Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, so let's get down to it, break down
(00:02):
the biggest stories of the day and beyond. Our good
friend Kyle Olsen, the Midwestern and Midwesterner Dot News. Welcome in, Kyle, big,
huge congratulations for you and your work in putting this
Ghoshen plant down. The folks there in Macosta County elected officials.
We'll hear from Congressman John Mollinar a little bit later
on today who is part of the Lori brock on
(00:23):
the line a little bit later on as well. But first,
I don't think we can really it's kind of hard
to put into perspective how big this story was. I
remember Tutor Dixon mentioning it during her campaign in twenty
twenty two, and then from there it just kind of grew.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, yeah, she was the first one, and I will
never forget I was helping with her campaign, and I
will never forget being in the car we were driving
somewhere and this was announced, this plant was announced, and
I went, what is Goshen? And I googled Goshen and
their website came up and it was all in Chinese,
(01:01):
and I went, what is going on here? So then
she she made a video that night and said this
is you know, connected to the CCP, and it's it's
all very concerning, and that was sort of the beginning.
And she was the only one. There were Republicans in
the legislature, high level Republicans who were telling her, don't
(01:23):
talk about this, stand down, we need the jobs, you know,
all of that rhetoric. And then and then the Midwesterner
got involved in twenty twenty three and we revealed, you know,
the connections, very clear connections to the CCP, and and
it just you know, went from there. But I'll say,
(01:44):
if the local residents were not unified in fighting this,
there would have been nothing to cover. There would have
been nothing to amplify, nothing to bring to national media
to make this the national story. And so the fact
that the local residents were unified in defending their community
(02:07):
was was what sealed the deal to me.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah, it's incredible what they did there. There was a
there was a township board that approved all this, supposedly
Republicans at the time. Lots of the things that came out,
their involvement in it, how far and how corrupted, kind
of not, was very much in question. And uh, and
then those those folks that you just talked about boy,
(02:32):
they overthrew that board.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
They ran a recall and ran them all out on
a rail.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
It was such a such a disruption to a community
of you know, just a couple thousand people. And and
it started because Dretchen Whitmer, because of Chuck Balen, because
of Jim Chapman. And it was this attitude. You take
(02:58):
Jim Chapman in particular, who was that the township supervisor
at the time. He thought he knew best, and he
thought he could sign a non disclosure agreement and he
could make deals with a CCP company and Gretchen Whitmer,
and he didn't have to tell his local citizens about
(03:19):
what was going on. And it was this attitude that
government knew best, and we're going to we're going to
be the saviors and we're going to deliver jobs. That
was Chuck Dalen's attitude. I am doing this for the
for the community, and they should appreciate it. They were
so arrogant, they were so condescending, and that in it
(03:43):
that just it just made people more mad. And I think,
you know a lot of these I think these sorts
of projects, I mean, set this one aside. A lot
of these sorts of projects. If there is transparency, if
there is a community dialogue about the benefits or the
drawbacks or whatever, I think these sorts of projects can
(04:04):
end up very differently. But when you have elected officials
who are operating in secrecy, they feel like they don't
have to tell their residents about what's going on, these
sorts of things happen.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
China, Chuck is out of luck. That's so.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
That's one of the quotes from the chat right now.
And our good friend Heather dw who is a big
part of it. Ron Armstrong in the chat too. Boys,
a lot of folks that came together to make this possible,
and it's going to be impossible to name all those names,
but we'll talk to Lori Brock coming up here, whose
horse farmers right across the street from where they wanted
to put this will give her an opportunity to speak
out as well. And also Congressman Molinarn. Maybe anybody that's
(04:46):
listening today that that had a hand, you want you
want to weigh in, would love to hear from me
on the phones.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
It sometimes yeah, during it.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
And think about think about you talk about Lori, think
about how all of this have played out. Yes, there
was the recalls, and I mean and that was that
was monumental. But she hosted Jade Vans on her arm
right across the street from where they wanted this to happen.
(05:15):
President Trump called out Goshen by name, called out the
project by name, and and criticized it. So this it
it was, it went from it went from a story
of you know, a township of a few thousand people
to this national story. And it was a focal point
(05:35):
of the CCP trying to intervene in America government wasting
our taxpayer dollars on this EV scam, so many things
and uh and so to see this happen finally finally
officially fall apart yesterday was a good day.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Well, you're all was huge, and I know there are
lots of other things that are happening in the state
is well.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Uh, but Kyle, we'll just have to have you back
for that a little bit later.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Because this is this is I just want to give
this the do it deserves because folks, I want you
to know that this is how you win. This is
this is a blueprint. It's the master plan for how
you win and take your country back and in fact,
your your city, your town, your township, whatever it might be,
(06:24):
your county, this is how.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
You do it.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
The people in Macosta County Green Charter Township, and they,
by the way, got an assist from a lot of
folks throughout the state who said, yeah, we're not gonna
We're not gonna roll over and allow.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
This to happen. It'd be a different story today if
they hadn't.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
And uh boy, they deserve a pat on the back,
and of course you all do too at the Midwesterner
for helping out what an amazing.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
This isn't over. This isn't over because the legislature now
has got to hold Gretcha Whitmer and the MEDC agreeable.
Absolutely so we're publishing a story today about what legislators
are saying about it. But where is the accountability. We
need to see accountabilit I agree.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I want to see all of these folks investigated, every
single one of them that had a hand in this.
We had a no rock, no stone ought to be unturned.
We got to look in underneath the filthy, grimy underbelly
of it all and make sure that we get all
the answers and hold these folks, There's no reason this
should ever ever happen again, but we've got to follow through.
Always a pleasure, Kyle Kyle Olsen, the Midwestern or the
