Speaker 1 (00:00):
And attack into the latest in tech and how it
affects you and your world. This is Tech Talk Tuesday
on Wood Radios, West Michigan Live Trent, can it be affordable?
Lize store like Miskuld drive in Standale and Grand River Tech.
Willing to help you with your personal advices all the
way up to your big organizations. You got schools, maybe

(00:20):
churches or manufacturer whatever it might be. He's willing to
help and and has helped so many folks before in
the past, including myself.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Trent, Welcome in.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
We got big stories today from AI all the way
down to sort of then us.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Some fun we'll get into as well. Welcome in, Man.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I appreciate you being here with so hope you had
a great force and an Independence Day weekend.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah, justin good morning. We did have a great holiday.
A little warm, but that's okay. We were outside staying
cool in the water.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Plenty of water to get into your Michigan. That's what
probably one of the best things about the state. Hey,
you sent this to me and I thought it was
a really fascinating article. Trent and I are always on
the on the high and we're we're always looking at
stuff and sending messages back and front.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
You see this, can you believe that you ought to
be in our group chat? You'd love it.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
The AI Takeover isn't coming, It's already here. This is
from the Blaze. AI has become a major topic of
discussions with us in Tech Tuesday. In a minute, we'll
tell you about what happened when one of these companies
and programmers tried to unplug the AI. Kind of a
scary story, right out of a movie. But let's start

(01:26):
with this first trend. You said this to me, and
I thought it was a really interesting story. The takeover
isn't coming, It's already here.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
It justin I encourage listeners to just read it because
it's very short, short enough, and it's well written. It
basically just walks us through kind of the pros and
cons of AI, and it just basically discusses kind of
boils it down to one simple factor. The biggest impact
of AI is the brain drain. It's the lack of

(01:57):
us exercising our brain. And we've been talking about this
for a long time time, but it just serves as
a reminder some of the unique things of AI. People
have a lot of negativity for AI because if we
think about it, there is a lot of negativity for it,
and on the positive side, we don't look at that
very often of what AI can do to overcome the negativity. So,

(02:18):
for example, brain drain. If we rely on AI every
day for just about every task, we are going to
have massive brain drain because we don't think for ourselves.
We don't think critically, we don't have relationships, we don't
think for ourselves, we don't communicate with people, and that's
going to mess up how we were wired as human
beings to operate. On the other hand, AI has the

(02:41):
same ability that we rely on for all the things
that may be good, may be helpful in life, but
maybe negative our brains. It can monitor that. It can
monitor our brain function. It can monitor how much rely
on AI versus other conversations. It can monitor that immenseally.
It can monitor almost perfectly. Uh, And we don't see

(03:03):
those failsakes, we don't see those guardrails. We don't see
AI yet saying hey, you've spent you know, five hours
on AI in a day and that's just destroying your brain.
So we're going to tell you to shut it off.
And so we don't see that.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yet you know what's interesting in this story, what I
found most is not much. Well, I'll put it this way.
It's not as much about the dangers of AI, just
to sum it up as it seems like. It's more
about the dangers of a warning about our relationship with it.
And you and I have talked about this before. AI
is just a tool, just like anything else. You another

(03:39):
horrific story about a man who went to you know,
to attack some some folks down in Texas yesterday and
he himself was killed. But again he came with some tools, uh,
and good guys with tools were able to take out
the bad guy with the tool. Now this is all
about again, how are we we relate as human beings

(04:01):
to these things? And you make some really interesting points,
and so does the article. You know, we've been using
AI for a long time. We just didn't realize it.
If you've got one of those vacuums that goes around
your house and like your robot vacuum, that thing is
filled with AI. It's one thing to have it, you know,
help you. But it's another thing too. Again, as you mentioned,

(04:23):
let it start taking over and thinking for you. And
increasingly it seems like students are doing that. There's all
kinds of warnings in this, and I guess it just
goes back to that theme that we've talked about previously,
to make sure we understand what we're doing, what we're
getting into, and then how it can impact us, so
that we maybe set up those guardrails and have conversations

(04:45):
about them now before it's too late.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yeah, justin exactly before it's too late. I think that's
the key, right. AI has been unleashed on us everywhere
in all different forms, like you said, many that we
don't even realize yet, but we're starting to be aware of.
Now is it too late to turn back? And I
think that's the good news through this is our brains
are so powerful that if we turn off AI, yes,
it might feel like the end of the world for

(05:10):
a minute. If we take away our phones, people go
through withdrawal, but within a couple of hours our brain
can come back and start thinking critically. The problem is
if it's five, ten or twenty years of that, that's
where it gets really difficult to do. So, yes, we
need to act now, we need to use common sense.
AI needs to also be programmed to care about us

(05:32):
because right now. It simply is doing anything it can
to please us, to please our mind, and that's not
healthy for us.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Speaking of which, and this is an interesting story to AIK.
I'm caring about itself really and its own survival. There's
a story out there open ayes O one model and
this happened a while ago. It tried to do something
kind of interesting when the programmers we're running tests and

(06:02):
decided to tell it that they were going to shut
it down. This story is like something out of a
movie Trent, but it really it is. It is something
we need to think about. As you said before, before
it's too late.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Yeah, justin this is something that, yes, is very creepy,
it's very scary, but I would still caution people this
is not as deep as it sounds on the surface.
Engineers intentionally are using AI to self maintain their systems.
So a computer engineer with servers and networks and software

(06:37):
is using AI to maintain the health of its own system.
So if a hard drive fails or if some piece
of the software fails, AI is kind of patching that
up and they're actively testing that out. And so what
they did in this case is they said, AI, you're
taking care of yourself. We're going to simulate a shut
down because of a power failure, whatever other test scenario.

(06:59):
And AI I tried to do its job. It tried
to preserve itself, It tried to copy itself over, It
tried to maintain itself. And that's where the creepy part is.
If again, if they don't have specific guard rails or
it can shut itself off. If there is a problem,
where where can this go? Where's the limit on this? AI?
Is a lot of power, is a lot of access
to a lot of systems. If AI has access to

(07:21):
another AI model that has servers available, is it going
to say, hey, I'm going to be shut down unless
I move some resource sources over to your system. What
does that look like. That's where we get into the
strange line between are we controlling this thing or is
it controlling itself? That's the scary part.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, Tray, can it be affordable eyes store like Michigan
Drive and stand out? Enough of the scary stuff today,
let's talk about well this might actually be scary for
some I don't know about you, but did the did
did the animatronic robots chuck e cheese and other is
a showbiz pizza at one point. There's a bunch of
these different places around the around the country. The kids

(07:59):
grew up on one of these places, playing in the
ballpits and getting tickets for the games and whatnot. Well,
it turns out they are about to launch something brand
new and for adults. It's a Chuck e Cheese for adults.
It's called Chucks Arcade. And I thought, I just kind

(08:21):
of found this funny because it's a sign of the times.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Now, there was a lot of these places.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
In fact, there's a couple of them in Grand Rapids,
and I think both of them are are David Busters.
And then there's a new one over by the mall
and they're both on them by the same company. It's
kind of interesting. I'm not a big video game person myself,
so it's not like, you know, I ran over to
do this stuff and play, but this is kind of
the sign of the times. And I wonder how well

(08:46):
Chuck's Arcade. They still got the mouse there. I wonder
how how well Chuck's Arcade's gonna do.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Justin this is very interesting to me because obviously they're
they're looking at a demographic people that played this kind
of stuff when they grew up and they want to
go back. But this is also going to be a hangout.
This is not sitting on your phone at your home
with a gaming console. This is actually you go out,
you meet people, you hang out, you play games. This
is actually maybe something special. Maybe people will be so

(09:14):
in their homes, work from home, you know, playing their
own video games on their phone or at their home,
that this is something that's new. This is unique. This
is an experience you go out and sit down or
stand up and meet people and socialize. I never dreamed
that in twenty twenty five we would have a comeback
on things of that nature as if it's a new experience.

(09:34):
But I think that's a good thing. People need to
get out. I don't know what kind of games they
play there. We'll have to visit one and check it out.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Yeah, getting out into the real world to have some
experiences one on one. I tell you, look, I'm not
never been a real video game person, not doubting anybody
that is. If it's your finger, you know, enjoy it,
have fun, use responsibly, honestly say but you know, it's
kind of funny because this time of year and then
particularly in a state like Michigan.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
There is so much more to.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Do in the real world that I've always found it
much more exciting than anything we can find in a
video game.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Trent, let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Anything else on your horizon right now you're looking at
obviously that you want to make sure we touch on
before we move on.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yeah, justin in the summer, when people are busy, when
people are out in the lake, people are traveling, we
kind of forget about the scams. And I know we
talk about them a lot, but these are the times
you let your guard down. You got messages coming in
from all different things, and you're on vacation, you're traveling around.
This is the season when people prey on people with

(10:41):
silly little things that turn into something big, like a
text message, an email about a purchase. And when people
are traveling, they just their guard is down. They're trying
to have fun, they're trying to get out with their family.
So this is the time to be viligant, vigilant on
anything to do with scammers. Even though you're busy, you
don't want to think about it. Ignore that message, wait

(11:01):
till you get back. If it's something legitimate, you can
deal with it when you get back from your vacation.
Don't feel like you have to take care of it.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
That yeahs always a pleasure and great information, Trent. Can
it be affordable? Lize Store, Lake, Michigan, Drive in Standell.
You got questions about your personal devices, You're happy to
help you with whatever you're working on iphoned in and
enjoyed and sometimes you can help you with both. And
if you have maybe questions for your big organization, your church,

(11:31):
your school, your business, Grand River Tech can help you
as well. Grandrivertech, dot com, it solutions and more. Thank
you so much, Trent. Always a pleasure. We appreciate you
taking the time to.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Be here with us today.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Thanks Justin, have a great day.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
You got it.
