Speaker 1 (00:00):
And just moments here as the stories that matter most,
the ones you won't hear anywhere else, we get a
chance to talk about and with folks that are right
in the middle of them. The fact he's in the
middle of a run for governor here, Pastor Ralph Frieban
is no stranger to that. In fact, he is run
before lots of folks welcome him back into the race. Pastor,

(00:22):
thank you so much for such a time as this.
It would seem, first of.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
All, welcome in.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
But I want to ask you about what happened over
the weekend, and just from a perspective as a pastor
of this horrific attack on this church here in Graham Blank.
These types of things aren't and I hate to say this,
but they aren't.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
They're not uncommon these.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Days, that's correct.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
In fact, if you look at the statistics, more people
have died in church shootings than on college campuses. It's
just horrific.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
And I as one.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
When I was a pastor in Farmington Hills, we made
sure that we had a team of people that were prepared,
that were carrying because we didn't want to have this
kind of disaster at our church. And I would just
encourage every pastor who's out there listening to this to
get a qualified team together.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
There are groups out there that will help train.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
I remember going through training with the Michigan State Police
as a chaplain for the Michigan Chiefs the police. We
had some really good training with them, probably about ten
years ago. And when I'm governor, we're going to institute
that back. And it was very valuable, very helpful. You know,
we had as chaplain for the police. We had several
officers that came to our church every Sunday and they

(01:38):
would carry their weapons. We also had a gentleman who
could shoot a dime from about twenty yards away. That's
really incredible I saw with my own eyes. So anyway, yeah,
churches have to be prepared for this, and my heart
is broken for these people in Grant Blank.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
I preached yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
In Greenville, Michigan, and I was just blown away when
I heard about it later in the afternoon. I just
couldn't believe it that Christians are under attack and we
see it all over the place. And if pastors don't
see that, we've got an issue because not only are
people being attacked, but primarily it appears to be Christians
of recent so we have to be prepared for that.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Well, and you're absolutely right, Pastor what do you what
do you say to folks? I mean, you put this
alongside all the other big stories of the day, and
also the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk as well.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
How do people make sense of this?

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Or I don't even know if that's what, if that's
some of that's possible, and particularly people of faith.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Yeah, that's a really good question, justin you know, I'll
answer that in just one second. I spoke to Charlie
Kirk memorial over in Shelby Township and I had gone
and I think it's about eight that I've been at.
I've probably spoke at almost half of them, or maybe
half of them. And I've just noticed that a lot

(03:07):
of these events really aren't dealing with the emotions of people.
And so when I spoke in Shelby Township, I said
to the folks, I said, you know, after this is over,
I'd be willing to stand and talk to anyone who
wants to know how I dealt with it and how
I'm still dealing with it.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Because we knew Charlie personally, and it was just it
was hard.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
It was just difficult to process because he's the last
guy that I would have ever thought would have been assassinated.
Let me add Martyred as a Christian, He's the last
one that I would have imagined that happening to. But
afterwards there was a line that we stayed till like
two and a half hours after the event ended, talking

(03:46):
to people helping them process. So to answer that question,
because everybody's wondering that are you know and ourselves, well,
first of all, if I didn't have faith in Almighty God,
I would wonder what's going on? And I think we
are totally out of control. And what we've seen throughout
scripture over and over again is what we see in

(04:06):
Genesis chapter fifty where Joseph tells his brothers, you meant
it for evil, but God turned it for good. And somehow,
I know people who are faith listening to this will
know that when something difficult comes into our lives like
this and so horrific, we can look back five years

(04:26):
from now, three years from now, maybe six months from
now and say, God use that He's so powerful that
he was able to turn that evil into good. And
I have seen that you know, even just an example
with Charlie, he had like two thousand chapters across the
United States. Then he was assassinated, and there are now

(04:47):
sixty five thousand over maybe over at this point, maybe
over sixty five thousand requests to start new chapters, and so,
you know, they have no idea what they've unleashed. We
are seeing some positive i'll say revival going on right
now with gen z ors and millennials, people who've been

(05:07):
lied to about life, about gender, about ortion, and they're
really waking up because Charlie told them the truth. And
so the truth to the bottom line is justin The
truth is God is still in control and he is
able to take the evil that was just happening in
Grand Blank and somehow he's going to use it for good.

(05:29):
I don't know at this moment how he's going to
do that. I mean, my heart's heavy.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
You even know.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
The Putman family, they you know, they're strong patriots and
just lost three of their family members in a car accident,
and you just wonder, what is all this going on?
I mean, this is demonic, This is horrible, and.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, there's so much of that in the world. You know,
we talk about a lot of times what we need
and who can come save us and a lot of
the uh you know, I'm sure you can speak on
that as well.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
You know, there's a lot of a lot of conversation.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
We need a businessman, we need uh you know, somebody
get this government back on track.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Right.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
We've seen that with President Trump. Although I think he's
bringing lots of different skills to the table. One question
might be why a pastor and knowing what I know
about you know, how church is run and how things
have to do. I mean there's a lot of hats.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
It is kind of like.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
A general you know, I mean you you are kind
of like you are kind of like, uh really in
your in your own sort of uh you know, army there,
uh in a lot of ways bring a lot to tim.
Maybe you can speak on that as what Michigan needs
and why you're ready to uh to step up.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
Well, if I could first address yeah, if I could
first address the issue of a we need a businessman.
You know, pastors are CEOs of a of an organization
and uh, you know, I've been a small business owner.
I've started businesses from scratch. I've been part of Labor's
Union Michigan, the Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, the Metal

(07:13):
Workers Union. I've been involved in so many things justin
I'm not just a pastor. I have so much experience.
I ran a plant in Pennsylvania when I was in seminary,
from production to shipping. You know, there's just so much
And as a pastor, when you start a church, which
is what we did, you've got to have a vision,

(07:33):
you've got to have a plan, you've got to have
a budget, all of the things that are necessary. A
church is a small business, and we ended up starting
three daughter churches from that, working the same program. They're
successful today. My compatriots in ministry elected me to be
the chairman of a regional church planting committee, and I
was as chair for twenty some years, overseeing new churches

(07:56):
in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Canada and so so. You know,
there's so much business.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Background that I have bringing it to it.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
But you know, when I look at what's going on,
I really am still convinced that the message that we
had in twenty twenty two when I was running for
governor is even now more relevant.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
That we have to.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Get back to God's ordained institutions. We have to get
back to restoring the family because all of this stuff,
if you look at everything that's going on, it boils down.
It really does boil down to the disintegration of the family.
And when you think about that, if you go back
and you look at the goals of the Communist Party
for America, one of them was to disintegrate the family

(08:40):
through pornography, through causing children to distrust their parents, through
having them listen to teachers more than their parents. I mean,
these are all verbatim points that were listed for the
Communist Goals for America.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Yeah, and you know, I think, you know, it's interesting
used to be when you talk that way. Oh maybe
some people would understand, and most of most of folks
might say, yeah, well, I don't know about that, But
I think it's it's really it's become more obvious than
ever before, hasn't it really?

Speaker 3 (09:14):
It really has.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
In fact, on I seventy five, heading south from northern Michigan,
there was a billboard I think it was Communist Goal
twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
They had.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
All it had was Communist Goal for America Number twenty seven,
get to get controls of the schools and in doctrinate
the children.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
And I don't know.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
Who put that billboard up, but somebody's getting in it.
And somebody put that up because that is reality. I mean,
you know, we talk about socialism, but we are really
on a trajectory, especially you look at Mondamia in New
York City. We're on a trajectory toward communism. And the
only thing that can stop that is people of faith.
Because it's not about the group. It's not about LBGTQ rights,

(09:56):
it's not about women rights, it's about as our constitutional
founders stated, it's about individual rights. And so that's that's
what Christianity promotes, you know, as we talk about how
our faith affects what we believe, Jesus Christ came to
save individuals, and he came to redeem them.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
He came to show forgiveness.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
And you know, when you think of what Erica Kirk
said on this, you know a week ago Sunday, I
was really hoping and praying she would say that. But
in all honesty, if she didn't forgive the killer, I
would have If she didn't say anything, I don't mean
didn't forgive. If she hadn't said anything, I would have
understood that. But my prayer was that in her heart

(10:37):
she would have expressed that.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
And you you.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Know, we're just right now in America. We are polarizing.
There are two different groups out there. There are people
who want to burn cities down when somebody dies, and
there are people who want to pray and give forgiveness.
And that's where we are as Christians, and that's why
that message is so huge. There's not another religion in
the world that promotes that kind of forgiveness other than Christianity.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Ralph Freeban pastor there running for governor here in Michigan. Uh.
Where can folks find out more, get information and follow you?
Maybe a volunteer, donate, et cetera.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yes, it's Ralph Reban. I'm sorry, it's just reband for
number four governor dot com. Reban for governor. If you
spell it out, fo R gets you there too. We
bought all the links to it so just to make
it easier though, it's rebaned R E B A N
D T reband for Governor dot com. That'll take you

(11:32):
to our website, that'll take you to our launch video.
And we really justin we really have a vision. It's
bigger than anything else. We want to bring the Golden
Age of Michigan here, and we want to see safety
for our children. We want to see a robust economy,
and we have a plan to reduce the budget.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
I mean, the Republicans did an incredible.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Job identifying FTEs, full time employees that the various departments
we're asking for and they never did, like for Inximple
Corrections took their money that they were supposed to use
to hire employees. The Corrections department put it, I think
it was a two hundred and fifty thousand dollars edition
onto a prison. I mean, misuse of funds. But we

(12:16):
have a plan to even reduce the budget. More so
we're excited about it. And that's what creative thinking does,
thinking out of the box. As you all know, I'm
not a politician. I'm not going in as a politician.
I'm not looking to climb the political ladder to the
next rung. As one person said, they're supporting me because
I'm a problem solver, not a political ladder climber.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Well, Ralph freebat pastor running for governor with some I
think some much needed solutions as we're taking a look
at these things these days, and always a pleasure of
joining us, Pastor, thank you so much. Reband for governor
dot com. That's R E B A N d T
the number four governor dot com. Well, we'll stay up

(13:01):

here with it.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Thank you, justin have a great day.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
You got it.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
