This is Fraud Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
This week on Fraud Friday, it's the divorce scam. Some
of you might be looking for a cheap divorce. You
want to make it happen quick. You better think twice,
because I got Bread on the phone with us right now.
He is Brett. First of all, Brett, are you there?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yes, I'm here, Okay.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Brett, Welcome to Fraud Friday, my.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Man, thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
You know, these legitimate divorces, as we all know, can
run thousands of dollars. Sammy, of course, Samantha standard director
of Operations. These can run literally thousands of dollars. As
we all know, these scammers dangle low prices, they promise
fast paperwork, minimal court appearances, and like we said, it's
called the divorce scam. Do you have anything to add, Samantha.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Well, there's several things to look out for. Let's make
it a teachable moment. If you're trying to avoid this scam. Obviously,
there's a few things you want to.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
You know, double check with your attorney, like the fact
that they might actually file the paperwork. You want to
confirm that that you're actually divorced, once you actually think
you are divorced, if that makes me right, exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, And that's what happened to Brett. He didn't really
follow up on the paperwork.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
There's a quick divorce, and I really felt because of
the price, right exactly, it was going to be quick
and fast, and I attempted to, you know, move forward
with my next lady.
Speaker 6 (01:36):
Come to find out I'm well married.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
I don't mean to laugh, but you moved on to
your next lady and that's when you found out.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Yeah, it was a bit embarrassing, I'll tell you that much.
You know, you're going with the process, and when you
get there to the cloak to actually be told that
you're still married and we can't move forward, and I'm
trying to reach out, trying to reach out.
Speaker 7 (01:56):
Because you have to show proof of your divorce before
you can get a new marriage license.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
Interesting exactly, everything to me really look legit. It was
it was anutarized pocket numbers were official. Oh my god,
you had the emblem of the court system. I'm I'm
I'm just embarrassed about the whole situation. You know.
Speaker 8 (02:21):
Yeah, Now, exactly how much were you taken for Brett?
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Three dollars?
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Okay?
Speaker 8 (02:28):
Three? Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, yeah, and there you go. It's the divorce scam. Brett?
Are you ready? We're gonna get this what's his name again, Samantha,
who are we talking to?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
His name is Howard Weiss. It's Weiss and Sons out
of out of Newark.
Speaker 6 (02:42):
That is correct.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
All right, We're gonna try to get your three night.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
We're doing pretty good here on Fraud Friday, every Friday,
same time right here. We get people's money back when
they're involved in a scam. We're going to do the
same with you. I'm going to impersonate a private investigator
out of Newark. Of course, I work for you. You've hired me,
you've hired Marie. We're gonna now go for the money.
We're gonna try to get your money back. Things are
gonna get loud, Okay, Brett, So stand by, do not
say anything when I get this guy. Let's do diky.
(03:08):
Don't listen to me, do not come in until we
ask you to come in. Don't don't say anything, So
don't say Okay, don't say anything.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Next you're listening to Fraud Friday with the KTU Morning Crew.
We'll be right back with part two when Hollywood and
Marine make the call. Buckle up because things are about
to get rough.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Recorded.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Welcome back for part two for this week's Fraud Friday.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
And I may interrupt quickly. I just remember they pray
on people with no children, minimal assets. Okay, that's what
they go for, quickie easy.
Speaker 9 (03:43):
And by the way, he actually answer his own phone
when we call them. Hello, this is Howard.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Hi?
Speaker 8 (03:53):
Is this Howard.
Speaker 10 (03:56):
Cahoopy? I, oh gosh, thank you for picking up. My
name's Veronica and I'm in need of a divorce and
I'm hoping that you can help me with that.
Speaker 9 (04:08):
Did you call my mainline? How'd you get me?
Speaker 8 (04:11):
I got this from a referral. You helped a friend
of a friend go through her divorce, and I guess
you specialize in quick divorces. I am needing one quickly.
I just don't want this to continue. I'm ready to
move on.
Speaker 9 (04:30):
Let me ask you this as your husband is he
willing to not contest this.
Speaker 8 (04:35):
Oh no, he's ready to go too.
Speaker 9 (04:37):
I mean, we're wonderful. It's three ninety nine plus court costs.
We're probably the quickest in the state. If it's non contested,
we can file as soon as we get the funds.
Courk costs twenty thirty dollars usually depends what county are
you in.
Speaker 8 (04:52):
I'm in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Speaker 9 (04:55):
That's about forty.
Speaker 8 (04:57):
Okay, wait though I heard twenty thirty, and now because
I mentioned Bergen, I'm up to forty.
Speaker 9 (05:06):
Yeah, every county is different, and it may even be
fifty right now. My secretary, Freida, she knows for sure.
She's going to get you those figures as soon as
you zell Her or venmo Her, and we can reimburse
any overcharges. But the sooner you pay, the sooner we
can get this rolling. We're women with Monday through Friday
(05:26):
to file these court proceedings.
Speaker 8 (05:28):
Okay, so you tested you need the three ninety nine
and the fifty dollars.
Speaker 9 (05:34):
Absolutely, because he was guessing it, you know, remburse forty five.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
It was twenty, that was thirty, then it went to forty.
Now it's all of a sudden fifty, and.
Speaker 8 (05:43):
He says, maybe if I talked to him a.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Lifting exactly, there was a possibility of fifty. And then
he automatically just assumes it's going to be fifty dollars now, right, right, because,
like you said, the sooner he gets the payment, the
sooner he's going to be able to rip you off.
Speaker 8 (05:56):
Got exactly, And I just can't wait to be ripped off.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Right.
Speaker 9 (06:00):
Who is someone on this line?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Yes, there is somebody else on the line, Brett, come
on with us really quickly. Brett, are you there?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Hell, yes, Okay, Brett. Is this the voice of this Howard?
You canna identify Howard voice?
Speaker 6 (06:14):
I will never forget. His voice is definitely the mane
of them speaking.
Speaker 9 (06:17):
So can somebody tell me what's going on?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Howard? My name is Sean Hamilton. I'm a private investigator
here in Newark. I've been hired by Brett. This is
a man that you've been dealing with regarding his divorce
fraud that he's been involved with, and we just need
a couple of minutes of your time.

Speaker 2 (06:37):

Brett called hold on a minute. Brett called our office.
He has a lot of concerns about you know, the
paperwork that you've submitted in order to follow through with
his divorce is all fake. It's not real. None of
the paperwork is real.
Speaker 8 (06:52):
He's still married.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Okay. That was Marie. She's not Veronica. She actually works.
She's my assistant here in the office.
Speaker 9 (07:02):
I couldn't confirm this unless I saw the exact paperwork.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
I'm looking at the paperwork right now. The judge's name
is George.
Speaker 9 (07:09):
Burn I'm very familiar with Judge Burne. But if it's
coming up that he's still married, that's an error on
the court side. Those papers are legitimate.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Okay, Well, he wanted to get married again. He has
a new fiance. He went to the court. They turned
looked at him and said, these papers, this guy's still married.
Speaker 9 (07:27):
Excuse me. Can I have your new Jersey PI number?
Speaker 2 (07:31):

zero one three six. That's my NJP I number. Okay,

that you're running. You ripped him off three hundred and
ninety nine dollars. You gave him a piece of paperwork
that doesn't even look at it doesn't even I'm looking
at it right now. There's so many things wrong with
this piece of paperwork.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
You really have the audacity to ask what does he want?
He wants a divorce, and he he wants his money back.
Speaker 9 (08:40):
This is the one legitimate firm and I don't want anything.
