Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are about to hear a feature that was created
to expose the scammers, thieves, and con artists among us.
The dialogue and temperament about to be used by Hollywood
Hamilton does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of iHeartMedia.
This is Fraud Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Well, I'll tell you, we get more response at Fraud
Friday than almost any other outside of Ward A Roses.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
This is like number two. You got Roulette, karaoke, you
got tired, get fired, and then you get your Fraud
Friday's right there, and that's what we're doing. Because it's Friday.
I've got Wendy on the phone. High Wendy.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Hello, Hello by Marie.

Speaker 5 (00:35):
Hey there Wendy. What is going on? Hollywood knows a
little bit of it, but I don't know any of it.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Well, first of all, these New York City garage scams,
they're everywhere. They're hot and heavy. They couldn't be hotter
than ever.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Right now, Okay, Well, this weekend I was in New
York and I went to a garage. I thought I
was getting the early Bird special. It said six to
ten parts for four hours, twenty bucks. I'm like, oh good,
that's a good I can get all my stuff down.
While I got in there, it was nine o'clock, get
out at one. I was actually there, you know, twelve
fifty seven on time. The guy tried to charge me

(01:09):
one hundred. He did charge one hundred and sixty bucks.
I'm like, what.

Speaker 6 (01:12):
Whoa, Okay, that's.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
A lot now for what we understand, Wendy.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
You know, you come back to the car, he's not
giving you your car back, apparently until you pay one
hundred and sixty dollars. Explain how he got from that
early bird special twelve hundred and sixty dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
How is that even?

Speaker 7 (01:31):
How does it even make sense?

Speaker 4 (01:33):
I'll try to explain it. I don't even understand the
whole thing. So he said I had to be in
by six and out by ten. So he said I
had to be out by ten to get the twenty bucks.
I got there at nine, was out by one, and
he said, yeah, that's four hours, but you went past ten.
So now you have to pay twenty hours.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Right, So then what's the hourly charge? That was my
next question. What's the hourly charge?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Sixteen bucks an hour? So if my twenty bucks and
then sixteen bucks an hour, that that comed up to
what eighty four bucks?

Speaker 8 (02:07):
Right right?

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, he's getting your for another.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Now, when you went back to this guy who we're
gonna call in a minute, We're gonna call the parking garage.
We're gonna get this guy on the phone. We're gonna
threaten him like we do on Fraud Friday, every Friday.
We're gonna threaten the hell out of this guy.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
But how did he explain this to you?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Well, when you wanted your car to the garage and
he wouldn't give it to you, was it because you're
a Red Sox van and you're a Yankee town?

Speaker 4 (02:32):
But he really didn't explain it. He couldn't give me
a good answer. And I went through the math with him,
and he's like, you were here longer, it's in the
fine print. I'm like, what fine print? And you know,
this guy wasn't even mean. He was just so polite,
this condescending way. And even when I.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Got yeah, if I'm pissed and I'm yelling at you, please,
for God's sake, yell back, let's let's get it here.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Let's don't put it all on the table, get it
out exactly.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Don't be that condescendingly polite guy that think you're gonna
get over on me because you're you're a lot calmer
than me.

Speaker 7 (03:12):
Right, it just escalates you.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Right exactly.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
You wanted to go.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
And the funny thing about it is, you know, I've
had this trouble.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
You know I live you know, I live in Jersey City,
but I'm in the city a lot, and I've had
my car.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
You know, you come in from dinner.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Or something at night or what any they're overcharging you
by just enough where it's not a big hassle where
you're gonna call the cop. They know that fine, that
that amount of overcharge where you don't want to deal with.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
It, you know what the hassle, so you just pay.
But this sounds pretty egregious. He got to one hundred
and sixty bucks pretty quick, this guy. Let's find out why.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
Yeah, And when she questioned him about the how did
you come up to the he couldn't answer the question
on how he came up right?

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Read the fine print?

Speaker 7 (03:54):
Okay, what does that mean?

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Where's the fine print?

Speaker 7 (03:56):
These signs are so confusing.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
You have no idea how confusing these You did not
see the fine print behind the building that they're right
over there by the by the outhouse.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
Are we gonna call this parking garage out?

Speaker 3 (04:07):
What are we doing?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, let's we're gonna call him right now. Get him
on the phone. Go ahead, Anthony, let's get him on
the phone. Now, listen to me. We're gonna go through
our little thing that we do. Wendy, you just sit
tight and then we're gonna bring you into the fold
in a second. Okay, but we're gonna.

Speaker 7 (04:22):
But I'm sorry.

Speaker 6 (04:22):
Four hours in the city cost her one hundred and
sixty bucks to get her car back.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
It's strong.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
It's not that fifty or one hundred thousand dollars payback
that we normally get with these big real estate scams.
And what were some of the other amounts that we've
gotten our listener's back.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
We've gotten some big numbers.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
We really thousands back.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
Yeah, And it just it and it's annoying and it
gets you really really angry when it happens.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Here we go the New York City parking garage scam.
Let's get him on the phone.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
You're listening to Fraud Friday with the KTU Morning Crew.
We'll be right back with part two when Hollywood and
Marie make the call. Buckle up because things are about
to get rough.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Are you looking for something fun a little different to do?

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Hi, It's Hollywood, Hamilton. When I want to get away
and I want to do something a little different, I
find out Resorts World Casino one in the hard portions
of the following program will be recorded.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Welcome back for part two for this week's Fraud Friday.

Speaker 8 (05:29):
Thank you for calling party story previous problem.

Speaker 7 (05:32):
Hi Pablum, how are you?

Speaker 5 (05:35):
I am looking to park my car and I just
wanted to ask you some questions.

Speaker 9 (05:41):
Okay, yes, of course. How come I have you?

Speaker 5 (05:43):
Well, I'd like to drive in and I'm looking to
see if you have anything like an early Bird special?

Speaker 7 (05:50):
Do you have those?

Speaker 8 (05:51):
That's truth?

Speaker 9 (05:52):
So we have a special as far as six and
you have to be out by ten. If you hear
at six in the morning, get out by ten. It's
the smartest deal you can get. You get us at
twenty bucks.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
Okay, Well, I'm thinking of arriving around eight am and
I'm probably.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Gonna be it.

Speaker 8 (06:06):
Well, then, what you in early bird special all the way?

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (06:09):
Well, hold on, what's the early bird special rate? What's
that cost?

Speaker 9 (06:14):
The early bird special extrectly from six to ten.

Speaker 8 (06:16):
If you got here at six.

Speaker 9 (06:17):
In the morning, you are by ten in the morning,
twenty bucks either one to three you win, you out.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
Okay, twenty bucks. Great. And then if I if I
stay till.

Speaker 9 (06:24):
Noon, I charged the two hours there it is fifty
dollars times two is thirty two.

Speaker 8 (06:30):
Yeah, thirty two, so thirty two.

Speaker 7 (06:33):
So that total amount is thirty two.

Speaker 8 (06:35):
And fifty comes out to fifty two.

Speaker 7 (06:37):
Thirty two, fifty two.

Speaker 8 (06:40):
Thirty two to twenty. You got thirty two, so that's
thirty two and twenty. It's fifty two dollars.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Oh, fifty two dollars is what you're saying. Okay, And
then what if I went like past one? What would
that cost me? Would that cost me? To the point
where you is you keep my car and you won't
let me leave, and you and it becomes a big scene,
and I get really upset, and you act very passive
aggressive by doing what.

Speaker 7 (07:04):
You do and really set me off.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
Right the angry I get, the cooler you are, And
aren't you such a great person? Right? Like that like
that person, like that guy, And that would be my
parking situation with your garage.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Right, and you end up paying it because you don't
want to be bothered, right, because you're not.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
It's not really that much, but it is a lot
of money, but it's done. I always just want to
get out of here type thing.

Speaker 7 (07:28):
Yeah, exactly, that's what I mean. That's what I mean.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Sounds like this guy, It really does, Wendy. Can you
hear me?

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Yes, I can hear you.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Wendy, can you identify the voice? Is this the guy
that took advantage of you?

Speaker 4 (07:43):
Yes, it is a Pablo.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
My name is Sean Hamilton. I'm a private investigator here
in New York City. We were hired by Wendy. We
have a problem between I guess you overcharging Wendy. She
was in there this past weekend. Wendy, what type of
card were you driving? Do you can you tell him
the type of card I'm driving?

Speaker 4 (08:00):
It was a Lincoln MKZ. You remember it was blue?

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Is he there? Oh he's there? Oh you know? Yeah? Hello? Okay,
do you remember dealing over this past weekend? Do you
remember dealing with a woman by the name of Windy.
It was a blue MKZ. It was a Lincoln. Do
you remember this woman?

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Pablo?

Speaker 9 (08:19):
We have a lot of cars that come to the garage.
If you asked me if I remember a blue car,
you might as well be asking if I.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Remember right If you could just give us a couple
of minutes of your time, Pablo, I'm going to tell
you right now, this is gonna go a lot easier
for you. Okay. I don't know if it's a scam
you're personally running. Okay, hold on, hold on, I'm talking.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I don't know if this is a scam you're personally pulling,
or if your bosses are in on it, or if
your bosses even know what you're up to. Listen to
Wendy's problem she's got with you that she's had with
you over the weekend.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Go ahead, Wendy, tell him what happened.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
I was there for the early Bird special. I came
in at nine. I got in at nine. You said
I had four hours, and.

Speaker 9 (08:55):
Then okay, okay, okay, okay.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
Then remember it was one hundred and sixty dollars't give
you my keys, and you said it was one hundred
and sixty dollars, And you couldn't explain to me how
you got up to one hundred and sixty dollars you
told me at Poblo Pablo. But that time I was
so frustrated. I just paid you to get out of there,
and you.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Wouldn't give it.

Speaker 7 (09:14):
You wouldn't get it.

Speaker 8 (09:15):
We showed you.

Speaker 7 (09:16):
You held her keys. You would not give her her
keys back until she paid you the money.

Speaker 9 (09:21):
If Miss Wendy had not paid her ticket, if she
had not paid the money out to the garage, then
they will not release her cheese. It is company published.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Hey, hey, hey, how did you come to the price
of one hundred and sixty dollars exactly run out of his.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Pulled it out of his butt.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
Well, we don't understand how you got you know, early
bird special for twenty dollars. Now, okay, she was there
four hours. She was supposed to be out by ten am.
Thoughte that's one thing.

Speaker 7 (09:45):
It's sixteen dollars an hour.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
How did you get to all?

Speaker 8 (09:48):
Can you clarify just one more time? Who is this again?

Speaker 2 (09:51):
My name is Sean Hamilton. I'm a private investigator in
New York City. You were talking with a woman by
the name of Marie who works along She's also a
private investige who works with us UH and Samantha also
works in our office as well.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Tell us how you got to that rate. Tell us
how you got to the one hundred and sixty. Just
tell us how Before I come down on you like
a stack of bricks. We are, I'm gonna tell you.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
In fact, do me a favorite, Marie, Will you please
get James Otto on the phone New York City Department dB,
New York City Department of Buildings. We're gonna report this
garage immediately to James outa.

Speaker 9 (10:23):
If it's that big of an issue, we have no
problem issuing refunds. We just need to have Miss Wendy's information.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Oh really, I've never had a minage issue or refund.
I've been living in the city since nineteen eighty three.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
I've never had a garage say oh, if there's a problem,
I'm gonna give your money back.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Why, Pablo, Why all of a sudden.

Speaker 8 (10:39):
Different services that we collect are fee. There is a
service fee. There's a solicitation fee.

Speaker 9 (10:44):
There's a reschedulancy there's a customer service fee. If you
tell us you're coming back at a certain time and
you are not here, we have to pay someone to
bob fee.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
That's what I think. It's a fee.

Speaker 6 (10:57):
It's surge pricing from problem right.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
Interesting, I bet you the boss doesn't know about that
particular fee, does he?

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Does he?

Speaker 9 (11:12):
Why don't you come by the garage. I'll hook you
up with a two week past for you can park
all week long for free as long as you want.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Just want my money back.

Speaker 9 (11:22):
Maybe we just get her whole, her whole experience refunded,
some type of refund back to your.

Speaker 8 (11:26):
By doubt it would be the full them out.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
I want the whole thing that we are gonna shut
your garage down. You have no idea how far we're
going to go here.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
The whole place is gonna get shut down. You're gonna
lose your job, Pablo, Do you realize what's happening right now?
You're jeopardizing this entire establishment, and your boss probably doesn't
even know that you're doing this.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
You're in a lot of hot water here.

Speaker 7 (11:48):
And we all know that times are tough.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
But you can't be taking advantage of people like that,
all right, because Wendy is trying to make ends meet too.

Speaker 9 (11:57):
We try our best to satisfy our customers to okay,
but we cannot be helped for our customers just not
reading the fine print. If oh god, okay, all.

Speaker 2 (12:08):

making some phone calls right now, probably by the end
of today. Not going to have a job because everybody.
I don't know how many parking garages your company owns.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
I want you to think about that as well. This
is gonna get really, really bad.

Speaker 7 (12:28):
It's gonna get ugly.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
She wants her money back. I'm gonna give you one
more chance. I don't want to hear any of your
bullsh about fine print or you should have been out
by here.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
You should have been by bye bye.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
I want one hundred and sixty dollars right now for
miss Wendy. I want that to come out of your
mouth right now. If not, we're going right to the
New York City Department of Buildings at dB and mister
James Otto right now today.
