to expose the scammers, thieves, and con artists among us.

This is Fraud Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
It's k T the Hollywood Hamilton Show on the k
T Morning Crew. It's time once again fraud Friday.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Marie.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
In the last seven eight weeks, we've covered so many
different crimes, so many different frauds.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
And I really didn't know that there was a such
thing as the rental scam, the rental fraud.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
Yeah, that's still going on.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I got Amy from Atlanta's Well, she's in Brooklyn now
by way of Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Amy, Are you there?

Speaker 5 (00:45):
Yeah, I'm here.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
She shows up at a property, a rental that she
had worked out with a real estate agent, to find
out that the entire thing was a scam.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
It was all fraud. No, and she's sitting in Brooklyn
right now, is it Canarcie? Amy?

Speaker 5 (01:04):
Yeah, my U haul is in the parking lot.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Are you living in your car right now?

Speaker 5 (01:09):
I mean what No, I'm in a motel. But the
U haul is like in the parking lot, and I
just I'm running out of money, so I'm just freaked out.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
All right, all right, all right, big shout to your
friend Tracy for tipping you off to the show. Tracy's
a friend of Amy's, and that's how Amy got ahold
of us.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
Could you walk us through how this whole thing started.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
Yeah, So I was on Craigslist and I got in
touch with this woman and everything seems like it was
completely on the up and up. And so I went
through the whole thing and like got photos back and
I knocks on the door. There was no lock box,

(01:55):
and the people who came to the door, like no
one knew what the hell I was doing there, like
nobody knew who I was.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Right, Okay, And I just she paid first last security deposit,
a broker's fee.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
It came to seventy three hundred dollars.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Whooo, So tell us about this real estate agent. I mean,
what's their story.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
So it's this woman and she said her name is Gabby,
and we talked for like two weeks. She sent me
virtual tours. Everything looked like it was on the up
and up. I paid first last security, broker's fee and
an application fee with a new whole thing. And then
I show up and it was the same building.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
The photos that were sent to you were the same
as what the exterior of the apartment that you Yes, Wow.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
She's not answering the phone, she's not returning my email,
like nothing, and I just feel sick, and I don't
have a place to live, and like, I just so
my friend and I we both jumped on Craiglist and
we were looking in the like similar area and just
calling random numbers for like, we called like fifteen or

(03:05):
sixteen different places like real estate, and we finally found
this woman who answered as Gabriella.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
It was the same woman, the same Wow, what a
genius idea.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
They're scouring craigslist, but that was smart.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
They're hunting the predators.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Now, this is a different number than the number you were.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
Yeah, that number is now disconnected.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
And it says here in the email that you sent
in order to get on the show. Your friend called
her and just hung up. So we have a number,
then we have a valid number to call right now.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah, how lucky are you?

Speaker 4 (03:37):
I know? Right?

Speaker 5 (03:38):
Yeah, it only costs me seventy three hundred dollars lucky.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
All right, all right, Amy, Amy, I'm sorry what you're
going through. Here's the deal.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
We have an eighty eighty five percent success ratio. Okay,
we either get partially your money back or we get
some of your money back. We're gonna unload on this
woman if we can get her on the phone. We're
gonna absolutely unload on her. Okay, Okay, We're just gonna
threaten her beyond.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
Yeah, I'm okay, all right, Okay, here we go, Here
we go.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
You're listening to Fraud Friday with the KTU Morning Crew.
We'll be right back with part two when Hollywood and
Marie make the call. Buckle up because things are about
to get rough. Welcome back for part two for this
week's Fraud Friday.

talking about.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
You know who this woman is. You've been dealing with
this woman for the last two weeks. You're part of
a fraud operation. In a minute, you're probably gonna to
ask yourself, Wait a minute, you're gonna put two and

start calling people. We're gonna start having people knocking on

(08:52):
your front door. We're gonna trace you down.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
You owe me seventy three hundred dollars, and if you
don't give it back soon, you're also going to owe

had to spend on this hotel.

Speaker 2 (09:04):

and she's here in a U haul, and you owe money.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
The apartment is rented to someone else.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
She's not saying anything. She knows exactly what.

Speaker 6 (09:17):
I don't know what you want from me. I didn't
scam you at all. Okay. If you want your money
back because you couldn't make it in New York City,
then she went.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
To the address that you gave her. You told her
that there was a lock box.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
I'm not teasing it for what I'm not If she
couldn't figure things out, then I mean.

got this.

further criminal charges.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
