Speaker 2 (00:05):
To know for your Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Rose you got for us.

Speaker 4 (00:08):
Montgomery County officials are urging residents to prepare for a
major increase in spotted lantern fly over the next few years.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Wow, they have been so bad at the building that's
next to mine, but not mine, because it's Everybody keeps
saying it's because it's shinier.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I don't know if that's true.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I mean, but they're like, they're like everywhere at that
building and there's none online.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
It's it's gross and it is gross.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
So the invasive insect is expected to surge in population
across some areas in the next three to five years.
They're saying some parts of the county may see population
levels similar to the Cicada brewed ex emergence in twenty
twenty one, if you remember that. So they're encouraging residents
to prevent a further spread of the population. Basically, they're saying,

(00:52):
if you see them, squash them, and if you see
their egg masses, scrape the egg masses onto or into
a sealed bag and then smash them and.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Then dispose of That's a lot, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
But imagine how many spot l interflies are in those
egg miles, you know, and.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
You don't want to smash it because there.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
It's like have you ever smashed the eggs like a
spider eggsact before.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
And then they just go everywhere?

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, So just put it in a bag, seal it,
and then smash it.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
So three Prince George County Metro stations are closed today,
the Branch Avenue, Suitland and Naylord Road stations. Having closed,
a Metro can make track improvement and work on signaling systems.
Parking at the three stations will be free through the
end of the month. Metro also plans to close the
Southern Avenue and Congress Congress Height stations this weekend and

(01:46):
next weekend. There will be shattle buses available during this closer.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
So just wanted to let you know.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
And the National Zoos celebrated the birthday of a Chinese panda,
Boo Lee yesterday with a frozen fruit birthday cake to
mark the special occasion. Super cute if you missed it.
Pictures are adorable. There were birthday sides. One said roor
I'm four and it had a picture of a Ballei
dressed in a tiger costume was cu so adorable. So

(02:14):
Bali arrived in the US with fellow panda Ching Boo
last October.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
No Ching Bowl's birthday is.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Next month, and they will celebrate her fourth birthday, so
if you miss this one, you can celebrate the next one, which.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Is really cute.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
I Rose, those are the three things you need to
know today.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Thank you, Rose, You're welcome. I need to bring this up.
My brother sent this to me yesterday, so thanks to Tommy.
I'm a big zoo guy city I go to zoo.
This is crazy, okay. A Danish zoo has asked people
to donate their pets to feed the lions.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
I'm sorry, so what.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
A zoo in Denmark is in the news after asking
people to donate their pets they can feed the lions
and other apex predators. They made the appeal on Facebook
last Thursday, saying did you know you can donate smaller
pets to us? And they're not talking about sick pets.
They only accept healthy ones.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
That's not real.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Eat Apparently it is so that people lose their minds.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Obviously.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, cast and dogs not accepted, so that's there is
that's not good.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
They want like gerbils and hamsters.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
So according to Zo's website, they only accept uh pet rabbits, chickens,
guinea pigs, and small horses.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Oh my god, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
So they say they will quote gently euthanize them before
they feed them to the animals. They said that some
zoo animals, including big cats, should really be eating animals whole,
like fur and all, so it better stimulates them what
they eat in the wild. They say it's a wind
win because nothing goes to waste. Like yeah, So they say,
according to the website, you can donate up to four animals

(03:51):
at once.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
So who in their right mind is going to be like,
you know what, I have a pet? I mean I
wonder like pet away.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yeah, unless it's like if you happen to be a
farmer and you have a bunch of chickens and maybe.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Gonna I'm sorry, I think this is so disturbing. I
like that we're talking about it. It's making me want
to throw up. To be completely honest, it is.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
It's Uh, it's odd.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
But they're literally asking for people's pets. Yeah, they're asking
the public, and I understand that they need to feed them.
They're gonna it's the natural way of life. Sure, sure,
but I don't know. I think like a public service
announcement to feed the lions that are already in cages
that didn't ask to be there.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
No, it's no for me.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Could we get them an uber eats account and they
can disorder food?

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Do they have uber eats over there?

Speaker 4 (04:36):
I would assume, So why not partner with a farm
instead of asking the public for their pets, like the
other ways to get food for the lions.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
But sure, I almost wonder if I do think sometimes
companies will put things out they know will cause a
disturbance just to get the pr However, that is a
very like thin line of like, ye, you risk it
blowing up. So I don't know. This was like the
intern was run the Facebook page and that'd be funny,
and it took off. They're gonna see what happens.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
But it is like, all right, we're on the way, dude.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
I saw a peta post this past weekend about the
lantern flies saying like you should not to kill him.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
I'm like, oh no, that's well ruining thing.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Then the top comments that as well, so are humans
Like okay, well, I mean we could be here all
day talking about actually in the TRANSALSUS. We're gonna be
at least ten o'clock.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
That is intern John in your morning show True I
