Speaker 1 (00:00):
Anthony for Lanny joining us right now and making a
big announcement this morning, just announce a run for the
Secretary of State here in Michigan.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Thank you for joining us, Hi justin Thanks for having
me on.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
You got it. Macomb County clerk, business owner, community member, husband,
father and now in the campaign and the race for
the Michigan Secretary of State. Thank you so much. So
why is it so important? I mean, I could think
of a million reasons, but I'm sure you've got a
few of your own this morning as you break news.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, you know, as I became the Mcomb County Clerk
five years ago, it was all about customer service. It
was all about providing what the taxpayers paid for. They
pay for efficiency. They pay to have their services provided
to them in a three efficient, friendly manner. And we've
done that in McComb. Again, we're the third largest county

(00:53):
in the state of Michigan. So we had our own
challenges here in our office, bringing services so that people
didn't have to wait. Shortly after take an office, I
you know, brought everybody back during COVID, we got to
get to work and within three weeks we had one
hundred percent of our people back to work. And the
other thing I did was I shut off voicemail. Listen,

(01:14):
we're here to provide a service. And what we found
is that the time to take care of phone calls
were much lower because you know, you don't like voicemail.
I don't like voicemail. Why are we doing it right?
So the lines in our office, they are gone. Used
to be, you know, very long lines in the office.

(01:34):
None of that exists anymore. You come into our office
in McComb County, again, the third largest county in the state,
there's no way we take care of you within five minutes.
And I'm very proud of the work that we've done here,
and I think that's got to be brought up at
the state level, the same thing, you know I did.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
The elections are very important. Course I want to talk
a little bit more about that here in a moment,
but you know, I just had to renew my tags
and everything, and the things that they've they've done, like
the hoops they make us jump through now at the
state level, to me, I just don't think have been helpful.
It's really it's it's kind of discombobulated the whole system.

(02:10):
And again, let let's not make us not rocket science,
it's not brains or just make it as simple as possible.
And as you mentioned, let's make it as easy for
folks to be able to get the help that they
need and and you know, without charging an arm and
a leg for it.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
All right. You know, our people at our office are friendly.
And what they found is the friendlier they are, the
more they like their job. And the friendlier they are,
the people are leaving positive comments. And you know what
that just starts to feed in into itself. And what
we're finding is that we've got a great workplace. We
got people that come in and give us positive comments

(02:46):
all the time. And and that's that's what's important. That's
what we're here to do, is provide a service. You know,
the taxpayers don't owe us, don't owe us anything, but
we owe them a service. So and I believe in
that whole.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Hardly Dinny for leading with this right now, sir, let
me ask you as far as the run for Secretary
of State, one of the biggest things is on the
focus for folks is you know, election integrity. In fact,
we're going to talk with folks from Gateway Punnit here
in just a moment. Somebody did a big Foyer request
on Detroit election specifically, and they're digging through, coming through
some of the evidence there and looking for things. What

(03:21):
needs to be done here in Michigan to make sure,
I mean, the Secretary of State Joscelyn Benson has been
told number of times she's breaking the law by judges
and all these other folks. How do we get elections
back on track here in Michigan.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Well, you know what I find is transparency is the
key to everything. Transparency, Transparency, transparency, because if there are problems,
it's good to expose them because you know what, what
do we want to do? We want to fix things.
So in McComb County we did a lot of things
early on, like we turned on our tabulator scanning so
that you can tell the tabulators that the election taguladers

(03:57):
as the ballot goes through. It scans the ballot and
also says how that tabulator scored that ballot. So anybody
that wants to foil that information can do that and say, hey,
all right, these tabulators did the job the right way
or no they didn't, And you know what, that just
takes one more thing off the table. You know, we've
done watermarked ballots. That takes one more other thing off

(04:18):
the We do hash validations on our tabulators. That gives
a little bit more confidence. And there's more that can
be done, and unfortunately there's some things that we can't
do because of the directives that we've gotten from Lansing.
But I believe we got to be like other states,
more transparent, providing enough information so that people can say, yep,
that election was legit, and that's important. Don t take

(04:41):
the doubts off the table.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Absolutely, Tony for Laney current clercare on McComb County running
for Secretary of State here in Michigan. Sorry for the
abbreviated time today, but we will definitely have you back
on and get further into this conversation. Just announce his run.
And where can folks follow you or find out more.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Well, they can go to our website for Menie for
f O r US. Uh come come see what we're
doing and uh endorse.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
You got it. Thank you, my friend, appreciate it. Thank you,
God blessed

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
