Barbecue Bent Creaking Auburn. Here's dMark Mitchell and good afternoon, everybody,

(00:27):
and welcome to mos Barbecue or theHigh School Coaches Show presented by the Orthopeta
Clinic. Deep Mark Mitchell, JeffSasser, Jason League, Van Riggs was
running somewhere in a bunch of highschool coaches and folks out here eating at
most barbecue bent Creaking Auburn on anabsurlutely picture perfect Wednesday evening by four.

(00:50):
The best we've had it as faras fitling, mister sassor, oh,
no question. Last week was nice. It was not this one. It's
better. And yeah, I'm gonnalet you start. We got the bally
Rams coach, Tie Steel, Yes, sir, coach Steve no kin to
Kevin steele Ken his family's not steelchainsaws. There you go, we already
found all that, right, CoachSteel, good to talk to you,
tonight, good evening. Oh well, hold on, we're gonna start over

(01:12):
now. We're glad to have you. Coach. No, we're not good
to you. We're gonna go tothat fourth and Mike, we're gonna get
it up. There we go,lockt Ina. Now we we got you,
We got you now. Coach Goodwinlast week, now got offensive coordinator.
Yes, sir, so Goodwin lastweek. That puts you guys.
Well, let me back up makinglet me get the exact score. You
won, uh thirty four ten,so over Silicoga moved you to three and

(01:34):
one. But most importantly, twoand oh in the region. That's what
we preached all week. Two andon in the region. We ain't seen
in a long time in Valley.I wanted to say, it's five or
six years since we've been two andoh in the region. Start off with,
so kids have really bought in.We're enjoying practice. With them being
bought in. You know, youain't gotta pull too many teeth out there,
not much too much yelling getting onthem. They kind of pushing themselves.

(01:56):
So when they do that, andthen you got weather like this,
it's like clocking in and going tothe beach and having a good time.
All right, coach are opened thisweek. Uh so let's let's recap a
little bit. We got a littletime to talk talk about the win.
Who played well last week beating uhTalent no no, no, no,
beating Ulco. Last week. Iwas the front looked great both sides of
the ball, offensive defense. Veryproud of those guys, you know,

(02:21):
being the offensive cord. Now.I still look after the old line in
practice day to day. So youknow, I told him, I said,
you're the last ones to get praised, but you're the first ones to
get blamed. You know, it'sit's the unsung hero. But I've been
very proud. We had a seniorthat went down, had to have a
mergency risk surgery, so I toldhim, I said, let's play for
him. He's gonna be out fiveto six weeks. So you'd hear that.

(02:44):
That's right, you know, onlysenior on the line, and he
was the one that you know, bit the injury bug. But we picked
up coach, excuse me? Wasthis? Did this happened last week?
Uh? It happened Lynette games andhe played a week board guard and then
he went in for uh the morehour results and they was like shut it
down at third three that Thursday lastweek, didn't play last week and uh

(03:06):
tiling Carroll finally got into the endzone. Uh. He's been working hard
all year and finally got rewarded forit. And I think he went for
two twenty seven and two touch stas. That's strong. Now this is who
tyling Carroll the running back for US. Okay, all right, now,
we talked a lot about your quarterback, Cam Dooley. Bit can't beat doing.
Yeah, but that's a two headedthat's two stuff. That's what I

(03:28):
tell him. You know, it'sit's hard to get rid of during the
week when you can have two orthree that can come at you. We
got some receivers on the outside, they can go and catch it. Jay
Harper was out last week. Wemissed him. He and Krim had a
I think a slight high ankle sprain. But you know, Brandon Thomas,
he come in. He still builtus out. Jaden Thomas on the outside

(03:49):
also. So it's a lot ofkids out there that's working hard and we
were all for it and we're lovingit. When you got four or five
folks you can give the ball toand you can trust them. It makes
it a whole easy to look downat that playbook and say what you want
to run. We're talking to offensivecoordinator at Valley High School, Coach Still
the Rams three and one, twoand oh in region play most and pointy

(04:09):
open this week, so kind ofwhat you you what have y'all done this
week? Coach is getting getting healthy? Yeah, I understand that. Trying
to get it back to where everybody'sone hundred percent or close to it.
We had a you know, Ithink it's seven that go both ways.
So you know, you ask alot of them and we've been getting a
lot out of'em, especially sincethe first week kind of got acclimated to

(04:30):
it. Excuse me. I hada bunch of them that played a bunch
of downs Friday, Uh Cam,you know two weeks ago when every play
offensive defense. So he's he's alittle banged up shoulder wise, he's coming
back, Like I said, IanKrim, He's coming back from a high
ankle, a little sprain. Uh. Jay's coming by. Jay Harper's coming
back from something. We've got someother few that's kind of banged up.

(04:53):
Just getting the feedback under this week. This week off of health, these
guys absolutely well, and then atRussell County at Russell K in another huge
region game. No, you're right, my bad, I forgot still a
big one. Yeah, it's thenext one. I was talking to some
guys from Valley and we were talking. We were talking about cam in Harper

(05:13):
and those those got one of themgoing to Wisconsin. Has committed to Wisconsin.
Yeah, He'shaisconsin. I know,Yeah I knew. And then uh,
Cam's committed to Missouri. Yeah,we were talking. We couldn't we
couldn't remember which one was going way. Yeah, we knew the schools,
but we got him confused. SoDooley is going to committed to Missouri SI
and the Harper's going to Wisconsin. That's awesome, coach. Still, it's

(05:34):
nice to see you shoot up straighton Fairfax. That's wrong, baby,
I love that. That's what hesaid he was from. And then I
don't know where happened to coach.I guess he's he didn't want to get
on the mic. Oh you wantedto, Well, hey, keep it
up. We carry the Rams onone hundred point nine to Bay. But
no action is to enjoy the openwe coach, we should appreciate you scribs.

(05:55):
That's what we're talking about. We'reat Most Barbecue High School Coaches presented
by the Orthopedic. Then it we'regonna take a break, come back and
talk a little Springwood Wildcats. Theylost a toughie last week in ot.
We'll be right back at Moles onthe High School Coaches Show on The Kicker
and Fox Sports The Game. Thankyou coach, Welcome back to Moles Barbecue.

(06:28):
De Mark, Jeff, Jason, and Van Ry. I got your
no, sir coach, No doyou no? Jason Jeff, You're just
discombobulated. But kid, I'm talking. I can listen. Listen every morning
he blames everything on you. Ohyou listen any morning? Yeah, he
does everything. See have you everseen have you ever met someone with such
a dark hard when he comes tohe's cold? He's cold, noll know

(06:53):
how you put up with hello cold? You even if you never least out
of babas on American not to bea Braves fan. He's got a hatred
for him. Then who takes you? Checking on you Friday night? Man?
You did? You took care ofme? All right? Yeah?
I was crying a little bit andyou uplifted me I'm good. We need
to get you on in the morning. I'll tell you what in the morning,

(07:14):
six thirties your time, seven thirtyeastern seven. Oh, I'm really
takes you right now because I ain'thad you on in the week. And
you can blame Saster coach. Allright, you had a toughie last week.
It was a great game. Imean, if you're you're a fan
watching it, you know, firsthalf, we came out and you know,
you undefeated and your kids think they'reworld beaters and you warn them all
week long about you gotta prepare andget ready and they don't listen to you.

(07:38):
And we came out and we playedterrible the first half and kind of
had a reality check on second half. It went back and forth, back
and forth. There's a great gameto watch, and uh, you know,
with a minute thirty we drive downthe field and score and tied up.
And you know, an eight manfootball kicking a PA taste tough because
you don't have you don't have thespace. So we put it in and

(08:00):
think we win. We got ahold a pen on tea and that just
kills you, you know, anduh, you know, we we decided
to kick it and so we backup, we kick it because you don't
have many fifteen yard two point conversionplays, and and we barely missed it.
It by it, you know, barely went left. And so we
go into overtime and and right, you know, we scored, they score,

(08:22):
but we didn't get our extra pointand they did, so a big
win for them. They've got agreat quarterback. You know, the kid
was worried about and and you knowhe both sides of the ball. He's
the heck of a player, anduh he really we didn't have many answers
for him, you know, fortyfour forty two. I didn't mention the
score overtime, right, so youscored in regulation, yep, so you
actually couldn't want it right there.Yeah, it's about thirty seconds left in

(08:45):
the game when we were able towe threw a little pass and went in
for the score and tied it upthen. So I mean that was greater.
We got down I think by elevenpoints at one point. Time.
Kids kept fighting, so that wasgood. They overcome some adversity, yea,
So maybe we learned something from it. You go Springwood Wildcat coach Birch
with us. They're four and onetough loss in overtime. Yes, kids,
with that soccer program, you don'thave a you have a if you're

(09:07):
going, yeah, we do,kid. It's an excellent kicker. I
was just curious. Even on kickoffs, he's pucked some in the end zone
and and he does a real goodjob placing the ball. But just with
the eight man football, you know, you got out even number. So
you've got a holder, you gota kicker, right, and then you
can only have one wing. Sowhere you don't have that wing, get
you got a real short edge.So we backed the holder up, got

(09:30):
it. That's one of the thingsyou do, and try to get one
more time. And we got thekick off, but but you know,
just a lot of pressure. Thatwas his first time to ever kick one
underneath that, and he just kindof booted it to the left a little
bit. Let me get a littleschool in history here. Do most teams
go for two every time? Coaches? At basically what you're telling me an
eight man Yeah, I was curiousabout that because you just explained it so

(09:50):
good. I never thought about thatbecause you're taking a couple of players away
when you doing short Yeah, you'reshorten Yeah, because you can't. You
don't have enough place. So comingoff that it is on one side,
you're gonna come off of it andyou can block. You were faced with
you were how far out? Ithink it was holding on the three.
Yeah, so you were back atthe eight years or something like that.
I get it. So we gaveit a shot to win it, and

(10:13):
you know didn't play out for us. Yeah, well that's all right.
We we'll move on from they playdo they play eleven and eight? They
play a combination of all right,we were looking at that. That's what
ye now you strictly eight because oneyear, No, that's Southern Prep.
They plays Southern Prop does some Ithink they played one yea, they played
Lake Sidey started a year all right, Springwood Wildcats, Southern Christian on the

(10:35):
road. Coach, they are onewin. They beat Trinity Christian, They
lost the Lighthouse and East Central EastCentral School. So tell me a little
about this program. Well, theydo a real good job, coach Scott
does getting those kids together. It'sa home school, a combination of a
lot. I think this is Ihope like it. Yes, yes,

(10:56):
we're gonna play at more states. That's so that'd be great. Uh.
I think they only have one seniormaybe a quarterback. You should not be
injured right now. So and they'llbe young and uh, you know,
we need to bounce back real wellcoming off our loss. And and we've
had a great week of practice preparing. Uh played a little JV game against

(11:16):
him Monday night. So against thisgroup, the group, So they're doing
a good job over their building aprogram. On coach, that's a good
job. Yes, yes, Iknow this is a younger program. Yeah,
haven't been in uh he's been coachingthis particularly. Yeah he has.
He's coached eight men around, butI think this group right here, He's
right, it's a new it's anew uh program. And they actually played,

(11:39):
like he said, played their gamesat More Stadium. Yeah, so
there you gonna have a son andlike led the nation. And he's got
five Yeah, he's got a bunch. Judd was like, man, he
yeah, he's about five hundreds games. Yeah, he was, all right.
Coach Birch, good see man,Yes, sir, we'll get you
on in the morning. You gotit right there too. That's Springwood Wildcat

(12:01):
coach Joey Burch. You got it. Speaking of eight man football, Southern
Prep when we come back to MostBarbecue. High School Coaches Show presented to
you by the author Pete Clinic.Every thank you, Hey, welcome back

(12:24):
to the High School Coaches Show, talked to you by Moles Original Barbecue.
And we're at Moles Original Barbecue rightnow. The author Peede Clinic pumping brakes,
getting sports the game and Lee Counties. You know about that ninety seven
point seven kicker, And we gotcoach Jones at Rolling Bell but Southern Preppic

(12:46):
coach, you're gonna have to helpme out with your other coach. Yet
we got we got coach Webb Newmanand coach Joe Webb web women, I
got over the tangle web we weyea. Hey, well, last week
we played Stewart County, Georgia. They liked it, man, they loved
coming to Alabama and played him.Uh they're like getting beat that's right,
Okay, alight, Hey last weekhe won five fourteen. Let's cover that

(13:07):
one briefly, and uh, heyyou're you're two and three, yes,
sir, So, Stewart County wontheir first game, uh fifty six thirty
four and their quarterback was just extremelyathletic. So basically we just built a
wall in front of them out ofquick guys and wouldn't let him go free,

(13:30):
and Healing broke through the line onetime picked up eleven yards and he
got frustrated and he was just runningaround, scrambling, throwing in completions,
throwing interceptions, and then they startedgetting what, let's just try to run
the ball and they didn't work either. Okay, all right? Hey for
uh for Southern Pratt. Who waswho was the big gun? Well,
mostly uh Kevin Mason. He wassecond on the teams and the tackles.

(13:56):
He had to pick six, whichhe had to he had to get up
to about the top of the backboardto snatch that one out of the air
and uh turn and went forty sevenyards with it after that, orty,
Yes, okay, I mean henever comes out of the game until we
tell him it's it's too far,get out of here. Yeah. He
And who was it last week? The young man Caleb Coult. Yeah,

(14:18):
he's both for big parts of thewin let two weeks ago. Right,
Oh, yes, sir, Iwas. They're big parts of every wine
White quarterback is Kevin's Kevin's the quarterbackand Caleb is one of the receivers and
one of the Caleb's a linebacker tworight and Caleb well they actually both played
right side linebacker for me. Okay, so they were the top two in

(14:39):
tackles playing defensive bat because they werejust trying to like I said, they
were trying to throw it, andwhen they couldn't throw it, they'd try
to run it. And you know, like I said, we just built
that wall in front of him andhe rarely ever broke through. All right,
Well, this week he got MattaView Christian Matta Views one in three.

(15:00):
Last year you beat him forty sevento twenty. What and you hadn't
sam on them this year? Allright? Well, last year we'd beat
him forty seven to zero and inthe regular season beat him forty seven.
Week that beat him forty seven twentyin the playoffs season. Okay, yeah,
we've been in forty seven twenty inthe playoffs. But you know last

(15:20):
year, after the you know, first quarter, you know, we we'd
break free and guys were taking kneeat the you know, the five of
the one, and we kick afield goal, you know, just trying
not to embarrass him in that. The second time we line up in a
pre event defense that just went upthe middle because if you can score,
you can score. If you can't, can't. And even on the goal

(15:41):
line, we stayed in a preevent. You know, you just want
them to have a little bit offun too. Sure. Absolutely, so
we have not seen film on them, but you know that that's okay.
Uh. You know, I taughtwith you know, coach Bird from spring
Wood, so I you know,I got a good idea of what they're
because I've got a new coach again. They've had a new coach near about

(16:03):
every year since I've been here, but you know that, so I got
an idea of what they like todo. But and you know, I
taught with their coach yesterday on thephone and I said, look, I'm
just gonna let you know, Ineed my offense to work out some kinks.
We've still got some issues, andyou know, we may put up
ninety, but I'm bringing my JVdefense. So if I give up fifty

(16:26):
or sixty, are you gonna begood with that? He said, that'll
work for me? Who said thatcoach? I'm not gonna embarrass him,
but uh, I mean that's youknow, assuming we can we can do
that. He's gonna score a bunchand he's gonna let them score a little
bit. So you're letting them knowthat. Yeah, I like that.
Is it gonna be that bad?Okay? Well, I mean so their

(16:49):
game against Springwood was fifty seven thirty, but Springwood had him forty two to
zero at the end of the firstguy that it's all you need to say.
Okay, all right, well goodfor you. Yeah, So how
many players will you play that though? I believe I'm taking twenty nine,
but that includes a bunch of JVguys. Okay, all right, have
y'all gotten better? How about you? You jump in there and tipic you

(17:12):
can coach the offense, yes, your corner, Yes, Okay, Like
I said, there's some racking upall that points. Yeah, we definitely
this week. I'm gonna try touh he said he had some kinks on
offense, and you try to getour passing game going a little bit before
we get in a deeper area play. So yeah, he's just give He's
given me the green light to justthrow it Awn the yard this week because

(17:32):
I think we played him last yearone of the matchups, we had like
three hundred yards rushing, no passingyards to the team this week, it's
to me the opposite. We're justgonna throw it all around and see what
we can do. All right,Any other kids, We'll talked about those
two young men. It was here, and I know he's down here and
talking. Any other kids I wantto talk about? Bring up? I
got about thirty seconds. Well, the last couple of weeks, Josiah Anderson,

(17:53):
a defensive end, has been rackingup sacks. The other defensive end,
August Rather, he's been racking upsacks and uh, Sam rolland even
a new kid this week, popUs Uh. Both of them a lot
of tackles for losses. And youknow they're they're all new to those positions,

(18:15):
all right, Thanks Coach Luck. This week High School Coaches Show continue
bright after this time out, andwelcome back to Most Barbecue High School Coaches

(18:37):
Show on The Kicker and Fox SportsThe Game, presented to you by the
Lord the Pete Clinic. We're hereevery Wednesday night, six to eight o'clock
on all three stations, on theiHeartRadio apps on all three of those stations,
and on Fox Sports The Game dotCom, Kicker FM dot com,
d Mark Jeff Van and of courseJason is doing all the work bands running
around talking. Yeah, and uh, Coach Eric Speedman's joins this, coach,

(18:57):
good evening, Hey, good evengood to see all, to see
you two. What we have tonight, Coach, I went with the fried
ribs. Really good. That's different. Yep, really good. I saw
him. They did look good.Yeah, they smoke them and then they
flash fry him and then serve themto flash. I guess just drop him
in there for just so okay, okay, interesting. Uh, they're in
Birmingham watching Bryce play. They playedin a big tournament up there today at

(19:21):
Hoover. A little fall so fallowvan over here clean. That's about what
he needs to be doing, cleaningup, cleaning up stuff, all right,
Coach lost a heartbreaker last week.I got to watch the end of
it, and then I'm didn't seethe end of it. So I guess
you could say I didn't see theend of it, but I heard about
it, like I was trying towatch it. Yeah, but I couldn't
get it off. Tough, toughway to lovers. You know, we

(19:42):
went down and played really well, probably our best game of the year.
You hate to say that you playedyour best and come out. But but
that's how it was. You know, we just we had a couple of
about four plays go the wrong wayfor us, especially Jeff and I were
just talking about that kickoff. Youknow, there's two forty three left in
the game, were three with threetime outs, and Johnny's been kicking the

(20:03):
ball really good, and there's alittle bit of wind in his face.
So he kicks it, and theball hits at the one and kicks about
twelve yards to the left, towardsthe center of the field. So he
kicks it and it hits on thehash, bounces to the middle. Their
kid runs over and actually kicks it. As he tries to pick it up,
it goes to the ten. WillOur kids had slowed down thinking the

(20:23):
ball was in the end zone whenit hit it the one. Well,
the kid picks it up then andtakes about three steps to the right and
gets outside of everybody, and therehe goes. Yeah, I was by
ninety nine ninety five some wearing thatball part when the game was three point
three points two three left, youhad just scored, Yeah, there was.
There were twenty one point scored inthirty two seconds in the game.

(20:45):
Unbelieved because they scored. We scoredon the first play of our possession.
We kicked off and they scored.Tim this before when you made it three,
how would they moving the ball? They were they they had. Yeah,
that's why we kicked it deep becausewe had three times. Yeah you
didn't call okay, okay, Yeah, we had three time outs left and
so you know, we were talkedabout on side and the sky is that
you know, they had sixty eightyards rushing total on the night and uh,

(21:07):
I think they had negative seven yardsrushing in the third quarter. So,
uh, he's gonna have to dosome stuff. You know, he's
gonna be uncomfortable trying to get theball out. So that's why we kicked
it deep. And just one ofthose flukey plays that that you see happen.
That's interesting. You think he wouldhave this is just kid. He
probably would have had to. Imean, he's got to run the football.
Yeah, you have to ask yeah, man, that's what we figured

(21:32):
you do. And we can't tryto get them and his punter, his
punter can't kick it real far.So we were hoping to get the ball
around midfield. You know, wouldsay two minutes to go. M needing
to fill gold of tie and atouchdown to win. So still, yep,
tough. It's two years in realquestion, she won't last. Yeah,
we won last year on you,so maybe we can. I talk
the kids. That's the game. And you know, a lot of they
weren't disappointed at you know, they'redisappointed the loss, but not disappointing how

(21:55):
they played. So yeah, uh, you know when I told him after
the game, you know, lastyear we beat this bunch and then we
didn't do anything after. So let'slet's reverse that and we lost to him
to night, and let's restart onMonday and move on to Prattle and uh
get them at home this Friday nighton a senior night. Real quickly,
it's like, gag, Now Idon't had a good night for you.
I think two sixty four. Maybeshe was a bunch. Yep, And

(22:15):
coach, you gotta hip And Ishould have sent that to Montgomery. I
feel that's fine. So he justyou know, yeah, but yeah,
I gotta do better. Well itme too, because I should a But
anyway, you know what I'm talkingabout. So a good job by Roman.
All right, coach, let's talkabout this week. We'll move on
that the prattl Lines come d comingin the first time since two thousand and
ten. I think yep. DeRock tweeted it out. He bank it

(22:37):
because we went over there in elevenand played and beat him. That year
they beat us really close game andten here when Dalton was our quarterback,
and then we went over there andbeat them in eleven year when we kicked
the field goal. Will Black kickedthat field goal. I tell Will every
time I see him, he's themost hated man in pratvle. Yeah he
wasn't and he's probably still is.Yeah, not really, but he was
at night. I forgot about that. So twenty ten interesting, yep,

(23:00):
so tell because they that year they'dcome off coach the Bows. They would
beat we Tonka seventy one and nothingthe week before we played them and remember
that, and well it's just wewere at the game and it was big.
Now he if I need to verifyit, I go to de Rock.
But but yeah, Friday night,uh be a big night for US
Senior night and another region game. You know, we gotta go. We

(23:21):
gotta continue to play well and getbetter, which I think we've done over
the last couple of weeks. So, uh, defensive line is playing really
well right now. Secondary played goodthe other night minus two plays and uh
and they were you know, oneof them we're in position and just didn't
make the play and the other wejust probably played a little poor technique on
a fourth and six. But otherthan that, they played well. Offensive
line played well. We we hada seventeen played drive. So I thought

(23:44):
that was big the other night. And it's a really good defense. So
uh, you know, it'd bebig for us this Friday to be able
to run the football. They havesome really tall receivers too. Yeah,
they've got the kid going to Texasnow and that's huge. Uh. The
other kids were just fast, uhnot so tall, but but it's fast
at Phoenix CN. But that kid, you know, if you earned five
stars, and that kid's every bitof it. He made a play on

(24:04):
the first play they had it.He jumped, you know, he jumped.
We could have stacked three dbs ontop of each other and not gotten
to where he jumped. So agood player for them, but be a
big one for us this Friday night. Yeah. They lost last week to
Dope and scored twenty four lost.Yeah they Yeah, that one got a
little. It was really weird. The dopin scored a lot really late,

(24:25):
kept going for two. I don'tknow what the deal was with that,
but uh, they you know,it's a couple of pratt will trying to
come back and throw a pick six, and a couple of other things happened
that got the game got out ofhand. I was about to ask you
why you have seen you night, but I realized you play Auburn. The
other play Oh, I can't here. Auburn is not gonna be homecoming or
senior n And they asked me notto do homecoming early in the year.

(24:45):
So I said, well, great, You're not leaving me many options.
So this is it. So thisis it all right? Coach? Thanks,
Thanks good Friday hunt. Okay, dogs played Prattle at home seven o'clock.

about ten kids not going both ways? All right, wait minute, going

Uh? Inside linebackers? There yougo, Yeah, there you go.
Good for you, Good for you? All right, coach talk a bit

(27:48):
about playing poke up. You've hadi mean another suck. Excuse me,
You've had good success with him.But you know this is a it's thirty
four fifteen all time, by theway, But you know it's kindn't pulled
in this game. Yeah, it'sa big region game. It's it's it's
a big region game. And thething is about the community, community to
get behind. It's a big rivalgame. You know. The people gonna
go to church together. Yeah thatSunday, gonna see each other. Stories,

(28:11):
they're gonna see some of them arerelatively gonna see each other. Family
unions and stuff like that. Sothe thing is, you know, even
though it's a rival game, it'sstill a big game for the community.
Also, yeah, talk about anothershugge. What do what he said?
No, the Saugats, like Isaid, they had a great team.
Coach Jones gonna have those guys readyto play, no matter what the record
is. You gotta throw that out. No matter you know who coming in

(28:32):
and doing this, who coming inand doing that. The records done goes
and affect this game right here, because you know, cause John was always
gonna have a guy prepared and readyto play football. What about your Indians?
Are they ready to coach? Yes, sir, they're ready, and
you're read they're ready to step itup. You know, it's like I
say, rivalry rival week, soyou know they're ready to play. Yeah,
we had a good week of practice, so I think they're they're ready
to step up to chide. They'vegot some They've got some young kids too

(28:55):
to take place. So it'll beinteresting kicking game. Who wins it?
Hopefully we went all three. Afterwe went all three, you got it
down right, got it down right, so you're going to notice. Soa
y'all got a long ride. Y'allyeah. Long, I'm sure y'all charted

Buster Daniel Good even the coach goodt I'm a little out here. Yeah
you're a little loud Good No braveJo No, no, Well, I

(30:03):
can't talk to day. They gotbeaten in the Jeff, oh did we
lose it? I wasn't going tobring that. Well, let's talking about
they had eleven twenty post time.I didn't know they were playing that early.
But yeah, we're gonna talk. We're gonna waste our time on no.
All right, let's talk about thereal Endian Warriors tough game. Last

(30:23):
week, coach introduced his young mento you'll live right here to our listeners.
Yeah, we got uh Walker Fisherhere tonight. Uh Walker is a
senior, Uh first year playing forme. I've been after this joke for
three years and play football. Heplayed basketball the whole career. There.
I think, run a little track. What else you done? Soccer?
Ran track? Soccer? Soccer? That's what? No track. But I've
been I've been trying to get himplayed for three years. He finally caved

(30:45):
in this year, and he isdoing an outstanding job for us. He's
a you know, he plays alittle bit of receiver mostly dB plays corner
for us, and uh, youknow, we'd have to call him a
shutdown guy. He will hit you. He does a great job for us,
and uh, you know, justjust rould to have him. He's
buying young man. He is Walker. What's going on, buddy? Not
much? How you do more good? It's good to see. I call
Walker Fish, but I won't keepthat out there. He's one of the

(31:08):
Ridge Boys. Goach, did youknow that walker tough game last week you
played Glennwood? Yes, sir,all right, so before we talk about
that, you come back to football. So Timmy, how it's been for
you since you've been out there. It's been a great time just getting on
the field Friday nights. It's beenexciting. Tough game Friday. Yeah,
it was tough Onny, sir.Yeah, what do you think about it?
I think our offense played great, quarterback played great defense, let up

(31:33):
too many points. Can't let upforty something points and have a win.
We'll see him again and we'll hopefullyyou will, sir, and uh,
we'll get him next time. Yeah, he had four hundred and something yards
offense, gave up a little up. It was a high. Kind of
surprised me a little bit. Idon't know what's your thoughts on that.
Well, you know, he hadtwo really good offenses. I get two

(31:56):
good defense. So listen, Uh, both offensive played well Friday night.
You know, it had a lotof yards on our side, had a
couple of calls back and you knowthat's part of the game. You know,
now, you don'tbodys do anything onpurpose, but you know, uh
had a long pass callback, Uhwe had Uh, we threw two interceptions,
missed some blocks. I mean itwas it was a little bit across
the board. Everybody had to playin it. Defense, we didn't tackle

(32:19):
very well and we're in a positionwe just didn't make plays. And uh
but like I said, we youknow, we worked on at least God
this week got better. But uh, it was a really good football game,
which you expect playing one and versustwo, you know where, don't
mat if it's a publics group ofprivates, good doesn't matter. If you
got one versus two, it's gonnabe be a good football game. And
I thought it was just you know, two teams going tote to toe throwing
blows. And now that second whatit was. And uh, it was

(32:39):
enjoyable night. You know, wecause we came out on short end,
but hey, we'll be back again. I agree with it wasn't It was
a good game. They had alot of big plays. Sure didn't you
know, I ain't blaming that ondefense or anything, but they did.
You know, they had a lotof big years they had back from last
year's team. Because I know forsure the quarterback I was gonna say running
the back. He played wing backlast year, our white position, we

(33:01):
called it. But which one diduh? Judah okay juda was what he
played? Used the starting run tomake this year okay off inside the ball?
They had Uh, Mason mccrane back. Uh, what's the what's the
Uh? He's number three this year, number forty two last I can't call
his name. Oh white, Yes, yes, and he played most of
defense last year. But man,I tell you what he has improved.

(33:22):
He was outstanding Friday night with themthe receiver, but uh, good football
player. Uh had a lot ofguys return. They got a lot of
new guys on the roster, butuh, you know, had a lot
of new offensive linement, I think, but they were a lot better up
front this year. You had won. You guys had won twenty three I
think in a row or something likethat, twenty three or twenty four out
of twenty five. I don't meanit was time. But they played good.

(33:43):
You know what I mean? Youguys didn't play too bad yourself,
coach, but it was kind oflike three in a row fixing befour and
your arrival. That's hard to do. You were over there, so I
don't want to say it was theretime, but you know they were ready
to play as your guys were.So Walker, tell me what you gotta
do this week to get how youguys had reacted. I see three days
of practice and getting ready for Fridaynight. I'm coming. I just thought
about that. Well, we're playingmaking the East. There you go.
I didn't say that, thank you. We are preparing just like Wood for

(34:06):
any other team, just like WoodlandWood. It's been a good week so
far. We got morning practice tomorrow. Gotta have a good We gotta be
there around five fifteen. Can wehandle it? Can you you be there?
I ain't got it. I'll bethere. You beat the coach,
I will not. He gets prettyearly. He gets there. Our buddys,

(34:29):
she's honest. Nashville said he beathim. Yeah, yeah, he
said he. That ain't happening withyou though. We'll be there at five
fifties. So what's y'all got goingon in the morning? What's that like?
We'll run through offense, defense, special teams, just walking through,
getting ready, preparing for Friday. You like the early morning. Not just
because he's here. He can't sayhe won't get on it. Do you

(34:51):
like that early morning practice. It'snot too bad. Do you have get
started? R it's wrong. Ibet it's a quiet locker room in the
morning anyway, it is. Yeah, I can only imagine. But once
they get on the field, theyget you know, they get it's excited.
Then they get a little pay up. You know, they hadn't they
hadn't been to class yet. Thatissued with the girlfriends, so you know
there that focus just on football. We get there at six. I get

(35:13):
there at six, So I getthere. Still, you get there,
say it is dark? Why don'tyou ask that? Because you know they
have to cut the lights and itwas dark. I just thought I knew
what time they had to be there. I didn't know what time the actually
starting. And y'all finish about whattime? Around six thirty? Well about
six thirty, and they have timeto take shower and we have breakfast starting
at seven. Now you are donein the afternoon though, right now,
you like that, say there yougo dances on Saturday night. It is

(35:35):
on Saturday night. I think wegot the early morning Sunday. But I'll
be there. I know you will. Hey, now I tell you one
thing about walking down you know,I know what you came out. You
know, people said, well,Walker ain't gonna be in the mornings,
he's gonna be late for practice.Nope, he has not been late a
time. That's he's been on timeand done everything right. So he's the
same way at work. I'm onback that cup. He's the early shifts

(35:57):
and he's there every time. Sono kids are gonna do it. You
expect him to do that's always. So how about that, Fish, I'll
tell you, thank you, Walker, It's good to see you that.
What's the show man's name? Rflectionsbolmar is Hee a senior? Oh,
he's a juno. So we gotanother year before we tell a right,
Walker's good to see you. Goodluck Friday. All right, appreciate,
thank you, thank you. Appreciateyour gradulations. All right, good luck
this week we'll be right back. Most barbecue. We got uh, I

(36:20):

oh Alburn High School, Keith aswarchWhen we come back, I like

(36:45):

Barbecue. He didn't have me up. Jeff's excited, he is excited.
It's brought to you by most originalBarbecue, want to be the Clinic Fox
forwards the game, and Lee County'sBest country Man Kicker ninety seven point seven

(37:07):
after you and up next was allmy high school and Coach Keith. That's
was good afternoon, coach O.Good afternoon, gentlemen. I'm full of
all. You're ready checking out.I'm ready to go to sleep. Just
by the way, the real cheesecould not have been better. Just to
let and they ain't miss they ain'tmiss one up here best the grilled cheese

(37:29):
up four years. I've tried something. I tend to go something newer once
in a while. If you hadthe grip cheese. Oh, I have
not had the real cheese yet,but I tend to go something year once
a while. To day I didthe ribs. Yeah, God, so
good, I said, fried ribs. You ain't gonna do that at home,
No, you gotta do that's whathurt. You'll do a green cheese.
You'll do a grilled cheese at thehouse. I don't cheese, We'll

(37:50):
do a grid look Susie, mymama lives with us, lives with us
right now, and she would throwa grilled cheese the faster than it's good.
There you go. I love it. Look you like cam cam loaves
a grip man. He can't eatit man got you know he can't get
sick on the crypt. Yeah, you know he's gone. He's a fish
biscuit and the no stop him.He knows my eating difficulties. Coach,

(38:13):
I look like it that way abuck forty one hundred forty one. I
mean I need to eat. Sohe needed them ribs. I think I'm
gonna talk. We're wasting your segment. Let's talk. Get off my wet
we cut up all the throws.Good, yeah, till I throw up?

(38:34):
All right, coach Uh. Lastweek I don't even went to school.
We didn't got discombobby that it wasforty six forty six Yeah over jag
jag. So talk about the gamea little bit, coach Uh. I
had got a lot of kids in. You know, it's forty four hundred
and a half time, uh,and got a lot of kids in,
and you know, UH just wasable to see see some good things from
our young kids and our older guysplayed really well in the first quarter and

(38:58):
a half, and then we startedstarted subbing. You got some young guys
in and saw some really good thingsfrom some of the young guys. And
you know, really really excited aboutthis young group of guys and the and
the seniors. No, no,I don't mean it's so good that you
can get to coach play coach.Absolutely, you you coach speaking on well
the ones that have the big numbers, right. I mean, let's face

(39:19):
it, I know some kids thatplay on your team, some young folks,
and about all of them. Andif you're not playing, you need
a team. But if it's toughwhen you go up every day and you
work and you're working, you don'tplay. So those games that you can't,
I'm so proud. I've been therewhere you play. And when we
you know, like I said,in the second half, we we we
uh we let those guys come inand play, and uh we saw some

(39:40):
really good things from We moved theball up down the field. You know,
we're not trying to put it inhit and zone. Were trying to
you go, you know, justget in there and get those kids from
work and and you know, letlet those guys on defense go out there
and play and you know, havehave a good time and just you know,
uh and not do anything to them. BA sub you know what,

(40:00):
you know the importance of that. Here you are with a four fifth quarterback,
so you never know when it's gonnabe started. Henry, Yeah,
Henry started the start of the game, took the first two or three drives,
and then then we subed him.We you know, you had uh
Crawford, Lofthridge and Max Hammer bothplayed and then also Duly played. So

(40:23):
doctor he played him so his firstwatched the experience, you know. So
he played wide receiver though he playswide receiver. Yeah, he played wide
receiver the whole time. We didn'tplay him at quarterback. You know,
we ends one of those kids. He's he's an unbelievable athlete and we can
play him at quarterback, but whenyou play him at quarterback, you take
him out of receiver and he isa threat at any given time. He

(40:45):
made two catches you know the othernight that were just like, you know,
you just shake your head and justget coach. I you see any
war, how the world does heeven catch him? Like the day we're
in practice and he's he's running acrossing route and the balls behind him and
I mean behind him, and hesticks his hand out there and pins it

(41:08):
against his back and pulls it back. I'm sitting there going, oh my
god. And you lose that whenhe's playing quarterbacks, Yeah you did.
He was last year his breakout year. It was you know what you had
last year was his break I mean, did you know what you have?
Yeah? Yeah, yeah, Yeah. He's he's great ass. He's just

(41:28):
a he's a he's such a goodpossession guy. You know, he's not
that. He's not one of thoseguys. Don't drop it. No,
he's not gonna run by you. He's not gonna just fly by you.
But all those fifty fifty balls, you know, he comes up with most
of those fifty fifty balls that arein the air. You know that.
You like, Okay, who's thisgoing to? And even though he's you
know, five nine fifteen, heusually comes up with those one. I

(41:52):
remember, he just got the instinct. He wears two and he wears two
ex gloves. He's got huge hands. Really, let's see, really big
hand. But what's his height. He's about five nine fives. That's what
I was gonna see. I rememberlast year were playing fair Hope over here
in the playoffs first round. Youall yeah, Yeah, there was a
big third down. He just wentdown about hook to chains in the middle
field. Got it, Nesta,I'm thinking Wilker, I'm just sitting automatic

(42:13):
first Yeah, short balls, heyes, he has. He just s
to get his hands on and that'swhat he did down on the ground.
Clock run first down and he doesn'tnormal job. But then we got some
other guy. We're moving back towide receiver, you know, so those
those uh so you know he's gonnaoccupy a guy and a lot of times
people play somebody over top of themtoo, you know, So take two

(42:35):
guys out of the box, youknow when you put him out there,
and you know guys like Gifts andLowthridge. You got Cody, Cody Palmer,
you got I mean there's some GriffinMcLean, uh you know, Tyler
McKinnon. All those guys are areare playing really well right now. And
Griffin and Tyler were two tight endsand they they're they're two of the guys

(42:58):
that we pulled into the backfield, and you know, we've used them as
h backs, blocking backs and stufflike that, so we've had to adjust
a little bit. You know,we're just right now we're spiving. Yeah,
I know we're surviving right now,all right, And and the kids
are doing well. I mean they'rethriving. You know, they're they're loving
it, they're having fun. They'rethey're feeding off each other, you know.

(43:19):
So it makes it fun to coachgood kids. It's just fun to
coach good kids. Man. Wellit is you played at home this week?
Coach, you got the other Rubberty, I mean the other well,
I guess this is this is personRobert's Roberty who already leave, you know,
Percy, Julian. They got somereally good athletes. And you know
we're gonna have to be prepared.I know you will be home games,

(43:40):
homecoming, home coming. There yougo, big night, thankyall guy,
appreciate you. You got for everything, y'all do. Love ya, Thank
you, buddy. That's Keithburn.High School Coach Show continues presented by the
Orthopedic Clinic at MODS with the NetteFootball We come back. Welcome Back to

(44:07):
Most Barbecue. High School Coaches Showcontinues on The Kicker, Fox Sports,
The Game Dmore Jeffin Fan Most Barbecue, seven days a week, all kind
of food, you name it,they got it. Vegetable's Kids, Mill
Barbecue catfish, seafood. Am Imissing anything? Fried ribs, fried ribs,
smoke, grilled cheese, smoke wheeze, grill cheese. Grill cheese is

(44:29):
the best ever? Yes, itis. Just how about letting that football.
They're pretty good too, gentlemen, how are you all tonight? It's
good what we get to eat.Coaches, we gotta give the same thing.
Y'all love some smoke lovers. I'vebeen, y'all been one hundred percent
of smoke wings. All right, coach McDonald, it was the flying squadron
did some flying last week. Itdid, Yeah, forty to fourteen.

(44:50):
I don't mean now, you knowit's not a little bit, no harder
said it through the squadron. Yeah, they did, so talk about just
a little bit. And when wemove on to Luverne, Yeah, yeah,
you know, I own really goodfootball team, very well, coach.
The reason they're ranked second right now? I mean they play hard and
I got after us really good. And you could say they were they were
a lot older than us. Youcould definitely tell that part. And uh,

(45:14):
you know, the murdering the experiencefor our guys. All right,
keeping pressing there, you go,All right, we're gonna move on from
that. We're gonna talk about Louverneas. I say, Louvern four and
oh check this out. They beatBranlyn twenty eight fourteen, beat Jenneva County
thirty seven zero, Barbara County fortytwo zero, or she've been forty one

(45:34):
zero fourteen points all year guys, yep, pretty s forty defense. They
scored a lot of points. Yeah, sir, coach Rigby, yeah right
elbow pipe road last year ago,I know, coach man, normal looking
offense, yep, to type maybewing and just get after it. What

(45:57):
what about their defense? Like what, yes, really really fast defense,
multiple defense. I mean they couldbe anywhere from a three man front to
a seven man front. You thinkI'm kidding, I'm not kidding. So
you know, uh, play alot of coverages. They got a really
really good defense in front. They'rethey're not the biggest, but they're they're
very fast. They get after it, and they play extremely hard. I

(46:21):
mean you could tell like their coachvery well, very aggressive, you know,
just just really really really well coached. Interesting tell us about your team.
How they've responded. I think it'sbeen a good week we've had.
I called another come to Jesus meetingsmultiple every day and just hoping a couple
of lights start coming on with someof them as far as looking for still

(46:44):
leadership, somebody to lead the way, and uh, just try to try
to bank on that, hang ourhat on that and the under click better
week five. So something's just hardclicking. By now I had that in
my ear. I was thinking youwere done. The younger guys in the
lower class since I say, alittle class at seven, eighth and nine
playing that, it's it takes hima while to get accustomed. Yeah,

(47:05):
help, Yeah, just trying tobe our version of a Lynette not at
the past, but yeah, what'sour identity on that? Yeah, the
same thing for what coach kids yousaid about the offense, like, you
know, the defensive coming to Jesusmeeting the same offense. Man, we
gotta we gotta come to Jesus andwe gotta get better. You know,
we we got out manned. Really, it was just a testament of your

(47:27):
your your man power, your yourwill right, and uh, I think
our guys saw that. You know, the only way you see that is
if you see yourself, you know, lying the sky, don't lie,
you know, that's kind of whatwe've been preaching to him, and uh,
it didn't lie on Friday night. And also when you go in there
with that young junior high mentality ina game like that where you're playing a
team that's very good, like HollingHolme, Uh, that's what happens to

(47:51):
you, you know. And soit's just teaching our guys. You know,
every week is a learning experience andyou've gotta keep it, you know,
pressing. But you know, Iwas old coach speak, but you
gotta turn the page, you know, you got you gotta flip flip flip
the phase there and keep it going. And I'd like our our offensive practice
all week defensive two supposed teams. It's been pretty locked in for the most
part. You know, how doyou match up with personnel size? The

(48:15):
size man for man real good.I'd say we're definitely we're bigger upfront.
You can tell we're larger up front. Okay, speed wise, I think
a little bit faster team speed. And I just know this year the team
wants a little pay by no lastyear, Lynette, when the nineteen nothing
last year and came back, Ithink they lost by one. So I
Thinky's mind everybody was pretty much onthat team that's still there now and they

(48:37):
remember that and they're coming to Lynette. So we'll go ahead and try to
even something out in the region. There you go. Are y'all relatively healthy
at this point. We've had quitea few of the injuries for the most
part. I gotta got a coupleof alignment probably a couple of linemen better
if he could go, maybe not, you never know. It's kind of
how they're feeling, you know.Decent report today, So we're rolling the

(49:00):
up swing there. Anybody made changes, any position changes that we need to
know about any nothing, nothing major, nothing major, Keep plugging away and
getting better, right, that's allright? What about middle school JV?
Whatever? It was a great yeah, extremely extremely well. Shout out to
those guys, you know, CoachBoyd, Coach Gagling, Coach Nelson.
That's your guys doing a great job. And we've got a we got a

(49:22):
really good young group that are excitedto play football. That's you know,
that's the big deal right there. And they're younger, the younger, I
just is they're excited to play theplay. It was a Monday, yeah,
and one pretty good one, prettygood one, gentlemen, thank you
for being here, Thank you forhaving a Friday night. You gotta good,
Yes, Sir Bennette in Panther Stadium, Morgan Washington Stadium. Quick break

(49:45):
from mos Dave Roger McDonald, Wecome back. Welcome back to the High
to Coaches Show, Live from thoseReason with four of a que. It's
brought to you by Moses, It'sbrought to you by the Orte Pete Clintic,

(50:06):
Fox Sports, The Game, andthe County's Best Country Kicker FM.
Next up to Daval High School coachRoger McDonald. Last week, Uh,
coach, you beat Sacks fifty sixfourteen, had big win on the road.
Another region game puts US two andoh in the region. It just
I can tell you every every yearhe goes getting the playoffs, anything and

(50:27):
happen after that. So, uh, those region games, every time he
knocked somebody off, and you're climbingup one step closer to being one of
those four teams that get in.And that's that's our goal. And uh,
well we played real well, Uhbest we've played. We've getting better
every week. They weren't as goodas they were last year. And uh,
but you know we're we're a lotyounger too, but we've we've gotten
better every week. And I tellthe kids, I can't guarantee you're gonna

(50:50):
win every week, but if youkeep working, keep getting better, we're
gonna go to the playoffs. Andyou fe'll just keep doing what we ask
you to do. And they do. They keep coming to work, coming
to practice and getting after it everyday. All right, next ups Walter
Well when it's another region game.Coach last year one, twenty two,
fourteen or a day, as goodas they were last they are not.
Uh. They got a big lineman. It's probably D one, maybe FBS

(51:14):
D two kids, really good playeroffense defense. He's out. Uh so
uh they still have a really goodfootball team. But you know we played
him up there. We had threetouchdowns called back up there last year.
So I don't care. I don'tcare if he calls anything back from Walter
Web and our officials just don't callback something that didn't happen. And at
two alm a punt returns for touchdowns. One of them was the reverse.

(51:37):
We did hold on the reverse, but the two punt returns, I couldn't
find anything. Ain't it might have, but yeah, you know, if
we we feel like we'll be okay. Uh Jeff miss been there a long
time. He's good football coach, and they're gonna be sound, They're gonna
be physical. It will be thefastest game in the state Friday night.
Oh uh we'll be clock running. We will be done for everybody else.

(51:59):
He he threw repasses last week andI think we threw three. So,
uh it will be a fast gameand it it it's gonna be a physical
game. And it's whoever gets inthere and it's willing to get after it
and hold the football is gonna bethe team that comes out on top.
But uh he he runs wing teaand it's traditional wing tea, and uh

(52:20):
so it's gonna be a battle. It'll be a good ball game. You
know, Buela moved the ball onhim real well this past week. Uh
So we're hoping we can move theball. And you know, I got
we got some good backs. Youknow, we got some better than average
backs, to say the least. So we're hoping we can get them,
get them loose, and you know, put some points on the board.
And uh, I think we hadwe've had over three hundred yards rushing in

(52:40):
all three games, so hopefully wecan continue that and keep running the football.
Well, well, Coax, itseems like you're doing just about that
recipe. Uh, that's your football, right, Yeah, and that's what
we're good at. You know.We will one for three, uh,
throwing the ball, and the firstplay of the game we throw pass the

(53:01):
fullback in flats. He went backtwenty yards and I said, Okay,
everybody's happy now when running football therest of the game. And uh,
but you know, we just dowhat we are really good at. What
constitutes you to call the pass andplay coach other Well, third and twenty,
let me let let's say this firstwe did. We threw for almost

(53:22):
a thousand yards last year. Itwas fun and gun had I had two
college wideouts. Yeah, Bill thatgot got killed. It was going Jackson
State. Good point. Antoine Woodiewho is starting at Huntington and his catching
touchdown passes every week. And aquarterback that could he's at fault and I'm

(53:44):
sorry, Will corrected me. Anda quarterback that could throw the ball up
and down the field. So wedid throw it more. Uh, we
don't, we don't have that. We're a different type team. This year.
Uh, and it is what itis. You know, we're more
two tight three tight ends and andtrying to be us line of scrimmage.
And we're Last year we were twowide outs all the time. Yeah,

(54:04):
and uh you know we would evenslide an extra guy sometimes and have a
third. But this time we're moretoo tight end three tight ends. You
know, just we're doing what wehave and what the personnel allows is to
do. In two of suit waslike that and make a quarterback roupe.
Yeah, we could throw the ball. Last year when we won, we
sit pitch and catch on one team. Then years oh yeah it was sacks.
Yeah, we get they rolled whenwe wanted to throw. Uh,

(54:25):
we're in a situation now where weneed to be able to we get them
up there in the box. We'regonna try to throw to get behind them
when they've got everybody up there, but you know, they they still gonna
have to stop us. And sofar, even when they got them up
there, you know, nobody evenbe be comer. I mean we had
a three hundred yards rushing against endingthere, number one ranked team in two
A. Uh. So we're justgonna keep doing what we're doing and using

(54:49):
what we have. We got alot of good backs and some good tight
ends and good offensive linemen. Sothat's what we're gonna do. Think the
team's gotten better every week, everyday of practice. No this, and
I've told him that I don't Idon't know that that means you're gonna continue
winning every game. But we havedefinitely gotten better every week. Now that
you know what, you made agood point right there. That is a

(55:09):
good sty you don't know about.I used to hear one of the coach
mcraig. I said, you know, Mitchell, I don't know if we're
gonna win the game. But boom, so I like what, Oh,
yeah, we're better. Yeah,And that's all you can ask. I
was gonna if the kids are gettingbetter, that's what's supposed to happen.
That's kind of right. You can'tcontrol the other team. No, they
may be getting better too. Therethey out there practicing everything the same thing.

(55:30):
Got good comments. So there yougo, and they putting their pads
on us, and everything's the same. You just got a teeth working.
There you go too, and oneday for Tigers they're at home this week
walked well from bigger reason game.Coach Roger's good to see you, buddy,
good say you do. I appreciate, thank you, Junior. You
take care all right, that's it. Coaches Show continues from Most Barbecue,

(55:50):
presented by the Authopedic Clinic. We'regonna take a break. I believe we
got the guard. No, wegot the Fete Bulletdogs, and we come
back and we welcome you back tothe Coaches Show at Most Barbecue right here

(56:22):
on the Kicker and Fox Sports TheGame nine ten, thirteen ten. We're
here every Wednesday night, six tilleight o'clock at Moles. Our show is
presented to you by the good folksat Orthopedic Clinic here in oh black An
Auburn, East Alabama, and WestGeorgia course, down in the valley and
everywhere. And we appreciate what theOrthopedic Clinic does. We appreciate what they
do in high school football and fromme for our community, and we're glad

(56:43):
to have them as our title sponsor. And of course Most Barbecue opened uh
every day of the week. Goodeating here at Moles, and they take
care of our coaches and tuting, including the little fatte bulledogs. Gentlemen,
what's going on? Coach Thorn,Coach Williams, how are y'all? He's
good? Great and great good good. What we have on the menu tonight?
Uh? Fried ribs, smoke chicken, fried ribbs. Is that that's

(57:05):
the fourth fried ribs we've had?I ain't heard ribbs all year? Is
it a special? No? No, it's just the choice of the night
Fried ribs. Yeah, it's interesting, all right, Coach Williams. Everything
good with you? You had youa good week last week? Right?
No? Yeah, yes you did, Yes you did, Yes you did.
Thirty zero yep, Barbara County, talk about the game. Well started

(57:25):
off slow, thirty zero win byjust started off slow, and our kids
got it together, played a goodgame for homecoming, got again, got
a region win. So if weneeded come, yes you did, Yes,
you did, good win. Giveus some names, some some young
men that played well for you, either one of you, coach. We
had offensive linement that played pretty well, played both sides of the ball,

(57:52):
name Geeks, and I called himby the last name most of the y.
But he did an excellent job.He basically played all night. UH.
Kudos to the UH the entire line, both sides of all offensive defensively,
they did a good job of dominatingup front. So, like I
said, we started out slow, and uh, you know I preached uh

(58:13):
last week about us playing a fullgame four quarters. But you know,
they they they turned it on alittle bit the second half and we was
able to actually score about twenty eightpoints in a matter of six minutes.
So guys came out focused a lotbetter than the second half. Yeah,
coach, it was a it wasI know it was a good one for
your problem. And do you feellike it was a big move as far
as your team getting better? Yes, sir, Uh, we've we've had

(58:36):
a good week of practice. LikeI said, our quarterback played well Friday
night. Uh, well, therest of the guys, what were you?
What were you are seeing? Isthings that can change. Like we
told our guys that we want themto change and get better week to week.
You know, either you get betteryou don't, and that's on me.

(58:58):
So we we've been working in theselast three or four days on just
trying to go back and ask kidsand sit down with kids and see what
they don't understand because a lot oftimes we as coaches feel that you should
know and sometimes you just really don't. And you know, Uh, there's
no crazy questions still to them. You know acts, if you don't know
what's there, you go. Sothat's that's something that we made coaches go

(59:20):
back and sit down on this weekand be like, you know, but
coach, they shouldn't know. Butno, let's see if they know Ghoshen
this week, coach, they're twoand two on a two game losing street.
They beat Dellville forty nine twenty two, Zine Chapel thirty five seven and
lost to two good teams Holling Holmetwenty one forty two and the Real Town
Rebels forty three eighteen. So thisis probably a pretty good team in there.

(59:40):
It's a real good team with areally good running back. Okay,
I feel it's gonna be a goodgame. Our guys are back. We
have some guys back now that that'sthat's helping us a lot. So we're
gonna see if we can. Uh, we're gonna have to play our best
game on the road. Just staywith these guys, and what you know,

(01:00:02):
they've got a they've got a kid. We have to stop him and
we we have to tackle him.We have to block and tackle him.
Got a good running back. Obviouslythey got a really good running. Really,
what's he what's he been doing? Is he's been showing out? Yeah,
he's he's broke. He had goodgames against all the teams they've won
or lost and yet, so we'regonna have to stop him. Do y'all

(01:00:24):
match up well against him? Wedo? Okay? Interesting, Yeah,
it's been a good week three daysso far. I don't say a week
because the name in a week, but a good three days. It's been
a good three days. Good y'allsmiling. Maybe we can get on the
road and get that thing would bebig. Oh god, I know that's
a that's a haul, ain't it. It's a haul and a half?
My guy? What is it?Two and a half to two and a
half. That's what I thought I'mtaking. It ain't no easy way to

(01:00:45):
go. I can't get there fromhere. That's what I like saying.
Yeah, it's no short because yougotta go down here and go back up
here no matter what. Yeah, what time y'all leave in front of about
two? Okay, all right,be careful. It's always good to see
y'all. What about your JV andyour junior high coach? JV one last
night the Twigs. Yeah, good, good, all right, it's good

(01:01:07):
to see you two as always.Thank y'all for what yep, y'all be
good. Safe travels to coachings. All right, safe travels. That is
the little Fette bulletoffs at the CoachesShow, the guard coach Justin Jones in
the house. They's gonna take itover when we come back to Mods.
Our High School Coaches Show continues topresented by the Orthopedic Clinic right after this.

(01:01:36):
All right, we're back the mostexciting seven minutes of the Coaches Show.
Baby, We're at wonderful Modes Barbecueand we're it is wonderful because Van
Riggs is absolutely killing it. Iskilled by the way he is killing doing
Jason too, He's killing it,coach and then hit them Wiggs don't stand
a chance. And oh, let'ssee. We'd like to thank Betting,

(01:01:57):
We'd like to thank the Orthopedic Clinic, Fox Sports, the Game, Our
Heart Media. And yes, thatwould be the kicker ninety seven seven w
KKR, that mister Sasser. Thatwould be Lee County's best country man coach
Joan Man. What did you introducehim? Oh? Yeah, well we
said in the most exciting. Sothere everybody knows at this point. OK

(01:02:20):
so it's fine days. You sayone thing about eating between ten ten wings,
you can't. So we went onthere. Get on next week.

(01:02:40):
That's funny. Oh I've lost myplace, Jeff, you're gonna take this
over. I've taken this well lastweek coach defeat of talas at how to
Bryan, first time you ever, hot o, Brian, Yes, sir,
first time going in there. Yeah, I was gonna ask that it's
a beautiful seven absolutely beautiful man thatthat they're home side how Man, Yes,

(01:03:01):
sir, it is. I meanit's similar to like some of the
seven days that that we've been inbefore. So beautiful setup, man,
great atmosphere. It cooled off alittle bit. That helps too, you
know. So yeah, it didn'thelp that we started really really score but
over and over in uh what isit East East Alabama? I get a

(01:03:23):
score with fourteen zero. Yeah, yeah, that was in a hurry.
I what happens? Well, itjust started slow, you know. I
think our first possession we ran tenplays or eleven plays, and and eight
of them were penalties. I mean, like really, we could not run
a play without a penalty. That'skind of been opposite of how we've been.
But once we settled in and anduh quit getting the penalties, we're

(01:03:46):
fine after that. But its justI mean, it just really bad start,
you know, but after that,we played really well for three quarters
after that. So it got topoint back coach jones E. Then you
want to say about the game, now, I really just proud of the
way the kids, you know,we'd we did. We got down fourteen
nothing, but it's not like wewent into some crazy mode. We just
kind of settled in and started playingfootball and made adjustments and you know,

(01:04:12):
second half came out it's like, hey, man, let's just let's just
do what we do. And theneverybody kind of settled in and we took
care of business. There you go. That's that's sometimes that's what you gotta
do. Coach. It's easier said, hey, there you go. So
you're coming off three and one, coach one and one in the region,
Charles Henderson this week, this isa good football team coming off well,
they've won one loss. To talka little bit about Charles Henderson, Yeah,

(01:04:33):
but that's that's very deceiving. Nowyou're talking, uh, you know,
coach Hambright and those guys. Imean, you got the first game
of the year. Well they didplay Poke County now, and it wasn't
really it was I guess it wasconsidered like a jamboree. But uh,
anyway, they they played Pike County, which is a really good, big
rival for them. Three A school. They lose to Mary Mary Montgomery very

(01:04:57):
good, right yeah, in thetop you know five or six since seven
A right now, one of thebetter teams in the Mobile seven A region.
And then you know last week wasup twenty four to seven with like
seven minutes to go in the ballgame. Oh my gosh, it was.
It was. It was a crazyfinish and those are Alabama last one unbelievable.

(01:05:18):
I mean just from penalties to uhpick interception return for a touchdown on
side kick, Uh kid falls downthey thought would make a big play for
a touch just I mean, ifit could have I don't know, man,
it was. It was a wildfinish down in Carrol last week.
So yes, they're they're a veryvery talented, very talented football team,

(01:05:43):
and so we've got to make sure, you know, our preparations very good.
They've got some really really good footballplayers. They're very well coached,
so it's gonna be. It's gonnabe a battle. Friday night, they
lost to Carol. Those arts arepretty Leagles are pretty good. They're three
and one, so you know, yeah, they're I mean, I mean
Carol. It's really good coach.Uh Coach Patrick Plott does a really good

(01:06:03):
job. Good job and one ofthe best. He was coach. Yes,
man, yes, sir, thatis very good defensive mine, thank
you, coach, so thank you. Uh so, yeah, those guys
are those guys are very talented aswell. So like I said, man,
it's gonna be. It's gonna bea good ballgame. Coach, talking
about your offense a little bit.I know you've changed quarterbacks a little bit,
talking a little bit about that.I know it's his son, but

(01:06:24):
I want to talk about you know, I know he used to do that,
but I don't anybody they deserved theirdue. Let's talk about him.
So we you know, like wesaid, we started a little slow last
week. But uh the one thingI was most proud of, especially with
the young quarterback in his first start. We're down fourteen nothing and he never
blinked like he just he just justlike coach, Yeah, he started last
week and so uh, you know, end of the game with three touchdown

(01:06:46):
passes all to Javon Holm and ourbig you know, uh twenty twenty four
receiver who was just an absolute freeyou know, just played great. So
uh, you know, we blockedwell after the start of the game,
and uh he was able make somebig plays down the field to push the
ball vertically and help us be morebalanced, because that's kind of something we
needed, you know, in thefirst couple of weeks. Well, I'm

(01:07:08):
glad to hear that. You feellike your offense is settled down with that
situation. Yeah, it's yeah,it's I feel really good about it.
Good, no doubt. Good. All right coming in this week, coach,
I as your kids had this weekpreparation, and you know, as
far as your team, yeah,I think it's been good. It's all.
You know, it's non region,so you're like, but it is,
But it works out that like it'sit's Charles Henderson, So you've got

(01:07:30):
two top ten teams, so they'relike, it hadn't been like it hadn't
been like a let off, ifthat makes sense, you know what I
mean. Sometimes you get you getall these regions and then you got smack
in the middle of all this regionplayers a non region game and kids can
be more of like, uh,coach, just when don't you know,
blah blah blah. But when it'sCharles Henderson, we know we you know
what, we had a great gamewe had last year. Now they're coming

(01:07:50):
up here. You got two topten teams, so, uh, it's
really been it's it's really been agood, good week of preps. It'll
be more, Yes, sir,at the house huge at thousand and you're
open next week. That's correct. Are you gonna alright? Anything on the
younger guys played? Both teams wantto get at Russell County Monday night.
There you go, so all right, good deal, Coach Jones, co

(01:08:10):
foks, good to see both y'all. Uh, who's next? Jeff Smith
station all right, y'all for comingcoach and Van Riggs cleaned it up pretty
quick. Task. I'm talking aboutone seven minute segment. Get us out
of the part. Second, welcomeback to mods. I used could coach

(01:08:49):
your show on the Kicker, FoxFurs, the Gamer. Send it to
you by the Orthopede Clinic. We'rehere every Wednesday night. Sixty sixty eight
on the Kicker and nine ten Am, thirteen ten Am, Fox Fort Steve
Mark, Jeff Van, Jason Lee. Appreciate that we appreciate our good folks
here at most barbecue feeding their coachestake care of our people, and we
appreciate God's Pete clinic for making ithappen. Smith Station Football, panther Land

(01:09:13):
good even the coach, How areyou tonight, good man? How are
you good? It's good to seeyou. How that brace? Yes,
sir, yeah, be able toyea sir, all right? Enterprise last
week at your place, I sawsome of this game, Coach Enterprise,
pretty good football, Taylor Man.And you know I said it last week,
you know, after coaching with coachBlackmin coach Sonaker. You know,
I know the kind of program thatthey build, and you know they got

(01:09:34):
it going on down there. SoI thought you were with him at Spanish
Fort. Yes, sir, that'sright, yes, sir, all right.
So let's go a little forward here. Coach doth In High School,
this is an interesting team till yougo to Dothan and this team made the
playoffs last year, and all ofa sudden they are three and one in
their ownly losses in two oldts toAuburn. Right, well they went for

(01:09:55):
two, right, So, Imean, you know, our focus this
week was we know it's gonna bea physical matchup. You know what they
do on offense and how they playeddefensively, So that was that was our
big focus this week in practice wasbringing the physicality out of our canyon.
You know, they're really good atwhat they do. You know, I'm
an offensive coach, but you knowI I love love the olon play,

(01:10:17):
So I picked at him a littlebit, and uh, you know,
they did some really good stuff withwhat they run offensively, they do some
really good stuff on defense, thephysical They're physical upfront. So it was
a good focused focal point for usthis week. And uh, we'll see
other players out on Friday. SmithStation Football with us. UH lost last
week fifty four seven Enterprise this weekDolthan I lost. I was trying to

(01:10:42):
get right now Dothan one fifty nine, twenty four. Uh last week over
Prattville. Coach, how's your footballteam doing right now? Winless on the
season. How are they handling things? So, you know, and this
is part of the reason why Ilove coach Garrison because He's quick to put
people in check who aren't you know, playing to the standard, the elite

(01:11:05):
standard that he's trying to set usin station and you know, getting back
like like I mentioned in our practice, you know, we're not going to
accept anything other than elite. Andthat's what they need to understand as players
that we you know, going intoour first meeting with the team when they
came back, we're racing the standard. We're not lowering the standard right now,
and they can either rise and meetthat standard or they'll fall by the

(01:11:28):
wayside and well it'll be the nextman up. So I think I really
love his message and what he preachesto the team about where we need to
get to. We're obviously not thereyet yet right now, but the long
term vision is great from him,and I love being on the staff.
How do you get him to transitioninto that cou So I think it's a

(01:11:51):
mindset change. You know, we'vegot a lot of you know, ideologies
from the past couple of years, and you know, Coach Garrison's trying to
come in and and set his standardand set the bar of what he wants
his program to be. So it'sintensity in the weight room, it's intensity
on the practice field, it's hustlingeverywhere you go. So that's really what

(01:12:14):
I feel like he's doing a greatjob of right now. You know,
we're we're coaching really hard. We'rewe're in the weight room, making sure
kids get every rep, making surekids show up on time of class,
making sure, you know, kidsare respectful. So I think that that
is a big way to change theculture. Yeah, you gotta do it
all everywhere, just not on thefootball field, yees, sir? Is
it is it taking hold coach?I think it is. I think it

(01:12:35):
is. We've uh, you know, we've got some things in place where
you know, if somebody falls outof line, there is punishment for it.
And you know the kids, youknow, they don't want to do
that, and you know, reallyand truly, and I think this is
for all of football. But youneed a player driven team. You don't
need a coach's driven team. Becauseif the players are holding each other accountable,

(01:12:56):
then they're gonna hold each other accountableon the field as well. And
I think that's really what we're gettingto. We're starting to see more of
that, especially from our seniors, holding people accountable because it is their last
year. And you know, Isay it all the time. I do
our leadership program along with coach Watkins, And you know, what is your
legacy gonna be? You got anew coach? Are you gonna be a

(01:13:18):
part of the change or are theygonna say the same team that they weren't
willing to change that they've said forfor a couple of years now. So
I think that that's kind of startingto set in. And uh man,
I just hope that we we continueto to move. Like I said last
week, I think that we're movingin a positive direction. Obviously, the
score you know last Friday night wasn'tyou know what we what we intended.

(01:13:43):
But I think there are things inplace to make us change the culture here
at sminth Station. I like it. You gotta get it done. You're
right, young kids? How manywhat's going on with those guys? JV?
Middle school? So? Uh JVand freshman you know they're with us
at our varsity practices, but youknow, going back to you know,
just the culture. If if wecan play a freshman or a sophomore,

(01:14:05):
like we're pretty young upfront for meright now, and I'll take growing pains
with them as freshman sophomores. Youknow, before you know, a senior
is gonna give me growing pains becausewe can build for the future. That
way, I can go through thoselumps. Now with those young guys that
way down the line, we canbe you know, correcting more of the

(01:14:26):
minutia of the game rather than correctingeffort. There you go, right,
coach, Thank you very much.Good look this week. Thank you all
right, thank you for coming allright here Coaches Show at mos gonna take
a break, We're gonna continue.I believe we got Russell County football coming
your way from Moles Barbecue Ice CuOcoaches so continues. Thank you, and

(01:14:51):
welcome back to the High School CoachesShow. We're coming to you live or
Modes Original Barbecue is brought to youabout the author Pete Clinic, Moles Original
Barbecue, Fox Sports the Game Kickerninety seven point seven, Lee County's Best
Country and next up is UH RussellCounty and coach Cardwell, good afternoon.
Hey, how's it going. It'sgoing good? Offensive line? Coach,

(01:15:13):
I am yes, sir, Okay. Last week UH played Carver Montgomery Region
game. I lost thirty four tosix. Coaches, let's cover that game
briefly and then we'll move on touh at wee Tumpka. Oh yeah.
Uh. You know, Carver wasa good athletic, big team. They're
fast, they were physical, worldcoached. You know, we came out
a little stady in got down fourteenor thirteen to zero a half, which

(01:15:35):
is kind of you know, beena little habit of ours recently. You
know, we're trying to battle ina second half, and you know,
Carver was one of those teams whereit makes it tough to do that,
and they just came out and playeda little bit better than we did.
All right, Coach Webb, didyou come out of it healthy? I
mean we Yeah, nobody's hurt.Yes, that's in major hurt. All
right? This week, uh weTumpka wee Tumka's one and two? Yes.

(01:15:59):
Uh they lost last week. Uh, y'all lost to them last season
forty nine to seven. I don'tknow who we tumpas opponent was last week,
do you know? Uh? Itwas part Crossing and I believe they
won that game. I'm not sureof the score, but you know what
time because of the world coach teamcoach Bear over there, you know he
played uh played pro ball and playedat Troy. And you know, our

(01:16:21):
our coach, Coach Griggs, heknows uh coach Bear, you know really
well. And we know that we'regoing to get a Weald coach physical team
ready to play some good defense tobeat we tumb. Yeah, you know
really, Uh, we gotta wegotta be crisp and clean. You know,
we gotta be the team that makesthe least mistakes. I think last

(01:16:43):
week we you know, had somepenalties that killed us. We had some
misassignments, especially on offense that youknow, we we left some points on
the board. We drove to thered zone a few times and couldn't put
it in. Uh you know,we were I think we were. I
got little stacks here pulled up.Yeah, we were, you know,
nine for nineteen on on third down. So we gotta we gotta fix that.

(01:17:04):
That's a big thing for us.But you know, we we clean
it up, we're gonna we'll beOkay, Well, we'll go out there
and compete. This uh we tumpteam. They have a lot of athletes
use normally we tumb conteams I've seenin the past. They have some athletes.
Oh yeah, yeah, you knowthey're they're good with tumb team.
I mean their quarterback number two isa is a big guy who can go

(01:17:26):
out there and you know, heruns and he's physical and it's going to
be tough to contain him. Butyou know, the defensively they're you know,
they're really uh, they're really sound. They graduated a lot of people
last year, so they're a littlebit younger team with not as much experience.
So they're a lot like us inthat way. So you know,
we're we're really excited about this challenge. H We think it's gonna be two

(01:17:47):
good teams going to go play eachother on Friday. I do know the
offensive coordinator, Oh yeah, yeah, Jonathan Channa Band knows them too,
right open like a guy, right. Oh yeah, he's open and was
coaching he was o s here whenhe lived. Oh there you go.
I think him and coach bar wereteammates Detroit. So so what about your

(01:18:08):
youth, not youth, but youryounger programs you JB, you junior high.
How are they doing? Yeah, they're doing uh, they're doing well.
You know, they're the big thingfor us is developing that youth program.
When we got here, there wasno there was no true youth program
in Russell County. Uh, kidswere having to go to Phoenix City and
Columbus to go play you know, the peewee ball, you know. And

(01:18:30):
so now we're starting to get,you know, kids from Russell County playing
in a Russell County system. Thenthey're coming to the middle school and it's
not the first time they put onpads. When when we first got here,
there was a lot of kids itwas their junior year and the first
time they were playing football. Wow. So it's hard to you know,
it's hard to win games when youdon't put in that time from an early
age, your your peeweez and souff. How's that structured, coach, I'll
play at the high school? Doyou play on them? I know they

(01:18:53):
practice a lot on our high schoolpractice fields, in our game fields on
Saturdays. I'm pretty sure they playat our stadiums this week. And I'll
say that'll hip, Oh yeah,no doubt. We've talked about that when
you used to have a startup program. You can try to do a lot
at the varsity, but you gottahave it at the us pee week coach

(01:19:13):
it at all. I mean, you gotta have it, coach, because
you can't expect them to come outif they don't. Oh yeah, and
get used to. And the moreyou guys can get out there with it,
the better it is to Oh yeah, I mean that's you know.
You look at the area around here. You got the dog pound, you
do you do? You know thosekids they start off as dogs and then
they got to middle school their dogs, and they're high school their dogs.
You are his boy will be thatway too. That's what we're talking about,

(01:19:36):
Van for those that are that's agood point, right So, you
know, we're trying to get warriorswhen they're kids, Warriors in middle school
and warriors in high school. Butthat takes time, you know, And
and that's kind of what we're playingright now is the time game. Jeff,
I just jumped in here. Idon't know where you were. Someone
we were talking about we we've coveredtheir next opponent, which is way time
we coach uh I was talking aboutcoach Channa or being the office. Oh

(01:19:58):
yeah, man, yeah, AndI guess y'all want over what he thoughts
and all that, and then histeam obviously getting better. I hope you
think he's getting better. Oh yeah, Oh yeah, you know, that's
what everybody tells us. Uh.If you watch Russell County play, it's
it's a very different team than RussellCounty the past. They go out there
and they compete. Uh. Youknow, they always think they have a
chance in it, and old teamsmight not have thought that before. There

(01:20:19):
you go, coach, thanks forbeing here. Appreciate you, contreciate Warriors.
All right, go Warriors. RussellCounty in the house. We're gonna
take a quick break from Los Barbecue. High School Coaches Show is going to
continue. We're gonna bring in ChambersCounty Academy head coach Jason Allen as we
continue to coach MENTI Grider. Next, excuse me, coach Medy Grider.
Next, I gotta welcome back toMost Barbecue. Sorry about that, Home

(01:20:55):
of the High School Coaches Show, present the tea buy. But what the
Peter Clinton, what will we doabout the good folks towards Pete clannck.
I appreciate all those good folks there, Cherry John, doctor Dooley, doctor
Richardson, I mean Wilson, doctorA Dooley, doctor Fraser Jones, doctor
Shields, and doctor Palmer. Gotthem all and a bunch. They tackle
the injuries, they take care ofit. I've had monthfull surgeries there.

(01:21:16):
You have to coach Grid. Haveyou had any search it towards Pete Clintic,
No, I have not. Butif you have a son has there
you go. There you go ata hip deal. There you go.
Crazy story. I'll tell you aboutsometime. It's good to see Coach Grit.
You guess to be here, sir. It's always good to see.
How's your family? Everybody's well, man, they're listening and well, hello
family, I'll gotta come out andjoin coach. Now one night when y'all

(01:21:38):
get here early. Yeah, welltonight is gymnastics night for so you taught
me. Yeah, so it messeshim up. Well, she your wife
used to come. I know,I know, but she's got to take
Shelby over there to Auburn gymnastics andI understand. Now, okay, so
all right, but as late aswe get on here, I guess they
could come and we could eat.Well we got done, you could You

(01:21:58):
know who used to do that?Coach Oh, Smittygrat, I mean it's
coach Smitt Grat. Coach Jamie Dubosdid that, didn't me guys, he'd
be the last one, and wesaid he'd beat he'd have to eat and
when flattering, yep, yep,all you can eat wing, Yep,
that's what he Yeah, all right, coach, let's let's talk a little

(01:22:20):
football. We've talked food and family, which is good. But you know
what, I'm looking for your gameright here? I was trying to find
a score. Coach. We didn'tplay Oh, you were open. That's
why I came. We were playingopen. You played open better than the
other one. All right, soall right, thank you, uh moose
two and one coach Homewood. Thisweek, let's go on into Homewood.
They lost last week. No theyno, No, you lost last seas

(01:22:41):
at thirty one twenty four. Theywon last week. I'm so I'm trying
to read my notes. I can'tread. Talk a bit about Homewood High
School, you know, after theirfirst game, and we watched that film
not to you know, too longafterwards, and I'm thinking, well,
they're not very good. But thenthey played Spain Park and they played best
Davia and they got better every week, and uh, last week they beat

(01:23:03):
Klera handily, and uh we wentand watched the game and the more and
more you watch them, the betterand better they're getting as they've gone into
the season. Uh, they're they'vegot a good football team. They don't
have the weapons they had last year, but they're they're a little bit different
team and they they they're pretty athleticat the receiver spot, and they got
a quarterback two quarterbacks that are playingwell. And you know, they're they're

(01:23:27):
just getting better. And that's what'sscary about them. Uh, They've you
know, I've got great tradition overthere. They've as a lot of history
between Benjamin Russell and Homewood, uhplaying in the playoffs. And you know,
we went over there last year thinkingwe had a better team and and
they beat us, and uh kindof woke us up. And you know,
hopefully we're we're ready to play tomorrow, I mean Friday night. So

(01:23:49):
you know, I'm I'm looking forwardto it. I hate we had an
off week, be honest with you. I would rather have just kind of
kept that momentum going and played agame last week and be ready to play
this but uh, you know,we've got our handsful. We're gonna have
to play well. They got agood team, did you go watch that
game as we did. Yeah,I figured that. I figured that.
So you don't like the open weeknmove you. No, I don't really.

(01:24:10):
I've heard you say that before.I just it's good if you've got
if it's later in the season andyou've got some injuries, you're trying to
get healthy. But right now,and you know, we're pretty healthy,
and you know, it's hard tomotivate kids in an off week this early
in the season, you know, and they did. We did a good
job. I mean, we hadthree good practices last week, and but
it just it's just, uh,you hate to lose that momentum, you

(01:24:30):
know when you're playing well, andwe played well the week before, and
uh, you know, I'd liketo have been able to build off of
that a little bit before we hadan off week. I think my preference
would be to play ten straight andbig playoffs and like the old days.
You know, let me ask youthis, you know what I mean,
Richie jip. But when you dowhen you have off week to take it
a little while to get going, you think in the next game like a
course, No, it's a it'suh, that's something that you worry about,

(01:24:55):
you know. You see it alot in the NFL. Teams don't
necessarily they don't come off open weeks. No, Alabama doesn't do good sometimes
coming off well, they're not doingtoo good anyway right now, that's another
story. But yeah, but youknow, it's a little bit of a
concern. You know, the gamespeed, you gotta catch back up to
that, and uh, you know, you you hope you don't have some
rust, you know, from notplaying because this is a game. Man,

(01:25:16):
It's kind of like swinging a baseballbat. You gotta do it all
the time. And if you don'tplay, you're not on. You know,
you can lose some of those thatskill a little bit. It's a
it's perishable man, and it takesa little bit time to get it back.
So I'm a little concerned about that. I think we've had a good
week of preparation. It's homecoming. That's another issue we're dealing with. And
then you know, so, butI think we'll be ready. But you

(01:25:41):
just worry about, you know, getting off to a good start. Yeah,
this is a do you coach theweek before right after a off week
like this, so you coach itdifferent than you would just a regular like
what we do in practice. Yes, I mean we we we did.
Uh we did. We went backand did it like uh spring train,
we'll see you're gonna work on yourteam. Yeah, and we did a
lot of one verses one, butit was quick whistle. We didn't when

(01:26:04):
you know, I can't get anybodyhurt, right, And you know,
we did we did fundamentals and wedidn't really work on homewood. I mean,
I think during walk through and stuff, they may have done some things
on either side about what we weregonna do, but most of it was
about us, you know, justgetting better at the fundamental things that we
need to improve on to be abetter football team. And you know,

(01:26:25):
and I thought we you know, for for what it was, we had
a good week. You know,it just uh it's not the same.
The intensity levels not the same. You're not you know, when when you
get into season mode, you know, Monday's you work day. You're installing
your plan, you're introducing the plan. Tuesday you're really refining it. You're
you know, making the tweaks andthe changes. And by Wednesday, like

(01:26:45):
today's practice, you want it tobe, Hey, this is what we're
gonna do. And it's a lotof team and on Wednesday and you want
everything to be sharp and you know, very few mistakes, and then then
you go Thursdays, you run throughand then play the game on Friday night,
and it's kind of a you getin that routine, you know,
and so that's a that's a wholedifferent route that we had three like regular
practices in a row. When youdon't really do that in the season.

(01:27:08):
You know, it's just a littlebit different. And you you know,
you build from more fundamental time andstuff like that on Monday and Tuesday to
a lot more team on Wednesday,to going back to doing an old school
Hey we're gonna do fundamentals and we'regonna you know a long time a little
bit of team stuff. You know, it's just a different it's not as
much, let me put it toyou, like this job. It's not

(01:27:28):
as enjoyable for the kids. Yeah, and they're not dumb. They know,
hey, they know as much fun. And you know, when you're
getting ready to play somebody, that'sa lot more motivation to want to go
out there and practice better. Andyou know, so well, you know,
you think about how how you haveto coach team, You have to
coach them after a buy a weekyou have to coach. Let's say you're
playing somebody that you know you're gonnabeat. You're gonna know, and then
the week after that, and I'veheard coaches do this, So you're playing

(01:27:53):
a team that you know you're gonnawin, it doesn't matter, you know
you're gonna win, you should win, and you'll probably be gonna win.
And then you got a tough ponit. The week after that, he
thought a little bit of that otherteam stuff in there go And that's true.
And we I mean, you know, we didn't really have a game
plan, but we had talked alittle bit about it, and we showed

(01:28:13):
them some of their formations during walkedthrough the defense and uh, you know,
I mean it's it's hard to Idon't want to get I wanted to
make sure that we didn't lose ground, that we'd use that week to get
better, you know, not gameplaying. Let's work fundamentals. Man.
This is a chance for us todo some things that you don't have time
to do when you're in game weekmode. All right, So we had

(01:28:34):
three full regular practices like we wouldin the spring or in the fall.
I mean, in camp in thesummer, and you know, you don't
get to do that because even thoughMonday and Tuesday's got a little bit more
fundamentals to it, you're still youknow, you're spending a lot of that
practice on the team stuff, youknow, to get ready, the scheming
and all that that you the whateveryou're doing for that that team. So

(01:28:56):
it's it's good in that way ifyou can, if you can mode the
kids, and like I said,if it's later in the season you got
some guys banged up, it's great, you know, and it's great to
be the week It's not great, but it seems like it would be great
to be week ten. Yeah, going into the playoffs. That didn't really
work good for us when I wasat Park Crossing and we just didn't play
well early in those games after that, and I didn't like it. But

(01:29:21):
mindset is, hey, if wegot some people hurt, yeah, well
a week But let me tell youwhat's miserable. This happened one time when
I was there first year. Wedidn't make the playoffs and we had week
ten off and you're taking up stuffand people still playing, yeah, you
know, and that's all. Yeah, And so you know that. That's
uh that, So I just thinkthe old way to do it. Man,
Let's uh, let's play a jamboree. Let's play tenth straight. I

(01:29:45):
just into the playoffs. Let's doit when he gets to make that schedule
this time. Yeah, do it? That's right? What would see you?
Yeah? You too? Man,Hey, I appreciate you having thinking.
You know. I know y'all don'tlove me like it. You get
your time. I hain't coach Brodercall him man, well show. I
listened to y'all every morning. Youhelped me to coach. You know.
I give him a text every nowand then when I you some rule and

(01:30:10):
he helps me. And we loveyour coach, you know that? Men
Russell coach MENTI Grider Yep, we'regonna talk Chambers acade when we come back
to molest Barbecue. Welcome back tothe High School Coaching Show. We'll coming

(01:30:48):
to you live from Mole's original Barbecue. I hear him the veranda. Oh
why I'm I'm learning? Go ahead, okay, I'm learning. Plays come.
We're brought to you by Most Barbecue, Fox Forwards, The Game,
and Kicker and ninety seven point sevenFM. So he got his best country.
Excuse me, I'm sorry. Yeah. Yeah, we got coach Jason

(01:31:10):
Allen which Chambers Academy. He's gonnawrap it up for Yeah. It's good
to be here, Jeff. I'vebeen under the weather for the last couple
of weeks. By finally starting tofeel a little better. I'm glass you
see you look better when I wentby you in there, I had that
alottle back. Yeah. Hell, rive all good too. Yes, he's
doing good. We little worried lastweek, Coach lef. We had to
get everything straight. We checked onyou. Yeah, thank you y'all calling
me. I'll appreciate it. Yeah, we're gonna do that, Coach.

(01:31:32):
We care about it. It's goodto see. I like your cards,
coach. Coach is working on this. So do you hold is that?
Do you hold that during the game? I do? Yeah, you know
maybe, well, you know,we just go we try to go simple.
We'll have a run pass and uhtempo plays. That's it right there,
man. Yeah, we're looking atthis chart, folks, and then
we'll have a couple of little packages. I just try to write that stuff

(01:31:54):
down a lot during the week,so I can almost have it memorized by
Friday night. Coach, what programis that you use? That Microsoft work.
That's a good old fashter, right, I like it. I like
it. That's what Van and Iwere talking about. That's awesome, coach.
But anyway, I appreciate you.Let me look at it. Well,
you see all these coaches, theygot all these fancy things with different

(01:32:15):
colors, and yeah, you know, everybody's got to do what works for
them, you know absolutely. Ilook at Mike Leaks. He has a
card about big as his hand, yeah on there, and you know,
you're right, coach. I wasjust I was, you know, I
was just curious about it. Buthey, talk a little about your football
team, Jeff, you got itpulled up. I'm moved. Last week
he won you be Banks Academy fiftyseven sixty seven, a bunch of eighteen

(01:32:38):
so much. Yeah, we wereplaying really well right now. We probably
played as well as we could play. Uh. Last week, you know
that was both teams were undefeated.I think we were ranked fifth, they
ranked six in state and uh,they first play of the game, they
had an athlete on outside and heran by us and they threw was seventy
five yard touchdown pass. It wassix to nothing before we could blank a

(01:33:01):
high four ten seconds into the game. And our kids didn't, to their
credit, did not flinch, theydidn't panic, and we went on scored
thirty two unanswered in the first quarter. We just her first quarter. Where
Banks and Banks is in Birmingham,it's it's close to the old Banks High
School. Okay, Banks, Ialmost said Banks High Yep is it?

(01:33:25):
I thought it was. They wereright close to you. Yeah, they're
even the Banks Jets, just likethey were back in the seventies. Yeah,
it's they were very athletic, verytalented team. But our guys just
played really well. We played lightsout. We scored fifty five points by
halftime. Wow, and that wellthey snapped the ball over them. Yeah,

(01:33:46):
but now they look they did giveup thirty eight one win and thirty
and another. Yeah. They justthey had hard time doing, you know,
keeping our discipline. We're very misdirectionoriented that and so they had a
hard time with with their with theireye discipline at linebacker and uh, we
gave him a lot to look at, a lot of candy, a lot

(01:34:08):
of motion, and uh they did. We did block a punt, we
intercepted the pass and then they theyhad a punt snap over the pointer's head,
so they had a twenty it couldbeat. And look, they didn't
score but eighteen and they've been sixtyforty twenty seven. So your defense shut
them down to coach, absolutely absolutely, one of those was late against our
Uh yeah, the way defensive youknow what, I'll tell you what coach

(01:34:34):
Dylan Nestman is doing. Jesus iseighth year with me. He's doing a
phenomenal job defensively. This is oneof the better defenses we've had. Uh.
We we're fast to the football, our kids liked to hit, and
you know, we got a lotof guys back from last year and added
some guys. So I really likedwhere we're at defensively right now. All
right, this week coach Bestmer Academyand kind of unique. They're They're one

(01:34:57):
win, that's it. They beatuh Munro academ last week twenty nine,
twenty two, I saw Monroe playthe least guy. Yeah, uh not.
Anyway, they lost the Banks, they lost to a targer Academy,
and they lost to glenn Wood yep. So they've lost to some good teams.
Well, actually two of them rankedin the top five one number one
in that you know. Yep,So they're they're dangerous team. And I

(01:35:19):
know that's he that's kind of likecoach speaker whatever you Yeah, but they
still gonna play that. I toldour kids. They got a quarter they
got the backup from Vestaviu Hills atquarterback, who was really good football team.
Yeah, oh no, I thoughthey're a good football team. Yeah,
it's a good program. I figuredhe was a good way. They
got a really good tight end thatthat can stretched the Phillies athletic. Uh.

(01:35:42):
They got a couple of kids onoutside of can run. They scare
me and uh, I told ourkids if if we're not ready to play,
you know, anything can happen everyFriday night. So we're gonna be
ready. How big are the coachbecause I've seen him roll way down here
before four or five years ago.Man, they was man, they passed,
I tell you talking about the gettingoff that was for a while.
Yeah yeah, yeah, you know, Josh Wright is not there anymore.

(01:36:03):
He's the head coach at tuscal LooseAcademy. His younger brother, Jonathan is
the coach at Bessemer. Now youknow what coach I got this? Now
and uh, you know, Jonathan, they've picked up some players this year.
I think you know, they're bestfootballs ahead of them. They they
got some good looking kids that passedthe high tests. I just hope they
don't put it together this week.Yeah. Can we go back to the

(01:36:25):
last week, coach, I meanyou take away twenty points or the miscus
they had, do you still scoringto forty seven? Yeah? Forty?
You know Skill still had six touchdownsin there. Yeah. Luke Tarvor Jacob
Norgard are two of them best runningbacks in our league. They're both juniors.
Is the the big the big youngman he brought to the media days
and see one of them you're talkingabout. He knows he plays tight ends

(01:36:45):
tight end for us? Okay, yeah, tight end. I thought somebody
told me that number twenty one RyanSmith. Yeah, and he is.
He's been a man among boys onthe field all year. Yeah. Uh,
nobody's blocked him yet that we played. And then we're we're kind of
double double playing him on both sidesof the ball a little bit this year.
We don't play him all the timeon offense, but man, he

(01:37:06):
can block, He can come downat tight end. He's six one two
fifty five and he runs well andcatches as well. Yeah, you know
what he passed out as a mediaday, here's no question about it.
Yeah, and you're telling me hedoes this the uh running passing a good
a good mix or both or yeah, we threw for two sixty five,
well two ninety against Crenshaw two weeksago. We kind of scale the pass

(01:37:29):
back a little bit last week becausethey they couldn't stop a run, you
know, and so they were veryathletic, and I was you know,
as a coach when you got athletesall over the place, which in you're
and you're running the ball at peopleand you're pound them, you kind of
hesitant to put the ball in theair because you give them athletes and the
opportunity to do something they really wantto do, which is make a play.
But they didn't run. Yeah, and they didn't like they didn't like

(01:37:51):
the part where we were hitting himin the mouth. That's what they look
like. And you know, there'san old quote says the Mike Tyson made
famous say, everybody's got to playuntil they get hit in the mouth.
You're right, you're right, andit's how you're fine obvious that you know,
and if it ain't broke, don'tfix it, right, Coach,
That's right, that's right. Well, if I if I have a success
running the football on first down thesecond down, you know I'm not gonna

(01:38:13):
throw it a whole lot. I'mnot keep It's like when you get down
on the goal line. I watchedAlton last week on the one through two
passes in the corner. My philosophyas a coach always don't get killed on
the goal line because before you knowit will be third and goal and then
you gotta make a play, right, go ahead and score when you can
try to get that thing in there. Yeah, it's interesting. That is
a good point, coach. Yourteam has gotten better obviously since I've seen

(01:38:34):
him play the first game you saidthat. Yeah, I'm excited about this
team. It's a it's a goodfootball team, and I got a lot
of depth, so I feel like, you know, we're not just holding
this thing together with duct tape.If something happens, which inevitably does in
football, we got some quality playersthat can step in and keep it rolling.
What about your younger guys, coach, got about a minute a half.

(01:38:55):

on my nose. And when youup in your sweet you look down there
on third down, I'm gonna looklike I'm doing something. All I'm doing
is call him one or three playsthe counter the power and then in a

(01:40:41):
trap and he goes, I don'tget like fun and coach, good to
