The Concours consists of a weekend of events for car lovers and culminates in the Cincinnati Concours d’ Elegance. Cars are displayed in the formal gardens of historic Ault Park, with a classic pavilion overlooking the show field, hosting an automotive art show, brunch and beer garden and all of this benefits the Cincinnati Arthritis Foundation, with a special focus on Juvenile Arthritis (JA).

My guest is Julie Wyte, Executive Director of Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
We are back on Sandy Collins. This is iHeart since,
a public affairs program produced here in Cincinnati for the
tri State and you know so excited. Summer is of
honus Now. The first day is officially Friday, June twentieth,
which coincidentally is my daughter's twenty sixth birthday. Ikes today,
my guest is the executive director of Cincinnati Concourse Deleganz

(00:23):
is Julie White. It is a world class auto show
with vehicles that you'll see up close and nowhere else.
And we've got all the details here in the next
fifteen minutes. Welcome to the show. We call iHeart since
this is a public affairs show that I wanted to
talk to you about Concourse de Legance, which gives everyone

(00:43):
the opportunity to speak French and and see some gorgeous cars.
And we're talking about a classic car show. But this
is a world class event. This year's theme is the
Icons of British Mode Ring. You've got more than two
hundred cars lined up. Tell us about the cars, how

(01:05):
they're judged, and how does that all tie together for
the Arthritis Foundation.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I'll start with basically who and what we are. This is,
This is our forty seventh year. It's really fantastic program.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
To be involved with.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
And this will be my fourth show coming up, so
still around here, I'm still fairly new.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Unfortunately, there's there's a lot of guys who have been
around forever.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
And we support the Arthritis Foundation and very specifically, we
help pay for and we fund a camp for children
who have arthritis and their families so they all get
together in the Tri state area and spend a week
together and you know, learn about their disease and feed
off of each other and really connect in ways that
really beneficial for these families. And we are really proud

(01:51):
to support that my Concord Elegance. These these have been
around for years and like what they do at Pebble
Beach and Amelia Island, and we're really fortunate to have
that here.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
In Cincinnati and to be to be getting the same cars.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
It's really pretty phenomenal that these cars are just the
best of the best of the best, really and we
actually get those same exact vehicles that are brought in
by these car owners. So it's a special treat for
people here in Cincinnati to be able to see and
to get up close and personal with these vehicles today.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
The doors open at ten o'clock, goes till four year
at all Park. Tell us about what people can expect.
What kind of special cars do you have this year?
That might entice a few people to say, oh, I
want to see that.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
We have an amazing James Bond tribute card coming. Somebody
has put a lot of money into refurbishing one of
these and making it really just kind of tricking it
all out. It does a smoke screen, it has machine
gun zounds that go off, and just it's just really
a pretty We're not going to actually fire those that day,
not to worry everyone, but it will. It does a

(03:01):
lot of really fun things and we're really blessed to
have that being, you know, him coming to show that
to us here at.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
The park, Julie. Are people allowed to get in these
vehicles or is it just look see don't touchy?

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, it's more luck don't touch.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Some of these vehicles are extremely expensive, so they tend
they tend not to do.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
You know which one is the most expensive at all?
Can you tell?

Speaker 3 (03:25):
I think the most most expensive one we've ever had.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
I don't know which one this time, but a couple
of years ago We had one that sold for about
fifty one dollars.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
So some of these are some pretty amazing vehicles, so
they don't they don't let us get into them.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
So no.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
So with free parking, there's a shuttle service at the
fifth third Bank Operations Cenatre on Duck Creek Road. You
can park your car, get a free shuttle free parking
over to the event at all Park. U tell us
a little bit about this one of a kind experience
that you're promising. What makes it so unique.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
I think that it's a family affair. What I love
most about it. We have got some really special things.
We do something for the children. It's called the Legacy
Library and all these owners have been collecting you know,
books and magazines and hot wheels and memorabilia for many
many years.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
To get the young children.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Involved, all they have to do is walk up to
the Legacy Library for free. They love to pass us
on to the to the next generation, so that's that's fun.
We also have this amazing program called the Haggarty Youth Program.
You sign up ahead of time and we let a
group of kids sponsored by our wonderful partners Haggarty. But
they they get to go judge a car. They get

(04:38):
to come in and they kind of show them how
how it happens and what it takes to be you know,
a wonderful world class car.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Correct.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
So anyway, so that's that's another way to get the
children involved and they get to those those kids do
get to get into the vehicle and really kind of
learn all about you know, the vehicles that they're judging.
So and then they also get an award at the
end of the day, whatever ones they whatever, chever ones
they pick.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, so it's it's a really great program.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
We have a craft beer gardens and bourbon tasting, so
that's going to be a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Julie, hang on a minute, you got my attention. There
bourbon and beer garden.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Okay, go ahead, Yes, so we have yeah, so there's
craft beer garden and we have you some bourbon tasting.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
We have food trucks. It's really just a family affair.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
It's just a wonderful day out at one of I mean,
my opinion, one of the prettiest parks in Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
It's iconic and it's you know, the we have.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
A beautiful waterfall and at the end of that we
always have a feature car at the bottom of the waterfall.
It's just something to see and a great day to
spend with family.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Unfortunately, I've not been to the Concourse de Lace, but
I thought I've seen like photos of people dressed in
period clothings.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Do people dress? Isn't that fun?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Some people who bring their cars really dress for that time,
So if they have a nineteen twenties car, you might
see them dressed in nineteen twenties attire, and that's always
a fun. It's not a requirement, but some people really
get into it and that's always enjoyable as well.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
And the money that goes into these cars is just amazing.
I'm sure though that for anybody who loves cars and
is thinking about perhaps buying a car and trying to rehabit,
whether it's your favorite Mustang from you know, nineteen sixty
seven to something that's really expensive, these guys, no doubt
could give you a lot of advice on how to
go about the process.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
It is.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
It's one of my favorite things is oftentimes you walk
up to a car and that owner wants to tell
you his story. A lot of times this was my
first car, or I bought one of these and I
had to, you know, hunt it down and find it
and refurbish it. And they all have a history and
it's fun to hear their stories.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
So this is a benefit for the Arthritis Foundation for
folks that don't really understand how do kids get arthritis?
We associate it with being older, but it's actually a
condition that can come on. Can you I know you're
not a doctor, but can you tell me a little
bit about what you're trying to help out with?

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, I probably, I really can't go into exactly you know,
what they have. I don't know, but I will tell
you that we've done some great things and we've got
an amazing program here in the Cincinnati area. Doctors who
will be on site that day, who have who are
volunteering just even supporting us.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
This really amazing doing amazing work.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
And apparently when these camps started way back, I don't
know exactly how many years has been going on, but
the children.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Used to come in wheelchairs.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Well now one of the physicians was telling me, these
children show up and no one's in a wheelchair. So
it we've done great things in getting proper medication and
research to really making great, you know, great headway there,
so very proud to be part of something that's you see,
you see your dollars at work, and I'm very proud
to be supporting something that's local. That's the money stays

(08:01):
local and we see and we see that direct effect
our of our sponsorship.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
If you just joined us. I'm talking with Julie White
and she is the executive director of the Cincinnati forty
seventh Concourse Dela Gals that is happening today. Starts at
ten o'clock this morning, and tickets are available at the gate,
which is good news. A lot of people say, oh,
I wish I would have known in advance, but you
can do that. You can take your kids there and

(08:27):
get in and enjoy it.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Children under twelve are free, which is really, I think
another special thing that we do. And then if you're students,
we have a fifteen dollars ticket, so we really do
everything we can to make sure everyone can bring their
whole family out enjoy.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
And you're having a wine auction. I saw that online
as I was reading about Concourse de la Gals. One
more thing that you guys are doing is I love
motorcycles and I have a Harley by the way, but
you are going to be celebrating Chrysler Indian Motorcycles and
Automotive Oddity is a strange and wonderful world. One hundredth

(09:06):
anniversary of these extraordinary vehicles. So Indian motorcycles in particular
are really a hot item. People want to see them,
people want to buy them. They're difficult to find that
will be there as well. Is that right?

Speaker 3 (09:20):
They will?

Speaker 2 (09:21):
And we've got an amazing team of people who put
together our show. They basically curate this show for us
and they have found some spectacular motorcycles for us to
view that day and to be part of. So we're
super excited to see what they have brought. And then
they'll very stiff competition again. They'll be competing for awards

(09:41):
in their classes. So it's going to be something special.
The Automotive Oddities is just going to be hilarious and fun.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
I can't wait to see.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Just like Propeller cars, it's just a it's just a
wide variety and it's something to take away that you
won't see.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
I can tell you this is not stuff you're going
to see very often.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
So so, Julie, I know these car owners are very
particular about their vehicles. Do they allow them to be
out and when it's raining.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, they sure do.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
They are. They often will bring their own little cover
up their carpet where to drizzle for a little bit.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
They're just out.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
And were there from ten to ten to four, so
they does it rain non stop, so we'll take off
their equipment.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
This is a rainer shiny event.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
So it's such an amazing cause they stick it out
with us and we're so grateful.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
