Speaker 1 (02:22):
O'clock what is the?

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Deal.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
There could you Imagine can you imagine going to the
derby showing up there right, now or you, know going
in the gate and then lasting until seven o'clock for
the running of the.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Roses, Well i'm.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Thinking of the. CROWD i, MEAN i think mint jillops
will be flowing freely and by that, TIME i, mean
we might see a lot more than horses. Running. Right,
well that's What i'm.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Saying how do you last till seven?

Speaker 3 (02:50):
O'clock it'll just it'll just be the pan to the
crowd and there'll just be a bunch of you, know
folks just laying around to, sleep, Right AND i kep
just couldn't make. It, NO i doubt that will. Happen
this is a big. Deal you doubt that will. Happen
my son and daughter in law live In, louisville And
i'll tell you it. IS i, mean we talk about

(03:14):
When Ohio state plays a home, game particularly, homecoming it
is a big. DEAL i, mean let's face, it you,
know it is a big. Deal you know when the
when The reds play a big baseball, game you, know
towards the end of the. Season it hasn't happened for a,
while but it might happen this. Year you, know it's
a big deal, locally, right same with The bengals and The.

(03:36):
BROWNS i, mean you, know we have these, events BUT
i dare say there's nothing like The derby And. Louisville
it's the whole. City it's just taken, over and it's
gone on for so. Long it's such a it's such
a historical standard and a continuation of something that even

(03:57):
if you pay no attention to horse racing any other
time of the, year, right this is the time of
the year when people tune, in wear their big, hats
even if they're sitting against you, know at home on
their their. Sofa, right.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Have to come in from.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Gardening AND i know you're going to ask my, picks
but you know THAT I i, ALWAYS i, MEAN i
doom any. HORSE i Mean i've kind of thought about
HOW i. HAVE i, mean you, know my picks are
the ones that in the race grazing in the. Infield you,
know they're just somewhere along the.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
LINE i think that was in the infield once for The,
derby BUT i don't.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Remember, YEAH.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I THINK i THINK i went one time AND i don't.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Remember you think so kind of a you know that's
that's that's on the bucket. List that is on the bucket.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
List yess WHAT i.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
DID i actually went through the list BECAUSE i get
my picks together a couple of days. Ago BUT i
went through the list AND i had to change mine
because my, my my chose to win got scratched. Yesterday but,
NEVERTHELESS i looked at the. NAMES i, said, okay if.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Okay if you're gonna, render you're gonna render, judgment aren't.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
You?

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yeah what would based on these? Names? Now tell me
If i'm If i'm on the right.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
TRACK i said he would Pick sandman because the song From.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Metallica, yeah and check, OKAY.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
I, said you would Pick Cole battle because Of West.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Virginia gotta do, IT i, GOT i gotta do. It.
Yeah and THEN.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
I, said this word is really, unusual And joe will
probably start using it in his conversation and things that
he types out and.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Writes, Tantastic, Cassic, yes. Tantastic it would have been Flying
mohawk for my youthful. Days BUT i, thought, well, no, yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
FANTASTIC i picked Flying mohawk is my long shot because
that would have been your wrestler's name if you were
to W.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
W that's, Right, yes the haircut and.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Everything, yeah the flying mohawk that would have been. HERE
i also PICKED i Picked Citizen.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Bull for the.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Show nobody's talking About Citizen. BLE i Had grande as the. Winner,
actually but Now i've gone to Uh basa because Now
bassas in the race was he alteredate and THEN i Think.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Beasas actually could be.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
One but you, know with the muddy track and twenty
horses or whatever's going to run, today nineteen, horses you
might as well just flip a.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
COIN i, THINK i tell you it is uh, yeah the.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
People the games early forget.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
It, YEAH i MEAN i know WHERE i ADMIT i
know very little about horse. Racing This i'm just gonna
put that out. There, yeah you, know NOW i know
a little bit about. Horses WHEN i was in, COLLEGE
i used to exercise horses for for you, know a local,
stable and that was a people. Pything AND i was

(07:04):
riding in trails in the, woods you. Know SO i
know a little bit about, mud AND i know a
little bit about what, happens you, know when you get
a horse in pretty pretty muddy. Conditions of, course on
the other, hand we do tend to forget we say muddy,
conditions but that that track is is not just clay.

(07:25):
Mud they would be just kind of standing the. Case, yeah,
yeah it's it's a little bit more like a sand,
trap isn't.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
It, yeah but it's going to be.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Interesting and and again such a such a a, big
big sporting, EVENT i mean almost like Super bowl status
all would you? SAY i mean, yeah most? Definitely uh SO.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
I those you, Know i'm LIKE i, said Citizen, ball
flying mohawk with my life and a.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Bass that was my. Pick but what what what was your? Pick?

Speaker 3 (08:05):
No you nailed? Them, SERIOUSLY i MEAN I I i Was.
SANDMAN i just can't help. It of, course you, know
IF i understood the odds at, ALL i think it
works this. Way the higher the first, number the better the.
Horse is that right? On oh, yeah yeah that's exactly.
Right Yeah i've heard. That BUT i am looking right

(08:28):
now off the, list and Well, sandman you, know is
six to. One that's pretty. GOOD i mean it's it's not.
BAD i, mean uh but, Yeah Cole battle was in,
there but the FANTASTIC i have to, say just that
name was was something that was. Something but you, know
but you HAVE i mean journalism and publisher in the

(08:49):
Same that is that's kind of unheard, of isn't it
to two things associated with? Writing? Uh that's WHEN I
i saw. THAT i, thought, oh that's made. Up, THERE
i got the wrong. List somebody just made this. Up
which we should do next. Year we should post our own.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
List just put our own names. Together.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Yeah, Yeah Eastern tent you know goes after fall. Web.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah well my favorite that rose is? Easy does? It?

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (09:19):
THERE i think that would Be that would be a
great horse for you to bet.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
On, yeah, yeah that's. Right, no slow mo is? There you?

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Go slow?

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Mo all, right let's let's take a quick. Break we come.
Back we'll find out Bugget Jo box actually had anything,
POSITIVE i mean real that he wanted to talk about
today here on news radio six to TEN wtv.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Some.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
REASON i can see you with your hat on strum
and the.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Guitar, yes let me tell you it's. It that's the
perfect visual effect right, there.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Exercising your wild horses were the wild? Horse is that
you were exercising?

Speaker 3 (10:02):
That that's a great theme song for, today isn't. It
we should JUST i think we should just fade out
with that.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Song what do you think the derby would be like
if they know jockeys just turn them loose like dog racing.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
That, well they let us see what they.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Don't, STOP i, know carry it out in front or.
SOMETHING i don't.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
KNOW i think we should be put in charge of that. Carrot,
well WELL i will tell you when is? It when
is it going to stop? OPERATING i heard the weather
report from, you and it sounds like next week we
might start seeing.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
The actually, yeah maybe tuesdays starting to see some breaks in,
there and maybe for The Mother's day. Weekend you, know
it looks like the few days before and the weekend
not looking too bad as of right.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Now so, wow.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Well it's it is. INCREDIBLE i, mean after last year's historic,
drought which it is, amazing how how often we we
just simply you, know don't factor that in terms of
what we're seeing this, year, RIGHT i, mean from turf
grass to arborvide that's you, know looking really really bad

(11:13):
because of the. Drought and of course you know now
we're seeing quite a bit of. Recovery except and you
AND i have talked about this. Already you, know the,
weed the weed establishment and home lines was pretty. INCREDIBLE
i don't, know about The columbus. Area but the media
in our area has been talking a lot about about
dandelions popping, up seemingly more so than. Usual but you,

(11:38):
Know i'm amazed how often that drought is just forgotten
in terms of why might we have more? Weeds, WELL
i mean we have a lot more, yeah a lot
more openings the winter annuals we. Saw you, know when
you have openings in, turf grass and flower beds that

(11:59):
are doing, poorly, that's you, know we the opportunistic weeds.
Appear and of course they've been supported even more so
by the wet. Spring it's just been almost perfect conditions
for you, know the establishment and appearance of. WEEDS i
don't know where that's, HEADING i, guess.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Yeah but no.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Competition you, know you got the bear spots and and
and the weather's BEEN i, mean winter annuals just went
nuts because they had open, areas nothing to compete with
as far as the turf goes and the, DANDELIONS i,
mean the same. Way and you, look AND i was
remind folks too about the. Dandelions look at where they're growing,
exactly and you, know it's along the, sidewalk it's along

(12:43):
the whatever it's on the. Hillside it's where you, know
the lawn has stenned. Out that's where obviously where the
weeds all pop, up especially the. Dandelions so, there you,
know it's an indicator showing you where things have thinned.
Out so it's. Crazy it's you, Know Ron roth has sums.
THAT i always like his saying these are ghosts from
the drought.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
PASSED i like.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
IT i have never Heard ron say, that but that's
that is a perfect way of putting. It and you, know,
frankly if we go back the year before, LAST i,
mean you, know we had sort of mini droughts made
it very, difficult and of course that was a little
bit hard to get our minds around in twenty twenty

(13:24):
three because it wasn't consistent Across. OHIO i mean even
last year's route was more central and southern than it was.
Northern but but the point being is that we've had
some summer and tall conditions that have really particularly turf,
grass really presented some. Challenges and yet it's so easy

(13:47):
to forget last year the water shut. Off it's concerning
me this year because you, know last year's spring was
also pretty. Wet it wasn't quite like this, year's but
it was pretty wet and then and then the water
just shut, off and SO i have to, admit you,
Know i'm a little, bit you, know a little bit

(14:08):
concerned because we've had such a wonderful spring in terms
of of things being able to do, well maybe a
little more water than we need in some cases where
we have poor drainage because we. Did going back to,
arborvide you, know you've said, It i've said it, before
and that is they do not take you, know extremes and,

(14:31):
moisture too, dry too, wet arborividy can really can really.
Suffer of, Course i'm paint with a broad brush. Here
is like all arborvide is the, same and we know
that there's some differences between the species and cultivars and
hybrids and so. Forth but at the end of the,
day you, know we do have to look for the

(14:51):
ghosts of drought, paths droughts. PASS i like, That i'm
writing that, down and we should name a horse that next.
Year how'd you like? That? YEAH i, like, Yeah oh my,
Gosh i'll tell, you just a very strange looking bunch of, horses,

(15:13):
Right so that's just something that that we do need
to take into account that that you, know what we're
experiencing now is based on what was in the. Past
some good news, though and that is it's interesting right.
Now AND i THINK i mentioned it last week THAT
i and others were in the middle of updating the
sul testing fact sheet That Ohio state has to help,

(15:36):
people help to guide people and want to. Do And
i'm actually right now in this section talking about soluble mineral.
Salts soluble, salts and of course we tend to think
of sodium chloride because that is, salt but of course you,
know potassium is another can also be a soluble, salt

(15:58):
depending on what it's hooked up. With and we see
the damage though mostly from the icing salt along the
edge of, sidewalks and what's the recommendation for getting that
salt to move through the soil rain. Water you're exactly,
Right and you, know normally we do experience something like

(16:21):
that in the, spring which can mitigate that, problem you,
know where we have dying grass or dead grass or you, know,
however if we just kind of let it, stay you
know what's going to come into those. Areas and even
though we often talk about you, know not. SEATING i
KNOW i mentioned this last. Week you, know we we

(16:41):
tend to focus you, know seating turf, grass you know
in late summer and fall as being the best. Time
and in the past we'd almost talk, about, well you
know you just have to. Wait spring is so it
can be so. Bad and the reason is because the
seedlings take a while to stand publish and they may really,

(17:02):
struggle you, know In july And, august because we have
cool season grasses that do best in spring and. Fall,
however if you have open, areas it's still not too.
Late it may not make it totally through the. Summer
that's a. Risk but doing, NOTHING i mean doing, nothing
you know you're going to achieve nothing and may very

(17:23):
well leave openings for the perennial weeds that really can
be a, challenge you, know like. Dandelions so you, KNOW
i would urge that people don't give up on doing
some spot. Seating still keep doing. It. Again there may
be a little bit of a, struggle but we know
what happens if you have these open areas and the

(17:44):
weather is working in our. FAVOR i would dare say
that with the amount of rain we've had there's probably
not much in terms of soluble, salts you, know in
soils that are near. Sidewalks i'm just thinking THAT i
have no data that's to prove, it but we've had
so much rain that we're probably not dealing with, it
and so turf craft ceilings could probably do. OKAY i

(18:08):
can't BELIEVE i haven't mentioned, insects HAVE.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
I you didn't talk about one bug. WHATSOEVER i. Know
i'm totally. Amazed but that's okay because we never know
Where Buggy Joe boggs is going to take The Buggy
Joe boggs.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Report it could end up in the infield grazing with
the horse pick THAT i THAT i That i've. Doomed you.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
KNOW i think the year THAT i thought THAT i was,
there But i'm not really. SURE i can't. Remember uh
that was your somebody tried to go up to your
flagpole without any clothes. On from WHAT i remember, Now
i'm thinking you were down in That oh never, Mind.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Oh, well you know it. Is what did you?

Speaker 1 (18:47):
Say? Yeah that's?

Speaker 2 (18:51):
It, Hey, joe always a, pleasure great. Information we will
catch you Next.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Saturday you have a great, week AND i can't wait
to watch the.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
RACE i can't. Either hope you hope you last that
long un till seven.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
O'CLOCK i might be able to make. IT i don't know.
More coffee, Buddy Joe.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Boggs all, right take, care Buggy Joe.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
BOGGS i wish you extension again their website or yeah
bygl DOT osu dot e du quick, break we come.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Back guess what phone lines are open for?

Speaker 2 (19:23):
You eight two to ONE WTV in eight hundred and
six to ten W tv and talking to your ardening
here on news radio six y TEN, wtvn talking to
your arning on this Rady, saturday First saturday In. May
got a long way to, go don't be in a,
panic But i've got some suggestions for. You but before
we do, that let's go back to the gardening phone

(19:44):
lines and talk To. Bob, Bob good, Morning.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Good, Morning. Ron yes, sir, yesterday yesterday, morning you mentioned
a tomato that you were gonna try this, year AND
i just didn't catch the name of. IT i thought
it was. INTERESTING i thought Maybe i'd like to plant
one or two of.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Them All, so all, right you ready for? THIS i.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Am it's called big. Dwarf, okay so you know the
name just kills. Me but here's what's interesting About Big.
Dwarf and we actually were looking at it last, year
and Then brandon from Circum plants talking about it also
that hegrew it last year and just had great. Results

(20:31):
but it's a determinant, tomatoes so it means. It it
only gets about three feet high three feet, wide but
it produces full sized beef steak. Tomatoes and the thing
about this is not truly a determinant because it seems
to flower right on through the summer, season so not
really big as far as the, plant good producer beef steak,

(20:54):
tomato so perfect for, containers smaller gardens or regular. Gardens
it doesn't. Matter it's Called Big. Dwarf AND i know
he was growing it Circum. PLANTS i don't know who
else is growing. It he has the seas, also but
that that was. It can't wait to give it a.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
Shot do you think they're available at the garden centers
THAT i don't.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Know, AGAIN i you, KNOW i haven't seen anybody's. LISTS
a lot of garden senters if you go on our,
website LIKE i just On Baker's acres the other day
trying to cruise through some of the things that they.
Had they'll list the tomatoes that they're trying to grow
or had. It you, know that's on their the original
list as far as what to grow for the for
the spring. Season so some will list, them some. Don't

(21:40):
you may you're probably gonna have to call around it to.
See BUT i know, that LIKE i, said circle, PLANTS
i know he has the seed and TYPICALLY i don't
know if they're still growing plants or. Not he said
they were kind of backing off on.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
That but that's. It we'll get the word, out you.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Know if it works and it does a really good
job and we're all sold on, it hopefully more and
more garden senters will start to have.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
It but it's Called Big.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Dwarf, okay.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
My last question for, YOU i have ah an autumn
brilliant service berry.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Tree m.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
It's sending a lot of shoots, up you, know from the.
Ground other than keep clipping those, off is there SOMETHING
i can do SOMETHING i can put on there to,
uh to keep those shoots.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Down.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Yep and a lot of times you get into, that
especially with trees that are, grafted and what will happen
is right at that, graft they'll, try the roots will
start to send up other you, know suckers from that
root system just trying to. Regrow it's only, natural and
you're right pronting those with a. Handpruner all the. Times
it gets to be a pain in the. Rear egg
crab apples are horrible for. That but there's a, product

(22:53):
and a couple companies make their. Own but there's one
out there called Sucker, punch and it basically to go
after suckers at the base of. Trees it doesn't hurt the,
tree but what it is is a growth, inhibitor so
that you spray it around the base where those suckers come,
up or if you see them start to come, up
just hit it one time with the sucker punch and

(23:14):
it stops it from growing at that. Point and it
lasts pretty much the entire. Season so you, know one,
application maybe, two but one will pretty well carry you
through the whole summer. Season but it's called Sucker, punch
and that one is made By. BONNEYED i Know Monterey
chemical has. ONE i can't think of the name of,

(23:35):
it but, anyway they're out, There LIKE i, say two
or three chemical companies do handle. Them but it's called
Sucker punch is the one that you'll see in most
of the garden centers By Bonneyde.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
Okay, well thank you very, much AND i sure appreciate.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Your, program all, Right, bob appreciate, that AND i hope
you find the big dwarf and we can all compare our.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
Notes at the end of the.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Season, okay all, right take, care all, right quick, break
we come, back and then not quick, breaks BUT i
just always say THAT i don't know why another, break
and then when we come back at lots of tips
to share for you things you could be doing today
and tomorrow during all this rainy. Sessions And i'll just
give you a kind of a hint about What i'm
going to talk about next, week this, weekend next, week

(24:19):
next Weekend's Mother's day, weekend and the following week typically
the busiest two weeks and two weekends of the spring.
Season so what's that up to do with today and?
Tomorrow i'll tell you after the break here on news.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Radio six TEN.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
WTVN i don't know who'll stop the, RAIN i tell
you talking yarding here on news radio six to ten
WTV tv in what is that well that smells? Great
smells almost like a pepperoni hot pocket makes me, hungry
talking to your pockets talking yardning on news radio six

(24:51):
to TEN, Wtv And, okay here's the. Deal Next saturday
And sunday Is Mother's day, weekend Right, Sunday Mother's Day,
sunday And mom love things gifts for the garden from the.
Garden and if you're planning on doing something For mom
for the garden from the. Garden AND i just mentioned
before the break that this weekend next Week Mother's day,

(25:12):
weekend obviously in the following week the three two busiest
weeks and weekends of the entire spring season at your
locally independent owned garden. Centers so today we've got, rain
and tomorrow we've got. Rain, right they're stocked to the,
gills they're ready to, go they're ready For Mother's day,
