Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, this is the first segment of the High School
Coaches Show, our fifth of the season. We're gonna start
out today with coach Adam Hunter from Valley High School.
Good afternoon, coach. How are you, Jeff?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm good?

Speaker 3 (00:09):
How you, buddy man?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Before we get started, then we're coming to you line
from Moe's Original Barbecue. It's brought to you by the
Orthopedic Clinic and Gory's Furniture Express. Pammy Jimmy Gorey, So
coach last week Central Clay County, let's talk about We'll
talk about that one just briefly. Okay, you lost the game,
we won't, you know, just tell us about that one.
A lot of people loseing this team, right, That's right.

(00:31):
They're very good.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
I think everybody in our region is gonna be going
after them. You know, I think they're top of the
region right now, you know, anytime you go there. And uh,
I thought that we started off playing pretty decent. You know,
I thought we got after a pretty good you know,
we rock.

Speaker 5 (00:45):
On and made some mistakes.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
They got up, had a chance to hold them to
about fourteen to nothing at halftime, and we gave up
a late score touchdown with about twenty seconds left, so
they go up twenty one and nothing, you know, and
we just never we never bounced back second half. And
you know, once you get down of them, they they're
a pretty good football team. They're they're well coached, they're
going to.

Speaker 6 (01:04):
Do everything right.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
And you know, we we gave up some big plays
the second half, and you know, just some misalignment stuff
and I think we kind of got sloppy on.

Speaker 5 (01:12):
The back end of that.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
And and you know, playing there is it's really tough,
you know, going there and playing and you know, we've
had to play there with the way the schedule failed
this year with realignment, we had to go back there
again this year. So we played back to back years
at there on the road. So you know, it's a
tough envibor to play in. But I think our kids
bounced back in the off week this past week with

(01:34):
last week, I should say, because we were off last week.
I thought they bounced back when we had you know,
good practice. We had three really good practices during our
off week. I thought the kids really responded well to that.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
All right, let's clarify this. Now, you played this was
two weeks last week. You were open, Yeah, we were
last week, So you did have a good week of
practice last week. This week been leading up to the
game against Hand.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
You know, it's one of our better weeks of practice.
I think we had really three good, solid days of
practice this week. Our kids bounced around well. I think
we got better at some some things that we needed
to do a better job, especially outside linebacker. We didn't
play very well at that position against Clay Central, so
I think we really looked at that and kind of
honed in on that and really worked hard on you know,
setting the edge and stuff like that defensively. And then

(02:15):
you know, we added some wrinkles this week of what
we're gonna do offensively, some things hopefully that's gonna help
us be more dynamic and stuff. So, you know, I
think our kids are ready to play again. You know,
I think that's the main thing. You come off of
got that cyberchaste in your mouth from play Central, and
then you have an off week, and our kids are
ready to get back on the field and play, and
our coaches are too. We're ready to see how we
bounce back as far as getting on the field.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
All right, this is a Regian game. Marlbury coach oh
and four. What do they do well?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
They get I think their kids play really hard. They
got a quarterback back there that likes to run the
football a lot. He's a tough nose.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
Running trd nose running.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
You know he's gonna he's gonna take care of the football.
He doesn't make many mistakes. And their kids play hard.
They come off the football hard.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
They they can be a team that if you don't
play really good, they can really hurt you.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
So you know, we've got to take this game. It's homecoming.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
We can't get distracted. We got to go out there
and we got to play. Uh and we got to
play for four quarters. That's every week now. You know,
I don't think you look at our schedule. You can't
look ahead anybody, and we don't play anybody this just
you know that you're gonna win that game.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
We got to play.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
You know they're gonna be well coached, They're gonna be
in position to make plays. We got to make plays
as well.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
And you finish to hit amen corner in October, coach,
where you got Silicaga, Emore, County Hope and bore Guard
before your last game against David, which is the non
region game of course, the uh Mary, what defensively? How
are they defensively? Yeah, I'm gonna tell you now, they
give up a lot of points they have. I'll say this.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
You know, I think they've got they've got some guys
up front that come.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Off the football.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
They play well, uh defensive line wise, they they play
with their hands, you know, and they run to the football. Well,
I think they've given up big plays is what's hurt
them defensively. You know, I think they've made teams drive
the field sometimes, but then they've given up some big plays.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
This kind of hurt. So you know, we've given up
some big plays.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
It's hurt us.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
So you know, it's it's we got to go out
there and play. We gotta we got to protect the football. Offensively,
we can't get behind the chains.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, the health wise coach did that week help? Did
you have some guys banged up? Everybody's got him nicked up?

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Yeah, we're banged up.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
We got a couple of you know, we've we've held
our corner out this week and last week he's he's
got a kind of a almost a mid ankle spraining.
I wouldn't say it's really a high ankle spring. He's
been banged up a little bit. He hasn't gone, but
he's the only one that we've kind of held out
so far.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Is he going to be ready for this one?

Speaker 5 (04:28):
It's gonna be a game time decisions.

Speaker 6 (04:30):
I say this.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
He hasn't taken many snaps this week. You know, he's
just he's he's kind of tender on it. We've kind
of held him out right now.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
So okay, so other than that, we're good to go.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
You know, he's the only one that's kind of banged
up right now.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Did you know this? Y'all are five and oh against
Marbury all time?

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Is one of my coaches was saying that.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Okay, so you know he mentioned that that matters, right,
Hopefully it'll be six and those.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
So you know, you know, it's always good waking up
on a Saturday after winds.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Probably y'all gonna be their toughest competition so far this year.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Yeah, we should be, you know, we we just we
got to take care of our says. We got to
get better, that's the main thing. We got to get better.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Well, they're averaging scoring nine nine in a quarter points
a game. Uh, but they're getting up like almost thirty eight. Yeah,
so and you all team that can score a lot
of points.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We can.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
We can, which, like I said, we can't get behind
the chains. We got to play in front of them
and take care of the football.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I don't know what the spread is, but if it was,
I tell you so make sure you do. Coach. Is
good to see you, Coach Adam Hunter with Valley High School.
We'll be back up next. We'll be least got academy.
Welcome back to the High School Coaches Show. We'll coming
to you live from O's Original Barbecue, brought to you
by the orcer p de Clinton see me and Pam's furniture. Yes, Rius,

(05:44):
you can listen to us on Fox Sports the Game.
Now you know what this is. I'm taking over your segment.

Speaker 7 (05:48):
Well it over, coach, but you are, and you're doing it. Man,
you're doing a pretty good job. You just forgot the
most important part, which.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Is welcome to the most exciting eight minutes.

Speaker 7 (06:00):
Wow, that's not really the look we were expecting from that,
but we are excited to be at the High School
Coaches Show. We're at Mode's Original Barbecue, and we'd like
to thank the Orthopedic clinic. We'd like to thank Gory's furniture.

Speaker 6 (06:13):
And you know we can hear us on.

Speaker 7 (06:14):
Fox Sports A game Kicker The Kicker w kk R
ninety seven seven. And yes, that is still Lee County's
best country. So we're excited to be here, mister sas
it is Ma, it's.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Always a pleasure to see coach. Last week Silicaga, you
had to go to Silicaga. Was it did the rain
stay away?

Speaker 7 (06:33):
Okay, we're knocking on wood because were sitting at the
wooden table. But we have been like crazy blessed the
last two weeks with all the rain around us. I
think it started raining maybe the last two minutes of
the game, which at that point we were just just
getting you know, just trying to finish things out. So
you were at that time, yes, yes, but the rain

(06:54):
didn't affect us. It was breezy. Were really winny to
start with. But I mean, as far as playing football,
it was great weather.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Hey, Silicago, you know, go over that game just a
little bit. We talked about the weather, and let's talk
about the game.

Speaker 7 (07:06):
I thought that our kids played really hard kind of
We had some really explosive plays again early in the game, offensively,
and then we were able to uh, you know, just
make some big stops on defense, had some turnovers that
resulted in points. Really the backbreaker. We had a little
two minute drill right for the half and scored to
you know, put us up a few scores right for

(07:28):
the half, and then second half just kind of rolled.

Speaker 8 (07:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Okay, all right, this week Elmore County, Elmon County three enough,
undefeated in the region. It's a region game.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
Comes Kyle, Kyle Carwell this he's y'all about the same.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Tenure his schools, You.

Speaker 7 (07:44):
Right, I think so. I think I know he's been there.
I think my first year at board Guard he was
not there. I think that was the previous Okay, okay.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
So they're averaging about thirty points a game and the
only averaging given up less than eight about seven and
a half. Let's talk about that bunch.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Coach.

Speaker 7 (08:01):
Hey, man, I know offensively, I can talk about them.
Excuse me, yeah, I can talk about them offensively. They
run the football. I'm in their big run run over
in the team. I think since Kyle's been there, that's
kind of been their staple. They're up front. They got
to do a really good job with their offensive lineman.
They got a big tight end.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (08:19):
They kind of play a multitude of guys at running back,
kind of rotate guys in and out. But for us, man,
we gotta be stop, we gotta be start to run
because that's that's kind of what they hang their hat on,
you know. And they do a good job of it,
do a good job of formation and to get get
an advantage. And then and then they and they're okay
with snapping it with three or four seconds left on

(08:39):
that play clock and slowing the game down and you know,
just kind of you know, getting in kind of trying
to control the tempo of the game. So we've got
to do a good job since at home it's kind
of establishing our tempo of how we want to play.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Right, all right, Coach Wallace. Offensively, so excuse me.

Speaker 9 (08:55):
On defense, those hey shout out to Mo's those smoke.

Speaker 10 (08:58):
Wings are and that's a good deal.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
Thanks, cat me choked up.

Speaker 9 (09:02):
But uh yeah, so defensively, man, they got some kids
that really the greatest compliment you could pay a high
school football player is that they just play with such
great effort.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Man, they get after it.

Speaker 9 (09:12):
They got guys on the field that's been like two
or three year starters. So they've, like Coach Jones told
our kids today, they've just they've got a lot of
Friday night reps and it shows they're in the right spot,
playing with great effort and doing what they're supposed to do.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
So we have our work.

Speaker 11 (09:24):
Cut out for us up front to get these guys blocked.

Speaker 9 (09:27):
But uh, you know that's what we're going up there
to do or or they're coming here to allow us
to do. So Uh, I feel good about it. We
just got to do what we're supposed to do and
handle our business.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yeah, only your second home game. You are excited about
being at home.

Speaker 8 (09:39):
For Oh, no doubt man?

Speaker 7 (09:41):
Last coon man was it was awesome, got you know,
got new, some new additions to the stadium and makes
makes a lot really cool atmosphere that goes on.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Uh who played well for you last week? Cook? Uh?

Speaker 9 (09:52):
I mean offensively, it was the first time really in
the four games that we were balanced.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
I mean we rushed for uh.

Speaker 9 (10:00):
Hundred and eighty two yards and through for two hundred
and two So like you know, uh, to me, if
you if you're able to do both that you get
really hard to stop. So could Jaydon Holloway are a
little run up senior running back. He end up with
one hundred and forty two yards and the two scores.
Cub Jones had another nice game. He ended up throwing
for two and and actually rushed for a touchdown this week,

(10:22):
so he's he's actually becoming a dual threat type quarterback.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
Which were really excited.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
How far was the run?

Speaker 9 (10:28):
Well, it's probably about sixteen or seventeen yards, but he
did break through about three tackles on his way to
the gold line seat, So that was an added dimension
to nothing like, if you're scared enough, you run really fast,
and so he was. He was moving pretty.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Good lefensive side the ball. Who's playing well? Coach well?

Speaker 7 (10:49):
Up front, We've got some guys that are playing well.
Really are linebackers. Caleb Piner, I mean, Caleb plays well
every week. He plays every He plays well every day.
And that's if you could tell, I mean, if you
could pour that into every kid, just how he goes
about his business to night. Yeah, Friday night's just become
another day. That's another day that ends and wine for

(11:10):
him because he's he's just like that every day. He's
playing really, really good football. And then every week we've had,
you know, kind of a different guy in the secondary
step up. So I mean we've had, you know, we've
just got some guys playing really good football right now.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah, tell me about your punny yet a pretty good punter,
don't you we have?

Speaker 7 (11:29):
And the great thing about it, we hadn't had to
use him a lot the past couple of weeks. So
Jackson gaither should be really rested up. And I'll be honestly,
I think he's okay with punting. Punting a lot less
this week too, if it means winning football games. But again,
I think I've told y'all before he this year, he
he does. He's our holder as well, so for your
extra point field goals. So he's got to add a

(11:51):
dimension to his routine.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Every d got to play for him. Coach as a wholeer.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
Oh, there's always something up our sleeve.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
So and you ain't got to tell everything what you do.

Speaker 7 (12:00):
But now Jackson, I would say it is Jackson's athletic kid.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Now it's been a leave of gaysors come through boardgard
I don't know how many, and I don't think they all.

Speaker 6 (12:09):
Can who knows, so I only know I only.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Know Jackson Gaither. Okay, so I know a bunch of them.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
I got you, I got you so and.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
They all played at board. They may have played before.
You didn't have a Gayer before him. No, sir, are
they coming?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
They can?

Speaker 11 (12:25):
All right?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Well, coach, hey, good luck this week. This is tough game.

Speaker 7 (12:29):
It's gonna be it gotta be a packed house man
Friday night. That's the one I picked up to see, Oh,
we would love to have you come on. I picked
I picked one out every week, I got you Elimore
County and Boardgard is the one I.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Picked that'd be a good when to come. I think
I got some of my grandson. I mean I got
some family to be there too. You do, yep, So
I look forward to it. A good deal, good deal,
good luck, coach.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Gus Waller's good luck.

Speaker 8 (12:54):
Thank you.

Speaker 10 (12:54):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Let's go. Let's turn that into a four and one
after this week. Next week, y'all be four and one
three and own the region.

Speaker 7 (12:59):
Right that That's what we was for a big, great start.
That's what I want to say midway through the regular season.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
So al right, that's Borygard High School justin Jones and
Coach Wallace is the office coordinator. Up next is UH
Auburn High. If I get here, you listen to the
High School Coaches Show.

Speaker 10 (13:42):
I got the Wings.

Speaker 6 (13:43):

Williams Lafete Bulldogs Jeffrey Craig Jason. We we're on on
site here at MOSE. We are every Wednesday, sixth eighth
on iHeart Radio, Fox Sports, The Game and The Kicker.
Our show's presentity by the Orthopedic Clinic, Gory's Furniture, and
we are at Moles. And we appreciate all three of
those establishment sponsoring this show and making it possible. Right yeah,

(14:04):
Abs the Fat Bulldogs One Williams is the head coach.
They are two and two. They had a tough twenty
four to six lost to Poker.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Coach.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
We was always good to see you, buddy.

Speaker 12 (14:12):
Hey, great to see y'all.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Gentlemen.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
Yeah, I like your shirt. I haven't seen that one.
I don't think I like that. I would like a
gold one maybe, I mean like that, maybe a medium
coach I can handle that.

Speaker 12 (14:20):
Yes, sir, get you one. Then look in the back
of it.

Speaker 10 (14:22):
Look what has got.

Speaker 6 (14:23):
Protect the Oh yeah, protect the brand. I want me one.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Coach.

Speaker 8 (14:27):
I like that.

Speaker 6 (14:27):
It is nice. Good to see you. Coach talk a
little bit about playing poker last I mean yeah, yeah,
poke Poka twenty four to six. I said it right.

Speaker 12 (14:34):
Poker came in to the game.

Speaker 13 (14:38):
We felt we had a really good game plan, got
a couple of kids a little nicked up, but credit
to Poka, they had their kids ready, great game, you know,
twelve sixth in the third quarter.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
They scored late right there.

Speaker 12 (14:54):
On the fourth from the we'll go up to twenty
four in the fourth quarter. Proud of our kids for playing.

Speaker 13 (15:02):
Just gotta get better, got a score when had some
coach had some great things schemed up, and we just
we didn't execute.

Speaker 12 (15:10):
So we gotta execute.

Speaker 13 (15:12):
Gave up a couple of plays on defense that we
shouldn't with alignment and all that. But go back to
the drawding table and try to get better for the
next week.

Speaker 10 (15:19):
That's all you can do.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
Speaking up next week, Lynette, Coach, Friday night at Lynette,
third road game for your team, second week in a row.

Speaker 12 (15:28):
Yes, sir, it's the rivalry.

Speaker 13 (15:30):
You know, this is a game that you we don't
have to motivate our kids know their kids and vice versas.
Just getting ready to who comes out and play Phil.
It's gonna be a great game and we're gonna have
to be on our best to beat that beat them
at home. So they've got a good group crew down there.
Coach McDonald's does a great job with those guys, and

(15:51):
it's just you know, you throw out the record. I
think they're two and one and we're two and two,
and it's gonna be it's gonna be a good one.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
Well, it's a big reaging game, Jeff, I'll let you
come here, lynettees want to know in the region you
guys are owing to. It's a big, big game. You
gotta win this game, don't.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
You, Coach.

Speaker 6 (16:05):
I don't want to say must but it is big, yeah, big,
it's it's.

Speaker 13 (16:12):
You know, and we're we're fighting a lot of the
top dogs in off the top of we feel, but
this is yeah, this is gonna be a really big
game for us, and we're looking forward.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
For the challenge.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
You know your kids prepared this week, coach so.

Speaker 13 (16:25):
Far, yes, sir, Yes, sir, And back there doing it
right now as we speak. Really getting a lot of
a good staff now who is really just pouring into
these guys, and I appreciate a lot with all they do.

Speaker 6 (16:36):
Well, that's good. Having a late practice. I didn't realize
that you still got your same numbers out there, coach, Yes, sir,
well that's good. I asked give me some names. That's
been playing well for your.

Speaker 12 (16:46):
Coach, zeph and Iah Phillips. It's been playing great on
both sides for us.

Speaker 13 (16:55):
Te Quavius Gates has been playing great for us. Our
quarterback mar Harington has been stepping up to be young
as is for the first time. A lot of kids,
as you know, just not want to rule out anybody,
but everybody's been doing their job.

Speaker 14 (17:09):
You know.

Speaker 15 (17:10):
We can stay away from that injury bug.

Speaker 12 (17:12):
We'll be all right. You just gotta stay away from
an injury bug.

Speaker 6 (17:15):
And you don't. You don't have many players.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
To do it.

Speaker 13 (17:18):
And it's you know, you have two or three players
out of the week. You know, it kind of hurts,
but you know, it's football, and we're gonna get it.
We're gonna find a way to get it done.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
All right. Talk to me about your JV junior high teams, coach,
you've been able to play much.

Speaker 13 (17:30):
Yeah, they are two into one last night, the last
night at home. Those young guys practice hard with us
all week and then you know, it's it's great to
get to see them play their own game.

Speaker 12 (17:42):
So we've been a very appreciative of them. Like I said,
they won their last two.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
That's good. That's your that's your feet program.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yes, sir, it's a fifty fourth, mate, coach, fifty fourth when.

Speaker 6 (17:52):
You're on the battle of the l's and only one
eleven of.

Speaker 12 (17:57):
Them eleven forty one, ain't it?

Speaker 6 (17:59):
Eleven and one and one?

Speaker 12 (18:02):
Yeah, we that's on our that's that's on our board.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
You need to make it twelve.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
Coach.

Speaker 13 (18:08):
Agent just told them that today we need to change
the numbers on this this week. So yeah, that's the numbers.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
That's what we've been looking.

Speaker 10 (18:15):
Appreciate y'all.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
I'll be careful more down highway for you. Yes, as
far to go, but you still.

Speaker 12 (18:20):
Need to be Yeah, and I appreciate what y'all's got.

Speaker 6 (18:22):
Thank you, coach. We appreciate you for always showing up.
Means a lot, all right, Yes, sir one Williams. The
fat bulldogs in the house. We're going to take a break,
come back the guard the hornets when we come back
to most thankful. We are showing a show up.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Back to Mo.

Speaker 6 (18:41):
And my wrong coaches, you're right, all right, Mark and
Jeff and Jason Lee. We're back at Mose Barbecue High
coaches showing ninety seven point seven kicker off him and
Fox Sports the game nine ten thirteen ten not the
sucker Blue Devils. Time to talk, good evening, coaches, How
are y'all?

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Excuse me, it's good to see yall.

Speaker 6 (18:59):
Sorry bout test. Good to see you guys. Maplesville tough
match last week, coach, fifty one to twenty.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
A good football team, Yeah, yeah they are.

Speaker 8 (19:09):
It was.

Speaker 16 (19:09):
The game was actually a lot closer than that. That
school would have a lot to believe the score at
halftime is actually twenty one fourteen. Yeah, we were kind
of going back and forth for a minute, but it
looks like in that second half we kind of just
gave out of gas. We had some guys kind of
get banged up a little bit, and like I said,

(19:30):
it was it was Mapleville had close to maybe over
fifty kids over there.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
Almost played a big different numbers.

Speaker 16 (19:37):
Definitely played a big different So, like I said, our
guys predict just gave up, gave out of gas a.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Little bit in that second half. But we fought. We fought,
so that's good.

Speaker 6 (19:47):
That's good.

Speaker 14 (19:47):
That's all.

Speaker 6 (19:47):
You kind of when moved past that big Regie game
this week running on the road, Keith. Now, Keith, is
they only played one game?

Speaker 1 (19:54):
They wasn't one?

Speaker 6 (19:54):
Or did I am I? Or wait a minute, this
is a second meeting.

Speaker 8 (19:58):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
You're over at one against them, right, and we played
them in Yeah, nineteen to two.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Was that score?

Speaker 6 (20:03):
I'm sorry? All right, talk a little bit about this team, coaching, Keith.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Well, they want to run the ball at you.

Speaker 16 (20:10):
They go into like a wing tea set. If we
can get them to start coming out of there and
try to go in their little the two by two set.
I think we have them beat then, but they want
to try to run at you.

Speaker 6 (20:24):
Now, when you say two bout two, you mean splitting
it all out, spreading. They're two and two. They beat
Calhune ten to eight, lost to Dallas County fourteen to six,
lost the Rabena twenty two to six, and they beat
Elwood Christian last week twenty two six, So I can
see what you're talking about. They've been low scoring games though, yes, sir,
all of them do. They have a very good defense.

Speaker 16 (20:41):
Or defensively, they like I said, they want to try
to be physical.

Speaker 6 (20:46):
Yeah, did you say that? I was just curious.

Speaker 16 (20:49):
Yeah, they try to be physical. A lot of the
teams they they've kind of played. They they're not like
big offensive teams, so I think it might have been
more of that way. But if we if we take
care of business, we don't turn them all over, have
those turnovers, we should be able to come away with
this one.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
Yeah, Keith, I mean Keith is a region game, Yes, sir,
they're wanted one. I mean, excuse me, two and two
want and one in a reason. I was trying to
say one and in the region, but they're one and
one on one. So sir, you guys are owing to
it's kind of an important I'm gonna say, must mean,
but you really need to win it, don't you kept
very important.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
The guys understand it.

Speaker 16 (21:25):
Uh like today we did a we had a defensive
practice today, so uh yeah, they were locked in. They
understand how big the game is and they know that
they have to come in and try to get this one,
especially following it h on to in the region.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
But they understand it.

Speaker 16 (21:43):
They had a players only me today, so I think
they understand what's going on with I take right now.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
That's good. So you still got your same numbers. Everybody's
still in the house. In the house, keeping them out there.
That's what you're supposed to do.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Coaching.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
Anything else you want to bring up, anybody want to
mention it's been playing well. Some names, get some kids
names out coaching.

Speaker 17 (22:02):
Defensive wise, we had Isaiah Hurt, he's in the linebacker.
He had twelve tackles.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Uh.

Speaker 17 (22:09):
This past Friday also killed the Davis was big for
seven tackles, also interception and thez Fountain always show up
defense with seven tackles as well.

Speaker 18 (22:22):
Okay, we're going the offensive stats coaching h Walter Tatum
was big. We say his name, this is Walter Jacob
Walster Jacobs. I'm sorry, yeah, but uh nah, but he's
a table to walker, Walter Jacob tatle but last walks last.

(22:44):
But he had what eleven carries one hundred in eleven yards, so.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
He was big.

Speaker 16 (22:53):
He think he had three total touchdowns, so yeah, yeah,
he I think he scored all the he's junior's son.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, he's big.

Speaker 6 (23:04):
For are you'll able to plenty of JV or middle
school middle school games?

Speaker 16 (23:08):
You know, we actually had one yesterday right now we're
going to what they lost twelve zero yesterday.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Uh it was it was hard for all game.

Speaker 16 (23:17):
Uh but they're young, a lot of them just coming
from playing with the little league team, so they starting
to see that, you know, junior high football is a
lot different from.

Speaker 17 (23:27):
From the games faster a lot of seventh graders. Yeah, fire, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
I tried.

Speaker 16 (23:35):
We tried to sell him, was like, that's important y'all
to come to workouts during the summer because you're not
just playing the kids age now, they're playing up to
ninth grade and this.

Speaker 6 (23:43):
Point it is a good point and they played three together.

Speaker 16 (23:46):
Yeah, so so you gotta you gotta come in and
be ready to you know, put your work in if
you ready, really want to do this.

Speaker 6 (23:51):
Keep up the good work, guys. I'm appreciate what y'all do.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Y'all.

Speaker 6 (23:54):
Y'all have a good attitude and you're you're staying positive. Hey,
you gotta win and you got a good chance to
have another one this way on the road in we
need some folks go down and support you guys.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
Right, Oh, I know our band is uh.

Speaker 6 (24:05):
So that more parents that are traveling on the road
for four games. Yes, I was looking at this big
stretch right here, coach, a big stretch. Thanks y'all for coming.
Appreciate y'all being go blue. We're at mos High School
Coaches Show. We are rolling right along and I believe
we got the love fat bulldogs and we come back.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Yeah, and welcome back to the High School Coaches Show.
We're coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. It's
brought to you by the orth Petty Clint Glory's Furniture Express.

(24:47):
Up next to Southern Prep. We got coach Newman and
coach Reese offensive defense.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
That's both last week of Bangel Christian coach. That was
a Bangel Christian out of Montgomery. You wanna talk about
that game briefly? Not really, but uh well we need
to though.

Speaker 19 (25:04):
We came out flat first quarter, respawned a little bit.
Second quarter, we got it to twenty to or fourteen
to fourteen to twelve I.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Think it was.

Speaker 20 (25:15):
It was fourteen fourteen with ten seconds left.

Speaker 21 (25:18):
In the half.

Speaker 11 (25:19):
Kicked it deep and they returned it for a touchdown.
That's tough. That broke our back for the rest of
the game.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Okay, so that's uh, we'll put that one behind us.
We got Cornerstrong Christian another good defending state champion.

Speaker 11 (25:30):
Yeah, they ain't lost a game in two years.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
I don't think they lost a player either. I think
everybody back.

Speaker 6 (25:37):
Very good team.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
They last season on Strong one twenty eight to twenty.
Y'all played the prettyquick, is that right now? The last
year was like forty eight to fifty two. Yeah, it
was cool closed, Okay, all right, wall anyway, you guys
are winning three one and two in the region. You
got Cornerstone coming up this week. They're defending state champion.
They got everybody back. Let's talk what do we gotta
do to stop those guys.

Speaker 19 (25:58):
Offensively, We're gonna try to spread them out, use our
athletic athletic ability, spread the field out with speed. Defensively,
I mean defensively, I've I've I've got a system that
I'm going to use against them. And as long as
the players listen and we've had a great week of practice,
I don't think we've had this, could have a week

(26:19):
of practice all season, but best week you had, best
week for sure. I think after last week getting our
butts whooped and uh the way we did when that
game should not have gone like that. But I think
the players are more locked in and focused.

Speaker 22 (26:35):
So you know, as long as they like last week,
we had a game plan set out and worked on
it all week and practice looked good.

Speaker 20 (26:43):
Came game time didn't listen to anything we worked on
all week.

Speaker 22 (26:46):
So as long as we can, as long as we
can follow the game plan and each person on defense
does their assignment, I think we'll find.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
They know, does your team know who they're playing this week?

Speaker 8 (26:57):
They do.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
They know that they're the change, and they got everybody back.
They got it, They know they got a right now.
Probably the best I mean in eight man, the best
team in the state, said in ais Now, I don't
know that much about the Bangel Christian out of Alabasta
were usually pretty good too, So that's why I have
to every time I see evangel Christian, I look to

(27:18):
see is it Alabasta? Yeah, yes, Sir h Warnerstone, very
strong team. They whopped up on Springwood pretty good in
the championship game.

Speaker 8 (27:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (27:26):
They beat Springwood last week too, pretty good.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Yeah, so you got them this week, coach, What do
you got to do to stop them?

Speaker 20 (27:34):
Well, I've I've I'm doing something a little different.

Speaker 22 (27:37):
Uh we We've watched some film on them against Springwood
and uh Springwood, it first came out with something and
it didn't work, and so then they switched back into
a different defensive set and that worked a lot better.
So I'm gonna from watching the film and putting everything together.
I've got a plan that I've got in place, and

(27:58):
seeing how they were able able to stop the offense
a little bit better. And you know, their quarterbacks a
big runner. So having somebody that's fast and can be
a QB spy is going to be key and be
able to take good angles and make the tackle. So
I think we got that this week. And then being

(28:18):
able to stop the run. I mean, that's that's gonna
be the toughest thing. I mean we couldn't.

Speaker 20 (28:23):
I couldn't stop it against spring Wood, but this week.

Speaker 22 (28:26):
I mean I emphasize it every week, but you have
to meet the running back or the runner at the
line of scrimmage. And that's something that we struggle with.
We like to stay back and wait for them to
come to us, and that doesn't work.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
Well, you gotta you gotta travel win the Stone Birmingham.

Speaker 8 (28:41):
Right, it's in Birmingham.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Okay, So good luck coach, good luck for week. Anything
you want to add about this game that we hadn't
talked about, I think that well.

Speaker 19 (28:54):
No, I mean here's the kids know how much I mean,
it's not much love lost between us me bigs Aleics
Fringwood for us a big rival, so they're all that's
why they this week of pash is a good week because.

Speaker 11 (29:06):
They they know who we got coming up. So right,
hopefully we know we got there a good fight.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
Yeah, this is the game you need to win, coach.
You know all the you know the record, yeah, uh,
one in three but most supportably one to two. In
this getch you back even in the region, Yes, sir,
for in the region. Okay, so that's what camps. Hey,
good luck this week, Yes, coach Coaches, Sure, that's Southern
Prey up up next noticeable.

Speaker 23 (29:36):

You know, it adds up.

Speaker 6 (30:56):
I ain't seen the wife of the family yet. I
hope they know it.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
I'm owner.

Speaker 6 (31:00):
I don't know what's going on this Grider. We're waiting
on you.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Yeah, I just met your son at the Yeah.

Speaker 6 (31:05):
Media indicates, yeah, yeah, I've seen you.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
A little girl in here, your daughter, she.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
Came a lot last year.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
Yeah, yeah, I know.

Speaker 10 (31:12):
We gonna get them up here.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
All right. That's the good win. Last week fifty five
twenty one. Chilton County recapt that a little bit.

Speaker 24 (31:17):
Yeah, we we played pretty well Mark. You know, it
was fifty five to fourteen. They scored late off of
a scooping score with you know, the jvs out there.
But quarterback had a big night. He threw four touchdown
passes and ran one in so he was he, you know,
responsible for five touchdowns. Elijah Johnson's our quarterback.

Speaker 10 (31:39):
He's just getting better and better every week.

Speaker 24 (31:42):
He hooked up with Sedarian for three touchdowns in the
first quarter and kind of guide us out to a
good start and played well.

Speaker 10 (31:50):
Defense, played well.

Speaker 24 (31:51):
We gave up a couple of plays, you know, a
couple of flukey plays to get them their fourteen. But
thought our kids did what they needed to do. We
got to play a lot of folks, and uh, it
was a good.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
Night, good deal, coach, is always a good win when
you can play folks. You're sitting here at two and
two importantly two and oh in the region one of
those Wayne Newton games, coach, Spain Park three and oh,
I say you are two and o on in the
region yesterday, right, uh, two and over the region spain
Park one on the region three and oh you're going there,

(32:23):
big huge game ins Toe next on today.

Speaker 10 (32:25):
This is a big game.

Speaker 8 (32:26):
Yeah it is.

Speaker 10 (32:26):
You know, they're they're they're uh, they're really good.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (32:30):
You know, they beat Hoover.

Speaker 24 (32:32):
They're want to know, in the region and everybody's got
them peg you know, to win our region. Obviously, they're
dropping down from seven a and uh, you know, extremely
well coached team. They got really good players or quarterback.
I think he's a Clemson commit. You know, they got
a really good running back, big offensive line, all those things.
And then on the defensive side they're big inside and uh,

(32:52):
really sound well coached team. Uh that's one positive though.
You know, when you play somebody like that, you know
what you're gonna get. You know, they're gonna be well coached.
It's not gonna be some crazy stuff that you hadn't
prepared for. You know, there'll be some tweets obviously that
they'll do for this game, but you know what they
you know, hang their hat on and you can count
on that and you can count on people doing what

(33:13):
they're supposed to do. And that's sometimes that's an advantage.
You know, those teams that have a lot of wild
cards going on out there, they can kind of mess
you up sometimes.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Yeah, you're right, this team beat Hoover earlier. Coach, what
was that game like when you watched it?

Speaker 24 (33:26):
Well, you know, they hit Hoover with I mean, they
every they pulled off all they stops, many a couple
of trick plays. They threw a running back scene down
the middle for a touchdown. Hoover had a couple of turnovers.
It just everything went right for Spain Park and that
was a big win for them. That was a big
win for their coach. You know, that's a program maker

(33:46):
for them, man, and you know that that gave them
a lot of confidence. But I'll tell you this, Helena
played them tough last week eighty six.

Speaker 6 (33:54):
I was looking at that, you.

Speaker 24 (33:55):
Know, and I'm sure a lot of that had to
do coming off that big win. You know, that's gonna
be a let down somewhat, so they'll be ready for us.

Speaker 25 (34:03):
You know.

Speaker 10 (34:03):
They we saw them this summer.

Speaker 24 (34:05):
We competed against them in the seven on seven at
Hoover and so you know, we know each other a
little bit. It'll be tough, man, But you know, I
feel like we've had a good week and if our
kids play well, we're gonna give ourselves a chance to win.

Speaker 26 (34:17):
You know.

Speaker 24 (34:17):
Uh, you know whoever we play, and it just comes
down to that, how well are we going to play
Friday night?

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Yeah? You know they they every five points a game,
but so do you Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was looking
at that too, Jeff.

Speaker 6 (34:29):
You put up some points code, Yeah, we have it
in five the last two weeks in a row.

Speaker 24 (34:33):
Yeah, and you know, if we put up fifty five,
I think we'll win. But I ain't counting on that
every week. But uh, you know, they're really good. But
you know, offensively, we're getting better. We're eliminating some of
the errors that were costing us earlier in the year.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Uh.

Speaker 24 (34:49):
One thing we're you know, I want to knock on
some wood. We're not turning the ball over and that's
that's big. And if if we'll continue that trend, we'll
be in every ball game.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Now.

Speaker 6 (34:57):
I don't know, but the opening loss looks a lot
better every week. The way they're playing, you know what
I mean, no doubt that tells me. I mean, you know,
I agree, and you know you didn't play you know well,
but I'm just saying.

Speaker 10 (35:11):
I mean, maybe we did. You know, they've got a
really good team. We got a tough schedule. These first
what I was looking at Quae Central ain't.

Speaker 6 (35:21):
Those back to back, So.

Speaker 10 (35:23):
You know, hopefully that's prepared us for a game like this.
You know, this is this is big. I like being
the underdoll.

Speaker 24 (35:30):
We're gonna win, and you know, I think our kids
like that, and you know, we've had a good week,
like I said, and you know, we just got to
continue to be creative with the ways we we use
Sadarian and if our offensive line will play well and
we can run the ball, and I think we've got
a good plan and you know we're gonna have a chance.

Speaker 10 (35:48):
The key will be defensively. They're really well coached.

Speaker 24 (35:52):
They do a lot of shifting and motioning on offense,
and and we've got to be lined up and we've
worked really hard this week on lining up. Typically with
our guys, if we get lined up right and get
in the right coverage.

Speaker 10 (36:05):
We play pretty well.

Speaker 24 (36:06):
It's when we're misaligned, we don't check the right coverage,
we get a bust.

Speaker 10 (36:10):
And that's when we have problems. And this is the
kind of team that will expose that.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Who is responsible for making sure? I mean, do you
have more than one person out there? Like you have
somebody who's like the fells, the defensive backs what they're doing.
Do you have somebody tells what they want? I guess
the quite a quarterback of the defense.

Speaker 10 (36:26):
Maybe you talking about a player or I know the coach.

Speaker 24 (36:31):
Well, the mic linebacker sets the front and then our
safeties communicate the secondary. So but it's the mic linebacker
that's responsible for getting us lined up. That's front and
you know, and it's uh man, some of these teams
are they pose some issues with that, you know, and
you then, you know, you want to be in the
perfect defense every time.

Speaker 10 (36:52):
That's the goal.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
Right.

Speaker 24 (36:53):
It's hard to do this, but it's hard now, especially
especially with a team that shifts and motions and look
they do some of that Mountain Brook stuff where the
whole linill.

Speaker 10 (37:03):
Shift over, you know, and got to be really disciplined.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Yeah, you do.

Speaker 6 (37:07):
We've got three post snap penalties, right, that's right, and we.

Speaker 24 (37:10):
Got we can't have any We had two last week
on defense, we had to off side penalties.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
And I can't have that. You know.

Speaker 24 (37:16):
We're we're working hard to eliminate those. But at the
end of the day, there's you know, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen
year old.

Speaker 6 (37:21):
Kids and they get these keyed up and they're trying and.

Speaker 10 (37:24):
They're trying to make a play.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
You know.

Speaker 10 (37:27):
It's just it is what it is. We got to
continue to get better at it.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
There. You know, coach.

Speaker 15 (37:31):
I know him.

Speaker 10 (37:32):
Yes, he's a good guy.

Speaker 6 (37:33):
Yeah, football cards he coaches hard.

Speaker 24 (37:37):
And he's got a you know, everybody question whether or
not he was going to be a good fit at
Spain part.

Speaker 10 (37:42):
But I think we're finding out he is.

Speaker 6 (37:44):
I agree with he's right and and so you.

Speaker 24 (37:46):
Know, he's different than what they've had, but they've got
an edge to him. They're playing physical football and uh
that's what they need there. They're not a team that
can be you know, there's some schools that can't just
do it like everybody else. They got to do something different,
and uh that's what he's doing there.

Speaker 10 (38:01):
And they're really good.

Speaker 6 (38:02):
As well said, it's kind of who their neighboring school is,
is why.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
Yeah, exactly right.

Speaker 6 (38:06):
Always good to see you coach to guys, appreciate you're
always coming. All right, Right, that's Benjamin Russell. The Lolcats
with a big, big game, uh this week at Spank
Car and do not be surprised if they take that
w Southern Prep Little eight man football come back.

Speaker 27 (38:19):
At the Mo's Coaching Show and welcome back to the
High School Coaching Show. We'll come to you live.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
From Moe's Original Barbecue right here at Fox Sports. The
Game and Kicker f M ninety seven point seven. It's
brought to you by the Orthopeedy Clinic and Goryez Furniture Spress.
We got coach McDonald from one high school. Coach Kitchens, sir,
all right, coach, last week.

Speaker 6 (38:52):
What a game?

Speaker 15 (38:53):
Man file blew out.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
It's a w just played.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
It's a w uh.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
You know, I'll set this up. They're scheduled to play Greenville, Georgia,
prepared all week. You all ready to play on Wednesday
when we were doing the show last week Friday morning, Yeah, yeah, okay,
And for whatever reason they were unable to make the trip.
Maybe they had a flat tire Injine Blue all.

Speaker 6 (39:17):
They called. Before I'm going to get into coach here,
they the coach actually talked to me about what time
was it, Coach? They forthted that about twelve o'clock, So
about eleven o'clock they just kind of said they weren't
going to play that game, Jeff, and so we'll move on.
They got the win. I'll take care of that for
coach McDonald and we'll talk about the fete this week.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Right, this will be the this will be the fifty
fourth meeting. That's right between the fat and the net.

Speaker 6 (39:41):
How about that?

Speaker 1 (39:42):
Why don't they call this the battle they do is
fifty it is it is you know the record on
that yes.

Speaker 28 (39:51):
One.

Speaker 6 (39:52):
Yeah, man, I wasn't coach.

Speaker 15 (39:57):
This is the Alabama Historical Many High School, right.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
Yeah, but you put the hoodoo on your.

Speaker 6 (40:04):
Yeah, thirty years ago. I knew about it. Not many
people did, so there you go. Yeah, the greatest website ever.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Man, it ain't.

Speaker 6 (40:11):
It ain't the five years old, but it's always five
years old. Ye see there it's it's old. Go ahead, Yeah, no,
mister Parker in.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
Charge that.

Speaker 21 (40:23):
Region game, Region game, rivalry game. Uh, you know it
should be a should be a good game atmosphere. I
think the kids are, you know, really hyped up for it,
you know, especially after last week, and I better we
get out there and play. You can kind of tell
they're ready to get back out there. I think it
was also good for us to an extent, getting kind
of like a bye week, but also the mentality of like,

(40:45):
I mean, you don't want to ever get wins.

Speaker 15 (40:47):
Like that, but you know, to to still see a
w I guess for the kids mentality part of that,
and then that's that's still a good thing, I guess.
But I like Coach Kitchens also touch on thee.

Speaker 10 (40:58):
Yeah, very big Reagion game.

Speaker 29 (41:00):
This is a chance that our second region game, there's
a chance to put us in a good situation because
we know what's ahead of.

Speaker 8 (41:05):
Us in a couple more weeks after that.

Speaker 29 (41:07):
And I'm just telling kids, like I said, Ned, like
I said, it is rivalry, respect everybody we play and
vice versa. And I'm glad it's at home and we
just if we're clicking, how we know we can be
clicking it can it'll be we should be okay, But
like I said, you never know the high school kids.
So we got to play four quarters.

Speaker 8 (41:24):
If need be.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
And that's what that's what that's what we're playing to doing.

Speaker 8 (41:27):
That's what we're playing on.

Speaker 1 (41:28):
I'm gonna say this.

Speaker 6 (41:28):
You mentioned it region. Yes, Okay, there's a difference.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
And this is important.

Speaker 6 (41:34):
Every game is important, but a region game is more important.
Right your playoffs, Ongion, go ahead. I'm so glad to
hear you talk about that because some people talk about games.
It's fine, but the region gets you into the.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Playoffs, right, that's what matters the most. And where you
got a team that's come in with the backs. That's
what I went.

Speaker 6 (41:54):
And they're not a bad football.

Speaker 29 (41:56):
Now, this is gonna be a dangerous team coming can
be coming to u absolute But like you said, just
just sets us up for don't overlook it by no
mims because you want to overlook nobody.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
But just sets us up.

Speaker 29 (42:08):
As long as we keep playing preparing the way we are,
we'll be setting ourselves up for a big match up
in a couple of weeks.

Speaker 6 (42:13):
Just right, their backs argaans the one they got a
good team. We're talking with the net. Excuse me, three
wins on the season, excuse me three and one one
of Owen region play. All right, you talked about La Fete.
They scored a lot of points early. Yes, okay, So
how do y'all match up team wise?

Speaker 8 (42:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 21 (42:28):
I think the strength of strength for us is definitely defense. Okay,
that that kind of shows when you cut the tape
on and you see a bunch of guys that are
really really good on that side of the football, and
that's something we kind of hang our hat on. I know,
coach is a defensive guy. I've done made the switch
to the dark side, so I actually love it. But uh,
just being over there a lot for you has been
has been a lot of fun, said head coach, Hey,

(42:50):
I'm just if you only knew what we've been through.
But no, it's been a uh, it's been fun. I
think that's our strength. And then there's Slay offense, you know,
scoring a lot of points. I think they went, uh
forty nine points, forty one points, still scored fourteen against
a really good ramboard team that's.

Speaker 10 (43:08):
Always really good.

Speaker 15 (43:09):
And uh and then last week.

Speaker 21 (43:11):
You know, Lafette and that sloppy condition or not affect
sorry lonch of pocas slopping slopping conditions, but still moved
the ball well. And uh, you know, I think they
present a lot of challenges for us. That there I mean,
if not more athletic than we are. And I'm just
gonna be honest there I mean, but at the same time,
you know, we just got to do what we're supposed
to do, do our job and not let this stuff
kind of with the outside noise affect us any And

(43:34):
so I think that's kind of where we're at right now.
And you know, I let coach also jump in on that.

Speaker 29 (43:40):
It's crazy, like you said, we hear a lot of
outside talk because we're so close for fifteen minutes apart,
we have kids, on our team. We got family in
both sides. Like I said, from the court store, you know,
he was from Lynette love Meeta Fette. We have coach boy,
he's Lafette graduate now coach with us.

Speaker 1 (43:52):
So it's kind of it's a lot of a lot
of mixed family and whatnot.

Speaker 29 (43:55):
Back and forth and who to you know, just just
caught jaw jacking back and forth and at the end
of the day on Friday, just put it aside, just
focus on do your job, and I think it will
be fine. Like you said, matching up Bull Bullet County loach,
you poker. This is a very similar team, very athletic
and just got to be where we're supposed to be.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
And you can get through the ball, get through this
tough game, and you schedule just keep getting easier and easier.

Speaker 6 (44:15):
I was just looking at that.

Speaker 10 (44:17):
We're down here after that.

Speaker 15 (44:20):
Be rolling in.

Speaker 6 (44:21):
Yeah, it gets real easy.

Speaker 1 (44:24):
One of them at home, Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, We're
all healthy before we go, is not.

Speaker 11 (44:28):
You know, that's for the most part.

Speaker 21 (44:30):
You know, we got a couple of guys will probably
be out, but you know, pretty much everybody else that
fans and driving back.

Speaker 8 (44:37):
I don't know about that.

Speaker 6 (44:38):
Coach Kitchens coming back Downald's go to see JV Middle School.
How are we doing?

Speaker 21 (44:42):
He really good one last night saying another against the Saga.
Kind of had a couple of scheduled mess ups there,
but we're kind of getting back on track and should
have finished out with four more, I believe, so we
shouldn't get.

Speaker 1 (44:55):
There.

Speaker 6 (44:56):
The Panthers go, Panther Go Braves Mark gold Braids. Come
on now, we'll be back to Moe's Barbecue. High School
Coaches represented to you by Orthopedic Clint and Gorory's Frontiture Spress.

Speaker 1 (45:16):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. We're
coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. It's brought
to you by the Orthopeda Clintic Gori's Furniture Express. I
tell you as I promise, Coach Jason Allen the chambers
of Academy. Good afternoon, coach, How were you?

Speaker 28 (45:30):
I'm well, I bought my first couch from Glory's years ago.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
Is that right?

Speaker 2 (45:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (45:34):
Good folks man.

Speaker 28 (45:35):
It's amazing how much furniture they got back in those buildings.
You never would have think there'd be that much about I.

Speaker 1 (45:39):
Tell you what you start walking? Yeah, they just get
to the head just keeps go. It certainly does keep going. Coach,
last week you played back Nope, you played Edgewood. Yeah,
a region game. You just talk about that one briefly.
Thirty seven to seven was the final.

Speaker 28 (45:51):
Yeah, well that was our first home game of the season.

Speaker 10 (45:54):
And uh, who made that schedule?

Speaker 6 (45:56):
Well, I did not. We was given to me. I don't.

Speaker 28 (45:59):
We don't get to make our schedule.

Speaker 1 (46:01):
We get to.

Speaker 28 (46:01):
Request games the Roddy manxonfore it yes, So I mean,
and it you know, it equals out. So we're on
the road again this week, and then we're four straighted home,
so I mean, you know, it's just it's never gonna
line up like you want it every year. But we
get five at home.

Speaker 6 (46:16):
In five and away.

Speaker 28 (46:18):
So it was our first home game, believe it or not.
The rain held off the entire day that Friday and
that night, so we had a good crowd. The field
conditions were fine, but a lot of other people were
not that fortunate. I've been hearing. But you know, we
got off to a really good start. We jumped out,
we scored our first two possessions, and we were up

(46:38):
thirty seven to nothing at the half. I thought our
kids played really well. We took care of the football.
We've been taking care of the football since that first
game with the turnovers, and you know, that's just huge
with me as a football coach, as and offensive coaches,
you know, my number one thing is ball security. You
ask my kids, our kids. Ball security is the number

(46:59):
one goal for coach Allen on a Friday night offensively,
let's don't give it to the other team. So we
did a great job there and we're getting better every week,
which is what you want to see happen. As a
football coach. You want you don't want your team to plateau.
And I think we're still we still got a lot
of room for improve. But that was a big win
for us Friday over an Edgewood team that always plays

(47:21):
us hard.

Speaker 1 (47:22):
Yeah this week, coach, you got best for another region games,
I'd have to say down a little bit this year
from where they've been in the past. Yeah, well in
one game and the average giving up as men as
they score.

Speaker 28 (47:34):
Yeah, they struggled against some some really physical teams and
so we're hoping that trend continues because we have a
physical football team and we're kind of agricultural and our thoughts.
We want to stay on the ground and run that
dude at you.

Speaker 1 (47:48):
Yeah, okay, So you've always been a physical team as
long as I've known you.

Speaker 28 (47:53):
Yeah, well, I just believe that's what you got to
be if you want to win championships at any level
from the NFL to high school, is that you got
to be able to line up and run the football
that your opponent and out tough that other guy. And
and you know, I've just always been that guy that
I wanted to throw the ball when I wanted to
throw the football, not when I had to or needed to.

(48:15):
And so as long as we can continue to do
that and stay on track, you know, I think we'll
continue to be a good program and a good team.

Speaker 1 (48:22):
But you play them.

Speaker 6 (48:23):
There was a time though he chumped it with an
Allen fellow backing.

Speaker 1 (48:30):
But he would take off and run him.

Speaker 6 (48:31):
But I had to throw that jab. He had a
little bit more play calling. I'm just missing case.

Speaker 1 (48:35):
Go ahead, Well, Well, you know, each team, you did
a heck of a job.

Speaker 6 (48:38):
We got championships. We ain't worried about that.

Speaker 1 (48:40):
Coach ahead, Uh, did y'all did y'all play them? Last season?

Speaker 28 (48:44):
We played best over the last two years. Okay, and
they weren't in our region though they were Triple A
and we were Double an. You played up something, ye,
so now we're in the same region. We did beat
them both years, and we beat them pretty good. So
you know, I really feel like this is a trap
game for us. This game right here, I think the
winner has the inside track on winning the region championship

(49:04):
and we got to go up there and we really,
we really whooped him pretty good the last two years,
and I think you know that they're really looking to
get some revenge Friday night again stuff. So we're we're
really we're really worried about.

Speaker 6 (49:17):
That one all times.

Speaker 1 (49:19):
Yet one yeah, yeah, you said first year head coach. However,
he was like he was telling me he was the
offensive coordinator last year, so you got to be kind
of familiar with what they're gonna do. Right.

Speaker 28 (49:28):
Yeah, they're still doing the same stuff offensively. Defensively, they're
a little different. But the guy's a good coach. Like
he said, he retired from Vestavia Hills as their offensive
coordinator under Buddy and Anderson, so he knows his football.
He does a really good job. They got a really
good quarterback that came in from from a school there
in Birmingham. And he can run it and he can

(49:49):
throw it. He's a difference maker, and we got a
we gotta account for him.

Speaker 6 (49:53):
I noticed stiff they coach, they have scored some points
they've given They've scored one hundred and four and give
up one hundred and three. So they put up points,
but they give up points.

Speaker 1 (50:02):
What they give up is they scores me as they
give up allow So you know, I.

Speaker 6 (50:08):
Didn't hear the first half, but I assume your team
has gotten better each week.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
Would I be right?

Speaker 28 (50:12):
I think we have demark. We kind of fight a little.
Injuries this week, we've had We've had some things. One
of our top running backs was out last week and
I don't think he'll make it back this week. And
we had a casualty in practice this week that we're
hoping to get back Friday night.

Speaker 6 (50:27):
But when you say casualty, you mean an injury.

Speaker 10 (50:30):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 6 (50:31):
I want to make sure now because I don't want
to get a tech going. What was coach saying that?

Speaker 28 (50:34):
I apologize that we're wrong.

Speaker 6 (50:36):
Thank you.

Speaker 28 (50:37):
We had a slight, we had a possible concussion.

Speaker 6 (50:40):
All right, I'm not laughing at the concussion. But the
term there, Yeah, that was wrong.

Speaker 1 (50:45):
You just got to get him through the protocol.

Speaker 28 (50:46):
Yeah, yes, exactly, hate you, coach.

Speaker 6 (50:48):
I hate that, you know.

Speaker 1 (50:49):
Coach Jamie Dubo said he couldn't pass the kids to coach.
He was dead serious that day. Excuse me for using
that word again.

Speaker 6 (51:00):
He said right there and said, guys, I don't know
if I could pass the concussion right now. But his
point was the kid didn't need to go to the game.
But I didn't need that test to tell me. And
he said, but I don't know if I could. Didn't
need to help me. I've never taken one, coach, but
I have seen kids that had concussions, and you their eyes.

Speaker 1 (51:20):
Were like blue. There's there's tale tales when you can
see it, but this might have been one you couldn't see.

Speaker 6 (51:27):
And that's when you're glad you do have the protocol.

Speaker 28 (51:29):
Yes, we're going to err on the side of the cars.

Speaker 6 (51:32):
Yes, sir, every time.

Speaker 28 (51:33):
These are young kids lives and there's a lot more
life than football.

Speaker 6 (51:36):
And I assume trainers, you had proper protocol. There was practice,
it wasn't here.

Speaker 28 (51:41):
We send our guys to orthoped and they do an
outstanding job.

Speaker 6 (51:46):
So you want to talk about one of our great sponsors.
There you go and you called in Fox Sports the
game every week.

Speaker 1 (51:54):
Yes, it does.

Speaker 6 (51:54):
We had him on this week. We need to have
it on tomorrow morning.

Speaker 28 (51:57):
Tell you what, I can't say enough about John Ridge
and Terry and the Orthopedic Clinic. They I've been with
them for twenty plus years and they have always treated
me unbelievably. If I need to get a kid in
their scene, then I can get them in there that
every time the next morning and so then they are
great people to work with.

Speaker 6 (52:15):
They are you know what, I'm so glad you said that.
I'm un you know, revoked or yeah, because they do
so much that people don't know. So and you're right, coach,
they've worked with you a long time. Yeah, and they've
worked with a lot.

Speaker 1 (52:36):
Of school on Saturday mornings.

Speaker 6 (52:38):
Yeah, it doesn't matter what school we all. Let me
make sure and clarify that it's Chambers, it's Polkal, it
doesn't it's open life, first class, it's a Southern Christian,
it doesn't matter.

Speaker 28 (52:49):
Yep, you're gonna get I even coached at another school
that they didn't cover for three years, and I had
athletes that they would do I call them and they
spring them.

Speaker 6 (52:59):
And that there's something be said for that.

Speaker 8 (53:00):
Cach.

Speaker 6 (53:00):
I'm so glad you mentioned that.

Speaker 25 (53:02):
Now.

Speaker 6 (53:02):
I hope that young man that had the concussion, I
hope he gets better back in quickly. Yeah, because that's
a dangerous Still all right, what about your younger group.
We always talked this before we go. I'd like to
get those young guys in. If you your middle school teams,
your JV, how are they doing.

Speaker 28 (53:13):
Yeah, we played last night with our peewee and JV.
The pee wee's four fifth and six, our JV seven
eight nine, and both won last night against Lakeside School.
Out of you follow of course, my whole coach and staff,
we all coach those same teams, and you're just really
excited about the future program.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
You know what you got when they get there.

Speaker 6 (53:29):
That's right, he's out there every time and good to
see coach. Thank you guys, go Blas, Yes, sir, God
Bass you Chambers Academy, the Rebels, big region game at
Bestmer on the road. We'll continue high school coaches show
in a moment from Mose.

Speaker 1 (53:49):
And welcome back to the high school Coaches Show, We're
coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue was brought
to you by the Orthopedic Clinic and Gory's Front the
Tree Express. And next up to Russell County coach Dealing Griggs.
Good after, coach, how were you good afternoon? I'm doing well.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
It's good to be here.

Speaker 1 (54:02):
Hey, coach, your three and one, but most importantly you're
two and zero in the region. We are very good.
Congratulations on the win last week against Percy Julia Well.
Formerly a lot of people would know him as the
Lee Generals Robberie Lee. So you don't talk about that
game briefly, coach. It was a forty nine to nineteen final.

Speaker 25 (54:20):
Yeah, you know, it was a you know, we came
in there kind of really worried about the quarterback. I
think the quarterback over at Percy Julian might be, in
my opinion, probably one of the best in the region,
if not the best. He's a dual threat and he
can run, he can throw, you know, great vision downfield.
I thought the running backs were exceptional. But you know,
the game was supposed to be on a Thursday, you know,

(54:40):
about eight hours before kickoff, it got canceled and moved
to Saturday, and so you know, all of a sudden,
because we already had the field trip for HIMS, we
went out and have practice and I was, I mean,
it was like an amazing practice that Thursday. I was like,
oh my god, you know, they were ready today. And so,
you know, then we come back in Friday morning, we
do another little special teams deal and I told him,
I said, I want you there at seven third I
mean at seven o'clock on the dot. And I get

(55:04):
there and by six forty five, the whole team was
already in the locker room on Saturday, and I was like,
you know, we'll boom boom, boom boom, like everybody's here,
and I'm like, all right, and so, you know, we
just got in there.

Speaker 1 (55:14):
The energy was good, the kids executed well.

Speaker 25 (55:16):
Devin Brown had you know, I think seventeen rushes for
like one twenty five two catches or three catches for
maybe another fifty. You know, I think we had five
different guys score on Friday night. Bryce and Riggins played unbelievable,
as he has pretty much all season, you know, and
then the defense camrays Isaiah Thomas has really been you know,

(55:38):
doing a lot of really good things set in edge.
Eldrick Page at middle linebacker is just you know, he's
been a stud everything we thought he.

Speaker 1 (55:44):
Was going to be.

Speaker 25 (55:44):
And so you know, what you're watching is a lot
of guys who have been playing since they were really young.
And you know, now we're full of juniors and seniors
and maybe one or two little sophomores. But you know,
these guys have been playing. You're seeing it on the field.
I mean, it looks really good right now. We're good
coach this week you back in UH in Region play again.

Speaker 1 (56:01):
You have part cross Paul Crossing's O ONENZ where you
were talking about them a little bit UH before we
got to come on the air. What what does what
does Paul Crossing do?

Speaker 8 (56:11):
Well?

Speaker 25 (56:13):
Do you know they run the ball? You know, I
think I think they do a good job of formationing
you on defense. Defensively, you know the the you know,
they're very aggressive. You know, they do a good job
of getting to the ball.

Speaker 8 (56:28):
You know.

Speaker 25 (56:29):
The one thing that we know is that they've kind
of ran a different defense every week, so you know,
kind of really trying to decipher and say, how are
how are they going to try to defend against us?
This week has been a really interesting challenge.

Speaker 1 (56:41):
But you know, they're young.

Speaker 25 (56:42):
I think you know, they've got a they've got a
first year head coach over there, and I think, you know,
you can tell that he's doing a good job. They
ran some trick play versus Stanhope and I mean it
barely missed and you could tell like they had just
worked so hard on that play. And so you see
some good things really happening on there. You know, I
think they're good enough. You know, on any given Friday,
you know, they're good enough to eat anybody.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
Yeah, you know, in the past they've had when coach
Crouder had them, they were like semi final team a
couple of times. I mean, they've got they've had some
good athletes. Now, of course there's there's some you know,
you got pipe roll now out there in some of
the private schools, so it may not have the quite
the choice athletes that they once have, but it one
too far back. They were a strong team every season.

(57:21):
It's like maybe, you know, being young, you know, we
see that every year you have teams that you know,
at some point another you're going to have a young team. Absolutely. Yeah,
So it's just it's part of it's the nature of
the game when you live, Uh went in high school
for sure, So uh, Park Crossing, they're O and three coach,
you're three and one most portly two and oh.

Speaker 6 (57:41):
Good luck Friday night.

Speaker 8 (57:42):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
You know what?

Speaker 30 (57:44):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (57:45):
One good thing about it is you're playing at home
for homecoming?

Speaker 25 (57:48):
Is it?

Speaker 6 (57:48):
Homecoming?

Speaker 1 (57:48):
Actually started out that we got two homecomings here already,
like his homecomings is Friday night and now in yours too.

Speaker 6 (57:55):
I think Valleys is as well.

Speaker 1 (57:57):
You know what, I think he did say that they
got Marbory, We've got three homecomings. He's a Valley guy,
is he.

Speaker 25 (58:05):
I hadn't really said a whole lot to the team,
but you know, looking at it, if we win this Friday,
I think we're actually in the playoffs, which will be
the first time in I think eleven years and the
fifth time in the history of the school.

Speaker 1 (58:18):
So this will like, really it'll luck you.

Speaker 25 (58:20):
What's the seventeen region, it'd be our thirteenth, it'd be
our third got region win, so we are the seventh team,
if that makes sense, and we would have beaten half Yeah,
three and three will get you so at.

Speaker 1 (58:30):
Least a full seed. Well, good luck and congratulations Friday night.
Get the win, be in the playoffs. Thank you guys.
That's coach Dillan Griggs with Russell County. Up next, Jason
Allen with Chambers of Academy. You're listening to the High
School Coaching Show right here on Fox Sports The Game.
Welcome back to the High School Coaching Show, coming to

(58:50):
you live from Moe's Original Barbecue, brought to you by
the Orthopedic Clinic and Gory's Furnaship Express. Up next is
beautiful coach Pepper. How you doing and of course of
course we got a car as well too. That throw, y'all,

(59:12):
Let's want to make sure I got it right?

Speaker 15 (59:13):
You got it right?

Speaker 1 (59:14):
Offense? Defense?

Speaker 2 (59:15):
Yes, sir?

Speaker 25 (59:17):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (59:17):
Last week Region played Lee Scott first time, first time ever?
Mean ever, mean, let's talk about that one briefly. I
wasn't they Yes, for real, briefly. I'm want to tell
you Lee Scott's got a good, good football program. Uh.

Speaker 31 (59:32):
You can tell they're a championship program. And everything they
did Friday night, I'm just really impressive.

Speaker 16 (59:40):
Uh.

Speaker 31 (59:42):
Buster does an outstanding job him and his coaching staff.
And you know now I'm not gonna sit here and
say we played our best game. We didn't, but they
had a lot to do with that.

Speaker 1 (59:52):
Uh.

Speaker 31 (59:52):
But they're they're very well coached, you know. And I
was just really impressed with with their we're all program
and you know, they're gonna be successful in the public
school if they keep doing what they were doing Friday night. Yeah, okay,
we'll get we'll get by that. Your next opponent is Glenwood.

Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
Now, this is the man.

Speaker 6 (01:00:11):
Now Glenwood.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
If you're not familiar with the aissay, was the team
that they played for the championship last two seasons.

Speaker 31 (01:00:17):
Right, Well, I started my career in AISA, so I
know a little bit about both of them.

Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Okay, So Glenwood having a good season two, yes, sir.
The good thing about it, though, is y'all playing a
beautiful correct So let's talk about Glenwood. I have not
seen them play this year. I just know that they
haven't lost the game.

Speaker 31 (01:00:37):
They're big and then they're bigger, and they're really big,
and uh, coach Nelson and his staff do an outstanding job.

Speaker 8 (01:00:47):
Too what they do.

Speaker 31 (01:00:48):
But they're big and they're big. So I don't know
if I can stress out or not. But they're big
talk about speed. How the speed did they have? You know,
I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't know. We'll
find out Friday night. I don't I blease speed. We'll
probably actually might be a little bit faster than them.

Speaker 15 (01:01:08):
All around.

Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
All around.

Speaker 15 (01:01:10):
Their backs are good, their backs to fast.

Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
That rumor has it they got some kids on the
team that wasn't on the team last year that moved in.

Speaker 8 (01:01:16):
You know, I wouldn't know about that.

Speaker 1 (01:01:18):
I just this, just like I said, rumor had that
I hadn't seen them play this yet. Yeah, it's real easy.
I mean at fourteenth Street Bridge, I mean you go
across the head. Yeah, you know so, but you know,
now they don't have school buses. But you know it's
in Lee County, when with schools in Lee County. But
I'd venture to say you probably got something from a
Skogie and Russell And well that's the rumor.

Speaker 10 (01:01:38):
But the fact is they're good though, So I don't
care Friday night.

Speaker 31 (01:01:43):
They're on the team now, so that's all that matters. So,
I mean, you know, they you know, defensively from the
office standpoint, defensively there there. I don't know if I
said this before it but they're big up front. You
mentioned it, okay, real sound, and what they do. Number
thirteen is a he's a he's a beast. He plays

(01:02:05):
defensive end tackle however you want to describe him in
a three four front, and they're multiple ndous secondary.

Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
But they get after you.

Speaker 31 (01:02:15):
But they don't do a lot of stuff defensive they don't.
They don't put yourself in a buying They pretty much
for the most part, just play, you know, a base
type system and just let their guys read and react.

Speaker 1 (01:02:25):
And they do a really good job of that.

Speaker 8 (01:02:27):
On on the defense side of ball.

Speaker 31 (01:02:29):
It's gonna be a big challenge for us Friday night
offensive line and we've challenged him this week and so
you know, just gotta come up.

Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
We gotta play better when this past Friday night and
I'm like coach, course, and offensively.

Speaker 8 (01:02:40):
What do they do?

Speaker 15 (01:02:42):
Uh, they're pretty balanced. I mean they can be balanced.

Speaker 32 (01:02:44):
I know they ran the ball a lot against George
Burke because it rained about two inches at game time.
But they got a quarterback they can spin it. I mean,
he's super smart with the ball. They got two backs
that can really go. You can find daylight and hurts you.
And I in a heartbeat, and then they got a
They got some big old whiteouts too that can run it.

(01:03:06):
And you know, we watched you know, some comber film
and they kind of get you out there on on
an island and it's tough to defend them. So you know,
that's what we've been working on, is trying to give
our guys help.

Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Just Coach Nebsen, see the offense coordinator. You know, he's
offense coordinated central.

Speaker 32 (01:03:21):
Imagine you knowing it. Yeah, yeah, And you can see
they want to spread out and throw screens and you know,
get to their athletes and try to get you in
one on one situations. Like I said, though they can
they can put everybody in a box too. That's what
they did against Childersburg when it started raining. So you know,
we've prepared all week to every formation that we think

(01:03:43):
they might throw. It's just based off feeling. But like
I said, if they want to, they want to come
in and and you know, run twelve personnel or twenty
two personnel whatever, you know, hopefully we're.

Speaker 15 (01:03:56):
Prepared for that.

Speaker 32 (01:03:56):
And then they'll spread out and and uh try to
get it to the boundary and see what happens.

Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
Y'all need a big crowd Friday night.

Speaker 15 (01:04:03):
I think we will.

Speaker 32 (01:04:03):
I think I think they're gonna bring a big crowd,
and I think I think we'll have a big crowd too.

Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
Yeah, it's not too far what what looking at thirty minutes?

Speaker 32 (01:04:10):
Yeah maybe maybe, Yeah, I think I think I think
the Buller crowd will show up. I think Glenwood will too,
though too good atmosphere.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Too, Lee County schools. It's not the same school system.

Speaker 31 (01:04:18):
But yeah, and it's another historic type game, I guess
for us, you know, it's region game and playing another
planning for the first time, and we're here's the thing
us at least Scott and Glenwood are regional opponents.

Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
And I think every sport this year. Yeah, if I'm
not mistaken, really, I mean, so y'all, y'all be in
the area in basketball and baseball and.

Speaker 10 (01:04:44):
All that volleyball, you name it.

Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
All right, Well you might as well get used to
saying that ls A and Glenwood get to known.

Speaker 31 (01:04:51):
Each other a lot better. But yeah, we're looking forward
to it. Yeah, another big game. We're at home. We're excited,
have a big crowd and you know, find out what
we made of this Friday night.

Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
You have rebound. Yeah, hey, good luck. I hope you
come back next week. We win number four.

Speaker 10 (01:05:08):
Thank you appreciate it. Go Bobcats.

Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
That's Coach Pepper and coach Courses. It's good to see
you guys. That's Beautial High School up next, Russell.

Speaker 6 (01:05:16):
County, and we welcome you back to Mose Barbecue. High
School Coaches Show on The Kicker and Fox Sports The
Game nine, ten, thirteen, ten, De Mart Mitchell, Jeff's aster
Jason Lee live on a lowcation and we're glad to
be here. And we appreciate Doroth, Pete Clint, Mose Barbecue,

(01:05:37):
and we certainly appreciate Gory's furniture. Spis three fine places,
and we certainly appreciate what they do and supporting high
school football and our shows every Wednesday night. We're here
for two hours, actually longer than that. We're here for
a while, feeding coaches and talking football. And as we
roll right along with them, talk to Smith Station football
with coach John while they coach. It's good to see
you tonight.

Speaker 8 (01:05:56):
How are you.

Speaker 10 (01:05:57):
That's fine, sir, Thanks for having us here.

Speaker 6 (01:05:59):
Yes, as good to have you here.

Speaker 26 (01:06:01):
Food.

Speaker 6 (01:06:01):
It's always good to have you here. Coach, thanks for
being here, all right, big week this week, coach, you
got Oak like it. But before we do that, you
played Carver last week twenty six to seven. He'll pull
that up a little bit because he actually flipped that.
Michael hits it around.

Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
Coach. That'll help.

Speaker 6 (01:06:14):
There you go, there you go, there you go, all right, John,
all right, So last week twenty six to seven, Carver,
tough loss. Talking about playing Carver in that game a
little bit.

Speaker 30 (01:06:25):
Well, the weather conditions were wasn't like ideal, you know,
with the phil and us having a grass field was
kind of muddy. We turned the ball over several times
from just having wet balls and snaps. I thought our
defense played pretty well offensively, we could have did a
lot better.

Speaker 6 (01:06:44):
All right, So we moved from there. Coach, you got
Opal likea this week. Your your old school were you
romped and stomp coaches a little different now than when
you play their coach. They got turf and the stadium
has been filled in a little bit different, but it's
still the home where you romped and stump and hit folks.
So talk about playing Opal like a week, going home
and playing your alma mam.

Speaker 30 (01:07:02):
Well, you know, just history in itself. It's it's that's
the place that you just don't come in and get
a win. You know, Opalaika is a really good team there.
Their coach will fans come out to support them. So
it's gonna be a hostile environment. It's gonna be loud.
The band plays throughout the game. So we got a
lot to look forward to, and we gotta, you know,

(01:07:25):
our it's cut out for us for this game.

Speaker 8 (01:07:28):
We got a lot we gotta do.

Speaker 6 (01:07:30):
It's homecoming. They're they're they're rolling. They had a close
game with with Auburn their only loss. They blew out
Jag last week or yeah, wasn't Jagged last week, and
you know they they'd showed promise. But it's also an
region game for you guys, another opportunity to to gain
a little momentum and get a win and kind of
you know, kind of shock that region.

Speaker 8 (01:07:52):
Great, Yeah, and shock that.

Speaker 30 (01:07:55):
The The ideal thing is that for us is that
are we getting better each week we got we gotta
are showing improvement and that's the big thing for us.

Speaker 8 (01:08:04):
Last time I was on here, we talked about how
young we were.

Speaker 30 (01:08:07):
The interesting thing is I joked with one of the
Opelika coaches on Monday because we played their JV team.

Speaker 10 (01:08:12):
I said, the same kids you.

Speaker 6 (01:08:14):
See, yeah, yeah, or be playing Friday, right, yeah, it'll be.

Speaker 1 (01:08:17):
The same kid. Yeah.

Speaker 30 (01:08:19):
So we're just we're just young and we gotta we
gotta just stay the course. Hopefully the kids have stayed
the course, the parents have stayed the course, the community
of state the course. If we stayed the course in
a couple of years, we'll be pretty good.

Speaker 21 (01:08:31):
Are they?

Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
Improvement?

Speaker 8 (01:08:32):
Coach?

Speaker 6 (01:08:32):
Is your team improvement?

Speaker 30 (01:08:34):
Well, I'm going to go off for like a Monday
when we were playing equal equal tenth graders versus tenth graders,
we did pretty well.

Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
There you go.

Speaker 30 (01:08:44):
You know the first half when we can only play
them two quarters, right, the first half we were up
eighteen zero. So we're young. The kids just gotta understand that.
There I was joking about this, and so I'll say
something about my son that that's kind of funny. You know,
my son plays for air Force and he was there
last year. He said, Dad, I don't know how the
hell you played as a true freshman offer. He's a

(01:09:06):
grown man about that. So in relationship to what we're
doing now, we're having fourteen fifteen year old kids playing
against seventeen.

Speaker 6 (01:09:14):
Eighteen year old kids. That's a good point.

Speaker 30 (01:09:16):
It is a huge difference, So I hope people will
kind of understand that. I think coach Garrison is doing
an excellent job and trying to build culture at Smith
Station and trying to build something that can stand the time.
So we just got to be patient, and I think
he's again he's doing a great job.

Speaker 6 (01:09:33):
When you go in this game, do you do you
do anything different?

Speaker 8 (01:09:36):
Coach?

Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
You said, Okay, we're going to try to do this
because we have it. Do you or do you stick
with the kind of plan that you you just you
know you've steadied all alonge?

Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Is that what you do? You tell me?

Speaker 30 (01:09:46):
Well, ideal, we try to work on our basic offense
that we're getting. We're improving in those basic areas, so
you know, ideal, if toss is our basic thing, we
need to get better at blocking toss. But we also
try to say, okay, worse and we on other opponents.
How do we take advantage of some of those weaknesses
and what can we do to put us in a
good situation to score, move the ball, control the clock,

(01:10:09):
those different type things that we try to approach each week.

Speaker 6 (01:10:11):
There you go, all right, coach, speaking of Monday night,
who did play well? Give me some kids' names.

Speaker 30 (01:10:17):
Well, we got a lot of like Huff it's one
of our running backs, number four, twenty four. You got
Nate Malone. It's pretty good. Our quarterback played pretty well
the other day in our JV game. So our office
of line I thought, did an excellent job. And we
had some key deep defensive guys like Bouche at linebacker

(01:10:38):
that had a great game.

Speaker 10 (01:10:40):
So we got the talent is there. They's just freshmans
and sophomores.

Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
Yep, I get it.

Speaker 8 (01:10:46):
Coach.

Speaker 6 (01:10:46):
Always good to see you. Thank you very much for
coming on and cut my finger on get thank you
for coming. Good to see you, and good luck Friday night.
Okay you sir, Smiths Station Histo Black. It's homecoming on
the campus on the Bulldogs and they got Smith Station
kick off at seven clock. You hear that game right
here on ninety seven point seven d Mark Jeff Jason
Van Riggs will take a break, come back. We got uh.

(01:11:08):
I see we broke away from Beulah because they were eating,
so I think we're gonna go back to Bidle when
we come back.

Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
And welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. We're
coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue and it's
brought to you by the what was the Key Clinic
and Jim Jimmy and Pam Gori at Gory's Furniture Express.
And next up is up like a high School and
coach Kenny Prescott Good afternoon, Coach Natur Then Jeffrey, how
you doing, Buddy good? Last week big win against jag
reaging game fifty two to six.

Speaker 8 (01:11:37):
Coach, big response after the week before that.

Speaker 33 (01:11:40):
Uh, we challenged our guys to come out and start fast,
and uh we're able to get up on them thirty
one and nothing and half.

Speaker 8 (01:11:48):
We're able to play a lot of people.

Speaker 1 (01:11:49):
Uh, some good.

Speaker 33 (01:11:50):
Quality snaps by our starters, and then we were able
to take them out and bring in that next group.

Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
That's just building depth. Then when the song, they worked
hard all all year long, Friday nights, that's what you
that's the reward for the year.

Speaker 33 (01:12:09):
Give them a chance and die in the sky, don't
line and get them on them and be able to
correct and work off of it.

Speaker 8 (01:12:15):
Well said.

Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
We had big nights from Hughlett, Kobe Lee of Key
up Key.

Speaker 33 (01:12:20):
He had a big knight Calvin h Our receivers uh
Roy Jones and Bennett and Fat and uh good all
around effort with that first group, and then brought the
second group in and got to look at a lot
of people.

Speaker 8 (01:12:34):
Up front for us.

Speaker 33 (01:12:35):
Were able to play eight guys up front the same
way with the offensive line. I think they rotated eight
n also, yeah, and.

Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Use two quarterbacks last week, right yeah, came running backs,
so we feel good about running there right now.

Speaker 8 (01:12:47):
I think Ben's got three, uh you know with Calvin
uh and Waits and Tommy.

Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Johnson, Okay Johnson, Tommy Johnson.

Speaker 8 (01:12:57):
Tommy Johnson like by like a dadel Yeah wanna.

Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
Yeah, I mean yeah, that's name. It was Smith's for
a long time. So you know, we we got those.
Uh those are the common names, what you know. The
Auburn's got them, Valley's got them, Everybody's got them. You know,
family names that just just keep every time you go.
They still you're thinking, oh, I thought he had graduated.
There's another one. I can't remember who the h years

(01:13:23):
ago when when you were playing who they were the
ballet but the Lynette had all the you know, I
can't hues Huckabees. Yeah, Billings Ballely. I think one of
that hucky bees that at Lynette. So you know, every
every city has them. They never they will be there forever.
I guess Pep waves brat and yeah, I mean that's

(01:13:46):
for them, that's where it is. Hey, this week we
got Smith's Station, the other region game Smith Station. Yeah,
you know coach Smith Station coaches in here. He's telling
us they're really a young bunch.

Speaker 8 (01:13:56):
They are.

Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
Some escaping you know. Uh, then they need to put
a fence around there and key. Yeah, it's a funny
it's a funny district.

Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
I've always heard if a bus, if a Russell County
bus or Phoenix City bus runs in front of your house,
there may be three buses running, you can get on
the one you want to and go to school. I've
heard that. I don't know if true either.

Speaker 33 (01:14:19):
But I know I know exactly where you're coming from,
because it is a fine line over there between the
twes and a lot of them end up one of
the other directions.

Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
Yeah, and you know this, it's been several years I
think probably uh uh. Let's see who was the coach
that had a he had a pretty good team, made
it to about the semi finals one year. Uh well
you Mark Rose, smart Rose. That's many years of years.

Speaker 8 (01:14:43):
Like three to nothing nothing the first time, this is
twenty years.

Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
Quarterback gets a separated the shoulder. But they had a
good team, had a really good team.

Speaker 8 (01:14:52):
It was a physical ball game, man.

Speaker 33 (01:14:53):
That was that we had them backed up like the
five yard line that broke the long run and was
close enough to kick field.

Speaker 6 (01:14:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Yeah, don't get me wrong. I hate we lost, but
those are the kind of games, the fun games you
get to see, you know, Like a couple of weeks ago,
that was yeah right now, you know I can't. I
came through op like and grab something to eat after
the game, and I went to a drive through. I
grabbed something to eat and I said, he's man, like
a lost you know. It was in Oplaka where I
was eating And I said, yeah, man, that's sure. It

(01:15:19):
was a fun y. It wasn't nothing fun about that game.
And I said, it was a game to watch. So
I didn't.

Speaker 8 (01:15:25):
Come one what we were wanting.

Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
But that's what you go. That's Friday nights. To me,
that's Friday nights.

Speaker 6 (01:15:30):
And built off of that, Yeah, absolutely, yeah, on down
the road.

Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
We've played them twice in the season before, so we
might get them again if they hang around long.

Speaker 8 (01:15:41):
So that's what we're hoping that both of us end up.

Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
There and that would be great Smith's station. What what
do they do, Well, I'll tell you what, Jeff.

Speaker 33 (01:15:48):
They they're very young, like you said, but I'm gonna
tell you they got some skilled people that if you
don't play irresponsible, it's all about option football with them.
They're under center, you're gonna get split back beer, you're
gonna get medline, you're gonna get counter and then they're
gonna throw the bubbles out there on the edge. And
you think it's safe to go back into the water
and you don't do what your coach to do, they
go bout the head on the gold posting.

Speaker 8 (01:16:10):
The band's gonna be playing. It ain't gonna be yours.

Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
Coach Barfield could coach it to beat. The office noticed
that it's.

Speaker 33 (01:16:15):
Uh, And I'm gonna tell you it's all about being disciplined,
doing what your coached to do. And that's what we've
been preaching all week because you know, looking at the film,
there were several times that people didn't play their responsibility
in this type offense.

Speaker 8 (01:16:28):
Next thing, you know, they gone.

Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
Ah if you was grating when you're grading your your linemen,
have they have they been everything you wanted to be?

Speaker 33 (01:16:38):
Or well, you know, we do a production chart every
week based on the game. And you know in the
Auburn game, yeah it was a close ball game, but
they were a lot of things that that went up.

Speaker 8 (01:16:48):
To our standard always is.

Speaker 33 (01:16:50):
And I mean you know, as us coaches, you know,
we want everything perfect to get to that level where
we want to be.

Speaker 8 (01:16:57):
That's what you got to have.

Speaker 33 (01:16:58):
And then each week we look for improving on those
things based off of the game before. And it's you know,
stead had been coming up since that game, and like
last week, even though it was fifty two to six,
we still have some things that we had to fix.

Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
I bet you alburn when they looked at their fam
they had some things and and and then win against enterprise.

Speaker 33 (01:17:18):
Too, whether it was tackling, whether it was fitting at
work we're you supposed to, or whether you were running
the right stunt or running what was called right, you know,
having a false start of lining up all sides. Those
little bitty things add up and we talked about that
this week because more is big on it, and it
starts in that classroom and starts in that schooling. You know,

(01:17:39):
you got to do the little things right over there
before you even get to us. And we and we're
very high on that meeting our standard that we want
and if you're not to the standard, and you know,
people asked us, says, what was where am I at
on the string? We don't have strings. We have standards.
If you meet that standard and do what we asked
you do, you're gonna be that rotation. You're gonna be

(01:18:01):
able to play something on Friday.

Speaker 1 (01:18:02):
Is anybody surprised you this year?

Speaker 33 (01:18:03):
Very surprised that, Yeah, Baby TJ is one of my
defensive begins. Uh, it's really come on and really played,
uh more than what I expected when we first started.
And I'm gonna tell you it started back and when
when coach Moore got here, started in the weight room.

Speaker 8 (01:18:18):
That's where it really took off. And that's where you
went ball games.

Speaker 1 (01:18:22):
You know that it starts, Ymber. You know we've talking
about that back in the spring. You know, some weight
that we put on, strength that we gained a little
bit different philosophy and.

Speaker 8 (01:18:32):
The weight in the past, and Caden McGee's made a
big difference, strengthened.

Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
I hadn't met him, but I've heard a lot of
good things about.

Speaker 33 (01:18:39):
Him, very big and improvement based since he's been there,
not only in our sport, but in all the sports,
even the ones that are playing that bodyball and stuff.

Speaker 8 (01:18:49):
You can start seeing the difference.

Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Yes, hey, this is homecoming.

Speaker 8 (01:18:53):
Oh yeah, and you know, it's been a busy week.
You know how it is.

Speaker 33 (01:18:56):
You've got a lot of distractions and hoping. And we
talked about at that Sunday, even when we met with
the guys that we bring in on Sunday to look
at the film. Let them understand that, you know, the
pep rallies and all the other activities are not for us.
That's for the fans. That's for everybody else that's in boss. Yeah,
the non players exactly. And it starts with the community

(01:19:18):
pep rally downtown tomorrow at five point.

Speaker 8 (01:19:21):
Thirty and at h it's the Court had Square, right, and.

Speaker 33 (01:19:26):
You know we're gonna be there, and like I said,
it's uh for the community to enjoy it and don't
get caught up in those distractions.

Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
One focus and you do your thing ten o'clock Friday night.
But you do what you're supposed to do exactly, then
we'll coach. Good luck this week homecoming. It don't like it.
They're playing at home. That's coach Kenny Prescott Grandson. Hey you,
what's your name? Houston? All right, it's good to see you, Houston.
Hey up next, uh Bula High School. Right after this,
you listen to the High School Coaching Show.

Speaker 6 (01:20:11):
Welcome back to Mos Barbecue. Were Jefferson absolutely crazy? D Mark,
jeff Jason, Lee Van Riggs. We're on Mos on the
platter of It's a beautiful evening. We're not sweating, we're laughing.
Good to see you, Jason. We got the poker Indians
in the house and they won their first game last week. Coach,
congrat win. Good to see you, coach haw. Congrats on

(01:20:33):
your first win ever as a head coach. First win, man,
that's bigger than Wayne Newton. Sleem whatever, Dion all as
I say, coach, that's my favorite phrase. But good job, coach.
Tell me about that game last week.

Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
Tell me it was a good game.

Speaker 34 (01:20:48):
We came out I think we scored first and they
came back and scored right back at us. We scored
this web six six just like that, and and we
was able to separate from them at the game when
went along, offense did a great up scoring, moving moving
to football, taking care of the football. They want to
have one turnover on the bat snap. We had a
guy that come in for his name of a Monthy

(01:21:10):
a month to Richard come in as a wildcat quarterback
and he ran four hundred and thirty yards and score
two touchdowns and threw four touchdown so he had he
had a big day. Force team played well. Man got
my offensive coordinator, uh Daniel Bird here, what is he probaking?
Explain more to the offense to you than I can,
Coach Bird.

Speaker 6 (01:21:26):
Good to see the scores to I failed to say,
it's twenty four to six over the fat Coach Bird.
Good to see you.

Speaker 35 (01:21:30):
Didn't see you, Yes, sir, Yes, sir, I'll let you
talk a little bit about it. Yeah, it was a
great night, you know, great week of preparation. Came out obviously,
had to face a lot of adversity that week. Just
just making some adjustments and came out and Monty stepped
up big for us at wildcat quarterback and just game
planning to get him the ball and play with speed,
and you know, and they did that. They blocked well

(01:21:52):
for each other. They bought in all week and I
just think they were ready for win, and so they
just came out as one. And that's that's always a
big thing.

Speaker 6 (01:21:59):
I'm gonna say this, Coach, I was at your game
at least gott and we really enjoyed the presentation for
Coach Tate and Coach Jones. Excuse me, I'm glad to
be as good to see you.

Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
Coach.

Speaker 6 (01:22:09):
I hate the game, but let me tell you that
was a close game. Y'all know that that game was closed.
So you're right there and we've talked about it, you know.
I know, coach, you got over the hump and I
know all that you talk about that meaning of doing that.

Speaker 34 (01:22:20):
Winning that game, Yeah it was. I mean, it was
just good to get those guys finally getting to win.
They've been itching for one they've been working hard. I
want to talk about defense a little bit as well.
Our defense played well, too many. They did a great
job of stopping those guys and had the athletes on
the edge. They had a good quarterback, good offensive line.
Our defense came out fire man. They only gave up

(01:22:41):
one big play and that was the six points that
they got. But other than that, man, they they really
shut those guys down the real.

Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
Town Jeff, I know you got some stats here, I say,
you know, coach, I like that they you know, they
score about thirty four games. They don't give up a
whole lot probably, you know, they just to tag over
a touchdown a game, and a lot of that was
against or Miller. They're only lost. Oh yeah, but they
we can't sugarc coach this game. This is a good team, yeah,
no doubt. Yeah, yeah, this is a good team. I
mean a good team. I saw him play twice last year.

(01:23:09):
I saw him play Holland Home, yeah, in the regular season,
and saw him in Tuscaloosa playing.

Speaker 8 (01:23:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:23:14):
So they're a good team in fact physical man.

Speaker 10 (01:23:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:23:18):
They lost their first game at the Classic in Montgomery
to tr Miller. A lot of people lose to tr
Mel twenty eight seven, right, they wonted Trinity twenty three
beat Horseshoe Ben sixty one zero, ye forty to eight
zero over Rammand last week. What we got to do
to handle this bunch, We just gotta be got to
be ourselves, you know, We've got to execute.

Speaker 34 (01:23:34):
You know, we can't come out and make mistakes and
inspect to win the game. We got to make sure
our guys are doing what that's supposed to be doing.
Execute the game. Playing playing for s B like I
know we're gonna do that, lives on anything, trying to
get takeaways and stuff like that. But playing against a
real good football team, good well coached football team, a
good physical football team.

Speaker 6 (01:23:53):
With some athletes running around. So it'll be a test.
We'll be up for it though.

Speaker 11 (01:23:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:23:58):
You know what the best part about playing it? Uh?
Coach Jones and coach coach Jones excited about that. Yeah,
that's uh, you know they are. I've seen him play.
I haven't seen him play this year. They always know,
but historically yeah, I mean yeah, the first time you've

(01:24:19):
been in the in the region with.

Speaker 6 (01:24:20):
Them, right, yes, sir, I mean I think for a
while back in the day that yeah, they may have
been smaller one yeah, coach may be right, yeah six times.

Speaker 15 (01:24:31):
Did they know what?

Speaker 6 (01:24:33):
I think He's right? When they were one A I
think they were yeah, coaches, Yeah, thank you. I hate
to say, Jeff that they probably were. Yeah, go ahead, coach, though.

Speaker 1 (01:24:41):
I mean you want to talk about the defense a
little bit, Yeah, do that.

Speaker 35 (01:24:45):
A bunch of athletes on the field, long physical, got
some great players. Their ends I think are fantastic. The
size of the backers, I like them. They play with intensity,
So it's gonna be a great matchup. Well, Disie the team, Yeah,
they are. That's that's the thing when I when I
watched the film, very disciplined players one unit. But like said,
it just comes down to us aligning assignment, execution, and

(01:25:07):
and you know, I think we have what it takes
to just match, you know, with them and then play
with them and give them a good game. So, I mean,
we're excited to play. Obviously, it's great for our boys
to get this type of competition.

Speaker 1 (01:25:16):
It is it is, you know, because this is what you.

Speaker 35 (01:25:20):
Probably say if you want to go to the playoffs,
is what you're gonna see. So it's great to get
these matchups early in the season. It's always, especially us
being the offense.

Speaker 25 (01:25:27):
I love.

Speaker 3 (01:25:28):
I love these games early on just to get a
good look at what it looks like.

Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
Got a young quarterback too, but he's a great athlete,
you know. I think he told the ball about ninety
an hour baseball and uh he's his brother or brother?
Was they brother heard brothers? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:25:52):
Beings. I know they got one. It's about six four.

Speaker 15 (01:25:54):
Yeah, number four, Yeah, I think number four.

Speaker 6 (01:25:58):
Great athlete.

Speaker 15 (01:26:01):
Yeah, that's very very high play.

Speaker 6 (01:26:03):
So that's yeah, I figured who you were saying that.

Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
Yeah, they they got another talk one on the other end.

Speaker 35 (01:26:11):
Yeah, another good one on the other end. So very
very equal all around. Like I said, just just sound
and physical. And so it's just gonna be a game
of physical checks out.

Speaker 6 (01:26:20):
What oh you always take care of us, y'all bring
us there. Look, y'all got tak care of it last time.
Let me say this though, y'all have used this word
a lot. Physical. That's what I think about when I
think of Real Town and coach John I do. Their
football team will hit you the right way. Now, they're

(01:26:40):
going to hitch. They'll help you up, hit you and
then hit you again, hit you again, and you gotta
be awithstand it. Not that we can. That's what y'all
used that term. And and they play with a lot
of class.

Speaker 20 (01:26:51):
And you do.

Speaker 6 (01:26:51):
You guys do too. It'll be a good one. Poker
is the place to be Friday night seven o'clock. Tell
me about your young boats real quick. How are they
doing the middle school, junior.

Speaker 1 (01:27:00):
Or whatever they're doing? Good man. We actually had to
counsel the game.

Speaker 34 (01:27:03):
Okay, we double booked it, so we'll play again next
week and then we'll play baute at the end. So yeah,
they're doing good though they're still working. Prating Hartschel. That's
about those guys.

Speaker 1 (01:27:12):
It's the future that cause there it is.

Speaker 6 (01:27:13):
Yes, it is. Congrats on that first appreciate Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:27:17):
Hey, my father my birthday then.

Speaker 6 (01:27:18):
Yeah you got seven zero my butt, Happy birthday, Danny.
There you go, a big man. Your son in law
is on the way. Good win over the fat last week.
We're gonna take a break come back, I believe op
Like or a Beutile. I'm not sure who's next, but
they are coming your way. From Mose Barbecue High School

And they have a Saturday morning clinic that they open

And we appreciate Gory's Furniture Express for what they do
that brings this show to you live every Wednesday night.
As we continue, at least got Academy joins us. We
got coach Buster Daniel. His warriors are about said three

(01:28:26):
coach four, and we're moving right along. Good evening, coach,
how are you man?

Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
I'm doing wonderful?

Speaker 10 (01:28:30):
De Mark, how are you to not?

Speaker 6 (01:28:31):
I'm good coach?

Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
This afternoon? I say, tonight it's not even dark.

Speaker 6 (01:28:34):
No, it's not.

Speaker 10 (01:28:35):
It's a great day.

Speaker 6 (01:28:35):
And you know what, I'm glad you. I missed your
interview last week because I think I was I don't
know what I was doing, but the way we changed
the bat ticket, that's what you want. Yeah, probably so anyway,
good win last week, coach, you beat you the twenty
four to seven in front of a good crowd at
your field. I came up about midway through the second quarter,
and you guys are you know it was a good

(01:28:58):
football game. I'll let you talk about that and then
we'll talk absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
Absolutely it was a great, great crowd.

Speaker 36 (01:29:02):
You know what you expect with two undefeated teams at
the time and region game. And you know, it don't
matter where you are, d Mark you you agree with this,
I know, but any any town or city you're in
when your high school teams play and you are to
roll up sidewalks.

Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
And everybody go and uh, it was a good crowd
on both sides.

Speaker 36 (01:29:18):
You know, kids out there playing, moms and dads in
chairs and bleachers and all that good stuff. But it
was a great crowd and it was a good football game.

Speaker 8 (01:29:26):
I was really proud of our guys.

Speaker 6 (01:29:27):
Yeah, Coach, it was about of two teams in your reagion,
both of your unbeaten, but your team pretty much controlled
that football game. Coach, I don't mean in my opinion. Now,
I'll let you talk about that and then I'll let
you talk about.

Speaker 36 (01:29:37):
These Yeah, I mean, I got our guys played really well,
and we knew going in that we had to play good.
It was a good football team. We were playing like
again they were unefeeders, like we were reaching game. You
know that's uh, I think you mentioned last week with
Jeff mentioned as best start they've had in history.

Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
Three and oh. I mean they were playing really well.
Good football team, you know, well coached.

Speaker 36 (01:29:56):
They do a lot of things offensively, good defense, We
had a lot of athletes and you know, and uh
we had to hemn those guys up and and I
deepen did a great job. And uh, our offense guys
did a good job too, putting that many points on
the board. And now you know they they had the
opening kick off, they they fumbled and gave us a
short field which took advantage of it. But you know,
that's a great way to start for us. And uh,
but but I was really proud of our guys and uh,

(01:30:17):
you know, we we deal what it took to win.

Speaker 6 (01:30:19):
We're talking at least got Academy coach the Warriors four
and o two and oh in region play. Coach Randolph
County Real Quick unbeaten three and oh leave two and
oh in the region. Yes, they are good as a
region game.

Speaker 1 (01:30:30):
Talk to it.

Speaker 36 (01:30:30):
Absolutely good football team. You know, they they're one of
those teams that comes straight at you and no surprises.
They gonna line up run football straight at you. You know,
it's old school football. I told our guys, I think yesterday,
uh we had an old slabyknock or practice for We
got after a little bit and Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
I told them, I look all these old coaches y'all
got out here. That's the way we used to practice.

Speaker 37 (01:30:48):
You know.

Speaker 36 (01:30:48):
We would do fundamentals for about thirty minutes and then
scrimmage for three and a half hours.

Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
So you know, that's just that's just the way they are.

Speaker 28 (01:30:54):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:30:55):
They don't have any surprises.

Speaker 36 (01:30:56):
They're under center, they run the wishbone, they run the
power eye, they on the eye. They if they put
out a receiver. Uh, I think it's just for decoration.
But a really good football team.

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
Uh uh.

Speaker 36 (01:31:07):
That's one of those towns that rolls upsidewalk like I
talk about, and everybody goes the game so there's nothing
else going on and we die with that night. So
I'm looking for a really good football game. Our guys
are excited about playing. It's gonna be a great atmosphere.
You know, they're well coached. Uh, coach pressure have been
there for a long time. He does a great job,
you know, and uh, we just we're just looking forward

(01:31:28):
to playing on Friday.

Speaker 6 (01:31:29):
All right to me, I know one of these young
men right here, I know Hayden. I'll let you tell
everybody about.

Speaker 2 (01:31:33):
Yep, Hayden.

Speaker 8 (01:31:35):
Kelly.

Speaker 36 (01:31:35):
Hayden's been with me a long time. Man, great kid,
and he just works his tail off. You can look
at him. Tell he's been in the weight room. He
just he fell in love with the weight room. He
does a great job for us. Good kid plays mostly
defensive line and uh and then holds that down there,
does a great job. And he will play a little
bit offensive tackle for us. How he had to come
in at Loach poker game. He just talked about to
him and play some offense for us. But you know,

(01:31:56):
anytime we call on him, and you know, you know
he's he's there to do what we need him to do.
But just a great, great football player and a great
young man. And uh this other guy, uh had a
big article on him in the paper this week. Uh
Parker or Balls from Missouri. Yeah, he's he's never played
football before. And if you were at the game last
week or listen to the game or watched anything about it.

(01:32:18):
He had a forty two yard field goal with three
seconds going the first out.

Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
I saw just huge, huge force, you know, and and
he had like it was nothing, and it really you know.

Speaker 36 (01:32:27):
I told the reporters after the game that he was
talking about him, you know, the BEAUTI call time out
trying to ice him, and I said, you know, you
can't ice a guy that don't know. He's supposed to
be nervous, and he doesn't. He just he just goes
and does his job.

Speaker 8 (01:32:38):
And man, he is.

Speaker 36 (01:32:39):
He come in here in the summer and we don't
nothing about him. He knew nothing about us. Uh, he
decided to get football to try and he has went
gone to work on his kicking and he does a
great job. You see him kicking the ball in end
zone off the kickoffs, and you know, he just knocks
the extra point after extra point through and finally got
an opportunity to to make a field goal.

Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
Man, he just knocked it through.

Speaker 6 (01:32:58):
You didn't hesitate, you seen him on out there. Parker
a bit. Yeah, we'll get to you. And just second,
Hayden Parker's good to see you.

Speaker 14 (01:33:03):
Good to see you.

Speaker 6 (01:33:04):
Yeah, So football, are you liking it?

Speaker 14 (01:33:06):
I'm loving it, are you now?

Speaker 1 (01:33:08):
You did?

Speaker 6 (01:33:08):
You're on something else? Becide you don't you do something
elpercise kick? Because you recovered a fumble the other night.

Speaker 37 (01:33:13):
Right, yes, sir, So I'm on kickoff and then extra
points and field goals, and then I'm also on punk return.

Speaker 6 (01:33:20):
Okay, when you went out the other night and knocked
that forty seven, I think forty two two? It went
through at a pretty good leg. What were thinking when
you went out there?

Speaker 37 (01:33:30):
To be honest, I thought we took the time out,
so I wasn't. I also thought it was a lot
closer than it was. I wasn't really that nervous, but
uh happy you went through that.

Speaker 6 (01:33:38):
Didn't even bother the time out?

Speaker 8 (01:33:40):
Did that? Didn't you even?

Speaker 25 (01:33:42):
No?

Speaker 14 (01:33:42):
I felt like I gave me more time to prepare
for it.

Speaker 6 (01:33:44):
I was about to say that you felt like you
was at your best? Kick you can you nailed it
pretty good.

Speaker 14 (01:33:49):
That was definitely one of my better ones.

Speaker 6 (01:33:50):
There you go, all right, So you you're looking forward
to continuing the season, Yes, sir, I'm sure how far
were you letting kick it?

Speaker 8 (01:33:57):
Coach?

Speaker 2 (01:33:57):
Hey, listen that that one have been good.

Speaker 6 (01:33:59):
I think it went I was on the side. It
went deep.

Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
Depends on situation. You know, we may give him a
chance kick a little further. But I mean, I think
we're good anywhere from thirty five in. That's you know,
it's chip shot.

Speaker 36 (01:34:10):
But you know it depends on situation in the weather
and all that stuff. But hey, we trust him. You
know some of the kids are setting the paper that
they trust him.

Speaker 6 (01:34:17):
Yeah, I saw that.

Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
Hey, we will throw him back out there again.

Speaker 6 (01:34:20):
If it goes and the ends and get it back
to the twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:34:22):
There you go, there you go.

Speaker 6 (01:34:23):
All right, Hayden. I've watched you play a couple of years.
You've been a heck of a defensive player for at
least got you also played the offense I think against poker.

Speaker 1 (01:34:29):
Yes, sir, So tell me.

Speaker 6 (01:34:30):
How your season's going. How's everything?

Speaker 26 (01:34:31):
Season's going well, the team's looking good. Excited to out
there and play. And decided to help the team where
I can.

Speaker 6 (01:34:37):
All right, you four to o got Randolph County this week.
So we talked about with coach Daniels about beating Bulia.
So I'll have to say this coach. I talked to
him Sunday at west Ridge. He gave me the perfect
he laid it out for me this week and he
was right about the mule. So I want you to
tell me about Randolph County. What are you thinking. You
don't have to, you know, do what you did and
with me Sunday, but do a little bit of it.

Speaker 15 (01:34:58):
Yes, sir, they run the wishbone.

Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
So it's gonna be a physical game.

Speaker 26 (01:35:01):
You know, there's a lot of it's down the trench,
you know, defensive line, offensive line getting after it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:06):
That's gonna termine the game.

Speaker 20 (01:35:08):
So I'm hoping to set the tone early and just
be tough.

Speaker 6 (01:35:11):
So the you know, they like to line up and
just yes, sir, you up to the task, sir? All right,
what about everybody else?

Speaker 1 (01:35:17):
They're all on board, are looking forward to it. All right.

Speaker 6 (01:35:20):
We talked. I've asked this question to everybody, and I'll
ask you. I've talked to you about difference between ASA
and what you've seen so far in HSA.

Speaker 26 (01:35:28):
Just athletes, just higher caliber of athletes out there, and
you know, just better football speed, sir, speed and strength
and just all.

Speaker 6 (01:35:37):
Y'all held your on, sir. Yeah, So this week has
it been good?

Speaker 26 (01:35:41):
Yes, sir, have a good week of practice, good week
of preparation and everybody's excited looking forward to next game.

Speaker 6 (01:35:46):
Okay, now you got an early practice. It in the morning,
the early practice, sir. We're still rushing in there, are
getting the early start. You like that, Parker.

Speaker 14 (01:35:56):
It's definitely been rough waking up in the morning.

Speaker 15 (01:35:58):
Picture that's right there.

Speaker 6 (01:36:01):
That's you're not used to that.

Speaker 37 (01:36:03):
Huh no, sir, But team still has a ton of
energy in the morning, so it mexic fun.

Speaker 6 (01:36:08):
Now you're off that afternoon though, right, yes, sir, you
proud Thursday afternoon? Right, yes, sir, Parker is good to
meet you, man, And I mean I'm glad you're you're
playing for your senior yes, sir, So you're playing soccer, I.

Speaker 14 (01:36:17):
Know, right, I think so, Yes, sir, I hope so
the way you kicked the ball.

Speaker 6 (01:36:22):
Yes, coach, good job, congrats on an excellent start, Coach.
I was really proud of your crowd. And man, good job, Hayden.
Keep up the good work.

Speaker 14 (01:36:29):
Man.

Speaker 6 (01:36:29):
You're making tackles every night and and did a good
job blocking two weeks ago, I guess two weeks ago.
So you keep up the good work. All right, all right,
at least got academy big big game this week. An'st
Randolph County on the road on the week. All right,
we'll continue with the High School Coaching Show from Mose Barbecue.

Good to see it's your first time on the radio
in it. Yes, sir, would you say you had a
face for radio or face for TV?

Speaker 38 (01:37:34):
Now you got face for TV, voice for radio.

Speaker 6 (01:37:37):
Girls, Dad, That's what I'm talking a b O U T.

Speaker 38 (01:37:41):
Nobody loves you more than who though.

Speaker 8 (01:37:43):
Mom me into that.

Speaker 6 (01:37:44):
Now I hear you about that. You can give your
mama shout out right now tell you I love you
there you go. Mom loves you back. I can hear yell.
That's right now, all right, Omar's good to see you.
A good running back, buddy. I've watched you play for
a couple of years now, and you're doing really well.
You're gonna sit out tomorrownight Friday night. You're gonna sit
with this, sit this one out.

Speaker 8 (01:38:02):
Now, you know.

Speaker 6 (01:38:06):
Coach good Win? Last week, yes, sir, great best day
of you. Let's talk about that and then we'll come
back and okay, with.

Speaker 39 (01:38:10):
The great win last week, you know, on what I had,
I think twenty four carries, one hundred and fifty five
yards and three touchdowns. Jackson Kilgore had over three hundred
fifty yards of total offense. He was very efficient Friday night.
I think he was twenty three for twenty eight or
something like that. Something crazy.

Speaker 38 (01:38:28):
He's he's completing seventy nine percent of his balls right now,
you know. So that's that's pretty efficient.

Speaker 1 (01:38:33):
Is there anybody in the Is anybody in the state
complete that kind of.

Speaker 6 (01:38:37):
I don't know if they are. They're really good.

Speaker 39 (01:38:40):
He's had a great year he had. He also rushed
for over one hundred yards last week. You know, so, uh,
Peyton Pott had a really good game. He had over
one hundred and fifty yard total yards last week. You know,
we we we played really good last week, especially in
the second half. We came out in the second half
and and really our offensive line looked really good.

Speaker 8 (01:39:00):
Of the defense.

Speaker 39 (01:39:00):
Defense didn't give up anything second half, you know, so
really impressed with the way we played second half.

Speaker 6 (01:39:06):
Last I was just thinking about something. This is, you know,
young man from over the key kid hadn't missed many
passes twenty He's probably hasn't thrown as many, but I
bet he's like ten for twelve, Yeah, ten for twelve
and eight. I bet he hadn't. I bet he's Kobe's
a good player. Yeah, he's over there with us.

Speaker 39 (01:39:24):
You know that's right for eighth grader. And then he
then he went the door and as a nighth grader,
and I.

Speaker 6 (01:39:30):
Just thought about looking at his stats, he's very high percentage. Yeah,
but anyway, not you were just too much a quarterback.
He's played good. Absolutely, that young man right there played good.
Oh yeah, I was there.

Speaker 39 (01:39:40):
Oh yeah, he's he's played. He hasn't played much. He
played a couple drives second half played he played. I
think he played a half the first game, so he's
he's sitting with you know, he's right at We got
three hundred something yards right now and seven touchdowns in
two games.

Speaker 3 (01:39:58):
So what I want, I'm right about it.

Speaker 35 (01:40:00):
I think I like eight touchdowns eight to seven, so
down I think to eighty maybe too many.

Speaker 38 (01:40:06):
So he's had a really really good start to the season.

Speaker 39 (01:40:09):
You know, we want to keep him fresh for or
later on down the line, you know for these games
right here, the region games, you know open like got
Enterprise coming up.

Speaker 38 (01:40:18):
You know, this is a big one this week. Y'all
know that ninety nine times.

Speaker 6 (01:40:22):
That's the ninety ninth time up like an Aubus And
it's crazy.

Speaker 38 (01:40:26):
It's so close.

Speaker 6 (01:40:27):
Forty eight forty eight, forty forty seven and is three
Did you know that onmore I did? It was one
forty eight. Reckon, we won forty eight, Like it's one
forty seven and you've had three ties about that game,
league coach did y'all was behind when you got here,
you were, oh yeah you won. You made that three
straight wins, you put them over the top.

Speaker 38 (01:40:47):
Yeah, you got good players, wore straight wins.

Speaker 6 (01:40:50):
Thank you. You predicted it all right, said one more time.
I'm just kidding on more, you kidding, so, but go ahead, coach.
Yeah yeah, great job there again.

Speaker 39 (01:40:58):
I've had some great kids, man, and this it's been
a blessing to coach these guys. It's a great group
this year. You know, they buy in the They worked
tremendously hard at practice every single day. And you know,
and I'm surrounded by some great coaches to coach, ghouls
be on the defensive side, coach wagoning on the offensive side,
you know, and all those guys that that just they

(01:41:20):
get in there and they they're you know, we I
think our kids and our coaches truly live up to
that motto blue collar mentality. They get in there and
they work.

Speaker 38 (01:41:29):
So it's really really fun, really fun.

Speaker 1 (01:41:31):
To coach with.

Speaker 38 (01:41:32):
With the coaches I coach with and coach the kids
that I coach. You know, you got guys like Omar.
They make it easy, make it easy to coach well,
and not only not only as student athletes. You know,
they like take Omar friends. Omar is a four corners too.

Speaker 6 (01:41:49):
You know, I was two MPE big man.

Speaker 39 (01:41:54):
So we've got a lot of those guys. They're great
in the classroom too, and it makes it it makes
it easy. I mean we we checked from the sideline,
everything from the sideline, and it's you know, our guys.
Our guys pick up really fast, so makes it easy
to coach.

Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
I was gonna ask some well, you know what we
see is even my five year old grandson, he said,
we wear his bullet off.

Speaker 6 (01:42:19):
We we two bullet all graduates though we love Miss
ethrids to Chester is trying to take care of her
running back over here. What were you about to.

Speaker 1 (01:42:27):
Say, just I mean, I mean everybody, everybody games kids,
even the little kids, they're in there. They're probably in
there offering stuff and they're in op like and stuff
here and oh.

Speaker 38 (01:42:39):
There's little kids.

Speaker 39 (01:42:40):
I guarantee you a little little second third grader's got
on one maps in Jersey.

Speaker 6 (01:42:46):
So, I mean, that's the way it is, this game.

Speaker 1 (01:42:48):
Because what it's about.

Speaker 6 (01:42:49):
You've been in three up and down and up, and
it's atmosphere.

Speaker 39 (01:42:55):
You know, it's one of the best atmospheres. I want
you to say, I've ever been around there.

Speaker 6 (01:43:00):
You hear that five state champions and he just said.

Speaker 39 (01:43:03):
That it's a big time playoff atmosphere. Every time you
play in this game because of the crowd, because of
the the you know just what it means to both
communities and things, you know, and the and the good
thing is when it's over, it's over, you know.

Speaker 8 (01:43:17):
Don't you know?

Speaker 39 (01:43:18):
The kids still get along, They still and they automatical.
As soon as it's over it they start talking about
next year, or we'll see y'all in the playoffs or
you know so, and.

Speaker 6 (01:43:28):
That's what it's about. Well, it's a it's been an
incredible rival your rivalry. You're right, coach, it's been uh
and you've been and you told me when you live.
I told you the first night you were going to
Boodlog Stadium and you called me and said, man, what
you and your wife for talking about an atmosphere? And
it's something else. Now it'll get to you as a player.
What do you think about that? When you come out
and you see that stadium like that?

Speaker 15 (01:43:49):
I get real hype. That's that's all I can say.
I get real hype.

Speaker 6 (01:43:53):
Do you notice it once the game starts?

Speaker 3 (01:43:55):
I kind of tune it out, kind of just tune
the crowd out. Just focus on the game, focus on
the team.

Speaker 6 (01:44:00):
Do you ever hear the crowd?

Speaker 1 (01:44:02):
Good?

Speaker 6 (01:44:02):
Win or lose. I mean winning or losing all bad
or good.

Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
Only way we're doing good. That's when I hear it.

Speaker 1 (01:44:07):
Do you do you feed off of it?

Speaker 6 (01:44:08):
If you don't hear it, I guess you can't. Can
you just kind of stay focused?

Speaker 3 (01:44:11):
I just try to stay focused on the game.

Speaker 6 (01:44:13):
What's this game like when you're playing against Plucking? Any different?

Speaker 3 (01:44:19):
Just another game? Is it's another game, another win. That's
what we try to do every week.

Speaker 6 (01:44:24):
That's the way both teams usually get out there and
once the game gets started, you just kind of play it. Yes,
there man, there you go. Anything you'd like to say
about it, getting ready for it, playing the game. What
do you think about Oplucker's team? What you've seen?

Speaker 3 (01:44:36):
They got a real good team. And so we just
got to come out there and just we got to
be on our a game.

Speaker 35 (01:44:41):
Everybody, the wire sears, old line defense, everybody got to
be on their game.

Speaker 6 (01:44:45):
I see why you got a four point Oh that's right,
tells a young man coach special teams, you got one
kicking at all university. That was congratulates to him. I
know it's I hate the young man's hurt, but proud
for towns. I sat there and watched him kick that
sixty yards against ye at one months with you messing
with coach Bennett at Enterprise. Phenomenal young man. But talk
about your special teams going into it can come down

(01:45:07):
till Friday night.

Speaker 39 (01:45:08):
Absolutely, And we got we got another kicker who's really good.
He's good at from fifty end. I think that Joe's
really good. He's also doing some of our punt and stuff,
you know, so he's done a really good job there.
You know, we've got some you know, we've got some
guys who were flying down on on on kickoff coverage.

Speaker 8 (01:45:26):
You know, we gave up kickoff.

Speaker 39 (01:45:27):
Return last week. That was one of their scores. So
we've we've sort of secured that up and hopefully we
got that fixed. And uh, you know, I think special
teams and special teams plays a big part in this game.
I think a couple of years ago, my first year
over to Opa Laika, you know when we played over

(01:45:47):
there that my first year, up like a block of
field goals right there before you know, before half or
right after half or whatever, and it sort of got us,
got them the ball back and they end up scoring
right before half and we were up. I think fourteen,
and they got right back in the game and it
was or maybe they even went up ten to seven
or something like that, but it was all those games

(01:46:11):
had been close, even last year. Yeah, oh that was
the last thirty one square up and we scored thirty one.
We scored thirty one seconds.

Speaker 6 (01:46:19):
Yeah. I didn't even realize that about that.

Speaker 39 (01:46:22):
But it was, you know, great football game, this one
right here, had a big game in that game. Had
close to two hundred in that game, so you know,
totally yards. You know, he caught some passes, made some
great runs in that game. So you know, it's the
atmosphere and it's going to be a great game Friday night.

Speaker 6 (01:46:38):
So that old mare. Nice to see. Good to see
you too, Good luck Friday. Okay, hey all right, keep
that full point o up. Okay, yes, sir, all right,
coach aches, I love you, buddy, appreciate your family, all

Speaker 1 (01:46:56):

Speaker 8 (01:46:57):
We got another one.

Speaker 6 (01:46:58):
