Speaker 1 (00:00):
She's in Michigan receiving communion from Gretchen Whitmer. Oh that's
not a pretty sight. Oh no, it's not. Well. That
story in the list amongst others this week. Lots to
catch up on a good friend, Kyle Olsen from the
(00:21):
Midwestern to the Midwestern Dot News, the founder joining us now, Kyle,
good morning, appreciate you taking the time to be here
with us.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Happy to good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
So let's start with Dorito Gate got a shout out
last night at the Al Smith dinner. What a what
a wild story this was and particularly offensive. I think
a lot of folks here in the state, not just
Christians Catholics, but I just think reasonable people who watch
(00:55):
this stuff over and over again, especially as people are
hurting in the state. We got a governor who doesn't
really want to fix the roads, like she said when
she ran, she really wants to make TikTok videos. Let's
be honest, that's it.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah. It was amazing to see Gretchen Whitmer as a
national punchline last night, and to see that room laughing
at her. And you could tell by the looks on
the faces of the people up in the front that
they knew what Trump was talking about, and so that
what Gretchen Whitmer did in that video, there's a lot
(01:32):
of people are upset about. But to me and it is,
you know, it's it's incredible that she would be that
blinded by her ideology and her pursuit of social media
fame that she would produce something like that. But to me,
that's that's really the issue here, is that she is
so focused on social media engagement, and not just not
(01:56):
social media engagement from people in Michigan, but but people
from around the country and around the world, that she's
spending her time doing those kinds of videos. She was
in Wisconsin, she was in Wisconsin earlier this week, and
she's not she's not tending to home. And so what
(02:18):
does that mean, Well, look at the issue that is
brewing right now. Stilantis Chrysler is on the brink of
leaving the state of Michigan. That is, it's devastating for
michigan Anders, but it sends a very bad message to
the rest of the country that Michigan is not open
(02:39):
for business. And so instead of actually figuring out what
businesses need, how do we attract businesses to Michigan, How
do we keep them in Michigan. Gretchen Whitmer is running
around the country campaigning for Kamala Harris, and she's putting
out these sorts of videos that do nothing to improve
the state of Michigan.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, that's that's probably the best way to put it
right now, especially at the time that we're in and
you got people it's Stilantis who you know, Charlie Leduff
did a great piece on this for News Nation the
other day and play some of this maybe a little
bit later on. But he goes and he talks to
these people, I'll call him forgotten people. These are the
(03:22):
forgotten folks here in Michigan, the autoworkers who just been
pushed it aside, like their lives don't matter. You said
to wonder how much and I think he talks about
this a bit, but how much well that plays in
a state like Michigan in this election, particularly as you
have President Trump coming back from a manufacturing roundtable today
(03:42):
and then a vary He's going to be at a
big rally tonight at at the Hunting Place where they
where they were originally what the TCF is, where it
was what it was called in twenty twenty when they
had the pizza boxes up on the windows. But he'll
be here talking about that and and specifically addressing the
(04:02):
concerns of the forgotten.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Yeah, it is what is happening with the auto companies,
both in terms of global competition, and Trump has been
talking directly about that and saying We're not going to
allow China to build plants in Mexico and then bring
those cars into America. And he's also talking about the
(04:27):
EV mandate and what a disaster that is for Michiganders,
both in terms of consumers but also auto workers. And
you've got outlets like the Detroit News. I mean, they
are going to the wall for evs, for Chinese companies
like Goshen, and for federal money coming into the state
(04:48):
of Michigan. And so but Trump is saying, look at
what this is going to do to your state. Whether
it's the foreign competition or it's the EV man dates,
and it's it's mandates that consumers don't want. This is
going to have a devastating effect on Michigan, both for
consumers and auto workers. Trump is the only one talking
(05:11):
about that and and it's and I think that is
what is resonating, because yes, the Charlie's Peace, you know,
he he focuses a lot on on normal people, average
people that are at the bottom of the hill. So
as you've got the the the executives and the corporate
elites making all of these these bad decisions and it's
(05:36):
all rolling downhill. If you know what I'm saying, it's
it is not this. This does not end well for
normal people in the state of Michigan.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, And uh boy, that's that's that's that's that's the same,
especially especially at a time like this where everything is
already such a problem on you know, the economy we
talk about, you know how bad things there are with
the inflation and everything else. You imagine being in this
position right now. It's heartbreaking. I want to talk about
(06:10):
something else that I find very very offensive. And you know,
you and I talked a little bit about this in
the past. We've discussed this very issue. But here is
the latest. The numbers are out. Michigan voter rolls inflated
by And I don't think this is a great headline either,
because I don't think this really gives you the perspective
(06:30):
on what's really going on here. Michigan voter rolls inflated
by five hundred thousand states says it's no issue. GOP disagrees.
That's from the bridge. But let me give you the
I think bearing the lead here. There are eight point
four million register of voters in the state of Mission
according to our voter rolls, nearly half a million more
(06:51):
and the eligible voting population, so there are more people
on the voter rolls than people in the state by
half a million. And we've been told ever since twenty
twenty that don't even ask any questions whatever you say.
You're a wacky tenfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist if you
even ask a question about this type of thing. But
(07:14):
in my book, just like a couple other stories we
have this week, or we have Benson giving money over
to Supreme Court justices who then rule in her favor
and write the majority opinion eighty thousand dollars. We'll talk
about that here in a little bit too. But there
should never be even an appearance of impropriety in any
(07:34):
of these situations. And Benson and the folks of the Democrats, Whitner,
the rest of them, so they've left the door wide
open on this and it stinks to the high heavens,
and it is disgusting because the American people and folks
here in Michigan, your vote should count and when there's
ever any issue like this, it ought to be cleaned
(07:55):
up and cleaned up immediately. And these people have no
time for this.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Right. And so The Midwesterner reported yesterday that State Senator
Ruth Johnson, who is a former Secretary of State and
knows how elections work, knows how customer service works when
you're trying to renew your license or get a license
plate or a title or anything else, she has filed
(08:22):
a bar complaint with the State Bar of Michigan saying
that Joscelyn Benson, who is an attorney, that's the significance
of this. Joscelyn Benson is an attorney with the licensed
by the bar. She has repeatedly her abused her office
for political reasons. And what the complaint states is that
(08:48):
she fought Joscelyn Benson fought like mad to keep Robert
Kennedy on the ballot when there were other candidates who
wanted to be on the ballot, and she prevented them
from being on the ballot. And what is so stunning
to me, is that, again, Jocelyn Benson is an attorney,
(09:09):
and she's not just an attorney. She was the she
was the dean of the Wayne State Law School. So
she's like the principle of attorneys. And she has had
multiple she now has finally had a bar complaint filed
against her, and she has been overturned multiple times by
(09:30):
the Michigan Supreme Court, by the Court of Claims, by
a Court of Appeals. Numerous courts have said she is
not following the law and she's breaking the law, and
she needs to change her ways. And so it's going
to be very interesting to see how this bar complaint proceeds.
(09:50):
We're going to be following it very closely. But when
it comes to the voter rules, one of the complaints
here has been there are people who have moved out
of the state of Michigan, know that they've moved out
of the state of Michigan. There are people who have died,
we know they have died, and yet she drags her
feet to clean up the voter rules. And of course,
the logical question is why would she do that? Why
(10:14):
would she keep people we know no longer live in
the State of Michigan, or are dead, why would she
keep them on the voter rule And a lot of
sensible people say, well, it's because they know who those
people are, and they will chase their ballots and they
will make sure that they vote absentee because obviously they
(10:35):
can't early vote, because a human being has to show
up to early vote. And that really gets to sort
of the crux of the concerns about absentee ballots is
that if you've got a half a million people, and see,
the thing is is we know who those half a
million people are. We know their names, their addresses, probably
how they voted in the past, at least in primaries,
(10:57):
and so the Democrats can chase those ballots, and that
is the ultimate concern, and she drags her feet to
clean up the voter rolls.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
It's sick, it's disgusting, its corruption and all of this
it's to me, I believe there's even another word for it,
but this is a kind of These are problems when
you've got a secretary of State who's completely off the rails,
a governor does the same thing, and then you've got
an attorney general and they're all three working in concert
(11:29):
together who's going to hold them accountable. That's why this
election probably matters more than ever. Trump headed back here today,
going to be making a pitch again for folks, not
just the autoworkers, but everyone here in the state to
get out in record numbers. And he's been he's been
leading in the polls. These swing state polls are looking good.
We got about two and a half weeks left. Anything
(11:51):
else you think we ought to mention today as we
as the clock continues to.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Tick down here, Well, you mentioned in anssle and that's
a very good point, because whether it's these issues we
talked about today or other issues, she just sits on
her hands and does nothing. But yet there's a there
was when there was a congressional candidate who mits miss
Prince the the election date in it in a newspaper advertisement.
(12:22):
She literally sends him a cease and desist letter. So
she's very quick to respond to election advertisements, but she's
very slow to answer to what is going on with
the voter roles. What about these these alleged abuses of
power by the state secretary of State. She doesn't, She
(12:43):
is totally silent on that. So she's out campaigning with
Letitia James for Kamala Harris against Donald Trump. She's talking
about how Donald Trump is a threat to democracy and
and you know, and she spreads misinformation about his position
on abortion and all of that, and yet she will
not make sure Jocelyn Benson and Gretchen Whitmer are following
(13:07):
election law.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Kyle Olson, always a pleasure. The fight continues. One of
the biggest things we could do is make sure that
we share these stories, spread it so people are aware,
they know what's going on, and they stay up to
the date with everything and they can be more informed.
I think that way be in forumed be engaged is
the only way we could take the state back and
the country right along with it. Get more. Obviously, the
(13:32):
Midwesterner dot news don't just bookmarket. You should do that too.
Make sure you put on your email so that you
could stay up today and get those updates as they
come out. Kyle, thank you for all the hard work
you guys do. Always a pleasure.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Thank you.
