Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the city that changes the world, peers Rose with
three things you need to know for Rose got for us.
So the Office of Management and Budget director told I
had the House yesterday that the Trump administration will start
firing federal employees in the next one or two days
because of the government shutdown. We do not know specifics

(00:21):
about any of this though, like there's no specific firing plan,
we don't know who it's going to affect, how many people.
But Vice President jad Vance confirmed shortly after in the
White House Reeping Room that layoffs would happen soon unless
the government reopened.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
So hopefully everyone can come.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
To an agreement and reopen the government and then we
don't have to do the layoff thing, because that would
be terrible. There are a lot of places giving discounts
to federal workers amid the shutdown, including BGE. BG is
stepping up to support the federal workers. They are offering
flexible payment plans, weaving late fees, and simplifying access to assistance.
So they're saying effective customers won't need to show a

(00:58):
government ID to get help, but they're saying so they.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Can get like a personalized, personalized help.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
So DC residents soon can have but one less ride
sharing app to choose from. We talked about this a
while ago and Empower the ride share. I've never used it,
but the drivers subscribed to its online platform and they
set their own price and they keep all of the
money that they earn. But the CEO of Empower agreed

(01:24):
in court too and its operation in the district within
two weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
So the Joshua Seer.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
He was actually threatened with jail time for contempt of
court after being ordered by the same judge several months
ago to halt the service, but he maintains that his
business model is similar to like travel booking apps like Expedia,
so Empower should not have to follow the same same
regulations as Uber or Lyft. But that will be shutting
down on the next two weeks. And if you are

(01:50):
worried about running out of candy on Halloween night, Eminem's
has got your back yet again. They are coming back
with its Halloween Rescue Squad third year, so they are
just gonna swoop it and refol candy bowls for free,
which is really cool. So starting at five pm on
October thirty first, anyone in a Go Puff delivery zone
can call for a candy rescue, and get candy delivered

(02:12):
within an hour, So make sure you have that information
saved in the back of your head just in case
you do run out of candy on Halloway night.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
I'm Rose.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Those are the three things you.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Need to know for the day. Thank you, Rose, You're welcome.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
I don't think this is a surprising new reports. If
you have like a smart speaker or use AI in
your house, those systems obviously listen to you. They're gonna
start to now advertise things that you talk about like that.
I thought that was the natural progression, though you always
said that was gonna happen. Yeah, So Metas announced they're
gonna collect dot if user interactions with AI chatbots to

(02:44):
sell targeted ads. Okay, so if you ask AI like
how to fix your dishwasher or why something's leaking, they
might push you ads for new dishwashers.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Okay, again, that's I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
It's one of those things where do I mind that
as much on a as A targeted to you, so
at least it's more relevant. Maybe that's the benefit of it.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
I feel like if you're typing it in and actually
asking it, that's one thing. But if it's just listening
to a conversation. If I have my friends over and
we're getting ready and I'm like, oh, my curling irons
acting weird, and then I started getting curling iron things,
I'm going to freak out.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Well, I mean we already. I know they've never confirmed it.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Prior to it, well, they've always said that they're not
doing that, and there's just absolutely no way.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
But if I talk about beach balls by my phone
for the next five minutes, I would bet you there'll
be beach balls on Instagram and on Amazon.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
It happens all the time.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
My friend was talking about something so niche when we
were up brunch like a month ago, and then I
just kept getting ads for what specifically she was talking about.
They had nothing to do with me, and I've never
talked about that thing out loud that I was like,
what is happening?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
And they're saying there's not a lot you can do
about it. They notifying users in the coming days will
update the privacy policies.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Which nobody reads anyway. Yeah, so there we go.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
They also say Google's updating their Virtual Gemini Assistant for
your home. You'll be able to have full conversations rather
than speak specific commands.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
That's what I wanted.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
In example, they say you could tell them that the
dishwasher isn't training and ask how you could troubleshoot, and
then in theory, it could walk you through a step
by step.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
I've never I'm not going to do that. I need
to like read it and see it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
There's also scary too, because there's something earlier this week
that like a third of the chat GPT answers for
things are wrong because it's like you just trust in
that system, so it's not really verifiable.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
But even I guessterday, I was trying to find something
that I knew for a fact was a real thing,
and it kept telling me it did not exist, Like
what are we looking for? It was something to do
with uh, I can't I can't remember exactly.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Like how stuff.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
No, I even did it today, and it said.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
That wasn't real like a product or like a movie.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Dude. Oh, it was someone that was in a book together,
and I was like looking for something. So I was
just I didn't want to finish the books. I want
to see what they got together. And it said that
they were not take that that that did not exist
when very well, no, no, it said that it's a
really it's a well known book.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Harry Potter done.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Now, no intern John in your morning show.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
That's true. And iHeartRadio

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
