Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's talk some good news. In fact, we just shared
some of this off the year. It's a big story.
President Trump talking about eighteen trillion in investment coming back
into the country.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
And extent because without the November fifth election, you would
have had a president that didn't have the courage to
use tariffs the way they should be used. And because
of the tariffs, we've taken in more than eighteen Think
of this, eighteen trillion dollars has never been anything like it.
As an example, the previous administration, Sleepy Joe Biden, took
in less than one trillion in four years. We took
(00:33):
in more than eighteen trillion in ten months. I'd say
that's pretty good, right, I'd say that's very good. And
if you go back, if you go back into history,
there's never been a country that's taken in more than
three trillion.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
He's talking of. He's talking about investment into the country,
and we've seen that. We've seen a big push to
make it here in America. Again, those are those are
dollars pouring in in plants and factories and investment chips
and cars here in Michigan. In some places we've seen
just just trillion after trillion, enough to eighteen trillion dollars,
(01:09):
he says, good news. And again, the reason why I
bring this up is you've you've got to hear this.
Folks say, well, if we don't get certain things together,
you know people are hurting. If we don't fix this,
we don't do that by the midterms, you know things
are going to be shaky. Well, no, I disagree. I
think if you don't talk about the good things, if
you don't share the good things, if you don't do
(01:30):
your duty to make sure that other people around you
see it, understand it, and know. Like this story I
hear every time I mentioned the gas price is the
lowest they've been in four years. Incredible. I just went
to fill up the other day. I said two seventy
something admire. Oh my goodness, I can't remember last time
I saw it that cheap in Michigan. Folks, if you
don't share those stories and you don't talk about that,
(01:52):
and people say, well, you don't get the Trump president
doesn't control the gas prices, well, why weren't they low Underbiden?
It is it is singularly the policies of this president
driven the fuel price is lower. So we got to
give credit where credit is too, And speaking of that
at the state level here in Michigan, let's give credit
to House Republicans who've uncovered hundreds of millions of dollars
(02:16):
last week alone in waste fraud and abuse hidden inside
slush on the speaker to the houses on with us
right now, talk about the latest. We appreciate you taking
the time to be here with this, mister speaker.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Hey, thanks for having me that hole here.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
And you know, as I mentioned, we got to make
sure we're talking about the good news, and this is
one of those stories that can't be ignored.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
I appreciate you pointing that out. You know, we came
in and we had a mission to eliminate waste, fraud
and abuse and government. Every time we take an action
to do that, they're the Democrats live. I remember earlier
this year when we uncovered thousands of ghost employees, fake workers.
(03:02):
The Whitmer administration was using the PAD department programs. We
got her to sign a bill to cut two thousand
ghost workers. And they don't laugh anymore. Well, now you know,
we've uncovered all kinds of wasteful grants and department pork
spending from the Democrat trifecta, and we said, we're going
(03:23):
to take an act to this, We're going to eliminate it,
and then we're going to come back next year. We're
going to negotiate a new deal, and we're going to
get much better use for your tax dollars.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Yeah. I think one of the biggest stories here, obviously,
is the work you guys are doing behind the scenes.
People have to hear it. If it doesn't make it
to the light. A lot of times, and I don't
blame people for this, but a lot of times folks
get frustrated think nothing's going on. All I hear is talk.
But that's that's just not the case. There's lots of things,
lots of action, big moves, particularly this from House Republicans
(03:58):
that are leading the way.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah. And I recognized, you know, for years the people
voted for the Republicans, and then they looked at it
and said, you know, why are we voting for the Republicans.
These guys are not fighting hard enough. And I think,
you know, President Trump has led the way showing the
Republicans how to fight. And you know this provision we
(04:23):
used and I told the governor, this is my favorite
Michigan law. This is the law under the Budget Act
that allows one chamber. And remember in Michigan we only
control one chamber, we only control the House. It allows
one chamber to unilaterally block the governor. At the end
(04:45):
of a year, so we appropriate a budget, they're supposed
to spend that money in one year. What used to
be the exception is now becoming the rule under Whitmer,
where most of the money she doesn't spend all of
it in the year because because she has way too
much money, so she tries to put it into a
flush fund so she can keep it for another five years.
(05:08):
We can block that with one chamber. And that's what
we did. And I'd say for years, whether it was
Governor Grandholm or the first two terms or two years
of Whitmer, or first four years of Whitmer, the Republicans
had this power. They just never had the guts to
use it. And I really want to compliment Anne Bolan,
who's our House Appropriations cheer all of those warriors on
(05:29):
the House Appropriations Committee who walked in there and had
the guts to stand in and block the Whitmer administration
from spending six hundred and forty four million dollars on
mostly waste, broad and abuse, forcing it to go back
in the general fund so that the legislature can have
a say in how this money is spent in the future.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yeah, speak of the House, Matt Hall with us right
now as Republicans turning things along around doing things that
as you mentioned, the President giving you the courage to
stand up and do some of those things and cover
really to make sure that those things are taking place.
They've been hearing a lot about dose in the in
the headlines, but now this is in fact, we got
a Michigan does out of our way as well. This
(06:12):
is just maybe the tip of the iceberg when it
comes to the waste, fraud and the abuse here that's
happening at the state level. And as you mentioned, Democrats
playing these games for years with these slush funds. People
are tired of it.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Yeah. I mean this has accumulated ten billion dollars in
slush funds for the Whitmer administration. And you know, if
you look through the new spending they were trying to
continue for another five years, you know this was their
their pot of money for all of the to put
all the tampons in the boy's bathroom and all the
state buildings. This was their pot of money for all
(06:48):
the illegal rental subsidies and welfare. This was where they
funded the diversity festivals, all of their DEI initiatives. This
was where they spent money to try to build ev
chargers all over the Lake Michigan Lake Shore, all of
(07:09):
the efforts to draw funding from the Biden era climate
climate programs, all kinds of waste brought and abuse, and
we slashed it. And the Democrats, I've never seen them
this mad before. They are so addicted to the pork
in the budget. If you take a whack at the pork,
that's I mean, there's nothing that wakes up the Democrats
(07:32):
like that. But we're ready for this fight. We are
going to get better value for your tax dollars.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
House Speaker Matt Hall. The Republicans making big moves, all right,
So this is a this is big news, right, this
is a really good news. What is next? Obviously, as
you continue down this path, what are you all looking at?
What are the next pieces maybe that folks need to
be aware of. In the days they had, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
So we stripped all of the slush funds from the
Big Department. So For example, Joscelyn Benson wanted to keep
millions and millions of dollars to buy foreign election equipment
and contract with sorospack technology companies ahead of the twenty
twenty sixth election. We blocked all of that. We blocked
all of her money for it. This was something that
(08:22):
she's been really mismanaging the IT programs, and even the
Democrats came in and took some of it away from her.
We blocked all of her IT spending. You know, the
DNR is out of control, just just you know, doing
all kinds of things beyond their power. We took all
of their money away, and so now they're going to
(08:44):
have to negotiate with Chairman Ken Borton if they want
to get their money back, and we're going to, you know,
we're going to continue to tighten our grip on them
to ensure that they are doing what they should be
doing for for our hunters and fishers across the state.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Speaker of the House Matt Hall mentioning some of these
issues obviously got more work to do, but I think
it's important to highlight what's already been done in the
big moves that are happening behind the scenes is mister speaker,
you take the time to do that with us, and
I got, like I said, I know you've got more
work to do, and you're you're working NonStop behind the
scenes there. Before I let you go, we'll say Merry Christmas,
(09:27):
Happy New Year to you, and please come back. Let
us know in the new year what priorities are and
where you guys are headed the jobs to things that
you're trying to get done. And we love the course
to get a chance to get that out there, because
again I'm making this case twenty twenty six. Obviously you
know it's got to be important for the nation, but
I think it's going to be even more critical for
(09:48):
us here in Michigan to take our state back.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Yeah. Well, thank you for having me and we you know,
I want the people to know we're in there fighting
for him every day, standing up to governor with and
the Democrats and the Senate getting better value for your
tax dollars. And next year we'll be working to get
property tax relief to the people across the state. I
think we've used we've had a credible power controlling one
(10:15):
branch of the three in government, just the House, forcing
them to cut waste, fraud and abuse, getting Governor Whitmer
to sign no tax on tips, over time and social security,
and we got more to do next year.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Absolutely always a pleasure. Thank you for taking the time
here with us, Speaker of the House, Matt
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Hall, thank you, you got it.
