Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barklay on Wood Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Welcome in man on it. What a weekend. I hope
you're well rested and ready to go, because we are
going to We're kicking off a big week, a lot
going on. We're gonna make sure that you're up to
date with it all. Thanks you missed over the weekend
and what we expect that are planning for this week,
so stand by for the latest. We'll have that coming

(00:27):
up this morning. You guests that'll join us jumping in
on the conversation all the way from Lancing to d
See and right back in your own backyard here at home.
All of the stories that matter most and here we go.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Use weather and traffic, I'm his stories of the day.
We are talking about what matters most in West Michigan
and beyond. This is the Big Three. Now say speak.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Three the stories that matter most you be talking about
around the water, cool dinner, Timble novetter where you are
powered by our good friends at Heartland Home Mortgage, Dave
Getaway and the team ready to take care of you
whether you want to buy refi, home equity, line of credit,
even reverse mortgage for some folks. That makes sense. But
next year, no matter what you do, you're asking these questions,

(01:17):
you want to have conversations with the pros Heartland Home
Mortgage Dave and the team standing by to help you
make sure that you're taking care of we say thousands,
so many other folks who listen to this program have
as well. HHM linding dot com one. Yeah, the stories
that matter most. Again, it's weak true week to the
officer chure trial resuming. He took the stand Friday. Jury

(01:41):
deliberations could start as early as this week. You've got
to still get through a little bit more of I
think the defense here, and then we'll have closing statements
and that could be a whole day or more. Who knows.
This trial has been kind of interesting. It's felt like
it's moved quite a bit along, well least anyway, but
they've had some late days too. Some of the audio

(02:04):
we have come up in a little bit on the program.
You're gonna hear from the use of force experts, officer
sure himself examined, cross examined by the prosecution in a
little bit of a well, it is a little bit
of a tense time connect Trump ordering the reopening of
the notorious Alcatraz present. Now you may think this is

(02:28):
just a joke, but he is serious. And I don't
know if you've ever noticed. Over the weekend, that's when
we get these stories, these stories that you over because
then it gets people talk. He knows how to get
those Sunday shows just fired up. And that's exactly what
he's doing. And taken a page out of that playbook,

(02:49):
he says, most importantly, people need to understand the serious nature.
Judges won't allow him to deport some of these serious criminals,
and he said, we make sure we got a place
to keep them here, taking them off the streets. By
the way, that's what you voted for, what I voted for.
Here's a story that I don't think you'll hear on

(03:10):
the nightly news. Antarctica is gaining ice. Now if you do,
you're gonna hear it. Well, it's probably Trump's fault, your
fault because you're driving SUV or whatever it might be.
What are those somewhere along those lines, right, But no,
it's interesting story that broke over the weekend. Annonoka gaining

(03:31):
ice for the first time in decades, reversing the trend
of mass loss a new study. Finding the details of this.
We'll dig through a little bit later on this week
in a podcast episode where our good friend Steve Gorum,
who goes through all of the climate hysteria, breaks it down,
tells you what's what, whether it's real or fake news.

(03:56):
Stand by for that should be a good one. As
I mentioned, conversations blow and right through and man, oh man,
we've got so many going on today. Gotta take a
quick break. I'll come back, and I believe we got
repped Brian Posthumus with us today. We get news on

(04:17):
his end. We're gonna get into that coming up this morning,
and you can join the program at any time six one, six, seven, seven,
twenty four, twenty four as we dig in and get
ready for a big day of news as you as
you get ready for it with us, we'll break it down,
also give you any bits and details from the trial officer.

(04:38):
Sure's pot. You know, we get a big week, so
I'm gonna look at some of the stories to get
the papal conclave set to begin this week. Oh yeah,
I got a couple of big stories from this weekend,
the derby. I gotta get into it more. Did you
watch it what a fantastic finish, prophetic almost we'll talk
about that special moment.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Now, f Y.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
I like literally it's West Michigan Live with Justin Barclay
on news Radio Wood thirteen hundred and one oh six
nine a f M.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
Cerior headlines from the Midwestern or this Monday, May fifth,
I'm Robin Hoffman. It's a Midwesterner Dot News original story.
Her go Green agenda is never ending here in Michigan.
Democrat Governor Whitmer's Department of Natural Resources now looking at
another thousand acres of state forests to cut down trees
to make room for a solar power plant. This part

(05:27):
of Whitmer's goal to force her climate change agenda of
one hundred percent clean energy by twenty forty. President Trump
says it's a matter of law and order. He's looking
at reopening Alcatraz in San Francisco to house some of
the worst of the worst criminals here in our country.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
It's a temple of law and order, and uh, it's
got quite a history, correctly, so I think we're going
to do that, and we're looking.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
At it right now.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
And Catholics looking ahead.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Now that the nine day morning period over for Pope Francis.
This Wednesday, one hundred cardinals from around the world will
be in to vote on the next Pope. The ballots
will then be burned. For these stories and more, visit
the Midwesterner at the Midwesterner.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Dot news and Trump talking about Alcatraz, asking about this.
This is a serious idea. I mean, I don't know
the media is going to have a field day with it,
but I think that's part of the intention.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
Where did you get the idea for reopening Alpha tras
just an idea I've had, and I guess because the
judge is so many of these radicalized judges, they want
to have trials for every single thing of it, every
single person that's in our country.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Illegally they came in illegally.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
That would mean millions of trials. And it's just so
ridiculous what's happening. And it's long been a symbol Alcatraz
of whatever it is. I mean, you know, it's a
sad symbol, but it's a it's a symbol of law
and order, and you know, it's got quite a history.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Frankly, so I think.

Speaker 6 (06:55):
We're going to do that, and we're looking at it
right now.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
That's that's big. I mean, top of the news. Of course,
folks have been talking about that all day long. Just
just a bit of a behind the curtain for you.
It's and also you know, look it's it's I do
think it's again. It's a great way to kind of
put a sort of a face and a bit of
an image to what they're trying to do when it

(07:18):
comes to, you know, taking care of some of the
criminal element. We're storing on order in the country. It's
a big deal. Reb Brian Possumus joining us now on
the liveline. We appreciate you being here, taking the time
to be here with us today. Welcome in, Good morning sir.

Speaker 7 (07:32):
Always a pleasure to be on. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
So let's get the update. I hear you have some
big breaking news to talk about.

Speaker 7 (07:40):
Well, yeah, I mean we last week we put up
for vote our House Point Resolution BE, which would amend
the Michigan Constitution requiring that only US citizens vote in
our elections by requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote,
photo ID when cast your ballot. Fortunately, it requires a

(08:01):
two thirds vote in the House and we couldn't get
the Democrats to join on the on a party line vote.
They decided that they were okay with foreign nationals voting
in our election.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Imagine that. Imagine that now, So you know what's funny
is this? This is this is a billy And I
believe was it was so common sense that most people
when they heard about it, they said, wait a minute,
you mean this isn't already a thing? Right, So you know,
you get into this, you get the vote, which I
think is fantastic because now you got everybody on the record.

(08:36):
Of course I'd like to say I'd like to see
this thing go through. Of course they would, but explain
to me the threshold that was needed, and of course
it was it was a party line outcome, and and
obviously that that wasn't going to work out. Explain that
to folks.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (08:51):
So in Michigan, there are three ways to amend the Constitution.
One is a cost convention. Number two is through legislative
action to put it on the ballot, which is what
we tried to do. In order for the legislature to
put a question on the ballot to amend the constitution,
it requires a two thirds vote in the House and

(09:13):
a two thirds vote in the Senate. Then it skips
the governor goes right on the ballot in the general election,
and so you know it has a higher because we're
amending the constitution, it has that higher threshold. It turned
out to be a party line vote, which it floors
me considering nearly eighty five percent of the population agrees

(09:35):
with this policy. And so here we are now. I
will say I am committed one way or the other
to make sure that this ends up on the ballot
in November of twenty twenty six. That's why we launched
our petition drive, which is the third way to amend
the constitution, to get it on the ballot. That way,
it's prove it Michigan dot com.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
All right, that's important because I don't want people to say,
go bad news. Here we go again another uh, you know,
another one of these moments where we're just kind of stalled.
That's that's that's not the case. So proven Michigan dot com.
And when they go there, obviously you're gonna get details.
I'm sure you know. How do you sign this thing?

(10:18):
How can you help? Maybe volunteer? You need probably a
little help and maybe maybe a little money as well.
If folks would like to contribute. There are a couple
of different ways to do that.

Speaker 7 (10:29):
I'm sure, absolutely So this is a huge undertaking. We
need to collect about six hundred and fifty thousand signatures
in a six month period of time, and I need
to I need to raise about eight million dollars to
make this happen. So I've been traveling all over the state. Tonight,
I'm in Wayne County. Last week I was in Macomb,
I was in Oakland, I was in Lapierre. I was everywhere,

(10:51):
uh and trying to build a a an army of
volunteers in every corner of the state. And so what
I really need people to do is go to that website,
sign up to volunteer, prove it Michigan dot com. Sign
up to volunteer, and we'll update you as soon as
we have the petitions ready for circulation. My expectation is

(11:12):
sometime this month they will be out and ready to
go to gallect signatures.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
All right, that's fantastic. People. Let me ask you, Brian,
how big is this? Obviously this has been top of
the I think pretty much stream a consciousness for folks,
you know, the last several years specifically, But how big
is this for the next you know? Not just this this,
this next cycle, but I mean beyond in the state

(11:38):
of Michigan, when it comes to actually taking the stake back.

Speaker 7 (11:42):
Well, I want this cycle. I think it's critically important.
I've always believed that good policy makes for good politics.
And when you have good policy heading into an election
where you are where our party is on the side
of eighty five percent of the population and the Democrats
are on the wrong side of the issue, that makes

(12:04):
for a really, really good election cycle for us. So
it's critical that we get it on the ballot. But
then then long term, this is really a structural reform
that will help secure our elections even further to make
sure that down the road for every election to come,
we can trust our elections.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It's so important people need to know. I mean, obviously
there isn't I don't think there's a level that that
that we'd like to see as far as trust and
the process and and a lot of that I can't
blame people for They've seen, you know, media do a
lot of things. They've seen government do a lot of things.
They've seen Democrats do a lot of things that they

(12:47):
just can't really square up. And this is this is
this step in the right direction to make sure that
you've got obviously a secretary so you don't have to
comment on this if you don't want to. But she
she has no problem bringing the law now she's running
for governor. Uh, but you've got to make sure that
these laws are they're intact. Then that we have you know,

(13:10):
all of the let's say, teeth right in in in
every bit of the process to make sure that this
stuff gets follow through with.

Speaker 7 (13:20):
I have no problem commenting on that. I mean, there
we have a we have a Secretary of State that
has the worst loss record in the history of our
state when it comes to the Supreme Court. What does
that tell you? That that tells you that she is
blatantly disregarding the law when it comes to our elections,
and she is the chief elections officer in the state

(13:41):
of Michigan. That she she has the worst record with
the Supreme Court. That that's a fact. That is that
is not hyperbole, that is a fact, and it's blatant
disregard for the rules and norms of our elections.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, it's time to time to get law and order
restored in the state and get back to truth, logic
and common sense and I appreciate you taking a step
to do that. Again, what's the website if people want
to go check that out and find out how they
can get informed and help out.

Speaker 7 (14:10):
Yeah, the website is prove it michigan dot com. Michigan
is all spelled out. Go there, sign up. We need
everybody's help.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
This is all hands on deck, fantastic. Anything else before
I let you go, anything else that you want to
make sure that we hit on, or maybe you have
coming down the pipeline folks need to know about.

Speaker 7 (14:29):
Well, you know, let me leave you with two things.
One want to I just want to reiterate that only
US citizens should be able to vote in our elections
and photo ID should be required when casting your ballot.
And then also I'm working on bringing cryptocurrency into Michigan,
making Michigan a state where cryptocurrency comes to stay. And

(14:53):
so we will be launching phase two of our cryptocurrency
platform over the next couple weeks and so be looking
out for that. I'm really excited about it.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
All right, Rap Posthumus, thank you so much for being
here with us today and the latest on this story.
Keep up the fight and kit definitely come back. Keep
us posted We appreciate you.

Speaker 7 (15:12):
All right, thanks lot man, I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
You got it. God bless here you go. Just another
Updateprovetmichigan dot com is the website if you want to
jump on and find out more. Give you all the
details you need there and get in the fight coming
up next. I got some more audio from last week's trial,

(15:35):
in fact, officer Christopher sure on the stand, the testimony
and the cross examination with him, and the of course
the prosecutor Chris Becker, which with a lot of folks
in some ways a little perplexed, a little taken back
with how am I allowed to say nasty? Is that

(15:57):
the word I'm looking for? How nasty had got at
certain points put something feeling terrible to me? You can
kill him right.

Speaker 8 (16:08):
No now, in terms of that you said, when it
comes down to the time to fire the shop, you
can't even say that, Patrick Poynetaser at your came.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
No.

Speaker 6 (16:22):
You know.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Chris made the comment though, I think, and you'll hear
some more of this coming up in a little bit.
But he made the comment, and I thought it was
really interesting, and I'm sure the jury was listening to
this too, that he was afraid he was in fear
for his life and in that moment, self defense seems
like if you're on that jury, you hear that, you
start to put the pieces together. Might be tough for

(16:44):
the prosecution to overcome some of that. We'll have to
wait and see. Only time will tell. We're back with
more after this. It's West Michigan. Lie, we got some
big breaking news this morning. Cover the latest in the
stories you want to hear anywhere else you know tomorrow, elect
they would talk quickly about those things that might be
on the ballot and what you need to know coming

(17:06):
up about nine forty five. But first, yeah, we have
the defense has now, as we've just learned, the defense
has rested in the trial there officers sure, and then
he took the stand on Friday. The defense has just rested.

(17:29):
This is some of the audio and video from Friday
and Prosecutor Chris Becker, Republican. Some folks and like I said,
I'm putting this lightly mildly for a lot of folks,
not too happy about some of the tactic in just
how off the rail some of this got. But again,

(17:51):
if he's the prosecutor and he's prosecuted, that's you could
expect Actually I watch the guy and this guy was brilliant,
and to see if we can get him on the air.
He said he thought the prosecutor didn't didn't he could
said it couldn't. Like if it was a few of
these other guys, the guy in the written House trial
and a few of these other said he would have

(18:11):
shredded this guy. He said, See, he felt like he
kind of went light. Now he's also been very this
guy that's been watching online self to lost self defense.
I think he said, where we trying and get him on.
He's really good, fascinating guy. I think he's written a book.
He's an expert on all of this stuff, and he
knew some of the experts are testified. But what I
what I found interesting is he was also very critical

(18:33):
of the defense as well. He said, this is this
is just it should be an open and shutcase, and
the defense is doing, let's just put it this way,
doing a poor job of making it seem that way
for the jury. Here's some of the testimony can kill
him right.

Speaker 8 (18:52):
Uh No, Now, in terms of that, you said, when
it comes down to the time to part of the shop,
you can't even say that. Patrick Poyne the taser at
you came.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
No, he didn't you No, he didn't thought he might
correct he was. I felt as though he was turning
towards me with that. But yeah, he didn't actually.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Didn't actually do it. You could see the red. Yeah,
by the way, they shown the taser on the screen
right now. This this is the point they're leaving out
in the edit here, the moment that Sure said he
was afraid for his life. By the way, it's all
you need in this case. Miche with that struggle and
you could see the red.

Speaker 9 (19:32):
I could you persive that? Yeah, I remember when I was.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
Fighting.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
This is this, This is the real tough part here.
Sure is a president again, he has to work directly
with police to prosecute none. I'm not saying you shouldn't
go after bad cops. If there are a bad cops
in situations, you got to do that. But he's got
to work with police, and they have to work hand
in hand with these cases. It's just really tough to
watch this, especially see the family got law enforcement. You're

(20:01):
seeing him kind of go after officer Sure in this way.
But this this was a life and death He's he's
kind of making a joke about it. This was a
life and death struggle. Well it was, and the case
the end is going to go back to the fact
that the Patrick Leoi had his hand on that taser

(20:22):
head control of it, at least it seemed like, and
sure in fear for his life, because if he's tased,
Patrick can then get the actual gun, and who knows,
people die from tasers too, So there's some of that
as well mixed in here.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Number seeing essentially this formation where I could see the
red in the switch, and that's basically all I could
see at.

Speaker 8 (20:44):
That time was the tirist and he was trying to
get away from you.

Speaker 9 (20:48):
Up until the end.

Speaker 8 (20:51):
In your experience, you've never known anybody killed by taste.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
This is just that this part of the question is
just completely it's his way off. It doesn't matter whether
it was killed by a taser or not. I know
he's trying to put down into the maybe into the
minds of the jury, But at the end of the day,
the truth on this is that the guy had control
of the taser and if he would have used it
on officers, sure he then could have he could have

(21:17):
gotten his actual firearm, and that that was a that
Wottle have been a massive problem. All right. There was
one very good defense witness. I believe he was the
last witness. He was an expert Lewis von Klein I

(21:37):
think is his name, expert in police practices used to
force policies, et cetera. And here's some of his back
and forth.

Speaker 10 (21:46):
Officers are not held up against standards that they've never
been made aware of under the total of circumstances. Was
it reasonable for that officer to believe, based on the
information they had in the circumstances they were in, based
on their knowledge, that there was a a reasonable belief
of the threat of deaticies by the injury this sort
I call it an avatar. There's this magical reasonable officer,

(22:08):
reasonably well trained officer, And they even said, what would
a reasonably well trained officer have perceived? Well, if you
understand what they just did there, they're saying that it
doesn't matter what this officer perceived. What would some magical,
imaginary officer have perceived? And that's what we're going to
hold him against. It was not only reasonable for an
officer to believe that he was facing in his situation,

(22:30):
was facing a threat of deatsies by the injury, but
after listening to that testimony, these officers are specifically trained
to believe that based on the testimony you heard from
your axon experts, your taser experts, and the taser warning labels,
these officers are actually trained to believe that they were
facing a threat of deatishers by the injury when someone

(22:50):
has taken their taser from them and is in a
condition to use it against them.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
That may have single handedly saved officers. Sure that testimon
in some of his own I believe may have done it.
So that's the breaking is defenses rested. Now we're waiting.
We've got some other things happening behind the scenes this morning.

(23:14):
We're waiting on the latest there. We'll give you the
updates and find out when we're probably going to get
closing arguments in the rest of it. As it's at,
the whole trial has just really moved along at a
breakneck pace. Speaking of moving along, let's try and do
some of that. Unfortunately, breaking those kind of getting us
off track this morning, but we'll try and make some
good time of it. On the phone with us right now,

(23:34):
Tim Golding AFP with us and man oh Man we've
got news out of DC. We're keeping the track of
as well. Tim, welcome in. We appreciate you being.

Speaker 9 (23:42):
Here, Thanks for having me justin.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
How you doing today, fantastic. So we've seen a lot
of good things happen in those first one hundred days,
and yet there's still lots more work to do. You're
focused on some of that as well.

Speaker 9 (23:55):
Yeah, hopefully I'll get some of this stuff codified and
not just executive orders. But we're focused on the Tax
cuttin Jobs Act that was made permanent or was enacted
the first time in twenty seventeen, and AFP was proud
to support that then, but at sunsets at the end
of this year, so that needs to get passed.

Speaker 7 (24:14):
Right now.

Speaker 9 (24:14):
The House and the Senate are doing their reconciliation dance,
and we are taking four business owners from Michigan to
d C today for an event tomorrow with Congressman Lisa
McClain and Katie Pavlich from Fox News, and they're going
to be able to tell their stories, ask some questions,
and hear about the reconciliation process and what's going on

(24:35):
in the timelines and so forth, and then we'll here
and be able to see what it means for families
if it doesn't get extended, what it means for businesses
if it doesn't get extended. So a lot of stuff's
going on. We just need some of this stuff to
get turned into law and not just executive orders, and
the tax cutsin jobs X needs to get extended.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah, this is a critical piece of the A plan,
by the way, as you mentioned a lot of these
things that are happening right now in DC trying to
get everything back on track. This is a big piece.
Got to have these tax cuts, and it's a big,
big part of it. Now. You mentioned this that you're
taking folks there. But if I can't go, and I'm

(25:17):
sitting back in my own easy chair, I can watch
this online.

Speaker 9 (25:20):
It sounds like you absolutely can. We're going to have
events in Michigan one and Grand Rapids one in Detroit
and Wanted Landing where people can go and watch the
live YouTube stream. You can go to our Facebook page
on Americans for Prosperity Michigan and find a link to those.
But yeah, if you can't obviously make it to DC,

(25:41):
we want everybody to hear this and share this knowledge
of what the good people are doing and Lisa McLean
and her colleagues in Washington, so you can see it. Listen,
if you come to one of our events, it's free,
there'll be food, they'll be drink. You can go there
and meet some new like minded individuals, some patriots and
see what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Mcclaim's one of the best, obviously. Pavilog is great too,
and a great conversation that certainly needs more, I think
more focused obviously on all the great things that have
happened in the first one hundred days, but still yet
more work to do. Tim, As you mentioned, these tax
cuts they got to go through. This will be a
big part of turning things around. Anything else you guys

(26:22):
have your eye on at AFP, while we got.

Speaker 9 (26:23):
You just energy and taxes, education stuff, the medical, healthcare freedom.
Those are the things that we focus on the most.
But the most pressing thing at this time is the TCJA,
because again, as you know, if this doesn't get made
permanent and extended, then Americans are going to see the

(26:45):
largest tax site they've ever seen in the history of
this grand country, and Michigan families will be paying an
average of twenty one hundred dollars more in their federal
tax bill come next.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Year at the worst time possible for it all too.

Speaker 9 (26:56):
Yeah, we just came through an awful four years of
being like twenty percent of elect collective inflation rate and
IRA and all the stuff that that Biden did to
drive the economy right in the toilet, and we're coming
out of that. It's going to take a while. It's
a long term gain, but people definitely do not need

(27:18):
their taxes going up personally or corporately in the next year.
That would be very detrimental for our country.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Tim Golding, Americans for Prosperity again, If people want to
watch that online, we'll make sure that they get links
to where to watch and of course be a part
of that conversation that make sure that we get what
we need done there because there's well, there's not a
lot of time to spare on this stuff. Tim, thank
you so much for taking the time to be here
with us again, Americans for Prosperity over on Facebook and

(27:47):
we'll put the links up on the stack a little
later on today. Always a pleasure, my friend.

Speaker 9 (27:51):
Thanks justin good day.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
Well have you back on too, Sorry for the you know,
the breaking news today kind of cut our time short,
but we'll do it again and we'll get a updates
as the days go on.

Speaker 9 (28:02):
Thank you brother, looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
You got it back with more after this. You know,
we got elections tomorrow. Some would like you just forget
about that. Yeah, there's lots of milogies and whatnot on
the ballot. And by the way, this is the stuff
that hits you in the pocketbook, the hardest. Right, we'll
talk about it. Give you an update again. The latest
breaking news. The defense is rested in the trial of

(28:27):
Officer Christopher Sure. More on that and the other stories
making big news coming up. After this, it's West Michigan Live,
asking the tough questions.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barklay on News Radio
Wood thirteen hundred and one oh six nine.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
Alf Am.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Here are your headlines from the Midwesterner this Monday, May fifth.
I'm Robin Paffman. It's a Midwesterner dot News original story.
DTE Energy wants close to six hundred million dollars from
Michigan taxpayers to can continue its progress on building the
electric grid of the future. This request, the second largest
in the company's history, submitted in late April, just three

(29:08):
months after the Michigan Public Service Commission approves a two
hundred million dollar rate hike for DTE. Last year's rate
hike increased monthly bills for the average residential customer by
four dollars and sixty one cents a month, and this
new move will reportedly tack on another thirteen fifty starting
next year. A Republican Michigan lawmaker looking to ban Chinese

(29:30):
made vehicles from operating here on Michigan roads where heat
his plan at the Midwesterner Dot news. And President Trump
says he wants to make Hollywood great again and is
looking to use tariffs to get movies made here in
the US instead of foreign countries. For these stories and more,
visit the Midwesterner at the Midwesterner dot News.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Well let's look at the markets, shall we? Big breaking
news over the weekend? Lots of green but news over
the weekend. Berkshire Hathaways CEO step in that warm Buffet
shares falling six percent after the shocking Buffet exit and
earnings declined. Talking about retiring some people, they say, I

(30:13):
saw headlines centting they were grateful that they served all
that time, but then others kind of scared. What are
they What are we going to do next? Without Warren
at the helm, we got lots of red this morning.
I don't know if it's because of that or or
what the reasoning might be. Down about two hundred points
in a dow s and p five hundred set to

(30:34):
end a nine day wedding street. That's are the headlines.
It's at CNBC. But we tell you every time we
go through these things, Sich, we always tell you it
doesn't matter what the headlines are. The good news is again,
if you're taking the right steps, you can sleep well
at night. The folks at Talent Wealth are walking people
through eight and every day. Listeners of this program that

(30:55):
have reached out to Mike Lester and the team to say,
I want to make sure that no matter whether I'm
retiring today, tomorrow, ten twenty years down the road, that
are in good hands guarding your nest. Egg dot com
is the website, or you can reach out to the
whole team and ask questions on the phone at sixty
one six six six one one thousand. That's sixty one
six sixty six one one thousand. I'll be happy to

(31:16):
help you. A holistic approach ensures that you don't just survive,
you thrive during those especially in retirement. Guarding your nest
Egg dot com also appreciate the support for this program.
All the line with us right now. No stranger to
the program is our good friend Carla Wagner at AX
my tax and tomorrow. We don't forget we got to election.

(31:37):
They want you to forget about this, but these are
millages and things like that that Carlo reached out and said, hey,
can I tell just just remind people like to talk
about this and remind people that these are going on them. Mark, Carla,
good morning. Appreciate you taking the time.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
Hey, justin good morning to you and thanks for having
me again. This is awesome, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
My pleasure. I know we don't have a lot of time,
but it is important. We wanted to do this from
but again the breaking news kind of pulled us off track.
But you know, this is the thing that you are
even very good to remind people about, is that you
know these elections they hit you in the pocketbook the hardest,
the ones that we forget and spend less, the least time,
aount of time on that. Really focusing on.

Speaker 6 (32:16):
That is correct. And there's two points because I know
our time is short. Justin two points that I want
to make for people today. Number One, call your township clerk,
your county clerk and ask for an automatic absentee ballot
and be mailed to your house every time there's an
election coming up. This is the only way that we

(32:38):
alert people to these small millages, these off off terms millages. Right, So,
we have a vote tomorrow that's going to hit a
lot of the school districts across the state of Michigan.
And you know what, I can't believe how many people
don't know about it. And why don't they.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
Know about it?

Speaker 6 (32:58):
Because they're not being told that there is something coming up.
We're all so busy in our lives, people forget about
these little millages. But if they stay home and don't vote, no,
guaranteed their property taxes are going up. And no one
can afford that.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Right now, Yeah, now that's right. We just talked with
Tim Golding about actual taxes and getting the tax cuts
in and now more than ever, you don't need to
you don't need a tax increase, and on your property taxes,
that's a whole other issue. You can't get away from those.

Speaker 6 (33:28):
It is, and you're right. And here's the thing, and
again I'm not picking on anybody, but public schools are
funded by everybody, even the Christian school parents. Christian school
parents that pay tuition also have to pay public school
probably through their property taxes. Right, So do elderly people,
the senior citizens. So do young families that have no kids.

(33:51):
So do the homeschool parents. And you know what, So
when people go and say you have to vote yes
on this millage, this public school millage, it's for kids.
The problem is it's a thirty year millage, and you're
saddling your kids with so much debt. They will never
be able to buy a house. That's what's happening. Because

(34:11):
there's a thirty year millage, and then there's a twenty
year millage, and a fifteen year millage and another ten
year millage, and those millages are piling up to the
point that our kids and grandkids will never be able
to own a home because of those millages. It's property taxes.
Those are the reasons why people can't buy houses right
now or stay in houses. It's because of property taxes.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
It's unthinkable. Look, I know, Calor, we don't have a
lot of time left but the main point was for
you to tell people about the villages tomorrow, to get
out and make sure you're a breast of the information.
You're aware. But also I know that you'd like folks
to join the effort to ax my tax and you're
collecting petitions. How can folks help you right now?

Speaker 6 (34:54):
Yes, axmax dot org. Go to the website, sign up
to help us circulate the petitions. We have until the
end of September to get six hundred thousand signatures. We
get this on the ballot, we go and vote. They
have to put it into play. We can eliminate property
tax and fund all of these services with all of

(35:16):
the other taxes that we send to the state.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
I love it.

Speaker 6 (35:20):
That's what we need to do.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Thank you so much, appreciate it. We'll have you back
because we got I know people have questions and it
won't work through some of this, and I'd like to
have you back to to get a little bit better
explanation of everything and of course give folks the tools
they need here. Carlo Lagner, always a pleasure. Thank you
so much.

Speaker 6 (35:35):
Thank you. Justin have a great day.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Hey, you got it, you too, did you see? I
just a lot of the land on this, by the way,
over the weekend, the Kentucky Derby, the winning horse this
was just this, says all, folks, the winning horse. Sovereignty

(35:58):
was its name, by the way, sovereignty, and it beat journalism.
And when they pulled the jockey to the side to
talk to him about the whole thing, listen to what
he said, what name you know?

Speaker 5 (36:11):
First of all, thank you. I gotta thanks my Lord
Jesus for.

Speaker 7 (36:17):
Jim.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
It is Entucky every way with him and Solver Thing
who got me all the way to the wire. I
want to thank my Lord Jesus. Sovereignty wins, folks. What
a prophetic ending to the Kentucky Derby. Welcome to the
Golden era America. We're back, folks, isn't that something? All right?
