Speaker 1 (00:00):
We got Rita Aura on the phone. It's the Jubile Show.
She's got a new album coming out July fourteenth, and
her new song is out right now called Praising You.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
So just so a note, it's jibbol all right or jubil?
How do you pronounce it?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
How do you want to pronounce it?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Is my accent my accents of it?

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Jubil, yeah, jubil Yeah, yeah, it's fine. You know, you
tell me, Bob if you want it's.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Vibe, that's the one. That's what I'm gonna call.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Okay, Well, if you change your mind halfway through, Rita Aura,
I won't be offended anyway. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
I'm excited man, new record. I'm just feeling really good.
But yeah, I'm blessed, thank you. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
I'm good too. The vibe isn't a positive place here.
We don't have a new song to talk about or
a new album coming out soon, but still good.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, we're so excited for your new album and it
drops July fourteenth, so that's soon.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Thank you, well exactly that.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
You know.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
I'm happy that we pulled this off from Praising You
is its own thing, and yeah, I'm just happy it's out.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
How did that come out?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Because for those that don't know, fat Boy Slim is
the one that had the original song, and were you
teamed up with fat Boy Slim to do this?

Speaker 1 (01:07):
How did that come together?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Well?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Actually, it was all just like a dream for me.
I was like, could you imagine dot dot dot like
in the studio? I was like, that would be cool,
never going to happen.

Speaker 6 (01:15):
Then I went to this huge music festival called Glastonbury
and then I kind of stalked him. It was like
two three o'clock in the morning, and then after that
I said, listen, this might be crazy, but I have
this really cool idea and he loved it.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
And I don't know, I think it's timing. I guess
timing is everything.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Real, Aura, You've had a fun life.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
Huh, I'd say that, you know obviously like everyone else,
ups and down for sure, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
For sure. But you can just tell from your vibe
you enjoy living like all parts of life.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
It seems like, yeah, you know, I definitely like to
celebrate the highs for sure, if you know what I'm saying, Like,
I really do make the most.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
Of carving time out of my life to like constantly
get inspiration, Like for this album, for example, it took
me like five years, but it really had to make
sense and it had to come from real truth. So
that's what this is basically is like that, it's a
journal that's turned into songs that's turned into a record.
So yeah, that comes out in July.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Really nervous, really excited, and all mixed emotions.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I love that you talk about how this is about
love when you get inspired by the people around you.
But now going into the release of this album and
this new chapter of your life, really, how do you
feel about yourself?

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Like, what is your relationship with you? Like right now,
I know it's.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
Well music, Yeah, no, it's good though, but music's always
been my therapy.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Like I always genuinely would write and sometimes it would
turn into nothing, but I'm always journaling, like it's just
so important for my mental health to do that.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
I think what I love the most is that I
don't know the future.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
I'm not putting pressure on myself to make anything succeed,
but I'm happy enough to capture the moment so I
could feel like that was a good time in my life.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah? And the video for your new songwrider, Aura, I
like to say first and last name every time for
praising you. You worked on that with your husband, right, Yes.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's like a mini movie.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
It's really cool.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Actually, if you've seen it, it's like a dance or
dish and.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Inspired by flash Dance, all that jazz fame, like all my.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Favorite Like, I love your husband. I know you love him.
I love Yeah. He's great, isn't he? Oh my god,
he's just amazing. For those who don't know you're married
to Taik. He's done a bunch of stuff. But like
the last couple of Thror movies, those are his. But
I respect his work so much. He's like somebody that
I would aspire to be like. So, I think that's
cool that you guys got to work together on this video.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah. I was really excited because I really like him too.
You know, I love his work that you do.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
I respect it.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I just said, you know what, have fun with this video.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
I think Juble's asking if you can have your husband.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah again, Jebel's asking if you can have him.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
I'll set up a date.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
That would be so amazing.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I feel like you don't actually want to talk to me.
You're just talking to me to guess.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I was like, for real, though, working with your spouse
can be hard. Did you and your husband work together
well when you made the video?

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:59):
And no, listen, we've never worked together before.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
This was a great introduction, I think to hopefully lots
of projects in the future. We always like bounce ideas
off each other, like in the house and things like
that and be like, oh, that's cool, wouldn't that be cool?

Speaker 2 (04:10):
And blah blah blah, And that was the same with
this video. I was like, what are you saying? And
he was like, well, hello, the original is so cool.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
Why don't we just sort of like do something off
that and do this audition but like.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
You're really bad, but you think you're really good. And
I was like, yeah, okay, that's it.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
We have it.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
So it's like things like that, that's cool. You know what,
Rita or I have a better idea. You are obviously
wildly talented, wildly creative, right, thank you. Your husband is
wildly talented, wildly creative, and you guys obviously have some
amazing conversations and create boys to say, I know you
guys adopt me. I always love to just be a
part of that household.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
So yeah, come on down, listen the more than Mary.
We love the party.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Well, I know we're almost out of time with you, Rita,
and you're very busy, and I don't want to rush
to have to say goodbye to my future family.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Step I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
What legal guardian I mean, I don't know. Is there
anything that you haven't done that you want to do?

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (05:11):
For me, film is a lovely transition.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
I'd love to do something that's a little bit more physical,
attle bit.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
More action driven. Like I love action movies. I'm like
a huge action buff.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Who's your favorite action hero in like Life?

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
I mean there's a lot, obviously, Michelle Fifer and Catwoman
I think you know. Batman was like my dream because
she was like the hottest thing on planet Earth. And
also all the Fast and Furious films, I just love it.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
I just love them. I'm seeing like Marvel in your future.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Man.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
You know I'll take that, yeah, or Fast and Furious
for number one hundred and twenty two.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
You know, we all just want to be Vin diesel.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Bro, Well, thank you for coming on the show. We'll
make sure everybody checks out your new song. Praising you
and looks for the album drop on July fourteenth. Really
enjoyed talking to you and also continued success. Thank you
very much.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Thank you for playing this record. It means the world
to me. Thanks so welcoming me. You guys are awesome,
so kind, Thank you so much

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Absolutely, thank care, Thank you,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
