Speaker 1 (00:00):
Today is a primary day. We've got several folks throughout
the state voting on various different issues. Milages on the
ballot as well. Carlo, good morning. I know this is
near and dear to your heart and the folks that
acts my tax who are busy dealing with trying to
get rid of those property taxes. Welcome in. We appreciate
you taking the time to be here with us today.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hi Justin, once again, thank you so much for having me.
I always appreciate the opportunity to come on your show
and talk about property tax elimination. It's what Michigan needs
to move forward.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
So let's talk about that coming up. Parents say, but first,
today is another day. Folks may not even know they
have an opportunity to vote today and vote for or
against whatever it is that's on the ballot. But this
is kind of how they sort of sneak in some
of the more egregious taxes that we pay every year.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, you're absolutely right, And you know what, it's kind
of a sneak attack. And I think we've had elections
in February May, now it's August, and they keep doing
these you know millages, you know, elections for millages and
things like that. People don't know about them. They are
not on people's radar. There's not a lot of information
(01:18):
put out about them. It really it really leaves it
kind of up to the people to, you know, to
be able to know to go to your county website
or your township website to see if there's going to
be a millage. But most people are kind of on
suspecting and don't do that. So we need what one
of our messaging is everyone should ask for an absentee
(01:40):
automatic absentee ballot, because then you will be made aware
three to four weeks before the election that there is
an election coming up. Then you can research what on
there and hopefully you'll decide to vote no on all
villages and bond proposals. Because if we want to keep
our property available, I mean affordable, if we want to
be able to afford our property to be able to
(02:02):
live on it, we have to make our property taxes
more affordable until we can eliminate them. The only way
we can do that is by voting down millages and
bond proposals. And the other side to that is it
forces those entities that are getting our money to find
a different revenue sources property tax.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Thanks y tax is looking to get on the ballot
here in twenty six. I know you're working hard collecting
signatures right now. Probably still need some people to get
out there and circulate. How you guys doing so far?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
We are, You know what, it's amazing the number of
petitions and signatures that are coming in. It's truly, it's
truly amazing for a grassroots effort to be able to
do this. We don't have any paid circulators. We're not
paying people to circulate for us. This is up to
the people of the state of Michigan. And yes, we
you know what, the more the merrier, the more we
(02:58):
get new people signing up every day to help us circulate.
But we could use more. We we we just want
as many as possible because we're not only asking them
to sign the petition, but we're educating them because we
will need them to vote later on, and we want
them to also spread the word. That's how that's how
(03:19):
it happens with grassroots. It's word of mouth. You don't
have the money to do any like statewide exposure, you know,
we certainly don't can't afford to do mailers and all
that other kind of stuff. It's social media and word
of mouth. That's how we spread the word about this.
This is how we save people's homes, farms, and businesses.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
