Speaker 1 (00:01):
The Jewel Show on demand. When you think of twerking,
you usually think of one person or the person's but
I'm talking about Lizza. Yeah, it's The Jewel Show and
Lizzo is on the show right now. She's actually on
zoom waiting for us to start the chat. Do we
have the confetti cannon already? Who have it in hand?

(00:22):
I'm ready to go. Remember every single guest on this show,
we surprised them with the coffetti cannon as soon as
we welcome them on the air. So Alex has the
coffetti cannon ready to go, and we'll see what Lizzo's
reaction to it is. Hey, Lizzo, what's up? Surprise the show?

(00:42):
How did y'all do that? Are y'all in the same Yeah,
I had a confetti cannon. You didn't expect that, did you, Lizzo?
And that was so cool. Yeah. They told us before
you came on the show, Lizzo, that this is your
last interview of the day. You've got a lot of
things going on, but that has to be your most
exciting thing right now in your life, is that you're
almost done with your radio interview. You look so beautiful. Yes,

(01:07):
thank you, daddy, your glam is on point today and
your hair is looking flawless. Is that fit you got on?
Is that from your clothing line? Just where am I
hitty hanging out? Okay, okay your clothing line, Nitty has
to be killing it right now. You have to be
making bank. Yeah, I know. Very cool though, you know, man,

(01:31):
I just want to have one product workout for me
where someone can ask you about it and go, hey,
you're making killing off that, and my answer can be
a laugh, Yes I am. That's my dream in life.
I just have one of those. You've got a bunch. Yeah.
What is the one thing you're excited about the most
right now? Lizzo? I think tour. I mean I haven't
been on tour since twenty nineteen early twenty and now

(01:54):
I'm taking the girls from Watch Out for the Big
Girls with me on the road and I'm doing my
first arena show. So it's just it's I'm so excited
because y'all know I like, I love to perform live,
like I'm I thrive live. This is my bread and
butter what I do. Yeah, your first arena tour, that's
all you That's pretty crazy. Did you ever think that

(02:15):
you would make it that far less though. You know,
I've done like one off events where you know, I
play an arena with you know, other artists, so I
know what it feels like in that space, and I've
also opened for arena artists. But yeah, to like sell
it out on your own and to really command that
much space every single night for your music is like, yeah,

(02:38):
it's a big deal to me. Like, I never thought
I would make it this far. I've been playing clubs
and theaters like for a thousand years. Okay, you still
get nervous at all about ticket sales. I know you
probably get the you're excited to perform nerves, not the
nerves like I'm scared to perform with I get nervous
about ticket sales. That's just like I'm not you know,

(03:01):
this tour is damn near sold out. I would say
it's ninety percent sold out. There's a few cities that haven't,
and you know it's not I don't take it personally.
I'm not like no one likes me because I didn't
sell the chicket is It's just like sometimes people don't know,
you know. I feel like the more awareness that can
bring to the fact that I'm coming to your city.
Like there's so many times I'll be on Instagram live

(03:22):
now to this day and they'll be like, hey, are
you coming to Portland? Are you coming? I'm like, yeah,
I posted it like four months ago, don't know. And
that's the worst thing is when you go do the show,
Like you go to Portland, right, it's sold out, and
then you leave and then like a day after someone's like,
you gotta come to Portland. You're like, I was just there.

(03:43):
Last time we had you on the show, Alex had
mentioned something to you and she wanted to talk to
you for a second. I told you that you were
a first decand tourist, like I am right because I
looked up your birthday and stuff because I'm super in astrology.
And then you ask me what that means, and I
completely know what that means, and I just couldn't tell
you because I'm speaking of though, and I felt like
an idiot. So I was like, oh my god, I
didn't explain that at all. But so decons are each

(04:06):
zodiac sign has three decons and therefore each ten days
of the month. So the first ten days is first decond, second, second,
you know, third, third, and they basically dig deeper into
your birch chart and they tell you more about your
soul and like who you are as a person and
your personality and things like that. So oh, yep, you

(04:26):
know how tourists all have like the same like sort
of like we're stubborn. You know, it can be lazy,
you know, things like that, but each decon has it
even digs deeper to like more personality traits. I'm not lazy,
so neither am I, but we can be. Right now,
I will say April toruses are different than May chorus, absolutely,

(04:47):
and then early chruses are way different than late stage
May toruses because then damn near Gemini. All right, lizzoh, hey,
we know that you're busy. Obviously you got lost going on,
and we'll make sure people check out your tour. Also,
this is your last radio interview of the day, so
we want to let you go have some peace the
rest of your day. But we did look at all

(05:07):
the cities that you're going to on your tour, Lizzo,
and reach out to a bunch of people to see
if we can make something happen. And in all the
cities that you're going to be going to, we've reached
out to try to make something happen. We did get
one reply. One of your last stops is in Seattle, Washington,
and what we did was look for some of the
tallest buildings in cities to see if they would let
us work with you on top of the building and
film it. They have the Space Needle, which is the

(05:29):
real tall building. If you ever watched anything that has
to do with the city of Seattle, it's the real
tall building. It looks like an alien spaceship. Anyway, we
talk to the people and how would you like to
work with us on top of the Space Needle, like
actually on top of it? How like, yeah, you can
go up there. It's safe. Yeah, it's safe. It's safe.

(05:52):
I'd be outside, yeah, on top of the space but
it's safe. And we'll put our hands on the railings
and back it up and pick it up again. I
mean that sounds so scary and fun. Like I'm like,
but who's gonna be flying the drones to get this footage?
You don't about You're the one with an arena to

(06:15):
where this was your idea. Oh right, you're gonna want
to do it if you will talk with us on
top of a very tall building, Lizzo, we can make
that happen, like, we can figure it out. So hey,
we'll try to figure that out at the very least.
Maybe next time you can stop by the studio. But
also we wouldn't be if you didn't because you're super busy.

(06:37):
Thank you for coming on the show. Yes, continued success,
it's always fun talking and congratulations on special It was
much needed and you know we love it. Great record, Yeah,
thank you, thank you. The Jewel Show on Demand

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
