Speaker 1 (00:00):
I am welcome for the first time to intern Johnny
Morning Show. You're goaltender of the Washington Capitals Logan Thompson logan,
good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Sir, warning warning.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
How's it going going well?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Man?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Last time I saw you was at Hide Social for
our co host Shelby's Pink Pony Club birthday. People know
this dj LT up and coming in the EDM community.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
So yeah, maybe maybe when when Afy's over.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Absolutely, this is year two for you in DC.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Man.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
I think I'm from Minnesota originally, I do want to
get your take on this. To me, it seems like
to the outsiders, the Caps fan base is so slept on,
and I didn't realize it until I moved here that
the Caps faithful are maybe the most loyal fan base
in the league. Did you have that same kind of
experience when you first started here a year ago?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Absolutely, I didn't know what to expect, obviously coming from
Vegas and coming to DC and then being here for
a year now and this kind of just kind of
where I live walking around people people recognize you, people
say hi. You know, people will you come up and
just you know, hope you have a great seat or
hope you have a good season.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
You had a great season last year. Really friendly, and
they're die hard, they're passionate, and that's just credit to
Obe and you know what he's done in this to
be for a long time, and credit to the fats
here that you love the sport and love the team.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Speaking of Ob, it's got to be a positive and
negative to practice against the greatest goal scorer of all time,
because number one, you're going against the best. But I
gotta imagine, even underneath thirty pounds of pads, the ob
Slav shot cannot feel great as goalie.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
No, it's it's obviously a privilege to play with him
and then call him a teammate. But yeah, practically practicing
against them sometimes is always upon est.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
I do think too hockey players internally, swag is a
big thing when it comes to hockey. When you see
yourself on the big screen during the game, do you
try to like, hell, yeah, did I look dope? Or
if they replay a big save, do you get hyped
to watching it on the big screen.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, obviously it's a big saver or something broad. When
they assume it on you after a goal, you're just
like camera out of any such of things. So it's
kind of it's fifty to fifty. It's you're really good
or really bad.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Well, let me ask you this. Obviously one of the
best seasons I think you have Last year was fantastic.
As far as frustrations, obviously, be a goalie, goals happen.
What's more annoying giving up a goal or losing your
keys in the morning?
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Give give it up a goal? Give it up a
goal that's handed down. The is more frustrating, especially when
you're you know, a visitor rink and the horns blaring
off and all the fans are laughing at you. It's
just definitely frustrating.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
How about giving up a goal or forgetting your password
to like Netflix, something like that, having to create a
new password and it tells you you can't use the
old password.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
I gotta say so, giving up a goal and the
not going to wear nowhere feeling okay?
Speaker 1 (02:54):
How about forgetting the wallet, still getting up a goal,
I'm asumming, Still giving up a goal.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
I gotta, I got, I can pay off my phone.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Then there we go. And so as far as pregame richuals,
we've had Tom Wilson on the show before We've had
tj Oshi on the show before. Goalies are different breed.
Uh for you, let's say seven o'clock puck drop, what's
your day look.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Like o'clock puck drop. You know, I'm usually at the
rink in the morning for a morning skate, you know,
grab my my lunch from our our team chef, and
be home around noon. I'll probably just hang out and
take a nap from from like one to the two
thirty three ish, and then you waked up the rank
(03:35):
and be at the rink by you know, three forty
five and from there. Yeah, just just doing a quick little,
you know, pregame workout, warming up, getting ready for the
seven o'clock game. Just just finding ways to just stay loose.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah. Well, I like about your story talking to Logan Thompson,
goalie of the Capitols. You went undrafted in the draft,
you signed with Vegas, eventually asked for a trade, and
then obviously proved to be correct. You really did bet
on yourself. I mean, you knew you could be a
starting goalie and you could carry the workload. How much
did last year feel good personally to be like, yeah,
(04:07):
I knew I was that guy or I could be
that guy.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, it was you. It was exciting. I was happy
and really thankful for the opportunity that you know, Washington
gave me and Carbs, the team and the management belief
shown in me. And yeah, it was definitely a step
in the right direction for me, I think, and the
team of the Washington Capitals. But you know, obviously I'm
happy with it, but you know, I think there's still
a lot more that we can do improve around this
(04:32):
league and more I want to you know, it was
a step in the right direction, but still a lot
more work to be done.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
You know, I coach high school hockey here at Georgetown Prep,
and there's a lot of pressure, I think on youth
nowadays to focus on one sport early on. You're obviously
playing at the highest level professional hockey. Growing up, did
you play more sports than chess hockey or his hockey?
Kind of your solo?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Dollo hockey was my solo. My My dad was very
much that mentality that you know, hockey's your sport, You're
sticking with it as much as I wanted to play
other sports, and still too to this day. I am
a terrible I'm a one fourn athlete. That's for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
If you had to pick another sport in the DC
area to play for, though, if you had to play
for the Commanders or the Nationals, or the Wizards, or
the Ravens or the Oriols, who would you pick to
play for?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I think the Commanders looks it looks like it could
be a good time. They got a good day, had
a good following, and they got Daniels there. I think
I think I'd go with the Commanders.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Hell yes, Logan Man a pleasure. Thanks for being on
the show Man best love this season. I'm coming next
Tuesday Friday. I'll be at the game, so looking forward
to get high. And I'm the Xbott appreciate you that awesome.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Thank you very much you I'll see you very soon
in your morning show.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
That's true at iHeartRadio.
