and by Gory's Furniture. Now live from Mose Barbecue, Bent
Creek and Auburn. Here's d Mark Mitchell and Jeff Sasser.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Welcome in High School Coaches Show Live from Mose Barbecue,
Bent Creek and Auburn. I'm being ricked jumping in here
for d Mark Mitchell for the moment, and he's on
assignment inside taking care of some business. But Jeff Sasser
is alongside and more Yeah, verod, he's got some important business, always.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Taken care of.
Speaker 5 (00:38):
Absolutely.
Speaker 6 (00:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
But we'll got Lochapoka gonna kick the show off, and Jeff,
will you let you jump in here?
Speaker 4 (00:44):
All right?
Speaker 7 (00:45):
Coach?
Speaker 5 (00:45):
Last week seventy three, forty nine against Real Town, Yeah,
number one and two, a loaded with athletes. I had
a lot coming back. Let's talk about that one briefly,
then we'll move on to the opponent this one.
Speaker 8 (00:54):
Yeah, for sure, man, we just couldn't stop a noble
Lee last week, to be honest, which they did a
good job of breaking tackles. We had trouble lining up
a couple of times against tomorrow it Hendles was supposed
to place but us. We'll get that.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Fixed this week.
Speaker 8 (01:09):
But offensively, man, we was able to get what we wanted.
We was able to put.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Up forty nine against Real Town.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
That's good.
Speaker 8 (01:16):
I let coach din't talk about offense.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
He over there.
Speaker 8 (01:18):
But they did a magnificent job, had a great game
plan coming in. I think they execute the game player
on the offense side of the ball. We could have
got a couple more stops, probably an opportunity to win.
We they ran to kick open the kickoff back and
then we muffed the punt in their territory. We founded
in their territory. So those three things really hurt us,
you know. But how they talk about.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
The offense, coach, Yeah, I know you, coach, you were
talking before you hopped on about and I don't think
you've ever put up forty nine points like that and
then been on the losing in. It's tough, I know,
but now on.
Speaker 9 (01:48):
The losing in, and really, you know, they pulled away
from us a little bit. But our kids played well
on offense. Our quarterback kJ Carter is really good and
running back co they do a good job their explosive
and if you blink your eye, they will turn it
into seven points. And O line did a decent job
(02:08):
of making some holes for him. We completed some passes
through a couple of touchdown passes and played really well
on offense. Took advantage of what they gave us and
did a good job of that. Coach Bird and a
coach Chitty, coach Henry and myself Coach Hirst. We all
game planned and did a good job figuring out where
we could attack them and stuck with the game plan
and things work. You know, some nights it works that way.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Well, I mean, you got to take some positives off
putting up forty nine against a good Real Town team.
Everybody's seen how I mean, everybody seen how good they've
been the past couple of years.
Speaker 10 (02:39):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (02:39):
Yeah, that's something to build off of, you know what
I'm saying. You get something to build off of. Execution
and stuff, and you know where they're prepared last week,
so hopfull we can build off that moving forward.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
You know, you know, uh yeah, when I saw the
score I was like, man, they scored forty nine. Yeah,
you know what happened.
Speaker 8 (02:54):
I mean, they was just back and forth, back and forth,
back and forth back.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
That's a lot of points in the game this week, coach,
we got Beauty of mine. Reason opponent was one and four.
I guess the only like opponent would be at least
got yep, yep, yet at least got beat in now
the least got game was a very close win with y'all. Yeah,
totally different.
Speaker 8 (03:12):
Yeah, could have been some here cover the ball bounces there,
you know, could have been a lot different than that game.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
Tell me about beaut coach. The five games into the season,
this is game six for me and my mean, how
do they do?
Speaker 8 (03:23):
Yeah, they got athletes. Uh they're running back number two,
number five, quarterback number four, he gets slanking around the yard. Uh,
pretty pretty big upfront. So I mean it's gonna be
it's gonna be a good football game for us. Uh.
They got athletes that can play all they will, coach,
they play hard. So we gotta go out there and
make sure we're executed and handle our business, you know,
as far as being disciplined and executing the game playing.
(03:45):
Hopefully we can come out right side this one.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
Hope.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
Hey, you're at home. So that's two Lee County schools
and you got the home field.
Speaker 8 (03:51):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Coach.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
Defense.
Speaker 9 (03:53):
Offensively, how well, defensively, they're gonna give us a they
will give us an odd front, they'll give us an
even front, they'll give us some a lot of different looks.
And we just gotta make sure we execute and take
advantage of what they give us and not try to
do something we can't do. And uh uh, we're gonna
have to run the football. That's that's our number one thing.
That we might have throw it a little bit when
(04:13):
we want to. Uh, but you know, I like our
game plan and I like the way.
Speaker 10 (04:18):
We had to date.
Speaker 9 (04:19):
We had a really good day today offensively, and uh
hopefully that'll carry in the Friday night.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Have you played well last year your first year? Y'all
had them last year on the schedule, Yes, sir, you
played last year. I just wanted to twenty fifteen or
something to beat us last year. It was yeah, I'm
looking at it last week score right here? Is this
somebody that does beauty louch poker player every year? I
remember poking?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah, yeah, when they played.
Speaker 9 (04:45):
Played the last three years louch poking. Okay, my first
year at poker.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Well, let's see you played thirty six times forty six times,
so yeah, you know.
Speaker 8 (04:55):
Yeah, both both schools and Leak count Us. So it'll
be a bunch of foks at the game.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
We Yeah, I would think the whole coach.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Yeah, it'd be.
Speaker 8 (05:00):
Good opportunity to have people come out of support both teams.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
You know, all right, twenty two you got eleven. How
many of them go both ways y'all? Just when they
switch over the stand up?
Speaker 8 (05:11):
Yeah, we probably got about something. Don't they go both
ways for rid on a consistent basis. When you say
this is probably about something.
Speaker 9 (05:16):
Mate, i'd say total we play sixteen to seventeen kids.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Totally, yeah, on everything.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Yeah. How are your health wise?
Speaker 8 (05:23):
Yeah we're pretty good healthy. Yeah, were pretty good. I
don't care. Nobody banged up pretty bad?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
How is I mean, how important is it for you
to come out and play good for the for the
home stretch to you know, to pick up these important
region games coming up after non region where you don't
want to get people hurt, but you still want to
get things. You want to work on things, improve on things,
and get kind of a good rhythm going and.
Speaker 8 (05:44):
Have no doubt anytime you get between the on line,
you're trying to win. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
So you want to go out there. You want to
play hard. You know, sometimes the injury to come, sometimes
you don't. You know, you just want to go out
there and be able to play the game for speed,
you know, trying to do the best you can put
the guys in the best position to be successful.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
You'll feel like you gotten better every week, coach.
Speaker 8 (06:01):
Yes, sir, I feel like we have. I feel like
we're still trying to get better. I hopeful we can
peek at the right time. That's the key.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Only three more opportunities to come, at least in the
regular season to see Loach Poke at home.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
So I know you need a big crowd Friday.
Speaker 8 (06:12):
Yeah we do, man, soy all come on out of supporters.
Then in the pokeo baby, won't you won't be disappointed
on the food or the phone. And I promise fish
some slice of dogs. Have a good time there.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
You go, all right, don't forget Poka and it is
Beulah Friday night in Loach of Poke. We'll be back
as we continue with the High School Coach Show to
this time out right.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Here on the Kicker. Welcome back here on the High
School Coaches Show.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Van Rich jumping in here for d Mark and Jeff alongside,
we got Jason Lee and the Opalk of football is
who we're going to talk to this segment.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Here we got coach Brian Moore.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Coach.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
How you doing good? Her you Van, I'm doing well.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
I still can't get my head wrapped around it is
the sixth game of the football season already.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
It's just flying by.
Speaker 11 (06:52):
It did it always does faster every year, and I
think those Thursday games made it even crazier, you know,
in the front half, So it has gone by quickly.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Yeah, for those that don't know too opal like Thursday
games this year against Callaway, then back to back you
had Auburn and then you know, a couple of Friday
night games in a row to kind of get you
back acclimated. And here we go out of the region
and you got a tough team coming in Pike Road.
But first off, talk about the went over Smith station
last week.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
I thought it was good. You got some guys back.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Quarterback Number one Colby Key, first action he's had since
week two.
Speaker 10 (07:19):
Yeah, I mean I thought we played okay.
Speaker 11 (07:21):
You know, we gave it too many first downs, and
of course they controlled the clock a little bit, which
was a little bit frustrating, but that's what they want
to do and you know, play keep away. We had
like two snaps in the second half. Midway through the
fourth quarter. It was crazy. We had to kick off
return to the eight and scored two plays later, and
then interception return for a touchdown. So they had the
ball quite quite a while in the second half. So
we really didn't get a lot of snaps in, didn't
(07:42):
get a lot of kids in, but again, you know,
it was good to see that scheme, you know, as
something that's coming down the road with Othan. Not exactly
the same but similar in the structure, so that'll be
good for us. But you know, good to get either
their healthy this week. We are healthier Kobe obviously back
last week, but we'll have some more guys back this
week and we'll need them against Pike Road.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah, it was twenty one six ball game. Early in
that second half, you got a big kickoff return by C. J.
Johnson to set up a score and then a pick six,
So I mean all around. I thought you had bright
spots on every phase of the game.
Speaker 11 (08:12):
Really we did, and we were really vanilla on what
we did. You know, we played after a drive too.
We played with Cooper some in the game, so I
think he played two possessions, which was good for him.
So we continue to you know, rotate some pieces, even
you know, had our backup kicker in pretty early in.
Speaker 10 (08:26):
The game to give him.
Speaker 11 (08:28):
We just are trying to get experience for our young guys,
you know, and continue to build those guys, build our depth.
And so you know, it was good, good to get
out of there that, you know, with a win, and
you know any region win on the road is tough.
So glad to get back home this week.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
And I know running the football is always key, and
you've got several guys that you feel comfortable handing the
football off too.
Speaker 11 (08:47):
Yeah, you know four guys now that are healthy with CJ.
Pink coming in there, so you know, Jalen Nelson's getting better.
Speaker 10 (08:52):
You know.
Speaker 11 (08:53):
Part of the reason with Jalen you're not seeing as
many reps. Has just been a little banged up early
in the season. But CJ and Jordan Waitees have been great,
so you know, good to be able to distribute the ball.
It keeps those guys healthy. All of our kids have
bought into that. You know, when you look at you know,
a guy getting you know, fifteen to twenty snaps in
a game, you know that can be frustrating at times.
But sometimes you'll see multiple you know, backs on the
(09:13):
field together. So and then of course you'll have Blake
back this week. So that is massive, you know, just
in practice being able to do all the things we
want to do and be multiple, and you know, it's
it's easy, you know when he's when he's hurt to
kind of look away and you know, fix it and
find the next thing. And you know, get Eli Brogden
and those guys in and they've done a great job,
but they're not like him as far as their versatility.
You know, these guys are blockers and their physical bangers.
(09:35):
And when you bring him back in, you get a
pass catcher and a ball carrier and you just get
more and so it opens up the playbook and then
not on him, but you know Ben at young as well,
you know it'll be nice to get him back because
he's a really smart player on the perimeter, a good blocker,
so he helps expand the playbook as well.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
I was trying to think of a player, you know,
that I've watched growing up. Maybe that kind of reminds
me of kind of how Blak is to this team.
And I got to thinking about the mid nineties Auburn
team Keith Evans. Yeah, he could just catch it, he
could run it, he could do anything for Auburn. He
was such an integral part of those teams for Terry
Batten the mid nineties there at Auburn. And Blake's kind
of the same way.
Speaker 12 (10:09):
For you.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
He can catch it, he can run it.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
I don't know, I think throw it yet you might
might might have a little cinkle there for him, but
he could run it out of the way. He could
do anything, you no doubt.
Speaker 11 (10:16):
Well, and then when you saw Evans get hurt, you know,
at Auburn, it changed their season two. And so, you know,
I think for for Blake, you know, he's such a
you know, not only his ability, but also his leadership
and the belief that the other kids having him, you know,
is just crucial to our success as well. So when
he was in himself against Auburn, that hurt us, you know.
And so again great to get him back. He's he's
(10:38):
a really good football player and hopefully we keep him
healthy down the stretch.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Pike Road saw him last year, went there, had our
hands full. It took a I mean got up really big.
They came storming back and had to make some plays
in the second half to secure that win. And this
is a team last year and went to the fourth
round of the playoffs with the quarterback that's playing now.
The quarterback you know that's at Auburn now that we
saw against Pike Road, right, he got hurt after.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Tho, but like a game.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
And so this is a sophomore that's really good at quarterback.
And I know they've got some talented guys all.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Over the place.
Speaker 11 (11:06):
Absolutely, you know they're they're top five six A team
for sure. You know we've we've seen are about to
see two of the top six A teams with them
and benjam Russell. I mean, golly, they're both really good
and obviously they're you know, their schedules telling it too,
and their scores. So yeah, I mean, you know, Granger
is a good friend of mine and coach Schuk he
does a great job there. You know, a ton of
(11:27):
respect for him. And he's got great experience. You know,
he's been it's really high level places and and really
has built that program. You know, he knew this was
going to be kind of the year. You know, they
got their linebacker course as good as I've ever seen.
I mean, they got three Division one linebackers you know
that are really special players. A defensive end committed to Sanford.
You know, they've got offensive skilled people that will just
(11:48):
you know, we'll tear it up man and just you know,
seventy yard touchdowns and take a stand screen to the house.
And you know, the big back is a good player.
In the quarterback you know, is a really good player too,
a sophomore, but he's made some They played with incredible pace,
which kind of allows them to be simple offense.
Speaker 10 (12:05):
We would do it really fast, and so you better
line up right.
Speaker 11 (12:07):
You know a lot of the times as I watch film,
you know, people are out of position and they just
crease those runs and stuff.
Speaker 10 (12:12):
So again, we'll have our work cut out for us.
Speaker 11 (12:15):
This is a really really good football team, extremely well coached,
and one that will continue to prepare for region play.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
One that's already defeated a team in a region and
an Enterprise. They played pratt Wel and uh, you know,
I mean they lost the Enterprise, I should say, but
they defeated Pratice. They played two seven A teams, so
I mean, and they're really the Enterprise game was very close.
Speaker 11 (12:33):
They're up seventeen to nothing in that game, right, So,
I mean, you know, this is a this is a
seven A region to type opponent. And uh, you know again,
we're we're gonna have to play really well and from
this point forward it's its own and and uh you know,
every game will be like this and be close and
be a battle, you know. And so we're excited about that.
We want to see what our growth has been over
the last two weeks. You know, where where are we
(12:53):
now after really trying to polish them things and clean
some things up again, We're excited about the opportunity to
play at home and again to take another step forward.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Pike Road and Bulldog Stadium Friday night, two home games
back to back. Just three more home games on the schedule,
So need a good crowd Friday night, Bulldog Stadium kick
off against seven o'clock, and we'll have it for you
right here on the Kicker. I's hope youll like coach
Brian Moore, coach appreciate the time, Thanks so much.
Speaker 10 (13:14):
Thank you Van, and go dogs.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
All right, we'll come back.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
More of the High School Coaches Show continues after this
live from Mose Barbecue in Auburn.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
After this here on the Kicker.
Speaker 12 (13:23):
Welcome Back to Moe's Barbecue. High School Coaches Show continues
on ninety seven point seven Kicker FM shows brought to
you in part by our good friends at Gory's Frontiture Express,
Frederick Dean Funeral Home, Incrematory and Orthopedic Clinic. And how
could we do it without Moles Barbecue. All our coaches
get to order and they get to bring a guests
if they will, and order, get some good food off
(13:45):
the menu. Anything they want, they get to get it,
you know, they get to have it and eat it.
And we are live at Moe's on this beautiful Wednesday evening.
Glad to have you. We need de Mark, Jeff, Van
Jason all here. As you know. Batty Wren, head coach
Adam Hunter in the house. The Rams coming off a
thirty four to twenty one went over Marbory. They were
opened the week before that. They lost to Central Clay
(14:07):
twenty nine to twenty one and the third week of
the season beat Smith's Station in thirty seven twenty one
and open with a twenty fourteen went over Glenn we
good evening, coach, Hey, how you doing all right? Adam Hunter,
Good to see you man good win last week, coach, congrats.
It was you know, doing on the road there.
Speaker 13 (14:22):
You know, it's it's a home getting there, and we
kind of talked to the kids. You know, historically we
haven't played really good there, you know all the times
we've gone there, so you know, not one of our
best games. It felt like we left some points off
the board and it kind of was out of our
hands with that. We had two touchdowns called back, so
you know, with that anytime you have a good team
(14:43):
and you leave them in the game. And it was
their homecoming, so you know, we had to fight for
four quarters. So but you know, surprisingly well, you know,
the kids handled adversity well. You know, had some things
happen that was out of our control that they couldn't control,
but they kept fighting and it didn't give up and
you know put it away right there at the end.
Speaker 12 (15:02):
Well sounds like it. Coach who played well for me,
give me some names.
Speaker 14 (15:05):
You know, Caden Foreman, our quarterback played really well.
Speaker 12 (15:08):
He inconsistent, interrupt you. He seems like he's been steady, Eddie.
Speaker 13 (15:12):
He had four touchdowns. He threw for over two hundred
and thirty yards. I think it was like two thirty
seven to forty seven. So he played real good offensively.
You know, we had some big plays. Aidan Johnson at
receiver really stepped up for us.
Speaker 12 (15:25):
He played well.
Speaker 13 (15:26):
Uh he had over one hundred yards all purpose and
a touchdown. So you know, those guys offensively, they played
really well. Defensively, you know, Uh, Nikkeelan Linsen played well.
Brandon McCullough outside linebacker played well. So those guys, you know,
really stepped it up and played a really good game
(15:46):
for us.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
How long Brandon been playing for you, coch?
Speaker 14 (15:48):
This is his Uh, he's a junior, so he started.
Speaker 12 (15:52):
He started last year.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
He started as a seems like that.
Speaker 13 (15:56):
Yeah, you know he he gets after. He was a
big one for us last year as well.
Speaker 12 (15:59):
Right, Okay, and your quarterback has been with you a while.
Speaker 13 (16:02):
Too, and yeah, well he transferred into US last year.
But you know he's he's done a good job. You know,
smart kid. Really understands coveragesh takes care of the football.
Speaker 12 (16:11):
So, all right, Russell anymore on this anymore on Marbor
you bring up all that.
Speaker 15 (16:15):
That's good.
Speaker 14 (16:16):
You know, it's just a good road win, you know,
and we had to win.
Speaker 12 (16:18):
On the roads, and you got a region win at
that huge game this week nine Region Russell County undefeated,
very good football team. It's gonna be a big physical game,
I would imagine, coach.
Speaker 14 (16:29):
It is, you know, and we want to be there
in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
That's home.
Speaker 12 (16:32):
You know.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
That's why I say that.
Speaker 13 (16:34):
You know, you're playing a really good Russell County team,
probably the best Russell County team that they've had.
Speaker 12 (16:39):
Yeah, I agree with you, coach.
Speaker 13 (16:40):
You know, you've got a quarterback that can really spend it,
reads coverage as well, UH, takes care of the football,
doesn't force anything. And you know they run the ball
really well too. That's one thing people don't look at.
And you know they run the ball well.
Speaker 14 (16:54):
And defensively, they get after their fast.
Speaker 13 (16:55):
Defensively, big upfront. You know, linebackers get downhill hard. You know,
they attacked the football. So you know, we really got
our hands cut out. You know, it's gonna be a
it's gonna be a tough game. You know, anytime you're
playing somebody in a bigger classification that's undefeated. Uh, you know,
we we've got our hands full. So we preach to
the kids we want to be close in the fourth quarter.
If we can keep it close, that's a big win
(17:17):
for us.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
You know, coach. The quarterback is very efficient, like twenty
twenty five of us. That's right, Yeah, sixty five touchdown.
Speaker 12 (17:24):
That's they played at noon.
Speaker 14 (17:26):
Oh yeah, they did play, that's right.
Speaker 12 (17:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (17:30):
So he you know, he's a good kid. He's he's
huge for them.
Speaker 13 (17:34):
You know, he's he's really grown as a quarterback from
last year to this year. The maturity he's gotten, you know,
he's he does a good job with their offense.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
You know, I've never seen him play, but I read
about him. That's right when he was you know, he
was up for playing.
Speaker 12 (17:46):
He tells us about him, Well he's playing. I mean
he just back like go ahead.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
Well, like I said, he was efficient. I mean that's
pretty good.
Speaker 12 (17:54):
That's pretty that's twelve o'clock kick Saturday. Thank you. Yeah,
And I don't want to there's a lot to say
about that.
Speaker 16 (18:01):
As you know, yeah, I know they've been Yeah, I
played on a Saturday, crazy ball it is, you know
what coach, I'm I'd venture to say, and I ain't
sure I'd be off by much.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Those five incompletions might have been dropped past.
Speaker 12 (18:15):
Yet, like what you guys got to do? I know,
score more points, but what you got to do?
Speaker 13 (18:19):
You know, I think you got to take care of
the football. I think we've got to establish the run
a little bit. I think we've got to keep the ball.
I think we've got to offensively, we got to control
the game.
Speaker 14 (18:29):
You know, we've got some guys defensively, this younger.
Speaker 13 (18:32):
I mean, you know they may be older as and
the seniors and juniors, but they haven't played in a
lot of games. They're they're they're not young in the
sense of this year, but you know, they they they're
really growing up fast and they're having to grow up fast.
Speaker 12 (18:43):
So and you had an open week, they didn't play,
that's right, yeap, So that you missed that game.
Speaker 13 (18:48):
You know, so we we we gotta we gotta get
after That's that's.
Speaker 12 (18:51):
When we get prepared for this team. You've got Silicaga,
Elmore County. Hope will board you got and I mean
this year is you got five. You've got the gaunt
in front of you. You know, then the city the
serious business. Every game serious. But how do you approach
this game knowing you got that behind you? Wait, you
know I'm being honest.
Speaker 14 (19:07):
You know we're so thin man, our depths. You know,
it's it's it's thin. So you know, we got to
take care of ourselves. We go in every game trying
to win it. You know, that's the name of the game.
Speaker 12 (19:17):
I understand. Yeah, you know.
Speaker 13 (19:19):
The thing is this game that we don't don't we
don't base our season off this game. We got, we
got four. Next the next serious game that's gotta be.
We got to be on our pie's of q's about
so you know, you just you go out there and
tell them to compete and be in the game.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
So well, that's that's what I thought.
Speaker 10 (19:35):
Adam.
Speaker 12 (19:35):
Good to see you, buddy. Best of luck this week,
big home game, need a big crowd, non region game,
but still.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Need a big crash.
Speaker 12 (19:41):
That's right, that's right, go round, Adam Hunter, head coach
of the Battie Rams in the house. We're at Moe's Barbecue.
We're gonna take a break and come right back with
more coaches.
Speaker 5 (19:50):

(20:11):
next up's Auburn Highest coach Keith Aswich.
Speaker 12 (20:13):
Good afternoon, coach, tell you good afternoon, Get radiation.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Good food.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
You've been in Auburn for six years and five five.
It's a fifth season. But did you get that? I mean, yeah,
I was here year for you.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Yeah, I got here everywhere. Yeah, fifth season. Okay, well
I can.
Speaker 12 (20:30):
Read fifth season.
Speaker 5 (20:32):
Yeah, yeah, I saw I was saying five good years.
Speaker 10 (20:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
Yeah, you know I've been Georgia being here, coach, We
have been.
Speaker 12 (20:39):
I've en George being here. He has been good for us.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Before last week, Jag coach, Uh, you had him at
home kind of you know, I've seen him play, so
it's kind of what I expected. Did everybody get to play?
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Everybody got to play. Almost everybody got in.
Speaker 17 (20:54):
I think I think that a lot of our young
guys played the second half.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
We didn't play our older guys.
Speaker 17 (20:59):
Second hand, so you know, got at a lot of
young guys in. Got to see some guys, uh that
I wanted to see, you know, and you know I
thought they they played well.
Speaker 10 (21:10):
But we ended the half is fifty.
Speaker 17 (21:12):
Six nothing and a half, it's fifty six rand run. Yeah,
we ran the second half and you know, we weren't
looking to put in points up. We just looking to
get some guys some work. And you know, we got
that done. And you know, the young guys came in,
kept the goose egg on the board, so that was good.
You know, it's just good to see those young guys
get an opportunity to.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
Talked about that Saturday. You know, you're up fifty six
and a half. Yeah, it's got anything. I mean, everybody
got to play. Ye ain't no reason to kick a dead.
Speaker 17 (21:39):
Horse, g No, and you know, you want to stay healthy.
We did get a couple of guys banged.
Speaker 15 (21:44):
Up, but you know, probably have a couple out.
Speaker 17 (21:47):
This you know Friday, but you know, hey, it's not
a region game.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
You know, we want our guys go in.
Speaker 17 (21:53):
We want to get some good work going into you know,
we got some big region games coming up.
Speaker 18 (21:59):
I mean, you got interest some really good teams.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Ready loaded up on the back end. Coach, somebody asked us,
what do you think about Jack? I said, many, the
team that sprinkled with some really good athletes. They are
in there. They got something now they got a team
for Yeah, the number three was the one that impressed me.
He's going to bring.
Speaker 15 (22:19):
Down three one uh five.
Speaker 18 (22:22):
That's some good, good looking kids.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
That what they always do. They just ain't got enough
of them. Their coach has changed so much.
Speaker 12 (22:27):
I just just like you said that earlier. Yeah, I
asked him this for you were there asking folks that
didn't know. Ask him this morning when you called Montgomery,
do you not he don't know who the coach is
going to be from year to year, who it's going
to be. And you even said that I was right
that you never know what what what's gonna happen, you know,
(22:48):
from year to year, and that's you got to have
that continuity, absolutely to have some continuity on the team.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
So any just a few coaches, I can think of it,
stayed there long enough till something better come on.
Speaker 12 (23:00):
You had the older guys were there our picket you know,
oh yeah, Charles Lee Live those guys were there for.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
That was back in the eighties.
Speaker 12 (23:10):
I know they haven't had anybody. They were now out
put property status.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
They took of the n I L and the transfer porterback.
Speaker 18 (23:17):
Now it's like we talked about earlier.
Speaker 17 (23:19):
There's some really good teams in the Montgomery area. But yeah,
all the kids kind of migrated.
Speaker 18 (23:23):
One place.
Speaker 12 (23:24):
You made a good comment, Yeah, like it.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
Carver a magnet school.
Speaker 12 (23:27):
There are no no there, but they're passing school.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
Yeah, they're one of the ones that every boy that's okay, Yeah, yeah,
that's right if yeah, rest of them stating some of
them are, I think I don't know. I don't either,
but that doesn't hurt though.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
You just pick up.
Speaker 12 (23:41):
I think they all are, except Carver, because they were
when they got the most.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
Hey can you take it? Can you get choose money
from going to a passing school from place?
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Yeah, to see there.
Speaker 17 (23:50):
To help with your supplies and you and and you
got some magnet schools there, Yes, they are.
Speaker 12 (23:55):
There are Brooker t Magnets. When of the work, the
tea in lamp Lamp, yep, yep.
Speaker 17 (24:01):
And and you got a lot of private schools, you know,
but Athletic Montgomery, aad of me, Saint James and the.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Heap of them Coachy.
Speaker 18 (24:10):
And those are some really good.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
I wonder how many people live in East Alabama driving
to work live a lot.
Speaker 12 (24:18):
Let's go back to the Moody real quick about Moody.
Speaker 15 (24:21):
Very talented team.
Speaker 17 (24:22):
You know a lot of D one guys on this team,
you know, really really talented, you know.
Speaker 18 (24:28):
And they've done a really good job.
Speaker 17 (24:29):
Played for the state championship in five last year.
Speaker 12 (24:32):
He has done a good job coaching there. They they've
got a really good team.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
You know.
Speaker 17 (24:35):
One of my one of my favorite players of all
time is coaching their DBS to Darryl Marshall.
Speaker 5 (24:41):
He played.
Speaker 17 (24:41):
He started fifty four games from me at quarterback. Started
from the time he walked in as the ninth grader.
We played for three state championships.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
One he played one of his junior and senior year.
Speaker 18 (24:52):
Never missed the game.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Moodia.
Speaker 10 (24:55):
Yeah, big R was right now, well he's you know,
he was.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
He played at a B.
Speaker 17 (25:00):
He would have played in the NFL he tours the up,
had some nerve damage, but would have played dB in
the n f L. I truly believe that did it
his senior year. So he Uh so we went into
coaching and uh they Jake had a Jake had a spot.
He was getting his UH certification, he was on emergency
(25:20):
certification and they had a spot man that he you know,
worked out perfect for him, you know, and he's he's
he's done a really good job.
Speaker 8 (25:28):
You know.
Speaker 17 (25:28):
I've tried to steal him away a couple of times.
Speaker 5 (25:31):
I know that I got Janus Jake Gannis is a call.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
I can see.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
I'm standing on the sideline last year in the championship.
Speaker 17 (25:38):
Remember, Yeah, they've got they've got it.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
They've done a really good job over there.
Speaker 17 (25:41):
They won a lot of games, and he's got there's some,
there's some they got some dudes, buddy.
Speaker 12 (25:46):
Yeah, you have a good week. Yeah, we had a
great week of practice.
Speaker 17 (25:49):
You know, great week of practice, great week of preparation.
Speaker 8 (25:52):
You know.
Speaker 17 (25:53):
Uh, I think that, uh it's gonna it's it's gonna
be a good football game. I think that, you know,
it's a good tat It's good for us to see
what they have going because you know, I mean we're
playing Central the next week.
Speaker 18 (26:06):
Who has a ton of talent too.
Speaker 17 (26:07):
Yeah, so yeah, you get to see that before you
go into the Central game. So they've got some guys
really run. You know, some guys on the back end
who are really talented too. D Lineman with power five offers.
You know, a linebacker's got power. He's committed Alabama, you know,
as a junior. So you know they're they're really really good.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
So what sounds that sounds like Jackson?
Speaker 12 (26:29):
I know about like that?
Speaker 18 (26:32):
I mean, you know they're gonna be playing.
Speaker 17 (26:33):
They're probably gonna be playing for the private state championship again. Yea,
you know they're gonna be playing and Jacksons gonna be
playing playing championships.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
You're probably right.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
He gets it.
Speaker 12 (26:42):
I'm gonna tell you something. He's done a great job.
He gets a lot of credit. They says a lot
of transfers. But you know what, I'm not worried about
that because they are doing right right, They do it right.
He's done a heck good job there.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
They following the rules.
Speaker 17 (26:53):
No matter, as long as longs you ain't going out
there and getting them, they won't come play there.
Speaker 12 (26:58):
That's what you tell me about you JV middle school
before we go.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Oh, man, we've had good years. Man.
Speaker 17 (27:03):
We went to we lost one enterprise the other night,
went down there.
Speaker 12 (27:08):
That's a tough trip, tough football.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
You know.
Speaker 17 (27:10):
It's up twenty one seven in the fourth quarter, and
I think we stub up some guys and they sort
of got gotta gotta got a touchdown and we kind
of threw a bounce one off the kid's head. They
picked it off running in for a touchdown. So we
lost in overtime like twenty four to twenty one. But
other than that, we've been been undefeated.
Speaker 8 (27:30):
You know.
Speaker 17 (27:30):
So I've had a really good season. Got some really
good young guys that are that I've been really impressed with.
We've had a couple that had played so good in
the JV games that they've came up and got playing
time on Washington.
Speaker 12 (27:41):
Goods still helping with the middle school.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
No, he's retired.
Speaker 12 (27:45):
Somebody is keeping changed one night.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
Man, he does it for the flag football.
Speaker 12 (27:49):
That's what all right? Somebody I said that, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
I didn't even know if he's still in all it's.
Speaker 12 (27:56):
You ain't gotta love that guys, coach, We love you.
Speaker 10 (27:59):
Thank y'all appreciate.
Speaker 12 (28:02):
Auburn High Friday night, not tomorrow night. Friday night at
the duck. No, no on the road, No at the duck. Okay,
at the duck. Yeah, we gotta get this right. At
the Duck Friday night, not Thursday. All right, We're at
thence Coool Coaches Shoe Mos Barbecue. We'll roll light along
with our next coach when we come back.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
Hey, good afternoon, Welcome back to the High School Coaches Show,
coming to you live from Mose Original Walterionfew. Of course
it's brought to you all. What's the Peter Clint uh
Fredery Dean Funeral Home and Gorry's Furnitship Express and next up,
so yous head coach coach Michael Corson. Good afternoon, coach,
how are you good?
Speaker 19 (28:34):
You?
Speaker 4 (28:35):
I'm good, I'm good you.
Speaker 12 (28:36):
Uh all right?
Speaker 5 (28:37):
Coach? Last week you were in region play. You had
glenn Wood. They're a good team. We won the region
last week.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
Yeah, they're a really good team, really good team.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Oh you lost, you lost forty to Uhing. This week
you'll have Loacha Poke. But let's talk about Glynnwood this week.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
Now.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
Poker will be a non Region one correct, all right,
last week Glenwood. I hadn't seen him play this year.
Speaker 7 (28:53):
So solid, solid team. Coach Nelson. He's got a good squad,
big up front, a lot of speed running back. They
got they got a couple of running backs. But we
saw firsthand they and I mean they got receivers to
they get. They got athletes all over the field. They
threw a bubble screen first play the game. They housed it.
(29:14):
Their second play they gave it to the Judah kid
and he took off too. So they're tough to tackle.
You know, they got a lot of size. But I'm
telling you, they they look they looked, they looked the part.
But coach Nelson does it the right way. And you know,
(29:34):
we lost our quarterback in the first quarter. That kind of,
you know, put us behind there. You know, we were
just kind of trying to figure out what we could
and couldn't do.
Speaker 12 (29:47):
That that kind of happens.
Speaker 18 (29:48):
You Yeah, we were.
Speaker 7 (29:49):
Trying to put you know, what can our guys execute
and you know, and they, of course Glenwood wants to
take that away, and you know, it was just more
of you know, we get these guys in here and
see if we can kind of get them some reps
and and see what we can do.
Speaker 12 (30:02):
So is he done for the year I got in
this interview.
Speaker 7 (30:05):
He's not done. Yeah, he's in the protocol. He'll be
evaluated Saturday morning.
Speaker 12 (30:11):
And I say, oh, okay, I don't mean it's okay.
Speaker 7 (30:12):
I absolutely no. He went down and anybody get hurt.
We knew it was we knew it was serious and
immediately pulled him in.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
And there's different levels of severity.
Speaker 7 (30:22):
Yes, yes, this is pretty rough. You know that symptoms
the symptoms check his was his was up there, so
you know we're monitoring him. And and he's walking around
to school with sunglasses on.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
I had to do that before he got hit in
the head with the gate. I did left the dent
right it still have it right there? Not me out, yeah,
I mean, just shut me the coach. It was a
single person, nobody around. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (30:47):
Yeah, it was a spring wrought iron gate that sprung
the wrong way, and if I didn't have my glass on,
it probably cracked my skull. But my point, it shut
me down for a month. Yeah, I couldn't read and
comprehend it. It scared me so bad. That's the thing to
So everybody tells me.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
I worry about him.
Speaker 7 (31:03):
So but that's the thing with the symptoms is confusion.
Speaker 12 (31:06):
And yeah that when you can't read.
Speaker 7 (31:08):
One of them literally says, uh, you don't feel like yourself.
Speaker 12 (31:12):
Coach, I didn't know who I was and I could
read something and not know what I read. That's scary.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
And you can just about tell when someone can cuss
on football, I couldn't call. You can look at you,
I mean you can look how they fall, how they
how their body tenses up and they.
Speaker 12 (31:28):
Look and they're just kind of you don't see there.
But if you ever see one there, you saw his
glazed over the eyes.
Speaker 7 (31:33):
I'm sure no, and he when you know, and it
was it was like a quarterback run and he got
in there in the middle and linebacker came down and
I mean it was it was a pop and we
got him over there he was, I mean, and you
know there his emotions go crazy, you know, and it
was and it was hard. And it's one of our
coaches kids too. So his dadd was right there with him,
(31:54):
his mom was right there. So that kind of means
a lot to absolute.
Speaker 12 (31:57):
Well, I don't I take those things is from what
I've been through. Absolutely, But go ahead, you all right, coach.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
So this week he got those focal non region games.
They scored forty.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Nine against Real Town.
Speaker 7 (32:08):
Yeah, that running back they had went for what one
hundred and seventy five yards had a touchdown j kJ.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
Carter in Real Town. I guess or was it the
quarterback it had such good or running back? Somebody had
five touchdown them? Yeah, probably running.
Speaker 7 (32:21):
Back and uh jo I talked to Johnson at Real Town.
He said, hey, man, he said they he said they
had a really really good offensive night, number three. Yes,
real good, he said, he said, he said they they
were clicking that night. So you know, you just put
your head down and go back to work.
Speaker 19 (32:39):
Man.
Speaker 7 (32:39):
We got to stop number three, and we got to
stop kJ and and and uh you know, I don't
want to say we want to make him past the ball.
He could throw it too, but we got to figure
out what we can take away.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
And you don't want to play them in baseball either.
Speaker 12 (32:51):
About seventy three and forty nine, Yeah, that is a
ton that some high school.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
Yeah, yes, that's why. And then uh, you know, put
forty on a team like Real Town and coach Johnson,
that's impressive. You know what I mean more than end
You turn around, you see they put seventy three on him,
but they got that high toward offense.
Speaker 12 (33:08):
But yeah, he'sh don't give up to that point.
Speaker 7 (33:11):
No, But but I mean he was super complimentary of
what coached all of them. Do they had to score
a bunch, yeah, yeah. So when we look at that,
we're like, I mean, we got to figure out a
way to get the end zone because these guys, these
guys are athletic and they're gonna score too.
Speaker 12 (33:23):
Now, who's playing quarterback for you?
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Now?
Speaker 12 (33:24):
Right now?
Speaker 7 (33:25):
We got Brody Peacock.
Speaker 12 (33:26):
Okay, Brody Peacock.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
You know, we had it was Hunter d Ball and
then Kimanie was his backup. Kamani's out with an ankle,
and then we had our I guess our third train
was gonna be Tristan Robinson. He's had a knee issue.
So now we're broad in. Brody's got a I mean,
he's young, he's a young kid, he's tenth grader. He's
got a pretty good arm. But you know, he he's
been playing back and inside linebacker for so we're trying
(33:49):
to get him up to speed and he's had a
good week though he's really has taken to it. You know,
he's he's been serious out there and trying to learn, so,
you know, and this could be something that kind of
moves him forward helps in the future too.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
Yeah. So this is the same year that I've known
since we been part of the show that.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
You had.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
They had some unfortunate things. Remember the COVID year around.
Speaker 12 (34:13):
They wrote the book on COVID and.
Speaker 7 (34:17):
Bed were literally I said, dude, this, I feel like
we're in that COVID year. He said, I agree, because
we're losing guys every years, of them for a week
or two weeks. And he was like, you know, you
know it's hard for us to sit, you know, sit
there on the weekends and look at personnel and scheme.
We don't even know who.
Speaker 12 (34:32):
I ran in an arrange storm with in a gym
with somebody. Next thing the band had with the band
after team got COVID. Yeah, I'll never forget that.
Speaker 7 (34:39):
Yeah, saving them from a storm. That was the first day,
the first and that was the first. Uh, it was
like the day before you couldn't make it up. And
then and then they uh it was what was wild
was like all them guys got COVID and then they
tried to shut us down too because we read the
same gym with them. You know, so is a wild I.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
Just remember that. It makes you think you how to
There's a lot of teams that never had a covid
isshow but.
Speaker 12 (35:03):
They didn't have no choice. They were they were anyway.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
Well, I know, I mean, I wonder how they skirted around.
Speaker 12 (35:10):
Tell me about your before we go, tell me about
your practice week.
Speaker 7 (35:13):
I mean, we've had pretty good I think today has
been our best day. I think it cooled down just
a little bit. Money chuesa. It was hot, but I
mean we used to hot. It has summer in Alabama.
But but no, I think we've had a good week
for what we're missing as far as our guys. So
we need guys to step up. That's what we told
them today. And we told them, hey, you gotta go
(35:33):
at versity. We're in the middle of it Versua right now.
Men don't run in the rank, so let's go get it.
Speaker 12 (35:38):
Coach, good, you got it. I appreciate a few of
the Bobcats in the house will take a break from
Mose Barbecue. High School Coaches Show continues.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
Welcome back to the high School Coaching Show. It's Jeff's
that's three more Mitchell Jason Early. We got Dan Riggs
in the house and we're coming to you live from
Moe's Original Barbecue. Of course, it's talking to you about
the Or'speedy Clinic, Freddy Dan Funeral Home, Goory's Furnashire Express.
And next up is coach Joey Burt's and Spremewood School coach.
Last week you had Heritage Christian. Of course, all of
(36:10):
them as reading games.
Speaker 13 (36:11):
You know.
Speaker 12 (36:11):
Yeah, he don't play, ain't.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
Play around.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
That's all Region fifty five eighteen coach. You want to
talk about that one.
Speaker 18 (36:19):
I was a good win.
Speaker 12 (36:20):
Yeah, we didn't say I ain't got that started.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Everybody knows he won.
Speaker 20 (36:24):
He started a little slow, you know, we're starting too freshman,
little bitty kids.
Speaker 18 (36:28):
At cornerback.
Speaker 20 (36:29):
H Ford ponders the one guy, he's about soaking wet,
about five seven, about one hundred and fifteen pounds, and
then on the other side we back him up with
Walker Fuller and he's about five six maybe.
Speaker 18 (36:41):
About one hundred and twenty, little heavier, So.
Speaker 20 (36:43):
They went at him early and often and got up
about twelve. Nothing was a little bit worried, and we
ain't got nobody to replace him, and we ain't got
no where to hide them.
Speaker 18 (36:52):
So those two young men grew up a lot.
Speaker 20 (36:54):
So did what settle Down, do what we coached him
to do, Coach Watkins and coach playing That made some
good changes there on defense, and we finally got rolling,
and I think we rolled off a whole bunch and
they I think they scored last couple.
Speaker 18 (37:08):
Of seconds there to wrap it up.
Speaker 20 (37:10):
So it was a great game for those two young men.
Walker's brother a Carter Fuller. He plays center and outside linebacker.
He's really coming along and hadn't bragged on him a lot.
And I got a couple of other guys H had
Remy Gant, he is outside linebacker, tight end. He caught
a pass on for a touchdown, long pass for tight end,
and then he had two defensive scores.
Speaker 18 (37:31):
He did a pick six.
Speaker 20 (37:33):
Uh, we had watched the them and they got in
a particular formation. He jumped it and took that thing
to the house and then he scooped and scored. So
he had three touchdowns out on ball. T's had three
interceptions and Tuck her side. Our main dude got back healthy,
got to say his name. He he had a great game.
I think he scored through four touchdowns as well.
Speaker 18 (37:51):
So we getting folks back healthy and really really.
Speaker 20 (37:54):
Started to come in her own. So got a big
game this week coming up. If we played well, things
can set up well force, you know, to finish a
year up that with a good jog.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
Imagine is this Montgomery coach? This is I I had
to ask because there's a couple of Evangels and there's
a Ezekiel and I get them from.
Speaker 20 (38:09):
Yeah, evangel is always athletic. They'll have twenty or thirty
guys out there that can run and get up down
the field.
Speaker 18 (38:15):
So it's gonna be a big challenge for us.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
All right, got everybody about you help getting Healthyer getting healthy.
Speaker 18 (38:20):
We're getting healthy. And that made a difference, a big difference.
Speaker 5 (38:23):
You're undersized defensive back corner. Yep, they ready to go.
Speaker 18 (38:28):
They're ready to go.
Speaker 20 (38:29):
They've had a decent week of practice, which one pack
the most punch on Walker comes up, he's gonna hit you.
But Ford has really come into his own. We've got
a Player of the week and Ford made Player of
the week. They both made tremendous.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
Struct These are both a freshmen. They're both freshmen, all right,
coach getting after.
Speaker 20 (38:46):
So I think we've got two seniors another senior. Let
me brag on one of our defensive line. And this
kid's been with us. He's an international student. He has
been with us for this is three or four years
going on. He's finally a senior and it's on the
clip for him. He's a big guy for us. He's
about six foot maybe about to sixty and he plays
d tackle.
Speaker 18 (39:05):
His name is Richie.
Speaker 12 (39:07):
Simmy Yamammy Yim.
Speaker 20 (39:09):
He is from the Congo Okay, and uh he is
really the light of switched on.
Speaker 18 (39:15):
He's he's this is now well, I probably didn't say
it right.
Speaker 12 (39:18):
No, I want him to go back.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
He knows who you're talking about.
Speaker 12 (39:21):
He knows who I'm talking Aimi Yama starts with the
t that tea silent and he is Richie.
Speaker 18 (39:28):
Rich He's from the Cogo here Richie.
Speaker 20 (39:30):
He's been with us, like I said, for for three years.
Speaker 18 (39:33):
And he really stuck with it.
Speaker 20 (39:35):
And he didn't have a clue, you know, coming in
he'd never seen the football game. It, man, he does
good technique now, man, it just that's one of the reasons.
Speaker 18 (39:42):
You do it to see the light switch kick.
Speaker 20 (39:46):
He's about he's about five ten fifty two sixty.
Speaker 18 (39:49):
He's a big kid for us.
Speaker 5 (39:50):
Wow. Last year against Around, you scored eighty eight.
Speaker 18 (39:54):
Yeah, and we ain't go score at the agift now.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
Yeah, you lost some guys graduation and whatever you're gonna.
Speaker 12 (39:59):
Get either, right, we ain't gonna give up either.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
Yeah, I just, I just it was a big score last.
Speaker 20 (40:04):
Yeah, we helped squeak one out about thirty five twenty
eight if we can.
Speaker 12 (40:08):
It's on the road too.
Speaker 18 (40:09):
You take nothing, right, I'll take whatever I'll take to nothing.
Speaker 5 (40:11):
It's on the road to right.
Speaker 18 (40:13):
Yeah, yeah, all right.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
So they play their games.
Speaker 18 (40:15):
They play on campus.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
Okay, yep, they have they got I fork.
Speaker 18 (40:19):
What the name of the church is.
Speaker 20 (40:20):
It's right down from the malls and all down there
in Montgomery. I'm not too familiar. Yeah yeah, right down
there where Dead's in. You take a left and it's
right there's.
Speaker 12 (40:29):
In southern Southern. I know. The feel is uh yeah, East,
it's not Ray. It's not a Southeastern I know.
Speaker 20 (40:42):
They work out of a church and couldn't call the
churches church right now, there's two churches sitting rup back
to back, and there's.
Speaker 12 (40:48):
Baseball fields right there, right right off by Eastern Chase, Yeah,
I mean East Chase. Yeah, out there it's the Southeast.
I can't name the it's the Southeastern. Bought Buddy Watson
Park is the name of the baseball field because I run,
I don't know. I'm over the state in that organization
baseball and we play at that at that you're talking
(41:09):
about a lot of complex around there.
Speaker 20 (41:11):
Yeah, there's a lot of churches right next to East
is it?
Speaker 5 (41:14):
W're Taylor Road, ray Thornton.
Speaker 12 (41:16):
Not that far now you're going down to Montgomery American.
He's right past. So you get off if the AUM
Mexic go left, go past the East. Jason is on
the left.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
I just hope my bus driver get am I.
Speaker 21 (41:28):
Right, he'll look at it is.
Speaker 12 (41:31):
It's a nice place place.
Speaker 18 (41:33):
Yeah, they've done a good job.
Speaker 20 (41:34):
They got a very good basketball team every year, so
I mean they're gonna be very athletic, and it's gonna
be tough to kind of read them in Guinnea Park
in plenty of spaces.
Speaker 12 (41:43):
They got good being good. Joey Birch's good to see
you here.
Speaker 18 (41:47):
Thank you, sir, Thank you.
Speaker 12 (41:48):
Sir Greenwood on the road tomorrow at evangel Christian and Montgomery.
We'll take a break, come back with more from the
Coaches Show at Most Party.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
Hey, good afternoon, Welcome to the high Schiling back. Welcome
back to the High School Coaching Show. It's Jeff Saisser,
de Mart Mitchell, Jason Earle Lee. We got van running
around in here. He's taking care of coaches on the inside.
He's looking after them. We're coming to you from We're
coming live actually from Moe's Original Barbecue, and we're brought
to you by the Orthopedic Clinic. Freddick Dean, Frederick Dean,
funeral harmy criminal tore him and Glory's furnishing Express. And
(42:24):
next up we got coach Miller. Scott didn't come in
not today, all right, all right, well hey that's okay.
Speaker 6 (42:30):
We got coach rolling over here.
Speaker 5 (42:31):
We got coach Bell yep, all right, hey, last week,
let's see, let me keep I don't have a score
for Freedom.
Speaker 6 (42:36):
Of Freedom twenty seven twenty six overtime.
Speaker 4 (42:39):
Thank you, we won, good zill.
Speaker 5 (42:42):
That's one score I didn't have out out every score
in the Stay twenty seven twenty six win. Tell us
about that game, coach, and then we'll move away. We
there's no need to talk about open week, but we
will talk about the week after open week.
Speaker 22 (42:55):
How that Well, actually we got a American Sports prep
next week.
Speaker 6 (42:59):
This week, yeah, this week this Friday.
Speaker 5 (43:02):
Right after the Freedom Cowboys game.
Speaker 6 (43:04):
They called no, no, we've had that scheduled for a minute.
Speaker 5 (43:07):
Now, American Sports preyer, sir.
Speaker 22 (43:09):
And then uh so, yeah, we went up to Huntsville,
got the battle with the Freedom Cowboys. Very physical team,
very well coached, and uh they were ready for us,
which I mean there's a lot of film out there
on us now with everything going live stream and be
able to watch it.
Speaker 5 (43:29):
Are you able to get filmed to return? Okay?
Speaker 22 (43:32):
Yeah, and uh yeah, they're very physical. Ran it right down,
try to run it right right down our throats, very
big quarterback that they had pretty much run up the middle,
run to the outside. I mean we were able to
figure it out and uh you know, stop them.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
Had to come back in the fourth quarter to tie
it back up.
Speaker 5 (43:56):
Was this tame you said that ran the football? They
almost I mean it was a wing tea type just
ran the football right at you.
Speaker 6 (44:01):
Okay, yep, didn't pass much.
Speaker 5 (44:04):
How many times?
Speaker 6 (44:05):
Did they maybe five times five?
Speaker 5 (44:07):
Okay, like third and fifteen, thirty twenty, stuff like that.
Speaker 22 (44:10):
They had they ran the ball then, okay, they were
just trying to mess with us.
Speaker 5 (44:13):
Open you up a little bit. Yep, you won the game.
Twenty seven twenty six. That's a little lower scoring than
what you used to score, though, you just score forty
or better.
Speaker 22 (44:22):
Well, uh, Freedom Cowboys were only averaging think twelve points
per game, giving up very very good defense. But twenty
seven up all against a team like that pretty good.
Speaker 5 (44:34):
Hey, so I know nothing about them?
Speaker 4 (44:36):
Yeah, I can't find anything on them.
Speaker 5 (44:37):
Were they physically big as big as you or bigger?
Speaker 22 (44:40):
What was the I wouldn't say they're a bigger They
just well coached.
Speaker 6 (44:46):
They're just ready.
Speaker 5 (44:47):
Okay, all right, Mark, they right here. It's got an
open week. But they're actually they picked up a game.
They got American Sports Prep for nine to twenty six,
which will be Friday, Yes, sir, where's that going to be?
Speaker 6 (44:59):
Right here at Moore Stadium?
Speaker 5 (45:00):
A good deal?
Speaker 4 (45:01):
What about?
Speaker 5 (45:01):
What do you know about American Sports.
Speaker 4 (45:03):
Prey up code?
Speaker 6 (45:05):
Not much? This is their first year with the high school.
Speaker 5 (45:07):
Where are they from?
Speaker 22 (45:09):
Somewhere between Birmingham and TUSLUSA, it says North.
Speaker 5 (45:14):
Yeah, I don't want to hold courts at cool what
all we're facing the movie. I just want to know
where they were. You have you got much fam on them?
Speaker 22 (45:22):
Yeah, we got quite a bit of film on them.
They're not gonna be near as a problem as the
Freedom Cowboys. They're smaller, slower, weaker. But I can't go
in there with a big hot head.
Speaker 4 (45:41):
And that's how.
Speaker 8 (45:42):
That's how, David b.
Speaker 6 (45:44):
Glath.
Speaker 5 (45:44):
You know, offense, they mix it up.
Speaker 15 (45:47):
What do they do?
Speaker 6 (45:48):
A lot of run, not much pass at all. They
just try to run it down your throat.
Speaker 5 (45:52):
And I just don't see that.
Speaker 11 (45:56):
You.
Speaker 5 (45:56):
I just I just don't picture a run oriented offense, Anthony.
I think about it, man, a lot.
Speaker 12 (46:02):
It's changed a lot, It has changed quite a bit.
Speaker 5 (46:05):
Yeah, But however, I've often wondered, you know, even watching
and I know it's not the same flag. I thought, Man,
somebody's going to come in one day and have somehow
run offense that just eats the people, eat people alive,
you know, big chunks of yards. You know, sure they're
gonna get the flag flag pool somewhere. It's hard to
outrun you know everybody on the field.
Speaker 12 (46:25):
But sometimes he's talking to yall about flag what y'all
don't know.
Speaker 5 (46:27):
No, no, I'm just saying so, I'm thinking the same thing.
I just wait for somebody to come in. It's innovative
enough to come up with the offense.
Speaker 18 (46:34):
And all they do well.
Speaker 12 (46:35):
They are running it both a lot of Trinity and
some of those guys are running it Southernand.
Speaker 5 (46:41):
He said freedom only through it five times.
Speaker 12 (46:43):
That's what most of the guys are.
Speaker 5 (46:44):
Running it now.
Speaker 1 (46:45):
That's what's been doing for years.
Speaker 18 (46:47):
Y'all run it a lot, don't you.
Speaker 15 (46:49):
Well.
Speaker 5 (46:49):
You know they had they had a bell cow there
for years too ago.
Speaker 12 (46:53):
Yeah, but trick you run it, coach. Probably sixty five
percent running it, Okay. I remember last week you were talking,
y'all are upset at one of scott kids. He had
two hundred yards on most y'all upset at him. I'm like, jeez,
he wasn't really good man. Yeah, I know he only
gave two hundred.
Speaker 5 (47:09):
I mean we should have had two forty.
Speaker 12 (47:10):
Think y'all to quit if y'all mad at nimy games
to it, I'm kidding. He had a great night. Anybody
anything else that I.
Speaker 22 (47:15):
Mean, yeah, so Freedom Cowboys. Uh, I think they you know,
they're look at Max Preps. They can see all the
stats they see. You know, Jed Scott, you know, six
hundred yards receiving already, eighteen total touchdowns, I mean, just
killing it.
Speaker 12 (47:28):
That's who y'all played this week.
Speaker 6 (47:29):
Uh, this week we got America's pay.
Speaker 12 (47:30):
Yeah, y'all beat him twenty seven, twenty six.
Speaker 22 (47:32):
Yeah, in overtime against the Cowboys. Yes, and then uh,
I think they just zoned in on him.
Speaker 1 (47:38):
We threw it about three.
Speaker 6 (47:39):
Times to him.
Speaker 4 (47:39):
Two of them were passing interference calls.
Speaker 22 (47:42):
I mean they just put their best corner on them
and then so.
Speaker 5 (47:45):
It was probably good passing the finish calls.
Speaker 6 (47:47):
We got Jagger Scott.
Speaker 22 (47:48):
Now, so Jed Scott has covered Jagger's there, and I
think he had one hundred and three yards receiving and
one hundred and thirty yards rash.
Speaker 12 (47:55):
Yeah, yeah, I think he felt good. Good deal, coach,
You get anything to say for a goat the water
tastes great?
Speaker 4 (48:02):
Does it?
Speaker 12 (48:03):
Good to see you man?
Speaker 5 (48:04):
Yeah, good to see you too.
Speaker 12 (48:06):
All right, Southern Christian at Oh you're open this week,
aren't you? American Sports Prep?
Speaker 18 (48:14):
You wrote it below there.
Speaker 12 (48:15):
Okay, all right, we'll take a break, come back with
our next coach at High School Coaches Show.
Speaker 5 (48:22):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. It's
Jeff's assid de Mark Mitchell, Jason Early. We got Van
Riggs in the house, and of course we're coming to
you live from Moe's Original Barbecue and it's brought to
you Byrs Pete Clintons, Frederick Dean, Frederick Dean Funeral Home,
Gory's Furnasa expressing. Next up's head coach R J McDonald
from a little Nette. Good afternoon, coach.
Speaker 4 (48:42):
How are you hey?
Speaker 12 (48:42):
What's going on?
Speaker 8 (48:43):
Jeff?
Speaker 15 (48:43):
How are you? Man?
Speaker 5 (48:44):
I'm doing very well. Last week, you uh, the Battle
of the L's coach, you won thirty six to nothing.
Had a little excitement during the game. However, you got
the w thirty six to nothing. Let's talk about that
one which y'all play a half?
Speaker 23 (48:55):
Yeah, we'll played one half. They cut it off at halftime.
You know, all this stuff that happened outside of the stadium.
But I thought, I thought, for the most part that
that first half was really really good for us. I
thought we played well on both sides of the football
had a little had a little uh special teams fun
for the beginning, you know, it had kicked out four
(49:16):
times in a row. But other than that, I think
that was probably the only negative part about it. But
you know, we ran for a little bit over I
think two hundred and forty yards and a half. It
was like two fifty something. U then I know for
a fact defense didn't give up but maybe three first
downs to Coach Williams. You probably tell you that, but
I think it was about three three first downs the
(49:37):
whole first half. And you know, we were really solid,
really efficient. You know, like I tell you every week,
we could run the ball, stop the run, We're gonna
make a good spot. And you know, quarterback kind of
scared us a little bit, kind of athletic. The running
backs a little smaller, little little he's a little slippery.
But you know, we did a really good job Corrall
and Coach Williams and then they had a great game
(49:58):
playing on the DEFENSI side of the ball.
Speaker 6 (49:59):
Off we we just were able to, you know, really
play well up front.
Speaker 5 (50:03):
Yeah, it was well, it sounds like you had a
good game, coach. You got the non region game this
week Handley. They just stick around on the schedule. That's
just one of those that's like all in Georgia, right,
that's going to be on the schedule when you're one
A or two A. When you'll dropped one.
Speaker 23 (50:15):
A, you still played Handley, right, Oh yeah, yeah, I
mean they could be a seven eight.
Speaker 5 (50:18):
I'll play them in everything, right, It don't matter what
they played.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
Y'all, play we're playing. If it was tennis, we played
tennis against them, Yeah, but you know, for the most part,
you know, they'll always be on there. I think there
are longest rival or second longest rival.
Speaker 5 (50:30):
Coach, You've played them four You've played them sixty nine
seventy three times, and your record all time versus Hanley
is forty two twenty seven and four.
Speaker 23 (50:40):
Yeah, there are second longest one. Valley's is up there
at number one with eighty two two. And then, uh,
you know, Hanley got a new coach this year. Not new,
I mean he's been on staff for a long time.
Speaker 4 (50:53):
Yeah yeah, Coach White.
Speaker 3 (50:54):
Yeah, you know, but he's taking over coach Straining Coach
Straine hall of famer, you know, oh, you know, but
coach White does a really good job.
Speaker 23 (51:01):
He's gonna do the same stuff. They're a little different
on the offense this year than they have been in
the past. You know, they used to run twenty thousand
formations and run five plays, but now they're they're pretty
much straight eyebone power eye. They don't they don't dev eight.
He played high school for coach White. He didn't play
(51:22):
for Danny Horn. I don't think so. I could be wrong,
but I'm not sure. That sounds like that's a great question.
I'm gonna have to call him later and asking that.
But his offense coordinators wrong. But you know, coach coach
McDonald does a really good job. You know, he's true
to who he is. And that's a that's a really
(51:43):
tough game plan, you know, no matter what every week.
And you know, but coach White, you know, he's the
defensive guy. He does a great job defensively. They're gonna
give you fits. They're gonna be multiple fronts, you know,
multiple different coverages, a lot of different sets. Uh, you know,
they're just they're just a funky defense, you know, to
(52:04):
be honest with you. And then offensively, you know, like
I said, man, he's gonnas gonna be treated who he is.
Speaker 5 (52:08):
Yeah, you could watch the flam on Roger when he
was at Valley and probably figure out what he's gonna.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
Are wherever he's coaching.
Speaker 23 (52:18):
Wherever Roger goes, it's gonna we don't know what he's running, right,
but you know he he does a They do a
really good job.
Speaker 4 (52:24):
They're they're really efficient.
Speaker 6 (52:27):
Uh.
Speaker 23 (52:27):
They run the ball with with good success, and so
it's gonna be a great challenge for us. I'll let
the coach talk about it from a defensive perspective too. H.
Speaker 10 (52:35):
This is what we call it. Let our misering stick game.
Speaker 24 (52:39):
When we play Handler every year, we if we go
up there, play him to or beat him, we know
we got a good chance of making a good deep
run in the playoffs. If we go up there and
we get ran off the field, we know we got
a lot of work to do. So it's a long
standing rivalry from our four days.
Speaker 3 (52:55):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (52:57):
These the young kids don't know about the rivalry because
they just think you just play football every day. The
older guys like myself, we understand what it means to.
Speaker 5 (53:05):
They're familiar with him because they're playing in basketball and baseball.
Speaker 7 (53:08):
And like my dad will tell you, you know, Coach
Williams the same way.
Speaker 23 (53:13):
You know, my dad will tell he he don't care
about nobody being on the schedule except for Hanley.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
Like when he when he said, y'all.
Speaker 23 (53:20):
Playing Handley, that's the first Coachford called me. He'd be like, y'all,
y'all still playing handler? Oh yeah, yeah, but no he uh,
you know that. I will agree with coach Coach williams
Man ever since I've been there. That's been our measuring stick.
You know, how good are we can we play with
these guys and you know, you know they're gonna be
the equipment for us a third fourth round ball club
every year or or you know, a championship typ ball club.
Speaker 12 (53:43):
You know, you know what you get when you play.
Speaker 23 (53:45):
Oh absolutely, and you're gonna get a great environment, especially
up there, you know, and it's gonna be one. I
think our kids aren't afraid of right now, and that's
something that I think as we've been going through this process,
we've seen them mature and I think they have relationship
like they're talking about it. You know, Coach, we want
to get up there, we want to show them what
we are. And you can kind of tell they're real loose, happy,
(54:06):
go lucky. This week, and like you said, we got
a lot of kids that got family up there, you know,
just like Lafittte I mean. And so it's something where
you know, our boys know their boys, and it's it's
a good rivalries. It's a little heated the most for us.
But at the same time, I think it's one where
we can go out there and show who show our
measurer stick.
Speaker 5 (54:27):
Like coach said, Coach, I know they're going to the
shotgun when they punt.
Speaker 10 (54:31):
That's about it.
Speaker 4 (54:32):
That's bad.
Speaker 12 (54:33):
We're talking about the net coaches. One thing about it.
You've lost a three point game to Bullet County to
open you you beat beat of thirty seven thirty Poker
forty one seven, Barbara County fifty one zero, La Fete
thirty six zero a half. That three point lost. Isn't
that bad? They're undefeated, coach, They've got a good team.
Speaker 4 (54:49):
Yea.
Speaker 12 (54:49):
I want you look back and go, wow, you know, yeah,
I know.
Speaker 23 (54:52):
That on hip you any but yeah, you know, if
you don't turn it over three times and you five
and oh yeah, get me right.
Speaker 4 (54:58):
But what could have showed it?
Speaker 8 (54:59):
Right now?
Speaker 12 (55:00):
She's got a good team that beat absolutely.
Speaker 7 (55:03):
Team, a team could possibly win the region.
Speaker 1 (55:07):
You know them, and Hanley, I think, yeah, you know,
And and Booker T.
Speaker 4 (55:11):
Yeah, I think in there and so they are.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
You know, it's it's a it's a that's a tough region.
Speaker 25 (55:15):
Man.
Speaker 15 (55:15):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
We played two out of three and we played Booker
T in the summer, so and we we see them.
And but the good thing for our boys though, is,
you know, as we go up in class, they see
they can play with anybody. And I think that's a
great thing compared to like last year, where we might
have been a little out man, you know, but this year, man,
just the confidence they're they they're caring around like themselves
with it's been really refreshing and good to see.
Speaker 12 (55:38):
All right, before I let you go, tell me about
your young group.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
Guys in there man cutting up five and oh beat
David last night. Probably a tougher game than I think
we anticipated.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
They threw it a lot, but forty four to no.
Speaker 1 (55:51):
No.
Speaker 5 (55:53):
And it's the seventh grader playing both.
Speaker 6 (55:55):
He does, he plays both.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
But our our eighth grader last week ran for over
one hundred yards in the first half.
Speaker 4 (56:02):
How about five times five tackles, five tackles.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
But I think he only ran it five times, had
one hundred yards, so uh. And then last night I
probably ran for about two hundred and something and.
Speaker 12 (56:15):
Anyone play I can't even play it.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
Remember, tell you, listen, listen.
Speaker 4 (56:19):
I'm telling you remember the name p J and J Jayden.
Speaker 12 (56:23):
P J and Jayden.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Tell you.
Speaker 12 (56:24):
When you play in your same age group and you
feel bad you playing them, that's when you know that
you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (56:30):
People think people think you were playing like a.
Speaker 4 (56:35):
Like eleven. He's like twelve.
Speaker 12 (56:38):
Big big game at Hanley this week. Thanks guys, appreciate
that everything went through with you guys. Friday night in
the feed, we'll take a quick break, come back with
more with high school Coaches.
Speaker 5 (56:47):
Hey, good afternoon. Welcome back to the High School Coaches
Show Life and those original barbecue and our sponsors are
the ultim Pede, Clinty, Pretty Dan Funeral Home and Gory
from the Spress. Next stuff is Russell County's coach Dealing Griggs.
Good afternoon, coach, how are you.
Speaker 15 (57:04):
I'm doing well? Always happy to be here, yea.
Speaker 5 (57:06):
They always happy to see you coaching. I haven't uh.
Last week you beat park Crossing at Crampton boll at
noon on a Saturday, thirty eight and thirty six to nothing.
I'm sorry. Quarterback had a day.
Speaker 18 (57:19):
He did.
Speaker 15 (57:20):
Our defense had a day. They they stuck. At the
end of the game. They had negative thirty one yards
of offense.
Speaker 5 (57:26):
That one the stat I saw.
Speaker 4 (57:27):
I was shocked.
Speaker 15 (57:28):
Yeah, no, when I got the stats. You know, we
have a guy who does our stats, I sent it
and I was shocked. Negative thirty one yards of offense.
Speaker 5 (57:36):
I'll tell you what, coach, I've seen games like that,
but not often.
Speaker 15 (57:40):
I don't know that I've ever been apart.
Speaker 5 (57:41):
I saw one where it was a passing team, like
they threw, but they threw underneath kind of stuff in
the backfield and something just lost yards all night.
Speaker 15 (57:48):
Well, and and to be honest with the stat line,
like they're not they're not as bad as that sounds either,
if that makes sense. I mean, I know they had
won a game yet, but they're young, and they're they're
pretty sporty for for for their age and what they got.
Speaker 8 (58:01):
Going on right now.
Speaker 15 (58:02):
But Riggins has always had a great day. You know,
Like I said, you you know, when you're coaching, you know,
a guy like Riggins being on your team, you know,
you don't. You don't worry so much about certain things sometimes.
Speaker 8 (58:14):
Because he's just so consistent.
Speaker 5 (58:15):
How many of the incomplete passes were drop passes? Probably three,
I said. I jumped out there and said, I bet
at least three or four the will drop pass probably three.
So it's really he probably could have been twenty twenty
two or twenty.
Speaker 15 (58:29):
Three fo if it probably if it probably wasn't for
drop passes this year, he'd probably be right at about
fifteen hundred wow for the season, which would put him
right at number one. He's leading the state and touchdown passes, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (58:40):
I see that.
Speaker 5 (58:41):
Well I didn't see that, but I saw these three
for five in that game. Coach, all right, this week
he got Valley High School coach. Last year you beat
in forty two to twenty seven. H This year you're
at Valley.
Speaker 12 (58:51):
At Valley.
Speaker 5 (58:52):
Yeah, you want to talk about the Valley rounds right quick?
Speaker 15 (58:54):
You know, I think this is probably one of the
best rally Valley teams that I've ever seen. Quarter Backs
exceptionally puts the ball where it needs to be.
Speaker 8 (59:03):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (59:03):
Their receiving corps is really sporty as always, They're they're
big upfront in their defense. You know, they run a
style of defense that's really hard tot schematically, you know,
adjust too sometimes, and they play physical and they play fast,
and you know it's really easy to tell why they're
three on one and obviously you know there're one loss
being the central clay. You know, you just don't take
that very lightly. Their noseguard, I think is is is exceptional,
(59:27):
you know, I mean, we're definitely very much in the
depression that they're the best if they're one of, if
not the best team we've seen all year.
Speaker 5 (59:33):
All Right, we scored a lot of points. Coach, you
scored forty two in the first, thirty five, thirty one,
thirty six, and thirty eight. Okay, put those kind of
numbers up against the Rams.
Speaker 4 (59:43):
Is that what you need to do?
Speaker 15 (59:44):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (59:45):
I know, you go score as mean as you can,
unless you know, gets out of hand.
Speaker 15 (59:48):
But you know, we don't ever go in there with
like a set number. And oh, I.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
Know the lives to say.
Speaker 5 (59:52):
I mean, I mean, you've may have to move the football,
you think, I mean, I think I think it's just
gonna be a good football game.
Speaker 15 (59:57):
You know, Yeah, I think we can move the ball,
But I think they can too, you know, like their
offense really is like they throw the ball as good
as anybody as I've ever seen. Their quarterback is very special,
and you know he has the right room of receivers
around him to you know, I mean, it's it's going
to be a week for our dB group. You know,
we hadn't really seen a quarterback like him all year.
(01:00:18):
And this is a robbery game, so you know, like
I mean this, this has turned into a really heated
thing between our school and their school, and so you
just you never know, because you know of how much
it means.
Speaker 12 (01:00:28):
To both sides.
Speaker 5 (01:00:29):
Yeah, you realize you're four nineteen against them. I did
all time, I and that's all time, not you, I
mean yet we.
Speaker 15 (01:00:36):
Yep, nope. I actually you know, we're we're big Alabama
high school historical football guys, and we go to that.
And I actually told our OC the other time, I said,
we've won four games and two of those have been
during our time here. Yeah, you know, this is our
fifth year in a row. This is our fifth year.
Fifth year we played on More two and two and
me and coach over there said this, you know, it's
a tiebreaker year.
Speaker 5 (01:00:55):
So you know, yeah, that's right for you anyway, right
for him too, Okay, because we're both to and two. Yeah,
he's two and two against Valley. We were talking about.
Speaker 12 (01:01:04):
All I know is I'm a little late. Congratulations, great
job five. I know I didn't mean interrupt you, Jeff,
but I'm late to this interview.
Speaker 4 (01:01:10):
Call Brison.
Speaker 5 (01:01:11):
Congratulations too, because you know something for a player of
the week.
Speaker 12 (01:01:13):
Yes he was, I mean and that we you know,
we don't like to say who we vote on because
it's all of them deserve it. But congrats on the win.
And man, you're doing a superb job. Holy okay, here
they ruined our show. Now, I'm just kidding. That's a
good shout out for they didn't ruin it.
Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
But anyway, go.
Speaker 12 (01:01:30):
Ahead, Jif, Yeah, fifty seven on there, But go ahead, Jiff.
I didn't mean to get your thought change, you did.
Speaker 5 (01:01:40):
I know we were talking about Valley. This is a
this is a this is a rival game for them.
He's two and two. He's breaking the tie. He's trying to.
Speaker 15 (01:01:48):
That's what me and coach say. This is the year
of the tie breaker.
Speaker 12 (01:01:50):
Here the tie breaker.
Speaker 15 (01:01:52):
Now, hopefully he'll resign another two year contract. I've asked
him to. So if we don't play them again next year,
it's because he said, no.
Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
Okay, various, who makes the schedule for you guys?
Speaker 4 (01:02:02):
I did?
Speaker 12 (01:02:03):
He didn't know who's that right? Well, he said he
wanted to renew it.
Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
He was sure.
Speaker 5 (01:02:07):
I'm sure Adam gonna do it.
Speaker 15 (01:02:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:02:10):
Yeah, that's that's a wrongal game.
Speaker 15 (01:02:11):
And that's what y'all need to tell him, Like y'all can't.
Speaker 12 (01:02:13):
He's hearing this right now. I ain't tell him what
to do that. Yeah, I ain't telling him.
Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
What to do that.
Speaker 5 (01:02:17):
That's a that's a tough if he's too and two
if you're too and too he's too too correct this
is the year.
Speaker 15 (01:02:21):
Yeah hm, but I see a little different all time there,
but anyway, a little different all time.
Speaker 12 (01:02:26):
Absolutely, Yeah, there you go, So all right, so go ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:02:29):
I didn't want to uh helpful coach. Everybody good. Nobody
got banged up and he ran eight min a quarters.
Everybody played hard to get hurt.
Speaker 15 (01:02:36):
Yeah, I mean, you know, the the two guys that
got hurt the part of the Percy Julian game, they're
out for the year.
Speaker 12 (01:02:42):
But you know, I hate that.
Speaker 15 (01:02:43):
Yeah, I know, we hated they're both seniors. But but thankfully,
you know, we also feel like we have very good depth.
And obviously you know last week we went out there
and like I said, had negative thirty one yards of
defense with those guys. Yeah, we held a negative thirty.
I was shot when I saw the statu coach.
Speaker 12 (01:02:57):
So I was everything with heat and the day and
we obviously you managed it well.
Speaker 15 (01:03:03):
Yeah, no, we thought it was fine. You know, they
had some issues because of the heat, which is why
we went to eight minute running.
Speaker 12 (01:03:08):
Okay, okay, and so because of that, it was hot Saturday.
I thought about you about mid morning when I was
at a rust. I was at a suicide walk for
East Abound Medical Center, a integer of prevention service, and
I went, I bet they're hot on that turf. It
was eleven o'clock my time it was, And I was like, well,
it was been eleven o'clock year time. Won't even thinking
about that, but it was eleven o'clock and I was like, no,
(01:03:30):
it was ten o'clock. Eleven o'clock.
Speaker 15 (01:03:31):
Row was eleven o'clock time. Trouble, I think my time?
Speaker 12 (01:03:33):
Yeah, you know what I was trying to say, Yes,
but you but you were playing at Crampton Bowl on
our time, on our time, it was already it was
already hot, and it was an hour and two hours
Wars game.
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
Yeah, I know, yeah, No.
Speaker 5 (01:03:45):
I thought about him Saturday morning when I didn't have
a score, and I got to think, Hi, well remember you.
Speaker 12 (01:03:49):
You and I talked and I said, just to play
a big news don't forget remember we Well, now that
wasn't me and you, that was somebody else.
Speaker 5 (01:03:53):
Yeah, somebody else.
Speaker 12 (01:03:54):
You know, you were at the at the remote remote.
Speaker 15 (01:03:57):
Like on wood We hadn't even had a kid cramp yet.
This year's so wow, you know. I mean, you know,
like I said, we do inside every day during the summer,
and we don't we don't you know, we're out there
at ten thirty in the morning when it's really hot,
you know. And so even during the week right now,
we do inside on Mondays and Wednesdays every week. I
mean our Wednesday practice is not a relaxed do you
preach of hydration coach? I mean, it's absolutely it's water
(01:04:17):
whenever you want it.
Speaker 5 (01:04:19):
Okay, seven days a week to day. Let give us
a cub halfway through practice.
Speaker 15 (01:04:22):
Grigs Trip five.
Speaker 12 (01:04:23):
And oh standonpell More at home. Hey, I mean excuse me,
Valley on the road before we come back home. This
is a fourth road game, Coach, we need some relief road.
Speaker 15 (01:04:33):
I goodn see coach.
Speaker 12 (01:04:34):
Go Warriors dealing Griggs five and oh within Russell County Warriors.
We're at mos Barbecue. You listen to us, We'll come back.
We got more coaches to come.
Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
Hey.
Speaker 12 (01:04:42):
School Coaches show continues from Moles Barbecue, Bit Creek and Arbor.
They have two locations, one in downtown Autumn and one
right here, and we encourage you to come out. Their
menu everything you need from a grilled cheese and I
eat vegetables, but now I'm pudding, French fries, shrimp, catfish, redneck, Nacho's, barbecue, ribs, pork, chickens,
(01:05:07):
smoke smoke ribs, smoke turkey, smoked turkey, cat fish.
Speaker 5 (01:05:13):
I think you can get a salad. If you have
a salad.
Speaker 12 (01:05:17):
What's that chocolate stuff you like?
Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
The I don't get it, the Dismissippi mud.
Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
I don't get that.
Speaker 12 (01:05:23):
I love that banana pudding and I can eat it.
And I love their grilled cheeses, so does my son.
I love cheese that they used one don't don't smart.
He's been a essay to me. That's what he's doing
to eat. Yeah, because I have to eat a grilled cheese,
because he says I need to go up in the
adult sizes.
Speaker 5 (01:05:43):
He was asking somebody, say thank you, coach, be Turners,
coach Wilson to your shirts, I said, coach, He said,
really were that? I said, coach? They have a children?
Speaker 12 (01:05:53):
Say, he goes, do you have children? Say coach, I
look at my lies. They don't have my You look
in here.
Speaker 4 (01:05:58):
Thank you.
Speaker 12 (01:05:58):
I love you too, coach. Thank God has been good
to me. Let's talk football. Let's talk saying a Picelli
flast week. Oh no, I don't like that.
Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
Was this a team of Marietta that you played, coach?
Speaker 12 (01:06:08):
They were in uh Smyrna, Smirna, sterning, Yeah, all over
the world.
Speaker 8 (01:06:12):
Yeah, I learned.
Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
To Uh they were really good. We played great for
almost three quarters. I mean we got the ball down
four in the third quarter and uh end up throwing
an interception. They run it down close, punch it in
and kind of wilted after that. But uh penalties a
lot of flags.
Speaker 5 (01:06:36):
Sorry you are Yeah, I mean you turned the straw
over one just to help you out.
Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
We had twelve twelve penalties in the game. Most of
them were holding that stopped drives.
Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
You know, drive killers.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
Every time we gave it, we got.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
On the inside their thirty seemed like they started falling.
I don't know, just a coincidence and that way, Yeah,
that's but anyway, Uh, you know, we and and our
kids kind of gave in a little bit in the
fourth quarter when all that started happening, and uh, we
got to learn how to overcome that. And then part
of it's our fault ast coaches. We got to keep
our composure a little bit better when that starts happening,
(01:07:11):
because that bleeds.
Speaker 12 (01:07:12):
Over to it does I don't know how you acted,
but it does.
Speaker 24 (01:07:14):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Now we didn't go crazy, but I mean it matters
rushing and raising Kane and you know, the kids get
upset and then they're not. It just we got to
be better as coaches to deal with that.
Speaker 7 (01:07:26):
And that's on me.
Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
I got to set the example there. And it's hard
to admit it.
Speaker 12 (01:07:31):
Well, you know what, I'll say this, it's not so
much if you do it, but you can't have everybody
doing that's right, Does that make sense? You get six
people doing, then you've lost everybody. If the head coach
is doing Okay, he's the head coach, that's you know
what he does.
Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
I know.
Speaker 12 (01:07:43):
But when he said everybody lost their he can lose
it and get on the official Nobody else needs to
do that.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
Do you agree with that?
Speaker 12 (01:07:52):
I agree with that because he's the head coach.
Speaker 5 (01:07:55):
I understand, Yeah, but somebody else exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
I mean, we had five hundred and fifty yards of
offense and got b You know, that's that's tough.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
That is tough.
Speaker 12 (01:08:03):
So that's an enormous night. Good for you.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
With that our tailback he had over two hundred yards
rush show. Uh we threw for two forty I mean
we I'm telling you one hundred yards. We ran ninety
three play in the loss and what was the final
sixty three to twenty four?
Speaker 5 (01:08:20):
Wow, Look, coach, nobody can hear some cooking going on?
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
When it was twenty eight twenty four, I mean twenty
eight twenty four and we get the ball back.
Speaker 12 (01:08:29):
I felt really good in the third quarter and you
had a pick.
Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Late in the third quarters. We were down twenty eight
seventeen at half. We took the opening kickoff. Second half
went down and scored. H got a stop and we're
you know, we're going back the other way.
Speaker 12 (01:08:41):
And uh was it a pick six?
Speaker 4 (01:08:44):
No, No, that was the He ran it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:46):
Down to our twiny and you got to and then
they punched it in and then we we ended up
stalling out on the next drive on it to them.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
They score so and then then then our kids gave
you it was over.
Speaker 12 (01:08:58):
I've seen a game. Those games turn, I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
Yeah, it's it's I mean, the score doesn't look like it,
but that game turned on just a few janis.
Speaker 12 (01:09:06):
I don't mean that the wrong way.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
And we in our defense played in the early part
up until that point in the third quarter, played okay,
you know, but and they had a tailback. Now he
was really really good and he after after we kind
of wilted, he hit some big runs on us. You
know what I mean that he wasn't making those runs
in the first part of the game, and you know,
that's just how it is. We gotta be better, and uh,
(01:09:29):
that's on me. But you know, hey, we've played three
three really tough road games, and we got another one
this week.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
We go on the road to make it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:40):
And you've been to Atlanta, really Stone Mountain and.
Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
Now we're going to Locus thing. It's not Locus Fork.
Its Locus Grove, I think is what it's called. But
it's it's on the other side of Atlanta. Stone what's
on the eastern side Stone Stone Rock, Stone Rock, Chris.
Speaker 12 (01:09:57):
Stone Rock, Christian Strong Rock Strong Rock.
Speaker 5 (01:10:00):
Christian Strong Rock Christians between games in Atlanta right.
Speaker 7 (01:10:04):
Something I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
Look, I get on that bus and I just say, hey,
get us there. So you know it's and this is
this is our first region game. So it's a big one.
And and they're they're they're four and two or something
like that. And uh, they got beat last week by
Bullock Academy, who was the state champions last year, and so.
Speaker 1 (01:10:22):
They got a good team.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
Uh that they're a little bit less explosive when they're
gonna run the ball right at us.
Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
That hey throw back. I pulled out my old opal
likea stuff. They run the eye.
Speaker 12 (01:10:32):
How about that.
Speaker 4 (01:10:34):
Under center?
Speaker 7 (01:10:35):
I running in Yes, wow, huddling up the whole thing.
Speaker 15 (01:10:40):
That that is.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
Yeah, it's been a while running that clock too, So
you know we're running old.
Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
Coach McCracken on the understand, we running old fifty two
weeks with about.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
That, you know, running some of that.
Speaker 6 (01:10:52):
So, uh, what size are they at school?
Speaker 1 (01:10:54):
They're they're the same as Okay as for a uh,
it's our region.
Speaker 12 (01:10:59):
You said region.
Speaker 1 (01:10:59):
I want thinking and I'm gonna tell you what mark.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
The three schools we've been to on the road there,
their campuses are unreally believable. Looks like a college campus there.
I mean it is got a pretty nice one youself. No,
it's nothing like that like what I'm talking about. I mean,
like we go to uh when we went to uh
press FPD. Yeah, like their soccer complex. They've got a
(01:11:24):
big brick press box with a full soccer field, and
then on behind it they got a soccer practice field.
It looks like a football stadium itself. And then they
got the football stadium I mean, and then the school
itself at well, I mean that's just but the whole
that I just saw that part. But yeah, I know
the whole campus is, you know, different buildings and like
(01:11:47):
a college. And that's the same way it was at
Stratford and at Whitfield last week. So these these are
there's some schools over there. Boy, they got some they
getting I got.
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
Some money in those schools. They got some good players too.
Speaker 10 (01:12:00):
There you go.
Speaker 12 (01:12:01):
You had a good week.
Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
Oh, it's been a good week. It's been hot. It
has been it's been hot. But it's gonna cool off Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:12:06):
The cool night. Yeah, seventies is a high.
Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
Yeah, like.
Speaker 12 (01:12:11):
Eighty seventy eight eighty, it'll be eighty where he's at.
Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
It's gonna be a little more humid. Bout eighty percent
of the amenity Friday night.
Speaker 5 (01:12:18):
I think the I think the water will be gone
on the rain and.
Speaker 1 (01:12:20):
Yeah, I think it's They have turf. So that's good.
That Yeah, be a fact.
Speaker 12 (01:12:23):
Family doing good.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Everybody's good. Then, good to see you.
Speaker 12 (01:12:26):
Good luck, Hey, your rider and the Saint Anne Pacelli
are y'all the vikings. There you go, quick break, we'll
come back to Mose Barbecue.
Speaker 5 (01:12:35):
Hey, good afternoon. Welcome back to the high school Coaching Show. Jeff,
do you want Mitchell Jason Earl League. We have still
got vans strolling around here somewhere. Moose has left the bill,
So all the gaps seekers all.
Speaker 12 (01:12:47):
Yours game this week. You gotta get ready.
Speaker 5 (01:12:50):
Yeah, he's prepping for the game, the game, the game.
Speaker 12 (01:12:53):
How about the Blue Devils.
Speaker 5 (01:12:54):
Jeff oh Man, I tell you what they put it, well,
I don't want to say it like that. They they
won last week against Key and shut them out.
Speaker 12 (01:13:02):
They put a goose egg up. We got coach up
and coach where in the ouls? Fresh off that w
give me them. Let me let me see this Jim
fresh off the w which was forty five zero, and
that was their second win of the season. They beat
Barbara County forty two to six. They've had an open
week and lost to Maplesville forty eight zero. Gentlemen, good
to see y' all to night.
Speaker 4 (01:13:21):
How you doing.
Speaker 12 (01:13:22):
I'm good.
Speaker 5 (01:13:22):
How are y'all?
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
It's always good to have Anne. I'm doing pretty well.
Speaker 12 (01:13:25):
You know what, coach, it is your second of the career,
so that's to make you feel good.
Speaker 4 (01:13:31):
Yes, absolutely, home opener.
Speaker 12 (01:13:34):
You know what forgot it was your home open. That's
even better.
Speaker 10 (01:13:38):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
It was a sight to see, coach.
Speaker 5 (01:13:40):
You got four in the road at home. How about that? Yeah,
that's good.
Speaker 4 (01:13:44):
That's good.
Speaker 5 (01:13:44):
Last the road and they got piked this week by
the way. There you guys are one to two. You
beat them last year thirty five to six. But let's
talk about the Keith game first though, I got it bunker,
go ahead, Coach Keith, we're talking about the keys win.
Just talk about that one came out.
Speaker 4 (01:14:04):
We had a.
Speaker 26 (01:14:06):
Defense to stop their run game. They're real good discipline
team that runs the ball really really well. They average
almost about two hundred rushing yards and games, so they
do a real good job of running the football maintaining
the clock. And we came out with a great discipline
(01:14:26):
and a great sense of urgency to stop the run
and be explosive offensive, and we were able to capitalize
off of those things.
Speaker 4 (01:14:33):
They got some turnovers that I got.
Speaker 26 (01:14:36):
My seventh gradest free safety got his first interception in
his high school career. Quarterback played exceptionally well ten of
thirteen for two hundred and thirty yards and three touchdowns,
and also ran the ball nine times for eighty five
yards for another score.
Speaker 5 (01:14:52):
I would say you you played everybody, but everybody plays anywhere. Yeah,
I got you. You got the seventh grader.
Speaker 4 (01:14:59):
He started, Yeah, he starts. He started every game so far.
Speaker 5 (01:15:03):
Wow, you know you're the second coach that's been here
that just told us they had a seventh grader plays. Now,
I don't play the seventh grader, and that is a starter.
His brother is an eighth grader, is a starter, right,
but he plays so wow, mine is a starter. He's
a great kid too, like eleven eleven or twelve year
old playing barsity Phip. That's tough, coach, that's tough.
Speaker 4 (01:15:23):
Michael Daniels is a is an extension of kids for him.
Three point eight g P A great, great home base. Great,
you're gonna hear about him for many many years to come.
Speaker 5 (01:15:34):
Starts at home. Starts at home.
Speaker 26 (01:15:37):
Everybody come out of this game, okay, everybody? Yeah, everybody
became out healthy. We came out with all smiles. No really,
no no bad injuries, no bumps and bruises.
Speaker 4 (01:15:46):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:15:46):
We got Pike Live next coach, we got him at
home though. That's a that's the right part of I'm
sorry what actually we don't. Oh, okay, we're open this week.
There was some contract uh things that happened with the
Pike Live game and me and Coach Mo we actually
talked about it. A great great dude over there piped live.
Speaker 26 (01:16:09):
So we were going to take the game on but
due to us not having it uh scheduled as far
as contract wise, what was going on, and we decided
not to play it because we have a big official
Friday next week in Urbino.
Speaker 5 (01:16:27):
Yeah, all right, well you want to move on to Urbana.
I know if you got to open with he got
a bit you at least are looking at You know
a lot of coaches say during that open week they
work on themselves, they work on what they needed to.
Speaker 26 (01:16:37):
Now. I tried that before. I tried that before I
went in. I tried that against Maplesfield. That didn't go
so well.
Speaker 5 (01:16:43):
Okay, well you're working on Burbena already.
Speaker 4 (01:16:46):
Already go we dialed in Goes. We we know numbers,
we know addresses in the region.
Speaker 5 (01:16:55):
Yes, what's their lost?
Speaker 4 (01:17:00):
Uh No, I think it's a tog academy.
Speaker 5 (01:17:07):
Sitting here at two and two.
Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
Uh, it's either been real talk.
Speaker 5 (01:17:12):
Okay, we don't have to all right, I got you.
What do you got to do against him?
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
The same thing we did against Keith. They're a good teammate.
They run the ball.
Speaker 26 (01:17:21):
They're a little bit more disciplined than Keith is. Uh
they do they do some smash my football point, they're
not hiding it. Then what you say, Yeah, they got
a quarterback something I never seen before. They're they'll go
too tight with three up backs and hand the ball
or snopped the ball to the quarterback and run right.
(01:17:41):
Actually that's just a wildcare I don't know, now the wildcat.
You got some different kind of movement or something.
Speaker 5 (01:17:49):
That anybody they said, and here it comes. Yeah, this
is uh seen that all year.
Speaker 26 (01:17:54):
I've never seen it in all my years of football.
But I know one thing is efficient, and it's something
that I might put in the back of my head
because what what that what allows you to do is
how they line up and how they get set and
when they snap that ball to a good a good
running quarterback and they get good movement and they get
a good surge.
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
He's not getting touched.
Speaker 26 (01:18:16):
And we already they already down already on the football field.
Three yards are already down the field before. So it's
a it's a three yards in the cloud of dust,
but this is more like five because he's averaging almost
five six yars to pop off this off the plates.
Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
Well, I would ask you where Ravana is, but they
come in to you, so I don't care.
Speaker 4 (01:18:35):
Oh yeah, they come into the house. Baby homecoming for us.
Speaker 5 (01:18:37):
Yeahry Jason and I knew somewhere over that Child County
sprinkled the lord is Jamison towards me in Field County.
Speaker 6 (01:18:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:18:53):
Yeah, and then you got you up in the county.
You got yeah, there's a bunch of the Talker Academy.
Speaker 4 (01:19:00):
Yeah, yep, it's spready all right.
Speaker 12 (01:19:02):
Blue Devil's got Pike Liver rolls coming off a win
at home. In fact, you got two or three to
row it on.
Speaker 27 (01:19:08):
We need.
Speaker 7 (01:19:10):
That game.
Speaker 12 (01:19:10):
Oh so you moved it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 12 (01:19:14):
No, they they contract contractual agreement. Yeah, okay, it wasn't
It wasn't on It wasn't on your Yeah, okay, it
wasn't in your uh what you call it on your uh?
In your what's the cost thought?
Speaker 4 (01:19:27):
The stars?
Speaker 12 (01:19:27):

Speaker 4 (01:20:23):

Speaker 12 (01:20:24):
Okay, good? They all got a new one, sir.
Speaker 4 (01:20:28):
That the first time. It's the second time. The second time.
Speaker 6 (01:20:31):
That was so good, you said, yeah, sometimes good.
Speaker 12 (01:20:34):
We have a mix up in here, you know, I
mean something, get this something, get that. Anyways, good to
see you and your family to night coaching. So yeah,
all right, tough week last week Elmore County loss. I
hate to go negative when it's lost. I don't wanna go.
Just give me a little quick summary of the game.
Speaker 5 (01:20:47):
Coach.
Speaker 4 (01:20:48):
Well you know, well, I mean we started out.
Speaker 21 (01:20:53):
Let them drive up, drive the ball down the field
on us and score it. And then we we're moving
the ball right there and get a get a penalty,
holding penalty, and you know it's just and that's why
that's why we did seem like the first half we
were just we were first and first and.
Speaker 12 (01:21:11):
Twenty or get first in twenty in high school something.
Speaker 21 (01:21:14):
Like that the whole first half, and we we just
couldn't couldn't get over the hump right there.
Speaker 4 (01:21:18):
But you know it was.
Speaker 10 (01:21:22):
Late in the game.
Speaker 4 (01:21:23):
Is twenty six.
Speaker 21 (01:21:23):
You know, it's still a ball game, and we just
can't I can't seem to find the end zone, you know, Is.
Speaker 12 (01:21:28):
That's what it is, coach having trouble. Yeah, we were.
Speaker 21 (01:21:31):
Struggling and getting uh getting the ball down the field
and getting an n zone.
Speaker 18 (01:21:35):
You know, we can move the ball and then.
Speaker 21 (01:21:39):
Then we do something, you know, we get a holding
call or you know or something you know that uh,
you know, and it's just like you said, it's hard
to overcome at first and fifteen, the first and twenty.
Speaker 12 (01:21:50):
There ain't many high schools first and you know what
I mean many plays when you can do that to me,
you kind of changed up and said you went back
under center, kind of slowed things down a little bit.
If you've seen has that helped any It's.
Speaker 21 (01:21:59):
Helped a little bit we uh, we spread it out
again a little bit last Friday, you know when we
when we kind of got down, uh you know when
he got to sometimes you know, and uh and we
had guys open, you know, we had guys and he
and and made some made some good passes and uh
we missed some guys that were open, you know, and
but uh, you know there again we we we were
(01:22:20):
lying on the little young guy quarterback and actually we
had had another guy come in as senior Lane Wilson
came in and at quarterback later on in the game,
and then he threw some balls and threw some good balls,
and you know it it's just you know, it's just
too you know, some of them. And he and he
(01:22:42):
missed some passes too, you know, but perfect right, well,
you know, we we just gotta we got a critique
that offensively, we really got a critique.
Speaker 10 (01:22:51):
It down, you know, and that you know I say that.
Speaker 21 (01:22:55):
You know here we are in the middle season, you know,
but we still got to work it and and work
what we do.
Speaker 8 (01:23:01):
Uh.
Speaker 21 (01:23:01):
The other night, we was up under center, we had
some players that were there. We missed one or two
little key blocks here and theything like that we were
moving the ball on We moved the ball on them.
We just uh man, we'd get a yard run and
to get a get a holding penalty, you know. And
and we were you know we I mean and they
(01:23:21):
I mean they caught it right, you know, we were
holding these guys. But we gotta we gotta do a
better job coming off the ball instead of trying to
catch our blocks. You know, we gotta we gotta do
a better job firing off the ball. That way, you
know we won't have to hold as much.
Speaker 12 (01:23:36):
Well, a good thing about it. I'm looking here at
your schedule. Got three region games left, coach, so you
got a whole lot to play for. We don't mean
if you can get the get to get on the road,
win them three plus your game with Andalusian and then
Russell County.
Speaker 21 (01:23:49):
Right, you know there's a lot of football games, a
lot left, you know that left on the table. You
know we're gonna play a good one here Friday night.
Uh you know they well coached to Andalusia. You know
coach Taylor down there.
Speaker 12 (01:24:02):
I know he's a good man.
Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
I spent spent years at Strawn and.
Speaker 12 (01:24:10):
You know he's a you know what you're gonna get coach.
Speaker 21 (01:24:14):
Team right, They're not they're not gonna make any mistakes,
you know. And and they then they always have athletes,
you know, they always and they always have good size.
Speaker 4 (01:24:24):
And uh and we gotta go there, you know.
Speaker 21 (01:24:26):
So it's it's it's a long trip, but you know,
they have nice facilities, you know, and it's a it's
a good place to play.
Speaker 4 (01:24:33):
A football game.
Speaker 8 (01:24:33):
You know.
Speaker 21 (01:24:34):
I've been there before a couple of times. And then
when you know, like every game, we've got hopeful left,
you know, and hopeful they're.
Speaker 10 (01:24:41):
Gonna be.
Speaker 21 (01:24:44):
They're gonna be They're gonna be big and strong, and
and they got a pretty good ball club too. And
then Clay County and Valley, you know, they battle's got
a good ball club.
Speaker 4 (01:24:54):
And everybody knows.
Speaker 21 (01:24:55):
Clay Central's man, they're they're they're They're Clay County. That's
just they they are what they are, and they're always
a physical team. And and then they're gonna be well coached.
Speaker 4 (01:25:06):
Too, you know.
Speaker 21 (01:25:07):
So but there is that there's a lot of football
left on the table.
Speaker 5 (01:25:11):
They got they got a legend of Clay County.
Speaker 12 (01:25:13):
Oh, you're right, right, But I mean he's shown that
me like coach says, they got they got it in
front of him. If you how's your guys responded coach,
I know, I know, you got a game this week,
then you open two weeks, then you open. How's the
guys have been? Responded?
Speaker 21 (01:25:27):
You know that we we've been kind of kind of
up and down a little bit, you know, just the
aspects of typical you know, the way the way the
season is. But I kind of told him today, you know,
I said, look, I said, we've we've been in every
ball game, you know, and we had we we've been
in every one of them.
Speaker 5 (01:25:44):
Oh yeah, you have.
Speaker 21 (01:25:45):
I've checked goes, you know, and then uh, it's like
fourth quarter, we kind of kind of give it away
a little bit.
Speaker 15 (01:25:51):
Uh, but.
Speaker 21 (01:25:54):
You know, and that we got to learn to finish,
you know. And that's been a thing that I kind
of saw this summer. And now I was telling them
all something, we gotta we gotta learn to finish, you know,
and and uh, we can't let little bit of things
get the whole team down.
Speaker 10 (01:26:09):
And uh, you know, and then we got we got wet.
Speaker 21 (01:26:13):
We still got to buy in and what we're gonna do,
you know, and uh, and that's that's when any any
new coach, any new guy anywhere, you know, kids got
to buy in. And sometimes it takes a little while
for him to realize that that hey he you know,
these these new coaches or whatever, they they might know
a little bit what the me.
Speaker 12 (01:26:33):
Is it for him? And your first name is has
had a good Yeah, I've seen the state. He's had
some good games.
Speaker 4 (01:26:38):
He had some good game.
Speaker 12 (01:26:39):
Don't want to do I'm just throwing some good things out.
He's had good games.
Speaker 10 (01:26:42):
And he turned around and playing some linebacks.
Speaker 12 (01:26:45):
I saw that. I saw that playing both ways.
Speaker 10 (01:26:47):
So there you go.
Speaker 4 (01:26:49):
He's good.
Speaker 6 (01:26:49):
He's a good ball.
Speaker 12 (01:26:49):
Before we go, tell me about your jvs and your
middle school gave.
Speaker 21 (01:26:53):
JV is uh there for and one they finished our
season for one middle school they they man, they got
some they got some little talent coming up, you know.
And uh, but uh you that little JV group, man,
the uh they got a tough little group. And uh
that ninth and tenth grade together, them two classes together,
(01:27:16):
they kind of just about all.
Speaker 10 (01:27:18):
Bought in already, you know.
Speaker 21 (01:27:20):
And then you gotta have and uh, you know that
junior single class they got talent. Man, if they just
if they if they learned to play together and do
what they talked to do, man, they could mess together,
and you know, and and we could finish season out
fairly strong.
Speaker 12 (01:27:34):
You got five games left, got Shannon Moley, head coaching
the bore Guard Hornets, Rip Mose Barbecue High school coaches said,
we've got a few more coaches to go. Stay tuned, press.
Speaker 5 (01:27:45):
The next up is the Hat High School's won Williams.
Good afternoon, coach, How.
Speaker 12 (01:27:48):
Were you im good in you? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:27:49):
All right, see last week coach, you had Lenette, you
had a little disruption, but yeah, we'll talk about it briefly.
You lost that game thirty sixth or nothing. Talk about
that from briefly and we'll move on to the red
level who only played one time.
Speaker 27 (01:28:01):
Yeah, well, you know, got it to a slow start
against Lenet, which Lynette is a really good team. Just
had some misques and they converted on it. You know,
they seen some players we didn't have that's on a
little injury reserve, and they.
Speaker 5 (01:28:19):
Kind of took advantage of it.
Speaker 27 (01:28:20):
And we knew that they're a good coach, so we
knew they were gonna find ways to see the things
we were missing, and and you know, it went from there,
so you know, kudos to them, and our young guys
are getting better. You know, we get our quarterback back
ready this week, and so we feel very good about
our chances.
Speaker 5 (01:28:41):
All right, coach, let's see you're you're two and three?
Are you always three in the region? But you got
a lot of Reagian games?
Speaker 4 (01:28:49):
Yeah, we do this week.
Speaker 5 (01:28:51):
He got Red Level. Last year you beat them fifty
six to eight. Yes, one of my score here is that?
Speaker 15 (01:28:57):
Is that correct?
Speaker 6 (01:28:58):
Yes, sir?
Speaker 5 (01:28:58):
All right, that's about Red Level coach. You know, I
know where it's at, know much about him. Don't hear
about him much. Hear about Georgia and he hear about
Brandley schools down that way. But yeah, Level is not
the one out here.
Speaker 27 (01:29:10):
Yeah, they're down there in the middle of all that between.
I guess mcken's and don all down through there played
them last year down there. You know, we just did
a home and home situation. And you know this year
they coming up here, got a good quarterback, good running back.
(01:29:31):
We're gonna be in for a test. We're gonna have
to play our best game. So you know, we think
we've had a pretty good practice last two or three days. Uh,
these Coach has done a great job of getting these
guys prepared and trying to get us back on that
winning way.
Speaker 5 (01:29:43):
All right, coach Hi health wise, your team, when we
when we're healthy, healthy, is we're getting there. It's all
hands on back. I guess everybody's got small schools, that's
what it is. Yeah, you washed your size again, kes
thirty one, thirty one? How many of them play? I
mean y'all playing a game nineteen nineteen.
Speaker 4 (01:30:07):
Seems like by nineteen no more than twenty, you know, so.
Speaker 5 (01:30:10):
Yeah, got something going both ways, that's what you mean.
That's a smaller schools you you have to do that.
I've seen big schools do it. Coach, Yeah, I've seen seven.
Speaker 25 (01:30:20):
Yeah, but you know it's it's, you know, member first
time being in a small time, small class A football.
Speaker 4 (01:30:29):
It's it's totally different than what I ever thought.
Speaker 25 (01:30:32):
Yeah, and not necessarily the game itself, but it's the preparation,
like you really can't go eleven on eleven, you know,
everything gotta be if you wanted to go good on good,
you gotta go half line.
Speaker 4 (01:30:45):
That that kind of deal, and then.
Speaker 25 (01:30:49):
The adjustments of different because you're trying to talk to
someone on game day, but they listening to the offensive
calls they you know, on something they messed up on defense,
and you might get them, you might not. They might
not be listening, you know, because they trying to hear
the whole call or whatever the case may be.
Speaker 4 (01:31:05):
And then also with.
Speaker 25 (01:31:07):
Them, then like nineteen players, you're asking kids to do
twice as much with half of the time to get
prepared to do right.
Speaker 5 (01:31:19):
Those those two way players got to learn the offense.
Speaker 4 (01:31:24):
But you ain't concentrating on offense.
Speaker 8 (01:31:26):
You're just doing it.
Speaker 4 (01:31:27):
And it's totally different, you know, especially when you see
it every day every day, you know, and it's totally different,
and you have to be in great shape. So but
it's a challenge, you know.
Speaker 25 (01:31:40):
But it's a challenge that we all up for and
I'm looking forward to it, and I think we're gonna
come out and we just got to play good football
starting to Friday. But I don't think we can worry
about the game. We just got to put a good
drive together, a good quarter together, and then once we
do that and let it you know, bill from there
(01:32:01):
and just see what happens.
Speaker 5 (01:32:02):
You get the get the first first down, Yeah, yeah,
get the first three an hour.
Speaker 4 (01:32:06):
Yeah, uh huh, all that get the don't let's score
or you know, force a punt, give a big fourth down. Stuff,
just small things.
Speaker 5 (01:32:15):
Y'all been in the red room, coach Coach Williams. Have
y'all been in the red room?
Speaker 18 (01:32:22):
We've been good.
Speaker 27 (01:32:23):
When we can get there, we just gotta we gotta
put drives together and understand down in distance. A lot
of our guys and I gotta understand down in distance
what we're trying to get out of it.
Speaker 5 (01:32:34):
So that's one of the biggest things.
Speaker 12 (01:32:36):
Learn a little bit about football, turning down in distance.
Speaker 27 (01:32:40):
You know, if we need five, you don't have to
get twelve. Just get those five right now and we'll
call it back again.
Speaker 12 (01:32:46):
Yeah, if you need for get forward, don't work. Yeah,
let's yeah, let's just let's let's take it a little bit.
Speaker 27 (01:32:54):
Yeah, as my guy next stair say, just do your job.
Speaker 1 (01:32:57):
Yeah, we got a lot of time.
Speaker 7 (01:32:58):
We got a lot of people.
Speaker 18 (01:32:59):
Don't do it.
Speaker 5 (01:33:00):
Too many jobs.
Speaker 12 (01:33:00):
I was, I was lady. And if you have your
kids responding from what happened Friday night, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:33:05):
Good, good?
Speaker 12 (01:33:06):
Did y'all cover that? I didn't know?
Speaker 4 (01:33:08):
No, we just thought there's an.
Speaker 12 (01:33:10):
I just want to know how they were because it
was tragic or chaotic scene. I was told from in
the stadium, not missed anybody. Your guys, y'are in the
locker room. I talked to Coach McDonald. Everybody. Great jobs
of the police department, first responders always do it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:22):
Wonderful job of.
Speaker 12 (01:33:22):
Your staff, administration people, same thing for a little fast.
But have they your kids, Okay.
Speaker 27 (01:33:28):
Sir, Yes, sir, they you know, they weren't a part
of none of it, so you know we.
Speaker 12 (01:33:32):
Were well I know that, but you know, just still nerves.
I was nervous to know, like when I'm trying to
get a hold of you, so you know, but uh, those.
Speaker 27 (01:33:41):
Our police administration, everybody done a great job. My hat's
off to everybody.
Speaker 12 (01:33:47):
There, and you hate to have to do that, but
I mean it had to be done.
Speaker 27 (01:33:50):
Hats off to everybody who was a part of that
and and done it swiftly.
Speaker 10 (01:33:53):
Good.
Speaker 27 (01:33:55):
Just an unfortunate situation, but uh, we're still the fed
and we're strong right now now and we're during our
homecoming weekend.
Speaker 10 (01:34:02):
It's good.
Speaker 27 (01:34:03):
It's a beautiful thing right now.
Speaker 12 (01:34:04):
What's going on and you can't playing for what happened
last week. You know what I mean. You got to
use your good sensors.
Speaker 25 (01:34:09):
Right, that's what you gotta do. You know, Like I said,
you don't want to plan for it. You can't playing
for you don't want you never you don't want that
to happen. But if it does, I think we did
a great job. That's one thing we did. We kept
everything calm.
Speaker 12 (01:34:24):
Everything was calm, you know with your players.
Speaker 25 (01:34:28):
Yes, you got to be calm in the midst of
a store, that's right, you know. And so I think
that started it off. You know, good job by the
administrators and you got fans and first respond to everyone
and then from that point, once they secured the area
what have you, then they made a decision about the
game what have you.
Speaker 12 (01:34:47):
But hats off the dream coach Well said, Well said,
I agree, and I'm gonna give you all credit to
now y'all y'all them players were looking at you guys,
so you know, if y'all were scared, they didn't know it.
So anyway, thanks for talking about it. I appreciate y'all
being here. Go Bulldogs, thank you you'll we goanna take
a break, come back?
Speaker 4 (01:35:05):

Speaker 12 (01:35:06):

Prep is in the house. Coach, how are you, coach Argie,
how are you doing?
Speaker 4 (01:35:57):

Speaker 10 (01:35:57):
How you doing?
Speaker 4 (01:35:58):
We're good? Nonna bless tonight and then less to be
here tonight.
Speaker 12 (01:36:01):
Yeah, man, you got your arm all boxed up over
there and sling the bonic. Man, are you all right, coach?
Speaker 28 (01:36:07):
I'm good, I'm good. This is just the old previous
chapter of my life when I was in the military. Okay,
so you're getting it well, yes, sir, all right, introduce.
I know we got a quarterback and you got one
overs that been here yet we got to my far left.
I got Jackson Weston here tonight y linebacker tight end
of a slot A lot last week, first first game
of the season, had sixteen.
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
Tackles on linebacker.
Speaker 28 (01:36:29):
Wow, hey you Jackson and a reception, and then last
week he had two touchdowns for one hundred and eighty
seven yards.
Speaker 12 (01:36:34):
There you go. Did you play both ways?
Speaker 5 (01:36:36):
Yes, sir, I did.
Speaker 4 (01:36:37):
What do you like this?
Speaker 7 (01:36:39):
I like both positions.
Speaker 21 (01:36:41):
I guess it just depends for running that night, you know,
for running the ball or passing the ball.
Speaker 12 (01:36:46):
A lot of offense, but if it's a lot of.
Speaker 19 (01:36:50):
If they like running the ball on the opposite team,
I love playing defense, you know.
Speaker 12 (01:36:54):
So whatever you need to do, you're gonna do it.
Oh yeah, okay, all right, coach, you had a tough
loss last week forty eight twelve. Just a little bit
of that and then we'll move forward to this week.
Speaker 28 (01:37:04):
You know, we we came into the into the game
well prepared, well coached, but the other team was also
well prepared and well coached. We opened off four plays
right down the thing. We drove down and threw a
touchdown in Jackson Weston, Braiden Pace, my quarterback here, Braidon
Pace through a touchdown Jackson Weston, and then they came back,
they scored, and we kind of went back and forth
(01:37:24):
that way, and uh, you know, the the numbers it's
been it's been a numbers game for us this season.
As we adjusted coaching staffs and adjusted uh the scheme,
we uh you know, we we we fell into that
numbers game right now.
Speaker 12 (01:37:43):
Yeah, all right, so we're gonna move forward. We got
Heritage Christian Friday night. Tell me about Herrod and Heritage Christian.
Speaker 28 (01:37:49):
You know, we've been watching the tape on you young
team well team uh well coached though, right, and they
look like they've been prepared. They've been going through the
same Gauntlin we've been going through. So uh, I think
it'll be it'll be a good game. We just got
to make sure that our our our folks are ready
to read the run when it comes out, and our
corners are ready to cover.
Speaker 12 (01:38:10):
All right, we got a quarterback back. How you doing tonight?
Speaker 8 (01:38:12):
I'm doing good.
Speaker 12 (01:38:14):
Good. Tell me about what you're thinking about this week
playing Heritage.
Speaker 15 (01:38:17):
Christian Well, sir, I think it's gonna be like every
other week. Is gonna be fun, you know, sir, be ready.
You know we're gonna fight hard.
Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
There's not a lot of us, but you know that's
not a reason for us.
Speaker 12 (01:38:25):
Yeah, he had a good week last week, didn't he
your team? What do you think you guys got to
get better at overall?
Speaker 15 (01:38:31):
You know, are blocking could be better. We got a
bunch of young linement. We're all freshmen.
Speaker 12 (01:38:36):
Yeah you're freshman too, aren't you? Sophomore? Sophomore? Sorry about that,
you're freshman? Yeah, okay, go ahead. So you got a
lot of young ones.
Speaker 15 (01:38:43):
Yes, so we got a a lot of young ones.
Speaker 19 (01:38:45):
I mean it's it's hard for them, I know, because
they're going to get a bunch of older but sure
like more stronger uh D line. But you know they
still fight hard. They give they give me a good
enough time.
Speaker 12 (01:38:56):
To Good for you, for you, good for you. You
can be a little intimidating, I'm sure, And what's your numbers?
Speaker 28 (01:39:02):
Like, coach, I know right now we're at a fourteen
plan and sixteen sixteen on the roster, you know. But
it's like I told the coaching staff the first day
we kind of sat down and started the structure. I said, Hey,
sometimes we want to coach a team that we want, right,
but we've got to actually coach a team that we have. Yeah, right,
So we had to adjust our scheme, right, Sometimes we
(01:39:23):
have to adapt, right as offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators, coaches,
special teams coordinators, we've got to adapt our scheme to
the in life.
Speaker 12 (01:39:32):
Yes, sir, that's a great comment. Coach, that's good call.
You ain't got enough, but you got know you have
enough to play, maybe not what you want, but take
what you got And are you playing them all both ways?
It's eight play both.
Speaker 28 (01:39:43):
Sides, yes, sir. Most of most of our players are
playing both sides. Probably the only one that doesn't play
one hundred percent both sides right now is yeah, our quarterback. Yeah,
but he's still he's still part of the defensive scheme there, right,
h But a lot of them are playing both ways.
So we've got to understand how to manage that clock
and how to manage that time for them. I can
(01:40:04):
imagine myself and and my offensive coordinator back there.
Speaker 4 (01:40:07):
You know, we'll run the ball and get on the
line fast.
Speaker 12 (01:40:10):
And fast, trying to keep it fast even.
Speaker 4 (01:40:13):
Well, that's where we come from, right, But we had
to adjust that.
Speaker 12 (01:40:17):
Yeah, you've always been a run run, yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (01:40:19):
Say hey, let's let's slow it down a little bit.
Speaker 12 (01:40:21):
Bet that has been not much, not much much, but
you think it helps. So when you slow it down,
it gives them a little bit of breath.
Speaker 28 (01:40:27):
Yes, it gives that that adapting, adapting and one of
that mental breather.
Speaker 4 (01:40:31):
Really, what am I doing next?
Speaker 12 (01:40:33):
You playing full scrimmage? You have to go half line,
you sir, and then y'all go out there with you
with your arms sling. I don't mean that I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:40:41):
Get in there. I get in there.
Speaker 12 (01:40:42):
About that.
Speaker 10 (01:40:43):
I get in there.
Speaker 28 (01:40:43):
Coaches get in there. Luckily, the whole staff gets in there.
Sometimes we the president even comes out out. So so
we've got we've got a strong foundation for supporting us
and helping us through the process.
Speaker 12 (01:40:56):
Don't quit. I love it. I love the way you
are doing it. Southern Prayer. They may not have many
players were there. They're rolling big game this week. Heritage
Christian on the road too.
Speaker 5 (01:41:05):
I hate that for you, but everybody's going out of
here with the region wins.
Speaker 4 (01:41:08):
That's right.
Speaker 12 (01:41:08):
Maybe it's you guys, guys, good to see you, Nice
to meet you. Keep up the good work, all right,
keep playing hard, coach, you take care, thanks for being here.
Speaker 5 (01:41:15):
Good luck.
Speaker 4 (01:41:15):
I have a blessed Thank you.
Speaker 12 (01:41:16):
Too, Southern Prep.
Speaker 6 (01:41:17):
That's gonna do it.
Speaker 12 (01:41:18):
