Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, I'm here with Palm Beach Passion players, Brandy
(00:03):
and Melissa of the a v P, which is the
Association of Volleyball Professionals. How you guys doing today?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Yeah, you're enjoying the weather in New York.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Now let's get past that and let's get to the
hard hitting questions here. Do you believe in women's rights?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Okay. I was just making sure. I wanted to make
sure that you Yeah, I wanted to make sure you
guys were were for the people. You know what I mean.
I don't want you. I don't want to see if
you opposes. So now where you guys are from? Palm
Beach of course, or Palm Beach posers?
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Oh my god?
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Okay, So now where you guys? Where are your hometown's from?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Originally from Toronto, Canada, So I'm not far from here.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
It don't sound like it.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
How about your Brandy.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Say, I grew up in Toronto.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Oh so what is is volleyball a big thing in Toronto?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
We're making it a big we're trying to do.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Okay, Now, now you're on camera, so I can't really
tell how tall you guys are how what what are
we talking?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I'm like five eleven, I'm like five.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
You guys, you guys aren't freakishly big.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, I bet, I bet you can listen. I'm five ten,
but I definitely can't spike a ball with ferocity, and
I'm sure you guys could get it done. So now
it's two women, right, two on two. I've seen it
in I believe the Olympics. I've seen it, which is
pretty badass. And every probably I thought I saw too, Like,
(01:35):
you know, we had looking women on the screen at
one point. You guys, you know Toronto people. You know,
you guys aren't really renowned beauty different there. Yeah, I know.
It must do something to the skin. I don't know
what it is. So now you guys have two games
coming up Saturday and Sunday. Now, what is the process
for this? Is this like a champ not a championship,
But like, is it an elimination one game or it's
(01:57):
just two regular season games? Kind of?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's two regular season games.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
We played two previously and we're just finishing up our
last two this weekend. We're hoping to qualify for the championship. Weekend,
which is in Chicago labor Dy Weekend, I believe. So
we want to get these w's. We want to be
one of the top ranked women's teams, so we make
it into the semifinals.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
But yeah, we're here to kick some asks.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Oh I like that. I like that. Listen. I thought
you guys were going to be the New York Nitro,
But honestly, I think I'm a Palm Beach pat I
love the name Palm Beach Passion. They should have a
drink called the Palm Beach Passion. That sounds like it
would be a good drink.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
We will make it.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
We will make it.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, come up with something but like the cocoa in
it or something like that to color.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah. So now it's just you two guys on the
Palm Beach Passion. Is it a rotation? Like? How do
they how do they have teams like that?
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:46):
The league is really interesting where there's a tandem men's team.
So we have another two men's got men's team that
also represent Palm Beach and all eight cities also have
men in but we're the only women's team.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
So it's two women's versus two women and then two
men versus two men, but we play collectively at Palm Beach.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, okay, okay, and now do you guys ever do
like like in tennis where it's one man one woman.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Never, No, that's new, that's different.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Okay, okay, we're gonna have to look yeah yeah, oh yeah,
you know what, because they're they're even more freakish to men, right,
the volleyb women interesting.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
I feel like women are really good at one skill
that does not help men, and then men are really
good at one skills.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
What are those skills?
Speaker 4 (03:26):
I would argue that women's serving and ball control is insane.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Were men serving sandwiches or I'm joking with you, I
hope you really aren't taking any of this to offense.
You know, it's just good old male jokes, you know
what I mean. We're not really that funny for women.
But so you think women are good at serving more?
What finness or power or what's the deal?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
I think why people love watching women's game is because
there's so many rallies, there's such ball control, there's a
lot more the strategy difference, kind of rhythm in the
hitting and stuff, where men you find more of the
power hitting.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, it's done.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
In one rally.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, I really don't.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
You know, men are scared of women's serves because our
serves are so like, they're fast, they're precise. We could
serve any target on the core, and men don't like that.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
We're scared see your serve.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
We're scared of a lot of things you could do. Okay,
So it just follows up with volleyball. So now your
first game on the nineteenth, let me see into my
notes here, the first game on the night so both
both days of the nineteenth and the twentieth and the nineteenth,
all girls right here are looking to smoke the San
Diego Smash at eight pm a nighttime game, you guys
a gonna be under the lights.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Hume the light Central.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, Roman, hot and steamy, and it's gonna stink for sure.
This isn't the Central Park you see on movies. This
is the real Central Park. Okay, it doesn't smell that good.
And then Sunday at noon, all right, that's that's pretty
rough though from APM, how long did these matches go for?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Okay, so these games a little bit quicker, so thankfully
we'll be okay in the dead of the but it's
about thirty minutes per game, thirty forty five.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
All right, so I'm houick we can beat somebody.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Now. My thought was the late eight pm game into
the noon tomorrow that I thought you weren't going to
get too much.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Rest's with that schedule. Honestly, I'm I'm happy about that.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah, and I bet you they set up the New
York Nightrail really nice. Huh.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
They sure did home the home court advantage, so you
know what, they get to get theirs.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
We got ours, so we love they used.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
To the stench, but then again, you guys are from Toronto.
I'm probably sure it doesn't smell that good up there. Now,
what is your record on the year so far? Because
this is now what this is the sixth event?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Correct, Yeah, we're five and one. We're five and one.
We've gone on the last five games, so we're gonna
keep rolling with that.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
A couple of bridges that could play volleyball, I got huh, listen,
I honestly, you know what, now that I've met you
guys and I have like a personal relationship, I think
I am going to be interested to come and watch Brandy.
You have like the literally your face and hair screams brandy.
It looks like you just go into the beach and
let the beach just ruffle your hair. The skin tone,
(06:02):
the skin tone and the blonde is just so brandy, Melissa.
I love the hat and you got you guys literally
look like damon advice? What's what? Not even not even
fashion advice?
Speaker 2 (06:14):
I want to go.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
You guys look like a mix between semi pro. You know,
semi pro, yeah that will Will Farrell, but yeah, and clueless,
like if they made a mass of semi pro. You
know what I mean, You got the cuteness of clueless,
but you got like, I don't know, something's funny about
you guys, about like semi pro.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (06:34):
I think I think you guys got so listen. I
will be there. Let me say Sunday at noon. Maybe
I could make the Sunday at noon one. I have
to film something.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Yeah, game, we played those girls at the Olympics. You
have a good rivalry against them.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Oh yeah, and how freakishly told of those two?
Speaker 4 (06:52):
You know, one of them is definitely much taller than
the tallest one on tour.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
I'm gonna, I'm gonna right before I get there, you know,
you know Manhattan's got a lot of these stores. I
don't know if I could say this, but like stripper
stores will get you really high stilettos. All right, we'll
see somebody spike on you in twelve inch stilettos. All right,
we'll see the team, we'll see and we'll see how
it's sticks in the stand.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, I'm one hundred percent of Palm Bey's passion. Girls,
thank you so much for your time, and I really
do look forward to seeing you this weekend. Hopefully you
guys recognize me in the stands.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Absolutely all right, Okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Thank you so much. Go go go practice and do
your thing. I'll be there routing.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Thank you. We'll see you then.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Much love girl, Bye bye,
