Speaker 1 (00:00):
How'd you like to have a drone guarding your house?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Huh? I don't know about that.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Some folks make you a little queasy, some might get excited.
Let's talk about that. In our Tech Talk segment, our
good friend Trent Kenneby joins us Lake Michigan Drive in
Standale Affordable Eye Store with the latest stories that well
definitely sure to have you talking and more coming up

(00:36):
here right now on Last Mischian Live and how it
affects you and your world. This is Tech Talk Tuesday
on Wood Radios West Michigan Live. Yeah, Trent, We're going
to talk to that story, which is kind of interesting
about a bigger story. President Trump getting ready to address

(00:56):
folks on AI as they this is probably one of
the biggest tech issues we face right now. Is not
AI is just as a threat from the rest of
the world, but what we're doing as a country to
advance artificial intelligence, how it kind of moves into every
nook and cranny of what we do.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
And it is really a story that I.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Think is is set to continue to grow here over time.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
I use it on a daily basis. You probably do two,
whether you realize.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
It or not, even if you're not using like chatch
ept or one of the main characters in this whole thing. Trent,
welcome in, appreciate you taking the time to be here
with us today.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, good morning, Justin.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
So the President's going to give this AI address here
in the next few days. What are we expecting that
he'll announce in his AI action plan to boost the
dominance in the field? The tech race with China, I'm
sure is going to be high a top that list,
get Justin.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
I think the biggest thing that we see is last
week we already saw that there's money and approvals being
spent on AI being released to different government agencies. I
think this speech is basically going to say, hey, more
political to encourage people to use this in the government,
to help the public to try to have some level
of trust or if they don't trust it regardless, understanding

(02:20):
that if our government agencies do not use AI and
quickly they will fall behind the rest of the world,
and a small country in another part of the world
using AI could catch up and exceed many of the
traditional US capabilities that we really had an advantage on,

(02:40):
a key advantage on. You think about the FBI and CIA,
they had a key advantage over almost every country in
the world because of the amount of time, effort, money, assets,
resources spent on surveillance or all the different types of
things they do. With AI, you could take a massive
percent of that budget and completely erase it and with

(03:02):
just a few people and some computers. And so the President,
I think, is going to try to explain to people
a little bit that if we don't use this, like
it or not, whatever the fear of this is or
not legitimate or not, if we don't use this as
a country, we're going to completely lose our advantage. And
if we do use this, combined with our massive resources,

(03:25):
we can further dominate the world, whether that be you know, militarily,
whether that's the defense based, whether that's cybersecurity wise, it
is the future of all of the key national security
interests that we have.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, and not only because what goes along with this
is you probably hear them talking about in the day's end.
Isn't just going to be the big announcements with AI
ushering in the Golden Age, et cetera. But the other
piece of this is energy. Look, they're going to need,

(04:04):
you know, just record number of energy. This is before
people go plug it in their teslas, by the way,
but they're going to need all kinds of energy just
to run these facilities. We know, the data centers, and
we're also you know, learning obviously what it takes to
run not just like bitcoin machines and things like that,

(04:28):
but like the actual AI machines that are going to
make all of this happen. And it's record levels that
we've never seen before.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Trend.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah, and justin this also too, is a total new
type of energy consumption. Traditional energy consumption on the grid
is by houses, businesses, and the technology that generates electricity
and the grid that consumed that works pretty good together
if it's properly set up. When you have these data centers,
they have a variable frequency of usage of that power.

(05:04):
And it is a difficult thing to take one of
these data centers and place it in an existing grid
next to average homes and businesses because it wreaks havoc
on the grid if it is not properly designed and
set up, which is a lot of extra cost. So
there needs to be some massive infrastructure to power these

(05:25):
AI projects that are inevitable again, inevitable for national security
for all different reasons. Whether we like it or not,
they're inevitable. So now, how are we going to deploy
this while preserving a grid in the average shoe's home
that if it happens to be close by some of
these projects is currently there's a lot of documentation on

(05:45):
this where people have a lot of issues with their
home power because they're near this and they can resolve this.
I mean, this is not an insurmountable issue. It just
needs a lot of work, a lot of infrastructure, and
we got to get going on this or others are
going to take the advantage.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
One of the things I suspected in the AI Action
plant is cutting like red tape, really giving them access
to fast track some of this innovation, not just with AI,
but energy as well. Al One of the stories we've
seen recently is talk of people like Google, Google and
Meta ramping up to do their own. In fact, this
is a story Meta signing their twenty year deal with

(06:23):
nuclear plants.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Nuclear is the future.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
This in order to give us the power that we're
going to need to do some of these things modular
nuclear and some of those other things actually cleaner energy
and can you imagine like every company, some of these
big tech companies may even have their own nuclear power.
It's kind of wild to think about.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah, justin they've been working on modular nuclear systems, basically
shipping containers that can be transported on a semi truck.
That's a self contained power supply unit that has massive
amount of power can be serviced, that can be put
in and out of service, that could be transported. And
this is a great thing not only for our country
to stabilize our grid, but for other countries who need

(07:08):
power to stabilize a natural disaster area. So there's in
this nuclear power has been suppressed.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Justin.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
We've had nuclear these options for many, many years, and
politically it was suppressed because nuclear is you know, dangerous
and scary. But a lot of this is coming out
now is like, hey, this is the only option and
it's not so scary, especially if it's using modern technology
to compartmentalize those for easy deployment.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Let's talk quickly about somebody asked in the chat, Hey,
is that what that big pyramid is out in the
Kentwood well that used to be stillcase And I don't
know if there's any AI in it, but maybe you
have some different thoughts on this trend. I think it's
it's a data center, is what that is?

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Correct? Yes, that's a data center. I don't know all
the details about that particular facility as far as you
know capacity. Whoever's the data center. Any data center has
massive amounts of AI built into it already, but I
don't think its sole focus is AI. To my knowledge,
it's a commercial data center.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yeah, Switch is the name of the company, and if
you've ever driven past it is it's kind of wild
to see those pictures.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Maybe we'll do a whole.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Dive into what they're doing and what you can expect
with data centers, maybe even in your own backyard in
the future.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Another resource they're going to need, not just energy, but
water for cooling the machines and some of those other things.
This is something that we'll have to dig into and
go a little bit more in depth in the days ahead. First,
I want to talk about if we can the ring doorbells. Now,
we just sort of said teased you with this earlier,

(08:49):
but hey, how would you like to have a drone
guarding your home? Ring is talking about doing this, but
they've got a whole other problem. There have been some
massive with the doorbells so you add that in to
the idea about a drone now, uh.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Guarding your home attackable?

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Somebody asked in a chat should it be should it
should it be armed? I don't know that that's that's
what you're gonna want, particularly if if it's hackable. But
this is an interesting story and an interesting idea. Tred
from from Ring the flying spy drone that monitors your
home in the air coming soon, It'll stalk burglars and

(09:34):
even recharge itself.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
It says, it's justin.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
I wouldn't I wouldn't want one of these in my home,
justin just the fact of.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
The idea, or outside or outside.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah, and this is automatic justin. It's one thing if
it was like, hey, I have a remote controlled drone
that I control from my phone app that I can
fly around my home to I don't know, make sure
the laundry is done or not. I mean, maybe that's
something I would know around. So I don't see all
the use cases for this. I think in some commercial
settings or business settings, you know, in more public places,

(10:08):
maybe maybe this could have some use after hours. But
in her average home, I don't know. I'm not a
big fan of that. I don't like the idea of that.
I think a good old fashioned dog, Justin is just
a wonderful drone to take care of the home.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, we've got one hundred pound drone that is watching
our house. She again been a little bit expensive if
you look at into feeding this hundred pound drone. But hey,
speaking of which and hacking, have you seen and maybe
you could talk about how easy it is, in fact
to hack some of these security systems.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
I know that's partly what you do.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Obviously you have affordable lifestore like Michigan Driver Santa, but
you've got Grand River Tech as well. In Grand River Tech,
you do a security system not just private individuals, but
you do this for companies and organizations and stuff of
the like. Talk about the hackability of some of these

(11:04):
and what Ring has just recently gone through some of
the details on this story. They've been having issues for
users are reporting inaccurate log in dates, client device information
displayed due to a back end update. Lots of this
being reported online and I don't know if it's just

(11:25):
another example and maybe a reminder of Hey, things really
aren't as secure as.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
You think they are.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, Justin, we've been monitoring these kind of issues for years,
but you have the perfect ingredients for a hacking scenario.
We have a product that's sold very inexpensive for the
type of product that it is in the industry, so
it's basically it's a cloud based device. They have basic
security features because the average Joe has to be able

(11:51):
to set these up, who's not real advanced and good
with security. It's got to be user friendly and so
that means lower security. And there's multiple ways this can
be hacked. One is on the back end of the
software side. There's millions, probably hundreds of millions of people
around the world using these things, so if a hacker
can get access to this, it's a very lucrative target.

(12:12):
So there's big hackers that are trying to get into
these things for various reasons. And then there's also old
fashioned basic hacks, justin where if you accidentally give your
login information to somebody else's trying to assist you or
help you, or if you leave that in plain sight
on your computer somewhere and a hacker has access to
computer and gets into your system. There's multiple ways where

(12:33):
this can be hacked, and it all comes down to
the same common denominator where you have a public facing
product that's trying to be pushed out to the masses
and they're trying to make a buck on this and
your security is not their first priority because the nature
of the scenario. So if people want something that's secured,

(12:55):
there's definitely ways to do that. It just takes a
little bit better quality a system, of a commercial grade
system and a little bit effort on the end user
side to set that up and secure that. You don't
build a house in a day, you don't build a
security camera system in a day. This is the consequence
of consumer grade products sold in mass No.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
What you're getting then too. At the end of the day,
we have some of that at home. It's not the
end of the world. But at the same time, know
what you're up against.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
That's the goal.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
With all the conversations that we have in tech Talk,
Grand River Tech, by the way, can help you in
those areas listening thank you self.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
You want to get a little more secure.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Maybe your business, organization, church, school, whatever it might be,
could use some help. Grand River Tech is the way
to reach out grandvertech dot com and get a hold
of our good friend Trent. Can it be or affordable
eye store like miss can drive and standale as always Trent,
it's a pleasure. We love having these conversations with you
and get to talk about the things that well, so

(13:51):
much are they see anyway these days, the big stories
that are going to leave such a big mark on
us right now in the tech world.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
We thank you for being here with us.
