Speaker 1 (00:03):
You are about to hear a feature that was created
to expose the scammers, thieves, and con artists among us.
The dialogue and temperament about to be used by Hollywood
Hamilton does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of iHeartMedia.
This is fraud Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Murray, guess what we're covering today this Friday? What what
are we covering today?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
One of the most notorious scams in the city are
these fake Buddhist monks.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
These guys going.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Around in orange robes claiming to be Buddhist monks. Yeah,
handing tourists different objects.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah, I got in Central Park, I got hit.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
I don't know if it was a flower.

Speaker 5 (00:44):
Or some braided bookmark or some and he was like, oh,
would you like some peace? And I go get away
from me.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
I gotta go to work.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I did not know this, but panhandling in New York
City is actually legal as long as the person isn't
acting aggressively. A lot of these Buddhist monks, they play
Buddhist monks, they're very aggressive there. First of all, they're
not much down, and then if you refuse them, they
run after a lot of the people and they just
won't stop, they grab you, they manhandle you.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
They so much for peace and love, exactly, exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Well, today this Friday, on Fraud Friday, we got Tammy
out of Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
She's a brand new listener. Tammy, are you there?

Speaker 6 (01:24):
Hi?

Speaker 7 (01:24):
I am here.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
First of all, thank you for becoming a brand new listener.
How'd you become a listener living in Buffalo? What's going
on over there?

Speaker 7 (01:31):
Yeah? No, my sister Page lives in Queens and she
listens to you guys, So she's got me hooked.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Thank you for listening to us on the iHeartRadio app.
We really do appreciate it. Now, Tammy, why don't you
take us through him approaching you? How much money you
gave him, so on and so forth.

Speaker 7 (01:46):
So I I'm shocked. I'm still shocked by the whole thing.
So I was in Times Square because my sister was
still at work, and my sister Paige and I we
went to this highland light two years ago and like
visited all these times and whatnot.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
And I thought, whoa, So you had a little eat
prey love experience with your sister.

Speaker 7 (02:07):
Uh basically yeah, oh nice care Yeah, and just not
comes up to me and we already have this connection
because again, I fall in love in Thailand, right, like,
I just am obsessed. So he comes up. You know,
he's telling me how he's raising money for you know,
his family. They're building this pencil. He's offering this coin
and just how the coin will provide like love anything.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Olo.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
It was a it was a can you do me
a favorite really quickly? Tammy, can you send us that picture?
I want to post it right now on my Instagram
onto Hollywood Hamilton, Hollywood Hamilton on Instagram. Yeah, so he
gave you this medallion. And what did he tell you
about the medallion?

Speaker 7 (02:43):
He says it can offer me like prosperity and happiness
and love. I'm so taken by this moment.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
We have this connection, right, Tammy gave him one hundred
dollars film right now.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Normally it's about twenty five at the most. But Tammy,
she felt moved.

Speaker 7 (02:59):
And I just wanted to help, and that was all
the cash I had.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
So you gave him a hundred bucks, Honey, really, I mean,
not a five.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
It's Tammy. It's Tammy out of Buffalo by.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
The experience, Marie.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Look at Anthony. Anthony's laughing in the corny I.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Just want to take Tammy out on a date, to
be honest, hold and caress her, and yes, I understand.

Speaker 7 (03:23):
Okay. So after I gave him, you know, the one
hundred dollars and he riched it on my hands, which
was a shock. Yeah, I said, hey, if there's anything
else I could do, let me know. So he gave
me a business card. So this way I can reach
out and help more.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Oh, you can give them more hundreds.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yes, you only lose what you cling to, Marie. Right,
you rule your mind, it will rule you.

Speaker 7 (03:46):
So then I called my sister Paige. She told me
I was stupid and it's a scam. I I really
thought I was helping someone here. I just I just
I don't know what to do. I'm a good person.
I didn't know this is a I just I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Okay, all right, all right, all right, is not alone.
She is not the only one who have fallen for this.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
So here we are. We're gonna be right back. We're
gonna call this guy because apparently, as we talked about
a minute ago, he handed Tammy a card.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
On that card was a number. The sister made her
call again.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
With sister on the other line, that's when sister concurred
that the guy's fake because his accent was just all wrong.
Then yesterday, producer Anthony called out to the guy and
the guy actually answered.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
I gave him a call. He picked up the phone
and he just sounded like a normal New Yorker. He
didn't sound oh yeah. And I even asked for the person.
I said it as as a Nada and then.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
He just because Anada was the guy in the card, right, yeah, exactly, yeah,
oh god, so.

Speaker 7 (04:51):
Yeah, I don't know. I was just hoping if I
could get my money back like I lost it.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
All right, let's go, let's go, let's go.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
You're listening to Fraud Friday with the Kite. You Morning crew.
We'll be right back with part two when Hollywood and
Marie make the call. Buckle up because things are about
to get rough. Welcome back for part two for this
week's Fraud Friday.

Hello, Hi, Anata, Yes Hi, it's TMM. How are you okay?

Speaker 2 (05:42):

Speaker 7 (05:44):
The medallion has meant so much to me since you've
given it to me.

Speaker 6 (05:49):
I am glad that you are enjoying the medallion.

Speaker 7 (05:52):
Just I want to be able to do more to
help to build that temple. I've just really moved by
your story, so I just wanted to call.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
Back love and peace and prosperity to you. The temple
is very very important to my family. We've been working
very hard to make it into spectacular place for the worship.

Speaker 7 (06:17):
And I just don't know what you needed for me
and how I can help.

Speaker 6 (06:21):
We still have millions to go. These temples are not
cheap to build, you know, so we are looking for
maximum amount of donations.

Speaker 7 (06:31):
How much Nata with our.

Speaker 6 (06:33):
Thoughts, we can change the world.

Speaker 7 (06:37):
I want to help. Is it giving five hundred dollars?
Is it giving three hundred dollars?

Speaker 6 (06:43):

given the medallion to the right one. Yes, five hundred.
