Camp coming back to Erlinger in October, and it's open

(01:49):
to all veterans and their spouses to build their own businesses,
to foster great ideas that will help make life easier

three day workshop at no cost to veterans. That's right,
Matt Feldhouse, Welcome to iHeart Cincy.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
How are you doing, Matt.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
I'm doing well. I'm doing really well. It's been a
whirlwind of a day, which is always fun. It just
makes the time go by quicker.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
We're talking about the Disabled American Veterans and organization in
Erlanger that does great work for veterans, and this is
a nationwide organization, the national headquarters here in northern Kentucky.
Matt is a new guy in town. You moved here
from where, Matt?

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Not far Honestly, I just moved from Cincinnati, just across
the river to Covington. I'm born and raised from Cincinnati
and honored that DAV actually was founded in Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
A little known fact, right, you know, not too far away.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
So you're an army veteran or is it an or
Army Guard?

Speaker 3 (02:56):
So it is the Army National Guard, So Pennsylvania National
Guard is what I did six years in.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Very good And you got your masters at Syrahcuse and have.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Been plugging away here for a few years. You found
your niche now, right? Is that right?

Speaker 3 (03:11):
With the JAV exactly exactly. I'm no stranger to the
veteran nonprofit space. The bulk of my career has actually
been in veteran nonprofits, so very near and dear to
my heart. I had a lot of soldiers and service
members that I worked with that were struggling to connect
to services and just overall struggling after deployment in their

(03:33):
military service. And it really motivated me to, like that
famous quote, be the change that.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
You want to see in the world.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
And I've spent the majority of my career working for
various nonprofits, whether at Syracuse University, the Headstrong Project, Psychic
Armor Institute. I moved from Los Angeles about two and
a half years ago. I came back home to my
hometown and now I get to work for the best
and brightest.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Let's talk about how to become a member there at
the DAV.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Yeah, that's a great question.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
So all of this information is on our website, and
it's really easy to join. I'm a recent member of
DAV now. So if you go to our homepage DAV
dot org, you can, you know, register on there. There's
a button at the top that says join. There's also
a button on there that says donate. Just as easy

(04:27):
as you can buy something on Amazon, you can register
and get connected to the DAV.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Network, and on that website, of course everything that you're
gonna need to know. Obviously, there's so many other programs
and availabilities. But today we're talking about the Dav Patriot
boot Camp, which appeals to entrepreneurial veterans.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Let's talk about that, Matt.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Oh, now you got me excited. I mean, of course
I love getting more membership. But you know, DAV Patriot
boot Camp, it is an amazing transformative program that is
designed to empower business founders in the veteran in military community.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
But what is really special.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
About it is it also includes the military and veteran spouses,
which is unique. Not a lot of the service programs
focus on the spouses.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Ours does include it.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
And this program provides dynamic entrepreneurship, startup education, mentorship, and
access to really important resources. And most importantly, I think,
is that vital community committed to their success, all of
which is at no cost to the participant.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Everybody has a Oh I've got an idea for a business,
So i want to open a restaurant, I want to
open a gift shop. Veterans that are already in business
and veterans who are looking into doing.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
This can benefit from the Patriot boot Camp.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Exactly though.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
We have found that, I think really the niche of
what makes our program special and where our program is
the best fit are when people have moved beyond that
ideation stage that you kind of reference there and really
are in.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
That launch stage.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
You know, they've done the planning, they've launched their business,
and they're really looking to either formalize their growth. They're
looking to scale or to mitigate some of their you know,
potential risks or pitfalls in just their knowledge. Because a
lot of our mentors are coming as subject matter experts
in various aspects of the business, whether it's sales, marketing,

(06:36):
usage of AI, legal contracting, all these different avenues that
are really important to starting a business, and if you
haven't actually gone through that phase, it might.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Not be meant for you yet.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
You know, it would be best if you've actually already
taken those steps, and then those mentors have a little
bit more of an impact as well.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
So if you are in those infancy steps, you can
contact the DAV and talk to them about, you know,
where to find the resources that you need to get
up to speed so that this a boot camp will
work the best for you, because they're very helpful.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Down there in Erlanger.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I'm talking with Matt Feldhouse, who is a Cincinnati native
and a graduate of syracu Use university and an Army
National Guard veteran out of Pennsylvania. Is that where you
went to your undergrad right?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, my undergrad I attended Allegheny College in Mevio, Pennsylvania.
Funny enough, I was an econ major in a ballroom
dance minor. You know those two go together obviously, and
made the career transition from ballroom dance instructor to interrogator.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
So, you know, very very normal trajectory, Sandy.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
If you don't answer my questions, I will make your chutcha.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Hey, honestly, don't. Don't tap me with the good time, Sandy.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
I see that there's different parts of being an entrepreneur
that you've got a little breakout sessions for, but you've
added AI.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
For this new one. Let's talk about AI.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
It brings in all these different ideas that people have
in their head about what AI might mean for not
only their personal use but also for their business use
and how it can actually help with them providing their services.
So what are they going to find out about with
AI services there at the boot camp?

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah? Well, I'd like to first do the disclaimer of
I am no expert and if you want to be
an expert. We have a Caffeine Connect that is on
our YouTube channel, so if you type in caffeine connect.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Don Parks she was our guest.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
She's actually local to Kentucky as well, and she is
the expert on AI in its use cases. You know,
some people Sandy might use AI to say, help me
plan a trip to Rome and go sight seeing. Sure
AI can do that. But also AI can help you
respond to customers, it can help you prospect new business,

(09:09):
it can help write code and business flows. That really
is just about giving you back more time so that
you can focus on the things that you are an
expert in for your business. I would advise anyone who's
getting into business and entrepreneurship you need to at least
become adequate at using AI because it's here to stay

(09:31):
and businesses are going to be using it and it's
going to put you out a disadvantage if you're not
at least somewhat knowledgeable about how to use it.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
And there's even.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Classes on it. You know, there's plenty of tutorials on
it as well. You know, throughout our entire program, our
speakers come in and give kind of like a ted
Talk style presentation on that business segment, whether it's sales, branding, marketing.
You know, it's not a collegiate level course, but it's
going to be the nuts and bolts and get you

(10:01):
up to speed on doing that.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
It's going to be October fifteenth through the seventeenth, and
that is a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This is a daytime
business event which will cover other things like legal issues
for your company, marketing planning for your business. That's so
important to be able to figure out what's going to
happen in the next ten years, what you want to
have happened, and even team building exercises and so much more.

(10:26):
It's all on the website and that is coming up
on the fifteenth through the seventeenth. But Matt, my favorite
part is that this does not cost anything for veterans.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I know, and that's what's so special about it is that,
you know, dav provides a slew of services at no cost,
really helping out the community.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
And one other way that.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
I think you know dav is decided to help and
just aligns with the mission to give back to the
veteran community is through supporting them financially and you know,
helping them economically as well by doing that starting your
own business, you know, making it so that you can
provide for your family, you can you know, have that

(11:10):
fulfilling life, which really goes back to Dav's mission. And
you know you mentioned Sandy the upcoming cohort. So I
want to do a plug that we still have applications open,
So if you go to Patriot boot Camp dot org,
we have our specific own website different than the Dav
dot org.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
So Patriot boot Camp dot org.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
There's still a little bit of time and I just
want to press a little bit of time. So in
the next week or so, we're probably going to be closing.
So if you're on the fence and you are a
veteran or spouse, business owner, or entrepreneur, you know, come
on there. We'd love to have you and help you
empower you to get to the next step.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Military people are trained to serve and not be served,
and we've been trying over the last twenty twenty five
thirty years to let this veterans know that it's okay
to receive help, it's okay to get mentoring and those
kinds of things. Do you think it's making a difference,
and how do veterans now approach receiving mentorship guidance services

(12:19):
these days.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
I will say that a lot of our mentors are
actually veterans themselves, and I think that speaks to you
that ongoing passion for service and to give back and
to pull up another fellow veteran in need. We at
the end of every cohort, we always ask them for feedback,
and most of the feedback is talking about how important

(12:43):
and transformational their program was. And the single biggest thing
they love is the connection to our mentors.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
If you're interested in the Dav's Patriot boot Camp, Matt
just gave you that address is a Patriot Bootcamp dot
org and you can all also search for the Disabled
American Veterans Association in Erlanger. Is there anything else, Matt,
that you want to talk about? The Davy Patriot boot
Camp that's coming up October fifteenth through the seventeenth, Sandy.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Like Davy Patriot boot Camp attracts, you know, mission driven
founders dedicated to making positive impacts in their industries and communities,
not just as innovators, but as job creators. So two
of the alumni I would love to highlight, one is
Julie Sargent. She is an Army veteran and founder of
Cardinal Medical Solutions. They deploy emergency medical services to first

(13:37):
responders and support personnel during disasters. So I think of
like wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Just all these essential things. And we had her at
our pitch.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Competition and it's just amazing what you know some of
these people do out there. Another one who actually was
our winner of our Patriot Pitch competition at our national
convention is Yusuf Henriquez. He is also an Army veteran
and he founded Indigenous Bio, which is a genetics company

(14:11):
on the mission to improve health equity by increasing representation
of women in racial minorities in clinical trials.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
So what was.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Great about that is these are the levels of our
alumni creating these life changing, world changing businesses. And you know,
at these pitch competitions, which if you envision that TV
show we all know, Shark Tank, thousands of dollars are
up for grabs and we have these people competing for
these pitches, and that same pitch competition is at every

(14:42):
single cohort that we offer.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah, so you can bounce those ideas off of other
people and gain new insights and it just sounds like
a lot of fun, especially if you're looking to expand
your business.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Thank you so much. I appreciate you being on the
call today. Here it's Matt Feldhause.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
He is the new director at the Page Reboot campus
coming up October fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth, and they do
have a few spots left, so don't let it slide
by if you're very much interested.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
And if you can't make it to this one, you'll
have another one.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Exactly, and the next one is going to be in
Myrtle Beach, so you know, pretty pretty nice little spot there.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Wow, I wouldn't mind going along, and you know, seeing
how things are anyway, Matt, thanks so much for your time,
Thanks for your service, and thanks to the dav for
everything that all of you do there for our veterans.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
Thank you, Sandy. I appreciate it. Thanks for having us on.
We appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Coming up on iHeart Cincy and.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
We said, well, let's do a biker ally that connects
two cities, Hamilton and Fairfield. And what's the great asset
we've got. We've got the great Miami River Trail. It
connects the two cities.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
