was my first concert that I ever went to, so
I am a blockhead.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
There is a generation, a great, beautiful, wonderful generation of
first concert goers that you know, cut their teeth on us.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
So that's that's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Now.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
I heard that you were nominated for Sexiest Fierro in
this year's People magazine.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I heard.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I heard that too.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
I've been voting every day on my laptop and they
only let you vote twenty times, so that's it. Hopefully
I'll get more than twenty votes. I mean, it's sweet.
It's a I mean, there's a lot going on with
Wicked in the movie, and it's such a beautiful you know,
heritage to be a part of, you know, And it's
been a while since I did it, but I did
(01:08):
it with Dina Menzel who originated and I was the
second fierro in and it's a it was my Broadway debut,
so it was a wonderful time.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Well, how does it feel I have been nominated? I
know that Jonathan Bailey appeared.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
I mean I listen, I love people. I mean People
is like a yearbook for me. It's like, my this
is your life. You could go back and they've been
wonderful to me and I they it's lovely.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
But you know, nominated.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
You know, I'm not going to brag about a you know,
People magazine nomination. You talk about Tony's or oscars, you know,
but no, I look, you know what's great about People?
The horoscope I just discovered the Well, I sign up
because I was voting for myself.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
And you sign up and you start.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Getting emails, and then I was like, I'm unsubscribing to
most of it except for the horoscopes.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
They nail it every time. It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Well, you know who they crowned for this year's winner?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Right?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Did you hear? Because it just got announced. Oh John Krasinski.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
What a guy.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Well you know he he We knew he hit the
jackpot a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Now he's making movies and directing and writing, and he's
got that beautiful wife of his.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
So not not a bad guy to give it to me.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Of course. Now I know you're living here in New
York City because you got a lot going on, which
we're going to talk about. Before I get into that,
tell us some of your favorite places that you found
so far in the city.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
In the city, well, I've been I used to live
in Tribeca years ago in my twenties, and then I've
been back and forth, and my wife grew up in
Lincoln Center and we moved back to New York for
a while. So but when people ask me that I'm great,
I'll tell you the high Line is amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
I saw you'd posted a picture by the Pigeon.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, you have to go to the high Line and
then really I don't like giving my spots away actually,
which is so lame, but I will for you, thank you.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
There is a it's called City Thrift.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
It is the most bespoke boutique thrift shop right out
in the high Line. It's twenty sixth Jesse Ease of
tenth and all the proceeds go to the City Opera.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Oh very and it's gorgeous. You're a thrifter, I I yeah,
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Well, there's a place in La called jet Rag and
I go there because they have the coolest stuff, you know,
for videos or shoots.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
So you want that kind of you want to mix
it up, you know. And so this place has it all.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
It has furniture and clothes and shoot, it's great.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
So now we know where you're going a little shop
doing your shopping. Yeah, right now, and that exactly we
know where to find you.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Now.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
With the holidays coming around, obviously New York City is
known for the best when it comes to the holiday decorations.
And you're gonna also be at the Macy's things, Giving
Day parades, things off so cool. What's going to be happening?
Are you performing? Are you just going to be waving?
Speaker 3 (03:50):
I'm gonna be doing all of that.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I'm on the Brox Candy, So it's this beautiful float
and we'll be waving all the way to Harold Square
and then we're gonna perform. I'm gonna perform my single
from the Christmas movie that we wrote for the Christmas movie.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
It's called the Brand New Christmas.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, for the Roku movie Jambo Bella. Yeah, tell us
about this song.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Well's it was very cool to actually write a song
for a movie. Speaking of nominations, technically I'd be up
for an Oscar but I don't know if Roku channel
Christmas movie is gonna get that kind of.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Attention to phone calls. But no, it was really cool to.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Kind of actually write for a specific you know, storyline,
and me and my my writing partner, Sean Thomas, we
just kind of it made it a lot easier.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
It's a beautiful song.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
And I got Joshana Bean speaking of nominations, two times.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Tony nominee in the last three years.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
She's in Hell's Kitchen right now, so she partnered up
on me on the duet. I love the song and
it's all about you know, teeing up jingle Bell Love
on the ROCU channel that comes out November eighteenth, So
that's exciting.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Now, if people want to see you performing here in
the city, they can do so because you're in Drag
the Off Runway Musical over at New World stage. So
I heard that you just extended your run a.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Couple of weeks. Yes, I until December ninth. It's been wonderful.
We opened in October and reviews have been great and
people are starting to you know, obviously the queer community
kind of boosted us off. You know, we had a
great support system there, but now people are finding out
the other circles, the outer circles. And it's a great show.
(05:32):
It's fun and has a lot of heart entertaining.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Yeah, for those who aren't familiar with it, like what's
the show about it?
Speaker 2 (05:39):
So you know a lot of people say, oh, Drag
the musical. They think they're getting like a drag brunch
or something like that.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
That's what pictures and it.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Really is, and I mean it's a serious soundtrack. You
do have some very world famous queens, but they are
and they are so talented, great actors. And then I
play I played the straight man. Actually I play the
only straight man Drag.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Though.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
No I'm not in Dragon, not not even a little bit.
But I play a dad who's well, the one of
the queens is my brother and we don't get along.
We haven't talked for years, but he needs help because
I'm an accountant and he needs.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Help with his his drag houses.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, the drag houses are going under, and I'm I
try to save one of them. But I also have
a son who I'm a single dad, and my ulterior
motive is, yeah, I don't know quite how to handle
it because he's kind of exploring who he is and he's,
you know, wearing pink and playing dress up, and so
I think, even though I don't get along with my brother,
(06:42):
I have ulterior motives because.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I need help.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
And it's it's a lovely story. At the end of
the day, you're just going to have a great time,
but it does have a lot of heart.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Oh my goodness. I'm definitely coming to see it, please,
and I'm coming to see it before you are all.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
You're gonna love it, yes, please, please do.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
After this run on Drag you're gonna be basically heading
out to Vegas because you guys on the block. You
guys have your residency at the park. MGM. Congratulations kicks
up in June. I love it. How excited are you?
Speaker 3 (07:06):
It's wonderful. I mean, we we uh you know, if
you look at.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Some of the videos that we posted while we were
announcing it.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
We look like, you know, a bunch.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Of hoodlums ready to take over the Vegas Strip because
we were just you know, excited at the opportunity and
to be doing it as long as we have been
doing it and still have other things to accomplish and explore.
I think we're very excited about that. I mean, all
the bells and whistles and to build a show that
(07:35):
you know, we can sit down with is very exciting.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
I mean, did you think you would be doing this
after thirty years? And I hate that number, but it's
just wild even more than that.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Actually, I know, I don't like throwing around the numbers either.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Don't we get.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Younger?
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Some of the other guys say, you know, throw the
numbers around. I'm like, don't, don't. Why are you gott
to bring that up? We know how old we are now,
that's just that's just my ego. No, we're so we're
so lucky and our fans, you know, that's the beauty
of you know, you guys were so young back then.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
And I'm still so young you are, No, but that's
my point.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
That's my point. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
I mean I look at you and like and so
many fans, you're like, wow. You know, back then we're like,
they're five years old. We want to be teenagers in
rock and roll. But now it's like it worked out,
you know, because we have this youth and energy, and
I think we always will because we give each other
license to just be kids.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
What can we expect to see at the show?
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Oh? God, are you take it?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I mean obviously taking it back with the old stuff? Yeah,
remember the news.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
We always we always deliver the hits, you know, and
we always you know, work out that nostalgia and and
play to it, and then we're lucky enough to you know,
write a lot of new music. And you know, we
just had to release an album last year, Kids. The
single Kids is the top ten hit, and so we
(09:02):
have a lot of catalog to work out.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
But we always, you.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Know, there's those ten hits from back in the day
that we got to play and then the rest we
kind of just get creative and see how we can
spin it.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Oh my goodness, it's going to be amazing. And I
heard you have a new album also coming out in
early twenty twenty five. Ye you tell us about that.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, So we're announcing that November twenty fifth, so to
pre order and pre save. And yeah, it's a new album.
It's called Freedom, and I'm super super excited and satisfied
with the whole the whole thing. It's it's nice to
make something and accomplish it and now I'm ready to
share it with everybody.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Is it a story of what?
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Well, I think freedom is a big term, right. Freedom
can be like freedom, you know what I mean? But
I think freedom is for me a very personal journey
for all of us. Right, It's like, what does freedom
mean to all of us?
Speaker 3 (09:51):
You know? That could be a very small thing.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
That could be you know, planting a garden, or that
could be you know, sending a rocket to the moon.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
It's just saying yes to whatever that authentic voice is
inside you. And well, I I think it's a little
bit somewhere between a garden and a rocket rocket ship,
you know.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
It's it's.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's I think, balancing everything. You know, I've been so
blessed in my career. Certainly New Kids is is like
family to me. And and it's going strong, and we're
we're in Vegas. We just somehow keep climbing and and
it's very challenging and I get so much out of it.
And there's also can I can I balance that? Can
I still carve out time for me, which you know,
(10:38):
I think a lot of people can relate to. So
that's sort of what that is, and and it's it
can be big, but it's really kind of personal and
quiet in the same way. I just did it on
a new album, so it's gonna sound big, but it's
just yeah, I mean, I'm I'm excited and I'm I'm
thrilled in a way that you know, I just have
(11:01):
to show up and do the footwork and it'll get
out there amazing.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Well, we can't wait to check that out. Also, we're
going to check you out on the Broadway musical Macy
Thanksgiving Day, Perene going out to Vegas. We got to
see our blockheads, Yeah, all of ours on the block fun.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
We're so excited that you guys are excited. And yes,
because you never know, you know what I mean, We
every tour everything we announced, you know, we try to
plan it right and you know, kind of hold our
breath and you guys keep showing up.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
So thank you so much, Joined McIntyre for stopping by, Katie.
We love you, yeah,
