Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tune me up next. Pamela's here and by the way,
art Prize been going on downtown. Folks are running around
seeing all the great things downtown in Pamela. As got
at quite an exhibit. Actually, i've driven past this. I
didn't know this was yours when I first saw it.
It really is something and welcome in Pamela Ornament.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Thank you Justin. It's a real honor to be on
your show. Yes, we have my nonprofit Healing and Arts.
We have curated the space across from Devas Place, the
grass across the street and in the grass we have
a one hundred and twenty red gens on display. Wow.
The genes shine a light on the hidden wounds of

(00:38):
sexual trauma. Both male and female veterans and community members
wrote their stories on the genes and it's just an
opportunity to just break the shame and silence that often
go with sexual trauma. We try to curate a space
for empathy and conversation and healing of One of the

(01:00):
participants said that she had never purchased new clothes her
whole life, and now she's an elderly woman and after
doing a pair of genes, she realized that she is
worthy of new clothes, and you know, so she can
now buy new clothes and not only just wear used
clothes that she had worn all her life. Another young
woman told us that it was the first time she

(01:22):
just said publicly, hey, I've been sexually abused, And she
said it was just a new sense of freedom. So
we love stories like that. And we also have an
interactive space where people can write on a ribbon visitors.
They can write a ribbon of solidarity or encouragement to survivors,
or people can take home a free pair of jeans

(01:43):
and write their own story, or they can write their
story there at the exhibit. We have tables at the exhibit.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Where is that just maybe it's maybe easier for you
to tell us, but it seems like a to Monroe
there right in front of the parking and between the
But where is that exactly?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yes, So if you think at the front doors to
DeVos Place, right off Monroe, like you're saying, if you
look directly across the street, there's the city parking garage,
and there's a patch of grass in between Deboss Place
in that city parking lot and the one hundred and
twenty pairs of red jeans are right there in the
grass and it's you know, it's hard to miss all

(02:19):
that red, Pamela.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
If folks want to maybe go online find out more
about what you're doing and how they can help out,
what's the best place for them to do that.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yes, thank you. Healing in arts with an As, healinginarts
dot org and we would love to have people come
and see us at our prize, contact us through our
website and we just would appreciate any support.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Thank you, justin absolutely my pleasure and we'll stay up
in touch. Let us know how it goes, folks. Pamela

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
