From the city that changes the world for years.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Three things you need to know roses on today from
the hood at newsdesk. That doesn't sound right hood Yeah again,
it's not that to happen news, But you're not gonna
like this, but a government shutdowns looking imin at at
twelve oh one am tonight, which is hours away from
another federal government shutdown starting. Like I said, twelve oh
one tonight. The main issues over short term funding. Both

(00:26):
sides haven't really agreed on it, and it looks like
votes aren't gonna go either way kind of.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Quickly before the shutdown begins.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Essentially, what happens in case you're new and you got
a job in the government right now and they're figuring
things out, is when a government shutdown happens, agency c
sectivity and furlough non accepted employees. Accepted employees, well, they
get to work still, but they don't get paid until
the shutdown is ending. So you may want to check
today if you're worried with your management, maybe take home

(00:54):
any work laptops or anything you may need down the
road because these things could last a while. And if
you need that one thing from work that you can't
get into well you're kind of as so well. Yeah,
on the brighter side of things, Door Dash and Kroger
they're expanding their grocery deliver be partnerships starting tomorrow Bayo.
Maybe so this is kind of cool. I didn't really
know this that Kroger actually owns Harris Teeter. Yeah, so

(01:18):
any Harris Teeter locations technically Kroger thing. So if you
got the little key card to get the discounts, that
works at both of them.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
That's why they both bars.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Oh really wow, Yeah, mine has a Barker bar.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Well cool, But the coving is why I'm mentioning this.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
If you have Dash Bash or door Dashed credit throw
any of your credit cards, you can use it at
Kroger instead of wasting it at like seven to eleven
on a slurpee.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
You can actually get groceries through it.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Normally, door Dash in the past has just done sushi
and flowers with Kroger or Harris Teeter in the area.
But now you can buy anything from a Harris Teeter
near you, groceries, food if you want Pokemon cards too.
And then McDonald's is bringing back the Monopoly game after
ten years.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
In the US.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
It's funny because we could we see the Monopoly game.
I think they do it in the UK still all
the time and we always think, oh, it's coming back here,
but no. Starting October sixth, you can actually play the
iconic Monopoly game again. Cool thing in it has a
modern update finally because if you have the McDonald's app,
you can actually use that to track all your pieces
instead of a random like little folder you had back

(02:23):
in the day to track everything. You can win vacations,
I win in Bago. There's still Yeah, they're still a
thing in twenty twenty five. A low shopping spree and more.
Plus a lot of the game pieces you can kind
of double dip and get kind of played twice off
of a piece you get for any food orders, which.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Is pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
I'm hoodie, and those are three things you need to
know for today, heny hoody you.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
I just remembered, so Ben Flack was gonna do the
McDonald's like Monopoly movie.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
I just I just googled to see what the update is.
I guess Disney Shelter.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
It is while ago, right, yeah, because.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
It was like back in like the eighties. There's like
a security guards they would like they would know where
the winning pieces were. They hire company to bring the
winning us to the stores. This guy figure it out
and then basically would tell his friends like listen, you'll
win ten thousand dollars, just give me a grand or
something like that.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
He got caught, like, what's the documentary called M millions?

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
The god actually like the FI agents hilarious though the
documentary is right, you know. The one guy's like old cranky,
the other guy's like young and like funn He's like.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I think we watched it during the pandemic. Only was
yin and yang of like this is the best favorite.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
This was the.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Worst way my wife And he's like, ah, he said
that that Guard doc.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
It's pretty fun.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
It's us a good Let me get in Fredericksburg branding.

There's more sites putting out the Halloween trends for this year.
So we know we did this like a week ago too,
but there's some new ones. They're saying, Stitch, the only
STIs canna be big because of the live action movies. Okay,
which I think that that little girl was adorable. Adorable,

(04:30):
she's adorable. Minecraft's gonna be big.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Minecraft's been big.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
They say it's bad movie though, too, so that's gonna
be like another big one. Yeah, Super Mario Brothers, sure,
I think, but again like those kind of had a
reassurance with movies.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
Yeah they did, but I feel like Marios every years.

or something.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah, they're also saying leather Face like Texas chained some massacre,
which I'm gonna be honest, I'm gonna go ahead and
say probably not. So. I feel like the Monsters uh
documentary on Netflix about Edge and the guy that's based
on comes out Friday. Yeah, it's kind of like when
they did the Dammer one and people like, please don't
dress as Jeffrey Dahmer. I think the way the Monsters
documentary works and makes it not like sensationalized, It's like

(05:35):
it shows you like, oh, this is a bad person. Yes,
I'm gonna say that. That might be like the death
of Leatherface as like a viable Halloween costume.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Wo people act like this year and the other one,
mister and missus potato Head like that. I think, if
you know what you're doing, are you the suggestion for

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
