Speaker 1 (00:00):
First, a little bit of good news before we get on.
And they're attempting something against the world's largest cake walk,
and Scott Vogel, good friend down from nothing but Ketch
joins us right now to talk about this big event
happening the week. They need your help and you may
have a sweet time, a lot of fun. Scott, welcome in.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Man, what a great lead in on a Friday, the
sun's out. This is just a fun conversation. Thanks for
having us on.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Absolutely, Matt, so tell us a little bit about this.
And first of all, what is a cake walk? Because
you know, I kind of remember some of this as
a kid, you know, getting but it's been a long time.
You guys want to set a world record here the
largest cakewalk. It's free, it's family fun and if you're
looking to be a part of this tomorrow, folks can participate.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
You got it. Here's the deal. You don't even have
to stretch or do anything special to be able to participate. Basically,
what's gonna happen is you show up, and when you
show up, it's at the Special Olympics train facility on
sixty eighth Street, which is the old South Christian High
School for those of who have local roots to remember that.

(01:10):
But the music will play, you'll be given a number,
and when the music stops, you a numbers can be
called out and you can win one of ten big prizes.
But here's the deal with our cakewalk is everyone gets cake.
I'm gonna bring free vouchers for these these buntlet sized
cakes so that you can come to one of our
three bakeries and for free. It's about six dollars value.

(01:34):
You can pick out any flavor you want to. Just
think everyone's gonna win. The other thing about this event
that's great is it's this family fun event that is
going to have bounce houses, there's going to be dance parties,
there's gonna be live music, and right now things are
costing a lot of money. Something free is kind of fun.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
That is is that kind of fun. That's really that's
really fun. A lot of parents, if you like me, Okay,
we got two and a four year old, You're always
looking for ways to like wear them out, and this
would be a great way to do that.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Actually, well, and we've partnered like we have in the past,
and that you're going to hear a little bit of
my competitive spirit. Come out here, but we partner with
Consumers Credit Union and we we put a spotlight on
amazing nonprofits when we do this event. So yes, we
want to set a world record, but we love this opportunity.

(02:29):
The shines spotlight on the special Olympics and also the
being a nice group and just elevate them and their cause,
and we're going to raise about five to ten thousand
dollars for them. The other thing is is we've done
this cakewalk in the past in West Michigan. We get
we had the world record in twenty seventeen, we beat

(02:50):
our world record in twenty eighteen, and then there's this
group out in Minnesota in twenty twenty two who decided
to beat us. And I know West Michigan you can
always punches well above its weight class. We need to
bring this world record back home here to the West Michigan.
But I need your help out there to make this happen.
There's no downside for you to participate. You get free cake,

(03:13):
you can win big prizes, and you get to have
a lot of fun and there's no cost to do it.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
I love that there is a little bit of a
competitive nature. It sounds like in this too we got
to bring the bring the title back home. But as
you mentioned, ghost towards a good cause, special Olympics being
ie and of course bring the kids out have a
little fun. And and Joe, where's where can folks find
out more? Obviously, uh, we stop into the stores you
got to you got well, you got three now, don't you, Scott?

(03:41):
Three different stores? Tell us about those two? And then
and where can folks find out more? If they want
to get all of the info online, We'll make sure
that we post.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
A link to well. The good thing is you can
you can ask any of your search engines. You go
cake walk Grand Rapids, you're going to be directed to
information about this event. But in an area you can
even pre register at consumers see you dot org and
it will give you all the information you need, or
you just put into a search and it starts at

(04:13):
ten am. We're gonna start walking about eleven to eleven thirty.
But there's gonna be so much fun that you're just
we're going to entertain you as we lead up to
the event. And then for us, we've been very blessed.
We're we're a small business. My wife and I have
been you know, we we very fortunate that the community
supported us. And yes, we've been able to open three locations.

(04:35):
We have one in Grand Rapids off of I ninety six,
one in Grandville for those who know where that Cabela's is,
and we were able to go to the Lake Shore
and open up in Muskegan. But we've been doing it
for eight years and we just we like to say
we do one thing and one thing well or else
we have never made it this far. But the reality

(04:55):
is it's this great community and that's why we want
to lean in with Consumer Credit Union and just create
a fun and festive atmosphere. And then, you know what,
We've been very blessed in this community. So we want
to put a spotlight on amazing organations like Special Olympics
and be nice. And it's like the saying goes high

(05:17):
tide raises all boats. So we just we're grateful to
the Wood Radio team as well, who have been with
us for eight years in our crazy journey in this
cake world, and just we're we're grateful.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Well, it's the it's the icing on the cake, my friend.
Thank you Scott so much. Scott Fogel. Nothing but cakes
and the worlds are just cake walk this week and
we appreciate you brother. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Hey everyone, have a great weekend.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Thanks Justin, you two and God bless folks.
