Speaker 1 (00:00):
First, let's talk to Repcara, who is in I believe,
the chair of this committee that held the hearings yesterday.
Green Charter Township residents testifying against the CCP Goshen plant
during oversight hearing. That's a headline from the Midwestern A
Residents opposing the facility, denied opportunities to speak at township
meetings and humiliated online. They've gone through you know what

(00:21):
to get here, but it hasn't stopped them in their fight.
Owner of Majestic Freess Horse Farm, Lori Brock, testifying amongst
others there and local farm owner, one of the first
in that group, describing what she calls a dismissive and
hostile environment fostered by township officials in favor of the project.

(00:43):
Local officials told us in the first meeting that Goshen
was a done deal, she said. Rep. Steve Karra joins us. Now,
we appreciate you being here with us this morning. Rep.
How are you been well?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Justin Thanks for having me on.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Fantastic You know, it is interesting because I think what
people miss in this fight and how nasty that it
got by the way Whitmer pushed this. If you remember
back the big announcement came during her campaign in twenty two,
push this big story, pushed the big deal. It was
it was really about jobs for her. That's what she
was saying, bringing jobs to this area. But what we

(01:18):
really find out is through this process and testimony in
the House, he has to may maybe you share some
of this too, But what we really find out if
these people in this little township and in Macosta County
were harassed by folks from this company as well as others,
and a lot of that was funded, bought and paid
for with their very own taxpayer dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Absolutely, that's exactly right, using the people's tax dollars against themselves.
The people in the big rapid area didn't want this,
It was abundantly clear. Yet Gretchen Whitmer and others want
to compel tax players to give these big handouts to
big corporations for special deals. In this case with ty
is Communist Party big problems.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
What are some of the things that maybe surprise you
the most rappers some of the things that were the
most egregious about what came out and some of the
testimony or things that you've learned about this whole situation.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Lurie Brocklick. You mentioned, she's the owner of Majestic Freezings,
a horse farm up there, and of course they were
trying to take over her farm and they're causing her
all kinds of problems, and they threats and all that
kind of stuff to the locals. Like you said, Well,
with Lourie, she had a threat on the livelihood of
her horses, and then just three days later, one of

(02:38):
her crown mayors, a fifteen year old debt three days
after the threat, found poison in the water. This, you know,
these types of things were happening up there. It sounds
completely shocking, but it's that I'm Dard came up with
complaints with Lori's farms. She's never had a problem before.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, that's that. That's important.
That's a very good one. Don't let's not gloss over that. Yeah,
she she was actually she actually had to face complaints
and there were state agencies that were involved in this.
Can you explain that story because this I almost had forgotten.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
About that, right, Yeah, So she's never had any problems
with m dark before this, and then they came out
and you know, were saying that she had a blight issues,
but her farm from people around there, if you've seen it,
it's absolutely beautiful. It's well, it's they come up with these, uh,

(03:40):
these plaints and concerns and and just weaponizing government against
these locals for speaking out, these intimidation type of efforts
and uh and then and then her horse comes up
that three days later after a threat. It's very concerning
issues and uh consider sent with the tactics and pressure

(04:03):
that will put on these people in the community. And
these people didn't want it. They're imposing this with taxers
always an the state on a community that didn't want
it themselves. And justin myself and Representative Joe Fox and
Representative Neil Frisky went and talked with Jim Chapman, the
former township supervisor, and he said that there was a
silent majority who was supportive of Goshen coming to the town. Well,

(04:27):
we went out wee door knocked and we found thirty
people opposed and six in support. And the two hours
we went out door knocking, there was not a silent
majority and support of Goshen from their community. They were
passionately opposed and they didn't do surveys on this. They
just made the claim. Surveys were done by the activists

(04:49):
there and consistently showing eighty to ninety percent community was
opposed to Gosh.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
And that's interesting. We talk about those surveys and the
solent majority. The Congressman Molinar got involved too and did
a survey himself in his office rather and they found
very similarly that this was a very very unpopular scenario. Okay,
So Jason Cruz, who is the township supervisor, and by
the way, they had election, the people spoke in this

(05:17):
whole deal as well, I mean the will of people.
We're here on quite a bit about democracy and how
we ought to protect that, etc. So they voted on this.
There was a recall of the board new folks and
stated they've been through quite a bit as well. Jason
Cruse talm about during the first two months of our
administrations after we were elected, we were unable to access
the township accounting software, the phones operated radically, and the

(05:39):
internet was inconsistent. I mean, they faced all kinds of opposition.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yes, yes they did. And he worked at Parrish State
and so yeah, Jim Chaman was the former township supervisor,
but now Jason Cruz one after they recalled all the
old boards, So that was great testament from the community
there as well. But I found out from talking with
Dayson apparently they're known for having a good automotive department

(06:08):
there at Farris State, and Farris State is seemingly some
of the leadership there were very involved and seemingly knew
about Goshen coming to town before the locals would have
found out. In September twenty twenty two and they got
a grant to shift their automotive department focus towards electric
vehicle battery plants. Getting a grant, I believe it was

(06:32):
three million dollars before anybody knew, a year or two
before Goshen was starting to come into a conversation. So
there were some ties there too that I found it
to be interesting.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Well, we appreciate you holding those sharings. This is all
part of the oversight. More still, you hat to come
where can people reach out to you with maybe information
that they'd like for you to take a look at
or and support and just say hey, thank you for
doing what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Rep. Coral Yeah, well Repcara dot com is my website.
And then Steve Kara at House dot m I dot
dov is a email address, so anybody wants to reach
out that those are good ways to get a hold
of me and my office there. And we just need
to do what they did in Big rap Is thereon
continue to fight against these big corporate handouts and picking

(07:21):
winners and losers and schemes. We have another one with
Marshall Megasite that we'll eventually get into here in a
few weeks, but we'll we'll focus on a little bit
more on ghost and next week as well. And these
types of problems programs need to come to an end.
And this is Gretchen Whitmer loves these types of things.
But fortunately we have a Republican control in the House

(07:43):
and it looks like we're starting to temper some of
these bad crony investments.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Well, thank you for keeping an eye on this and
thank you for including Marshall on that fight as well.
They need all the help they can get as well. Rep.
Steve Kara, always a pleasure, my friend.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Thank you, Yeah, thank you. Justin
