Speaker 1 (00:01):
By from higher top Monroe Center in downtown Grand Rapids.
We're talking about what matters most to you. When West
Michigan joined the conversation. Now at six one six seven
seven four twenty four twenty four. At six one, six
seven seven four twenty four to twenty four, it's West
Michigan Live with Justin Barklay on Wood Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Now.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Welcome man. It's better than a game show prize. Trump's
just been nominated. We'll give you the story about that.
On the way. Tara Fletter is going out the latest
on an attack down at the border you're gonna want
to hear about with Michigan ties and the search continues.

(00:41):
In day five. Prayers as well for those folks in
uh In, Texas suffering the flash flooding, all of it
and more coming up today, and be thankful that you're
here today as well. So strap in, let's get to it.
It's West Michigan line in our Big Three. Let's kick
the guy news, weather, and traffic.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
I'm his stories of the day. We are talking about
what matters most in West Michigan and beyond. This is
the Big three. Now speak three.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah, the story you matter. You're talking about these around
the water, cool the dinner table, nowtter where you are.
Folks at Putland Home working standing by, ready to help
you whether you want to buy, refly home equity, lot
of credit, reverse mortgage, and morning see. They got a
custom solutions for every individual need. We've used them three
different times and we've absolutely been thrilled. They're faster, better

(01:39):
than the big banks. And again we saved thousands and
so many people that listen to this program Hhmlynding dot com.
Called Dave Galloway and the team today number one. Yes, uh,
tariff letters who have been going out the last couple
of days, and we've actually gotten a chance to see
some of those letters on the inside President Trump's letter

(02:00):
to Prime Minister of Japan talking about what they have
to look forward to, and of course twenty five percent
tariffun Japanese goods starting August first. The rest of them
have been delayed until the same day, August first, but
you'll hear more about this in the coming days. Speaking

(02:23):
of the big meals, he was nominated Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin nat Yahoo formerly making the nomination for President Trump
of the Nobel Peace Prize, yesterday during a White House dinner,
presenting him with the nomination letter raising his role and
brokering the Abraham Accords in a sixty day ceasefire between

(02:44):
Israel and Amas, as well as co leading diplomatic efforts
there with Cutter and Egypt as well. You're we're recording
him violence from Democrats. He attacked board agents hours after
the Democrats said they and their voters want blood. Twenty

(03:06):
seven year old now man from now They say Michigan.
He was a Michigan resident at one point had an ID.
He had a car that had a license plate that
sent Michigan on a two. Louis Ryan Louise Mosquerra been
reported missing from West Laco, Texas earlier yesterday morning. Trophy

(03:29):
White Michigan plated sedan to the US Border Patrol Annex
near McCallen, that very busy area on the border McCallen
International Airport. Wearing tactical gear and armed with a rifle.
He opened fire on agents and they're building Border Patrol
agents and the police there. McCallum returning fire, killing him

(03:52):
before he could enter. Some eerie messages printed on not
only his weapon but also the car are that he
used as well courtis Dye. The shootout injured three individuals,
including one officer struck in the knee, all expected to recover.

(04:13):
But those folks there found additional firearms, ammunition backpacks, and
that phrase, which I believe was God's will in Latin
now is also a tie into a video game on this.
So I've got to be careful about how we we
we we break this down. But let me do just
that in just moments, because there's more of the story

(04:36):
in Democrats pushing violent rhetoric has to be addressed because
you know they'd be NonStop on all the news shows
if it was a Republican, a Trump voter, who is
responsible for this? We're going to get into it.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Hang on called Justin Now at six one six seven seven,
twenty four twenty four at six one, six seven seven
twenty four to twenty four West Michigan Live with Justin
Barr on News Radio Wood thirteen hundred and one six
nine f M.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Now. They say in the chat right now, getting people
saying he was from Luddington. Well, I don't know the
full and some of these details might be a little
bit often sketchy because I've seen reports. Yeah, I had
a Michigan driver's license. But where was he from originally
and whatnot. There's there's probably more to that story. But

(05:25):
again this does need to be broken down and discussed
because it's again another situation where we have and very unfortunately,
calls for violence from lots of folks on the left
and then just hours later this this happens. So what
is course, So it's a heart of God, that's what

(05:46):
it does. Heart of God. In the context in McAllan
they're saying that it appears to reference something more sinister.
The phrase spray painted on the vehicle his gear as well,
they say, linked to a fictional terrorist group from a
video game, the video game Call of Duty Black Ops two.

(06:07):
In the game, that phrase Quarterstai is a populist insurgent
movement led by the antagonist Raoul Menandez, who manipulates public
opinion to spark a global conflict. Well, that sounds wonderful,
doesn't It just sounds it just sounds wonderful. Now, there's
a fine line between entertainment and fact in right, you know, reality,

(06:32):
and unfortunately, lots of folks on the left with mental
health issues. By the way, this is just a fact.
It's not my opinion, this is based on studies. Research
has been done. Folks on the left and have mental
health issues, and that's why when they get up and
they make the calls that they do for violence, you know, Democrats,

(06:55):
people in the news media, whoever, activists, whoever it might be.
I'm very concerned by this because all the tanks is
one person who's off their rocker, off the meds, whatever
it might be, and they move forward with something like this.
In the game, that phrase and the group lodge a
global coordinated cyber attacks and violent uprisings supposedly in the

(07:20):
name of the ninety nine percent against corrupt global elites.
In real life, it seems the shooter may have been
inspired or influenced by the fictional ideology, possibly as part
of the delusional narrative or mental health crisis he was undergoing.
A shorty say, they're investigating whether the shooter intended to

(07:40):
imitate or symbolize alignment with the group's anti government themes.
It's not anti government would be anti ice in his mind.
So while that group literally means heart of God, in
this case, it's likely referencing and imagined extremist cause rooting
in the video game Lord not real world in fact.

(08:05):
But again there's more to this story. More will come out. Again.
You're seeing if you're watching behind the scenes last stream
that the picture of the man who is responsible on
the ID where that took place, where he was taken
out and and unfortunately and the blurred out picture now

(08:26):
of him laying on the ground dead because of it.
There's that vehicle again from from Michigan. Now I don't
know if he was living in Texas because at least
with family, maybe he was visiting Texas. I don't know
the full story on that. And again a lot of
that is going to continue to come out early on.
When you have you know, you have early reports, it's

(08:49):
it's always best just to sort of take a step
back and try to get all the facts. And we
will on this case and who this is. But again
it does seem at least from everything that we have
been told so far and the information available, but this
was someone who was intentionally and I would say he's Hispanic.

(09:11):
I don't know the full story and whether he was
you know, here legally.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Or not.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
You may say, well he's got a driver's license, Well, yeah,
in Michigan, that doesn't mean much but what we do
know is that just you know, hours after Democrats said
they wanted voters, the voters wanted blood. And much of
this rhetoric was really surrounding the big beautiful Bill Ice
and all of the other issues that they've had to

(09:40):
deal with recently in the find out era. Anyway, that's
that's what That's what transpired next, all right, got to
get into a few other things. We've got some other
stories that you probably want to hear about today. Tea
TSA making big Moses. If you've got to fly in

(10:01):
the near future, you may not have to take your
shoes off. Now, there's questions about whether you really think
that's a good idea or not. But that's a story
making wave. And then we got another big one today
too that I think folks gonna be talking about as
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy on Fox News with a

(10:22):
big announcement this oneing too. Hang on, we get into
all of that and more coming up. Join the program
at any time. In the meantime, we'll get an update
from the folks at the Midwestern or at the Midwesterner
Dot News and hear from you. They talk Back feature
on the iHeartRadio app. Click that microphone button right next
to the play button. Let it rip. But first, if
you're able, please stand and honor our national anthem.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
It's one of the truthscu sis negotiable. It's Western Michigan
Live with Justin Barclay on NewsRadio Wood thirteen hundred and
one oh six nine a FM.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
Here are your headlines from the Midwesterner this Tuesday, July eighth.
I'm Robin Poffman. It's a Midwesterner. Dot news original story.
Detroit ranked the most stressed city due to high unemployment,
high crime, and divorce rates. This according to a new
wallet Hub study. Governor Whitmer's Michigan again falling behind in
education and economic opportunities. It's another Midwesterner. Dot news original story.

(12:31):
Ice arrests here in Michigan jumping one hundred and fifty
four percent since President Trump taking office back in January.
Borders are Tom Homan promising to double the number of
illegal aliens removed on a daily basis, and President Trump
welcoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahoo to the White House.
The two taking questions from reporters prior to a dinner.

(12:52):
Net and Yahoo presenting Trump with the paper he submitted
nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
We had a great time.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
There's a lot of work, but we had a great
result recently, and we're gonna have a lot of great results.

Speaker 6 (13:05):
So it's great to have you.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
Thank you very much for these stories and more. Visit
the Midwesterner at the Western News.

Speaker 7 (13:13):
We certainly call on Democrats to tone down their rhetoric
against Ice and Border Patrol agents, who again are everyday
men and women. I would encourage AOC and other Democrats
to actually meet with the United States Border Patrol. These
are honorable Americans who are just simply trying to do
their job to enforce the law. They go home to
their families every night, just like we all do, and

(13:33):
they deserve respect and dignity for trying to enforce our
nations immigration laws and to remove public safety threats from
our communities. The White House is aware of the shooting
that took place today in Texas and we are working
with the appropriate federal agencies to get to the bottom
of what happened.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
That was Carolyn Levitt Lightouse Press Secretary yesterday in response
Tom Hollman the she's what he's.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
I've been warning about this for two months. I think
the last time I did the show, Laurd we talked
about I also talked about in the Handity show that
I've been around a long time. I said, if the
rhetoric didn't decrease significantly, it's going to end up with
loss of life. It's going to end up with a
use of force of either against a protester turning turning criminal,

(14:21):
or against ice or Borbital Layden. Someone's someone's someone's gonna
be seriously seriously injury, if not killed. And of course
the media attacked me. You know, if you're in my
home and you know he's he's trying to someone's going
to die. Look, I've been around a long time. You
got members of Congress JFPU compared to the terrorists, AOC says,
we're all they're violent people, civil and constitutions of the rights.
You got Jeffries out running his mouth bow the Caestopo,

(14:44):
you know, and and it just going ramped up. Rhetoric
is going to cause a situation where someone lose their life.
We saw that today. I was hoping I'd be wrong,
but I wasn't. And I'll tell you something else. It's
not the end unless we stopped the hateful of rhetoric
against ICE and Bordertro parents and Nazis. Yeah, there's gonna
be more situations like that. ICE has already stepped up

(15:05):
enforcement posture at their facilities, more trust on the same thing.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
But the rhetoric has to stop.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
There's simply enforcing law that Congress enacted. So for Congress
to attack them to force in the laws they wrote,
it's it's ridiculous. It's going to end in bloodshed. I
think there will be more bloodshed.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
God forbid, but it is it is. Unfortunately, Yeah, he's right,
it's it's easy to predict this stuff. Again, Democrats calling
or saying their voters want blood just ours. By the way,
it's Trump resistance, it's what it's all about. Now, this
was a specifically in relation to one big beautiful bill immigration,

(15:43):
some of the other things that they're pushing back on.
But again, folks, this stuff, this is this is uh,
he's not He's not wrong on this. You can it's
easy to spot. It's easy to kind of see where
where all of this all of this is going. Hey,
we have other big news and big announcements coming through

(16:05):
to day, TSA saying that you may not have to
take your shoes off coming Sunday anymore at the airports.
TSA making a bit of the news here as a
memo came out, looks like lead to one of the
transportation pieces. These folks it right in these industry pieces.

(16:29):
That's another big speaking of transportation, Sean Duffy, this Secretary
of Transportation on Fox and Friends this morning, saying that
they're going to make a big move when it comes
to who's on the road and in those big trucks.

Speaker 8 (16:43):
We got some news on when it comes to trucking
in the United States. And one thing that I think
that it might be of interest to a lot of
people are new rules requiring that if you want to
drive an eighteen wheeler on our roads with a commercial license,
you're going to have to learn how to speak English
and understand and read English so that you can be

(17:03):
trusted to know all of the regulations and safety precautions
required to drive these eighteen wheelers well.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
All the road signs, but also if you get in
a car crash or if you're pulled over by law enforcement,
if able to communicate, you know what you have on
your truck on your rig. Listen, this is not a
new rule. By the way, We've the English only requirement
or English proficiency requirement has been on the books for
a long time. It's just that Barack Obama made sure
that if you violated that rule, it was a slap
on the wrist. We're going back to the old rule

(17:32):
of we're going to put your rig out of service
and make sure that you don't drive if you can't
speak the language, which, again, this is just common sense.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
This is our.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
Language language English. If you're going to get on the
road with one of these potentially dangerous vehicles, speak our language.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Yeah, that's common sense. So I just can't imagine it
was never not a rule, They just never enforced it Obama, Biden,
et cetera. This is something that I think not a
lot of people can obviously and easily back. More stories.
In fact, day five of the search and rescue now
turning mostly to a recovery effort in Florida. Still praying

(18:12):
for those folks there, one hundred and four deaths so
far confirmed. We have more good news though, because there
are rescues that are happening. Stories a miracle after miracle
that you're hearing, going to make sure that we give
you those as well before we get out of here today.
So we'll have those and a tech talk segment that
you won't want to miss. So our good friend trend.
Can it be affordable? Eyestorela miss can drive in Standale.

(18:35):
There's AI news. What happened when they tried to unplug
one of these AI models. It's really it really is.
It's like something out of a movie. We'll talk about
that and much more back with you after this on
West Queshcan Live. You love it, We all love it.

(18:57):
We all pay the prices right to get here to
this point and enjoy it. And if you're not enjoying
your summer, folks, I'm here to tell you the Good
feed Store can help, especially if you got foot pain,
back pain, the pain, any of the issues in your legs.
They could help you today, just like that. But they did.

(19:18):
They did me. I walked in, tried on some of
the Good feed Store art supports and it was a
game changer. My pain gone. I feel more balanced, more stable,
my body just functions better, and I can finally enjoy
all of the activities without paying for it later. So
if you're ready to get back into well all of
the fun of summer, just feeling good. Hop into the

(19:40):
Good Feed Store today twenty eighth Street, right in front
of Costco or in Portage on Westage in front of Coals.
Come in and experience the good feet feeling for yourself.
But do it today, don't miss out. Don't wait too long,
you're gonna regret it. So much going on today, and

(20:01):
good news in fact, a couple of pieces we just
I wanted to make sure that we shared with you today.
I've got the latest from the I r S. Good
news from the I r S. Can you imagine that.
I'll make sure that you hear it. Plus some real
miracle stories coming out of Texas. As tragic is that
story is with the flash flooding there, it's really hard.

(20:23):
It's hard to take all of that into context and
see the loss of life and the things of tragedy,
real tragedy happening there. But there are some really good
stories coming out too that I think ought to be highlighted.
So we're gonna make sure we do that as well today.
And of course we appreciate you being here for that.

(20:45):
If you taken the time to join the program. You're
You're definitely appreciating. But before we do all of that,
we've got to make sure that we pause with our
good friend.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Tack into the latest in tech and how it affects
you and your world. This is Tech Talk Tuesday on
Wood Radios, West Michigan Live Trent.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Can it be affordable? Lize store like Miska drive in
Standale and Grand River Tech. Willing to help you with
your personal advices all the way up to your big
organizations you got schools, maybe churches, or manufacturer whatever it
might be. He's willing to help and and has helped
so many folks before in the past, including myself. Trent,
welcome in. We got big stories today from AI all

(21:27):
the way down to sort of gn Us. Some fun
we'll get into as well. Well, come in, man. I
appreciate you being here with us. Hope you had a
great fource in an Independence Day weekend.

Speaker 4 (21:37):
Yeah, justin good morning. We did have a great holiday.
A little warm, but that's okay. We were outside staying
cool in the water.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Plenty of water to get into Michigan. That's what probably
one of the best things about the state. Hey, you
sent this to me and I thought it was a
really fascinating article. Trent and I are always on the
on the hunt, and we're always looking at stuff and
sending messages back and forth. You see this, can you
believe you ought to be our group chat? You'd love it.
The AI Takeover isn't coming, It's already here. This is

(22:06):
from the Blaze. AI has become a major topic of
discussions with us in Tech Tuesday. In a minute, we'll
tell you about what happened when one of these companies
and programmers tried to unplug the AI. Kind of a
scary story, right out of a movie. But let's start
with this first trend. You said this to me, and
I thought it was a really interesting story. The takeover

(22:26):
isn't coming, It's already here.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
It just encourage listeners to just read it because it's
very short, short enough, and it's well written. It basically
just walks us through kind of the pros and cons
of AI, and it just basically discusses kind of boils
it down to one simple factor. The biggest impact of
AI is the brain drain. It's the lack of us

(22:52):
exercising our brain. And we've been talking about this for
a long time, but it just serves as a reminder
some of the unique things of a people have a
lot of negativity for AI because if we think about it,
there is a lot of negativity for it, and on
the positive side, we don't look at that very often
of what AI can do to overcome the negativity. So,

(23:14):
for example, brain drain. If we rely on AI every
day for just about every task, we are going to
have massive brain drain because we don't think for ourselves.
We don't think critically, we don't have relationships, we don't
think for ourselves, we don't communicate with people, and that's
going to mess up how we were wired as human
beings to operate. On the other hand, AI has the

(23:37):
same ability that we rely on for all the things
that may be good, may be helpful in life, but
maybe negative our brains. It can monitor that. It can
monitor our brain function. It can monitor how much rely
on AI versus other conversations. It can monitor that immenseally.
It can monitor that almost perfectly, and we don't see

(23:58):
those failsakes, we don't see those guardbrails. We don't see
AI yet saying hey, you've spent you know, five hours
on AI in a day, and that's just destroying your brain.
So we're gonna tell you to shut it off, and
so we don't see that yet.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
You know what's interesting in the story, what I found
most is not much Well, I'll put it this way.
It's not as much about the dangers of AIS, to
sum it up as it seems like. It's more about
the dangers of a warning about our relationship with it.
And you and I have talked about this before. AI
is just a tool, just like anything else. You have

(24:34):
another horrific story about a man who went to you know,
to attack some some folks down in Texas yesterday and
he himself was killed, but again he came with it
with some tools. Uh, and good guys with tools were
able to take out the bad guy with the tool.
Now this is all about again, how are how we

(24:55):
relate as as human beings to these things? And you
make some really interesting points. It's so so does the article.
You know, we've been using AI for a long time.
We just didn't realize it. If you've got one of
those vacuums that goes around your house and like your
robot vacuum, that thing is filled with AI. It's one
thing to have it, you know, help you. But it's
another thing too again, as you mentioned, let it start

(25:19):
taking over and thinking for you, and increasingly it seems
like students are doing that. There's all kinds of warnings
in this, and I guess it just goes back to
that theme that we've talked about previously, to make sure
we understand what we're doing, what we're getting into, and
then how it can impact us, so that we maybe
set up those guardrails and have conversations about them now

(25:41):
before it's too late.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
Yeah, justin exactly before it's too late. I think that's
the key, right. AI has been unleashed on us everywhere
in all different forms, like you said, many that we
don't even realize yet, but we're starting to be aware
of now is it too late to turn back? And
I think that's the good news through this is our
brains are so powerful that if we turn off AI, yes,
it might feel like the end of the world for
a minute. If we take away our phones, people go

(26:09):
through withdrawal, but within a couple of hours our brain
can come back and start thinking critically. The problem is
if it's five, ten or twenty years of that, that's
where it gets really difficult to do so, Yes, we
need to act now, we need to use common sense.
AI needs to also be programmed to care about us,
because right now it simply is doing anything it can

(26:31):
to please us, to please our mind, and that's not
healthy for us.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Speaking of which, and this is an interesting story to
AI think I'm caring about itself really and its own survival.
There's a story out there open ayes O one model
and this happened a while ago. It tried to do
something kind of interesting when the programmers were running tests

(26:57):
and decided to tell it that they were going to
shut it down. This story is like something out of
a movie Trent, but it really it is. It is
something we need to think about. As you said before
before it's too.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Late justin this is something that, yes, is very creepy,
it's very scary, but I would still caution people this
is not as deep as it sounds on the surface.
Engineers intentionally are using AI to self maintain their systems.
So a computer engineer with servers and networks and software

(27:33):
is using AI to maintain the health of its own system.
So if a hard drive fails, or if some piece
of the software fails, AI is kind of patching that
up and they're actively testing that out. And so what
they did in this case is they said, AI, you're
taking care of yourself. We're going to simulate a shut
down because of a power failure, whatever other test scenario.

(27:54):
And AI tried to do its job. It tried to
preserve itself, It tried to copy itself over, it tried
to maintain itself. And that's where the creepy part is.
If again, if they don't have specific guard rails where
it can shut itself off, if there is a problem,
where where can this go? Where's the limit on this? AI?
Is a lot of power, is a lot access to
a lot of systems. If AI has access to another

(28:17):
AI model that has servers available, is it going to say, hey,
I'm going to be shut down unless I move some
resource sources over to your system. What does that look like?
That's where we get into the strange line between are
we controlling this thing or is it controlling itself? That's
the scary part.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Yeah, try can it be affordable? Lize Store Lake, Michigan
drive in stand out. Enough of the scary stuff today,
let's talk about, well, this might actually be scary for
some I don't know about you, but did the did
did the animatronic robots, Chuck E Cheese and other is
a showbiz pizza. At one point, there's a bunch of
these different places around the around the country. The kids

(28:55):
grew up on one of these places, playing in the
ball pits and getting tickets for the games and whatnot. Well,
it turns out they are about to launch something brand
new and for adults. It's a Chuck E Cheese for adults.
It's called Chucks Arcade. And I thought I just kind

(29:16):
of found this funny because it's a sign of the times. Now,
there was a lot of these places. In fact, there's
a couple of them in Grand Rapids, and I think
both of them are are David Busters. And then there's
a new one over by the mall and they're both
on them by the same company. It's kind of interesting.
I'm not a big video game person myself, so it's
not like, you know, I ran over to do this
stuff and play, but this is kind of the sign

(29:38):
of the times. And I wonder how well Chucks Arcade.
They still got the mouse there. I wonder how well
Chuck's Arcade's gonna do.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
Justin this is very interesting to me because obviously they're
they're looking at a demographic people that played this kind
of stuff when they grew up and they want to
go back. But this is also going to be a hangout.
This is not sitting on your phone at your home
with a gaming co So this is actually you go out,
you meet people, you hang out, you play games. This
is actually maybe something special. Maybe people will be so

(30:09):
in their homes, work from home, you know, playing their
own video games on their phone or at their home,
that this is something that's new. This is unique. This
is an experience you go out and sit down or
stand up and meet people and socialize. I never dreamed
that in twenty twenty five we would have a comeback
on things of that nature as if it's a new experience.

(30:30):
But I think that's a good thing. People need to
get out. I don't know what kind of games they
play there. We'll have to visit one and check it out.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Yeah, getting out into the real world to have some
experiences one on one. I tell you, look, I'm not
never been a real video game person, not doubting anybody
that is. If it's your finger, you know, enjoy it,
have fun, use responsibly, as they say. But you know,
it's kind of funny because this time of year, and
in particularly in a state like Michigan, there is so

(30:57):
much more to do in the real world that I've
always found it much more exciting than anything we can
find in a video game. Trent, let me ask you this,
anything else on your horizon right now you're looking at
obviously that you want to make sure we touch on
before we move on.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Yeah, justin in the summer, when people are busy, when
people are out in the lake, people are traveling, we
kind of forget about the scams. And I know we
talk about them a lot, but these are the times
you let your guard down. You got messages coming in
from all different things, and you're on vacation, you're traveling around.
This is the season when people prey on people with

(31:36):
silly little things that turn into something big, like a
text message, an email about a purchase. And when people
are traveling, they just their guard is down. They're trying
to have fun, they're trying to get out with their family.
So this is the time to be viligant, vigilant on
anything to do with scammers. Even though you're busy, you
don't want to think about it, just ignore that message,

(31:56):
wait till you get back. If it's something legitimate, you
can deal with it when you get back from your vacation.
Don't feel like you have to take care of it.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
That Yeah. Always always a pleasure and great information, Trent.
Can it be affordable? Lize Store, Lake, Michigan, Drive in Standdell.

go anywhere. I still have some good news, some miracle
stories that have come out of Texas that'll restore your faith.
And of course I think in a day and age,
especially as we're watching these stories pan out on the
on the TV over the weekend and online, that flash
flooding in Texas we could use a dose of the

(33:04):
good news. Next, hang on.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
FYI like literally, It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barklay

That number expected to rise. Camp Mystic says twenty seven

Go online to guarding your nest egg dot com, but
do it before it is too late. Great stories continue
to come out about what happened. One of the biggest ones,
as we told you yesterday about that hero Scott Ruskin

(35:34):
with the Coast Guards saving one hundred and sixty five lock.
Scott Ruskin joins us now. Scott, thank you for joining
us this morning. Tell us what happened.

Speaker 9 (35:44):
Hey, good morning everyone. Yeah, so I'll kind of give
you as a quick synopsis of what was going on.
The Coast Guard launched us and decided to send a
rescue crew from Airstation Corpus Christy at about six thirty
seven am on Friday, the fourth of July. I just
happen to be on the d Career with ian Opper Blair,
were for seth Reeves some of our crew members in
the Coast Guard, and yeah, they sent us out. We

(36:06):
kind of encountered some pretty serious weather, some of the
worst flying we've ever dealt with. Personally. It took us,
you know, which should have been an hour flight, probably
took us about seven or eight just to get into
the landing zone. Once made about four different approaches trying
to get in. We were able to get get them
boots on the ground with the Air National Guard Department
of Public Safety for Texas game Wardens, and we decided

(36:27):
to leave me on scene at Camp Mystic. That was
kind of our main triage site we were trying to
help out with and we decide, hey, if we leave
the rescue summer on scene, we'll have more space in
our Dolphin MH sixty five. So based on that, I
got on scene boots on the ground Cam't Mystic kind
of discovered I was the only person there as far
as like first responders go. So yeah, I had about
two hundred kids, mostly all scared, terrified, cold, having probably

(36:52):
the worst day of their life, and I just kind
of need to triage them, get them to a higher
level care and get them, get them off the flight.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
What an incredible story, I mean, just an absolute hero.
Some others that are starting to come out today too.
I don't know if you heard this story, but this
young man, he was twenty seven, say, his entire family,
but he perished himself. Is he cut himself in the
in the middle of it.

Speaker 10 (37:15):
Was at his house and the house got flooded. So
in order to save his family, he broke a window
to get him out, and while he was doing that,
he cut off an artery and his arm. He got
his family to safety, but unfortunately he bled to death.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
It just started pouring in and we had to bite
the door to get it closed.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
He had lost all of it, all all his blood.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
He looked at me and the kids and my mother
in law and he's sorry, I'm not going to make it.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
I love y'all.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
Just absolute tragic stories, but some real bright moments of
heroes shining through. In the meantime. Well, we got an
after show. The Fastest Tower of Radio is done, but
the after show is on the way Limback program coming
