(00:45):
and therapists, and we appreciate what the Orthopedic Clinic and
of course Moe's Barbecue. They're feeding everybody seven days a week,
and of course we encourage you to come by as well.
They've gotten something for everybody. Moe's Barbecue still.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Thirty eight twenty one last week against Lynette. This week
you'll be at home again against David.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yes, sir, we played tomorrow night. We got we moved
a game up to tomorrow night and we're kick off
as it sits tomorrow night, not seven. Uh so we
want to make sure we got that after everybody. But yeah,
we're looking forward to it. We know we had had
a big game last week.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah, let's talk, let's talk. Let's let's talk about that one.
I said, you know, it's been a little while since
you'd played Lynette, Right.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
It's been a little while since.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
We played twelve something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
And we've never bet Lynette really, no, not in football.
We've never bet Lenet in football.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Congratulations coach.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
It was a big game. It was a big game
for the coaches, It was a big game for our players.
In the community. We had a pat house. My wife
came and she, you know, she's come to all of them.
She said that the family couldn't sit together because they
couldn't find seats together, and so you know, that's that
was when she told me that. I was like, okay
with it. A lot of folks was there and they
(01:56):
had a good night, you know, beaut the community. They
had a good night Friday night.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
How did they traveled real well, because not very far.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Actually they we had we thought they were gonna be
they were gonna bring more than they did, but unfortunately
they didn't bring quite as many as we were told
they were gonna bring. But you know, we're all, like
I said, it was a good game. The uh uh
great atmosphere.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Man.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
We just we started all strong, excuse me, and we
finished past and it was just it was a good
night for the football team overall overall.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Coach course, and they usually loaded with athletes.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
The defensive still are okay, but you held them to
twenty one.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
Yeah, you outscored them. Yeah. Our defensive line got after it.
They did it all night too, So I mean, we
we've propped them guys up, you know, started this week.
Speaker 7 (02:48):
But they played hard.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
You know, our front seven played extremely hard and again
our secondary gets us back in the huddle every time.
So super proud of the way we played and got
after it. And they understood what was you know, up
on the line and playing a you know, I guess
some people caught it a rivalry game, but you know
it's that close and they know people on the other
side of the ball. So they played hard and we're
(03:12):
super proud of them. And now we look forward to Davill.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
All right, how you got Davi come to town? Dave's
going too. They've had a tough time Elmore County. Good team,
good team Handley, good beat up a bunch of folks. Yeah,
I mean it's not like they lost.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
To they played quality, quality upon absolutely.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
What do we got to do to handle Dable this week?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Got to keep playing like we're playing on offense and
defense and just we've got to just keep the grind,
keep going. You know, you're two and oh, but you
haven't done anything in the areas. It's a it's a
region game, and so if we want to go to playoffs,
we you know, it's a game that we need to
win besides the fact it's just the next game. So
we just got to keep on doing what we've been doing.
(03:53):
We've we've had a good week of practice, you know,
no hangover from last Friday night, which is good. But
we just got to keep on keeping on and then
we do that, and it's the biggest thing for us
is if we stay healthy on both sides of the all,
you know, we have our chances to be pretty decent
when for the seasons over.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yes, this is this a discussion you have with your
team saying, hey, look these first two games that they
really they mean something.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
They all mean something. You want to win them all.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
But once you get into area play or region that's
the that's the part that matters the most.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
We didn't say anything until Monday, you know, we just
you know, we brought it up Monday. Okay, hey, we
haven't done anything. They were too and oh that's you know,
hot dog and all that you have done something.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Coach, excuse me for rupty. You are undefeated, but go ahead,
I know what you mean.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
But uh, I mean, uh, these games are the ones
that you've got to win, that you want to win
if you want to continue playing in November and December,
and so we're excited about it, you know, being at
home and everything, but.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
You know, it's the next game. You got it.
Speaker 8 (04:57):
What you got to do?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Yeah, how are they defense?
Speaker 5 (05:00):
We go?
Speaker 4 (05:02):
They're you know, they're they're pretty good.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
They running three four and uh they've run a lot
of uh of what appears to me a lot of
uh what we call it red coverage, which is man free.
They like to bring those linebackers inside. Linebackers in uh
just about every play, you know, one of them is
going to you know, be running through the gap or
our c gap. And and so we're you know, we're prepared.
(05:27):
I feel comfortable you know from my office standpoint with
the line. We've been playing with the office line everything.
So you know, we just gotta be ready to go
one day earlier. That's that's another thing, mantally, you got
to get yourself one day earlier, all.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Right, coach Corson defensive coordinator. They scored seven in the
first game twenty one, but they kind of got routed.
And like we said early in the show, really two
quality teams that yeah played are they are? We're looking
at something maybe, I mean, is this gonna be a
it's gonna be a tough team to stop.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
Well, I mean, I never want to go into it
thinking we're just going to dominate somebody. You know, they
got a quarterback, he wants to move around, he can
throw the ball. They're just a different team than what
we've seen traditionally from Davill The past few years. You know,
when Roger was there, it was I formation or power eye,
and they're just trying to run it down your throat.
And now you know they want to line up in
a two by two set or go trips and you know,
(06:20):
running inside zone a mid zoner, you know, so I
guess it's uh, they want to spread us out and
use speed. But I mean, again, we're a pretty fast team,
so we like the way that that kind of plays
into our favor to you know, our defense is built
around speed. So you know, again, the same thing that
we did last Friday. Let's go in there and stop
(06:41):
the run and make them one dimensional and see what happens.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
I helped rise.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Coach.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
I think we got. I think we're good. We got
we even't got a kid back, so I think we're
pretty good.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
So you got everybody coming that plus one.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
Yeah, knock on wood.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
All right, Well, hey you're hosting David this weekend. Well
tomorrow tomorrow, good luck, coach, thank you. I appreciate it,
hop appreciate play well and everybody say safe and you
got to worry about it a little well, I don't know,
you know, you're supposed to be after the game, to
them it'll rain after the game, after they get home
and get in bed, and.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
I don't care if it pours.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Dan Ring Lows we get a.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
W congratulations on a to a no start. I know
I got here to the interview late, but I'm proud
of y'all. Good job carrying on Friday night. We'll try
to have more night Thursday night. I knew that happens,
say Friday night. All right, Cats, appreciate your Bobcats at
the High School Coaching Show from Moe's Barbecue here at
Ben Creek in Auburn. Our shows brought to you by

miss good? Good to see you. Good to see it's
(08:23):
your first time on the radio in it. Yes, sir,
would you say you had a face for radio or
face for TV?
Speaker 9 (08:27):
Now you got face for TV voice for radio.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Girls. That that's what I'm talking a b O U T.
Nobody loves you more than who though.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Mom me into that.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Now. I hear you a goot that you can give
your mama shout.
Speaker 10 (08:39):
Out right now, ty you, I love you.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
There you go. Mom loves you back. I can hear yell.
That's right now, all right, Omar's good to see you.
A good running back, buddy. I've watched you play for
a couple of years now and you're doing really well.
You're gonna sit out tomorrow Friday night. You're gonna set
with this at this one out.
Speaker 8 (08:55):
Now, you know.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Coach good win last week, Yes, sir, great best day
of you. Let's talk about that and then we'll come
back and okay with them.
Speaker 9 (09:03):
Great win last week, you know on what I had,
I think twenty four carries, one hundred and fifty five
yards and three touchdowns. Jackson Kilgore had over three hundred
fifty yards of total offense. He was very efficient Friday night.
I think he was twenty three for twenty eight or
something like that. Something crazy. He's he's completing seventy nine
percent of his balls right now, you know, So that's
(09:25):
that's pretty efficient.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Is there anybody in the is anybody in the state completing.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
That kind of I don't know if they are.
Speaker 9 (09:31):
They're really good. He's had a great year he had.
He also rushed for over one hundred yards last week.
You know, so, uh, Peyton Pott had a really good game.
He had over one hundred and fifty yards total yards
last week. You know, we we we played really good
last week, especially in the second half. We came out
in the second half and and really our offensive line
(09:51):
looked really good. The defense, defense didn't give up anything
second half. You know, so really impressed with the way
we played the second half last night.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
This thing about something this you know young man from
over the Key kid hadn't missed many passes thrown twenty
he's probably hasn't thrown as many, but I bet he's
like ten for twelve, Yeah, ten for twelve and eight.
I bet he hadn't. I bet he's. Kobe's a good player. Yeah,
he's over there with us.
Speaker 9 (10:16):
You know that's right for eighth grader and then he ye,
then he went the door and as an night grader, and.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I just thought about looking at his stats, he's very
high percentage. Yeah, but anyway, not you were just too
much a quarterback. He's played good. Absolutely, that young man
right there played good. Oh yeah, I was there.
Speaker 9 (10:33):
Oh yeah, he's he's played. He hasn't played much. He
played a couple of drives, second half played, he played.
I think he played a half the first game. So
he's he's sitting with you know, he's right at We
got three hundred something yards right now and seven touchdowns
in two games.
Speaker 10 (10:51):
So what I'm on, I'm right about it.
Speaker 11 (10:53):
I think I like eight touchdowns, eight touch seven so
that I think to eight and maybe too many.
Speaker 9 (10:58):
So he's had a really, really good start to the season.
You know, we want to keep him fresh for or
later on down the line, you know, for these games
right here, the region games. You know OPLA like got
Enterprise coming up. You know, this is a big one
this week. Y'all know that.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Ninety nine times that's the ninety ninth time up like
an Aubus and it's crazy, it's so close. Forty eight,
forty eight, forty forty seven and three. Did you know that? Onmore?
Speaker 5 (11:24):
I did?
Speaker 1 (11:24):
And it was one forty eight? Reckon, we won forty
eight like it's one forty seven and you've had three ties.
Now about that.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Forty league coaches did y'all was behind when you got.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Here, you were, oh, yeah, you want you've made that
three straight wins? You put them over the top. Yeah,
I got good players, were street wins. You predicted it
all right, said one more time. I'm just kidding on more.
You kidding so, but go ahead, coach, Yeah yeah, great
job again.
Speaker 9 (11:51):
I've had some great kids, man, and this it has
been a blessing to coach these guys.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
It's a great group this year.
Speaker 9 (11:57):
You know, they they buy in. They they worked tremendously
hard at practice every single day.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
And you know, and I'm surrounded by some.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
Great coaches to coach.
Speaker 9 (12:06):
Ghouls be on the defensive side, coach wagoning on the
offensive side, you know, and all those guys that that
just they get in there and they they're you know,
we I think our kids and our coaches truly live
up to that motto blue collar mentality. They get in
there and they work. So it's really really fun, really
fun to coach with. With the coaches I coach with
and coach the kids that I coach. You know, you
(12:29):
got guys like Omar.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
They make it.
Speaker 9 (12:30):
Easy, make it easy to coach well. And not only
not only as student athletes. You know, they like take
Omar friends. Omar is a four horn ohs too. You know,
I was two mpe big man. So we've got a
lot of those guys. They're great in the classroom too.
(12:51):
It makes it It makes it easy. I mean we
we check from the sideline, everything from the sideline, and
it's you know, our guys. Our guys picked up really fast,
so makes it easy to coach.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I was going to ask some well, you know what
we is? Even my five year old grandson he said
we were his bulldof.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
We we two bullet all graduates though we love Miss
Ethrids to Ochester is trying to take care of her
running back over here. What were you about to say?
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Just the I mean, I mean everybody everybody in the games,
the kids, even the little kids. Yeah, they're in there.
They're probably in there an stuff and they're in op
like and stuff here.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
And oh there's little kids.
Speaker 9 (13:33):
I guarantee you a little little second third grader's got
on one maps in Jersey.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
So, I mean, that's the way it is, this game, Coach,
what it's about. You've been in three up and down
and up, and then it's atmosphere and.
Speaker 9 (13:49):
It's one of the best atmospheres. I want you to say,
I've ever been around here.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
There you hear that five state champions and he's just
said that.
Speaker 9 (13:56):
It's a big time playoff atmosphere every time you play
in this game, because of the crowd, because of the
the you know just what it means to both communities
and things, you know, and the and the good thing
is when it's over, it's over, you.
Speaker 12 (14:09):
Know, don't you know?
Speaker 9 (14:11):
The kids still get along, They still and they automatical.
As soon as it's over it they start talking about
next year or we'll see y'all in the playoffs or
you know so.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
And that's what it's about. Well, it's a it's been
an incredible rival your rivalry. You're right, coach, it's been
uh and you've been and you told me when you
love I told you the first time you were going
to Boodog Stadium and you called me and said, man,
what you and your wife for talking about an atmosphere?
And it's something else. Now it'll get to you as
a player. What do you think about that? When you
come out and you see that stadium like that?
Speaker 10 (14:42):
I get real hype. That's that's all I can say.
I get real hype.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Do you notice it once the game starts?
Speaker 10 (14:47):
I kind of tune it out, kind of just tune
the crowd out. Just focus on the game, focus on
the team.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Do you ever hear the crowd good? Win or lose?
I mean winning or losing? All bad or good?
Speaker 10 (14:58):
Only way we're doing good?
Speaker 4 (14:59):
That's when I here.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Do you do you feed off of it? If you
don't hear it, I guess you can't. Can you just
kind of stay focused?
Speaker 10 (15:04):
I just try to stay focused on the game.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
What's this game like when you're playing against Plucks? Any different?
Speaker 10 (15:11):
Just another game?
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Is it?
Speaker 10 (15:13):
It's another game? Another win? That's what we try to
do every week.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Is that the way both teams usually get out there
and once the game gets started, you just kind of
play it ges there there you go. Anything you'd like
to say about it, getting ready for it, playing the game.
What do you think about o'plucker's team, what you've seen.
Speaker 10 (15:29):
They got a real good team. And so we just
got to come out there and just got to be.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
On our a game.
Speaker 10 (15:33):
Everybody, the wire, seiars, old line, defense, everybody got to
be on that game.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I see why you got a four point Oh that's right,
young man. You coach special teams. You got one kicking
at all University that was Cats. Congratulates to him. I
know it's I hate the young man's hurt, but proud
for Towns. I sat there and watched him kick that
sixt yarder against at one ups for you messing with
coach being at at enterprise. Phenomenal young man, But talk
about your special teams going in the morning, can come
(16:00):
down till Friday night.
Speaker 9 (16:01):
Absolutely, And we got we got another kicker who's really good.
He's good at from fifty end. I think that Joe's
really good. He's also doing some of our punt and stuff,
you know, so he's done a really good job there.
You know, we've got some you know, we've got some
guys who were flying down on kickoff coverage. You know,
we gave up kickoff return last week. That was one
(16:22):
of their scores. So we've we've sort of secured that
up and hopefully we got that fixed. And uh, you know,
I think special teams especial teams plays a big part
in this game. I think a couple of years ago,
my first year over to Opa Laika, you know when
we played over there that my first year, up like
a block of field goals right there before you know,
(16:45):
before half or right after half or whatever, and it
sort of got us, got them the ball back and
they end up scoring right before half and we were
up I think fourteen, and they got right back in
the game and it was or maybe they even went
up ten to seven or something like that, but it
was all those games have been close, even last year. Yeah,
(17:06):
oh that was the last thirty one score and we
scored thirty one.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
We scored with thirty one seconds. Yeah, I didn't realize that.
I forgot about that.
Speaker 9 (17:14):
But it was, you know, great football game. This one
right here, had a big game in that game. Had
close to two hundred in that game, so you know,
totally yards. You know, he caught some passes, made some
great runs in that game. So you know, it's the
atmosphere and it's gonna be a great game Friday night.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
So that oh mare, nice to see. Good to see
you too, Good luck Friday. Okay, hey, all right, keep
that full point o up. Okay, yes, sir, all right,
Coach Thatcher. I love you, buddy. You appreciate your family,

Good to be here.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Yeah, it's good to see you today. I appreciate you.
Remember my name, coach Jones got to win last week
in grats ninety nine yards one play right four six?
Speaker 13 (20:50):
They played?
Speaker 4 (20:50):
What happened?
Speaker 5 (20:51):
I look, I just coached.
Speaker 15 (20:53):
You didn't look what happened, coach, We just uh a
little little fake screen, so threw Cuve Jones, Tatan Johnson.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
Made a move and he was out of there.
Speaker 13 (21:05):
Uh that would be me.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
Yeah, but I'm not gonna.
Speaker 15 (21:08):
Accept any of the responsibility for the rest of that.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
But I want to take responsibility for that one.
Speaker 13 (21:14):
You called it.
Speaker 15 (21:14):
And it's like I told the team today, I said,
as long as we score one more point than our opponent.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
We've done our job. So we did. We did all right,
good job. I was cut playing coach.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
He's doing well, doing well.
Speaker 16 (21:26):
Uh again, we're really young.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Everybody's young in high school.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
He's just.
Speaker 15 (21:32):
Everybody say underclass and it's not even like you know,
sometimes it's age young, but it's just football, like being
on the.
Speaker 13 (21:38):
Field being that, you know what I mean.
Speaker 15 (21:40):
So like uh, just missing So you know, he's just
a little bit of growing pains.
Speaker 8 (21:45):
But we're gonna be all right, gonna be good.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
I'm glad you could talk about it. Go ahead, coach,
that's what you talked about the rest of the team,
all right.
Speaker 14 (21:52):
I thought, I mean, our kids played hard. I thought
the way they responded two weeks in a row, so
you know, we started the game. We kick off, they
run openly, kick off back.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Who's in charge? Specially no go ahead?
Speaker 14 (22:05):
And then then they kick off to us. We run
it back to like the fifteen yard line. We have
one offensive play and then the lightning the fire. The
lightning starts, and then there's a ninety minute an hour
and a half the late after you had I.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
Mean, we ain't played a minute the ball, and then
we then we.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Were down seven to nothing and got it at their
fifteen want to play.
Speaker 14 (22:24):
Lightning hit for ninety minutes, and then the kids came
and came out and just played from then on.
Speaker 5 (22:29):
Man, it was. It was played really good.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Let's start to score the line. So I'm looking at you.
Speaker 8 (22:35):
We actually had to be.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
We had two scores called back. We did.
Speaker 15 (22:39):
We had a couple other opportunities that we weren't quite
able to connect on.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
But uh, yeah, you gotta do it. Gotta make it happen.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
You gotta make it happen. Okay, who played well? Let
Jeff ask some question.
Speaker 14 (22:49):
Yeah, I thought defensively, I mean our defensive front, I
mean and aston up front, humongous offensive line. So our
defensive front man them kids, I would we're not undersized
by no means. I mean, we got we got kids
that can play, but they just played extremely fast and
watching you know, watching those guys get after it's always fun.
(23:10):
And so, you know, really proud of the defensive line.
I thought our linebacker's crew has really been playing well.
You've got you know ZJ. Grady that everybody knows about
the Caleb Pineer that's a senior that was let us
in tackles last year. You know, top ten tackler in
the state Alabama. And then the young sophomore Trey Stone.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Is his sophomore playing good playing line by family man playing.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
They're playing really good football.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
That's right. And yes, yeah I like them.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
I mean offensive plays.
Speaker 15 (23:41):
Friday night, coach, we were right around fifty plays, but
not near enough. Now it's a funny game because we'd
have them back up, backed up, they would try to punt,
they would roll it back there or we'd block the punt.
So like our our plays are kind of excuse because
we had a really short field. Uh but again we
should have we should have took care of business a
(24:03):
little bit.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Better than they did.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
All right, all right, hey, we move into a region
place by a loss to uh place side Academy.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
And uh stan upe elmore.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Uh what about what's more? Tell us about Marborough?
Speaker 14 (24:21):
I mean we played Marlboro a couple of years ago
in the first round of playoffs, very similar to that.
I mean, they do a lot of things right schematically,
so like they're gonna give you a bunch of looks,
different formations.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
They're gonna motion and.
Speaker 14 (24:36):
And shift a lot of kids on offensively, which is
which you know, if you're not careful, they're going to
gain leverage on you.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
And so they their staff does a really good job
of those type of.
Speaker 14 (24:46):
Things to try to gain them an advantage to you know,
move to football offensively.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
So I think for us defensively, alignment is.
Speaker 14 (24:53):
Going to be a big issue, a big, you know,
big thing we got to continue to do correctly. And
then just like anythrid, now you got to troll line scrimmage.
You know, their front's big, big upfront as far as
the old line wise, and they've got some kids that
can make plays on offense. So we got to do
a tremendous job of continue to do what we've done
the past few weeks, and that's put our offense in
(25:15):
a favorable situation.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
And then go capitalize.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
When you're about size, what kind of what kind of
size would you say, like big extra big?
Speaker 14 (25:22):
No, I would say for five a football, they're they're
a you know, they're they're a big front for five
a foot compared to you what like normally, Yeah, they're
they're probably in most places they're about like we all.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
That's what I mean almost norm I should say average
to what you are.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
They're they're they're about like us.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Okay, you've played them three times. That's what I was
curious about. They've played them three times in the history
or no? Was it three?
Speaker 5 (25:45):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Minute? Is it three? Nothing? Last time you and three
against them?
Speaker 8 (25:48):
No?
Speaker 5 (25:49):
No, no, we want only time.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
There and three against Y'all's what? Yeah, last game was
thirty five nothing, then twenty two, so they've lost two games.
They beat stand hoping based beat him. Correct, There you are,
and Bullgar was about to beat him. So everybody healthy,
Uh pressure, I'll just be keeping it real.
Speaker 14 (26:08):
For the most part. I think we're healthy. Okay, Yes,
that's a great job. Let's go to one minute.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Yeah, one minute. He's tired of me. Appreciate it.
Speaker 14 (26:14):
I mean, I know I made one one comment about
how many games have played on Thursday and then we
get this.
Speaker 5 (26:20):
So how it is what it is?
Speaker 4 (26:23):
I was, I was, I was practicing.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
Sweet.
Speaker 14 (26:25):
I say, we had two NFL days, which in our
line for long, our lego is they get to be
like NFL player. They ain't got to go to school.
They just come and do football and then they go home.
So we did that. Monday was a.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
Holiday, the kids had Tuesday off, so we.
Speaker 14 (26:37):
Brought him in early on Monday morning and then let
them have Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, brought him in
late Tuesday afternoon.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
That has been good. So it's been good.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Let them all.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
I think I could do that.
Speaker 14 (26:47):
Let them all, okay, I just coach football and not
how to worry about school would be great, not for long,
nothing for Justin Jones.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Always good to see you, coach Fass. Good to see you,
always a pleasure. Keep calling the offense, keep making you're
still rocking that shirt like like that. You want to
go to break with us? Tell everybody what we're going
to break. We've got a Chefrids, we got it.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
We've got coach Ethris.
Speaker 12 (27:06):
The Auburn Tigers.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
They got a big one this week, as they do.
And again Welcome.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Back to the High School Notes show, going to break.
Speaker 14 (27:12):
We're going to break, and then coach that he's not
gonna bring it in all right, but he will come
up next.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Modes Hey blew that you're listening to the Coaches show
for most Barbecue, brought you by the Orthopedic Clinic and
Goy's Furniture Express. Keith that Thritch when we come back,
definitely some sinus movement in the air. Welcome back to
Moe's Barbecue. High School Coaching Show, rolling right along every Wednesday.
(27:39):
We've got about thirteen more weeks to go here, at
least twelve more weeks at Mods Barbecue, Big Creek and Auburn.
There are two locations. Were encourage you to go to
either one of them. Certainly this one is a good one.
But we're glad to have you. Anything on the menu
you will want, kids, menus catfish. Coach with he was
shaking his head. You go barbecue, you got they got it, vegetables, dessert, salad,
(28:05):
They've got it all. Mose Barbecue seven days a week,
that's where we're at. They feed our coaches. We appreciate
the Orthopedic Clinic and Moles and we also appreciate Jimmy
and Pamgory at Goree's Furniture Express for what they do
to make this show possible. Jason Lee Engineering, Richard de
grand is, our host, Van Riggs is here, and then
noticed suckle Blue Devils are in the house. Good evening
and gentlemen, all right, it feels good to be one.
(28:28):
And oh, coach will does it? Yes, sir, I know
it does.
Speaker 13 (28:32):
It was a close.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Game, folks, and then they kicked it off forty three six.
Good win. Tell me about it, coach.
Speaker 17 (28:41):
We you know it was the first one of the
year after a two week break. But the guys came
out and they were ready to play. They were fired up,
and we finished it off forty three to six. I'm
not greedy. We could have been. It could have been
a lot, could have scored a lot more points. But
it was, like I said, the first game, so guys
(29:03):
had to get used to playing. We had this Fountain
lead us on the offense. He only had six carries,
but he took six of those carries for for make
six of those carries four touchdowns, finished with one hundred yards.
So offensively he did is he kind of let us
on Friday.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
All right, go ahead, all right, hey, coaching, you play
you got your first game, not the way and you
go right in the region. Play you got a targer
by one and one. They lost their first game to
Private Christian, which is a larger school in three day
school fourteen and US and then of course they won
last week against Calhoun. I'm assuming you get you've seen
both both weeks film.
Speaker 17 (29:42):
We actually only UH were able to get our hands
on the game on Friday against Calhoun. But what we
do see from them, they are there. They are more
improved teams. They're they're athletic. But if we feel like
(30:04):
we stay away from the mistakes and play our brand
of football, I think we'll be Okay.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
What what are you? What do you gotta do, coach
to stop them?
Speaker 17 (30:14):
Well, they are try to be physical, they're they're lined
up and they want to run at you. So un
run first team. So we just gotta we gotta defensive.
We just got to step up and be ready to
stop their run. I think UH coach Green, coach kitt
our defensive coordinators, I think they got a good game plan.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
So I think we're ready.
Speaker 18 (30:35):
You want to jump in their coach, Yes, sir, we're
planning on just stopping the run.
Speaker 19 (30:41):
They like to get in the wishbone set. They also
get in a shotgun with like a power heavy set
out of that, and they'll run the spread and try
to throw you off on some things, but they're going
to try to keep it on the ground much as possible.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Interesting. Interesting, how do your team matchup with them? Coach
as far as offensively and et cetera.
Speaker 17 (31:04):
Offensively, like I said, I just feel like just through
it throughout the course of the year. I think we
have a lot of athletes on the on the offense
side of the ball, so we try to kind of
mix it up and get all our guys involved. And
that's kind of what we hang out had on offensively
because we feel like we have a lot of athletes,
so it's gonna be hard for a team to kind
of just kind of go athlete for athletes, and so
(31:27):
we try to get the guy the ball in everybody's
hands and let them make plays. So we think doing
it that way makes it kind of hard for defenses
kind of key in on one person.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
So I think we're gonna be okay.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Everybody played Friday Coach, Yes, sir, and I know it's
not a bunch of them, but everybody.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Everybody got everybody was proud to get into.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Yes, sir, Yes, sir.
Speaker 17 (31:50):
We had a lot of a lot of happy parents
to see some of their younger kids get in.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
So they were excited about what the youngest one you play,
the eighth grader?
Speaker 13 (31:58):
Uh yeah, great, eighth grade.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Eighth grade, that's good. We had a few eight grade.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
It's actually good.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Did you have a good week labor day everybody there?
Speaker 5 (32:07):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Yeah, oh yeah, if you can get them all their labor, well.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
I'm telling you we uh.
Speaker 5 (32:12):
We had.
Speaker 17 (32:13):
We had practice Monday, We had did a morning practice.
We did started at eight thirty. For the most part,
we had most of the guys there. But you know, we
had some guys that that missed. But for the most part,
most of the key guys that we needed there they
were there.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
So good. Good, that's what you want. You feel like
you're ready week one to week two. Coach. They've been
saying it, do you have your biggest change? It would
I mean biggest improvement to be big with it, you know,
would be big.
Speaker 17 (32:39):
You had a big win, So, yes, sir, we just
we're looking to improve, like I said, we kind of
a preached to the guys, don't look at the score,
even though it was you know, forty three six, but
it was a lot of stuff that we can improve on.
So we're we're looking to make sure we made those
adjustments and those changes, and the guys are ready to
go coaching anything.
Speaker 19 (33:00):
We're just going to stop them defensively and try to
get some of the younger guys more reps. That's gonna
have to step in and play a lot during the season.
I have one linebacker that's I'm expecting big things out
of ninth grader t Grays. He played a great game
(33:23):
last week. Uh he's still tenant, still kind of nervous,
but he stepped in and he handled the pressure and
hopefully he, you know, can get better game by game.
And we still have some seniors tomorrow. Austin had a
big game on the d line and Walter Tatum at
(33:46):
the corner a long time. So we just you know,
we're going to continue to attack the line of scrimmage
and stop somebody.
Speaker 17 (33:58):
Still said for Friday night, yeah Thursday, right, yeah, yeah,
we moved a game Thursday, trying to miss some of that.
Speaker 13 (34:04):
Uh that rain coming in I.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
Understand we're trying to keep up with both of you guys.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Thank you Blue Devils, all right, thank you all for
being here, Big Blue. Is that a talk at home
tomorrow night? A Talkerville and not the sugle? Break the
guard to Justin Jones and we come back to Moe's Barbecue.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches Show. Jeff Sachs,
d Mark Mitchell, Jason Earl Lee and coach Ron Williams.
Good afternoon, coach.
Speaker 20 (34:36):
How are you good evening, gentlemen.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
It's always a pleasure to see you.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
We are coming to you live from Moe's Original Barbecue
and it's brought to you by the Orthopedic Clinic and
Gorye's Furnishure Express out on one sixty nine Pam and
Jimmy gory coach last week Central?
Speaker 4 (34:53):
Is it Hainesville or Haneyville?
Speaker 20 (34:54):
Hainville?
Speaker 4 (34:55):
Thank you? Thank you? I thought so too, Martin. Thanks
is Haneybille?
Speaker 12 (35:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 20 (35:00):
A lot of you know, and people say it differently.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Yeah, all right, hey you you're two and oh coach too,
and oh you started out the season beating Nelwood Christian
out of Selma and then last Week forty fourteen win
over Central Hainbal tell us about that game.
Speaker 20 (35:16):
Played good on both sides of the ball. Offensive list,
we're still scoring great. Our kids are getting it together
on the offensive side of Kudos to our offensive coaches
i OC Coach car as Well and coach ag and
coach Toes and those guys and Coach Turned who run
the offense. Still got those guys clicking on all cylinders.
(35:38):
So in defensive wise, we had some little spats, but
we still we were able to keep it.
Speaker 13 (35:46):
Where we wanted to.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Defensive wise, adn't coach anybody who had really good games
for you, and that.
Speaker 20 (35:52):
Our quarterback did a really good job of staying poisoned
in the game. Zeph and I Phillips had a great
game running the ball. Defensive wise, Jamars Broughton had a
really good game. So all in all, we had some
our receivers played well. Cam Thomas played very well, so
(36:16):
all in all, had a really good team effort. So
just not really just putting out those guys that really
had a good team effort.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Coach, we're moving into region play. Yes, sir, your first
reason game it's this week two. I guess really you
had Week zero zero Week zero, zeke one's week two.
According to them, you're in your third game of the year.
You're in uh the region with your region Central Cousa
horse you Ben Lefte Lnette Loach Folk Rambo in real town.
(36:46):
Ramon Lock dropped their first game to Mount Zion out
of Georgia. I don't know much about them, and then
beat Woodland UH in their second game twenty three to six.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Coach tell us about random.
Speaker 20 (36:58):
Uh, well coached, very big upfront, have two good running backs,
really big quarterback about six three. So I'm gonna have
our We're gonna see where we're at real quick Friday night.
That's gonna determine a lot of things. They're very physical upfront,
so we gotta match all their intensity, match their physical caality.
(37:20):
So it's gonna be a it's gonna be a challenge
for us. And you know, we're gonna see where the
see where the chips may lay.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Yeah, how you physically go, We're good.
Speaker 20 (37:30):
We got some nix and bombs, got a couple of
players maybe out. You know, it's the next man up,
and that's how we're leaving the season. The next man up,
all right, So we're gonna we go. We're gonna go
play ball.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
We talk about have y'all changed, Have y'all changed the day.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Of your game?
Speaker 20 (37:48):
No, sir, we're still gonna play on Friday.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Gotta ask, don't know because I don't know who's don't
know who's having who. So yeah, we're gonna keep our
t and oh, as Jeff said, gotta be good about that,
I'm joining Lake. I don't want to stop the float.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
Well, we were just Nixon bruises. You get you kind
of beat up just a little bit. Of course, everybody
is this time of the year. After two games, you
know it's it's it's a physical game.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Yes, sir, what about going into this week? Coach, I
know Jeff talked to you a little bit, Rundo, and
you're two and oh you're playing good. You've scored sixty points,
I mean sixty point excuse me, almost one hundred points.
You've scored ninety points. Uh, two games, giving up fourteen.
Speaker 20 (38:28):
Rolling coach, Well, I mean, you know, every game gets tougher.
Our kids are understanding the buying is just a little
bit at a time.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
We're buying in better.
Speaker 20 (38:40):
No, I told you, I said this during the media
days back there was time and a lot of these
kids are buying into that.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
You know, it's time for a change.
Speaker 20 (38:49):
So they're working hard and we appreciated, and our coaches
are working very hard and dialinggently with our kids to
get to a point that we feel like we need
to be.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
At agree with you, coach, it doesn't. And you know
your assistant coach, you're golly, I lost his name now
cars Cars. He seems to make a big difference. You too,
seem to really kind of feed off each other. He
seemed to really trust him.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
Coach with I do I do.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
I can tell you know.
Speaker 20 (39:20):
I love coach Cars well, they me and him was
at each other day about ball and I love it.
Speaker 12 (39:24):
You know.
Speaker 13 (39:25):
And that's that's the biggest thing.
Speaker 20 (39:27):
That you can go back and forth with each other
how you see stuff and then you know.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
Go put it on on the on wax.
Speaker 20 (39:34):
But I call put it on the wax and let's
go with it. So just to make your team better, yes, sir,
And then that's it's it's very competitive with us a
lot of us coaches out there now, and it's making
our team better.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
That's what you want, yes, sir? All right, coach any
other news played at home. We need Baldoll Stadium to
be jammed.
Speaker 20 (39:50):
Yes, sir, we try to go three and know you
know it'll be.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
Our program after we no go ahead? Should you said
it right? We try to go three. Yes, I won't
get arrogant.
Speaker 20 (39:58):
Yeah, we're gonna you know, we're gonna put it on,
put it on the line and hope everybody comes out
and it'll be really big for our program and our
kids are buying it.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Three and oh, there you go. One way is making
a difference in winning, right there. Good to see Buddy Roathan.
Appreciate you down yet?
Speaker 4 (40:14):
Yes, sir, he lets the wife private.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
She's got it all right. We're at Mose Barbecue. The
Blue Devils are on deck. Notice Suggle there. Want to
know we'll come back to Moe's talk to them a
little bit more. We got coach Edthridge and we got
the guard All high.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
School Coaches Show continues.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
And welcome back to the High School Coaching Show's see
if you turn the lights on tomorrow. Jeff siserd Mark Mitchell.
We got Southern Prep coming up next. We got coach Newman,
Coach Reese. Good afternoon, how are y'all doing?
Speaker 21 (40:46):
Good.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
How are you all right? Last time we had you
guys was before the eleven man game against Sparta. Yes, sir,
we've already handled that one.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Last week you had Cousa Valley Academy. Let's talk briefly
about that one.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
Just caught up on that.
Speaker 22 (40:58):
You know, we went into it. There was a new
to ape Man, so we didn't know what to expect.
They had some athletes. We thought they were gonna be
a wing t They spread it out, so we weren't
expecting that until we got there. But we handled it
pretty well because we used to seeing that every day
against our own offense.
Speaker 5 (41:12):
But uh, we started off slow.
Speaker 22 (41:15):
We had what three turnovers in the first quarter or
something like that, and then we jumped out forty one
or forty to nothing and they scored that last couple
of minutes of the game. But we settled in, got
a couple of turnovers our own, and.
Speaker 4 (41:29):
We go just played ball.
Speaker 23 (41:30):
I think I think the biggest thing though, was the
energy that we came out with. I think against Sparta
we got off the bus and just thought we were
going to roll over them. And you know, you can't
have that attitude any week. And I don't know why
we had that attitude, but I feel like the players did.
And you know, we went in at halftime and told
(41:51):
them they needed to play with some more energy. In
the second half, they looked great, and then they came
out against Cousa Valley and played really well.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
They played really hard all.
Speaker 23 (42:01):
Game, so it was good to see that.
Speaker 4 (42:03):
You know, it's good you got to win.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
Going into the Springwood game, we're talking about a team
that was in the finals.
Speaker 4 (42:07):
Ye, yes, sir, in eight man. Uh, it's not the
same team.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
I'm sure they returned some good guys.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
Oh sure, yeah, tell me about Springwood. Stop the run,
Stop the run.
Speaker 7 (42:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 22 (42:19):
We moved it to tomorrow night because all the weather
on Friday, so we played tomorrow night. Coach Burt he
always has a good physical team, run game.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
He's got brothers, Goro and Uh.
Speaker 22 (42:31):
I can't think of brother today, but they run the
ball and he's.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
A force to tackle.
Speaker 5 (42:38):
So all we gotta do.
Speaker 22 (42:39):
I think offensively, we lean on be physical our offensive
line with their D line, and they can because they
don't have much depth.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
We have much depth.
Speaker 22 (42:48):
So I think whoever's about of attrition pretty.
Speaker 4 (42:50):
Much same time though, seven Yes there, Okay, seven, So
we moved to Thursday, but we're just one seventh Central Y,
so we'll be on the same time.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Maybe the rain won't be there. Maybe maybe a rain
after you guys get back home and everybody's in bed. Yeah,
I hope, sir, and that'll be fine. And we do
need the way, Yeah we do. I'm good with that. Hey,
thanks for coming in, Coach. Coaches. Is good to see you.
Speaker 4 (43:10):
So you guys have a good, good trip home, y'all.
Y'all have to go, y'all dispersed, He goes back to school.
I'm up the roads. Okay, all right, Hey, up next
Leafette Coach one.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
Wee back at Moles Barbecue, Bent Creek, Auburn, Alabama. That's
where we're at each Wednesday, six until eight o'clock East
Central time. That'd be seven to nine on the eastern side. Mitchell,
(43:43):
Jeff Sasser, Jason Lee, Richard Legren, the host, the man,
the myth, the legend, commissioner. He's handling things, checking people in.
Jeff and I are interviewing. Jason's commanding control vans down there,
just chilling. He's asking back for sideline help. Uh Smith
stations in the house. Coach Nixon. Good evening, coach.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
Hey there there you doing.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
I'm good, Coach Nixon. Tell everybody what do you coach
at smith Station?
Speaker 21 (44:06):
I'm the wider receivers and tight ends coach at Smiths Station.
Speaker 1 (44:08):
All right, this is your number four year, number three
with the varsity. You tell you, yes, sir, it is
all right? All right? So first off, your game has
been moved to tomorrow night, right, yes, sir, it is
all right. So we are playing at now? Is this
one of the ones that changed times? Are you still
playing at?
Speaker 21 (44:23):
Should be at seven o'clock at home again at Central?
Speaker 4 (44:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (44:27):
I have never heard who Jason? You get Jeff up? Yeah,
but it's against Central, but it's at regular time seven Central.
Speaker 13 (44:34):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
Let that moved their game.
Speaker 13 (44:36):
Two, that's right.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
As far as I know, they're the only ones that
moved till six.
Speaker 1 (44:39):
Yeah, okay, I'm sorry. So there you go. All right,
coach 's talk a little bit about last week, and
I see it was a tough loss last week. Talk
a little bit about that, and then we'll come in
and talk about Central.
Speaker 21 (44:48):
Yeah, just an excuse was we should have all special teams.
Last week had some trouble with a snap on punt
twice one said whatever the punter said for a safety
in the first half, and then another one hit the
punter in the hand. Uh, dropped it and took a
day for some reason in the inside down twenty but uh,
you know their young kids were real young team.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Did he pick it up on his knee, coach his knee, Yes, sir, Yeah,
that's tough, yep.
Speaker 21 (45:14):
But went down a half nine to six, and then
second half just got away from us.
Speaker 24 (45:18):
Uh.
Speaker 21 (45:18):
Didn't execut in the red zone very well on offense.
Defense played tough in the first half.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
Was one of those the snap, one of those nine.
Speaker 21 (45:31):
The safety was a snap.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
It was a safety. Okay, all right, so you had
a okay, so you go in nine seven and then
go ahead the second half.
Speaker 21 (45:38):
Yes, sir, Yes, second half, I mean got ah gotta score.
Just not executing very well in the red zone right now.
We're driving the ball pretty well. I think we roust
for one hundred and fifty last game, and you know
we're putting the big emphasis on that and then practice
this week. Just executing better in the red zone. Two
men in offense has gotta be better for us, and
(45:59):
just growing for a lot of our kids last week
that was our first road game. We're got a lot
of sophomores this year.
Speaker 1 (46:05):
No, y'all don't play many seniors, do you know?
Speaker 4 (46:07):
Sir?
Speaker 21 (46:07):
I think we got nine total this year.
Speaker 12 (46:09):
Nine.
Speaker 1 (46:10):
How many are playing?
Speaker 21 (46:11):
I think about eight or starting all nine. Chrich in
the field somewhat contributed to this some way, But the
majority of our team is sophomores and a few freshmans
trickled in there.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
What about your skill players?
Speaker 21 (46:24):
Most of our skill players are sophomores this year. Quarterback, Yeah,
quarterbacks of sophomore.
Speaker 1 (46:28):
Then you have a senior. Did you have a senior quarterback?
Speaker 16 (46:31):
We had a senior quarterback last year.
Speaker 21 (46:32):
Yeah, senior running back, all senior receivers.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
That's what I thought.
Speaker 21 (46:36):
You know, heavy senior team last year, so lost a
lot all of our production for.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
The part, So the junior class was a small class
in this.
Speaker 21 (46:43):
Junior class is small and the current juniors, the sophomores
last year, is a small class as well.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
Okay, Central, my goodness, jeez. A huge football team. Good
football team, fast football team. Well coached, Yes, sir, I
mean that's from me. You can tell a little bit more.
Speaker 21 (47:00):
Coach, I mean, you know you know when Central's coming
to town, you know what you're getting. Yeah, they execute
well on offense. The coach farewell, great players all over
the field. We've got to go in and play our
game this week and try to slow them down a
little bit and execute.
Speaker 1 (47:16):
When you say play our game, do you try to
go in there, coach and go, Okay, let's do this
or let's do this. I mean, sometimes they're better athletes.
I'm not saying I'm just saying, what do you mean
do you do that? Sometimes say well, we try to
try to do that. I got you.
Speaker 21 (47:31):
No, you're good, yeah, going week to week. I mean,
the biggest thing we want to see is our kids competing,
and we preaching practice, go compete every single day, every
opportunity you get to go out there and uh, you know,
show somebody what you got. And you know, there's gonna
be games you're out, man, there's gonna be games that
you're out athleted. But what they can't take away from
you is the way you compete, the way that you
(47:53):
show yourself on the field. And that's what we're looking
forward to get out of our guys is just for
them to go out every week and you know, get
their film, be able to put something out that they're
proud of, put a product on the field that you
know that we feel comfortable with as coaches, that they're
given their all and at the end of the day,
that's what you know we're looking for is to you know,
get there all.
Speaker 4 (48:12):
Coach.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
Yeah, when you when you're doing something, when you're coaching
a team like this, you need something good to happen earlier.
Sometimes that bad it's like, oh no, when you got
a young team, Am I right on that?
Speaker 21 (48:21):
You were absolutely correct?
Speaker 1 (48:22):
Yeah, you know it's a human nature, isn't it.
Speaker 21 (48:24):
Yeah, if one thing goes bad for us, you know,
it just seems to avalanche after that. We gotta gotta
get some things rolling our way early in the ball game,
and you know, got to see results early on, and
you know that's when they started believing themselves too, and
you know they feel like they can make a difference
in you know, when Bob Wiams.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
So, you know how big a game that would be
if you guys won Friday, it would be unreal. You
take that it can happen, you know that, right? Oh yeah, yeah,
it happens every day. I mean, you just got to
play hard, so make them believe it. If it were
to happen, you shot the state coach. You know what
I mean? All right, So we're Friday night game regular time, right,
Thursday night night save Friday. I meant Thursday night game.
(49:01):
We already discussed at once. Thursday night game was one
of the early one that was moved. Coach got him
at home. Can't get no better than that, Right's right?
Speaker 21 (49:09):
Yes there, it should be a big game.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
Good to see you, buddy. All taket sold out.
Speaker 21 (49:12):
Yet they all sold I'm not sure about that.
Speaker 13 (49:14):
He should be closed.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
They need to be sold out yesday. And there's Coach
Nixon with Smith Station. They got a huge game tomorrow
night at the battle over in Smith Station in the
backyard brawl, quick break Southern Prep. When we come back
to Moe's Barbecue.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
Welcome back to the High School Coaching Show. It's Jeff's.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
That's a Deeve Martin Mitchrip. We got coach Smitty Rider
up mares from benjam Russell. We're live from Moe's Original Barbecue,
brought to you by the Orthropedy Cleaning and Gory's Furniture Express.
Good afternoon, coach, how are.
Speaker 16 (49:49):
You I'm doing good, Jeff, how are you last week?
Speaker 4 (49:53):
Is that the is that a rhyme?
Speaker 5 (49:55):
Where were that was in there?
Speaker 12 (49:56):
It is?
Speaker 16 (49:57):
I think that's the ninth or tenth time we've played.
It's you know, I think that that put them one
up on us. So it's a it's something that started
when coach Horn came. I believe it was when they
started playing each other, and now with him back there,
you know, it's it's it's become a rivalry game of
some sort.
Speaker 4 (50:17):
It goes out. We won't spend much time on it
that game, but you want to talk us through that one, right?
Speaker 1 (50:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 16 (50:22):
Just uh, you know, Jeff, just really disappointing. We we
thought we had a good plan, which I still feel
like our plan was good. We just didn't execute early
in the game offensively. So we struggled with three and
out at the first three times we had the ball,
and it was just mental layers, missed assignments, and then uh,
you know, we we we got a rain delay lightning
delay in the middle or towards the end of the
(50:44):
first quarter and kind of regrouped in the locker room
and played much better when we came back out. We
scored on four of our six last drives. The defense,
uh gave up a couple of big plays. It was
I think we gave up three big plays in the game,
and that really difference in the ball game. Uh, that
combined with us not being able to produce points early.
(51:07):
You know, kids played hard. I mean, you know, but
at some point playing hard isn't enough. You know, you
got to play better, especially against really good teams. And
you know it's Danny Horn and Central Clay and you know,
they got a ton of tradition, and uh, they're gonna
play hard, they're gonna be well coached, they're not gonna
beat themselves. And uh, you know we, I mean we
we didn't have any turnovers.
Speaker 13 (51:28):
They had one.
Speaker 16 (51:29):
Usually you win the turnover battle, you're gonna win the game.
And just couldn't overcome the big plays and the lack
of offensive production early.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
Coach, Hey, we're gonna move on this week. You got
running right on end of region play, you got Koleira.
Speaker 16 (51:42):
Tell us about Calera, Coach, Well, they're the they're kind
of different than the first two teams we played. You know,
we play Opalika in Central and they're both very physical,
want to run the ball and pound you and uh
and that kind of stuff. And uh, they got Scott
Riles as the head coach now and I didn't know
that he's a you know, he's one of those gurus.
Speaker 12 (52:02):
Man.
Speaker 16 (52:02):
He likes to throw it and they like to throw
it all over the place. They got the quarterback back
and he throws a good ball, and you know they
try to spread you out and uh, you know, so
it won't be the physical contest that we played the
last two weeks, but you know it'll be different still
be be just as hard to win or whatever, but
just be different. And then you know, on the defensive side, uh,
(52:24):
they play a lot of man coverage, at least that's
what they've shown so far. And we've kind of found
that nobody's gonna play the coverage weeks that they've played
before when they play us because of Sedarian And so
we've got to have a plan for him to double him,
how we're gonna get him open, those kind of things.
And so that's always a chess match before the game
is you know, how how's the other team going to
(52:45):
defend us in the passing game? And then you know,
our running game is we ran the ball very effectively
last week we running back rush for about one hundred
and twenty yards, and you know, we got to have
more of that and that will open up the passing game.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Let's tell you what coach you need. Team Coach Trial's
coach is gonna be will coach kind of like you.
So it's gonna be interesting, you know what I mean.
I forgot he was.
Speaker 16 (53:06):
Yeah, and they're struggling too. I mean there both of
us are oways too, and I saw that. You know,
he got beat by Central Tuscaloosa last week and by
north Ridge the first week, but most times one touchdown,
I think. And uh, I'll tell you this, Central's got
a good football team. You watch them on film and
they're very impressive. So you know, he got beat by
a good team last week and played them tough too.
So yeah, I mean, you know, everybody and that's what
(53:30):
everybody says, and that's okay. And you know, but like
I told the kids to day, losing ain't okay.
Speaker 7 (53:34):
Man.
Speaker 16 (53:34):
We gotta you know, we got to find a way
to start winning these games. And uh, you know, and
it's it's us. It's all on us.
Speaker 23 (53:41):
You know.
Speaker 16 (53:42):
We just got to eliminate mental airs and uh, those
kind of things and and and we're gonna be fine.
And we just got to keep stay the course, believe
in the plan, and keep getting better, and we're gonna
be fine.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
You are you are, sons coming up. I promise you
thought you first. It's your first reason game.
Speaker 5 (53:57):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 16 (53:57):
I mean it doesn't really matter if we win the
region games we've done the first two weeks. Doesn't matter,
and uh, you know, we'll You know, last year we
were one and one coming into the first round, the
first game of region play, and so you know this
year rowing too. So not a not a familiar place
for us, not somewhere we want to be. And uh,
you know, we've had a great week, great week of practice.
(54:17):
The kids' attitudes are really good and they've worked hard.
We've been a lot sharper this week in practice and uh,
you know, hopefully they'll pay off Friday.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
Night, coach, always good to see you, especial. Yeah, hold
on the owners you talked to him, I about signed
off with and I want to talk to you buy
as your special teams.
Speaker 16 (54:33):
Well, we're struggling a little bit and that's part of
our problem. Our punting game is not very good. That
was the same situation in the Opalaika game. Uh, our
punters are just there. I mean, we averaged about twenty
two yards of punt the other night and that's not
that's not good. We gave up a big return because
he picked it up behind the coverage team, and uh,
(54:55):
you know, we just got to get better there. We
had a bad snap on an extra point, you know,
just those, and we snapped one over the punter's head again.
So you know, we're just having some having some bad
issues there and and uh, you know, we work it
every day and you know, outside that, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (55:11):
What else to do to fix it.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
Just keep working and they'll get it.
Speaker 16 (55:14):
You know, they're they're the kids we got and that's
the kids we're gonna play with. And uh, you know,
you know it's uh, you know, we just got to
get better at it, Mark, And you know how important
special time they are, how important.
Speaker 7 (55:24):
They are to me.
Speaker 16 (55:25):
And I make an emphasis on that. We spend a
ton of.
Speaker 4 (55:28):
Time in a special team Guru coach that I didn't
know you were brought done.
Speaker 16 (55:32):
That's okay, It's a legitimate question, and it's something that
we've got to address if we're gonna be a very
good team in this region game.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
It'll cost you.
Speaker 5 (55:40):
You saw it.
Speaker 1 (55:41):
I mean, I'm not gonna say it. It can costs
in region.
Speaker 16 (55:45):
You know, we dropped a snap against Opalaka that turned
into a touchdown. That bad snap over the head last
week was a touchdown, So I mean, you know that's
the difference in the game. We lost by a touchdown.
You know, we lost by seven.
Speaker 1 (55:56):
So they're trying.
Speaker 16 (55:57):
They'll get it right, I mean, and the kids aren't
doing it on purpose, right, and and that's you know,
people get mad and just like coach McCracken used to say,
nobody knows who long snapper is till they ses one
over punter's head. And that's what happened. And you know
it's just, uh, we got to be better and continue to.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
Work at it, and you will. You're feeling better.
Speaker 16 (56:15):
Yeah, I'm a lot better this week. Still got a
little cough, but I feel better.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
You know, I looking roughly.
Speaker 4 (56:20):
I'm gonna get sick once.
Speaker 16 (56:21):
A year to be it don't matter at least once
you were poll last week, if they say I was,
I was feeling a little a little down physically.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
Last I ain't seen a young and yet I hope
they're all right. I'm just kidding you. Family haven't been
here with I know it.
Speaker 8 (56:34):
They just they'll be here.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
Okay, I gotta see him running.
Speaker 4 (56:37):
You brought your some week before last. No, no, man,
know what I saw the media.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
Yeah, we did immediate. I don't have a little one
here yet. Neither one there, there there or the first
lady either. I'm just keeping it right now.
Speaker 16 (56:49):
I want to tell you all this too. They y'all
if y'all tried that Mississippi.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
Mud pie, you know what I can't eat, but it
looks good.
Speaker 16 (56:56):
Goodness, I got one together.
Speaker 12 (56:57):
That's what it is.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
Pie.
Speaker 16 (56:59):
No, it's like some kind of pudding with a some
kind of brownie in it.
Speaker 13 (57:03):
Man, it is good.
Speaker 1 (57:04):
It looks good.
Speaker 13 (57:05):
It is good.
Speaker 1 (57:05):
I can't eat chocolate.
Speaker 4 (57:06):
My wife eats it, she gets it, just gets.
Speaker 16 (57:08):
The banana pudding my granddad nana pudding is good, but
this is better.
Speaker 1 (57:12):
But chocolate anyway, Candy Coach, good to see you.
Speaker 16 (57:15):
I appreciate y'all having me, and you know I enjoy
coming every week morning, did you hear?
Speaker 1 (57:19):
Coach?
Speaker 16 (57:19):
I'm I'm running out of old friends. Uh you know,
ri it's gone Rogers.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
Go your career, just me. And he left early night.
Speaker 16 (57:28):
No, he wasn't really in that old now and what
about coach Coach Daniels left early tonight.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
Listen, don't come anymore. He's hey, it's just me, man,
it is.
Speaker 4 (57:37):
I'm hanging in there like old loose tooth bro We
get some old players back this way.
Speaker 1 (57:41):
There you go, there you go, all right, always coach.
They'll be at home against Clear at the Charles Bailey
Sports Plays. We're going to take a break Smith's Station
in the House from Mose Barbecue when we come back.
Speaker 2 (57:58):
Welcome back to the high School Coach Show is Jeff Sassid,
Mark Mitchell, Jason, Earl Lee. We'll come to you live
from the Promoe's Original Barbecues is brought to you by
the Orthopedy Klink and Gory's Furniture Express. And we had
coach Dillon Griggs from Mussell County. It's our next coach up.
Good afternoon, coach.
Speaker 18 (58:16):
How are you.
Speaker 13 (58:17):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 1 (58:17):
How are you?
Speaker 4 (58:18):
I'm doing very well? You played I wonder you follow
last week and look this talk briefly about that. Then
we're gonna move on to WEETWD. Look we got we
got to talk about your previous game.
Speaker 12 (58:27):
Yeah, no, listen, you know, and was really proud of
the guys and a lot of especially in the first half.
You know, we go into halftime tied fourteen to fourteen.
You know, just to be honest with you, man, you know,
we missed some some throws and some catches that we've
normally made.
Speaker 4 (58:42):
You know, a lot of times.
Speaker 12 (58:42):
If you had told me that it went down to
throwing the ball or catching the ball, I would feel
really good about us. But we just missed a couple
really uh easy touchdowns and ended up losing by thirteen.
You know, defense, I think was on the field a
little too long, and I think you kind of saw
that in the second half.
Speaker 7 (58:58):
You know.
Speaker 12 (58:59):
But you know, like you have simple catches or simple throws,
you got to make those to beat teams like you follow,
they're going to capitalize on it. I don't I don't care.
You know, I was telling the kids all leave. They
lost to a Booker T Washington team that beat Jackson,
that lost to sarah Land by six points two weeks ago,
so you know, and BTW had a lot of those
(59:19):
kids back, and so you know, that's not a normal
four a first off, but you're talking about two semi
finalists playing each other the week before. And I think
what shot me more than anything was, you know, I
felt like, and this is where we've got to look
at ourselves and why was it like this? But you know,
like you know when you're tied fourteen to fourteen, that
you follow at halftime, you know, you should be kind
of excited, you know. And I walked in the in
(59:39):
the locker room and it just kind of it wasn't
that it was sad. It just kind of felt like
we were losing, you know, And I think I was
kind of shocked a little bit. And so, you know,
regrouped with the boys this week, feel really good about
you know, listen, you know in the past, we normally
like if we lost, we just lost. You know, you
could clearly look at this game and see why we lost.
Does that make sense? How we beat ourselves? And so
(01:00:01):
I think, more than anything, I think, you know, just
kind of glad to be at a point where we
know that we can fix what caused what happened.
Speaker 5 (01:00:09):
The cause and that effect.
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
Though was the turnovers. Go do you have some turnovers?
Speaker 12 (01:00:13):
We had maybe one? Now they had a couple. We
didn't recover nine of one.
Speaker 8 (01:00:17):
It was wild.
Speaker 12 (01:00:18):
Sometimes I swear we're on an Indian barrelground. We'll see
fumbles on our field and it'll like bounce all over
the place until it lands to one of the opposite guys.
Speaker 4 (01:00:26):
How many offensive plays I think the.
Speaker 12 (01:00:29):
Other day it was forty six credible gas.
Speaker 4 (01:00:32):
You're in the forties in that game. How many plays
were on defense?
Speaker 5 (01:00:36):
I would say, how.
Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
Many players did they run?
Speaker 12 (01:00:39):
I think the DC told me they were around seventy, so.
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
They were just on the field.
Speaker 12 (01:00:44):
Yeah, Well with offensive, well, you know, we're a really
explosive offense. But it still goes back to I'm telling you, like,
we've got a great quarterback and a great group of receivers.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
Just something wasn't right the other day, and you know, I.
Speaker 12 (01:00:53):
Mean, you know, I want to say the same thing
happened in game two last year, and now we were
playing Corb Montgomery, which is a little bit different of
an animal. But you know shows you know, we just
got to prepare a little bit better and work a
little bit harder.
Speaker 4 (01:01:05):
Hey, well you got you gotta travel this week. You
had your first two at home. You gotta go to
we tumk uh last week. I'm not sure how we
tok they lost lost, No, they beat they.
Speaker 1 (01:01:19):
Beat Bulls last week.
Speaker 4 (01:01:21):
There you go in a close game.
Speaker 8 (01:01:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:01:23):
So so you know, you know, a good football team.
I think the defense is really good. I think the
offense is still trying to find its identity a little bit.
And so you know it's gonna be rating real bad
on Friday nights.
Speaker 5 (01:01:34):
But yeah, so.
Speaker 12 (01:01:37):
We're gonna go in there. You know, last year, I
think we lost to them, you know, thirty six to forty.
It is thirty, it's forty. I think thirty thirty four
to twenty one. No, that was the last week you
followed they got a new offense coordinator too, well, not
well they did, and then I think that's changing. I
think that's changing again this week. Oh yeah, I think
they got another new OC starting this week. So you know,
(01:01:59):
they got a lot going on. Actually talked to j
C today as a matter of fact. But you know,
they're a good physical football team. Bear does a good job.
You know, they're gonna they're gonna they're gonna have his
identity tough.
Speaker 20 (01:02:10):
Nos.
Speaker 12 (01:02:11):
You know, we got to come in, we got to
hit somebody. I mean, you know, but it goes back
to you know, I feel like we can beat anybody
on any day as long as we just do.
Speaker 5 (01:02:17):
What we're supposed to do.
Speaker 12 (01:02:18):
I'm telling you like, it was really, you know, aggravating,
but at the same time, you know, to know where
we were and where we are to be able to
literally say this is why we lost the game. You
can put up five plays on the board and say
this is why we lost the game right here. So
you know, we got to figure out how to get
those five plays past us, right, and that's the next step.
Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
It's been playing well for you coach.
Speaker 12 (01:02:37):
Offensively, you know, the quarterback Bryson, I mean, you know,
I mean, even no matter what, we still went fifteen
for twenty four for two hundred some of yards last week.
You know, Denver's still Denver awo thousand yard receiver Megatron.
On offense, Devin Brown has been playing unbelievable. He's had
one hundred plus all purpose yards both games. You know,
Nick Dell on the offensive line has been playing well.
Trist In our center has been playing well, you know,
(01:03:00):
I mean, you know, the offense as a whole, you know,
I think has been playing really good. I mean, I
think every receiver's called at least two or three passes already,
so you know, we kind of spread the love out
there so defensively, you know, you know, we kind of
tick how Camras ticks and how Eldrick Page ticks. So
you know, we just need them to step it up
this week and keep them back out the end zone
(01:03:21):
and let us.
Speaker 13 (01:03:21):
Do what we do on offense.
Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
Coach, you've scored enough once twenty seven game, just about right, Yeah, yes, sir,
So you're putting it up only one. I mean that
one big break. I would think we tuk was offense
is not as explosive as you fallow or did you
I came in late?
Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
Did you have some missues?
Speaker 12 (01:03:38):
Listen? They just handed the ball to zero one all
night and just ran it down our throat.
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
Sometimes it happened that way, isn't it.
Speaker 21 (01:03:44):
Well?
Speaker 12 (01:03:44):
Now, listen, they had a left tack on the right tacket.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
They were big.
Speaker 12 (01:03:47):
I know, I'm talking about as big as any kids
you've ever seen, Like at number seventy three. Oh my god,
I'm teying. He had to be like six foot six,
six foot seven, like at least two ninety three hundred pounds.
And I'm sorry that ain't a power five offensive line,
but I ain't seen one of my life.
Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Yeah, I saw John Sullon at Auburn High. I don't
know if max If Crack was, I don't know. They
went seven plays behind him for a touchdown. Week we
in the press box knowing they're gonna run by, and
still couldn't stop him.
Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
So but I still.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Sometimes you man up, you're just better.
Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
Well yeah, well, I think.
Speaker 12 (01:04:15):
You know once again, you know that's a winning program. Yeah, traditionally.
And they lost the Simmis and I think you played
a team that was really pissed off about losing the
Booker t. And I think you know, coach Hernigan does
a great job, good friend of mine. And you know,
we gotta we gotta continue to be more consistent if
we want to play at a high level.
Speaker 4 (01:04:33):
Oh yeah, absolutely, All right, coach, you have a good week.
Speaker 1 (01:04:37):
Everybody at practice Monday.
Speaker 13 (01:04:38):
Oh yeah, Labor Day is always.
Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
A big week. You know that as the head coach.
All right, it's good to see you. Thanks for being here, deal, sir.
I appreciate your wife too. Good luck on the road.
Speaker 13 (01:04:48):
First trip.
Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
She didn't hear you, Oh I said, it's always good
see her. She's your best to have you. That ball
still going out. Kicked it so far.
Speaker 12 (01:04:54):
Hey, we're gonna keep letting go.
Speaker 13 (01:04:55):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (01:04:55):

(01:06:02):

is And I always called him that those down Alreadio.
Speaker 5 (01:06:09):
And win like him.
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
I'd be good to Brian with a y more.
Speaker 12 (01:06:13):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
Good to see you, coach. Yeah, thanks for having me.
It is cooling office is It is gonna be nice
Friday night at the Duck, no question.
Speaker 13 (01:06:20):
Yeah, be a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
When was the last time you went to the duck?
Speaker 25 (01:06:22):
Shoots been a while?
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
Fourteen fourteen? Was that the what happened in fourteen?
Speaker 25 (01:06:30):
We're twenty nothing at halftime and they came back and
we had to fight to finish their at the end.
Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
Uh.
Speaker 25 (01:06:35):
It was with Matthew Christian senior year and Drew Kaiser,
Nick Jared Gentry.
Speaker 1 (01:06:41):
That wasn't paid there. It wasn't it. That wasn't going
to the championship game? Was that was twelve?
Speaker 25 (01:06:45):
That was twelve? That was twelve week. We scored on
first play, we ran a little rpo, scored first and
a half.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
It was a good start. So we have the same luck.
I was just curious. I remember coach Ethridge sitting right
here in there with his wife, and of course, you know,
knowing him long and I said, look, you've been in
a lot of environments. Now he's going to play at
Bulldog Stadium. I said, I promise it, you ain't been
any one like this. He came back next week, says,
I'll tea you know, he told me actually Saturday morning,
he said, I'm to tell you something. You were right,
(01:07:12):
you know, he said, Bulldog Stadium, something else on Friday night,
and you faced to go in something Friday night? Something else,
isn't it? It's something else. It's it's you know, we
were actually talking about that.
Speaker 25 (01:07:20):
I got to coach that played at Auburn University and
uh and we're talking about the atmosphere. And I told him,
I said, man, I know, I know Jordan Hare and
all that kind of stuff, but this is this is
a different it is it is. The kids are so
you know, in it and so excited. I think, you know,
that's been the challenge, and the messaging all week has
been you know, I started all the way back to
(01:07:41):
the post game last Friday. You know, I said, look, man,
you know we've made this game so big. We did
that as coaches, you know, and can't do it because
they're already so you know, so excited about playing. You
know that they you don't have to get them going
like your Your job really is to calm the water,
you know, with your kids, and keep them in it
(01:08:02):
and understand the ebbs and flows that are inevitably gonna happen.
And so yeah, I mean, it's it's a it's an
incredible environment. They've got a great place to play in,
a great football team on top of it. And but
it's it's been a lot of fun over the years
and a lot of a lot of great vittles there.
Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Yeah, it has ninety eight, ninety ninth meeting. I think
this time forty. My son just said, not a boy, Parker,
good job. That's my stat. Man over forty eight forty
seven three. What a phenomenal series. This man right here
played against them. I played against not as a player.
I was announced. He didn't do too well as a quarterback,
(01:08:36):
but yeah, I mean I come in he was over. Yeah,
well so my whole whole he was over four. I
was over for four coach, so we were one year apart.
So anyway, that doesn't matter. What does matter is your
football team. Let's talk about last Friday. You get a
big win over Callaway, had a bunch of kids do well.
Let's you talk about it before we get back over
(01:08:58):
to the duck.
Speaker 13 (01:08:58):
Yeah, super fast start.
Speaker 25 (01:09:00):
We kicked off and within the first six minutes we
had scored three times and we got two turnovers. Devin
Dixon had an interception and Amari Smiley had had a
strip and then recover the fumble and he can do that.
Both those kids are dynamic playmakers. And then we struck fast.
Jamari Miller was really hot early and Kobe was really efficient.
He was eleven or twelve with three touchdowns. He had
(01:09:21):
a really big night. He's, you know, eighteen of twenty
on the year right now, he's being he's really efficient
and doing a great job.
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
And we ran the ball well.
Speaker 25 (01:09:30):
Calvin started again, big run down the sideline, much like
Game one against Ben Russell. Didn't score, but we end
up inside the five on play one and so big
start and we had a big kickoff return to start
the second half.
Speaker 13 (01:09:40):
So just pleased with how we played.
Speaker 25 (01:09:43):
We had a lull in the second quarter and we
got to kind of get out of those things a
little bit quicker, but got our momentum back right there
to start on the opening kickoff return of the second
half for a touchdown made it thirty five to seven,
and then we scored two more times and put a
lot of kids in so really good to see a
lot of he's going out there, a lot of kids
that have earned the right to go on that field
and play in Bulldog Stadium, and so it was a
(01:10:04):
good start.
Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
You know, we're excited about where we are.
Speaker 25 (01:10:07):
We obviously understand the challenge will be different Friday night,
so but we're encouraged. We're encouraged by where we are,
and you know, our kids are hungry and they're handling
it great. It's been a great week and you know
they understand, you know, this is a big game, but
it's also just the first region game.
Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
You know.
Speaker 25 (01:10:23):
I don't want to downplay too much because I understand,
you know, you can't fool them.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
However, it can't be.
Speaker 25 (01:10:28):
Your super Bowl either, And what I mean by that
is there's a lot of dang football left. This is
week three and uncommon to play this early, which I've
had people ask me why I was written out up
to us and so it's the luck of the draw,
you know, and so but we're excited, We're obviously excited
that the whole city of Oplike will be there. That
the tickets sold out in a day, I think it
tells you a lot about the energy and excitement within
(01:10:49):
our program right now. And we know we'll travel well.
But again, it's all about being comical and collected and
enjoy and being there and and just battling your tail
off and playing as hard as you can.
Speaker 4 (01:11:00):
You know, these games have been so close to coach.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
I've heard people say, you know, we've even talked about
about it, you know, playing them early in the year
sometimes you wish that you'ld have pay them earlier in the.
Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
Year because they got better as a year. You get
better as a year goes on.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
I don't know what's good and what Yeah, yeah, is
it gonna be week eleven or is it gonna be
week three?
Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
Well, sometimes teams get.
Speaker 5 (01:11:21):
Better over the.
Speaker 25 (01:11:23):
And it's all hindsight, you know, as you look back
on the season to see that, you know, but you know, ideally,
obviously you improve and you're you're peeking at the end.
Speaker 13 (01:11:30):
That's a really hard thing, you know.
Speaker 25 (01:11:32):
I spent time I played Danny Horn I think six
times over the years in different spots actually, which is
kind of crazy. But he is the master at playing
well at the end. And I think all of us,
you know, as we get gain more wisdom and experience
through coaching, you sort of learn what buttons to push
is the season wears on, you know, and uh so
those old coaches, man, they just know how to do
that any day.
Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
And Coach Ethers does too.
Speaker 25 (01:11:54):
And you know his teams, you look at them every
single year and those those games they get to play
you know, Central again or whatever, you know, they they've
just improved too. So yeah, we hope to do the
same thing. But I think both teams would like to
play this game later from a rivalry standpoint. But for us, again,
it's exciting to see where we're at, you know, to
(01:12:15):
see what these last eight months you know, will look
like here Friday night, because it really will all be shown,
you know, every weakness that you have, you know, every deficiency,
they will expose those, and we hope to do the same,
you know, And so we're just we're just excited about
that opportunity and hey, we'll get a lot better from it.
You know, again we're going over there expecting to win
the football game.
Speaker 13 (01:12:36):
But but again not too high or too low.
Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
After the ball game.
Speaker 25 (01:12:39):
We're gonna We're gonna finish that ball game with class,
you know, play hard between the whistles, not do anything else.
We've talked a ton about discipline, because I think that's
been the Achilles heel man as you think about, you
know those games. I've played in this game or coaching
this game nine times and seen it good ones and
and incredible wins and really heartbreaking losses, and it's all
been about being discipline and being right all night long,
(01:13:02):
and and not doing things after the whistle, and letting
people get in your head, letting the atmosphere be too big.
And so we work so hard on that, and I
really think that our senior leadership is ready for that.
I believe wholeheartedly, and our kids in the way and
the character of our program. But I do think that's
the difference in a ball game like this, and haveving
seen it nine times, it's been that way historically this game.
Speaker 4 (01:13:22):
Coach, you can play the team again, if you play well,
finish your season.
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
We've seen it happens every year.
Speaker 4 (01:13:30):
It seems yeah. I mean, you know we in twenty twelve,
how many times do we play twice?
Speaker 5 (01:13:34):
That's right?
Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
Three, that's right, roller coaster coach. You gotta maintain You
got to maintain your composure when it's tie right, things
are going good, most certainly something's going to go bad.
Speaker 12 (01:13:43):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
I've seen block punts yep, muff kicks yep. You've been there,
and got to maintain that.
Speaker 4 (01:13:49):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
Easy.
Speaker 13 (01:13:50):
That's hard to do.
Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
And it starts with us. It starts to coming in
on that side. I said, you're looking at you on
the coach, ya are? And and hey man, I run
hot sometimes, I know, and we all do and got
to fight to keep calm.
Speaker 25 (01:14:01):
And you know, I do watch the coaches on Saturdays,
you know, and how they maintain you almost can't tell
any emotions or in you know, what they're dealing with,
and they're doing it in front of ninety thousand people,
you know, And so you know, that's the challenge for us.
And that's what I challenge our coaches with is you
don't need to give these raw ro speeches. You need
to do all that and be out a character with
(01:14:21):
be a demonstrative and acting crazy just just be cool,
calm and collected. You're you're trying to lead a sixteen
year old in front of ten thousand people. Just think
about that, you know, and keep them from you know,
in a high impact, a very very intense moment. You're
trying to keep them emotionally stable, and that's a challenge
and so for us, I really do believe that that's
the deal. But hey, we're playing a great football team
(01:14:43):
this Friday, one that I have a ton of respect for,
and my great friend Brandon Johnson's over there and I
love him, and you know, they're doing a great job.
But again, we worked up real hard to get in
this spot as well. So we're excited and we have
all the confidence in the world with our team going
over there as well.
Speaker 1 (01:14:57):
Coach, I know you do. The game is sold out
per ethnic direct Dan Norton.
Speaker 4 (01:15:00):
No tickets.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
No tickets are left, none at the gate, none on
the line. Might buy one from a scalper. I got
a media pass and I got a line in July.
I got a media pass. I might sell it. I
don't know what. There are no tickets, per Auburn Athletic
Director Dan Norton, so do not come to the game
and try to buy tickets at the gate. You might
want to buy a scalper Man's got three fingers over
they sell a three coach. This is what this is
(01:15:23):
what you come to o for, you know what I mean?
Play games like this. That's right, So it's good luck
to you. Yeah, Parker, pull that markphone down for me, Bud.
What do you think about this game?
Speaker 7 (01:15:32):
Parker?
Speaker 26 (01:15:33):
Just got to play really good and go dogs.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
Okay, Parker's hold hold on? Come back? Yeah, go ahead,
we need no no, no, hold on?
Speaker 5 (01:15:42):
Parker?
Speaker 25 (01:15:42):
All right, you want to get in that truck and
you don't get all right, Parker, all right, real quick, No,
I'm not going to ask you about Parker the injuries.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
So what do we have to do to win the game.
Speaker 26 (01:15:52):
Just play really hard, don't cause turnovers.
Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
Don't calls or don't turn it over, don't.
Speaker 26 (01:15:57):
Turn the ball calls turnover, and let's play really hard.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
Play really hard, steady. That's it. So what grade are
you in right now?
Speaker 26 (01:16:05):
I'm an eighth grade.
Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
Are you playing?
Speaker 26 (01:16:06):
Yes, sir?
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
Have you played a game?
Speaker 26 (01:16:07):
Yes, sir, that you do bos snapped over my head.
But other than that went.
Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
Pretty good, really cause y'all win.
Speaker 26 (01:16:15):
No, certain we did not do well. We played tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (01:16:17):
I like that, sir.
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
Okay, what time?
Speaker 13 (01:16:19):
What time?
Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
Tomorrow night? Six o'clock whereabouts?
Speaker 26 (01:16:21):
We played in Bulldog Stadium against Benjamrross.
Speaker 13 (01:16:25):
Is that right?
Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
Well? You know what, I got to get a schedule.
I'm going to pick up Madison from the airport. I
would have come by, but I'll come by and watch
you play. What do you play?
Speaker 26 (01:16:33):
I play quarterback?
Speaker 1 (01:16:33):
What's that position? I'm kidding, Parker, you play quarterback? What number?
Speaker 26 (01:16:39):
I'm number eighteen?
Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
I'mber eighteen, number one in your heart?
Speaker 12 (01:16:41):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:16:42):
Seventh or eighth grade? Team?
Speaker 26 (01:16:43):
Eighth grade?
Speaker 4 (01:16:43):
Eighth grade?
Speaker 1 (01:16:44):
Eighth grade? All right, So tomorrow night, Bulldog Stadium at
six o'clock six pluck? All right, Parker? What's the final
score for Friday night?
Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
Going to be a million or nothing?
Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
I hear you, buddy, I hear you, gold Dogs? All right? Coach,
good to see you. That's Brian Moore and Parker Moore.
And as they are listening to the High School Coaches Show,
Moe's Barbecue will continue our show sponsored by the Orthopedy
Clinic and Goryeze Fronts Express, and we welcome you back.
Mose Barbecue, High School Coaches show Fox Sports a game nine, ten, thirteen, ten,
(01:17:15):
and ninety seven point seven, Kit Krif, M D, Mark, Jeff, Jason,
Moose's in the house down there, Van Riggs and we're
here on a beautiful Wednesday evening and breeze feels good.
Nice Wednesday night, not sweating, beautiful night on the Verando
Mose Barbecue, seven days a week, you name it, they
got it. Time to talk Valley football. Adam Hunter, the
(01:17:36):
head coach of the Ram, joins this. Coach Hunter, good evening, good.
Speaker 4 (01:17:38):
Evening, How y'all, We're good. Good to see you, Good
to see y'all.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Yeah, thirty six nine went over Smith, congrats, thank you,
thank you, good job even the record at one on one.
Tell me about the game. I know you won, but
give me a little bit of details.
Speaker 27 (01:17:49):
Oh, you know, our kids came out played well. If
we didn't know how they would respond after the week
one lost and the way we kind of lost it,
and you know, coming back that week this past week
and really compete eating and you know, I thought we
won all three phases of the game, which was big
for us, and you know, just proud of our guys.
Proud of the guys, proud of the coaches, proud of
everybody that's part of this organization. You know, they did
(01:18:11):
a really good job this past week of getting better.
You know, that's that's one thing we did. Uh, anytime
you start off the season without a fall jamboree game
and you go into it the first game, you're gonna
have some mistakes, just some personnel stuff that we had
to clean up coming off the sideline.
Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
And I thought we did that really well last week.
Speaker 12 (01:18:30):
I thought we cleaned that up.
Speaker 27 (01:18:31):
I thought we did really well subbing and getting our
guys in and and and transitioning from offense, defense, special
teams and that and that stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
And you know we won those three phases of the game.
I think we've played really well.
Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
I'm sure you did. Coach. Anytime you score that kind
of you know, thirty six and the other team to nine,
you probably did a lot of things good. All right,
we go in. Let me go back week one to
week two. We always talked about the progression. Obviously lost
a tough game Week one. Did you make the progression?
You thought from week two we kind of went over
that wall ago You pretty pleased with that part. I do.
Speaker 27 (01:19:00):
And you know, it helps being at home, that's one thing,
you know, it does help. But I thought our kids
responded well. I thought we had a really good week
of practice coming off of that, and and that was
key going into this getting it. Being at home, playing
in front of our crowd.
Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
All that helped.
Speaker 4 (01:19:16):
And and we did.
Speaker 27 (01:19:17):
We got better than every uh, you know, in every
phase of the game. I thought our coaches did it
really well. We we game playing really well for him.
You know, I think, uh, the shoutout should go to
our coordinators for doing such a good job on that.
You know, they really put their heads down and went
to work this week, you know, and and they go
to work every week. But you know, it just seemed
(01:19:37):
like everything jailed really good this past week.
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
There you go Central Clay coach going on the road.
Very good football team. Danny Horn of he's he's one
of the best. In fact, I think he's got the
win total by a game or two or whatever, two
or three valleys zero and four all time. That means
nothing except next games coming up.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
That's right.
Speaker 27 (01:19:54):
You know, you know what you're gonna get with coach Horn,
You're gonna get a really physical football team defensively to
run to the football. Well, they're gonna play sound defense.
You're not You're not gonna trick them. You're not gonna
do anything like that. They're gonna play really sound. They
don't do a whole lot, but what they do they
do really really well defensively. You know, their kids buy
in to be real physical. Uh, So we got to
(01:20:14):
work cut out for us offensively. We got to we
got to win the game up front. You know, they
got some pretty good big dudes up front. You know,
the defensive end is really good. We're gonna have to
blunk him all night. He's gonna be, you know, a
factor for them. So, you know, we got to play
well up front offensively, and we got to control the
game a little bit, hold the ball some and you know,
(01:20:35):
go out there and and don't have any turnovers. And
then you know, defensively, he's gonna do something that he
usually doesn't do. From what we've seen in the past
two games, he's kind of spread it out a little bit.
He's got some athletes out there there trying to get
the ball to uh. You know, they're they're throwing the
ball around a lot more than what they have in
the past, but at any point in time, he can
jump in the wishbone, you know, and he can get
in that ball and run it. And so you know,
(01:20:57):
we've got our work cut out for us. That's one thing.
Speaker 5 (01:20:59):
You know.
Speaker 27 (01:20:59):
Coach Horn does such a good job of his kids
buy in so well to you know, being a physical
football team.
Speaker 1 (01:21:05):
Yeah, you know, how do you plan for that? Are
you able to simulate? How do you do that in practice? Coach?
That's kind of what I was thinking.
Speaker 27 (01:21:11):
It's harder, you know, you look at it going back
to last week Dismiths Station. You know, they're they're double wing,
they're running the veer and midline and stuff. It was
hard for us to prepare for that, you know, because
you know our kids don't do that, you know, So
preparing for Clay Central it's a little bit easier when
they spread the ball out, but it gets a lot
harder when they get in the bone, and you know
it is you can't simulate their game speed. You just
(01:21:33):
got to hope that your kids understand it and can
go into the game and know that this is what's
fisling to take place.
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
Labor Day Monday, here we are Wednesday. If you have
a good week so far we have.
Speaker 27 (01:21:42):
We had a pretty good week. I thought Monday and
Tuesday was really good practice. Monday was a really good practice. Yeah,
the kids bounced around with this early morning practice at
nine o'clock. So, you know, Monday and Chuesery was good.
Speaker 16 (01:21:52):
Today.
Speaker 27 (01:21:52):
I wish it was you know, we could have been
a little bit better, but you know, I think our
kids are ready. I think our kids are ready to
go up there and play, and that's the main thing.
We want to be in the game. That's that's the
key being this game and have a chance in.
Speaker 1 (01:22:04):
The fourth Yeah, region game, coach, first one, it starts
right here. Now you're wanting one. That's important, but it
is you want.
Speaker 13 (01:22:11):
To be one to know in the region.
Speaker 27 (01:22:12):
And you know we got we were facing the team
that everybody's chasing in our region. There's no doubt about it,
there's no secret about it. So you know we've got
to work cut out of to be want to know.
You want to be there, uh, but you know it
doesn't necessarily define what you can do. You know, you
you got to treat it that way. But you want
to get that first one.
Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
Yeah, you don't want to go too high. But you
want to be too long. Relatively healthy, coach.
Speaker 5 (01:22:35):
We are.
Speaker 1 (01:22:36):
We're healthy.
Speaker 12 (01:22:37):
You know.
Speaker 27 (01:22:37):
We got some some you know, banged up and some bruises,
you know, some minor things that it's just this time
is the year football. You know it's gonna happen.
Speaker 12 (01:22:46):
Uh, But overall we're pretty healthy.
Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
All right, coach. Always good to see you playing. You're
playing Friday.
Speaker 4 (01:22:53):
Yeah, we're still we're staying back and forth.
Speaker 1 (01:22:55):
Some means had to move and think a little bit
of all right, Friday night at Central Play. You can
hear the game on one hundred went nine to boy
Adam Hunter, head coach at bat of Rams. Good luck, sir,
go Rams. We'll take a quick break from o'se Barbecue.
High School Coaches Show presented by the Orthopedy Clinic and
Gory's Furniture Spress continues.
Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
A welcome, Welcome back to the High School Coaching Show.
This I'm Jeff Sasser d Mark Mitchell. We're coming to
you live from Moe's Original Barbecue. It's brought to you
by the Orthopedy Clinic and Gorory's Furniture Express. Jimmy and
Pam are great Americans, and uh, I'm pretty sure they're
braves fans.
Speaker 28 (01:23:33):
Co Well, Ma, that was my question going through my mind.
Do you have to be a brave fan to be
a great American? In my mind, you do, Okay, that's
what I was saying.
Speaker 4 (01:23:42):
If you live in East Alabama and you're not a
brave fan, you're a communist. But that's just me, all right. Hey, Hey,
we got coach Joey Burt from Springwood School coach good
Win last weekend'st the Lighthouse.
Speaker 13 (01:23:52):
Yep, it was a good win for us. They we
played them.
Speaker 28 (01:23:54):
This is a third year in row and they beat
us I think six points each the two previous years,
so that was a big win for our team.
Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
Yeah, sure, I know, Sooner not a or they what
association are they?
Speaker 28 (01:24:06):
They have their own little homeschool league and all of them,
you know dress you know, thirty close to forty players
and they probably would be playing eleven man but their
little league is an eight man league only, So I
mean that's why they're such a challenge. Southern Christian you know,
evangel Alabaster is a top notch team. They just have
so many players and the rest of us, you know,
(01:24:28):
are bringing fourteen fifteen guys and they're dressing about thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:24:31):
Yeah, I always hear about evanger.
Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
You have to make sure you class which one it
is is Ala Alabasta or Montgomery, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
so you got to make sure they're in Hey. This
week you got a Southern Prep. Southern Prep they played
in the eleven man games start the season that beat
by Sparta Academy. Last week Kusa Valley Academy, a region
game that they were able to win that one for.
Speaker 13 (01:24:51):
Yeah, they read it pretty handily.
Speaker 7 (01:24:52):
You know.
Speaker 28 (01:24:52):
Coach Bell does a good job with that team. They
gonna be physical. Uh, they're gonna get after you, and
they're never gonna quit. So you know it's gonna be
a challenge for us. And we did move it up
till tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (01:25:05):
So yeah, a lighthouse coach. Let's talk about that one.
Fifty eight points. You scored fifty eight and you only
gave up twenty eight. How did how was your offensive defense.
Speaker 21 (01:25:14):
In that game?
Speaker 28 (01:25:14):
Well, you know, the first game, we made a lot
of first game mistakes. You know, we had some offside penalties,
we had some holding penalties. We threw a couple of
interceptions you know that were just bad throws off bad reads.
And it seemed like we settled down a little bit
and we made a lot of improvement from week one
to week two, and that's what you want and that's
what you expect, and it seems like we did that.
(01:25:37):
We still have some things we do have to clean up,
but overall, you know, if you compared those two teams
we played and we're one in one, they were very similar,
and we handled Lighthouse fairly easily and lost to un
Southern Christian.
Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
Yeah, so you feel like you cleaned up a lot
between game one. We did.
Speaker 12 (01:25:53):
We did.
Speaker 28 (01:25:53):
We were very very pleased with the adjustments we made
in just cleaning up in general.
Speaker 13 (01:25:59):
You know, getting rid of the first game jitters.
Speaker 4 (01:26:01):
Right now, Southern Prep, you guys are hosting that one
that's we're gonna.
Speaker 13 (01:26:04):
Play Thursday to we're gonna play tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
I need to write that down to make sure, because
there's been a lot of games changed to Thursday this week.
Speaker 28 (01:26:09):
So yeah, we were going back and forth and back
and forth, and then I got a call from this
official association. He said, have y'all talked about it? I said, well,
we're talking about right now. He said, well, we can't
cover your game. I said, well, we'll make it easy
for you. We'll go ahead and play Thursday night, and
you send us some good officials, same time, same time. Yeah,
on us, it's gonna be us the hardest part of
my job. It's gonna be eight o'clock Eastern. So we
(01:26:30):
played seven Central.
Speaker 4 (01:26:31):
Okay, you know I noticed it on that. I didn't notice.
They told me they moved their's up. Yeah, seven o'clock easton.
Speaker 13 (01:26:37):
I wish i'd thought about that.
Speaker 4 (01:26:38):
Something about the range.
Speaker 13 (01:26:39):
I hope the rain don't get here at ten o'clock.
Speaker 4 (01:26:41):
I hope the ring gets here. But it's after the
game and after Southern Prep is at home.
Speaker 13 (01:26:45):
There you go, because we dan'g sure need it.
Speaker 4 (01:26:49):
Yeah, we sure do. Coach, Hey, Southern Prep. Last week
they did win. They beat won their game.
Speaker 1 (01:26:54):
Here's the valley.
Speaker 4 (01:26:55):
Yeah, how is their offense?
Speaker 28 (01:26:57):
Coach, They've got little cold kid. He's probably a three
year starter. He's a senior. He's a very athletic kid.
Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
Uh.
Speaker 28 (01:27:06):
You know, he can play anything on defense and same
on offense. If you throw it up to him, he's
gonna catch it. And they moved him in. He plays
a little running back and he's a tough little kid
and then they got a big bruiser type back that's
a second year starter for him as well, and he's
gonna pound it up in there. And you know, we're
small and thin and we don't have a lot of backups,
(01:27:27):
so you know, that's a good game plan for him
to just take it right at us and see if
we can stop it.
Speaker 4 (01:27:31):
The brothers, are they the biggest guys on your team.
Speaker 28 (01:27:34):
I've got a ninth grader. It's a pretty big old boy.
He's about two fifty two sixty right now, looking little kid. Yeah,
Greg's a little heavier. He's about two ten, two fifteen,
and Cej's about right out two hundred. Yeah, I mean
Greg would get the ball. He made some tremendous catches
in double coverage. He just jump up out jump people
(01:27:55):
and come down with the ball. And CJ had seven touchdowns.
And even even their daddy was giving, you know, Greg
Fitz about, hey, yink, you can't get in the end zone.
But he made some huge plays for us, and so
we ragged him about not being able to get into
end zone last week.
Speaker 13 (01:28:10):
But CJ got in the ends on for for just
about everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:28:13):
Yeah, who is your quarterback?
Speaker 28 (01:28:15):
Our quarterback is Wes Cardon. Wes's coaching son. His dad's
a defensive coordinator there at Lynnette. Uh, this is his
first year there, and uh, you know, he's been around
the game. He was at our school last year and
just played basketball. So we got him interested in him,
got him out. He's a big talk kid. He's about
six to two, he's thin, he's probably about one sixty five.
Speaker 13 (01:28:36):
But he's got a good arm on him.
Speaker 28 (01:28:37):
And he is learning the game right now and he's
making better reads, better progression on all the things. So
I think, you know, we get two or three more
games under his belt and he's gonna be a danger
good quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
All right, a health wise coach. We in good, shakey
right now.
Speaker 28 (01:28:50):
We are, and we hope to hope to continue that
just a few months and bruises.
Speaker 4 (01:28:54):
Everybody's got those, right nobody.
Speaker 5 (01:28:57):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:28:57):
You know, it seems like we we run through cycle.
You know, some years it's one team gets.
Speaker 5 (01:29:02):
Hit with you.
Speaker 4 (01:29:04):
We got it last year, hit with the flu or
some kind of virus and things happened. But I'm glad
everybody's healthy.
Speaker 28 (01:29:10):
Yeah, I hope we can get it through this year
without any Like I said, we had enough last year
to do everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:29:15):
It'll be a good day tomorrow.
Speaker 28 (01:29:16):
Then it's weather, it's beautiful, and I want people we wanted,
and you were a part of why we decided that
because you said, hey, I don't mind playing in it,
and I heard you' all this morning on my drive in.
Speaker 13 (01:29:27):
You said, yeah, but I ain't going to stand out
in it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:29):
No, that's different now playing in it and attending, and
so we all got to we spectators.
Speaker 4 (01:29:37):
You know, when you're there, then Nett's at home. I
may just hey, good luck.
Speaker 16 (01:29:43):
Coach.
Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
That's coach Joey Burch with Springwood School. Uh, we're gonna
take a break.
Speaker 4 (01:29:49):
We're coming back with Coach Hunter from Valley High School right.
Speaker 21 (01:29:52):
After this.
Speaker 1 (01:29:56):
To show from Mose Barbecue, Bent Cricket Armor presented to
you by uh Gorye's Front Express Orthopedic Clinic. Gators in
the house right here, Jeff Good to see Gator in good.
Gator Media Live. Y'all know these folks right here, Gator Media. Uh,
Panthers in the house. Jason Leezer engineer. Let's digging in
(01:30:16):
right now. Let's get a zoom in on that right there,
he's digging in. That's Van riggs command and control down
there at the end waiting.
Speaker 4 (01:30:25):
Wing play.
Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
Yeah, Van's waiting to go to Abring like a game.
He's making sure he gets there early enough, gets fired.
I got him laughing. I used to be fired up.
I understand how that is. He's got to hang out
the window to see the school board. But anyway, Uh
thenette panthers are in the house.
Speaker 12 (01:30:39):
J R.
Speaker 1 (01:30:39):
McDonald coach kicking kitchens. Good to see you, gentlem. Y'all
play in the morning too. Aren't you good to have
y'all on the show today? Yeah, it's always good. So
change the time till tomorrow, right.
Speaker 29 (01:30:51):
Yeah, day, day and time. We're gonna move it up
to seven. Well I didn't know that now seven? Uh yeah,
I did you know what?
Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
I can tweet something out, but I don't even know
what it said. I did say that, Yes, I'm gonna.
Speaker 5 (01:31:07):
Say where.
Speaker 7 (01:31:09):
Looking like it might be around that ten Rangers could
be the end of the ball game.
Speaker 12 (01:31:13):
Four quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
You know how that field is up there, so so
six central seventiest you just.
Speaker 7 (01:31:19):
Wanna try to beat that and uh you know, just
get the get the best possible playing service so nobody
gets you heard that.
Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
Man, I hope it's gonna rain. It's just wait, it's
hope is after the game and as they get home.
Speaker 4 (01:31:30):
Yeah. Yeah, so we were looking for the last week
you had interview.
Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
Yep, first time, it's the first time. They all, this
is a this is this is this the coach is
this first time they've ever beaten Okay, did you know that?
I did not first time they'd ever beaten that? Okay, no,
second second?
Speaker 11 (01:31:49):
Really they said the it was a second back in
they were wrong either no, two thousand and nine or eight.
It was one of the coach stories. First and second
they they did a two year deal. They went down
there and I think they lost in the next year.
Lynette put it on a pretty good and that we
ain't send them something and Pepper said, this was the
first time. It was second maybe more than that, but
(01:32:11):
I know if this was the second, let's talk about
that game real quick, real quick.
Speaker 4 (01:32:15):
Yeah, then we're gonna talk about you.
Speaker 7 (01:32:19):
Uh yeah, just uh, you know, just one of those nights.
Speaker 29 (01:32:22):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:32:23):
We had a lot of self infleeted wounds. And you know,
adversity is a real deal on the road, you know,
in a lot of forms. You get where I'm going
with that. So you know, we had to overcome a lot.
It's hard to overcome more than eleven people on a
football field. Uh and and also yourselves. So that was
(01:32:45):
something that we had to learn from. And you know,
like we told the kids this week, I mean, sometimes
it's just about you know, want to, Like either you
want to or you don't, you know, and there's really
no in between. And if you're in that in between range,
good good things are not gonna happen for you. And
uh so you either have to be all in or
you don't. And uh, you know, for the most part
this week, I thought, you know, it was a better week.
(01:33:05):
We did a lot of going back to the basics,
trying to teach and just get the kids in a
better mind frame. And you know they're a little down,
you know, but I think they're gonna pick it back up.
It was, you know, just something that they got to overcome.
Speaker 4 (01:33:20):
Yeah, you know, this week you got loads of poke
with This is first year they've been into it, right there,
This will be a ready game. This is really starts
right you know, you gotta they gotta understand that, look,
you want to We talked about this earlier with some
other coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
You want to win them all. They all I mean something,
but this one right here, sir, it's differ between you know,
hosting and not being on this show in December. And
you know, so what if y'all seen them, I've seen
them play. I went to the game last week. They
they dedicated the field named it after coach take coach Jones.
(01:33:57):
We were invited. We went, great ceremony. It's good to
see all of those folks, and I got to see
him play. Then what at least got jumped on them
real fast?
Speaker 4 (01:34:06):
If they settled down. What do y'all see in this
pot same time?
Speaker 11 (01:34:10):
Like I said, offensively, uh, I think we're gonna it's
like a lot of spread stuff, very athletic quarterback to
try to contain him and just eliminate the big plays.
And like you said from the Beaulia game, Uh, we're
the limiting stuff that kills ourselves, whether it be penalties,
uh you know, like off size or not even have
enough people on the field. Those are all the little
things that matter in the end. That's what we're trying
to help it. In the first team like versus Locho Poke,
(01:34:31):
Like you said, first region game, very big one two
good teams.
Speaker 4 (01:34:33):
Loch Poker has.
Speaker 11 (01:34:34):
Been very successful over the past few years of A
region championships.
Speaker 4 (01:34:37):
I believe now coming up to two A with us
very athletic, like I said, athletic.
Speaker 11 (01:34:42):
And just be able to just we can just put
it together with killing ourselves, shooting ourselves and on foot.
I think we'll be I think we'll be fine and
if it comes down to the end, it does.
Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
And I hope we're on the This is one of
those this Loch Focus is one of those teams that
was in that rotation with you guys know, the Circle
of Fat Poking. Since they joined your region, you had
to eliminate thatm we had to put them on the schedule.
Speaker 4 (01:35:03):
So we play them. We just didn't it played. It
really means a little more. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Yeah. How's
the team. How do we How we doing?
Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:35:14):
I think we're okay.
Speaker 7 (01:35:16):
You know, you got a lot of guys that they
were they were down, uh you know, and it's about
just picking them back up. And you know, uh for
the most part, you know, the kids man, uh, you know,
they kind of feed off of everybody and themselves really
like what they see in here, and uh, you know,
I like the the talks, you know, kind of in
that that four block crew when they were working out
(01:35:37):
yesterday and the day and it just was real quiet,
real focused in there. Uh, practice wise, you know, for
the most part, I think it was pretty good focus.
You know, odd week we had to switch it up
on them, so they kind of threw it for a
loop a little bit, but it was it was it
was a pretty solid week, you know, Like coach Kitchen said, Man,
I mean we just got to come out. If we
(01:35:58):
can put it together, we're really good football team. If
we just don't, I mean, I mean, it just it'll
show you, you know. And but we got to put
it together. And uh and just you know, keep the
kids focused and locked in and positive.
Speaker 4 (01:36:11):
Energy underclassmen or that's where some of the states are
coming from the younger guys. Or is it from team why.
Speaker 13 (01:36:17):
Now it's team.
Speaker 4 (01:36:21):
All three phases.
Speaker 7 (01:36:22):
Yeah, just careless stuff too, like that's been kind of
non not really shown up and practice or in the
first game. So and that's what kind of that's what
kind of bothers me a little bit. Now, get you know,
you ain't gonna get everything on the road. I mean
I get that, but like also in the in the
in the point of it is you can't put yourself
in that spot. And and that's what I don't think
(01:36:42):
they understood. And uh and now they understand.
Speaker 5 (01:36:45):
So good thing.
Speaker 7 (01:36:47):
We're at home for a long stretch.
Speaker 4 (01:36:48):
Wait and play special teams. Yeah, looking pretty it looks like.
Speaker 7 (01:36:51):
You can tell you yeah, ye janatankban Uh. He's got
a good leg man. He's really shown up well for season.
He's a soccer key and really transition well to it,
you know. And I thought small parts were playing the ball. Well,
you know, we have one bass snap that kind of
really hurt us. But the kickoff deal, but that was.
Speaker 11 (01:37:12):
Yeah, that goes back to a lot of in and
out things that yet to kill yourself.
Speaker 4 (01:37:17):
You can't eliminated that.
Speaker 5 (01:37:18):
That was.
Speaker 4 (01:37:18):
That was a ten point swing right there.
Speaker 13 (01:37:20):
Last night.
Speaker 11 (01:37:21):
We have to do a field goal three kickoff ten.
If you take that away, its twenty twenty one.
Speaker 2 (01:37:25):
Nobody knows the deep snap, nobody knows the sniffer un
list tell us everybody over the head.
Speaker 4 (01:37:29):
Everybody knows who he is.
Speaker 12 (01:37:30):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:37:31):
Yeah, he's a great kid. He stands nine to ten.
This money every time, it's just.
Speaker 7 (01:37:34):
Can't drop four touchdown basses.
Speaker 4 (01:37:36):
Yes, and everybody goes to the soccer team for a kick.
Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
Yes, sir, Hey, good luck, Good luck, Lenette coach R
J McDonald coach kitchen, good luck to you guys.
Speaker 4 (01:37:48):

So and it's a.
Speaker 2 (01:37:52):

the Eastern times on it's seven, So they're starting an
hour early.
Speaker 4 (01:37:58):

Speaker 13 (01:37:59):
Good lucky, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
Srank you good.
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):

Speaker 1 (01:38:03):

Speaker 4 (01:39:04):
All right, so we got it all.
Speaker 1 (01:39:05):
We continue with coach Buster Daniel at least got Warriors
two and oh coming off of twenty one eighteen win
over Loachapoka and load Cha Poka. Coach Daniels, good to
see you tonight.
Speaker 8 (01:39:14):
A great to be here, Dean Mark, Jeff, good to
see you, had to see you of Cours. Good to
see Braves fans.
Speaker 4 (01:39:19):
That's right, Great America, Hey, great America.
Speaker 8 (01:39:21):
And we're aware.
Speaker 1 (01:39:23):
Let's see I mean games back are you?
Speaker 5 (01:39:25):
That's all right.
Speaker 1 (01:39:26):
I won't go down that road coaching too. And oh,
good job on your win. No, no, no, you got
well we'll come back to the seniors, but good job
on your win. Friday night, Let you talk about that
on the road. You started out with a bang. Coach
said he felt like it was gonna be one thousand
and nothing when you started out fourteen nothing. But they
settled down, made a game out of it. It was
Final twenty one eighteen. Your thoughts being to and oh
(01:39:46):
that game and kind of summarize it.
Speaker 8 (01:39:48):
Hey, Poker's got a good, ridly good football team that
well coached. Yeah, we started off with a bang. We
had a block point for a touchdown. Then we score
quick after that, and again you say, you know they
like you said, they settled down. It was it was
a very very sloppy game, de mark on both sides.
On both sides.
Speaker 12 (01:40:04):
You know what.
Speaker 8 (01:40:05):
We had four turnovers. I think they had two or three.
We were We were fortunate to come out with a
win there. I think our guys played hard all night.
We didn't play particularly good all the time, but we
played hard. I really believe that, and uh, you know,
our defense stood when they had to. But it was
just it was a real sloppy game. And I'm just
proud of the win.
Speaker 21 (01:40:23):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:40:23):
I told the guys I was proud of the win,
but I wasn't proud of the way we performed.
Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
Yeah, you go on the road. That was your first
road game, coach, and that was their first game, and
that was coach Call's first game, first game as a
head coach. So you did have a game under your belt.
But you know, going on the road, you had a
lot going on. And I wasn't able to see in
the pregame what you and your team did for the family.
We were in the gymnasium with a ceremony for coach
(01:40:47):
Tate and coach Johnes. But I understand you did. You
and your team did a lot for the young man
that was that was shot his family.
Speaker 8 (01:40:53):
That's right, you know, so this is a this is
at least got family thing.
Speaker 12 (01:40:57):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:40:57):
I went to a couple of people and you know,
this suggestion, you see, if we could raise little money
for the for the mom and dad and you know,
just the family to you know, if it's nothing, but
buy them a meal or something. And uh, you know,
that thing called on fire. And we had a we
had a couple of people, our upper school principal MSS
Lloyd joined in and uh it made announcements to the
kids and the faculty and they chipped in and we
(01:41:18):
presented the mom and dad with a with a two
three cards from the band and Chileaders and the football teams,
all signs, you know, and present them with a check
and cash and some flowers and you know, got to
hug on love on a little bit. But our least
got family raised forty six hundred dollars for this time.
That's that just shows what kind of people we have
at least got academy. They didn't know these people. I
(01:41:40):
didn't know them, but like I told mom, you know,
high school football in Alabama is a family, and you know,
if we lose one anywhere it is, it hurts everybody.
So we just thought that was a good gesture and
our at least got families came through for him.
Speaker 1 (01:41:55):
One glad I brought it up. I didn't know it
was that what it was. I had no light about
it by one of your players, a couple of players
or something about it. I didn't know. But good job
on that, coach. Before we go to your seniors Childrensburg
this week tomorrow night, Tomorrow night, tomorrow night.
Speaker 8 (01:42:07):
We want to get to make sure get that gets out.
We're gona play tomorrow night at seven o'clock. Everything's the same,
just different night, but it's on Thursday.
Speaker 1 (01:42:12):
All right, talk a little bit about Childsburg for we're
bringing you to seniors. First time you've ever played them, by.
Speaker 8 (01:42:16):
The way, Yeah, first time I've ever seen them, Which.
Speaker 1 (01:42:18):
It'll be that way. And I asked, say that's a statut.
Speaker 8 (01:42:21):
Hey, I was at badlet so you know we may
have played him up there. But anyway, coach Johnson does
a good job here and he is a fantastic guy.
Speaker 12 (01:42:28):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (01:42:29):
You know, I got a chance of meeting. We had
our region meeting back you know, back of last spring
and again the summer. But anyway, he's a really really
nice guy, does a good job. You know, they've been
down a little bit. Uh, but but you know, any
given Friday night, people can win. You know, any team
can beat anybody else if you don't, if you don't
prepare and play well. But they've they they've got a
good bunch of athletic Uh. We got again, we got
(01:42:50):
you know, we canna play everybody. There's probably better athletes
than we are. We just got to play better as
a team and not make mistakes. But he'll have them ready,
you know, tomorrow night. But like I said, they're they're
they're athletic. If you let them get on the edge
and get out in open space, they're gonna be hard
to handle.
Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
All right, you want to bring you too soon them?
Speaker 8 (01:43:08):
Yeah, we got Trip Vaughn here. Trip number ten is
the defensive back. Something y'all may remember in the Excel game.
If you were watching XL broke loose and I thought
it was gone, Here comes number ten out of you know,
nowhere and run him down. So Trip, Trip, what do
you play football?
Speaker 5 (01:43:23):
Two years?
Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
This is my third year?
Speaker 8 (01:43:25):
This is his third year playing football.
Speaker 26 (01:43:27):
Ever.
Speaker 8 (01:43:27):
He came from Trinity and Opelaika played a lot of soccer.
Matter of fact, I find out when he came over.
His mom was a cheerleader at Opelaka. When I was
first there, didn't brown brown called it brown, No, sir,
I didn't know that till they come over to visit
that time. But anyway, Trip's a great, great kid, great player,
and he's just you know, doing nothing getting better. He
(01:43:48):
played football his whole life. He'd probably a prospect right
now again, got that kind of speed and he just
you know, he just absorbed anything to coaches tell him.
And he's doing a great job for us. And then uh,
we got Bank. Sims Banks is number twenty two. He's
a he's a running back, he's a tank. He's also
inside linebacker. That now, hold on, hold on twenty or
twenty two, twenty one, twenty one, twenty one, I'm sorry,
(01:44:10):
twenty one, not twenty either, but no, it was a.
Speaker 1 (01:44:12):
Different one because they were making motions every all right, listen,
I'm old, I'm sorry, I get it.
Speaker 8 (01:44:17):
But again, hard nose kid, great kid. He's been with me.
If I got what, you've been playing for four years
since ninth grade. So does a tremendous job. Again, just
just loves the game. Hard nose just just great, great
kid to coach.
Speaker 1 (01:44:33):
Both of them are all right, we'll talk to you
all right, so Trip, tell us a little bit about
what you think about the star already two and oh
give me what you're thinking. By the way, I do
remember the play he's talking about, Sir, Friday night. I'll
let you talk about that first. For you thinking about hauling,
you just knew you had to catch him. I guess, yes, sir,
I did.
Speaker 21 (01:44:48):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (01:44:49):
He broke loose, and I was like, it's a lot
for Tilnity to I guess shine.
Speaker 1 (01:44:54):
And you shine, sir.
Speaker 8 (01:44:55):
I you, sir, ran him down?
Speaker 13 (01:44:57):
Did that again?
Speaker 1 (01:44:58):
Let's pok it. But I thought I had him.
Speaker 8 (01:45:01):
He was in the end zone.
Speaker 24 (01:45:02):
I was, I was kind of hauling him down and
I tackled him right right there on the pylon and
he got out a little bit. The rest say, but
uh to I know this this year we're playing hard
as a team.
Speaker 21 (01:45:14):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (01:45:14):
This senior class is a good one, loving my buddies,
and like Coach said, we play for each other, you know,
for God, for each other, not for not for our
own fan, not for ourselves, but for each other. And
uh uh we're doing good this year. I'm ready to
play Schuildersberg. Even though the game was moved to tomorrow
out a surprise. I think our preparation will be good
(01:45:36):
this this this week.
Speaker 1 (01:45:37):
Good job, all right, Banks, you good sir? All right?
So you you've been playing like coach hit all four
is just four years? You played three?
Speaker 30 (01:45:45):
You played right, well, I've been I've been playing football
since seventh grade and okay, but four years for coach,
and you've been running back the whole time, sir, all right,
and I'll let you talk about kind of like he
did the game.
Speaker 1 (01:45:55):
I'm gonna let Jeff talk to y'all to to me
what you thought about the game and then being too and.
Speaker 4 (01:45:59):
Well, I'm excited to be to you, sir, and uh.
Speaker 1 (01:46:02):
I think our prepped this week has been good.
Speaker 30 (01:46:04):
And I think last week we played real physical I
like that, yes, sir and uh, and I think I
think it would be a good opportunity show that we
can go three.
Speaker 4 (01:46:14):
And now when did y'all find out that the game
was changed? Till Thursday?
Speaker 1 (01:46:18):
I found out mid day to day so much so.
Speaker 4 (01:46:22):
Y'all started practice right away. So as you found out,
you had to hurry up practice and get it all
the way before tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:46:28):
I inspect they were ready about that, sir.
Speaker 12 (01:46:30):
I was.
Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
I was ready to play. What what ordinarily tomorrow would
be a walk through morning?
Speaker 1 (01:46:35):
I'm gonna say, is tomorrow the five am? So y'all
get to sleep in tomorrow?
Speaker 21 (01:46:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:46:39):
Oh yeah, we can't.
Speaker 4 (01:46:40):
Oh, y'all, Are y'all gonna start a five again?
Speaker 1 (01:46:44):
Coach Daniels said, no, five forty five practice? Okay, starting
at seven? Okay? So all right, so y'all played last year.
What's the biggest difference so far in two games that
you've seen between AI s A and hs A.
Speaker 24 (01:46:54):
You trip the biggest difference. Uh, Honestly, people were saying,
like we're gonna get killed in this. Really everyone everyone's
saying that. But uh, honestly, I don't see much of
a difference. Uh, we're kind of the same team. We
didn't lose a lot of seniors last year. A lot
of a lot of uh seniors this year played last
year as juniors. And uh, I mean we had a
(01:47:17):
couple of good seniors that left. But there's not really
much a big difference. I'd say on your opponents on
the opponent's side, there are any speed difference or anything differences, Yes, sir,
that's what I figured for sure, athletic differences.
Speaker 1 (01:47:29):
I didn't necessarily mean your team. I know y'all are good. Yeah, yes,
I just meant your opponents.
Speaker 4 (01:47:33):
Our opponents.
Speaker 24 (01:47:33):
Yeah, they're they're gonna be more athletic than we are.
But we're a better catch team.
Speaker 30 (01:47:37):
I hear you, sir, Yes, sir, they're a lot faster
difference in there. They can they can break tackles and
make plays, and we just gotta stop doing that.
Speaker 13 (01:47:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:47:47):
I think about a couple of those passes Friday you ago,
they might have been a little different, But you.
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
Can't do it, you think I was just thinking, you know,
I didn't go into the season thinking that everybody's want
to be I didn't either. I just figured out that
y'all have to be in better shape you here because
you're gonna have to play some games off the quarters.
It ain't gonna be a running clock. Everybody on the
bench and gonna play. And that's probably what's been happening.
Speaker 1 (01:48:06):
You've played two games four quarters, right the last three
years combined. You haven't played four quarters until the end.
Speaker 5 (01:48:12):
So yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (01:48:13):
That's a big difference. Have you already eaten almost okay,
right in the middle of it. Well, we'll get you
go back in there. Good to meet you, banks, meet
the trip, Good to see you. Tell your mom hello,
and good lid too tomorrow night, Coach say travels and
appreciate y'all coming out at least got Academy live on
the Coaches Show. Here at Mose Barbecue, presented to you
by the Orthopedic Clinic and Moles Barbecue is gonna take
(01:48:34):
a break, come back spring Wood wild Cat Joey Birch
on deck, and we're back at Moe's Barbecue High School
Coaching Show. D Mark Jeff Jason Lee is our engineer.
Looks Poka football coach Brandon Hall. Good evening coach. Good,
how you doing morning, I'm good. I'm doing man, I'm good.
I'm good. Tell us about your coach you got here introducing?
(01:48:55):
I met him.
Speaker 4 (01:48:55):
My defenseive coordinated with me.
Speaker 1 (01:48:56):
Tell the Stone coach, Tell a Stone coach, Stone, Good
to see you.
Speaker 4 (01:49:00):
I used to be here.
Speaker 5 (01:49:00):
Good to see you guys as well.
Speaker 1 (01:49:02):
Give me a little history on yourself.
Speaker 31 (01:49:04):
Well, I'm born and raised in Alexander City. Got nineteen
years of coaching experience. I coached at Benjamin Russell for
three years, then moved down to the Mobile Area. Was
down in the Mobile Area for twelve years at a
couple of stops there. I was at Alma Brien as
the d C. B C rang for five years at
the head coach. Then I went over to Daphne as
(01:49:25):
an assistant coach, then went to Murphy as a defensive coordinator.
Then God brought me back closer to home. So I've
been at central Phoenix City until b Hall tricked me
to come out here.
Speaker 4 (01:49:33):
And loads of focus.
Speaker 1 (01:49:35):
Allright, So when you were still out here, here, Sir
Williamson High School. They played at stadium. Do they play
at the is it stadium been there? They played at
the stadium. They play it now as it been there.
Wh I saw it this past weekend. My daughter lived
close to well, well, this past this past year. I
think two years ago. That's the new one.
Speaker 31 (01:49:56):
They did the newdium for every high school. That's what
I thought about five years ago until they built thro stadium.
They all played that last That's what I thought. It's
a nice stadium. Anyway, I thought about that.
Speaker 1 (01:50:06):
Coach I and George Jeff and I enjoyed being in
your house the other night. Great ceremony for coach Tape,
Coach Jones, his family. Thank you for the invite.
Speaker 12 (01:50:14):
We loved you.
Speaker 18 (01:50:14):
I'm pretty sure you all coming, man, We loved it.
It was it was nice and we knew a great
job putting on.
Speaker 1 (01:50:21):
He is class. And let me say this, I don't
know it's good.
Speaker 5 (01:50:25):
I got it.
Speaker 1 (01:50:25):
I don't know who was in charge of counting the money,
but y'all had a lot of people at y'all's game.
Speaker 4 (01:50:29):
A lot of people there, man. The community came out.
Speaker 1 (01:50:32):
Make sure both of them, both sides, both sides, both sides.
Speaker 18 (01:50:35):
It's gonna be a good rifery, Coach, it is, man,
it's gonna be a great ribbery.
Speaker 1 (01:50:40):
You came up on the short end.
Speaker 5 (01:50:41):
I'll let you do.
Speaker 1 (01:50:42):
Both of us. Was there, all three of us? Are there?
You coaching it all? But tell us what you thought?
It was so close?
Speaker 18 (01:50:47):
You know, it was a little a lot of mistakes
on both sides of the ball for both teams, and
they capitalized on things that we couldn't capitalize on, and
and just some stuff that we need to clean up.
Speaker 23 (01:50:57):
You know.
Speaker 18 (01:50:58):
It was you go back and watch the film to
play here and to play there with the game could
have went the other way, you know, And and that
that's that's the difference in the ball game.
Speaker 16 (01:51:06):
You know.
Speaker 18 (01:51:06):
We always talk about details and practice and the details
of what kind of kind of beat us, you know,
and we we didn't get fund of one fundament the
finals and things, and and we came up short.
Speaker 1 (01:51:17):
You know, the defensive coordinator right, your defense being a
little bit. They did not break Coach. They made some
key plays late not late, keep plays in the secondary.
Two big interceptions that were huge, you know what I mean.
They didn't break your thoughts on how your defense playing well.
Speaker 31 (01:51:33):
I don't think we played good enough.
Speaker 13 (01:51:36):
Come on.
Speaker 31 (01:51:39):
Great things and some things. You know, first game of
the season, so I think we didn't tackle well enough.
We missed a lot of tackles that allowed them to
extend their drives and you know, one or two of
them that went on head and score. So and then
not only did the second drive you got to rough
in the passer that they extended the driving and the
screen and they go screw the next place. So when
in that halftime, and one thing you want to see
(01:51:59):
as kids take the coach and we made some adjustments,
was able to shut them out in the second half.
So that was a positive. A lot of things we
did good. Lot of things we saw we need to
clean up.
Speaker 1 (01:52:09):
You know what, that's the coach I tell effort was there.
I was, you know, I'm I'm I'm watching the game
from both sides.
Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
You kids didn't give up because that really fast and
really and in a hurry, and it at one point
early in the game it looked.
Speaker 18 (01:52:22):
Like uh ohne in a little thousand zero first game
of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
Everythink, look at it, but you shuttle down, coach, You
did what you needed to do. To get back in
the game. Yeah, I think you went at halftime? Was
it was it the w twenty one twelve, twenty one twelve?
Speaker 4 (01:52:38):
The final?
Speaker 31 (01:52:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:52:39):
So I mean thousand nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
You know, I was taking the same thing I said,
playing ugly. Look, I ain't got the stadium because they overran. Yeah,
they did overrun. They kicked off it and they did
what it was. They scored real quick, got the ball
back and scored and had it and we ain't even
made it through the end zone.
Speaker 1 (01:52:59):
Hold your interception cost it from twenty one? Didn't it
something that got that pick?
Speaker 8 (01:53:05):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (01:53:05):
Really she laid Carstone man monster against the thousand.
Speaker 4 (01:53:13):
It's gonna be a thousand.
Speaker 1 (01:53:14):
But I was like, man, going real easy here anyway, Coach,
it is a beautiful night. I hate you lost, all right,
so let's go on this week. Lynette your second, I
will say they played too that was your first, So
that was different. New coach, new staff. A lot of
news talk about Lynette going to Lynette tomorrow night, tomorrow night.
Speaker 18 (01:53:32):
It tached it down to tomorrow night, trying to be
the storm that's supposed to be coming, and uh play
tomorrow night at six o'clock down the net. We excited
about that. They got athletes all over the field as well.
They got guys who can fly around. They got a
good offensive line, they block well, good quarterback, the receivers,
good skill guys, good defensive back. So it'll be a
good battle for another good test force. Hopefully we can
(01:53:52):
go down and respond, you know, and get back on
the field, because when you lose a football game, the
best thing you can do is go back and compete
against right, you want to be able to go back
and compete and play at a high level and see
how you guys respond to adversity and how they respond
after I lost. So we've been working pretty hard this week.
Were just ready to get back on it.
Speaker 1 (01:54:11):
Yeah, I know you are coaching always safe from what
we talked about this last week, Week one, two, week two.
You believe in that coach getting better?
Speaker 18 (01:54:18):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, after all that stuff happened,
I guess you can get taped bit better for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:54:22):
Yeah, you can get a little bit better. It might
not be a thousand or nothing. Come on, coach, you
gotta get bad yea. Yeah, get better when we wanted to,
I hope.
Speaker 5 (01:54:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:54:32):
All right, So as your kids labor day out of school.
Everybody is all good practice. Every ding practically been solid. Man.
Speaker 4 (01:54:39):

Speaker 5 (01:54:42):
Good day, Tuesday. The day was you know it was.
Speaker 18 (01:54:44):
I think they were ready to get back at it again,
you know what I'm saying. So sometimes days be good,
sometime days be bad. But the weather's been nice so
we've been able to get out there and get out
a little bit, so I think they.
Speaker 1 (01:54:55):
Were ready to rock and roll.
Speaker 18 (01:54:56):
You practiced in the mornings and he no, sir, we
pra we have like four fourth block athletic pier, so
we'll start right there.
Speaker 4 (01:55:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:55:03):
Well, your place is beautiful, coach, you got a great facility.
Appreciate that they are not. Let me tell you something,
hang your hat on that there's not. First off, I
don't care what classification. It's a beautiful place. Appreciated to
be in the one of the smaller classifications. It's got
to be the taj My Hall. Yeah, I know some
for wayte five, a's and six says it don't have
stadiums like that.
Speaker 4 (01:55:21):
So I'm the first one to use them a big time.
Speaker 13 (01:55:27):
I mean, coach was good.
Speaker 1 (01:55:27):

lot of security.
Speaker 12 (01:55:30):

Speaker 1 (01:55:30):

I think I think it's gonna be a good rival.
Speaker 5 (01:55:34):
Yeah you know that.
Speaker 18 (01:55:34):
Shout out to the principal at the people around there.
Man do a great job.
Speaker 13 (01:55:38):
