to expose the scammers, thieves, and con artists among us.

This is Fraud Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Here we go, this week's Fraud Friday, the Hollywood Hamilton
Show on the k T Morning Crew. I've got Madeline
on the phone with me right now, Marie. Yeah, she's
been taken, she's been scammed. She was part of a
financial advisor scam. She's a little destroyed. We've been trying
to get her on the phone now for over a week,
and she finally said, yes.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Could you share with all of us what exactly you
been going through?

Speaker 4 (00:44):
Okay, you know, my mother left me money, Marie.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
I don't think Marie knew this, but her mother passed
away not too long ago.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Oh, I'm so sorry.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
We were helping my mom set up you know, accounts
and stuff right shen't had much of a pension anything
like that. And she really liked this guy, Dave that
she'd been working with. You know, I called the firm
Dave to go into this.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
This is the guy. This is obviously everyone to get
you caught up really quickly. This is the guy that
represented her mother. And tell everyone what they told you
when you were looking for day your mom's financial advisor.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Well, when I called, they were kind of hesitant, and
I said, what did Dave leave? And he died yesterday?
And I'm like, he's sick, you know, and they said no, no, no,
he had a heart attack.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
At his death.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
He had a heart attack at his desk.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Oh yea died at his desk.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Sad crazy.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
And I wasn't too happy with the guy who took
over Dave's account, you know. So I was at a
party and you know, I was talking to this one guy.
He says, oh, he says, I know somebody who might
be able to handle your account.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Oh boom. And that's when it happened.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Because it's a small firm like you, Like we met
the lunch. Over lunch, he's showing me, you know, like
the portfolios, and you know he would he would do
it for me.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Okay, all right, Madelin. You never met him at an office,
is that correct?

Speaker 5 (02:15):
Right?

Speaker 4 (02:15):
And over lunch he's showing me, you know, the various
things he can do for me what kind of fun works.
And you know, normally he'd have people come, you know,
to his office. He has a home office in Long Island,
and he says, it's easier for me, you know, I
just come back.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
It's very important to know. So here, he stated to you,
because I'm going to use this when I want to
get some of your money back. He stated to you
that he has a home in Long Island. Is that
what he said? That's where he lived.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Yeah, home, you know, Long Island City.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Okay, estee, Okay, So you met this guy, you lost
exactly how much money?

Speaker 4 (02:52):
All told about? One hundred and twenty five thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Okay, okay, thousand dollars. So now after you invested with
this guy, this financial advisor, he's not returning your calls
or emails, right, He's gone.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Okay, right, And I gave your producer his number yesterday.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
What we do is we change our caller. I d yeah,
I actually changed into a police pracingt in Queen's the
one five. I'd pick up an NYPD call. I just
asked for a different person and then I said, oh, sorry,
you know, a wrong number. And that was the end
of it. Lots smarter than I thought, lots smarter than thought.

(03:33):
The police might be good for future forduct. All right,
let's get back on track here, Madeline. Is there anything
else you could tell us about this guy that would
give me ammunition to threaten him? Did he tell you
anything about his personal life?

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Oh? Let me think. Uh. I know he's got a dog,
because when we would talk, I heard barking in the background,
and I say, what kind of dog you got? I'm
a dog lover. He says, I got a drive a shepherd.
His name is Stanley, which I think.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I think that. Okay, what about a car? What about
did you notice that he drove off in a car?

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Yeah? He drove one of a monster like Escalot, you know,
one of those Cadillacs, the big.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Truck, escalaid escalade.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
I think she's trying to say how you found out
you were being taken advantage of and ghosted you because
you went to go wanting to make a withdrawal from
one of the investments. It's for a condo you mentioned.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Go down payment.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yeah, all right, all right, here we go, Here we go.

some help I have. I've got about one hundred thousand
dollars and I need some assistance on how to handle
this and what I should do with it because I'm

of that name. Oh well, he gave me your number

that money into mutual funds, we can use bonds, we
can use a cash account. We can actually maybe do
some investing into some of the foreign markets that exist
out there. You probably are aware of the things that
are happening right now in China and India, the countries
they call the brick countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China, Korea. Uh,
those countries are really on the up and ups. There's

(07:17):
a lot of options to be able to make a
lot of money that way, government bonds, things of that sort.
