Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the City that changes the world, Piers Rose with
three things you need to know for your Thursday.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Rose Ras Baltimore Safe Haven will open a new housing
facility and community hub on Friday that supports the LGBTQ
plus community. So the new center is located in a
former micro dorm on Collington Avenue and it's going to
offer twelve residential units and it offers temporary and permanent
housing with wrap round service available for those who need it.

(00:28):
But the community hub is going to offer workplace development,
medical and mental health care. And that grand opening is
happening at one pm on Friday. So, as we've been
talking about this week, the military parade to mark the
two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the US Army is
set for Saturday. And while the parade root itself is
in DC, road closures are not limited to the district.

(00:48):
So the Pentagon's North parking lot is serving as a
staging area with military veagles set to leave there and
head into the city via the Memorial Bridge. So road
closures actually have our all started happening in various areas.
They started last night in Arlington and the district yesterday,
and DC police actually released a traffic advisory which details

(01:09):
those closures, and they said they could tweak as necessary,
so just make sure you are keeping updated on that
because it's constantly changing. But anyone who parks and restricted
zones could be ticketed or towed. And the closures are
expected to be lifted by Monday morning. But that parade
route is going to be on Constitution Avenue Northwest between

(01:29):
fifteenth Street and twenty third Street. And they're also encouraging
everyone who's going to the parade to take the Metro.
There are some changes with the Metro as well, which
we've talked about with the busty tours and like the train,
like how often the train will be running. And the
Baltimore Ravens are expanding girls high school flag football around
the state with their grant program. It's really cool. So

(01:50):
Charles County and Calvert County are the latest recipients of
grants from the Ravens to add the sport. They actually
launched a grant program in twenty twenty three. Frederick He
became Maryland's first county to receive it, and then Baltimore
City Public Schools, Montgomery County Public Schools, and Washington County
public schools joined the list a year later. So these
latest grants are the first for southern Maryland and the

(02:13):
last two rounds of grants are going to cover the
cost of offering a sport for one year, but then
the individual districts will have to pay to keep them
operating after that. I'm Rose. Those are the three things
you need to.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
