Speaker 1 (00:00):
Meghan Reckling joins us right now. Meghan, thank you so
much for taking the time to be here with us.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yeah, thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
So let's break it down. The thumbnail sketches. A lot
of people probably don't know, but this is possible. In fact,
it is happening. We know. I just showed a news
story from the AP if you're not familiar, and it
really is unfortunate. But my question is if one guy voted,
how many others are we just don't know about. We
(00:28):
got to have the proper safe checks, the proper checks
and balances in place to make sure that this kind
of thing could never happen. There should never be even
an appearance of impropriety in this sacred duty we all
take part in. So break it down. What are you
all doing, the folks behind this initiative, and how could
(00:49):
people who are listening say I want to be a
part of this help out.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, great question, Thank you so much. So. You know,
back in twenty twenty three, when Caleb Or courts ruled
that non citizens can vote in state and local elections,
it kind of really sent up alarm bells for states
across the country that we should take proactive steps to
make sure that our elections are safe from radical courts
(01:15):
doing the same thing. And so a group called Americans
for Citizen Only Voting really started working last cycle, and
they worked in nine different states to put constitutional amendments
on the ballot that they all passed successfully, all nine
last year. And then Michigan is one of the states
(01:36):
that this year, they came into Michigan and said, you know, hey, listen,
let's work together to secure the elections in Michigan. We
already know from the Chinese national that voted down at UFM.
But furthermore, Benson herself announced that over a dozen non
citizens voted last cycle. There's thirteen other people that are
(01:56):
under criminal investigation or criminal charges as non citizens for
voting in the twenty twenty four election. And so this
initiative kind of does three main things. It amends our
state constitution to clearly say non citizens cannot vote in
state and local elections, only citizens can. It forces the
Secretary of State to verify the citizenship of everybody on
(02:19):
our current voter rolls and remove non citizens. And then
it requires a mandatory photo ID to vote. So that
kind of really helps us kind of go on offense
after a lot of years of playing defense with our elections,
putting some safeguards and guide rails up on the secretary
of State's office kind of as we move forward into
(02:40):
a new secretary of State after twenty twenty six, we
have to collect over four hundred and forty seven valid
signatures for Michigan residents. And this isn't this is common sense,
This isn't contentious, This shouldn't be partisan. Democrats are trying
to make it partisan. But over eighty percent of mens
Michigan residents strongly supports and believe that only citizens should
(03:04):
be voting in our elections. And we can tell you
when you're working an eighty twenty issue. We can see
it on the streets right Our circulators are out there
right now volunteering to collect signatures. They are running out
of petition sheets from the up down to Berrien County,
Southeast Michigan. People can't sign this fast enough. And again
that's because it's common sense. It's an eighty twenty common
(03:27):
sense solution to protect our elections. So we have a
short time window to collect the signatures. Benson and the
Democrats are working really hard against us, so we need
every single grassroots patriot here in Michigan to help us
achieve our goal. I know you put our website out there,
but michcov dot com is our website. If every single
(03:51):
grassroots patriot in Michigan committed to collecting twenty five signatures,
just twenty five, we would hit our goal before the
end of December. And so that's a really achievable number.
Everybody knows twenty five people, friends, family, at church, you know,
other community or civic organizations they're a part of. So
(04:11):
we're asking that everybody kind of help us get to
our goal. We've had a lot of years of playing
defense and so it's kind of fun to finally be
on offense and watching the Democrats try to defend. They're
really out of touch position on this issue.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, I mean it is. The party's gone, you know,
not to make this a partisan conversation, but it really has.
It's gone. It gone completely off the rails. In fact,
it's to the detriment. I think more and more people
are leaving the party because of that, and this is
just another one of those scenarios that I think is
common sense. Look, we need to know who you are,
(04:46):
we need to know that you're a valid citizen here
and you know photo ID? Why is that so hard
to I got to have photo ID for everything? Why
wouldn't I include that when it comes to making sure
that again taking part in this sacred.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Duty, you're one hundred percent correct. We had a couple
of people over the weekend to ask us or ask circulators,
how do you expect people to go, you know, who
can't afford anything, to go get their free ID. And
just kind of looked at them and said, well, how
do you expect them to go get their free food
from food stamps? Do you think they don't ever leave
their house? People are fully capable to your point. You
(05:23):
have to have a photo ID for nearly You can't
even adopt a pet in Michigan without having a photo ID.
And verifying your citizenship is incredibly easy to do your
driver's license to some extent enhanced and real ID driver's license,
you've verified your citizenships. Democrats are trying all of the
(05:44):
tricks of the trade to gaslight people and scare them,
saying this is going to require that you take your
passport to vote. That's absolute poppycock. There's no way this
is going to require people to take their passport to vote.
You're going to have your citizenship verified one time. It'll
be in the qualified voter file that you're a verified citizen,
(06:06):
and then you're done and you move on. And really
it should happen when you register to vote anyways, And
that's what went sideways down at ann Arbor, down at
U of M. They did not verify his citizenship. They
knew he was a resident, and that's how he was
allowed on our voter rolls. And we've never gotten a
clear answer. I still think Benson and her crew sat
around a table saying, well, we can't tell him zero anymore,
(06:30):
but what number can we tell him that isn't insane?
So they came up with the number fifteen. Let's just
tell him fifteen people voted. But I'm convinced it's a
lot more than that. Would they when you talk to
election officials, how.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Would they even know which is? And I think it's
the tougher question, how would you.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Even know and correct?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
And it's it's just there's an easy solution to this,
so we might as well put it. So what people
I'm getting inundated right now with more than anything else,
lots of questions and by the way, if you want
some love the use of the word poppycock, which I
think is a good way to describe it.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
But I was live on the air and I didn't
want you to get a fine.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
I think we still I think that that word's acceptable.
We'll go with that.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Look, by the way, people want to know how do
I sign this? Where do I go? What do I
do to make sure? Because you said how many signatures
do you have to have? Again, you got to have
a lot.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
So we got to have four hundred and forty seven
thousand valid signatures. So our goal is to collect six
hundred and fifty so that Benson and the Democrats can't
play games with certifying this. It cannot be a digital
signature like this isn't one of the online you get
to click and type in your name. You have to
actually sign it in person. We do have people circulating
(07:46):
all over Michigan. So here's what you can do. If
you want to sign yourself. Go to the website m
ichcov dot com and click on the volunteer link. There
is a place to sign up for petition on the
website and then you can tell us how many sheets
you want. So yeah, if you click on that volunteer
link right there, fill out your information and we will
(08:09):
mail you a petition. Even if it's just you, even
if only you want to sign, we will mail you
a petition sheet that you can sign and mail back
to us with directions. If you're willing to help us
get at least twenty five signatures, we can send you
a couple of sheets. We do have some really cool
gear there Citizens for only Voting T shirts that if
(08:29):
you collect at least fifty signatures you're going to get
a free T shirts. We have cool red hats that
say make Elections Secure again that if you turn in
five hundred volunteer signatures, you're going to get a hat.
So we've got some incentives to help people. We have
already collected thousands of signatures just in the two and
(08:50):
a half weeks that we've been in the field with
only volunteer circulators, so we can get there. I'm really
excited about the opportunity. I've worked on initiatives more combating
the progressive ones, and this is the first time where
we as conservatives can really go on offense and put
some guardrails on these crazy ballot proposals they've passed the
(09:13):
last couple of cycles that have just shattered the integrity
of our elections. But we just can't do it without
the help. We have to have grassroots people from all
over Michigan go to the website and sign up to
get their petition kit and then help us collect petitions
and most importantly, get those turned in as fast as possible.
Timing is key. We have to be the first petition
(09:36):
in the door because if we're not, if we're last,
Benson is going to play games and try to keep
this off the ballot. So there's about five to six
other liberal initiatives out there right now that people should
avoid signing, but we have to beat them in the door.
We have to collect our signatures first because that will
force Benson to certify our signatures for the ballot before
(09:58):
she gets to their signatures.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Wow. Timing is of the essence. It sounds like missh
co ov dot com, m I c chcov dot com,
Megan Wreckling with the story today and we would love
to have you back, come back, give us some updates
on this where folks can get these petitions, get them signed,
and get them out so we can get this done.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Would love to do that anytime.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Thank you Megans as I was a mishcov dot com
is the website Megan Wreckling. It's big, folks. We don't
fix this. It doesn't matter what President Trump does here
or what happens in the next year or so in
our elections. If we don't fix this, this is it's
easy to turn all of this stuff around. These these
(10:44):
elections have consequences, as folks are seeing again, we are
in squarely in that find out era. Lots of folks
are finding out as a president Trump is trying to
turn things around right now, back
