(00:47):
Jeff sasss with me, Jason Lee'swith me. Band Riggs is in
the house. Another good show aheadof its Jeffer Craigie ready to row bro
Ready what did we have tonight? My grill cheese is now ribbs No no,
had ribbs with cheese and halopeno greets. That's all right, all right,
Southern Prep is in the house, gentlemen, Good evening, good evening,

(01:08):
Sir Coach Bay, how are y'allfeel great? Good? What was
the choice tonight before we get goinghere food shrimp moboy, it's just sippy
mudpie. Okay, here we go, all right, Southern Prep. All
right. We had a tough weeklast week against the number one team in
the country in eight man, afifty two twelve loss to the evangel Christian

(01:30):
of Alabaster. As her, you'regonna play North River Christian this week,
who won thirty four twelve. Lastyear they were wont in one. But
tell us a little bit about lastweek and then we'll move on into to
this week's game at North River Christian. Well, last week, you know,
like I said, we played thenumber one team in the country,
and yes it was fifty two totwelve, but we scored more points against

(01:52):
them than anybody else has this year? Is that right there? Four and
no. So you know that's athat's a hard task them and you just
you take your lumps. But likeI said, we play them every year
as a measuring stick. And uhalso when they come to our place,
Oh that's a money gate. Werethey there this week, coach? Oh?

(02:12):
No, where you were on theray? Okay, yeah, we
were at their place this year. But the deal is there JV coming to
us this year, and that'll bea money gate too, because we tell
them bring a band, bringing cheerleadersand bring a chess club anybody else who
wants to pay to come in.Again, it's a national tournament. There's
two different divisions, right, yes, are they? Are they in the
same division with you or the othertwo? I mean like they are the

(02:35):
five time in a row defending onechampionship and we we won the Division two
championship and we've lost the Division twochampionship game. Okay, so all right,
let's talk about this week's games. We're gonna move on from that negative
last week. All right, Sothis week North River Christian North River Christian
in Northport, which is you know, Tuscaloosa, and they're one and one.

(03:00):
They didn't look good in a win. They look pretty good in the
loss. But they're they got anew coach. They're old school. They're
running the eye formation and uh youknow they're from They're they're trying to power
you and trying to sweep you,and that's you know they got. They
got some reverses and things like thatthey're working with. Defensively, looks like

(03:23):
they're gonna do about the same thingthey did last year. They're just gonna
try to him. You know, our quarterback Kevin Mason's gonna try to hem
him up, not let him run, make him throw the ball. Well,
they didn't learn last year Kevin couldthrow the ball too, because I
think last year Kevin threw for fourtouchdowns on him. But you know we're
gonna do that. Which one's offense, I can't remember. They offense?

(03:43):
You, Yeah, you want totalk about the offense real quick, and
then we'll let him. Yeah.I guess film they haven't really seen anybody.
It runs empty or spreads it outtoo much. So we're gonna see
what they do when we spread itout against them. See what they use.
Are in a full man front andgreat man, you got three month
through down lineman, So it's bea little difficult. That's what they're still
going to do. But even ifthey do do that, they leave their
middle wide open. So hopefully wecan just big passing game be good for

(04:06):
that. Can you assimilate them inpractice? Try to? Yeah, all
right, coach, I'll let youjump over on the other side trying to
defend them. Yeah, okay,So we've made some changes this week.
We've looked at everything. And uh, we've made a few meaningful changes on
defense. I don't want to saytoo much about that, but we have

(04:26):
a personnel moves, yes, yes, and we think that's gonna make a
big difference. We've talked about thatbefore and this person has been a standout
defensively in every game. But we'rejust gonna change the position. Is what's
the key defensive position? And you'reon inn eight moon in your mind?
Well against this team, yeah,I think it's gonna come down to linebackers.

(04:51):
That's where I think it's gonna comedown to. Understand. There you
go, put your best player tomove the field right right, you play
with two lines, two line backof it's gonna be. It's gonna be
two two Okay, all right.Games on the road, okay, yeah,
right, where are they located at? Yeah? Yeah, there ain't
a bad trip, all right,Okay, Southern prel win a game?

(05:13):
Thank you? All right, Goodto see y'all on the road. We're
live at the Coaches Show at Moles, presented to you by the author Pete
Clinic. Jeff and I'll return. We got more coaches lined up. I
we we got alman our coach Keithefforts when we come back, he inspired

(05:38):
thirteen years ago, welcome back,or no, sixteen years ago, welcome
back to Moles Barbecue for the HighSchool Coaches Show presented by the orth Pete
Clint. What we did with ourband Riggs. We wouldn't laugh when he
needs to find somewhere to go,but anyway, appreciate what he does.
Uh? Can we start his allby saying I have a birthday that he
weren't. No, we are,Yes, we can't come. Thank you,

(05:59):
coach, We are done that.Enough of that, Thank you,
coach. Rico Newton, good tosee you tonight. How are you hey?
I'm doing great? How you doing? I'm good right here on the
fifth punk pome Yes, sir,all right, So what's going on in
poker land? Coach? You hadyour good win last week, sir over
the beauty Bobcasts. Huh A closeone fourteen twelve? There you go,
coach, Yeah, fourteen twelve.Yeah, talk to us a little bit.
Mat and b really had a greatteam. You know, they have
a good team. They played verygood football. We had a chance to

(06:21):
go out and play on a footballgame against a great Brewer team. You
know, came out with a win. It was a game though, Yeah,
it was. Any time you canplay win a game is good.
But heck, that was a abarn burner, I guess you could say.
Yeah, it was fourteen twelve, fourth quarter game. You got four
quarter game, it was it cameout down to the end. Yeah,
and uh came down to our defensemaking a stop and getting the ball and

(06:44):
we were there around the clock. All right, Uh rabina this week region
game, right region game. Yougot first region game. But the season
started off. You know, Ialways Greeno was gonna have a good team.
You know, they come in andready to play. Like I tell
our kids, they any given Friday, you know, any team can be
beat. So you gotta be readyto play every Friday. What h what
challenge? Just coach, tell mewhat you see. The main thing is,
you know, just they play goodsmash my football, So we gotta

(07:05):
do line up. You gotta lineup and play smash my football. So
we gotta be physical. You know, we got some kids up front that
I think they can be physical withthem. We just gotta be We gotta
play good football if you physical.Gotta play all three aspects of the game.
Special teams, defense, and offense, gotta come together and play good
football. Uh Rico Newton with us, we're talking latch poke football Indians.
Uh two and oh on the seasonseason? Yeah, good start. You're

(07:27):
eighteen and one all time versus butbeing the coach, yeah, I think
that's what it is. That's gottabe important. But it doesn't really matter
too. Yeah, it doesn't,It doesn't. You know, it doesn't
matter. Like I said, so, they gotta play football. Right,
How have you handled uh the kidsgoing both ways? You said you had
eight? I believe right. Yes, we do many things. Yes,
we got were still conditioning. We'restill conditioning towards that. We still play

(07:48):
up tempo, play fast, andstill conditioning before the kids play both ways.
So you know they call it gladeeight of football. Got a beady
to play both ways? Almost? How long back today? Well, Monday,
Tuesday, hump on your practice. We try to get like an hour
and forty five minutes, fourty fiveminutes. Yeah, show me a drink,

(08:09):
ye, about a hour and fortyfive minutes. That's what we try
to get in able. It's thatinside outside everything. I'm like huge,
I don't know how it does.I don't know how you did that,
but that's outside. That's outside afternoonnight yup, afternoon yep. But like
every year, so what we dowe like on Mondays we go just shorts
and it's like a mix too.So if you go thirty minutes offense,

(08:31):
thirty minute defense, we go aboutan hour and thirty minutes special team thirty
minutes and then Tuesday focus on offensiveand wins focus on defense. But at
the end of each practice we likegive up. It's like an end of
Tuesday practice, it's an offensive day, but the end of the practice we
go, you know, we makeabout fifteen minutes of defense and introduced the
game playing for the week, andthen like on wednesday's all defense. But

(08:52):
at the end we get fifteen minutesto correct mistakes that we made from the
thing before. And on Thursday it'sjust like uh, Thursdays it's an hour
practice is doing seven period which youknow a craxiality and that them kids go
home when the bus go home, have to pace it. Yep. To
put it in you do a lotof water breaks, a lot of water
breaks. So that's anything if youhad they've handled it pretty well, like
they're handing pretty well, hand topretty well. You know, knock on

(09:13):
Wood haven't had no big issues withcramps, you know. I I see
kids in the hallways. Been aweek drinking gallons of water and just put
into the water found and refilling up. So that's a good thing. Okay,
what about obviously you had no injuries. I know some things that have
that are here. But you can'tafford to losing. Nobody can't lose.
Nobody can, but certainly you can't. No, I can't. I tell

(09:33):
our kids. Man, you gottabe on this let right here. You
gotta be athletes. You can't specifyin one position because at any time you
might go into any positions. Weneed athletes in the field. Yeah,
you're right, Rico Newton Woods fortalking lot poker. You're going on the
road this week, Country, Iknow we're at home at home coming in
sting your night together. Because allright, so how so early you got
a raging games coming up. They'regetting ready to renovate our field. So

(09:54):
this is all right, it's alllast and only home game. They're gonna
putting new led light seeing the greatbut a track they give me to pull
up sixteen stall bathroom with a concessionstand all right, coach Jeff, So
where will you play? Year agame? So we got a mixture of
between you Burrow Garden and Tripe andBullah. Some games to be at Bureau
guard, some games to get goodfor you, coach, to work that

(10:16):
out. Do you know, willyou send me an updated list show the
kids? You guys start with Yeah, Coach new It's always good to see
you, Mane. Thank you allfor the support. Thank you, buddy,
keep it up too. I gota chance come out Friday. Yeah,
you'd beat three and oh at Polka. Yes every time. Right.
Rico Newton in the house from LochaPoka from The Coaches Show at Modes.
Now we'll go to Alburn High Keithats Wich. I called him out to

(10:37):
order Walla go. We'll have himwhen we come back at Most Party Q.
The Coaches Show presented to you byour good friends at the the Beat
the Clinic, Jeff and I andLee Jason will be right back. Welcome

(10:58):
back to Most Barbecue, DMark andJeff and Jason. I'm not gonna clude
band. He's causing disruption here atMost Barbecue. The High School Coaches Show
continues. We turned our ten heleft, I went to go get some
dat coach, forget you, it'stime to eat. Hey, I'd rather
meet yeah, let him go.Coach to Keith Etheridge in the house from

(11:18):
Alburn High. Coach, nice tosee you in your family tonight, sir,
coach boy. I'll tell you whatnow. I had a hard time
Friday. I had one of mygod children playing for Enterprise. I got
you and Mayor over there at Auburnand I'm thinking, man, I got
a split split a house here, and but I was glad to see my
godson win. But I hated itfor you. But it was seventeen sixteen,

(11:39):
Last second kick, Coach, EnterpriseBeach. You talk about that game
a little bit. Uh, youknow, we just turned the ball over,
you know, just four four turnovers, three of them ended up points.
That's kind of how they scored theirpoints. You know, held them
to a one hundred and thirty oneyards and told law offense, you know,
defensive believe we played great. Youknow, just turn the ball over.

(12:01):
They were covering the funnel before touchdown. They intercepted one, took it
down inside the five, you know, and then uh, we turned it
over right there with about two minutesleft, and he scored and got it
called. It would have helped us. You know, I wouldn't even called
it back. You know what Itold I was standing next to mayor coach
when it had I said, that'sgonna hurt you there on that place.
What you mean? I said, were gonna meet to the clock and kick

(12:22):
it with no time? And reallywe we stuffed him. You did three
tried to use the timeouts, tryto save some time, but just didn't
have enough. You know, yougot three town nights. There's only two
minutes left. You know, it'snot enough time. I had two timeouts.
I gotta give him in a prosecredit they did. You know,

(12:43):
their defense played great. You knowI think we had I think we only
had like two hundred and sixty eightyards stole offense, you know, and
we we've been playing pretty good offense. Yeah, yeah, but it is
You also lost your quarterback the othernight. Yeah, tough night. Yeah.
I had a little broke his collarbone. Lay the whole half of the
third order and the rest of thefourth quarter. We wrote Colorado. Yeah,

(13:03):
we thought it was Ac and hetook a lick on that interception too.
Coach, and I was right therein their bright He took a hard
lick on that play. Yeah,he took a lick right there. He's
run one, he's going out ofbounds, and kid gave him shove and
he went over into the wall ofI remember the play, Yeah over on
the thing business side, I believe, wasn't it business side? Yeah?
Yeah, well a lot a lotof questionable costs in its fiscal game.

(13:26):
Kind of I kind of felt likeI was on the road. Yeah,
you got you had one of yourand I think coach Blatman even told you
had one of your players, oneof the players and pretty much decapitate one
of years on, I mean literallybut and then but the bad part coaches,
I think he got it right. But you had a player that got
upset, which is understandable, andI think they kind of got confused in
that. Well he should have beenejected, you know, for for the

(13:48):
target. I don't know, youdon't have it the kids? Yeah have
target? What do you okay?Thinking? Okay, thank you, thank
you. Defenseless players defensive player.Kid was defenseless as he could be,
looking up at the ball, lookingup to a fun kid just run right
through it. But you know theycalled running into the running into the No,
he called it hit ki ki kickcatching. I don't see how you

(14:11):
call that, you know, Imean kick catching interference when you actually run
into catch in thank you and Iwere talking Saturday when one happened and you
went, that's that's a kick catch. Yeah, just to it. But
it was. It was a tough, yeah it was. But you know
we had plenty of opportunities. Youknow, we just didn't didn't make plays
when we need to defense when weplayed great. Yeah they did, they

(14:31):
did. They We got a toughtask on our hands this week. We
got to do and which is alwaystough. Talk about planning doth and they're
undefeated that guy, Yes, coachKennedy's done a good job. Yes,
and if I'm not mistaken, youput them out right here. Yeah last
year and yeah, yeah, Iwas at that game. So you know,
we had a really good you know, uh, they got a really
good team. You know, theyrun that single wing, the double handoff

(14:54):
stuff. You know, all misseda lot of misdirection stuff and he does
a really good job with it.You know, so we got to come
prepare. Now, how was yourteam bounced back? We'll be fine.
You know, our our kids arereally resilient. Like I said the other
night, you know, they didn'tdrop their head. They played their guts
out, got down fourteen nothing firstwith about three minutes left, you know,

(15:16):
or three or four, about aboutfive and a half left. I
think it was clean. And thenwe stopped them, you know, got
the ball back, you know, just turned it over with about two and
a half minutes left. So youknow, I just think that if I
had to do it over again,we probably run the ball right there.
And defense because her defensive play sogood, and usually I do I usually

(15:41):
I'll pay attention to the flow ofthe game. If we're playing really good
defensively, you know, we'll getplace. And we were, you know,
and uh, but you know,I think we had the perfect play.
Coach he was old, you didn'tknow it's calling. Stroke didn't know
that. I could say you couldas as Bear Bryant told that report.
I was trying to win the game. You and coach y'all were trying to

(16:02):
win the game. Look they seewhat. I'm always gonna go for the
win in my whole career. I'mnot going. I'm not going. I'm
coming, and I don't really haveto do this. But after the game,
I was by your huddle and thefirst thing you told your kids this
game's on me. And I saidto myself, now that's a real deal
right there. And you said thisgame's on me. I didn't have you
ready to play and will work onthat Sunday, and I went, wow,

(16:25):
you know, you just had fourturnovers. And I was sitting there
going okay, So I think, right there you put it. You know,
you set the tongue. Now youwent through it and talked about things
after that. But yeah, youtook that responsibility and you I think how
I like how you handled that. Not that you need me to say that,
right right, Yeah, I justand it was on this Yeah,
I'm still in the kids truth. You know. Well, yeah, they

(16:45):
played good enough to win that game. Uh offensively. I don't think we
just heard to win. I thinkthat I think that they played good,
good great. If they played there, they played on coach has made a
big difference there. Those kids playedhard. They you know, an our
kids played hard, and it's ashame somebody's got to lose that game,
right, but they you know, they came in, they were really physical,

(17:06):
were especially the first quarter. Theywere really physical first quarter, you
know, and I think that alot to do with it, you know,
I think that we settled in afterthat first corner and started playing football.
Coach physical too, and I thinkthat, you know, if I
think that, uh, you know, hopefully we'll get into the shot at
and play. Yes, if wegotta make it there. I don't know,

(17:26):
Coach how this reason is, butthere's a whole lot of football for
everybody, everybody to play, youknow what I mean? So absolutely,
but we gotta play like our backstains one. Yeah, coach, good
to see you, Thank you'a goodto see your family. And I understand
Smiley got into game say I'm proudasolutely all right, that's feel good and
and and and this man, allright, We're gonna come back Russell County

(17:48):
the Warriors from the Coaches Show, presented by the orthoped Dependant. When we
come back to mos Coaches Show comingto your life from Most Original Barbecue,

(18:10):
brought to you by the Oor PeterClinic Most Original Barbecue. Up next is
or Russell count Yes, Sir,coach and Cambriere Cambrie. I'm sorry I
always say Uncumber Cambrie Williams. Coach, it is good to see you tonight.
Good to see you guys. Allright, hold on real quick,
I mean, how long have youcoached? First year? Okay, first
year? Look at you right here, fresh fresh out? So what's it
like a beautiful thing to give itback to the kids. I played professionally

(18:33):
for about seven eight What did youplay for playing in the Canadian football He's
retired. So I got on board. Uh in last December. I did
a spring with the team, andnow this is my my first year.
All right, do you like coaching? Love it? Love it? I
love the game so good, youknow, Uh, coach, I'm pointing.
I hate with coach. Oh mygosh, I drawn a blank from
Auburn Nick coaching the Canadians. Youcame up to its one. We're eating

(18:59):
lunch. I have, oh hisname coach star University and went to defensive
coordinator, went to the pros.Uh won the whole thing. I'm gonna
find his name before because I'm wastingyour airtime, but I gotta get his
name. No wing. Well, but anyway, all right, so Russell
County seat that you were opened lastweek didn't play, Uh, so talk
coach Griggs was fired up last weekwasn't eat yet if I mean it feel
good about his team? Yeah, yeah, so I'm sure you do too.

(19:22):
But this week, uh stand up, Elmo stand hope all right?
They were one in one. Theylost forty five twenty one last year to
you guys, or y'all lost forwe lost. He lost there you go,
all right, so tell me aboutstand up. You know y'all never
beat stand up. Oh in fifteen, I know, I know that it
doesn't matter about this year though, exactly exactly a great team. Uh they
start fast and uh run the ballpretty well about uh eighty eighty percent of

(19:45):
the time, so we gotta stopthe runing. I know they're gonna watch
that Week one film against Harris Countyand see we gave up three hundred plus.
So that's one of the focused pointswe were going into this week,
Russiano coach, So yeah, so, uh we we gave up that and
and so that's ah with me beingon a different out of the ball,
we took that personal. So thisweekend with that by weekend, with this
week going on, we took aperson to get back to the the fundamentals

(20:06):
and let stop his uh let stophis rowing. So are they big coach,
not very big team, not verybig team. Uh, we feel
like we have the advantage with speedwise so that our athletic ability, uh,
show us works. Okay, we'retalking Russell County football. Let's see
well now, Okay, they wereopen last week, lost and open and
play Stanhope. Uh, Stanhope asat A they're one and one. Who

(20:32):
they played last week? Yeah? You follow? You followed? There you
go, you follow. Lost atough game in the openers, So how's
your week's guys handled the open week? And I'm sure they're ready to play
because it's been fourteen days and Ithink that was all a part of the
plan before we get into region play. Let's get the guys back to the
fundamentals and and take advantage of hisbye week. And uh, I think
they're hungry and we're ready to puton the show Friday, first home game

(20:53):
of the season. So yeah,y'all tend to play pretty good at home.
Co Yeah, y'all have done alot of improvements to the state.
Did she scored twenty seven points inthe open up? But go ahead,
Jeff No obviously say on them likeFriday night favor or whatever. Channel nine.
They always show y'all fail with thedrone. Yeah, yeah, but
you were close in the first game. Will that help? Do you think
get over the I think so.I think so. And we scored two

(21:15):
of those those touchdounds on the defenseside of the ball. Okay, okay,
Like I said, rist kind Imean, Harris kind of kind of
exposed us to the run and wemake some adjustments and when we really go
out and fight. Sometimes you saidyou had a fast team, right,
Sometimes I found out with speed rightat it's the weeks spot exactly. You
know you should you start shaking headwhen I said that, I don't know.
I guess it's I don't know.But side to side you can't.

(21:37):
They got you, but you can'tget a field wide enough. Sometimes that
speed right at him, that gatesit exactly. And that sounds like kind
of what y'all kind of got into, right, What about offensively real quick
en off. We have a RobertCalhoun, he's our senior leader at quarterback.
We love the guy. I thinkhe's gonna put as far as the
point, we have great sophomore Divisionone players on that. Yeah, he
mentioned that he mentioned that he beingcoach. Exeah, yeah, and so

(22:00):
young guys, but they're they're hungryand ready to make a splash in the
area right now. The y'all ishe d a threat run it, throw
it, like to run it morefolk, you know. Uh, he's
a due. He could use hislegs track guy so he can. But
we we we wanted to throw theball here you go. We wanted to
throw the ball in it and uhexpose defense to going down to cause we
have some weapons. So we justwant to Uh, this is a reaching

(22:21):
game high like, oh yeah,it's all that starts right here. Coach,
you gotta have it, like yousaid, you got three in a
row. I know, good tomeet you, good, nice to see
you. With spect to see heresoon. Okaya home open Russell County and
Seal this weekend seven o'clock against theMustangs of stan Hope, Elm Moreland the
Valley Rams. When we come backto the to the Orthopedic Clinic coaching show

(22:42):
at Moles Barbecue, I'm almost welcomeback. Welcome back to Moles Barbecue.
I'm d Mark, How'm Jeff sizefrom there you go and you are I'm

(23:03):
David Strickland. He had to lookat his phone. Just had to check
that. Coach, he went,Oh, he looked down to this phone,
and I'm David Strickland, Coach Stricklandfrom the Valley Rams. How are
you. I'm good, you know, yeah, it's always good to start
with a joke, you know,it's right. Yeah, Hey, congrats
on the win. First off,Coach Hunter's not feeling good, and I

(23:25):
hope he gets the feeling better. That's right, he's he's had a long
weekness. Let me tease him. This is the first time since the last
time he missed, which I don'tknow how long that he wouldn't he's always
who know, he's first, he'sgood about He's good. He has missed
before. That's what I said.If he has missed, it would have
been the first one. I said. I don't recall other than this time.
I don't either. I don't thinkhe has. But anyway, I

(23:45):
love me some Adam Hunter, andI hope he feels better. All right,
But we're glad to have you coachwith us, and we're glad to
talk about y'all's win last week.We love the nette too, but I
understand that rivalry. Being from aroundhere. I call it the twelve tag
rivalry, Valley the net, andit's a little difference in size. We
all know that, but don't tellthem kids that that's right right Lynette,
I mean, Lynette's kint a goodprogram over there. And those guys,

(24:07):
I mean from their side to ourside, I mean, they're gonna be
excited to play each other. Beingin the same town a lot there's kids
know each other, grew up aroundeach other, and you know, it's
it's just another level when you playyour rival, and you know there's a
lot of excitement that comes about.Yep, and you got the win,
uh forty when I had it righthere and I lost it here for thirty
one fourteen and Witt forty one fourteen, I had it right first time.

(24:30):
There You go, all right,so you wanted one on the season region,
Well, you want any more commentson last week? Anybody want to
bring up right? Well, yeah, I mean Lynette was an obviously a
good opponent coming in. I thinkoffensively, we did a lot better job
of building from week one to weektwo. Cam Dooley, or our Missouri
commit, had a really big game, scoring four times twice through the air

(24:51):
and also twice on the ground hada touchdown past to Brandon Thomas and Ian
krim Davis. Jay Harper or Wisconsincommit had a lot of receptions as well.
But you know, offensively, hejust said to you, good day
for due was come, I meanWisconsin and Missouri Missouri quarterbacks, jams a
quarterback, that's right. And thenthe other young man is uh Jay Harper's

(25:15):
the Wisconsin commit is that uh Marshawns. He should have known that. Okay,
all right, well that's pretty good, coach, You're right. All
right, let's move on this week. Region time. The Hornets two and
oh it's down here in Borregoard twoand yep, we're on the road first
time, first time this year.Okay, talk about the Vatter I mean
Valley coming to Borgoard. They're twoand oh. They've got a good team.

(25:37):
Coach, they do. I'm inthe coaches down there. They do
a good job. They're a verygood team. You know. Last year.
There'll be a very good, verygood team this year, very well
coached, very very fundamentally sound. It'll be it'll be tough. I think
we match up pretty well though, but we're gonna have to We're gonna have
to dominate and went on all threephases of the game, you know,
offense, defense, and special teams. But they're a good team. But

(26:00):
like I said, I think wematch up pretty well these guys. All
right, coach, and we askyou this. We talked to Coach Hunter
about how has your special team hasbeen punting and kicking. I know we've
had a few issues in the past, not calling out kids or nothing,
just things have happened. Has itbeen in the last two games, it's
gotten better? You know. Puttingwise, we have a C. J.
Chambler who's our punter. He puntedlast year, does a really good

(26:21):
job and he's learned a lot.Now when I say that, I think
he had some protection issues, somesnap issues. So I'm not meaning yeah,
yeah, he's done a good job. Well yeah, uh, you
know long snapping this year we havea different guy, which is his brother.
That's what he told us. Hisbrother's a long snapper and protection has
been pretty good this It might breakdown a fight sometimes and I'm just he
probably stays on good. So he'sdone a good job, you know.

(26:45):
Kicking wise, we've got to cleanup a little bit, you know,
kick off wise. Last week wewe went down and didn't have a great
coverage. But we've been able tofix some stuff and have some good reps
to get better on this on thison special team side. Yeah, I
knew he had been talking about thata little bit. Just overall, I'll
cleaning up. Yeah, it's it'sgotten better. Yeah, bullgard. Uh,
they bring a lot of problems toyou coach offensively. They got a

(27:07):
quarterback I don't know much about. This is first academy. Yeah, he's
a good athlete. He does agood job. And like I said,
they're those guys are well coached downthere. But like I said, if
we can you know, offensively,if we can take care of the ball
and you know, win some fieldposition while we're uh, you know,
going throughout the game, we'll findourselves in the fourth quarter with a chance
to win. Y'all had a goodweek so far. We've had a really
good week. Like I said, today we wrap up. We all walked

(27:30):
through early in the morning. Good, those guys off their feet and love
it. You know, be timeto go down there and try to beat
the hornets. You know. Well, I love that kind I don't I
don't believe in I'm not a coach, but I understand that the kids rest
there in the year and you knowthe thing got it now, coached me.
You may have to work on afew things, but anyway, it's
good to see you think you startbeing here, Like you said anytime,
Coach Trickman, appreciate it. Gotit. Valley Rams on the road at

(27:53):
Hornet Land against the Guard. Youcan hear that game on our sister station
one hundred point nine. But BullSteve Wheeler and his crew on our Heart
Radio will come back. Take abreak from Moles on the Orthopedic Clinic High
School Coaches Show, The Bula Bobcatscoming your way. Welcome back to the

(28:22):
High School Coaches Show. We're comingto you line from Mole's Original Barbecue and
it's brought to you by the OrthopedicClinic. Mole's Original Barbecue Coach Matt Johnson,
Bula High School is our next guest. Good affinue coach. How doing
doing well? Doing well? Yeah? Uh, let's see uh last weekend
yep, Uh tough one load loadsfocus. Uh you're onety one. That's
right load focus. That's a countyrivalry, that's right loaded down. They

(28:45):
got a lot of athletes tell youwhat that uh that defensive line for them
is uh they're tough and they're they'reuh they they were, they were they
overwhelmed us. Let's put that ways. That's a good way to describe it.
They just they overwhelmed us. Youknow, we get defensively, we
played a great game. We giveup one offensive touchdown. We had the

(29:07):
ball on the as about as closeas you can to the goal line is
there could possibly be on on firstdown, and uh we just had some
mixcuse mistakes backed us up, didn'tcapitalize. That was the name of the
game. We made mistakes. Imean, everybody made mistakes in that game,
but the timing of them and justhow big they were that was kind
of the name of the game.Because offensively, nobody was really doing a
whole lot as a defensive strug offensivestruggle, defensive h you know, just

(29:30):
type of game. And uh theteam that that made the most mistakes,
which was us, you know weuh we didn't uh we we had we
had tough time with them. Sospecial teams pat s is that was that
issue you uh we uh especially teamsat four. You know, our specially
was pretty solid except for uh weuh on a punt return. We uh
we tried to get away from itand one of our guys hit it and

(29:52):
they recovered it, and uh anduh they they ended up that's the time
they scored one of the office stuff. It was just whatever went wrong,
we were it was just timing. So okay, well that game's not a
region game. You can you justmove on it this week. You got
sacks we do yep ohe and two. But they're you know, they're they
got they got a long way totravel. Uh so we're we're we're proud
of that. We went there lastyear and it's it's a trip now.

(30:15):
Uh and uh they got they whatthey got. They got some speed,
they're they're athletic. They have ahuge quarterback. He's about six four,
uh two thirty two forty. He'sa big kid. He's big. So
we got a we got a gametackle him. There's no one one guy
gonna bring him down. But uhuh, you know they they've they struggled
a little bit, but they playedsome good teams. If Sylvania hatchie up,

(30:37):
those guys are those are those aresome good teams. So you look
at film and you can just youknow, when when they're getting you know,
beat or they're struggling a little bit. You gotta take in the consideration
who they're playing m Yeah, absolutely, so you've only played him once before
this in your history, right, yep. This will be the second new
region UH came out and we wegot them along. We know Walter Welbourne,
we were up there. So uhhopefully this this next UH region of

(31:02):
re alignment, we can we playeda little bit closer because that'll kill you
budget. Yeah, that that traveledbecause we're we're taking three busses and you
talk about two and a half hoursaway. That's that's a lot. So
yeah, coach is good to see. I'm sorry I'll stepped away when you
came up, but I wanted tomake sure I know you talked about the
tough loss last week, give yourkids, and then I missed some of
you think we bounced back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's been a

(31:22):
good week of practice. I'll tellyou what. Our Monday and Tuesday pract
that's what some of the best Mondayand Tuesday practices we've had. That's some
good senior leadership right there. Wehave we got fourteen seniors and just pulled
together and uh We've had some broodpractices this week, so it was it
was good to see us bounce back. That's why I told him, you
know, we got we flushed thatgame. Moving on reread game, it's
where our goals are intact. Uh, playoffs are intact. So they are

(31:47):
that's what we're going with. Tellme, what was there a good gate
last week? Coach? Yeah onour side, our side, yeah,
we were packed out. We hadit was actually senior night, so we
got that had that early. Butuh, well yeah that I'll tell you
what if you have had into aview of the game. But they're fun.
Uh, the community comes out andit's it's a good atmosphere and I'm
very fat out there. It's it'sfun now, it's it's great. It's

(32:08):
a good, good atmosphere. Doyou feel like your kids are getting better?
Coach? Absolutely, absolutely like that. We are. We you know,
we still pushing, still pushing hardin the weight room. Uh.
You know, we we had ayou have a new conditioning coach, right,
coach, coach Rust Jarnett, andhe's pushing these guys and uh,
we're doing whatever we can to uhto to improve our strength conditioning program and

(32:32):
we're we're making a lot of changesand he's doing a great job. I'll
say this, coach, you giveup twelve points to have a rom fourteen
to poke you playing good defense?Defense is there? This is there?
We got pubs got some speed now, I mean, come on, tell
and I said this earlier that that'stheir defensive front is probably one of the
toughest that well, I hope it'sthe boast that you know, the toughest
that we face. I'll tell youthat they were rough. They that ain't

(32:54):
bad, you know, but youknow, look at our defense. Coach
coursings our because a coordinator. Hedid an amazing throughout the whole season.
Uh, we're getting guys to theball and when we get there, they're
mad when they get there. We'revery physical and that's something that's kind of
changed over the past couple of years. That's that's with again having a strength
condition. But I was gonna say, coach will cause you to get a

(33:15):
little kids when he gets me andyou look like you can play football.
You're playing football. You're right,You're right on that. That's good to
hear. Coach. You got along season to go. It starts here.
You're talking about the reaging game.Every game's important, and that's it.
Sure is important. I'm sure yourkids understand that that's right. They
do. They know that that's youknow, that's our our goals make playoffs
and how do you do that? You gotta win your reaching games and it
starts Friday night. Before we leaveis forty seconds. Tell me a little
bit about your JB's and your middleschool June however y'all referred to. Yeah,

(33:37):
well they play real Town last nightand real Town is they're real.
Yeah, I hear they got theygot a good group. So, yeah,
we lost last night, but itwas, you know, tough game.
But coach Lamb's out there with himand he's you know that they got
a good practice today. I sawhim at their practice and then they they're
continuing to get better. Thank you, Coach Johnson. So thank y'all appreciate
you all the ful of bobcats inthe house. They're one and one hoping

(33:59):
to win a reach a game. We're gonna come back. We're gonna talk

to him listening. I'm more importantheres right now? You to him?
I got Connor Stewart here tonight.Connor's been with me for three years?
Oh is he the third? Threeyears? No? No, No,

(35:06):
three guys are four three years.Yeah, he's been. He's been in
three years. But he's better knownas beef Beat. You know, nobody
know him. Is connort meat? But it's beat. No, it ain't
meat. This beat got it confusedso but uh, yeah, he's a
he's a starting center, plays alot on defensive line. More important as
a starting center. Fine young manworks hard. We won't get into what
happened on Monday, but we're talkingabout that off the radio. But anyway,

(35:28):
nothing bad. But uh yeah,he's he's fine young man. Lad.
He's here with us to night, and uh, he's doing a good
job for us. We're gonna we'regonna get to him. Okay, chill
out, Connor, we'll get youin. Just sick. We're gonna get
to Hi. I know this weekhe talked to us. Was it this
morning? Yes? Uh, twotuesdays coadays coaches Brooks, Brooks, Zachary,
Uh, Braxton. Uh, allof these guys got touchdown. So
well Brooks didn't get one, butBraxton got one, and uh and and

(35:51):
banks Siam's got two. I think, Yeah, Tyler Kennedy had one.
J J had two. You're gonnamake me tell a live because I can't
remember all of the top of myhead. Yeah you do, but yeah
the young guys somebody else had too. Yeah, you're thinking better in the
morning than you're you know, wellI do. Yeah, he's like all
of us he's fresh and I'm freshin the morning. So yeah, I
also had cheat she Tuesday morning. We talked about him two. Now Connor
who Connor? Who scored a touchdowns? H? You didn't I know?

(36:14):
No? U? I t JJscored two? Uh? Tyler Tyler?
I saw Brooks scored a couple brothers. Brooks didn't score one? On what
about Sam scored? Sam sc two? Two? And you had? Uh?
Did Marcu Scrashton Baston right scored scoreone? What or two? I
can't I care? There you gothinkna, babe me tell a lot.

(36:35):
Did j score one? M JJscored two? JJ did scored? Yes?
Yeah, all right, So tellwhat position you I know, but
tellyboy, what your center? Sendit? And nose guard a little bit
of nose guards. And you've beenstarting three years, yes, sir,
all right, So tell me whatyou think about your team. You're two
and oh you had a big winlast week, you got Morgan this week.
You've started three years, you playedon the semi final team championship team

(36:57):
last year and you're two and oh, yes, sir, tell me about
it. We've been having Uh,we had a pretty good week of practice
this week. Uh, last weekwas pretty good too. Uh, it
was a good game last week whichgot us in the role for this week
and hopefully next week if we winthis or we should win this week,
good and hopefully it'll keep us ona role for Glmwood next week and then

(37:19):
making ease after that and hopefully forthe rest of the season. So,
Mike, Timmy, is everybody thereMonday on time? Uh? Oh,
Monday Labor Day? Yeah, sir? Everything okay? So everybody was on
time? I think, oh,seven seven o'clock. What about my man
two five? Right? There washe? Here? He was? He
was on funda was okay? Allright? So I know you coach gonna

(37:40):
get mad at me, but itobviously looks like it's gonna be young Globood
again. You gotta win the restof him. But are you you gotta
take him one at a time?Right? Have y'all looked forward? Sir?
There you go? Good answer tocheck that box. There you go.
Were focus on what we got rightnow? And all right, So
tell me what you gotta get betterin? Uh? Special teams are good?
I say, our old line hasto uh get better. Y'all gotta

(38:02):
get better, sir. Who's gotto get better all of us. Who
is everybody's making a stop him out? Tell me, I mean not saying
they did. No, I don'tmean that. Named it Jackson Jackson League
better Jackson, Callie Max Shiver,Redd's names our left tackle wood all right,

(38:30):
all got to get better, yes, sir, anybody else backfield?
I tell you gotta get better.Uh, they're all doing a pretty good
job. Cause I'm focused on usright now. That's not that's not me
back there. Okay, he's didgood. Coach, he did good?
Good? Yeah, what about thecoach? How's he taking? I feel
good? I feel good. Youknow. We made a big improvement of
the first game the second game.We just got to improve every week.

(38:52):
You got to get us better. And I don't worry about who we play.
We got to take care of us. You know. I'll talk to
JJ a little bit. And Isaw his comments in the paper about y'all
wanted to run the ball last week, and you did that a lot.
Yep, it pretty dog gone good. I didn't realize that before the game,
but I suddenly did afterwards. Youmade a point to do that.
Oh yeah, yeah, Like Isaid, you know, I'm a I'm
old line I'm not talking about that. I want to run a football,

(39:13):
and we did a good job theother night. Now, the weather play
a little bit part of that. But if I'm running the ball and were
running the ball and having success,we're not gonna put an air. You
don't have to blame you're run.So you know, we we got a
good running game, and we gotwe're gonna focus. If we're gonna trying
to throw the ball a little more, I'll go ahead put that out.
Yeah, you're gonna need to dothat down the road. We're gonna need
it. So we're gonna work onthat this week. And they try to
get the ball at a little bitmore with our receivers. And I don't

(39:34):
think I've said this though. Weran the clock second half, so I
don't even think we've said that.So that's you mentioned your snaps thirty eight.
Well you didn't have a full secondhalf, so that's a little yeah.
And then you know Monro had alittle to do with that too.
They kept the couple of time.I told you last week that I was
worried about them running ball straight outof say and then if we couldn't stop
that, it was gonna be along game. But you know, our
defense stepped up, did a greatjob, made him go sideline the sideline,

(39:57):
which you know we were okay therewith our speed, but I was
really worried about that. We dida good job on that side of the
ball. What do you think yougotta getting better with him? It's moving
forward? Well right there? ThrowWe had a turnover thither night you did.
That's right, we got a breakon a call you did. But
you know we say cut for himthough he worked from he's good well and
listen and he needed a purpose. He told me we we gotta take care
of the football. You know,we talked about it. We got a

(40:19):
bead running the ball, stop therun and take care of the football.
And we had a lot of badpenalties. Now we had some guys pay
the price this week for those, but we gotta cut out all penalties.
You know, we jump off sidethe very first player of the game.
Yeah, and you know gave himfirst and five. You know, I
don't care who you are. That'sthat's not good odds when need playing the
football team. But uh, butwe did that. We got to clean
up our our penalties. Two fivebeen playing hard and hadn't played hard doing

(40:40):
good job. Proud of him thefirst year Walker Fisher. Yeah, I'm
sorry. Walker's here. Wills nighttoo. I call him Fish. He
works good at too, all right, Coach Daniel two and oh good luck
Friday night. Third game in therow at just Scott Field. And before
we go on the road. Soon the road, Connor, great job,
appreciate all right, thank you.We had to coach a show.
It was presented by the Orthopedic Clinic, Lynette. When we come back right

(41:02):
after this break, welcome back tothe high School Coaching Show. We're coming
to your line from Mole's Original Barbecue, and it was brought to you by
the Orthopedic Clinic. Moles Fox forcethe game and kicker well on all of'em

(41:28):
right, Coach McDonald's offense coordinated Lynette, Coach Kitchens the line. Coach Sir
at Lenette last week rivalry game.Yeah, bigger school they were. You
want you want to talk about thatbriefly and then we'll move on. Yeh
offensively, you know, Uh kindof came out and uh start her s
something afoot a little bit there,Uh start off a game, had a
had a third I ain't gonna saysix inches, I'm gonna say two inches

(41:52):
jump and uh, it just kindof set the tone for us there in
the first quarter, got down thirteenand nothing, kids fault, though,
kids fault, got back to Ithink it was like eighteen to seven and
maybe eighteen fourteen or something like that. It's nineteen seven. Then uh,
a half time it was twenty sevento fourteen, twenty seven fourteen possession right
there at it kids fault, Man, they fall. They fought very hard,

(42:14):
and you know, like you saidthat, the depth part plays a
little bit of a factor in there. Absolutely, Man, we just had
a couple of really really bad specialteams uncharacteristic special teams stakes. Well,
you know we put that that it'snot a region game, it's just a
rivalry game. Move on, we'regoing into we got a horsie band.
Are you hosting? Uh? Weare? We are. We're hosting a

(42:36):
horsie band. They're on one.Uh y'all are sixteen and one all time
against horsie band. I don't itdon't matter much this week, No,
I know, but I'm trying toremember when that lost. Remember that I
think it was two man? Therehe goes, yeah, horse you been
made the playoffs. Oh you knowwhat. Okay, they were a good

(42:58):
team that year. Good for youat you was that? Uh? Uh
uh uh? I think for yousales if you sale and you say that,
yeah, yeah there you go.All right? What tell us about
a horse you been hors you being? Uh? As far as officer,
just old school. Uh, runmultiple offenses, but mainly stick with that
wishbone type. Look, got avery good athlete running back. Was their
last year. I believe a lotI saw as well. Just same thing,

(43:21):
different week. Just run to theball, get off the blocks,
make plays, They run the wishbone. They run it well, they get
a pretty good job with it,Yes, sir, Yeah, like I
said, they played one game. They played widely. Uh. I think
the school was kind of out ofhand. But you know they they gonna
to me, it's typical horse youbend. Even the years when I was
there years ago. It's the same, the same type stuff, the same
coaches. How do you pay up? Most offenses you run are gonna run

(43:44):
something similar. Yeah, they're gonnaspread it out a little bit. They're
gonna they will run the football, but they're gonna throw it. And then
you go to it. You gottadefended team that runs a wishbone, right,
but they do have like that twotips. They run a little mesh
route dragons and kind of just getyou kind of the backers kind of confused
and uh hit the open guy,and you know se four man front,
uh three three man front, Yes, sir, yes, sir. Yeah,
I'll tell you this though, youknow, offensively for us, you

(44:06):
know, defensively, they do prettymuch the same thing they did last year.
Got a couple of two pretty bigkids in the middle, kind of
you know, semi athletic as well. They can get down the line,
run and uh, you know, they present a couple of challenges for us.
But uh, you know, likeyou're talking about the wishbone, you
know, we've we've kind of adaptedto a kind of a good set for
us, you know, as faras like offensively been able to pound guys

(44:29):
in the you know, downhill anduh, our defenses that every day,
and I think that's kind of helpedus as far as you know, being
physical this year. How'd you comeout of the the game last week?
Physically? Good? Really good?Okay, I would definitely say, you
know, coach probably attested this too. I think our our practices are extremely

(44:50):
physical than that. Uh we Imean we have lived and died on hitting,
you know, especially during the offseason, and trying to make them
love it. Yeah. Yeah, just trying to look like that old school
mentality and you know, trying toget that physicality back to it. You
know, last year we were playingwith a bunch of babies still are,
don't get me wrong. We gotthree singers, three you know, and
uh, you know, so wegot a bunch of babies still running around,
sophomores, eighth graders, freshmen, and uh you know, it's just

(45:14):
kind of you know, just tryingto consistently get them to buy into that
physicality. Obviously in our region.I mean, if you look down the
way, you got Higling home.Next week you got real Town. I
mean they're going, they're they're veryphysical and they love they love it,
right, And that's what we've beentrying to get our kids to, you
know, buy into, is beingphysical, loving that that mentality, that
that that type of football match them. Catch them you good Monday, I

(45:37):
like no labor day. Labor day, baby, we labored, you know,
kind of start off slow, butuh you know, we kind of
lipped that in the bud and thekids got into it and it was it
was a very good Labor Day practice. Yeah. Good, we labored on
Labor Day. I love that.Earlier late early early early. All right,
So what about your jav's. Iguess you got middle school Jake Junior.

(45:58):
I don't really know what it's Yeah, yeah, yeah, j j
Yeah. How seven days and night? They played last night? Uh at
Lafette and uh tie fourteen all yep, yep, fourteen fourteen. Yeah.
Six's a lot of kids that arereally getting some good valuable time right there,
you know, and obviously playing againstthe arrival for them. It was
a good atmosphere, you know upthere last night for a JB game.

(46:21):
Really good. Well, good,Now the guys, I know, you
got some guys that probably played morethan others. They hold out pretty good.
Absolutely. Yeah. I got nocramps and got some plain athletes too.
That's usually the ones that's that's crampingso bad. Absolutely, But thank
you all for coming in, Yeah, probably, thank you. Good luck.

seeing film. We can see himup close, you size him up,

(48:13):
feel warming up. So yeah, because I just enjoy getting to go different
places. I ain't never met Glencoe. I was gonna say it, go
somewhere and say somebody in you Andhow far away was that? It was
about two hours, about two hoursto get up there. And where is
it located. It's it's uh goright up four thirty one through Jacksonville and
it's it's right there. You passWeaver and Sacks and Walter Weavern and it's

(48:37):
on the other side of those aboutfifteen minutes. But you know, Weaver
and them's in our in our region. But they were playing at Glencoe right
right. Well that was had alittle scrap on the side of what happened,
had a little scrap. Uh,it's aw about ten I got a
picture of about ten cats that comeacross the field when the light broke out.

(49:00):
Uh, for Weaver. Last timeI check, doesn't that rules say
you're out and the state evaluates it, you're out for twenty percent of your
games. I can't quote it onthem. I can't, Okay, And
what they do I don't know yet. I just was wondering. I just
was they trying to let you knowwhat that's what had happened? Got your

(49:22):
coach, did you write numbers down? Did you write the numbers down?
I didn't have to. Somebody sittingbeside me from Glintcoat, so hey,
we got pictures of this. Ican't send them to me. Yeah,
but uh, you know, theyevaluate, they get all that. The
rephrase turned it in right, Sothe highs Athletic Association, you know,
they're supposed to take that, lookat it right and make a ruling,
right because the last time I readit, which was this morning again and

(49:45):
said if you leave the sideline ofthe bench, you're out for games.
So that would be it's the eighttempts in two games? Yeah, two
games? Yeah, So anyway,I did get to say a fight and
then who brought who was the kids? Because theft the bench they played for,
the team played for Weaver, theteam that you're playing pin. So

(50:07):
now what happens if you go outthere and you were to see players on
No, I don't nothing. Okay, we're coaching against whatever shows there.
You gotta coach, you know,I just was I understand, I got
it. You know between y'all,y'all score ninety five points. I know,
I know us and Weaver, yes, didn't score a point. I

(50:27):
think we got did I did Ilook at this wrong? So it was
thirty nine to six, thirty nineto six. Yeah, let's board at
the end. Well you got Jeff. It may be we may have a
type of I don't think anybody andus scored ninety five. Yeah, and
I must have been looking at thewrong Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, you
know how it is. But anyway, it was, uh all right,
So he said, I appreciate yougetting me all of that offense. I

(50:49):
didn't have a credit, all right, So you had an open week?
Does that help you? You thinkI do? And especially under the circumstances
like said, I probably coach scareda little bit during all that heat.
Yeah you did. Uh No,No, I went back up. I
don't mean scared. I know youwere concerned, you said you did.
I know you were concerned. Anyway, I wouldn't call it scared. I
just think, yeah, I wasconcerned. Uh. I think it really

(51:15):
helped us come back have it openweek because we played an outstanding be become
a football team. I think theymoved up to number one. Yeah.
Yeah, they're good and they aregood. Yeah. You know it was
just a two score game and wewere ahead at halftime. No, but
it really gave me an opportunity tosee some changes we need to make some
personnel issues for a little bit ofschemes, you know, playing a really

(51:36):
good team like that for four quarters. So it gave us a week to
fix ourselves and work on getting readyfor Weaver at the same time, and
we got three straight region games. We got Weaver, we got Sacks,
we got Walter Welbn, so wereally needed that to get ready for these
three region games like that. Iliked it, and I understand what you're
talking about the week, you know, the first week two now, and

(51:58):
I know we've asked this, butthe amount of players you got in both
ways is going how many? Uh? Here and there? We could have
seven or eight, but we dohave some. Some of'em are part
time guys. Some of'em mayget you know, ten fifteen reps on
one side. I'll tell you whatwe do have. I actually counted this
up today. On the offensive side. Offensive side, we have nine underclassmen

(52:22):
starting. Wow. And on thedefensive side we have eight underclass No,
we have nine on that side.We have nine underclassmen on both sides,
and they're not the same nine.So we only start two seniors on each
side of the ball, you know. And part of that because we graduated
seventeen seniors last year. They wereall pretty good, dad young football players.

(52:44):
Yeah, and but we you know, we have to There are certain
positions we don't have a lot off. Like we may have a position we
might can rotate, you know,we might have sick guys that can rotate.
On our defensive line not all oras good as it, but like
a linebacker, you don't have thatmany inside line we don't have that.

(53:05):
I mean, we lose one ofthem. We gotta make fourteen changes to
get the best player on the field. You know, it's not just plug
a guy in. So sometimes it'snot as much about having every guy played
both ways, but the lack ofdepth that's get a positions. I get
it, and those are things goingto a smaller school I had. You

(53:27):
never had to get it, youknow, I could. I've never watched
much football like that coach, soyou know, because I've watched being from
I can't watch it. Yeah, and you are right. I can see
where you don't think about it andthen you're sitting here putting it in front
of me. I go, yeah, I can see that even how you
can duck you you look do youlook ahead for that though? Do you
do? You have guys that havepracticed at three or four different positions.
Well, here's the problem with that. They already have to practice on both

(53:47):
both sides. So now you're askingthem, okay, practice three positions on
offense three. So we have afew kids that can do that, but
most of our kids, and ithappened, we have to make a on
the on the yeah change because it'sreally hard to to anticipate that. And
but that's just you know, andit's one of the things that guys are

(54:12):
coached in small football. They knowthat. Yeah, you know, Uh,
that's what you know. Ronnie Sykeswas one of the best smallest school
coaches around. He did it allthose he lives. He did, and
you know that because he understood. He did. He knew that his players.
Good coach, You're right now ifyou say that he didn't, he
was. Really he may have adefensive back and then this and yeah they
may play the yes back one way, yeah, guard or something. You

(54:36):
know, all right, He's right, you have to do that. Yeah,
I know, realize what you goteach game. Dat those coaches are
positioning to be to hide the weakestweek. Yeah, the same place Steve
White hid me at Valle High atleft tight end. Coach is so continu

(55:07):
and and welcome back to Most BarbecueHigh School Coaches Show continues presented by the
Orthopedic Clinic here at mos every Wednesdaynight, six to eight Central times,
seven to nine Eastern Time. Sixteenschools here tonight, only missing one.
D Mark and Jeff Jason are herein the house. Our show is presented
to you by the Orthopedic Clinic. There are title sponsor. We appreciate what

(55:28):
they do East Alabama's Regional Orthopedic Eastand West East Alabama and West Georgia,
and we certainly appreciate Most Barbecue forwhat they do feeding all our coaches every
week we got coach Joey Birch fromSpringwood. Coach, is good to see
you in the house. The youto de Mark Jeff appreciate it. Yes,
sir, what'd you get to eat? Coach? That's the man.
I got me some good wings andyeah, I tell you what, those
halopenia cheese grits. I could havejust got them and man, they were

(55:52):
in the middle of it. Yeah, corn bread, that was good.
But that's what he bragged up.We took a poll last week, coach,
and it was all wings, justabout eighty percent. Hard to beat.
Yeah, it is where I cometo get him. I hear you.
Well, it's good to have youhere, coach. I know this
is the first week. I knowyou've been busy, but thank you for
coming. We are glad to haveyou all right. Second year at spring
with Man, you have come inand you didn't even turn to blinker on.

(56:13):
You made the turn and the turninglane without turning to blinker on.
That that Springwood, in my opinion, coach going to eight man and not
only doing that but winning well whenit's a whole lot about it made it
interesting doing the coach. I'll letyou talk a little bit about making that
change since it's your first time, and talk a little bit about your team
coach. Well, you know,I didn't know anything about eight men football.

(56:34):
Didn't have a clue, Uh whata shot mean? I didn't know
the level of play that was.Yeah, you know, I've been at
North Alabama and coach two A threeeight ball most of my career as a
head coach, been at five orsix a years, assistant, you know,
defensive coordinator, whatnot. But uh, I didn't know what to expect,
you know, And really it's beena pleasant surprise. The product that's

(56:55):
put on the field, it's prettygood, comparable to decent two eight three
football. If you if you gota team you coached him, you know,
you got some good players and thenyou got some guys you gotta hide.
Well in eight man you get ridof them threes as you gotta hide.
Yeah, So that makes the producta whole lot better to put on
the field. And you know,we would like to get back to eleven

(57:17):
man and next few years as wetry to build our you know, we
we started a junior high program thisyear and I played some junior high games.
Next year, we're gonna you know, bring back our Little League team,
and feel like that's the way todo it correctly. I don't rush
into it right, you know,And I want to build it from bottom
up and have it on good foundation. You know, I'm going to kind

(57:37):
of get nold, but I wantto see it to to get that point
before I retire for for the nexttime and get our things for good.
They play eleven Man, we played, they played. That's what he was
saying. I liked it, andI'm okay. Eleven Man and in the
Little League, Yeah, that's whathe was saying. And I think I've
got enough young kids that are excitedabout it that we can have a team

(58:00):
next year and do that. Coach, that's the only way you're gonna keep
that program going. You gotta startyoung. You can't just expect him to
come out and I'll get your transfersin, but you can't. That's what
we're doing right now. Last year, we got in, recruited our our
hallways and got kids out and gota couple of movie ins excited about it
and had a good year. Andthis year I had to do the same
thing. You know. I gotsome kids in from Valley that hit two

(58:21):
or three of our starters that werein the band at Valley There you played,
There you go. So we gotthem out and got them in the
weight room and started all that kindof stuff and and and got a couple
of transfers in that make us apretty durn good football team and exciting to
watch. But but I want tobuild it and not have to do that
every single year, you know,And I think I can do that with
the fourth fifth graders we've got comingup, and just build a program a

(58:43):
right way. Well, you've wonthree in a row, Coach, you
went seven and three seventy three, right four lost champion. Sorry about that,
didn't mean leave at but hey alreadythree and oh coming off of fifteen
fifty one sixteen win over evangel ChristianAcademy. I'll let you talk a bit
about your kids. We got abouttwo minutes, Coach, I want to
Rushia, but let's talk a littlebit about and he want to talk about
Manterview Christian Hi. This week.So far, we've had a lot of

(59:07):
kids come on and do a goodjob. Luke Hutson our quarterback. He's
a big kid, plays linebacker forus and quarterback. He really has a
great grasp of the offense. Wehad a kid, Dylon Reeves that's been
a long time Springwood kid. Hemoved up to Troupe County last year when
all the uncertainty was and didn't knowwho the coach was and going to eight
man and he came back after hewatched his play last year and he's a

(59:28):
great athlete for US. He makesbig plays on offense and defense. World
classes. He coach. He's asenior senior and Uh, we got a
couple of kids that moved in workedreally hard to get him, get him
in our school community. From OPEAUH Gregg and c J. Johnson one's
a junior tight end and d Nand other ones are running back, d
back and very explosive players. Ithink CJ's got eleven touchdowns already and he's

(59:52):
starting to learn to, you know, duke a little bit and get some
game experience that he's never had before. And we're small enough that they can
get out there play as a juniorand all. That's kind of what they
were looking for as a sophomore andjunior and b starters and be impact players
for us. So good offensive line. We got a senior uh Braid Mosley
does a great job for us.And we've got a young kid that started

(01:00:13):
since eighth grade or took her sides. It's gonna be a good football player
on both sides of the ball.So we're excited about where we're at and
you know, looking forward to thefuture to I know in the region Metaview
Christian another region game, right,Yeah, we got them all right here
in the road. Ye five ina row. Tell me real quick about
Medaview mat abe you shoul kind ofstruggle. Yeah, they're two, they're
owing two, and we got toworry about us this week and get better

(01:00:34):
and we hope to go take careof business and then let our junior high
guys. We won't get them asmuch experience as we can and when it
really counts. Coach Birds, greatto see you man, appreciate being talking
about you and your family. Thankyou so much. You got it.
And this Ice Creod Coaches Show presentedby the auth Pede Clinic where it moles
the guard when we come back.Thank you, Coach birth you can spy.

(01:01:06):
We'd like to welcome everybody back tothe Coaches Show here live at most.
It is time for the most excitingfive minutes of the Coaches show is
Bordguard Baby. We'd like to thankNorth Peter Clinic, Fox nine ten,
the game most barbecue, our heartradio, and yes, that would be
the kicker w KKR ninety seven toseven. In case you didn't know,
mister Saster, that's Lee County's bestcountry, best country, best coacher.

(01:01:30):
And look, and we want towe want to extend a hearty happy birthday
to mister d Mark Mitchell. Okay, if he would, if he would
please uh acknowledge that it today. It's his birthday. I was was I
was told to make sure. SoI'm gonna talk as long as I can
about his birthday while he's gonna payingattention. I can go ahead and tell
you it's his birthday. It forbut way will into the forty year.

(01:01:57):
I understand long time, so uh, but it is his birthday? Is
it is sixty nine? Birthday sixtynine today. That's awesome, man,
that's awesome. It is so coachlast week end sixty nine. I'm gonna
I'm gonna take care of this morning. Sixty nine. We did it.

(01:02:19):
We stay on this birthday for alittle bit. I don't want to.
I'll stay fifty nine but we ain'tgoing to you beat central Hainville last is
it Hainvill or hand I think it'sI think it's Hanyville, but some people
say Handivill. They just kind ofwant let it roll together. I mean,
if you just see the Handyville wasa fictional town with it then one
of the old shows. Hey,look now, mister Sash showing you age.

(01:02:44):
You threw a shot out. You'reshowing your age. Baby. Let's
calm down. You talking about, you know, you might be fifty nine
today. How you threw a shotout last week beating the central of Haneyville
or Handvill whatever you want to say. I need to ask somebody from that
town how to say you. Probablysomebody from Montgomery wouldn't talk about that one

(01:03:05):
briefly, then we're gonna move onwith you and Coach Wallace talk about what
was coming up. I got you, I got you. Well it was
again. It was a it wasan exciting night. The weather, of
course, it was kind of nastyto start with, but then it kind
of it kind of fizzled out asthe game went on. We got to
play a lot of guys kind ofdid what we needed to do. I
got out and took the game over, you know, kind of the first

(01:03:27):
first half and was able to playa lot of football, play a lot
of kids second half as well,so coaching anything on that on the offensive
side of the ball. But well, Friday, you know, the thing
you worry about was with the sloppyfield and weather and an opponent that that
may not be uh up to partwith what you are just playing sloppy and
and not a clean game. Butwe finished the game with no penalties and

(01:03:49):
no turnovers offensively, so you know, if it's pretty dug on clean.
Yeah, if we could continue thattype of football, will have a chance
obviously every week. So what didyou throw up a lot of yards coach
or did you Well, we it'swith about three hundred round three hundred yards.
But you know, our my challengewas for our team, uh offensive
was to be more balanced. Yeah, I think we're in the night with
with sixteen throws and fifteen rushes. So you know, we didn't we didn't

(01:04:12):
play that many snaps, but uh, you know we were average right at
ten yards of snaps, so uh, y'all only had thirty one to thirty
two. That's about it. OnceI play on their end of the field.
The whole am. I well, had some big plays, okay,
some some some real short drives,a couple of short drives. Okay,
all right, Well, hey thisweek, Boegard, I mean Borgoard's got
you got valid. Yes, you'reyou're hosting hosting Valley. Uh, you

(01:04:34):
know, first region game. It'sa it's it's a big night. Now,
it's gonna be a fun night. It's gonna be exciting football. Man.
They're gonna play hard. You know, our kids will show up and
play hard, and uh, wejust we're just gonna continue to try to
get better, you know, tryto be the best version of Budguard every
Friday night. So that's kind ofour key this Well, last year you
won the game thirty one fourteen.I think they're improved team. What I

(01:04:58):
mean, it appears as though theyare. Yeah, there's no I got
you. They've got skilled now, there's no doubt about it. They've got
a lot of their skill guys arereturning a quarterback, receivers, defensive backs.
You know a lot of those guysare are are really good players.
A lot of those guys played onthat state championship basketball team. So those
those were there. They're they're highlycompetitive, good, good football players,

(01:05:20):
good athletes in general. So it'llbe it's gonna be a tall task for
us Friday night, but our kidswill respond, our folks will get behind
us. They'll be there Friday nightto support our kids. So it'll be
a great atmosphere. They travel, yes, sir, they I feel like
I mean, I feel like it'sa short trip. It's a it's a
somewhat of a rival type deal.So uh, you know, I feel
like, you know, Friday nightwill be a be a great atmosphere for

(01:05:42):
high school football. What do yougotta do to be them? Uh?
Coach Wallace, Well, I don'tsay the same thing every week. We
gotta be able to run the footballand we can't turn it over. You
know, I think in high schoolfootball, if you could run the ball
and stop the run and then notturn the ball off, you give your
chance self a chance to win againstanybody. So, uh, those cats

(01:06:03):
can run now, I mean theythey just like coach said, they're very
athletic. They can run around, and uh, we just gotta be more
physical. So you know, uh, we had them on they were prior
to all. I don't know howfar a police with two Vision one players
on the same quarterback and defensive defensiveYes, yeah, so you know,
and I'm I'm assuming the defensive backplay does a little more in defensive backman

(01:06:27):
does okay does? Yes? Quarterbackplay safety, so you know they do.
Yeah. So the dB returns kicksthat kind of stuff too, so
okay, So yes, they doa really good job of getting the ball
into the kids that can make playsfor after last week played a lot of
guys, so that's good. SoI'm I'm assuming you don't have a lot
of injuries or anything. This timeof years, everybody gets kind of you

(01:06:47):
know, after a couple of games, you get nicks and bruises and all
that, but nothing's gonna keep somepretty good shape, yes, and pretty
good shape. All right, Sobig game of Valley. I'm sorry when
they would have listened to it.We look, man, it is your
birthday. You do what you wantto cuse I love you too. Let's
survey coach, you're doing all that? Yeah, fifty nine sixty nine mean
fifty nine. I'm gonna s allright. It's good to see the go

(01:07:11):
y'all at home this week, right, Yes, sir, will be at
home this week. There you go, Hornet Stadium, one hundred point nine.
The ball and the ballgoard, HornetRadio five nine, one h point
nine the ball. There you got. It's good to see both, y'all.
All right, congratulation on the earlystart and your son getting the court
touchdown too. Yes, sir,I love my boy Cub. We'll be
right back. We're gonna talk tothe station football from the Coaches show.
A mode wasn't about the street teamwhen we come back? Three? Welcome

(01:07:48):
back? He loves to tell thatstory. Well I did. Welcome back
to most Barbecue High School Coaches Showevery Wednesday night right here from six to
nine at the Veranda mos We're atBent Creek location. There's actually two locations.
They are one in downtown Auburn. There's one right here, and I
encourage you to come by seven daysa week. They got good food.

(01:08:09):
They've got catfish, vegetables, kidfood. Then they got barbecue ribs wings.
What'd you have? Coach walkings? The smokeless weeds smokeless what is that
or the smoke wings or the smokesmokes said, smokeless smoke? Sorry,
I got you, I don't don'tit wouldn't matter. But anyway, they

(01:08:29):
have grilled cheeses, which I like. They have vegetables, they got it
all and we encouraged to come bymost barbecue and if you have to have
some orthopedic services, the orthopedic clericservice, the Orthopedic clinic is where we
recommend you because I've had multiple surgesthere and I'll sure you it is a
good place. Coach Walkings has joinsus the Smith Station along with the concert.
It's driving by a coach. We'lllet him go far here. Well

(01:08:55):
that they didn't tell me that waspart of the show, Coach. They
didn't tell me that first it's firstway. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's our that's our promo. Weeahcoach speak minute to drive up. Yeah
all right, coach on last week, I'm laughing at coaches right alight.
It was a tough night for youguys. Played Central last week, Central
Phoenix City. Yes, sir,we do that to a lot of teams.
Yeah, you know, they're veryvery good football team, well coached

(01:09:16):
with coach Knicks and uh we youknow, I was talking to coaches in
here. We were young up frontand in some key positions, so so
it was a tough night, buttry to come back this week. So
we've had a good week of practiceand uh good to be going back in
the afternoons again and getting things backto normal because y'all been in the morning
rotation in the morning yep. SoI don't know why he's doing that,

(01:09:42):
but go ahead, he's hi.Yeah, So what made the change to
the afternoon? So the the heat. So the heat we went obviously going
to and then it's back. We'reback in the afternoons now, so we'll
go we'll have a walk through inthe morning, Okay, all right,
So it's all afternoon, all afternoonsnow, buddy through Wednesday, all right.
So what do you do, coachwhen you come back and you lose
fifty one nights lead arguably one ofthe best teams teams state. Yeah.

(01:10:06):
I like what coach Garrison. Youknow, we we met on Sunday and
he said, you know, wejust have to set goals for ourselves,
you know, set small goals andaccomplish those goals and try to get better
throughout the week, and you know, don't focus on the outcome, just
just accomplished those small goals throughout theweek and try to come back and like
the spirit of the team has beengood. Kids have been working hard.

(01:10:27):
So you know, we said wedon't focus on the outcome. I'm just
gonna work hard and set goals forourself to accomplish throughout the week and on
Friday night. All right, prepwell there, oh one, Yeah,
tell me a little bit about thisPrepo So Praping football team. Very good
on defense what I've seen. Offensively, they're gonna run the football with their
senior running back number two. It'stheir offense is built around him, and

(01:10:50):
uh we got to stop the run. Uh. I think younger younger at
quarterback. They got a new quarterbackthis year. But they're always gonna play
hard, good on special teams.Uh. So it's it's gonna be a
good game for us on Friday night. So I'm ready for the ready for
the challenge for our guys. Sobut very good defensively, get after it

(01:11:11):
and the games in prebble to thegames in Prettville. Yeah, Smith Station
Football. We're talking with coach WashkonWatkins. He's at Smith Station. They're
headed to take on their second regiongame. They had last week off so
they were coming so this is actuallytheir second game of the year. Like
I said, they opened up Weekone with Foley and so they lost that
game. And so that's that's theonly film that we had on them,
obviously, and then last year whenwe played them all right, So do

(01:11:34):
they have a bunch of guys returningcoach or offensively? I don't think they
returned much. Like I said, they got a new quarterback. But the
running back. The running back iswhat stands out to me. Bigger running
back, and uh, like Isaid, that's that's what they want to
do. Uh. Defensively returned alot of guys and like I said,
they get after it, played downhilland play fast, play physical. Give

(01:11:54):
me somebody good. He's been playingfor Smiths on your side. So for
defensively, defensively, yeah, hehad so defensively, h I coached the
linebackers and one of them as LancePeterson, senior linebacker for US. I
think right now he's got over he'sprobably got close to thirty tackles. I
mean he's flying all around the field. And then Cam Warren, so he
was our player of the week thisyear. This week, uh, this

(01:12:16):
past week, I think he hadtwo or three sacks against Central early in
the first half, five or sixtackles, two or three tackles for tackle
for loss. So he's been playingreally good force. So there you go.
Keep him positives going. That's right, absolutely all right. Going on
the road, Going on the roadto Pray travel is a prep sir over
there? What's that Stanley Jenson Stadium. I think that's right. We're just

(01:12:38):
we're gonna pull lay out. Yeah, I pay you that to come with
you next time. Yes, sir, he's playing hooky on me today station
on the road. This week, they got Prattville in a huge region game.
We're at most Barbecue Used to CoachesShow continues. We're gonna talk Bend
and Russell, Smitty Grider when wecome back. Ye good at you give

(01:13:05):
me and we're back at mos Barbecue. Bands got some alcohol, Jeff,
you want to go over and getit, that's the joke. We're at
Mose Barbecue High School Coaches Show. We're talking about wiping down headsets. And
you didn't even catch that, didyou? Of course I did. Okay,
we're talking about wiping down headsets whenpeople had a cold. But we're
at Moles High School Coaches Show.Jason Lee, thank you for engineering every

(01:13:28):
week vand appreciate your humor and settingup. Thanks for doing all that.
We appreciate. Ricky Carmack Mole's willis the manager all these wonderful people that
work here. This place is packedseven days a week. When encourage you
to come by, It's good food, certainly. On Wednesday we talked football.
Coach Smitty Griders joined us from BenjaminRussell. Coach Griders, good to
see you, Good to be here, Mark Man. I'm sorry you're not

(01:13:50):
feeling good, and I want toapologize. I said you guys one because
I had a bad score Friday andI was embarrassed. So I was about
to send you a congratulate that's allright, and I got the right score,
and I'm so I'm sorry about theloss. Well, no, not
to be sorry about. We gotwhipped. You know, they came in
and took it to us, hada great plan and uh, I mean

(01:14:12):
coach Horns won three hundred and somethinggames for a reason and all those state
championships, and uh, you know, we didn't play well and and they
played better than us, and theywere the better team Friday night, and
you know we just got to onit, you know, what the they
were. You know, we knewthey were gonna run the wishbone, but
they ran the triple option night ofit, which we had not seen them

(01:14:32):
do and we weren't prepared for.And uh gave us some problems defensively,
but you know, we played reallygood defense in the third quarter to give
ourselves a chance. And our offensewas just non existent Friday night. I
think we finished the night was aboutone hundred and fifty yards by offense.
And wow, we threw two interceptionsand muffed the punt and you know,
you do all that against a goodteam that's controlling the football, then you're

(01:14:55):
not gonna win. And that's kindof what happened. And uh, we
got humbled, and I think weknew eat it. I think it's been
a good thing. We've had agreat week this week, and uh,
you know, hopefully our kids, you know, you know, just getting
told you're good doesn't mean anything. You've got to go out there and put
the work in and do all thethings necessary to be successful. And if
if you're not doing everything right,it's gonna come back to haunch. And

(01:15:16):
that's what happened Friday night, anduh, hopefully we learn from it,
and it'll be a big building blockforce for the rest of the season.
They ain't nothing wrong with that coach. You laid it right out there.
Put to blame where it is.We'll move right on out of that coach
and go to your next upon itKleira. Oh and two, they lost
fifty five zero to Spain. Partthey lost at Chelsea thirty eight twenty four.

(01:15:39):
Oh and two. Your team's wonin one region game, first one
for you, right, that's right, So a big game. It's a
big game. We're on the road. It's our first road you failed them
in. Sorry, you know they'rethey're gonna be hungry. You get to
win in the region because you know, just like us, Friday night has
no bearing on whether or not wereach our our main goals for the season.
So everybody's zero and zero in theregion. And uh, you know

(01:16:00):
they're going through a tough week likewe did last week. Uh that is,
they have a player that was killedin a car accident, and uh
man, it's happened all over thestates. I mean it's like four or
five you've seen that. Yeah,I'm like, what's going on. I
think Spartman's had two actually, andand then the young man at albert Albertville.
Yeah, that's right. Yeah,it's a man unbelievable. And then

(01:16:24):
we had one, well you hadone right week. It just is,
Uh, when I say cars,I don't mean cars or and teenagers are.
That's scary to death. Man.I don't know if I'll be able
to handle it when Will and Shelbygets six. It's hard. It's hard.
You went through, boy, Idid. And I'm gonna tell you.
I tell people this all the time. The first time they drive off
by themselves, it's awful. It'sgut wrench it is. It really is.

(01:16:46):
Staying that driveway he go the Lord, please let him coach. You're
right, but anyway it's gonna be. You know, it's a big game.
We were both need to win.And uh, they've got some good
players. They had a coach andchange eight this summer. I'm sure that's
had an effect on the other headcoach went to Hoover up. Oh yeah,
you know what took an assistance job. He did, and I think

(01:17:06):
they promoted an assistant on staff asinter them and they sure did there.
I mean they look, I've gotsome good players and they do some good
things. And it's hard to tell. You know, Spain Park's got a
good team. And I'm gonna tellyou, I'm gonna calling upset right now.
They're gonna they gonna beat Hoover Franda. And three you know, well
I haven't. They've got a goodfootball team, I'll tell you that.
And uh, but and Chelsea aboutyou know, it was they just uh

(01:17:28):
they played Chelsea pretty tough. Andfour, you know, that's another seven
day school and so you know,we we're expecting a tough game Friday night.
We're gonna have to week. Thisweek is it's been about us,
Mark, you know, we gottaget better at us and and so we've
really focused on what we can doto make our offense more productive, and
then what we've got to do toto with the players we have defensively,

(01:17:49):
what it's gonna take for us toget off the field. We had a
bunch of third downs last week, third and longs where they converted and they
had a fourth and seventeen before thehalf, and you know, I'm calling
time out to get the ball backand they go for it and we miss
a tackle and they pick up afirst down, go down and score a
touchdown right before the half. Thatshouldn't have happened. You know, we

(01:18:12):
we've got a tackle better and uh, you know, I was proud of
our young guys up front. Wewon a lot of one on one matches
up front. We didn't win manydouble teams. We got double teams out
of there pretty good and something wegotta be better at. We're gonna play
Friday night with a senior at noseand two freshman defensive ends. I mean,
it is what it is. That'sthat's what that's the hand we have.
And uh, we're gonna go tryto win those games with what we

(01:18:33):
got. We think we can dothat. We got a good plan and
you know, if U you know, hopefully hopefully we'll play better. Uh.
The key is the offense. Iset it back in the summer at
Media Days. You know, ouroffense needed to carry us early and uh
that hasn't That didn't happen last week. And so that we've got a you
know, we got a read one. You got forty points, Well you

(01:18:54):
didn't las Yeah, you know thatthat's that's just you know, one of
those things. And we got torun the ball more consistently. They had
a good plan defensively too. Igive them credit. Man, they they
dropped eight a lot, and wecouldn't find regular receivers and uh we didn't
take advantage of uh, you know, five man box and so you know,
but we hopefully we've made the rightchanges this week and uh and we'll

(01:19:15):
be better. Well, I'm sureyou'll be better coaching. I know you're
gonna get better defensively. And that'sinteresting what you said. I guess going
on the road, it'll be yourfirst trip. Talk about that, taking
your team on the road. Yeah, it'll be you know, I think
our defensive kids will it'll be kindof a big experience for them to have
to play in front of, youknow, other fans on the road.
Uh, So you know it'll beyou know, it isn't a bad trip.

(01:19:40):
Ice an hour and a half maybe, so you know, we'll get
out of there about two thirty andeating Childersburg and uh try to get the
stadium about four thirty four forty fiveand get ready to play our The rest
of our day will be normal. One good thing is we won't have a
PEP rally, so they just interferewith my day, you know, which
that just interview years with our ourfocused time before the game. So you

(01:20:03):
know, I know the fans ofthe kids love it, the students and
it gets them fired up, andand that's great and we want that,
you know. But as a coach, you kind of want your guys secluded
away from everybody, you know,so they can get their mind. I
tell people, tell our players thisall the time. You got to remember
so much to play football. It'sdifferent than any other sports. You do

(01:20:24):
so many things you have to know. And if you're not focused, not
gonna play. Coach mccrack and says, it's a game of passion and focus,
and he's right, that's what thisgame is about. Hope you feel
better. Hey, I'm better thanI was yesterday, that's for sure.
I wasn't gonna come, but Iknow you always. I'll say this,
if if we had won Friday night, it probably wouldn't have come at it.

(01:20:45):
But I didn't want to be ano show after a loss. Ye
the man, We love you,Love you. Betty Grider with Bench and
Russell quick break the Fat Bulldogs upnext from the Coaches Show. At most
we wouldn't know how to driving coachWelcome back to mos Barbecue site of the

(01:21:10):
High School Coaches show on Kicker andFox Sports. The Game nine ten thirteen
ten d Mark Jeff I ain't gonnasay Van Jason, Jason, thanks for
what you do. I know youdon't have a headset, but thank you
for what you do. Van.Appreciate you getting in the way. Time
to talk a little fat Bulldogs.Jeffrey Craig coaches, good evening, good

(01:21:30):
even to how we doing Coach Williams. Coach Thorning, y'all good? Hey,
we we bobbed ground. Were great. Amen to that. Coach said,
if you had enough money, you'dbuy me another Hunday and we'd have
to learn how to drive it rightbecause we're still getting our bells and whistles
on the side. We'd drive thesame. Call your wife and I there
you go, all right, coach. It was a tough week for your
close loss to Coach Levitt Bullet Countyand I know him too, but that's

(01:21:51):
a tough game. No, No, that's the wrong one. That's right.
Yes, fines, I was thinkingthat he's a boy. I mean
that uh played them next? Yes, yes, yes, there you go.
But Bullet County last week coach twentyto fourteen, right, yes,
sir, all right, talk alittle bit about that game. M game

(01:22:12):
that really just really hurt us.Guys. We we went back to the
mental thing this week. You know, our our defense and two games to
play. Well, we've gave upsix intersections, coach, and with four
y'a've gotten, yeah, we've fourpeak. Six has hurt us. I
mean you've thrown six yes sir,and four terms. So you know that

(01:22:38):
has hurt us. So we hadto go back to mental. You know,
we had to get our line,go back and go to the base
with our line, our quarterbacks, both our quarterbacks go back to the base
with our line. And when you'remaking those kind of turnovers and it's it's
costing you the game, Uh,it gets frustrated. It's really frustrating.

(01:22:59):
Both games we've played this these lasttwo weeks, it was eight eight in
this game and half time at sixsix with so both times we've been locked
in totally told, uh, youdidn't lose but six. I mean it
rouch, you only lost six pointsin this game, and you were told
to toe at half time. Soboth games we've been told to told we
were we telling our teams like wegotta have just like coach gros just talked

(01:23:23):
about passing the folks, he isright in I mean that was that was
we over there looking at each otherlike, wow, that's all we've been
talking about, is that you haveto remember a lot of things in football
and that's our biggest thing. Yeah, you know what he when he said
that, I was like, youknow what, You're right and it and
in your turn, it was whatis it from coach? Is it from
pressure from from you like you justmentioned your lines at pressure from the other

(01:23:45):
defense? Is it him trying tomake a play? Well, this pressure
a front the guys are I'm notcommunicating well, you know, things we
go over through the week, butyou know, game time situation, they
just they just lose the focus anddon't communicates the line. And uh we
we didn't get a lot of pressure, but uh there are times when we
look good and we communicated and wewas able to make some plays. And

(01:24:08):
there's there's time where we act likewe just haven't been out there at all
or we don't know what's going on. But uh what we uh cope said.
We just pretty much got back tothe basics this week, learning who
the block communicate, point them out. I mean, you know, they
say, I guess they're afraid. You know, back in the days,
we point you out. Okay, you just put the circle by you.

(01:24:29):
You were mine. So but uh, we just got to get back to
that, like I said, Uh, the focused part of it. I
think we we have not played acomplete game yet. Uh good first half,
you know, second half it's wherewe kind of fall apart a little
bit. But if we get justput together four quarters, I think we'll
be fine because a lot of thegames, like I said, we're not

(01:24:50):
losing them by much, we're justlosing our focus. Right there, you
did way through the third late fourquarters sounds like it. You still got
you still got them coach as farpractice in their mental state. Yes,
sorry, I mean you know that'smy job and I have to do a
better job and I will of gettingthis team the where it needs to be.

(01:25:11):
And that goes day to day andeverything that we deal with with sixteen
seventeen year olds every day these thisday. But uh, we don't make
no excuses, Like I said, that's on me. And we gotta fix
the problems on offense so that wecan win. And that's and that's what
we're gonna do. We're gonna getbetter. So we just gotta keep our
nose to the ground and working withit. Big games this week to get

(01:25:33):
better. In coach, it's aregion game. And you got Real Town,
a very good team that won fortyone fourteen again their opener. Real
Town is a very good football TWNAnd like I said, we went to
basis, back to the basis thisyear about it. The thing about them
is their hard knows is they don'tdo nothing confusion. It's we're coming here,

(01:25:56):
stop to stop stop us. Uh. The game plan is I tell
our got we it's the coach. It's all we're doing this week. Yeah,
that's all you finish. See thisweek this shit tacking. But it's
right here, it is. You'reright here, man to man man oh
man. You know. So that'swhat we've been doing this week. And
uh, we got some bumps andbruise. They used to coach China.
Yeah we left him a little whileago getting bumps and bruis, Like,

(01:26:17):
hey, this is what it's gonnabe. No real time. It's not
hard to figure out they've done thesame thing. Yeah he's right, and
yeah, ain't that much training. It's just like you said, but they
do it so well. The focusand the coach. They got those guys.
When Jackie O'Neill coach me, Iplayed, he played, Yeah,

(01:26:39):
I played against I coached against. But let me say there is something to
be said for that guys, forwhat they do. You know it,
and it's still hard to stop. It's kind of like what you were talking
about. Your guys, go,don't have an athlete that can get a
race. Yeah, that's what takes, you know, in the path.
Now I'll know what I mean.Break busted, play, he turns it
into a good one. Yeah, you know, bust. Look he's be

(01:27:00):
looking around, Jeff okay, right, yeah, sometimes sometimes you don't see
one year away coach. Yeah,we we we try to get that back
here. That's it. That's cuthere. You know what. Coach.
Good luck this week. You gottayou got a good game at home.
It'll be a big crowd against avery good team. Last factor will love
some real town appreciate that. Loveyou guys. Good to see good coach

(01:27:23):
one, Good to see you allright, that's one. Williams coach Thornton
with Lafette at home this week againstreal Town, not the Sugle, the
Blue Devils and Coach Eric speak withthe two teams we got left. We'll
come back. Appreciate you. Hey, welcome back to the High School Coaches

(01:27:44):
Show. We're coming to you livefrom Mole's Original Barbecue, brought to you
by Moles, the Orthopedy Clinic,Fox Sports, The Game and The Kicker
ninety seven point seven FM. Coach, it's good to see you too,
you too, all right? Wait, Uh, the off week, we
gotta know the Soca High School.I'm sorry, I apologize for that.
Uh last week you're off. Youlost your first game against Looting Nap and

(01:28:08):
that's a good team. We knowthat they got a lot of history.
Uh, we talked about them lastweek. Let's talk about a targer Bille.
We're gonna spend this this next fiveminutes talking about your opponent, Well,
a Targoville there. They are ayoung team, but they do have
a lot of athletes on both sidesof the ball. But I think if
we handle our business and do thethings that we've been coached up to do,

(01:28:32):
I like our chances against them, right against anybody. Really, Uh,
what do you gotta do to bethis this team coach, just to
be disciplined. Be disciplined like it'salways stay away from uh the sevenflicted penadies,
stay away from turning over the ball. If we can do that,

(01:28:54):
then we always have a chance. What do you feel like you're strongest right
now? Defensively offensively? And it'snot that I would say offensively we probably
are a little stronger, but Ihonest I think we may be really even
on both sides of the ball.We still have a lot of work to
do on both sides of the ball. But we've been working on trying to

(01:29:16):
get mentally suffer for uh every opponableplane and and and that's what what we
really kind of worked on on thatthat by week, trying to get mentally
prepared with how is your your specialteams man? Y'all used to a couple
of years ago, you had aYeah, y'all had a kicker. Yeah,

(01:29:38):
oh yeah every time. Well,we're trying to get back to that.
We have a kicker now, DasonMiller. He's a tenth grader.
He does pretty good on kickoff, but we have to cover better on kickoff.
We didn't get a chance to showshow, you know, our improvement

(01:29:58):
against the net. Hopefully will beable to show that against the Targo bill
this week. Targo Bill that theseries is nine and eight. Yeah,
I was looking at that. It'sa good series with you guys. It
is. I mean, we don'tneed to let him tie up now.
Healthier thing. I know you won'tknow played. I think it did because

(01:30:23):
we we uh, we got somework in. Then we also got a
chance to get some guys back healthy. Yeah, so they got a little
rest. You know, we hadthe Labor Day weekend, so we got
him get the break doing that thatweekend. So I think they're ready to
play. Like I said, mostof it was really just trying to get

(01:30:43):
mentally focused, right, and Ithink we're working on that. Have you
got everybody uh from game one backfor gameplay? Really? Yeah, everybody
will be back. Everybody's healthy toplay, and I think they're ready.
Yeah. You know, sometimes youwant to eagerly get back out there,

(01:31:03):
and but sometimes, like you said, you need to do some things.
And then I always hear this, coach, and I've heard it from some
of the guys. Between week oneand week till you make your biggest improvement.
But you had an off week two, so you kind of think it
would be real for y'all even moreright, Yeah, yeah, definitely.
You know a lot of coaches saytoo when they have that that you know,
you play game, you have theoff week, especially like this as
you had you played week zero andthen week one year off, you work

(01:31:25):
on yourself. Yeah, a wholelot exactly. Then in the week two
and then you gotta worry about thetagger Bill or your opponent. Yes,
sir, yes, sir, comingin this game. And that's what our
focus was really on, just tryingto get some things ironed out that we
needed to do better. You know, we watched the film and we prepare
for a Tago Bille. But likeI said, one week, once we
do what we need to do toget improve ourselves, I think we're uh,

(01:31:49):
we match up with everybody in ourregion. Yeah, you're right about
that, coaches, no doubt aboutit. Speed. What about speed?
Y'all got y'all got that? Ohyeah, I think that's one of our
biggest strengths. I think we area pretty fast team. I think we're
one of the fastest in the region. But we gotta show it. We
gotta show Yeah, you did youdo? Now? JV middle school.

(01:32:12):
What kind of program you get rightthere, coach, We have our JV
program, actually the head coach ofour JV program, and we have all
of our program. Oh yeah, yes, sir, okay, sorry,
and so y'all playing games? Yeah, we uh we actually were supposed to
play Lust of Polka this Tuesday, but we had uh we had to uh
try to reschedule that game. Soour first game actually be next Tuesday against

(01:32:32):
Bula. Good them, all right, anything else, coach before we go,
you wanna bring up no, man, We just we just ready to
play. Grad to play, allright. Good to see you know you
don't have your daughter with you nexttime? All right? Good lukay,
thank you, all right, that'snot to sugah. Big game this week
every week, of course they wereopen last week. We're gonna keep it
right here and shifted on over theopal. I could coach speakman's in the

(01:32:55):
house, so let him have timeto beginning of coach for at most,
Thanks, coach, were at mostbarbecue side of the high school Coaching Show.
We'll be here every Wednesday night throughoutthe season, and we've been through
three weeks. From six to eight. Coach Erik speatman joins his coach.
Good see you tonight, Good tosee y'all. Birthday, Thank you here,
thank you. I saw that slingshot. Was that your birthday present?
And that guy rolling in through herewith that love of music? Thank you?

(01:33:16):
That was I thought that was adelivery to think. Thanks man.
You gonna look good rolling Thank youin the morning. That's my remote car.
Yeah, you can drive by Jeffwhile he's out running then and coach,
and then don't forget Trip. We'llsee Trip too. Yeah. Trip
will be a little bit ahead ofTrip and his daughter d in a bed
him. You know he doesn't needany aiding. And at you in van,

(01:33:40):
all right, coach, enough ofme in the riding them all that
good win last week at your homeaway from home, y'all don't want to
talk tonight. I just talked.I told him not everybody will do another
night. Sorry, guys, Ididn't mean at the Crampton Bowl. Yes,
Crampton Bowls. I'm home away fromhome weeks and yeah, home away
from home. Up. We playeda lot of games that I need to
look time. Uh, yeah,a lot. Well, one year we

(01:34:03):
played three Thursdays in a in aseason of there, but obviously you played
the Montgomery schools in your region,so you get those their home games are
always played there. But yeah,it was a good win. Any wins
a good win in this region.UH played who was that Jag? They
changed the name to Jag, anduh, you know, we I thought
we started off really good in thefirst half and then our second half was

(01:34:24):
really poor. Just uh, we'reup twenty nine nothing, Uh come out
and we fumble the first the kickoff to open the second half. They
you know, kind of watermelon style, goes off our chest. We should
have fallen on it, give themthe ball. And then after that we
just played real flat. So wegot to fix those things. Uh.
You know, I guess that's goodthat you can fix that in a win.

(01:34:45):
And thank you. And uh soyou know, we'll move on now
to uh the other school that haschanged their name, which is now Percy
Julian the old Robert E. Lee, and we will play them Friday night
at home and our home opener. So trying to get ready for the them.
And I don't think it matters toomuch about those name change because their
logos on their logos. Yeah, that was the weirdest thing is they yeah,

(01:35:05):
yeah, I mean, how doyou know you don't? That's not
thank you coach, and you're gonnatell went And I think the cheerleaders still
had valls on their uniform. Yousaid, these girls, this is even
crazier. So this is gonna be. Uh, the cheerleaders I saw in
film. We're wearing their new newcolors. They're gonna be similar to Auburn

(01:35:26):
University Navy and orange. Uh Lee'sspirit packs. We drove by their school
the other day, still named RobertyLee on the on the sign. Their
kids are out there practicing and navyand orange shorts and shirts, but have
red helmets on them because they didn'tdo this in time for the for the
athletic department to I mean, youhave to order uniforms seven months and uh,

(01:35:47):
they just I guess kind of threwit on them. And I mean,
what what kind of tradition is thatfor these kids to play under at
least still red coach around the ofthe track and yeah, still the same
colors, you know other than thiswhat they're wearing on the clause. They
don't. But they still have thesame lead jerseys, right, they don't
same lead yea, they have shameuniforms. It looks like to me on
film, they're wearing just plain redhelmets. It doesn't say there's no last

(01:36:12):
week that yeah, okay, andthese don't have lead these don't And you
know, Smithy was just here,he's Jeff Davis Grant and he's like,
if you're going to change the namename, take put the stickers on the
coach. If it was that biga deal, take off. But so
anyway, so we'll we'll try to, you know, get a win,
another region win, and you knowit's so important you guys, know with
this region was Central at Auburn andDothan's good again and the Enterprise you saw

(01:36:36):
what they did last week to Auburn. So you have to definitely stay ahead
and win the games you're supposed towin because it's gonna be tough. It's
gonna get a lot tougher next weekobviously. Uh you know right now just
talking about uh Percy Julian and theydressed about forty five kids, play a
lot of kids both ways. Soyou know, our kind of main thing
is going to be, you know, with our kind of moved a little

(01:36:58):
more up temple on offense is triedto wear them down a little bit,
some big kids up front, souh, you know, that'll help open
up the run game as those kidshopefully get tired and and uh hopefully we
can get out of there with ahome win. Roman playing that we didn't
mention played. Roman played good, last played incredible. Last week. We
finally got him, you know, from the Thompson game to that next game,
got him throwing some screens. Uh, basically what Thompson to do us.

(01:37:20):
You know, we were trying todo the same thing back to them.
We just we weren't getting the ballout there and we were handing it
off too much into a loaded box. And so Roman did a great job
of throwing it to Jamary Miller andhe made some good plays. Uh.
I think Jamari had ten catches forabout one hundred and seven yards. Jordan
told told Bert had five catches forright at about one hundred and six,
scored twice, and Jamari scored once. Uh. Jordan actually dropped one that

(01:37:43):
would have been about a fifty yardtouchdown. Uh. Brody had a big
catch. Rody Jones had one thathe called around the twenty and got down
to the one. So we spreadthe ball. Roman did a really good
job last week and getting the ballout to some different guys and uh and
then we should have his brother backthis week. We held him out last
week little bum shoulder from the ThompsonGames, so hopefully we'll have him back
this Hugly scored twice or Ugly Ithink. I think Calvin did score twice

(01:38:05):
on two runs. Had a reallygood run from about forty yards out,
broke several tackles, and then wewhen Brody got it down to the one,
Calvin ended up scoring on that playon that drive. Your defensive front
is getting a lot of praise outof two coaches I've talked to, Coach
Fremant being one of them. Yes, you're you They getting that. I
told Dan today in our little pregamedeal that we've record I do. I

(01:38:29):
still do the defensive stats on huddle, and that's kind of how I watched
the defense. Now that I've movedover to the other side, I don't
remember ever putting in that many defensivelinemen in for tackles usually. Yeah,
I mean it was like number ninetynumber ninety one, number ninety six,
number ninety nine, just over andover and over. So and that's really
how we have to have to winon defenses. With those four guys,

(01:38:51):
who would name them, it's uhninety six is Malik Altry, Okay's committed
to Auburn right now. Uh ninetynine is Jaki Lightfoot, who has really
come along. He's also a basketballplayer. And Murray Smiley is just a
freak show out there. In fact, yeah, in fact he uh this
this summer, I almost had ourball camp. I guess I almost held

(01:39:14):
him out of practice because we couldnot get off of play. He was
in the backfield so fast. It'slike, guys, we can't. We're
just gonna have to. I mean, seriously, he cannot practice. He
is six three, two thirty andhe yes, he and he looks the
part. And then actually the biggestsurprise is a kid named Alan Jackson.
And so Alan's number ninety And ifyou look out there, you would you

(01:39:36):
know, if you're the offensive coordinator, you're going to run the ball at
him, you know, based onthose other three. And man, he
played incredible last Friday night. Soso those guys have really taken a big
load off of our two linebackers,Jackson Kilcrest and Jamarby and Jenkins are the
main two, and uh it's allowedthem to kind of grow into you know,
because their first year starters and secondariesdoing a great job of defending the

(01:39:58):
past for the most part. Wehad a few bust the other nights still,
so we got to get that fixedcertainly by next week, or else
we'll get run out of uh FieldCentral next week. So uh we,
Well we'll focus again on Leave thisWorld Percy Julian this week and then move
on to Central next week. Butyeah, just getting better each week.
No one what's ahead of us.And I hadn't heard you say, I
don't think. I assume everybody's okay, Yeah, everybody's healthy. Yeah,

(01:40:21):
we hadn't you know. We lostTyler Moore in the first uh we he
actually got hurting our scrimmage. Didn'tknow that. Yeah he yeah, Tim
signed Yeah. Ye. Unfortunately he'she's gonna be out. He had surgery
last week. Yeah, happening inour big scrimmage we do. And it's
just and uh so unfortunately we won'thave because he was gonna be a really

(01:40:41):
big player for us this year. But and I hate to seek kids getting
hurt, coach, I don't know, Yeah, he just and he he
had in the game. Yeah hewas. Yeah, and it was in
a scrimmage. It was just anormal, normal play and uh he ended
up hurting his knee and actually playedand practiced the whole next week but kept
and uh they were didn't matter aboutI hate yeah, you know. And
the same thing happened to his olderbrother his junior years what I was thinking

(01:41:04):
about. So anyway, so he'sreally the only one. We'll get our
backup quarterback, Tyler Johnson back nextweek. He hurt his finger though he
was hurt. Yeah, he justhad a little uh it come on the
helmet, the one moved over fromAuburn to play base. I remember you
telling me, ye hit a fatfinger on a helmet, throw a ball,
uh and had to just a minormore of like a bruise. I

(01:41:25):
mean, it wasn't too bad.But we just said, look, let's
these first three games. We canyou know, live and live hopefully get
through with Robin. And did youplay another quarterback last weekend, Merley,
but kind of mop up duty atthe just thought about when we've had in
the lead, we've put him in, just get Roman out. So but
yeah, Tyler's gonna he's a goodplayer, gonna be a good player for
us. So we'll we're you know, hopefully get him back next week.

(01:41:47):
He'll go in and see doctor Wilsonon Tuesday, and and really he's the
only one, uh now that DrewDrew has been cleared. So and we
will be bulldogs. Will be athome. Yeah, first time at home
and the only one on the fourhome games this year, you know,
because because you lost that we lostthe one and had to play Thompson and
Montgomery. So so gonna come catchus. You better, you better get
it there there there you go,all right, coach, anything else,

(01:42:10):
I think we're good. All right, you got a any of the Junior
House tomorrow Middle School? Middle Schoolplays Gardner Newman. I think it's Gardener
Newman and that is Gardener Wales.Maybe Gardner, No, no, Garden.
I think it's that feeds. That'sthe color. Who do they feed
over here? One of the LaGrange Marange the true Yeah, that's a
long it's La Grange. So anyway, and then JV. Actually we played

(01:42:34):
Auburn last night, got beat bythem, but I had a fun time.
Those those are such fun games.Get the kids out there and and
have a good time to see youcoach. Thank you, se yall,
