my right. Yeah,

(01:40:43):
they're playing at the duck. Iknow the seventh grade one. Okay,
don't know the eighth grade score.Ninth grade played tonight. They were
nothing, nothing with a grange athalftime, but good defensive battle and I'm
sure they that game should be overby now, but I'm not sure.
Win the flag. We beat Valleyand Flag all tonight. So those girls
one. I think it was likethirty five to nothing. So good deal.
Yep, good week, good week. Thanks for being here, Thank

(01:41:05):
y'all, Thank y'all for waiting onus. Well, no, thank you
for coming. I appreciate it.You boys didn't get the talk, but
yeah, I told him night.Let's see okay, all right, thank
